Marketing Plan For Fast Food Industry
America has been encountering many different types of cultures since it was first founded. These
distinct types of cultures lead to the development of various types of food options. Since the last three
decades of the twentieth century, fast food productions stood out to be the top meal choice. The reason
for this expansion of encounters with fast food has to deal with the American desire to gain more
material wealth and become more prosperous which is crucial when the nation is in an economic
depression. Americans expanded their encounters with fast foods to help the nation acquire the wealth
that it desperately needs by means of franchising, advertising, and processing of food.
A strategy that the Americans use when they seek to get out of this economic depression is
Franchising. Franchising became the top choice that America has went to because of its vast potential
in money making. Franchising acquired its popularity by establishing a common method of service
which gave customers the comfort that they look for when they look for a meal. The mother company
surveys its baby companies to make sure that they are performing at the accepted standards. For this
purpose the mother company is willing to give out training at Hamburger University to teach their
workers the proper way to serve and obtain more consumers. When the customers go out to get their
meals, they are going for something that they are familiar with. Although this approach lacked variety,

How Is Catherine The Great Controlled Russia
Catherine the Great also known as Catherine II, (who was the most longest ruling female in Russia)
had ruled Russia form 1762 to 1796. During her time in throne, Catherine had made Russia a more
developed country in many different aspects. Catherine the Great had effected nobility, peasantry,
military, religion and taxes / government spendings. She controlled all of these aspects of Russia and
these are the main reason why she is the absolute monarch.
Like i said Catherine controlled Russia nobility. Nobles were a class of people with high political
static and Catherine the Great had power over them. When Catherine was in throne the nobles called it
the Golden age of Russian nobility, this is because Catherine the great authorized a new law that
would free the nobles form compulsory military. She not only did that, she build many mansions for
them (and there were designed in western designs due to that that was the main style back then).
Finally Catherine wrote manuals for the education for the young noble girls and she also assigned a
charter to the nobles. As you can see Catherine s relations with the noble is strong and you see how
much control over she as on them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Catherine the great wan t much of a fan of peasants, intact in 1766 she declared that peasants should
not get paid and have a one meal plan a day, of course this was then reenforced by the nobles

take part. Catherine the great thought of peasant as you would think of pawns in a chess

Persuasive Essay On Being An Adult
When do you actually become an adult? There are legal terms that qualify someone as an adult, but
that doesn t necessarily mean that they act like one. I think being an adult means, being able to support
yourself; as in having a steady paying job, and most importantly being accountable to yourself. Being
able to make your own decisions without asking a parent or model figure first, is an example of having
an identity status of a moratorium. One with this type of mindset as a young adult, will weigh their
options and consider their values and what they believe themselves, whether it s their own thought
branched off of their parents guidance, or it is completely their own idea and they explore to see what
their views are. On the other hand, for some, they rely on their parents approval, they may have an
idea or opinion about a topic, but they will ask a parent or model figure in their life to seek guidance.
The young adult wants the security of having the approval of a decision and being told what to do and
pointed what direction to go towards. This is essentially making the decision for them. This type of
identity status if called foreclosure.
At a very young age, I was given the responsibility to take care of my youngest sister after school. I
had to help her with her homework, make dinner for us both and put her to bed some days; and on top
of that do my own homework and get my chores done. Both of my parents worked full time and I felt
that I had the responsibility as a

Pope Francis Influence On Religion
Pope Francis was influenced by the Theology of Liberation, by Gustavo Gutierrez, in his upbringing
as a priest and that has inspired him to implement those ideas in his reign as a pope in becoming a
more relatable figure of the Catholic Church for both Catholics and non Catholics.
Liberation Theology was a movement started in Latin America by a Peruvian Priest named Gustavo
Gutierrez, which supported the idea of interpreting the canon law of the Catholic Church for the
perspective of the poor. This, however, went against the top down hierarchical structure of the
Catholic Church. It was seen as a western grass roots movement to change the Church s way of
functioning and was generally ignored. Pope Francis, however, was influenced by the ... Show more

The media loves this because they now have positive things to say about the Pope and Catholic
Church that has been riddled with controversy after controversy beginning with the Vatican Leaks
scandal. The media portrays him in a very positive light due to his liberal stances on controversial
topics. However, they do not hesitate to point out that he is still indeed the Pope and the head of the
Catholic Church and that no matter how cool he may come off, he still is in charge of a strict and
regulated religious institution. In an article by Vox regarding the Pope s stance on Global warming, it
was mentioned that he was deeply critical of both our technological mindset and modernity s
utilitarian propensities. This means that even though he supports technology, he does not trust the way
that people implement it into their daily lives. In another article by Vice, they write that while the pope
may have a twitter, he has not watched television in 25 years. The media will show the pope in a
positive light saying that he is at least trying to connect with the youth, as they are our future, but the
media also tells us that we are not to be fooled. The Pope is still the head of the Catholic Church and
will maintain to preach Catholic teachings; the only difference is that he is endorsing a more liberal
approach to running the Catholic

ABSTRACT
Observed meteorological data collected by two different types of automatic weather stations (AWS)
were statistically analysed in order to verify if there were a difference in the measurements due to the
different sensor types. The hypothesis is that the different types of AWS s will not be statistically
different. Data from January 2014 to February 2016 for six places in South Africa were analysed.
Significant differences were observed for rainfall totals, temperatures and wind speeds by using the
Wilcoxon Mann Whitney test.
1. Introduction
The objective of this study was to compare observed rainfall amounts, maximum air temperature,
minimum air temperature and maximum wind speeds at daily periods from two different types of
automatic weather stations. An automatic weather station (AWS) is defined by the WMO (1992a) as a
meteorological station where observations are made and from which the data is transmitted
automatically. The AWS was designed to accurately measure and record standard meteorological
variables. The design of AWS s may vary from measurement rates, methods on how the data is
retrieved or the intervals of when the data is reported (Tanner, 1990).
All functional AWS s must consist of certain specific features. These

A Research On Human And Animal Studies
My dissertation research has provided successful evidence of non pharmacological approach to
personal precision medicine. Human and animal studies both in vitro and in vivo have provided
potential mechanotransduction pathways underlying bone regeneration and remodeling. The relation
of profiling gene expression between human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) and
macrophages provides profound understandings of bone homeostasis starting in bone marrow niches.
The use of two photon confocal microscope has provided visual evidence on mechanical
modifications under the low intensity vibration measured by atomic force microscope. The RNA
interference technique of knocking down biogenes has confirmed the possibility of the
mechanotransduction pathway involving cellular interactions of physical structures inside the cell and
nucleus. My successful pathway has shown that the orientation of cytoskeleton controls the
programmable differentiation fates of multipotent human bone marrow and adipose derived MSCs.
These results could lead to a novel treatment of osteoporosis and diabetic patients using stem cell
precision medicine.
My several research on the regenerative cardiovasculatures using hUVECs on biosynthetic fibrinogen
and the Penn State artificial heart using hCSCs on biomedical segmented polyurethanes has been
successful in providing alternative potentials for patients with severe heart diseases. Biological

Bill Of Rights Definition
The Bill of Rights was written by James Madison and was ratified in December 15, 1791. The Bill of
Rights was created because the colonies didn t want a constitution without a Bill of Rights because
they were afraid that the government would become too powerful and they would not have rights. In
June 8, 1789, James Madison proposed the Bill of Rights to the House of Representatives and they
approved 17 amendments, and in September 25, 1789 congressed approved ratification for 12
amendments. After congress ratified the amendments they sent it to the colonies so they could ratify
the bill as well. Finally on December 15, 1791 the colonies ratified only 10 of the 12 amendments and
the bill became part of the U.S. Constitution. Creation of The ... Show more content on

This is the Ninth Amendment and it is very short, it just let us know that there are other rights that
may exist besides the ones mentioned, and even though they are not listed, it does not mean they can
be violated. The Ninth Amendment is now mainly used to stop the government from expanding their
power. The last amendment in the Bill of Rights is the Tenth Amendment. This amendment states, The
powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are
reserved to the states respectively, or to the people, (The Bill of Rights Institute, 2016). This
amendment basically says that any power that is not given to the federal government is given to the
people or the states. The Bill of Rights Today The Bill of Rights has made a huge impact in American
s lives. Thanks to the Bill of Rights everyone s unalienable rights are protected and the government

What does a pair of shoes have to do with sex? Absolutely nothing, but take one look at a popular
magazine and the media makes it crystal clear that they will use sex to sell just about any product.
From jewelry to cleaning supplies, the media promotes a tarnished view of femininity to sell their
products. Every day in America, women get bombarded with thousands of advertisements that
promote popular culture s unrealistic views of femininity; images of beautiful, submissive, sexual, and
virtually flawless women. Advertisements tell women what they should look like and if they do not

She has smooth skin, a lean muscular body, and large breasts. Her long wavy blonde hair flows over
her tan body, while her blue eyes gaze towards the man and the running shoe on the other page. Her
body appears nearly flawless, from her long acrylic nails to her perfectly straight teeth. She wears a
sexy leopard print triangle top and bikini bottom which leaves little to the imagination. The woman
portrays a very feminine image. Her body posture gives a sense of vulnerability and her lack of eye
contact conveys passiveness. Her overall look demonstrates a strong image of sexuality. This
advertisement offers the consumer the idea that when he buys Avia?s new shoes and goes for a run in
them, he will come home to find a gorgeous woman waiting on the couch for them. The man that
purchases these shoes views the attractive woman in this advertisement as a sexual prize. As Jean
Kilbourne explains in her video, Still Killing Us Softly 3, the woman no longer appears as a subject,
but an object that comes with the product. Consumers, and society in general, may dismiss this
advertisement as a ridiculous equation of A+B=C, but subconsciously, they internalize what they have
seen and make everyday assumptions about femininity with it.

The Position Of Proventus Capital Partners
The position of Proventus Capital Partners (PCP) as a bondholder of Corral Petroleum AB bond was
difficult. Even though PCP s holding of Preem notes was only about 1% of the total par amount, but
they had invested approximately $7million in dollar and euro denominated bonds at around 60% of
par. PCP felt there was considerable upside in this position. However, PCP had been aware of the risks
when acquiring the bonds in the weak operating performance of the oil refining such as the low oil
price, excess capacity and the high leverage of Preem compare to many firms in the industry. PCP was
considered the long performance of the firm in the future because Preem was more profitable than
many of its peers. The economic turmoil that affected oil price was created conflict of interest between
bondholders and syndicated banks as creditors. For instance, Corral was unable to make coupon
payment because Preem was now disallowed from transferring profit to Corral. If each party insists on
taking their own advantage to save their assets and avoid loss, there was one party loss in their
investment in Corral and Preem. Alternatively, all parties included the owner might draw an
agreement that provides win win solution to all parties. Several possible scenarios that PCP had to
consider were: a. Complete or partial sale of assets. The sale of some Preem s assets might generate
immediate cash. But, the uniqueness of business makes uncertainty in pricing and buyer in the
economic downturn.

The Delivery Of Law Enforcement
Law enforcement agencies could face severe budget cuts if the nation s economy struggles and local
tax revenues drop. The consequences of spending cuts may cost layoffs, reduced services, shuttered
public facilities and badly needed infrastructure improvements pushed back even further (Tameez,
2014). The delivery of law enforcement services will fundamentally change as a result of severe
budget cuts. Hundreds of officers in a single police department could be laid off, which means there
will be fewer officers to respond to calls for service. In similar views, federal agencies must also have
a strategic fiscal budget plan in order to deliver their services efficiently and promptly.
Information sharing between the intelligence community and local law enforcement is crucial during
catastrophic events such as terrorist attacks, natural and man made disasters. When Hurricane Katrina
made landfall in late August of 2005, its destruction caused many deaths and disruption to the
economy. Houston felt Katrina s impact, but we were not badly hit as New Orleans. Many lessons
were learned from Hurricane Katrina and one such example where poor communication and lack of
information sharing between the federal, state and city law enforcements. It is believed that all levels
of government weren t prepared for a catastrophic incident like Katrina. There were lack of planning
and coordination; overlapping of rescue teams was dispatched to the same location while leaving

Chivalry In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Chivalry In medieval romances there is a hero knight, this hero knight prides himself on being
chivalrous. Chivalry is the overall code of being respectful, religious, and morally right. Some believe
chivalry is dead in our society, but I believe it has just been evolved for modern day life. In Sir
Gawain and the Green Knight , the author pokes fun at the court s values of chivalry. During the
second half of the 14th century, when the story takes place, chivalry dictates their ranks and their
everyday life. Chivalry in the 14th century was based on religion and honoring everyone. A knight that
is chivalrous would be religious, protect the weak and defenseless, to live by honer and for glory, to
guard the honor of all other knights, to always tell the truth and to be respectful of women. The Green
knight takes three swings at Sir Gawain, the first because the knight was of Lighthearted sport (line
324), this meant that he was only swinging because of their deal. The second swing was for the two
kisses he received from the green knight s wife. He received the third and final stroke because he did
not give the Lord the last gift, the sash. This sash made it so whoever was wearing could not be killed
under any circumstance. This is how the green knight could walk off just fine after getting his head
chopped off. After the third stroke the green knight said to sir gawain: So Gawain indeed stands out
above all other nights. / but you lack of little, sir; you were less than

The Namesake Belonging Quotes
Moving around can be difficult for many people with new neighborhoods, new people, and new
atmospheres. Alienation is an unavoidable aspect of modern life. There are a variety of ways to
accommodate people in new places such as community gatherings and public events such as parades,
festivities, and nearby school events. However, it becomes complicated when there are language
barriers, cultural differences and internal belonging. Many immigrants are haunted by the sense of
alienation when arriving in a new country, no matter how many obstacles they happen to overcome.
Not only does it take a toll on relationships, but on internal struggles on what it means to come from,
call home, and belong. To this present day, many people looking for new life in America have to face
an overwhelming amount of difficulties in an attempt to create a comfortable life. Yet their sense of
belonging will ultimately never feel real, and that struggle and last more than one lifetime. In the

Nietzsche s Contradictory Concept Of Freedom
The concept of freedom is contradictory in the Genealogy of Morals: for Nietzsche, true freedom will
occur when every individual can live according to their true nature; however, this version of freedom
would allow the strong to easily enslave the weak, negating any possibility of true freedom for an
entire society. Thus, any theory of morality that seeks to explain this concept of freedom must be able
to reconcile the contradiction it produces. Gandhi s Hind Swaraj comes close to being able to resolve
Nietzsche s contradictory concept of freedom, but applying Gandhi in this way highlights his own
difficulty situating freedom within his theory of home rule. With close analysis of passages from
Nietzsche s On the Genealogy of Morals and Gandhi s Hind Swaraj, the reader discovers that,
according to how one defines freedom, he or she will perceive an individual who they believe to be
truly free as having achieved moral perfection.

As aforementioned, in Nietzsche s ideal society in which all are free to live according to their natures,
the strong would quickly enslave the weak. Adding Gandhi s path to freedom to Nietzsche s ideal
moral code equation would resolve the complications it produces because of Gandhi s association with
the weak. Gandhi claims that every reform must be preceded by discontent (23). In order for the weak
to commence their journey to becoming passive resisters, they must first experience unrest. Similarly,
Nietzsche believes that slave morality always first needs a hostile external world (37); and, his ideal
moral code produces this hostile environment that will generate unrest within the weak. However,
instead of seeking to change the moral code as they have done in the past, the weak would begin to

Code of Conduct in the Workplace
What do we think about when we hear the words code of conduct? There will be a lot of difference of
opinions from different individuals, but I think it is basically what an organization expects from its
members. Almost every organization, whether it be a Fortune 500 company, a small restaurant chain,
bar, or even a fraternal order, they all have expectations of how each of its members or employees
should act among each other and when dealing with customers outside the organization. Most of these
principles will be set forth by an organization in their Code of Conduct which will most likely have to
be reviewed and signed by you before becoming an employee of the company. Most organizations will
impose some type of penalty for those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are most definitely significant because under federal law, they must implement these into their
normal daily business practices. All employees must understand them and acknowledge them by
usually singing a written statement that goes on file in their employment record. Chipotle like most
organizations prohibits unlawful discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment in the workplace.
And in most places, if an employee is found to have participated in one of these acts, they will be
disciplined up to and including termination from the organization. Chipotle believes that abiding by
these rules and values due to the fact that they make good business sense and are most definitely the
right things to do!
Most organizations will tell you it is hard to ensure that employees are following the code of conduct
without relying on word from someone that might have witnessed the violation. In the case of
Chipotle, they could install cameras in their restaurants to help monitor the day to day activity of their
employees. They could offer the employees surveys to see how the management team is doing around
them and ask them certain questions about the code of conduct policies to see if they feel someone is
in violation of them. It is hard in a business of fast food to always watch each employee and how they
act around each other and the customers. The managers and

Robert Boyle s Discovery Of The Charcoal, Graphite, And...
Dating to the prehistoric times, carbon have already been founded as the charcoal by Egyptians and
Sumerians. The founder s name is still unknown. Carbon s name comes from its Latin name carbo
which means burnt wood. Although, the use of carbon was from a very early time, people never see it
as an element until Robert Boyle s discovery in seventeenth century. Carbon occurs naturally as many
forms included anthracite, graphite, and diamond. Charcoal and soot were more prevalent in history
and diamond was much more difficult to identify. Giuseppe Averani and Cipriano Targioni were the
first people who discovered that diamond could be destroyed by heating. In 1694, they made the
diamond disappeared just by using a gem and a large magnifying glass to focus the sunlight to the
diamond. In 1772, Antoine Lavoisier showed that diamonds are a form of carbon because when he
burned the samples of charcoal and diamond, they didn t produce any water and they both released the
same amount of carbon dioxide per gram.
In 1779, Carl Wilhelm Scheele showed another allotrope of carbon graphite, which were known as a
form of lead in early times. He found out that graphite was almost identical to charcoal except a small
admixture of iron, and when it oxidized with nitric acid, it gave out aerial acid (carbon dioxide). In
1786, the French scientists Claude Louis Berthollet, Gaspard Monge and Vandermonde confirmed that
graphite was mostly carbon by oxidizing with oxygen in the same way

The Structure And Design Of Organizations
The structure and design of organizations have drastically changed over the last twenty five years.
Organizations develop new goals at the beginning of the year or after the completion of previous
goals, and heavily depend on planning to help achieve these goals. Planning is an integral part of
organizational success, as upper management receives substantial information on various needs such
as risk uncertainty, available resources, employee development, and unforeseen changes in technology
(Daft, 2013). Most importantly, successful planning allows management to make effective decisions
when unforeseen events arise within the organization. Not participating in planning is equivalent to

Organizations must not overlook the environmental factors that are outside of the organization, as they
can leave a detrimental imprint on the organization and their attempts to achieve various goals.
According to the textbook, Domain defines the organization s niche and defines those external sectors
with which the organization will interact to accomplish its goals (Daft, 2013, p. 142). Some of the
external sectors include human resources, technology, economic conditions, and financial resources
(Daft, 2013). Changing the organization s domain is a feasible strategy for coping with a threatening
environment because it allows the organization to remain competitive when the market changes.
Organizations are constantly shifting and doing so in a rapid manner, which makes it even more likely
for organizations to become unstable if action is not taken when threating environmental factors occur.
Although the process may be difficult, organizations should look into changing the domain to keep up
with the speed and volatility of the market. Mergers and acquisitions are two plausible options for
organizations to partake in to reduce uncertainty (Daft, 2013). An organization can either purchase an
organization to further their operations or merge with another organization to form a more powerful
and dynamic organization. For example, Sirius and XM Radio were rivals back in the day, but merged
together to provide consumers with Sirius and XM Radio for their vehicles.

Inequalities, Both Domestic and Global, Illuminate the...
2. Inequalities, both domestic and global, illuminate the inevitability and functionality of stratification.
Discuss.
The Cambridge Dictionary of Sociology defines inequality as the unequal distribution of
opportunities, rewards, and power among and between individuals, households and groups (1). It goes
on to say that the subfield of social stratification has as its main task the description and analysis of
inequalities, or the makeup of the stratification system of any given society .(1) From this one
definition, we can already begin to see the strong links that lie between inequalities and social
stratification. As we delve deeper into the topics, we can begin to see both the inevitability and the
functionality of stratification ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Central African Republic, the infant mortality rate is 107 per 1,000(6). That means that an infant
born in Norway has a 10 per cent higher chance of survival than an infant born in the Central African
Republic. Even in the first few days after birth, inequalities exist between the lives of infants born in
developed countries and the lives of infants born in underdeveloped countries. Furthermore, the life
expectancy at birth of a child born in Norway is 81.1 (5) years, whereas in the Central African
Republic, the life expectancy at birth is 48.4 years (5). Again, inequalities exist between the infants
born in developed countries and the infants born in developed countries. Although the Central African
Republic has a high rate of infant mortality as well as a high death rate 17.6 per 1,000 in the years
2005 2010(7), it also has a very high birth rate 35.6 per 1,000 in the years 2005 2010 (8). This has lead
to a very high population, which puts a huge strain on the resources of the country. Norway on the
other hand, has a much steadier population, with a low birth rate 12.6 per 1,000 in the years 2005 2010
(8) but also a low death rate 8.8 per 1,000 in the years 2005 2010 (7). The population is controlled and
their are enough resources to serve the entire population. It is for this reason that Norwegians
generally receive an average of 12.6 years of schooling (5). Contrast this with the Central African

Case Study Of Supervalu Incorporation
Supervalu Incorporation is one of the largest grocery stores in the United States with more than 2,400
stores, among these stores the corporation also outsources to third parties which are not named in this
discussion (Edmonds, Tsay Old, 2011). However, grocery stories that are the best known that are in
house under the ownership of Supervalu are as followed; Albertson, Farm Fresh, Jewel Osco and Save
a lot (Edmonds, Tsay, Old, 2011). On January 12th, 2010 Supervalu made the decision to reduce items
from their present time inventory. The reduction would reduce the cost of production by 25% from the
last segment production earnings of 240,000 (Edmonds, Tsay Old, 2011). In this discussion, we will
try to deduce the effect and impact that will result in Supervalu decision to reduce or eliminate an item
from their inventory (Edmonds, Tsay Old, 2011).

new machine (Edmonds, Tsay Old, 2011). Which bring into focus fixed assets, the equipment in use

managers to account for cost accordingly to a process cost system (Edmonds, Tsay Old, 2011). This

Education And Success Levels Of All Students On Their Campus
Introduction and Background The main idea of ELCC Standard One is the role the administrator takes
to influence the education and success levels of all students on their campus. It is imperative the
administrator works with all stakeholders to help facilitate the development, articulation, and
implementation of a vision that everyone can agree on. The principal must embrace and support their
vision before they can expect others to share their vision. It is important for the administrator to build
relationships with the staff and community before they expect their vision to be excepted. They need
to not only tell they community and staff their vision, but they must lead their stakeholders to

When talking about student achievement at Bernal Middle School Mr. Mendez stated the struggling
students were in the special education program. One way Bernal is trying to reach the parents of these
students is by newsletters, phone calls and meetings that discuss our special education programs.
Recently, the school created an outreach program that showed parents of special education student our
collaborative model of learning. The parents were invited by phone, email and newsletter to attend a
meeting that focused on the achievement of their student. The meeting introduced them to the learning
techniques that were being showcased in a collaborative model classroom. The program was not as
successful as intended but more than twenty five parents attended and were able to share this vision
with the school.

Hitman s Body Guard Essay
The Hitman s Body Guard is the best movie to watch, unless you are boring and simple. Probably the
name of the movie does not get you exited and you think this movie is going to disappoint you. I m
saying this because that was my thought as well. Until one night I had nothing to do and I decided to
give this movie the benefit of the doubt. After the movie was over I was amazed on how much better
this film made my night. In my opinion, this movie is among the best action/comedy movies I seen.
What makes this movie one of the best? Well the cast is tremendously astonishing. The main actors or

Darius. In their adventure they both teach each other valuable lessons in a humors way. In their
adventure they show how much they dislike each other. But they eventually learn to tolerate each

Shaping American Identity Essay

US History, 3

American identity has been continuously changing over the past century. This is due to many factors
such as expansion, migration, and immigration. The migration of people has helped create an
American identity. During three periods of history, significant changes happened that helped frame
who Americans are. The colonization of the Americas has shaped the American identity in many ways.
When the first white English speaking colonists came over to settle in Jamestown, their main goal was
profit. This tradition of profit has carried on for centuries after. After Jamestown, Protestant colonists
came over, their main goals were to find religious freedom and to spread the word of their god. Now,
53% of Americans are Protestant and missionary work is still in effect today all over the Americas.
Chattel slavery shaped the class system for the next generations and contributed to the idea that
America benefits off of other people s hard work. Not only did colonization shape the American
identity, but migration within the United States did as well. Religion is a major part of the ... Show

The Adaptive Voice
The Adaptive Voice Our actions are what define us as humans. Words are part of our actions.
Therefore, our voice defines who we are, so when we change our voice we change the fabric of who
we are. Zadie Smith, the author of Speaking in Tongues , knows this first hand when she moved from
a working class district of London to Cambridge. She felt that she was able to have both, the
Cambridge voice and the Willesden voice, and use them to expand her base of knowledge; like
learning a new language. However, as she became more engrossed in her studies the core of her
personality that kept her at her roots disappeared and she was consumed by the Cambridge life style.
She lost herself in Cambridge because she was imitating the Cambridge life style and according to
Susan Blackmore s essay Strange Creatures humans imitate naturally to learn. As humans imitate they
change and because they change, their voices change as well; building an idea within us that our
voices need to be unified, or singular. When we change voices we change mindsets making it
incredibly difficult to switch between two mindsets on a whim. Our voices must be singular in order
for us to correctly display our identity to the world. When you pick up a new meme it is like learning a
new language, it requires flexibility. Zadie Smith says flexibility is something that requires work if it
is to be maintained (Smith 248). This is something that can be said about all forms of learning.

Celebrates Ovid In The Legend Of Philomela

How Geoffrey Chaucer Translates Ovid in The Legend of Philomela There have been many different
translations of Ovid s Metamorphoses over the years such as Ted Hughes Creation: Four Ages; Flood;
Lyacon, A.D. Melville s Tereus, Procne, Philomela, and Geoffrey Chaucer s The Legend of Philomela,
each being more different than the last. Geoffrey Chaucer s The Legend of Philomela translates Ovid
by shifting the perspective of the story from Tereus to Philomela while making her the protagonist.
Chaucer s translation gives the reader the idea that he is much more sympathetic towards women, is

In Kline s version, there are many allusions to Greek gods and mythology such as Titan, the
Eumenides, the Furies, and the River Styx. It makes sense for Ovid to reference these ancient Greek
gods and mythological creatures because the audience he was writing to may have believed in Greek
mythology and its teachings when he wrote The Metamorphoses in 8 AD. However, in Chaucer s
work, a Christian God is mentioned several times as well as Greek gods and mythology, such as Juno
and Bacchus temple. Chaucer mentions God in his translation to appeal to the audience he was writing
to in the 14th century which was most likely a predominately Christian population but keeps some of
the original Greek mythological ties so the myth of Philomela still parallels Ovid s original

Heroin use has been on the rise for the past three years in the United States. The available evidence
points to only one outcome, and that is that the United States is participating in the production and
distribution of heroin and is therefore directly responsible for the rise in heroin use. Why else would
the FDA approve a heroin overdose kit to be sold in the markets? The fact of the matter is that the
government is aiding in addiction, has completely made up the war on drugs, and is operating on some
sort of hidden agenda. The CIA had a plane flying over the U.S./Mexican border that crashed. Among
the debris at the crash site was several kilos of cocaine. How odd is it that the CIA would be

Disadvantages Of Police Discretion
Assignment 2 Discretion can be defined as the availability of choice of options or actions. We all use
discretion each and every day with all the decisions we make in our day to day lives. With that being
said police also use discretion but theirs have the ability to change people s lives on the daily basis.
They have to make those decisions each and every day not knowing how it will affect the person s life.
Discretion is something that is a very necessary part of police work. One of the reason it is mainly
exercised is because of all the vague and ill defined laws that we have in our country. Although most
instances when police discretion is being used the violations are minor. Another why police discretion
is much needed is because if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

he said. He s already short on money, can t afford formula, so me making him appear in court, he s
still not going to have any food for that baby. To me that was an excellent example of discretion used
with restraint and not only did he not arrest the man he actually bought him the formula and informed
him about how he could get help to get things like that. I feel like that would be totally wrong to arrest
someone for committing that crime. The officer also said I think when [a lot of people] look at us, they

uniform, I m a human being and I m a person out in this community just like any of them. I have a

Ecocide In Aranyak-Of The Forest-An Ecocide
Aranyak Of the Forest An Ecocide: The term ecocide refers to extensive damage done to the
ecosystem of a territory due to human atrocities or to such an extent that the normal living of the
inhabitants is severely disturbed ( Ecosophy Wikipedia , 2017). Human nature is essentially
anthropocentric which assumes the primacy of man over other organisms in the environment. We are
committing ecocide by deforestation of a land, burning fossil fuel, emitting green house gases from
the industrial hubs, by exploiting natural ecocritical understanding of Aranyak Of the Forest (1976) in
the light of ecocide. Ecocriticism is best exhibited in Aranyak Of the Forest where the protagonist
Satyacharan, a city dweller gets hypnotized by nature. Initially urban lifestyle revolted against the
loneliness of the forest. He has been sent to the forest as an estate manager to clear up a forest land of
30 thousand bighas. But as the novel progresses he fell madly in love with nature. The novel is told in
the manner of a reverie which ever haunts his imagination. It is a good example of an ecocide. The

The Intellectual Roots Of Modern Day Environmentalism
Many people today do not understand or appreciate the lasting effects that the environmental
movement of the 1960s brought to our world. The things that most people immediately associate with
the 1960s usually include the Civil Rights movement, Vietnam, the space race, student protests and the
hippie generation, underscoring the fact that the environmental movement is often put aside relative
these seemingly more iconic symbols of this decade. The 1960s certainly did not mark the first time
that efforts were made in the United States to change attitudes, policies, and views regarding the
environment. Many trace the intellectual roots of modern day environmentalism all the way back to
the 19th century American writers and philosophers Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau,
most notably the latter s 1854 work, Walden. President Theodore Roosevelt set aside more public land
for national parks than all of his predecessors combined. His policies and views about conservation
remained dominate for decades (nps.org). The efforts made by these figures in the mid 1800s through
the early part of the 20th century were crucial for paving the way for what would come in later years.
The main reason for such progress in the environmental movement in the 1960s is because of
influential leaders, the prominent role of media, and a generation of people who were not afraid to
initiate change.
Influential figures in the 1960s were the first ones to bring to light the urgency of the

Schlieffen Pl War Against France And Russia
The Schlieffen Plan was the German s plan for war against France and Russia. It was created by
Alfred von Schlieffen who was the German Chief of Staff in 1903 on the request of Kaiser Wilhelm II
and it was later revised in 1905. The reason it was made was because Germany s unification came
later than other European states. So the Kaiser sought out Schlieffen and directed him to devise a plan
that would allow Germany to gain power and assert itself as a dominant state. Since France and Russia
were in an alliance Germany was not able to just attack one country. They would be forced to fight
both countries in a two front war. Schlieffen concluded that it would take Russia six weeks to mobilize
while France and Germany could both be prepared for battle within fifteen days.
Schlieffen believed that if France could be conquered in that short of a time period that German troops
could then be moved to a new front against Russia. If Germany had a quick victory over France it
would allow them to have sequential fighting and not simultaneous fighting. To accelerate the transfer
of troops between future fronts Schlieffen advised the Kaiser to build railroads. After figuring out
what to do with France and Russia Schlieffen focused on Great Britain s role in any European conflict.

When he tries to express his sexuality towards her, she brushes him off, which further enforces the
idea that the free blacks are over sexualized. The biggest sense of loyalty from Mammy we see is
when she tries to protect her master from union soldiers arresting him for being in the Ku Klux Klan.
Gus, the Union Solider, seems to be best associated with brute and coon tendencies, which is
characterized by his sexuality towards Flora. The union soldiers in general represent the brutal buck
character type because they are seen as violent, uncontrollable and sexualized in the film. Gus, also
has coon tendencies, however, in the way his character expresses himself. His eyes are very big and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Intellectual Property Rights
Intellectual property rights are a bundle of exclusive legal rights over creations of the mind, both
artistic and commercial. These rights give statutory expression to the moral and economic rights of
creators in their creations. Intellectual property rights safeguard creators and other producers of

Snow s Day In London Chapter Summary
The story takes place during an epidemic outbreak that spread rapidly as well as vigorously. Steven
Johnson begins the book in London during the nineteenth century (1854). The book discusses the
contaminated conditions in England. More than two million people were living within a 10 mile
radius. In particular, he starts by painting a picture of the lower class. He calls them rag gatherers,
deredgermen, bone pickers, myud larks, night soil men, and more. The main character in the story is a
man named Dr. John Snow. While everyone is convinced that people are dying because of the terrible
smell, Snow spends his time trying to prove that the smell isn t what s killed people. He didn t know it
at first, but research and proof supporting his research proved time and time again that it was a bigger
deal than smell. In his book, Johnson says, Great breakthroughs are closer to what happens in a
floodplain: a dozen separate tributaries converge, and the rising waters lift the genius high enough that
he or she can see around the conceptual obstructions of the age. (pg. 149). His belief was that cholera,
a disease commonly spread through water is what s causing all the deaths. Johnson gives the reader a
view of Snow s day to day efforts of proving himself. And although, Dr. Snow played a colossal part
in this story, Reverend Henry Whitehead, whose expanded knowledge of the ... Show more content on

One of its biggest strength was the way the author used his great sense of imagery to create depictions
of life in 1854. The book had many descriptions for the places and people. And the author never failed
to mention the stench in the city. Another strength that the book had was that it tied in many genres.
Science, mystery, and it included innovation as well. The Ghost Map tells a story of a very innovative
time. Dr. Snow and Reverend Whitehead were able to work together to identify a disease and its

Tone Color Research Paper
Have you ever heard a flute and an oboe play in an orchestra? They sound extremely different from
one another even when they are playing a tone at the same frequency and for the same duration of
time. This is called known as tone color, or timbre. Tone color (timbre) is defined as the quality that
distinguishes one musical instrument from another (Book). Tone color is impacted by different
components, but the most common is the material in which the instrument is crafted (Source 1). Some
instruments are made of wood or metal, also instruments are made up of several different types of

Descartes s Cogito Ergo Sum
During Meditations 2, Descartes establishes a version of his famous cogito ergo sum . He establishes
that despite the fact that we may not know the world around us as well as we think we do, we can
know the mind better and the trusting the mind can lead him to the seemingly justified conclusion that
he exists. Descartes method of arriving at the conclusion is by starting from scratch and considering
whether there could be any ground of doubt for his beliefs. He was a rational philosopher who gave
reason the utmost importance and led him to realise that many of his current beliefs were in fact based
on uncertainty and thus false conclusions. Therefore, in order to avoid this problem and find secure
knowledge of on what he can be certain of, he uses the method of doubting everything that he finds
reason to doubt and consequently, being justified in rejecting the whole. He will: withhold my assent
from matters which are not entirely certain and indubitable than from those which appear to me
manifestly to be false (Descartes 1641: 6) Firstly, Descartes deals with the issue of empiricism the
theory that our knowledge is derived from our sensory experiences. Since we know from everyday
errors that our senses have the ability to deceive us fairly often so making our perceptions to be
something that it is not. For example, there are lots of examples of optical illusions and the fact that
the train tracks may appear to converge from a distance. Consequently, we ought to

These distinct types of cultures lead to the development of various types of food options. Since the last three decades of the twentieth century, fast food productions stood out to be the top meal choice. The reason for this expansion of encounters with fast food has to deal with the American desire to gain more material wealth and become more prosperous which is crucial when the nation is in an economic depression. Americans expanded their encounters with fast foods to help the nation acquire the wealth that it desperately needs by means of franchising, advertising, and processing of food. A strategy that the Americans use when they seek to get out of this economic depression is Franchising. Franchising became the top choice that America has went to because of its vast potential in money making. Franchising acquired its popularity by establishing a common method of service which gave customers the comfort that they look for when they look for a meal. • 4. How Is Catherine The Great Controlled Russia Catherine the Great also known as Catherine II, (who was the most longest ruling female in Russia) had ruled Russia form 1762 to 1796. During her time in throne, Catherine had made Russia a more developed country in many different aspects. Catherine the Great had effected nobility, peasantry, military, religion and taxes / government spendings. She controlled all of these aspects of Russia and these are the main reason why she is the absolute monarch. Like i said Catherine controlled Russia nobility. Nobles were a class of people with high political static and Catherine the Great had power over them. When Catherine was in throne the nobles called it the Golden age of Russian nobility, this is because Catherine the great authorized a new law that would free the nobles form compulsory military. She not only did that, she build many mansions for them (and there were designed in western designs due to that that was the main style back then). Finally Catherine wrote manuals for the education for the young noble girls and she also assigned a charter to the nobles. • 6. Persuasive Essay On Being An Adult When do you actually become an adult? There are legal terms that qualify someone as an adult, but that doesn t necessarily mean that they act like one. I think being an adult means, being able to support yourself; as in having a steady paying job, and most importantly being accountable to yourself. Being able to make your own decisions without asking a parent or model figure first, is an example of having an identity status of a moratorium. One with this type of mindset as a young adult, will weigh their options and consider their values and what they believe themselves, whether it s their own thought branched off of their parents guidance, or it is completely their own idea and they explore to see what their views are. On the other hand, for some, they rely on their parents approval, they may have an idea or opinion about a topic, but they will ask a parent or model figure in their life to seek guidance. The young adult wants the security of having the approval of a decision and being told what to do and pointed what direction to go towards. This is essentially making the decision for them. This type of identity status if called foreclosure. At a very young age, I was given the responsibility to take care of my youngest sister after school. Pope Francis Influence On Religion Pope Francis was influenced by the Theology of Liberation, by Gustavo Gutierrez, in his upbringing as a priest and that has inspired him to implement those ideas in his reign as a pope in becoming a more relatable figure of the Catholic Church for both Catholics and non Catholics. Liberation Theology was a movement started in Latin America by a Peruvian Priest named Gustavo Gutierrez, which supported the idea of interpreting the canon law of the Catholic Church for the perspective of the poor. This, however, went against the top down hierarchical structure of the Catholic Church. It was seen as a western grass roots movement to change the Church s way of functioning and was generally ignored. Pope Francis, however, was influenced by the ... Comparing observed meteorological data from two different types of automatic weather stations Petro Burger 11048990 HONOURS REASEARCH PROJECT WKD 763 2016 DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY, GEOINFORMATICS AND METEOROLOGY UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA ABSTRACT Observed meteorological data collected by two different types of automatic weather stations (AWS) were statistically analysed in order to verify if there were a difference in the measurements due to the different sensor types. The hypothesis is that the different types of AWS s will not be statistically different. Data from January 2014 to February 2016 for six places in South Africa were analysed. Significant differences were observed for rainfall totals, temperatures and wind speeds by using the Wilcoxon Mann Whitney test. 1. Introduction The objective of this study was to compare observed rainfall amounts, maximum air temperature, minimum air temperature and maximum wind speeds at daily periods from two different types of automatic weather stations. An automatic weather station (AWS) is defined by the WMO (1992a) as a meteorological station where observations are made and from which the data is transmitted automatically. The AWS was designed to accurately measure and record standard meteorological variables. The design of AWS s may vary from measurement rates, methods on how the data is retrieved or the intervals of when the data is reported (Tanner, 1990). All functional AWS s must consist of certain specific features. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though PCP s holding of Preem notes was only about 1% of the total par amount, but they had invested approximately $7million in dollar and euro denominated bonds at around 60% of par. PCP felt there was considerable upside in this position. However, PCP had been aware of the risks when acquiring the bonds in the weak operating performance of the oil refining such as the low oil price, excess capacity and the high leverage of Preem compare to many firms in the industry. PCP was considered the long performance of the firm in the future because Preem was more profitable than many of its peers. The consequences of spending cuts may cost layoffs, reduced services, shuttered public facilities and badly needed infrastructure improvements pushed back even further (Tameez, 2014). The delivery of law enforcement services will fundamentally change as a result of severe budget cuts. Chivalry is the overall code of being respectful, religious, and morally right. Some believe chivalry is dead in our society, but I believe it has just been evolved for modern day life. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight , the author pokes fun at the court s values of chivalry. During the second half of the 14th century, when the story takes place, chivalry dictates their ranks and their everyday life. Chivalry in the 14th century was based on religion and honoring everyone. A knight that is chivalrous would be religious, protect the weak and defenseless, to live by honer and for glory, to guard the honor of all other knights, to always tell the truth and to be respectful of women. The Green knight takes three swings at Sir Gawain, the first because the knight was of Lighthearted sport (line 324), this meant that he was only swinging because of their deal. The second swing was for the two kisses he received from the green knight s wife. He received the third and final stroke because he did not give the Lord the last gift, the sash. This sash made it so whoever was wearing could not be killed under any circumstance. This is how the green knight could walk off just fine after getting his head chopped off. Nietzsche s Contradictory Concept Of Freedom The concept of freedom is contradictory in the Genealogy of Morals: for Nietzsche, true freedom will occur when every individual can live according to their true nature; however, this version of freedom would allow the strong to easily enslave the weak, negating any possibility of true freedom for an entire society. Thus, any theory of morality that seeks to explain this concept of freedom must be able to reconcile the contradiction it produces. The founder s name is still unknown. Carbon s name comes from its Latin name carbo which means burnt wood. Although, the use of carbon was from a very early time, people never see it as an element until Robert Boyle s discovery in seventeenth century. Carbon occurs naturally as many forms included anthracite, graphite, and diamond. Charcoal and soot were more prevalent in history and diamond was much more difficult to identify. Giuseppe Averani and Cipriano Targioni were the first people who discovered that diamond could be destroyed by heating. In 1694, they made the diamond disappeared just by using a gem and a large magnifying glass to focus the sunlight to the diamond. In 1772, Antoine Lavoisier showed that diamonds are a form of carbon because when he burned the samples of charcoal and diamond, they didn t produce any water and they both released the same amount of carbon dioxide per gram. In 1779, Carl Wilhelm Scheele showed another allotrope of carbon graphite, which were known as a form of lead in early times. He found out that graphite was almost identical to charcoal except a small admixture of iron, and when it oxidized with nitric acid, it gave out aerial acid (carbon dioxide). The Cambridge Dictionary of Sociology defines inequality as the unequal distribution of opportunities, rewards, and power among and between individuals, households and groups (1). It goes on to say that the subfield of social stratification has as its main task the description and analysis of inequalities, or the makeup of the stratification system of any given society .(1) From this one definition, we can already begin to see the strong links that lie between inequalities and social stratification. Therefore, our voice defines who we are, so when we change our voice we change the fabric of who we are. Zadie Smith, the author of Speaking in Tongues , knows this first hand when she moved from a working class district of London to Cambridge. She felt that she was able to have both, the Cambridge voice and the Willesden voice, and use them to expand her base of knowledge; like learning a new language. However, as she became more engrossed in her studies the core of her personality that kept her at her roots disappeared and she was consumed by the Cambridge life style. She lost herself in Cambridge because she was imitating the Cambridge life style and according to Susan Blackmore s essay Strange Creatures humans imitate naturally to learn. As humans imitate they change and because they change, their voices change as well; building an idea within us that our voices need to be unified, or singular. When we change voices we change mindsets making it incredibly difficult to switch between two mindsets on a whim. Our voices must be singular in order for us to correctly display our identity to the world. When you pick up a new meme it is like learning a new language, it requires flexibility. The things that most people immediately associate with the 1960s usually include the Civil Rights movement, Vietnam, the space race, student protests and the hippie generation, underscoring the fact that the environmental movement is often put aside relative these seemingly more iconic symbols of this decade. The 1960s certainly did not mark the first time that efforts were made in the United States to change attitudes, policies, and views regarding the environment. Many trace the intellectual roots of modern day environmentalism all the way back to the 19th century American writers and philosophers Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, most notably the latter s 1854 work, Walden. President Theodore Roosevelt set aside more public land for national parks than all of his predecessors combined. His policies and views about conservation remained dominate for decades (nps.org). The efforts made by these figures in the mid 1800s through the early part of the 20th century were crucial for paving the way for what would come in later years. The main reason for such progress in the environmental movement in the 1960s is because of influential leaders, the prominent role of media, and a generation of people who were not afraid to initiate change. It was created by Alfred von Schlieffen who was the German Chief of Staff in 1903 on the request of Kaiser Wilhelm II and it was later revised in 1905. The reason it was made was because Germany s unification came later than other European states. So the Kaiser sought out Schlieffen and directed him to devise a plan that would allow Germany to gain power and assert itself as a dominant state. Since France and Russia were in an alliance Germany was not able to just attack one country. They would be forced to fight both countries in a two front war. Schlieffen concluded that it would take Russia six weeks to mobilize while France and Germany could both be prepared for battle within fifteen days. Schlieffen believed that if France could be conquered in that short of a time period that German troops could then be moved to a new front against Russia. If Germany had a quick victory over France it would allow them to have sequential fighting and not simultaneous fighting. Steven Johnson begins the book in London during the nineteenth century (1854). The book discusses the contaminated conditions in England. More than two million people were living within a 10 mile radius. In particular, he starts by painting a picture of the lower class. He calls them rag gatherers, deredgermen, bone pickers, myud larks, night soil men, and more. The main character in the story is a man named Dr. John Snow. While everyone is convinced that people are dying because of the terrible smell, Snow spends his time trying to prove that the smell isn t what s killed people. He didn t know it at first, but research and proof supporting his research proved time and time again that it was a bigger deal than smell. In his book, Johnson says, Great breakthroughs are closer to what happens in a floodplain: a dozen separate tributaries converge, and the rising waters lift the genius high enough that he or she can see around the conceptual obstructions of the age. (pg. 149). His belief was that cholera, a disease commonly spread through water is what s causing all the deaths. Johnson gives the reader a view of Snow s day to day efforts of proving himself. He establishes that despite the fact that we may not know the world around us as well as we think we do, we can know the mind better and the trusting the mind can lead him to the seemingly justified conclusion that he exists. Descartes method of arriving at the conclusion is by starting from scratch and considering whether there could be any ground of doubt for his beliefs. He was a rational philosopher who gave reason the utmost importance and led him to realise that many of his current beliefs were in fact based on uncertainty and thus false conclusions. Therefore, in order to avoid this problem and find secure knowledge of on what he can be certain of, he uses the method of doubting everything that he finds reason to doubt and consequently, being justified in rejecting the whole. He will: withhold my assent from matters which are not entirely certain and indubitable than from those which appear to me manifestly to be false (Descartes 1641: 6) Firstly, Descartes deals with the issue of empiricism the theory that our knowledge is derived from our sensory experiences. Since we know from everyday errors that our senses have the ability to deceive us fairly often so making our perceptions to be something that it is not. For example, there are lots of examples of optical illusions and the fact that the train tracks may appear to converge from a distance. Consequently, we ought to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
