Federal Communications Commission vs. Fox Television...
In the case of the Federal Communications Commission vs. Fox Television Stations Inc., I will discuss
the background and the role of the FCC in the United States, the history of Fox Television Stations
Inc. and analyze the arguments of both sides. Based on those arguments I will answer the question did
the Supreme Court get it right on the decision of this case. The Federal Communications Commission
(FCC) was created when Congress passed the Communications Act in 1934 which abolished the
Federal Radio Commission and transferred jurisdiction of radio licensing to the Federal
Communications Commission. This also included the telecommunications jurisdiction which was
previously handled by the Interstate Commerce Commission. The ... Show more content on

After the Metromedia deal was made Murdoch purchased Davis s shares and News Corporation
assumed complete control of 20th Century Fox. Initially Fox Television Station was a semi
autonomous unit in which News Corporation owned over 99 percent of the equity, but only 24 percent
of the voting power. The balance was held personally by Murdoch. During this particular era the
Federal Communications Commission regulations stated it prohibited foreign interests or non
American citizens from controlling more than 25 percent of an FCC licensed broadcast station.
Though News Corporation was still based in Australia Murdoch became a naturalized U.S. citizen in
1985 and the transfer of majority voting to Murdoch was now sufficient
(http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Television_Stations). As of today, Rupert Murdoch is still the
chairman and controlling shareholder of News Corporation and believes that all forms of media
should not be free during this era of global media empires (http://topics.nytimes.com). The main
concern of this case was the adequacy of the Federal Communications Commission s explanation of
its decision that it sometimes forbids broadcasting of indecent expletives even when the offensive
words are not repeated and if the FCC has the power to punish the station for the vulgarity (FCC v.
Fox, 2009, p. 1). The broadcasting stationed believed this was violating the

Principles Of Code Of Criminal Procedure 1973
Criminal Procedure Code, 1973
The Code of Criminal Procedure,1973(CrPC) is the main criminal procedural Law of the country. It
regulates the procedure of investigation of crimes, collection of evidence, prosecution of offences,
conduct of trials as well as award of punishment of offenders convicted of an offence. The Code of
Criminal Procedure extended some special protection to children in a proceeding. During the course of
investigation the investigating officer may call any person to police station or any other place, who
may be acquainted with the facts. But a child under 15 years of age shall not be required to attend at
any place other than the place in which he or she resides .
Order for maintenance of wives, children and parents
If any person having sufficient means neglects or refuses to maintain his legitimate or illegitimate
minor child, whether married or not, unable to maintain itself, or his legitimate or illegitimate child
(not being a married daughter) who has attained majority, where such child is, by reason of any
physical or mental abnormality or injury unable to maintain itself, a Magistrate of the first class may,
upon proof of such neglect or refusal, order such person to make a monthly allowance for the

Sulfate Crystalss Lab
In the experiment we concluded that room temperature had the longest duration and that the
hypothesis that the hot temperature water would last longer was terribly wrong. The hot temperature
water had the shortest time, and in all three trials it did not last longer that 3 and a half minutes. The
room temperature water had an average time of 13 minutes and 43 seconds and the cold temperature
water had an average temperature 13 minutes and 44 seconds. The cold temperature water had one
second longer duration than the room temperature this is because in the 3rd trial the cold temperature
water lasted over 15 minutes. Since there is no way to determine exactly when the light stops glowing
the times can vary and this affected the averages. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The copper sulfate crystals could have been different sizes, even though we tried to keep them
relatively the same size during the experiment. Another thing that could have gone wrong with the
experiment is that there was inconsistent stirring during the trials with different temperature water,
which could have affected the duration of the luminols light. The biggest concern that happened with
the experiment was that the lights duration is guessed by the scientists doing the experiment, there is
no way to know that the solution is done glowing scientifically.
If the experiment was to be redone, it would be best if a few parts were changed. instead of doing
individual crystals you could do scoops of crystals, so that the size of the crystal wouldn t affect the
experiment and it would be a constant amount throughout the experiment and the different trails.
Another thing that could be altered would be that there could somehow be a consistent way to know
for sure when the luminol s light went out.
In a variation of the project you could try different amounts of copper sulfate crystals, probate
mixture, or luminol mixture on the same amount of water. Also you can change the amount of water
and use the same amount of copper sulfate crystals, probate mixture, or luminol mixture. To see the
effect on the duration of the luminols light you can try stirring for different amounts of time or at

Resources And Pattern Essay
Pattern Resources: The pattern resources give information about patterns. These resources are in
various forms such as documents, research papers, books, web pages etc. Since the resources are at
various locations and not in any standard or uniform format, it is very difficult for practitioners to
locate and apply patterns.
Semantic Relations: Patterns are related to other patterns. For example, some patterns may solve the
same security goal or some patterns may be used at a specific lifecycle stage in software development.
Classification methods have attempted to identify properties or attributes by which patterns can be
tagged and classified. These classifiers form the semantic relations between patterns.
Relationship annotation: The semantic content of patterns is modeled as a binary relation between a
pattern and a set of attributes. The relationship annotation gives a matrix of pattern attribute relations.
It forms the formal context for FCA and the input data for hierarchical clustering.
FCA Engine: The FCA engine extracts concepts from the formal context and builds the concept
lattice. Incremental FCA will ensure that changes to the formal context will be incorporated.
Clustering: Hierarchical clustering groups patterns into a set of clusters which are in the form of a
hierarchy.
Knowledge representation: The pattern, attribute, concept and cluster knowledge is represented in the
XML format so that it can be easily stored and shared

Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner
Ordinarily, pieces of literature show scenes of violence. These events are not just placed haphazardly;
often times, these predicaments are intricately set to build the meaning of the work. Wighout this kind
of violence, some points in the novel would be hard to comprehend. In Khaled Hoseini s The Kite
Runner, multiple cases of compulsion are demonstrated. Khaled Hosseini uses symbolism and sense
of mood during these situations contribute to the understanding of his literary work. Chapter seven of
the novel opens somewhat normal, with two young boys, Amir and Hassan, preparing for the annual
kite running tournament. When the boys win the contest, an air of jubilance and carelessness comes
over Amir and Hassan. Hosseini describes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, throughout his whole life, Amir feels the need to be repented for his past mistakes. When
Amir gets the notorious call from Rahim Khan and asked upon his arrival to save Sohrab, Amir first
denies but then accepts the fact that this may be his only chance to redeem himself. Amir finally finds
the place where Sohrab is and is coincidentally confronted by Assef. The fight scene here is brutal,
and full of bloodshed. However, rather than feeling pain, Amir feels at peace , healed , and satisfied.
Overall, the scene is relieving and peaceful, at least for Amir. At the time, Amir s pain makes him feel
happy by suffering. Though Assef brings a mood of obscurity, Amir s recent catharsis brings about one
of relief. Throughout the whole fight, Amir knows that he really isn t going to win; but, winning was
not the goal. When Amir decides not to rin from Assef, he welcomed the pain rather than running
away from it as he did early on in the novel. Amir feels as though this is the punishment that he
deserved because of his unfaithfulness to Hassan. This is the motive behind Amir s laughter during the
fight. Upon going to the hospital after the fight, the doctor tells Amir that he has a scar splitting his
upper lip, which ends up being similar to Hassan s. When Amir s scar surfaces, it shows the equality
between Amir and Hassan. His whole life, Hassan was seen of a lower status because his family

Catcher in the Rye Theme Essay
Catcher in the Rye written by J.D. Salinger, is a novel in which the author creates much irony in the
way he presents the loss of innocence or the fall from innocence in his main character, Holden
Caulfield. While Holden clearly believes in protecting the innocence of children in society, he himself
cannot seem to hang onto his own innocence. Throughout the novel Holden shows his love and
protection for childhood innocence, the irony that he in fact himself may be losing his own childhood
innocence mainly due to the responsibilities which he has taken on, and also shows that he may be
more innocent than the reader first thinks as his simplified view of a complex world is much like an
innocent child would see. In this novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

know for sure I believe he wasnt as pessimistic before his brother died. Holden did not understand
why innocent people like Allie had to die and let conceited people like Stradlater live. No one was
there to catch Allie and he feels that no one is there to catch him either.

Analysis Of Ezra Pound s
Ezra Pound s (1885 1972) Homage to Sextus Propertius has stirred controversies after its first
publication in Harriet Monroe s Poetry magazine in March 1919. The poem is consisted of twelve
sections and it was based on Propertius, a great Latin elegiac poet who lived during the first century.
Pound s poem provides a new interpretation of Propertius that differs from his predecessors. Pound
finds a voice to critique the corrupted politics of his time. The poem, However, has enraged the
Classicists for they viewed it as an utter mistranslation of Propertius. Such differing views over the
poem have been, for quite long, the source of contention in the academic circles. This paper, therefore,
discusses the views of the Classicists and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The perception of the poem continued raveling to other classicists. L.P. Wilkinson, a Cambridge
classicist, harshly criticized the poem and he concluded that Homage to Sextus Propertius purged of
the perversities of Ezra Pound (viii). Similarly, Professor Gilbert Highet wrote in Horizon magazine
that Homage was an insult both to poetry and to scholarship, and to common sense (viii). Highet
accused Pound of bad taste and a disgusting misinterpretation of Propertius. Later, Robert Graves, a
classical translator, attacked Pound s inaccuracies in the poem. In the Times Literary Supplement, he
published a comical short play called Dr. Syntax and Mr. Pound mocking Pound s ignorance of Latin
and the radical distortion he made and his claim of producing a free verse translation of the poem. He
concluded that Pound has no respect for Propertius and that he should learn the moral principles in
translation, a reference to his article published in 1965. And finally, Robert Nicholas, a Gregorian
poet, who echoed Hale s review over Pound s mistranslation of Propertius. In Pound s essay, Date
Line, he identifies five different modes of literary criticism and one of them is criticism by translation
(Literary Essays 74). This type

The Importance Of Friendship In My Life
When I was younger, I used to think that all people were good and every friendship that lasted longer
than three months was forever. Now, I know that people will not always be what they seem, I might
get hurt from friendships, and I have to learn to let go sometimes. I believe in standing up for yourself
and your thoughts, even when it s the harder thing to do. I stand for not letting a toxic relationship
define you. This is how I believe in self worth. When I started my freshman year, I walked in with
some of the closest friends I d ever had. The four of us, my best gal pal, Anna, her boyfriend, Clay,
and my best guy friend, Aaron. We did everything together, but it was Aaron and I that grew to be best
friends over that year. When it comes to friendships I think I can become attached really easily. I am
always the first person to say I love you . It s just in my nature to be attached to people because I don t
want to change. We were constantly together, and they were the closest friendships and relationships
that I might ever have. Nothing could come between us, until something did. By Christmas Eve I was
seeing a boy, and on New Year s finally had my first kiss. They were happy for me, but as the month
of January rolled by I noticed a change in them. It was hard for them to trust my new hockey playing
boyfriend. Aaron was scared he would hit me or hurt me because my boyfriend got very jealous, very
easily, and it was mostly about my relationship with Aaron.

Essay on An Annotation of Wallace Stevens Of Modern Poetry
An Annotation of Wallace Stevens Of Modern Poetry
In Of Modern Poetry, Stevens describes the purpose of modern poetry given what the audience knows
and values. Modern poetry must be different from traditional poetry, because people of his time
perceive themselves and their world differently than the people of earlier times. Stevens suggests that
war, like other changes, have affected what people believe. Poetry must reflect to its audience what
they want to hear. It must show them that the order, meaning and value they need is real, in so much as
their minds both need it and can create it.

Stevens first points out how modern poetry differs from traditional poetry. The implication is that
people are now questioning some fundamental aspects of intellectual constructs that used to be
considered necessary and true. In particular Stevens questions tradition of reading the book of nature,
of starting with religious presumptions and assuming nature communicates these ideas to humans.
Other traditions had changed as well thoughts about the social roles of men and women and social
propriety; thoughts about religious values and scientific discovery; nature and purpose of
communication resulting from new inventions. These changes sometimes reflected, sometimes caused
the development of new values. The rest of the poem records the change that occurs after traditional
assumptions are uprooted.
The past was a souvenir because once people realized that certain traditions could be changed, they
had no reason to believe those traditions had to be the standard. Like a souvenir, the scene and the
script became only a reminder of where people had been, it has no practical use for the present. Once
people conceived of a new stage, a new script, a new way of thinking, it had to be experimented with.
They valued experimentation, because they did not have a required standard. They valued finding

Seventh Circle In Dante s Inferno
Drew Anderson
ELA 12
Dante
In The Inferno by Dante Alighieri, Dante is led down through hell by the ancient poet Virgil. As he
descends through hell he progressively sees people who committed worse and worse crimes. Because
of this we are able to see into the mind of Dante; and therefore, understand his thoughts on the
volatility of the crimes committed. Personally I believe because of Dante being screwed in his own
life plus the many backward thoughts of the time; Dante is much too harsh on humanity and he sends
far too many people to hell.
Dante s first circle is called Limbo. Limbo is just on the cusp of hell. People in Dante s limbo are not
tortured and crying out they are just sighing because they lack hope of a better life. No tortured
wailing rose to greet us here but sounds of sighing rose from every side. (canto IV) Limbo holds all
people who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The seventh circle is for those who were violent. This includes people where violent against
themselves because those violent against themselves denied their human form they are shown as trees
in The Inferno, Puzzled I broke off a thorn: and the great trunk of it cried out. (canto 13 pg. 120) The
eighth circle is for people who claimed to be prophets but weren t, people who stole, people who lie,
and people who seduced others. The final circle of hell is for four men, Satan who betrayed god, Judas
who betrayed Christ, and for those who betrayed Caesar.
Dante ranks sins very differently than I would as well. Personally I believe he is much too harsh. I
believe that limbo, heresy, and a portion of the lustful should not even be on the list. Limbo should be
removed because these people did not even have a chance to make it to heaven. Heresy should be
removed because most protestants were indoctrinated into their religion and really never had a choice
in what religion they were. People who were lustful but did not commit adultery should not be sent to

Management Performance Evaluation Of Employees
Managers s play a huge role in performance evaluation of employees. There are several factors that
contribute to how managers assess performance evaluation, these components are orientation, training,
development, feedback, and annual performance appraisals (). Human Resource managers are
important to the performance appraisal process, because they make sure that the appraisal is fair,
detailed, and the managers are handling the appraisals professionally(). In order to properly ensure
that the performance appraisals are conducted in a fairly, HR managers need to make sure that the
appraisals are non discriminatory. As an Human Resource manager it is important that the managers

Performance evaluations can also aid in helping an organization reach their future goals. They allow
managers and employee to sit down and think strategically on how the organization can reach their
goals in the upcoming year. Not only does it give an opportunity to achieve the organization s goals,
but it also can encourage employees to set their own standards and goals on themselves for the next
work year. Using performance appraisal can ultimately assist organizations on reaching their strategic
goals and giving them an internal advantage against competition. If performance appraisals are not
done properly, this could lead to many negative consequences for an organization. The first thing to
recognize when doing performance appraisal it takes a long period of time to properly conduct
performance evaluations. It can become extremely stressful and overwhelming to managers, because
they have to evaluate all of their employees. This can lead to managers having a negative attitude
towards performance reviews. Another issue with performance appraisals is if they are mishandled
during the process. If a manager is poorly trained and is not knowledgeable in how to properly carry
out these appraisals, a bad review could lead to an extremely negative and hostile work environment
for the manager and employees. This could also lead to possible legal issues for the organization if
they are not careful about the procedure in which they use

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as Evil Murderers in William Shakespeare s Play
At the start of this play Macbeth is mentioned by witches which doesn t give him credibility with the

Duncan. Almost as soon as the play starts, you hear of Macbeth s bravery; Brave Macbeth well he
deserves that name...Like Valour s minion. But soon after he has his meeting with the witches he is

Macbeth even has his best friend murdered, but, uncharacteristically baulks at doing the deed himself
and hires others to complete his dirty work for him, which also involves murdering a 10 year old boy,
Banquo s son. However, the news of the escape of Fleance shakes Macbeth to the core.
Later on in the play, Macbeth has Macduff s entire family murdered out of spite for Macduff, which
seems very brutal even by Macbeth s impressive standards.
One thing I did notice to be consistent throughout the play was the deterioration of both Macbeth s
and Lady Macbeth s mental condition. This all starts about the time of the murder of Duncan, when
Macbeth sees a mysterious dagger leading him towards Duncan s chamber, and becomes even more
apparent after the murder of Banquo, when Macbeth sees an apparition of Banquo, covered in blood.
This could be his conscience. Lady Macbeth also begins to hallucinate and picture her hands covered
in blood whilst she still sleeps. There is a lot of such bloody and violent imagery throughout the play.
She eventually dies, although Shakespeare omits to mention how, and we are left to speculate.
Macbeth becomes increasingly wild and unpredictable and by the end of the play all but the most
faithful to his cause, those too stupid to see its doom, and those too afraid to turn traitor against it have
abandoned Macbeth in

15th Amendment And The 19th Amendment
Introduction:
Before the United States Constitution was implemented in 1788, there was a certain principle in
society where only men of a Caucasian race had the right to vote in elections. Many people including
women and those of different races and colors protested, marched, and fought get the right to vote.
Since the country s leaders at the time were dissatisfied with the structure of the society and
government they decided to make the US Constitution. With the making of the Constitution it created
amendments to better the rights of people and create a better society. Since women and people of
different colors and races wanted the right to vote, the constitution created the 15th and 19th
amendment. According to the legal form institute website last updated on November 2nd of 2009, it

Film Noir In Alfred Hitchcock s Film Vertigo
Here I was born, and there I died. It was only a moment for you; you took no notice, says Madeleine,
played by Kim Novak, as she foreshadows the mysterious events which take place in Vertigo. Directed
by Alfred Hitchcock, Vertigo qualifies as a film noir because it contains a femme fatale, a pessimistic
romance, and is filmed by an immigrant director. Many film noirs contain a femme fatale, and Vertigo
is no different. Madeleine and Judy, both played by Kim Novak, are definitely femme fatales. A
femme fatale is a mysterious, two faced, deceitful, manipulative, and overall beautiful woman. Both
characters portray that definition perfectly. For example, they are literally two faced, being that
Madeleine and Judy are played by the same actress. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alfred Hitchcock, the great master of suspense, came from England. He travelled to the United States
with his family to create better and greater films that could be even more successful than they were in
England. Hitchcock loved a suspenseful and dark film, which caused him to create some of the
greatest films of all time such as Psycho, The Birds, and North By Northwest. His film Vertigo
displays all of these aspects, causing the film to be a perfect example of the Hitchcockian style. This
style came from when Hitchcock was a child in England, where his parents would punish him harshly
whenever he was behaving badly. Not only that, but at his British Catholic school, he would be

Analysis Of The Documentary Blackfish Essay
Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite in the documentary, Blackfish (2013), argues that captivity triggers
aggression in killer whales. Cowperthwaite supports her argument by demonstrating shocking footage
and emotional interviews to present a convincing case against keeping these animals in captivity and
for human entertainment. The author s purpose is to show the problems that are caused by captivity in
order to aware the audience that keeping killer whales in captivity affects their behavior mentally and
physically. The author writes in resentful tone to Sea World, the people who visited Sea World, and
those who were present during the killer whale incident. Gabriela Cowperthwaite argues that keeping
killer whales in captivity at SeaWorld affects their mentality due to how they are being treated. She
makes this argument by applying pathos, ethos, and logos. In beginning of the film, the appeal to
pathos affects the audience as we listen to what these former trainers have to say about how they
became interested in the job and what made them realize that a trainer was what they wanted to be. As

Indian Camp and Soldiers Home Young Women as Objects Essay
Indian Camp and Soldiers Home Young Women as Objects
In Ernest Hemingway s short stories Indian Camp and Soldier s Home, young women are treated as
objects whose purpose is either reproduction or pleasure. They do not and cannot participate to a
significant degree in the masculine sphere of experience, and when they have served their purpose,
they are set aside. They do not have a voice in the narrative, and they represent complications in life
that must be overcome in one way or another. While this portrayal of young women is hardly unique
to Hemingway, the author uses it as a device to probe the male psyche more deeply.

Nick to comprehend that his father is capable of miscalculating greatly (Flora 28), and thus he
continues to treat the young woman who gave birth as an object, diminishing his son s concerns with
phrases like very exceptional and hardly ever. In the end, the combination of the sunrise and the fish in

The Rock Band Aerosmith s Success Story Essay
Etched deep in the spirit of every person are the memories of life altering mistakes. For most people,
these mistakes devastate their lives permanently, but for a select group, the impact is breathtaking. The
idea that one huge mistake could lead to mind boggling success is the type of story one only reads
about. World renowned rock band Aerosmith s success story is undeniably one of the greatest of all
time, but it didn t come without massive failure. Steven Tyler, the lead singer of rock and roll hall of
fame band Aerosmith, recorded his first solo song, Love Lives , divulging his jaded emotions of losing
his band, wife, and essentially, soul during the early stages of his now historic career. Although Tyler s
song appears to be just another cliche love song, the ballad capitalizes on parallelism, nostalgia
imagery and diction, and ambiguity to expose the tremendous loss he suffered as a result of his career
crippling drug addiction and the overwhelming success that emerged from the ashes of his past.
Steven Tyler creates rhythm and flow in lyrics by utilizing parallelism between phrases and verses in
his song. The main notion of a musical piece is to be memorable and melodic.
Tyler constructs this melodic pattern by comparing and contrasting concepts in similarly structured
phrases. These slightly contrasting ideas are presented similarly to force movement into the rhythm, I
walk away, you stay behind (Tyler). The same sentence structure is used on the initial and

In the accounting world, one s qualifications, expertise, and reputations are extremely important
aspects and should all be taken into consideration when choosing a firm.
Larger (often National or international) CPA firms have acquired many smaller firms. Why might a
large organization consider purchasing an accounting firm such as Abernethy and Chapman? Why
might Abernethy and Chapman agree to be acquired? Are such mergers good for the auditing
profession, generally speaking?
Abernethy and Chapman are desirable because they have a steady clientele and continue to generate
revenues leaving them with a net income that is favorable. Often companies will merge with another
company in an effort to avoid bankruptcy, consolidate services, or expand. Over the years, we ve seen
many big name firms merge with others. Acquisitions and mergers are becoming a trend due to the
number of partner retirements and the lack of succession plans. (Sinkin and Putney, 2013) Firms such
as Abernethy and Chapman might agree to an acquisition because it is often the most cost effective
way for them to increase cash flow and continue to be successful. Mergers can either be a success or a
failure. When you merge organizations, you are also merging personalities which can often lead to
conflict; however, merging the different levels of expertise could be beneficial to a firm. Ultimately, I

with Hogwarts students. Fleur Delacour is a French Beauxbatons student who is gorgeous, and very
aware of it. She is always complaining about Hogwarts and thinks the world revolves around her, and
only her. Professor Alastor Moody was an auror in his time, and since he has caught so many dark
wizards, he is very paranoid, leading many people to believe he is insane. However, he is chosen to
become the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, and he knows what he is talking about. These
are all true statements about these three characters. Or are they? Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,
by JK Rowling, explores the concept of first impressions, revealing that even The Chosen One holds
opinions on people that are completely incorrect.
Ludo Bagman is supposedly an amazing person who wants to see the underdog win, but Fred and
George Weasley quickly learn that he is not the perfect man he seems to be. When Ludo comes to
Hogwarts to judge the Triwizard Tournament, the students cheer very loudly when his name is
announced, and he happily waves back. Everyone seems to adore him, yet in the background, Fred
and George know the truth about the deceitful man. You remember that bet we

Walter Rodney Ctiticism
Rodney is a neo Marxist and non imperialist writer, meaning he views oppression of Africans rooted
in the hands of the colonial capitalist activities in Africa and the suffering of Africans premised in the
imperialistic activities of Europeans in Africa. His critical work helps in the debate on the definition of
African literature, for he brings out the historical connection that makes it possible to analyse African
literature dealing with the pre colonial and post colonial phases of African history. He reveals political,
economic and social circumstances that informed the sensibility of most African writers.

Rodney observes that already Africa had developed to a stage whereby mining was conducted. Her
tools had developed from stone to iron tools without European intervention. Africa s technology was
coming up because already there were works of the blacksmith that were discovered dating before the
Africans came into contact with Europeans. He argues that Europeans hindered African development
with their exploitative activities. Colonialism induced the African worker to abandon the process of
extracting iron for his development for Europeans.
Africa s socio economic structure system was laid backwards by coming of Europeans. Men and
women s gender roles, hunting and gathering were destroyed. Traditionally men did heavy labour of
felling trees, clearing trees and building houses. When they were required to leave their farms to seek
employment, women remained behind burdened with every task necessary for survival of themselves,
even children and even men as food stuffs were concerned. This idea inspired the colonial and
feminist writers like Barbra Makhalisa in her novel uMendo.
Rodney finds in colonialism double oppression of women in the African society. Women were
oppressed by the African traditional customs and laws. Colonialism has intensified the oppression of
women, as men entered the money sector easily and greater numbers than women. Women s work
became greatly inferior to that of men within the new value system

of a dark gloomy and new environment in the reader s head. It fits not only with the imagery piece but

What Does Luck Or Opportunity Mean
Luck or Opportunity, what does this term really mean? It s quite a tough phrase to define, so i ll take
time to explain. Luck or Opportunity, can have various meanings to different people, but I think it
means exactly as it says. The phrase is basically describing one s gifts from life (or blessings as some
may say), and their success. It s dealing with the common good of people and things happening
around us. The meaning of the phrase is extremely universal to some but for me it s a good thing.
Luck or Opportunity? Would you really use this phrase in relations to something bad, or horrible?

Why Did England Grow During The Industrial Revolution
By late 1700s and early 1800s, United Kingdom was on the brink of Industrial Revolution. Industrial
evolution was basically a period of time where a country had mass productions and new inventions in
technology. Setting aside the time when it started, why did the Industrial Revolution start in Great
Britain? What advantages did England have to initiate the Industrial Revolution? The Industrial
Revolution initiated in United Kingdom because of its surfeit amounts of natural resources, stable
government and economy and developments in new machinery. Britain was the first country to
industrialize as a result of its abundance in natural resources. Britain got its surfeit amount of
resources from its colonies. Around early 1800s, Britain was the sovereign nation in the world,
conquering relatively half of the world. This gave Britain an enormous economic advantage. The

Cinematic Techniques In The Dressmaker
The Dressmaker has many similar elements and features to spaghetti westerns. How has the director
used this style to engage a modern audience? By Tallulah Stacey Bateman The Dressmaker is a movie
based on the book written by Rosalie Ham. It tells the story of a woman named Tilly determined to
figure out the mysteries of her past. The classic spaghetti westerns have many things in common with
The Dressmaker . Some similar cinematic techniques include camera angles and shots, setting,
costuming and themes. These techniques were captured by the director to engage the modern

Some themes that are included are justice and love. In Lone Ranger (Directed by Stuart Heisler), it is
seen that a hero dubbed the Lone Ranger, a western version of Robin Hood, is depicted as a saviour of
the innocent. When he is enlisted to unknowingly help the bad guys Lone Ranger decides to help the
Indian Tribal people recover their lands. In The Dressmaker , Tilly seeks a personal injustice that
happened to herself when she was blamed for the murder of her half brother, Stewart, when in truth he
killed himself by mistake. Here we can see that both themes of injustice are battled by each of the
protagonist s own moral code and abilities. Having a faulted yet lovable protagonist can make the
modern audience want to support them in their adventures and trials, and also able to relate to the
character s situations. Love is another key theme in spaghetti westerns with the classic idea of damsels
in distress . Having this stereotype makes the audience believe that the hero and their damsel are
meant to be. When Teddy dies, it gives Tilly the courage to be fearless towards the curses she

Perceiving Dogs Equal Vs. Property
Perceiving Dogs Equal vs. Property In general, dogs are associated with loyalty, companionship, and
aid. In Pam Houston s A Blizzard Under Blue Sky, the narrator attempts to treat her depression
through experiencing the adventure of spending a night outside in the cold weather of Utah. Then, the
narrator becomes successful in her adventure with the support and assistance of her two dogs, Hailey
and Jackson. On the contrary, in Jack London s To Build a Fire, a man is traveling along the Yukon
Trail, on his way to his group of friends where he encounters a dog who grows to have a poor
relationship with the man but remains with him until his death. The similarities and differences
between the two relationships make a comment on interactions between humans and animals. The
comparison of these two short stories demonstrates how dogs are only beneficial to humans when they
are deemed an equal and a counterpart, however not as valuable when disrespected through regard as
one s property. The narrator of A Blizzard Under Blue Sky exemplifies the components of a
relationship between a dog and an individual that produces mutual benefit. The essential piece is
equality, which is expressed in both the actions the narrator takes toward the dogs as well as the
dialogue between the three characters: Jackson, Hailey, and the narrator. The existence of dialogue
between them alone reveals equality because dialogue in general is exclusive between two human
characters but in this

Environmental Justice and Toxic Racism
Environmental Justice and Toxic Racism
Encouraged by diverse foundations from across the globe, The Environmental Justice movement has
become one of the most important topics in the media. Europeans have used Marxist philosophy on
class laddering, while non Western countries required its encouragement in the criticism of
colonialism. In the United States, The Civil Rights Movement was its forerunner. The notion of
Environmental Justice , nevertheless, has its genesis in the resistance of black culture and lower
income communities in opposition to uneven ecological trouble in the United States during the last
few years of the 1970s and the early 1980s. In the framework of racial improvement and public

One of the first influences on the deliberation on Environmental Justice was The Civil Rights
Movement in the United States of America. Leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr. fought hard to ensure
that social transformation and power be established for African Americans, especially those in the
southern states as well as those in the northern inner city parts. Activists like King altered the
philosophy on Environmental Justice arguing that there was a lopsided effect that proved that
environmental hazards were not accidental. What environmentalists advocated instead was that
environmental dangers resulted from racial segregation that placed power plants, nuclear plants, and
other potential ecological hazards in areas with a high concentration of minority and low income
groups. Several activists defined this as environmental racism. The earliest reference to environmental
racism originated in Warren County, North Carolina, in 1982. A mainly African American
neighborhood rallied to protest the construction of a noxious waste landfill. The community was well
backed with the support of the United Church of Christ. The remonstration resulted in well over five
hundred arrests for civil disobedience. Its impact caused other explorations in southern communities

Analysis Of Allen Ginsberg s Howl
Hold back the edges of your gowns, Ladies, we are going through hell, (Sullivan 1) as William Carlos
Williams put it, in introducing the first edition of Allen Ginsberg s Howl. Most famously known for
Howl, Ginsberg was recognized for his obscene and exaggerated writing style. With Edgar Allen Poe
being a form of influence and admiration in Ginsberg s eyes, it s understandable to see where he gets
his inspiration. Allen Ginsberg s work of literature is important because it challenges mainstream
societal values and gives a voice to those who struggle with repression by a patriarchal agenda. Howl,
Allen Ginsberg s best known poem was his most popular and most controversial work of literature.
This poem is separated into three different parts. The title Howl is in reference to protest and cry for
all exploitation and repression. The poet asks the reader to cry against capitalism (Howl 7 8). Ginsberg
was a headstrong social and political activist during his time. He related to the free spirited hippie
generation and the make love, not war movement. He also revolted against mainstream American
culture as a way to challenge other civilian s mindsets. Calling Howl a story isn t accurate, its more
Ginsberg describing his environment and his subjects on paper. The first line begins with, I saw the
best minds of my generation destroyed by madness.... (Ginsberg Howl 1). The minds that he is writing
about are that of his fellow friends, acquaintances and literary

Difference Between Business Model And Strategy
Introduction: Business model is the word generally being confused with the strategy. In traditional
days, Organisations are confined to particular boundaries and used to operate in their own country of
origin. Strategies are placed for the success of the company. Due to the developments in technology
and global expansions of the business, a term called business model have been evolved to identify the
customer needs and the logic to transform those in to company s profit. So, this essay will show the
difference between business model and strategy and also how their alignments are going to impact the
firms performance. Literature Review: Strategy: Chandler (1962) defined strategy as The
determination of the basic long term goals and objectives of an enterprise, and the adoption of courses
of action and the allocation of resources for carrying out these goals . Strategy is related to long term
goals, policies and major issues of the business which determines the success or failure of the
organisation. In simple words, strategy is something which accomplishes the firm s goals. Strategy is
about being different from competitors by performing better (Magretta, 2002). A strategy of an
organisation should not be changed very often and should be planned for long term because strategy
needs a period of consolidation. Businesses follow strategy to have a competitive advantage over the
other firms in the market. According to Porter(1980) there are three generic strategies that

Theme Of Sonnet XIV
John Donne s poem Sonnet XIV delves into the relationship with God and his enemy, Satan. The form
of the poem is a source of tension. When conflicting elements resist, one another tension is produced.
Therefore, Donne creates tension by abandoning the traditional Petrarchan Sonnet that conforms to the
speaker s love for a woman and he speaks about his love for God. Donne s resolution to the conflict of
an overcrowded relationship is in him telling God to take control, so that he can be free from sin.
In John Donne s poem, Sonnet XIV, the poem s controlling meter is an Iambic Pentameter. The poems
rhyme scheme is regular. The rhyme scheme of a Petrarchan sonnet being abbaabbacdcdee . In the
poem, there are three (3) quatrains, followed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker makes use of figurative language and imagery to convey a more vivid description. The
speaker is comparing himself to a seized town. Meaning in more blatant terms, a town in captivity.
The site town in this case is a symbol that the speaker has used to represent himself. The symbol is a
contribution to the unity of the story. The symbol helps to create a more vivid picture of the way in
which the speaker is in bondage and needs to be freed. The speaker continues his train of thought by
saying labor to admit you, but oh, to no end meaning he tries to let the rightful owners in but his
attempt was futile. Then he makes mention that he should be protected by the statement Reason your
viceroy in me, me should defend/ But is captiv d, and proves weak or untrue . Suggesting that the ruler
in him is either being held in confinement, puny or disloyal. All of the aforementioned have a
congruous effect to the unity of the poem in entirety. Here we view the speaker explaining that sin had
him held captive and he wanted to let God in so that God could intervene and free him from sin.
However, the part of him that should have taken control did

Turning Point Of The Mexican Revolution
The Land belongs to the people who work it. An inspirational quote said by Emiliano Zapata during
the Mexican Revolution. One of the leading figures during the event. The Mexican Revolution was
one of many turning points in Latin History, but a greater turning point for the people of Mexico. The
revolution took place after defeating the French from the invasion of Mexico, which happened during

  • 2. Federal Communications Commission vs. Fox Television... In the case of the Federal Communications Commission vs. Fox Television Stations Inc., I will discuss the background and the role of the FCC in the United States, the history of Fox Television Stations Inc. and analyze the arguments of both sides. Based on those arguments I will answer the question did the Supreme Court get it right on the decision of this case. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) was created when Congress passed the Communications Act in 1934 which abolished the Federal Radio Commission and transferred jurisdiction of radio licensing to the Federal Communications Commission. This also included the telecommunications jurisdiction which was previously handled by the Interstate Commerce Commission. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the Metromedia deal was made Murdoch purchased Davis s shares and News Corporation assumed complete control of 20th Century Fox. Initially Fox Television Station was a semi autonomous unit in which News Corporation owned over 99 percent of the equity, but only 24 percent of the voting power. The balance was held personally by Murdoch. During this particular era the Federal Communications Commission regulations stated it prohibited foreign interests or non American citizens from controlling more than 25 percent of an FCC licensed broadcast station. Though News Corporation was still based in Australia Murdoch became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1985 and the transfer of majority voting to Murdoch was now sufficient (http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Television_Stations). As of today, Rupert Murdoch is still the chairman and controlling shareholder of News Corporation and believes that all forms of media should not be free during this era of global media empires (http://topics.nytimes.com). The main concern of this case was the adequacy of the Federal Communications Commission s explanation of its decision that it sometimes forbids broadcasting of indecent expletives even when the offensive words are not repeated and if the FCC has the power to punish the station for the vulgarity (FCC v. Fox, 2009, p. 1). The broadcasting stationed believed this was violating the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It regulates the procedure of investigation of crimes, collection of evidence, prosecution of offences, conduct of trials as well as award of punishment of offenders convicted of an offence. The Code of Criminal Procedure extended some special protection to children in a proceeding. During the course of investigation the investigating officer may call any person to police station or any other place, who may be acquainted with the facts. But a child under 15 years of age shall not be required to attend at any place other than the place in which he or she resides . Order for maintenance of wives, children and parents If any person having sufficient means neglects or refuses to maintain his legitimate or illegitimate minor child, whether married or not, unable to maintain itself, or his legitimate or illegitimate child (not being a married daughter) who has attained majority, where such child is, by reason of any physical or mental abnormality or injury unable to maintain itself, a Magistrate of the first class may, upon proof of such neglect or refusal, order such person to make a monthly allowance for the maintenance of his wife or such child, father or mother, at such monthly rate not exceeding five hundred rupees ... • 4. Sulfate Crystalss Lab In the experiment we concluded that room temperature had the longest duration and that the hypothesis that the hot temperature water would last longer was terribly wrong. The hot temperature water had the shortest time, and in all three trials it did not last longer that 3 and a half minutes. The room temperature water had an average time of 13 minutes and 43 seconds and the cold temperature water had an average temperature 13 minutes and 44 seconds. The cold temperature water had one second longer duration than the room temperature this is because in the 3rd trial the cold temperature water lasted over 15 minutes. Since there is no way to determine exactly when the light stops glowing the times can vary and this affected the averages. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The copper sulfate crystals could have been different sizes, even though we tried to keep them relatively the same size during the experiment. Another thing that could have gone wrong with the experiment is that there was inconsistent stirring during the trials with different temperature water, which could have affected the duration of the luminols light. The biggest concern that happened with the experiment was that the lights duration is guessed by the scientists doing the experiment, there is no way to know that the solution is done glowing scientifically. If the experiment was to be redone, it would be best if a few parts were changed. instead of doing individual crystals you could do scoops of crystals, so that the size of the crystal wouldn t affect the experiment and it would be a constant amount throughout the experiment and the different trails. Another thing that could be altered would be that there could somehow be a consistent way to know for sure when the luminol s light went out. In a variation of the project you could try different amounts of copper sulfate crystals, probate mixture, or luminol mixture on the same amount of water. Also you can change the amount of water and use the same amount of copper sulfate crystals, probate mixture, or luminol mixture. To see the effect on the duration of the luminols light you can try stirring for different amounts of time or at different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Resources And Pattern Essay Pattern Resources: The pattern resources give information about patterns. These resources are in various forms such as documents, research papers, books, web pages etc. Since the resources are at various locations and not in any standard or uniform format, it is very difficult for practitioners to locate and apply patterns. Semantic Relations: Patterns are related to other patterns. For example, some patterns may solve the same security goal or some patterns may be used at a specific lifecycle stage in software development. Classification methods have attempted to identify properties or attributes by which patterns can be tagged and classified. These classifiers form the semantic relations between patterns. Relationship annotation: The semantic content of patterns is modeled as a binary relation between a pattern and a set of attributes. The relationship annotation gives a matrix of pattern attribute relations. It forms the formal context for FCA and the input data for hierarchical clustering. FCA Engine: The FCA engine extracts concepts from the formal context and builds the concept lattice. Incremental FCA will ensure that changes to the formal context will be incorporated. Clustering: Hierarchical clustering groups patterns into a set of clusters which are in the form of a hierarchy. Knowledge representation: The pattern, attribute, concept and cluster knowledge is represented in the XML format so that it can be easily stored and shared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner Ordinarily, pieces of literature show scenes of violence. These events are not just placed haphazardly; often times, these predicaments are intricately set to build the meaning of the work. Wighout this kind of violence, some points in the novel would be hard to comprehend. In Khaled Hoseini s The Kite Runner, multiple cases of compulsion are demonstrated. Khaled Hosseini uses symbolism and sense of mood during these situations contribute to the understanding of his literary work. Chapter seven of the novel opens somewhat normal, with two young boys, Amir and Hassan, preparing for the annual kite running tournament. When the boys win the contest, an air of jubilance and carelessness comes over Amir and Hassan. Hosseini describes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, throughout his whole life, Amir feels the need to be repented for his past mistakes. When Amir gets the notorious call from Rahim Khan and asked upon his arrival to save Sohrab, Amir first denies but then accepts the fact that this may be his only chance to redeem himself. Amir finally finds the place where Sohrab is and is coincidentally confronted by Assef. The fight scene here is brutal, and full of bloodshed. However, rather than feeling pain, Amir feels at peace , healed , and satisfied. Overall, the scene is relieving and peaceful, at least for Amir. At the time, Amir s pain makes him feel happy by suffering. Though Assef brings a mood of obscurity, Amir s recent catharsis brings about one of relief. Throughout the whole fight, Amir knows that he really isn t going to win; but, winning was not the goal. When Amir decides not to rin from Assef, he welcomed the pain rather than running away from it as he did early on in the novel. Amir feels as though this is the punishment that he deserved because of his unfaithfulness to Hassan. This is the motive behind Amir s laughter during the fight. Upon going to the hospital after the fight, the doctor tells Amir that he has a scar splitting his upper lip, which ends up being similar to Hassan s. When Amir s scar surfaces, it shows the equality between Amir and Hassan. His whole life, Hassan was seen of a lower status because his family couldn t afford to get it ... Salinger, is a novel in which the author creates much irony in the way he presents the loss of innocence or the fall from innocence in his main character, Holden Caulfield. While Holden clearly believes in protecting the innocence of children in society, he himself cannot seem to hang onto his own innocence. Throughout the novel Holden shows his love and protection for childhood innocence, the irony that he in fact himself may be losing his own childhood innocence mainly due to the responsibilities which he has taken on, and also shows that he may be more innocent than the reader first thinks as his simplified view of a complex world is much like an innocent child would see. • 8. Analysis Of Ezra Pound s Ezra Pound s (1885 1972) Homage to Sextus Propertius has stirred controversies after its first publication in Harriet Monroe s Poetry magazine in March 1919. The poem is consisted of twelve sections and it was based on Propertius, a great Latin elegiac poet who lived during the first century. Pound s poem provides a new interpretation of Propertius that differs from his predecessors. Pound finds a voice to critique the corrupted politics of his time. The poem, However, has enraged the Classicists for they viewed it as an utter mistranslation of Propertius. Wilkinson, a Cambridge classicist, harshly criticized the poem and he concluded that Homage to Sextus Propertius purged of the perversities of Ezra Pound (viii). Similarly, Professor Gilbert Highet wrote in Horizon magazine that Homage was an insult both to poetry and to scholarship, and to common sense (viii). Highet accused Pound of bad taste and a disgusting misinterpretation of Propertius. Later, Robert Graves, a classical translator, attacked Pound s inaccuracies in the poem. In the Times Literary Supplement, he published a comical short play called Dr. Syntax and Mr. Pound mocking Pound s ignorance of Latin and the radical distortion he made and his claim of producing a free verse translation of the poem. He concluded that Pound has no respect for Propertius and that he should learn the moral principles in translation, a reference to his article published in 1965. • 9. The Importance Of Friendship In My Life When I was younger, I used to think that all people were good and every friendship that lasted longer than three months was forever. Now, I know that people will not always be what they seem, I might get hurt from friendships, and I have to learn to let go sometimes. I believe in standing up for yourself and your thoughts, even when it s the harder thing to do. I stand for not letting a toxic relationship define you. This is how I believe in self worth. When I started my freshman year, I walked in with some of the closest friends I d ever had. The four of us, my best gal pal, Anna, her boyfriend, Clay, and my best guy friend, Aaron. We did everything together, but it was Aaron and I that grew to be best friends over that year. When it comes to friendships I think I can become attached really easily. I am always the first person to say I love you . It s just in my nature to be attached to people because I don t want to change. We were constantly together, and they were the closest friendships and relationships that I might ever have. Nothing could come between us, until something did. By Christmas Eve I was seeing a boy, and on New Year s finally had my first kiss. They were happy for me, but as the month of January rolled by I noticed a change in them. • 10. Essay on An Annotation of Wallace Stevens Of Modern Poetry An Annotation of Wallace Stevens Of Modern Poetry In Of Modern Poetry, Stevens describes the purpose of modern poetry given what the audience knows and values. Modern poetry must be different from traditional poetry, because people of his time perceive themselves and their world differently than the people of earlier times. Stevens suggests that war, like other changes, have affected what people believe. Poetry must reflect to its audience what they want to hear. It must show them that the order, meaning and value they need is real, in so much as their minds both need it and can create it. Stevens first points out how modern poetry differs from traditional poetry. The implication is that people are now questioning some fundamental aspects of intellectual constructs that used to be considered necessary and true. In particular Stevens questions tradition of reading the book of nature, of starting with religious presumptions and assuming nature communicates these ideas to humans. Other traditions had changed as well thoughts about the social roles of men and women and social propriety; thoughts about religious values and scientific discovery; nature and purpose of communication resulting from new inventions. These changes sometimes reflected, sometimes caused the development of new values. The rest of the poem records the change that occurs after traditional assumptions are uprooted. The past was a souvenir because once people realized that certain traditions could be changed, they had no reason to believe those traditions had to be the standard. Like a souvenir, the scene and the script became only a reminder of where people had been, it has no practical use for the present. Once people conceived of a new stage, a new script, a new way of thinking, it had to be experimented with. They valued experimentation, because they did not have a required standard. As he descends through hell he progressively sees people who committed worse and worse crimes. Because of this we are able to see into the mind of Dante; and therefore, understand his thoughts on the volatility of the crimes committed. Personally I believe because of Dante being screwed in his own life plus the many backward thoughts of the time; Dante is much too harsh on humanity and he sends far too many people to hell. Dante s first circle is called Limbo. Limbo is just on the cusp of hell. People in Dante s limbo are not tortured and crying out they are just sighing because they lack hope of a better life. Later on in the play, Macbeth has Macduff s entire family murdered out of spite for Macduff, which seems very brutal even by Macbeth s impressive standards. One thing I did notice to be consistent throughout the play was the deterioration of both Macbeth s and Lady Macbeth s mental condition. This all starts about the time of the murder of Duncan, when Macbeth sees a mysterious dagger leading him towards Duncan s chamber, and becomes even more apparent after the murder of Banquo, when Macbeth sees an apparition of Banquo, covered in blood. This could be his conscience. Lady Macbeth also begins to hallucinate and picture her hands covered in blood whilst she still sleeps. There is a lot of such bloody and violent imagery throughout the play. She eventually dies, although Shakespeare omits to mention how, and we are left to speculate. For most people, these mistakes devastate their lives permanently, but for a select group, the impact is breathtaking. The idea that one huge mistake could lead to mind boggling success is the type of story one only reads about. World renowned rock band Aerosmith s success story is undeniably one of the greatest of all time, but it didn t come without massive failure. Steven Tyler, the lead singer of rock and roll hall of fame band Aerosmith, recorded his first solo song, Love Lives , divulging his jaded emotions of losing his band, wife, and essentially, soul during the early stages of his now historic career. Although Tyler s song appears to be just another cliche love song, the ballad capitalizes on parallelism, nostalgia imagery and diction, and ambiguity to expose the tremendous loss he suffered as a result of his career crippling drug addiction and the overwhelming success that emerged from the ashes of his past. Steven Tyler creates rhythm and flow in lyrics by utilizing parallelism between phrases and verses in his song. The main notion of a musical piece is to be memorable and melodic. Tyler constructs this melodic pattern by comparing and contrasting concepts in similarly structured phrases. These slightly contrasting ideas are presented similarly to force movement into the rhythm, I walk away, you stay behind (Tyler). The same sentence structure is used on the initial and ...
