Further, performance measures should be explicitly linked via a strategy map of hypothesized cause
and effect relationships that depict the firm s strategy (Kaplan and Norton 2000; 2004). Improvements
in measures of organizational capabilities are expected to drive improvements in the execution of
internal processes which in turn lead to customer and financial outcomes. In this way, the balanced
scorecard framework explicitly recognizes interrelationships between strategy specific measures of
financial and customer outcomes and inputoriented performance drivers related to the firm s internal
processes and organizational capabilities. However, managers must formulate strategies, and select
related objectives and measures, based on exante expectations about how the strategy will translate
into financial performance. Thus, the strategic objectives and performance measures chosen for an
organization s scorecard are often based on uncertain hypotheses about how measured performance
against these objectives ultimately leads to financial performance. Proponents of the balanced
scorecard concept have long recognized this uncertainty. To mitigate against it, and as a mechanism
for strategic feedback and learning, they have

Boynton Harbor Marina Case Study
Boynton Harbor Marina: Redeveloped and Open for Business
On Friday, March 31, 2017, the Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA)
celebrated a monumental day that represented thirteen long years of hard work and dedication, as the
Marina Open Space and Roadway Improvement project came to an end with a ceremonial ribbon
cutting ceremony at the Boynton Harbor Marina.
The project began in 2006, shortly after being approved by the CRA Board of Directors and Boynton
Beach Commissioners. The development project was headed by Michael Simon, who is now the CRA
s Interim Executive Director. To successfully complete the project, the CRA collaborated with many

The marina is sure to increase property value for the condos and bring fresh tenants to eastern
Boynton Beach.
The Boynton Harbor Marina serves as a landmark, bringing the community together, and reveals a
glimpse into the future of Boynton Beach. The marina redevelopment project has allowed marine
business tenants to showcase their vessels/operations to the public that enables them to gain a
customer base that may not have been attained in the past.
The completion of the CRA s Master Marina Redevelopment Plan is a fundamental step towards the
greater goal to redevelop downtown Boynton Beach. The Boynton Harbor Marina is home to a variety
of businesses, provides a destination hot spot for tourists; drives the local economy by bringing new
businesses to the city, and contributes to the growth of new jobs for residents.
Visitors to the marina are welcomed and encouraged to grab a delicious dish or creative cocktail from
the Two Georges Waterfront Restaurant or Banana Boat. Or visitors to the marina can snag a ride on

Surveillance In 1984 By George Orwell
In George Orwell s 1984 we are introduced to a totalitarian society known as Oceania which is ran by
the political group known as the Party. The Party is able to control every aspect of person s life by
using terror, surveillance, and a repressive bureaucracy to exert total power over the individual
(Kellner, 2). They are able to control their jobs, relationships, and even their minds. The Party uses
carefully constructed tools in order for them to maintain control over the people. The Party can only
maintain control if they are able to control the minds of the people and keep them in a constant state of
confusion and paranoia. The Party does this by using surveillance, Newspeak, and manipulating the
past. One of the tools used by the Party is surveillance. The people of Oceania are in a constant state
of being monitored by the Party through invasive technology and loyal followers of the Party such as
telescreens and children. Michael Yeo states, Instances of surveillances divide into two main kinds:
panoptical and surreptitious (Yeo, 53). Panoptical surveillance is internalized self supervision or self
surveillance. It is the belief that one is being watch, so one censors themselves from unorthodox
thoughts in order to avoid detection. There was no way to be certain if you were being watched or not.

The Effects Of Teen Pregnancy On The United States
Teen Pregnancy and the Link to Poverty in the U.S. with A Focus on Western Ma Especially Holyoke
and Springfield Mass
In the 1950s, the frequency of teenage births in the United States was already high, and since that,
time has decreased, although the number of births outside marriage has increased. Thus, in 1990 the
rate was 61.8 births, pregnancy rate 116.9 per 1,000. The incidence of teenage pregnancy has
decreased significantly in the 1990s. This decline is observed in all racial groups, but Teenagers,
African Americans and Hispanic teens remain higher frequency compared with Americans of
European and Asian origin. Guttmacher Institute, about 25% of this decline carried her share of sexual
abstinence and 75% on the effective use of contraceptives. However, in 2006 the first time in 14 years,
the incidence of teenage births has increased. This would imply that the incidence rates of teenage
pregnancy are also on the rise, but marked by the rise could be linked to other sources: for example,
reducing the number of abortions or a decrease in the number of abortions.
In 2002, the United States noted 53 teen births per 1,000 women aged 15 19 years, the highest among
developed countries. If all pregnancies, including those that ended in abortion or miscarriage, taken
into account that in 2000 the total value of the frequency of pregnancies accounted would be 75.4 per
1,000 adolescent women. State of Nevada and the District of Columbia have the highest rate of

Failure to Escape Traumatic Shock
Failure to Escape Traumatic Shock by Seligman and Maier The purpose of this study was to determine
the type of learning acquisition in dogs that were subjected to three different styles of electric shock.
They wanted to determine what method of learning worked the best to avoid a shock for an extended
period of time. Each of the three groups of dogs learned escape/avoidance training, however the
escape group and the yoked group gained more training than the normal control group. The escape
group was taught during their training that touching the side panels during the shock would terminate
it. This was repeated 64 times in the harness and the same training was done 10 more times in the

The Fall Sioux City Crash
The essay will be discussing about the failure of mankind due to inefficient engineering projects. It
will also explain , the major cause of each disaster and its effect on the surroundings.
The 1989 Sioux city crash :
Introduction:
John Fielder s The 1989 Sioux City Crash talks about the moral issues of a tail motor outline and
contrasts the DC 10 and other flying machine . As in alternate mishaps , loss of the motor ought not
have brought about loss of the airplane however , as in alternate mischances , consequent harm to the
DC 10 s control framework prompted the accident. Fielder. J.H,(1992).
Causes:
Debate proceeds with today over the DC 10 s security as a result of the 1989 accident of United
Airlines Flight 232 in Sioux City , Iowa , in which 111 individuals passed on . Inquiries have again
been raised about the sufficiency of assurance for the control frameworks in the DC 10 . The National
Transportation Safety Board Report on the 1989 Sioux City Crash found that the reason for the
mischance was a metallurgical blemish in the fan gathering of the back motor. A split in the 370 pound
fan plate began from the defect and in the end made it crumble . Trash from the blast separated all
water driven lines , denying the pilot of control over the flying surfaces on the tail and wings . the

The New Zealand s Landscape
New Zealand s landscape is commonly identified by many people worldwide as being clean, fresh and
pure. The rivers, lakes, wetlands and pastoral areas within New Zealand are all unique and allow life
to flourish. However, over recent years, in some rural and urban areas, water quality has slowly
become more and more polluted as the need to use land by many growing industries has intensified
with one of New Zealand s main land users being Dairy Farming. This is a huge part of New Zealand
with dairy exports contributing $17.6 billion into the national economy in the previous season of 2013
2014. However, the problem that comes with having a higher population of cows than humans within
New Zealand (4.9 million cows) is that the amount of waste that is deposited into the soils and waters
is excessive. Even though nitrates and phosphates within the waste are essential for the nutrients of
plants and soils, immense amounts can eventually be leaked through the soils or runoff into the
streams, polluting the ground waters and rivers creating a vast problem environmentally, socially and
economically. This issue summons huge conflict and controversy as contaminated rivers can cause
numerous health issues and cultural distraught that comes with the steady increase of pollution within
New Zealand s waterways. However this doesn t seem to be as much of an issue to many farmers and
dairy industries as their farms create a large profit which seems to be their prioritized focus. Without

Tidal Energy Essay
Tidal power
Fossil fuels are a finite resource. It seems that this cheap form of energy (gas and oil for our cars) will
run out in our lifetime. This is why we seek alternative energy sources. There are many different
renewable energy sources but some are better than the other. Solar energy is a very known form of
renewable energy nowadays. However, each form of energy has its pros and cons. Tidal power is a
form of renewable energy, which seems to have quite a bit more pros than con s. The moon and the
earth dance around the sun, this dance is held together by gravitational force. Every part of the moon,
earth and sun is pulled towards every other part of the earth, moon and sun. However, there are slight
imperfections between these gravitational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the most important factors for any possible future source of energy. Tidal power does
not require any fuel and therefore does not emit any greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. The effect
on our environment however, also has some downsides. Tidal turbines could disrupt the movement of
large marine animals and ships through certain shipping lanes. The construction of tidal power plants
could disrupt fish migration and could kill fish when passing through the turbines. These are all
possible drawbacks of tidal energy. The actual impacts of tidal power are very uncertain as this
particular source of energy has not been deployed and tested in our ecosystems yet. Popular believe
has it that tidal power is not renewable as extracting power from the tides slows down the earth s
rotation and that therefore tidal power is not a long term energy source. However, this is not correct.
The natural tides already slow down the earth s rotation. Tidal energy extracts energy that otherwise
would have been lost in any case. Even if we doubled the amount of energy that we would extract
from the tides, tidal energy would still be able to last for the lifetime of the

The And Quality Of Food Intake
Plenty of researches indicates that there are connections between the type, and quality of food follows
a socioeconomic class or structure. While a high quality food is associated with individuals from a
high class or of greater wealth or privilege. On the other hand, energy dense foods being poor in
nutrients are consumed by persons from lower classes and socioeconomic status and of restricted
economic power. Therefore, steak of a high and premium quality is more likely to be consumed by
individuals of a high social class. Moreover, foods that are high in fats are more likely to be associated
with people from a lower social class. Although, the socioeconomic power determines the type of food
intake, there has been no evidence suggesting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, there is the creation or a social construct of group identity that engages in gastro politics.
There is an argument that the tastes that consumers have for certain products, or the consumption of
specific products or services is socially conditioned, and these products are reflective of a symbolic
hierarchy that is maintained, or is determined by the dominant social class to enforce their distinction
from other social classes. Therefore, tastes could be a social weapon that defines a certain social class,
and it defines and differentiate the high from the low in matters that ranges from food, drinks,
newspapers and cosmetics. Consumer preferences, especially when it comes to the food consumed is
socially conditioned, and it can be seen from the upper social class selection of food.
The debate about food and class comes down to education because the idea of being taught lies at the
center of the debate or socially conditioned. Food classification and the rules are passed down from
one generation to another as advice concerning what to eat or what makes a suitable meal, the time to
eat, food preparation method, process and safe food preparation strategies. Our descendants figured
out what to eat to meet their energy and nutrition demands and then passed it down to their
descendants through enculturation. The practice has continued, and it is with this that the type of food
consumption can be assumed or examined as evidence of

Analysis Of Hatred By Kristallnacht
We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is
devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us.
When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies. By helping one you can make a huge
difference, but you not helping someone that is going through something like bullying, is also making
a huge difference. Your letting the problem go on longer, the only way to be against it is to stand with
others that are going through a similar situation. Hatred is an emotion that begins with prejudice and

I don t know anyone personally who has been bullied but by all the stories that i have heard i believe
have a good amount of information on how it can hurt that person being victimized. There are many
things that i learned about bullying and what it can do to someone or people around them. The main
thing i learned about bullying is that your not the problem its the bully that is going through something
and takes it out on someone else. Another thing is that by you bullying on someone else you can make
that person hard to go to places where they know you are going be present at, just to avoid you (for
example school). Another reason is that you can cause so much pain to the victim and their family.
Lastly if you take the bullying to extreme levels you can cause that person to take their live and cause
the family and friends pain. If you are caught bullying someone else you can be arrested. These are
things that i learned about bullying. By me learning all of this about bullying it makes me think on
how i would never have the guts to bully someone because you don t know what they are going
through already and you re just adding to it. Knowing you could be the reason that someone takes
their life or know you could be the one to cause a family pain would drive me crazy. I know that no

Limitation of Universal Life Insurance
Apply the information in the article to explain to Jason the necessary details for making a buying
decision. 1. Introduction Jason, age 25, buys a universal life policy (ULI) with a level death benefit of
$100,000. His annual planned premium that can be changed is $445. Jason is unsure about whether or
not to proceed with this Universal life policy or whether to surrender it and buy another since the
premiums are complex (he also has to pay Administrative charges and Mortality costs aside from his
monthly premiums) and he receives only $251 at the end of the first year. Jason wonders how ULI
compares to other types of life insurance. Being too that he is only 25, he may be able to find another
type of policy that can give him better run for his money. However, if Jason decides to surrender, he
would have to do it now, since if he surrenders at the end of the first year, he would not receive his
$251, and his surrender value is zero because of the surrender charge. The point of this essay,
therefore, is to determine whether or not it would be worthwhile for Jason to hold onto his universal
life policy or to relinquish it, right away, for an alternate life policy. The essay discusses factors that
will impinge on Jason s decision such as premature death; amount of life insurance to own; types of
life insurance; and the Limitation of Universal Life Insurance. Working through these issues will help
us come to some decision. The first thing that Jason would need to be aware

North Country By Niki Caro
Films reflect all aspects of life, like the depiction of law in society. This much is true in the 2005 film
North Country , directed by Niki Caro, based on a fictionalized interpretation of the first historic class
action sexual harassment lawsuit in the United States, Jenson v Eveleth Mines. The film focuses on
the main character Josie, a single mom to two children, trapped by her abusive husband and the lack
of decent paying jobs for women so she could support her family. Josie escapes, going back to her
hometown in the rural part of Northern Minnesota, but the only way to support her family was to go to
work in the iron mines. Even though the mines had been hiring women for years, male employees still
outnumbered females when Josie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finding three plaintiffs with similar grievances proved to be difficult, since a lot of the female mine
workers relied heavily on their jobs. In the end, Josie s true character shines through, attracting
multiple plaintiffs to her case and a victorious win. One way this movie reflects the law in society is
by illustrating the difference between law on the books and law in action. Those in favor of the Civil
Rights Act of 1964, which is intended to eliminate discrimination based on characteristics like sex,
argued that laws protecting women from unpleasant jobs were...designed to enable men to monopolize
those jobs (CITE REP MARTHA GRIFFINS), which discriminated against women who were not
allowed to apply for these jobs. It wasn t until 1975, nearly eleven years after this act passed, that the
Northern Minnesota Iron Mines even hired their first female miner. From that point, it seems as if the
unconstitutional discrimination against female miner worsened to the point where men were still
outnumbering female miners 30 to 1. Not only were the female miners outnumbered but they were put
it lower level positions as opposed to their male counterparts, making the mines as Sterling and
Reichman would put it, a gendered organization (CITE). A gendered organization that promotes
discrimination against its female employees because it makes no effort to include them in

Characteristics Of Hard Discount
I. Hard discount model
a. Creation and development of this model in Germany
Firstly, I think that it is necessary to define what hard discount is to better understand how this model
works and how it has changed through the time. Hard discount store is a store that sells mainly food in
free service and this business model is also characterized by its low prices, small retail space and a
limited assortment of products. We can find some brands in hard discounters, but it represents a
minority. The reduced staff and the versatility of this one is another characteristic of this business
model.
Hard discount found its origins in Germany at the end of the 40s. Launched by the Albrecht brothers,
founders of Aldi, this new way of consuming is a success in Germany since the late 60s and for the
rest of Europe in the 80s. This revolution has known success in Germany with brands such as Norma,
Aldi and Lidl. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a way of life in Germany. There is no the cultures of food or gastronomy like in France, so it s not

Today, there are 2 giants of the discount model in the world: Aldi Lidl. The international success of
hard discount model was clearly in the 90s. In 2009, the 2 Germans companies were in the top 10
global grocery retailers, so it is significant of the success of this revolution.
Hard discount needs a special organization. This business model has to respect some rules, such as
prices below average, few marketing, few decoration, a small staff, a maximum of 800 product
references and simple rays.
Who has never felt this feeling of extreme simplicity when entering in a discounter? Consumers can
clearly identify when he is in a discounter. All these characteristics can be found in each brand of

The Search For Justice In Ian Mcewan s Atonement
The pictures painted in one s head may seem harmless or even helpful to that single individual;
however, once those pictures are introduced to the real world they can take a drastic turn. What might
seem right to one could have consequences that harm those around him or her, causing chaos and
destruction. Individuals are blinded by what they believe in and many fail to stop and think about how
their actions will affect those closest to them. Briony Tallis is a prime example of this; she wants
justice to be served for a story that is made up in her head and she does not realize the toll it will take
on those around her. In Ian McEwan s Atonement, Briony s wandering imagination leads her to seek a
fictional justice that causes people around her to suffer while the truth remains hidden; although she
later tries to amend her wrongdoings, the damage has already been done and she is unsuccessful.
During her search for justice, Briony s imagination and need to create stories strongly obscures her
idea of what a rightful justice is. She [is] one of those children possessed by a desire to have the world
just so (McEwan 4). Everything she experiences is automatically turned into an event from a story,
thus causing her mind to focus on what would go along with the story rather than what is actually
happening in the real world. This is partially because she is only 13, making her too young to
understand the consequences of paying too much attention to the artificial world rather than

What Is Kipling s View On Imperialism
Imperialism
Imperialism is when a country extends its power and influences through diplomacy or military force.
Most imperialism happens when a nation is more industrialized than another and they go to another
country to help them industrialize. Throughout history several authors have expressed their feelings
toward the controversial subject. I will discuss Mark Twain, George Orwell, and Rudyard Kipling s
views on imperialism below by looking into some of their works.
When you first read Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell you may think it is a story to entertain
you. However, the entire piece is a metaphor about Britain imperialism. Orwell s views on
imperialism is quickly identified when he says For at that time I had already made up my mind that
imperialism was an evil thing. (Shooting an Elephant George Orwell) As the story progresses the
police officer is given orders to find a ravaging elephant who was destroying the village in Burma and
its people. Once the officer finds the elephant he contemplates shooting it because it looked so
peaceful. In the end the officer succumbs to the peer pressure from the large crowd following him, and

is the only one of these authors who was pro imperialism. In his poem he repeats the phrase take up

to spread western culture to poorer countries. In this poem Kipling asserts that his culture is superior
therefore, he has an obligation to help these people of other cultures better themselves even if they don

The Character Quoyle in Annie Proulx s The Shipping News...
The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure Sven Goran Eriksson. Success is an achievement in
life which most people would be appreciative towards, but failure is looked upon in a disgraceful
manner. People in society tend to face many challenges that occur in their daily lives. Some of these
challenges can affect their lives dramatically in a positive or negative way. If one decides not to
surmount their challenges they will suffer within themselves for a long period of time. Having
confidence within is considered the greatest way to overcome suffering in life. In the novel, The

Quoyle, the main character in the novel, had a rough childhood which was one of the main reasons
towards his low confidence level. Quoyle would always get pushed around and walked on which is
just like the meaning of his name, Quoyle is a rope that is always tangled together and usually on the
floor where people step all over it, which is very similar to Quoyle as a character because his life is
also tangled and confusing and he too gets walked all over and pushed around by others. A quote that
illustrates how Quoyle felt about his childhood would be, ?This gave me an uneasy feeling, the feeling
of standing on a playground watching others play games whose rules I didn?t know.? (Proulx, 63) This
demonstrates that even as an adult Quoyle had bad memories as a child that is locked into his mind.
Quoyle?s physical appearance has been a great embarrassment for him because he feels as if he is ?
ugly? because of his ?monstrous chin? as he calls it and it is shown in the novel that Quoyle hates his
chin as well, ?Quoyle put his hand over his chin.? (Proulx, 20) This is one of the constant actions
Quoyle does which shows that he is unhappy with his outer appearance. As a child Quoyle has always

it would be his brother and father. One of the main reasons he disliked his family was because

the line wasn t that big We also had special tickets which had us go to the front of the line.
It was my first time ever riding an aircraft my mom said to chew gum for, my ears so they won t pop.
well the first plane I rode was a little smaller than the other aircraft I would ride but it was still fun.
Then we reached our next airport this time the plane was a bigger plane and, way nicer than the other
one. All the window covers were down the whole flight because it had tv s built into the seats so I got
my headphones and watched movies. My third flight of the day was going to Florida, which was our
destination.
It also was a bigger plane with tv s so it didn t feel that long.
When we got to the airport it was super nice and enormous ,so we got our bags. Then we went on this
train type of thing it was fun, yet short in the airport for, us to get to the rental car area to rent a car.
When we did that, we left to a parking garage for rental cars there were a lot of nice cars there. When
we got our call, it was a Van it was nice on the inside. When we reached our hotel it was dark out and,
we were all tired. We had a sweet and my two 10 year cousins slept in one bed my aunt and mom slept
in the other and me and my 13 year

Definition Of Subjectivity Score And Objectivity Score ( Os )
namely, Subjectivity Score (SS) and Objectivity Score (OS) corresponding to Kleinberg s71 hub and
authority scores respectively for the WWW graph. Kleinberg not only takes into account the number
of links to and from a node, but also considers the relevance of linked nodes. Accordingly, if a
resource in RDF is pointed to by a resource with high SS, its OS increases. On the other hand, if a
resource points to a resource with a high OS, its SS is increased. Another important feature of this
method is contextualized weights added into the graph properties. For instance, RDF graphs are
complex with varying importance of properties which in turn depend on the subject and object it is
associated with. The study assigns distinct weights to different types of properties, based on the type
of the property and the nodes it s connecting to. Each property is assigned with a subjectivity weight
(weight that depends on the subject of the property) and an objectivity weight (weight that depends on
the object of the property). These weights play a critical role to calculate the centrality of genes. The
feasibility of this approach in candidate gene prioritization was validated by using to 60 randomly
selected diseases from a total of about 420 cardiovascular disorders with each of the diseases having
clinical synopsis and at least one implicated gene. For validation purposes, no information about any
explicit links between target gene and the disease were part of the input to the

Swot Analysis Of Aioli Gourmet Burgers
Is it a Phoenician take on the three musketeers? Or is it just a group of three friends who have come
together to create some of the best burgers available in the Phoenix area? Aioli Gourmet Burgers is by
far one of the best restaurants in Phoenix and to make it a little more special they started out as a food
truck. From a little truck to now three active food trucks and a brick and mortar building they have
overcome the struggle and have begun to live their dreams. Not to mention two and a half years ahead
of schedule (Frigerio). I believe Aioli has exploded in the way that they have due to their desire to
make the customer happy, their use of fresh ingredients and unique ideas, and their willingness to

uniquely built around the aioli, but you can also just order them as a side to try with whatever you d
like. They seem to think of everything. Their onions are pickled in house, and they also have a
homemade beer cheese. When they were a food truck there was a lot of talk about how people wanted
shakes or desserts of some kind. Well, when they got themselves a brick and mortar they finally
delivered. They now have three shakes. One of which stands out the most, the chocolate lover.
Starting with a base of chocolate ice cream it is layered with heath crumbles, brownie pieces, and
chocolate syrup. Now let s gets down to the burgers. Made with quality beef that is seasoned perfectly,
these bad boys come stacked high with the freshest and sometimes local, when possible, ingredients.
All placed on a soft fresh baked brioche bun, or wrapped in lettuce if that s something you re into.
They have seven burgers all ranging in price from seven to nine dollars. Don t fret, although they seem
somewhat pricey, they offer discounts on sides and drinks with the purchase of a burger. They recently

Inferiority Complex In Adler
Adler came up with the theory Inferiority Complex in 1907/1917. This train of thought would have
been a very abstract way of thinking of personality as it was so very different from the main voice on
the matter at the time, that voice being Freud. This theory mainly explained that everyone feels
inferior some of the time throughout their lives however; others may focus too much on their
inferiorities and therefore develop what Adler called an Inferiority Complex about ourselves.
(Hergenhahn, 2013.pg.522). We then spend too much time thinking about our inferiority therefore
becoming defensive and untrusting towards other individuals. According to Adler, individuals that
present an inferiority complex tend to either over compensate in areas of ... Show more content on

This concept has a significant effect on the style of life which Adler explains is the attitude in which
one takes towards their life. (Maltby, 2010.pg.44). Birth order is a prominent aspect in psychoanalysis
that is still relevant today, it helps to explain a great deal about the behaviour one displays and their
personality. In reference to the Universal movie Thor (2011), the character of Loki exhibits the main
characteristics of the youngest child. He is manipulative towards his parents and older brother in order
to get what he wants. (www.Marvel.com)Youngest children like to push boundaries to see what they
can get away with, but at the same time they have a need for praise in the things that they do. They are
in constant competition to be the same or better than their older siblings almost to say that they are just
as able and worthy of the independence given to the older child. Robert Lundin (1998) stated that
youngest children strive to excel and to surpass the older ones to become the conquering hero .
(Lundin, 1998) Pg. 65) Adler suggested that the order that one comes in the family can have an impact
on their personality because of their realisation of an inferiority that has come to light in their mind
which in turn can lead to neurosis. (Adler, 1927 as cited in Maltby, 2010). Pg.

Enormouse Wealth of CEO s
Let me start off by saying 2.27 billion. What does that make you think of? Some of you may think it is
the population of a specific continent? Others may think it is the amount of petroleum being drilled

creator of Facebook, made in one year. Executive compensation is bonuses and benefits given to CEO
s of companies on top of the base salary they are receiving. The amount, as you see, can be
astronomical which will lead one to question the ethics of employee compensation programs. While it
may motivate some people to perform better so they may increase stockholders wealth, it may also
have an adverse effect on the executive which will have an effect on the entire company as was the

employee compensation is unethical, detrimental to the health of companies, and disadvantageous to

factors that have an effect on the company. According to an economic theory known as the Optimal

Consumer Behavior And Consumer Behaviour
Introduction
A consumer is any person that is involved in the process of consumption. They are identified
according to the market type to which they belong, namely final and industrial consumers (Solomon,
et al., 2013). Understanding the consumer behaviors will aid in appreciating the various market
segments and developing strategies for effecting market penetration in these segments. It will also
help in identifying market gaps and shape their needs and objectives so as to solve the day to day
consumer s concerns in purchase.
The single purpose of all production is consumption. The producer s interest should only be attended
to as far as it is necessary in promoting the needs of a consumer (Smith, 1937 p. 125). Studies on
consumer behavior began in the 1960s, and later several consumer theories which focused on the
consumer from various perspectives were developed. Marketers use these theories to deveop
marketing strategies based on attitudes, interests and consumer perception.
Consumer behavior theories All major consumer theories can be grouped into four categories, namely
economic, psychological, psycho analytical, and socio cultural theories. They are based on the simple
law of conumption that consumption increases as aggregate income increases, assuming the habits of
spending are constant and political and economic conditions are free and perfect (Solomon, et al.,
2013).
Economic theories Economic theories on consumption are focused on how income is allocated and

The Memory System Essay example
Memories are creative recollections of past experiences that are unique to each individual. They define
us and give us our identity. Memories are a collection of information, which at one time was new to
us, and as we learned and progressed, that information became stored as memory. The main fact to
memory is that practice and repetition is a key asset to making the brain encode the information as
memory. When the brain encodes this information it is stored, waiting to be retrieved. When we
memorize something, it is stored for a certain amount of time in the brain, the more we recall this
information the more familiar we become with it, making it easier to remember and recall later in life.
The process of memory is still a mystery, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While yet it is the most complex process neuroscience has ever tried to define. Most theorists believe
that the brain encodes information in two different types, motor skills memory and factual memory.
Motor skills memory is the memorization of functions like running, walking, or eating. While factual
memory is associated with the memorization of telephone number, names, places, and experiences.
Some theorists believe this is the basic foundation to memories. Associated with these two types are
three levels, Sensory memory, Short term memory, and Long term memory. Sensory memory is the
level, which absorbs the things around us using the five main senses, sight, smell, touch, sound, and
taste. This level of memory is thought to only last a matter of seconds, and only moves on to the next
level if enough attention is given to the information. (Baddeley, 1976) If not enough attention is given
to the information it is ignored by the brain and forgotten. (Howe, 1983) The second level of memory
is the Short term memory. This level is believed to only have a capacity of 7 items, and have a
duration time of no more than thirty seconds. (Bjork, 1996) When memories in the short term are used
more and more it sends it to the next level, but again this is only done by practice or repetition. A way
for most people to remember more things, in the short term is called Chunking. This is where someone

The Relationship Between Plato s Regimes And Current U.s....
Cooperation and Contrast between Plato s Regimes and Current U.S. Government
The U.S. government is a union of partially self governing states or regions under a central
government. It is composed of three distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose
powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the federal courts. The
separation of powers, which neither any branch working alone can change the U.S. constitution, is a
kind of harmony that is similar to what is described in Plato s aristocratic regime, where each class
minds their own jobs to keep the state functioning. Besides, in my opinion, the current U.S.
government is a combination of timocracy, oligarchy and democracy, which of four regime types of
Plato.
According to Socrates, in Timoracy, the spiritedness, which is the love of victory and honors, will be
predominant. Timoracy honours the rulers while is contemptuous of manual activities and trade; for its
rulers, they will eat communally and devote themselves to gymnastics and training for war. Timoracy
will be also governed in being afraid to appoint the wise as rulers, instead, selecting spirited and
simpler man, men naturally more directed to war than to peace (Plato 547e). Although they will desire
money, they will be niggardly of money since they cannot acquire money openly; therefore, they will
love to spend others money to fulfill their aspirations. Due to attach importance to physical training,

These are plasma proteins which are released into the blood stream, mainly produced in the liver by
the hepatocytes (Cray et al., 2009) as part of the Acute Phase Response (APR), that either increase or
decrease in response to the tissue damage (Jain et al., 2011; Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005). The APR
is a non specific and complex systemic reaction, part of the early defense or innate immune system,
which is triggered by different stimuli such as infections, trauma and inflammations in order to
reconstitute homeostasis and induce healing (Cray et al., 2009; Tothova et al., 2014). As well as in
humans, APP in animals are sensitive to similar triggering events in response to inflammatory stimuli.
A variety of APP have been recorded, such as: fibrinogen, haptoglobin (HP), serum amyloid A (SAA);
C reactive protein (CRP); ceruloplasmin (CER), major acute phase protein (MAP) and α1 acid
glycoprotein (AGP) (Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005); differentiating their levels according to each
species (Cray et al., 2009; Eckersall and Bell, 2010). Thus, APP have been described for their
application in human medicine to diagnose and prognosticate different inflammatory and organ
diseases. However; altered levels of APP monitored in animals might provide an alternative method to
measure conditions or situations that may be influencing the concentration of these proteins in plasma
(Tothova et al., 2014). For instance, in livestock; APP have been presented as markers of health

Bunch And Athlete As Agent Of Change

Any individual who aspires to be something similar to these renown athletes will mindfully watch the
athletes every move, and chances are, they will become emotionally attached to that person s opinion

Stage Machinery Of Baroque Theaters
Stage Machinery of Baroque Theaters The theater s combination of music and acting made them
extremely popular with the whole of Western Europe. The baroque theaters, however, not only wanted
to entertain their audiences but also captivate and astound them. Theaters started using special effects
to amaze their audiences with the visual as well as the auditory; this made theater the most treasured
art form of Europe. In order to amaze their audiences, theaters used extremely elaborate stage
machinery as part of their special effects. One example of this is the deus ex machina. The deus ex
machina was first used in ancient Greek and Roman drama, where it meant the timely appearance of a
god to unravel and resolve the plot. The deus ex machina was named for the convention of the god s
appearing in the sky, an effect achieved by means of a crane. Giovanni Legrenzi s deus ex machina in
his opera Germanico sul Reno was very different from the ancient Greek crane. Legrenzi s deus ex
machina was a mammoth stage machine used to make it look as if Apollo was descending from the
heavens to rescue the hero while in the background other Greek gods float in the clouds. This stage
machinery was monumental because nothing as elaborate and eye catching had ever been used before.
Not only did the big, dramatic scenes get more elaborate and impressive, but so did the smaller, more
subtle opera scenes. Trap doors were used for dramatic entrances from the underworld. The

Pop R B Group Destiny s Child Before Embarking On A...
One of the most recognizable figures in contemporary music, Beyoncé rose to fame as the central
member of pop R B group Destiny s Child before embarking on a multi platinum, record breaking
solo career in 2001. Booming record sales, Grammy awards, movie roles, and marriage to rapper/CEO
Jay Z combined to heighten her profile in the 2000s. Billboard named her female artist of the decade,
while the RIAA acknowledged that, through 64 gold and platinum certifications, she was the decade s
top selling artist. Once she released her fifth solo album in 2013, it was evident that the singer,
songwriter, and dancer wasn t merely an entertainer but a progressive artist as well. Born in Houston
in September 1981, Beyoncé+¬ Giselle Knowles began performing at age seven, winning over 30
local competitions for her dancing and vocal abilities. She joined her cousin Kelly Rowland and
classmates LaTavia Roberson and LaToya Luckett in forming an adolescent vocal group. Mathew
Knowles, Beyoncé+¬ s father and Rowland s legal guardian, signed on to be the girls manager,
eventually quitting his full time job to focus on their efforts. This situation would ultimately lead to
the creation of one of the most popular female R B groups of all time Destiny s Child. Destiny s Child
gained momentum throughout the 90s. They appeared on Star Search in 1992 (under the name Girls
Tyme) and weathered several lineup changes before signing to Columbia in 1997. Four studio albums

Communism In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Author George Orwell models a farm of animals after a class system that inevitably exists in which
animals fall into stronger and weaker roles and ranks based on their position. In Animal Farm by
George Orwell, the author allegorically utilizes the animals on the farm to deconstruct the class
systems, and show the weaknesses of a communist government. Animal Farm by George Orwell
allegorically embodies communism throughout the novel with the created concept of animalism.
Introduced by one of the main characters Major, the first leader of the animals, when he brought about
the plot of equality. During his most influential speech, Major says, I merely repeat, remember always
your duty of enmity towards Man and all his ways. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. And remember also that in fighting against
Man, we must not come to resemble him. Even when you have conquered him, do not adopt his vices.
No animal must ever live in a house, or sleep in a bed, or wear clothes, or drink alcohol, or smoke
tobacco, or touch money, or engage in trade. All the habits of Man are evil. And, above all, no animal
must ever tyrannise over his own kind. Weak or strong, clever or simple, we are all brothers. No
animal must ever kill any other animal. All animals are equal. (Orwell, 3) This monologue in the
middle of chapter one, allows the reader to make a connection to communism from the beginning to
allow for further understanding. Animalism and Communism share the aspect of equality amongst all
citizens but in its roots, the idea is flawed in both mind and practice. As mentioned in an article by
Occupy Theory, one of the greatest flaws with communism, and as seen in Animal Farm as a great
obstacle, the lower class is unable to question the actions of their superiors, this amount of power
tends to corrupt those who have it. The ruling class of communist nations tends to become quite
greedy, since there is no way for the classes beneath them to gain insight into how their nation truly
works . It is seen throughout the entire novel of Animal Farm by George Orwell that the animals are
ignorant to the corruption in their government and the practices they

Examples Of Revenge Tragedy In The Duchess Of Maldy
A revenge tragedy is one in which the tragedy is brought about by the pursuit and accomplishment of
revenge. In other words, its blood asking for blood. The revenge tragedy was very popular during the
Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, and it owned its popularity largely to the influence of Seneca, the
ancient Roman dramatist. Revenge tragedy is different from other tragedies in the sense that the whole
part of the tragedy will be based on revenge. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, though Macduff kills
Macbeth to avenge the killing of his family, the play can t be called a revenge tragedy as Macbeth
himself is responsible for his own tragic end. The Duchess of Malfi by the English dramatist John
Webster is a macabre, revenge tragic play. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no ghost but the echo from the Duchess tomb fulfils one of the functions of the ghost of
revenge tragedy. The voice warns a doomed man of his danger and, at the same time, reveals the
unknown fact of its own death. The play is sometimes ridiculed by modern critics for the excessive
violence and horror. The severed hands of dead Antonio, the wax figures of the Duchess children,
dance of the mad men, the appearance of the tomb maker, and the executioner with all the apparatus of
death bring in the elements of horror in the play. In a typical revenge play, the protagonist directs his
revenge towards an unjust action, but the vengeance is followed by a series of retributions, which
ultimately lead to the death of many characters. The Duchess, Anotonio, Cardinal, Ferdinand, Julia,
Bosola etc are all murdered for revenge. Though it begins as a love story it ends as a dreadful tragedy.
The violence and the horror scenes give it the touch it needs to be a revenge tragedy. Though all the
main characters are dead order is restored at the end. The Antonio s eldest son is raised to the throne
giving a sign of hope to the spectators after all the

Essay On Conscription In Canada
The military service act that was passed in 1917 and legalized conscription truly revolutionized
Canada s future. It resulted in the increase of the Canadian economy and respect for women in our
society. Additionally, it gave women more political rights.
The Canadian economy increased drastically due to conscription. As more and more Canadians joined
the war the demand for Canadian resources increased and new industries were formed. Our wheat,
cheese, pork, and beef export triples as shortages increased. Additionally, there was a boom in steel
and munitions industries and by 1917 Canada was making one third of all shells used by the British.
Most importantly income and business profit taxes were implemented to pay for war expenses. These
taxes still exist today and pay for our schools, hospital and other public benefits. Every individual
during this period, who wanted a job was able to attain one. In fact, many Canadians had excess
income that they could invest in victory bonds. Due to conscription, every Canadian had a personal
connection, so they were willing to work hard and sacrifice some of their income to help the war
efforts and in turn helping the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Further, performance measures should be explicitly linked via a strategy map of hypothesized cause and effect relationships that depict the firm s strategy (Kaplan and Norton 2000; 2004). Improvements in measures of organizational capabilities are expected to drive improvements in the execution of internal processes which in turn lead to customer and financial outcomes. In this way, the balanced scorecard framework explicitly recognizes interrelationships between strategy specific measures of financial and customer outcomes and inputoriented performance drivers related to the firm s internal processes and organizational capabilities. However, managers must formulate strategies, and select related objectives and measures, based on exante expectations about how the strategy will translate into financial performance. Thus, the strategic objectives and performance measures chosen for an organization s scorecard are often based on uncertain hypotheses about how measured performance against these objectives ultimately leads to financial performance. • 4. Surveillance In 1984 By George Orwell In George Orwell s 1984 we are introduced to a totalitarian society known as Oceania which is ran by the political group known as the Party. The Party is able to control every aspect of person s life by using terror, surveillance, and a repressive bureaucracy to exert total power over the individual (Kellner, 2). They are able to control their jobs, relationships, and even their minds. The Party uses carefully constructed tools in order for them to maintain control over the people. The Party can only maintain control if they are able to control the minds of the people and keep them in a constant state of confusion and paranoia. The Party does this by using surveillance, Newspeak, and manipulating the past. One of the tools used by the Party is surveillance. The people of Oceania are in a constant state of being monitored by the Party through invasive technology and loyal followers of the Party such as telescreens and children. Michael Yeo states, Instances of surveillances divide into two main kinds: panoptical and surreptitious (Yeo, 53). Panoptical surveillance is internalized self supervision or self surveillance. It is the belief that one is being watch, so one censors themselves from unorthodox thoughts in order to avoid detection. There was no way to be certain if you were being watched or not. This decline is observed in all racial groups, but Teenagers, African Americans and Hispanic teens remain higher frequency compared with Americans of European and Asian origin. Guttmacher Institute, about 25% of this decline carried her share of sexual abstinence and 75% on the effective use of contraceptives. However, in 2006 the first time in 14 years, the incidence of teenage births has increased. This would imply that the incidence rates of teenage pregnancy are also on the rise, but marked by the rise could be linked to other sources: for example, reducing the number of abortions or a decrease in the number of abortions. In 2002, the United States noted 53 teen births per 1,000 women aged 15 19 years, the highest among developed countries. If all pregnancies, including those that ended in abortion or miscarriage, taken into account that in 2000 the total value of the frequency of pregnancies accounted would be 75.4 per 1,000 adolescent women. • 8. The New Zealand s Landscape New Zealand s landscape is commonly identified by many people worldwide as being clean, fresh and pure. The rivers, lakes, wetlands and pastoral areas within New Zealand are all unique and allow life to flourish. However, over recent years, in some rural and urban areas, water quality has slowly become more and more polluted as the need to use land by many growing industries has intensified with one of New Zealand s main land users being Dairy Farming. This is a huge part of New Zealand with dairy exports contributing $17.6 billion into the national economy in the previous season of 2013 2014. However, the problem that comes with having a higher population of cows than humans within New Zealand (4.9 million cows) is that the amount of waste that is deposited into the soils and waters is excessive. Even though nitrates and phosphates within the waste are essential for the nutrients of plants and soils, immense amounts can eventually be leaked through the soils or runoff into the streams, polluting the ground waters and rivers creating a vast problem environmentally, socially and economically. This issue summons huge conflict and controversy as contaminated rivers can cause numerous health issues and cultural distraught that comes with the steady increase of pollution within New Zealand s waterways. • 9. Tidal Energy Essay Tidal power Fossil fuels are a finite resource. It seems that this cheap form of energy (gas and oil for our cars) will run out in our lifetime. This is why we seek alternative energy sources. There are many different renewable energy sources but some are better than the other. Solar energy is a very known form of renewable energy nowadays. However, each form of energy has its pros and cons. Tidal power is a form of renewable energy, which seems to have quite a bit more pros than con s. Tidal power does not require any fuel and therefore does not emit any greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. The effect on our environment however, also has some downsides. Tidal turbines could disrupt the movement of large marine animals and ships through certain shipping lanes. The construction of tidal power plants could disrupt fish migration and could kill fish when passing through the turbines. These are all possible drawbacks of tidal energy. The actual impacts of tidal power are very uncertain as this particular source of energy has not been deployed and tested in our ecosystems yet. Popular believe has it that tidal power is not renewable as extracting power from the tides slows down the earth s rotation and that therefore tidal power is not a long term energy source. However, this is not correct. The natural tides already slow down the earth s rotation. Tidal energy extracts energy that otherwise would have been lost in any case. Even if we doubled the amount of energy that we would extract from the tides, tidal energy would still be able to last for the lifetime of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Jason, age 25, buys a universal life policy (ULI) with a level death benefit of $100,000. His annual planned premium that can be changed is $445. Jason is unsure about whether or not to proceed with this Universal life policy or whether to surrender it and buy another since the premiums are complex (he also has to pay Administrative charges and Mortality costs aside from his monthly premiums) and he receives only $251 at the end of the first year. Jason wonders how ULI compares to other types of life insurance. Being too that he is only 25, he may be able to find another type of policy that can give him better run for his money. However, if Jason decides to surrender, he would have to do it now, since if he surrenders at the end of the first year, he would not receive his $251, and his surrender value is zero because of the surrender charge. The point of this essay, therefore, is to determine whether or not it would be worthwhile for Jason to hold onto his universal life policy or to relinquish it, right away, for an alternate life policy. The essay discusses factors that will impinge on Jason s decision such as premature death; amount of life insurance to own; types of life insurance; and the Limitation of Universal Life Insurance. This much is true in the 2005 film North Country , directed by Niki Caro, based on a fictionalized interpretation of the first historic class action sexual harassment lawsuit in the United States, Jenson v Eveleth Mines. The film focuses on the main character Josie, a single mom to two children, trapped by her abusive husband and the lack of decent paying jobs for women so she could support her family. Finding three plaintiffs with similar grievances proved to be difficult, since a lot of the female mine workers relied heavily on their jobs. In the end, Josie s true character shines through, attracting multiple plaintiffs to her case and a victorious win. One way this movie reflects the law in society is by illustrating the difference between law on the books and law in action. Those in favor of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which is intended to eliminate discrimination based on characteristics like sex, argued that laws protecting women from unpleasant jobs were...designed to enable men to monopolize those jobs (CITE REP MARTHA GRIFFINS), which discriminated against women who were not allowed to apply for these jobs. It wasn t until 1975, nearly eleven years after this act passed, that the Northern Minnesota Iron Mines even hired their first female miner. From that point, it seems as if the unconstitutional discrimination against female miner worsened to the point where men were still outnumbering female miners 30 to 1. Not only were the female miners outnumbered but they were put it lower level positions as opposed to their male counterparts, making the mines as Sterling and Reichman would put it, a gendered organization (CITE). • 17. The Search For Justice In Ian Mcewan s Atonement The pictures painted in one s head may seem harmless or even helpful to that single individual; however, once those pictures are introduced to the real world they can take a drastic turn. What might seem right to one could have consequences that harm those around him or her, causing chaos and destruction. Individuals are blinded by what they believe in and many fail to stop and think about how their actions will affect those closest to them. Briony Tallis is a prime example of this; she wants justice to be served for a story that is made up in her head and she does not realize the toll it will take on those around her. In Ian McEwan s Atonement, Briony s wandering imagination leads her to seek a fictional justice that causes people around her to suffer while the truth remains hidden; although she later tries to amend her wrongdoings, the damage has already been done and she is unsuccessful. During her search for justice, Briony s imagination and need to create stories strongly obscures her idea of what a rightful justice is. She [is] one of those children possessed by a desire to have the world just so (McEwan 4). Everything she experiences is automatically turned into an event from a story, thus causing her mind to focus on what would go along with the story rather than what is actually happening in the real world. Definition Of Subjectivity Score And Objectivity Score ( Os ) namely, Subjectivity Score (SS) and Objectivity Score (OS) corresponding to Kleinberg s71 hub and authority scores respectively for the WWW graph. Kleinberg not only takes into account the number of links to and from a node, but also considers the relevance of linked nodes. Accordingly, if a resource in RDF is pointed to by a resource with high SS, its OS increases. On the other hand, if a resource points to a resource with a high OS, its SS is increased. Another important feature of this method is contextualized weights added into the graph properties. For instance, RDF graphs are complex with varying importance of properties which in turn depend on the subject and object it is associated with. The study assigns distinct weights to different types of properties, based on the type of the property and the nodes it s connecting to. Each property is assigned with a subjectivity weight (weight that depends on the subject of the property) and an objectivity weight (weight that depends on the object of the property). These weights play a critical role to calculate the centrality of genes. The main fact to memory is that practice and repetition is a key asset to making the brain encode the information as memory. When the brain encodes this information it is stored, waiting to be retrieved. When we memorize something, it is stored for a certain amount of time in the brain, the more we recall this information the more familiar we become with it, making it easier to remember and recall later in life. The process of memory is still a mystery, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While yet it is the most complex process neuroscience has ever tried to define. Most theorists believe that the brain encodes information in two different types, motor skills memory and factual memory. Motor skills memory is the memorization of functions like running, walking, or eating. While factual memory is associated with the memorization of telephone number, names, places, and experiences. Some theorists believe this is the basic foundation to memories. Associated with these two types are three levels, Sensory memory, Short term memory, and Long term memory. Sensory memory is the level, which absorbs the things around us using the five main senses, sight, smell, touch, sound, and taste. This level of memory is thought to only last a matter of seconds, and only moves on to the next level if enough attention is given to the information. (Baddeley, 1976) If not enough attention is given to the information it is ignored by the brain and forgotten. (Howe, 1983) The second level of memory is the Short term memory. This level is believed to only have a capacity of 7 items, and have a duration time of no more than thirty seconds. (Bjork, 1996) When memories in the short term are used more and more it sends it to the next level, but again this is only done by practice or repetition. A way for most people to remember more things, in the short term is called Chunking. This is where someone will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The Relationship Between Plato s Regimes And Current U.s.... Cooperation and Contrast between Plato s Regimes and Current U.S. Government The U.S. government is a union of partially self governing states or regions under a central government. It is composed of three distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the federal courts. The separation of powers, which neither any branch working alone can change the U.S. constitution, is a kind of harmony that is similar to what is described in Plato s aristocratic regime, where each class minds their own jobs to keep the state functioning. Besides, in my opinion, the current U.S. government is a combination of timocracy, oligarchy and democracy, which of four regime types of Plato. According to Socrates, in Timoracy, the spiritedness, which is the love of victory and honors, will be predominant. Timoracy honours the rulers while is contemptuous of manual activities and trade; for its rulers, they will eat communally and devote themselves to gymnastics and training for war. Timoracy will be also governed in being afraid to appoint the wise as rulers, instead, selecting spirited and simpler man, men naturally more directed to war than to peace (Plato 547e). Although they will desire money, they will be niggardly of money since they cannot acquire money openly; therefore, they will love to spend others money to fulfill their aspirations. The Acute phase proteins are produced as the develop of a response caused after a variety of conditions stimulated by inflammatory cells producing chemical substances that activate specific organs to produce these proteins to reconstitute homeostasis and thus restore the injured tissue. Even though the Acute Phase Response generated is not specific for each determined disease, the measurement of these proteins in an animal may indicate the occurrence of an unhealthy condition, and a further diagnosis and prognosis of the illness could be accomplish. These are plasma proteins which are released into the blood stream, mainly produced in the liver by the hepatocytes (Cray et al., 2009) as part of the Acute Phase Response (APR), that either increase or decrease in response to the tissue damage (Jain et al., 2011; Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005). The APR is a non specific and complex systemic reaction, part of the early defense or innate immune system, which is triggered by different stimuli such as infections, trauma and inflammations in order to reconstitute homeostasis and induce healing (Cray et al., 2009; Tothova et al., 2014). As well as in humans, APP in animals are sensitive to similar triggering events in response to inflammatory stimuli. A variety of APP have been recorded, such as: fibrinogen, haptoglobin (HP), serum amyloid A (SAA); C reactive protein (CRP); ceruloplasmin (CER), major acute phase protein (MAP) and α1 acid glycoprotein (AGP) (Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005); differentiating their levels according to each species (Cray et al., 2009; Eckersall and Bell, 2010). Thus, APP have been described for their application in human medicine to diagnose and prognosticate different inflammatory and organ diseases. However; altered levels of APP monitored in animals might provide an alternative method to measure conditions or situations that may be influencing the concentration of these proteins in plasma (Tothova et al., 2014). For instance, in livestock; APP have been presented as markers of health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Bunch And Athlete As Agent Of Change The concept of athletics is based primarily on a single prospect; that those who are the best, greater than the great, will receive widespread attention and fame, and will also be marked as role models. Any individual who aspires to be something similar to these renown athletes will mindfully watch the athletes every move, and chances are, they will become emotionally attached to that person s opinion and thoughts. • 34. Stage Machinery Of Baroque Theaters Stage Machinery of Baroque Theaters The theater s combination of music and acting made them extremely popular with the whole of Western Europe. The baroque theaters, however, not only wanted to entertain their audiences but also captivate and astound them. Theaters started using special effects to amaze their audiences with the visual as well as the auditory; this made theater the most treasured art form of Europe. In order to amaze their audiences, theaters used extremely elaborate stage machinery as part of their special effects. One example of this is the deus ex machina. The deus ex machina was first used in ancient Greek and Roman drama, where it meant the timely appearance of a god to unravel and resolve the plot. The deus ex machina was named for the convention of the god s appearing in the sky, an effect achieved by means of a crane. Giovanni Legrenzi s deus ex machina in his opera Germanico sul Reno was very different from the ancient Greek crane. Legrenzi s deus ex machina was a mammoth stage machine used to make it look as if Apollo was descending from the heavens to rescue the hero while in the background other Greek gods float in the clouds. This stage machinery was monumental because nothing as elaborate and eye catching had ever been used before. Not only did the big, dramatic scenes get more elaborate and impressive, but so did the smaller, more subtle opera scenes. Trap doors were used for dramatic entrances from the underworld. The ... • 36. Communism In George Orwell s Animal Farm Author George Orwell models a farm of animals after a class system that inevitably exists in which animals fall into stronger and weaker roles and ranks based on their position. In Animal Farm by George Orwell, the author allegorically utilizes the animals on the farm to deconstruct the class systems, and show the weaknesses of a communist government. Animal Farm by George Orwell allegorically embodies communism throughout the novel with the created concept of animalism. Introduced by one of the main characters Major, the first leader of the animals, when he brought about the plot of equality. During his most influential speech, Major says, I merely repeat, remember always your duty of enmity towards Man and all his ways. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend. And remember also that in fighting against Man, we must not come to resemble him. Even when you have conquered him, do not adopt his vices. No animal must ever live in a house, or sleep in a bed, or wear clothes, or drink alcohol, or smoke tobacco, or touch money, or engage in trade. All the habits of Man are evil. And, above all, no animal must ever tyrannise over his own kind. Weak or strong, clever or simple, we are all brothers. No animal must ever kill any other animal. All animals are equal. (Orwell, 3) This monologue in the middle of chapter one, allows the reader to make a connection to communism from the beginning to allow for further understanding. Animalism and Communism share the aspect of equality amongst all citizens but in its roots, the idea is flawed in both mind and practice. As mentioned in an article by Occupy Theory, one of the greatest flaws with communism, and as seen in Animal Farm as a great obstacle, the lower class is unable to question the actions of their superiors, this amount of power tends to corrupt those who have it. The ruling class of communist nations tends to become quite greedy, since there is no way for the classes beneath them to gain insight into how their nation truly works . It is seen throughout the entire novel of Animal Farm by George Orwell that the animals are ignorant to the corruption in their government and the practices they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Examples Of Revenge Tragedy In The Duchess Of Maldy A revenge tragedy is one in which the tragedy is brought about by the pursuit and accomplishment of revenge. In other words, its blood asking for blood. The revenge tragedy was very popular during the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods, and it owned its popularity largely to the influence of Seneca, the ancient Roman dramatist. Revenge tragedy is different from other tragedies in the sense that the whole part of the tragedy will be based on revenge. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, though Macduff kills Macbeth to avenge the killing of his family, the play can t be called a revenge tragedy as Macbeth himself is responsible for his own tragic end. There is no ghost but the echo from the Duchess tomb fulfils one of the functions of the ghost of revenge tragedy. The voice warns a doomed man of his danger and, at the same time, reveals the unknown fact of its own death. The play is sometimes ridiculed by modern critics for the excessive violence and horror. The severed hands of dead Antonio, the wax figures of the Duchess children, dance of the mad men, the appearance of the tomb maker, and the executioner with all the apparatus of death bring in the elements of horror in the play. In a typical revenge play, the protagonist directs his revenge towards an unjust action, but the vengeance is followed by a series of retributions, which ultimately lead to the death of many characters. The Duchess, Anotonio, Cardinal, Ferdinand, Julia, Bosola etc are all murdered for revenge. Though it begins as a love story it ends as a dreadful tragedy.
