The Book Thief Rhetorical Analysis
The Book Thief, written by Australian novelist Markus Zusak, follows a young girl living in Nazi
Germany, and employs innovative techniques to convey the central idea of the extremes of human
behavior. This central idea was explored through stylistic techniques and conventions such as Death as
the narrator, juxtaposition, irony, lack of chronological order, narrative voices, and themes, namely the
power of words.
In The Book Thief, Markus Zusak used narrative voices to convey extremes of human behavior. The
characters through which he conveyed these innovated techniques are Death, the narrator, and Max
Vandeburg, a central character. Death s narrative voice was distant and provided juxtaposition on the
kindness and cruelty of humans through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Max Vandenburg was able to escape Stuttgart by carrying Adolf Hitler s Mein Kampf which
highlights Hitler s hatred for Jewish people. The words in this story enforced the cruelty of human s,
the German s who succumbed to Hitler s words became Nazi s. In this context, it can be seen that
words can be used in a negative way, however, Max would later paint over the pages of Mein Kampf
to write his own story, The Standover Man which he would gift to Liesel, Max had cut out a collection
of pages from Mein Kampf and painted them over in white. This novel was an act of kindness for
Liesel who was fascinated by words yet could not buy novels or obtain them legally. Max s second
novel The Word Shaker was also gifted to Liesel when he d left for Dachau, in this he discusses the
power of words and how they can be used in a cruel way, Yes, the Fuhrer, decided that he would rule
the world with words..... He watched them grow, until eventually, great forests of words had risen
throughout Germany. Through Mein Kampf , The Standover Man and The Word Shaker the reader can

Psychological Disorders Presentation
Running head: PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS PRESENTATION Psychological Disorders
Presentation Debra Baker University of Phoenix Introduction to Behavioral Science BEH/225
Katherine Malish June 23, 2010 Psychological Disorders Presentation For many millennia
psychological disorders, also called mental disorders have been misunderstood. Used to, people
suffering from such disorders were thought to be demonically possessed or they were accused of being
a witch. Many of these unfortunate people were burned, tortured, or locked up away from society,
which was torturous in itself due to the deprivation of life sustaining necessities such as food and air
that patients were forced to endure (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Since ... Show more content on

Treatment of schizophrenic disorders involves taking drugs that are meant to decrease dopamine
amounts in the brain and to block dopamine receptors (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Personality
disorders are characteristic of a person s inability to adapt or be flexible to their environment through
their way of thinking and behavior. People with personality disorders include unconventional people,
as well as people who kill in cold blood serial killers for example (Morris and Maisto, 2002). A type of
personality disorder is paranoid personality disorder for which the person suffering from this cannot
trust anyone and is highly suspicious all the time. Most people with this disorder believe themselves to
be sensible and objective, but in reality they are argumentative, devious, secretive, and unable to take
the blame for their wrong doing (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Personality disorders are thought to be
aided by family, as well as community influences. For example, a child who feels rejected or
unwanted by a family member(s) will act out, taking his or her aggressions out in an unacceptable
manner such as defying rules and regulations at school or within the community (Morris and Maisto,
2002). Sexual disorders are classified into three main groups paraphilias, sexual dysfunction, and
gender identity disorders. Paraphilias disorder is the need to use unconventional objects to achieve
sexual arousal. Gender identity disorders

Analysis Of Long Day s Journey Into The Night And The Enemy
In the two readings of Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into the Night and Margarita Spalding
Gerry s The Enemy , we can compare and contrast the main characters of the women in each reading
on behalf of their drug addiction. In Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into the Night, Mary
Tyrone struggles with her addiction of Morphine and in Margarita Spalding Gerry s The Enemy , Mrs.
Campbell also struggles with morphine addiction. In both readings we can compare and contrast each
of these women s lifestyles and how they are affected by their morphine addiction. In both readings,
these two women were prescribed morphine by their doctors. In Long Day s Journey Into the Night,
Mary Tyrone is prescribed morphine for her so called Rheumatism and Mrs. Cambell from The
Enemy was prescribed morphine for some slight neuralgic trouble, after analyzing both texts, it seems
like the reasons for their morphine prescription is just a cover up for a different and a more deep
reasoning to kill their pain. In The Enemy the doctor is blamed for prescribing Mrs. Campbell
morphine just to make a profit, Oh yes, there are always druggists that pander to anything with a profit
Both doctors can be put at fault for the start of their addiction for prescribing morphine to someone
who does not necessarily need it. By prescribing morphine to these women, they have an excuse to
continue their use of morphine because they believe they have a logical problem that they need to
control. In Long Day s Journey Into the Night, Mary recognizes her doctor is all in it for profit, I hate
doctors! They ll do anything anything to keep them coming to them. They ll sell their souls! What s
worse, they ll sell yours, and you never know it till one day you find yourself in hell! (P.76) Even
though Mary recognizes the truth behind these doctors, she stills uses her Rheumatism disease as a
legitimate excuse to use morphine as she explains to her son Edmund that she shouldn t be ashamed of
her addiction, I suffer from rheumatism in my hands and have to take medicine to kill the pain? Why
should I be ashamed of that? (P. 118) The more in depth cause of these addictions may be affected by
cultural expectations of their

The Secret Agent
Joseph Conrad s The Secret Agent is a before its time political masterpiece in the form of fictional
literature that grips the minds of an audience who may or may not have ever thought to question the
majority existence. After the occurrences of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, scholars,
educators, and the general public, in a desperate attempt to justify what was happening in the United
States, took notice of an otherwise buried great work. The terrorist theme in The Secret Agent is
initially straight forward to readers, but as the novel unravels with Conrad s immense use of adjectives
to describe the characters and setting of the story line, it becomes apparent that Conrad s objective is
to demonstrate social chaos as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On April 20th, 1999, two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, walked into their high school and
opened fire killing twelve fellow students, one teacher, and then finally themselves (Lamb). The
nation stood still. At that time, it was considered the deadliest school shooting in US history. After the
mourning and confusion opened way to questions, the students were closely examined and people
tried to make sense of why these two had planned for over a year to exterminate so many innocent
students and teachers. The Konformist, an anarchist website and blog, released statements by Bill
White of the Utopian Anarchist Party in response to the Columbine shootings. He stated There is no
ballot for young people, there is only the bullet. So it can be of no surprise today that students have
struck back with bullets and not through ineffective non violent civil disobedience ( Konformist ).
White s salute to the two young men and their insurrection against the indoctrination machine (
Konformist ), is in line with the notion that anarchism can be found in any rebellion against the norm.
Winnie, who lives her life to maintain a stable environment for her mentally challenged brother, also
manifests anarchy in a very different way. She revolts against her character and in some ways against
the role of the Victorian woman. Winnie momentarily breaks character when she kills the man she is
serving in return for stability. She becomes the novel s focused anarchist. The only anarchist to
correctly carry out such an extreme act to avenge her brother. Literary reviewers such as Colas,
suggests that Winnie failed her anarchist title when she took her own life. He compares her to Satan as
she shamefully begs Ossipon to care for her after murdering Verloc (Colas). However, in the author s

Challenges Facing Indigenous Latin Americans
Smith discusses how important advances have been made over the past four decades in improving
both the living and the political conditions for many of Latin America s indigenous peoples. Chase
Smith discusses five major challenges facing Indigenous Latin Americans. Three of which will be
discussed in this report. Firstly, there are many challenges regarding territory and resources. Smith
states that since the beginning of European colonial domination in the Americas, that Indigenous
peoples have suffered and protested the continual loss of access to their land and resources in order to
their place in this world. The twentieth century brought political and organizational innovations to
support indigenous peoples attempts to recover and insure access to resources. Chase uses the example
of Brazil, the Andean Amazon and parts of Central America, in which, the Indigenous peoples
demands now focus on state recognition of their collective rights to a territory, which includes subsoil
and surface resources. Smith emphasized that Latin American republics has usually limited the
recognition of territorial rights for Indigenous peoples to those populations that are defined by law as
indigenous. This often leaves out and marginalizes large Indigenous populations catalogued as peasant
or as mestizo . According to Smith, this idea leaves out two important outcomes of those debates that
go hand in hand. One being that all human beings have the right to define for themselves

Analyzing Erikson s Psychosocial Theory
Erikson s Psychosocial Theory is the one that would stick with me the most. Lot of it makes sense
because with the different stages he s mentioned such as trust vs mistrust, identity vs role confusion,
intimacy versus isolations to integrity vs despair. The trust vs mistrust sticks because of some of the
stories and clips that was in class. With trust vs mistrust the idea is if a child has bad things happen in
certain situations the child will begin to mistrust. While for trust if positive reinforcement is
established the child begins to develop self control and learns to redirect there feelings or emotions. In
one video about an abused girl she was redirecting her anger toward her baby brother which came
from the mistrust of her abuser.

Lord Simon Lord Of The Flies Analysis
When put into a life or death situation the evil within someone will eventually claw a way out and
display itself upon actions. This concept is clearly shown in William Golding s Lord of the Flies; a
novel that shows the hope of rescue and the need for survival among a group of boys when they get
stuck on an island by themselves without adult authority. As time on the island progressed, Ralph, the
elected leader began to lose control and authority of the boys; the island caught on fire, boys were
being murdered and rescue was not the main concern anymore, but the need to hunt and kill was. All
humans are born accompanied by both good and evil; however, most humans will live their lives with
the intention of not letting the evil take them over. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simon, from a biblical aspect is Jesus like and is one of the only boys on the island who realized that
the beast was nothing but a child s imagination. During one of the frequently called assemblies the
boys discuss the beast, Simon steps into the conversation and says, what I mean is... maybe it s only us
(Golding, Lord 77). Simon is trying to explain to the boys that maybe the belief in the beast is in their
imaginations and the thing to fear on the island is themselves. Piggy interrupts Simon s theory by
declaring it nuts, but as Simon tried to continue he became inarticulate in his effort to express
mankind s essential illness (Golding, Lord 77). The boys found it difficult and almost impossible to
wrap their heads around what simon was saying, which was, all humans have the potential to become
evil. Nobody has the motive to become evil, all somebody really needs is a situation in which allows

values and attitudes allows for a self reflexive investigation into peoples growth. Two significant
outcomes of my personal childhood was the value of feminism and the attitude of ambition. Valuing
feminism was an outcome of socialisation from my childhood. Socialisation occurred in the family
microsystem, the biggest influencer on a child (REF81). The method of socialisation was
observational, using the technique of modelling (Wright 2016). As an example, from ages 3 14, my
mother was a single parent, during that time she both attended university and had a full time job, being
as successful as my father. My mother socialised me to understand an equality between men and
women. My mothers parenting style was permissive, allowing for exploration

Altruism In The Crucible By Henry Perowne
Altruism is a staple part of the Theory of Mind. It involves being capable of putting yourself in
another individual s shoes, sympathizing or acknowledging how they ended up where they are.
Perowne tends to have a basic understanding and acceptance of altruism. He feels for the street
sweeper because he, himself, is of a higher class than this man, he is in a position of control. However,
this does not lead Perowne to act to help the street sweeper, he instead acknowledges their differences
and then pities him because of his hard work, that amounts to nothing: as he moves up the street
cleaning it well, the street behind him that he just finished piles up with garbage again. This scene
does not lead readers to view atheism as an accurate outlet for morality, if it was Perowne would have

Impact Of Opt Out Systems
IMPACT OF OPT OUT SYSTEMS
The Taskforce consider opting out information to be more sensitive in nature than information
provided by opting in Organ Donation Register ( Organ Donation Taskforce , 20). The current is based
on an open access website with an electronic register that is available to all hospital staff. In an opt out
system, not registering in this register may mean that someone s organs may be taken when they have
had a serious objection to this. Theoretically, it is possible for someone to re enter someone s name on
the register without them knowing, although there is no evidence to suggest that this will happen on a
wide scale. This is why some may argue that an opt out system would require far greater security due
to the sensitive nature of the information. This information could be accommodated on the Personal
Demographics Service ( Organ Donation Taskforce , 2008) but entering all this data would be a drain
on the NHS resources especially at the start of an opt out system which would involve entering the
data of several million people. People may also choose to be increasingly specific about which organs
or tissues they choose to donate as medicine advances so the framework required for would be rather
complex. This would also take a large toll on the funds provided to the NHS with the costs of for the
setup of IT and communications approximating to £45 million. An additional £5 million per year is
needed to refresh public messages and an estimated £10

Herodotus On The Customs Of Persians
This essays point is to analyze the primary source and review what the document tells us about the
Persians and what it might be telling us about the Greeks. The primary source being used is On the
Customs of Persians by Herodotus which is written from his view point on the Persians in comparison
to the Greeks customs and beliefs. This paper will discuss the similarities and differences between the
two with evidence found in the primary source to back it up with quotes and explanations to why it s
important. The Greeks and Persians while sharing some similarities they are outweighed by the two s
differences such as; their image in god, sacrificing rituals, customs, and death rituals. The first
difference we see between the two and could also be the biggest, is the Persians not having a set image
of god since the Greeks see their gods as in the same nature as man. We can infer this to Persians by
this quote: They have no images of god, no temples nor alters, and consider them a sign of folly.
(Herodotus par.2) Which tells us they do not see gods as an image of man like the Greeks, they would

Evidence And Circumstantial Evidence
The collection of evidence, whether it be direct, circumstantial, physical, or testimonial, is very
important to a case. Why? Because that evidence is what the prosecution hopes will end with a
conviction. However, sometimes things happen and evidence gets contaminated. Now, the biggest
thing to determine is whether the contamination happened on accident or if someone tampered with it
on purpose.
There are four different types of evidence, direct, circumstantial, physical, and testimonial. Direct
evidence is evidence that is in the form of a testimony that someone has seen, heard, or physically
touched (Direct evidence, 2008). So that, if believed, proves a fact without inference or presumptions
(Direct evidence, 2008). This is different from circumstantial in the fact that direct evidence erases the
questioning and thinking behind the evidence itself (Direct evidence, 2008). ... Show more content on

It is a series of facts that require reasoning and experience (Circumstantial evidence, 2008). The
members of the court who are presenting circumstantial evidence to the jury argues that the series of
facts that they are presenting resemble the facts proven so closely that they are just inferred to be truth
and that is what the jury must decide (Circumstantial evidence, 2008). For example, if James sees
William shoot Emily that s direct evidence, but if James see William and Emily go into another room
together and hears William say that he was going to shoot Emily, and then hears a gun shot and
William comes out the room holding a gun and Emily is dead, James testimony would be

Silicon Valley Discrimination
1. Silicon Valley is an extremely competitive place to work. Many multi billion dollar company s
headquarters like Google, Apple, Pinterest, and Facebook are located here. These companies want the
best of the best for every position in their company and in most cases, they are able to have it.
I do not think affirmative action is needed in the situation of computer coders. Affirmative action
helps make all things equal or nearly equal, it promotes the least advantaged. It helps keeps negative
discrimination to a minimum. The students from Howard think that they are being discriminated
against because they are African American when in reality they are being discriminated against
because they do not have the skills that the other candidates have. In this case, the discrimination is

Annotated Bibliography On Personalized Medicine
Personalized medicine can lead to the development of great discoveries that could revolutionize the
world. The research of personalized medicine is new and costly but that is not the only setback this
new science must face. Personalized medicine has also presented issues of race and gender that cannot
be silenced until further research is conducted. It is clear that personalized medicine could provide
great benefits for fighting illness, but it can lead to issues of underrepresentation of race and concerns
of gender in terms of drug safety and with the little that is known right now the cost outweigh the
benefits. The need for new and more effective treatment continues to increase and personalized
medicine appears to be the answer to our prayers. With further research personalized medicine could
revolutionize pharmaceuticals and to go out on a limb even find a cure for aids and other cancers. But
it is too early to have high expectations for a science that has not been deeply explored. It seems that
the fantasy of finding a perfect match treatment for each individual has raised support from many
institutions including the White House and the FDA. There have been some recent personalized
medicine treatments approved by the FDA and this has lead President Obama to bring forward the
Precision Medicine Initiative (U.S. Food and Drug Administration), which would give millions in
monetary support for research to be conducted on personalized medicine. The issue here is whether

Essay about Small Change
Small Change What determines a movement? Malcolm Gladwell defines what pushes a movement to
make a difference. He analyzes the concept of strong ties and weak ties and how these relationships
affect an individual s willpower and determination to help a cause. Gregory Orr puts these ideas into
context in his memoir, Return to Hayneville , in which he recounts his experience and involvement in
the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Malcolm Gladwell s Small Change: Why the Revolution Will

Orr s experience helped him learn about himself and primarily helps an individual discover the
importance of living. Gladwell would classify Orr as someone who shared no relationship with the
cause and only joined because because he wanted to find himself in the midst of chaos not necessarily
because he was passionate about the civil rights movement. Gladwell describes the movement of sit
ins across the south as a fever . Orr found himself caught up in the contagion, he endured the beatings
and the injustice the same as everyone else but his motives were not set for civil rights, he realized this
when he was taken and held captive, Even as I sank into depression and brooded in the stifling heat of
that jail barn, I was learning that I wanted to live, (Orr, 223). When he was released Orr left without
alerting the COFO office because he felt ashamed. It was easy for him to walk away from the cause
for him to walk away from the cause because he as he left he wasn t leaving anything or anyone
behind. Gladwell s explains that weak ties seldom lead to high risk activism (Gladwell, 137). In
Gregory Orr s essay, Return to Hayneville , published by The Virginia Quarterly Review, Orr revisited
the place of his abduction by armed vigilantes in Alabama as a Civil Rights worker in 1965. Even

Executive Shirt Company Case Analysis

EXECUTIVE SHIRT COMPANY CASE

Darshan Karkera
Sukvinder Singh
Sunil Kumar
A Touseefullah Siddiqui
Q.1) Compute the following quantities for the current production process as well as for Mike s and Ike
s plans, assuming the plans are implemented as described in the case.
Solution:
Current batch processing
Sales for the Executive Shirt Company are constituted of only a few basic styles and colours. Hence
the company has a limited number of varieties to produce. So, it has large batches of each kind of shirt
(size and color).
It has only one cutting machine, which is computer controlled and can cut up to 60 layers of cloth at
the same time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cycle time / shirt = 30 / 60 = 0.5 min / shirt.
The work in process inventory = Total number of batches in all operations * Batch size
= (16 + 144 + 12 + 12 + 12) * 60
= 196 * 60 = 11760 shirts
Now we can apply Little s Law to calculate the throughput time which is equal to the manufacturing
lead time in this case.
By Little s Law,
Throughput time = Work in process / Throughput rate = Work in process * Cycle time
= 11760 * 0.5
= 5880 minutes
Since production goes on for 8 hrs per day, manufacturing lead time = 5880 / (8 * 60)
= 12.25 days
Total number of shirts produced per month is 16,000. The company works for 20 days a month.
So, the output per day = 16000 / 20 = 800 shirts.
In, 8 hours a day, the company can produce 60 * 8 * (1/0.5) = 960 shirts, which is the current
production capacity. But it needs to produce only 800 shirts.
So, the capacity utilization = (800 / 960) * 100 = 83.33%
The actual labor utilized = Number of shirts produced * Direct labor content
= 800 * 25.76
= 20608 minutes
The available labor for utilization = Total number of workers * Hours per day *

Slavery Tribulation In American History
Throughout World History, many atrocious and abominable things have happened to human beings
throughout time. Babies have been slaughtered in wars, people have been killed by severe natural
disasters, and people have even been eaten by cannibals. But nothing seems to come close in
comparison to the Transatlantic Slave Trade and what those people had to toil through. They were
mercilessly beaten, branded, and even considered less than human by their fellow humans. The slaves
of this horrific time in American History, from the 1400s to the 1860s, went through possibly the
worst tribulation in human history. Although slavery was more of an economic institution, was the
brutal treatment of slaves in the Americas necessary to keep them in line? ... Show more content on

These sadistic practices were needed to make sure that the slaves made it to their final destination
alive, whether or not they were in the best shape. Although the women were not chained down like the
men, they were horribly abused by the slave traders. The traders were allowed to rape them which led
to the women committing suicide by jumping overboard and drowning. Rape was not necessary to
scare those people into submission. Slave traders went beyond what was necessary to keep slaves.
Although at some points the slaves fought back and rebelled, the treatment of the slaves on ships

Pros and Cons of Free Trade
Geography: Pros and Cons of Free Trade
Few can contend that the world is more interconnected and interrelated more than ever. This web of
interdependency is primarily made possible by trade, and in the twenty first century, a large and
significant portion of trade is conducted on a global scale. Furthermore, while the majority of people
agree that free trade can benefit both parties in terms of economic development and an increase in
overall production, many critics have voiced their fears of the negative consequences that may result
from a global trade environment with few barriers or limits. Proponents of free trade argue that
benefits far outweigh costs and that the primary gain is efficiency of production achieved through

This desire to obtain greater profits by decreasing cost and increasing efficiency of production results
in innovations that may include time saving technology or better methods for manufacturing.
Therefore, free trade fosters global competition for lower prices, cost effective production techniques,
and a greater emphasis on quality and performance.
All of the above arguments support the assertion that free trade has many benefits to countries
involved as well as to their citizens. It promotes economic growth to the nation as a whole while
improving the quality of life for its workers. Furthermore, because the nation is becoming more
prosperous, some serious social problems such as unemployment and illegal immigration may be
alleviated as well. In Omhmae s The Rise of the Region State, he claims that region states welcome
foreign trade and investment because it increases productivity and improve quality of life. They want
their people to have access to the best and cheapest products. And they want whatever surplus accrues
from these activities to ratchet up the local quality of life still further... Therefore, when weighing the
positives and negatives of free trade, a country must take into account all the benefits in the daily lives
of its people that will be a direct result of unrestricted trade.

Authority
Authority is the power an organization gives to a supervisor to do something or to get something done.
There are two types of authority: formal and informal. Formal authority comes with the position a
person holds in the organization. Informal authority, also referred to as personal authority, is the power
you have because of your abilities and personal traits. In my opinion, authority is means want to
control something in your hand. Formal authority means use law or rules to control the store or public
place. Informal authority means you want to control something by yourself, nobody help you.

Strengths In Mark Bowden s Black Hawk Down
Violence, death, profanity. Usually a book containing these subjects, along with many other disturbing
aspects, would not be recommended for teenagers to read. However, looking past all of those details,
Black Hawk Down actually has valuable lessons within it. The author, Mark Bowden, writes about the
Battle Of Mogadishu that occurred from December 1992 to October 1993, and includes useful
information within his novel. He focuses on the truth about war, weaknesses and strengths within it,
and also lessons that can be learned from these subjects. The subject of war is often romanticized.

There are quite a few positive characteristics within the troops as well that make up for the mistakes
they may have made. One main one is that they always have each others backs. The Deltas look after
the Rangers, and act as their role models. It was as if the Rangers saw the D Boys as their big brothers,
and since their big brothers were around, everything would be okay (Bowden 234). This shows the
bond between the troops, and adds emotion to the novel. Another characteristic is that the older
soldiers try to be positive throughout the war, even if situations got tough. Smith was now asking the
medic to tell his parents and family good bye . . . Hold on tight, Schmid told the dying corporal. We re
working on getting you out of here (Bowden 238). There are also some points within the novel that
show soldiers making jokes about their situation, instead of letting it bring them down and get the best
of them. The final trait is that even throughout all of the horrors the two teams went through during
the war, they still did their best and pushed through until it was finally over. There s no doubt that the
perception people have of this episode is that it was a total fiasco. Bowden says. But this was a
successfully completed mission. And in the eyes of the military men involved, it s a mission they re
very proud of (EDIT). So even though these teams saw, heard, and participated in horrifying events, in

How Does Gandhi Use Passive Resistance To Injustice
The great Martin Luther King once said, Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Over the
course of human history, injustice has been a cancer to everyone struggling and fighting for freedom.
From Gandhi s resistance and fight for freedom against the British to Nelson Mandela s struggle to
end apartheid, injustice continues to threaten humanity all over the world today. Since the end of
apartheid South Africa in 1994, not much has changed when it pertains to injustice to humanity.
Throughout history, injustice has been met with different methods. Gandhi fought injustice using
passive resistance, rather than fighting back with violence he turned the other cheek to his aggressors.

Alternative healthcare options also known as alternative medicine is any of various method of healing

It is hard to picture that along with others that, 6 million Jews were targeted and killed during the

According to A Teacher s Guide to the Holocaust, once Hitler was in control of the German
government he translated his harsh feeling toward Jews into many policies and statutes which eroded
the rights of German Jews from 1933 1939 ( Victims ). The anti Jewish racist legislation passed The

I think many German people and Nazis were pressured to join the Nazi Party in this mass murder
because, if found or caught helping out the Jews in any way they were considered traitors and possibly
killed as well. Jews and only the Jews were singled out for total elimination. Even though the
Germans did not want a few groups in their way, they did not want to kill them off. The ideal of
reducing inferior Polish and Russian populations to create space for a stretched out German Reich
would not be realized, but the elimination of as many Jews as possible from the world stage stayed
Germany s all time major concern, to which resources sustained to be directed even as the war was
being lost. Nor were the Jews given a opportunity to change or correct their customs. The Nazis did
not want the Jews to inner mix with Germans so they created a law. At no point in time, for any reason
was a Jew allowed to break these laws, or they would be torture, maybe even murdered. According to

Ballad Of Birmingham By Dudley Randall
In the 1960s racial discrimination, segregation, and race inspired violence was at its worst. Jim Crow
laws kept white and African American people separate in public, the Ku Klux, Klan forced African
Americans to fear for their lives every minute of every day, and absolutely nothing was happening to
change these injustices. African Americans participated in thousands of nonviolent boycotts, freedom
marches, and protests and nothing was ever changed until the morning of September 15, 1963. On that
morning, a bomb, made of dynamite, forever changed the lives of the citizens attending the 16th Street
Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Four young black girls died in the bombing, inspiring poet
Dudley Randall to write his powerful poem, Ballad of Birmingham. Through his poetry, Randall
influenced change in the Civil Rights movement, and by owning the largest printing press of the
1960s, played a huge role in the Black Arts Movement. Dudley Randall s ballad, Ballad of
Birmingham, expresses his feelings of helplessness and sorrow after the tragic and senseless 16th
Street Baptist Church bombing using irony, imagery, and tone to allow his readers to understand what
life was like for African Americans in America in the 1960s. Irony in Ballad of Birmingham is found
throughout the poem starting in the very beginning of the poem because one would expect the mother
to be the one to want to go to the freedom march, not a young girl. Also irony is present in the poem

Borders Are The Worst Invention Ever Made By Politicians...
The Problem
Borders are the worst invention ever made by politicians, Jean Claude Juncker, the European
Commission president stated this while reflecting on globalization s failed promise of borderless
nations, and the creation of borders more rigid than ever (2016). Across the world, wall building has
become the common political strategy used by nations who deem physical barriers as the only way to
deal with difficult neighboring nations. The increasing fortification of borders as not just a political
line, but as an established physical barrier, responds to the security and migration issues at a global
level. Border walls are used for varying purposes, walls can separate opposing forces; often, they are
used to make territorial claims; however the more problematic use, is the keep out unwanted groups.
When the Berlin Wall fell nearly three decades ago, there were 16 border walls in the world; today the
number is ever growing with over 70 completed border walls globally (Brunet Jailly, 2016). Experts
agree that walls do not address the root problems of security and migration, supported by the fact that
global refugee applications and terrorist attacks have increased tremendously even though countries
have walled themselves off; which leaves unanswered questions as to the real reason walls are still
being built. Although building a wall has become a common political strategy in response to global
concerns of security and migration, nations should consider the reasoning

Key Enterprise Tech Trends For 2015 And Beyond By Eric Knorr

Knorr, select, rank and compare your top five trends. Discuss the reasons for your ranking? The below
listed topics are ranked and compared accordingly to the argument of innovation and global need. The
given reasons generate reasonable understanding of the trends and their importance in enterprise
systems: 1. The triumph of the public cloud I ranked this trend first because I believe it is one of the
most advanced and talked about topic in tech world in present year. This controversial topic is creating
buzz all over the world. With advancement of technology, various tech companies have increased their
effort to provide a free cloud storage system. Eric Knorr also listed this topic as a number one tech
trend in his list. I believe this topic itself is one of the major challenges for public and private
companies in term to provide certain product which not only is hard to maintain as well as complex
and costly to generate. IT Companies can shift their fundamental competitive landscape by fabricating
a new platform which will help to create and deliver values businesses have to its stakeholders (IBM,
2012). The cloud based storage can be used by companies to generate Enterprise data which can be
used as various decision making and evaluation tools. (Stair and Reynolds, n.d.) 2. Liquid Computing:

Sn1 Reaction Lab Report
SN1 reactions only occur with certain reagents under very specific conditions. These reactions have an
intermediate and occur in two distinct steps. The first step is the formation of the carbocation once the
leaving group departs from the molecule. The type of leaving group is vital in determining if an SN1
reaction will occur. In general, the efficiency of the leaving group increases as the size of the halide
ion increases. However, p Toluensulfonate is the most effective and reactive leaving group. As this
step forms a carbocation, it is important to note that the type of carbocation that will form. SN1
reactions will not occur if the intermediate is not stable. Therefore, the degree of substitution of the
leaving group, and consequently the carbocation, is vital. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Correspondingly, primary alkyl halides are the least likely to react. Additionally, the solvent has the
ability to stabilize the carbocation. A polar protic solvent is favored as it will form hydrogen bonds to
further stabilize the carbocation intermediate. Overall, SN1 reactions are widely dependent on the
formation of a stable carbocation intermediate. Since SN1 reactions are dependent on the formation of
the carbocation, and that step occurs separately from the nucleophilic addition, the rate of the reaction
is not typically affected by the nature or concentration of the nucleophile. The mechanism of an SN1
reaction is consistent. First, the leaving group leaves forming the carbocation. The intermediate

carbocation, which forms the substituted product in either a racemic mixture or with some form of

The Influence Of Lin Vs. Lin On Chinese Foreign Relations
In the 1839 Chinese foreign relations was based on what was good for China. If they were making
profits, everything was peachy. But if more harm was being done than good, the Chinese as Lin Zexu
says, would remove it for the world. China was very strict on Europeans living in China. Emperor
Qian only allowed Europeans that he thought in service of the dynasty to stay, and they must obey
strict rules. Europeans had to adopt Chinese dress, were forced to stay in their designated precincts ,
and were never allowed to return to or communicate with their home country. It was the respect of
these rules by the British rulers, according to Lin that China had welcomed so hospitably trade with
England for last two hundred years. But recently Lin describes a change in the English trade. He
begins to describe this group as barbarians that are interested only in profit, regardless of who they

Christopher Grau s Bad Dreams, Evil Demons, and the...
In Bad Dreams, Evil Demons, and the Experience Machine: Philosophy and the Matrix , Christopher
Grau explains Rene Descartes argument in Meditation. What one may interpret as reality may not be
more than a figment of one s imagination. One argument that Grau points out in Descartes essay is
how one knows that what one think is an everyday experience awake is not all a part of a
hallucination. He uses the example of dreams to draw a conclusion about is claim based on
experiences one would experience with dreaming. He asserts that there are times when one wake up
from a dream that seems to be vivid and realistic however soon finds that it was not. The experience of
reality in the dream was all a part of the mind. If dreams seem to be ... Show more content on

He gives another scenario of when he lies in the bed he can dream that his he is sitting by the fire with
is nightgown when in fact there is no such event he is undressed in the bed. This reinforces that idea
one cannot trust what one is experiencing to actually be real. What proof can one bring that one awake
other than oneself just knowing . This is the point Descartes wan to call to attention.
Although Descartes argument seems plausible decades ago, now there are ways to weaken is
argument. In the science of psychology which focuses on the brain one can find that there are ways of
knowing one is dreaming or sleep. Descartes even contradicts himself when he asserts that even if all
of our sensory experience is but a dream, we can still conclude that we have some knowledge of the
nature of reality . I believe that Descartes knows that he is not dreaming in a constant state of dream
but that there is a sense of reality that one experiences. What one experiences are senses such as smell
and touch that one cannot perform in a dream world. Being able to touch and have the sensation of
touching an item such as a table in a dream does not happen. The sensation of pain is also an indicator
of a reality that does not exist in the reaffirms that one is not in reality.
There is physical evidence that proves that people have control over their dreams; it s called lucid
dreaming. Having a

Aristotle s Virtue Is A Disposition That Issues Correct...
In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle understands virtue is a disposition that issues correct choice. In this
essay, we are given the task to explain what Aristotle means by choice, which is in turn show that
choice is not wishes, opinion, nor desire. Rather, Aristotle believes choice involves desire. So, I will
explain concisely why correct choice is not a tendency to opine the correct thing to do rather correct
choice is an intimate coordination between our rational and desiring faculties. Thus, controlling and
coordinating what we desire and why we desire something. Ultimately, leading the agent to what the
right thing they should do, full stop, regardless of numerous alternatives. We will focus on what
Aristotle means by choice, as presented in the Nicomachean Ethics. First, we will understand what
choice is not to Aristotle. For Aristotle, choice is not a wish because wishes can be related to
impossibilities, such as immortality, which are things that we cannot do. Rather, what we wish for is
the goal or the end that we are trying to achieve and choices are the means that will get us to the end.
Next, Aristotle believes that choice is not equivalent to opinion in the sense of arriving at a belief
about what to do. Aristotle says, it cannot be opinion; for opinion is thought to be related to all kinds
of things, no less to eternal things and impossible things than to things in our own power; and it is
distinguished by its falsity or truth, not by its badness or

the 1970s and spread across countries that included the United Kingdom, the United States of America
and Australia. This subculture was based on a loud, aggressive genre of music called punk rock, and it
intended to gain individual freedom for the working class. This essay explains the journey from the

  • 2. The Book Thief Rhetorical Analysis The Book Thief, written by Australian novelist Markus Zusak, follows a young girl living in Nazi Germany, and employs innovative techniques to convey the central idea of the extremes of human behavior. This central idea was explored through stylistic techniques and conventions such as Death as the narrator, juxtaposition, irony, lack of chronological order, narrative voices, and themes, namely the power of words. In The Book Thief, Markus Zusak used narrative voices to convey extremes of human behavior. The characters through which he conveyed these innovated techniques are Death, the narrator, and Max Vandeburg, a central character. Death s narrative voice was distant and provided juxtaposition on the kindness and cruelty of humans through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychological Disorders Presentation Running head: PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS PRESENTATION Psychological Disorders Presentation Debra Baker University of Phoenix Introduction to Behavioral Science BEH/225 Katherine Malish June 23, 2010 Psychological Disorders Presentation For many millennia psychological disorders, also called mental disorders have been misunderstood. Used to, people suffering from such disorders were thought to be demonically possessed or they were accused of being a witch. Many of these unfortunate people were burned, tortured, or locked up away from society, which was torturous in itself due to the deprivation of life sustaining necessities such as food and air that patients were forced to endure (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Treatment of schizophrenic disorders involves taking drugs that are meant to decrease dopamine amounts in the brain and to block dopamine receptors (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Personality disorders are characteristic of a person s inability to adapt or be flexible to their environment through their way of thinking and behavior. People with personality disorders include unconventional people, as well as people who kill in cold blood serial killers for example (Morris and Maisto, 2002). A type of personality disorder is paranoid personality disorder for which the person suffering from this cannot trust anyone and is highly suspicious all the time. Most people with this disorder believe themselves to be sensible and objective, but in reality they are argumentative, devious, secretive, and unable to take the blame for their wrong doing (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Personality disorders are thought to be aided by family, as well as community influences. For example, a child who feels rejected or unwanted by a family member(s) will act out, taking his or her aggressions out in an unacceptable manner such as defying rules and regulations at school or within the community (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Sexual disorders are classified into three main groups paraphilias, sexual dysfunction, and gender identity disorders. Paraphilias disorder is the need to use unconventional objects to achieve sexual arousal. Gender identity disorders ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Long Day s Journey Into The Night And The Enemy In the two readings of Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into the Night and Margarita Spalding Gerry s The Enemy , we can compare and contrast the main characters of the women in each reading on behalf of their drug addiction. In Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into the Night, Mary Tyrone struggles with her addiction of Morphine and in Margarita Spalding Gerry s The Enemy , Mrs. Campbell also struggles with morphine addiction. In both readings we can compare and contrast each of these women s lifestyles and how they are affected by their morphine addiction. In both readings, these two women were prescribed morphine by their doctors. In Long Day s Journey Into the Night, Mary Tyrone is prescribed morphine for her so called Rheumatism and Mrs. Cambell from The Enemy was prescribed morphine for some slight neuralgic trouble, after analyzing both texts, it seems like the reasons for their morphine prescription is just a cover up for a different and a more deep reasoning to kill their pain. In The Enemy the doctor is blamed for prescribing Mrs. Campbell morphine just to make a profit, Oh yes, there are always druggists that pander to anything with a profit Both doctors can be put at fault for the start of their addiction for prescribing morphine to someone who does not necessarily need it. By prescribing morphine to these women, they have an excuse to continue their use of morphine because they believe they have a logical problem that they need to control. In Long Day s Journey Into the Night, Mary recognizes her doctor is all in it for profit, I hate doctors! They ll do anything anything to keep them coming to them. They ll sell their souls! What s worse, they ll sell yours, and you never know it till one day you find yourself in hell! (P.76) Even though Mary recognizes the truth behind these doctors, she stills uses her Rheumatism disease as a legitimate excuse to use morphine as she explains to her son Edmund that she shouldn t be ashamed of her addiction, I suffer from rheumatism in my hands and have to take medicine to kill the pain? Why should I be ashamed of that? (P. 118) The more in depth cause of these addictions may be affected by cultural expectations of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Secret Agent Joseph Conrad s The Secret Agent is a before its time political masterpiece in the form of fictional literature that grips the minds of an audience who may or may not have ever thought to question the majority existence. After the occurrences of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, scholars, educators, and the general public, in a desperate attempt to justify what was happening in the United States, took notice of an otherwise buried great work. The terrorist theme in The Secret Agent is initially straight forward to readers, but as the novel unravels with Conrad s immense use of adjectives to describe the characters and setting of the story line, it becomes apparent that Conrad s objective is to demonstrate social chaos as well as ... On April 20th, 1999, two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, walked into their high school and opened fire killing twelve fellow students, one teacher, and then finally themselves (Lamb). The nation stood still. At that time, it was considered the deadliest school shooting in US history. After the mourning and confusion opened way to questions, the students were closely examined and people tried to make sense of why these two had planned for over a year to exterminate so many innocent students and teachers. The Konformist, an anarchist website and blog, released statements by Bill White of the Utopian Anarchist Party in response to the Columbine shootings. He stated There is no ballot for young people, there is only the bullet. So it can be of no surprise today that students have struck back with bullets and not through ineffective non violent civil disobedience ( Konformist ). White s salute to the two young men and their insurrection against the indoctrination machine ( Konformist ), is in line with the notion that anarchism can be found in any rebellion against the norm. Winnie, who lives her life to maintain a stable environment for her mentally challenged brother, also manifests anarchy in a very different way. She revolts against her character and in some ways against the role of the Victorian woman. Winnie momentarily breaks character when she kills the man she is serving in return for stability. She becomes the novel s focused anarchist. The only anarchist to correctly carry out such an extreme act to avenge her brother. Literary reviewers such as Colas, suggests that Winnie failed her anarchist title when she took her own life. He compares her to Satan as she shamefully begs Ossipon to care for her after murdering Verloc (Colas). However, in the author s notes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Challenges Facing Indigenous Latin Americans Smith discusses how important advances have been made over the past four decades in improving both the living and the political conditions for many of Latin America s indigenous peoples. Chase Smith discusses five major challenges facing Indigenous Latin Americans. Three of which will be discussed in this report. Firstly, there are many challenges regarding territory and resources. Smith states that since the beginning of European colonial domination in the Americas, that Indigenous peoples have suffered and protested the continual loss of access to their land and resources in order to their place in this world. The twentieth century brought political and organizational innovations to support indigenous peoples attempts to recover and insure access to resources. Chase uses the example of Brazil, the Andean Amazon and parts of Central America, in which, the Indigenous peoples demands now focus on state recognition of their collective rights to a territory, which includes subsoil and surface resources. Smith emphasized that Latin American republics has usually limited the recognition of territorial rights for Indigenous peoples to those populations that are defined by law as indigenous. This often leaves out and marginalizes large Indigenous populations catalogued as peasant or as mestizo . According to Smith, this idea leaves out two important outcomes of those debates that go hand in hand. One being that all human beings have the right to define for themselves ... Lot of it makes sense because with the different stages he s mentioned such as trust vs mistrust, identity vs role confusion, intimacy versus isolations to integrity vs despair. With trust vs mistrust the idea is if a child has bad things happen in certain situations the child will begin to mistrust. This concept is clearly shown in William Golding s Lord of the Flies; a novel that shows the hope of rescue and the need for survival among a group of boys when they get stuck on an island by themselves without adult authority. As time on the island progressed, Ralph, the elected leader began to lose control and authority of the boys; the island caught on fire, boys were being murdered and rescue was not the main concern anymore, but the need to hunt and kill was. Two significant outcomes of my personal childhood was the value of feminism and the attitude of ambition. Valuing feminism was an outcome of socialisation from my childhood. Socialisation occurred in the family microsystem, the biggest influencer on a child (REF81). The method of socialisation was observational, using the technique of modelling (Wright 2016). As an example, from ages 3 14, my mother was a single parent, during that time she both attended university and had a full time job, being as successful as my father. It involves being capable of putting yourself in another individual s shoes, sympathizing or acknowledging how they ended up where they are. However, this does not lead Perowne to act to help the street sweeper, he instead acknowledges their differences and then pities him because of his hard work, that amounts to nothing: as he moves up the street cleaning it well, the street behind him that he just finished piles up with garbage again. • 11. Impact Of Opt Out Systems IMPACT OF OPT OUT SYSTEMS The Taskforce consider opting out information to be more sensitive in nature than information provided by opting in Organ Donation Register ( Organ Donation Taskforce , 20). The current is based on an open access website with an electronic register that is available to all hospital staff. In an opt out system, not registering in this register may mean that someone s organs may be taken when they have had a serious objection to this. Theoretically, it is possible for someone to re enter someone s name on the register without them knowing, although there is no evidence to suggest that this will happen on a wide scale. This is why some may argue that an opt out system would require far greater security due to the sensitive nature of the information. This information could be accommodated on the Personal Demographics Service ( Organ Donation Taskforce , 2008) but entering all this data would be a drain on the NHS resources especially at the start of an opt out system which would involve entering the data of several million people. People may also choose to be increasingly specific about which organs or tissues they choose to donate as medicine advances so the framework required for would be rather complex. This would also take a large toll on the funds provided to the NHS with the costs of for the setup of IT and communications approximating to £45 million. An additional £5 million per year is needed to refresh public messages and an estimated £10 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The primary source being used is On the Customs of Persians by Herodotus which is written from his view point on the Persians in comparison to the Greeks customs and beliefs. This paper will discuss the similarities and differences between the two with evidence found in the primary source to back it up with quotes and explanations to why it s important. The Greeks and Persians while sharing some similarities they are outweighed by the two s differences such as; their image in god, sacrificing rituals, customs, and death rituals. The first difference we see between the two and could also be the biggest, is the Persians not having a set image of god since the Greeks see their gods as in the same nature as man. We can infer this to Persians by this quote: They have no images of god, no temples nor alters, and consider them a sign of folly. • 14. Evidence And Circumstantial Evidence The collection of evidence, whether it be direct, circumstantial, physical, or testimonial, is very important to a case. Why? Because that evidence is what the prosecution hopes will end with a conviction. However, sometimes things happen and evidence gets contaminated. Now, the biggest thing to determine is whether the contamination happened on accident or if someone tampered with it on purpose. There are four different types of evidence, direct, circumstantial, physical, and testimonial. Direct evidence is evidence that is in the form of a testimony that someone has seen, heard, or physically touched (Direct evidence, 2008). So that, if believed, proves a fact without inference or presumptions (Direct evidence, 2008). • 18. Annotated Bibliography On Personalized Medicine Personalized medicine can lead to the development of great discoveries that could revolutionize the world. The research of personalized medicine is new and costly but that is not the only setback this new science must face. Personalized medicine has also presented issues of race and gender that cannot be silenced until further research is conducted. It is clear that personalized medicine could provide great benefits for fighting illness, but it can lead to issues of underrepresentation of race and concerns of gender in terms of drug safety and with the little that is known right now the cost outweigh the benefits. The need for new and more effective treatment continues to increase and personalized medicine appears to be the answer to our prayers. With further research personalized medicine could revolutionize pharmaceuticals and to go out on a limb even find a cure for aids and other cancers. But it is too early to have high expectations for a science that has not been deeply explored. It seems that the fantasy of finding a perfect match treatment for each individual has raised support from many institutions including the White House and the FDA. There have been some recent personalized medicine treatments approved by the FDA and this has lead President Obama to bring forward the Precision Medicine Initiative (U.S. Food and Drug Administration), which would give millions in monetary support for research to be conducted on personalized medicine. Gladwell describes the movement of sit ins across the south as a fever . Orr found himself caught up in the contagion, he endured the beatings and the injustice the same as everyone else but his motives were not set for civil rights, he realized this when he was taken and held captive, Even as I sank into depression and brooded in the stifling heat of that jail barn, I was learning that I wanted to live, (Orr, 223). The company works for 20 days a month. So, the output per day = 16000 / 20 = 800 shirts. In, 8 hours a day, the company can produce 60 * 8 * (1/0.5) = 960 shirts, which is the current production capacity. But it needs to produce only 800 shirts. So, the capacity utilization = (800 / 960) * 100 = 83.33% The actual labor utilized = Number of shirts produced * Direct labor content = 800 * 25.76 = 20608 minutes The available labor for utilization = Total number of workers * Hours per day * ... • 22. Slavery Tribulation In American History Throughout World History, many atrocious and abominable things have happened to human beings throughout time. Babies have been slaughtered in wars, people have been killed by severe natural disasters, and people have even been eaten by cannibals. But nothing seems to come close in comparison to the Transatlantic Slave Trade and what those people had to toil through. The slaves of this horrific time in American History, from the 1400s to the 1860s, went through possibly the worst tribulation in human history. Slave traders went beyond what was necessary to keep slaves. Although at some points the slaves fought back and rebelled, the treatment of the slaves on ships broke them down psychologically and physically. Robert Walsh reports that The height sometimes between decks was only eighteen inches, so [they] could not turn round or even on their sides [because] the elevation [was] less than the breadth of their shoulders; and here they are usually chained to the decks by the neck and legs. This made the conditions so bad that many of the enslaved people would try to kill each other by strangulation or stabbing nails into each other s heads in order to make more space for themselves . This web of interdependency is primarily made possible by trade, and in the twenty first century, a large and significant portion of trade is conducted on a global scale. Furthermore, while the majority of people agree that free trade can benefit both parties in terms of economic development and an increase in overall production, many critics have voiced their fears of the negative consequences that may result from a global trade environment with few barriers or limits. Jim Crow laws kept white and African American people separate in public, the Ku Klux, Klan forced African Americans to fear for their lives every minute of every day, and absolutely nothing was happening to change these injustices. African Americans participated in thousands of nonviolent boycotts, freedom marches, and protests and nothing was ever changed until the morning of September 15, 1963. On that morning, a bomb, made of dynamite, forever changed the lives of the citizens attending the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Four young black girls died in the bombing, inspiring poet Dudley Randall to write his powerful poem, Ballad of Birmingham. Through his poetry, Randall influenced change in the Civil Rights movement, and by owning the largest printing press of the 1960s, played a huge role in the Black Arts Movement. The Problem Borders are the worst invention ever made by politicians, Jean Claude Juncker, the European Commission president stated this while reflecting on globalization s failed promise of borderless nations, and the creation of borders more rigid than ever (2016). Across the world, wall building has become the common political strategy used by nations who deem physical barriers as the only way to deal with difficult neighboring nations. The increasing fortification of borders as not just a political line, but as an established physical barrier, responds to the security and migration issues at a global level. Border walls are used for varying purposes, walls can separate opposing forces; often, they are used to make territorial claims; however the more problematic use, is the keep out unwanted groups. When the Berlin Wall fell nearly three decades ago, there were 16 border walls in the world; today the number is ever growing with over 70 completed border walls globally (Brunet Jailly, 2016). Experts agree that walls do not address the root problems of security and migration, supported by the fact that global refugee applications and terrorist attacks have increased tremendously even though countries have walled themselves off; which leaves unanswered questions as to the real reason walls are still being built. In Bad Dreams, Evil Demons, and the Experience Machine: Philosophy and the Matrix , Christopher Grau explains Rene Descartes argument in Meditation. What one may interpret as reality may not be more than a figment of one s imagination. One argument that Grau points out in Descartes essay is how one knows that what one think is an everyday experience awake is not all a part of a hallucination. He uses the example of dreams to draw a conclusion about is claim based on experiences one would experience with dreaming. He asserts that there are times when one wake up from a dream that seems to be vivid and realistic however soon finds that it was not. This reinforces that idea one cannot trust what one is experiencing to actually be real. What proof can one bring that one awake other than oneself just knowing . This is the point Descartes wan to call to attention. Although Descartes argument seems plausible decades ago, now there are ways to weaken is argument. In the science of psychology which focuses on the brain one can find that there are ways of knowing one is dreaming or sleep. Descartes even contradicts himself when he asserts that even if all of our sensory experience is but a dream, we can still conclude that we have some knowledge of the nature of reality . I believe that Descartes knows that he is not dreaming in a constant state of dream but that there is a sense of reality that one experiences. What one experiences are senses such as smell and touch that one cannot perform in a dream world. Being able to touch and have the sensation of touching an item such as a table in a dream does not happen. The sensation of pain is also an indicator of a reality that does not exist in the reaffirms that one is not in reality. There is physical evidence that proves that people have control over their dreams; it s called lucid dreaming. Having a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this essay, we are given the task to explain what Aristotle means by choice, which is in turn show that choice is not wishes, opinion, nor desire. Rather, Aristotle believes choice involves desire. So, I will explain concisely why correct choice is not a tendency to opine the correct thing to do rather correct choice is an intimate coordination between our rational and desiring faculties. Thus, controlling and coordinating what we desire and why we desire something. Ultimately, leading the agent to what the right thing they should do, full stop, regardless of numerous alternatives. We will focus on what Aristotle means by choice, as presented in the Nicomachean Ethics. First, we will understand what choice is not to Aristotle. For Aristotle, choice is not a wish because wishes can be related to impossibilities, such as immortality, which are things that we cannot do. Rather, what we wish for is the goal or the end that we are trying to achieve and choices are the means that will get us to the end. Next, Aristotle believes that choice is not equivalent to opinion in the sense of arriving at a belief about what to do. Aristotle says, it cannot be opinion; for opinion is thought to be related to all kinds of things, no less to eternal things and impossible things than to things in our own power; and it is distinguished by its falsity or truth, not by its badness or ...
