In these myths it is just the time, place and setting that changes. This is why Hollywood is so
successful at making good movies, because they base it off these myths. The most popular myth is that
of the hero, because for most of us this is what we want to be. With this myth we can live that

Stage three, like in Seger s essay is when the hero is called upon. However, sometimes the hero is not
ready to go or are scared of what they may find out. In the movie Neo meets Apoc, (Played by Julian
Arahanga) Switch, (Played by Belinda McClory) and Trinity, he is told to do what they say or get out
of the car. At first, Neo chooses to leave, but Trinity calls upon him to stay and trust her. This was Neo
s calling, and the introduction to his next step.
Seger writes, that the forth stage is when the hero meets his helper or helpers. Because of the help,
they offer the hero will be able to complete his/her journey or adventure. The helper could be anybody
from a small child to a guardian angle. This helper usually give the hero something that will help
him/her to complete the journey, it could be advice, training or a small item to protect him/her. In the
Matrix, Neo has many helpers. The two that helped him the most are Morpheus and the Oracle
(Played by Gloria Foster). Morpheus is like the Wise old man who offers Neo the truth of the matrix

Existentialism As A World View
I read what I thought was an obscure cartoon depicting a figurative situation where every person in the
world is born with a hole in the center of their chest. The cartoon progresses through a series of
examples where people fit objects and ideas into that hole before arriving at someone who decided to
just leave the hole empty. The empty holed person claimed that he found out if you run against the
wind at just the right angle, it makes a whistling noise (Document 3). Interestingly enough, the cartoon
sums up, at least superficially, how I view Existentialism as a world view. Rejecting the social
institutions that cover up the realities of the world, Existentialism calls for the developing of
individual values based on what the follower feels is important in his or her life. Just as the empty
holed person refuses to follow the others in filling the hole, the Existentialist chooses not to surround
him or herself with religion, political ideologies or meaning for the world as many others do. As a
world view, Existentialism is both practical and necessary because it provides those who subscribe to
it the means to shape their own values in a meaningless world rather than blanketing themselves with
the delusions created by social institutions that falsely provide such meanings.
As a philosophy, Existentialism can be quite technical. Much of the theory involves generalized

dry terrain gave rise to amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and finally to humans. As early reptiles

struggles for food and territory. Our reptilian ancestors were changing their bodies and these new
features are evident in our human bodies today. One of these features that link us to our reptilian
ancestors is the yolk sac which is evident in the human embryo as well as the eggs of reptiles. As
reptiles adapted to life on a dry earth, they needed to keep their eggs from drying out an so evolved a
new type of egg which enclosed the embryos in an amnion filled sac and covered it with a hard shell.
Reptiles and humans both carry the yolk gene but it is no longer functional in humans as we evolved
and no longer needed yolk to feed our embryos. But those broken yolk genes are still in our genome
and link us to these ancient egg laying animals. Skin is another important feature that connects us to

Reflection Of African American Literature
AFAS 160D: African American Literature is a thought provoking course detailing the dynamic culture
and literature African Americans have produced in American society. The readings provided challenge
our stereotypical way of thinking when it comes to privilege, discrimination, racism, and oppression.
These readings include Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, The Institutionalist by Colson
Whitehead, a variety of poems, and more. No matter what content the course puts out, it is always an
enjoyable read. The online part is also a positive aspect because it can fit into anyone s tenuous
schedule. I rarely have time during the day, so I work on this class either at my shifts as a Desk
Assistant on campus or at night, when I can find that free time. I feel neutral about the assignments
because for a gen ed, there was quite a lot of work. The assignments were related to the readings and
helped me better understand them, but it seemed a little excessive. For this class, the website
Notebowl is used instead of D2L. This change tripped me up at first, but over time, I started to
understand and get use to it. Notebowl is more online friendly than D2L and allows for better
communication across all boards (professor student, TA student, student student). The only downside
is the $25 cost and I hope that can be subsidized in the future. In this order, I will tell any potential
student about the course and why they should take it.
My mind ordered the reasons above in that way because of importance. The meat of the course, the
readings, are by far the most essential component of the class. If the readings did not fit the vibe of the
class, were few and far between, or were too daunting, then I would not recommend the course.
Nonetheless, Professor Carter bestowed upon us glorious readings that were same part intriguing,
entertaining, and thought provoking. The readings made the course for me and broadened my library
all together and, specifically, for African American literature. What differentiates this class from others
is that it is fully online. Every semester in my collegiate career, I have taken an online class. For me, it
allows me to not be swamped during the day and work on it at night, where, sometimes, I am
