Dictatorship In The Movie Antz
My children love movies about animals and insects, so when I decided to watch the animated movie
Antz last night, it had guarantee to be an entertaining night for kids and I. However, after a couple of
minutes the interest of my little ones started to fade. I started to be taken into the movie as it covered
the fable of an Orwellian ant colony. The old repeated slogans, In unity is force, Nobody is
irreplaceable , and the workings of a society marked by arrogant state control. The movie Antz, its
seems to be universal, which the pattern of dictatorship. It can occur in any place, from an ant colony

In the cases in which no individual agrees with him, he does what he wants, conflicting authority. The
queen desired for the colony to be kept the same why it is now. With balance, order and stratification

diplomatic manner. She always presented her set of ideas in a respectful, politic way and in the case,
that those who contradict with her do not alter their mind, she would not execute or torture them like
the General did or walk away from them like Z. The Queen believes that everyone has a position in
society based on contrasting elements that are undisciplined like built body and because of those
elements the citizens would not be able to really accomplish themselves. She regards and feels that it
is required for social stratification to occur. Moreover, the Queen absolutely believes that whatever the
general is performing is the appropriate way. When she contradicts, she tries to use tact to figure out

Victorian Era Woman
Woman In The Victorian Era
The victorian Era lasted through 1837 1890s. The era gave woman little power and opportunities in
life while men were looked at as having the most control. Fashion choices determined a person s
social status and politics were strictly powered by men. There were many influences during the time
period that blocked off woman from being equal to others with higher status or wealth. Events
throughout the Victorian era placed restrictions on women and the lower class citizens. The way
people dressed and acted determined their class and wealth which connects to today s expectations of
how a person should look and how they treat others. Social status and employment were based off of
the wealth of a family and the success ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The women with more money and success in their lives owned more clothing with better fabric and
embellishments which created expensive garments to buy (Monet, Dolores). Wealth was a big part in
fashion and the more detailing and better fabric gave others the impression of a family s income.
Many who wore makeup, had the money to buy it and wear to make their appearance stand out from
other women that cannot afford cosmetics. Many styles were invented in this era such as hair crimping
in the 1870s. Clothing styles were dictated by propriety, and stylish garments were a sign of
respectability (Monet, Dolores). The Victorian era was big on being proper as said in the quote, many
who broke this dictation were looked at as disrespectful. In the 19th Century bonnets, bell shaped
ruffles, and ¾ sleeves were very popular. Many wore their hair long or in a bun with curls. Woman of
a higher social class were expected to demure and indolent as reflected by the restrictive dropped
shoulder lines and corsets (Monet, Dolores). Fashion choices provided the characteristics traits of how
women needed to act to be respected in that era. Corsets were worn to give girls a structured figure to
wear with clothing. The corset was very popular even though it was rather uncomfortable, many who
wore corsets were looked at as part of the high social class, being respected, and having a glorified

Descriptive Essay On A Track
All eighth graders to the SLV track called the muffley voice over the loudspeaker. As soon as I heard
this voice I shuddered with great anxiety and fear. How could I possibly race while I was shaking and
nervous? Come on, the race is about to start! shouted my friend Addy. The smell of burnt rubber tarred
my lunges and made it hard to breath, but as I looked farther from the track I saw myself standing
among the great Redwoods and Oaks. Trees that would tower over me with wisdom and age. The
sound of cheers wiped away my vision while I slowly walked toward the track. There was nothing that
could stop me from getting off this horrid track and running into a mirage of beauty. This track, this
horrible horrible track was a large part of my middle school years. I hated this track with a passion so
deep that my absolute favorite part of running the SLV cross country course was crossing the finish
line and little to nothing in between. The track was made of what seemed to be a material with a
pumas stone like texture, each of the small indents in the track told a story of the past with an
individual uniqueness about themselves. The color of the track was burned directly into my mind, the
redness of the track was like a burning hellfire ready to break loose at any moment. The redness of the
track would catch onto anything, still today the soles of my running shoes are stained with the same
red I no longer have to worry about today. The scent of the track was even worse than

Descriptive Essay On The Modern Knight
The Modern Knight Beep Beep the alarm sound in a messy room. No one would imagine how messy
the room is. A helmet bulkle on the chair, breastplate, vamplate, pauldron, all over the floor. There are
few empty beers under and on top of bed. There are no electricity applicants, sofa, or phone. If you
look at the book shelf, there is full of book, book that obsolescence, and broken on the edge. Nothing
here like a modern home. Except the man on the bed. Tommy wakes up from hangover, rub his eyes

bottles and stumble by the breastplate on the way. Tommy s day not always start confounded, but

Essay about Architecture and Insecurity
Architecture and Insecurity An Analysis of Architecture as Metapho in WG Sebald s Austerlitz
Deyan Sudjic, journalist for the New York Times, writes in his discussion of the potential Freedom
Tower meant to replace the cavernous holes that mark where the twin towers once stood:
Clearly, there is a psychological parallel between making a mark on the landscape and the exercise of
political power...both depend on the imposition of will...and among the dictatorial...there is an inherent
appeal in seeing one s worldview confirmed by reducing entire cities to the scale of a doll s house
(par. 6).

In actuality, as revealed through viewpoint of the character Austerlitz, the 19th century encapsulated
the architectural style of the capitalist era...the compulsive sense of order and the tendency towards
monumentalism evident in law courts and penal institutions, railway stations and stock exchanges,
opera houses and lunatic asylums, and the dwelling build to rectangular grid patterns for the labor
force (33). The Palace of Justice in Brussels presents a perfect example of Imperialist Architecture.
Built in the 1880s at the insistence of Brussels bourgeoisie, the Palace of Justice is the largest
accumulation of stone blocks anywhere in Europe (29). Complete with hallways that lead nowhere,
staircases that fall apart at the touch, and rooms that cannot be entered (quite literally, there are no
doors rooms without entry points are on blueprints and are simply walled off during construction), the
Palace symbolically represents the complicated nonsense of the imperial Europe. At a time when the
major powers of Europe were competing with one another for colonies, raw materials for their newly
industrialized factories, and subjects from which to collect taxes, buildings like the Palace of Justice
sprung up everywhere in an attempt to impress and terrify. Rosalyn Deutsche notes that architecture

The most pressing public policy issue affecting my community is educational disparity and inequality.
Education is the key for racial equality, yet the federal government continues to neglect the
educational discrepancies that plague various African American communities. Opportunities that are
not offered to African American students are a microcosm to the present struggles minorities endure.
The continued growth of the Black middle class since the 1960 s has serve to expand the social and
educational advancement of black students. However, recent reports show that an increased number of
minority high school graduates in urban settings suffer from inadequate school and educational
conditions. Since the 1964 Civil Rights Act that prohibited

Fiscal Policy And Monetary Policy
Nowadays, economic growth and stability is the goal that governments aim to achieve. There are two
main ways to achieve this purpose: fiscal policy and monetary policy. Monetary policy is a kind of
macroeconomic policy lead by the central bank. Expansionary monetary policies can help boost the
economy but it will cause inflation. There are two approaches to control money supply; there are price
and quantity. Price represents interest rates and quantity means amount of money quantity. After
financial crisis, U.S. interest rates already reached a low point. As a result, the only effective way to
boost the economy was by increasing money supply. In other words, the U.S. government would
printed money and bought bonds in the open market. New funds would entered the open market to
boost economy, that is called Quantitative Easing monetary. Concern the U.S. dollar was the most
powerful currency in the world, U.S. monetary policy could affect the whole world. There were three
rounds of Quantitative Easing monetary in the U.S. In QE1, the Federal Reserve (Fed) purchased 1.25
trillion dollars of residential mortgage backed securities, $ 300 billion long term Treasury bonds and $
175 billion agency debt purchases between December 2008 and March 2010.The U.S government
injected capital to major banks in order to reduce the impact of the financial crisis. The Federal

All My Sons Character Analysis
In the play All My Sons, author Arthur Miller successfully shows the challenges of emotional journeys
to the audience through the character development of businessman, Joe Keller. Miller uses Keller as a
representation of the Americans who suffered from the widespread poverty, despair, and
unemployment following the Great Depression. Joe Keller lies and cheats to achieve ultimate success
for himself and his family, yet in doing so destroys many relationships around him, particularly with
his two sons; Chris and Larry; who died during the Second World War. It is through the plays slow
build and sudden climax, that Miller is able to effectively portray his constant inner fight with himself
in coming to the realisation that his false perception of himself affects those close to him, and
ultimately drawing to a dramatic conclusion and restoration of order.
Throughout the play, the character development of Joe Keller and his materialistic values, is used by
Miller to convey to the audience, the challenges of emotional journeys. At the beginning of the play,
Keller is described by through stage directions to provide insight into Keller s character and
upbringing. A business man ... with the imprint of a machine shop worker and boss still upon him

Descriptive Essay On Cowboys Play
Don t be surprised if u see #57 flying around the field always around the ball making tackles on

better version of Hitchens (which is no knock to Hitchens because he s a good player.) Athletic and
versatile player who uses his length extremely well to avoid blocks off his body at certain angles that
way he can flow towards the ball without getting hung up on blocks. These are what you call run and

he s able to take whatever the coaching staff dishes out to him. Long arms cornerback who has speed,
athleticism, and quickness. Jones can cover athletic tight ends because of his size, and speed as well as
playing tight man coverage while being able to stay with his man. What I will be looking for during

Critical Analysis Of David Sedaris s Me Talk Pretty One Day
Critical Analysis Essay
In his essay, Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris uses humor and satire, to chronicle his time as a
student in a French language class while living in France. Sedaris creatively expresses his external and
internal struggles as a student in his later years, bringing real life examples of how he overcame his
obstacles to obtain his educational goals. Through careful research and critical analysis, this essay
effectively proves that despite adversity, self doubt, and preconceived notions of what college age is,
acquiring a higher education is possible.
Adversity comes in all shapes and sizes. For Sedaris, adversity came in the shape of a well tanned
French instructor. From day one, the French instructor left no doubt about how each person was going
to be treated. As Sedaris exclaimed, one of her first responses to a student was filled with sarcasm and
venom, Oh, really, the teacher said. How very interesting. I thought that everyone loved the mosquito,
but here, in front of all the world, you claim to detest him. How is it that we ve been blessed with
someone as unique and original as you? Tell us, please. This set the tone for the rest of the class that
day... and the days to come. Sedaris maintains throughout his writing that the humiliation did not stop
there. She methodically, one by one, would verbally castrate each student as he or she responded to
her questions. She managed to shower each student with an array of critiques. This was but a gateway
for negative treatment, The teacher licked her lips, revealing a hint of the sadist we would later come
to know... showing that his instructor relished in belittling her students. Sedaris instructor would take
every opportunity to belittle him and his peers by name calling and blatantly pointing out their
mistakes. I d head off to class, where the teacher would hold my corrected paperwork, high above her
head, shouting, Here s proof that David is an ignorant and uninspired ensigiejsokhjx , and, Were you
always this palicmkrexjs? she asked. Even a fiuscrzsws tociwegixp knows that a typewriter is
feminine, is one of the many ways Sedaris exclaimed how his French instructor misused her power
(Sedaris 2).

Abortion Is The Medical Process Of Ending A Pregnancy
An abortion is the medical process of ending a pregnancy so it does not result in the birth of a baby. It
is also sometimes known as a termination or a termination of pregnancy . Depending on how many
weeks you have been pregnant, the pregnancy is ended either by taking medication or by having a
surgical procedure. An abortion is not the same as a miscarriage, where the pregnancy ends without
medical intervention. All human life form the moment of conception and through all subsequent stages

In this paper I will concentrate on the opinion and stand point, of Christians Scholars that is for
abortions and Scholars that are against abortions. They will argue if abortions are morally acceptable.
I have also included the opinion of a pastor and how he feels what the bible say s about abortions. As I
continue with my research the answer if abortions are morally right or wrong was never agreed upon,
but by law it is legal.
The Argument in Defense of Abortion
Philosophers have attempted to justify abortion by denying that all abortions are intentional killing.
They have granted that an unborn human being has a right to live, but have then argued that this right
does not entail that the child in the womb is morally entitled to the use of the mother s body for life
support. In effect, their argument is that at least in many cases, abortion is not a case of intentionally
killing the child, but a choice not to provide the child with assistance, that is a choice to expel the
child from the womb, despite the likelihood or certainty that expulsion will result in his or her death.
(Judith Jarvis Thomas in 1971)
Famously, Thomas compared the mothers gestating a child to allowing someone the use of one s
kidneys, and others have compared gestation to donating an organ. We are not required to allow
someone to use our kidneys, or donate organs to others, even when they would die without this

Globalisation And Globalization
The world today is more globalised than ever before, with people, technologies and ideas migrating
across borders in increasingly large numbers. These movements are a powerful force for change, and
raise important questions among anthropologists about how culture, community and conflict have
changed in response to globalisation. In this essay, I argue that while the nature of globalisation has
changed over the years, it has consistently been a driver of internal conflict and societal change. Two
case studies are utilised, from India and Peru, to demonstrate how globalisation introduces new ideas
and opportunities that challenge existing power structures, identities, values and cultural norms. This,
in turn, leads to my final argument that in the process of trying to prevent change, many leaders
actually deepens existing social fractures which ultimately results in conflict and inevitable social,
political, economic and cultural transformation.
Throughout human history there has been a continuous tradition of trade and investment across
territories and cultures. European imperialism represents a significant early example of globalisation,
and the process has increased exponentially in the centuries since. Several events contributed to a
period of period of hyper globalisation since the start of the twentieth century, such the collapse of the
Soviet Union and reintegration of Soviet and East Asian nations into the global economy, the
privatisation of nationalised industries

The Idea Of An Omnipotent Essay
The idea of omnipotence has been a tricky concept for philosophers for many years. Many
philosophers have tried to define it without success. In this essay, I intend to look at, as the question
poses, whether A being is omnipotent if it has every power which it is logically possible to possess is
an adequate definition of omnipotent and then move on to look at some other ways of defining
omnipotence to see if they do any better. Omnipotent quite literally means all powerful, Omni all,
potent powerful. Most theists believe there to be one all powerful, perfect being, so the idea of an
omnipotent being is essential to most western religions. I will focus on Christianity, throughout my
essay to allow me to focus on the question without getting sucked into discussing the different
religious point of views. So the God we speak of is the traditional Christian one unless otherwise
specified. There are plenty of quotes directly from the bible that promotes God as all powerful, though
omnipotent is a later word. The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in his justice and
great righteousness, he does not oppress. (Job 37:23) The discussion of how to define God is an
essential one to theists as it can cause a lot of problems. If for example, we raise questions such as if
God is all powerful why is there suffering in the world? Before we can move on to problems with this
definition and other definitions we first need to look at them in some more depth. In

Pop Culture Vs American Popular Culture
From the beginnings of its first mentioning, back in the late 20th century, the popular culture gained
the status of a global mainstream, allowing it to have a greater impact on most of the Western
countries. Although it is often used as a term in general, almost every country in the Western culture
has its own pop culture that usually dominates only in their country. However, one type of popular
culture found ways to dominate, not only in their own territory, but also around the whole globe:
American pop culture. (McGaha, 2015) Being one of the first countries to develop pop culture, the US

previously released movies. Although many people read those reviews, most of them will still not be

in the inner circles of individuals. If the movie is being shared online, talked a lot about it or seen
advertised everywhere, no bad critic will stop the people from watching it. To sum up, American
movies released in the 21st century are a huge part of the popular culture around the world. Despite

Bee Population Decline
The oldest known bee fossil is estimated to be over 135 million years old (The Xerces Society).
Knowing this, one would certainly realize the importance of the relationship between plants and bees,
as they have depended on each other for survival for such an immense period of time. The colossal
variety of plant species are around today on behalf of the pollinators that evolved with them. However,
this knowledge has not quite convinced society of the dangers the decline in bee populations pose to
life as one knows it, as the loss of plants causes a dangerous chain reaction. At the curtains of every
winter, a dwindling number of bees are making their debut in the thriving spring. The decrease can be

meager portion would settle on a female flower (Goulson). An inefficient and hasty system, it has

bee, a humble, hard working insect. For a creature most humans prefer to avoid, the bee plays a
crucial role in the way society functions and survives. Pollination, a valuable service, is jeopardized at
the hands of humans. This is a case seen in the correlation between the use of pesticides, applying
destructive methods of industrial agriculture, and climate change. As the biologist E.O. Wilson once

different types to choose from, but which one is the right choice? For instance there are many different
ways to decide what ammo to use. Specifically the best way to decide is to choose by the size of the
animal that is to be hunted. For instance there are three different size groups that all hunters can use to
help them choose the best ammunition for their hunt.
First of all we have the class known as small game. In example, small game includes animals such as
squirrels, rabbits, birds, snakes, varmints, coyotes, ETC... While any rifle will work for taking out
small game, some larger caliber rounds provide unnecessary overkill. ... Show more content on

Secondly we have the mid sized game. Which is bigger than most varmints, but still smaller than most
deer; this is what makes antelope, mountain goats and sheep a unique challenge compared to hunting a
deer or a similar large animal. Thus using a round that ranges from a .25/06 to a .270, is preferred with
this size game. Hence it is recommended to use bullets that weigh somewhere around 100 grains.
Since they have a lower weighing lead, it causes the bullet to travel faster which would be ideal for
longer shots. Generally shots of 200 300 feet are needed when hunting antelope and mountain goats,
because of their habitat being in areas with open terrain and usually having cliffs.
Next we have the third and final class of game sizes, which would be the big game. While hunting
smaller animals may be fun, most hunters choose to step it up a bit and to hunt big game. For instance,
big game includes animals such as deer, bears, elk, boar, and more. For this type of hunting, the best
rounds to use are those ranging from a .243 Winchester up to a .338 win magnum. For instance, a
good example would be a .30 caliber which is probably one of the best choices for this area. For
instance, the heavier bullet generates more momentum that gives it a brush breaker type of effect,
which allows the bullet to continue on its path through dense woodland areas.
After all, hunting is a great sport

How Fluid Is A Substance That Has No Yields And Permanent...
1.0 Introduction
Fluid is a substance that has no yields and permanent shape when encounter the static shear stress.
One of the characteristic is, fluid is a substance that can flow. The fluid flow can be called as blustery
or laminar. To study about the flow element of fluid, dimensional analysis techniques is applied. This
method is effective because it helps to decrease the variables like density and temperature by finding
the relations among particular variables. Reynolds Number (RE) (density x velocity x length of
diameter or viscosity) is categorized as the dimensionless variables.
RE=ρVD⁄μ
The formula is commonly used to study about the type and properties of fluid flow. Based on to the

Cloud Computing Essay
The integration of mobile devices with our daily life (e.g., smart phones, smart watches, tablets, etc.)
has eliminated the location and timing restrictions on access to variety of services such as social
network, web search, data storage, and entertainment. Limitations on resources (such as battery life
and storage) and the need to global scalability of services have motivated companies to rely on cloud
computing. Cloud computing has created a new paradigm for mobile applications where computations
and storage have migrated to centralized computing platforms in the cloud. Cloud providers such as

Driven by the fundamental problems encountered due to identification and location conflation
problem in IP networks and inefficiency of TCP for intermittent links, we propose a simple yet
effective solution to provide access to advanced services for vehicular nodes with varying link
conditions. To address aforementioned issues, we leverage cloud resources to design and develop a
framework for connected vehicles. This scalable, mobility centric solution, through network
abstractions and clustering schemes with high resilience against failure, can provide seamless
connectivity, global reachability, and enhanced connection for vehicular nodes with high dynamicity
and possibly no direct association to an access point. This is followed up by the introduction of the
MobilityFirst architecture which supports seamless mobility of nodes in network layer. The named
service layer in MobilityFirst is supported by network abstractions in the form of globally available
cloud services. The distributed global name resolution service (GNRS) along with efficient vehicular
clustering provides the opportunity to enable scalable services and allow seamless connectivity. The
proposed scheme, called FastMF, assign to clusters of vehicles unique names that are independent
from location of the clusters and the interfaces. The vehicular clusters maintain tree structures that
improve performance over conventional clusters and reduce

Dynamic Elements In The Sixth Sense
The sixth sense directed by M. Night Shymalan tells a story of a boy who is able to see dead people
seeks help from a child psychologist. The film explores the supernatural from a humanized
perspective. The film portrays a story with dynamic elements which not only consists of horror, but
also love and humanity.1). The theme of this film is to have courage to face your fears. The scene that
contributes most to address the theme is where Cole stops running away from the ghost and finds what

Diversity Judicial System Analysis
In this essay I will define what is judiciary and be discussing the statement that there is a strong case
for more diverse judiciary. Not only should there be equality of opportunity for those entitled to apply
. I will discuss about the judiciary that reflect the diversity and legal profession as whole, make
reference to the role of the judiciary, their selection, and training.
Judiciary is a system that interprets and execute the laws in the state, the role of the judiciary is to
supervise the conduct of a trial, sole arbiter of legal issues, has the power to deal with civil cases and
decide the result, interpret and clarify the law, has the right to deal with criminal cases and to sum up
to the jury and to pass sentence on those who plead guilty or have been convicted.
For many centuries the House of Lords was the supreme court of appeal for the entire UK in civil
cases and for England, Wales and Northern Ireland in criminal case. There are three types of legal
system in the United Kingdom and these are executive, government and legislature; one each for
England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. There was a time where Scotland, Ireland and later
Northern Ireland retained the Acts of Union in 1707 and 1800.

Industrial Development And Population Growth
Industrial development and population growth have created a surge in global demand for energy. The
tension in the Middle East and the sharp rise in oil prices since the 1990 s had Western countries like
the US scrambling to secure alternative energy sources. While solar and wind energy is flourishing,
energy industries have pursued more aggressive means of tapping the earth s resources. Continued
mining, drilling, and especially hydraulic fracturing have been a game changer for the US. Although
industrialized energy development is making great strides in harnessing the earth s energy resources, it
is also threatening the natural environment and the quality of life in many communities.
Fracking refers to hydraulic or hydro fracturing of rock formations to stimulate and extract natural gas
and oil. The process involves drilling down through sedimentary rocks for thousands of feet, then
sideways for miles, pumping millions of gallons of water, sand, and chemicals at high pressure to
open fractures in the rocks, allowing gas and oil to flow. This relatively new technology is also being
used for resource exploration by geothermal developers. Prior to fracking, it was too expensive to
exploit shale gas , but it is now being viewed as a way for the United States (US) to become
independent from foreign oil. Fracking also brings a host of new public health and environmental
concerns; drilling chemicals and fracking fluids are highly toxic and include known carcinogens.

Foucault Sex And Power Essay
Foucault states, We must at the same time conceive of sex without the law and power without the king
(81). Foucault argues that sex and power must not be viewed as something that is only controlled by
the law but rather as multidimensional with various forms that do not manifest themselves solely in
coercion. Foucault s suggests that power is unacquired, not external but within internal structures, non
binary, intentional and non subjective, and exists simultaneously with resistance. First, Foucault
suggests that power is not a thing that an individual can or cannot have but can be exercised from
various angles in any relation. Foucault states, Power is not something that is acquired, seized, or
shared, something that one holds on to or allows to slip away (94). ... Show more content on

Similarly, like power, nature is not one thing we can point to or acquire. Individuals can point to
mountains and lakes but must recognize that nature itself is more abstract. As like power, nature
suggests a compelling relationship between individuals and the earth which indicates how it constantly
changes. Secondly, Foucault suggests that power is not external to the relationships it works upon, but
determines their internal structure, insinuating that power operates within institutions. Foucault states,
Relations of power are not in a position of exteriority with respect to other types of relationship
(economic, knowledge relationships, sexual relations), but are immanent in the latter (94). In other
words, power should be evaluated within and in relation to economics, sexuality, knowledge
relationships, etc. Power should be identified within these structures because the relationships and
connections that are formed within these structures determine and produce what power looks and feels
like. Furthermore, nature is not something that solely exists externally but as something that works
within itself. As like power, nature should be thought of as a changing process

This was the fist time the ensemble preformed this in front of an audience. Falzone informed us that
this piece was very hard to play. In this song the lute, accordion, clarinet and percussion are played.
This song has a lot of high and low pitches. The music starts off with piano dynamic than increases to
forte dynamic. I assume that the high and low pitch symbolize the sleepless night. To me the high note
symbolizes the moment when I am asleep. On the other hand the low notes are when I have to wake
up due to something sudden.
It is my first time hearing and seeing a harmonium. It is used in more spiritual pieces. A harmonium is
a keyboard instrument in which the notes are produced by air driven through metal reeds by foot
operated bellows. The concept of it reminds me of an accordion. They both work on the same
principle of blowing air to vibrate tuned reeds when keys are pressed. The accordion is played while
holding the instrument with two hands; however, the harmonium is played with it on the floor. On the

Variable pay is a type of pay for performance plan that was once used for executive employees, but is

universal and are separate from cost of living adjustment. Merit increase is typically based on an
employees performance and once determined becomes part of the base pay.
Team based rewards are based on the team outcomes or accomplishment and can include noncash

Company wide rewards are based on the entire performance of the company. This is usually in the

Rue Morgue Vs The Bone Collector
A question that is often debated is that of what makes a good story. In the 1800s, Edgar Allan Poe
created one list of rules that he think make a good detective story. These include requirements such as
clues must be present to allow the reader to solve the crime and a detective with strong intuitive skills
(Class Handout). Two mystery tales that attempted to follow these rules are Poe s own short story, The
Murders in the Rue Morgue, and a movie, The Bone Collector. According to these guidelines, The
Murders in the Rue Morgue is a better mystery story than The Bone Collector because of the detective
s strong but reasonable intuitive skills and the fair clues that are given to the reader. Both stories have
detectives present in them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Long before Poe made his rules about detective stories, Aristotle made his own requirements for a
tragedy, such as fear, morality, and spectacle. (Class Handout) Poe s story ignores many of the
requirements that Aristotle gives for a tragedy. The reader feels no fear in Poe s story because the
detective is never in any true danger. In The Bone Collector, the detective is in near constant danger
and spectacle is used to convey this fear to the watcher. The Bone Collector also has an element of
morality that is entirely missing in Poe s story. At the end of the story, the villain, Marcus Andrews,
makes it about more than just the story. He claims that because the detectives couldn t solve the clues,
[the murdered victim s] blood is on [the detectives ] hands (The Bone Collector). Instead of trying to
bring in this morality into Poe s story, Poe instead makes the story about an orangutan that doesn t
even have morals. While all this makes The Bone Collector a good tragedy, it does not make it a good
mystery, because a mystery requires specific criteria. The Murders in the Rue Morgue is a good
mystery but a poor Aristotelian tragedy because it is missing these vital

to England with two Croatans named Manteo and Wanchese, who were able to explain the
government and natural features of the region to Raleigh. Based on this knowledge, Raleigh prepared
a second journey, to be led by Sir Richard Grenville.
Greenville s convoy departed Plymouth on April 9, 1585, with five major ships: the Tiger (Grenville

shore of Portugal divided the Tiger from the rest of the convoy. The captains had an unforeseen event

the Baye of Muskito (Guayanilla Bay) on May 11.
While anticipating for the additional ships, Grenville recognized relations with the Spanish there while
concurrently engaging in some privateering in opposition to them, and also built a fort. The Elizabeth
arrived almost immediately after the fort s creation. Eventually, Grenville worn out off anticipating or

Activation Rate Law
Abstract. The objective of this work was to determine the activation energy and rate law for the
reaction between hydrochloric acid and magnesium shot. An analysis of the reaction s initial rate at
varying molarities of hydrochloric acid and masses of magnesium shot, along with the method of
initial rates was used to determine the rate law for the reaction; rate = k (SA of Mg)a [H+]b. It was
hypothesized that the reaction would be second order overall. After determining the rate law, the
activation energy was determined by changing the temperature at which the reaction took place. Using
the rate constants calculated at the two different temperatures, the activation energy was calculated. It
was found, experimentally through the method of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the biggest sources of error was letting some of the hydrogen gas escape during the reaction
because the cap of the pressure probe could not be placed on top of the flask quick enough. Not being
able to measure all of the change in pressure resulted in a lower rate law because the graph of pressure
versus time had a smaller slope. In future experiments, a system in which the reactants could be mixed
with the pressure probe already in place would yield much more accurate results because the change
in pressure would be higher which would cause the initial rate to be larger. Another source of error in
the experiment was keeping the temperature of the trial in the ice bath consistent. If the temperature of
the HCl changed from when it was measure to when the reaction took place, the activation energy
calculations would have had increased error. Because the HCl was still sitting in the ice bath, if the
actual temperature was colder that what we calculated, the activation energy would have been
lowered. For future experiments, the temperature of the HCl should be recorded as soon to when the
Mg shot is added as possible, or the experiment could be run in a temperature controlled

When I was four years old, I used to stand on top of the pews and sing my heart out. I had what my
mother still refers to as a heart for Jesus, and I loved to sing. I sang so loudly and with so much
enthusiasm that I was an embarrassment to my incredibly introverted parents and a blessing to the
adults around me.
I loved church. From belting Father Abraham to watching Gospel Bill videos to coloring pictures of
David and Goliath, it was endless fun. The Sunday School teachers seemed immortal, and I loved
talking to them, and I wanted to be just like them when I grew up. I learned to obey my parents and

The clever church does not stop at using guilt to obtain funding. It further seeks to control its members
and every aspect of their lives. The church wants carbon copies of sin free, squeaky clean, productive
citizens. Mormans are expected to spend two years of their lives volunteering as missionaries (
Oxtoby 319 ). The Catholic religion uses guilt to get its members to abstain from the use of birth
control ( Oxtoby 329 ). The Catholic Church also tries to increase church attendance by making it a
mortal sin to not attend church. Many Christian religions try to get their young people to remain
innocent and pure by teaching them that sex is a dirty and sinful act outside of marriage. Baptists are
taught to feel guilty about dancing, and Jews are forbidden from even touching ham or pork ( Oxtoby

followers, it can always be sure to achieve the desired results with a little bit of good old fashioned
guilt.
One of the things that bothers me the most about religion is that it is extremely judgmental. Although
they throw around phrases like, hate the sin, not the sinner, the actions of religious people speak

How Did Prohibition Happen In The 1920s
Prohibition The 1920 s was a crazy decade. Lots of devastating things happened and some good things

prohibiting the manufacturing, storage in barrels, bottles, and transportation of alcohol. It was the 18th
amendment that was added and it was in place from 1920 1933 before it was put out of place by the
21st amendment. The reason prohibition happened was because the leaders of the movement had
become alarmed by all the drinking Americans had been doing. They had seen that it started to
become a culture in certain areas and didn t want it to continue. Anyone over 15 could drink and
alcoholism was a problem. In the 1900 s a wave of religion and perfectionists had swept over the
United States which increased the want for temperance. Women also had a big role in prohibition and
the temperance movement. They saw alcohol as something that destroyed families and marriages. Lots
of Americans were not happy with prohibition. On January 17, 1920 prohibition went into effect.
People went crazy and started finding different ways to get their drinks. Bootlegging had started in
this time, which was making, distributing, or selling something illegally. During the prohibition era,

Cultural Differences In America
There are 196 countries around the world, Each one of those countries has their own culture. I m a
born Somalilander raised in Somaliland, coming from East Africa to the U.S was such experimental
thing to do. I have experienced a lot of culture clashes and the most important thing I ve had culture
clash about was that in the U.S respecting teachers has different meaning compare to my country. First
of all, In Somaliland teachers are well respected by the community and . Society believes that teachers
are the second parents of their students. For example, the teacher is responsible for all of their student
s life as much the parents. If a teacher sees a student doing something out of school they are supposed
to tell the student to stop what they are doing and go home. And also their parents to ... Show more

In America that is totally different from what I used to. The teachers are the most well respected in my
country because people believe that nobody would achieve their dreams without a teacher to teach
them how. Students are supposed to stand up and hold their chest when a teacher comes into the class
and wait till the teachers say sit down . Teachers can t call by their last name or first name people
believe it s disrespectful so they get the call by Macaaliin which means teacher. Students are afraid of
their teachers because of the fact teachers are allowed to beat students if they do something
unreasonable. They believe if the student has parents at home and second parents at school it would
help the students to be more successful. In my country, if you are over 14 years old you not make any
mistakes when it comes to school or the teacher or parents would beat you. Because schools believe

Understanding Temperament In Infants And Amy Hunter
The article Understanding Temperament in Infants and Toddlers is written by Lindsy T Allard and
Amy Hunter and through this article the author has tried to help early childhood caregivers and
parents to develop an understanding of temperament, so that they can better understand the individual
differences of the children and can support their holistic development.
Summary of the Article Temperament describes the way a child approaches, reacts and relate to the
world around them. It helps us identify the strengths of the child and the supports they need to succeed
in their relationships and the environments. Researchers categorized the children, who tend to be
happy, regular in their routines and don t get easily upset, as easy ... Show more content on

As an educator when I am very much informed about the temperament it would help me create and
design developmentally appropriate learning environments and practices as developmentally
appropriate learning environments and practices give children optimal time and space in which to
learn new skills and build on existing competencies. In developmentally appropriate early care
children s needs are dealt with quickly. Children are talked with and listened to respectfully. (Jean
Barbre, 2013, p. 44) e.g. using familiar objects, like a stuffed animal to ease anxiety during transitions

The Counter Of The Pet Store
Do you know what kind of bird this is? I asked the woman behind the counter of the pet store. I had
managed to hitchhike to Halifax with a stranger. I had a hard time explaining what I was wearing, and
why I was wearing it in the middle of nowhere, but he seemed fine with my pathetic excuses. Could I
get a better look at it? I passed her the bird, It looks like a tufted titmouse. What kind of food does it
eat? I asked. How did you get this bird to follow you? I don t know. It was injured, so I nursed it back
to health. That s rather strange. You must have a hint of magic, eh? I flinched when she said magic ,
she had no idea. Yeah I guess. What does it eat though? I m going to take care of it so I need to feed it.
These little guys usually like sunflower seeds. Try aisle 4. Thank you. I said, holding out my hand for
Adrian to jump into. I walked to aisle 4, which was stocked with various brands of bird seed. Most of
them were blends of different kinds of seeds, but I managed to find a bag of plain sunflower seeds.
Adrian seemed rather happy about the prospect of food. I walked up to the register, made my
purchase, and headed outside. The snow was still falling outside, but the wind was blowing harshly. I
crossed the street to get some food for myself. My bus wasn t due to show up for about two hours, so I
decided to walk around for a bit. It was a little hard to see through the flurries, but I managed to

Ordeals In The Middle Ages
Decisions were made by a jury of twelve elected copyholders, sworn. In any contested case, unless an
agreement was made outside the court, an inquisition would be held in which the jury would make a
decision and then apply a penalty in accordance with the custom of the manor. Juries were made up of
local men, who had usually lived their lives in the manor, and so were considered to have the
necessary knowledge to judge the matter concerned and to be familiar with manorial custom
(http://www.hrionline.ac.uk/conisbrough/find/manor_court.html).

Their punishments for crimes were life threating. The harsher the crime the worst the punishment. For
example, if a man committed Rape, Manslaughter or Robbery they would be hung up in a cage so

punishments and torture in their justice system. One famous type of harsh reinforcement are the
ordeals. The ordeals where sometimes used to prove innocence if the oath helps were not there. There
are many different types of ordeals. One of the many different ordeals were the ordeal by battles.
Ordeal by battle was when two nobles fought, usually until one of them died. The winner was
assumed to be innocent because they thought God would protect the innocent person. A noblemen did
not have to fight in battle. They could pick someone that was experienced to fight their battle. Another
ordeal is by cold water. The accused were thrown in water. If the accused floated they were guilty of
the crime they were accused of. If they sank they were innocence and sometimes died. Another ordeal

Literary Merit Analysis
In enjoyment reading, the sole purpose of the book is to entertain the reader. In a literary merit, the
book may have a number of purposes. It may entertain, give a message or suggestion about the current
society, or various other purposes. Books read for enjoyment are oftentimes fun to read and are
appealing to a wide audience. However, these books are read by a majority of people only one time
through because they have a simple message that is easy to understand. On the other hand, literary
merit books may not be quite enjoyable in the same way that fun books are, but they can be enjoyable
in the sense that they have a deeper meaning. Many people may read the same literary merit and can
get several different messages from it along with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
George Orwell succeeded in creating a story that gives a very bleak and possible future. Since the
future is unknown, there are a near infinite possibilities for stories, each as possible as the next. 1984
offers a different kind of look into the future. The majority of books that depict the future show a
hopeful version of the future. Even other dystopian stories give the characters hope in some way shape
or form. 1984 depicts a future with no hope and any hope that is given is immediately taken away. If
you are a man Winston, you are the last man. Your kind is extinct; we are the inheritors. Do you
understand that you are alone? You are outside history, you are nonexistent. (Orwell 270). O Brien s
words in this passage take any hope from Winston that men might prevail over the Party. This bleak
portrayal is Orwell s way of warning that the only way to stop this future is to prevent it before it
happens. For once this future comes to be, there is no stopping it.
The Name of the Wind was written in the fantasy genre. Fantasy books are very common and have
many similarities. While The Name of the Wind has many distinct elements that make it a story, it also
has many similar aspects of fantasy, such as a form of magic, tales of adventure, powerful characters,
etc. Unlike 1984, The Name of the Wind isn t very unique from the other stories in the genre and these
books are not relevant to society

Enzyme And Substrate Concentration Lab Report
BIOL 1406 Laboratory

October 3, 2015
The Effects of Enzyme and Substrate Concentrations in Various Factors
Abstract:
The entirety of this performed lab experiment is to test the effects of enzyme and substrate
concentrations in varying factors such as reaction rate, temperature, and the inhibitor hydroxlamine.
What was first tested was the effect of substrate and enzyme concentration on reaction rate in which
the effects were tested with three concentrations of both enzyme and substrate (low, medium, and
high). After properly setting up the spectrophotometer in addition to calibration and adding chemicals
into the control, enzyme and substrate, one should mix all three concentrations of low, medium, and ...

Factors include temperature, pH, inhibitors and activators all of which will be tested and observed for
in this lab. The rate of enzyme catalyzed is affected by concentrations of both substrate and enzyme.
Increasing the temperature on a reaction increases its molecular movement. The rate of an enzyme
catalyzed reaction increases with temperatures but only up until the point of optimum temperature the
highest point before the eventual decline. Below the optimum temperature, the hydrogen bonds and
hydrophobic interactions that make the enzyme its given shape can no longer be supported by its
flexibility. High temperatures cause enzymes to denature to lose its three dimensional figure. The
denaturation of enzymes plays a huge role in this lab s absorbance derived from the results. Inhibitors
also play a vital role in what affects enzyme functions done in Lab Weeks 4 and 5. When a substrate
that binds to an enzyme and the activity decreases, it is called an inhibitor. In our lab, our enzyme
inhibitor is hydroxylamine. Based on the results in a brief statement, the absorbance rate decreases.
These results will be delved into deeper analysis further in the

Migration from Sudan into the United States Essay
Migration from Sudan into the United States In recent years the US has experienced a large influx of
migration. Immigrants come from many different countries, races, religions and for many different
reasons. One group of immigrants that received national attention is a group from Sudan that has been
called The Lost Boys . The reason behind the national attention is due to the dramatic circumstances
that brought them to America. To understand these circumstances it is important to understand their
history. Sudan is the largest country in Africa. It is between two powerful cultural regions, the Islamic
north and the Christian south. Africa has more than 400 languages and dialects. There are 597

This Law seriously violated the 1972 peace agreement, forcing the south to adopt Arab culture,
language and the religion of Islam. The Nimeiry government was strengthening Sudan s ties to Egypt
and Saudi Arabia, as economic hardships drew it away from the Soviet Union and closer to western
nations. During the 1980 s, strikes, riots and shortages of goods and services had devastated the
nation. The discovery of natural resources, such as minerals and petroleum that were discovered in the
south added to the problem. Although the discovery of natural reserves should have helped Sudan s
economic situation, it became another source of conflict between the north and the south over who
would control it. The southern forces backed indirectly by the Soviet Union through Ethiopia
reorganized into the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army and rose up against the North. At this point in the
civil unrest, the war took on a religious aspect, fueled by Nimeiry s implementation of the Sharia,
which is Islamic law. In 1986 a coup forced Nimeiry out of power and he was replaced by a coalition
of northern political parties. On 1989 a northern coalition was overthrown by General Omar al Bashir
and Hasan al Tarabi, a fundamentalist leader of the National Islamic Front. Sudan was turned into an
Islamic dictatorship outlawing all other political parties except the National Islamic

Buddhism And Its Impact On Buddhism
On one hand, Buddhism was founded in northeastern India from the teachings and doctrines taught in
the VI and V centuries BC by Siddhartha Gautama, better known as Buddha or the Enlightened One.
Although originally emerged as a monastic movement within the dominant Brahmin tradition at that
time, Buddhism developed quickly in another direction and acquired characteristics. Buddha not only
rejected some important aspects of the philosophy of Hinduism, but also challenged the authority of
their leaders, did not accept the validity of Vedic scriptures and argued against the sacrificial cult
based on these texts. Moreover, Buddha opened his movement to people of all castes, openly rejecting
the idea that the spiritual affairs of the people were determined by the social class into which they are
born.
Buddhism is one of the major world religions in terms of adherents, geographical distribution, and
social and cultural influence. Its founder, Siddhartha Gautama believed in karma (cause and effect
ethics), Maya (the illusory nature of the world), and Samsara (the cycle of reincarnation) among other
things. Buddhists believe that the ultimate goal in life is to achieve enlightenment as they perceive
their existence.
So Buddhism seeks liberation from suffering, the goal is Nirvana. Once reached, suffering ceases to
affect the practitioner. It is important to understand that Nirvana is not heaven, or that the Buddha as
Arahant or referred to those who have reached full peace are

Outsider In To Kill A Mockingbird
Discuss the theme of an oustider in Silas Marner and To Kill a
Mockingbird.
What is an outsider? The dictionary defines that an outsider is a person excluded from a group. The
outsider plays an important part in both novels. In Silas Marner by George Eliot Silas is the main
outsider, however in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee even though
Boo is the obvious outsider there are many others.
Silas Marner is written by George Eliot, which is the pen name of
Mary Ann Evans. She had to change her name to a man s name to avoid facing prejudice, as it was not
seen proper for a lady to write books, this also makes her an outsider. Due to this she could be more
sympathetic with outsiders, this could have influenced her to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To Kill a Mockingbird is set in a town called Maycomb in Alabama. It is written in the 1950 s but is
set in 1933 1935. At the time it was set and at the time it was written there was a lot of prejudice
against black people in America, especially in the southern states.
The 1930 s were also the time of the depression, which meant that many people had gone bankrupt.
The Jim Crow laws were also still in motion, which created a segregation of white and black people.
In the 1950 s civil rights were important in the U.S.A as black people were fighting for them. It was
also the time when the majority of white males were members or sympathisers of the Ku Klux Klan.
This adds to the theme of an outsider in this book, because one of the outsiders Tom Robinson is the
victim of racial prejudice.
Both novels are set thirty years before they are written and both are a hundred years apart. This shows
that prejudice is constantly around.
In the town of Maycomb hierarchy makes outsiders of people. The Finchs are regarded as southern
aristocracy but later become outsiders because Atticus defends Tom Robinson. The Radleys are
outsiders because they are so conspicuous and secretive. The Cunninghams and the
Ewells have both been bankrupt due to the depression. However the
Cunninghams faced it bravely where as the Ewells became dishonest and depraved. They are the white
trash of the society, which makes them
outsiders.

Dictatorship In The Movie Antz My children love movies about animals and insects, so when I decided to watch the animated movie Antz last night, it had guarantee to be an entertaining night for kids and I. However, after a couple of minutes the interest of my little ones started to fade. I started to be taken into the movie as it covered the fable of an Orwellian ant colony. The old repeated slogans, In unity is force, Nobody is irreplaceable , and the workings of a society marked by arrogant state control. The movie Antz, its seems to be universal, which the pattern of dictatorship. It can occur in any place, from an ant colony to the Soviet Union. She always presented her set of ideas in a respectful, politic way and in the case, that those who contradict with her do not alter their mind, she would not execute or torture them like the General did or walk away from them like Z. The Queen believes that everyone has a position in society based on contrasting elements that are undisciplined like built body and because of those elements the citizens would not be able to really accomplish themselves. • 3. Victorian Era Woman Woman In The Victorian Era The victorian Era lasted through 1837 1890s. The era gave woman little power and opportunities in life while men were looked at as having the most control. Fashion choices determined a person s social status and politics were strictly powered by men. There were many influences during the time period that blocked off woman from being equal to others with higher status or wealth. Events throughout the Victorian era placed restrictions on women and the lower class citizens. The way people dressed and acted determined their class and wealth which connects to today s expectations of how a person should look and how they treat others. The women with more money and success in their lives owned more clothing with better fabric and embellishments which created expensive garments to buy (Monet, Dolores). Wealth was a big part in fashion and the more detailing and better fabric gave others the impression of a family s income. Many who wore makeup, had the money to buy it and wear to make their appearance stand out from other women that cannot afford cosmetics. Many styles were invented in this era such as hair crimping in the 1870s. Clothing styles were dictated by propriety, and stylish garments were a sign of respectability (Monet, Dolores). The Victorian era was big on being proper as said in the quote, many who broke this dictation were looked at as disrespectful. In the 19th Century bonnets, bell shaped ruffles, and ¾ sleeves were very popular. Many wore their hair long or in a bun with curls. Woman of a higher social class were expected to demure and indolent as reflected by the restrictive dropped shoulder lines and corsets (Monet, Dolores). • 4. Descriptive Essay On A Track All eighth graders to the SLV track called the muffley voice over the loudspeaker. As soon as I heard this voice I shuddered with great anxiety and fear. How could I possibly race while I was shaking and nervous? Come on, the race is about to start! shouted my friend Addy. The smell of burnt rubber tarred my lunges and made it hard to breath, but as I looked farther from the track I saw myself standing among the great Redwoods and Oaks. Trees that would tower over me with wisdom and age. The sound of cheers wiped away my vision while I slowly walked toward the track. There was nothing that could stop me from getting off this horrid track and running into a mirage of beauty. This track, this horrible horrible track was a large part of my middle school years. I hated this track with a passion so deep that my absolute favorite part of running the SLV cross country course was crossing the finish line and little to nothing in between. The track was made of what seemed to be a material with a pumas stone like texture, each of the small indents in the track told a story of the past with an individual uniqueness about themselves. The color of the track was burned directly into my mind, the redness of the track was like a burning hellfire ready to break loose at any moment. The redness of the track would catch onto anything, still today the soles of my running shoes are stained with the same red I no longer have to worry about today. The scent of the track was even worse than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In actuality, as revealed through viewpoint of the character Austerlitz, the 19th century encapsulated the architectural style of the capitalist era...the compulsive sense of order and the tendency towards monumentalism evident in law courts and penal institutions, railway stations and stock exchanges, opera houses and lunatic asylums, and the dwelling build to rectangular grid patterns for the labor force (33). The Palace of Justice in Brussels presents a perfect example of Imperialist Architecture. Built in the 1880s at the insistence of Brussels bourgeoisie, the Palace of Justice is the largest accumulation of stone blocks anywhere in Europe (29). Complete with hallways that lead nowhere, staircases that fall apart at the touch, and rooms that cannot be entered (quite literally, there are no doors rooms without entry points are on blueprints and are simply walled off during construction), the Palace symbolically represents the complicated nonsense of the imperial Europe. At a time when the major powers of Europe were competing with one another for colonies, raw materials for their newly industrialized factories, and subjects from which to collect taxes, buildings like the Palace of Justice sprung up everywhere in an attempt to impress and terrify. Education is the key for racial equality, yet the federal government continues to neglect the educational discrepancies that plague various African American communities. The continued growth of the Black middle class since the 1960 s has serve to expand the social and educational advancement of black students. • 8. Fiscal Policy And Monetary Policy Nowadays, economic growth and stability is the goal that governments aim to achieve. There are two main ways to achieve this purpose: fiscal policy and monetary policy. Monetary policy is a kind of macroeconomic policy lead by the central bank. Expansionary monetary policies can help boost the economy but it will cause inflation. There are two approaches to control money supply; there are price and quantity. Price represents interest rates and quantity means amount of money quantity. After financial crisis, U.S. interest rates already reached a low point. As a result, the only effective way to boost the economy was by increasing money supply. In other words, the U.S. government would printed money and bought bonds in the open market. • 9. All My Sons Character Analysis In the play All My Sons, author Arthur Miller successfully shows the challenges of emotional journeys to the audience through the character development of businessman, Joe Keller. Miller uses Keller as a representation of the Americans who suffered from the widespread poverty, despair, and unemployment following the Great Depression. Joe Keller lies and cheats to achieve ultimate success for himself and his family, yet in doing so destroys many relationships around him, particularly with his two sons; Chris and Larry; who died during the Second World War. It is through the plays slow build and sudden climax, that Miller is able to effectively portray his constant inner fight with himself in coming to the realisation that his false perception of himself affects those close to him, and ultimately drawing to a dramatic conclusion and restoration of order. Throughout the play, the character development of Joe Keller and his materialistic values, is used by Miller to convey to the audience, the challenges of emotional journeys. • 12. Critical Analysis Of David Sedaris s Me Talk Pretty One Day Critical Analysis Essay In his essay, Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris uses humor and satire, to chronicle his time as a student in a French language class while living in France. Sedaris creatively expresses his external and internal struggles as a student in his later years, bringing real life examples of how he overcame his obstacles to obtain his educational goals. Through careful research and critical analysis, this essay effectively proves that despite adversity, self doubt, and preconceived notions of what college age is, acquiring a higher education is possible. Adversity comes in all shapes and sizes. For Sedaris, adversity came in the shape of a well tanned French instructor. From day one, the French instructor left no doubt about how each person was going to be treated. As Sedaris exclaimed, one of her first responses to a student was filled with sarcasm and venom, Oh, really, the teacher said. How very interesting. I thought that everyone loved the mosquito, but here, in front of all the world, you claim to detest him. How is it that we ve been blessed with someone as unique and original as you? Tell us, please. This set the tone for the rest of the class that day... and the days to come. Sedaris maintains throughout his writing that the humiliation did not stop there. She methodically, one by one, would verbally castrate each student as he or she responded to her questions. She managed to shower each student with an array of critiques. This was but a gateway for negative treatment, The teacher licked her lips, revealing a hint of the sadist we would later come to know... showing that his instructor relished in belittling her students. Sedaris instructor would take every opportunity to belittle him and his peers by name calling and blatantly pointing out their mistakes. I d head off to class, where the teacher would hold my corrected paperwork, high above her head, shouting, Here s proof that David is an ignorant and uninspired ensigiejsokhjx , and, Were you always this palicmkrexjs? she asked. Even a fiuscrzsws tociwegixp knows that a typewriter is feminine, is one of the many ways Sedaris exclaimed how his French instructor misused her power (Sedaris 2). ... It is also sometimes known as a termination or a termination of pregnancy . Depending on how many weeks you have been pregnant, the pregnancy is ended either by taking medication or by having a surgical procedure. An abortion is not the same as a miscarriage, where the pregnancy ends without medical intervention. All human life form the moment of conception and through all subsequent stages is sacred, because human life is created in the image and likeness of God. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this paper I will concentrate on the opinion and stand point, of Christians Scholars that is for abortions and Scholars that are against abortions. They will argue if abortions are morally acceptable. I have also included the opinion of a pastor and how he feels what the bible say s about abortions. As I continue with my research the answer if abortions are morally right or wrong was never agreed upon, but by law it is legal. The Argument in Defense of Abortion Philosophers have attempted to justify abortion by denying that all abortions are intentional killing. They have granted that an unborn human being has a right to live, but have then argued that this right does not entail that the child in the womb is morally entitled to the use of the mother s body for life support. In effect, their argument is that at least in many cases, abortion is not a case of intentionally killing the child, but a choice not to provide the child with assistance, that is a choice to expel the child from the womb, despite the likelihood or certainty that expulsion will result in his or her death. • 15. Globalisation And Globalization The world today is more globalised than ever before, with people, technologies and ideas migrating across borders in increasingly large numbers. These movements are a powerful force for change, and raise important questions among anthropologists about how culture, community and conflict have changed in response to globalisation. In this essay, I argue that while the nature of globalisation has changed over the years, it has consistently been a driver of internal conflict and societal change. Two case studies are utilised, from India and Peru, to demonstrate how globalisation introduces new ideas and opportunities that challenge existing power structures, identities, values and cultural norms. This, in turn, leads to my final argument that in the process of trying to prevent change, many leaders actually deepens existing social fractures which ultimately results in conflict and inevitable social, political, economic and cultural transformation. Throughout human history there has been a continuous tradition of trade and investment across territories and cultures. European imperialism represents a significant early example of globalisation, and the process has increased exponentially in the centuries since. Several events contributed to a period of period of hyper globalisation since the start of the twentieth century, such the collapse of the Soviet Union and reintegration of Soviet and East Asian nations into the global economy, the privatisation of nationalised industries ... • 16. The Idea Of An Omnipotent Essay The idea of omnipotence has been a tricky concept for philosophers for many years. Many philosophers have tried to define it without success. In this essay, I intend to look at, as the question poses, whether A being is omnipotent if it has every power which it is logically possible to possess is an adequate definition of omnipotent and then move on to look at some other ways of defining omnipotence to see if they do any better. Omnipotent quite literally means all powerful, Omni all, potent powerful. Most theists believe there to be one all powerful, perfect being, so the idea of an omnipotent being is essential to most western religions. I will focus on Christianity, throughout my essay to allow me to focus on the question without getting sucked into discussing the different religious point of views. So the God we speak of is the traditional Christian one unless otherwise specified. There are plenty of quotes directly from the bible that promotes God as all powerful, though omnipotent is a later word. The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress. (Job 37:23) The discussion of how to define God is an essential one to theists as it can cause a lot of problems. If for example, we raise questions such as if God is all powerful why is there suffering in the world? Before we can move on to problems with this definition and other definitions we first need to look at them in some more depth. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, one type of popular culture found ways to dominate, not only in their own territory, but also around the whole globe: American pop culture. The colossal variety of plant species are around today on behalf of the pollinators that evolved with them. However, this knowledge has not quite convinced society of the dangers the decline in bee populations pose to life as one knows it, as the loss of plants causes a dangerous chain reaction. This is a case seen in the correlation between the use of pesticides, applying destructive methods of industrial agriculture, and climate change. As the biologist E.O. In fact there are several different types to choose from, but which one is the right choice? For instance there are many different ways to decide what ammo to use. Specifically the best way to decide is to choose by the size of the animal that is to be hunted. For instance there are three different size groups that all hunters can use to help them choose the best ammunition for their hunt. First of all we have the class known as small game. In example, small game includes animals such as squirrels, rabbits, birds, snakes, varmints, coyotes, ETC... While any rifle will work for taking out small game, some larger caliber rounds provide unnecessary overkill. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly we have the mid sized game. Which is bigger than most varmints, but still smaller than most deer; this is what makes antelope, mountain goats and sheep a unique challenge compared to hunting a deer or a similar large animal. Thus using a round that ranges from a .25/06 to a .270, is preferred with this size game. Hence it is recommended to use bullets that weigh somewhere around 100 grains. Since they have a lower weighing lead, it causes the bullet to travel faster which would be ideal for longer shots. Generally shots of 200 300 feet are needed when hunting antelope and mountain goats, because of their habitat being in areas with open terrain and usually having cliffs. Next we have the third and final class of game sizes, which would be the big game. While hunting smaller animals may be fun, most hunters choose to step it up a bit and to hunt big game. For instance, big game includes animals such as deer, bears, elk, boar, and more. For this type of hunting, the best rounds to use are those ranging from a .243 Winchester up to a .338 win magnum. For instance, a good example would be a .30 caliber which is probably one of the best choices for this area. For instance, the heavier bullet generates more momentum that gives it a brush breaker type of effect, which allows the bullet to continue on its path through dense woodland areas. The tension in the Middle East and the sharp rise in oil prices since the 1990 s had Western countries like the US scrambling to secure alternative energy sources. While solar and wind energy is flourishing, energy industries have pursued more aggressive means of tapping the earth s resources. Continued mining, drilling, and especially hydraulic fracturing have been a game changer for the US. Although industrialized energy development is making great strides in harnessing the earth s energy resources, it is also threatening the natural environment and the quality of life in many communities. Fracking refers to hydraulic or hydro fracturing of rock formations to stimulate and extract natural gas and oil. The process involves drilling down through sedimentary rocks for thousands of feet, then sideways for miles, pumping millions of gallons of water, sand, and chemicals at high pressure to open fractures in the rocks, allowing gas and oil to flow. This relatively new technology is also being used for resource exploration by geothermal developers. Prior to fracking, it was too expensive to exploit shale gas , but it is now being viewed as a way for the United States (US) to become independent from foreign oil. Fracking also brings a host of new public health and environmental concerns; drilling chemicals and fracking fluids are highly toxic and include known carcinogens. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Two mystery tales that attempted to follow these rules are Poe s own short story, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and a movie, The Bone Collector. He claims that because the detectives couldn t solve the clues, [the murdered victim s] blood is on [the detectives ] hands (The Bone Collector). Instead of trying to bring in this morality into Poe s story, Poe instead makes the story about an orangutan that doesn t even have morals. While all this makes The Bone Collector a good tragedy, it does not make it a good mystery, because a mystery requires specific criteria. In 1584, explorers Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe were the first Europeans to set view the island. They were sent to that particular region by Sir Walter Raleigh with the assignment of exploring the extensive sounds and estuaries in hunt of an ideal location for settlement. Barlowe wrote bright information of Roanoke Island, and when the explorers returned to England a year afterward with two Natives, Manteo and Wanchese, all of London was abuzz with chat of the New World s wonders.Queen Elizabeth, impressed with the results of the reconnaissance voyage, knighted Raleigh as a reward. On April 27, 1584, Raleigh dispatched a journey led by Phillip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to search for the Eastern coast of North America. They arrived on Roanoke Island on July 4, and almost immediately recognized relations with the local citizens, the Sectoans and Croatans. Barlowe returned to England with two Croatans named Manteo and Wanchese, who were able to explain the government and natural features of the region to Raleigh. Based on this knowledge, Raleigh prepared a second journey, to be led by Sir Richard Grenville. Greenville s convoy departed Plymouth on April 9, 1585, with five major ships: the Tiger (Grenville s), the Roebuck, the Red Lion, the Elizabeth, and the Dorothy. Consequently, a harsh rainstorm off the shore of Portugal divided the Tiger from the rest of the convoy. The captains had an unforeseen event plan if they were divided, which was to get together up again in Puerto Rico, and the Tiger reached in the Baye of Muskito (Guayanilla Bay) on May 11. While anticipating for the additional ships, Grenville recognized relations with the Spanish there while concurrently engaging in some privateering in opposition to them, and also built a fort. The Elizabeth arrived almost immediately after the fort s creation. Eventually, Grenville worn out off anticipating or the remaining ships, and departed on June 7. The fort was discarded, and its site remains unknown. When the Tiger sailed through Ocracoke Inlet on June 26, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An analysis of the reaction s initial rate at varying molarities of hydrochloric acid and masses of magnesium shot, along with the method of initial rates was used to determine the rate law for the reaction; rate = k (SA of Mg)a [H+]b. It was hypothesized that the reaction would be second order overall. After determining the rate law, the activation energy was determined by changing the temperature at which the reaction took place. Using the rate constants calculated at the two different temperatures, the activation energy was calculated. It was found, experimentally through the method of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the biggest sources of error was letting some of the hydrogen gas escape during the reaction because the cap of the pressure probe could not be placed on top of the flask quick enough. Not being able to measure all of the change in pressure resulted in a lower rate law because the graph of pressure versus time had a smaller slope. In future experiments, a system in which the reactants could be mixed with the pressure probe already in place would yield much more accurate results because the change in pressure would be higher which would cause the initial rate to be larger. Another source of error in the experiment was keeping the temperature of the trial in the ice bath consistent. If the temperature of the HCl changed from when it was measure to when the reaction took place, the activation energy calculations would have had increased error. Because the HCl was still sitting in the ice bath, if the actual temperature was colder that what we calculated, the activation energy would have been lowered. For future experiments, the temperature of the HCl should be recorded as soon to when the Mg shot is added as possible, or the experiment could be run in a temperature controlled ... The Catholic religion uses guilt to get its members to abstain from the use of birth control ( Oxtoby 329 ). The Catholic Church also tries to increase church attendance by making it a mortal sin to not attend church. Many Christian religions try to get their young people to remain innocent and pure by teaching them that sex is a dirty and sinful act outside of marriage. Whether the church needs money, mass numbers of people, or specific behaviors from its followers, it can always be sure to achieve the desired results with a little bit of good old fashioned guilt. One of the things that bothers me the most about religion is that it is extremely judgmental. During the 1920 s, there was a new amendment created called prohibition the act of prohibiting the manufacturing, storage in barrels, bottles, and transportation of alcohol. It was the 18th amendment that was added and it was in place from 1920 1933 before it was put out of place by the 21st amendment.
