Salem Witch Trials Paranoia Essay
In the 1680 s and 1690 s there was mass hysteria in New England over supposed witchcraft. The most
famous outbreak was in Salem, Massachusetts, hence the name Salem Witch Trials. In Salem, there
were young girls who started acting strangely, and they leveled accusations of witchcraft against some
of the West Indian servants who were immersed in voodoo tradition. Most of the accusations were
against women, and soon the accusations started to shift to the substantial and prominent women.
Neighbors accused other neighbors, husbands accused their wives, etc. and it kept going on for a
while. There was this nature of evil and the trials didn t end until nineteen Salem residents were put to
death in 1692, more importantly before the girls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nature of evil was spread by Satan and the people that followed, which were witches. Acts of
witchcraft was one of the greatest crimes a person could commit, that is punishable by death.
When the group of girls were acting strange and got accused of being witches, everyone started
pointing fingers. There was the paranoia that any person could be a part of a conspiracy that was
created by the devil caused false accusations to be spread around. This paranoia was used to make
false accusations on many innocent citizens because people were trying not to take the focus away
from themselves. There was research that was done on those that were accused and what it showed
was that most of the accusations were against middle age women who had few or no children and
were widowed. The accused witches were of low social position, and because of some domestic
conflicts, they were accused of other crimes and were considered abrasive (Brinkley, 86). by other
people around them. Once a person was accused of being under the influence of the devil, which is a
big offence, they would start to be treated differently from the rest. It wasn t the actual presence of
Satan that caused this chaos, but the anxiety and fear of him that did.
The Puritan society had very little tolerance to women who had independence and those who had
come into possession of land and property on their own challenged the

Iago Is The Protagonist In Othello
William Shakespeare s Othello is a remarkable tale of trust, deceitfulness, lust and the most
destructive of human emotions: vengeance and hatred. Iago better known as Othello s antagonist
embodies vengeance and hatred to move an agenda to squash all who oppose Iago s plans. As defined
by Merrium Webster the definition of a protagonist is a principal character in a literary work or a
leading actor, character, or participant in a literary work. Othello by Shakespeare is a play about
Othello an example of a tragic hero with all figures centered around Othello as the protagonist yet,
Othello has two main leading characters. Iago and Othello have stark contrasts as leading roles and

As a masterful leading machiavellian character Iago exploits the flaw all characters poses in Othello
which is faith versus doubt in others. A powerful role to mold an entire play behind the goal of a
singular entity under the eyes of a scholar qualifies as a protagonist( Hull). Iago breaks the boundaries
that define antagonist or protagonist by being complex enough and having enough lines that place him
on par if not above Othello (West 42 ). The main flaw in the protagonist argument is how Iago is a
static character without any clear transformation. Evidence from his lack of change exist in act one
and to the final act is continuously lying and trying to create chaos. Antagonist or protagonist Iago s
actions qualify as morally wrong when usually a protagonist that drives the plot is working for good;
however, by definition a protagonist is not inertly of good moral code. ( Hull) Iago has an interesting
set of flaws and advantages showing characteristics of a psychopath. Without flaws Iago would lose
his humane characteristics and potentially lose the audiences interest ( West 13). Iago has no positive
moral compass and an unexplained desire to destroy friend or foe even after the fact that Othello
murders Desdemona qualifies the character as psychotic. Iago even recognizes his planning of evil
actions to ruin Othello as simply a game Let us be conjunctive against him. If thou canst cuckold him,
thou dost thyself a pleasure, me a sport. (Act 1 Scene

398 pages Summary
Instead of the Beck and Charles telling a story of a significant person to make a point the Authors
discussed the original argument for the United States Constitution. The argument was originally
written by the federalists in the late 18th century. These historical documents are commonly referred
to as the federalist papers. Beck and Charles go over seven different topics and arguments discussed in
the federalist papers.
Part One: Novus ordo seclorum: A New Order For the Ages is all about the new way of thinking once
the colonies declared independence from England. It discussed how new concepts were being
introduced and why a new order was needed for that particular time. In fact Alexander Hamilton
sounded a lot like Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln s main objective as president was also to
preserve the Union. Hamilton wrote, Nothing remains as obvious as the fact that either the new
Constitution will be adopted or the Union will be torn apart. It is therefore necessary to examine the
advantages of the Union, as well as the evils and dangers that would result from its disbanding. (Beck

The Fall By Albert Camus
Albert Camus s absurdist novel The Fall deals with many overarching themes: justice, guilt, judgment,
freedom, and power. One of the more understated themes is that of punishment, as Jean Baptiste
Clamence is never formally punished. And yet, though the law does not condemn him, he still finds
himself plagued by guilt and fear of judgment even after he claims to have found a solution. Camus
shows, through symbolism and Clamence s own narration, that the lack of punishment is a burden for
Clamence in his supposedly happy life. While speaking to his companion of his new lifestyle in
Amsterdam, Jean Baptiste Clamence proclaims that he has discovered the secrets of the good life
(Camus 144). He even insists, repeatedly, that he is happy, happy unto death (144). And yet Camus
sprinkles hints all over the pages that this is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Water is inextricably tied to his guilt: the suicidal woman he fails to save drowns in a canal (70), and it
is from the water that he first hears the condemning laughter (39). Before he ever mentions the woman
Clamence didn t save, Camus connects water with death, as Clamence comments on the breath of
stagnant waters, the smell of dead leaves soaking in the canal and the funereal scent rising from the
barges loaded with flowers (43). The water represents his guilt and his crimes, and yet, rather than
escaping it, Clamence moves to a city of canals where he is constantly surrounded by water. This is
not because the water doesn t affect him any longer; on the contrary, he still fears to cross bridges at
night (15) and he admits that he forces himself to admire the canals (43). He outright acknowledges
that the cry of the suicidal woman would continue to await me on seas and rivers, everywhere, in
short, where lies the bitter waters of my baptism (108). Thus, in surrounding himself by water,
Clamence is sure never to be free of the torment of his

Four Types of Measurement Scales
Introduction There are four measurement scales, or types of data, nominal, ordinal interval and ratio.
These four measurements are simple ways to categorize different types of variables. This paper will
discuss the usage of each scale.
Nominal
Nominal scales are the most commonly used in marketing research. Nominal scales are used for
labeling variables, without any quantitative value. In fact, Nominal scales could be called labels .
Nominal are categories with numbers assigned to them to facilitate analysis. A nominal scale partitions
data into categories that are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive, implying that every bit of
data will fit into one and only one category and that all data will fit somewhere on the ... Show more

Examples: RULER: inches or centimeters YEARS of work experience INCOME: money earned last
year NUMBER of children
Conclusion It s important to recognize that there is a hierarchy implied in the level of measurement
idea. At lower levels of measurement, assumptions tend to be less restrictive and data analyses tend to
be less sensitive. At each level up the hierarchy, the current level includes all of the qualities of the one
below it and adds something new. In general, it is desirable to have a higher level of measurement
(e.g., interval or ratio) rather than a lower one (nominal or

Emily Dickinson Extended Metaphors
For most, specifically female poets, Emily Dickinson is a legend. Dickinson emerged out of an era in
the 1800 s when women were not acknowledged for their diligence and were not given the
opportunities to be educated as males were given. Dickinson wrote a total of one thousand seven
hundred and seventy five poems including She Sweeps with many colored Brooms , which was
written between 1858 and 1861. Dickinson is well known for the themes of her literary works to
involve death, love, religion, nature, or eternity. The poem She Sweeps with many colored Brooms
incorporates the use of a theme involving nature since in her poem a common housewife is being
compared to a parting sunset. Through the use of an extended metaphor and specific ... Show more

long e sound. The use of a long e sound at this point in the poem creates the rhythm of a broom

going back and forth. She sweeps with many colored brooms, and leaves the shreds behind (1). She
uses the short i sound in the third stanza when she uses the word still twice and till only once. The
vowel sound of these words carries a quick pace just as a sunset does. The use of the short i sound

1980 Banking Crisis
Since the crisis of 1933 the United States has never been the same, following with the crisis of 1980

the economy, destroyed families, left people homeless, and even destroyed future generations.

This almost brought down the world s financial system, and threatened the collapse some of the large
financial institutions. Which luckily was prevented by the bailout of banks by national governments,
but left the stock markets to fend for themselves, thus causing global drop. It took huge taxpayer
financed bailouts to shore up the industry. Even so, the ensuing credit crunch turned what was already
a bad turn out into the worst recession in 80 years. In 2008 the world economy faced its most
dangerous crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. The contagion, which began in 2007 when
sky high home prices in the United States finally turned decisively downward, spread quickly, first to
the entire U.S. financial sector and then to financial markets overseas. The American economy is built
on credit, and because of this credit went unchecked and got out of control. Many people were taking
out loans, mortgages became simple. Many people got rich and wanted more. Banks made a cut on the
sale, then packaged the mortgage with a group of other mortgages and erased all personal
responsibility of the loans. The housing market eventually declined, causing massive losses in
mortgage backed securities. Many banks and investment firms began losing money. This also caused a
massive amount of homes on the market which lowered housing prices and slowed

The Characteristics And Stereotypes Of Latinos El Bandido
Reports show that Latinos are the most underrepresented ethnic group in film affected by stereotypical
issues shown via pictures in our heads and through watching. I concur with this information as
stereotype starts from a personal level, which is definite through meditation, this does not include all
the negative traits portrayed by the out group. Although we have some general stereotypical
agreements within in groups that cannot change. This stereotyping is evident in a case where a
foreigner defines Bandido accurately while a (North) American will involve them with laziness, being
dirty and all sorts of negativity on them. These findings make me feel that Latinos and Americans will
always be contrary to their film industry. The stereotype on Latinos el Bandido is based not only on
ethnic but also behavioral, where they are deemed violent and antisocial, different nationality, as in not
belonging to the North America and psychological where they are associated with alcoholic,
prostitution and being unstable. With this stereotype, Hollywood is seen as a perfect example of the
filmmaking and professionalism, in a way this demeans the Latinos effort in the film. Stereotypical
images are in the cinematic register where they are intentionally included to make film sale and also to
be critical in the narration process. Hollywood stereotyping Latino s poet is common in many films
displaying poverty and crime as part of their livelihood. Moreover, they use standard films

Parental Discipline And Child Abuse
How many times have you had a conversation with someone about how you were raised? I can
guarantee that at least one person mentioned that they were disciplined through punishments or maybe
this person might actually be you. The person who was forced to deal with punishments as a child
most likely became more disciplined earlier than everyone else and most likely still is.
To be clear, the intended definition of punishments to be used is a penalization for committing an act
that would be considered unacceptable in the eyes of the parent i.e swearing, fighting, being
disrespectful, etc. This is also known as parental discipline. Although it may not seem like it there is a
clear boundary separating parental discipline from child abuse. Parental discipline is intended for the
betterment of the child, while child abuse is for the parent or guardian s sick, demented pleasure. This
clarification allows discussion to begin concerning the main point.
Even though it could be seen as abusive in the eyes of the public, parental discipline is necessary for a
child to become more mature at an early age. Not only will this early maturity allow the child to
develop a sense of right as well as becoming more of a selfless person, it also starts molding them into
a productive member of society with their own set of responsibilities.
The first reason for why parental discipline is necessary when raising a child, is that it makes a child
grow up realizing that the world doesn t revolve around

Sacrifice In The Little Mermaid By Hans Christian Andersen
The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen is certainly not a Disney movie. The tale is disturbing
the reality that the mermaid and human beings is totally from different world, which the story does not
end up with a happy ending. Little Mermaid is not Ariel; instead she sacrifices her freedom, her voice,
her family, her body, her identity and even her life to be with the man who does not love her and who
treats her as a slave girl. She is not a role model for modern teenagers because she sacrifices her entire
life and her dignity for someone does not value her sacrifice. Although her selfless self sacrificial love
may consider as a great behavior to some people, it is not worth for her to give up everything and be
with the one who does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because it is a weapon for them to lure the men. Andersen revels, Then she cut off the mermaid
s tongue, so that she become dumb, and would never again speak or sing (8). This shows her naïve
behavior, as she believes she can still enchain the prince s heart without her beautiful voice. Moreover,
she has a strong desire of being a human being as the author said, I would give gladly all the hundreds
of years that I have to live, to be a human being only for one day, and to have the hope of knowing the
happiness of that glorious world above the stars (6). This shows her curiosity of being a human being
for one day. Massengale demonstrates convincingly that the young fifteen year old protagonist has
been strongly influenced by her grandmother. She learns that she must suffer to gain a position in the
upper world and that she can never gain an immortal soul (Zipes 108). However, losing her voice
means nothing as she becomes ignorant that she is not able express herself anymore. This is because
Warner states the Little Mermaid sacrifices her song to no avail except for the story, which keeps faith
with her memory. Her siren song condenses all inherited belief in women s sexual powers; the Little
Mermaid surrenders them when she becomes bifurcated and bleeds, as if once the innocence of
childhood has passed, that very sexuality turn against its possessor and makes the young woman

The Characteristics Of Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie became one of the wealthiest men in the entire world, primarily due to his steel
company. He lived from 1835 to 1919, and his industry grew in the time of the Gilded Age, a period
marked by industrial and economic growth. Carnegie had many different attributes, making it difficult
for historians to characterize him. Some argue that he was a robber baron (someone who uses immoral
techniques to gain wealth), a philanthropist (someone who donates money for the good of others), or a
captain of industry (someone who becomes very rich through business). While aspects of the robber
baron and philanthropist characterizations are true, Carnegie was a successful businessman first and

He made his successful workers into his partners, as [n]othing delighted Carnegie more than to see the
man whom he had lifted from a puddler s furnace develop into a millionaire. This motivation likely
stemmed from his own poor upbringing and success in life. In his essay titled Gospel of Wealth,
Carnegie encouraged wealthy people to give money to the public and suggested seven fields in which
to invest the money. In another essay, called The Advantages of Poverty, he provided insight into one
of his motivations for philanthropy, by claiming wealthy philanthropists can find refuge from self
questioning in the thought of the much greater portion of their means which is being spent on others.
Carnegie also believed that when his mind was solely preoccupied with making the largest possible
amount of money as quickly as possible, he was degrad[ing himself] beyond hope of permanent
recovery. Carnegie was particularly interested in giving libraries to various towns, but this quickly
became a business like gift. First, there was an application process the town had to go through. Then,
only gifting the building of the library, Carnegie would demand that the town collect taxes to pay for
the books and maintain the library (which usually cost every year about 10% of the amount of money
Carnegie donated). However, Carnegie s library giving had a pattern. After he broke up the union in
Braddock, he gifted that town a library. In a response to a letter from Homestead asking for a gift, he
replied if Homestead would only do something for him, he would be pleased to build a library there.
Towns were so afraid that libraries signified their destruction that 225 towns refused Carnegie s offer
of a library, as his offer was more threat than promise. Indeed, they could expect to pay a heavy

Nest Dragon Research Paper
Least Dragon s Behavioral Patterns
Least Dragon is one of the most fascinating species in Thrag Island, the small dragon which has a gray
green coloration with frills that turn red when extended, and is one of the few non fire breathing
species. Its displays of behavior such as ritualized aggression, and reproductive courtship and also the
defense mechanisms that this species uses makes this species s survival one of the most fascinating in
the island.
For starters, territoriality plays an important role in the dragon reproductive behavior as the male
dragons react to the approach or the song of another male, as a potential rivalry, which then starts a
display of ritualized aggression between them, as they continued to make rough cheech noises while
displaying their blood red frills (which is an example of sexual dimorphism as ... Show more content

Likewise, draconologists have been trying to explain the reason behind why this dragon species do not
breathe fire, the most accepted explanation is that the dragon short size will not produce a large flame
similar to its relatives (Westerosi dragons), which will not be enough protection against predators, and
also if used for reproductive purposes the flame would likely provide the location of the male, as it
would contrast with the greenish background of the forest and will leave a scent that could be tracked

A Study Of Provincial Life By George Eliot
Introduction
Middlemarch, A Study of Provincial Life is a novel by English author George Eliot, first published in
eight installments during 1871. The novel is set in the fictitious Midlands town of Middlemarch
during 1829 32, and it comprises several distinct stories and a large cast of characters. Significant
themes include the status of women, the nature of marriage, idealism, self interest, religion, hypocrisy,
political reform, and education
Middlemarch was written in the years leading up to 1832, during the Reform act, this act was for the
benefit of middle class people. Male defense of narrowing of options was the female brain was not
equal to the demands of commerce or the professions, and women, simply by virtue of their sex, had
no business mingling with men in a man s world (Altick 54). Contrast with men without the added
profit of a formal education put conditions in front of many Victorian women to find the only
possibility available, marriage as a main occupation. Marriage is one of the important themes in
Middlemarch as most of the characters marry for love and yet marriage still appears unpleasant and
unromantic. Unlike other novels of that time, marriage is not considered the fundamental source of
happiness. An ill advised or not wise marriage between two people who are inherently compatible
never becomes completely tuneful.

The Corruption Of Jealousy In Shakespeare s Othello
Despite being written in 1603, William Shakespeare s Othello is a tragic tale of love, jealousy and
betrayal that still resonates with audiences today. No doubt it is shakespeare s greatest tragedies. But
of the many strong emotions and tragic elements in Othello, jealousy seems to be at the core of all
events in the story. Jealousy results in hate, lies , betrayal, manipulation, and eventually to murder.
This play is about a Moore, Othello, who is a general in the army of Venice; an unusual position for an
African in a European society based on a strict racial and cultural hierarchy. Othello s appointment to
a position of power results in jealousy ad hatred from most of the people around him. Iago, the villain

A Brief Note On The Country Of Togo

ones who speak the Ewe language, moved to Togo by crossing the Niger River valley during the 12th

they are being put into child trafficking, they are afraid to go to school, and there are very few people

Some scientists believe ADHD is a result of a problem in pregnancy ranging from fetal alcohol

Human Body Art
The human body is a significant object in the art of all the periods of human life. Since the time when
people started to use tools and made first steps in the art they always tried to depict human body. The
human figure has been represented in various forms such as sculptures and paintings (Morphy, 2014).
Various civilizations, however, are different in their representation of human figures and the reasons of
the art representation are also different. To understand these motives only visual analysis is not enough
but learning the cultural and historical shreds of evidence behind these artworks is necessary. I chose
two artworks to analyze, Marble Statue of a Wounded Amazon and Hatshepsut Seated.
Marble Statue of a Wounded Amazon is a Greek ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strong steady position of the statue and traditional dresses has been styled to show the kingship
features of the statue. The human body has been stylized and not portrayed naturalistically. The
purpose of this statue is not to show the beauty of a human body but to express the power of a Pharaoh
of Egypt. In fact, from the style, one can easily tell that this is an Egyptian pharaoh without having to
go through the artwork. (David, A. (2010).
An analysis of two artwork Hatshepsut Seated and Marble Statute of a Wounded Amazon shows the
representation of human figure in different cultures and the reasons for their representation.
Hatshepsut Seated is an Egyptian sculpture, which was used to represent the image of kingship and
Egyptian Pharaohs and possibly show the immortality of pharaoh. Marble Statute of a Wounded
Amazon, on the other hand, is a Greek statue that represents the Greek women hero known as Amazon

The Reaction Of Polymerase Chain Reaction
Polymerase Chain Reaction:
Polymerase chain reaction, also known as PCR, a technology that has made a tremendous impact on
researchers, and has also affected many aspects of our everyday lives. The introduction of
recombinant DNA technology has revolutionized the study of life as a tool for the biological sciences.
Molecular cloning allowed the study of individual genes of living organisms; however there was
dependence of obtaining a relatively large quantity of pure DNA. Scientists found it extremely
difficult to get a specific DNA in quantity from the mass of genes present in a biological sample. A
technique that amplifies DNA through a simple enzymatic reaction, was developed by Karry Mullis at
that time which enabled scientists to make millions or even billions of copies of a DNA molecule in a
very short time. PCR is a quick, less expensive and a very simple way of copying a specific DNA
fragments from minute quantities of source DNA material, even if the source DNA is of relatively
poor quality.
Reasons for the amplification of DNA.
1) To create multiple copies of a portion of DNA which is very rare. For example a forensic scientist
may need to amplify a small fragment of DNA from a crime scene or a parenting test.
2) To compare two different samples of DNA to know which one is more abundant. Because DNA is
microscopic so we cannot visualize it in a tube. However, if we amplify both samples at the same rate,
we can calculate which sample was more to begin with by

Match Point, the film which critics call a surprising rebirth (Neher 554) is Allen s darkest and most

In Match Point, Chris Wilton starts to play tennis because it was a way out of poverty and offers a
more glamorous life. When he decides not to pursue this career, he goes to London to work as a tennis
instructor, still not knowing what he wants to do with his life. Over dinner, he mentions how he had to
wash cars to make a living, similar to the life of Nola Rice. She escapes from her rural life in Boulder
Colorado, where she comes from a broken home. She tells Chris that she never went to college, her
sister is a drug addict, her father left her family early, and that her mother, also an alcoholic, had to
take care of the family, but could not hold any job. Therefore, she sent Nola to beauty pageants, where

An egg has the capability of withstanding a large amount of force as long as the force in distributed
evenly around the egg. For example, an egg can be thrown like a baseball and sometimes the egg won

break but if it is evened out around the egg, the egg has a higher chance of not breaking. Along with
evening out the force, it will also benefit the egg if the impact is decreased with the help of outside
objects surrounding the egg. The structure should absorb and deflect the force of impact. The design
should lift the egg up allowing the structure around it to take some of the impact before it reaches the

Compensation Cases and Their Impact on China and Japan
History and the notion of compensation are two key aspects in the study of Sino Japanese relations.
During the 1980s, the opening up by the People s Republic of China s government about war atrocities
led a number of victims to seek reparations and apologies from Japan. Compensation cases were
brought forward from the 1990s and broke the silence about what had truly happened during the war.
Moreover, the rapid spread of new information about the past prompted increased tensions between
the two countries that had previously ignored the issue in order to privilege economic and diplomatic
cooperation. To date, the affiliation between China and Japan seems to have deteriorated significantly

rights of the victims and trying to force Japan into taking legal responsibility for its actions and it is

The creation of these Sino Japanese groups emphasizes the fact that the problem of compensation was
just as important for both sides and signified that the history issue hadn t been dealt with properly. The

actions (Tow, 2009 ). The involvement of academics and citizens were equally important as they too,
discovered compelling evidence incriminating Japan and organizations such as Suopei counting over

The Is A Popular Destination For Corporations
In 2012, Eaton Corporation, a global power company, acquired Ireland based Cooper Industries, an
electrical equipment supplier. Overall, this deal is expected to save Eaton $160 million in taxes by
2016. (Gilleard, 2012). With Corporate Inversions like this on the rise, it is projected that the United
States Treasury could lose up to $19.5 billion dollars over the next 10 years. ( Sloan,
Jeelani,Wahba,Casey Jones, 2014). After the merger of Eaton and Cooper, Eaton s 2013 effective tax
rate was only .6%. This was down from 2.5% in 2012 and 12.9% in 2011. According to Eaton s
Securities and Exchange Commission s filing, much of this decrease was due to their acquisition of
cooper (Drawbaugh, 2014). While corporate inversions are legal, we must ask ourselves if they are
ethical.
Ireland is a popular destination for corporations looking to invert. For one, while the U.S has a 35%
tax rate, Ireland only taxes corporations at 12.5%. However, corporate functions need to be located in
areas with good non tax advantages. Tax savings alone do not always justify the costs of inversion
(Marian, 2015). Corporations like Ireland because the country provides numerous non tax advantages
in addition to such a low corporate rate. For one, Ireland has a skilled workforce, with universities
pushing students towards science and engineering. Being a member of the European Union,
corporations headquartered in Ireland have access to over 500 million customers, as well as the

William Shakespeare s Richard II
Shakespeare s history plays are not his most popular plays, but through them Shakespeare comments
on a controversial topic in a Christian England: the belief of a divinely appointed king. Under the rule
of Richard II, a troubled England began to question loyalty to a flawed but rightful and divinely
appointed king. The presence of Bolingbroke, a strong, popular leader who seemed much more fit for
the crown than Richard II, furthered the country s lack of confidence in Richard II. In Shakespeare s
earliest history play Richard II, Richard II presents a weak but legitimate king who faces against the
strong warrior Bolingbroke who wants the crown, even though he would be an illegitimate king.

Many people in the play are aware of this, but Bolingbroke decides to act on it. He correctly accuses
the Thomas Mowbray and Richard II of killing the Duke of Gloucester, and Richard II has both
Bolingbroke and Mowbray banished. This is confusing because Mowbray followed the king s orders
to kill the Duke of Gloucester, and it is an important point to remember when comparing Henry IV to
Richard II. These early actions of Richard II portray him as a slimy, unjust king who typically does not
gain the audience s support. As the play continues, Richard II continues to fail at being a just king.
Through Bolingbroke s father, John of Gaunt, the audience discovers that Richard has spent all of
England s money and has been leasing out royal land. Gaunt dies while Bolingbroke is banished, and
Richard II neglects the fact that Bolingbroke is the legal heir to Gaunt s possessions and takes all of
Gaunt s land to fund his army. The Duke of York warns Richard II about this decision and tells him
that it is illegal, but Richard II is an arrogant king who thinks he can do what he wants since he is
divinely appointed. At this point in the play, Richard II is more unjust than he was at the beginning of
the play, and he has committed actions that make it easy for the audience to side with Bolingbroke. In
the beginning of the play, Bolingbroke takes the role as the voice of the people. He recognizes that
Richard II is a corrupt king, and he acts upon this

The Oppression Of Women In Today s Western Culture
There have been many unspoken agreements made in the past 250 or so years of western culture.
There s an understanding in our community that some things just are because they are, especially
when it concerns gender. In America, men don t wear makeup or dresses. Girls aren t supposed to be
doctors, athletes, or CEOs. And in western culture, it s the simple truth that the only genders that exist
are boy, and girl. There s basis behind some of it, but one of the only reasons that it s western

  • 2. Salem Witch Trials Paranoia Essay In the 1680 s and 1690 s there was mass hysteria in New England over supposed witchcraft. The most famous outbreak was in Salem, Massachusetts, hence the name Salem Witch Trials. In Salem, there were young girls who started acting strangely, and they leveled accusations of witchcraft against some of the West Indian servants who were immersed in voodoo tradition. Most of the accusations were against women, and soon the accusations started to shift to the substantial and prominent women. Neighbors accused other neighbors, husbands accused their wives, etc. and it kept going on for a while. There was this nature of evil and the trials didn t end until nineteen Salem residents were put to death in 1692, more importantly before the girls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The nature of evil was spread by Satan and the people that followed, which were witches. Acts of witchcraft was one of the greatest crimes a person could commit, that is punishable by death. When the group of girls were acting strange and got accused of being witches, everyone started pointing fingers. There was the paranoia that any person could be a part of a conspiracy that was created by the devil caused false accusations to be spread around. This paranoia was used to make false accusations on many innocent citizens because people were trying not to take the focus away from themselves. There was research that was done on those that were accused and what it showed was that most of the accusations were against middle age women who had few or no children and were widowed. The accused witches were of low social position, and because of some domestic conflicts, they were accused of other crimes and were considered abrasive (Brinkley, 86). by other people around them. Once a person was accused of being under the influence of the devil, which is a big offence, they would start to be treated differently from the rest. It wasn t the actual presence of Satan that caused this chaos, but the anxiety and fear of him that did. The Puritan society had very little tolerance to women who had independence and those who had come into possession of land and property on their own challenged the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Iago Is The Protagonist In Othello William Shakespeare s Othello is a remarkable tale of trust, deceitfulness, lust and the most destructive of human emotions: vengeance and hatred. Iago better known as Othello s antagonist embodies vengeance and hatred to move an agenda to squash all who oppose Iago s plans. As defined by Merrium Webster the definition of a protagonist is a principal character in a literary work or a leading actor, character, or participant in a literary work. Othello by Shakespeare is a play about Othello an example of a tragic hero with all figures centered around Othello as the protagonist yet, Othello has two main leading characters. Iago and Othello have stark contrasts as leading roles and different themes represented through the actions, words, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a masterful leading machiavellian character Iago exploits the flaw all characters poses in Othello which is faith versus doubt in others. A powerful role to mold an entire play behind the goal of a singular entity under the eyes of a scholar qualifies as a protagonist( Hull). Iago breaks the boundaries that define antagonist or protagonist by being complex enough and having enough lines that place him on par if not above Othello (West 42 ). The main flaw in the protagonist argument is how Iago is a static character without any clear transformation. Evidence from his lack of change exist in act one and to the final act is continuously lying and trying to create chaos. Antagonist or protagonist Iago s actions qualify as morally wrong when usually a protagonist that drives the plot is working for good; however, by definition a protagonist is not inertly of good moral code. ( Hull) Iago has an interesting set of flaws and advantages showing characteristics of a psychopath. Without flaws Iago would lose his humane characteristics and potentially lose the audiences interest ( West 13). Iago has no positive moral compass and an unexplained desire to destroy friend or foe even after the fact that Othello murders Desdemona qualifies the character as psychotic. Iago even recognizes his planning of evil actions to ruin Othello as simply a game Let us be conjunctive against him. If thou canst cuckold him, thou dost thyself a pleasure, me a sport. • 4. Review On The Original Argument Essay Parker Drowns Mr. Fitzgerald Political Science 28 September 2016 Book review of The Original Argument Bibliography Beck, Glenn, and Joshua Charles. The Original Argument: The Federalists Case for the Constitution, Adapted for the 21st Century. New York: Threshold Editions, 2011. Print. 398 pages Summary Instead of the Beck and Charles telling a story of a significant person to make a point the Authors discussed the original argument for the United States Constitution. The argument was originally written by the federalists in the late 18th century. These historical documents are commonly referred to as the federalist papers. Beck and Charles go over seven different topics and arguments discussed in the federalist papers. Part One: Novus ordo seclorum: A New Order For the Ages is all about the new way of thinking once the colonies declared independence from England. It discussed how new concepts were being introduced and why a new order was needed for that particular time. In fact Alexander Hamilton sounded a lot like Abraham Lincoln. • 6. The Fall By Albert Camus Albert Camus s absurdist novel The Fall deals with many overarching themes: justice, guilt, judgment, freedom, and power. One of the more understated themes is that of punishment, as Jean Baptiste Clamence is never formally punished. And yet, though the law does not condemn him, he still finds himself plagued by guilt and fear of judgment even after he claims to have found a solution. Camus shows, through symbolism and Clamence s own narration, that the lack of punishment is a burden for Clamence in his supposedly happy life. While speaking to his companion of his new lifestyle in Amsterdam, Jean Baptiste Clamence proclaims that he has discovered the secrets of the good life (Camus 144). He even insists, repeatedly, that he is happy, happy unto death (144). And yet Camus sprinkles hints all over the pages that this is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The water represents his guilt and his crimes, and yet, rather than escaping it, Clamence moves to a city of canals where he is constantly surrounded by water. This is not because the water doesn t affect him any longer; on the contrary, he still fears to cross bridges at night (15) and he admits that he forces himself to admire the canals (43). He outright acknowledges that the cry of the suicidal woman would continue to await me on seas and rivers, everywhere, in short, where lies the bitter waters of my baptism (108). These four measurements are simple ways to categorize different types of variables. This paper will discuss the usage of each scale. Nominal Nominal scales are the most commonly used in marketing research. Nominal scales are used for labeling variables, without any quantitative value. • 10. The Characteristics And Stereotypes Of Latinos El Bandido Reports show that Latinos are the most underrepresented ethnic group in film affected by stereotypical issues shown via pictures in our heads and through watching. I concur with this information as stereotype starts from a personal level, which is definite through meditation, this does not include all the negative traits portrayed by the out group. Although we have some general stereotypical agreements within in groups that cannot change. This stereotyping is evident in a case where a foreigner defines Bandido accurately while a (North) American will involve them with laziness, being dirty and all sorts of negativity on them. These findings make me feel that Latinos and Americans will always be contrary to their film industry. The stereotype on Latinos el Bandido is based not only on ethnic but also behavioral, where they are deemed violent and antisocial, different nationality, as in not belonging to the North America and psychological where they are associated with alcoholic, prostitution and being unstable. With this stereotype, Hollywood is seen as a perfect example of the filmmaking and professionalism, in a way this demeans the Latinos effort in the film. • 11. Parental Discipline And Child Abuse How many times have you had a conversation with someone about how you were raised? I can guarantee that at least one person mentioned that they were disciplined through punishments or maybe this person might actually be you. The person who was forced to deal with punishments as a child most likely became more disciplined earlier than everyone else and most likely still is. To be clear, the intended definition of punishments to be used is a penalization for committing an act that would be considered unacceptable in the eyes of the parent i.e swearing, fighting, being disrespectful, etc. This is also known as parental discipline. Although it may not seem like it there is a clear boundary separating parental discipline from child abuse. Parental discipline is intended for the betterment of the child, while child abuse is for the parent or guardian s sick, demented pleasure. This clarification allows discussion to begin concerning the main point. Even though it could be seen as abusive in the eyes of the public, parental discipline is necessary for a child to become more mature at an early age. Not only will this early maturity allow the child to develop a sense of right as well as becoming more of a selfless person, it also starts molding them into a productive member of society with their own set of responsibilities. The first reason for why parental discipline is necessary when raising a child, is that it makes a child grow up realizing that the world doesn t revolve around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This shows her naïve behavior, as she believes she can still enchain the prince s heart without her beautiful voice. Moreover, she has a strong desire of being a human being as the author said, I would give gladly all the hundreds of years that I have to live, to be a human being only for one day, and to have the hope of knowing the happiness of that glorious world above the stars (6). This shows her curiosity of being a human being for one day. Massengale demonstrates convincingly that the young fifteen year old protagonist has been strongly influenced by her grandmother. She learns that she must suffer to gain a position in the upper world and that she can never gain an immortal soul (Zipes 108). However, losing her voice means nothing as she becomes ignorant that she is not able express herself anymore. This is because Warner states the Little Mermaid sacrifices her song to no avail except for the story, which keeps faith with her memory. Her siren song condenses all inherited belief in women s sexual powers; the Little Mermaid surrenders them when she becomes bifurcated and bleeds, as if once the innocence of childhood has passed, that very sexuality turn against its possessor and makes the young woman ... In another essay, called The Advantages of Poverty, he provided insight into one of his motivations for philanthropy, by claiming wealthy philanthropists can find refuge from self questioning in the thought of the much greater portion of their means which is being spent on others. Carnegie also believed that when his mind was solely preoccupied with making the largest possible amount of money as quickly as possible, he was degrad[ing himself] beyond hope of permanent recovery. Carnegie was particularly interested in giving libraries to various towns, but this quickly became a business like gift. First, there was an application process the town had to go through. Then, only gifting the building of the library, Carnegie would demand that the town collect taxes to pay for the books and maintain the library (which usually cost every year about 10% of the amount of money Carnegie donated). However, Carnegie s library giving had a pattern. After he broke up the union in Braddock, he gifted that town a library. In a response to a letter from Homestead asking for a gift, he replied if Homestead would only do something for him, he would be pleased to build a library there. The Reaction Of Polymerase Chain Reaction Polymerase Chain Reaction: Polymerase chain reaction, also known as PCR, a technology that has made a tremendous impact on researchers, and has also affected many aspects of our everyday lives. The introduction of recombinant DNA technology has revolutionized the study of life as a tool for the biological sciences. Molecular cloning allowed the study of individual genes of living organisms; however there was dependence of obtaining a relatively large quantity of pure DNA. Scientists found it extremely difficult to get a specific DNA in quantity from the mass of genes present in a biological sample. A technique that amplifies DNA through a simple enzymatic reaction, was developed by Karry Mullis at that time which enabled scientists to make millions or even billions of copies of a DNA molecule in a very short time. PCR is a quick, less expensive and a very simple way of copying a specific DNA fragments from minute quantities of source DNA material, even if the source DNA is of relatively poor quality. Reasons for the amplification of DNA. 1) To create multiple copies of a portion of DNA which is very rare. For example a forensic scientist may need to amplify a small fragment of DNA from a crime scene or a parenting test. 2) To compare two different samples of DNA to know which one is more abundant. She tells Chris that she never went to college, her sister is a drug addict, her father left her family early, and that her mother, also an alcoholic, had to take care of the family, but could not hold any job. For example, an egg can be thrown like a baseball and sometimes the egg won t break if it lands from a high toss into grass. When the force of an egg is focused at one point it will break but if it is evened out around the egg, the egg has a higher chance of not breaking. Along with evening out the force, it will also benefit the egg if the impact is decreased with the help of outside objects surrounding the egg. During the 1980s, the opening up by the People s Republic of China s government about war atrocities led a number of victims to seek reparations and apologies from Japan. Compensation cases were brought forward from the 1990s and broke the silence about what had truly happened during the war. William Shakespeare s Richard II Shakespeare s history plays are not his most popular plays, but through them Shakespeare comments on a controversial topic in a Christian England: the belief of a divinely appointed king. Under the rule of Richard II, a troubled England began to question loyalty to a flawed but rightful and divinely appointed king. The presence of Bolingbroke, a strong, popular leader who seemed much more fit for the crown than Richard II, furthered the country s lack of confidence in Richard II. He correctly accuses the Thomas Mowbray and Richard II of killing the Duke of Gloucester, and Richard II has both Bolingbroke and Mowbray banished. This is confusing because Mowbray followed the king s orders to kill the Duke of Gloucester, and it is an important point to remember when comparing Henry IV to Richard II. These early actions of Richard II portray him as a slimy, unjust king who typically does not gain the audience s support. As the play continues, Richard II continues to fail at being a just king. Through Bolingbroke s father, John of Gaunt, the audience discovers that Richard has spent all of England s money and has been leasing out royal land. Gaunt dies while Bolingbroke is banished, and Richard II neglects the fact that Bolingbroke is the legal heir to Gaunt s possessions and takes all of Gaunt s land to fund his army. The Duke of York warns Richard II about this decision and tells him that it is illegal, but Richard II is an arrogant king who thinks he can do what he wants since he is divinely appointed. At this point in the play, Richard II is more unjust than he was at the beginning of the play, and he has committed actions that make it easy for the audience to side with Bolingbroke.
