Proteus Vulgaris Microbiology
Proteus vulgaris #12
The importance of identification of a certain microorganisms can range between a life threatening
diseases to a creation of certain antibiotic. Understanding the principals of living microbes and
identifying my unknown bacteria through numerous biochemical and metabolism tests, with the
outmost confidence, Proteus vulgaris had the precise qualifications. The point of this report is to
further explore the identification of my unknown bacteria by revealing the results of the experiments
and comparing them to the other six known bacteria: Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus,
Staphylococcus epidermidis, Alcaligenes faecalis, Escherichia coli, and Proteus vulgaris that were
used in the lab, as well as comparing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Harley, 2011, pp. 102 103) Sucrose and lactose serve as a fermentable carbohydrate sources which
promote its growth of fecal forms and provide color change differentiation. (Harley, 2011, p. 104)
Therefore, if E. coli is being platted on the EMB, after plate s incubation period, it should produce a
green metallic sheen on the agar due to the bacteria being a strong fermenter. My unknown bacteria
tested positive for growth, and agar was fermented reddish burgundy in color. Subsequently, the
unknown bacteria was later inoculated with a sterilized loop into the liquid tryptic soy broth and
incubated at an appropriate temperature. Its results were used for proper identification of turbidity,
spots and flocculation. (BD™ Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB), 2008) The results of the unknown were
cloudiness and some settlement on the bottom of the tryptic soy liquid. The next step was conducted
to find out if all the bacteria, as well as the unknown culture, required oxygen for growth, varying
from an aerobic environment, where bacteria needs oxygen to grow, to facultative anaerobic
environment, where bacteria will grow either with or without oxygen but better in its presence. All the
bacteria, along with the unknown, were separately inoculated and tested. My unknown culture results
tested positive for growth in facultative anaerobic environment. In the next sequence of lab
experiments, the results of unknown bacteria were determined by glucose fermentation,

Homelessness And Homelessness
National reports estimate that about two percent of the world s population, are homeless and more
than ten times that amount, or twenty percent, may lack suitable housing (Chamie J., 2017). There is a
two way relationship between homelessness and mental health, such that the circumstances created by
persons mental health problems can cause them to become homeless or homelessness may lead to the
development of a mental health problem (Mental Health Foundation, 2015). Shelter is one of the
minimum core human rights of an individual (O Hare et al., 2016). Thereby the lack of it is often the
main focus when it comes to the problem of homelessness. However, there are other minimum core
human rights to consider when it comes to homelessness, which include the right to water, food,
sanitation and healthcare (O Hare et al., 2016). All of these minimum core rights, not just shelter, need
to be addressed with the problem of homelessness and mental health. I believe the BasicNeeds model,
which empowers persons with mental health problems by working with then rather than for them can
be used as a human right based approach to dealing with mental health in homeless populations. The
factors that lead homelessness are complex with the lack of services and facilities for persons with
mental illness being one the contributing factors (Chamie J., 2017). When examining homelessness
through the lens of the minimum core human rights, persons not only lack shelter, but also regular
access to

The History And Political Causes Of The Cold War
The Cold War refers to an era of U.S. history from roughly 1945 to 1990. Although the U.S.S.R. and
the U.S. fought ideological proxy wars in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, this era is referred to as
the Cold War because the United States and Soviet Union never actually engaged in war themselves.
The origins of the Cold War can be traced back to the finale of World War II. Beginning with the Yalta
Conference, the Allied powers of the Soviet Union, United States, and Great Britain started a
discussion concerning post war foreign policies. Specifically, the political system of Poland became an
important question for the Big Three . Should Poland be allowed to form a democratically elected
government, or should Russia be allowed to occupy Poland and further expand their communist
influence? Essentially, this question and many like it characterized the motivation for the Cold War.
The United States sought to contain communism while the Soviet Union pushed for both land
expansion and political influence across the globe. (CITE) Harry Truman took the office of President
just a few months before the end of World War II. Truman inherited a plethora of dilemmas heading
into the post War World II era, and he decided to take his stance on international affairs in 1947 with
the Truman Doctrine. Essentially, the Truman Doctrine promised that America would personally
intervene in order to insure that democracy would remain secure in foreign governments. This was a
stark contrast from the popular isolationist paradigm of the 20s and 30s. Furthermore, the Truman
Doctrine prompted an unusual act of international involvement when Congress agreed to aid Greek
and Turkish militaries in an effort to counter communist influence in these regions. Additionally,
Truman s handling of the Korean War is another example of his firm stance of containment. Truman
made no qualms about aiding the indigenous troops of South Korea with weapons and troops, but he
did openly reject the notion of meeting either China or the Soviet Union in an open land battle.
Furthermore, Truman fired General Douglas MacArthur based on the general s strong notion to invade
China and reluctance to respect the President s authority. Truman s decisions

Internal Revenue Code And Its Effect On The House Of Two...
My clients, Charlene and Alton Dutro, have lived in their home for two and one half years. However,
the Dutros choose to remodel and enlarge their house. Consequently, their architect cautioned that
increasingly strict building and permit restrictions had been in effect since a decade ago when the
house was built. As a result, the Dutros decided to demolish their house and rebuild on the property.
They did not reside in the house but instead sold it and realized a gain of over $500,000. For
calculation on their Federal income tax return, the Dutros reduced the realized gain that exceeded the
$500,000 by the $500,000 exclusion of § 121. The IRS issued an income tax deficiency notice because
they noted that the Dutros did not satisfy the two out of five years requirement under § 121 (a).
Consequently, the present issue is to determine who is correct in this situation. Therefore, I must
ascertain if the Dutros satisfied this requirement under § 121 (a). Internal Revenue Code § 121 (a)
notes that the $500,000 exclusion for joint returns that the Dutros appropriated would only apply if,
during the 5 year period ending on the date of sale or exchange, such property has been owned and
used by the taxpayer as the taxpayer s principal residence for periods aggregating 2 years or more. The
important phrase to note is that the home has been used by the taxpayer as their principal residence for
at least two years. Therefore, the dilemma is that the Dutros rebuilt their home and

Moral Split And Respect In Bobbie Ann s Deer Hunter
Moral Split and Respect
We will always find ourselves in moral split situations. We struggle to make the right decision and
hoping that what we decide would be the correct choice. Sometimes our decisions are strictly
depended on the notion of self filling prophecy while others are for the sake of philanthropy. We are
selfish if the chosen actions turn out to be a negative impact on the majority of people; however, the
negativity is unforeseeable. If we know ahead of time that our decisions are going to be harmful to
others then more likely than not we would have tried to avoid that complication. Then again, life is
unpredictable. It is unpredictable just like the Vietnam War. Americans went into the war with culture

The Americans at front wanted to show the world that communism must be contained; however,
citizens at home thought differently. The Southern Vietnamese didn t want to be governed by such
leadership. The Northern Vietnamese wanted imperialism because they believed their way of ruling
was superlative and superior. These different perspectives are intensively analyzed in many well
written novels and powerful films concerning the Vietnam War throughout the world. With this in
mind, the fascinating book that glimpsed at the Vietnam War through a domestic eye is In Country
written by Bobbie Ann Mason while the film, Deer Hunter, directed by Michael Cimino provides
visual understanding. This domestic eye is from strictly the ones that reside in America; however, we
cannot forget the Asian view of this war. With this in mind, The Sorrow of War by Bao Ninh, A Good
Scent from a Strange Mountain by Robert Olen Butler, and the two movies; The Scent of Green
Papaya directed by Tran Anh Hung and Three Seasons directed by Tony Bui are the best sources that
allow us to understand the other view of war. However, regardless of the different views, there is
always the questioning of morality. As discussed previously, morality is a choice that is based on
individual valuations; therefore, no one should be criticized for his or her decision. With this in mind,
ethics are deeply embedded in The Madagascar Plum

Marco Polo Thesis
America will never be the same again, thanks to Marco polo. His adventure has just begun. He
traveled for 3 whole years just to get to China. He traveled for us because of these travels to China,
Marco became a famous explorer and author. He created a book based on his travels and everything
that he learned including culture, language, ideas, and their development. His motivators would
include, his dad and his uncle which paved his path to go out and discover China, but that s not all, he
had 3 daughters, a wife, his mom and dad, and even his grandfather. Meanwhile he still helped
America become more developed, and more up to date with all the new developments that Marco

advantage. No, wrong. Marco did this for his own country and to better everyone s life. Not just his

Marco came back he got captured and told all about his adventures to Rustichello da Pisa, who wrote
them down in a book and eventually named it The Travels of Marco Polo. This book is what made him
famous and got all of his ideas around to America. He was a good and kind man who helped own

Section Of Specimen Days By Walt Whitm A Part Of The Civil...
In 1882, Walt Whitman published Specimen Days, a memorandum that encompasses many aspects of
the Civil War. A section of Specimen Days is titled, The Million Dead, Too, Summ d Up The
Unknown. In this section, Whitman is trying to make sense of the Civil War s incomprehensible
destruction. Whitman was having a hard time grappling at the fact that just, so many people were
dead, and just how destructive the war was. This was a common problem. Individuals as well as both
the Union and the Confederacy were facing problems as they tried to grapple with the enormity of
human suffering and loss wrought by the Civil War, which served to wedge the warring parties further
apart. The Civil War was full of incomprehensible destruction. When ... Show more content on

Tens of thousands of soldiers from both sides were killed. Most confederate families had to face the
death of at least one male family member. In the The Million Dead, Too, Summ d Up The Unknown
Whitman explains that our young men once so handsome and so joyous, taken from us the son from
the mother, the husband from the wife, the dear friend from the dear friend (Finseth, 258). Thousands
of the deceased soldiers were lying on the battlefield, in ditches, at bases of trees abandoned, and
floating in rivers. Whitman helps to paint a clear image of all the abandoned corpuses the single
graves left in the woods or by the road side, (hundreds, thousands, obliterated) the corpses floated
down the rivers, and caught and lodged, (dozens, scores, floated down the upper Potomac, after the
cavalry engagements, the pursuit of Lee, following Gettysburgh) some lie at the bottom of the sea the
general million, and the special cemeteries in almost all the States the infinite dead (Finseth, 258).
Most of the dying soldiers from both the Union and Confederacy, had to deal with the fact that there
was no way to identify the bodies, and as a result many of the bodies remain unknown. Therefore,
many dying soldiers would place identifying markers on the inside of their uniforms in the hopes that
their body would be identified. The government had to decide what to do with all the bodies. People

Features Reflection Analysis
Feature extraction is defined as transform the existing features into a lower dimensional space.
subsection{Local Binary Pattern} Local Binary Patterns (LBP) is on of well know descriptor used for
pattern recognition cite{G1}. LBP describes textures features of the image. It divided into two
different descriptors: (1) local descriptors and (2) global descriptor. The global descriptor used for
separating the non objects blocks, while the local provides detailed objects information which can be
used in recognition application. It is mathematically calculated through dividing the image into blocks
and computing the texture histogram for each block.par Let pixel position $(i_{c},j_{c})$, LBP is

Random variables or vectors can be expressed by its entropy. MI is calculated by taking the difference
between entropy of a variable and the conditional entropy. It can be expressed as the Kullback Leibler
divergence between the product of marginal distributions $mu_{x}, mu_{y}$ and the product of
marginal distribution $mu_{x,y}$. It s mathematically defined at Equ. (ref{MI}).
begin{equation}label{MI} MI(x,y)=int mu_{x,y}(x,y)log{frac{mu_{x,y}(x,y)}{mu_{x}
(x)mu_{y}(y)}} end{equation} where $x$ and $y$ are two independent variables, where $x$ is a
feature vector/variable and $y$ is class label. When the mutual information reaches to zero that means
the higher dependency between $x$ and $y$. The higher dependency means the higher mutual
information. subsection{Statistical Dependency} The main objective of statistical dependency (SD) is
measuring the dependence of feature values on the associated class labels cite{G3}. It also measure
weather two feature vectors are simply occurs by chance. SD is mathematically defined at Equ.
(ref{SD}). begin{equation}label{SD} SD(x,y)=int mu_{x,y}(x,y){frac{mu_{x,y}(x,y)}
{mu_{x}(x)mu_{y}(y)}} end{equation} where $x$ is discredited feature values and $y$ is the
corresponding label. The higher SD, the higher dependency between the feature value and its
corresponding class label. When SD equals to 1 that means the corresponding feature is fully

How Can Hybrid Cars Have Affected The Automobile Industry
Hybrid and electric cars have affected the automobile industry by using alternative energies other than
fuel and reducing the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted into the atmosphere. Like everything,
there are many advantages and disadvantages to having a hybrid or an electric car. The first electric
car was built in Scotland by Robert Anderson in 1839. (Berman, 2011) Over the years there were little
improvements but sometime between 1890 and 1910, there were significant improvements in the
battery technology that were made by H. Tudor, Edison, and Junger. (Berman, 2011) According to
(Berman, 2011) the first car to be labeled as a hybrid car was made by the Austrian Dr. Ferdinand
Porsche. It used an internal combustion engine that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nowadays, most modern electric cars contain a lithium ion battery. Some electric cars do still use the
lead acid battery and gas powered cars also use the lead acid battery to help start the engines. (Shahan,
2014) Like the hybrid car, the electric car has a lot of advantages to owning one as well. One of the
huge advantages to owning an electric car is that zero gas if required for the car to run. (Rinkesh,
2016) So instead of potentially spending thousands of dollars on gas each year, you could end up
spending as less as five hundred forty dollars a year to charge your vehicle. It is also possible to get
money back from the government for going green and using an electric car. (Campbell, 2014) The
electric car is also a great advantage for the environment. Since the electric car doesn t use gas and
runs on a fully electric powered engine, they are very eco friendly. They don t emit any toxic gases,
smoke, or any other fumes into the atmosphere. (Rinkesh, 2016) This makes the electric car even
better than the hybrid car because the hybrid car still produces

Medullary Reticular Formation Essay
During REM sleep there are numerous output fibers from REM sleep triggering regions that go
towards the medial medullary reticular formation, some of which have synaptic contacts with the
neurotransmitter serotonin, that contain medullary neurons. The efferent pathway that connects to the
pontine REM regions, which have cells of the medial medullary reticular formation, may be important
for moderating sleep specific inhibitory or excitatory postsynaptic effects in motor neurons, and
silencing medullary serotonin containing cells. In the dorsomedial pontine, some axon terminals
emanate from there that make synaptic contacts with medullary reticular formation cells that dispatch
axons to the hypoglossal motor nucleus. These cells mediate REM sleep related inhibitory or
excitatory synaptic potentials that occur in motor neurons associated with REM. ... Show more content

Summary Of The Twelfth Century By Marie De France s...
There are an abundance of stories about fairytales and a knightly men sweeping women off their feet
and rescuing them. This has become a stereotype for the new world as before in earlier times. The
male handles the financial circumstances; they are the ones that save the day when things are going
horrible for the female. The knight in shining armor, for example, always saves the lady. This is shown
in fairytales like Cinderella, written in the 17th century and Rapunzel, written in the 19th century. No
matter what the problem is, the man has to save the day or else he is not a man. In Marie de France s
Lanval, written in the twelfth century, the witty lai satirically challenges the stereotypical roles of
women. Evidently, every story does not contend male dominance. Also the other characters do not live
up to their expectations either; falling short of their glory. The women in the story are given important
roles, and gender roles and position roles are interchanged. Lanval portrays the best man in King
Arthur s court, possessing characteristics such as honesty and he serves King Arthur very well (France
122). Lanval deals with being overlooked by the king and for his generosity, bravery, and beauty is
envied. Usually knightly men who carry themselves very well are put on a pedestal, with the highest
honor and loved by everyone. Lanval receives no recognition and stoops into depression. The
character is defined more by his weakness in monetary value, popularity, and

How Did Alexander Graham Bell Contribute To The Discovery...
Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3rd, 1847. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He went
to Edinburgh Royal High School when he was eleven years old. Bell had left school when he was
fifteen, he never actually graduated. He also attended the University of London for college but his
time in college was cut short due to him and his family moving to Canada in the 1870s also causing
him to not fully graduate from college as well. They left to Canada because they had lost two children
to tuberculosis already. They thought that the only way they could keep Bell from getting tuberculosis
and losing him to it as well they had to leave their home in England. When he was younger he was

March 7th, 1876. Five days after he had found a way to send a simple current through a piece of wire
he had actually found a way to send actual speech. He had talked through a telephone speaking to his

Richard Webster Murder Essay
I, Detective Wilde, am being assigned the opportunity of a lifetime! Solving the murder of Richard
Webster is what s going to determine whether I receive a spotlight in the newspaper. Business has

and each of the suspects. Some background research shows that the Webster Network of co workers

H.T., a misanthrope, Dee, too loyal, Del, a sloth and victim s cousin, Justin, once jailed for computer

Del was worried about Rich removing him from his will taking with it the only life he knew and
treasured. He figured the only way to fix the problem was to kill. (People nowadays!) Anyway, he had
been learning and mastering the skill of mind control and decided to test it out on a fellow who would
be the least likely to be suspected. Dee! During this time, a meeting had been occurring between
Hugh, Justin, and Dee. Dee needed help to debug the system but what Justin planned was to steal the
whole program. Justin went to talk to Rita at the same time that Dee took a bathroom break . She
made sure that H.T. was preoccupied and put on gloves to leave no trace behind. Mind you, she was
being manipulated by Del the whole time. Before the murder, Rita had drugged Rich so that Justin
was able to steal the program. Her reason for betrayal was because he had been the one to break it off,
leaving her the one with hurt feelings. I guess that never settles well with ferocious sirens like her. Dee
came in soon after Rita and finished up the job by strangling Rich with a mouse cord and punching the
daylight out of him. She drops the gloves underneath Hugh s bed and returns to the meeting. It
continues until everyone has returned to their places. Dee, having lost all memory of her actions goes
to ask a question from Rich. She screams and everyone runs over. And that s where my story begins. It
was quite hard to piece together the parts but when it is done, it is refreshing! So when are those

The Effects Of Children With Learning Disabilities On...
Life in a family that has a child with a learning disability is often both complex and challenging. There
are generally many practical as well as emotional issues involved. Many things have to be considered
such as educational, medical, and financial decisions. There are many issues that may arise from
having a child with a learning disability such as family stress, parenting discrepancies, negative
reactions from extended family members, difficulty in interacting with the school, and mixed effects
upon siblings (Dyson, 2010). In this essay I will discuss the main points of Dyson s article,

The article describes the results of these other studies as being inconsistent. This is because the other
studies state that there are higher levels of stress in families with children having disabilities than
those that do not. A study conducted by Dyson found that despite higher degrees of stress, families of
children with developmental disabilities experienced the same level of family cohesion, maintenance
of the family system, and emphasis on personal growth as families of nondisabled children (Dyson,
2010). These studies regarding how disabilities affect the family have conflicting results therefore
Dyson wanted to know if similar results would be found in a study conducted with families that have
learning disabled children. The study that was conducted tested the hypotheses that having a child that
is learning disabled will have a negative effect on family life and on siblings in particular. The study
was conducted through the use of focus groups which conducted in depth group interviews and
consisted of ten families represented by eleven parents. The results of the study concluded that parents
suffered guilt, family stress, as well as martial tension. There were also parents blaming each other as
well as issues in regards to parenting styles. In regards to extended family support many parents felt

Sullivan Airport Research Paper
If you have ever passed through Sullivan Illinois, or live in Sullivan, I am sure you went over railroad
tracks and thought how can these be in this bad of condition? Sullivan is a very small city with a
population of 4,400 people. There are a lot of people passing through Sullivan every day. On their way
to school, work, to the store, or just passing through. For the most part people would have to go over a
railroad track to get anywhere and they are in very poor conditions. There is no bypass to get around
them so it backs up cars, and it doesn t help the trains take around five or more minutes to pass; along
with this I think it is very unsafe for people to drive on, walk over, and cross them. In Sullivan, there
are two railroads, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a serious problem for some people who do not know what the tracks are like and do not know
how slow to go over them. This could cause many accidents and sometimes even serious injuries.
Every time someone drives over a railroad they should not have to slow to down to ten miles an hour
or slower. Yes, it is a good idea too and is safer, but what if they were smooth and flat and people
could just keep going the speed limit. It would make things more efficient and faster to get to places.
If the driver goes too fast over the tracks it could damage their car because the railroad is not flat. For
instance, on my way to school, I have to go over a railroad track and it is in terrible condition. There
are no meters to know if a train is coming, one of the lights are out also to know when a train is
coming, it is so bumpy even going slow doesn t help, I jerk back and forth, and drivers cannot see if
there is oncoming traffic because the tracks are elevated higher than the rest of the road. An easy way
to solve this is lower the tracks to the same level as the road to where it is flat. People walking could
see oncoming traffic and have a better understanding of where to walk. Another way to solve this is
get new tracks to lie on the road. A few years ago, Sullivan got new tracks near where the highway
crosses them in the middle of town and it is so much smoother and easier to drive over then most of
the railroads in town. It might cost some money, but I think it is something the city of Sullivan should

How Does Mcdonaldization Affect Society
McDonaldization is an epidemic infecting the United States as well as consumers all over the country.
George Ritzer s term McDonaldization means The process by which the principles of the fast food
restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as the rest of
the world (Ritzer, 1993:1). McDonaldization is moving stealthily into every facet of our daily lives
and affecting us more negatively than positively. Before one understands Ritzer s coined term
McDonalidization , one must know what McDonalds is first. McDonalds is a multi million dollar
corporation of fast food restaurants serving consumers all around the world. The whole goal of

McDonalds is less of a restaurant, and more of a vicious entity. This friendly restaurant is making its
way into every aspect of our society with poorer education, horrible customer service, and so on. The
problem being that our culture is embracing these traits and behaviors of McDonalds, society is
becoming lazier and focusing on quantity instead of quality. There are four dimensions of
McDonaldization that highlight how it is impacting societies worldwide: efficiency, calculability,
predictability, and control. Efficiency is getting from one place to another the quickest way possible,

Essay on The History of Microsoft
The History of Microsoft
Historians categorize blocks of time with the discovery of certain raw materials that humans utilized.
The Bronze Age and the Iron Age were two periods in human history that proved through the
discovery of artifacts that humans learned to harness these raw materials ingeniously. The Industrial
Revolution of the late nineteenth century brought the discoveries of the Bronze and Iron Ages to new
heights, and the advent of the locomotive, automobiles, cargo ships and airplanes were the most
evident by products of such raw materials. Use of these by products from the earth s raw materials

Speech About Naps
As a child, it is common for one to fight not to take a nap. Children do not like being told to nap. At
some point, however, often in one s teen or young adult years, one generally grows to appreciate an
afternoon nap, and even to view it as a luxury. Yet, it may still remain stigmatized in some people s
minds that napping is just for young children. In addition, in a typical adult s daily life, he does not
have time to stop his day and lie down to nap for two hours. He is too busy at work, or taking care of
other responsibilities he has. In more recent years, however, researchers have begun to observe
incredible benefits to midday naps, such as improved performance, mood, and memory. These
observations have lead researchers to ask a few questions on how a person should run his day. What
are the advantages of a midday nap? What are its disadvantages? For how long should a person ideally
nap in order to avoid negative effects? What are the ideal conditions for napping? An afternoon nap ...

Comparing Noah s Ark And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
There were many stories written in Mesopotamia about a worldwide flood. One was called Noah s
Ark, and the other was called The Epic of Gilgamesh. In both, a god sent down a flood that was meant
to wipe out all life, especially the human race. In both stories, A man is contacted by God and is told
to build a boat for him and his family to survive the flood. The man is told to bring some of each
animal onto the boat. In Noah s Ark the man is Noah, and in The Epic of Gilgamesh, the man is
Utnapishtim. In Noah s Ark, the flood lasted for 140 day and nights, while in The Epic of Gilgamesh,
The flood was only seven days and nights. In Noah Ark, god then feels pity for man and promises
never to try to hurt the species as a whole again. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, God also feels pity for
man and makes the only surviving humans, Utnapishtim and his family, immortal. Based on these
stories and more, the flood happened but only in the Middle Eastern area, therefore the stories are not
true. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

only one family, and no not enough room for every single species of animals and plants. So first of all,
there would be no way that every species would survive. Also, even if there was somehow each

Power Of Music In The 1960s
Music not only functions as a mean of recreation and pleasure. In fact, music has the capacity to unite
people and make change happen. All throughout history, music s compelling rhythms and melodies
accompanied with meaningful lyrics have been the backbone of many social movements. The power
of music has been long recognized, Plato in his Republic described it as Any musical innovation is full
of danger to the whole state, and ought to be prohibited. When modes of music change, the
fundamental laws of the state always change with them . Plato understood the potential danger of a
rebellion inspired by music and therefore, banned it altogether from his state.

OnDemand client programs operate on personal computers running on Windows. Using the client

view, print, and fax copies or pages of documents, and attach electronic notes to pages of a document.
OnDemand servers manage control information and index data, store and retrieve documents and
resource group files, and process query requests from OnDemand client programs. The documents can
reside on disk, optical, and tape storage volumes.
When a user submits a query, the client program sends a search request to the OnDemand library

Mission Statement On Community And Community Service In...
I hope you are doing well. As one of the members of the youth, I would like to address a concern of
mine involving the youth group. Our church s mission statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a
whole, I feel that the youth group is lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service
important to our church, I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in community outreach
to promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in more community
outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and promote our
church s presence in our community.
Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all about having the
coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes seems
as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very much
embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have
become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think
over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is it not our job as a
youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and better ourselves. To overcome and rise
above the low expectations we typically have. This is why I believe creating and promoting
community outreach opportunities is so important.

Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were the ideal teenage kids, they played sports as kids, but grew out of

Public Reason Revisited
In The Idea of Public Reason Revisited (1997) Rawles focuses on the concept of public reason,
exploring in this particular text how it can fit in the context of our political society full of different
overlapping religions, as well as its place in influencing the family when the family is considered as a
part of society as a whole. Contentious issues like same sex marriage and abortion help demonstrate
clearly the idea of public reason and how it is hard to walk the fine line between being a member of a
faith and a citizen of a society.
The basic idea of public reason is that because of the innate pluralism present in a society that has so
many different religions and philosophies, only generally agreed upon values may be used in
determining how a government governs its citizens. It specifies at the deepest ... Show more content

At its essence, this means to attempt to work together with others for mutual benefit and Rawles is
correct in considering necessary for public discourse. If a member of society is stuck trying to
convince others of their particular whole truth , that their whole religion is correct, and view the
political landscape as a battleground of good vs. evil, friend vs. foe, then they reject this concept of
reciprocity. Ultimately, those who reject...reciprocity will of course reject the very idea of public
reason (442). This principal of reciprocity is important to keep in mind when considering contentious
issues like same sex marriage or abortion. For many, their beliefs on these issues are greatly
influenced by the particular religion or philosophy they follow and have reasons for disagreeing with
these practices based on said religion. In order for these people to present their views in a way that can

Essay on Should the United States School Schedule Be...
The Board of Education wants to add hours to the school schedule. The problem proposed is American
student test scores are falling behind counties in Europe and Asia. To see how more time in school will
affect students and test scores, schools in Iowa, North Carolina, and California have increased the time
some students spend in class. Some parents and faculty members think extending the school year into
the summer could help American students compete academically with other countries, but the school

rallies and rock music could not do, it brought all the different cultures on the dance floor dancing the
night away.
To understand disco music and why it was popular in the 1970s to 1980s, one must understand the
genre disco. Disco is defined as a style of popular music for dancing, usually recorded and with
complex electronic instrumentation, in which simple, repetitive lyrics are subordinated to a heavy,
pulsating, rhythmic beat. ( disco )
The musical styles of Disco originated in the East Coast parts of the United States. It began to hit the

The Epidemic Of Infectious Diseases Essay
For thousands of years, infectious diseases have had a strong influence over human populations by
challenging the immune system to continuously adapt to new virulent strains. With the advantage of
reproducing more rapidly than the human immune response, microorganisms that cause even minor
infections can prove to be fatal (Parham, 2015). Over time, outbreaks such as The Great Plague have
threatened to bring an end to society. Without the ability to contain these diseases geographically and
provide means of prevention, they run the risk of wiping out the human race completely. When
considering economic costs, the vast numbers of individuals who fall ill due to an epidemic can
increase healthcare costs as well as decrease labour markets. Indirect costs as a result of public
actions, such as fleeing the area of outbreak, can contribute to economic damage (Barker Bacon,
2015); not to mentioned the increased likelihood of transferring the disease from one area to another.
Two infectious diseases that are of continuous interest today, HIV/AIDS and Ebola, will be contrasted
in terms of their outcomes and possible alternatives to tackling similar diseases in the future. Both an
economic and social lens will be utilized in order to provide an analysis that covers all implications of
the disease.
Beginning in the early 20th century in Africa, a retrovirus known as the Human Immunodeficiency
Virus (HIV) presented itself; characterized by an attack on the hosts immune system

Family And Heroin Analysis
When it comes to this topic I am not that knowledgeable on heroin. My family and I haven t went
through something significant like using heroin or any kind of drugs like that. What I do know this
reminds me of when last semester we had a panel on Heroin at our University in the MPR room.
When I was there I listen and heard how can destroy a family. A cop had a son who was using heroin,
and he tried to help him as best as he can. The son later on in the story went to rehab to get clean, and
he was successful in doing that. The son was also at the panel with is father the cop as a surprise
ending. So from what I know is Edinboro, and Erie are taking steps to address heroin going out
making it known. Telling people heroin is back with a force.

The Important Of Being Earnest By Oscar Wilde
Seiryu Hayashizaki
Mr. Todd
Language and Literature
10, January, 2018
Q A
Wilde wrote his play during the Victorian era because of the ridiculous manners that occurred during
this era. The Important of Being Earnest was a satire about Victorian society, which means Wilde was
criticizing Victorian society. During this era, the most important factor of living was your social class,
such as your family relationships and your wealth. In the play, Jack said: Between seven and eight
thousand a year. (Wilde, 992). Lady Bracknell said that this income was satisfactory, but when Jack
said he had no family, Lady Bracknell gave up on Jack. What she wanted was not only a higher
reputation, but a higher social class. Wilde wrote this satire about Victorian ... Show more content on

He is making fun of the extras who use excessive efforts in order to gain attention from the director.
They want to get one short line of dialogue to read in the movie. Alford wrote this story in a first
person point of view. He was actually one of the extras in the movie Godzilla . I think Alford writing
this story in a first person point of view makes him seem more sympathetic toward the extras because
he is one of them. They are so desperate to get one short line of dialogue from the director. Zilla
monster ate me baby! (Alford, 1000). Alford tried a Cockney accent which didn t work. He is being
sympathetic to extras because he is one of them. He shares the same perspective.
In the story, Big Kiss , Alford used a lot of dialogue to express his feelings. This dialogue added
humorous factors to the story. However, the inner thoughts of Alford also increased the humor of the
satire. I love this work. I would be hard pressed to recount any event from my personal or professional
life that more accurately typified the phrase crazy fun. (Alford,999). Even though Alford thinks being
an extra is very stupid, he is saying he loves this job, which means Alford is being sarcastic about his

##ism Of Modernism In Virginia Woolf s Modern Fiction
In her essay Modern Fiction Virginia Woolf provides an abstract analogy, in order to explain human
existence, Life is not a series of gig lamps symmetrically arranged; life is a luminous halo . Despite
Woolf s intentions being fixed in addressing the centric qualities of life, her comment unintentionally
summons a suitable definition for the modernist movement. Modernism is comprehensive it is a halo.
A halo, comprised of many different sub genres such as, Expressionism, Dadaism, and Vorticism, to
mention but a few. This makes defining the movement, in short; arduous. However, Woolf s metaphor
of life as a halo mirrors modernism as her statement is as all encompassing and open to interpretation
as the movement itself. In addition to this, her comment also presents the reality of the modernist
movement, for if her employment of life were to be replaced with modernism in her statement, it
would still hold true. Modernism is not a series of gig lamps symmetrically arranged. It is instead a
fluid movement which begs for symbolic interpretation. A necessity, provided by Woolf in her halo
analogy. Despite the range of the movement and the diversity of its sub genres, there are some
discernible traits in the classic modernist text. The aim of this essay is to explore one of the primary
traits of the modernist movement; symbolism. Modernist writers, T.S Eliot and Virginia Woolf both
employed the practice of symbolism. Furthermore, the fundamental question of this essay with the

Reflective Essay For College
I believe that one of my greatest strengths is my diversity of backgrounds. In college, my contrasting
majors of Political Science and Theatre gave me the opportunity to explore topics both analytical and
creative in nature. I was heavily involved in our university s Theatre program, yet at the same time
was able to pursue internships with a political campaign and with the House of Representatives, as
well as remain active in the school s Music and Digital Media Arts departments. I graduated cum
laude and would go on to participate in both the political and Theatre communities of the Twin Cities
on both an amateur and professional level. This background gives me a perspective that is relatively
unique, compared to those who may have studied specifically in Business or Human Resources
programs for their secondary education.

Women s Rights And Responsibility Of Greek Women
I can say it is hard to see how in the Ancient Greece 1600 328 BC, Greek Citizen Women s lives were
largely restricted in many different ways. I think that Greek women are more respectable when they
are married and invisible, because it is a way that a man can show some type of authority and
masculinity by having their women invisible with no rights, and education. I believed that women
once they are willing to be prostitutes men s can say that female are not elective to be an honorable

The United States Justice System
Officers in a Texas McDonald s parking lot saw a black man and a white man in the process of
exchanging seats on a road trip from Florida to California, while leaving the parking lot; the officer
implied that the man driving did not use his right turn signal. The men alleged that their privacy was
invaded when the vehicle was searched without a warrant or permission from the driver. When one of
the men attempted to video tape the incident on a cell phone he was told to stop. The term driving
while black has been used to describe the practice of law enforcement officers to stop African
American drivers without probable cause (Weatherspoon, 2004). The United States Justice System is
based upon a flawed designed through miseducation of students in the school system, maintaining of a
slave mentally in the prison system, and the perceptions of African Americans in America.
Currently, the Public School System is readying African American for a life in prison. Today, many
schools have been issued metal detectors and excessive cameras for monitoring students. I believe that
African American Students are not being prepared for college by high school faculty and staff. Dr.
Carter G. Woodson published a book called The Miseducation of the Negro in his book he explains
how miseducation leaves many African American students unprepared for a life of competition with
their racial counter parts. Woodson stated dooming the Negro to a brainwashed sense of self

He Touched Her Again
Rachel sounded so weak on the phone. When his eyes landed on her, he couldn t help to notice bruises
on her face and body. He didn t see the happiness in her eyes he always saw. Her eyes were full of hurt
and tiredness. Finn knelt to pick her up gently, Rachel, what the fuck happened? Finn, my legs hurt so
much I don t think I can walk. Rachel s eyes were starting to water. She didn t know how to tell him.
She laid her head on Finn s lap while he was deep in his thoughts. His mind wandered until she
decided she was ready to speak. He blurted out questions that were on his mind, but she didn t answer.
I m so scared, Finn. She whispered. Rachel, I can t help you if you don t tell me why you re here and
why is your face and body so bruised up. I m so sorry. I should ve listened to you a long time ago
when you said not to wear shirts that expose my chest. I know we broke up, but I don t know where to

Street Robbery Is A Most Frightful Crime
National Bureau of Investigation defines robbery as the attempting or taking one s personal property
by force, threat or violence. The most important evidence in a robbery is putting the victims in fear of
taking his/her belongings by force. Some crimes of robbery are giving death threats to the victim. It is
not robbery when the crimes are intentionally spreading rumors and scandals of the victims in the past.
Another reason when they are in the spirit of alcohol or drugs. If the victim was threatened to take his
or her important belongings, this is the time it will be called as robbery. If the person was taken
important belongings from his body parts or from the cloth he or she wears without consent then it is a
robbery. (Feeney et al., 2002) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Jackson And Thomas Jefferson

US History to 1877

Critical Essay 2 For my second critical essay in this course I have elected to tackle the subject of the
lives, attitudes, and presidencies of Andrew Jackson and Thomas Jefferson. I will compare the two and
state how they are alike and how they are different. Then the last thing I will do is choose and explain
who I believe was the more effective leader. Both were very influential and effective presidents in the
development of the early United States, but Thomas Jefferson was the more effective leader in my
humble opinion. Andrew Jackson born March 15, 1767 somewhere between the border of North and
South Carolina. During the Revolutionary War he acted as a courier at the age of 13 and was later

Then later he became a lawyer and helped with the founding of the state of Tennessee. He was a slave

received his first appearance in the national spotlight during the War of 1812. He played a major role
in the United States acquisition of Florida from Spain. In his political career he served on both the
House of Representatives and then the Senate. He was nominated for president in 1824 but lost to
John Quincy Adams. He was nominated again in 1828 and this time was successful. Jackson went
through a conflict with the state of South Carolina wanting to secede from the Union because of the
Tariff of Abominations. Which was that he denied the right to any state to secede or nullify any federal
law. All of this ended when he threatened to use military force if South Carolina or any other state
tried to secede. He was very opposed of the

Cleopatra XII Philopator
The final ruler in the Macedonian dynasty, Cleopatra XII Philopator, or more widely known simply as
Cleopatra, is widely agreed have been incredibly charismatic and highly intelligent. After inheriting a
weakened country with an empty treasury, Cleopatra was still able to promote trading links with
countries as far away as India, thus much improving the country s economic situation. Not only was
one of her main foreign policy goals was to prevent Rome s domination of Egypt, but she was also
able to help revive Egypt s economy and contemporary Egyptian sources regarding Cleopatra s rule
(though admittedly, there are not many) also suggest the the pharaoh was incredibly popular with the
Egyptian people (Hill), and in 35 B.C.E, she even took the epithet Philopatris, meaning one who loves
her country, (Burstein xxii). However it is not her accomplishments or the love of her country that she
is remembered for, but for her beauty; or rather, her rumored beauty. Today, even with so much
evidence pointing to the queen having been much more average looking, the ... Show more content on

Wanting to avoid yet another Roman civil war, Octavian did not want to pit Romans against Romans,
and so he instead chose to ignore Antony and focus Rome s suspicion and hostility on Antony s wife
Cleopatra instead (Schiff). Two themes dominated the propaganda spread by Octavian. The first being
that Cleopatra had used sex to ensnare Antony and lure him away from his wife (and Octavian s
sister), Octavia, causing him to become totally subservient to the Egyptian queen who was now
forcing him to oppose Rome s best interests by giving Cleopatra and her children Roman territories;
and the second, and arguably worse, theme was that Cleopatra s true goal was not to secure the
welfare of Egypt, but the subjection of Rome to Egypt (Burstein

Analysis Of The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein
In the text The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein, he wrote about a tree and a boy, which didn t really
mean that he decided to write a book about a boy who received items from a tree, he used the tree to
replace it as someone who loves the little boy. The author wanted to convey an idea of how you should
appreciate the sacrifices the people makes for you. Other people makes sacrifices for you to make you
happy. They are being generous to others. This is what Shel Silverstein wanted to convey through the
book The Giving Tree. You can tell that Shel Silverstein wanted his readers to think of the idea of
appreciating the sacrifices other people makes for you because he continuously write how the tree was
happy when she gave away and made sacrifices to make the boy happy. It made her happy and she
didn t expect anything back from the boy.

What he asked the tree for wasn t what he really what the boy needs, he is asking for what he wants
and not appreciating it. This is evident when the text states, I want to buy things and have fun. I want
some money. It also states, I want a house to keep me warm. I want a wife and I want children. Later
on in the text it states, I want a boat that will take me far away from here. As you can see, what the
boy asks is not out of need, it is out of want and he doesn t do anything that shows the appreciation of
how generous the tree is in giving him what he wants. The author shows that the tree doesn t feel
appreciated by the boys attitude by saying, And the tore was happy... but not really. This shows that
even though the tree was usually always happy when she gave away herself to the boy, this time she w
s still happy because she helped someone but she was a little sad at the way the boy kind of ignored

Suzy McHullivan was a cheerful young girl with braids as long as the sun s rays. She gracefully
strolled around in a beautiful, fluffy, and pale blue dress. Lucky for her, she was friends with Johnny
Hudson, the son of Captain Henry Hudson of England. Johnny wore a hat as furry as a mother bear s
cub, and a coat made out of splendid material. Captain Hudson, or Mr. Hudson as Suzy called him,
always dressed to look as a king. Suzy and Johnny were on an adventure of a lifetime, with Mr.
Hudson holding the ship s wheel.

to cut the dangerous cubes, so we may be freed. He replied, looking out into the ocean. Oh, Mr.
Hudson. Could I help to do so? I asked as the idea came sailing into my head. Mr. Hudson laughed
and turned to the crew. MEN! All men... My hopes were fading away until a second later, Johnny
came running up to me. My father needs help. He doesn t want the men to fall in while cutting the ice.
Do you have any ideas? Indeed, I do! We rushed over to Mr. Hudson on the deck filled with worried
crew members. Mr. Hudson, I have an idea. I said. You should attach rope onto the crew members so
they won t fall into the rushing waters while they cut the ice. I smiled as I spoke. Mr. Hudson

  • 2. Proteus Vulgaris Microbiology Proteus vulgaris #12 The importance of identification of a certain microorganisms can range between a life threatening diseases to a creation of certain antibiotic. Understanding the principals of living microbes and identifying my unknown bacteria through numerous biochemical and metabolism tests, with the outmost confidence, Proteus vulgaris had the precise qualifications. The point of this report is to further explore the identification of my unknown bacteria by revealing the results of the experiments and comparing them to the other six known bacteria: Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Alcaligenes faecalis, Escherichia coli, and Proteus vulgaris that were used in the lab, as well as comparing and ... (Harley, 2011, pp. 102 103) Sucrose and lactose serve as a fermentable carbohydrate sources which promote its growth of fecal forms and provide color change differentiation. (Harley, 2011, p. 104) Therefore, if E. coli is being platted on the EMB, after plate s incubation period, it should produce a green metallic sheen on the agar due to the bacteria being a strong fermenter. My unknown bacteria tested positive for growth, and agar was fermented reddish burgundy in color. Subsequently, the unknown bacteria was later inoculated with a sterilized loop into the liquid tryptic soy broth and incubated at an appropriate temperature. Its results were used for proper identification of turbidity, spots and flocculation. (BD™ Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB), 2008) The results of the unknown were cloudiness and some settlement on the bottom of the tryptic soy liquid. The next step was conducted to find out if all the bacteria, as well as the unknown culture, required oxygen for growth, varying from an aerobic environment, where bacteria needs oxygen to grow, to facultative anaerobic environment, where bacteria will grow either with or without oxygen but better in its presence. All the bacteria, along with the unknown, were separately inoculated and tested. My unknown culture results tested positive for growth in facultative anaerobic environment. In the next sequence of lab experiments, the results of unknown bacteria were determined by glucose fermentation, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Homelessness And Homelessness National reports estimate that about two percent of the world s population, are homeless and more than ten times that amount, or twenty percent, may lack suitable housing (Chamie J., 2017). There is a two way relationship between homelessness and mental health, such that the circumstances created by persons mental health problems can cause them to become homeless or homelessness may lead to the development of a mental health problem (Mental Health Foundation, 2015). Shelter is one of the minimum core human rights of an individual (O Hare et al., 2016). Thereby the lack of it is often the main focus when it comes to the problem of homelessness. However, there are other minimum core human rights to consider when it comes to homelessness, which include the right to water, food, sanitation and healthcare (O Hare et al., 2016). All of these minimum core rights, not just shelter, need to be addressed with the problem of homelessness and mental health. I believe the BasicNeeds model, which empowers persons with mental health problems by working with then rather than for them can be used as a human right based approach to dealing with mental health in homeless populations. The factors that lead homelessness are complex with the lack of services and facilities for persons with mental illness being one the contributing factors (Chamie J., 2017). When examining homelessness through the lens of the minimum core human rights, persons not only lack shelter, but also regular access to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The History And Political Causes Of The Cold War The Cold War refers to an era of U.S. history from roughly 1945 to 1990. Although the U.S.S.R. and the U.S. fought ideological proxy wars in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, this era is referred to as the Cold War because the United States and Soviet Union never actually engaged in war themselves. The origins of the Cold War can be traced back to the finale of World War II. Beginning with the Yalta Conference, the Allied powers of the Soviet Union, United States, and Great Britain started a discussion concerning post war foreign policies. Specifically, the political system of Poland became an important question for the Big Three . Should Poland be allowed to form a democratically elected government, or should Russia be allowed to occupy Poland and further expand their communist influence? Essentially, this question and many like it characterized the motivation for the Cold War. The United States sought to contain communism while the Soviet Union pushed for both land expansion and political influence across the globe. (CITE) Harry Truman took the office of President just a few months before the end of World War II. Truman inherited a plethora of dilemmas heading into the post War World II era, and he decided to take his stance on international affairs in 1947 with the Truman Doctrine. Essentially, the Truman Doctrine promised that America would personally intervene in order to insure that democracy would remain secure in foreign governments. This was a stark contrast from the popular isolationist paradigm of the 20s and 30s. Furthermore, the Truman Doctrine prompted an unusual act of international involvement when Congress agreed to aid Greek and Turkish militaries in an effort to counter communist influence in these regions. Additionally, Truman s handling of the Korean War is another example of his firm stance of containment. Truman made no qualms about aiding the indigenous troops of South Korea with weapons and troops, but he did openly reject the notion of meeting either China or the Soviet Union in an open land battle. Furthermore, Truman fired General Douglas MacArthur based on the general s strong notion to invade China and reluctance to respect the President s authority. Truman s decisions ... • 5. Internal Revenue Code And Its Effect On The House Of Two... My clients, Charlene and Alton Dutro, have lived in their home for two and one half years. However, the Dutros choose to remodel and enlarge their house. Consequently, their architect cautioned that increasingly strict building and permit restrictions had been in effect since a decade ago when the house was built. As a result, the Dutros decided to demolish their house and rebuild on the property. They did not reside in the house but instead sold it and realized a gain of over $500,000. For calculation on their Federal income tax return, the Dutros reduced the realized gain that exceeded the $500,000 by the $500,000 exclusion of § 121. The IRS issued an income tax deficiency notice because they noted that the Dutros did not satisfy the two out of five years requirement under § 121 (a). Consequently, the present issue is to determine who is correct in this situation. Therefore, I must ascertain if the Dutros satisfied this requirement under § 121 (a). Internal Revenue Code § 121 (a) notes that the $500,000 exclusion for joint returns that the Dutros appropriated would only apply if, during the 5 year period ending on the date of sale or exchange, such property has been owned and used by the taxpayer as the taxpayer s principal residence for periods aggregating 2 years or more. The important phrase to note is that the home has been used by the taxpayer as their principal residence for at least two years. Therefore, the dilemma is that the Dutros rebuilt their home and ... • 6. Moral Split And Respect In Bobbie Ann s Deer Hunter Moral Split and Respect We will always find ourselves in moral split situations. We struggle to make the right decision and hoping that what we decide would be the correct choice. Sometimes our decisions are strictly depended on the notion of self filling prophecy while others are for the sake of philanthropy. We are selfish if the chosen actions turn out to be a negative impact on the majority of people; however, the negativity is unforeseeable. If we know ahead of time that our decisions are going to be harmful to others then more likely than not we would have tried to avoid that complication. Then again, life is unpredictable. It is unpredictable just like the Vietnam War. Americans went into the war with culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Americans at front wanted to show the world that communism must be contained; however, citizens at home thought differently. The Southern Vietnamese didn t want to be governed by such leadership. The Northern Vietnamese wanted imperialism because they believed their way of ruling was superlative and superior. These different perspectives are intensively analyzed in many well written novels and powerful films concerning the Vietnam War throughout the world. With this in mind, the fascinating book that glimpsed at the Vietnam War through a domestic eye is In Country written by Bobbie Ann Mason while the film, Deer Hunter, directed by Michael Cimino provides visual understanding. This domestic eye is from strictly the ones that reside in America; however, we cannot forget the Asian view of this war. With this in mind, The Sorrow of War by Bao Ninh, A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain by Robert Olen Butler, and the two movies; The Scent of Green Papaya directed by Tran Anh Hung and Three Seasons directed by Tony Bui are the best sources that allow us to understand the other view of war. However, regardless of the different views, there is always the questioning of morality. As discussed previously, morality is a choice that is based on individual valuations; therefore, no one should be criticized for his or her decision. With this in mind, ethics are deeply embedded in The Madagascar Plum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His motivators would include, his dad and his uncle which paved his path to go out and discover China, but that s not all, he had 3 daughters, a wife, his mom and dad, and even his grandfather. • 8. Section Of Specimen Days By Walt Whitm A Part Of The Civil... In 1882, Walt Whitman published Specimen Days, a memorandum that encompasses many aspects of the Civil War. A section of Specimen Days is titled, The Million Dead, Too, Summ d Up The Unknown. In this section, Whitman is trying to make sense of the Civil War s incomprehensible destruction. Whitman was having a hard time grappling at the fact that just, so many people were dead, and just how destructive the war was. This was a common problem. Individuals as well as both the Union and the Confederacy were facing problems as they tried to grapple with the enormity of human suffering and loss wrought by the Civil War, which served to wedge the warring parties further apart. The Civil War was full of incomprehensible destruction. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tens of thousands of soldiers from both sides were killed. Most confederate families had to face the death of at least one male family member. In the The Million Dead, Too, Summ d Up The Unknown Whitman explains that our young men once so handsome and so joyous, taken from us the son from the mother, the husband from the wife, the dear friend from the dear friend (Finseth, 258). Thousands of the deceased soldiers were lying on the battlefield, in ditches, at bases of trees abandoned, and floating in rivers. Whitman helps to paint a clear image of all the abandoned corpuses the single graves left in the woods or by the road side, (hundreds, thousands, obliterated) the corpses floated down the rivers, and caught and lodged, (dozens, scores, floated down the upper Potomac, after the cavalry engagements, the pursuit of Lee, following Gettysburgh) some lie at the bottom of the sea the general million, and the special cemeteries in almost all the States the infinite dead (Finseth, 258). Most of the dying soldiers from both the Union and Confederacy, had to deal with the fact that there was no way to identify the bodies, and as a result many of the bodies remain unknown. Therefore, many dying soldiers would place identifying markers on the inside of their uniforms in the hopes that their body would be identified. MI is calculated by taking the difference between entropy of a variable and the conditional entropy. It can be expressed as the Kullback Leibler divergence between the product of marginal distributions $mu_{x}, mu_{y}$ and the product of marginal distribution $mu_{x,y}$. It s mathematically defined at Equ. (ref{MI}). begin{equation}label{MI} MI(x,y)=int mu_{x,y}(x,y)log{frac{mu_{x,y}(x,y)}{mu_{x} (x)mu_{y}(y)}} end{equation} where $x$ and $y$ are two independent variables, where $x$ is a feature vector/variable and $y$ is class label. When the mutual information reaches to zero that means the higher dependency between $x$ and $y$. The higher dependency means the higher mutual information. subsection{Statistical Dependency} The main objective of statistical dependency (SD) is measuring the dependence of feature values on the associated class labels cite{G3}. It also measure weather two feature vectors are simply occurs by chance. SD is mathematically defined at Equ. How Can Hybrid Cars Have Affected The Automobile Industry Hybrid and electric cars have affected the automobile industry by using alternative energies other than fuel and reducing the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted into the atmosphere. Like everything, there are many advantages and disadvantages to having a hybrid or an electric car. The first electric car was built in Scotland by Robert Anderson in 1839. (Berman, 2011) Over the years there were little improvements but sometime between 1890 and 1910, there were significant improvements in the battery technology that were made by H. Tudor, Edison, and Junger. (Berman, 2011) According to (Berman, 2011) the first car to be labeled as a hybrid car was made by the Austrian Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. Some electric cars do still use the lead acid battery and gas powered cars also use the lead acid battery to help start the engines. (Shahan, 2014) Like the hybrid car, the electric car has a lot of advantages to owning one as well. One of the huge advantages to owning an electric car is that zero gas if required for the car to run. (Rinkesh, 2016) So instead of potentially spending thousands of dollars on gas each year, you could end up spending as less as five hundred forty dollars a year to charge your vehicle. It is also possible to get money back from the government for going green and using an electric car. (Campbell, 2014) The electric car is also a great advantage for the environment. Since the electric car doesn t use gas and runs on a fully electric powered engine, they are very eco friendly. They don t emit any toxic gases, smoke, or any other fumes into the atmosphere. • 11. Medullary Reticular Formation Essay During REM sleep there are numerous output fibers from REM sleep triggering regions that go towards the medial medullary reticular formation, some of which have synaptic contacts with the neurotransmitter serotonin, that contain medullary neurons. The efferent pathway that connects to the pontine REM regions, which have cells of the medial medullary reticular formation, may be important for moderating sleep specific inhibitory or excitatory postsynaptic effects in motor neurons, and silencing medullary serotonin containing cells. In the dorsomedial pontine, some axon terminals emanate from there that make synaptic contacts with medullary reticular formation cells that dispatch axons to the hypoglossal motor nucleus. • 12. Summary Of The Twelfth Century By Marie De France s... There are an abundance of stories about fairytales and a knightly men sweeping women off their feet and rescuing them. This has become a stereotype for the new world as before in earlier times. The male handles the financial circumstances; they are the ones that save the day when things are going horrible for the female. The knight in shining armor, for example, always saves the lady. This is shown in fairytales like Cinderella, written in the 17th century and Rapunzel, written in the 19th century. No matter what the problem is, the man has to save the day or else he is not a man. In Marie de France s Lanval, written in the twelfth century, the witty lai satirically challenges the stereotypical roles of women. Evidently, every story does not contend male dominance. Also the other characters do not live up to their expectations either; falling short of their glory. The women in the story are given important roles, and gender roles and position roles are interchanged. Lanval portrays the best man in King Arthur s court, possessing characteristics such as honesty and he serves King Arthur very well (France 122). Lanval deals with being overlooked by the king and for his generosity, bravery, and beauty is envied. Usually knightly men who carry themselves very well are put on a pedestal, with the highest honor and loved by everyone. Lanval receives no recognition and stoops into depression. Del was worried about Rich removing him from his will taking with it the only life he knew and treasured. He figured the only way to fix the problem was to kill. (People nowadays!) Anyway, he had been learning and mastering the skill of mind control and decided to test it out on a fellow who would be the least likely to be suspected. Dee! During this time, a meeting had been occurring between Hugh, Justin, and Dee. Dee needed help to debug the system but what Justin planned was to steal the whole program. Justin went to talk to Rita at the same time that Dee took a bathroom break . She made sure that H.T. was preoccupied and put on gloves to leave no trace behind. Mind you, she was being manipulated by Del the whole time. Before the murder, Rita had drugged Rich so that Justin was able to steal the program. Her reason for betrayal was because he had been the one to break it off, leaving her the one with hurt feelings. I guess that never settles well with ferocious sirens like her. Dee came in soon after Rita and finished up the job by strangling Rich with a mouse cord and punching the daylight out of him. She drops the gloves underneath Hugh s bed and returns to the meeting. It continues until everyone has returned to their places. Dee, having lost all memory of her actions goes to ask a question from Rich. She screams and everyone runs over. Sullivan Airport Research Paper If you have ever passed through Sullivan Illinois, or live in Sullivan, I am sure you went over railroad tracks and thought how can these be in this bad of condition? Sullivan is a very small city with a population of 4,400 people. There are a lot of people passing through Sullivan every day. On their way to school, work, to the store, or just passing through. For the most part people would have to go over a railroad track to get anywhere and they are in very poor conditions. This is a serious problem for some people who do not know what the tracks are like and do not know how slow to go over them. This could cause many accidents and sometimes even serious injuries. Every time someone drives over a railroad they should not have to slow to down to ten miles an hour or slower. Yes, it is a good idea too and is safer, but what if they were smooth and flat and people could just keep going the speed limit. It would make things more efficient and faster to get to places. If the driver goes too fast over the tracks it could damage their car because the railroad is not flat. For instance, on my way to school, I have to go over a railroad track and it is in terrible condition. There are no meters to know if a train is coming, one of the lights are out also to know when a train is coming, it is so bumpy even going slow doesn t help, I jerk back and forth, and drivers cannot see if there is oncoming traffic because the tracks are elevated higher than the rest of the road. An easy way to solve this is lower the tracks to the same level as the road to where it is flat. People walking could see oncoming traffic and have a better understanding of where to walk. Another way to solve this is get new tracks to lie on the road. A few years ago, Sullivan got new tracks near where the highway crosses them in the middle of town and it is so much smoother and easier to drive over then most of the railroads in town. It might cost some money, but I think it is something the city of Sullivan should invest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Public Reason Revisited In The Idea of Public Reason Revisited (1997) Rawles focuses on the concept of public reason, exploring in this particular text how it can fit in the context of our political society full of different overlapping religions, as well as its place in influencing the family when the family is considered as a part of society as a whole. Contentious issues like same sex marriage and abortion help demonstrate clearly the idea of public reason and how it is hard to walk the fine line between being a member of a faith and a citizen of a society. • 40. The Epidemic Of Infectious Diseases Essay For thousands of years, infectious diseases have had a strong influence over human populations by challenging the immune system to continuously adapt to new virulent strains. With the advantage of reproducing more rapidly than the human immune response, microorganisms that cause even minor infections can prove to be fatal (Parham, 2015). Over time, outbreaks such as The Great Plague have threatened to bring an end to society. Without the ability to contain these diseases geographically and provide means of prevention, they run the risk of wiping out the human race completely. When considering economic costs, the vast numbers of individuals who fall ill due to an epidemic can increase healthcare costs as well as decrease labour markets. Indirect costs as a result of public actions, such as fleeing the area of outbreak, can contribute to economic damage (Barker Bacon, 2015); not to mentioned the increased likelihood of transferring the disease from one area to another. Two infectious diseases that are of continuous interest today, HIV/AIDS and Ebola, will be contrasted in terms of their outcomes and possible alternatives to tackling similar diseases in the future. • 43. ##ism Of Modernism In Virginia Woolf s Modern Fiction In her essay Modern Fiction Virginia Woolf provides an abstract analogy, in order to explain human existence, Life is not a series of gig lamps symmetrically arranged; life is a luminous halo . Despite Woolf s intentions being fixed in addressing the centric qualities of life, her comment unintentionally summons a suitable definition for the modernist movement. Modernism is comprehensive it is a halo. A halo, comprised of many different sub genres such as, Expressionism, Dadaism, and Vorticism, to mention but a few. This makes defining the movement, in short; arduous. However, Woolf s metaphor of life as a halo mirrors modernism as her statement is as all encompassing and open to interpretation as the movement itself. In addition to this, her comment also presents the reality of the modernist movement, for if her employment of life were to be replaced with modernism in her statement, it would still hold true. Modernism is not a series of gig lamps symmetrically arranged. It is instead a fluid movement which begs for symbolic interpretation. A necessity, provided by Woolf in her halo analogy. Despite the range of the movement and the diversity of its sub genres, there are some discernible traits in the classic modernist text.
