Chapter education and programming is centered on our Pillars of Education, which will encourage members to successfully achieve the standards of
the Five Star Program and provide the foundation for our chapter to make a positive contribution on the campus and local community. Our success in

chapter consultants. These individuals are familiar with the needs of a new chapter as well as how to build a strong infrastructure for lasting success.
In the chapter's infancy, we expect chapter consultants to play a large role in helping the chapter successfully complete the Five Star Program. As the

Loyally (and Royally) If you're like me, your significant other has grown accustomed to most things Kappa. They know the blues of sky and sea are
our favorite color combo. They know we simply can't walk past a fleur–de–lis without pointing it out. They're comfortable sharing a home that may
contain just a few items in owl or key patterns. And their children have been rocked to sleep to "Dream a While of Kappa." On May 19, 2018,
England's Prince Harry joined that special fraternity of Kappa men, inheriting the owl, the key and the fleur–de–lis when he married Meghan Markle,

stateside rendition of "Oh Pat." "It was really fun to pull off with women from seven different chapters since everyone has their own take on it," says
Maria Brown, Valparaiso. More than 30 brunch guests in Corona del Mar, California, wore their best headwear and were "met" at the door by life–size

The Five Imponents Of Alpha Kappa Alpha
In the 1900s, segregation and male dominance were a big part of American Society. African American women were often underestimated as well as
neglected of their respect and authority. Ethel Hedgeman, who was a student at Howard University, believed that it was essential to create an
organization for a group of women who were willing to use their talents and strengths for the benefit of others, but at the same time learn to value and
respect themselves. She envisioned that this group would focus on interaction, encouragement, and ethical growth between the members, and that is
exactly what Alpha Kappa Alpha has done ever since she created it. In 1908, AKA also known as the sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first African
American sorority was created. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha communicate and express their common ideas and goals in their own unique ways.
Alpha Kappa Alphas represent service and culture more than anything. Ever since AKA was founded in 1908, their motto has been "By Culture and
By Merit", and the mission of the sorority goes along with their motto. According to the mission tab of the official AKA website, service to all
mankind, to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, and to alleviate
problems concerning girls and women to maintain a progressive ingress in college life are the five components of Alpha Kappa Alpha's mission to
stand by their motto (Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., Par. 1).

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Discourse
Destiny Campbell Enc 1102 Stuart Dees 14 September 2016 proposal for research: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority discourse Researcher John Swales in
" The Concept of Discourse Community" explains that there are six characteristics that need to be identified for a group of people to be a discourse
community. According to Swales, there are six characteristics that make up a discourse community. They are common public goals, mechanisms of
intercommunication among members, participatory mechanisms to provide information and feedback, utilizing one or more genres in communication,
a specific lexis, and a threshold level of members with a degree of relevant content and discourse expertise (220–222). Discourse is in communities are

With this research I plan to go back to the roots of why sororities use Greek language in their discourse community and how it helps them form a
sisterhood that is shared only amongst the community. Sororities and fraternities are becoming more prevalent in universities all across the nation.
Today, there are over 9 million members of the Greek communities and the number is continuously growing each year ("Greek Life Statistics"). "The
terms 'fraternity' and 'sorority' describe groups of men and women who join together to offer fellowship, academic support, leadership training,
participation in campus activities, service to the community and University, and preparation for future careers" ("What is Greek Life?"). People that
in are the Greek community all have at least one thing in common. Whether they just want to be apart of a sisterhood/brotherhood or deeper things
like they all share a common belief or goal. "Sororities have five basic benefits: sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, philanthropy (charitable causes
/community service), and socializing" ("About Sororities"). These benefits are included in the values and beliefs of a sorority as a discourse
community. Greeks all speak a "language" that they learn in the process of becoming part of their fraternity/sorority(recruitment process). Agendas,
e–mails, and text messages are all forms of a genre. A genre is anything that is written down and shared in the discourse community. Face to face
interaction is a way to advertise for events and also another way to advertise for events is through

8.Policies on academic emphasis and scholarship programs (including those who fall below the minimum GPA)
Each chapter is required to maintain academic standards equal to or higher than the university or college all–sorority average. Therefore, the Kappa

Letter of Interest for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
Dear Ladies of the Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated: I am seeking membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated because I want to grow and contribute my time and talent to an illustrious, originating organization. I aspire to be a part of a sisterhood
where I can express myself, and have my skills nourished by prospering African –American women. This summer I was involved in a traumatic car
accident and survived, tragically two of my dearest friends did not. On the car third spin I squeezed my eyes shut, and braced myself for a
collision. Suddenly, the car jolted forward and flipped. At that very moment I realized that I am here for a greater purpose, and vowed to take the
necessary steps to fulfill that purpose. God is not finished with me yet, and I do not want to sit on my Lord. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority,
Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have
grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta
chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter's events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening
of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of the world girls are

The Kappa Mythology
The idea of monsters lurking in rivers and eating children strikes fear in the eyes of many. The Kappa, otherwise known as the Japanese River
Monster, lies in rivers and ponds in ancient Japan. Many people research the tale of the Kappa and has sparked interest in many explorers over
time. The Kappa is an interesting monster from old folktales or legends. Before research was conducted, many questions arose. Questions that want
to know more about what a Kappa is and where they come from. Research has provided a different view on the tall tale of the Kappa, and provided
numerous reasons to stay away from the deadly creature. From the kidnapping of children to raiding people's gardens, the Kappa further proved its
danger to humans. Despite the name, the Kappa was first spotted in China, then the Kappa moved to Japan. Kappa are most common in the waters in

Another is that the tale was a variation of Sha Wujing ("Sandy", or "Sangojo"/"SagojЕЌ" in Japanese) (explore.com) from a popular chinese novel,

Like NAU, we want to integrate a global focus by instilling the values of integrity and service from the very beginning of a member's Kappa journey.
From day one, members are encouraged to explore leadership roles within their chapters, specifically through the chapter committee structure. Each
member is assigned to a committee, creating a place for her to have a say in chapter operations. This is an opportunity for her to contribute to a
positive chapter environment while developing leadership and decision–making skills.
Committee involvement cultivates future chapter leaders.
Kappa promotes and fosters the leadership abilities of emerging chapter leaders and alumna members through Leadership Academy, an
intergenerational, life–changing retreat that impacts more than 250 women each year. The program is designed to help members recognize their

How Philanthropy Is An Effort Or Act Of Good
IV.RELATIONSHIPS
A.Philanthropy
Philanthropy is an effort or act of good will to help others by performing a direct service to people or organizations or by raising money for a worthy
cause. Philanthropy is an opportunity for all of us to live our Kappa values.
Kappa members believe that philanthropy – or mutual helpfulness – is an important value. Raise awareness of the needs of others by participating in
local campus and community philanthropy events, monetarily contributing to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation and supporting our national partner,
Reading Is Fundamental.
The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation
Every alumnae association is encouraged to make a donation to the Foundation each fiscal year. The Foundation relies on the loyalty and support of
chapters, associations and individual members through contributions to fund Kappa's educational programs, scholarships, financial aid and
preservation of Kappa heritage.
For more information about the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation's programs or how to support them, review the Foundation section of this Alumnae
Association Manual or visit www.kappa.org/foundation.
Reading Is Fundamental
Kappa Kappa Gamma adopted Reading Is Fundamental as our national philanthropy in 2004. RIF's goal is to serve the nation's underserved children
and families through the development and delivery of literacy programs and campaigns that motivate youth to read regularly.
Formed in 1966, RIF's highest priority is reaching underserved children

Kappa Alpha Stereotypes
While going through the process of determining what college to go to many students focus on what majors are provided, location, an overall sense of
the school, and several other things. One thing that is often overlooked is the option of going Greek. Many male students often do not even consider
the option of going Greek because of false pretenses. One common misconception of going Greek is because the members are stereotyped to be party
goers who do not do well in college. This could not be further from the truth. For members of the Kappa Alpha Order, there are several ambitious
standards that must be maintained to stay in the Order. Also, joining Kappa Alpha opens members, both current and former, to several opportunities.
Finally, Kappa Alpha is an Order that holds several beliefs that most southerners have faith in. When someone thinks about a Greek Community they
normally associate it with what they have learned through stereotypes such as the movie Animal House. The members of the fraternity depicted in this
film were not the definition of the ideal college student. They would have parties almost every day along with copious amounts of drinking. Their
grades reflected on this when the main members of the movie were kicked out for not maintaining a high enough grade point average. This movie is
completely fictional. The members of Kappa Alpha are held to an extremely high standard when it comes to academics and behavior. Robi Rini, the

The Kappa
One very interesting man–eating cryptid is the Kappa. This creature can be found in bodies of water all around Japan (mysteriousuniverse.org).
Considered a water imp by folklore, the Kappa is around the same size as a small child and also has a shell on its back. They also have a beak of
some sorts and webbed feet and hands. The identifying feature of a Kappa however is the indentation in the top of its head. Considered a bowl in
lore, it contains the liquid that gives the Kappa its strength. However harmless the Kappa may sound, it is actually quite dangerous. This creature is
known to kill humans as well as molest women. The way that a Kappa kills someone is by pulling them deep into the water and then sucking all of
the blood out of them. Another way that they kill their victims is by sucking out the victim's innards through the anus. In general, Kappas are very
dangerous to be around and find humans to be a tasty snack. Many believe that Kappas do exist and that they are out there and are behind the
unexplained disappearances of many Japanese citizens. In 1818, proof of the Kappa came into exist after one was killed and the remains were

The Five Objectives Of Kappa Alpha Psi
Lorenzo Espada June 7th, 2017 The Five Objectives of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated From a time when achievement was rare, and
succeeding among minority was minuscule, a sense of order was needed. During this time Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated came into the
world, bringing core values and achievement. Within the five objectives Kappa Alpha Psi showcases the distinction of itself from other fraternities.
The founding fathers had the desire to shape a unique group personality different from the other greek letter college organizations, around the idea of
achievement. When achievement was mainly concerned with improvement of personal status, security, and meeting the demands of everyday living
the founders of the fraternity envisioned something bigger. Thus bringing about the Five Objectives that men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity
Incorporated live by and exemplify on a day to day basis showcasing Achievement in every field of human endeavor. The first Objective is perhaps
one of the most important ones, (not taking anything away from any of the other objectives) minds are more powerful together. To unite college men
of culture, patriotism, and honor, in bond of a fraternity. The main thing of this objective comes from the first two words, to unite; come or bring
together for a common purpose or action. Strength is in numbers however quality is always better over quantity, "less is more nigga its plenty of us"

What about intolerance right here, right now? What about stereotypes and judgments made about someone based upon his or her sexual orientation, race, or economic status? They know the blues of sky and sea are our favorite color combo. They know we simply can't walk past a fleur–de–lis without pointing it out. They're comfortable sharing a home that may contain just a few items in owl or key patterns. And their children have been rocked to sleep to "Dream a While of Kappa." On May 19, 2018, England's Prince Harry joined that special fraternity of Kappa men, inheriting the owl, the key and the fleur–de–lis when he married Meghan Markle, Northwestern. And like other Kappa couples, Harry and his bride were treated to a cherished Kappa tradition–the "Oh Pat" serenade–as they exited Windsor Castle by carriage.... Kay Osborne Jessen, Wyoming, served up homemade scones with clotted cream and lemon curd. Candy rings and crowns were available for those whose closets lack a wealth of jewels and tiaras. Meanwhile, the Omaha Alumnae Association held a traditional British cream tea, taking in the royal wedding in their best floral dresses and fascinators while British historian Catherine Medici–Thiemann, Creighton, provided commentary and analysis. At the Pittsburgh home of Brittany Boldt, Tulsa, members noshed on a tasteful spread of tea sandwiches, cookies, tea, and Pimm's cups, performing their own stateside rendition of "Oh Pat." "It was really fun to pull off with women from seven different chapters since everyone has their own take on it," says Maria Brown, Valparaiso. • 12. The Five Imponents Of Alpha Kappa Alpha In the 1900s, segregation and male dominance were a big part of American Society. African American women were often underestimated as well as neglected of their respect and authority. Ethel Hedgeman, who was a student at Howard University, believed that it was essential to create an organization for a group of women who were willing to use their talents and strengths for the benefit of others, but at the same time learn to value and respect themselves. She envisioned that this group would focus on interaction, encouragement, and ethical growth between the members, and that is exactly what Alpha Kappa Alpha has done ever since she created it. In 1908, AKA also known as the sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first African American sorority was created. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha communicate and express their common ideas and goals in their own unique ways. Alpha Kappa Alphas represent service and culture more than anything. Ever since AKA was founded in 1908, their motto has been "By Culture and By Merit", and the mission of the sorority goes along with their motto. According to the mission tab of the official AKA website, service to all mankind, to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, and to alleviate problems concerning girls and women to maintain a progressive ingress in college life are the five components of Alpha Kappa Alpha's mission to stand by their motto (Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., Par. 1). ... According to Swales, there are six characteristics that make up a discourse community. They are common public goals, mechanisms of intercommunication among members, participatory mechanisms to provide information and feedback, utilizing one or more genres in communication, a specific lexis, and a threshold level of members with a degree of relevant content and discourse expertise (220–222). With this research I plan to go back to the roots of why sororities use Greek language in their discourse community and how it helps them form a sisterhood that is shared only amongst the community. Sororities and fraternities are becoming more prevalent in universities all across the nation. Today, there are over 9 million members of the Greek communities and the number is continuously growing each year ("Greek Life Statistics"). "The terms 'fraternity' and 'sorority' describe groups of men and women who join together to offer fellowship, academic support, leadership training, participation in campus activities, service to the community and University, and preparation for future careers" ("What is Greek Life?"). People that in are the Greek community all have at least one thing in common. Whether they just want to be apart of a sisterhood/brotherhood or deeper things like they all share a common belief or goal. "Sororities have five basic benefits: sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, philanthropy (charitable causes /community service), and socializing" ("About Sororities"). These benefits are included in the values and beliefs of a sorority as a discourse community. Greeks all speak a "language" that they learn in the process of becoming part of their fraternity/sorority(recruitment process). Agendas, e–mails, and text messages are all forms of a genre. Letter of Interest for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Dear Ladies of the Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated: I am seeking membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated because I want to grow and contribute my time and talent to an illustrious, originating organization. I aspire to be a part of a sisterhood where I can express myself, and have my skills nourished by prospering African –American women. This summer I was involved in a traumatic car accident and survived, tragically two of my dearest friends did not. On the car third spin I squeezed my eyes shut, and braced myself for a collision. Suddenly, the car jolted forward and flipped. At that very moment I realized that I am here for a greater purpose, and vowed to take the necessary steps to fulfill that purpose. God is not finished with me yet, and I do not want to sit on my Lord. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter's events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. The event should not encourage excessive drinking or be focused on alcohol. Ensure events are in line with Kappa's Risk Management Procedures. Remember that senior bar crawls are not Kappa–sanctioned events and should not be allowed. It then follows that this type of event should not have Kappa–related T–shirts. • 34. Kappa Alpha Stereotypes While going through the process of determining what college to go to many students focus on what majors are provided, location, an overall sense of the school, and several other things. One thing that is often overlooked is the option of going Greek. Many male students often do not even consider the option of going Greek because of false pretenses. One common misconception of going Greek is because the members are stereotyped to be party goers who do not do well in college. This could not be further from the truth. For members of the Kappa Alpha Order, there are several ambitious standards that must be maintained to stay in the Order. Also, joining Kappa Alpha opens members, both current and former, to several opportunities. Finally, Kappa Alpha is an Order that holds several beliefs that most southerners have faith in. When someone thinks about a Greek Community they normally associate it with what they have learned through stereotypes such as the movie Animal House. The members of the fraternity depicted in this film were not the definition of the ideal college student. They would have parties almost every day along with copious amounts of drinking. Their grades reflected on this when the main members of the movie were kicked out for not maintaining a high enough grade point average. This movie is completely fictional. The members of Kappa Alpha are held to an extremely high standard when it comes to academics and behavior. Robi Rini, the Corresponding Secretary of Kappa ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Kappa One very interesting man–eating cryptid is the Kappa. This creature can be found in bodies of water all around Japan (mysteriousuniverse.org). Considered a water imp by folklore, the Kappa is around the same size as a small child and also has a shell on its back. They also have a beak of some sorts and webbed feet and hands. The identifying feature of a Kappa however is the indentation in the top of its head. Considered a bowl in lore, it contains the liquid that gives the Kappa its strength. However harmless the Kappa may sound, it is actually quite dangerous. This creature is known to kill humans as well as molest women. The way that a Kappa kills someone is by pulling them deep into the water and then sucking all of the blood out of them. Another way that they kill their victims is by sucking out the victim's innards through the anus. In general, Kappas are very dangerous to be around and find humans to be a tasty snack.
