The Problem with Teenage Childbearing in the United States
Teenage childbearing is serious social problem in the United States. The rates of teen parenting are at
is lowest, but the numbers still remain an issue. Teen parenting has been associated with negative
outcomes for the parents and their children. Many teenage parents and their families are unaware of
the disparities when becoming a teen parent. With outcomes of teen childbearing being identified, teen
pregnancy prevention needs to be further addressed. Addressing teen pregnancy and methods of
prevention will help strengthen families and promote healthy development in the future. Evidence
based teen pregnancy programs, parent involvement, and community involvement need to be
implemented to help decrease teen pregnancies and rates and sexual risk behaviors; a comprehensive
approach would be the most beneficial for youth.
Over the last two decades teen birth rates have declined, however the rates of teen births remain to be
higher in the United States than any other developed county. Teen birth rate is the number of births per
1,000 mother s ages 15 to 19 years old. Teen parenting has been associated with many negative
outcomes for teen parents and their children. Low rates of maternal education, low incomes, single
parenthood, and subsequent births are some of the negative outcomes for teen parents. Children of
teen parents also have negative outcomes associated with poor school performance, higher risks of
child maltreatment, higher incarceration rates, and an

Summary Of The Liebeck V. Mcdonald s Restaurants Case
The Liebeck vs. McDonald s Restaurants case was one of the biggest tort reform cases. A tort is a term
used for a personal injury, which allows the injured party to receive compensation for injuries and
damages. The American legal system allows anyone in accordance to the law taking the proper steps
to sue a person or corporation that may be responsible for his or her injuries. This case is still one that
people argue today about whether this was negligence on behalf of the plaintiff, while some argue this
was a product liability case. After this famous case was over and utilizing comparative negligence
principles, state bills were created that limited the monetary amount that could be sought in corporate
lawsuits.
On February 27, 1992, seventy nine year old Ms. Stella Liebeck placed a cup of coffee between her
knees while sitting in the McDonalds parking lot because her grandson s car did not have cup holders.
As Ms. Lieback was trying to get the lid off to add her cream and sugar, the coffee spilled on her
sweatpants. Stella initially wrote McDonald s a letter asking them to pay for her ... Show more content

degree burns to her thighs, buttocks, and groin. The burns were so severe they required debridement

Approximately $10,500.00 at the time and future medical expenses was estimated to be approximately

Norms Of Humanitarian Intervention
Constructing Norms of Humanitarian Intervention Martha Finnemore the author of the article
Constructing Norms of Humanitarian Intervention tries to find answer to the question why states make
humanitarian intervention while there are not any geostrategic or economic interests. In the article she
uses different case studies which help us having better undertanding about some key constructivist
concepts. The article consists of three parts where the reader is able to see author s explanations,
arguments, and claims. First part intruduction section begins with the period since end of the cold war
when some states intervened militarily for humanitarian purposes such as allevieting starvation or
establishing order. The answer for why states interven is changing normative context. The author
empasizes the importance of normative context which shapes conseptions of interest. Over the years
the shifting in intervention behaviour causes changing in states behaviour. The changes have occured
accordingly: changes in normative context changing in state behavior. At the end of introduction

The Number Devil Book Report
The Number Devil A Mathematical Adventure is a trade book by Hans Magnus Enzensberger that
talks about the dreams of a boy named Robert. Robert is a typical boy who is in an algebra course. He
hates anything involving numbers and feels intimidated any time that numbers are brought into the
equation so to speak. Robert begins to dream about a Number Devil who starts to teach him the ways
of numbers. Throughout the book, we see the transformation of Robert from a boy who hates working
with numbers to a boy who yearns to learn more about why mathematical properties are true. The
Number Devil slowly begins to introduce to Robert various tricks that he can use in order to solve
problems. The Number Devil begins slowly by talking to Robert ... Show more content on

He started to spend more of his time in doors trying to work out complex math equations and spent
less of his time outdoors doing the things that any boy his age does. While this occurs, the dreams
involving the Number Devil start becoming more complex and involved. Eventually, Robert has
become a very good mathematician and has access to the society of Number Devils . The story ends
with Robert wishing to continue on his journey to mathematical enlightenment. This book, based
solely on appearance, looks best suited for younger readers. Having read the book, I still feel that this
a very good book for younger readers based on the font size of the book and the added illustrations
present. However, some of the content presented in the book could easily be supplemented in an
advanced mathematics course in high school (such as Calculus). I feel that this is a very good book
that can be used in order to introduce younger students to various concepts in mathematics. In
addition, this book can also be used in order to differentiate instruction in more advanced math
courses. Either function is an effective use to teach students more about mathematics in my

Buchi Emecheta and African Traditional Society Essay
Buchi Emecheta s literary terrain is the domestic experience of the female characters, and the way in
which these characters try to turn the table against the second class and slavish status to which they
are subjected either by their husbands or the male oriented traditions. Reading Buchi Emecheta
informs us of the ways fiction, especially women s writing, plays a role in constructing a world in
which women can live complete lives; a world that may provide women with opportunities for
freedom, creativity, self expression, friendship and love. Welesley Brown Lloyd believes that; of all
women writers in contemporary African literature Buchi Emecheta of Nigeria has been the most

(xii) Emecheta s first novels which are set in Nigeria, The Salve Girl, The Bride Price and The Joys of
Motherhood work like a double edged sword. On the one hand, they are portraits of female bondage
(Frank 749), describing African women in their total submergence and enslavement. On the other, they
depict the structures and institutions which empower women and increase their participation in the
socio political, economic and spiritual activities in their community. In these three novels she gives a
picture of women in contemporary society as well as those in the past. The realistic picture provided
by the writer destroys women s contentment with the present state of affairs while giving insights into
the strategies that enable women to survive the oppressions of patriarchal society. Two types of
women are presented in these novels: those that concede to oppression and domination of the
patriarchal society and those who try hard to exploit the existing institutions of their society for their
best. It is mainly in these three novels that the writer intends to show the positive possibilities offered
to women in the traditional African society which helps them have some degrees of authenticity and
also remind the readers of colonialism s responsibilities in depriving women of these rights and thus
aggravating the subjugation. In an Igbo society there are

Social Darwinist Society During The Nineteenth Century
America established itself as a world power by the beginning of the twentieth century. The nation s
industrial sector remained the largest in the world, gasoline cars were introduced, telephones were
used, and cities were growing. Wealth could be attained, and was seen as a tangible goal. With the
many different theories and revolutions endured throughout the nineteenth century, it was certainly an
exciting time to be alive; but only if you were of Aryan race in the upper middle class. Social
Darwinism is a term and social theory formed in the late nineteenth century to describe the idea that
humans compete in a struggle for existence. This competition is also linked to Charles Darwin s
theory of natural selection, resulting in survival of the fittest. The misapplied social term of social
Darwinism is typically used in regards to the belief that wealthy Anglo Saxon s are biologically
racially superior. Many people correlate the social Darwinist theory to the heightened rationalization
of imperialism, racism, and capitalism, and the term typically has a negative connotation due to the
vague understanding of it being attributed to a rejection of social responsibility and compassion.
Active Social Darwinist s believe that government should not aid or interfere with societal human
competition by attempting to regulate the economy or contributing to government funded programs.
The laissez faire political idea is a direct reflection of a hands off capitalist society.

Nathan Hale s Last Words
I only regret that, I have but one life to lose for my country . These were Nathan Hale s last words
before he was hanged by the British army for espionage in 1776. Nathan Hale, born on June 6th, 1755
in Coventry, Connecticut, spent much of his life serving for the public good. After graduating from
Yale University with honors in 1773, he decided to become a teacher and was so for about three years.
However, shortly after Great Britain began imposing a variety of taxes on the colonies in order to pay
off the debt following the French and Indian War, the future Americans came to find themselves
calling for complete independence, beginning the American Revolution. Once the war began, Hale
immediately quit his job and enlisted in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had a job that he liked and he was making a fair amount of money with it. He could have kept this
lifestyle and been very successful. However, he cared so much about the Patriot cause that he decided
to drop everything that he had worked for his whole life and join the revolutionary forces. A little after
a year of joining the Continental Army, commander George Washington came to realize that he
needed to find out where the British were planning to go so his forces can stop them. At that moment
he called upon Lt.Col. Thomas Knowlton to recruit some members of his rank to act as spies.
However, Knowlton did not want to do this, as he told Washington: I m willing to fight the British
and, if need be, die a soldier s death in battle, but as for going among them in disguise and being taken
and hung up like a dog, I ll not do it. This is where Nathan Hale stepped in. He disguised himself as a
Dutch schoolteacher and soon crossed enemy lines in an attempt to find out vital information about
the British army for the Continental forces. Every soldier knew, including Nathan Hale, the dangers of
spying as they were considered to be illegal and if they were caught they could be subject to
execution. This is precisely why Knowlton did not let his ranks partake in this activity. He knew the
risks and how dangerous it was. However, despite Nathan Hale having knowledge of the risks
involved, he put them all aside as he cared about the

How Does Heathcliff The Seeker For Justice
Justice can be viewed in so many ways for the righteousness of others. Many principles have this
understanding in using it for their own. In the book of wuthering heights, there was many response to

Passion In Peter Shaffer s Equus
Equus depicts modern society and its worship of the normal as the true enemy of passion. In the play,
passion can only be achieved by breaking of the chains of normalcy, chains formed by the assumed
authority of establish institutions such as religion and psychiatry. Dysart comes to see normality as the
enemy to passion throughout the play as he observes Alan, his model of abnormality. The characters of
Alan and Dysart are the main tools Shaffer uses to comment on the loss of passion due to destructive
nature of the normal. Passion stems from the individuality that society attempts to cut out of its
citizens and to Alan this individuality is found his instinctual and intense worship of his god, Equus.

In Equus, Alan and Dysart s relationship offers an interesting picture of the journey to enlightenment
about what normality truly means. Dysart s character becomes increasingly complex as he finds
himself drawn to Alan s passionate struggle for worship. Michael Hinden identifies this complexity as
Dysart s trying to dissuade his counterpart from his destructive course (55) using the idea of Dysart
possessing two conflicting parts of himself borne of this struggle between normalcy, which has always
been the driving force of his career, and a new passion not accepted by society s definition of right and
good . Even from the very first scene of the play Dysart himself makes this internal conflict and his
self discovery clear describing himself as all reined up in old language and old assumptions, straining
to jump clean hoofed on to a whole new track of being I only suspect is there (Shaffer 10). This
sentence summarily defines Dysart s journey throughout the story and hints to a bigger message to be
taken from the play: society and its inhabitants are the ones chained by their old ideas just as he is.
Shaffer uses Dysart specifically to make comments on how established institutions such as psychiatry
and religion propagate the concept of normalcy in

Epic Similes In The Odyssey
Homer s epic poem The Odyssey translated by Robert Fagles completely illustrate Odysseus s journey
home after The Trojan War. Separated into twenty four different books, the poem describes the
hardships Odysseus faces and how he overcomes obstacles. Though this poem is composed for
listeners and may seem incomprehensible, Homer includes a plethora of literary devices to help
audiences better understand, follow, and enjoy the context of The Odyssey. Throughout this poem
instances of epic simile, foreshadowing, epithet, and xenia are included to help the poem flow. Epic

Odysseus has been held in Polyphemus s cave for some time now, so he devises a plan of escape.
Odysseus speaks out to his crew for help saying Who d brave it out with me to hoist our stake and
grind it into his eye. (221) This foreshadows Odysseus and his crew grinding the stake into the
cyclops eye, ultimately leading to the crew s escape. As his journey home escalates and challenges
become harder, Odysseus is faced with the ultimatum for the The Cattle of The Sun. Prior to his
decision he is warned Leave the beast unharmed, your mind set on home, and you all may still reach
Ithaca but harm them in any way, and I can see it now: your ship destroyed, your men destroyed as
well, and even if you escape, you ll come home late, all shipmates lost, and come a broken man. (275)
Homer includes the foreshadowing of the blind prophet s statement, informing spectators of the two
possible outcomes based off Odysseus and his crew s choice. Before the slaughter of the suitors has
even occurred, Homer foreshadows the event vaguely. As the suitors continue to disrespect Odysseus
it is brought to their attention that, Once under his own roof, he and your friends, believe you me, won

Objective The objective of the experiment was to prepare a yield of tert butylchloride through a
unimolecular (SN1) nucleophilic substitution reaction. Procedure Part A Preparation of tert Butyl
Chloride A test tube was acquired, and 7 mL of concentrated HCl were added to this test tube through
a graduated cylinder, this was done in the fume hood in order to avoid any noxious fumes from the
sample, which were observed when pouring in the concentrated HCl. After adding the HCl, a glass
pipet was used to add 2.5 mL of tert butyl alcohol to the test tube. It was observed that the alcohol and
HCl separated into two layers distinct layers. The solution was mixed by using the pipet to take the
bottom layer and squirt it onto the top, this mixing process was performed for 15 minutes to allow the
solutions to mix well. Afterwards, the lower aqueous layer of the test tube was removed with the pipet;
it was imperative to remove as much of the lower layer as possible without removing too much from
the top layer. The solution was then washed with water by pouring 2.5 mL of water into the test tube,
letting it sit for about a minute and then removing the aqueous layer again, in order to help the
mechanism for this process. Additionally, about 2.5 mL of sodium bicarbonate 5% were also added to

being signed in November this year. In light of these recent developments and proceeding on the basis
that the Australia China FTA will happen, there is a clear need to critically analyse how it will effect
Australia s Financial Services Sector. I will discuss the internationalisation of the RMB and how
Australian banks will continue to take a more international outlook. I will discuss how advances in

History of relationship A problem of trust
The plan for the Australia China FTA was first crystallised in 2003 upon Chinese President Hu Jintao s
visit to Australia in October 2003.
Australia and China agreed to commence negotiations on the FTA soon after on 18 April 2005,
following consideration of a joint FTA Feasibility Study. The study was completed in March 2005,
and concluded that there would be significant economic benefits for both Australia and China as the
political conditions were mature enough, and because Beijing and Canberra did not have fundamental
differences .
This study however did not foresee a global financial crisis or stable strength of the Australian dollar
and thus the real effect the FTA may have is still unclear. Regardless, China valued Australia as
offering first world goods and services without the political baggage that comes with Americans and
Europeans. While the FTA negotiations have taken a fitful stop start routine over the intervening years
and despite Clive Palmer s recent criticism towards the Chinese suggesting that they were mongrels
who shoot their people and haven t got a justice system , Australia s Abbott Government has
recognised the importance of Australia s relationship with China. Prime Minister Abbott has been a
quick learner in areas of international trade negotiations. He supported views recently in his speech

Mono-Nitration Of Methyl Benzoate Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment was to create a hypothesis concerning what product would produce in
the mono nitration of methyl benzoate. The hypothesis made stated that the product of the mono
nitration of methyl benzoate would be methyl m nitrobenzoate. A nitration reaction was executed and
was used to describe by means of high performance liquid chromatography, (HPLC). My partner and I
obtained concentrated H2SO4 and mixed it with methyl benzoate in a reaction tube in a flicking
manner. A mixture of concentrated H2SO4 and concentrated HNO3 was then made in a second
reaction tube and chilled in ice once mixed by flicking. The H2SO4 and HNO3 mixture was very
slowly added into the methyl benzoate reaction tube. The mixture was stirred and let to cool to about
15Ā°C. We let the mixture warm to room temperature for 15 minutes after the acid mixture was
completely added. The reaction mixture was poured into ice, then vacuumed filtrated with a Hirsch

Living in Jacksonville, NC versus Living in San Diego, Ca
Compare and Contrast Final Draft
Samantha Deal As a military brat, I was born and raised in Jacksonville, North Carolina; and have
lived here for most of my life. Recently our family was stationed in San Diego, California, and the
move was a great eye opener for me. When I moved to San Diego, I was surprised by the diversity of
cultures, the abundance of activities, and how the crowds of people never stopped. It is an excellent
place for people who enjoy being amongst other people; there is never a lack of entertainment day or
night. Jacksonville, North Carolina on the other hand, is more for people who like a relaxed and quiet
family oriented lifestyle. The city of Jacksonville, and Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base are home to
170,000 Marines, Sailors, retirees, and civilians. There are plenty of things to do in Jacksonville, the
only problem is you have to look for them. For example, on the Jacksonville website, there are
seafood festivals to attend, crab boils, and beach events among other things. We have deep sea fishing
for blue marlin with a top prize of $1,000,000 which attracts people from all over the country. People
can join the Clean and Green Jacksonville initiative which entails improving, and maintaining the
parks, roadways, and landscapes. Also, the Sturgeon City Institute is focused on bringing back the
endangered Sturgeon to the New River. In addition, Rails and Trails, it is a jogging and biking path
that starts downtown and ends at Camp Lejeune; and

Auteur In Film Analysis
Question 8: Take one contemporary director and analyse in detail, discuss and debate how they can be
considered to be an auteur. In your discussion refer to the different ways auteur have been discussed in
film studies.
Introduction:
The term of an auteur has been discussed ever since 1950s and even today it is still as much as
evaluative, as it is also pretty vague and unclear. Many scholars and film studies academics took this
topic into consideration and many of them came up with similar, but significantly different
conclusions or felt that some aspect of already existing theories had to be deepened and expanded.
Nevertheless, even today who is an auteur and who can say so, leads to a very heated argufies. In this

Andrew Carnegie Research Paper
Andrew Carnegie Essay written by aliciareagan@neo.tamu.edu A man of Scotland, a distinguished
citizen of the United States, and a philanthropist devoted to the betterment of the world around him,
Andrew Carnegie became famous at the turn of the twentieth century and became a real life rags to
riches story. Born in Dunfermline, Scotland, on November 25, 1835, Andrew Carnegie entered the
world in poverty. The son of a hand weaver, Carnegie received his only formal education during the
short time between his birth and his move to the United States. When steam machinery for weaving
came into use, Carnegie s father sold his looms and household goods, sailing to America with his wife
and two sons. At this time, Andrew was twelve, and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He established many other steel plants, and in 1892, he merged all of his interests into the Carnegie
Steel Company. This act from Carnegie is fitting with one of his most famous quotations, Put all of
your eggs in one basket, and then watch that basket. This firm became one of the greatest industrial
enterprises in America. Carnegie later sold it to J.P. Morgan s United States Steel Corporation in 1901
for $400 million, which would be a little over $4 billion today! After retiring, Carnegie s fortune was
estimated to be as large as half a billion dollars. From that time on, with the philosophy that the rich
have a moral obligation to give away their money, he devoted himself to philanthropy. Although
ironic, this man of great fortune strongly believed in the merits of poverty for the development of
character and work ethic, and determined that wealthy men should not leave their fortunes to their
children, but should give it away, claiming The man who dies thus rich, dies disgraced. The picture of
community service, Carnegie is quoted as saying, Pittsburgh entered the core of my heart when I was
a boy, and cannot be torn out. I can never be one hair s breadth less loyal to her, or less anxious to help
her in any way, than I have been since I could help anything. My treasure is still with you, and how
best to serve Pittsburgh is the question which occurs to me almost every day of my life. Colonel James

Telepathy In Stephen King

Writing 121 2017 2018
Telepathy at its Finest
Stephen King, a world renowned author, has had much success in the genres of horror, science fiction
and suspense. Due to his success, King decided to share some of his tricks of the trade in order to help
aspiring authors with his book On Writing. Before completing this book, writing to me was just a pain.
I remember this one quote that said, If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all
others: read a lot and write a lot (King 145). I proceed to think, well shoot, I don t do either of those
things. No wonder I don t like writing and I m not very good at it. Then as I continued through the
book, I thought back to the part where King described writing as a form of telepathy, and it changed
my whole perspective. Art has always been a way to express yourself and share ideas in my mind. The
idea of writing doing that, and in such a direct way, kind of blew my mind. The more I thought about
it, the more it made sense to me. The writer and the reader were connected through time and space
with these shared thoughts. The best example of this is the rabbit in the cage: The most interesting
thing here isn t even the carrot munching rabbit in the cage, but the number on it s back. . .This is what
we re both looking at, and we all see it. . .We re not even in the same year together, let alone the same
room . . . except we are together (King 106). The freedom that is opened up to the reader when

Katsu Kokichiā€™S Autobiography, ā€œMusuiā€™S Story,ā€ Documents
Katsu Kokichi s autobiography, Musui s Story, documents the life of a samurai in Japan s late
Tokugawa period who adopted the name Musui in his retirement. Katsu is something of a black sheep
within his family, being largely uneducated and deemed unfit for the bureaucratic office s samurai of
his standing were expected to hold. As such, he typifies in many ways the lower ronin, or masterless
samurai, many of whom famously led roaming, directionless lives and wreaked havoc among the
urban poor and merchant classes. The novel addresses the decaying power of samurai throughout the
Tokugawa period and depicts their struggle to find purpose. Throughout the story, Katsu is impacted
by three interconnected systems of power that impact his life ... Show more content on

However, the challenges of this economic power come through forms of temptations that plagued
Japanese men at the time. These include drinking, smoking, gambling, and prostitution. For instance,
during his youth, Katsu was [tricked] into going with [Karoku] to the pleasure quarters in the
Yoshiwara. [He] enjoyed himself immensely and after that went every night. [He] used up all his
money (Musui 44). In this section, Katsu exhibits a lack of self control over his money. His behavior
is representative of many low level samurai throughout Tokugawa Japan. These irresponsible
economic decisions combine with pre existing financial disparity to place samurai largely in debt.
Similarly, these districts were often seen as an escape for samurai and members of the lower class. Just
before Katsu has fled home for the second time, he says To take my mind off my woes, I went to the
Yoshiwara (Musui 60). Many samurai were disheartened by the fact they were indebted to merchants
and had no true purpose in life. As an escape, they fled to districts like the Yoshiwara. Ultimately,
economic power is created by a flourishing economy and is challenged by the temptations of man.
Domestic power comes from family lineage and is used to determine social status/class. The Japanese
class system prohibits individuals from moving between classes to maintain the power of the Daimyo
and Shogun. Moreover, domestic power resides in the level of respect granted to

Theme Of Boo Radley s Shoes In To Kill A Mockingbird
Have you ever wished to help someone but you can t? You can t help them because you don t
understand what they are going through. You need to be in their shoes to understand. In To Kill A
Mockingbird, Scout Finch is narrating her childhood from herself as an adult. Her father is involved in
a big trial, as he is defending an African American during the 1930s. Harper Lee shows the theme of
you never really know a man until you stand in their shoes through the characters Boo Radley, Tom
Robinson, and Bob Ewell. The first way Harper Lee shows this theme is through the character of Boo

Tom Robinson is giving his side of the story during the trial. He says, She d call me in, suh. Seemed
like every time I passed by yonder she d have some little somethin for me to do choppin kindlin , totin

21. He is saying that Mayella called him to help with her chores. He said that every time he passes her
house she always asks him for help with her chores. This proves the theme because we don t know
why Tom decides to help Mayella out. If we were in his shoes we would understand why he decides to
help Mayella out. This theme is also shown when Atticus is telling Aunt Alexandra what happened.
Atticus states, He was running. It was during their exercise period. They said he just broke into a blind
raving charge at the fence and started climbing over (Lee 235). Atticus is sad because of the news that
Tom Robinson has died. He doesn t understand why Tom decided to climb the fence. If Atticus were
in Tom s shoes he might understand Tom s motive for climbing the fence. He would understand that
Tom wants to escape but he is innocent. If Atticus was in Tom s shoes he might understand why Tom
decided to climb over the fence. Atticus would understand the way Tom was feeling when he decided
to climb over the fence. He would also be able to understand why Tom feels the need to help Mayella
with her chores.

Spectroscopy Research Paper
Astronomers can use the light given off by stars for many things. With the light given off by stars they
can see the distance that the star is located from earth. They can also use the light given off by stars to
see what that star is composed of. When something is so hot that it glows, for example stars, it shows
features that can help you decide what it is made of. This is because different things give off a
different spectrum of light when they are burnt to the point that they glow. Each product gives off a
different spectrum, this can be compared to be almost like a fingerprint. Cool gases will also absorb
various wavelengths of light and produce a spectrum with dark lines at different places. With this in
effect, you may observe what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Absorption lines are created when light from something hot like a star passes through a cooler gas,
cancelling out the emission lines the chemicals in the gas would normally create. When you look at
the spectrum of a star, for example, you can see absorption lines because the star s outer atmosphere is
cooler than the central part, explains Watson. in such an analysis of chemical abundances, the
wavelength of each line is treated as fixed. However, this is not true when the star is moving towards
us (the lines are observed at shorter wavelengths, or blueshifted, than those measured in the
laboratory) or moving away from us. If the spectrum of a star is red or blue shifted, then you can use
that to infer their velocities along the line of sight. During the first half of the 19th century, scientists
such as John Herschel, Fox Talbot, and Willam Swan studied the spectra of different chemical
elements in flames. Gradually, the idea that each element produces a set of characteristic emission
lines has become established. Each element has several prominent, and many lesser, emission lines in
a characteristic

How We Are Affected by People s Views of Nature
How people s views of nature have changed over time in the United States of America and how it has
affected us is a great question. Looking back through history makes it simple to answer this question.
People have very different opinions on to what their answer would be. Reading Out of the Woods
edited by Char Miller and Hal Rothman, Dust Bowl: The Southern Plains in the 1930s by Donald
Worstter, Nature s Metropolis: Chicago and the Great West by William Cronon, The Ecological Indian
by Shepard Krech III, and Something s Rising: Appalachians Fighting Mountaintop Removal by Silas
House makes it easy to comprehend and to answer how our views of nature have changed.
Looking all the way back to the early Indians, Shepard Krech III, the author of The Ecological Indian,
the Indians were not the one with nature individuals you thought they were. Most people that first
think of the Indians were one with nature because of movies and old folk tales. They were reckless
and took advantage of their environment. They used more resources than they clearly needed. The
Indians would waste their animals that they hunted. They caused many problems with the ecosystem
involving plants and animals triggered for the use of fire. They involved fire to clear the undergrowth
of the forest. Their reasoning to do this was because it made travel significantly easier, it made a better
area to hunt, and they used it as protection. Many individuals believed that the Indians were
committing a sin by

Evaluating Credibility And Its Impact On The Society Of...
Introduction
When a person reads a source for information the reader wants that information to be reliable so they
could trust the source meaning the reader needs their information source to be credible. Credibility is
important because everyone on the planet could write on a topic, but that does not mean that what they
wrote is true and should be believed in. People who write more often than not have an agenda. To
make the reader feel a certain way or to make them believe in what the author told them too.
Evaluating credibility means looking into the author and their agenda, the publisher to see where the

A tort is a term used for a personal injury, which allows the injured party to receive compensation for injuries and damages. The American legal system allows anyone in accordance to the law taking the proper steps to sue a person or corporation that may be responsible for his or her injuries. This case is still one that people argue today about whether this was negligence on behalf of the plaintiff, while some argue this was a product liability case. After this famous case was over and utilizing comparative negligence principles, state bills were created that limited the monetary amount that could be sought in corporate lawsuits. On February 27, 1992, seventy nine year old Ms. Stella Liebeck placed a cup of coffee between her knees while sitting in the McDonalds parking lot because her grandson s car did not have cup holders. Buchi Emecheta and African Traditional Society Essay Buchi Emecheta s literary terrain is the domestic experience of the female characters, and the way in which these characters try to turn the table against the second class and slavish status to which they are subjected either by their husbands or the male oriented traditions. Reading Buchi Emecheta informs us of the ways fiction, especially women s writing, plays a role in constructing a world in which women can live complete lives; a world that may provide women with opportunities for freedom, creativity, self expression, friendship and love. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (xii) Emecheta s first novels which are set in Nigeria, The Salve Girl, The Bride Price and The Joys of Motherhood work like a double edged sword. On the one hand, they are portraits of female bondage (Frank 749), describing African women in their total submergence and enslavement. On the other, they depict the structures and institutions which empower women and increase their participation in the socio political, economic and spiritual activities in their community. In these three novels she gives a picture of women in contemporary society as well as those in the past. The realistic picture provided by the writer destroys women s contentment with the present state of affairs while giving insights into the strategies that enable women to survive the oppressions of patriarchal society. Two types of women are presented in these novels: those that concede to oppression and domination of the patriarchal society and those who try hard to exploit the existing institutions of their society for their best. It is mainly in these three novels that the writer intends to show the positive possibilities offered to women in the traditional African society which helps them have some degrees of authenticity and also remind the readers of colonialism s responsibilities in depriving women of these rights and thus aggravating the subjugation. With the many different theories and revolutions endured throughout the nineteenth century, it was certainly an exciting time to be alive; but only if you were of Aryan race in the upper middle class. Social Darwinism is a term and social theory formed in the late nineteenth century to describe the idea that humans compete in a struggle for existence. This competition is also linked to Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection, resulting in survival of the fittest. The misapplied social term of social Darwinism is typically used in regards to the belief that wealthy Anglo Saxon s are biologically racially superior. Many people correlate the social Darwinist theory to the heightened rationalization of imperialism, racism, and capitalism, and the term typically has a negative connotation due to the vague understanding of it being attributed to a rejection of social responsibility and compassion. Active Social Darwinist s believe that government should not aid or interfere with societal human competition by attempting to regulate the economy or contributing to government funded programs. The laissez faire political idea is a direct reflection of a hands off capitalist society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nathan Hale, born on June 6th, 1755 in Coventry, Connecticut, spent much of his life serving for the public good. After graduating from Yale University with honors in 1773, he decided to become a teacher and was so for about three years. He could have kept this lifestyle and been very successful. However, he cared so much about the Patriot cause that he decided to drop everything that he had worked for his whole life and join the revolutionary forces. A little after a year of joining the Continental Army, commander George Washington came to realize that he needed to find out where the British were planning to go so his forces can stop them. At that moment he called upon Lt.Col. Thomas Knowlton to recruit some members of his rank to act as spies. However, Knowlton did not want to do this, as he told Washington: I m willing to fight the British and, if need be, die a soldier s death in battle, but as for going among them in disguise and being taken and hung up like a dog, I ll not do it. This is where Nathan Hale stepped in. He disguised himself as a Dutch schoolteacher and soon crossed enemy lines in an attempt to find out vital information about the British army for the Continental forces. Every soldier knew, including Nathan Hale, the dangers of spying as they were considered to be illegal and if they were caught they could be subject to execution. This is precisely why Knowlton did not let his ranks partake in this activity. He knew the risks and how dangerous it was. In the play, passion can only be achieved by breaking of the chains of normalcy, chains formed by the assumed authority of establish institutions such as religion and psychiatry. Dysart comes to see normality as the enemy to passion throughout the play as he observes Alan, his model of abnormality. The characters of Alan and Dysart are the main tools Shaffer uses to comment on the loss of passion due to destructive nature of the normal. In Equus, Alan and Dysart s relationship offers an interesting picture of the journey to enlightenment about what normality truly means. Dysart s character becomes increasingly complex as he finds himself drawn to Alan s passionate struggle for worship. Michael Hinden identifies this complexity as Dysart s trying to dissuade his counterpart from his destructive course (55) using the idea of Dysart possessing two conflicting parts of himself borne of this struggle between normalcy, which has always been the driving force of his career, and a new passion not accepted by society s definition of right and good . Even from the very first scene of the play Dysart himself makes this internal conflict and his self discovery clear describing himself as all reined up in old language and old assumptions, straining to jump clean hoofed on to a whole new track of being I only suspect is there (Shaffer 10). This sentence summarily defines Dysart s journey throughout the story and hints to a bigger message to be taken from the play: society and its inhabitants are the ones chained by their old ideas just as he is. Many samurai were disheartened by the fact they were indebted to merchants and had no true purpose in life. As an escape, they fled to districts like the Yoshiwara. Ultimately, economic power is created by a flourishing economy and is challenged by the temptations of man. Domestic power comes from family lineage and is used to determine social status/class. The Japanese class system prohibits individuals from moving between classes to maintain the power of the Daimyo and Shogun. Moreover, domestic power resides in the level of respect granted to ... • 31. Theme Of Boo Radley s Shoes In To Kill A Mockingbird Have you ever wished to help someone but you can t? You can t help them because you don t understand what they are going through. You need to be in their shoes to understand. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Scout Finch is narrating her childhood from herself as an adult. Her father is involved in a big trial, as he is defending an African American during the 1930s. Harper Lee shows the theme of you never really know a man until you stand in their shoes through the characters Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, and Bob Ewell. The first way Harper Lee shows this theme is through the character of Boo Radley. Scout is talking about the Radley family, and says, The doors of the Radley house were closed on weekdays as well as Sundays, and Mr. Radley s boy was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tom Robinson is giving his side of the story during the trial. He says, She d call me in, suh. Seemed like every time I passed by yonder she d have some little somethin for me to do choppin kindlin , totin water for her (Lee 191). Tom is telling the jury his side of what happened on the night of November 21. He is saying that Mayella called him to help with her chores. He said that every time he passes her house she always asks him for help with her chores. This proves the theme because we don t know why Tom decides to help Mayella out. If we were in his shoes we would understand why he decides to help Mayella out. This theme is also shown when Atticus is telling Aunt Alexandra what happened. Atticus states, He was running. It was during their exercise period. They said he just broke into a blind raving charge at the fence and started climbing over (Lee 235). Atticus is sad because of the news that Tom Robinson has died. He doesn t understand why Tom decided to climb the fence. If Atticus were in Tom s shoes he might understand Tom s motive for climbing the fence. He would understand that Tom wants to escape but he is innocent. If Atticus was in Tom s shoes he might understand why Tom decided to climb over the fence. Atticus would understand the way Tom was feeling when he decided to climb over the fence. He would also be able to understand why Tom feels the need to help Mayella with her chores. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Spectroscopy Research Paper Astronomers can use the light given off by stars for many things. With the light given off by stars they can see the distance that the star is located from earth. They can also use the light given off by stars to see what that star is composed of. When something is so hot that it glows, for example stars, it shows features that can help you decide what it is made of. This is because different things give off a different spectrum of light when they are burnt to the point that they glow. Each product gives off a different spectrum, this can be compared to be almost like a fingerprint. Cool gases will also absorb various wavelengths of light and produce a spectrum with dark lines at different places. With this in effect, you may observe what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Absorption lines are created when light from something hot like a star passes through a cooler gas, cancelling out the emission lines the chemicals in the gas would normally create. When you look at the spectrum of a star, for example, you can see absorption lines because the star s outer atmosphere is cooler than the central part, explains Watson. in such an analysis of chemical abundances, the wavelength of each line is treated as fixed. However, this is not true when the star is moving towards us (the lines are observed at shorter wavelengths, or blueshifted, than those measured in the laboratory) or moving away from us. If the spectrum of a star is red or blue shifted, then you can use that to infer their velocities along the line of sight. During the first half of the 19th century, scientists such as John Herschel, Fox Talbot, and Willam Swan studied the spectra of different chemical elements in flames. Gradually, the idea that each element produces a set of characteristic emission lines has become established. Each element has several prominent, and many lesser, emission lines in a characteristic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. How We Are Affected by People s Views of Nature How people s views of nature have changed over time in the United States of America and how it has affected us is a great question. Looking back through history makes it simple to answer this question. People have very different opinions on to what their answer would be. Reading Out of the Woods edited by Char Miller and Hal Rothman, Dust Bowl: The Southern Plains in the 1930s by Donald Worstter, Nature s Metropolis: Chicago and the Great West by William Cronon, The Ecological Indian by Shepard Krech III, and Something s Rising: Appalachians Fighting Mountaintop Removal by Silas House makes it easy to comprehend and to answer how our views of nature have changed. Looking all the way back to the early Indians, Shepard Krech III, the author of The Ecological Indian, the Indians were not the one with nature individuals you thought they were. Most people that first think of the Indians were one with nature because of movies and old folk tales. They were reckless and took advantage of their environment. They used more resources than they clearly needed. The Indians would waste their animals that they hunted. They caused many problems with the ecosystem involving plants and animals triggered for the use of fire. They involved fire to clear the undergrowth of the forest. Their reasoning to do this was because it made travel significantly easier, it made a better area to hunt, and they used it as protection. Many individuals believed that the Indians were committing a sin by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Evaluating Credibility And Its Impact On The Society Of... Introduction When a person reads a source for information the reader wants that information to be reliable so they could trust the source meaning the reader needs their information source to be credible. People who write more often than not have an agenda. To make the reader feel a certain way or to make them believe in what the author told them too. Evaluating credibility means looking into the author and their agenda, the publisher to see where the information comes from, evidence of bias, uses of sources to support their information, verifiability to see if it still holds context, ...
