population of 4,400 people. There are a lot of people passing through Sullivan every day. On their way
to school, work, to the store, or just passing through. For the most part people would have to go over a
railroad track to get anywhere and they are in very poor conditions. There is no bypass to get around
them so it backs up cars, and it doesn t help the trains take around five or more minutes to pass; along

This is a serious problem for some people who do not know what the tracks are like and do not know
how slow to go over them. This could cause many accidents and sometimes even serious injuries.
Every time someone drives over a railroad they should not have to slow to down to ten miles an hour
or slower. Yes, it is a good idea too and is safer, but what if they were smooth and flat and people
could just keep going the speed limit. It would make things more efficient and faster to get to places.
If the driver goes too fast over the tracks it could damage their car because the railroad is not flat. For
instance, on my way to school, I have to go over a railroad track and it is in terrible condition. There
are no meters to know if a train is coming, one of the lights are out also to know when a train is
coming, it is so bumpy even going slow doesn t help, I jerk back and forth, and drivers cannot see if
there is oncoming traffic because the tracks are elevated higher than the rest of the road. An easy way
to solve this is lower the tracks to the same level as the road to where it is flat. People walking could
see oncoming traffic and have a better understanding of where to walk. Another way to solve this is
get new tracks to lie on the road. A few years ago, Sullivan got new tracks near where the highway
crosses them in the middle of town and it is so much smoother and easier to drive over then most of
