Summary Of All The Light We Cannot See
One hundred and twenty one years before Anthony Doerr published All the Light We Cannot See,
Oscar Wilde wrote, There are moments when one has to choose between living one s own life, fully,
entirely, completely or dragging out some false, shallow, degrading existence that the world in its
hypocrisy demands. This sentiment could be a summary of All The Light We Cannot See. It could
easily be translated into the words repeatedly uttered in Doerr s Pulitzer Prize winning novel: Open
your eyes and see what you can with them before they close forever. To open the eyes is to live fully.
To leave them closed is to live that shallow, degrading existence the world demands and often
rewards. The world is not just. When the choice that is right contradicts the world s desires, to live
fully is to live a life of risk. Anthony Doerr s characterization of Werner illustrates this divide between
the right choice and the easy choice, and how when it matters most, they rarely overlap.
From childhood we were shown Werner s individuality. His striking white hair, the color of his eyes,
even his love of knowledge showed he was different. He made the choice to pursue his passion for
mechanics when it was harmless, but when the world comes knocking at the orphanage door, bringing
in a vice minister and his wife, it is the first time in his life where the easier choice of compliance is
separated from the right choice of the individual. Werner sits in silence when his passion, the thing

How Does Twain Characterize In Huck Finn
Twain, Mark. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Webster, 1885. The novel, The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn, is among the first major vernacular English American literature, according to
Wikipedia. It features a fictional first person account of people and towns along the Mississippi River
in Missouri, Illinois, and Arkansas. Huckleberry Huck Finn is a teenage boy, who is raised by his
drunken father and has difficulty conforming to society. The plot begins with a recap of The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer, explaining how Huck Finn and Tom had just came into a large sum of
money and that Huck Finn was currently being sivilized by Widow Douglas. Twain s novel provides a
satirical view of a racist society during the mid 1800 s, through the perspective of Huckleberry Finn.
Although The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published in the late 1800 s, it is still widely
popular throughout the world today (Wikipedia).

A late nineteenth century engineer, Hank Morgan, from Northern United States, is transported back in
time to Middle Age England. Because of his knowledge of futuristic technology, the time traveler is
able to create the fraudulent image of himself as a magician. Eventually society becomes afraid and
skeptical of his power. Throughout the novel he attempts to modernize the past and save King Arthur,
but fails to do so. The main theme of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court is the unrealistic
views of medieval chivalry and the romanticism of the Middle Ages. This particular work of Twain
has been described as the foundation of the science fiction time travel sub genre

A Brief Note On The And The Classroom
Paraprofessionals
Paraprofessionals, or paras as they are most commonly called, have very important roles in and out of
the classroom. They assist special needs students with a variety of tasks and routines throughout the
school day. However, according to Giangreco, the common misconception teachers have is that the
paraprofessional and special educator will handle most of the planning, adapting, supervision, and
instruction. All I need to do is be a gracious host (Giangreco, 2003). This way of thinking can cause
tension between the para and the classroom teacher. Sure, paras are in the classroom for the special ed
kids, but teachers are in the classroom for all students. They should not ignore the students with
disabilities just because there is a para in the room who s job it is to handle these students. Para s are
in classrooms to assist the children with their learning, not take the role of the teacher.
Another common misconception, this one from the community as a whole, is that aides and paras have
the same responsibilities. Aides take the role of a teacher s assistant more so than a para. Aides are in
the classroom to help keep the chaos to a minimum, organize the classroom, and make copies for a
lesson. Paras on the other hand, are trained professionals that modify curriculum, implement behavior
management plans, and provide one on one instruction for the students with special needs (Role). In
fact, the average special education paraprofessional works in five

Essay about Legal Aspects of Fire Protection
Legal issues are a necessary function of the fire service as with any business, therefore long term
strategies must be established that ensure compliance with mandated regulations and laws. The legal
issues a fire department may face can fill volumes of books, perhaps even a library, however a plan of
action must be established to avoid legal repercussions for the fire department and/or its members.
Common legal issues should be addressed within the fire department standard operating guidelines or
procedures and newly arising issues should be viewed carefully before a plan of action is developed.
Court decisions have been rendered that negatively affect jurisdictions, fire departments, and its
members in ways that range from fines up to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The failure to abide by a mutual aid agreement is a breach of legal requirement and an unethical
practice of which a fire department and the jurisdiction may be held liable. The complexity of mutual
aid agreements has required lawmakers to adopt new laws and regulations that reduce the complexity
of the mutual aid agreement, yet continue to provide the level of protections afforded to each
participating agency that was contained within the many complex mutual aid agreements. The State of
Tennessee, recognizing the problem of both multiple and complex mutual aid agreements, adopted the
Mutual Aid and Emergency and Disaster Assistance Agreement Act of 2004 to provide emergency
services agencies in Tennessee a solution to a growing problem (University of Tennessee Institute for
Public Service, 2004). The Mutual Aid Agreement Act provides a law that is applicable to all fire
departments in Tennessee who receive public funding and a law that changes mutual aid agreements
for all emergency services providers in the state (University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service,
2004).
To reduce liability and streamline the process of mutual aid agreements fire departments in Tennessee
will utilize the provisions of the Mutual Aid Agreement Act. The act provides a mutual aid agreement
for all emergency services agencies within the state and assigns the responsibility of items such as

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spectrum Sensing
Abstract The constrained available spectrum and the incompetence in the spectrum utilization and
administration require another correspondence innovation and communication technology.. Spectrum
sensing is used to detect the (unlicensed) the unused (licensed) frequency bands. Spectrum sensing
includes locating the usage of spectrum and their features across different dimensions such as code
frequency ,time and space. The key features of CR system is that it senses the electromagnetic
environment to use their operation and dynamically vary its radio operating parameters. With the
likely transition of radio communications from static to dynamic spectrum access in the near future,
spectrum sensing has become an interesting area of research. Even though many signal detection
methods have a long history, economical implementations of consumer devices employing spectrum
sensing are still missing. In this research an overview of current state of the art spectrum sensing
methods, limited to the binary decision of channel occupancy is presented. Existing methods are
categorized into energy detector, cyclostationary and matched filter methods. A concise introduction

Hitler And Mussolini Similarities
Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini are both distinctive totalitarian leaders during 1920 1930s, ruling
Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy respectively. Totalitarianism is a political form where the dictator
exercises absolute control over the country and promotes foreign expansion. In the following, the
internal and foreign totalitarian policies of Hitler and Mussolini will be compared. Similarities,
differences and the impacts of their rule will be found out. For internal policies, comparisons will be
done in political, economic and social aspects. The impacts of the policies will mainly focus on
individuals and society. Politically, some of their totalitarian rules were similar. Both Hitler and
Mussolini promoted one party rule and used violent means to ban other ... Show more content on

His troops surrounded the opera house and the deputies inside were threatened. The Enabling Act
granted Hitler the absolute right to make laws, and therefore enabled him to implement one party
totalitarianism. Similarly, Mussolini drew up a plan of the Acerbo Electoral Law to ensure that the
party which gained the most votes in the election, could be automatically allotted two thirds of the
seats in the Chamber. In the election, Fascists attacked and singled out socialists to make sure that
their party could achieve a majority. Successfully being the most influential party in the parliament, all
the members were appointed by Mussolini, but not elected. Both Hitler and Mussolini stressed on one
party dictatorship in order to secure their leading positions. The second similarity is that the two state
leaders both took advantage of spies and the police force to monitor the behaviour of their citizens. In
Germany, the SS (Schutzstaffel), SA (Sturmabteilung), SD (Sicherheitsdienst) and Gestapo (Secret
Police State) together formed the political police force. They were allowed to enter and search private

Hypocrisy Research Paper
Equality in Hypocrisy Society has trained itself to spot the flaws in celebrities, government officials,
and religious participants. In many situations religious people are accused of being largely more
scandalous without anyone thoroughly looking into the situation, unlike with celebrities or
government officials, for whom full investigations are run. A hugely popular and easily identifiable
flaw is hypocrisy, something that religious people are called out for frequently. However, religion is
not what determines the level of severity of a hypocrite, and in fact has little to do with it at all. There
is no better or worse hypocrite, regardless of religion, when it comes to identical situations, protecting
others, or even the effect it has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hypocrisy is something society searches for much too eagerly and investigate as little as possible. It is
easy to blame the religious because people expect more from them perhaps, or because they watch
them more closely than they watch themselves, but in any case, there is no hard evidence to prove that
either one, religious or non religious hypocrites are better or worse than the other. Any hypocrite can
be a bad hypocrite or a good hypocrite , it all depends on the outsider s perspective and understanding
of the situation, not of the personal beliefs of the hypocrite. If there can be equality nowhere else,

What Is The Theme Of The Newsies
Have you ever wanted a movie about a bunch of kids beating the big man, and to top it off, with a
catchy soundtrack? Well, Newsies directed by Kenny Ortega might just be the movie for you. Newsies
has its ups and downs, but overall has an interesting plot with few bumps, fun characters with thick
accents, and a beautiful set with some memorable music.
Newsies takes place in 1899 New York and focuses on a group of kids, specifically Jack Kelly and
David Jacobs, who try to make a living selling newspapers whether it be to help out the family or to
simply survive on their own. However, this becomes increasingly hard when Joseph Pulitzer raises
paper prices to try and give his competition a run for their money. As one can assume, this does not go
over well with the newsies, so banding together, they form a union and go on strike. Overall, I think

Everything looked like what you would expect of the late 1800 s. Horse drawn carriages, suspenders,
paved streets, it all really added to the movie and helped the story along instead of getting in the way.
Something that I think genuinely worked in their favor was the contrast between the wealthy and the
poor. Take David s family for example, a family of five living in what looks to be a studio apartment,
maybe a one bedroom and contrast that with Joseph Pulitzer s office at the top of a tall, domed
building finished off with a gold coat. Also, the music used in the background was nice to help create
suspense, I specifically liked how in spots during the second half you could hear pieces of Santa Fe
float around. Along with that, this is a musical, songs are a large part of the plot and how the story is
told and I believe that the songs were quite effectful. Songs where all of the boys sing together, like

determination, and readiness for what lies

Analysis Of The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao
The Faceless Man Throughout Junot Diaz s novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the Man
Without a Face is a recurring character with no evident features. All of his scenes include an event in
which he is either a mysterious spectator watching the distress around himself or joins in on the
torture. His appearances throughout the story are suggestive of evil or violent incidents that are about
to occur. More times than not, the acts are performed by Trujillo s men. Almost consistently, he
emerges whenever one of the main characters is in great discord. The faceless man symbolizes the
foreshadowing of malicious occurrences caused by Fukú. Fukú is a prevalent theme throughout the
novel and is portrayed through the faceless man. The Washington Post speaks of their interview with
Diaz and stated, Fuku americanus Diaz explains, is generally a curse or a doom of some kind;
specifically the Curse and the Doom of the New World. It seems especially contagious and deadly in
the Dominican Republic, where it is believed that the arrival of Europeans on Hispaniola unleashed
the Fukú on the world. (Review: It s a Wonderful Life 4). Fukú is shown through the many horrific
events that are shown throughout. Trujillo is believed to be able to put the curse on whoever he
chooses for many generations to follow. In the news article Fukú Americanus, Deresiewicz states, The
white man s advent, the narrator tells us, released a demon into the world: Fukú americanus, the Curse

Themes In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan Paton
Abraham Lincoln once stated that, If you look for the bad in people and expect to find it, you surely
will. Stephen struggles with detecting the faults in other people s lives throughout the book Cry, the
Beloved Country by Alan Paton. Anticipating people to embody a bad reputation could ruin his
relationships with the people he meets. When Stephen, a father and Umfundisi looking for his family,
visits his son s girlfriend and his sister in the city of Johannesburg, the conditions they live in shock
him and he immediately judges them because he expected to discover something bad and he did.
Stephen evinces the redemption cycle through his interactions with Absalom s girlfriend and his sister
Gertrude. Stephen sinned against Absalom s girlfriend, a pregnant and soon to be widow, because he
tested her to see if she will be loyal to his son and reconciled with her by taking her into his home and
raising her as his daughter. When Stephen went to see the girl, he found out that she had three
husbands before Absalom. He asked her if she would be willing to sleep with someone else, after she
said no he asked, not even...if I desired you? (Paton 146). Immediately after Stephen said this and he
realized that he should not have asked her this question because she never had a father figure in her
life to teach her that this choice is wrong. Using the word desired shows how hard Stephen wanted to
test her. He wanted to make it hard for her to make a decision to see if she would

The Effect of Ph on a Food Preservative Essay
The Effect of pH on a Food Preservative
September 18, 2012
Objective:
To study the affect of pH on a food preservative.
Chemical Equation: C6H5COONa + HCL C6H5COOH + NaCl
Procedure:
This experiment was started with a clear solution of sodium benzoate and HCl was added to it,
ultimately producing benzoic acid. First, .3395 g of sodium benzoate was weighed, then it was
dissolved in water, causing it to disassociate into ions. Next, 3M of HCl were added drop wise to the
solution until it reached a pH of 2, thus introducing the hydronium ion. This addition caused a white,
solid benzoic acid to precipitate out of the solution. A vacuum filtration system was used to separate
the solid from the liquid. What was once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once, the precipitate was ready to be placed in the oven there was not enough time to allow for it to
dry for 10 minutes. The precipitate was only in the oven for about 5 minutes, therefore, when weighed
there was excess liquid in the precipitate. The final weight of the precipitate was .45 g which was
more than the amount that was started with. From this end weight, it can be deduced that there was
excess liquid in the end result.
Post Lab: 1. The experiment began with a clear solution of sodium benzoate, once 3 M of HCl were
added to achieve a pH of 2, the clear solution became a precipitate. Sodium benzoate was water
soluble, but the yield of benzoic acid became quite insoluble in water.
3b. Although, a low amount of HCl was used, the waste can still cause health risks and risks to the
environment because it was not just one person doing the experiment, therefore increasing the waste
of HCl. Water was also used to wash the vial to remove all solids that might be sticking to the side of
the vial, therefore, wasting water, which is not green.
4. If you start adding NaOH to the solution in small amounts, NaOH neutralizes part of the HCl,
(moles of HCl to moles of NaOH) so the pH begins to increase slowly, this raises the soluability. This
allows for the equivalent point to be reached: moles of HCl = moles of NaOH. By continuing to add
the NaOH, pH will

I loved living in New York. The always busy city s streets and the diversity of the people residing
there gave the metropolis strong character. For ten months, I had been practicing law in the city and
enjoying my job a lot until that fateful day when my fiancée ended our engagement. Following the

Value Analysis
VALUE ANALYSIS
THE CONCEPT OF VALUE
The value of a product will be interpreted in different ways by different customers. Value is subjective.
Just as beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, value is highly dependent upon perspective. Frequently,
the analyst will discover that the different perspectives will lead to conflicting definitions of value.
But usually its common characteristic is a high level of performance, capability, emotional appeal,
style, etc. relative to its cost. This can also be expressed as maximizing the function of a product
relative to its cost:
Value = (Performance + Capability)/Cost = Function/Cost
Value is not a matter of minimizing cost. In some cases the value of a product can be increased by
increasing its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not an absolute rule, but rather an observation of the consumer products market. Few people
purchase consumer products based on performance or the lowest cost of basic functions alone. When
purchasing a product it is assumed that the basic function is operative. The customer s attention is then
directed to those visible secondary support functions, or product features, which determine the worth
of the product. From a product design point of view, products that are perceived to have high value
first address the basic function s performance and stress the achievement of all of the performance
attributes. Once the basic functions are satisfied, the designer s then address the secondary functions
necessary to attract customers. Secondary functions are incorporated in the product as features to
support and enhance the basic function and help sell the product. The elimination of secondary
functions that are not very important to the customer will reduce product cost and increase value
without detracting from the worth of the product.
The cost contribution of the basic function does not, by itself, establish the value of the product. Few
products are sold on the basis of their basic function alone. If this were so, the market for no name
brands would be more popular than it is today. Although the cost contribution of the basic function is
relatively small, its loss will cause

Elizabethan Era Characteristics
Three best characteristics of a leader There are many people that could be considered and have been
chosen as good leaders for certain traits such as respect, reliability, responsibility, trustworthiness, and
being really good at what they do and how they present their thoughts. Jensen Ackles, a director, actor,
singer, Queen Elizabeth I, queen, reliable person, Abraham Lincoln, president and a very trustworthy
person. These three people show many great leader traits, but they have only one trait per person that
defines them best. Abraham Lincoln, a very well known president of the United States with many
traits, one being responsibility. Abraham had introduced the emancipation proclamation that had freed
all the rebellious states slaves in 1863. Definition of responsibility being The state or fact of having a
duty to deal with something or having control over someone. Lincoln had lots of duties to deal with, it

Ethical Consumerism Of Fast Fashion
Abstract Fast fashion has received a great deal of public attention in recent years. However, the
phenomenon of ethical consumerism in fast fashion is under researched. This study explores current
barriers to ethical consumerism in fast fashion. There is a body of research that investigate intention
and the actual behavior of ethical minded consumers (Carrington et al. 2010; Beard 2008; Brandstätter
et al. 2006; Kim et al. 2013) but not much has been done on ethical consumerism including the driving
forces behind consumer behavior in in fast fashion industry. Data for the study was collecting through
three focus groups which provided key information on consumer behaviour relating to the garment
industry, and in particular Fast Fashion. The major finding of this expletory study is that ethically
minded consumerism exists, but there is a conflict between personal benefits and the desire to act
ethically. This research is focused on pre levels of awareness and the key drivers of purchasing
behaviour. It raises awareness of ethical issues within fast fashion to a small group of consumers in
which most of the consumers indicate a willingness to purchase ethically following the awareness
raising exercise. However, further research is necessary to understand whether this translates into a
change in consumer behavior and whether these consumers actually follow through their stated
intention to shop more ethically in future. Chapter 1: Introduction and research

started from the very beginning of the work to show the dominance of a man to a women in the 1600 s

gender, because it overthrows and reinforces the traditionally assigned gender roles of 17th Century.

not something to cherish or care about just an object. The mistress he proves himself with is Julia. He
decided to trust Julia with a bit of information about the Duchess s murder in hopes that she would
keep it to herself. But when she tells the secret about the murder he decided to kill her by poisoning
her. The Cardinal is quoted as saying,
I knew thou couldst not keep my council, I have bound thee to t by death (The Duchess of Malfi,
5.2.275 276).
Instead of trusting his mistress he chose to kill her as a source of revenge to get rid of her.
This Play the Duchess of Malfi by John Webster is quit a gender striking play. In many ways are roles
played my genders in the 21st century really messed with in this work. I believe that the Gender roles
that we have no have became much more just and are far more equal for a woman in today s day and
age. A woman is allowed to do as she pleases pretty much on her own terms. There aren t arranged
marriages anymore and a brother does not have control over his siter. Webster had a very fascinating
take on gender roles and how they were portrayed in his

The Argument Of Capital Punishment
The Argument of Capital Punishment
There not many issues in the criminal justice system that have caused more heated discussions and
arguments as consistent and strong as that of the argument of capital punishment. Capital punishment

punishment is the most severe form in the U.S. todays and it has different type which lethal injection
is the most common ( Ethics and Law ). There have been many religious arguments involved in both
sides of the argument, citing both the need for justice and the sanctity of human life. This debate
regarding the death penalty has become a complex issue in recent years with concerns as to the
equality of the criminal justice system, the position of physicians in assisting in executions, and the
likelihood of reform, improvement and rehabilitation amid individuals currently serving on death row.
Also, Make a decision on capital punishment is so complex and difficult for the federal government.
Each side of defenders and opponents have their own strong reasons. On the one hand, offenders
believe fear of death prevent peoples from committing crim. Also, they mentioned on the Crime

The restaurant commits itself to franchisees and stakeholders in helping to achieve superior financial
results and sustainable performance and development opportunities. Thus, the corporate mission and
its core values are instrumental to the company s success. Industry Analysis The industry is made up
of full service restaurants, which provide take out and entertainment services along with food services
(Southward, 2013). The food service industry is extremely competitive, in which BWW is constantly
increasing and improving its brand image, recognition and loyalty. The actual major industry concerns
are rising food and labor costs. Rising costs have forced restaurant chains to increase prices for meals.
In the recent years, BWW restaurants are affected by the economic downfall (Southward, 2013).
People began eating out less as a whole and restaurants have had to use new techniques and solutions
to draw more guests. BWW is undertaking various steps to fight the economic crisis. For instance,
twice a week they have specials on two types of chicken wings: traditional and boneless ones at fifty
percent off. This tool has been an effective in attracting more guests. The company is also utilizing
such measures as distribution of coupons with $5 discount or a coupon for 6 free wings in BWW
(Buffalo Wild Wings Marketing Plan, n.d.). Additionally, to entertain their guests and make their visit
to the restaurant more enjoyable, BWW is using modern technology. It

Lemonade Stand, Part 1
Develop a creative name for your lemonade stand, and then explain why a name is important when
you are considering branding options. The name that I have chosen to go with for my lemonade stand
is The Lemonators . The reason I picked this name is because it sounds like my lemonade stand is the
destroyer of all lemons to make nothing less than the perfect glass of ice cold liquid gold; or as others
like to call it, lemonade. I believe that my lemonade stand name is important when I am considering
branding options because I believe that the name is genius. It s catchy; there is no way that a customer
that stops by for a quick quench of their thirst will forget a name like The Lemonators. ... Show more

Also, we promise on using only all natural ingredients to make our lemonade. This means that we will
be using things such as naturally grown fruit, no artificial sweeteners, etc. This would mean that in
order for us to sweeten our lemonade, we would only be using natural sweeteners, such as brown
sugar. That is my business Corporate Social Responsibility plan. The textbook lists many different
types of pricing strategies, please pick one of these and explain how you will deliver on this strategy
with your stand. (Chapter 14) The pricing strategy that I chose is marketing objectives. Our company
will deliver on this strategy to this stand by competing with our competitor s stand. Our competitor,
Jimmy, manages the Lemonade Stand Liquid Yellow charges $1.50 for one cup of lemonade.
However, they use artificial ingredients, such as artificial flavoring and coloring, white sugar, etc. My
company decided that we want to have a price that is higher than Jim s price. We decided that we want
to charge $2.00 for a cup of lemonade. We decided to charge this price because unlike Jim s stand, we
use all natural ingredients, which cost more than artificial ingredients and are healthier for you than
artificial ingredients are. That is my company s pricing strategy.
Even though you only sell to local customers, you understand that you could package your lemonade
and sell it online globally. Evaluate whether or not the company should go global by

United States slavery era, African Americans either did not have access of did not have the
opportunity to learn to become either more literate or even literate to some distinct standard of just
being able to begin to learn how to read or write. African Americans were seriously repressed in
physical and mental means during slavery. When the slaves were freed after the Civil War, they were
granted the right to vote shortly after. African American schools had just started to open, churches
were doing everything in their power to place African Americans in positions of power and education,
but a large number of African Americans were still not literate enough to pass the unjustifiable literacy

officials used it to prove competence in the ability to vote, but it was really only used to

Scopes Trial Essay
The twentieth century Scopes trial may have started out as a simple debate between evolutionists and
creationists, but quickly escalated to a debate of historic proportions. The 1920s were times of change
in the United States, from women getting the right to vote to prohibition to changes in education, such
as the Butler Act, which created unease and animosity throughout the country. The Butler Act of 1925
prohibited the teaching of evolution and any other theories that deny the story of the divine creation of
man as taught in the Bible in all Universities and public schools in Tennessee. John Scopes, a high
school biology teacher in Dayton, Tennessee decided to test this law. He was found guilty of teaching
evolution to his high school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Giving students freedom in their academic lives encouraged students to form their own opinions.
Teachers had biased feelings towards those who denied students the right to the whole truth because of
specific religions, because it raises an uneducated generation. Fundamentalists needed to realize that
as times changed9 modernization of education is necessary, regardless of religious beliefs so students
receive the full truth and become liberated people. If students are restricted from certain topics and are
only taught one view on a few subjects then there will be no new or different ways of thinking,
rendering education pointless. Without freedom in the intellectual life, and without the inspiration of
uncensored discovery and discussion, there could ultimately be no scholarship, no schools at all and
no education. The American Federation of Teachers expressed their fear for the future of education
and how it would be constrained due to traditionalism, in contradiction of Sparks and other
creationists. Dudley Field Malone, an attorney on the defense team for the Scopes trial, argued for the
importance of teaching science and religion to fully educate the students and allow them to form their
own opinions and ideas. Malone made the point that the old generation owes the new generation all
the facts and theories acquired by learning, studying, and observing so they have the opportunity to
enhance and better the generations

Aguero Sisters Cultural Identity
The Agüero Sisters, a novel by Christina García, explores the desire to understand and connect with
one s past through memory, specifically calling attention to those that evoke feelings such as
dislocation and loss. Through these concepts, the Agüero family longs to identify with the Cuban
nation they once called home. In this context, García rewrites cultural identity as one that transcends
borders and is further maintained through personal memory.
Through her portrayal of the characters of Constancia Agüero and Reina Agüero, García captures the
experience of those whose lives were changed through separation from their Cuban nation. While both
of the Agüero sisters ultimately left Cuba at some point in their lives, both Constancia and ... Show

Constancia enjoyed the disconnect New York created between her and her memories of Cuba, but has
to face the reality that in Miami, Constancia assumes a renewed sense of Cuban consciousness.
Constancia soon finds that every aspect of Miami reminds her of her short lived childhood in Cuba:
The light is blinding too, a sentence to the past, to her life in Cuba. Everywhere there is a mass of
disquieting details... The accent of the valet who parks her car. Her seamstress old fashioned stitching.
And the songs, slow as regret... (García 46).
Constancia s sense of loss rests in her description of Miami as a mass of disquieting details and its
blinding light. While she tried for many years to shelter herself from feeling the loss of her mother, her
childhood, and above all, her home, the similarity of Miami s geography and societal norms forces her
to recognize her true cultural identity. Being situated in a place similar to that of Cuba is unsettling for
Constancia as she listens to the music broadcasted on the radio. She describes this music as to embody
notions of regret , symbolizing the overreaching desire of Cuban Americans to return to a world that
no longer exists as they once knew it.
Themes of dislocation and loss through memory are also apparent in the transition of Constancia s
physical appearance to be identical to that of her mother s. Constancia s past creeped into her life

Remember The Tians Is A Sports Movie Based On A True Story
Remember the Tians is a sports movie based on a true story. The movie is about racism and how the
characters abandon prejudices between each other in order to win the game.
The 1970s was the era for American African civil rights movements. In Virginia, located in the south
center of the United States, the population were still very conservative. There s a high school football
team called the Titans with only white players. Yet, the school followed the racial integration policy
which accepted many black students. This caused the Titan team to become a blended team. In
addition, the school also demoted the already extremely successful white Coach Yoast and let a black
man Boone to be the head coach because of the policy. Many white students and their parents
protested and threatened they are going to quit. The residents were also are the same as these students,
as they had suspicious and had doubts. Black man in a superior position towards a white man is a very
dissonant combination, and the team players despised each other. Even the school didn t support
Coach Boone and claimed he will be replaced as soon as he loses one game. It s not an easy job to
train this team and trying to get them to co operate, he is not only needing to hone the students playing
skills but also the team morale and the contradiction between him and the assistant coach. The worst
thing is the whole society resist this blended team. In this film, Coach Boone perfectly demonstrates

An Artist s greatest masterpiece: Miyazaki s Howl s Moving Castle
(Into needs work)! A childhood muse for me has become an inspiration piece of art by hayao
miyazaki. Howl s Moving Castle has both captivated my imagination and taught me the power of
good art. Not only does miyazaki s film speak to a societal issue, it also creates a perfect connect
between the audience s reactions and the plot through complex characters and impressive
cinematography. Hayao Miyazaki s film Howl s Moving Castle is about the journey of a young girl

The characters do not follow a strict guideline of good or evil but alternate according to the plot. Howl
s character is one that alternates between the main character, the hero, soulless character, and the
hopeless protagonist. He takes on a devilish form and is perceived as evil incarnate, but at the same
time, Miyazaki maintains howl s character as one who is a victim of his own mistakes. Another
character, the young boy, disguises himself as an old healer. Although he is just a boy, he takes on the
role of a guardian of the castle, a wizard apprentice, and even a healer. The witch of the waste is at
first given the role of a villain but moves on to take on that of an old crippled woman. She is portrayed
as a heartless witch whose greed led her a path of darkness, but as her character develops, she too was
a revealed to be a warm, amicable old woman. This is one way Miyazaki keeps the movie interesting
and unpredictable with remarkable character development. The character development through out the
story helps create an unpredictable movie and an amazing piece of

Cultural Practices Influence The Way We Perceive The World
Cultural practices influence the way we perceive the world. Our Western world is more exposed to
different things yet have a difficult time accepting Eastern cultures and how things beyond us work. A
major issue that is affected by culture is sexuality. A subtopic of sexuality is, slut shaming. Slut
shaming is, the act of making any person feel guilty or inferior for certain sexual behaviors or desires
that deviate from traditional or orthodox gender expectations, (Your Dictionary). My outside source,
Teen girls sexual double standards and sexting: Gendered value in digital image exchange, explains
the prominent gender inequalities and sexual double standards. However, the issue of culture shaping
thinking with slut shaming as the core issue at hand is asserting gender, religion, equality and
parenting.
Slut shaming shapes thinking of gender and equality because of how the double standards works. In
the eyes of many cultures a man would sleep with 5 women and be a legend, yet a woman sleeps with
5 men and she is worthless trash. In Eastern cultures this is extremely prominent. In many Eastern
cultures, such as Middle Eastern cultures, it is very well known that such cultures practice polygamy.
Polygamy is the practice or custom of having more than one wife or husband at the same time.
(Webster). This practice however is more seen throughout the male cohorts of the culture. A woman is
shunned and in most cases killed if she is with more than one man. In Western

  • 2. Summary Of All The Light We Cannot See One hundred and twenty one years before Anthony Doerr published All the Light We Cannot See, Oscar Wilde wrote, There are moments when one has to choose between living one s own life, fully, entirely, completely or dragging out some false, shallow, degrading existence that the world in its hypocrisy demands. This sentiment could be a summary of All The Light We Cannot See. It could easily be translated into the words repeatedly uttered in Doerr s Pulitzer Prize winning novel: Open your eyes and see what you can with them before they close forever. To open the eyes is to live fully. To leave them closed is to live that shallow, degrading existence the world demands and often rewards. The world is not just. When the choice that is right contradicts the world s desires, to live fully is to live a life of risk. Anthony Doerr s characterization of Werner illustrates this divide between the right choice and the easy choice, and how when it matters most, they rarely overlap. From childhood we were shown Werner s individuality. His striking white hair, the color of his eyes, even his love of knowledge showed he was different. He made the choice to pursue his passion for mechanics when it was harmless, but when the world comes knocking at the orphanage door, bringing in a vice minister and his wife, it is the first time in his life where the easier choice of compliance is separated from the right choice of the individual. Werner sits in silence when his passion, the thing that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Does Twain Characterize In Huck Finn Twain, Mark. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Webster, 1885. The novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is among the first major vernacular English American literature, according to Wikipedia. It features a fictional first person account of people and towns along the Mississippi River in Missouri, Illinois, and Arkansas. Huckleberry Huck Finn is a teenage boy, who is raised by his drunken father and has difficulty conforming to society. The plot begins with a recap of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, explaining how Huck Finn and Tom had just came into a large sum of money and that Huck Finn was currently being sivilized by Widow Douglas. Twain s novel provides a satirical view of a racist society during the mid 1800 s, through the perspective of Huckleberry Finn. Although The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published in the late 1800 s, it is still widely popular throughout the world today (Wikipedia). . The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. • 4. A Brief Note On The And The Classroom Paraprofessionals Paraprofessionals, or paras as they are most commonly called, have very important roles in and out of the classroom. They assist special needs students with a variety of tasks and routines throughout the school day. However, according to Giangreco, the common misconception teachers have is that the paraprofessional and special educator will handle most of the planning, adapting, supervision, and instruction. All I need to do is be a gracious host (Giangreco, 2003). This way of thinking can cause tension between the para and the classroom teacher. Sure, paras are in the classroom for the special ed kids, but teachers are in the classroom for all students. They should not ignore the students with disabilities just because there is a para in the room who s job it is to handle these students. Para s are in classrooms to assist the children with their learning, not take the role of the teacher. Another common misconception, this one from the community as a whole, is that aides and paras have the same responsibilities. Aides take the role of a teacher s assistant more so than a para. Aides are in the classroom to help keep the chaos to a minimum, organize the classroom, and make copies for a lesson. Paras on the other hand, are trained professionals that modify curriculum, implement behavior management plans, and provide one on one instruction for the students with special needs (Role). In fact, the average special education paraprofessional works in five ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Legal Aspects of Fire Protection Legal issues are a necessary function of the fire service as with any business, therefore long term strategies must be established that ensure compliance with mandated regulations and laws. The legal issues a fire department may face can fill volumes of books, perhaps even a library, however a plan of action must be established to avoid legal repercussions for the fire department and/or its members. Common legal issues should be addressed within the fire department standard operating guidelines or procedures and newly arising issues should be viewed carefully before a plan of action is developed. The failure to abide by a mutual aid agreement is a breach of legal requirement and an unethical practice of which a fire department and the jurisdiction may be held liable. The complexity of mutual aid agreements has required lawmakers to adopt new laws and regulations that reduce the complexity of the mutual aid agreement, yet continue to provide the level of protections afforded to each participating agency that was contained within the many complex mutual aid agreements. The State of Tennessee, recognizing the problem of both multiple and complex mutual aid agreements, adopted the Mutual Aid and Emergency and Disaster Assistance Agreement Act of 2004 to provide emergency services agencies in Tennessee a solution to a growing problem (University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service, 2004). The Mutual Aid Agreement Act provides a law that is applicable to all fire departments in Tennessee who receive public funding and a law that changes mutual aid agreements for all emergency services providers in the state (University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service, 2004). Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spectrum Sensing Abstract The constrained available spectrum and the incompetence in the spectrum utilization and administration require another correspondence innovation and communication technology.. Spectrum sensing is used to detect the (unlicensed) the unused (licensed) frequency bands. Spectrum sensing includes locating the usage of spectrum and their features across different dimensions such as code frequency ,time and space. The key features of CR system is that it senses the electromagnetic environment to use their operation and dynamically vary its radio operating parameters. With the likely transition of radio communications from static to dynamic spectrum access in the near future, spectrum sensing has become an interesting area of research. Even though many signal detection methods have a long history, economical implementations of consumer devices employing spectrum sensing are still missing. In this research an overview of current state of the art spectrum sensing methods, limited to the binary decision of channel occupancy is presented. In many situations religious people are accused of being largely more scandalous without anyone thoroughly looking into the situation, unlike with celebrities or government officials, for whom full investigations are run. A hugely popular and easily identifiable flaw is hypocrisy, something that religious people are called out for frequently. • 10. What Is The Theme Of The Newsies Have you ever wanted a movie about a bunch of kids beating the big man, and to top it off, with a catchy soundtrack? Well, Newsies directed by Kenny Ortega might just be the movie for you. Newsies has its ups and downs, but overall has an interesting plot with few bumps, fun characters with thick accents, and a beautiful set with some memorable music. Newsies takes place in 1899 New York and focuses on a group of kids, specifically Jack Kelly and David Jacobs, who try to make a living selling newspapers whether it be to help out the family or to simply survive on their own. However, this becomes increasingly hard when Joseph Pulitzer raises paper prices to try and give his competition a run for their money. Everything looked like what you would expect of the late 1800 s. Horse drawn carriages, suspenders, paved streets, it all really added to the movie and helped the story along instead of getting in the way. Something that I think genuinely worked in their favor was the contrast between the wealthy and the poor. Take David s family for example, a family of five living in what looks to be a studio apartment, maybe a one bedroom and contrast that with Joseph Pulitzer s office at the top of a tall, domed building finished off with a gold coat. Also, the music used in the background was nice to help create suspense, I specifically liked how in spots during the second half you could hear pieces of Santa Fe float around. Along with that, this is a musical, songs are a large part of the plot and how the story is told and I believe that the songs were quite effectful. Songs where all of the boys sing together, like The World Will Know and Seize the Day , were really strong and gave you this feeling of power, determination, and readiness for what lies ... • 12. Analysis Of The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao The Faceless Man Throughout Junot Diaz s novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the Man Without a Face is a recurring character with no evident features. All of his scenes include an event in which he is either a mysterious spectator watching the distress around himself or joins in on the torture. His appearances throughout the story are suggestive of evil or violent incidents that are about to occur. More times than not, the acts are performed by Trujillo s men. Almost consistently, he emerges whenever one of the main characters is in great discord. The faceless man symbolizes the foreshadowing of malicious occurrences caused by Fukú. Fukú is a prevalent theme throughout the novel and is portrayed through the faceless man. The Washington Post speaks of their interview with Diaz and stated, Fuku americanus Diaz explains, is generally a curse or a doom of some kind; specifically the Curse and the Doom of the New World. It seems especially contagious and deadly in the Dominican Republic, where it is believed that the arrival of Europeans on Hispaniola unleashed the Fukú on the world. Stephen struggles with detecting the faults in other people s lives throughout the book Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton. Anticipating people to embody a bad reputation could ruin his relationships with the people he meets. When Stephen, a father and Umfundisi looking for his family, visits his son s girlfriend and his sister in the city of Johannesburg, the conditions they live in shock him and he immediately judges them because he expected to discover something bad and he did. Stephen evinces the redemption cycle through his interactions with Absalom s girlfriend and his sister Gertrude. Stephen sinned against Absalom s girlfriend, a pregnant and soon to be widow, because he tested her to see if she will be loyal to his son and reconciled with her by taking her into his home and raising her as his daughter. When Stephen went to see the girl, he found out that she had three husbands before Absalom. He asked her if she would be willing to sleep with someone else, after she said no he asked, not even...if I desired you? (Paton 146). Immediately after Stephen said this and he realized that he should not have asked her this question because she never had a father figure in her life to teach her that this choice is wrong. Next, 3M of HCl were added drop wise to the solution until it reached a pH of 2, thus introducing the hydronium ion. The final weight of the precipitate was .45 g which was more than the amount that was started with. From this end weight, it can be deduced that there was excess liquid in the end result. Post Lab: 1. The experiment began with a clear solution of sodium benzoate, once 3 M of HCl were added to achieve a pH of 2, the clear solution became a precipitate. Sodium benzoate was water soluble, but the yield of benzoic acid became quite insoluble in water. 3b. Although, a low amount of HCl was used, the waste can still cause health risks and risks to the environment because it was not just one person doing the experiment, therefore increasing the waste of HCl. If you start adding NaOH to the solution in small amounts, NaOH neutralizes part of the HCl, (moles of HCl to moles of NaOH) so the pH begins to increase slowly, this raises the soluability. Just as beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, value is highly dependent upon perspective. Frequently, the analyst will discover that the different perspectives will lead to conflicting definitions of value. But usually its common characteristic is a high level of performance, capability, emotional appeal, style, etc. relative to its cost. This can also be expressed as maximizing the function of a product relative to its cost: Value = (Performance + Capability)/Cost = Function/Cost Value is not a matter of minimizing cost. This is not an absolute rule, but rather an observation of the consumer products market. Few people purchase consumer products based on performance or the lowest cost of basic functions alone. When purchasing a product it is assumed that the basic function is operative. The customer s attention is then directed to those visible secondary support functions, or product features, which determine the worth of the product. From a product design point of view, products that are perceived to have high value first address the basic function s performance and stress the achievement of all of the performance attributes. Once the basic functions are satisfied, the designer s then address the secondary functions necessary to attract customers. Secondary functions are incorporated in the product as features to support and enhance the basic function and help sell the product. The elimination of secondary functions that are not very important to the customer will reduce product cost and increase value without detracting from the worth of the product. The cost contribution of the basic function does not, by itself, establish the value of the product. Few products are sold on the basis of their basic function alone. However, the phenomenon of ethical consumerism in fast fashion is under researched. This study explores current barriers to ethical consumerism in fast fashion. There is a body of research that investigate intention and the actual behavior of ethical minded consumers (Carrington et al. 2010; Beard 2008; Brandstätter et al. 2006; Kim et al. 2013) but not much has been done on ethical consumerism including the driving forces behind consumer behavior in in fast fashion industry. Data for the study was collecting through three focus groups which provided key information on consumer behaviour relating to the garment industry, and in particular Fast Fashion. This research is focused on pre levels of awareness and the key drivers of purchasing behaviour. It raises awareness of ethical issues within fast fashion to a small group of consumers in which most of the consumers indicate a willingness to purchase ethically following the awareness raising exercise. Slut shaming is, the act of making any person feel guilty or inferior for certain sexual behaviors or desires that deviate from traditional or orthodox gender expectations, (Your Dictionary).
