Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mutual Fund
1.1 Introduction of financial market:
High return and high risk are correlated to each other and the same can be applied in financial market.
In financial matters, the term market implies the total of purchasers and vendors and the exchanges
between them. A financial market is a market where the participant s sale and purchase financial
securities, commodities and other negotiable items of value at a pre determined price derived from
demand and supply mechanism.
Figure.1.1: Financial Market Components
The financial markets have basically two major components:
1) Capital market
2) Money market.

Every investment company appoints a fund manager who invests the money in different investment
opportunities. These could run from shares to debentures to currency market instruments, contingent
on the plan s expressed targets. The income earned through these investments and the capital
appreciation acknowledged by the plan is shared by its unit holders in extent to the quantity of units
claimed by them. Therefore a Mutual Fund is the most appropriate investment for the investor as it
offers a chance to put resources into an enhanced, professionally managed basket of securities at a
moderately low cost. Mutual fund schemes are offered on the basis of structure and investment
objectives.
a) Structure based schemes:
i) Open Ended Schemes: These schemes do not have a fixed maturity period. Under this an investor
can buy and sell the units at any point of time. The main feature of this scheme is liquidity which
enables the investor to invest and redeem units at any point of time in the scheme. ii) Close Ended
Schemes: The schemes have a fixed maturity of say 2 to 15 years. One can directly buy the investment
in the scheme at the time of issue and thereafter sell the units of the scheme on the stock exchange
where they are listed. The units of these scheme were redeemed at NAV (Net Asset

Non Traditional College Student Research Paper
A college student is either a teen, straight out of high school who attends an institution of higher
learning or the non traditional student who is anyone else. In order to survive the pressures facing both
the traditional and non traditional student, they all need to be a combination of a rugged workhorse
and a happy go lucky fun seeker. Whether traditional or non traditional, a large percentage of college
students are pursuing a full time course load and are trying to get an education so that they can get into
a good profession and/or a good paying job. Many are working full time and are pursuing an
education part time, and many are working part time while in school full time. Walk into any food

Reflective Summary Of Physical Therapy Course
Courses I Teach
I have been involved with both traditional didactic courses as well as supervision of students during
their clinical instruction or Applied Physical Therapy, clinical placements (see Artifact XI.A). My role
(i.e. as a course coordinator, course instructor or lab instructor) has varied within my teaching load
and between academic years due to redistribution of workload and to accommodate staffing changes
within the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. My role in each course has therefore been identified
in my listing of courses taught. Below is a summary of the courses in which I am involved.

The Influence Of Roosevelt s New Deal
Success is a term that can be used in many different ways. In this case, it is stating the fact of if the
new deal helped the Great Depression and the economic drought that we were in, then it was a
success. The New Deal was a series of programs created by Franklin Delano Roosevelt designed to
help the economy. The Great Depression lasted from 1929 1939. It began with the great stock market
crash on October 27. It was the greatest economic depression the United States had ever experienced.
President Roosevelt did his best to fix the issues. After analyzing multiple primary sources it is shown
that it can be pulled both ways to whether it was a success or not. The New Deal created by the 32nd
president of the U.S was more of a failure than a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People expressed their feelings or thoughts of the great depression in many different ways including
that of songs or speeches. Many songs included lyrics that symbolized wanting freedom to a place that
was not suffering. Reading the lyrics of No Depression in Heaven by The Carter Family hinted some
of the troubles that our nation was dealing with. Within the lyrics they stated that In that bright land
there ll be no hunger, no orphan children crying for bread, no weeping widows toil or struggle, no
shrouds, no coffins, and no dead . They would like to go to a place with no depression. Some would
say hope played a big factor during this time period, but hope could not be upheld if the goal is not
reached. This New Deal never ended the economic drought that the U.S was stuck in. Many programs
such as the Agriculture Adjustment Administration grew taxes and led to more starvation. Farmers
killed off certain animals and crops as they were told to by the AAA. Many could not believe that the
federal government was condoning such an action when many Americans were starving . Although
there was a counter to this issue. The WPA did provide meals for hungry children. In the past year and
a half 80,000,000 hot well balanced meals have been served at the rate of 500,000 daily in 10,00
schools throughout the country ( Woodward 4). This may have helped, but the hunger caused by the
AAA could not be balanced by this act.No hope could bring the U.S back from what it had

Assisted Suicide Debate Analysis
As the political debates are in full action, I am certainly aware of the discussion of controversial
topics. Although assisted suicide is not among the topics, however I do understand the difficulties of
addressing sensitive topics. The following assignment is a reflection on Helping a Suicide When the
End Isn t Near. First, I ll introduce the debaters as well as their background and position on this
controversial topic. Next, I will address my view and rationale pertaining to the topic.
An opinionated article, Helping a Suicide When the End Isn t Near, published by the New York Times
includes segments from both Mark Kleiman and Ira Byock who share their opinions on whether or not
assisted suicide should be legal in the United States. Kleiman, who insist that laws prohibiting assisted
suicide must be erased, is a professor of public policy at New York University s Marron Institute of
Urban Management, whereas Byock, who is completely opposed to any law change, is a professor of
medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. Kleiman and Byock have
compelling, but opposing viewpoints on this controversial subject, and each rule the other to be highly
unethical.
In the article, Kleiman states his belief that laws prevent people who need help in dying ... Show more

After reviewing both segments between the debaters, It s hard to definitively state whether I support or
oppose the legalization of assisted suicide. With that being said, I see both sides of the argument,
however, if put on a spectrum, I lean more towards the support of assisted suicide. I believe if the
patient is competent as well as the one who has requested to take this course of action, it certainly can
be justified. In addition, I personally believe in quality of life, not longevity. There are many incurable
diseases out there, making people s life intolerable, stealing their sense of life and giving a strong
incentive to

Monica Ferrell s Of The Irresoubleness Of Diamonds
Monica Ferrell s, Of the Irresoubleness of Diamonds, Harmless, As Recalled by a Fairy Tale, Gerburt

attributive adjectives, finite verb strings, non finite verb strings, active voice and the known new
contract throughout her poems. By incorporating these grammatical issues into her work, Ferrell
intends to develop a clear and sharp image to ignite the imagination of her readers. The poems Of the

Active voice describes the sentences where the action or verb is occurring from the subject.
Furthermore, there are three examples of Ferrell as she uses several examples of active voice
throughout her poems. Ferrell begins her poem, Harmless as Recalled by a Fairy Tale by recalling ,
After our rendez vous this is the last word he said, waving to me as the train pulled away from the
station (1 2), in this sentence the active voice she is conveying is through the word waving. In this
sentence the subject is the train and the action being done is waving. In another example of her poem
of, Harmless as Recalled by a Fairy Tale , she vindicates, Hunting out clues, I went over the roses and
snows of his departed face like a treasure map, over ( 15 16), in this sentence the word she uses to
convey active voice is through the word hunting. In this sentence she describes how as she was
departed from her lover, her world had come crashing down and sets out a mysterious tone for the
poem. In addition to the example of an active voice is in her poem Gerburt des Monica kinds when
she asserts, I was the actor who forgets his lines and enters on stage suddenly wanting to stay, I am ( 5

Essay On Pollution In Textile Mill
Research
Pollution
Most processes performed in textile mills produce atmospheric emissions. Gaseous emissions have
been identified as the second greatest pollution problem (after effluent quality) for the textile industry.
Speculation concerning the amounts and types of air pollutants emitted from textile operations has
been widespread but, generally, air emission data for textile manufacturing operations are not readily
available. Air pollution is the most difficult type of pollution to sample, test, and quantify in an audit.
Air emissions can be classified according to the nature of their sources:
Point sources:
Boilers
Ovens
Storage tanks
Diffusive:
Solvent based
Wastewater treatment
Warehouses
Spills
Textile mills usually generate nitrogen and sulphur oxides from boilers. Other significant sources of
air emissions in textile operations include resin finishing and drying operations, printing, dyeing,
fabric preparation, and wastewater treatment plants. Hydrocarbons are emitted from drying ovens and
from mineral oils in high temperature drying/curing. These processes can emit formaldehyde, acids,
softeners, and other volatile compounds.
Residues from fibre preparation sometimes emit pollutants during heat setting processes. Carriers and
solvents may be emitted during dyeing operations depending on the types of dyeing processes used
and from wastewater treatment plant operations. Carriers used in batch dyeing of disperse dyes may
lead to

City Life Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1 of experiencing cities was all about the foundations of the constantly growing metropolitan
city. It includes everything from facts about how fast our cities are growing to city as a state of mind.
But the section that intrigued me the most was symbolic interactionism and the study of city life.
symbolic interactivity means that people are the ones who play an active role in their environment. In
other words the area you live in is going to be determined by the way you interact with others and how
you live your life. This idea was not one that shocked me but allowed me to grasp a greater
understanding as to why different cities are the way they are. For example, i m from a small town in
California with little to no crime. It is a pretty affluent area and people are pretty friendly. However
you drive about 30 miles and you are now in one of the most dangerous cities in america, Oakland
California. Here deadly shootings are a regular basis along with many other crimes. The citizens of
these towns are usually right at the or below the poverty line. So to introduce this theory to me gives
me a greater understanding as to why certain cities are dangerous and some aren t. It simply ... Show

the fact that the people in charge simply cannot do their job effectively. In order for a city like this to
get back on track it must first get leadership willing to do what it takes to make a difference. Then and
only then will you start to see this city make a turn for the

Tim Burton Techniques
From films such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to The Corpse Bride, director Tim Burton has
charmed millions with his unique style and techniques. Tim Burton uses low key lighting and non
diegetic sound in order to fluctuate the emotions, perspectives of the character, situations, and mood in
order to show his audience that everyone is different in their own special way.
To begin, Tim Burton uses low key lighting to manipulate different emotions within the audience and
create suspense. In Burton s film The Corpse Bride, when Victor is walking through the forest,
repeating his vows over and over again, the lowkey lighting in the background creates creepy shadows
making the forest look more threatening and intimidating. Later in the movie, ... Show more content

In Burton s film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he uses non diegetic sound when Willy Wonka is
walking the children and their parents into the edible room. Burton uses non diegetic sound to show
the different perspectives of each one of the children and their reaction to the room but it also changes
the mood of the story. By using the orchestral music, Tim Burton is able to show the children and their
parents thoughts and emotions.Burton allows the audience to get a deeper understanding of the
characters. Another film that buron uses non diegetic sounds in is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
In the scene as Victor rehearses his vows, the music is proud and triumphant, but when Victor places
the ring, unknowingly, on the bride s figure the music changes to a dark and frantic soundtrack, which
changes the mood of the crowd from being happy for Victor to being scared for him as he runs away
from the bride. By changing the music as the scenes change, Burton is able to fluctuate the mood of
the setting for the audience. Burton also is able to portray that Victor s mood is also changing. In
addition to allowing the audience to gain a better understanding of the characters, Burton uses non
diegetic sounds to foreshadow the events that are about to happen, such as when the music changes
suddenly to frantic music the viewers can predict that something bad is

Religion And Its Influence On Religion
Religion Influencing Kingship
Religion and the influence it has on kingship has fascinated scholars in fields such as history and
religious studies. Kingship has been influenced by the use of religion for the purpose of legitimizing
power, keeping promises to its people, and finding reason for life. Religious influence on kingship
seems to be an almost universal concept in human history. The acceptance of religion has changed
many kings lives, for the better. All throughout history, religion has expressed the answer to our
deepest questions that we ask. It has been dedicated to be centrally place in the lives of all civilizations
and cultures. Religion had a great influence on how Ashoka, Clovis and Charlemagne ruled their
people.
Ashoka was born in the year 304 BC to a military family who did not practice religion. After a civil
war in India, the warrior Ashoka became the third emperor of the powerful Mauryan dynasty. Emperor
Ahsoka was soon to gain the reputation of being a very cruel and evil emperor. He began his reign by
dedicating to expand the empire that already had been established. In the year 263 BC Ahsoka
conquered the Kalinga nation and soon he ruled a sizeable portion of India. But in the process of
conquering the Kalinga nation, Ashoka shamelessly killed roughly 200,000 people during the Kalinga
Battle. After living with such regret and remorse for the huge amount of lost life, he decided to turn to
religion. The Rock Edicts of King Ashoka Excerpts

Turning rocket Into Success
For most of Homer Sonny Hickam s life, he worried about what his dad thought about him and didn t
want to disappoint him. His father would have like him to be a mining engineer in the Coalwood
mine, but Sonny had his own dreams. Even though his father had high expectations of him, he let his
dreams take hold of his life and transform him for the better. In the book, October Sky, the main theme
that doing something people are passionate about can transform them, is prevalent throughout the
entire book, especially with the change that Sonny goes through building his rockets. In the real world,
hard work and persistence will bear results in more than just someone s work, but also in their
character.
Doing something you are passionate about is one of the many things that can transform a person. This
is illustrated in the book by Sonny s father Homer. I m going to show you first hand what an engineer

Charlotte Beers Case Summary
BACKGROUND
Charlotte Beers became Ogilvy Mather s first outsider CEO after its acquisition by WPP Group Plc in
1991. According to her memo dated May 19th, Beers objective was to re invent the mega agency,
whose inertia and complacency had eroded its competitiveness since the 1980s. In fact, Beer s tenure
at Ogilvy constituted a re creation of the agency, redefining its aims, processes, people, and structure
in reaction to the demands placed by the changing advertising industry.
ANALYSIS
The main issue that confronted Beers was initiating and instituting organizational change at the core
level. She assumed the leadership of Ogilvy at a time when the organization was internally bleeding.

HOW CHARLOTTE BEERS LEADERSHIP CREATED STRATEGIC CHANGE
Ogilvy s insiders quickly perceived a presence and ability to inspire in Beers that they had not found
in the firm s four previous CEOs. Despite the company s typical rejection of outsiders, Beers known
passionate interest in the philosophy of marketing, and her pride in the Ogilvy brand made many
executives receptive to her leadership. Since no one makes change happen alone, the charisma she
inspired was crucial for Beers to initiate the process of change. It was the magic leadership that O M
had not seen since David Ogilvy left.
Beers quickly exploited her charisma by instituting a process that conformed to Beer, Eisenstat
Spector s model for effective organizational change. First, Beers immediately mobilized commitment
to change through her videotaped appeal to all 7,000 Ogilvy employees, as well as in one on one
meetings with executives. In addition, Beers gained valuable perspective by meeting with 50 clients in
6 months. In each instance, Beers relied on her charisma to coax shared expectations and dreams from
internal and external stakeholders. Clearly, by asking each group what they can accomplish together,
Beers sought a shared vision of how Ogilvy could organize and manage for competitiveness. Her
rallying point: Brand Stewardship.

Mobile Banking for the Unbanked
In many developing countries it s common for a person to have a mobile phone but not a bank
account. In fact, more than 1 billion people fit this description, and the number is only likely to
increase. To that end, many companies are considering how to give residents access to banking
services via their handsets. The GSM Association predicts that by 2012, nearly 300 million of the
previously unbanked will be using some form of mobile banking. The mistake a lot of us make is to
look at the folks at the base of the pyramid and assume that they must need the same types of services
we need. The Harvard Business School case study Mobile Banking for the Unbanked explores two

banks, understandably, were not eager to serve a moneyless customer base. Banks find it an
unprofitable proposition to serve people who make less than three dollars per day, Rangan says. Still,
WIZZIT s founders thought there was a noble and viable business model in bringing banking to the

succeeded in finding an engineer to develop the platform, but quickly ran into a major regulatory

cost of a license was the equivalent of $34 million a hefty fee for a startup and the South African

On March 21, 1924, the National Urban League, spearheaded by Charles Johnson, held a dinner to
introduce new literary talent to New York City s black community. This dinner party resulted in the
Survey Graphic, a magazine whose attention was upon social and cultural pluralism, to publish a
special Harlem edition, which would feature the works of Harlem s black writers and was to be edited
by Alain Locke. Locke, a literary scholar, black philosopher, professor and authority on black culture,
later expanded the Harlem special edition of the Survey Graphic into and anthology he titled The New

At the age of three John Hurston moved the family to Eatonville, where he would become mayor of

death of her mother in 1904, which led the young Zora Neale Hurston away from the halls of

OVERVIEW PURPOSE
Technology is fluid; constantly changing and improving the way society functions and communicates
with one another. The importance of implementing technology in an academic setting is crucial due to
the modern world being a highly technological economy. Cell phones, computers, ipads, and other
technological instruments have made its way into almost every industry, including the education field,
and will only continue to increase. With a technological device in hand, students are broadening their
learning by being more creative, imaginative, and further engaging their cognitive thinking as opposed
to being restricted to writing with paper and pencil. Statistics show that students that interact with

Essay On The Crusades
The word crusade is from a French term that mean to lift the cross. The word is used to describe the
early military War or the campaigns by early Christians against Muslims. The Crusades were military
campaigns sanctioned by the Roman Catholic Church during the High and Late Medieval Ages. In
The year 1095, Pope Urban the Second proclaimed the First Crusade with the goal of restoring
Christian admission to holy places in and Around Jerusalem. Following this First Crusade there was
an alternating over 100 years struggle for dominance over the Holy Land, with seven more major
crusades and numerous minor ones, These Muslims controlled the holy land (currently they are
Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon and Israel) subsequently (Slack in 2003) and Christian all around Europe
believed that they would go to heaven when they die Fighting over the Holy Land. Some
historiographers see the Crusades as assertive, hostile, un lawful expansion efforts by European
Christians, some see them as part of No cease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, the Host (Turks) had completely overwhelmed the crusaders in only three different clashes
as their reaction to the barbarism of the initial crusade. Later by 1187, Muslims finally unified under
Saladin, after several years of fighting among themselves. This generated a single Muslim state that
was very commanding. Saladin overthrew the crusaders easily and seized back Jerusalem in
September that year by cracking open the walls. The Saladin victory of the war were a shocking to the
whole of Europe. After getting the news on losing Jerusalem, Pope Urban III was said to have
allegedly died of a heart attack. The seventh crusade happened in the summer of the year 1244, where
a Khwarezmian army surpassed and captured Jerusalem. They allied with France s army and they
managed to use their joint forces but were overpowered in less than two days of

The Push for Environmental Justice Essay
Every movement has its pros and its cons, and environmental justice is no different. The term
environmental justice emerged in the 1980 s, but the movement started as early as the 1970 s. Of
course, the want for environmental justice has always been there. All throughout history justice has
been sought after, and environmental justice is just half of it. Politics and the economy are extreme
factors to where and whom environmental injustice effect. Developing countries, such as Egypt, are
extremely high in environmental injustice, due to the extreme poverty. The reasons people create and
oppose environmental injustice are understandable, yet debatable for both sides. Some feel
environmental injustice is growing so prominent that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Places of poverty, such as the Al Kheima district of Cairo, Egypt, are bustling with the growth of
major corporations spewing harmful chemicals throughout the district and infecting many with
ailment. It was said by Frederick Douglass that, Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced,
where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is in organized
conspiracy to oppress, rob, and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe. This statement
speaks for the justice portion of environmental injustice and is a common thought of all environmental
activists. Knowing the benefits and ailments many have gone further into creating environmental
justice. To prevent environmental injustice, and to receive justice for all, many activists and
government officials around the globe have made actions to stop environmental injustice. After
residents located near the Love Canal toxic waste dump in Niagara Falls, New York, were notified of
eighty eight harmful chemicals migrated near them, they ordered the state relocate them. After the
state s government refused the community members held protests for an evacuation, eventually
leading to President Jimmy Carter relocating the community. The infamous Love Canal incident led to
the Superfund Act in 1980. This law created a tax on the chemical and petroleum industries and

Atticus Finch Courage Research Paper
Lucas Tomaselli
Honors English I
Courage
The word courage heroically pervades all aspects of life whether it is in a movie, book, video game, or
real world incident. Courage is when someone or something stands up for their beliefs despite any
intimidation or danger that may face them in the process. A person of this merit never puts another in
harms way in order to protect him or herself. In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mocking Bird, Atticus Finch
displays valor more than any of the surrounding characters. His courage was one that reminded me of
a brave man who stood up for equality and people of all races during the 1960 s. His name was Martin
Luther King Jr. and he had a positive impact on society just as Mr. Finch did. Atticus finch displays ...

both exhibited the noblest type of courage: acting out to support their idea of what was right regardless
of the consequences. The men were hated and threatened their fair share, but kept on supporting their
ideas. Atticus supports Tom Robinson because he believes that as a man, there is no other option. He
feels it is duty to do what her can to save a life and if he does not act than it would be the same as
convicting Tom Robinson himself. This case, Tom Robinson s case, is something that goes to the
essence of a man s conscience Scout, I couldn t go to church and worship God if I didn t try to help
that man. (Lee 145). However, Martin Luther King Jr. protested for a slightly different reason. His
goal was to unite the people of a single nation that was driven apart by racism. The two men were both
very influential speakers and could use their words to connect to audiences throughout the pathos of
their speeches. Another similarity between Atticus and King is that they both stood up against racism
regardless of the fact that it put both of them at great risk. Neither man believed in using violence.
Martin Luther King Jr. exhibits this through his non violent protests, and Atticus through his words
and actions. I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man
with a gun in his hand. It s when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and
you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. (Lee 149). Atticus was
teaching his children that real courage is not just blind violence, but it is finishing what you start and
doing what you believe in, even if others do not

Worth noticing is how Toyota outperforms most competitors until 2009 when they instead showed the
poorest operating margin. For all compared companies, 2009 is the worst year and only VW and
BMW are able to generate a positive OM. Operating Margin | 2004 | 2005 | 2006 | 2007 | 2008 | 2009 |

When comparing the Inventory Turnover, Toyota is outstanding in its performance just as known to
be. BMW had the second highest inventory turnover in 2009, which has improved continuously
throughout the measured time (worst in 2004). For Daimler and Volkswagen the trend is instead
negative.

Oligopoly
This paper will focus on the behaviour of oligopolists and the situations they are confronted with in
their daily business.
The paper is divided in three parts. The first part explains the basic keywords. The second part tries to
explain the nice and the sad sides of an oligopolist, and will discuss the consequences of their
behaviour.
As well, I will try to examine the statement being an oligopolist is not easy , and whether it is true or
whether the truth lies in between.
Aspects of Market Structure
The four types of market structure are listed in the drawing below:
Characteristics of an oligopoly

An oligopoly is a form of economy. Using the four firm concentration ration, an oligopoly is defined
as a market in which the four firm concentration ratio is above 40% according to Wikipedia.
In more general terms, a way of measuring market share is to look at the concentration ratio (CRN):
The N firm concentration ratio is the percentage of market output generated by the N largest firms in
the industry. We already covered the most used CR4 percentage of sales of the 4 top firms in the
industry.
One measure of this ratio is the 5 firms concentration ratio which shows the market share of the 5
largest companies.
Normally an oligopoly exists when the top five firms in the market account for more than 60% of total
market demand/sales. Relating to the index featured above, the market share for standard and
emissions´ test remained approximately at over
98,76 % for the 5 top market players ( Dekra, TÜV, GTÜ, KÜS, FSP), so the company in which I
work is an oligopolist.
Oligopolical games as a Prisoners Dilemma
For understanding the function of oligopoly games, we need to define the game of prisoners´ dilemma.
It is a game between two captured prisoners that illustrates why cooperation is difficult to maintain
even when it is mutually beneficial.
The oligopoly game is based on the prisoners´ dilemma. It turns out that the game oligopolists play in
trying to reach the monopoly outcome is similar to the

Kingsman The Secret Service Analysis
I ve always been drawn towards philosophical issues. For example, is civilization a part of nature?
Well, one answer may come from a recent film that has unsettled me in this topic. In Kingsman: The
Secret Service, the character Valentine calls humans a virus and the Earth the host. He concludes that
the host kills the virus, or the virus kills the host. I disagree with Valentine, and here is why. When
most people hear the word nature, they do not think of a thriving metropolitan city. But I do. This is
because I think of civilized cities as ecosystems just as rainforests or the Coral Reefs are thought of.
Think of it this way: Buildings are like trees; they provide shelter and shade. Sewers are like aquifers;
they transport water for everyone.

Iceland Is The Best Country
Finding the perfect place to live can be difficult, however your search can come to an end simply by
looking at a different country, Iceland. The best country to live in is Iceland because of how safe it is
and the natural beauty of the whole country. Iceland is located between the coast of Greenland and
Norway. Iceland has a population of around 323,000 citizens; most of the population lives in or
around their capital. There are a couple specific factors, based on practicality and aesthetics, on why
Iceland is known for the best country in the world. The first main factor of why Iceland is the best
country to live is based on the practicality, Iceland is the safest country throughout the world (Morin).
There are two main reasons that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between how the citizens act to their comfort zones to the statistics on the homicide rates, there is still
the popular topic about guns and how they cause violence all over. In Iceland more than a third of the
population has a fire arm, and even though that is a majority of the population when a crime does
happen in Iceland it is not due to the fire arms (Llana). Iceland has strict restrictions on who is allowed
to carry, and those who are eligible have to go through several tests. Gun control is just one example
of how Iceland is using rules and restrictions on issues that could turn in to a problem. By taking the
issues at hand before they become a problem, they are thinking practical to prevent their country from
violence and crime making their country the safest in the world. The second factor that makes Iceland
the safest is militarism, which is the level of the military. Iceland military is different than some other
countries, it has no standing military force ( CIA ?). Even though the country does not have a standing
military, they are still apart of the NATO, North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This helps protect their
country from war and other terrorist attaches, they can lean on the coastguard if they need to (Morin).
Most would think that with no military that the country would fall apart and be in war all the time, but
with the way that Iceland runs their country that does

CASE 46 Making Socially Responsible and Ethical
Strategic decisions move a company toward its stated goals and perceived success. Strategic decisions
also reflect the firm s social responsibility and the ethical values on which such decisions are made.
They reflect what is considered important and what a company wants to achieve. Mark Pastin, writing
on the function of ethics in business decisions, observes: There are fundamental principles, or ground
rules, by which organizations act. Like the ground rules of individuals, organizational ground rules
determine which actions are possible for the organization and what the actions mean. Buried beneath

ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION
In Gambia, smokers send in cigarette box tops to qualify for a chance to win a new car. In Argentina,
smoking commercials fill 20 percent of television advertising time. And in crowded African cities,
billboards that link smoking to the good life tower above the sweltering shantytowns. Such things as
baby clothes with cigarette logos, health warnings printed in foreign languages, and tobaccosponsored
contests for children are often featured in tobacco ads in Third World countries. Latin American
tobacco consumption rose by more than 24 percent over a ten year period. Critics claim that
sophisticated promotions in unsophisticated societies entice people who cannot afford the necessities
of life to spend money on a luxury and a dangerous one at that. The sophistication theme runs
throughout the smoking ads. In Kinshasa, Zaire, billboards depict a man in a business suit stepping out
of a black Mercedes as a chauffeur holds the door. In Nigeria, promotions for Graduate brand
cigarettes show a university student in his cap and gown. Those for Gold Leaf cigarettes have a
barrister in a white wig and the slogan, A very important cigarette for very important people. In
Kenya, a magazine ad for Embassy cigarettes

Goldman Sachs Case Study
1. Why Goldman Sachs Needs a Systematic Approach
Historically, Goldman Sachs (GS) has been known for its high end performance and reputation as one
of the top investment banking firms in the U.S. Placing its customers interests as the first business
principle (Groysberg and Snook, 2005, p. 16), GS takes pride in the high quality work and heavy
teamwork culture in order to execute the best in class financial services. As a small firm, GS relies on
its apprenticeship model, where a new manager will informally learn the job and leadership from an
experienced leader (Groysberg and Snook, 2005, p. 7). However, the booming of financial service
opportunities, the introduction of the High Tech industry, and the global expansion of the firms in the
1990s reveals that there is a discrepancy in GS s mentorship model and the business goals of the firm.
Consequently, GS should consider supplementing the current training method with a more systematic
approach to leadership development to prepare its leaders for the changing business contexts.
1.1 Competitive Investment Banking Service
From 1990 to 1999, the continuous bull market and the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of many private
firms promote the growth of investment banking business. Since the larger resources mean higher
competitiveness for the banks (Groysberg and Snook, 2005, p. 2), many financial service firms are
consolidating to increase their competitive advantages. GS s reputation requires the company to

Who Is Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
The film Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close written by Eric Roth is centered around the events that
happened on 9/11. The film follows a young boy named Oskar, who lost his beloved father in the
attacks. He finds a key in his father s closet and ventures out into the city to find who it belongs to.
During this adventure Oskar attempts to find closure and shows his true emotions. The title Extremely
Loud and Incredibly Close is used to represent how close Oskar was to finding the owner of the key,
Oskar s relationship with his father, as well as Oskar s emotional state during the film.
Incredibly close is used to describe how close Oskar was to finding what the key he found in his father
s closet belong to. Soon after Oskar finds the key he is in a way forced by his Asperger s syndrome to
find who or what the key belongs to because he cannot handle anything not having an answer. The
envelope he found the key in had the name Black written on it, so Oskar made it his mission to find
every person with the last name Black in New York and go visit them to inquire about key. The first
place Oskar ended up going was to the house of Abby Black, who similar to him was going through a
tough time. He asked her about the key, but she said it was not hers and did not know what it belonged
to. He talks to her in order to comfort her and as he is doing this William Black walks by. This is not
significant at the time but it is later learned that the key does indeed belong to William

A financial market is a market where the participant s sale and purchase financial securities, commodities and other negotiable items of value at a pre determined price derived from demand and supply mechanism. Every investment company appoints a fund manager who invests the money in different investment opportunities. These could run from shares to debentures to currency market instruments, contingent on the plan s expressed targets. The income earned through these investments and the capital appreciation acknowledged by the plan is shared by its unit holders in extent to the quantity of units claimed by them. Therefore a Mutual Fund is the most appropriate investment for the investor as it offers a chance to put resources into an enhanced, professionally managed basket of securities at a moderately low cost. Mutual fund schemes are offered on the basis of structure and investment objectives. a) Structure based schemes: i) Open Ended Schemes: These schemes do not have a fixed maturity period. Under this an investor can buy and sell the units at any point of time. The main feature of this scheme is liquidity which enables the investor to invest and redeem units at any point of time in the scheme. ii) Close Ended Schemes: The schemes have a fixed maturity of say 2 to 15 years. One can directly buy the investment in the scheme at the time of issue and thereafter sell the units of the scheme on the stock exchange where they are listed. • 5. The Influence Of Roosevelt s New Deal Success is a term that can be used in many different ways. In this case, it is stating the fact of if the new deal helped the Great Depression and the economic drought that we were in, then it was a success. The New Deal was a series of programs created by Franklin Delano Roosevelt designed to help the economy. The Great Depression lasted from 1929 1939. It began with the great stock market crash on October 27. It was the greatest economic depression the United States had ever experienced. President Roosevelt did his best to fix the issues. After analyzing multiple primary sources it is shown that it can be pulled both ways to whether it was a success or not. The New Deal created by the 32nd president of the U.S was more of a failure than a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People expressed their feelings or thoughts of the great depression in many different ways including that of songs or speeches. Many songs included lyrics that symbolized wanting freedom to a place that was not suffering. Reading the lyrics of No Depression in Heaven by The Carter Family hinted some of the troubles that our nation was dealing with. Within the lyrics they stated that In that bright land there ll be no hunger, no orphan children crying for bread, no weeping widows toil or struggle, no shrouds, no coffins, and no dead . They would like to go to a place with no depression. Some would say hope played a big factor during this time period, but hope could not be upheld if the goal is not reached. This New Deal never ended the economic drought that the U.S was stuck in. Many programs such as the Agriculture Adjustment Administration grew taxes and led to more starvation. Farmers killed off certain animals and crops as they were told to by the AAA. Many could not believe that the federal government was condoning such an action when many Americans were starving . Although there was a counter to this issue. The WPA did provide meals for hungry children. In the past year and a half 80,000,000 hot well balanced meals have been served at the rate of 500,000 daily in 10,00 schools throughout the country ( Woodward 4). This may have helped, but the hunger caused by the AAA could not be balanced by this act.No hope could bring the U.S back from what it had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Assisted Suicide Debate Analysis As the political debates are in full action, I am certainly aware of the discussion of controversial topics. Although assisted suicide is not among the topics, however I do understand the difficulties of addressing sensitive topics. The following assignment is a reflection on Helping a Suicide When the End Isn t Near. First, I ll introduce the debaters as well as their background and position on this controversial topic. Next, I will address my view and rationale pertaining to the topic. An opinionated article, Helping a Suicide When the End Isn t Near, published by the New York Times includes segments from both Mark Kleiman and Ira Byock who share their opinions on whether or not assisted suicide should be legal in the United States. Kleiman, who insist that laws prohibiting assisted suicide must be erased, is a professor of public policy at New York University s Marron Institute of Urban Management, whereas Byock, who is completely opposed to any law change, is a professor of medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. Kleiman and Byock have compelling, but opposing viewpoints on this controversial subject, and each rule the other to be highly unethical. In the article, Kleiman states his belief that laws prevent people who need help in dying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After reviewing both segments between the debaters, It s hard to definitively state whether I support or oppose the legalization of assisted suicide. With that being said, I see both sides of the argument, however, if put on a spectrum, I lean more towards the support of assisted suicide. I believe if the patient is competent as well as the one who has requested to take this course of action, it certainly can be justified. • 8. Essay On Pollution In Textile Mill Research Pollution Most processes performed in textile mills produce atmospheric emissions. Gaseous emissions have been identified as the second greatest pollution problem (after effluent quality) for the textile industry. Speculation concerning the amounts and types of air pollutants emitted from textile operations has been widespread but, generally, air emission data for textile manufacturing operations are not readily available. Air pollution is the most difficult type of pollution to sample, test, and quantify in an audit. Air emissions can be classified according to the nature of their sources: Point sources: Boilers Ovens Storage tanks Diffusive: Solvent based Wastewater treatment Warehouses Spills Textile mills usually generate nitrogen and sulphur oxides from boilers. Other significant sources of air emissions in textile operations include resin finishing and drying operations, printing, dyeing, fabric preparation, and wastewater treatment plants. Hydrocarbons are emitted from drying ovens and from mineral oils in high temperature drying/curing. These processes can emit formaldehyde, acids, softeners, and other volatile compounds. Residues from fibre preparation sometimes emit pollutants during heat setting processes. Carriers and solvents may be emitted during dyeing operations depending on the types of dyeing processes used and from wastewater treatment plant operations. • 9. City Life Chapter Summaries Chapter 1 of experiencing cities was all about the foundations of the constantly growing metropolitan city. It includes everything from facts about how fast our cities are growing to city as a state of mind. But the section that intrigued me the most was symbolic interactionism and the study of city life. symbolic interactivity means that people are the ones who play an active role in their environment. In other words the area you live in is going to be determined by the way you interact with others and how you live your life. This idea was not one that shocked me but allowed me to grasp a greater understanding as to why different cities are the way they are. For example, i m from a small town in California with little to no crime. It is a pretty affluent area and people are pretty friendly. However you drive about 30 miles and you are now in one of the most dangerous cities in america, Oakland California. Here deadly shootings are a regular basis along with many other crimes. The citizens of these towns are usually right at the or below the poverty line. So to introduce this theory to me gives me a greater understanding as to why certain cities are dangerous and some aren t. It simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tim Burton uses low key lighting and non diegetic sound in order to fluctuate the emotions, perspectives of the character, situations, and mood in order to show his audience that everyone is different in their own special way. To begin, Tim Burton uses low key lighting to manipulate different emotions within the audience and create suspense. In Burton s film The Corpse Bride, when Victor is walking through the forest, repeating his vows over and over again, the lowkey lighting in the background creates creepy shadows making the forest look more threatening and intimidating. In Burton s film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he uses non diegetic sound when Willy Wonka is walking the children and their parents into the edible room. Burton uses non diegetic sound to show the different perspectives of each one of the children and their reaction to the room but it also changes the mood of the story. By using the orchestral music, Tim Burton is able to show the children and their parents thoughts and emotions.Burton allows the audience to get a deeper understanding of the characters. Another film that buron uses non diegetic sounds in is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. In the scene as Victor rehearses his vows, the music is proud and triumphant, but when Victor places the ring, unknowingly, on the bride s figure the music changes to a dark and frantic soundtrack, which changes the mood of the crowd from being happy for Victor to being scared for him as he runs away from the bride. By changing the music as the scenes change, Burton is able to fluctuate the mood of the setting for the audience. Burton also is able to portray that Victor s mood is also changing. In addition to allowing the audience to gain a better understanding of the characters, Burton uses non diegetic sounds to foreshadow the events that are about to happen, such as when the music changes suddenly to frantic music the viewers can predict that something bad is ... • 13. Religion And Its Influence On Religion Religion Influencing Kingship Religion and the influence it has on kingship has fascinated scholars in fields such as history and religious studies. Kingship has been influenced by the use of religion for the purpose of legitimizing power, keeping promises to its people, and finding reason for life. Religious influence on kingship seems to be an almost universal concept in human history. The acceptance of religion has changed many kings lives, for the better. Religion had a great influence on how Ashoka, Clovis and Charlemagne ruled their people. Ashoka was born in the year 304 BC to a military family who did not practice religion. After a civil war in India, the warrior Ashoka became the third emperor of the powerful Mauryan dynasty. Emperor Ahsoka was soon to gain the reputation of being a very cruel and evil emperor. He began his reign by dedicating to expand the empire that already had been established. In the year 263 BC Ahsoka conquered the Kalinga nation and soon he ruled a sizeable portion of India. But in the process of conquering the Kalinga nation, Ashoka shamelessly killed roughly 200,000 people during the Kalinga Battle. After living with such regret and remorse for the huge amount of lost life, he decided to turn to religion. The Rock Edicts of King Ashoka Excerpts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
