Life Without Principle By Henry David Thoreau
In one of his Transcendentalist essays, Life Without Principle, Henry David Thoreau addresses his
personal issues within society and explains the solutions to those issues. Throughout the essay,
Thoreau argues that society as a whole is on a decline. In order to prove this deterioration of society
Thoreau assumes that the best situation transpires when people work for pleasure instead of money,
nature is preserved instead of destroyed, and the daily times phased out. If the society is not
participating in these practices, the society is therefore in a state of deterioration, or already has
deteriorated. Out of Thoreau s claims, some side with my personals conclusions, and others conflict.
Therefore it can be deduced that Thoreau has a multitude of beliefs, and with each belief, a different
level of relevancy to the reader. If a reader was to agree with all of Thoreau s points, he or she may
find themselves somewhat detached from society and placing less emphasis on monetary objects, but
in no way in a poor situation. If a reader was to disagree with all of Thoreau s points, there would be a
worse consequence: he or she could find themselves unhappy, focused on wealth and insubstantial
events, and without care for the environment. Individual thought is required to interpret the many
messages presented by Thoreau and find the proper equilibrium between the thoughts of Thoreau s
and those of personal origination. Thoreau believes that in the best scenario, people would work

Changing Lanes
Changing Lanes: Philosophical Analysis When people become stressed to the max, bad things can
happen. This is especially true when the people cross paths on a highway and have an accident. This is
what happened in the movie, Changing Lanes. A wealthy man on his way to a probate court hearing,
Gavin Banek, has a wreck with a recovering alcoholic, Doyle Gipson, who is also on his way to court
in order to keep his family together. Banek proceeds to leave the scene of the accident and leaves
Gipson stranded on the highway who then misses his court hearing. Banek forgets an important file at
the accident site which puts him at risk of going to prison. Gipson picks up the file and this starts a
chain of chaotic events that endangers the lives of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After thinking about what he does for a living and what his partners think about him, Banek becomes
suspicious that his partners deceived him into swindling the rich man out of his money when he was
dying. When Banek calls out Delano, Delano proceeds to tell Banek on how he can live with himself.
Delano says that he does more good than harm and that he helps more people than hurts. This is an
example of a utilitarian way of thinking because even though he is a cut throat businessman and hurts
many people he helps more through his business, the greatest amount of good for the greatest number
of people. In the film there was also an example of characters violating one of the libertarian
principles. This example was when Banek illegally bankrupted Gipson in order to try to obtain the
file. Gipson had no control over what happened to him he was helpless in the matter. Banek violated
Gipson s right to be left alone to live the way he wanted to live. Libertarianism highlights the rights of
the individuals and by bankrupting Gipson, Banek violated his rights as he took away Gipson s ability
to live in such a way that would allow his family to live with

Mainstreaming Research Paper
Does mainstreaming benefit dancers special Ed and normal Ed? I believe mainstreaming benefits both
dancers in different ways. For special Ed students dance improves their social skills and creates a safe
environment for theses students to release their emotion. For normal Ed students it helps them create
life long friends and experience other people s point of view. Although all of these ideas are positive
one of the down sides is providing a quality education for both students but the positive impacts are
greater, it improves the students social skills, provides a safe place to release emotion, and creates life
long friends. Mainstreaming may not benefit the normal Ed student quite as much as the special Ed
student but, it would impact their life in a different way. Further, if students ... Show more content on

whatever went wrong that morning wether I was just running late or something has been going on in
my life. Connecting project unify it something I love being, dance would make the class just that
much more amazing. Creating these friends is one of the greatest benefits of being apart of project
unify. To reiterate, there are both positive and negatives to creating project unify in the arts but the
benefits are much much greater. Negatives can all be solves if the students in the class knew what they
had signed up for to be mentor and was prepared to work with these students. Creating a project unify
for the dance arts would have many benefits such as making friend, social benefits, and creating
secure environments. Overall I agree with creating a project unify for dance arts because the benefits

The Potential Effects Of Democracy On The Middle East
The Potential Effects of Democracy in the Middle East
Democracy has often been affiliated with reflective notions such as freedom and liberty, as well as the
belief that people deserve a voice to represent their demands and the majority of a population should
have its way. The first idea of democracy promotion started with Wilsonian ideas, the democratic
peace theorem, and the long term security interests of all democracies (Huber, 2008). It is often
regarded as an abstract concept with varying definitions that change based on the area the concept is
being applied in. Fundamentally, the democracy practiced in the U.S. is inconceivable to apply to a
region that is drastically different in a wide array of aspects. As a result, any associations with the
concept of democracy in regions such as the Middle East must be regarded subjectively due to a
different social, cultural, economic, and political environment. Furthermore, the manner in which
states with undemocratic political systems are portrayed as being failed states carries the connotation
that being undemocratic is thus backward (Al Jarrah, 2007). Given that the vast majority of the
countries in the Middle East are predominantly Islamic, have diverse economies, and share a common
Middle Eastern culture, these influences must be acknowledged for the respective roles they play in
order to form an adequate definition for democracy in this region.
In order to gain an understanding of what has prevented the Middle East

Causes Of Imperialism In Ww1
WWI imperialism
Nineteenth century liberals believed that if European states were organized along national lines, these
states would work together and create a peaceful Europe. They were wrong. (Textbook WWI) In 1914,
European leaders thought a balance of powers would be a good chance for the European countries, so
no one country could overpower another. Germany was not ok with that change, and formed a alliance
with Italy and Austria Hungry, this alliance was called the Triple Alliance. In response, Russia, Great
Britain, and France formed what was called the Triple Entente. A Serbian group called the Black Hand
also was important during this time. They assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, and
soon after the war started. In 1914, imperialism is one of the main underlying causes of WWI because
of the Triple Alliance/ Triple Entente, strengthening military forces, and the population of the
countries.
In 1914, imperialism was a main underlying cause of WWI because of the Triple Alliance and the
Triple Entente. The tension between countries was matched by tension within countries. Especially in
southeastern Europe, in the area known as a Balkans, the spirit of nationalism and independence ran
high. Some ethnic groups revolted. The region was a powder keg. All that it lacked was a spark to set
it off. ( Underlying cause of WWI 307) This is important and supports imperialism because of the war,
they acquired colonies abroad in order to gain advantage over

An Epidemic in the Government was the The American...
Government is a branch or service of the supreme authority of a state or nation, taken as representing
the whole. The government was a system that was ordained by God in order to maintain liberties that
God has granted us and also punish those who disobey God commands. One of the roles given to the
government is to promote economic progress by protecting the rights of individuals and allowing for
the free market economy of the laws of supply and demand to free take place. One epidemic that has
surfaced over the years would be the The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. The law allows for
many of the Bush tax cuts to retain while those who have a higher income are taxed at a higher rate.
One of the major problems that this act of legislation causes economically is an unequal taxation of
different groups based on their income. Those who make $400,000+ are taxed a rate of 39.6% of their
total income. (H.R 8, 112th Congress) This does not incorporate sales tax and property taxes that are
also taken each year as well. In the book Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt, one topic that is
discussed is how taxes discourages production. In the case of The American Taxpayer Relief Act of
2012, those who are of working class category will not see a change in their tax rates. This is great
since the monetary funds that they do not pay in taxes they can either invest or use in the market.
However, the taxes for those who are of upper class status have the burden. As Hazlitt

The E FM should have communicated to people s feelings to encourage behaviour change to
overcome barriers.
The actual change process should have included a Sense of Urgency . The positive promotion of in
house services, and the expense of contracted services should have been repeatedly and strenuously
broadcast. This would have altered people s behaviour to believe the change was necessary and
beneficial.
A Project Team or Guiding Coalition should have been formed by the E FM, to drive the change
effort.
An improved Vision or change strategy would have helped sell the change with a sense of emotion.
The Vision should have been broadcast in additional formats and regularly re publicised.

Warren Harding Errors Chapter 3 Summary
In Chapter Three, The Warren Harding Error, Gladwell focuses on what he calls the dark side of thin
slicing the way that our unconscious minds tend toward Gladwell by arguing why our minds
subconscious automatically assumes things based of stereotypes using the art of persuasion.
Throughout this book you constantly hear of the idea of how we make snap judgements of everything
and everyone and how we can be more aware of it in our lives. It also explains the good and bad side
of thin slicing. (AKA snap judgements) In the book it says, ...to convince you that our snap
judgements and first impression can be educated and controlled. (Gladwell Pg. 15) In chapter three of
the book, Blink, it reflects on how snap judgements tie in with stereotypes. It says in the book, We
make connection much more quickly between pairs of ideas that are already related in our minds...
(Gladwell Pg. 77) The chapter starts off with exemplification when Gladwell gives the Warren
Harding example which also explains the bad side to thin slicing. He then goes into classification and
definition with the example of the IAT tests. The IAT tests are the perfect example as to how thin
slicing is not always a good thing. This test measured that second level of attitude in an unconscious
level, so it is our immediate associations that tumble out before you have time to think about them.
The test also shows the unconscious attitudes that you might have even if they are completely opposite
of what your

Ophelia and Hamlet in The Tragedy of Hamlet Essay
Ophelia and Hamlet
In 1600, William Shakespeare composed what is considered the greatest tragedy of all time, Hamlet,
the tragedy of the Prince of Denmark. His masterpiece forever redefined what tragedy should be.
Critics have analyzed it word for word for nearly four hundred years, with each generation
appreciating Hamlet in its own way. While Hamlet conforms, without a doubt, to Aristotle s definition
of a tragedy, one question still lingers. Did Shakespeare intend for the reader or viewer of Hamlet to
feel greater sympathy for Hamlet, or for Ophelia, Hamlet s lover? Both characters tug at the
heartstrings throughout the play, but it is clear that the tragedy of the Prince of Denmark is a
misrepresentation of Shakespeare s true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems clear that Ophelia, in her madness, knows what others may be. She has become enlightened
in her insanity. Unfortunately, because of her suicide, Ophelia is never given the chance to know what
she herself might have been. Clearly though, Ophelia does change greatly from act 1 to act 4. She
transforms from a simple and innocent young girl into a mad, unsettled and knowing woman. What
brings on these changes in Ophelia? One significant cause is the aforementioned attempted education
by Ophelia s brother, Laertes.
When Laertes gives his brotherly advise to Ophelia, in act 1, scene 3, he speaks of more that just
Hamlet s love for Ophelia. Laertes warns Ophelia that Hamlet is toying with her affection in lines 14
18:
... Perhaps he loves you now,
And now no soil nor cautel doth besmirch
The virtue of his will, but you must fear,
His greatness weighed, his will is not his own,
or he himself is subject to his birth. (1.3.14 18)
According to Laertes, Hamlet could not possibly love Ophelia because his is a prince and Ophelia a
mere maid. Hamlet is bound by his regency to love and marry a princess of equal rank and stature. In
lines 30 33, Laertes preaches the importance of Ophelia s chastity:
If with too credent ear you list his songs,
Or lose your heart, or your chaste treasure open
To his unmustered importunity.
Fear it, Ophelia, fear it, my dear

On examination of her abdomen, there was no evidence of distension, visible masses, pulsations,
scars, bruises or stomas. Her abdomen was soft and non tender, with no palpable masses,
organomegaly or ascites noted. Percussion note and bowel sounds were normal. On reading her notes,
an irregular ano rectal mass was found on rectal examination. Bright red blood and faecal matter were
found on inspection of the glove.
Routine full blood count, liver function tests and urea and electrolytes were within normal range;
however, she was found to have elevated carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a tumour marker

The greatest benefit for learning cars is you could very well be saving money. Things you typically get
serviced on are oil changes and tire rotations. All together it could round up to be a seventy five dollar
job. Natalie Spring says, you ll notice that even though parts only cost twenty five dollars, you were
charged three hundred dollars for the mechanic to do the labor to install that part. That is where they
get you, in the cost of labor (Spring). The majority of what s being charged is the service and not the
product . It s a luxury that I m sure if people become more knowledgeable, they d rather do it
themselves and save money.
There are many ways you can learn how to fix car issues. You could find do it yourself (DIY) articles
where non professionals give the basic tips and even motivation. Car repairs can drain your
pocketbook fast, but you can do a wide range of repairs yourself, regardless of your technical skill. We
re not just talking oil changes; provided you can hold a wrench, you can fix everything ranging from
fuel filters to alternators (Klosowski). You could learn by working with a professional mechanic, read
it in a book that is revolved around the make and model of your car, or you can watch a step by step
video on You Tube. I would note that it is important to have a book on the year and model of your
vehicle, because it has a lot of info on car parts you would need.

Spanish Speaking Countries Essay
American sports and Spanish speaking countries sports are very distinct to the countries cultures. In
Spanish speaking countries, many people play, watch, and are passionate for the sport fĂștbol (soccer).
Sports influence people s lives today in many ways, some being the culture of the sport, watching the
games on tv, or meeting your role model sports player. Soccer in America is looked at way differently
than fĂștbol (soccer) in Spanish speaking countries. Soccer here in America is looked at as a fun family

as a way of life. They eat, sleep, and breathe the sport. They are very passionate in watching and

Pros And Cons Of Mealtime Dilemma
Mealtime Dilemma A study done by Vegetarian Times has shown that 3.2 percent, or 7.3 million US
adults follow a vegetarian diet (Editors). The main reasons that people have chosen the vegetarian
lifestyle are due to health, the environment, and their own personal morality. When it comes to living a
healthy lifestyle, it is fairly well known that proteins, iron, and vitamins are necessary to digestive
system health. For many people, meat is the go to answer to get these things. However, meat is not
necessary to a balanced meal if these things are consumed on a regular basis. Other sources that have
an abundance of these things include leafy greens, legumes, and natural grains. The American Dietetic
Association admits that Vegetarian diets are often associated with a number of health advantages,
including lower blood cholesterol levels, lower risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure levels, and
lower risk of hypertension and type 2 diabetes. Vegetarians tend to have a lower body mass index
(BMI) and lower overall cancer rates. (American). This evidence supports the decision of becoming a
vegetarian as many of the health issues in the United States revolve around these issues. Eating meat
has a large negative effect on the environment. When it comes to deforestation, the Livestock,

Over the twentieth century there has always been a struggle of power within the middle east, and
particularly between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Amongst the nations in the Arabian Peninsula,
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always been at the most power and influential country. Saudi Arabia
and Iran were always polar opposites of each other. When Saudi Arabia first produced its oil, it saw its
economy benefit and heighten much more than Iran could do with its oil reserves. Oil was one of the
major element with Saudi Arabia and its neighboring countries that attracted Western powers to its
side and supported its foreign policies in direct opposition to Iran. After overthrowing the Shah of

The collapse of a state s authority and rise of militias and terrorist groups undermined other states
sovereignty and led to more violent proxy wars. Without the Iraqi buffer between the GCC and Iran,
more proxy wars began to spread all over the Middle East. One of the reasons that states in the
Arabian Peninsula were able to standoff terrorist attacks and proxy wars is because of the authority the
leaders wield which is forged over hundreds of years, the close kinship between the states have proved
detrimental to their survival in the past which is why they did not fall to terrorists in the way Yemen,
Iraq and Syria had.
The unique aspect that surrounds Iran is it is the only predominantly Shi a nations that is under a Shi a
authority; one way to understand Iran is that it is the polar opposite of what the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia is. Iran remains isolated in the region, not as isolated as it was before Saddam Hussein was in
charge of Iraq but it is still slowly spreading its influence around the GCC and surrounding nations
through Hezbollah, which had support from Iran and is present in Lebanon, Bahrain, Yemen and
Syria. Gulf States recognize Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
However, it is important to clarify that not all of the conflicts in the Middle East occur because of Shi
a Sunni factions. When discussing religion in the Middle East, another classification that is often
overlooked or ignored is race and ethnicity. In

Also, it was later found that Blair s time at prior journalist jobs, as well as, his college newspaper

journalism methods (Bailey, 2008). In addition, it was later found that Blair s senior editor warned
Blair a number of times about possible plagiarism. However, for whatever reason The Times ignored
these warning, stating that they placed complete trust in its employees. In fact The Times compared
the paper to other entities replying, like Every newspaper, like every bank and every police
department, we trust our employees to uphold central principles (Bailey 2008, p.1). However, in many
ways The New York Times blind trust policy was unchecked and even promoted Blair s unethical
behavior (Mnookin, 2005).
Jayson Blair s New York Time s scandal would never have happened if The Times had a better system
of validating and checking for possible plagerism before a story was sent for print. Moreover, as
Tannenbaum (2003) mentions in her article there were plagiarism detection tools present that could

determined that they did not have to check their writer s stories for accuracy or possible plagerism.

Chemical Composition Of Cells Lab Report
Chemical Composition of Cells Lab Report Tyler Thomason September 14, 2015
Introduction
A cell, the building block of all living organisms, is composed of four fundamental biomolecules:
proteins, carbohydrates, sugars and lipids. Proteins provide a vast amount of functions cells such as
they serve as enzymes, provide structural support to cells, and act as antibodies. Reagents are used to
spark a chemical reaction. The reagent used to detect protein traces in a substance is Biuret s. Biuret s
will turn purple if proteins are present and blue if they are none. Biuret s copper particles, have a
charge of +2, are diminished to a charge of +1 when peptide bonds, which are in proteins, are present,
creating the color change. Polysaccharides, which are carbohydrates, are most notably known to
provide energy to the body, but they also help in breaking down fatty acids. Iodine is the reagent used
to determine whether a substance has starch in it. The iodine/starch complex has energy levels that are
only for retaining unmistakable light, giving the complex its extraordinarily dark black blue shade. If
there is no starch found, iodine will remain its natural yellowish brownish color, but if starch is
present, iodine will turn blue black. Monosaccharides, which are sugars, like polysaccharides, provide
the body with energy. To detect monosaccharides, the reagent, Benedict s, is used. Benedict s reagent
is added to a test tube, then it is placed in

V-J Day Dbq
There s often memorials and monuments commemorating heroes in wars or battles taken place in the
world. They re often of famous leaders or generals; however, this isn t always the case. One of the
most well known photos from WWII wasn t even of anyone that people knew. it wasn t a battle scene
or place. it was simply two common people embracing the victory with each other. During world war
II, which lasted from 1939 to 1945, the casualties were great. Over 60 million people s lives were lost;
419,400 of them being Americans. So many Americans lives were lost and it truly took a toll on the
nation. The official date of the end of the war isn t universally agreed upon, but most people consider
it to be August 14, 1945, also known as V J day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alfred Eisenstaedt was the photographer present who captured the famous Life magazine photo that
was used to demonstrate the celebration of that day. The famous photograph consisted of an American
sailor kissing a woman in a white dress in Times Square. There were many mysteries on who were the
people pictured, many men had claimed to be the sailor but only the nurse s identity was confirmed.
For the longest time, people had thought that Edith Shain was the woman in the picture, but she was
the only one who came forward about it, later one two other women contacted Life magazine and
claimed to be the nurse. The two women were Greta Friedman and Barbara Sokol, it was then later
determined that Greta Friedman was the woman because the other two had an insufficient height of
just under five feet and it was not comparable with the height of any of the men claiming to be the

Middle Adulthood Theory
Middle adulthood is categorized from the ages of 35 to 65 years of age and begins a very new physical
and mental chapter of one s life. Recall when Erickson, referred to middle age as a period when
attention turns to creation of a legacy (414). This is done by an adult influencing the lives of the
younger generation. Erickson s theory of generativity states that one is making a valuable contribution
to society by bringing up children or mentoring younger people in some way. After four decades of
research psychiatrist George Vaillant, felt it necessary to modify Erickson s theory on generativity.
Vaillant argued that there is a stage between intimacy and generativity called career consolidation
defined as a paid vocation or a stay at home mother or father. The outcome of this phase is the creation
of a new social network for which the middle aged adult s primary work serves as a hub (415).Vaillant
explains how individuals need to have a sense of commitment to themselves and their chosen field, in
these choices they need to feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the tasks that have to be dealt with in this phase, by both men and women include accepting
one s own mortality, physical limitations, and health risks. Along with this comes many stereotype for

or go on vacations. For the women she likes to shop and go on cruises to fill her time. Maybe she
wants that younger boyfriend all are your typical stereotype, but how true are they? Researchers say
that the myths are indeed facts, but depending on cultures will determine if it is looked upon as a crisis
or not. Yes there has been a significant occurrence in this person s life, but researchers say that this
person may finally be embracing life knowing that there is limited time

Narrative Essay On Try America
Try America. Who knew that this foreign land would be where a girl, sixteen years of age, would be
living, maybe, for the rest of her life. It had always been her dream to live in a house where it almost
looks like a palace compared to the houses back in her motherland. It had always been her dream to
stroll the streets of an unfamiliar place in luck to quench the burning thirst of adventure within her.
She loves the thought of adventure. She loves the thought of exploring a new world where many are
unfamiliar to her. To see a world where there are no dust rising from the filthy grounds like of those of
her former neighborhood. To see a world where the roads are as clean and smooth as a polished
obsidian. To see a world where the trees are as green as a peridot. That sixteen year old girl is me.
Strolling the streets of my former neighborhood had been fun and was an epic adventure. An
adventure to see children playing happily in the streets, conversations between mothers over their
worn down wooden fences, and fathers who are lazily sitting on a chair under a tree smoking a
cigarette. Those were the image that are embedded in my brain. From this neighborhood, I learned
how even in some troublesome circumstances, everyone helps each other. Considering everyone
knows who is who. Everyone is polite to each other. Everyone is kind. Their are some occasional
fights from idiotic hooligans but it always ends about an argument over a bottle of beer. Gazing at
stars had always been

The Flipped Classroom Experience
Technologies have its own share of advantages and disadvantages. Technology can be a boon in
disguise or it can work in opposite way. In past, several learning institutes have tried applying new and
latest technologies to enhance the teaching experience. Technology needs to be analysed methodically
to estimate the benefits. The technology we discussed and recommend includes Webex, classroom
recording which facilitate collaborative online interactive sessions. These technology have played
important role in making teaching more flexible and beneficial to students and teachers. Many
universities across the world have started using online interactive sessions for teaching. This is also
known as online tutoring or online course. As of now, major US universities including MIT and
Harvard are offering online courses. It has its own unique selling point of location flexibility. It has
been successfully tried across the world to give more value to students and make education truly
global globalized.
This can be also used to have mix of both worlds. Not just online or full recorded classroom videos
but something that gives a better learning experience. It is also called as Flipped learning. Flipped
learning is combination of online teaching and recorded video sessions, which students watch usually
at home and homework is now completed in the class with interaction from teachers and collaboration
of students. Flipped teaching is a new form of blended learning instead of pure lecturing.

....ÎČk are coefficients of the k predictor variables (k = 7 in this model). The coefficients indicate how
the price changes by a unit change in any variable, keeping rest of the variables constant.
The output shows that cut, polish and certification have t stats and corresponding p values that are
considerably greater than 0.05 (significance level). A stepwise regression drops these variables,
indicating that they are not a good fit for the model (Appendix).
One reason might be that the scatterplot of price vs. carat shows observations being clumped;
representing the three different wholesalers (Appendix). Making inferences on this scatterplot shows
that wholesaler 3 carries diamonds in the range of $160 to $665, significantly lower than the total
range. These observations might lead to inaccurate prediction of the effect of predictor variables on
price. Also, it can be seen from the scatterplot that wholesaler 1 deals in diamonds falling under a very
small interval of $3000 to $3091, while the ones from wholesaler 2 fall in the range of $1856 to
$3145.
As a result, this paper makes an assumption that only data from wholesalers 1 and 2 will fit the model
best, in terms of finding the correct diamond for the professor.
2. Partial Level Level Model (Carat):
Considering the assumption made above, the next model regresses price on all the variables, but only
for diamonds from wholesalers 1 and 2. It

Summary Of One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
Sabrina Delgado
Period 7 One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest Essay Prompt: 2. Does McMurphy win or lose his battle
with Nurse Ratched? Justify your answer with three specific examples from the text. Red haired,
rowdy, and raunchy are three words to describe the crazy, infamous McMurphy, while the Nurse is a
prude, prideful and frigid ruler who is power hungry over the mental institution. These two mixed
together lead to a cunning war of dominance in the hospital. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest is a
1962 novel by Ken Kesey depicting the patients at an Oregon psychiatric hospital and how the of the
patients and staff change when a new patient, Randle McMurphy arrives. From McMurphy s devious
schemes to manipulate the system to get what he wants, to the Nurse sabotaging his friends opinions
of him in order to gain the upper hand, this superiority struggle has a definite winner at the end of the
novel: McMurphy. McMurphy wins this battle with the Nurse because although he died at the end, he
still overcomes and finds ways to manipulate Nurse Ratched s harsh rules and regulations throughout
the book, and leaves an effect on Ratched and the ward that proves the influence and power he had
over all of them.
The first instance of McMurphy s winning streak was by getting his way and overcoming Nurse
Ratched s rulings and regulations. One instance is when McMurphy comes up with the idea of using
the tub room as a second day room and uses Dr. Spivey to help him. Quote:

The Affordable Healthcare Act And The Catholic Faith
The Affordable Healthcare Act and the Catholic Faith
The healthcare system of the United States was established as a system of health and welfare
programs created to provide affordable treatment to the citizens of the United States. Recently, the
Affordable Health Care Act was passed changing the structure of the system (Mulvany, 2012). While
in theory the new arrangement works, it has its flaws due to the resulting cost, slowness, and the
government interfering with religious and personal beliefs. These problems have led many people to
question the role of the government in the life of the individual.
The Supreme Court s favorable ruling on the Affordable Health Care Act allowed for healthcare to be
available for many Americans who would otherwise not receive medical benefits. This is because it
increases the number of people covered by Medicare/Medicaid, and lowers the cost of insurance
through employers. While this idea is good in theory, paying for it is a challenge due to the fact that it
will only add to the nation s already enormous debit of several trillion dollars (Mulvany, 2012). From
2010 2019, the United States is predicted to spend around 400 billion dollars on healthcare. This
prediction has prompted lawmakers to reduce spending on Medicare, Medicaid and other welfare
programs. The spending cuts will result in less people getting the care they need due to the limited
availability of money for care and the increase in the number of beneficiaries receiving

My First Language Of English Literature
As a child I was born into a Spanish speaking family, which made my first language Spanish. I began
with the similar syllables as most babies do mamĂ , papĂ , and so on. Both of my parents are from
different parts of Mexico which exposed me to a Spanish speaking environment and very little
writing. I wrote and read poorly in Spanish. However, the language spoken by my peers outside my
home was another. Being raised in Pomona, CA my community and school practiced wo different
dialects of English. Under these consequences, I remember becoming very frustrated as I learned how
to read. I struggled with reading, prior to my early years in school I had not been exposed to English
literature. I remember feeling inferior to many class members as they caught on faster to the way
words should be pronounced. The period in which reading was taught I did my best to participate as
little as possible. In any case, I was able to catch on for the most part and later taught how to write in
English. Although I struggled with this as well since I tried to apply some of my Spanish literacy
knowledge when writing English. Once I began writing reading helped and made some words
familiar. A key moment in learning English was writing words just as my ears heard them, I remember
my mother saying that was how one wrote in Spanish. Thus, my way of thinking was if by writing as I
heard was done in Spanish, then it should be done in English too, nonetheless, I soon realized that
wasn t the way English

American Born Chinese Stereotypes Analysis
American Born Chinese Stereotype Essay
The most common stereotypes today are dumb blonde, geek, nerd, smart asian, fat american, terrorist.
These insults are used everyday, as it is a way for society to label people for being different from
everyone else. Stereotypes are used in American Born Chinese to show how stereotypes are used to
negatively group people, to depict how others bully those who are different, and are used to show how
stereotypes affect those they are directed towards and those around them in a negative way.
The first way stereotypes are used is to show negative stereotypes from the looks from other people.
One example of this happening is on page 31. [Timmy ] My momma says Chinese people eat dogs.

One example Yang gave was when Jin was eating his lunch and a group of boys went over to him.
They teased him about eating dogs (Yang 32 33). This only because Timmy and the teacher assumed
the worst of Jin s culture and associated him with it. These kids were bullying Jin because he was
different. This happens everywhere from the workplace to the classroom and some people think that it
is true so it is okay. In order to make them look and feel superior, the kids bullied Jin and made him
feel left out and not worth anything. This also happens today, as people are constantly putting down
others at work or in school due to their race, religion, or just by the way they look. Another example of
stereotypes being used to show superiority is when Peter Grabinsky taking Jin s sandwich and
promising to be his friend if he continued to give his lunch to him (Peter) (Yang 34). Peter then treats
Jin as if he is a dog s favorite toy that will soon be forgotten and thrown away. This does happen, as
Peter leaves to live with his father and leaves Jin. This example shows how Peter took advantage of
the other children s disliking towards Jin due to what he looked like by taking his lunch and abusing
him. Both of these show how students of mayflower elementary treat Jin as if he is useless and bully
him in order to make them feel special. The kids saw that Jin was different and their brains seemed to
associate him with eating dogs and coming from china. To sum it up, the children making fun of Jin
for supposedly eating dogs just shows that the children are making him seem abnormal and a shame to
society just because he is from a country that does things that are frowned upon in their

  • 2. Life Without Principle By Henry David Thoreau In one of his Transcendentalist essays, Life Without Principle, Henry David Thoreau addresses his personal issues within society and explains the solutions to those issues. Throughout the essay, Thoreau argues that society as a whole is on a decline. In order to prove this deterioration of society Thoreau assumes that the best situation transpires when people work for pleasure instead of money, nature is preserved instead of destroyed, and the daily times phased out. If the society is not participating in these practices, the society is therefore in a state of deterioration, or already has deteriorated. Out of Thoreau s claims, some side with my personals conclusions, and others conflict. Therefore it can be deduced that Thoreau has a multitude of beliefs, and with each belief, a different level of relevancy to the reader. If a reader was to agree with all of Thoreau s points, he or she may find themselves somewhat detached from society and placing less emphasis on monetary objects, but in no way in a poor situation. If a reader was to disagree with all of Thoreau s points, there would be a worse consequence: he or she could find themselves unhappy, focused on wealth and insubstantial events, and without care for the environment. Individual thought is required to interpret the many messages presented by Thoreau and find the proper equilibrium between the thoughts of Thoreau s and those of personal origination. Thoreau believes that in the best scenario, people would work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Changing Lanes Changing Lanes: Philosophical Analysis When people become stressed to the max, bad things can happen. This is especially true when the people cross paths on a highway and have an accident. This is what happened in the movie, Changing Lanes. A wealthy man on his way to a probate court hearing, Gavin Banek, has a wreck with a recovering alcoholic, Doyle Gipson, who is also on his way to court in order to keep his family together. Banek proceeds to leave the scene of the accident and leaves Gipson stranded on the highway who then misses his court hearing. Banek forgets an important file at the accident site which puts him at risk of going to prison. Gipson picks up the file and this starts a chain of chaotic events that endangers the lives of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After thinking about what he does for a living and what his partners think about him, Banek becomes suspicious that his partners deceived him into swindling the rich man out of his money when he was dying. When Banek calls out Delano, Delano proceeds to tell Banek on how he can live with himself. Delano says that he does more good than harm and that he helps more people than hurts. This is an example of a utilitarian way of thinking because even though he is a cut throat businessman and hurts many people he helps more through his business, the greatest amount of good for the greatest number of people. In the film there was also an example of characters violating one of the libertarian principles. This example was when Banek illegally bankrupted Gipson in order to try to obtain the file. Gipson had no control over what happened to him he was helpless in the matter. Banek violated Gipson s right to be left alone to live the way he wanted to live. Libertarianism highlights the rights of the individuals and by bankrupting Gipson, Banek violated his rights as he took away Gipson s ability to live in such a way that would allow his family to live with ... • 4. Mainstreaming Research Paper Does mainstreaming benefit dancers special Ed and normal Ed? I believe mainstreaming benefits both dancers in different ways. For special Ed students dance improves their social skills and creates a safe environment for theses students to release their emotion. For normal Ed students it helps them create life long friends and experience other people s point of view. Although all of these ideas are positive one of the down sides is providing a quality education for both students but the positive impacts are greater, it improves the students social skills, provides a safe place to release emotion, and creates life long friends. Mainstreaming may not benefit the normal Ed student quite as much as the special Ed student but, it would impact their life in a different way. Further, if students ... Connecting project unify it something I love being, dance would make the class just that much more amazing. Creating these friends is one of the greatest benefits of being apart of project unify. To reiterate, there are both positive and negatives to creating project unify in the arts but the benefits are much much greater. Negatives can all be solves if the students in the class knew what they had signed up for to be mentor and was prepared to work with these students. Creating a project unify for the dance arts would have many benefits such as making friend, social benefits, and creating secure environments. Overall I agree with creating a project unify for dance arts because the benefits out weigh the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Potential Effects Of Democracy On The Middle East The Potential Effects of Democracy in the Middle East Democracy has often been affiliated with reflective notions such as freedom and liberty, as well as the belief that people deserve a voice to represent their demands and the majority of a population should have its way. The first idea of democracy promotion started with Wilsonian ideas, the democratic peace theorem, and the long term security interests of all democracies (Huber, 2008). It is often regarded as an abstract concept with varying definitions that change based on the area the concept is being applied in. Fundamentally, the democracy practiced in the U.S. is inconceivable to apply to a region that is drastically different in a wide array of aspects. As a result, any associations with the concept of democracy in regions such as the Middle East must be regarded subjectively due to a different social, cultural, economic, and political environment. Furthermore, the manner in which states with undemocratic political systems are portrayed as being failed states carries the connotation that being undemocratic is thus backward (Al Jarrah, 2007). Given that the vast majority of the countries in the Middle East are predominantly Islamic, have diverse economies, and share a common Middle Eastern culture, these influences must be acknowledged for the respective roles they play in order to form an adequate definition for democracy in this region. In order to gain an understanding of what has prevented the Middle East ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Causes Of Imperialism In Ww1 WWI imperialism Nineteenth century liberals believed that if European states were organized along national lines, these states would work together and create a peaceful Europe. They were wrong. (Textbook WWI) In 1914, European leaders thought a balance of powers would be a good chance for the European countries, so no one country could overpower another. Germany was not ok with that change, and formed a alliance with Italy and Austria Hungry, this alliance was called the Triple Alliance. In response, Russia, Great Britain, and France formed what was called the Triple Entente. A Serbian group called the Black Hand also was important during this time. They assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, and soon after the war started. In 1914, imperialism is one of the main underlying causes of WWI because of the Triple Alliance/ Triple Entente, strengthening military forces, and the population of the countries. In 1914, imperialism was a main underlying cause of WWI because of the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente. The tension between countries was matched by tension within countries. Especially in southeastern Europe, in the area known as a Balkans, the spirit of nationalism and independence ran high. Some ethnic groups revolted. The region was a powder keg. All that it lacked was a spark to set it off. ( Underlying cause of WWI 307) This is important and supports imperialism because of the war, they acquired colonies abroad in order to gain advantage over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. An Epidemic in the Government was the The American... Government is a branch or service of the supreme authority of a state or nation, taken as representing the whole. The government was a system that was ordained by God in order to maintain liberties that God has granted us and also punish those who disobey God commands. One of the roles given to the government is to promote economic progress by protecting the rights of individuals and allowing for the free market economy of the laws of supply and demand to free take place. One epidemic that has surfaced over the years would be the The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. The law allows for many of the Bush tax cuts to retain while those who have a higher income are taxed at a higher rate. One of the major problems that this act of legislation causes economically is an unequal taxation of different groups based on their income. Those who make $400,000+ are taxed a rate of 39.6% of their total income. (H.R 8, 112th Congress) This does not incorporate sales tax and property taxes that are also taken each year as well. In the book Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt, one topic that is discussed is how taxes discourages production. In the case of The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, those who are of working class category will not see a change in their tax rates. This is great since the monetary funds that they do not pay in taxes they can either invest or use in the market. However, the taxes for those who are of upper class status have the burden. • 11. Warren Harding Errors Chapter 3 Summary In Chapter Three, The Warren Harding Error, Gladwell focuses on what he calls the dark side of thin slicing the way that our unconscious minds tend toward Gladwell by arguing why our minds subconscious automatically assumes things based of stereotypes using the art of persuasion. Throughout this book you constantly hear of the idea of how we make snap judgements of everything and everyone and how we can be more aware of it in our lives. It also explains the good and bad side of thin slicing. (AKA snap judgements) In the book it says, ...to convince you that our snap judgements and first impression can be educated and controlled. (Gladwell Pg. 15) In chapter three of the book, Blink, it reflects on how snap judgements tie in with stereotypes. It says in the book, We make connection much more quickly between pairs of ideas that are already related in our minds... (Gladwell Pg. 77) The chapter starts off with exemplification when Gladwell gives the Warren Harding example which also explains the bad side to thin slicing. He then goes into classification and definition with the example of the IAT tests. The IAT tests are the perfect example as to how thin slicing is not always a good thing. This test measured that second level of attitude in an unconscious level, so it is our immediate associations that tumble out before you have time to think about them. The test also shows the unconscious attitudes that you might have even if they are completely opposite of what your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Ophelia and Hamlet in The Tragedy of Hamlet Essay Ophelia and Hamlet In 1600, William Shakespeare composed what is considered the greatest tragedy of all time, Hamlet, the tragedy of the Prince of Denmark. His masterpiece forever redefined what tragedy should be. Critics have analyzed it word for word for nearly four hundred years, with each generation appreciating Hamlet in its own way. While Hamlet conforms, without a doubt, to Aristotle s definition of a tragedy, one question still lingers. Did Shakespeare intend for the reader or viewer of Hamlet to feel greater sympathy for Hamlet, or for Ophelia, Hamlet s lover? Both characters tug at the heartstrings throughout the play, but it is clear that the tragedy of the Prince of Denmark is a misrepresentation of Shakespeare s true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems clear that Ophelia, in her madness, knows what others may be. She has become enlightened in her insanity. Unfortunately, because of her suicide, Ophelia is never given the chance to know what she herself might have been. Clearly though, Ophelia does change greatly from act 1 to act 4. She transforms from a simple and innocent young girl into a mad, unsettled and knowing woman. What brings on these changes in Ophelia? One significant cause is the aforementioned attempted education by Ophelia s brother, Laertes. When Laertes gives his brotherly advise to Ophelia, in act 1, scene 3, he speaks of more that just Hamlet s love for Ophelia. Laertes warns Ophelia that Hamlet is toying with her affection in lines 14 18: ... Perhaps he loves you now, And now no soil nor cautel doth besmirch The virtue of his will, but you must fear, His greatness weighed, his will is not his own, or he himself is subject to his birth. (1.3.14 18) According to Laertes, Hamlet could not possibly love Ophelia because his is a prince and Ophelia a mere maid. Hamlet is bound by his regency to love and marry a princess of equal rank and stature. In lines 30 33, Laertes preaches the importance of Ophelia s chastity: If with too credent ear you list his songs, Or lose your heart, or your chaste treasure open

That is where they get you, in the cost of labor (Spring). The majority of what s being charged is the service and not the product . • 18. Pros And Cons Of Mealtime Dilemma Mealtime Dilemma A study done by Vegetarian Times has shown that 3.2 percent, or 7.3 million US adults follow a vegetarian diet (Editors). The main reasons that people have chosen the vegetarian lifestyle are due to health, the environment, and their own personal morality. When it comes to living a healthy lifestyle, it is fairly well known that proteins, iron, and vitamins are necessary to digestive system health. For many people, meat is the go to answer to get these things. However, meat is not necessary to a balanced meal if these things are consumed on a regular basis. The collapse of a state s authority and rise of militias and terrorist groups undermined other states sovereignty and led to more violent proxy wars. Without the Iraqi buffer between the GCC and Iran, more proxy wars began to spread all over the Middle East. One of the reasons that states in the Arabian Peninsula were able to standoff terrorist attacks and proxy wars is because of the authority the leaders wield which is forged over hundreds of years, the close kinship between the states have proved detrimental to their survival in the past which is why they did not fall to terrorists in the way Yemen, Iraq and Syria had. Chemical Composition Of Cells Lab Report Chemical Composition of Cells Lab Report Tyler Thomason September 14, 2015 Introduction A cell, the building block of all living organisms, is composed of four fundamental biomolecules: proteins, carbohydrates, sugars and lipids. Proteins provide a vast amount of functions cells such as they serve as enzymes, provide structural support to cells, and act as antibodies. Reagents are used to spark a chemical reaction. The reagent used to detect protein traces in a substance is Biuret s. Biuret s will turn purple if proteins are present and blue if they are none. Biuret s copper particles, have a charge of +2, are diminished to a charge of +1 when peptide bonds, which are in proteins, are present, creating the color change. Polysaccharides, which are carbohydrates, are most notably known to provide energy to the body, but they also help in breaking down fatty acids. Iodine is the reagent used to determine whether a substance has starch in it. The iodine/starch complex has energy levels that are only for retaining unmistakable light, giving the complex its extraordinarily dark black blue shade. If there is no starch found, iodine will remain its natural yellowish brownish color, but if starch is present, iodine will turn blue black. Monosaccharides, which are sugars, like polysaccharides, provide the body with energy. To detect monosaccharides, the reagent, Benedict s, is used. Erickson s theory of generativity states that one is making a valuable contribution to society by bringing up children or mentoring younger people in some way. After four decades of research psychiatrist George Vaillant, felt it necessary to modify Erickson s theory on generativity. The coefficients indicate how the price changes by a unit change in any variable, keeping rest of the variables constant. The output shows that cut, polish and certification have t stats and corresponding p values that are considerably greater than 0.05 (significance level). A stepwise regression drops these variables, indicating that they are not a good fit for the model (Appendix). One reason might be that the scatterplot of price vs. carat shows observations being clumped; representing the three different wholesalers (Appendix). Making inferences on this scatterplot shows that wholesaler 3 carries diamonds in the range of $160 to $665, significantly lower than the total range. These observations might lead to inaccurate prediction of the effect of predictor variables on price. Also, it can be seen from the scatterplot that wholesaler 1 deals in diamonds falling under a very small interval of $3000 to $3091, while the ones from wholesaler 2 fall in the range of $1856 to $3145. As a result, this paper makes an assumption that only data from wholesalers 1 and 2 will fit the model best, in terms of finding the correct diamond for the professor. 2. Partial Level Level Model (Carat): Considering the assumption made above, the next model regresses price on all the variables, but only for diamonds from wholesalers 1 and 2. It ... Justify your answer with three specific examples from the text. Red haired, rowdy, and raunchy are three words to describe the crazy, infamous McMurphy, while the Nurse is a prude, prideful and frigid ruler who is power hungry over the mental institution. These two mixed together lead to a cunning war of dominance in the hospital. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest is a 1962 novel by Ken Kesey depicting the patients at an Oregon psychiatric hospital and how the of the patients and staff change when a new patient, Randle McMurphy arrives. From McMurphy s devious schemes to manipulate the system to get what he wants, to the Nurse sabotaging his friends opinions of him in order to gain the upper hand, this superiority struggle has a definite winner at the end of the novel: McMurphy. McMurphy wins this battle with the Nurse because although he died at the end, he still overcomes and finds ways to manipulate Nurse Ratched s harsh rules and regulations throughout the book, and leaves an effect on Ratched and the ward that proves the influence and power he had over all of them. The first instance of McMurphy s winning streak was by getting his way and overcoming Nurse Ratched s rulings and regulations. • 33. The Affordable Healthcare Act And The Catholic Faith The Affordable Healthcare Act and the Catholic Faith The healthcare system of the United States was established as a system of health and welfare programs created to provide affordable treatment to the citizens of the United States. Recently, the Affordable Health Care Act was passed changing the structure of the system (Mulvany, 2012). While in theory the new arrangement works, it has its flaws due to the resulting cost, slowness, and the government interfering with religious and personal beliefs. These problems have led many people to question the role of the government in the life of the individual. The Supreme Court s favorable ruling on the Affordable Health Care Act allowed for healthcare to be available for many Americans who would otherwise not receive medical benefits. This is because it increases the number of people covered by Medicare/Medicaid, and lowers the cost of insurance through employers. While this idea is good in theory, paying for it is a challenge due to the fact that it will only add to the nation s already enormous debit of several trillion dollars (Mulvany, 2012). From 2010 2019, the United States is predicted to spend around 400 billion dollars on healthcare. This prediction has prompted lawmakers to reduce spending on Medicare, Medicaid and other welfare programs. The spending cuts will result in less people getting the care they need due to the limited availability of money for care and the increase in the number of beneficiaries receiving ... These insults are used everyday, as it is a way for society to label people for being different from everyone else. Stereotypes are used in American Born Chinese to show how stereotypes are used to negatively group people, to depict how others bully those who are different, and are used to show how stereotypes affect those they are directed towards and those around them in a negative way. The first way stereotypes are used is to show negative stereotypes from the looks from other people. One example of this happening is on page 31. [Timmy ] My momma says Chinese people eat dogs. They teased him about eating dogs (Yang 32 33). This only because Timmy and the teacher assumed the worst of Jin s culture and associated him with it. These kids were bullying Jin because he was different. This happens everywhere from the workplace to the classroom and some people think that it is true so it is okay. In order to make them look and feel superior, the kids bullied Jin and made him feel left out and not worth anything. This also happens today, as people are constantly putting down others at work or in school due to their race, religion, or just by the way they look. Another example of stereotypes being used to show superiority is when Peter Grabinsky taking Jin s sandwich and promising to be his friend if he continued to give his lunch to him (Peter) (Yang 34). Peter then treats Jin as if he is a dog s favorite toy that will soon be forgotten and thrown away. This does happen, as Peter leaves to live with his father and leaves Jin. This example shows how Peter took advantage of the other children s disliking towards Jin due to what he looked like by taking his lunch and abusing him. Both of these show how students of mayflower elementary treat Jin as if he is useless and bully him in order to make them feel special. The kids saw that Jin was different and their brains seemed to associate him with eating dogs and coming from china. To sum it up, the children making fun of Jin for supposedly eating dogs just shows that the children are making him seem abnormal and a shame to society just because he is from a country that does things that are frowned upon in their ...
