Show more

Differences Between Slavery In Ancient Rome And Greece
Third, unlike what we think, Equality between different classes was, therefore, unimportant (15).
According to the education in that period, people are separate to many classes. Upper class is much
more important than a middle class people. A powerful people can command a people without nothing
to do anything they want. This is also why the slavery was allowed in that period.
2.There are several similarities and differences between the slavery in Ancient Rome and Greece.
Greece has separated its slavery into three big categories: public, temple and private. Unlike Greek,
Ancient Roman only employed public and private slaves, without having the third categories, temple.
The public and private slaves in both Rome and Greece are pretty much

Syrian Social Location
More than two hundred thousand Syrians have lost their lives or the lives of love ones in the four
years of armed conflict, which all began with an anti government protests before escalating into a civil
war. More than eleven million of the Syrian people who were not subject to death have been forced
from their homes. Those who are loyal to President Bashar al Assad and those who are against him are
in war, as well as jihadist militants from Islamic State (BBC). Social location is a great representation
of the events that are occurring in this specific location of the world. A social location is defined by
gender, race, social class, age, ability, religion, sexual orientation, and geographic location. So in this

Four in every five Syrians are now living in poverty because of the war and the destruction it has
caused. This has been a tragic and hard time and has had a negative effect on all aspects of the
country. The only option this war has left for the innocent is to flee to the neighboring countries
(BBC).With that being said women and children have risked their lives in dangerous attempts to flee
the country in search of safety. Majority of the people who are fleeing are traveling to Europe in hopes
of sanction. But not all countries/states have been welcoming to these refugees, Gulf States such as
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and have similar religion, language and culture as Syria and they have
more than enough resources to house these people but are not on board. Leaving the country to go to
other geographic locations is an example of hyperdyadic spread. Hyperdyadic spread can be defined
as an event outside of your perimeter that ends up affecting you (Lecture 11/2/2015). The wars going
on in Syria that has led to many killings has caused many people to up and leave in fear for their own

The Case Of A Contract
Page 180 1) The court viewed the situation as if a reasonable individual would consider the offer as
valid. Zehmer s outward expressions and words constituted a genuine offer to sell. The outwardly
demonstrated intent is all the court looks at, not the secret and inward thought of the defendant. A
contract cannot be done in passing or when absent minded. Both parts have to come to mutual
understanding and agreement (Melvin, 2011). Lucy demonstrated her intent by ensuring that details
were in the contract (illustrated by several drafts that were written), and by ensuring both husband and
wife signed the contract (Lucy v. Zehmer Case Brief Summary, 2015). 2) Had Zehmer realized that
Lucy took his offer seriously, he would have informed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another point is that after a month and a fax requesting the written document, Chou answered
immediately and demonstrated that BTT was interested in a written contract. BTT had the contract in
their possession for several months to accept or reject, and did not. 2) The facts that would weigh for
Chou would be that both parties accepted the terms and continued operating as if there were a
contract. Second would be the fact that upon notification of further contract, Chou prepared and
delivered it immediately. It was BTT that deferred the signing without rejecting the contract for
several months. 3) The mail rule and their communication by faster email reveal that they both had
many opportunities within any given period to make adjustments, counter offers, or even reject the
deal without it going on for such a long period (Melvin, 2011). 4) Chou s neglect to follow through
with a contract could make the deal unenforceable. The statute of frauds requires some information to
be written down and signed. If the courts did not take the email that spells out all the terms of the
agreement sent by BTT to Chou as proof of all parties agreement, it could be a dismissed lawsuit
(Melvin, 2011). 5) BTT could avoid the contact under a doctrine of mistake. However, it would be
under the mutual mistake. The mistake that Chou

5p Syndrome Research Paper
Cat Cry Syndrome (5p) Do you know anyone with a genetic disorder? Cri Du Chat Syndrome, which
translates to cry of the cat syndrome in french, is a genetic disorder which is diagnosed when you re
missing your 5th chromosome. Cri du chat, or 5p syndrome is not inherited, but is a random event.
Doctors cannot treat or heal patients with 5p syndrome but there is therapy. There are numerous
symptoms. It s found in all cultural backgrounds and happens in every 1 to 50,000 newborns.
Origin of Discovery: The discovery of 5p syndrome is rather complicated and interesting. It was
discovered by researcher by the name of Jerome Lejeune in Paris in 1963. He was studying the
chromosomes linked to down syndrome when he discovered what causes Cri Du ... Show more

The cat like cry is the most prominent feature and is usually one of the key factors in diagnosing it.
The chromosomes can also be analyzed and they can find the missing or misplaced chromosome. In
this case they would find that the fifth chromosome is missing. They can also do a more detailed test
called the FISH test. FISH stands for Fluorescent in Situ Hybridization, it can detect the deletion.
Who has this disorder: A commonly asked question for all genetic disorders is Who get s it ? The
answer is simple. Anyone can be born with 5p syndrome. 5p syndrome is not more prominent in any
group of people. Since it is a random event that happens in the fetal development it can happen in all
cultures, genders, and ethnicities. It happens in every 1 in 20,000 to 50,000 newborns and isn t very
common.
Inheritance: Cri Du Chat syndrome is not sex linked. It is caused by the deletion of the 5th
chromosome so it can happen to boys and girls. There is also no particular chromosome it is located
on. It s not on a chromosome it s a genetic disorder that is caused by a missing chromosome. It is also
neither dominant or recessive, the reason being that it is not inherited because it is a random

We Wear The Mask Literary Devices
Since the major part of the poem s recitation process has reached its finish line, I am relaxed, satisfied,
and able to reflect on it adequately. I regard to the whole process as a fascinating, valuable and
challenging adventure.
Approximately two months ago, I began looking for a poem, which was a serious work since I
pursued a powerful verse that was appropriate to my present state. Moreover, the poem s selection
procedure involved studying historical and cultural aspects, for the reason that I was grown under a
different circumstance and shared another background. I acknowledge the challenge of reading poetry
in a foreign language due to an effort to realize the main message of the poem immediately and
recognize the literary devices directly. Conversely, reading poetry in a native language seems natural
and habituated inasmuch the sounds, music, vocabulary, phraseology, images and events are
accustomed and familiar. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the fruits of my labor because the poem was chosen
and the more I read it, the more I became aware, inquisitive and fascinated by it.
The poem s memorizing was followed by its choice and represented ... Show more content on

that every time I discovered new features of the verse. I admit that a deeper reading of the poem We
Wear the Mask and studying the poet s background forced me to look at the problem of African
Americans from the other perspective. Similarly to the white world , I ignored the thought of their
suffering and pain since in the movies that I watched or on photographs that I saw, African Americans
appear smiling. I did not know that they pretend to be happy in order to survive. Moreover, I thought
that the racism exists overseas. The avoiding of noticing of oppressed people is identified with

Understanding Gerlad s Writings
Giraldus Cambrensis, known more commonly as Gerald of Wales, was a complex mix of nationalities
far greater than his name implies. Understanding Gerlad s writings of The History and Topography of
Ireland and The Journey Through Wales and the Description of Wales can only be done when
analyzed in context. It is vital to evaluate how his diverse background and calculated reasons for the
descriptions of the Welsh and Irish people influenced his writing. And furthermore, it is imperative to
use Gerald s writings to consider if his writings accurately reflect English attitudes of Ireland and
Wales.
Interpreting Gerald and determining if his writings reflected views of the English is not a simple
answer. To answer the question, Gerald himself must be categorized. While being one quarter Welsh
from his grandmother, a Princess of Wales, he had a variety of life experiences that classify him as
something else (Gransden 160). He studied in France, at the University of Paris making him highly
educated and well traveled for the time (Clarke 98). In addition to this he was also a Cambro Norman
Archdeacon of Brecon, a Welsh title for an ecclesiastical officer of the Church and had ties to the
Norman wave of immigrants in Wales (Gransden 160). In addition, politically speaking, his ... Show

Restorative Justice And Restitution Process
When we wrong someone, we seek his or her forgiveness in order for the relationship to be restored.
as noted by (What is a definition for forgiveness, n.d). It is extremely hard to forgive, it is even harder
to forgive someone who has taken a love one s life, and it is understandable for someone to be
apprehensive to restorative justice and restitution process. However, as a member of this family, it is
felt that it would be beneficial to obtain a deeper understanding restorative justice and restitution
process to determine if this is the best fit for the family.
The main priorities of restorative justice is the victims and the restoration of the community to which
the crime occurred. During earlier times restoration justice was used as a procedure to deal with
property crimes (Britto, S., Reimund, M. E., 2013). It has been said that the reason restoration justice
was used for these types of crimes were because it was easier for the offender to right their wrong
through restitution. Restorative Justice has grew increasingly throughout the criminal justice system
over the years. Now, the program is used to ignite affords of victim offender mediation and dialog
aiming to empower victims (Britto, S., Reimund, M. E., 2013). Many feel that having an open dialog
about murder or crimes in general increases the chances of restoring the community and righting the
victim wrong. Restorative Justice requires offender to recognize and acknowledge there wrong. The

Narrative Of A Quinceañera
This is the story on how I embarrassed myself in front of many people at my quinceañera. First off,
many people may or may not know what a quinceañera is. It s a traditional mexican party that a 15
year old girl celebrates, its meaning is it s a transformation from being a young girl to a woman. This
all began spring of last year. My family and I began to plan my party. We searched for decoration that
corresponded to what color I chose for my party. It ended up being the color pink, although it looked
more of a coral. Around two weeks later we began to do decorations, by this time the salon was
already rented out and was ready to fill it with items and get everything set up. For my decorations I

Conscription Plebiscites
Were the 1916 17 conscription plebiscites only about reinforcing the Army in Europe? The
conscription plebiscites of 1916 17 were not only about reinforcing the Australian troops in Europe.
The Australian government did have the power to implement conscription without holding a
plebiscite. But in 1916 the Prime Minster, Billy Hughes, knew that introducing a bill to implement
conscription would not work, and would have serious consequences. It would not have had enough
support from the government, so it would not have passed through both houses of parliament, and it
would split the Labor Party that was in power at the time. A plebiscite, on the other hand, did have
support from both houses of parliament, and was seen by Hughes as the only way ... Show more

The issue of conscription had brought to light the divisions within Australian society and the
government. Irish Australians, Roman Catholics, many supporters of the Labor Party and pacifists
were anti conscription (Love 2013, p. 4). Many Irish Australians, especially Catholics, had turned
against the war due to the violent and brutal suppression of Irish nationalists by British and Australian
forces in the Easter Uprising in Ireland in 1916 (Kildea 2013, Love 2013, pp. 3 4). The Australian
Roman Catholic Church had close ties to the Labor Party and Irish communities and stood with them
against conscription (Hearn 2010). The Archbishop of Melbourne, Irish born Daniel Mannix, who had
been entirely against the war since its beginning, supported the anti conscription movement, as well as
the Catholic dominated anti conscription faction of the Labor Party. Mannix was one of Hughes most
prominent opponents in his struggle to introduce conscription (Griffin 1986). On the other side, parts
of Australian society were pro conscription, such as pro imperialists, the Commonwealth Liberal
Party, the right faction of the Labor Party and the media (Love 2013, p. 4). Hughes wanted the

The Account Of My Ten Foot Square Hut Analysis
East Asian religious texts are filled with numerous valuable lessons that 21st century readers can now
all access despite one s gender, race or religion. Moreover, two Classical Japanese texts, known as The
Tale of Genji and The Account of my Ten Foot Square Hut, both include the two main themes of
attachment and suffering within their stories. The Tale of Genji, was written by a famous Japanese
female author, named Murasaki Shikibu. The tale follows an imperial prince, named Hikaru Genji,
which begins by depicting Genji secretly visiting his foster mother, a sick nun. He immediately gets

By secluding in nature, this monk is able to analyze the city, thus indicating everyone s necessity to
own homes that are bigger than ten square feet. This can be related to the notion that city people think
they need more space and things to fill their homes because their life is based around attachments that
aim to showcase their prominence and ignore its true basic purpose to provide shelter (32). Moreover,
the size of one s house is certainly funded by one s attachment to money and their career (Theme 9
Lecture 3, Mar.19).Therefore, cities remain to be the symbols of impurity and attachment because of
the wealth one can gain in it (Theme 3 Lecture 3, Jan. 26). However, a bodhisattva in Buddhism

and less possessions, which is similar to beliefs of Bodhisattva s (Theme 3 Lecture 1, Jan.22; Theme 5

Dracula As A Gothic Novel Analysis
Dracula is told through a series of letters, journals, newspapers, and other writings instead of a single,
connected narrative. In literature, Dracula would be not only classified as a Gothic novel but also an
epistolary novel. The letters and journals in Stoker s novel tell the reader the plot of the story; In the
beginning of Dracula after the reader leaves Jonathan and enters Mina s world, Mina and Lucy
exchange letters back and forth setting up the rising action of the plot of the novel. In the journals
provided by characters in Dracula contained lifelike details about mundane lives. Stoker uses his
characters to create attachment between them and the reader; Reading about a character s life and
believing it to be ordinary gives the reader a sense of realism that is not provided in most fictional
novels. In David Galens Dracula Novels for students, he states It also helps to counterbalance the
supernatural aspects of the novel by making it seem as if the book is true (Galens 3). In epistolary
novels, the point of view is always typically first person. On the other hand, in Dracula the reader
encounters many first person journal entries, this causes the reader to try and figure out what is going
on by piecing together each person s journal entries encompassing why Dracula is also in Gothic
literature due to its mysterious counterparts. Epistolary novels were on the rise in Stoker s lifetime.
Bram Stoker s works were often influenced by what was going on during his life. Bram Stoker lived
through many social and political reforms in the Victorian era which can be seen in his writing.
Works created in the Victorian era often idealized the Victorian society values. Dracula encompasses
how Victorians wanted to live and hard truths about Victorian fears. Victorians were people who lived
by set limits and their own morals. In Bram Stoker s novel, his characters embody how Victorians
should and should not be. Victorians biggest fear is their morals being affected. In Leila May s article
Foul things of the Night : Dread in the Victorian Body , she backs up this claim by stating The greatest
anxiety seems to be that of moral and social decomposition, as if the stench of death might be detected

The Handmaid s Tale Essay
Luyu Chen Mr. Blythe Eng 406 3 April 27th 2015 the handmaid s tale essay Can human live without
love? The answer is evidently no. Love can be defined as: the most spectacular, indescribable, deep
euphoric feeling for someone. Margaret Atwood, the author of the outstanding dystopian fiction the
handmaid s tale (1985) had once said: nobody dies from lack of sex. It s lack of love we die from. In
this novel, Atwood specifically depicts a society where relationships have been altered, undermined
and in many ways forbidden. The key word in the issue of relationships is love. In the Republic of
Gilead, a form of theocratic government, women had lost their ability to love. The protagonist Offred
is a handmaid whose sole purpose in life is to reproduce a child. Gilead expects its handmaids to have
faith in its commandments, but has removed love and hope from them. Women became objects and
sex slaves to men. Therefore, the relationships of the protagonist Offred are unhealthy as well as
abnormal. Her relationship with the commander is strained but profitable, her relationship with Serena
Joy has lots of tensions and conflicts; and her relationship with Nick is subtle as well as controversial.
Firstly, although Ofrred s relationship with the Commander offers some kind of comforts but it is still
destined to be fractured. Offred s name is a slave name which describes her function: she is of Fred,

The Cultural Expectations And Rules
Norms
A norm is something that is standard in society. Within sociology, it is specifically the cultural
expectations and rules that a person within the culture is supposed to uphold. Norms tell an individual
how they should behave within a certain situation. According to Saul McLeod of Simply Psychology
(2008), people are expected to behave in a way that is not random. Norms are social standards that are
agreed upon by a society so that members of a culture do not deviate into areas that others would
consider abnormal and wrong. Also norms vary by culture, so one culture that has an agreed upon and
socially practiced norm may vary from another culture that does not do the same thing and instead has
different norms. Each culture s norms differ based on beliefs and customs.
Norms are a general category of social rules. Taboos, laws, mores, and folkways are all norms. A
taboo is something that a culture forbids. Laws are strictly enforced formal rules by the government or
social powers within a culture. A more is a norm related to morals; what is deemed right or not within
a particular society. Also folkways are customs that are socially accepted, but are not strictly enforced.
Following norms are important because an individual is only socially accepted if they follow the set
norms.
The norm that I violated is a norm within American culture. It is a violation of a norm to clip your

Word Choice And Imagery In The Grapes Of Wrath By John...
In the novel, The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, Steinbeck uses word choice and imagery to
enhance the reader s understanding of the setting and characters. In word choice, he uses simple words
to describe the setting, the restaurant and truck, . He uses imagery to describe the setting and to
characterize the man . This passage uses simple words to describe the truck and the restaurant, such as,
A huge red transport truck stood in front of the little roadside restaurant. His use of these simple
descriptive words implies that this scene takes place in a simple, small town. He also uses terms to
show the setting, Oklahoma . According to the blurb on the back of the book, it states that the story is
set in the 1930s during the Dust ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later on in the chapter, the truck moves on along the highway, signifying that the story does not take
place in Oklahoma City. Also, the little restaurant would not have been in a bustling city like
Oklahoma City. Inside the restaurant, there is the truck driver, and a lean and lonely waitress
(Steinbeck). When Steinbeck says lean and lonely (Steinbeck), he could have said skinny or slim
waitress, but says lean because it helps to evoke some thought about jobs in the 1930s in a small town
and to show the physique of the women in the Midwest or Dust Bowl of the United States. The
colloquialism by the Truck driver is important because it adds to the setting. The driver says, I seen
him about three months ago. He had a operation. Cut somepin out. I forget what. And she Doesn t
seem no longer than a week I seen him myself. Looked fine then. He s a nice sort of a guy when he ain
t stinko (Steinbeck). It is important that Steinbeck puts in this dialogue because the terms sumpin, ain
t, and stinko are not words that would typically use everyday with someone at a restaurant. This shows
that this choice of dialogue is to show that the waitress and truck driver know each

Shot Four Renoir
Though only two and a half minutes long and consisting of only eight shots, this scene from Jean
Renoir s 1937 film The Grand Illusion, efficiently and poignantly introduces both the characters and
audience to the divisions of class and outlook that permeated European society during the Great War.
Through visual, audial, and narrative devices, Renoir comments on the irony and foolishness of the
pre World War I aristocratic perspective on war.
Beginning with the first shot, Renoir subliminally emphasizes the elevated status of the bourgeoisie.
Shot one starts as a medium shot and dollies backwards to reveal the rest of group; however, once
Rauffenstein enters the frame, the camera follows his motion for the remainder of the minute long ...

Shot four is at a medium angle and features a fluid dolly right. Cinematically, this camera movement
allows Renoir to bring Boeldieu and Rauffenstein into frame for the reaction shot to the wreath bearer.
Thematically, the dolly right illustrates the casual, hospitable nature of the working class, and
accentuates the fatally static, both visually and culturally, nature of the bourgeoisie class that World
War I would eventually upend.
The hospitable, jovial nature of the sequences comes to an abrupt halt at the end of shot three. As the
characters all stop talking and stare off screen, an extreme imbalance in the scene is created. The
ambiguity, however, is resolved with a cut to shot four a soldier carrying in a wreath. Renoir s choice
to remove the sounds of the men speaking, the clattering of silverware, and the music from the
barkeep s phonograph all enhance the already visually dramatic shift in tone. The audience is further
informed of the significance of the wreath with an extreme close up in shot five, as they learn that it is
commemorating the death of a French flying Captain.
Following this tonal shift, the camera cuts back to a medium two shot of Rauffenstein apologizing for
this coincidence to notably only Boeldieu. The two aristocrats, formerly secure in their bubble from
the war around them, are reminded of their circumstances. The irony

The Delicate Relationship Between Artist And Artwork
M. Sanders
Aesthetics
10 December 2014 The delicate relationship between artist and artwork is one that seems so intensely
personal that it _____. In spite of this intimacy, the positive or negative actions of an artist or the
responses elicited from their works are assessed by the eyes of the public usually in hopes of locating
a correlation between the two. This begs the most direct question of whether or not it s possible to
separate art from the artist. Within this dispute, more complex and dark arguments exist. Picasso and
Pulanski, two revolutionary figures in their own mediums, are not better known for their alleged
crimes. Their names carry a certain weight in their association with some questionable conduct during
their own respective eras: adultery and abuse in one scenario, and pedophilia in another. Alas, it is
heard to say if these factor into these artist s profound contributions to the artworld. More difficult is
understanding which audiences place the most emphasis on these crimes in regard to the works being
judged, and why. If no one else, it is hoped that critics are able to make the distinction between
aesthetic masterpieces and the failable human nature of their creators. Non experts might have an
understandably difficult time in breaking apart the two, plainly because they are not normally asked
to. Without justifying the any unfavorable action of any artist, a concession can made that great artists
of whatever variety seem to be wired

Persuasive Essay On Open Campus
Schools across the nation are debating over the issue in whether high school students should be
allowed to leave their campus during their lunch period or remain on school grounds. Students need an
open campus lunch policy to give them the freedom they deserve. Many could argue that an open
campus creates drama and destruction, but more good comes than the bad. Responsibility, staffing,
and local businesses all contribute to the successes of having an open campus lunch. High school
students sit in class all day isolated to the confined space of the school property. They need and
deserve a little time to escape.
Having an open campus lunch stimulates the economy. Kids are great spenders, especially on food.
According to FONA International s 2014 Trend Insight Report, teens spend around 18% of their
money on food ( U.S. Teens Spend... 1). This means that they hog much of the market when it comes
to fast food. One local business owner, Dick Hood, runs a sub shop right across from the high school
at Round Rock. He admitted that closing the campus would cause him to lose business (Schroeter 1).
The location of restaurants nearby helps to keep the students close enough to the school and allows for
them to walk or bike versus driving. In New York, students gather at the Vestal Bakery and Deli. Here,
the deli serves many students from Vestal High School and relies on the business from the lunch rush
that they provide (Basler 1). With the business of the students they are able to hire more employees
therefore helping the economy. Rachel Kirkpatrick also contributes to the fast casual eateries in her
area. Some days her and her friends would go into town and eat at their local bagel shop or Chipotle.
When it was warm outside they would picnic on the school s lawn (Marszalek 1). In addition, one
school that is on the edge with deciding what to do is weighing out the pros and cons. They said that
having an open campus would get the students out in the community and let them support local
businesses, that was a major pro (Poolman 1). In a small town, these places thrive on the younger
generations money. Lisa Williams is the manager of Grecco s. On a typical day, over 30 teens come in

Character Analysis Of Katherine Mansfield s The Fly
The tragedies war brings people are horrific, and they do not only occur to those who chose to be
involved. The death and damage that arise cause agony, and not all people are able to cope with this
agony as well as others. People s personalities significantly affect how they are able to cope. In
Katherine Mansfield s The Fly, the main character, the boss, is a man with a naturally controlling
personality that influences how he deals with his war sourced anguish and overcomes it in a somewhat
cruel manner. Being referred to as the boss, rather than his birth given name, tells a great deal about
the boss. The boss in The Fly has a very bossy personality finding great pleasure in being in control.
Readers can tell that the boss is controlling by his method of killing the fly in his office. He carefully
observes the fly struggle to stand after being unstuck from the inkpot and he drowns the fly with the
ink from his pen. After the boss observes the fly finish its laborious task of freeing itself, he refills his
pen and shakes another dark drop. The boss then asks, What about this time? as he repeats his actions
twice more. Even after the fly dies he commands it: Come on... Look sharp! This proves that the boss
is empowered by displaying his dominance even over such a helpless insect. Readers also see that the
boss is taking advantage of his control when he orders his secretary Macey around. He first tells him, I

I intend to show how much of the food we eat today was first cultivated by the native people of the
Americas. Moreover, the impact this food has had upon the world.

Vodka today commands 20% of the U.S. liquor market, and is one of the most popular drinks
worldwide. In America today the potato is a facet of everyday life from the mashed potatoes we eat
with our fast food chicken, to the potato that is a staple with pot roast, to everybody s favorite
McDonalds french fries.
The tomato is another plant that has acquired global prominence from humble origins. It originated
with the Inca and migrated north to the Maya and the Aztecs, where the Spanish brought it to Europe,
and like its cousin the potato, it is a member of the Nightshade family. The tomato took sometime to
gain a foothold as people believed it to be poisonous, but when it took off, it took off energetically.
The Italians and French were the first to embrace it. Today the tomato is taken for granted as a
common menu item. We consume it everyday in pizza, Italian food, and in almost any salad you can
think of. It is the main ingredient of two of the world s most popular condiment s ketchup and salsa.
There is another member of the Nightshade family that has made an incredible journey from its
humble origins member is the capsicum or chili pepper. When the Spanish came to the new world
there were only four types of pepper the Cayenne, Bell, Jalapeno, and the Tabasco. The pepper then
began its long strange journey of transformation, and worldwide

Capital Punishment And Its Effects On Society
Capital punishment has become an increasing controversial topic recently. I believe that capital
punishment is unethical and it does not benefit society as a whole, causing more harm than good by
forcefully killing another. It is also hypocritical because it condemns killing by killing. We murder
people who murder people to show that murder is wrong. We as a society should not have the right to
take someone s life, without their consent, no matter what they have done. Instead of sentencing these
possible felons to death, I believe that by giving them the option to face life without parole, we not
only eliminate the risk of irreversible damage, but we let them face their consequences in a less
barbaric way that is ethical and justifiable and does not damage the society as a whole. I also
understand that forcing someone to live and die in prison could be considered more inhumane and
cruel than the death penalty, as it could just be considered as prolonging their suffering. Instead of just
completely removing the death penalty and replacing it with life imprisonment, I believe that Capital
punishment could be made ethical and benefit society as a whole if it gave the possible convicts an
option for choosing either the death penalty through lethal injection or life in prison without parole. It
gives the convicts the option to choose how they would like to face their consequences and we as a
society do not need to get unnecessary blood on our hands by killing someone against

Could Napoleon Dynamite Have Asperger s
It was hard for me to watch this movie and separate Napoleon s behaviors from his friends and family
members. Many of the things he does and says are like those of the people around him. His overall
weirdness was not behavior that I immediately would have identified as Asperger s, rather someone
who is simply a little odd. However, as I continued to watch the movie I was able to find certain
examples that could be red flags for Asperger s. From the very beginning of the movie, it seemed like
Napoleon never opened his eyes. They are open just enough to be squinting, and they are rarely
directed to be looking at a person. Asperger s typically come with poor eye contact in social situations,
and Napoleon definitely has this characteristic. Even when he is talking directly to someone, he doesn
t have the comfort level to look them in the eye. The second thing is that he is very uncoordinated. He
is able to play tetherball, but just barely because he hits it with different amounts of power and so is
constantly jumping out of the way. When he goes out to feed Tina the llama, he is awkward about
getting the food through the fence to her, and then flings it on the ground in front of her with his fork.
He also has an awkward walk that gets especially odd when he runs and is very uncoordinated. The
third characteristic that is typical of people with Asperger s is a lack of interest in the feelings and
emotions of others. Napoleon makes comments to people that most of us wouldn t

pledge its support to employees irrespective of their skin color, gender, or sexuality stands to benefit
hugely; firstly by creating a sense of empowerment among employees and secondly by setting an
industry standard that can pave the way for change across society (Gay and Transgender People Face
High Rates of Workplace Discrimination and Harassment, 2014). It is important for employees with
different sexual orientation to come out and share their story with their coworkers, and hope for
support. Even though some may not be supportive, the company should have affinity groups or have
the human resources department communicate openly with the employees about assistive policies.
Although there are still many problems concerning homosexuals in the workplace, they have come a

Bakers Chapter Summary
Summary Paper Two Assignment
Using chapter 6 of Bakers text summarized the key point or points most critical to the intelligence
cycle.
The chapter 6 of Baker s text was focused on criminal investigative analysis of arson as well as the
advanced behavioral science of arson investigation. Arson is defined as the willful and malicious
burning of a property or buildings (Baker, 2005). Investigators must prove that the arsonists voluntary,
knowingly, and purposefully committed the crime in order to be prosecuted. However, arson crimes
are more difficult to identify because of its patterns and trends are not consistent (Baker, 2005). There
are five basic types of fires; they are natural, accidental, unknown, suspicious, and incendiary. In ...

prison sentences should be shortened and repeal mandatory minimum statutes. The money saved with
the policy change should spend into policing budgets to increase perceptions of certain apprehension

12 weeks did not. In addition, all the beats did not show residual deterrence effects and the

Gender in Bram Stoker s Dracula Essay
Gender in Bram Stoker s Dracula
During the Victorian Era, women struggled to attain gender equality by challenging the traditional
roles that defined them. These women no longer wanted to remain passive and obey the demands of
their husbands nor be domestic and the caretakers of their children. They strived to attain the role of a
New Woman , an intelligent, liberated individual who was able to openly express her ideas (Eltis 452).
Whereas some women were successful in attaining this new role, others were still dominated by their
male counterparts. The men felt threatened by the rising power of women and repressed them by not
allowing them to work, giving them unnecessary medications, and diagnosing them with hysteria

(Stoker 80). Lucy wants to be free from societal marriage constraints and pursue all the men; however,
societal constraints decide that she can only be with one man, Arthur Holmwood. She writes to Mina,
?You and I, Mina dear, who are engaged and are going to settle down soon soberly in to old married
women? (Stoker 78). Lucy follows the collective belief that marriage institutes settling down with one
man. Whereas Lucy portrays the ?New Woman? with her sexual tendencies and flirtatiousness, Mina
represents the ?New Woman? through her intelligence. She is an assistant schoolmistress, knows how
to write in shorthand, and shows interest in learning how to use the phonograph, one of the new
technologies of the time. She says, ?I shall try to do what I see lady journalists do: interviewing and
writing descriptions and trying to remember conversations?with a little practice, one can remember all
that goes on or that one hears said during one day? (Stoker 76). Mina is trying to learn a trade, and
reverse the male ideology that only men can have jobs. Furthermore, like Lucy, Mina is also loyal to
one man, Jonathan Harker. Mina wants to marry Jonathan and settle down. She writes to Lucy, When
we are married I shall be able to be useful to Jonathan, and if I can stenograph well enough I can take
down what he wants to say in this way and write it out for him on the typewriter (Stoker 75). In this

Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier Essay example
Cold Mountain
In Charles Frazier s Cold Mountain, the theme of music is one of the novel s most powerful themes.
From symbolizing character growth to the healing of physical wounds, music plays an integral part in
this novel. While many critics will point out that music has little effect on the human psyche, Charles
Frazier shows his belief that music does indeed have a profound effect on the human mind throughout
Cold Mountain. Throughout the novel, Inman, Ada, Ruby, Stobrod, and many other characters
experience music that allows them to keep faith against the odds or even heal their wounds! There are
three major types of music used in this novel; hymn music, folk music, and natural music . It is
through these types of music that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But Monroe preached that they were misunderstanding the song if they fooled themselves into
thinking all creation would someday love them. What it really required was for them to love all
creation (78). Monroe used the hymns of his church as a means to spread his ideas of how people
ought to live their lives. This pattern is also apparent with Inman. When he meets Swimmer, a Native
American, he learns of a chant that could kill the soul of an enemy (20). Inman cannot accept this
notion because he had been taught by sermon and hymn to hold as truth that the soul of man never
dies (20). Charles Frazier believed in the power of hymn to influence what people believed about
spirituality and the soul. This parallels the historical usage of hymns in church during the Civil War as
well as in today s church as a means to pass down culture. Hymn music also had the ability to
strengthen the Church and to solidify the beliefs of the parishioners. There is a large disagreement
over the influence of religious music over a person s beliefs. The evangelical song leaders believed
that religious music moved people with no faith to a life dedicated to praising God, but people from
outside the church described religious music as cheap and tawdry (Squire 242). According to the
United Evangelical Front religious music was a way to articulate God s plan and extend the influence
of religion outside of the church

Voodoo And Caribbean Religion
Voodoo and Caribbean Religions
The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods is
what is defined as Religion. In many religions text is believed to have scriptural status and moral
authority. In some religions like Voodoo, there are no moral authority or text. It is a community
centered around individual experiences, empowerment, and responsibility and is practiced by people
who are imperfect and may use religion for their own purposes. It is a religion that originates from
Africa. Voodoo is thought to be a various combination of African, Catholic, and Native traditions. The
goal of Voodoo is to serve the Spirits (sevi lwa) offering prayers and numerous devotional rites to God
and other spirits for health, favor, and protection. Spirit possession plays an important role in this
religion. It is an oral tradition that is practiced by extended families that inherit familial spirits and
devotional practices by elders. The forms of Voodoo practiced today are the results of one of the most
inhumane episodes in modern history: The African Slave Trade between the 16th and 19th century.
When Africans were bought here to America they bought Voodoo with them. During slavery an
underground religion (voodoo) started to emerge among slaves. It was a combination of African
religious traditions with elements of Catholicism. Many of the early Voodoo priest came from a
Muslim background. During slave times, Voodoo equaled revolt. To

The ABC system will help management analyse the profitability of each customer and restore the
profitability of the company. Allied needs to offer benefits such as modified compensation plan
focused on growing customer revenue and profitability to help encourage sales behaviour. TFC is able
to significantly improve profits by concentrating on individual account management which SBP is
capable of by identifying service costs and calculate the contribution for each account and then rank
the accounts according to profitable ones. TFC should charge its customers based on their service
usage by using cost plus pricing. The customers would be charged based on the cost of product plus
service charge based on SBP systems plus a mark up so that it will be fair to customers that have the
same sales but different level of service.

The Three Tales of Cymbeline Essay
The Three Tales of Cymbeline
Cymbeline has always been a difficult play to categorize. The original collection of Shakespeare s
plays, quot; The First Folio quot; (published in 1623), classifies it as a tragedy; modern editors have
revised that to comedy, and to distinguish it further from other comedies, it is also referred to, along
with The Tempest, The Winter s Tale, and Pericles, as a romance. Of course, like so many other plays
of Shakespeare, these classifications are only guidelines rather than definitions, for an attempt to
analyze a work of art according to somewhat arbitrary classifications is to diminish the very essence
its originality that makes it a work of art. Undoubtedly, there are many aspects, ... Show more content

The danger to Imogen s life by her husband s jealous action is as real as is Desdemona s fate, thus
propelling the play to the edge of tragedy. Unlike Iago, however, Iachimo (the similarity of their
names is interesting) repents (he is even ready to accept death as his punishment) and is then forgiven
by the generous Posthumus. The theme of forgiveness is characteristic of Shakespeare s romances
Hermione s forgiveness of Leontes is one of the most beautiful moments of The Winter s Tale, and
Prospero s decision to return to his kingdom is itself a forgiveness of the wrongs done him. Another
staple of romantic epics is the story of lost and found children. Often, the lost child is a girl, but
sometimes, as Shakespeare chooses here, the children may be boys. The Guiderius Arviragus story
includes the tale of Belarius, the quot;supposed father quot; who is drawn from the quot;rusticated
courtier quot; of pastoral romance. By deciding to make Belarius a hunter and not a shepherd (as he
does with the adoptive father of Perdita in The Winter s Tale), Shakespeare permits the credibility of
Guiderius and Arviragus as fighters in the defense of their country. In Imogen s taking of the
quot;poison, quot; Shakespeare employs a standard device of Greek romance which called for the
supposed death of a beloved woman; it is a device that he uses in his tragedies (Romeo

The Duke pretended he was dead with his mouth hung open and he had his lips very dry.
The girl was worried, she thought he was dying so she gave him one drop of water. The Duke instantly
jumped back up and tore apart the cage. The children were terrified. He came over to them and
promised them that they will be rewarded for their deed. He gave them a small egg and told them to
plant it in the ground and then he left. When the man came back he was shocked by what had
happened. He knew the Duke would be very angry and would punish him. So he didn t waste any time
and started to build a ship. After a month s time the ship was finished. It was built out of the strongest
material known to him.
Meanwhile the egg the children planted had grown to a size of about two small people. Then one day
what the man had anticipated came. Huge torrential downpours of rain started and there were
tremendous floods. The man jumped into the ship he built, in his panic he had forgotten about the
children. They had ran into the egg which had become soft. The floods were so great that the man in
his ship reached all the way to the door of the heavens. He banged the doors and yelled let me in! The
gods didn t want mortals in the heavens, so the Duke was ordered to recede the floods.

Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Differences Between Slavery In Ancient Rome And Greece Third, unlike what we think, Equality between different classes was, therefore, unimportant (15). According to the education in that period, people are separate to many classes. Upper class is much more important than a middle class people. A powerful people can command a people without nothing to do anything they want. This is also why the slavery was allowed in that period. 2.There are several similarities and differences between the slavery in Ancient Rome and Greece. Greece has separated its slavery into three big categories: public, temple and private. Unlike Greek, Ancient Roman only employed public and private slaves, without having the third categories, temple. The public and private slaves in both Rome and Greece are pretty much ... Syrian Social Location More than two hundred thousand Syrians have lost their lives or the lives of love ones in the four years of armed conflict, which all began with an anti government protests before escalating into a civil war. More than eleven million of the Syrian people who were not subject to death have been forced from their homes. Those who are loyal to President Bashar al Assad and those who are against him are in war, as well as jihadist militants from Islamic State (BBC). This has been a tragic and hard time and has had a negative effect on all aspects of the country. The only option this war has left for the innocent is to flee to the neighboring countries (BBC).With that being said women and children have risked their lives in dangerous attempts to flee the country in search of safety. Majority of the people who are fleeing are traveling to Europe in hopes of sanction. But not all countries/states have been welcoming to these refugees, Gulf States such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and have similar religion, language and culture as Syria and they have more than enough resources to house these people but are not on board. Leaving the country to go to other geographic locations is an example of hyperdyadic spread. Hyperdyadic spread can be defined as an event outside of your perimeter that ends up affecting you (Lecture 11/2/2015). • 5. The Case Of A Contract Page 180 1) The court viewed the situation as if a reasonable individual would consider the offer as valid. Zehmer s outward expressions and words constituted a genuine offer to sell. The outwardly demonstrated intent is all the court looks at, not the secret and inward thought of the defendant. A contract cannot be done in passing or when absent minded. Both parts have to come to mutual understanding and agreement (Melvin, 2011). Lucy demonstrated her intent by ensuring that details were in the contract (illustrated by several drafts that were written), and by ensuring both husband and wife signed the contract (Lucy v. Second would be the fact that upon notification of further contract, Chou prepared and delivered it immediately. It was BTT that deferred the signing without rejecting the contract for several months. 3) The mail rule and their communication by faster email reveal that they both had many opportunities within any given period to make adjustments, counter offers, or even reject the deal without it going on for such a long period (Melvin, 2011). 4) Chou s neglect to follow through with a contract could make the deal unenforceable. The statute of frauds requires some information to be written down and signed. If the courts did not take the email that spells out all the terms of the agreement sent by BTT to Chou as proof of all parties agreement, it could be a dismissed lawsuit (Melvin, 2011). 5) BTT could avoid the contact under a doctrine of mistake. • 7. We Wear The Mask Literary Devices Since the major part of the poem s recitation process has reached its finish line, I am relaxed, satisfied, and able to reflect on it adequately. I regard to the whole process as a fascinating, valuable and challenging adventure. Approximately two months ago, I began looking for a poem, which was a serious work since I pursued a powerful verse that was appropriate to my present state. Moreover, the poem s selection procedure involved studying historical and cultural aspects, for the reason that I was grown under a different circumstance and shared another background. I acknowledge the challenge of reading poetry in a foreign language due to an effort to realize the main message of the poem immediately and recognize the literary devices directly. Conversely, reading poetry in a native language seems natural and habituated inasmuch the sounds, music, vocabulary, phraseology, images and events are accustomed and familiar. Understanding Gerlad s writings of The History and Topography of Ireland and The Journey Through Wales and the Description of Wales can only be done when analyzed in context. It is vital to evaluate how his diverse background and calculated reasons for the descriptions of the Welsh and Irish people influenced his writing. And furthermore, it is imperative to use Gerald s writings to consider if his writings accurately reflect English attitudes of Ireland and Wales. Interpreting Gerald and determining if his writings reflected views of the English is not a simple answer. To answer the question, Gerald himself must be categorized. While being one quarter Welsh from his grandmother, a Princess of Wales, he had a variety of life experiences that classify him as something else (Gransden 160). He studied in France, at the University of Paris making him highly educated and well traveled for the time (Clarke 98). However, as a member of this family, it is felt that it would be beneficial to obtain a deeper understanding restorative justice and restitution process to determine if this is the best fit for the family. The main priorities of restorative justice is the victims and the restoration of the community to which the crime occurred. During earlier times restoration justice was used as a procedure to deal with property crimes (Britto, S., Reimund, M. E., 2013). It has been said that the reason restoration justice was used for these types of crimes were because it was easier for the offender to right their wrong through restitution. My family and I began to plan my party. We searched for decoration that corresponded to what color I chose for my party. It ended up being the color pink, although it looked more of a coral. The conscription plebiscites of 1916 17 were not only about reinforcing the Australian troops in Europe. The Australian government did have the power to implement conscription without holding a plebiscite. But in 1916 the Prime Minster, Billy Hughes, knew that introducing a bill to implement conscription would not work, and would have serious consequences. It would not have had enough support from the government, so it would not have passed through both houses of parliament, and it would split the Labor Party that was in power at the time. The issue of conscription had brought to light the divisions within Australian society and the government. Irish Australians, Roman Catholics, many supporters of the Labor Party and pacifists were anti conscription (Love 2013, p. 4). Many Irish Australians, especially Catholics, had turned against the war due to the violent and brutal suppression of Irish nationalists by British and Australian forces in the Easter Uprising in Ireland in 1916 (Kildea 2013, Love 2013, pp. 3 4). The Australian Roman Catholic Church had close ties to the Labor Party and Irish communities and stood with them against conscription (Hearn 2010). The Archbishop of Melbourne, Irish born Daniel Mannix, who had been entirely against the war since its beginning, supported the anti conscription movement, as well as the Catholic dominated anti conscription faction of the Labor Party. Mannix was one of Hughes most prominent opponents in his struggle to introduce conscription (Griffin 1986). On the other side, parts of Australian society were pro conscription, such as pro imperialists, the Commonwealth Liberal Party, the right faction of the Labor Party and the media (Love 2013, p. 4). Moreover, two Classical Japanese texts, known as The Tale of Genji and The Account of my Ten Foot Square Hut, both include the two main themes of attachment and suffering within their stories. The Tale of Genji, was written by a famous Japanese female author, named Murasaki Shikibu. The tale follows an imperial prince, named Hikaru Genji, which begins by depicting Genji secretly visiting his foster mother, a sick nun. This can be related to the notion that city people think they need more space and things to fill their homes because their life is based around attachments that aim to showcase their prominence and ignore its true basic purpose to provide shelter (32). Moreover, the size of one s house is certainly funded by one s attachment to money and their career (Theme 9 Lecture 3, Mar.19).Therefore, cities remain to be the symbols of impurity and attachment because of the wealth one can gain in it (Theme 3 Lecture 3, Jan. 26). • 15. Dracula As A Gothic Novel Analysis Dracula is told through a series of letters, journals, newspapers, and other writings instead of a single, connected narrative. In literature, Dracula would be not only classified as a Gothic novel but also an epistolary novel. The letters and journals in Stoker s novel tell the reader the plot of the story; In the beginning of Dracula after the reader leaves Jonathan and enters Mina s world, Mina and Lucy exchange letters back and forth setting up the rising action of the plot of the novel. In the journals provided by characters in Dracula contained lifelike details about mundane lives. Stoker uses his characters to create attachment between them and the reader; Reading about a character s life and believing it to be ordinary gives the reader a sense of realism that is not provided in most fictional novels. In David Galens Dracula Novels for students, he states It also helps to counterbalance the supernatural aspects of the novel by making it seem as if the book is true (Galens 3). In epistolary novels, the point of view is always typically first person. On the other hand, in Dracula the reader encounters many first person journal entries, this causes the reader to try and figure out what is going on by piecing together each person s journal entries encompassing why Dracula is also in Gothic literature due to its mysterious counterparts. Epistolary novels were on the rise in Stoker s lifetime. Bram Stoker s works were often influenced by what was going on during his life. Bram Stoker lived through many social and political reforms in the Victorian era which can be seen in his writing. Works created in the Victorian era often idealized the Victorian society values. Dracula encompasses how Victorians wanted to live and hard truths about Victorian fears. Victorians were people who lived by set limits and their own morals. In Bram Stoker s novel, his characters embody how Victorians should and should not be. Victorians biggest fear is their morals being affected. Love can be defined as: the most spectacular, indescribable, deep euphoric feeling for someone. Margaret Atwood, the author of the outstanding dystopian fiction the handmaid s tale (1985) had once said: nobody dies from lack of sex. It s lack of love we die from. In this novel, Atwood specifically depicts a society where relationships have been altered, undermined and in many ways forbidden. The key word in the issue of relationships is love. In the Republic of Gilead, a form of theocratic government, women had lost their ability to love. The protagonist Offred is a handmaid whose sole purpose in life is to reproduce a child. Gilead expects its handmaids to have faith in its commandments, but has removed love and hope from them. Women became objects and sex slaves to men. Therefore, the relationships of the protagonist Offred are unhealthy as well as abnormal. Her relationship with the commander is strained but profitable, her relationship with Serena Joy has lots of tensions and conflicts; and her relationship with Nick is subtle as well as controversial. Firstly, although Ofrred s relationship with the Commander offers some kind of comforts but it is still destined to be fractured. • 20. The Cultural Expectations And Rules Norms A norm is something that is standard in society. Within sociology, it is specifically the cultural expectations and rules that a person within the culture is supposed to uphold. Norms tell an individual how they should behave within a certain situation. According to Saul McLeod of Simply Psychology (2008), people are expected to behave in a way that is not random. Norms are social standards that are agreed upon by a society so that members of a culture do not deviate into areas that others would consider abnormal and wrong. Also norms vary by culture, so one culture that has an agreed upon and socially practiced norm may vary from another culture that does not do the same thing and instead has different norms. Each culture s norms differ based on beliefs and customs. Norms are a general category of social rules. Taboos, laws, mores, and folkways are all norms. A taboo is something that a culture forbids. Laws are strictly enforced formal rules by the government or social powers within a culture. A more is a norm related to morals; what is deemed right or not within a particular society. Also folkways are customs that are socially accepted, but are not strictly enforced. Following norms are important because an individual is only socially accepted if they follow the set norms. When Steinbeck says lean and lonely (Steinbeck), he could have said skinny or slim waitress, but says lean because it helps to evoke some thought about jobs in the 1930s in a small town and to show the physique of the women in the Midwest or Dust Bowl of the United States. The colloquialism by the Truck driver is important because it adds to the setting. The driver says, I seen him about three months ago. He had a operation. Cut somepin out. I forget what. Shot Four Renoir Though only two and a half minutes long and consisting of only eight shots, this scene from Jean Renoir s 1937 film The Grand Illusion, efficiently and poignantly introduces both the characters and audience to the divisions of class and outlook that permeated European society during the Great War. Through visual, audial, and narrative devices, Renoir comments on the irony and foolishness of the pre World War I aristocratic perspective on war. Beginning with the first shot, Renoir subliminally emphasizes the elevated status of the bourgeoisie. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shot four is at a medium angle and features a fluid dolly right. Cinematically, this camera movement allows Renoir to bring Boeldieu and Rauffenstein into frame for the reaction shot to the wreath bearer. Thematically, the dolly right illustrates the casual, hospitable nature of the working class, and accentuates the fatally static, both visually and culturally, nature of the bourgeoisie class that World War I would eventually upend. The hospitable, jovial nature of the sequences comes to an abrupt halt at the end of shot three. As the characters all stop talking and stare off screen, an extreme imbalance in the scene is created. The ambiguity, however, is resolved with a cut to shot four a soldier carrying in a wreath. Renoir s choice to remove the sounds of the men speaking, the clattering of silverware, and the music from the barkeep s phonograph all enhance the already visually dramatic shift in tone. The audience is further informed of the significance of the wreath with an extreme close up in shot five, as they learn that it is commemorating the death of a French flying Captain. Following this tonal shift, the camera cuts back to a medium two shot of Rauffenstein apologizing for this coincidence to notably only Boeldieu. Sanders Aesthetics 10 December 2014 The delicate relationship between artist and artwork is one that seems so intensely personal that it _____. In spite of this intimacy, the positive or negative actions of an artist or the responses elicited from their works are assessed by the eyes of the public usually in hopes of locating a correlation between the two. This begs the most direct question of whether or not it s possible to separate art from the artist. Within this dispute, more complex and dark arguments exist. Picasso and Pulanski, two revolutionary figures in their own mediums, are not better known for their alleged crimes. Their names carry a certain weight in their association with some questionable conduct during their own respective eras: adultery and abuse in one scenario, and pedophilia in another. Alas, it is heard to say if these factor into these artist s profound contributions to the artworld. More difficult is understanding which audiences place the most emphasis on these crimes in regard to the works being judged, and why. If no one else, it is hoped that critics are able to make the distinction between aesthetic masterpieces and the failable human nature of their creators. Non experts might have an understandably difficult time in breaking apart the two, plainly because they are not normally asked to. • 26. Persuasive Essay On Open Campus Schools across the nation are debating over the issue in whether high school students should be allowed to leave their campus during their lunch period or remain on school grounds. Students need an open campus lunch policy to give them the freedom they deserve. Many could argue that an open campus creates drama and destruction, but more good comes than the bad. Responsibility, staffing, and local businesses all contribute to the successes of having an open campus lunch. High school students sit in class all day isolated to the confined space of the school property. They need and deserve a little time to escape. Having an open campus lunch stimulates the economy. Kids are great spenders, especially on food. According to FONA International s 2014 Trend Insight Report, teens spend around 18% of their money on food ( U.S. Teens Spend... 1). This means that they hog much of the market when it comes to fast food. One local business owner, Dick Hood, runs a sub shop right across from the high school at Round Rock. He admitted that closing the campus would cause him to lose business (Schroeter 1). The location of restaurants nearby helps to keep the students close enough to the school and allows for them to walk or bike versus driving. In New York, students gather at the Vestal Bakery and Deli. Here, the deli serves many students from Vestal High School and relies on the business from the lunch rush that they provide (Basler 1). With the business of the students they are able to hire more employees therefore helping the economy. Rachel Kirkpatrick also contributes to the fast casual eateries in her area. Some days her and her friends would go into town and eat at their local bagel shop or Chipotle. When it was warm outside they would picnic on the school s lawn (Marszalek 1). In addition, one school that is on the edge with deciding what to do is weighing out the pros and cons. They said that having an open campus would get the students out in the community and let them support local businesses, that was a major pro (Poolman 1). My grandfather is 73 and works 6 days a week so him and my grandmother can back pay everything they missed when she lost her job. I know I don t want to be that old, and working that much. I will want to be taking care of grandkids and traveling everywhere I haven t already seen. With every good retirement plan there needs to be an end goal. My end goal is to live comfortably; I do not need a fancy house or expensive things. I wanting to have a car and house completely paid off, with no plan on moving into a retirement ... • 36. Capital Punishment And Its Effects On Society Capital punishment has become an increasing controversial topic recently. I believe that capital punishment is unethical and it does not benefit society as a whole, causing more harm than good by forcefully killing another. It is also hypocritical because it condemns killing by killing. We murder people who murder people to show that murder is wrong. We as a society should not have the right to take someone s life, without their consent, no matter what they have done. Instead of sentencing these possible felons to death, I believe that by giving them the option to face life without parole, we not only eliminate the risk of irreversible damage, but we let them face their consequences in a less barbaric way that is ethical and justifiable and does not damage the society as a whole. I also understand that forcing someone to live and die in prison could be considered more inhumane and cruel than the death penalty, as it could just be considered as prolonging their suffering. Instead of just completely removing the death penalty and replacing it with life imprisonment, I believe that Capital punishment could be made ethical and benefit society as a whole if it gave the possible convicts an option for choosing either the death penalty through lethal injection or life in prison without parole. It gives the convicts the option to choose how they would like to face their consequences and we as a society do not need to get unnecessary blood on our hands by killing someone against ... • 38. Could Napoleon Dynamite Have Asperger s It was hard for me to watch this movie and separate Napoleon s behaviors from his friends and family members. Many of the things he does and says are like those of the people around him. His overall weirdness was not behavior that I immediately would have identified as Asperger s, rather someone who is simply a little odd. However, as I continued to watch the movie I was able to find certain examples that could be red flags for Asperger s. From the very beginning of the movie, it seemed like Napoleon never opened his eyes. They are open just enough to be squinting, and they are rarely directed to be looking at a person. Asperger s typically come with poor eye contact in social situations, and Napoleon definitely has this characteristic. Even when he is talking directly to someone, he doesn t have the comfort level to look them in the eye. The second thing is that he is very uncoordinated. He is able to play tetherball, but just barely because he hits it with different amounts of power and so is constantly jumping out of the way. When he goes out to feed Tina the llama, he is awkward about getting the food through the fence to her, and then flings it on the ground in front of her with his fork. He also has an awkward walk that gets especially odd when he runs and is very uncoordinated. The third characteristic that is typical of people with Asperger s is a lack of interest in the feelings and emotions of others. Napoleon makes comments to people that most of us wouldn t ... Gender in Bram Stoker s Dracula Essay Gender in Bram Stoker s Dracula During the Victorian Era, women struggled to attain gender equality by challenging the traditional roles that defined them. They strived to attain the role of a New Woman , an intelligent, liberated individual who was able to openly express her ideas (Eltis 452). Lucy follows the collective belief that marriage institutes settling down with one man. • 43. Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier Essay example Cold Mountain In Charles Frazier s Cold Mountain, the theme of music is one of the novel s most powerful themes. From symbolizing character growth to the healing of physical wounds, music plays an integral part in this novel. While many critics will point out that music has little effect on the human psyche, Charles Frazier shows his belief that music does indeed have a profound effect on the human mind throughout Cold Mountain. Throughout the novel, Inman, Ada, Ruby, Stobrod, and many other characters experience music that allows them to keep faith against the odds or even heal their wounds! There are three major types of music used in this novel; hymn music, folk music, and natural music . It is through these types of music that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But Monroe preached that they were misunderstanding the song if they fooled themselves into thinking all creation would someday love them. What it really required was for them to love all creation (78). Monroe used the hymns of his church as a means to spread his ideas of how people ought to live their lives. This pattern is also apparent with Inman. When he meets Swimmer, a Native American, he learns of a chant that could kill the soul of an enemy (20). Inman cannot accept this notion because he had been taught by sermon and hymn to hold as truth that the soul of man never dies (20). Charles Frazier believed in the power of hymn to influence what people believed about spirituality and the soul. This parallels the historical usage of hymns in church during the Civil War as well as in today s church as a means to pass down culture. Hymn music also had the ability to strengthen the Church and to solidify the beliefs of the parishioners. There is a large disagreement over the influence of religious music over a person s beliefs. The evangelical song leaders believed that religious music moved people with no faith to a life dedicated to praising God, but people from outside the church described religious music as cheap and tawdry (Squire 242). According to the United Evangelical Front religious music was a way to articulate God s plan and extend the influence of religion outside of the church ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Three Tales of Cymbeline Essay The Three Tales of Cymbeline Cymbeline has always been a difficult play to categorize. The original collection of Shakespeare s plays, quot; The First Folio quot; (published in 1623), classifies it as a tragedy; modern editors have revised that to comedy, and to distinguish it further from other comedies, it is also referred to, along with The Tempest, The Winter s Tale, and Pericles, as a romance. Of course, like so many other plays of Shakespeare, these classifications are only guidelines rather than definitions, for an attempt to analyze a work of art according to somewhat arbitrary classifications is to diminish the very essence its originality that makes it a work of art. The danger to Imogen s life by her husband s jealous action is as real as is Desdemona s fate, thus propelling the play to the edge of tragedy. Unlike Iago, however, Iachimo (the similarity of their names is interesting) repents (he is even ready to accept death as his punishment) and is then forgiven by the generous Posthumus. The theme of forgiveness is characteristic of Shakespeare s romances Hermione s forgiveness of Leontes is one of the most beautiful moments of The Winter s Tale, and Prospero s decision to return to his kingdom is itself a forgiveness of the wrongs done him. Another staple of romantic epics is the story of lost and found children. Often, the lost child is a girl, but sometimes, as Shakespeare chooses here, the children may be boys. The Guiderius Arviragus story includes the tale of Belarius, the quot;supposed father quot; who is drawn from the quot;rusticated courtier quot; of pastoral romance. By deciding to make Belarius a hunter and not a shepherd (as he does with the adoptive father of Perdita in The Winter s Tale), Shakespeare permits the credibility of Guiderius and Arviragus as fighters in the defense of their country.
