Prevailing Ingenuity in Edgar Allan Poe s
The Purloined Letter.
In crafting the detective mystery, Edgar Allan Poe is the only author credited with inventing a new
genre of literature. His contribution of this brand of story telling greatly influences writers to this
day. The Purloined Letteris the final tale in the trilogy of the clever and cunning amateur detective,
C. Auguste Dupin. In this story, The Prefect of the Parisian police calls upon Dupin to aid in an
investigation that has baffled and frustrated the police. Dupin finds a worthy adversary in the
antagonst, Minister D_. Dupin must identify with the mind of the criminal in order to retrieve a
stolen letter and return it to its rightful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A month later, Prefect G_. returns to Dupin s apartment to report that the letter has yet to be found.
The Prefect offers a reward of fifty thousand francs to anyone who can find it. Upon hearing of the
reward, Dupin hands Prefect G_. a checkbook and tells him to fill out the check and he will turn
over the letter. After taking possession of the found document, G_. rushes from the apartment, and
Dupin informs the narrator how he managed to obtain the purloined letter.
Unknown to the narrator or the Prefect, Dupin, wearing colored spectacles, visits the Minister
under false pretenses. During his visit his eyes search the apartment and he notices a damaged
and soiled letter placed openly on a rack, and determines it to be the document in question. He
purposefully forgets his gold snuffbox as he leaves the Ministers apartment. The next morning,
when Dupin returns to retrieve his forgotten property, a planned disturbance outside of Minister
D_. s apartment allows Dupin to replace the original document with a fraudulent reproduction he
had prepared the night before. This done, he exits the apartment, leaving Minister D. stripped of
the power of blackmail over the Lady. He also leaves in the false document a message for Minister
D_. to let him know who had made a fool of him.

Self Esteem and Moral Reasoning
a.Much has been said about children s self esteem in the past 20 years:
Discuss the implications of building a child s self esteem without helping a child master any
competencies in any of the areas of the multiple intelligences, character, behavior, or spiritual
development.
Any attempt to encourage or develop healthy self esteem without any external help is going to be
difficult without any guidance. The factors stated in the assignment s question; the multiple
intelligences, character, behavior, or spiritual development are far too important in understanding
one s self, to be left to chance. Any one of these areas of moral development are not formed in a
vacuum, and without the gentle prodding s given to a young child, the ... Show more content on

If the child exists in an unhealthy emotional environment, the result may be a maladaptive soul,
and thus, a spirit that delivers to the conscious self, internalized painful emotional experiences
revealed in difficult behavior. Garbage in, garbage out and at a very critical time in the child s life.
So now at an older age, we have a conscious self that has difficulty expressing itself with any
confidence. If the social aspects of the child s upbringing suffered similar insults, the emotional
maladaptation may be joined by a lack of confidence in the other attributes of a child s growth. A
lack of self confidence in his/her own abilities may develop and consequently, a poor sense of
self esteem. While this may or may not be accurate, it must not be forgotten that the opposite is
just as likely. If the child s caretakers are able to accommodate a child s natural abilities and
provide appropriate and accurate positive feedback, a healthy understanding of social inferences
social responsibility and social regulation might occur. Barring any relevant negative biological
influences, any positive or negative acceptance of self may be the likely outcome of this positive
upbringing (Craig Dunn, pp. 234 235).
All of these concepts are the philosophical construct of the writer and of course, have no basis in
research or fact, but the question was posed to

For example, term schizophrenia is a disorder in which personal, social, and occupational functional

Analysis Of The Athens Strategy In The Peloponnesian War
The Athens Strategy in the Peloponnesian War This essay examines the evolution of the Athens
strategy from the beginning to the end of The Peloponnesian War (431 to 404 BCE). The Strategy
will be evaluated in the context of the relationship of ends, means, and ways by testing the
suitability, acceptability, feasibility, and risk.
Viewed through ends, ways, means, the character of the Athens strategy evolved from the defensive
from the beginning of the war into the offensive during the Sicilian expedition until the end of the
war. Changing the strategy in the war is not unusual because its formulation and implementation are
influenced by many factors from the inner and outer surroundings. As always, when it comes to
changes, the reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Military objectives were also unclear. Thucydides testimony recognizes the intention of helping to
Sicilians cities Egesta and Leontinini and seeking the opportunity to obey Syracuse.
For the realization of the strategy in the first part of the war, Athens used all the available
elements of national power. The Athens s strategy, viewed from today s standpoint, was based on a
comprehensive approach to the defense of vital national interests. In other words, military assets
were not the only instrument, because the economy played an important role. The economy, in the
context of the Athens strategy, should be viewed in a dual role: as a source of power sufficient to
bear the cost of long term warfare and as a means of influencing other actors in the environment,
especially Sparta. Sufficient wealth and money enabled Athenians not to defend Aticca and avoid
a direct confrontation with superior Spartan forces. The Athens strategy partly rested on the
calculation that the costs of the war would provoke the rebellion of Spartan s allies and also
make Sparta give up his intentions. The primary role of their strong Navy was to secure the free
trade of the Athens Empire in order to obtain the necessary wealth for the functioning of the state
and the payment of the costs of war. In an offensive role, the Navy successfully attacked the coastal
areas under the control of Sparta and its

Analysis of Architecture in Photography Essay
Analysis of Architecture in Photography
I have decided to look at architecture for my next genre in photography. I have chosen architecture
as it is very different to fashion photography and looks at totally different materials and includes
different characteristics. In the early years of photography, few if any photographers were
specialists in any area other than commercial portraiture, which was the main area in which a living
could be made from the new medium. Early photographers did fairly often photograph buildings,
often working from the window of a convenient room rather than at street level.
Many of the images from this era can truly be described as monumental, giving the subjects ... Show

Even thought the photo only consists of blue, it is made up of lots of different shades of blue.
The lights on the building and around it stand out because they are a bright colour. I think the way
the sea blue colour merges into the deep blue/black colour of the background works really well.
The photograph doesn t really have a story to it, as there isn t much going on, it doesn t have
energy or any movement to it at all. However it could easily be a scene used in a film, such as an
establishing shot. The photo has a certain peaceful feel to it. It is soothing to look at; this is
because it is a calm, quiet setting you can almost feel your presence there, staring into the
beautiful view. I think the reason that the photo has such a positive, relaxing feel to it is down to
the fact that the composition of the photo reminds you of a deep blue sea or a clear black sky. The
photo has strong verticals and horizontal, which emphasise a static feel and the negative space.
The picture has a large depth of field with the two buildings the centre point of it. Only natural
lighting is used for this photo, therefore getting the exact time of day right would have been
essential.
The photo also has some negative points to it. The angle at which the photograph is taken from
makes the picture looks really flat and plain, For instance if

Taking a Look at Muscle Cramps
Muscle Cramps Muscle cramps are painful, involuntary muscle spasms that occur when muscles
contract and will not relax. They can last from several seconds to a couple minutes. They are
considered very common among people; however, their actual cause is still not well understood.
There are different types of musclecramps including true, contractures, tatany, and dystonic
cramps. There are not a lot of symptoms for muscle cramps, but the ones that do exist are
obvious. Cramps will usually go away on their own without medical assistance, but there are a
few cases where they should get checked out by a doctor. Muscle cramps are painful, but the
worst thing is that they can t be stopped from happening. The causes for this muscle disorder are
not completely understood, but there are several theories. According to the Mayo Clinic Staff,
muscle cramps are caused by overuse of muscle, dehydration, muscle strain, or simply holding a
position for a long period of time. In their article, Muscle Cramps, they also stated that cramps may
be related to underlying medical condition such as inadequate blood supply, nerve compression,
and mineral depletion (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2013). Getting inadequate blood supply affects the
arteries that deliver blood to the legs producing cramps in the legs and feet while exercising.
Another article called, Muscle Cramps Symptom Evaluation also lists anemia, medications, kidney
disorders, and hormonal problems as causes for this disorder.

Day and Night through a Mother s Eyes Essay
In Alice Walker s Everyday Use the reader is introduced to three main characters, a mother and
her two daughters. The first daughter, Maggie, still lives at home with her mother and is her
companion. Dee, however, moves on with life and goes out to make something of herself in the
world. The story is an account of one of Dee s visits, but the narrator, the mother, makes a very
obvious comparison between Dee and Maggie s looks, intelligence, behaviorism, and values. The
reader has a lesson to learn since the story is told through the mother s eyes. It is amazing that two
siblings can grow up in the same environment and turned out so differently. Dee and Maggie are

Although she is jealous of her sister, Maggie more admires her than anything. It is, however,
upsetting that the narrator never suggests Dee has any admiration or respect for Maggie or
herself, for that matter. The story never even suggests that Dee feels sorry for Maggie, instead it
can be interpreted that Dee just looks down on her sister, as she does the rest of her family.
The reader can also learn about the girls from how they treat others. Just like everything else,
they are opposites. Dee would always look anyone in the eye. Hesitation was no part of her
nature (92) while Maggie walks chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle (94). Mama also
knows that while her sister is there Maggie will be nervous and stand hopelessly in corners,
homely and ashamed of the burns scars down her arms and legs (92). While Maggie has always
felt inferior, Dee seems haughty and kind of has a superiority complex. Dee is also implied to
be manipulative. Dee would read to her mother and Maggie knowing it was literature beyond
their comprehension just so she could show off. She used to read to us without pit; forcing
words, lies, other folks habits, whole lives upon us two. She washed us in a river of make
believe, burned us with a lot of knowledge we didn t necessarily need to know (94). The phrase

Symbolism In The Scarlet Ibis, By James Hurst
When you see a storm, a tree, or the color red how does it make you feel? The Scarlet Ibis,
written by James Hurst, is about a brothers bond and his pride that pushes his brother until death.
The narrator s brother, Doodle, has a heart condition which makes him physically delayed. The
narrator doesn t want a disabled brother so he nicknames him Doodle because you can t expect
much from a disabled person in 1918. He was also ashamed that he had a brother that couldn t
walk, therefore he decided to teach him even though the doctor said he shouldn t do anything to
push his heart. A bird called a scarlet ibis plays an important part that develops symbolism in the
story. The scarlet ibisand Doodle have many things in common that brings the story together.
Both Doodle and the Scarlet Ibis died during a storm near a grand tree which symbolises danger
and sadness while the tree shows life. In addition the color red is an important warning sign
throughout the story. According to the story, It s a scarlet ibis, he said, pointing to a picture. It
lives in the tropics South America to Florida. A storm must have brought it here (Hurst l. 311
313). The scarlet ibis was in danger and pushed out of its natural habitat due to the storm. The
bird was most likely physically exhausted and this led to its death. He also states, Sadly, we all
looked back at the bird. A scarlet ibis! How many miles it had traveled to die like this, in our yard,
beneath the bleeding tree (Hurst l. 314 315).

CCL with the ability to write off debts such as the disputed shipment. Without being able to write

financial statements. Having an AFDA would allow CCL to record the sale but also recognise that
they do not expect payment from the client. Leaving this account on the accounts receivable would
be misleading to CCL s stakeholders as it would lead them to believe that CCL is expecting to

I would recommend that CCL create a policy regarding Accounts Receivables immediately. The

Neoconservative And Discrimination Against Gays And...
People may not notice little things that others do or say. Something as small as calling someone
gay because they identify themselves as homosexual, could emotionally traumatize them.
Examples of these issues are LGBTQ+ working in a labour intensive employment, and is treated
as weak or unfit for the position, thus being looked down upon. For centuries, people follow the
stereotype that people of a different gender or sexual identity are looked down upon and
considered outliers of the society. Our group will go in depth and demonstrate examples of
discrimination against LGBTQ+ in the workforce, by first analyzing the root of this problem. A
few questions that we will evaluating are: if people dislike LGBTQ+ in the workforce because
they are homosexuals, or because they are lacking in skill, education, experience etc. Second
question that ties with the root of the issue is to find out why majority of people discriminate
individuals that identify as LGBTQ+ homosexuals. Lastly, our group will be explaining
different point of views of this issue. We will be using a variety of frameworks that we have
learned in class such as viewing the social problem with a Neoliberal, Neoconservative and
transformative outlook to analyze the social problem. Topics that we can analyze using these
frameworks, include who is at fault or who is to blame within the social problem, how each
framework would try to resolve the social problem, and what are some things that each framework

The Treatment Prospects For Schizophrenia
The Treatment Prospects for Schizophrenia

Abstract
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that can present in many different ways. Most often, symptoms
display in a negative or positive manner. While medications are on the market to mitigate
symptoms, the optimal treatment method couples both pharmaceutical and psychiatric
rehabilitation. The Patient Outcomes Research Team, commonly called PORT, has issued treatment
recommendations for Schizophrenia. The first publication, issued in 1998, has offered compiled
research in the realm of Schizophrenia. The following paper will discuss the treatment options for
Schizophrenia to reflect the 2003 guidelines of the PORT publication.
Keywords: Schizophrenia, Updated treatment, Recommendations
The Treatment Prospects for Schizophrenia
In the DSM 5, Schizophrenia is termed as having both positive and negative symptoms. Positive
symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, or disorganized speech (American Psychiatric
Association, 2013). Negative symptoms, on the other hand, are anhedonia and depression.
Anhedonia is the inability to gain pleasure from seemingly pleasurable experiences. The threshold
for DSM 5 indicates that a person must show two or more symptoms to be considered
Schizophrenic. The patient must display symptoms for a minimum of six months. A publication by
Stephen Erhart, Stephen Marder and William Carpenter discusses the treatment of Schizophrenia

Disease Improvement Plan
In the United States (U.S.), chronic diseases are the leading cause of death and disability.
Chronic disease activities are sparsely delivered in the U.S. despite the fact that 7 out of 10
deaths are caused by chronic diseases, every year; and 75% of our health care costs 75% of health
care costs are attributable to preventable diseases.1,2 One main reason for this imbalance is that
funding for chronic diseaseprevention activities is limited. In fact, only 3% of the U.S. total health
expenditure is devoted to public health.3 The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the
leading federal agency for public health spends an estimated 70% of its budget on infection disease
prevention and control, with less than 10% of its spending devoted to chronic disease prevention.4
Background
Local public health agencies can serve as effective vehicles for delivering community based chronic

authority to implement public health laws and programs, and their relationships with diverse

addition to implementing direct economic measures, the Nixon administration also used its

The Disaster Management Stages Of Disaster
Disasters are categorized as natural, man made, or a combination of the two. For this paper, I will
identify a natural or man made disaster that are currently brandishing in the world and are providing
news headlines or happening within my very community. I will describe the various characteristics
of the disaster chosen and apply the disaster managementstages.
Current Natural or Man Made Disaster
The current natural disaster I will be discussing pertains to the flooding in Houston, Texas. The
initial flooding occurred on April 18, 2016 afflicting nine counties in and around Houston, placing
them in a state of disaster. Seven lives have been taken as a result of the immense flooding. 1,000

Preventability measures are taken to prepare for disasters that are known risk for happening.
Although not all disastrous events can be prevented initially, steps can be taken to reduce the
impact and after effects when they do occur. For instance, with the Houston flood, numerous
reservoirs were constructed to help control some overflow of some 67 billion gallons of water.
Imminence coincides with predictability in most cases and also helps the planning of prevention
and control when it can be implemented. Weather forecasters can be detrimental when it comes
to predicting a flood as this can predict expected rainfall duration and amounts. The scope and
number of casualties is usually tallied during and after a disastrous event as the baseline is
always zero prior to the event happening. This specific criteria represents the number of people
displaced, injured or killed per event happening. Intensity is typically measured before an event to
help garner some sort of ability to prepare for an expected incoming crisis. Intensity can also be
measured during a disaster to help foretell fatality rates and also overall damage incurrence.
Application of Disaster Management Stages
Prevention, preparation and planning, responsiveness, and recovery are all the stages of managing
a disaster. Prevention is the first stage in disaster management. This stage occurs before a disaster
takes place and identifies possible risks.

Womanhood delineates a shift in American culture at the turn of the century; the creation of the
New Woman and her participation in the public sphere. Lois Rudnick, author of the book titled
The New Woman states that Between 1890 and 1920 women writers and reformers made major
contributions to literature and the arts, as well as to social and political reforms. From the
Victorian age culture of the 1890s, to 1920, the year women were granted suffrage with the
nineteenth amendment; the New Woman emerged in literature, the arts and reform movements.
The New Woman was a consumer who was not guilty of partaking in leisure, self indulgence and
sensual pleasure. The white middle class woman was no longer restricted by the ideals of the
Victorian woman, but rather now enjoyed freedoms she did not have before. In the 1920s a
radical woman had emerged in the form of the flappers who wore her hair bobbed, heavy makeup,
short dresses and danced jazz. The flapper was a woman of the 1920s

Government Enforcement, Crime And The American Population...
On July 4, 1776, thirteen colonies declared independence from English rule, eventually forming the
United States of America ( American History, 2016). Built upon a unique platform of autonomy, the
United States provides citizens with freedoms not present in other countries. In order to preserve
such freedoms, the Constitution of the United States was enacted in 1797, outlining an array of
rights and privileges afforded to all citizens of the country ( American History, 2016). However, as
in any society, crime and abuse pervaded the peace of the nation, continuing to date. Methods of
public, social control span deep into the history of the United States, in an effort to combat
wrongful, illicit activity, or crime. With the first official police force established in 1838, law
enforcement has grown rapidly within the nation, employing millions (Bureau of Justice Statistics,
2015). Nevertheless, with the evolution of law enforcement, crime and the American population
have also evolved. In the present day United States, fear and unrest regarding personal rights and
freedoms are overwhelmingly prevalent, often creating controversy between the public and the
police. Under democratically inspired legal restraints, notably the Bill of Rights, the Fourth, Fifth,
Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitutionensure the personal
rights and freedoms of American citizens against certain police related matters. The Fourth

The Importance Of The Human Genome Project
Building off of the work conducted by the Human Genome Project to sequence the entire human
genome, the ENCODE Project seeks to delineate the function of the elements identified within the
project. Through the collaboration of many different institutions, scientists, and laboratories, the
ENCODE Project has been able to identify and assign functions to numerous, including previously
unstudied, elements within the genome and further genome wide understanding beyond just that of
protein coding sequences. Utilizing different biological assays, scientists systematically mapped
areas of transcription, chromatin structure, histone modification, and transcription factor
association (ENCODE Project Consortium 2012). ENCODE focused on... Show more content on

However, it also illuminated the gaps in understanding that still exist, such as organizational and
mechanistic features. The large amount of data covering numerous cell types from the ENCODE
Project creates a resource to be used in the studies of genetic disorders and illnesses and provide
testable hypotheses for experimental analysis. ENCODE focused on a limited number of cell types
and factors. Future studies could further understanding of the genome and potentially fill in the
gaps by expanding the number of cell types and factors examined (ENCODE Project Consortium
2012).
Discussion
The ENCODE Project seeks to determine the functionality of the elements of the human genome.
ENCODE has their own definition of functionality, which includes any discrete genome segment
that encodes a defined product or displays a reproducible biochemical signature. With the rapidly
degrading definition of the gene in recent years due to insights from projects like ENCODE and
the discovery of pervasive genomic transcription, the ENCODE definition of functionality could be
the key to determining the new definition of a gene. Historically, a gene indicated a piece of DNA
which ultimately had a protein product,

Oral History Interview
The individual I chose to interview for my oral history project was actually the Vice Principal of
my school and his name was Mr. Clair. During our interview, he relayed to me the experiences he
went during the Civil Rights Movement. What I was told during this interview was surprisingly
different from what I was expecting, I was expecting to hear stories about how my interviewee
witnessed many people of color being abused and segregated to the extremes. However, what I
heard was a bit calmer than that and surprisingly, did not involve much violence at all. Mr. Clair
told me about how he was only a young boy, around ten years old when the civil rights movement
began to take off and in his school the main reaction he had was utter dismay. It was shocking and...

This was amusing to me because the Civil Rights Movement was having a direct impact on his
life. This forced him to make the choice to either support this movement that was occurring in his
school or just go on with his life. Being the young boy he was, my interviewee didn t really have
a reaction to this decision, he did what his parents decided to do. That isn t surprising because
most children usually follow their parents, however; what made this so interesting was the fact that
his parents made the decision not to do anything about the actions going on around them. If I was
put in this same situation I would probably do the same thing my interviewee did, just stay neutral
and don t actively participate in any actions against the Civil Rights Movement. I would do this
because I am a person who tends to mind my own business unless something actually has an effect
on my life. In this situation, having colored kids leave my school isn t really something that would

Bureau Of Fire Investigation
Fire Investigators have been around for many years dedicated to discovering the origin of fires
and explosions. Back in the days, fires were easily fueled by many flammable decorations and
building materials used in the common household or building. Most of these fires were caused by
the carelessness of people, flammable objects, broken rules, poor installment of wiring, and most
importantly, arson. Today, many fireinvestigation teams have been formed, determined to discover
the causes of a fire; with an extension of law enforcement, who help track down suspected
arsonists who first began these devastating fires. The history of fire investigation comes from many
sources and organizations. Dating back to 1949, one of the most well known fire... Show more

but before that I have a quote here which fit on my topic, We have hearing aids in order to fix our
ear. We have lasik surgery in order to fix our eyes, People... you can t fix stupid! by Ron White . So
let me start, what comes into your mind when you hear the word lasik? So basically lasik means
an eye correct vision which needs a laserto reshape the inner cornea. There are three types of eye
conditions, the nearsighted, farsighted and astigmatism. So first let us know the nearsighted or
(myopia), basically means that people who are nearsighted they can t clearly see a text or a thing
that is too far from them and they need to move closer in that certain area, nearsighted people
usually experiencing blur vision when they are far well they can read it but then the text itself
will turn into a blur one. It can be a common cause of having a blur vision. So here is a sample
picture of myopia. The second is farsighted or (hyperopia), basically means that people who are
farsighted they are unable to see things clearly they can see it but it needs to have a good distance
most of them usually imagine or foresight on what will happen on the things that has been shown in

Fructose Intolerance And The Aldolase B Gene And Fructose
Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene and Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate
aldolase. Both are important because it is responsible for gluconeogenesis and fructose metabolism.
Gluconeogenesis is the metabolic pathway that results in the production of glucose from non
carbohydrate carbon substrates or the opposite of Glycolysis (Figure 1). In simple terms, a
mutation on Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate would both hinder the production of pyruvate and the
production of glucose. Fructose Intolerance is also referred to as Fructose 1 Phosphate Aldolase
Deficiency. The modified enzymevaries in its original function and structure that derived from a
restricted genetic mutation (Cox, O Donnell, Camilleri, and Burghes).
Aldolase B is classified as a Lyase, or an enzyme that catalyzes the breaking of various bonds
means other than hydrolysis and oxidation. Lyase often forms a double bond or a new ring
structure. Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene which is expressed
in the liver (Malay, Allen, and Tolan). Its molecular compound is shown in Figure 2 and has two
active site residues, Lysine and Glutamate, as well as several charged residues. The functional
assignment is complex because of the proximity of the many charged amino acids found at the
active site. Figure 3 shows where the substitution of Proline for Alanine occur at position 149

Gasoline Prices and State Sales Tax.
According to Singers(Aug 24,2017), ITEP S (July 2017), (July 2017), (Aug 2011),
and(December 2011), higher sales and gas tax in Connecticut have consequences and a solution
proposed to reduce tax burden on low income family. Based on the readings and my understanding
of this topic, I conclude that increasing sales and gas taxes in Connecticut to fix a budget crisis
will be financially harmful to low income families and needs to be addressed with the new policy.
Singer(Aug 24,2017), pointed out that, Connecticut legislators are deciding to increase the sales tax
from its current level to 6.85 percent to fix a budget deficit, estimated to reach $3.5 billion in two
years and improve state aid to towns. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Comparing sales tax to other states shows that, Connecticut s sales tax is not among the highest.
According to Singer s (Aug 24, 2017), the Connecticut 6.35 percent sales tax ranks thirty two in
the US. It is higher than certain state such as Massachusetts, and lower than others, such as Rode
Island and New York. As Connecticut tries to grow its economy and fix it budgets crisis with
higher sales tax, will create a financial problem for the lower and middle classes. Based on
estimate produced by ITEP data, low income families spend seventy five percent of their income
on items subjected to sales tax, higher than fifty percent spent by middle income families and
seventeen percent spent by the richest families (ITEP). Considering this, the tax do not affect upper
income families, but low and mid income people who cannot afford the tax. Comparing gas tax to
other states shows that, Connecticut s gas tax is not among the highest. According to the graph

19th Century American Education System
During the time of American Revolution, the colony public system only had boys in the institution
in the 1600s. It was until the 1700s women whose families were wealthy received formal private
education and the lower class were normally limited to whatever they could pick up at home
(educationnews.org, 2013). In the 19th century US educators felt that the schoolsystem was
segregated by age. Educator Horace Man introduced age grading for student in Massachusetts in
1848. Its success lead to age grading across public schools in America. Today we use the same age
grading by dividing children by age in public schools elementary, middle school, and high school.
Horace Man wanted reform in in all public school by having equal high quality

Chimney Sweeper William Blake
William Blake proved himself as one of the most influential artists to spring from the Romantic
Era without a doubt. What made Blake so popular may have been his ability to portray his time
period in works of art that were beautifully crafted. Blake s poetry was not appreciated during his
lifetime because people were living the lives his works vicariously told, but once his time period
ended, a historical book was left behind. The theme of a struggle is most prominently showcased
in Blake s poetry. Whether it be Blake depicting women and their power struggle throughout the
18th or 19th century, or depicting the lives of the children put into the labor force at a very early
age. These children were put in a tunnel (almost literally when... Show more content on

By the speakers hair remaining white, the unobstructed purity is showcased. The color white makes
a second appearance in the first The Chimney Sweeper here, Then naked and white, all their bags
left behind . This passage literally shows the childrens innocence because their young bodies were
bare. When a newborn enters the world, this is truly the most innocent time in ones life. Through
Blakes allusion to the naked, pure, and free bodies he is emphasizing their continued innocence.
The irony of the color white in this passage is showcased because more than 65% of the chimney
sweeps were black (Simkin 1), restating that the color white is only inserted in the poem to
symbolize innocence (Smith 1).
The transition from The Chimney Sweeper in Songs of Innocence to the other The Chimney
Sweeper in Songs of Experience is a jurassic change of perspective by the narrator. In the second
poem, no façade is placed on the fact that the children are not innocent. The first line of this
poem references the lack of innocence, A little black thing among the snow, and like previously
stated, it is understood that the color white signifies innocence so on the contrary, the color black
represents corruption. Tom Dacre again states that he knows his life is a tragic one when he says,

Hard Rock Returns To Prison Poem Analysis
The Hard Rock was a main inmate in the poem. The name of Hard Rock is based on a hard nut
to crack because he was the only one inmate who never submitted and gave a lot of troubles to
officers. The Hard Rock was treated really badly and punished as warning to other inmates in the
hospital. Why he was treated so badly is because not only he never submitted to officers; there
might be that he was a black person. While the Hard Rockwas treated badly, other inmates were
very submissive to officers because they did not want to be treated in the same way as Hard
Rock. He was forced under the strong power in the oppressive community, yet he had the power of
perseverance and was very strong; hence, his attitude has not changed through the poem. The Hard
Rock was a hero for other inmates because he was very strong, against the authority, and brought
hope to other inmates in the poem Hard Rock Returns to Prison by Etheridge Knight. The Hard
Rock was very strong. Hard Rock was standing every treatment he had, no matter how badly the
treatment was; thus, his body was full of scars and welts. His treatment by officers and doctors
were inhumane. For instances, he has cut his brain and shot electricity while he was operated by
doctors to make him submissive. In addition, there was testing if Hard Rock had changed his
attitude and submitted to officers, yet he has not changed. Diversity of extreme punishments on
Hard Rock could not only changethe behavior; it could also ruin the

Comparison Of Adgio Bronzino And Robert Campin
The Comparison of Angolo Bronzino and Robert Campin Paintings One must truly have the desire

how they are similar and different. First one must understand the symbolism, reasoning and
iconography of both painting, starting with Cupid, Folly, Venus and Time This painting dates back
to 1546, is an oil on wood, 61 x 56 Вѕ displayed at National Gallery in London, England. Cosimo

This painting was considered sophisticated, playful, and erotic for the time period. The iconography
in this painting has been studied extensively by art scholars for many years, this is what has been
determined thus this far. Looking at this picture you see many different things going on, almost
chaotic, especially for those who may not know Greek mythology, yet once one knows these myths

The Crying Game By Neil Jordan And Loaded By Christos...
ВЎВ§Texts both inform us of the social identities available to us, and problematize them; both
police our social selves and subvert them.ВЎВЁ
Both texts, The Crying Game by Neil Jordan and Loaded by Christos Tsiolkas, use
characters within the discourse to project social identities that have been

texts. The characters from the texts work to, police and subvert their own sexual
identities within their social milieu.

Napoleon And The French Revolution
With all the glory and the splendour that some countries may have experienced, never has
history seen how only only one man, Napoleon, brought up his country France from its most
tormented status, to the very pinnacle of its height in just a few years time. He was a military
hero who won splendid land based battles, which allowed him to dominate most of the European
continent. He was a man with ambition, great self control and calculation, a great strategist, a
genius; whatever it was, he was simply the best. But, even though how great this person was,
something about how he governed France still floats among people s minds. Did he abuse his
power? Did Napoleon defeat the purpose of the ideals of the French Revolution? After all of his
success in his military campaigns, did he gratify the people s needs regarding their ideals on the
French Revolution? This is one of the many controversies that we have to deal with when
studying Napoleon and the French Revolution. In this essay, I will discuss my opinion on
whether or not was he a destroyer of the ideals of the French Revolution. Certain individuals
approved of Napoleon s reign as the saviour of France. He finished and completed the Revolution
by fulfilling the ideals the people of France demanded. A person such as one belonging to the
bourgeoisie, or even a peasant would be very satisfied with the way Napoleon ruled over the
country. He gave them equality, freedom, justice, and many rights. Such things never existed

Selecting The Female Reproductive System Essay
Selecting the female reproductive system to present was slightly awkward with me being a

With that being said, I moved forward with my research on the pathologies of the female

the pathological anomalies of the female reproductive system that I was familiar with.
Pathological terminology such as Fibroids (tissue overgrowth) and Endometriosis (pain in the

pathological disorders which led to the loss of pregnancy. At different moments in our life at one

Rescue Services Argument
The Argument of Rescue Services
Many people have had a an issue of safety on rescue services. Some say they are risking their lives
while others say that they are not. There have been many articles on the subject about rescuers that

there is nothing dangerous about mountain climbing. But what is right is that people do have the
right to rescue services when they put themselves at risk because all humans have a right to rescue

The first reason people do have the right to rescue services when they put themselves at risk is that
it is their choice. In source 1 it said ...a technique developed in Switzerland. suggests that the new

late. All they need to do is to disclose company s financial reports to public. By making things
transparent, all financial activities will be displayed and the public will see it themselves if there is
any unclean transactions were made. With this action, if the company did not do anything
unethical, it will be the only matter of time that the company would gain back the trust from public.
Q4. Governments throughout the world have been slow to react publicly to serious problems such
as SARS, mad cow disease, and now melamine contamination. Who benefits and who loses
because of these delays?
Governmental follow up has not been speedy ever since the investigation of melamine
contamination was revealed. With these delays, the manufacturing companies that have been
exporting milk power would make use of the time lag to clear their remaining stocks before the
rumors go wild. As a result, these companies would not only earn expected profits but also be free
from reputational and financial losses. The only group who suffers from these delays would be the
buyers especially direct consumers. While the government takes a minute longer, we won t know
how many more killing products would be sold and consumed, and how many more people would

Personality Stability and Change in Trait Theories of...
The evaluation of personality stability and change across the life span is largely determined by
theoretical beliefs. While some scholars have a more deterministic viewpoint and consider human
personality as fairly predictable and stable over time (e.g. biogenetic determinism), other theorists
view personality as fluid and highly malleable (e.g. behaviorism). The intermediate stance assumes
a bidirectional relationship between heredity and environment, which allows for both consistency
and change in personality. Moreover, some theorists introduce a third element to a biosocial model
the individual (e.g. transactional model of socialization). Evaluation of personality stability is
difficult, seeing lack of consensus on what... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Don Juan). Allport used an idiographic approach that emphasized uniqueness of individuals,
evaluating categories of values within a person, instead of across groups. This approach reduces
researchers bias as the study is focused on investigation of traits presented in each individual, rather
than a theorized central trait (Burger, 2010). Allport was influential in conceptualizing of
personality, but his trait model is rather philosophical than scientific. Falsification of his hypothesis
and organization of psychological data under his theory is difficult, and, consequently, measurement
of personality stability or change is problematic. Contrary to Allport, personality analysis of
Eysenck was nomothetic in nature, with strong emphases on biological foundations of traits. To
construct and explain personality he used typical for the natural sciences approach that support
generalization. Through statistical evaluation Eysenck established two main bipolar dimensions of
personality, which he called supertraits extraversion/introversion (E) and neuroticism/stability (N).
Later, he added another dimension, psychoticism/superego functioning (P), which maintained less
defined. According to Eysenck, psychological disorders are found at the extremes of personalities,
where neuroticism determines predisposition to anxiety, hysteria, depression, and obsessive
compulsive tendencies. Psychoticism, per Eysenck,

Morality of Human Cloning Essay
The novel Brave New World presents us with a vision of a future where human beings are no
longer born the natural way but are rather manufactured in identical batches to certain
specifications. Where concepts like mother and father are scatological and children are taught only
to keep the order and complete their predetermined occupations. By the end of the novel Mr.
Huxley has us thankful that such a world is beyond our grasp. However, with the successful cloning
of a Scottish sheep named Dolly, images of a Brave New World became so much closer to
reality. Even just the word clone can summon dark images of lines of identical individuals with
bar codes tattooed on their necks walking in lock step fashion and it is due in no small... Show more

Can we not also add a cloned child to the roster and still be ignorant of their origin? As unnerving
as it might appear the method of procreation is completely arbitrary, more so ought we to be
concerned with the intent of procreation if we must lay a blame. Physically a cloned child is no
different from you or me but can we say that the child is any less human from extra physical loss?
Whether or not a clone would be less than human begs us that we ought first discern what it is that
defines a person as a person. Detailing free will and individualistic identity necessitate the ability to
be self aware and to make decisions without requiring outside influence which, compose the basis of
what delineates a human person. The problem of identity sometimes arises with identical twins in
that we many times ascertain them to be the same person due merely to their often indistinguishable
appearance. Experience however tells us that even though they have the same genetic profile they
constitute discrete identities. A clone, against our intuitions, would not have the same identity as
the one from whom they were cloned and additionally even were one to take a person and subject
them to one scenario they would end up completely different than if you had subjected them in a

World War Z Movie Vs Book
The book World War Z by Max Brooks is a phenomenal work and I enjoyed it very much. The
genre of this book is most likely categorized as a horror like fiction. The director of World War Z
the movie, is director Marc Foster. The title for the book and movie were exactly the same. The
setting for World War Z changes constantly due to the main character traveling a lot. In the book
there are chapters that take place in South Africa, Russia, China, the Caribbean, France, America,
and Great Britain. Therefore the title gives away the setting for the most part because of it saying

Analysis Of Two Lovers And A Beachcomber By Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath and Two Lovers and a Beachcomber by the Real Sea Sylvia Plath, while one of the
best known poets of the 20th century, has diminished in popularity to the modern audience.
Despite this, Plath s work is still poignant today with its self examination of life in the context of
poor mental health and its confessional style that has become a staple of American literature. On
October 27, 1932, Sylvia Plath was born to Aurelia Schober and Otto Plath, both immigrants of
Germanic descent. Although she was born in Boston, Sylvia Plath spent her childhood years in
Winthrop, Massachusetts, a smaller coastal town. Unfortunately, Plath lost her father to diabetes
related complications in November of 1940 at the young age of eight; however, her eighth year
of life also brought her the publication of her first poem in the children s section of The Boston
Herald. Two years later, the Plath family moved to Wellesley, Massachusetts, so her mother could
work at Boston University and support the family. Plath excelled at her school in Wellesley and
began to receive prizes and awards for her writing. Along with her natural intelligence, this
culminated in a personality that her mother described as precocious as well as the development of
perfectionist tendencies that would afflict her significantly later in life (Barnard 15). Similarly,
America s entrance into World War II in 1944 contributed to Sylvia Plath s pessimistic outlook on
human nature. Additionally, as she grew up and

Compare And Contrast The Book Of Hours
A book of hours was a Christian pray book, most popular in the 15th century. Books of hours
were the most common form of illuminated manuscripts seen coming out of the medieval
period. They were not for monks or university libraries but for ordinary people. They are small
and usually prettily decorated books. They were intended to be held in the hand and admired for
their delicate illumination rather than be put on a library shelf. Books of Hours were commonly
found in medieval households and used as a way to teach literary skills and religion. Each book of
hours was unique, while some are less extravagant than others they similarly contained Christian
texts, prayers, psalms, and told about saints. In most books of hours each page celebrated... Show

The Leaf from The Tarleton Hours verso: St. Philip and St. James facing each other was
constructed in Normandy, France in 1430. At this time France was deeply involved in the
Hundred Years war, and the English occupied Normandy. During the British occupation in the
Hundreds Years War, hundreds of Normans died. Books of Hours allowed a relief from fear,
and their owners to be closer to religion, through the psalms and art that was contained inside
them and the devotional imagery they evoked, which was an important aspect of life in the 15th
century. The pattern in similarities and differences among Books of Hours emerged because

Taking a Look at Hip Hop Culture
Hip Hop Culture As I was growing up in the late 1970 s, it has always been common knowledge
that hip hop music and its culture originated in the South Bronx section of New York City in the
early 1970 s. Since this time, hip hop has become a multi cultural fusion of many different
contributions made by several ethnic groups like Caucasians, Asians, blacks, and Hispanics, to
name just a few. Hip hop has definitely exploded within many cultures and subcultures throughout
the world and within the past decade or so; it has been getting widespread exposure. When hip hop
music and the whole culture of the movement first came onto the scene, it incorporated many
different art forms. These art forms include deejaying [cuttin and scratchin ], emceeing or rapping,
beatboxing, breakdancing, and graffiti art. In today s society, hip hop still incorporates these
different art forms, but it also includes the way you dress; the language or terminology you use;
and the way you walk, act, and look. Hip hop music on a whole has always been a form of self
expression depicting a person s lifestyle; their pain; their struggle; and the realities of street life.
For some rappers or singers today in the hip hop game, it s still a form of self expression. But for
others, it s all about the money, clothes, jewelry, or the Bling bling. Ka ching. Ka ching. (Liu, Pg.
1) Since the early to mid 90 s, hip hop has undergone so many changes that it has actually lost its
culture. Hip hop has become,

The Unequal Opportunity For Receive Treatment
The unequal opportunity to receive treatment
Jonathan K. Burns (2009) emphasized the findings of a community survey that indicated that
Americans do not have equal opportunity to receive proper mental health care treatment. (Burns,
2009) A community survey in the US (a high income country), for example, reported that low
income individuals cited financial barriers to accessing care. However, this was not the case in the
Netherlands or in Canada, both HICs, where economic disparities and income inequality are lower.
Also in the US, a house hold survey of adolescents found that those of low income status reported
far more structural barriers to accessing mental health services than did their middle and high
income counterparts. (Burns, 2009: 23) Victoria Ojeda and Sara Bergstress (2008) conducted a
research study by administering surveys to measure the perceptions and attitudes of participants
who indicated that they needed mental health care treatment and were not receiving it. 44.5% of
participants indicated that finances were a barrier as to why they were not receiving mental health
care treatment. (Ojeda, Bergstress, 2008) Charles Zastrow (2014) expressed that studies have
shown that when one has a mental illness, they tend to face financial difficulties due to their illness
as it results in a lowered social status and decrease in earning power (Zastrow: 2014: 159) Social
class also dictates the quality of treatment the individual will receive as studies have

  • 3. Self Esteem and Moral Reasoning a.Much has been said about children s self esteem in the past 20 years: Discuss the implications of building a child s self esteem without helping a child master any competencies in any of the areas of the multiple intelligences, character, behavior, or spiritual development. Any attempt to encourage or develop healthy self esteem without any external help is going to be difficult without any guidance. The factors stated in the assignment s question; the multiple intelligences, character, behavior, or spiritual development are far too important in understanding one s self, to be left to chance. Any one of these areas of moral development are not formed in a vacuum, and without the gentle prodding s given to a young child, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the child exists in an unhealthy emotional environment, the result may be a maladaptive soul, and thus, a spirit that delivers to the conscious self, internalized painful emotional experiences revealed in difficult behavior. Garbage in, garbage out and at a very critical time in the child s life. So now at an older age, we have a conscious self that has difficulty expressing itself with any confidence. If the social aspects of the child s upbringing suffered similar insults, the emotional maladaptation may be joined by a lack of confidence in the other attributes of a child s growth. A lack of self confidence in his/her own abilities may develop and consequently, a poor sense of self esteem. While this may or may not be accurate, it must not be forgotten that the opposite is just as likely. If the child s caretakers are able to accommodate a child s natural abilities and provide appropriate and accurate positive feedback, a healthy understanding of social inferences social responsibility and social regulation might occur. Barring any relevant negative biological influences, any positive or negative acceptance of self may be the likely outcome of this positive upbringing (Craig Dunn, pp. 234 235). • 5. Analysis Of The Athens Strategy In The Peloponnesian War The Athens Strategy in the Peloponnesian War This essay examines the evolution of the Athens strategy from the beginning to the end of The Peloponnesian War (431 to 404 BCE). The Strategy will be evaluated in the context of the relationship of ends, means, and ways by testing the suitability, acceptability, feasibility, and risk. Viewed through ends, ways, means, the character of the Athens strategy evolved from the defensive from the beginning of the war into the offensive during the Sicilian expedition until the end of the war. Changing the strategy in the war is not unusual because its formulation and implementation are influenced by many factors from the inner and outer surroundings. As always, when it comes to changes, the reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Military objectives were also unclear. Thucydides testimony recognizes the intention of helping to Sicilians cities Egesta and Leontinini and seeking the opportunity to obey Syracuse. For the realization of the strategy in the first part of the war, Athens used all the available elements of national power. The Athens s strategy, viewed from today s standpoint, was based on a comprehensive approach to the defense of vital national interests. In other words, military assets were not the only instrument, because the economy played an important role. The economy, in the context of the Athens strategy, should be viewed in a dual role: as a source of power sufficient to bear the cost of long term warfare and as a means of influencing other actors in the environment, especially Sparta. Sufficient wealth and money enabled Athenians not to defend Aticca and avoid a direct confrontation with superior Spartan forces. The Athens strategy partly rested on the calculation that the costs of the war would provoke the rebellion of Spartan s allies and also make Sparta give up his intentions. The primary role of their strong Navy was to secure the free trade of the Athens Empire in order to obtain the necessary wealth for the functioning of the state and the payment of the costs of war. In an offensive role, the Navy successfully attacked the coastal areas under the control of Sparta and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis of Architecture in Photography Essay Analysis of Architecture in Photography I have decided to look at architecture for my next genre in photography. I have chosen architecture as it is very different to fashion photography and looks at totally different materials and includes different characteristics. In the early years of photography, few if any photographers were specialists in any area other than commercial portraiture, which was the main area in which a living could be made from the new medium. Early photographers did fairly often photograph buildings, often working from the window of a convenient room rather than at street level. Even thought the photo only consists of blue, it is made up of lots of different shades of blue. The lights on the building and around it stand out because they are a bright colour. I think the way the sea blue colour merges into the deep blue/black colour of the background works really well. The photograph doesn t really have a story to it, as there isn t much going on, it doesn t have energy or any movement to it at all. However it could easily be a scene used in a film, such as an establishing shot. The photo has a certain peaceful feel to it. It is soothing to look at; this is because it is a calm, quiet setting you can almost feel your presence there, staring into the beautiful view. I think the reason that the photo has such a positive, relaxing feel to it is down to the fact that the composition of the photo reminds you of a deep blue sea or a clear black sky. The photo has strong verticals and horizontal, which emphasise a static feel and the negative space. The picture has a large depth of field with the two buildings the centre point of it. Only natural lighting is used for this photo, therefore getting the exact time of day right would have been essential. The photo also has some negative points to it. The angle at which the photograph is taken from makes the picture looks really flat and plain, For instance if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are different types of musclecramps including true, contractures, tatany, and dystonic cramps. There are not a lot of symptoms for muscle cramps, but the ones that do exist are obvious. The first daughter, Maggie, still lives at home with her mother and is her companion. Dee, however, moves on with life and goes out to make something of herself in the world. The story is an account of one of Dee s visits, but the narrator, the mother, makes a very obvious comparison between Dee and Maggie s looks, intelligence, behaviorism, and values. The story never even suggests that Dee feels sorry for Maggie, instead it can be interpreted that Dee just looks down on her sister, as she does the rest of her family. The reader can also learn about the girls from how they treat others. Just like everything else, they are opposites. Dee would always look anyone in the eye. Hesitation was no part of her nature (92) while Maggie walks chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle (94). Mama also knows that while her sister is there Maggie will be nervous and stand hopelessly in corners, homely and ashamed of the burns scars down her arms and legs (92). While Maggie has always felt inferior, Dee seems haughty and kind of has a superiority complex. Dee is also implied to be manipulative. • 10. Symbolism In The Scarlet Ibis, By James Hurst When you see a storm, a tree, or the color red how does it make you feel? The Scarlet Ibis, written by James Hurst, is about a brothers bond and his pride that pushes his brother until death. The narrator s brother, Doodle, has a heart condition which makes him physically delayed. The narrator doesn t want a disabled brother so he nicknames him Doodle because you can t expect much from a disabled person in 1918. He was also ashamed that he had a brother that couldn t walk, therefore he decided to teach him even though the doctor said he shouldn t do anything to push his heart. A bird called a scarlet ibis plays an important part that develops symbolism in the story. The scarlet ibisand Doodle have many things in common that brings the story together. Both Doodle and the Scarlet Ibis died during a storm near a grand tree which symbolises danger and sadness while the tree shows life. In addition the color red is an important warning sign throughout the story. According to the story, It s a scarlet ibis, he said, pointing to a picture. It lives in the tropics South America to Florida. A storm must have brought it here (Hurst l. 311 313). The scarlet ibis was in danger and pushed out of its natural habitat due to the storm. The bird was most likely physically exhausted and this led to its death. He also states, Sadly, we all looked back at the bird. A scarlet ibis! Something as small as calling someone gay because they identify themselves as homosexual, could emotionally traumatize them. Examples of these issues are LGBTQ+ working in a labour intensive employment, and is treated as weak or unfit for the position, thus being looked down upon. For centuries, people follow the stereotype that people of a different gender or sexual identity are looked down upon and considered outliers of the society. Our group will go in depth and demonstrate examples of discrimination against LGBTQ+ in the workforce, by first analyzing the root of this problem. A few questions that we will evaluating are: if people dislike LGBTQ+ in the workforce because they are homosexuals, or because they are lacking in skill, education, experience etc. Second question that ties with the root of the issue is to find out why majority of people discriminate individuals that identify as LGBTQ+ homosexuals. Lastly, our group will be explaining different point of views of this issue. We will be using a variety of frameworks that we have learned in class such as viewing the social problem with a Neoliberal, Neoconservative and transformative outlook to analyze the social problem. Topics that we can analyze using these frameworks, include who is at fault or who is to blame within the social problem, how each framework would try to resolve the social problem, and what are some things that each framework can do ... Chronic disease activities are sparsely delivered in the U.S. despite the fact that 7 out of 10 deaths are caused by chronic diseases, every year; and 75% of our health care costs 75% of health care costs are attributable to preventable diseases.1,2 One main reason for this imbalance is that funding for chronic diseaseprevention activities is limited. In fact, only 3% of the U.S. total health expenditure is devoted to public health.3 The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the leading federal agency for public health spends an estimated 70% of its budget on infection disease prevention and control, with less than 10% of its spending devoted to chronic disease prevention.4 Background Local public health agencies can serve as effective vehicles for delivering community based chronic disease activities because of their wide geographic distribution across the U.S., their statutory authority to implement public health laws and programs, and their relationships with diverse community stakeholders (CITATION). For this paper, I will identify a natural or man made disaster that are currently brandishing in the world and are providing news headlines or happening within my very community. I will describe the various characteristics of the disaster chosen and apply the disaster managementstages. Current Natural or Man Made Disaster The current natural disaster I will be discussing pertains to the flooding in Houston, Texas. The initial flooding occurred on April 18, 2016 afflicting nine counties in and around Houston, placing them in a state of disaster. Seven lives have been taken as a result of the immense flooding. 1,000 homes have been flooded, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Preventability measures are taken to prepare for disasters that are known risk for happening. Although not all disastrous events can be prevented initially, steps can be taken to reduce the impact and after effects when they do occur. For instance, with the Houston flood, numerous reservoirs were constructed to help control some overflow of some 67 billion gallons of water. Imminence coincides with predictability in most cases and also helps the planning of prevention and control when it can be implemented. Weather forecasters can be detrimental when it comes to predicting a flood as this can predict expected rainfall duration and amounts. The scope and number of casualties is usually tallied during and after a disastrous event as the baseline is always zero prior to the event happening. This specific criteria represents the number of people displaced, injured or killed per event happening. Intensity is typically measured before an event to help garner some sort of ability to prepare for an expected incoming crisis. Intensity can also be measured during a disaster to help foretell fatality rates and also overall damage incurrence. Application of Disaster Management Stages Prevention, preparation and planning, responsiveness, and recovery are all the stages of managing a disaster. Prevention is the first stage in disaster management. This stage occurs before a disaster takes place and identifies possible risks. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether this translated into the consumption of movies, clothing, beauty products or household goods, women influenced and participated in the development of consumer culture in America. The Power and Beauty of Superb Womanhood delineates a shift in American culture at the turn of the century; the creation of the New Woman and her participation in the public sphere. Lois Rudnick, author of the book titled The New Woman states that Between 1890 and 1920 women writers and reformers made major contributions to literature and the arts, as well as to social and political reforms. From the Victorian age culture of the 1890s, to 1920, the year women were granted suffrage with the nineteenth amendment; the New Woman emerged in literature, the arts and reform movements. The New Woman was a consumer who was not guilty of partaking in leisure, self indulgence and sensual pleasure. The white middle class woman was no longer restricted by the ideals of the Victorian woman, but rather now enjoyed freedoms she did not have before. On July 4, 1776, thirteen colonies declared independence from English rule, eventually forming the United States of America ( American History, 2016). Built upon a unique platform of autonomy, the United States provides citizens with freedoms not present in other countries. In order to preserve such freedoms, the Constitution of the United States was enacted in 1797, outlining an array of rights and privileges afforded to all citizens of the country ( American History, 2016). However, as in any society, crime and abuse pervaded the peace of the nation, continuing to date. Methods of public, social control span deep into the history of the United States, in an effort to combat wrongful, illicit activity, or crime. With the first official police force established in 1838, law enforcement has grown rapidly within the nation, employing millions (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2015). Nevertheless, with the evolution of law enforcement, crime and the American population have also evolved. In the present day United States, fear and unrest regarding personal rights and freedoms are overwhelmingly prevalent, often creating controversy between the public and the police. • 27. Fructose Intolerance And The Aldolase B Gene And Fructose Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene and Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate aldolase. Both are important because it is responsible for gluconeogenesis and fructose metabolism. Gluconeogenesis is the metabolic pathway that results in the production of glucose from non carbohydrate carbon substrates or the opposite of Glycolysis (Figure 1). In simple terms, a mutation on Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate would both hinder the production of pyruvate and the production of glucose. Fructose Intolerance is also referred to as Fructose 1 Phosphate Aldolase Deficiency. The modified enzymevaries in its original function and structure that derived from a restricted genetic mutation (Cox, O Donnell, Camilleri, and Burghes). Aldolase B is classified as a Lyase, or an enzyme that catalyzes the breaking of various bonds means other than hydrolysis and oxidation. Lyase often forms a double bond or a new ring structure. Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene which is expressed in the liver (Malay, Allen, and Tolan). Its molecular compound is shown in Figure 2 and has two active site residues, Lysine and Glutamate, as well as several charged residues. The functional assignment is complex because of the proximity of the many charged amino acids found at the active site. He was a man with ambition, great self control and calculation, a great strategist, a genius; whatever it was, he was simply the best. But, even though how great this person was, something about how he governed France still floats among people s minds. Did he abuse his power? Did Napoleon defeat the purpose of the ideals of the French Revolution? After all of his success in his military campaigns, did he gratify the people s needs regarding their ideals on the French Revolution? This is one of the many controversies that we have to deal with when studying Napoleon and the French Revolution. In this essay, I will discuss my opinion on whether or not was he a destroyer of the ideals of the French Revolution. Certain individuals approved of Napoleon s reign as the saviour of France. He finished and completed the Revolution by fulfilling the ideals the people of France demanded. A person such as one belonging to the bourgeoisie, or even a peasant would be very satisfied with the way Napoleon ruled over the country. He gave them equality, freedom, justice, and many rights. Such things never existed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While some scholars have a more deterministic viewpoint and consider human personality as fairly predictable and stable over time (e.g. biogenetic determinism), other theorists view personality as fluid and highly malleable (e.g. behaviorism). The intermediate stance assumes a bidirectional relationship between heredity and environment, which allows for both consistency and change in personality. Moreover, some theorists introduce a third element to a biosocial model the individual (e.g. transactional model of socialization). Allport used an idiographic approach that emphasized uniqueness of individuals, evaluating categories of values within a person, instead of across groups. This approach reduces researchers bias as the study is focused on investigation of traits presented in each individual, rather than a theorized central trait (Burger, 2010). Allport was influential in conceptualizing of personality, but his trait model is rather philosophical than scientific. Falsification of his hypothesis and organization of psychological data under his theory is difficult, and, consequently, measurement of personality stability or change is problematic. Contrary to Allport, personality analysis of Eysenck was nomothetic in nature, with strong emphases on biological foundations of traits. To construct and explain personality he used typical for the natural sciences approach that support generalization. Through statistical evaluation Eysenck established two main bipolar dimensions of personality, which he called supertraits extraversion/introversion (E) and neuroticism/stability (N). Later, he added another dimension, psychoticism/superego functioning (P), which maintained less defined. Analysis Of Two Lovers And A Beachcomber By Sylvia Plath Sylvia Plath and Two Lovers and a Beachcomber by the Real Sea Sylvia Plath, while one of the best known poets of the 20th century, has diminished in popularity to the modern audience. Despite this, Plath s work is still poignant today with its self examination of life in the context of poor mental health and its confessional style that has become a staple of American literature. On October 27, 1932, Sylvia Plath was born to Aurelia Schober and Otto Plath, both immigrants of Germanic descent. Although she was born in Boston, Sylvia Plath spent her childhood years in Winthrop, Massachusetts, a smaller coastal town. Unfortunately, Plath lost her father to diabetes related complications in November of 1940 at the young age of eight; however, her eighth year of life also brought her the publication of her first poem in the children s section of The Boston Herald. Two years later, the Plath family moved to Wellesley, Massachusetts, so her mother could work at Boston University and support the family. Plath excelled at her school in Wellesley and began to receive prizes and awards for her writing. Along with her natural intelligence, this culminated in a personality that her mother described as precocious as well as the development of perfectionist tendencies that would afflict her significantly later in life (Barnard 15). Similarly, America s entrance into World War II in 1944 contributed to Sylvia Plath s pessimistic outlook on human nature. Additionally, as she grew up and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since this time, hip hop has become a multi cultural fusion of many different contributions made by several ethnic groups like Caucasians, Asians, blacks, and Hispanics, to name just a few. Hip hop has definitely exploded within many cultures and subcultures throughout the world and within the past decade or so; it has been getting widespread exposure. When hip hop music and the whole culture of the movement first came onto the scene, it incorporated many different art forms. These art forms include deejaying [cuttin and scratchin ], emceeing or rapping, beatboxing, breakdancing, and graffiti art. In today s society, hip hop still incorporates these different art forms, but it also includes the way you dress; the language or terminology you use; and the way you walk, act, and look. Hip hop music on a whole has always been a form of self expression depicting a person s lifestyle; their pain; their struggle; and the realities of street life. Burns (2009) emphasized the findings of a community survey that indicated that Americans do not have equal opportunity to receive proper mental health care treatment. (Burns, 2009) A community survey in the US (a high income country), for example, reported that low income individuals cited financial barriers to accessing care. However, this was not the case in the Netherlands or in Canada, both HICs, where economic disparities and income inequality are lower. Also in the US, a house hold survey of adolescents found that those of low income status reported far more structural barriers to accessing mental health services than did their middle and high income counterparts. (Burns, 2009: 23) Victoria Ojeda and Sara Bergstress (2008) conducted a research study by administering surveys to measure the perceptions and attitudes of participants who indicated that they needed mental health care treatment and were not receiving it. 44.5% of participants indicated that finances were a barrier as to why they were not receiving mental health care treatment. (Ojeda, Bergstress, 2008) Charles Zastrow (2014) expressed that studies have shown that when one has a mental illness, they tend to face financial difficulties due to their illness as it results in a lowered social status and decrease in earning power (Zastrow: 2014: 159) Social class also dictates the quality of treatment the individual will receive as studies have ...
