Global Effects of Ozone Depletion Essay
Global Effects of Ozone Depletion
Ozone depletion in the earth s atmosphere is under constant scrutiny by the American press and
people. Perhaps the concern is warranted; the ozone layer protects life on earth by absorbing 97 99%
of the damaging ultraviolet radiation from the sun (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 2006).
Over the past twenty years, the stratospheric ozone has decreased approximately 3% per decade.
Possible concerns have been raised about loss of polar caps, DNA damage, increased human health
risks, and environmental process disturbance. Emerging research has helped clarify effects of global
ozone depletion. Three areas that have received recent scientific attention include UV effects upon

al., 2004). However, approximately 90% of chloroform comes from natural sources. Therefore, if
increased UV radiation has a similar effect on other natural chloroform emitting sources, the increase
in organohalogens could be much more significant. If such an increase were significant, it would
create a vicious circle increased UV radiation causes stress to living organisms; increased stress causes
a higher production of organohalogens; organohalogens breakdown stratospheric ozone; lower levels
of ozone increase earth s surface radiation.
Increased surface radiation has also been linked indirectly to increased decomposition time. Barley
that has been exposed to increased levels of UV B radiation has been shown to have increased levels
of lignin (a binding agent) and cellulose (Pancotto, et. al., 2005). Microbes are unable to breakdown
lignin and cellulose as quickly as soluble carbohydrates. As a result, decomposition takes longer.
Scientists speculated that barley litter exposed to higher levels of UV radiation would decompose
quicker than barley exposed to ambient levels of radiation (regardless of exposure to UV radiation
during growth). However, a group of American and Argentine scientists found the slight decrease in
decomposition time to be insignificant compared to the overall increase due to higher levels of
cellulose and lignin. It is important to note, however, that the

How The Apollonian Contrasts With The Dionysian
Nietzsche has a different outlook on the world. In World of Ideas, by Lee A. Jacobus, it says;
Nietzsche s task was to explain the polarities, their form of expression, and their effect. (pg. 643)
What is the they you ask? Well, Jacobus says; The Apollonian contrasts with the Dionysian, the Greek
with the barbarian, the dream with the illusion. (pg. 643) There are many more examples, but I will
spare you the long list. An Apollonian is a relation to the rational, ordered, and self disciplined aspects
of human nature. A Dionysian is a relation to the sensual, spontaneous, and emotional aspects of
human nature. This evaluation will compare how the two interpret today s music, cinematics, and art.
First, Apollonians and Dionysians hear music in different ways. Apollonians are classical in the
department. Not exactly the classical genre of music, just older music. See, they don t like all these

An Apollonian would rather watch a play; a live theatre performance. They find it much more awe
inspiring if they see the performance all in one take. They want to see the actors make the play a
perfection, waiting to see if a mistake is made and if the actors can recover. A Dionysian,on the other
hand, likes movies more. They don t care how many outtakes it had, they want more. The symbolism,
the story, the computer generated images, how a script can be brought to life. They don t care how,
they care how soon. Third, and final, there is a difference in how Apollonians and Dionysians perceive
art. Now, art is hard to understand, and can take many shapes and forms. Apollonians like the simpler
art, the ones that are easy to understand and look at. If you were to give them a single picture that
looked concave and convex at the same time, they wouldn t appreciate that to much. That is more of a
Dionysian outlook. They want the pictures that make your mind think, make you question every

Teaching 10th Grade Analysis
The thirteen year old brain is not over the hill. It is just discovering the higher peaks of thinking.
(Peter Lorain) I couldn t agree with Lorain more. The reason why I love teaching 10th grade is
because I can see first hand the transition my students undergo from children, to young adults. Lorain
states that during the adolescent years, children begin developing skills in deductive reasoning,
problem solving, and generalizing (Lorain). Not only are students interpreting information on a deeper
level, but during this time they are also learning to control their impulses. What I have observed in the
past 3 years is this trend where students enter the 10th grade super hyper, fidgeting in their seat,
constantly giggling, summarizing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the year is over, I cannot even recognize my students anymore because they have now become
confident when they speak; they are not only asking questions, but they are looking at each other for
the answers (instead of it coming solely me); they are making insightful observations and analysis on
the texts; and classroom management is no longer an issue. I would like to take full credit and say that
most of this is due to providing students with predictable and safe environments so that they can take
risks, explore, and grow , but I know that the child s development also plays a larger role. When a
teacher can incorporate routines in their classroom and foster a positive and welcoming learning
environment, they are ultimately capitalizing on the students developmental

The Development Of South Korea
Survival for the fittest has been the slogan that is used in describing this world. Modernization
theories, as well as growth theories, have become prominent. Dependency theory is what has seen
some countries develop especially the South Korea. As other countries grow, some continue to
become poor. On the other hand, many countries wonder why South Korea grew despite being the
center stage of the war. South Korea was faced with the division of territory, Japan s colonial
occupation, Korean War and U.S military force s occupation. Existence of the mentioned factors could
not promote development of any country. South Korea being a developing country, dedicated itself to
develop after the war, majorly through industrialization.
Park Chung Hee also contributed to the economic growth of South Korea by implementing unique
leadership strategies. South Korea s Human Development Index is at 15, and it is part of the
Organization for the Economic Co operation and Development membership. These developments in
South Korea whereas a result of not concentrating in the past. Rather, focuses on how to improve the
present and to make the future better. This paper, therefore, explains what happened in 1960s to 1990s
under Chun Doo Hwan (1980 1988) and the Par Chung Hee (1961 1979) rulings. They set the
foundation for the fame South Korea of the present. The strategies and policies that were championed

The Lady With The Dog Chekov
The Lady with the Dog by Anton Chekov is the story of womanizer Dmitri Dmitritch Gurov.
Throughout the story Dmitri shows he has little respect for women and find them to be easy to fool.
Dmitri is a married man who has lost faith in his marriage. Where does this fall into literary theory?
This story seems to fit well into the feminism literacy theory by following a man who disrespects and
looks down on women. The protagonist, Dmitri Dmitritch Gurov, is a womanizer who no longer
believes in his marriage. The Lady with the Dog looked at from the point of the feminism theory has
various examples of women being looked at as inferior and clueless in comparison to men, however it
also highlights how men can be ignorant to how they really feel about ... Show more content on

Dmitri viewed himself as irresistible and believed that he could have any women he wanted. So, when
he has the finds a woman that he wants to seduce, he thinks it is a guarantee that he will have his way
with the woman. However, Dmitri is not as sly as he thinks himself to be. Dmitri found Anna
Sergeyvna to be a prime target but got into more than he bargained for. Because, once he joined Anna
Sergeyvna back in her hotel room, she began to realize she was making a mistake. Back in the time
frame the story took place, in the 1800s, it was frowned upon to get a divorce and even worse to
commit adultery. Anna knew that what she had gotten herself into was bad for her. So, she began
crying and sobbing, Dmitri reacts to her sadness, He was irritated by the naïve tone, by this remorse,
so unexpected and inopportune; but for the tears in her eyes, he thought she was jesting or playing a
part (Chekov, 294). Dmitri was enamored by Anna s internal struggle to commit adultery and seems to
be disappointed in her. He himself did not feel it was a big deal to cheat on his spouse and felt that she
was overreacting to the situation. Dmitri sees Anna as a young and ignorant girl who does not have
enough life experience to say no to a man like him. Due to her age, Dmitri thought that she acted this
way towards him because she was simple minded. Despite Anna breaks

The Peral by John Steinbeck
If a homeless man were to win a $1,000,000 lottery, how would he handle the circumstance? In The
Pearl, John Steinbeck depicts the story of Kino, a destitute Mexican Indian male who devotes his life
towards his wife and newborn son. He discovers a great pearl that seems to have the potential to
change his life for the better; however, Steinbeck shows how Kino s discovery of a great fortune can
lead to disaster. The pearl installs greed in Kino as he desires to improve his social status, and overall
creates an evil corruption that destroys his family. The pearl has three primary functions. It causes man
to become more impulsively animalistic, shows society s corruption; greediness; and jealousy, and
provides a false hope, an illusion that the pearl is infinitely valued, but in reality has no value at all.
The discovery of the great pearl influences Kino to be more animalistic. ...Kino s fist closed over the
pearl and his emotion broke over him. He put back his head and howled. His eyes rolled up and he
screamed and his body was rigid (Steinbeck 11). Kino s excitement of this discovery leads to his an
impulsive wolf like behavior, howling, which shows the power of the pearl in triggering man s
impulsiveness. The pearl also installs paranoia in Kino, as he fears others stealing his prized
possession. ...a wild fear surged in Kino s breast, and on the fear came rage...he sprang like an angry
cat, leaped striking and spitting for the dark thing he knew was in the corner of

Definition On Extracurricular Activities
Definition on Extracurricular Activities Extracurricular activities allow students to pursue interests
outside of a standardized context (Strate,1996). Extracurricular activities are the activities that caters
the students voluntary involvement that is situated at the external realm of the academic curriculum of
a school or in a university. These activities encourage students to permissively expose themselves with
others of the same age with a purpose. However, extracurricular activities are offered to all students
but volunteer activities are not always extracurricular activities. Every activity is a students initiative
in order to help others such as feeding programs, tutorials, etc. On the other hand, extracurricular
activities are not only made for the purpose of allowing the students to do social outreach but for them
to interact with others and build public relationship that would help them along during their stay in the
university. This present study aims to investigate if these extracurricular activities cannot only be
defined by the following involvements, but it could serve as an outlet for students from academics. ...

John Gotti Essay
Background
John Joseph Gotti, Jr. was born on October 27, 1940. He was the fifth child of eleven children. His
parents were John J. Gotti Sr. and Fannie Gotti. John Gotti s father was believed to be a hardworking
immigrant from the Neapolitan section of Italy, though Gotti would later describe his father as a New
Jersey native who has never set foot in Italy and never worked a day in his life to provide for the
family. The Gotti family grew up in the slums of the South Bronx. Although Gotti denies it, his father
worked hard to move them out of the poor neighborhoods. John J. Gotti Sr., after much perseverance,
later moved his family to the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood. However, after living in Sheepshead Bay

Gotti became the leader of the gang, but unlike other gangs, was not concerned about territory. His
gang was mostly into higher levels of criminality that dealt with fencing stolen goods, stealing
automobiles and rolled drunks. While a member of the Fulton Rockaway Boys, he was arrested five
times however all his charges were reduced to probationary sentences. Later in life, Gotti marries
Victoria DiGorgio. However marriage does not slow down John Gotti Jr. On a yearly basis, John Gotti
committed crimes and was convicted of them. Several of the crimes ranged from grand larceny,
hijacking, and murder. Though Gotti was convicted for several of the crimes, he proved to be a model
inmate and was released on good behavior. In 1980, John Gotti tragically loses his son Frank when his
bike was hit by their neighbors car. Later, the neighbor was forced to move because of the constant
retaliation from the Gotti family and friends.
The subject of gangs and mobs has always held my interest. In history, Gotti is as legendary as
Capone. Gotti, who was infamous in the 1980 s by becoming the boss of the Gambino s, truly
epitomized the characteristic 1920 s mobster but with a few unique twists. He captured the public s
interest, and has played a large role in maintaining it s fascination with mobster history. He was the

The Field And The Forensic Scientist s Work For Real Life
The show NCIS has increased in popularity over the years and has become the most watched and
popular crime show that currently is on television. NCIS stands for Naval Criminal Investigative
Service. These teams focus and work on crimes that are related to the Navy or Marine Corps
regardless of the crime s nature. The show follows a fictional Naval Criminal Investigative Service
Major Case Response Team based in Washington, D.C. This specific team is underneath the leadership
of Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Solving a case is no easy feat and every case requires the whole entire
team. Gibb s team includes three field agents, a medical examiner, and a forensic scientist. The
purpose of this paper is to delve into any episode and critique the different aspects of the case. I will
be comparing the field and the forensic scientist s work to real life. In most cases, these particular
shows dramatized real life so I will also explain how things would normally be done. I chose to focus
on a television show because as I stated before, shows tend to glamorize the work that gets put into a
criminal investigation, especially the work of forensic scientists. The episode that I chose to focus on
was from Season 6. It was the fifteenth episode called Deliverance. Metro Police Department in
Washington D.C. responded to a call that stated that he or she heard shots being fired in Liberty
Heights which is a bad neighborhood. This 911 call was made in conjunction with a man trying to sell

History Of Vaccines
Introduction to Vaccinations
History of Vaccinations
Laying the foundation for modern vaccinology in 1796, Edward Jenner observed a milkmaid with the
cowpox infection appeared to be immune to the outbreak of smallpox. By inoculating an eight year
old boy with the pus from an infected milkmaid, and exposing smallpox material to the boy weeks
later, Jenner demonstrated smallpox immunization; as the boy never fell ill (Stern, 2005).
That the cow pox protects the human constitution from the infection of smallpox Edward Jenner
Jenner tested his hypothesis on 23 additional people, and with success, Jenner s discovery began the
development of vaccines. Scientists recognised by surviving an infection with a less virulent form of

An immune compromised patient, such as those taking immune suppressive agents (organ donor,
leukemia), cannot be given this vaccine as it produces the actual disease (Clem, 2011).
Hence, another disadvantage of live microbes is that they have the ability to mutate and regain
pathogenic factors. This was known to occur with live (oral) polio vaccine, where the microbe
reverted into a form that paralysed the vaccinated host (1 in 750,000 doses)(Nathanson, 2008). As a
result of this, industrialized countries only inoculate the vaccine through inactivated polio vaccine
(IPV), which cannot revert. And finally, live attenuated vaccine failure can occur due to antibody
interference, with replication of the vaccine pathogen and lead to poor response to the vaccine.
Live attenuated vaccines can be difficult to develop, as they are fragile and can be damaged by heat or
light. Though they must be handled and stored carefully, live attenuated vaccines elicit a long lasting
and protective immune

The Impact of the Internet on the Production,...
The creation of the web was not only a revolutionary movement but also acted as a door for endless
opportunities in the music industry. Its ability alone to provide the general public with continuous
information is astounding, but it also acts a platform for users to access, distribute and produce music.
According to Andrew P.S (2006, 1), the internet was not created with a business mentality but as the
years went by it began and continues to be moulded into a continuous path where consumers grasp the
aptitude to which they could discover incessant possibilities online such as the access to music.
Evidently, the internet solely acts as a huge factor in the shaping of the music industry today, more
positively than negatively. Below, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
O.C Ferrell and Michael D.H (2007: 373) argues that the introduction of a peer to peer website known
as Napster allowed online users to share their high quality MP3 digital copies of music recordings
through its MusicShare software. With the materialization of such a progressive online distributing
site, internet users were rapidly drawn to its straightforward methods of downloading music. Indeed,
so many college students were downloading songs from Napster that many universities were forced to
block the site from their system in order to regain bandwidth. O.C. Ferrell and Michael D.H. (2007,

also caused a lot of dispute involving the RIAA which sued the site for violating copyright laws.
With such a revolutionary platform such as the internet, users all over the globe are rapidly getting
access to it. According to the IDC and the Internet World Statistics, during December 1995 there was a

Should Public Funds Be Used To Support Art Essay
In recent years, people are more and more interested in the topic about if the funds are supposed to
support Art, and they are still straggling in this issue or even have some drastic online debate. Public
funds are the governmental foundations that gather money from the taxpayer to help run the
communal facilities. Due to read through a lot of research, which made by other specialist, art is a
good use of taxpayer s money if it offers the society job opportunity or economic advantage. This is a
direct quote said by Lauren, Minneapolis in the report which written by Ringham (2009), Art is a good
use of taxpayers money when it creates a cultural environment that brings businesses and jobs to the
area. This essay will examine and argue that public funds should be used to support artistic project on
events for two main reasons, education and economy.
To begin with, students are the future of the society, and Art is a good public sector investment for
educational assets. If the government supports Art, more pupils can learn it earlier and more diffusive.

surge of bank panics and failures during the depression s onset (1930 1933). However, an institution
created with the intention of preventing such a string of disasters failed to fulfill its obligation as a
lender of last resort. This is the Fed, and its failure to prevent the early bank panics of the Great
Depression is a very interesting economic issue. So why did the Fed fail to fulfill its duty? The reason
for the Fed s actions (or lack thereof) was a combination of the strict elitist leadership in the Fed and
the results of adaptive expectations on immature monetary policy. ... Show more content on

Later it was determined that bank failures were a problem of bank management which was not the
systems responsibility (Friedman 358). This is the first example of the Fed s apathetic and elitist
attitude; this attitude prevented them from seeing that bank panics are contagious. If the public looses
confidence in the system because it knows the Fed will not help them, this will only cause more runs
on banks. The truth is that the Fed was every bit as responsible for the bank panics as poor bank
management was. The Fed did not want to admit to this, and so further separated itself by declaring
that non member banks were not its problem either (Friedman 358). From 1921 to 1930 most failed
banks were non members. The Fed felt no responsibility for these banks, and this is proved by the fact
that directors meeting minutes during this time are only concerned with the failures of member banks;
they didn t even discuss the closing of non member banks (Friedman). The lack of the Fed s action on
non member banks is also interesting because the Fed was created largely in response to the bank
panics of 1907, a time when all

High fat diets and western eating habits were restricted to rich industrialised nations with higher Gross
National Product levels (GNP). The consumption of animal products high in fat and protein had been
a measure of prosperity and higher social status, such as milk, butter and meat. Now, high fat diets and

It enables a greater variety and quantity of agricultural goods to be traded on the global market.
Moreover, this liberalization gives the freedom to global investors to make foreign investments into
other countries. Some of these foreign investments include transnational food companies (TFCs),
including large supermarkets (Hawkes, 2006). In consequence, a greater level of international flow of
goods and services and capital result from this market and policy liberalization. A notable agreement
was the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) agreement on
agriculture. It bound countries to reduce tariffs, export subsidies and domestic agricultural support.
Overall, other bilateral agreements that have taken place over the last 30 years have allowed policy
shifts to establish a more liberal global agricultural marketplace. This has also encouraged the growth
of TFCs, easily creating a global network of food import/export for cheaper prices, changing the
supply of foods (Hawkes, 2006). How does this affect the nutrition transition? With this increase in
liberalisation of markets, there is a significant change of food distribution and access that has
particularly affected countries undergoing development. Generally, foods that are more energy dense
with less nutrients are more readily available, particularly from TFCs and greater supermarket access,

The Between India And India
In the early sixteenth century, India stayed divided up into independent kingdoms until 1526. In 1526,
a Mughal emperor conquered the northern and central hemispheres of India and forced everyone
under his rule. Many recognize him as the first Muslim emperor rule to India and he influenced the
Mughal title in a superlative way. One might question how the Mughals in India acquired recognition
and fame. This is because the majority of rulers in the throne ruled exceedingly well and treated their
people with compassion and respect. However, not all of the emperors possessed that respect.
Additionally, some Mughal rulers expressed generosity towards their subjects religions, while others

He lost his kingdom and was forced into exile, where he and his wife gave birth to a baby, who would
be considered the greatest Muslim emperor in India. When Akbar, Humayun s son, was fourteen years
old, his father managed to regain control of India, but unfortunately met his expiration when he fell
down a set of stairs, leaving his son in charge of the empire. Akbar, luckily, resembled no
characteristics that his father possessed. The extraordinary emperor expanded his land tremendously
and conquered many countries. Additionally, Akbar treated his subjects respectfully, careful to meet
their needs. He also did not show favoritism towards Muslims over Hindus. Examples of this are, how
he discouraged the horrific practices of Hindus, and he accommodated the tax rates of the Hindus to
the lower prices the Muslims paid. Also, Akbar even married Hindu princesses and had children with
them. Therefore, this shows that the true nature of this benevolent emperor is what impacted the
empire in an amazing way. Furthermore, Akbar and his Hindu wife, Jodha gave birth to the next ruler
of India, Jahangir. The new emperor did not acquire his father s ruling skills, for Jahangir continuously
lived in fear of the Persians, who attained a similar army as the Muslims did. Also, he allowed his wife
to take over his world and influence his decisions. Jahangir lived a life with not much conquering or

Dna Testing In Criminal Justice Essay
The scary truth about the criminal justice system is it does have errors. For every seven executions,
one death row prisoner is found innocent. Before DNA testing, they could not match a blood sample to
just one person, only a blood type. In the late 1990 s DNA testing revolutionized the accuracy of
verdicts. Every person, besides identical twins, has their own unique DNA sequence. They can match
hair, skin tissue, blood or any genetic material to one individual. ( DNA Testing and Capital
Punishment ). Now that this new technology is released, many inmates who were convicted before this
technology was introduced want the opportunity to be exonerated. Along with DNA testing, there has

In the past two decades, over half of the death penalty trials have contained constitutional errors, and
five percent of those people were exonerated during retrial proving the faults of the current system. As
Leahy stated, We have cast iron scientific proof that a significant number of people sentenced to death
in America in the late twentieth century have been absolutely, undeniably innocent. This goes to show
that one out of three cases that are successful is simply not good enough. Cases in which DNA testing
has proven inmates innocence shows that the system is not perfect, and when it comes to a person s
life, there is no room for constitutional violations. There is another problem in death penalty trials, the
lawyers. In too many cases defendants have been assigned lawyers who were later disbarred,
suspended or are fresh out of law school with little to no experience. Finding quality lawyers who can
handle a death penalty trial appropriately to do it pro bono, or for little pay is hard. This is why Leahy
came up with the Innocence Protection Act to provide funding in order to give defendants accurate
representation in death penalty trials

Ratio Analysis Paper
Ratios describe the various relationships among accounts in the balance sheet and income statement.
Financial ratios are important and helpful gauges of how an organization is functioning. An
organization s financial health, potential revenue, and even possible bankruptcy can be garnered from
financial ratios. Information derived from financial statements is used to calculate most ratios and
make projections. Ratios help investors and lenders determine the risk associated with lending or

Expense Ratios
Personnel Costs Ratio Costs related to staffing generally take up the largest portion of the budget.
Adjustments to staffing percentages are easily seen in the budget. Formula: Total wages, taxes and
benefit expense / Total expenses = Personnel costs ratio.
FS 2010: $1,639,564 / $14,904,356 = 0.11 or 11%
FS 2009: $1,446,010 / $14,584,770 = 0.09 or 9%
FS 2008: $1,199,759 / $12,678,305 = 0.09 or 9% The Children s Home maintains a low personnel
costs ratio. The trend over the last three years shows a steady staffing percentage with a slight growth.
The benchmark for this ratio is set by the board or is by comparison to industry peers. This
organization should take note of the fact that, when this ratio is low, there is little room for staff
alterations in the face of financial crisis.

Opposing Gun Control with the Right to Bear Arms
The United States Patriot Militia in 1780 was the day of the battle that was the turning point of the
Revolutionary War. These militiamen were normal arms bearing citizens that gave the forward
momentum of our country s development, and without these citizens that stood up for our country, our
life may not be as it is today. The topic of gun control has been controversial for years about how it
causes more violence, more murders, homicides, etc. The main thing that is being fought about is
whether or not gun regulations should be tightened. It is a big controversy whether or not if the law is
made more strict then murders and other violence related to firearms are going to be reduced.
tightening gun regulations will affect none of these things.
The purpose of the Second Amendment is to give people the right to keep and bear arms which is why
this amendment is so important. The Second Amendment states A well regulated Militia, being
necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed . This is saying that the people have the right to bear arms. People try to point out that it
talks about militia and try to say, well that s the National Guard , but it s not. Every citizen that is able
to yield a firearm is considered to be in the reserve militia (LaCourse). Therefore taking the right to
bear arms away from citizens is depriving them of the ability to do their duty as a citizen. A large

Changes For Standard Operating Procedure Essay
Changes to standard operating procedure
Improvements in pain management have many benefits for the patient, clinician and health care
provider. Patients benefit from reduced pain, discomfort, physiological stress, delirium, morbidity, and
the facilitation of return to mobility and independence (NICE, 2011). Clinicians benefit from having
more manageable, less physiologically unstable patients, and reduced personal dis ease with patients
in pain. Health care providers will benefit from earlier discharge, more patient independence and less
morbidity, as hospital bed days, post discharge nursing and social care costs are reduced.
There is currently no standard operating procedure specifically relating the FNOF developed by
SWASFT. The most applicable clinical guideline is the Pain Management Guideline (SWASFT, 2014)
which has only one explicitly stated requirement: to perform at least one pain assessment and repeat
that assessment after each intervention. Implicit in the guideline is that every patient [should] receive
the most effective pain relief that can safely be delivered and it recommends a combination of non
pharmacological and pharmacological interventions, but falls short of setting minimum standards.
Nationally JRCALC (2013) states that analgesia should be administered as soon as clinically possible
and that splinting and immobilisation be performed.
There are several guidelines that apply to ED and although they are useful yardsticks they cannot be

The University Of Oregon School Of Law
Marlen Pikovsky Personal Statement I am applying to the University of Oregon School of Law to
compliment my experiences as an undergraduate and to take the next step on my path towards my
professional goals. In order to become a successful legal professional in the field of international
human rights, one needs to understand the intricate complexities of global communities. The
University of Oregon School of Law will broaden my vantage point to encompass other legal realities
of migration and human rights. The academics, programs, and faculty in the University of Oregon
School of Law will facilitate my career development, and also expand upon what I have learned thus
far as an undergraduate. If admitted, I would tailor my studies to meet my interests in migrant
populations and subsequently, use my law degree to aid vulnerable populations. Like many others, my
perspective and ambitions are driven and profoundly influenced by my family s history. As the
daughter of two Ukrainian refugee immigrants, I have learned firsthand how important it is to have
access to legal resources. While living in the Soviet Union, my family was repeatedly denied
community benefits because of their Jewish heritage. Religious and ethnic persecution impacted my
family s life in negative ways, minimizing their confidence and limiting their opportunities. However,
once they received assistance from an outreach program, they were able to receive asylum in the
United States and begin a better life. This

The Knight s Interpretation Of Death In The Film
Throughout the movie, Death came from the manifestation of a knight s imagination. The knight see
death with a human appearance consists of covering his body completely with a black cloak, only
revealing his pale face. Another resemblance of death is when the knight tried to ask a passerby which
turned how he died for a few days from the plague. After the confrontation, the knight commented the
corpse was a gentleman yet silent. This situation was similar how death himself characterized, usually
reply with vague answers is needed, yet approaches to his victims silently. The woman knight rescued
said her first along with last words before they descended to the dance of death of It is finished. What
was significant about the scene is that throughout the movie her personality was gloomy and didn t say
anything. At the end she approaches death with the quote, smiling in a happy tone as if ... Show more

After making a deal with death through a chess game, he started to question his faith of Christianity.
Questioning about god s existence whether he s hidden somewhere beyond not answering the prayers
or there was nothing to have faith in the first place. Simultaneously, his major fear was discovering
that life or religion itself was meaningless. The squire was atheist insulting the painter for the
interpretation of death dancing with mortals. Squire was also mocking events in life by commenting
through satire as if he doesn t care. Overall, he doesn t intend to focus about meaning of life. For
example, after the blacksmith was in search of his wife, the squire tried to persuade him to go after
other woman, talking down on woman. Joseph and Mary were resemblance of hope and happiness of
humanity by seeing positivity during the black plague. Particularly, Joseph also sees illusions similar
to the knight, however he doesn t interact but

The Argument Against The Hip-Hop Group Public Enemy
Imagine a mind changing tour into ghetto life in the United States, the drugs, the violence, the
hopelessness. Think about political movements, riots, cries for change. Think of some of the greatest
modern artists among us. All these ideas stem from, bring awareness of, and originate in classic hip
hop. The advocacy of societal change, the inspiration its artists got from their songs, and its impact on
future artists have cemented Classic hip hop as the most influential music genre of all time.
Classic hip hop s debatable and political content advocates for societal change. The explicit content
which permeated classic hip hop was something that the music industry hadn t experienced yet.
However, many of these rap protest records are not without cause. An anthem of anger for blacks
growing up in the streets of Compton and Los Angeles, N.W.A. released a song in which they took
part in a fictional trial against the L.A.P.D ( N.W.A. ). The song highlights offenses of brutality among
police to the minorities living in such areas. By addressing a relevant and scary issue at the time, its
lyrics ignited victims of such heinous crimes. In turn, it called for a ... Show more content on

Racial ideology and injustice is an issue which spans across all generations. Public Enemy s protest
songs voiced protest of these societal issues, making them unforgettable ( Public Enemy ). By
appealing to those oppressed in inner city and project life they reached an audience who felt there
needed to be a serious change in how society handles racial profiling.( Gangsta Rap ). A lot of poverty
lies within these areas of the United States, which many Americans are oblivious to. By highlighting
our biggest downfalls as people, many classic hip hop songs can inspire both the insider and outsider
alike to make a change. The fearlessness to recognize societal dilemmas caused classic hip hop to start

  • 2. Global Effects of Ozone Depletion Essay Global Effects of Ozone Depletion Ozone depletion in the earth s atmosphere is under constant scrutiny by the American press and people. Perhaps the concern is warranted; the ozone layer protects life on earth by absorbing 97 99% of the damaging ultraviolet radiation from the sun (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 2006). Over the past twenty years, the stratospheric ozone has decreased approximately 3% per decade. Possible concerns have been raised about loss of polar caps, DNA damage, increased human health risks, and environmental process disturbance. Emerging research has helped clarify effects of global ozone depletion. Three areas that have received recent scientific attention include UV effects upon macroalgae, ... Therefore, if increased UV radiation has a similar effect on other natural chloroform emitting sources, the increase in organohalogens could be much more significant. If such an increase were significant, it would create a vicious circle increased UV radiation causes stress to living organisms; increased stress causes a higher production of organohalogens; organohalogens breakdown stratospheric ozone; lower levels of ozone increase earth s surface radiation. Increased surface radiation has also been linked indirectly to increased decomposition time. Barley that has been exposed to increased levels of UV B radiation has been shown to have increased levels of lignin (a binding agent) and cellulose (Pancotto, et. al., 2005). Microbes are unable to breakdown lignin and cellulose as quickly as soluble carbohydrates. As a result, decomposition takes longer. Scientists speculated that barley litter exposed to higher levels of UV radiation would decompose quicker than barley exposed to ambient levels of radiation (regardless of exposure to UV radiation during growth). However, a group of American and Argentine scientists found the slight decrease in decomposition time to be insignificant compared to the overall increase due to higher levels of cellulose and lignin. It is important to note, however, that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How The Apollonian Contrasts With The Dionysian Nietzsche has a different outlook on the world. In World of Ideas, by Lee A. Jacobus, it says; Nietzsche s task was to explain the polarities, their form of expression, and their effect. (pg. 643) What is the they you ask? Well, Jacobus says; The Apollonian contrasts with the Dionysian, the Greek with the barbarian, the dream with the illusion. (pg. 643) There are many more examples, but I will spare you the long list. An Apollonian is a relation to the rational, ordered, and self disciplined aspects of human nature. A Dionysian is a relation to the sensual, spontaneous, and emotional aspects of human nature. This evaluation will compare how the two interpret today s music, cinematics, and art. First, Apollonians and Dionysians hear music in different ways. Apollonians are classical in the department. An Apollonian would rather watch a play; a live theatre performance. They find it much more awe inspiring if they see the performance all in one take. They want to see the actors make the play a perfection, waiting to see if a mistake is made and if the actors can recover. A Dionysian,on the other hand, likes movies more. They don t care how many outtakes it had, they want more. The symbolism, the story, the computer generated images, how a script can be brought to life. They don t care how, they care how soon. Third, and final, there is a difference in how Apollonians and Dionysians perceive art. Now, art is hard to understand, and can take many shapes and forms. Apollonians like the simpler art, the ones that are easy to understand and look at. If you were to give them a single picture that looked concave and convex at the same time, they wouldn t appreciate that to much. That is more of a Dionysian outlook. The reason why I love teaching 10th grade is because I can see first hand the transition my students undergo from children, to young adults. Lorain states that during the adolescent years, children begin developing skills in deductive reasoning, problem solving, and generalizing (Lorain). Not only are students interpreting information on a deeper level, but during this time they are also learning to control their impulses. I would like to take full credit and say that most of this is due to providing students with predictable and safe environments so that they can take risks, explore, and grow , but I know that the child s development also plays a larger role. • 7. The Peral by John Steinbeck If a homeless man were to win a $1,000,000 lottery, how would he handle the circumstance? In The Pearl, John Steinbeck depicts the story of Kino, a destitute Mexican Indian male who devotes his life towards his wife and newborn son. He discovers a great pearl that seems to have the potential to change his life for the better; however, Steinbeck shows how Kino s discovery of a great fortune can lead to disaster. The pearl installs greed in Kino as he desires to improve his social status, and overall creates an evil corruption that destroys his family. The pearl has three primary functions. It causes man to become more impulsively animalistic, shows society s corruption; greediness; and jealousy, and provides a false hope, an illusion that the pearl is infinitely valued, but in reality has no value at all. The discovery of the great pearl influences Kino to be more animalistic. ...Kino s fist closed over the pearl and his emotion broke over him. He put back his head and howled. His eyes rolled up and he screamed and his body was rigid (Steinbeck 11). An immune compromised patient, such as those taking immune suppressive agents (organ donor, leukemia), cannot be given this vaccine as it produces the actual disease (Clem, 2011). This was known to occur with live (oral) polio vaccine, where the microbe reverted into a form that paralysed the vaccinated host (1 in 750,000 doses)(Nathanson, 2008). As a result of this, industrialized countries only inoculate the vaccine through inactivated polio vaccine (IPV), which cannot revert. And finally, live attenuated vaccine failure can occur due to antibody interference, with replication of the vaccine pathogen and lead to poor response to the vaccine. Monetary Policy During The Great Depression Essay example Monetary Policy During The Great Depression One of the most important aspects of the Great Depression that stands out in economists minds is the surge of bank panics and failures during the depression s onset (1930 1933). However, an institution created with the intention of preventing such a string of disasters failed to fulfill its obligation as a lender of last resort. This is the Fed, and its failure to prevent the early bank panics of the Great Depression is a very interesting economic issue. So why did the Fed fail to fulfill its duty? The reason for the Fed s actions (or lack thereof) was a combination of the strict elitist leadership in the Fed and the results of adaptive expectations on immature monetary policy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later it was determined that bank failures were a problem of bank management which was not the systems responsibility (Friedman 358). This is the first example of the Fed s apathetic and elitist attitude; this attitude prevented them from seeing that bank panics are contagious. If the public looses confidence in the system because it knows the Fed will not help them, this will only cause more runs on banks. The truth is that the Fed was every bit as responsible for the bank panics as poor bank management was. The Fed did not want to admit to this, and so further separated itself by declaring that non member banks were not its problem either (Friedman 358). From 1921 to 1930 most failed banks were non members. The Fed felt no responsibility for these banks, and this is proved by the fact that directors meeting minutes during this time are only concerned with the failures of member banks; they didn t even discuss the closing of non member banks (Friedman). Moreover, this liberalization gives the freedom to global investors to make foreign investments into other countries. Some of these foreign investments include transnational food companies (TFCs), including large supermarkets (Hawkes, 2006). In consequence, a greater level of international flow of goods and services and capital result from this market and policy liberalization. A notable agreement was the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) agreement on agriculture. It bound countries to reduce tariffs, export subsidies and domestic agricultural support. Overall, other bilateral agreements that have taken place over the last 30 years have allowed policy shifts to establish a more liberal global agricultural marketplace. This has also encouraged the growth of TFCs, easily creating a global network of food import/export for cheaper prices, changing the supply of foods (Hawkes, 2006). How does this affect the nutrition transition? With this increase in liberalisation of markets, there is a significant change of food distribution and access that has particularly affected countries undergoing development. Cases in which DNA testing has proven inmates innocence shows that the system is not perfect, and when it comes to a person s life, there is no room for constitutional violations. The topic of gun control has been controversial for years about how it causes more violence, more murders, homicides, etc. The main thing that is being fought about is whether or not gun regulations should be tightened. It is a big controversy whether or not if the law is made more strict then murders and other violence related to firearms are going to be reduced. tightening gun regulations will affect none of these things. The purpose of the Second Amendment is to give people the right to keep and bear arms which is why this amendment is so important.
