Analysis Of The Book Two And Three Things I Know For Sure
In the book Two or Three things i know for sure , Dorothy Allison who tells her story growing up
in a memoir and she uses her experiences to explain the two or The things she learned. What makes
this her story stand out is not just that it s a memoir but also because the main point is beauty and
how womenin her familywere put down and abused because of their appearance. Throughout this
whole book Dorothy tries to send out one important message on beauty which from my
understanding beauty is not based on what men say or society says, we live in a world where a
womans beauty is determined whether a man find hers beautiful and that must stop. Timothy
Dow Adams who read s Two or Three things i know for sure writes his review on it, and his
understanding of Dorothy Allison s points of views. In pages 32 through 34 from the Book Two
or Three things i know for sure Dorothy includes an image of her family, more specifically the
women in her family. Now in page 32 Dorothy explained that the women on her family were not
considered beautiful stating, the women of my family were measured, manlike, sexless, bearers

Major General Petraeus s Reconstruction Efforts
A Reconstruction Effort While under Major General David Petraeus, the 101st Airborne Division
initially deployed, ready to engage insurgent forces. However, after arriving in Mosul, Iraq the
division became heavily involved in a vital reconstruction effort. General Petraeus understood
through his previous experiences that in war, reconstruction efforts are inevitable. His critical
thinking and problem solving led to a three pronged strategy to provide a secure environment, to
restore basic life services and to facilitate a return to normalcy for the citizens of Mosul. In this
paper, I will summarize how General Petraeus used critical thinking, problem solving and the

Italian Neorealism
Italian Neo realism Thesis
What?
It sought to deal realistically with the events leading up to the war and with their resulting social
problems. Rooted in the 1920s, it was similar to the verismo ( realism ) movement, from which it
originated, but differed in that its upsurge resulted from the intense feelings inspired by fascist
repression, the Resistance, and the war.
Italian aesthetic movement that flourished especially after World War II.
Neorealism in film embraced a documentary like objectivity; actors were often amatuers, and the
action centred on commonplace situations. Often crudely and hastily made, Neorealist productions
stood in stark contrast to traditional escapist feature films.
It must be said that neorealist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A year later PaisГ (Italy 1946) took the process of nation building further by not only attempting to
unite different regional communities together in its six different episodes but also explicitly
bringing spaces together in the map of the Italian peninsula which gradually becomes uniformly
white as the forces of liberation are shown moving upwards along the Italian boot. It s significant,
suggests Restivo in an aside, that Rossellini doesn t end up showing the Italian boot completely
whitened by the movement of liberation but rather allows a stain to remain in the northeastern
sector, approximately at the place of SalГІ (Italy/France, 1975).
Nevertheless, as is well known, Neorealism itself failed and, in a sense, was destined to fail. On
the one hand its commitment to an aesthetics of reality was self defeating since Italy s millenarian
regionalism worked against the construction of anything but the most fictionalised national unity.
On the other hand the radical political openness that had existed briefly after the war which had
allowed Neorealism to project an Italy fashioned along the lines of Partisan dreams, was greatly
reduced by the 1948 elections and reduced further as the Christian Democrat party consolidated its
power in the early 1950s. Neorealism thus disappeared and left the representation of the fragmented

Whale Rider Belonging
Whale rider is told in the context of a Maori tribe in modern New Zealand. The movie tells the
story of a young girl, Pai, and her grandfather Karo, who must struggle with adapting a patriarchal
Maori legend with the Pai s seeming affinity with sacred traditions. The music in this movie
underscores each scene and leaves the viewer feeling moved emotionally. Music tells the audience
how they should be feeling and what emotions they should be experiencing. It adds scale and
dramatizes events.
Music in movies is crucial to manipulate our emotions towards the scene. Incorporating music
into films will not only make the final outcome more interesting, but it also allows the audience
the ability to connect emotionally to characters and their situation, also reinforcing the story and
/or message. Music can also work very well to make clear the heritage of a character/group of
characters or the geographic setting of the movie or a scene. If for example Chinese or Japanese
sounding music can be heard during a certain scene, the audience can easily spot where it is taking
place without the need of visually establishing the location too much. Music also has the ability to
clear the time frame of the movie. For example if classical music is being heard in the film, the
audience are able to easily recognize that the movie is set in an older period of time. ... Show more

Together, these sounds create a strong sense of place and enhance the message of the film. The
film s opening credits are on the blue of the sea with Pai s voiceover setting the scene. The music

agony in hospital, accompanied by a terrified husband. The music conveys the pain far more than

States. The Federalist Era is characterized by how the Federalist Party took over and transformed
politics in the United States. The Federalist Era brought about quite a few achievements in failures.
During the Federalist Era, there were a lot of achievements in the United States. First of all, the

First of all, an event known as the Whiskey Rebellion occurred during the Federalist Era. In
Pennsylvania, farmers used corn to produce whiskey in order to utilize more useful modes of
storage and transportation. In Hamilton s plan of tariffs and taxes, there was an excise tax on
whiskey produced in the United States. The tax triggered violent protests from farmers in
Pennsylvania. George Washington used executive power to put down the rebellion. In addition, the
rebellion caused a deeper division between political parties. Second of all, the Federalist Era is
characterized by resistance from the opposing Democratic Republican Party. The Democratic
Republican Party began with Thomas Jefferson s resignation from Washington s cabinet due to
decisions on Federalist policy. Jefferson especially disagreed with Alexander Hamilton s decisions
on finances. By the end of the Washington presidency, the partition between loose and strict
constructionists had transformed into two political parties. The loose constructionists became the
Federalist Party and the strict constructionists became the Democratic Republican Party. In

Elvis And Johnny Cash Essay
Historically, genres of popular music have undergone dramatic changes due to changing technology,
social relationships with historical events, ideas and practices and the changing demographics of
listeners. For genres as diverse as country and rock n roll, there have been many changes that were

Why Do People Join Gangs
As a result of my study on gangs, I have discovered that the reasons that people join gangs are
because of getting involved with drugs, having uncontrollable emotions, experiences with failure
and unhealthy relationships. I agree with those being the causes of why people join gangs and
also believe those causes can be prevented. By having healthy lifestyle choices, I believe they
would not join a gang. Other people might say that becoming involved with gangs can not be
controlled due to family and ethnic cultures endorsing it.
The addiction of drugs is a cause of joining gangs, because once a person gets hooked they are
only going to want more. The connection to drugs comes from gang involvement. If a teenager is

Gangs attract people that are in need of protection. The ethnic is clear: the more you have
enemies, the more you have to trust and rely upon your fellow gang members for protection.
(McEvoy 3) Living in a bad neighborhood is dangerous and people tend to join gangs so they don t
become the victim. Another example with getting involved through relationships is because of a
trust bond. In a sense, gang violence is a communal event rather like a ritual linking members
together in a common bond. (McEvoy 2) Antisocial teens that want friends, might get involved with
the wrong crowd and start to create a bond with them. A prevention to creating a dangerous
relationship with gang members, is to join a support group. Support groups allow you to get meet
people you can relate to while being safe. Hagedorn says, Researchers have found that gang activity
is most effectively reduced by combining anti gang police actions, recreational programs, and
educational support. (1) Getting involved with the right crowd can prevent unhealthy relationships

The Trends And Trends Of The 1960s
Every year, designers present a fall collection. When examining the runway shows and styles
displayed as a whole, one starts to notice multiple trends. Although the designers give people the
trends, the consumer is the deciding factor of what is or is not a trend in everyday life and not
just in the fashion world. There are many different trends, which are categorized into major and
minor trends. Three major trends and forecasts seen numerous times in fall 2014 runway shows
and magazines are plaid, 60s inspired, and fairytale inspired styles. 1960 s Inspired Trend. The
1960s are back in fashion in a huge way. One can see the inspiration from the 60s all over the
runway and retail stores. When looking at forecasts for fall 2014, Trend Council predicted 60s
inspired clothing would be in style during the fall 2014 season. They predicted the styles seen
would be elegant shift dresses, hitting about mid thigh. The shift dresswas first introduced in the
early 60s and the style immediately became popular. To consumers in the 1960 s, the shift dress
represented youth, freedom and the revolutionary spirit of American young women. Now the shift
dress is classy again with a high neck, long sleeves and neutral colors.

taken to prevent high school dropouts. The issue of high school dropouts continues to grow as

Some people argue that if a student wants to drop out, it is their personal choice. They choose to
hurt their educational life, therefore society as a whole should not waste their time and energy
attempting to help and prevent dropouts. Although sure enough, the people can not put an
absolute end to high school dropouts but they should help who they can not. Another reason it is
important to help dropouts is because high school dropouts do not only affect themselves, but
they affect the rest of the country as well (Williams 14). A specific region or areas drop out rates
play a role on the area s overall prosperity, for areas with lower dropout rates have less criminal

Major Differences In The Movie 300
THIS IS SPARTA a famous quote from the movie 300 (2006) about the ferocious battles of the
Greco Persian wars across the western Mediterranean. Persia was the dominant empire of this time
because of conquering and expanding borders. They had the largest army of the time with around
700,000 800,000 soldiers. Spartaon the other hand was a smaller still powerful city state with
highly trained Military personnel. I think there are many minor differences that alter and change
the way you see the battle. Some of those minor changes in the movie not in the real battle are the
Persians used rhinos and elephants to ride into battle, Xerxes does not go into battle as seen in the

Within the mighty Persian empire they never had any animals used for combat. During the
hiding in the shade scene, it showed the Persian archers shooting of what looks to be one million
plus arrows which is a huge overstatement because for one there was never that many arrows to
block out the sun, and second the wooden arrows would not stick in the metal shields the
Spartans held. Another minor difference within the battle was in the movie it showed Xerxes in
the front lines of the battle. In the movie Xerxes Talked to Leonidas and even reasoned for him
to be warlord of Sparta and obviously Leonidas refused. In reality Xerxes was far behind enemy
lines where he couldn t get a spear in the cheek. Xerxes was also never that tall or never wore
those clothes he was much shorter, fatter and wore fine silk clothes. Last minor difference was in
the movie the Spartan soldiers were almost naked when going into battle. Actual spartan soldiers
were covered head to toe in metal armor and never took their helmets off during combat. Also the

Spread Of Islam Dbq Essay
In the 7th and 8th centuries, Islam spread from its beginnings in Arabia to cover the entire Middle

stretched from Eastern Persia in the Middle East, all the way to the westernmost edges of Spain and
North Africa, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Islamexpanded so rapidly because of its techniques on
conquering unstable areas and converting people to Islam, preventing setbacks and obstructions.
Islam had three main reasons for its eminent prosperity. The way that Muslims treated the
conquered people allowed for peace throughout the empire. Tolerance, combined with the military
power, a disciplined army, and an overall appealing religion of Islam, provided the template that
allowed the empire to expand to encompass an enormous amount of area. The Muslim army was

Panama s Struggle For Independence
Over the course of the nineteenth century, isthmian political leaders developed a growing ambition
for independence. Panama subsequently declared its independence from Colombia in 1830, 1831,
and 1840, but each time the separation was quickly aborted. From 1819, Panama was part of the
federation and country of Colombia but when Colombia rejected United Statesplans to build a
canal across the Isthmus of Panama, the U.S. supported a revolution that led to the independence
of Panama in 1903. After encouraging Panama s independence from Colombia, the U.S. signed a
treaty in 1903 that gave it the rights to build and operate the canal for perpetuity. The agreement
also gave the U.S. the right to govern the 10 mile wide, 40 mile long strip

There are three styles of leadership have been used to describe leaders in certain situations. I can
be able to use the most of my skills if I have full understanding of my strengths and weaknesses

leadership style is Autocratic in which the leaders understand the strength of the authority and sees

I always motivate my subordinates by setting a good example and starting with myself. So, if

I will join the team in executing this task. On the other hand, I always follow open door which

File Sharing And The Internet
File Sharing
I d like to propose another toast to you, the listener. It doesn t matter how you got this, you bought
it, you downloaded it, and your grandma gave it to you. (Jones). Chances are anybody who has ever
used the internet has downloaded copyrighted material. Many people view downloading
copyrighted material from the internet as stealing, but others see it as a distribution of human
knowledge and information. File sharing, more formally known today as torrents, should be legal.
File sharing is only illegal if the material that is being distributed is copyrighted. Even then if the
creator of the content chooses to distribute their material in this format it is also legal. Companies

The controversy which defined file sharing for this period surrounded one file format the mp3
(Smith). In the late 1990s, Napster, a web service that provided mp3 files to people who paid a
small subscription fee, was founded and was known for hosting a large amount of mp3 files that
anybody could download. That same year a service called Audiogalaxy was created as well. The
two sites had friendly competitions to see who could get more web traffic and downloads. Napster
was shut down due to copyright infringement in 2001. Audiogalaxy closed soon after due to
pressure caused by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and was sold to Vivendi

In the same year that Napster was shut down, Windows released its new software version which
would replace Windows 98. Windows XP, released in 2001, included a feature called Simple File

Impressions Gained of Pip s Character from Great Expectations
Pip is very much a child in the the first chapter. However, it is
Pip narrating it as an adult ( retrospective narrator). You know he is a child by his childish thoughts
and his rather odd imagination. He manages to come up with the childish conclusion that his father
is a
square, stout, dark man, with curly hair just by looking at his fathers tombstone. Also, that his
mother was freckled and sickly . It is quite bizarre that Pip has managed to conjour up that idea
from a tombstone. I think Dickens has done this to prove a childs nieve, yet wild imagination. I
think Pip tries to trace his parents or identify them this way just so he can feel placed in the ... Show

An impression I also recieve from Pip is that he is very polite. He repeatedly uses the word sir when
speaking to Magwitch even when
Magwitch is threatening to cut Pips throat.
I also believe that the setting has a link to Pips feelings and the whole atmosphere. The setting is
used to make Pips visit to the graveyard more memorable . The setting s dark, flat wilderness also
builds up the tension and emotion for Magwitch s arrival. It also adds to Pip s fear and emotion.
Magwitch was a fearful man, all in coarse grey with a great iron on his leg . At this time Pip was
undersized for his years and not very strong . Pip is very afraid of Magwitch and he is only a
young child who is already going through the emotion of his parents and brothers deaths. You
know Pip was very traumatised as he sat trembling while Magwitch ate the bread ravenously and
tried to keep himself from crying .
Pips fear of Magwitch grows when Magwitch says I ain t alone, as you may think I am . Dickens
does this to intimidate Pip even more and to make Pips experience with Magwitch as fearful and
as memorable as possible. Magwitch then starts to go into great detail about what the other man
can supposedly do. The description of the man kind of sounds like a ghost or horror story and
Magwitch refers to himself as an
Angel compared to the other man. You may think yourself comftable and safe, but that young man
will softly creep and creep his way

Short Story Sleep Within The Elephant Vanishes By Mularakami
The Elephant Vanishes is a collection of Murakami s early stories; within two of his short stories,
one may find loss and aging, and reality and the well of the unconscious. While three of his novels
will contain memory and music, time and timelessness, and melancholy and longing for a special
time and place.
The short story, Sleep within the Elephant Vanishes, captures Loss and Aging. The narrator, a
thirty year old wife and mother, who is plagued with insomnia, goes through a series of loss and
Aging. While she looses sleep, she notes that in the beginning of her insomnia, she had time to
look at herself and reflect upon her life and her body. She realized that she does not want to turn
out like her mother, she used to be slim, lovely woman, but not anymore (pp.80). She seems to
tell her story as someone who lost herself in exchanging for marrying a not so handsome man and
having his son. As the story progresses and the narrator spends more time on activities, such as
swimming, and she soon sees the improvement in her feminine figure. I was amazed to discover
that my body appeared to be almost bursting with vitality (pp.97). With giving up sleep she had
gained what she had lost. She seemed to regain what would usually be lost with age, yet ... Show

Comparing Whittier, California To Laughlin, Nevada
City To City Moving from Whittier, California to Laughlin, Nevada has had many obvious
differences. I think although these cities only have 270 miles between them they have many
more differences than they do similarities. Whittier is a bigger and greener city that has a lot
more going on, higher population, and offers a lot to their community. While Laughlin is a
really small city where everyone seems to know each other and contains an older crowd of
people. These cities have both become my home in different times in my life, here are some of
the different things that set apart and distinguish each one. The first and most obvious distinction
between these two cities would be the scenery it has to offer. Whittier is surrounded by green
hills that are filled with trees and houses. It provides the community with lots of parks and hiking
trails all around. There are also many convenient places that are easy to walk to such as places to
eat, grocery stores, shops, and entertainment. Although Whittier has a lot to offer to their
community it is very populated. The streets and the neighborhoods are always filled with people
and cars, parking was never an easy thing to find. In contrast, Laughlin is surrounded by mountains
that are made up of the desert and open space. There aren t too many places that are walking

Dead Men Tell No Tales Analysis
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales
The best and worst Pirates film is the same film.
The most recent Pirates of the Caribean movie Dead Men Tell no Tales has some of the most
interesting and entertaining filmic devices while also having a contrite and contrived narrative that
is weakened by poor technical.
The film opens with a small child (Brenton Thwaites). He gets in a boat. He has a map. He
paddles out into open waters. He throws a bag of rocks into the ocean; the bag tied to his leg. He
waits and jumps in as the bag pulls him deep beneath the water. Intrigue established, the audience
has no idea who this kid is. Maybe it s the child of someone important or maybe this story is an
allegory for something else. Before anyone can truly begin to ponder whether or not this movie
about to turn really dark into suicide, the child lands on the dock of a sunken ship. Then the ship
rises.
This sequence is so well written and shot that it plays out beautifully on the big screen. A good film
will always immediately grab the audience and start the narrative. The child creates a mystery and
shocks the viewer, but the familiarity of a kid opening the film a reference perhaps back to the
singing child of Dead Man s Chest and the legendary ship that rises from the water comes straight
from Dead Man s Chest.
Water rushes off the deck as memories of the previous films rush in and immediately the audience
can guess that this is Will s (Orlando Bloom) son who has dropped

the owners of the Triangle Factory, Max and Isaac, were often blamed for not taking the steps to

The Individualism Of The American Colonies
In this passage, Paine emphasizes how the unique individualism of the American colonies cannot
exist under Great Britain. While it may be a rational and more peaceful decision to remain under
Great Britain s control, the oppression of the American colonies individualism is one that goes
against common sense and is a situation that calls for a passionate revolution. The emphasis on
individualism and passionate expression of the self during the late 18th and early 19th century is
also exemplified in the musical realm through the revolutionary work of one of the most highly
influential musicians, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. At the time of Mozart s birth, the most popular
and conventional music was created in the style of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. After
the discovery of Mozart s prodigal musical genius and honing his skill through several positions of
employment, Mozart began to realize his individualism as a gifted artist. Mozart became aware of
his potential for greatness and used his gift not to conform to the style of music at the time, but to
use his music as a form of passionate self expression. Mozart would not let anything extinguish his
passion and freedom to create, even if it caused him great financial struggle throughout most of
adulthood. The musical pieces Mozart created differed from that the music of the time in the sense
that his work was highly driven by passion and emotion. Rather than focusing solely on the

What Does Genetic Inheritance May Influence One- Behaviour
Biological level of analysis Explain how genetic inheritance may influence one behaviour, with
reference to one relevant research study. Genetic inheritance is genes that are gain from parents or
ancestors, usually from generation to generation. Genes define characteristics in a person and are
passed down through generations; however, the environment can encourage these characteristics.
Genetic inheritance does play a role in one s behaviour also their environment. Researchers are not
quite sure on whether if genetic influence or the environment impacts one s behaviour the most.
Research done on families and how the family interacted with each other each day shows genetic
influence. The study to aid the relationship between genetic influence and conduct is the Minnesota
Twins study, which meant to watch the impact of environment and genetic influence upon a large
number of variables which included: brainpower remainder, identity and word related/professional
perks, by exploring the connection between these elements in twins raised separated utilizing MZTs
as a control. Regardless of these shortcomings the study does demonstrate a solid connection
between genetic influence and insight, proposing that genetic influence has a generous impact on
conduct. Heston, in 1966, led an examination to test to what degree schizophrenia is because of

Management Style At Arizona Central Credit Union
Organizational Management Approach Analysis
The management approach of any one organization is unique and varied based on the needs of the
business or the type of organization. When developing this management approach, in my opinion, it
is critical to adapt and to use many sources of knowledge to be successful. These sources of
knowledge can be traced to historical theories that have been developed throughout recent history,
and are critical to the understanding of how practical applications can be successfully used. It is
also argued that modern students of management do not have the practical understanding or
awareness of these historical theories because of the misguided curriculum and lack of interest
(Cummings Bridgman, 2011). The purpose of this paper approaches some historical theories in
comparison to the modern management style within a credit union to demonstrate the use of these
theories as a management tool.

Female Genital Mutilation ( Fgm )
INTRODUCTION
Female genital cutting (also known as female genital mutilation) is one of the most prevalent
violations of the human rights of women in the world. As of 2010, 100 to 140 million female
bodied people were living with mutilated genitalia. According to the United Nations, Female genital
mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for
non medical reasons. Female genital cutting is a practice that is generally directed at female bodied
people under the age of 18. International institutions such as the United Nations call it a violation of
the rights of the child... [a violation of] the rights to health, security and physical integrity of the
person, the right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the right to
life when the procedure results in death.
It is a practice that has been proven to not be effectively combatted by international legislation,
national legislation, human rights advocacy, or educational programs. However, human beings
operate based on cultural and social norms. Female genital cutting is a practice that is enforced by
social and cultural norms in the places where it is common. Thus, one of the most effective methods
of combatting FGC involves community based organizations, which must work together to create
norm based social change in order to alter the cultural beliefs that allow FGC to endure and spread,
thereby eliminating or curbing the practice.

The Importance Of Being A Conservative Role Model
Why am I proud to be a conservative woman? I am proud because I believe conservative is so
much more than just a word. I looked up the definition, and it said that to be conservative is to
hold to traditional values and ideas, and cautious about change and innovation. I believe that the
founding fathers would have wanted us to stick to their ideals. They built this country on a

myself, since I have had some difficult changes in my life. Therefore, my conservative role models

me since she was the first woman to be a governor of Alaska in 2006. She was also the first
female to run on the Republican ticket, as McCain s vice president. Palin was able to cut Alaska
s spending by ten percent, which is amazing for one term; obviously, she is fabulous with money,
and that is another quality I admire. Third, I admire Phyllis Schlafly for all the work she did for
our great country. I admire her more on a personal level, since she defended our religious rights. I
am a proud Southern Baptist, and she defended the country from the Equal Rights Amendment,
which includes several actions Christians do not believe are acceptable. Singlehandedly, she
prevented the bill from getting passed, so there was no abortion, even though Roe versus Wade
came years later and it became legal. She believed that the Equal Rights Amendment would
eventually allow same sex marriages to occur, and be legal. As time went on, she turned out to be

What Learning Has Occurred And How This Will Influence...
Chapter 6 Overview The final section of this dissertation will focus on reflecting upon the
experience of undertaking a dissertation, what learning has occurred and how this will influence
future practice as a staff nurse working in the NHS. The author will utilise Rolfe, Freshwater
and Jasper s (2001) model. The author chose this model as it is a simpler model than Gibbs
(1998) model, Rolfe et al (2001) poses the questions What? So what? And Now what? The author
felt due to its simplicity that this model was more suited to this reflection. What? The author
undertook a twelve thousand word dissertation as part of a BSc (Hons) nursing degree. The
dissertation has been completed as a patchwork text order, consisting of 4 separate pieces... Show

So what? From completing this dissertation the author has learnt just how important research is
and how essential it is for nurses to have an in depth understanding of the care they are giving to
their patients. This dissertation has helped the author have a great knowledge on CBT and just
how effective and valuable it is in treating people who have sexually offended. Undertaking a
patchwork assessment made the author reflect upon patient care and although we may consider
an individual s care needs individually, holistic care is the ultimate aim in delivering high
quality patient care. Holistic care is seeing the patient as a physical, spiritual and psychological
whole and not just focusing on one particular area (NursingTimes.Net 2009). A patchwork text is
a type of assessment which consists of smaller sections that once put together becomes a
comprehensible and combined piece of work (Scoggins and Winter 1999). Research is essential
in all areas of nursing as nurses have a duty to ensure they are up to date with all relevant
developments in nursing and should be able to give rationale for all care they give. Nursing
research expands the evidence base and improves clinical practice (NursingTimes.Net 2014).
Nurses need to have the ability to research a subject in order to keep up to date with the ever
changing nursing practice and ultimately improve the delivery of care to our

Why Was Vasco Da Gama Responsible
many of you might know Vasco Da Gama only as an explorer; however, he was also a voyager
who has done several successful voyages throughout the world that had great effect to his
country. He was the first man to find the direct seaway toward India and also has done several
voyages to help his country out. He had said, I am not afraid of the darkness. Real death is
preferable to a life without living which showed his braveness and fearless about going out for
voyages. I believe that Vasco Da Gamawas a successful leader as a voyager and an explorer who
had amount of responsibility to his voyage and patriotism.
First of all, one of the reasons why I believe him as a good leader is that he was a man who went to
voyages with having responsibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reason for his second voyage was on the country. Pedro Cabral had conflicts with the local Arab
merchants which leading the Arab merchants attacking the Portugal factory and having up to 70
Portuguese killed. He went out on the voyage for the revenge of this event. He went out with fleet
of fifteen ships and 800 men from Lisbon. Later on squadron of five ships led by his cousin,
followed them. During the way out he stopped by Sofala, a gold trading port in East Africa, to
earn gold from them. When Da Gama went across in Indian water he was trying to capture Arab
vessel. Da Gama had actually captured a ship full of passengers and killed everyone in it in the
sea. Da Gama had ordered the Hindu King to have all the Muslims out of Calicut, however this
did not turn out to happen. As a result, Vasco Da Gama had begun to attack the cities that are
near the shore for several days also treating crew s violently from the Muslim s rice vessels and
sending them notes about insulting Zarmorin. Zarmorin as a response they declined to
Portuguese, not only that but also having a fleet go threat Vasco Da Gama, however this did not
turn out to work out well. Vasco Da Gama had taken spices from Cochin and Cannanore, while
some were at wars. Vasco Da Gama had decided to leave India having small squadron to protect
the Portugal factories and tiresome the Calicut shipping. However, Vasco Da Gama had

How Did Norma Jeane s Impact On Hollywood
The people who were a part of Hollywood in the twentieth century greatly impacted not only those
alive in the century but for the generations to follow. The LumiГ©re Brothers were two French
brothers named Auguste and Louis. They invented the first CinГ©matographe. This device was an
early motion picture camera. Workers Leaving the Lumiere Factory was the first motion picture
made by the LumiГ©re Brothers. Another influence was Eaweard Muybrige. He came up with the
idea of taking pictures of moving animals and putting them together to create a moving picture. He
used the power of photography to capture motions of living things. Speaking of inventors, Thomas
Edison created the kinetoscope, a newer version of the motion picture filmprojector.... Show more

Because of Norma Jeane s hourglass figure, many pictures were of her in two piece bathing
suits. It was these pinup magazine pictures that the casting director of 20th Century Fox took
attention to Norma Jeane and called her for a screen test. A screen test is a filmed test to
ascertain whether an actor is suitable for a movie role. Her test was a success in August 1946,
20th Century Fox offered her a six month contract. When Dougherty found out that his wife was
becoming a starlet along with being a model became even more unhappy. Dougherty and Norma
Jeane divorced at this time. Up until the divorce, Monroe had still been using her married name,
Norm Jeane Dougherty. Casting director, Lyon, from 20th Century Fox helped her create a
screen name. He suggested Marilyn after the popular 1920s stage performer Marilyn Miller.
Monroe came from Gladys maiden name. Monroe attended acting, dancing, and singling classes
for free at the 20th Century Fox Studios. She was an extra in a few movies and had 1 line in
Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay! but her contract at 20th century Fox was not renewed. Six months later
Monroe was receiving unemployment insurance benefits while continuing acting classes. Columbia
Pictures hired her at $125 per week. While at Columbia, Monroe was given a second billing in
Ladies of the Chorus, film that Monroe featured a singing musical number. Even though she
positive reviews, her contract at Columbia was not

The Success of Taiwanese Immigrants
Some Background behind Taiwan
Taiwan, a small island on the coast of Mainland China, after WWII was occupied by the KMT, led
by Chiang Kai Shek along with his followers fled to Taiwan due to the loss of the Chinese Civil
War. The U.S financially backing the KMT, due to their fight against communism during the Cold
War Era, led to massive industrialization in Taiwan and political tension between Taiwan and China.
Thus during the 1950s and on, Taiwanese people, mostly students, started to immigrate into
America and try to assimilate into the American lifestyle. Taiwanese Americans, a good majority
with a middle class background, came into the U.S for higher education, but then decided to stay or
migrate whether because of family that was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chen and Foner (1987) state that the higher educated and skilled Taiwanese people with a
middle class background often have the resources to move into a wealthier neighborhood, Chen
talks of San Gabriel, CA, while Foner writes of Flushing, New York, and create their own
enclave, but not limited to only Taiwanese, other Asians and minorities had also moved in. Chen
talks of how Taiwanese suburbs would see the Taiwanese equivalents of a coffee and donut
shops, but also the supermarket had a Taiwanese equivalent, in the book there was a picture of a
chain supermarket, Ranch 99. Foner and Chen talk of how, in Foner s case, Flushing, New York,
economy escalated due to the money that was being put in by the Taiwanese immigrants and the
enclave started to be populated with all sorts of white collar businesses and banks. Chen talks of
how San Gabriel, CA, was home for many Taiwanese Americans who were affluent in the
technology industry causing a boom in the area, allowing for traditions, such as the Lunar New
Year parade to go on. Gu writes that the Taiwanese faced harsh discrimination in wages, for they
were paid less even though they were more educated than their white counterparts. Gu also states
that women were more unfairly treated in wages than me, but less women

Many people view downloading copyrighted material from the internet as stealing, but others see it as a distribution of human knowledge and information. However, it is Pip narrating it as an adult ( retrospective narrator). You know he is a child by his childish thoughts and his rather odd imagination. He manages to come up with the childish conclusion that his father is a square, stout, dark man, with curly hair just by looking at his fathers tombstone. Also, that his mother was freckled and sickly . It is quite bizarre that Pip has managed to conjour up that idea from a tombstone. The setting is used to make Pips visit to the graveyard more memorable . The setting s dark, flat wilderness also builds up the tension and emotion for Magwitch s arrival. It also adds to Pip s fear and emotion. Magwitch was a fearful man, all in coarse grey with a great iron on his leg . At this time Pip was undersized for his years and not very strong . Pip is very afraid of Magwitch and he is only a young child who is already going through the emotion of his parents and brothers deaths. You know Pip was very traumatised as he sat trembling while Magwitch ate the bread ravenously and tried to keep himself from crying . Pips fear of Magwitch grows when Magwitch says I ain t alone, as you may think I am . Dickens does this to intimidate Pip even more and to make Pips experience with Magwitch as fearful and as memorable as possible. Magwitch then starts to go into great detail about what the other man can supposedly do. The description of the man kind of sounds like a ghost or horror story and Magwitch refers to himself as an Angel compared to the other man. Short Story Sleep Within The Elephant Vanishes By Mularakami The Elephant Vanishes is a collection of Murakami s early stories; within two of his short stories, one may find loss and aging, and reality and the well of the unconscious. While three of his novels will contain memory and music, time and timelessness, and melancholy and longing for a special time and place. The short story, Sleep within the Elephant Vanishes, captures Loss and Aging. The narrator, a thirty year old wife and mother, who is plagued with insomnia, goes through a series of loss and Aging. While she looses sleep, she notes that in the beginning of her insomnia, she had time to look at herself and reflect upon her life and her body. She realized that she does not want to turn out like her mother, she used to be slim, lovely woman, but not anymore (pp.80). She seems to tell her story as someone who lost herself in exchanging for marrying a not so handsome man and having his son. As the story progresses and the narrator spends more time on activities, such as swimming, and she soon sees the improvement in her feminine figure. The most recent Pirates of the Caribean movie Dead Men Tell no Tales has some of the most interesting and entertaining filmic devices while also having a contrite and contrived narrative that is weakened by poor technical. The film opens with a small child (Brenton Thwaites). He gets in a boat. He has a map. He paddles out into open waters. He throws a bag of rocks into the ocean; the bag tied to his leg. He waits and jumps in as the bag pulls him deep beneath the water. Intrigue established, the audience has no idea who this kid is. Maybe it s the child of someone important or maybe this story is an allegory for something else. Before anyone can truly begin to ponder whether or not this movie about to turn really dark into suicide, the child lands on the dock of a sunken ship. Then the ship rises. This sequence is so well written and shot that it plays out beautifully on the big screen. A good film will always immediately grab the audience and start the narrative. The child creates a mystery and shocks the viewer, but the familiarity of a kid opening the film a reference perhaps back to the singing child of Dead Man s Chest and the legendary ship that rises from the water comes straight from Dead Man s Chest. While it may be a rational and more peaceful decision to remain under Great Britain s control, the oppression of the American colonies individualism is one that goes against common sense and is a situation that calls for a passionate revolution. The emphasis on individualism and passionate expression of the self during the late 18th and early 19th century is also exemplified in the musical realm through the revolutionary work of one of the most highly influential musicians, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. At the time of Mozart s birth, the most popular and conventional music was created in the style of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. After the discovery of Mozart s prodigal musical genius and honing his skill through several positions of employment, Mozart began to realize his individualism as a gifted artist. These sources of knowledge can be traced to historical theories that have been developed throughout recent history, and are critical to the understanding of how practical applications can be successfully used. It is also argued that modern students of management do not have the practical understanding or awareness of these historical theories because of the misguided curriculum and lack of interest (Cummings Bridgman, 2011).
