The United States Railway System
The United States railway system is almost as old as the nation itself. If it was not for the railway
system, our country may not have become one of the most lucrative superpowers it is today. Colonel
John Stevens is credited for first presenting the idea of building a railway in 1812. Mr. Stevens
probably did not expect the railway system to become the massive technological innovation it once
became. The railway systems in the United States originally consisted of carriages and wagons being
pulled down a track by a horse or two. This form of train was most commonly used for transporting
freight.
Luckily, Colonel Stevens received the first ever railway grant in 1815 to construct the New Jersey
Railroad Company. By 1826, Stevens tested the first steam engine train in the United States, known as
the Steam Wagon. The Steam Wagon relied on the power of steam to move. Coal was shoveled into
something called a firebox. The heat created from the burning coals was used to convert water into
steam. Smoke was released through the chimney while the heat boiled the water, which created steam.
The steam was then relocated to the cylinders through the steam pipes, where they created the power
to move the wheels of the train. It did take some time to build up enough steam to start move the train.
However when enough steam was built up, the conductors of the train would blow the whistle to
signal being ready to leave the station.
In 1827, the Baltimore and Ohio railway was

Response To Stress
When it comes to the factors that influence our response to stress, there are many and it involves many
and multiple organs and glands controlling both the endocrine and nervous system. These two systems
coordinate and communicate to make sure that our bodies know how to effectively deal with
challenges, but not so much to the point of hyper arousal or otherwise incapacitating anxiety. However
the act of balancing the two is tricky and both our brain and body do not always get it right. This
arousal though is necessary to ready our bodies for taking action. As we become more aware in
response to our stressors, our attention sharpens and our alertness increases. Meanwhile other aspects
fade into the background, such as the environment. The narrowed

Portfolio Investment Analysis
Introduction As a consequence of the expectation for earning a return, a portfolio investment is made
through the portfolio of the investment of securities. However, the investment s expected risk is
always significantly related to the expect return in portfolio construction. Compared to direct
investment, Portfolio investment is distinct in which a sizable target companies stake will be managed
day by day. The asset classes of Portfolio investments Portfolio investment managers will make a

However, high risk tolerances investor may not favour riskier growth stocks if they will retire soon.
Portfolio Investments for Retirement As for Investors who are saving for retirement, their investment
portfolio should be diversified with low cost investments such as index fund. As a consequence of the
minimum expense level among a number of asset classes, index funds are favoured by investors who
are saving for retirement. Therefore, the retirement portfolios will corely hold these types of funds. In
order to get a more hands on portfoilo, investors may add additional asset classes to their portfolio
mix, for instance, they can tweak portfolio allocations to add real estate, private equity, stocks and
bonds. Interestingly, the investments between you and other investors can be considered as a tug of
war. In tug of war, the best foothold should be gripped to win game. Similarly, in order to win the
investing game to get profit, you should make effort to manage your portfolio as well as possible.
Therefore, during the rest lifetime, the profit of share you take will be determinated by your decison
now or 10 years later in your Thrift Savings Plan account. In my opinion, it s essential to try to distill
this complex recipe for managing your investment portfolio down to its essential ingredients. What

Inequalities In America
There are many types of inequalities throughout the world, but the major ones throughout the United
States would most likely involve one s gender, one s background and also one s financial status.
According to the Merriam Webster, inequality is defined as, an unfair situation in which some people
have more rights or even better opportunities than others. Many of today s United States citizens came
into this country for the many benefits and opportunities one tends to hear about, but the negative
situations and outcomes are never discussed. Just like any other topic, inequality has both its positive
and negative outcomes, whether it is necessary to give those who want to succeed a bit of a challenge
to get to where they deserve to be, to even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If so then why is there something known as inequality! As was stated before there are two sides to
inequality, whether it is positive nor even negative. One of the major positive things coming from
inequality involves the idea that it is something that gives a person an urge with the incentive of
working hard to get to where they want to be. If they don t make as much money as they would like
to, they will definitely be a lot more motivated to work a lot harder in order to achieve that goal of
theirs. Those are the type of people who we want running our world, whether it is from being our next
doctor to even becoming the next president. It is quite different for everyone, a beautiful blond with
rich parents would definitely have a different experience than someone who migrated from Mexico.
Even though it may be easier for that beautiful woman to become successful, that does not mean
success is impossible for that one person who came to the United States for a better future. All it
would take would be hard work and dedication and anything is possible, for anyone even though the
world may think otherwise. This is only one of the few positive incomes of inequality, but there are
definitely more negatives than positives when it comes to this

The Ugly American Character Analysis
The Ugly American Writing Assignment
There are two types of Americans that are portrayed in The Ugly American. The two types of
Americans portrayed in The Ugly American are the ethnocentric Americans, who believe that their
ways are superior to all others, and don t really care about stopping the spread of communism; and
then there are the kind hearted Americans, who truly care about defeating communism. Through
multiple characters we learn how these two types of Americans think and how they represent not only
themselves, but their country.
The ethnocentric Americans such as Louis Sears and Joe Bing show the reader how ignorant some of
the Americans in the book are. They only cared about living a privileged life. These ethnocentric
Americans think they can do whatever they want however they want. Bing and ... Show more content

The authors want to show the reader how different cultures see Americans. It only takes one American
for another culture to either judge or appreciate the people and cuture that comes from being an
American. For example, any of the Sarkhanese people who had the chance to meet Joe Bing or Lou
Sears would most likely think that all Americans are a bunch of scum. Sears and Bing give off the
impression that Americans think they are the best of the best, that as an American they are entitled to
everything in world. But if you were Deong (before he turned communist) and got to Know John
Colvin or one of the Sarkhanese people that received help and information from Knox, then you
would think that Americans were very generous people. Unlike Sears and Bing, Colvin and Knox have
shown other cultures that Americans can be great people. It s the first impression that counts, and that
s exactly the authors point of characterizing the characters the way they did. They wanted to show
how a culture, such as the sahrkanese culture can come to a conclusion with the influence of just one

Automation Consulting Services
Executive Summary
Automation Consulting Services (ASC) has experienced rapid and tremendous growth, resulting in
several issues and problems within the company. Founders are worried the company is out of control
due to the increasing business practice conflict, inconsistency in entrepreneur spirit and increase in
office expenses. Thus they are considering documenting a long term company strategy, monitoring
office costs and centralizing the control in order to address these problems.
The purposes of this report are to:

While this was a generally accepted pricing practice within the office to control revenue, the
Executive Committee considered this as avoiding responsibility for poorly controlled projects and
being unethical to some clients. Thus, they are currently facing a dilemma regarding how they should
regulate the individual offices business practices without impacting the entrepreneurial spirit and local
autonomy of the company negatively.
The inconsistency in business practices stemmed from conflicting objectives between the parent
company and the acquired office. While the San Jose office is revenue driven, the Executive
Committee s objective is to maintain long term client relationships.
Detroit
As the Detroit office is the youngest office, it did not have sufficient time to develop its client breadth,
thus it currently has only three large clients. Instead of trying to diversify a client line, the partners
concentrated on the current large projects, which made up a majority of their revenues. Half of these
projects will be completed in the next couple of months and there are currently no new clients lined up
for the near future. As a result, more than half of the current staffs have no billable hours due to the
weak demand.

Why All Police Officers Should Carry Tasers
In this day and age self protection is always a key concern for many people. The fear of crime and
even the people who commit crime, there is always a chance that you could get robbed, caught up in
physical altercation, or even happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. People in general
approach these situations differently and prepare for these situations in different ways. Smart people
normally avoid putting themselves in situations like these by just avoiding problem areas thus
eliminating as much trouble as they possibly can. However, police officers put their lives on the line
daily, putting themselves on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel the answer is yes and here s why. Much of these reasons are based on my own experiences
working as a federal law enforcement official with the United States Coast Guard overseas and on the
home front. All police should have effective methods to divert to when criminals are hazardous or
uncooperative. Usually police officers carry pepper spray, batons, and a firearm. In many cases the
baton is seen as brutal or violent method to get suspect to cooperate simply by beating them. Then
there is pepper spray which I have had personally shot in my face with. The pain caused by pepper
spray is intense ... [and causes] an involuntary closing of the eyes, a gagging reflex, and temporary
paralysis of the larynx (Wu, 371). It is very effective but on the flip side if a officer sprays pepper
spray the odds that some of the spray gets on the officer is also very likely causing discomfort and
possibly impairing the officer for seeing properly if it blows back in his eyes. Also, pepper spray
sometimes has no effect on people under the influence of drugs. Third, there are firearms and let s face
it if a gun is involved odds are very high that someone ends up dead and that s never a good thing. I

Summary Of A Hero s Journey By Anthony
Before we had time even to move, nothing remained of the three master save some pieces of wreckage
floating on the surface and an army of rats covering the rocks left bare by the receding tide. Thousands
of heads rose, felt the wind, and we were scented, seen! To them we were fresh meat, after possible
weeks of starving. We were shaken from what we saw. We ran. We ran to the nearest closet and hid
inside. A cleaning supplies closet is where I hoped we would end up. There are many valuable tools to

to be eaten off by blood thirsty rats! If you listened carefully enough, you could hear the tiny

Santa Clause Argument
Santa Claus
This passage presents a discussion about arguments concerning the existence of Santa Claus. This is
an important debate for children everywhere because of the Christmas spirit that Santa Claus instills in
them. The two positions argue whether or not Santa Claus exists or not. Both viewpoints have valid
claims warranting consideration. For example, evidence indicates that Santa Claus is only imaginary.
In contrast, opposing evidence suggests that he is real. While both sides of the issue have valid points,
the claim that Santa Claus exists is the stronger supported, the position supported by a preponderance
of the evidence cited in the passages. The most convincing and forceful reasons in support of this
position are that he lives in a unseeable world, he is what brings joy to Christmas, and those who do
not believe in him are only skeptics. Accordingly, these reasons and opposing viewpoints will be
discussed next. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In support of this point, a great amount of the universe cannot be seen, and because of this, it is likely
that Santa Claus lives in that portion of the universe. In addition, if this part of the universe is
invisible, then there is no clout to the claim that he does not exist only because he cannot be seen.
Consequently, this is evidence in support of the case that there is a Santa Claus. The second relevant
point to make is support of the claim that Santa Claus does indeed exist is that he is what brings joy to
Christmas. For example, if there were no Santa Clause, Christmas would be as normal a time of year
as any. But, since Christmas is the most joyous and happy time of year, it proves that there is a
difference here. Additionally, there would be a far less joy at Christmas if there was no Santa Claus. In
short, the joy and festiveness of Christmas proves that there is a Santa

Global Warming And Climate Change Myths
If you want to go beyond that small percentage of people who are already environmentally and
scientifically aware, you have to make your work somehow link with a passion, interest, or profession
of someone who isn t interested in science or nature (Nalini Nadkarni, n.d.). Like most who are not
fully educated on a subject until they research it or take a course on it, I was not aware of the overall
importance or impact that environmental science had on my everyday life and the world around me.
One of the major things that have been brought to my attention in this course is environmental issues,
and what I can do to help improve them. One of the convincing arguments that have not only shaped
my attitude, but cleared a lot of things up for me was reading and learning about Global Warming and
climate change myths. One of the myths on the list that stood out to me was, They changed the name
from Global Warming to Climate Change (Global Warming Climate Change Myths, 2016). According
to the scientists, both terms actually mean two different things, and have both been used for decades,
proving that myth to be false. Another big myth that seems to occupy the minds of a very large part of
the world s population is, It s not an urgent situation. To this, scientists have responded (and I fully
agree) with, A large amount of warming is delayed, and if we don t act now we could pass tipping
points (Global Warming Climate Change Myths, 2016). Another topic that

Observation Of The Decatur Tribe
I have left my home planet, to go observe humans, which are one of the species that live on the planet
Earth. This paper looks at a specific the Decatur tribe that lives on one of the northern landmasses.
This tribe is an industrialized community that developed in an abundant natural habit. My
observations were from a spectator viewpoint and I did not have any contact with the humans. My
observation took place in one of their central gathering places. In this gathering place, there were areas
that were devoted to the trading of goods, to making and eating of meals and place to socialize.
Throughout this observation of human life, there seemed to be a very orderly way that the humans in
the Decatur tribe live their lives. Humans seem to be driven by a logical and ordered nature. Humans
have rules and orders the help shape their culture and how they interact with others.
Clothing
One of the ways that the order of their life can be seen how they cover their bodies. There was a
standard way that humans wear cloth to preserve modesty. Humans that did not conform to the
standards would stand out. Most humans had their torso covered. The amount of the limb that was
covered dependent on the human. Most of the male humans observed had both their upper and lower
completed covered. For females, it depended on how much of their limbs were covered. Many also
worn cloth that wrapped around both lower limbs, it of each limb being warped individual like the
males. Following this standard,

However, there are other alternatives that the organization could also explore, such as, loyalty
bonuses, employee recreation, and tuition reimbursement.
Loyalty bonuses should be directly linked to manager performance to recognize and encourage
employees to strive to run their operations effectively, efficiently, and collaboratively. Extrinsic
rewards could take many forms to include gym memberships, mini vacations, and they should also be
tailored to the employee to be more meaningful. Reimbursement for educational degrees and
certifications that are industry related conveys to managers that Tanglewood cares about investing in
their careers. Intrinsic rewards allow the organization to make a difference in retention efforts; and are
a valuable tool that can be utilized in employee motivation. Providing managers with a sense of
meaning, choice, competence, and progress are all ways to provide intrinsic rewards and motivation.
Typically, flexible working arrangements do not cost the organization any out of pocket expense and it
allows employees to have a better work and life balance. Tanglewood should establish programs, such
as, manager of the month to communicate wide spread recognition for employees who crave external
recognition. Intrinsic rewards are an inexpensive tool that Tanglewood should incorporate into their
retention efforts.

Presley Gender Roles Essay
According to our text, gender is the sense of being male or female... gender refers to the social
perceptions of maleness or femaleness. All cultures prescribe gender roles for males and females, but
these roles differ greatly between one culture to another (Feldman, 2016, p. 190).
The first time that Presley was really faced with gender related choices occurred just after she turned
four years old. It was a typical gender related choice scenario about what toys to play with. She was
trying to choose between playing with trucks, dolls, cooking toys or action figures. My partner and I
made a choice to not inflict our ideas on her ideas but to offer her the information she would need to
make informed choices. Regardless of the gender appropriateness, we chose to show her that men and
women can do the same things. For example, females can be tough and play sports and males can
cook and clean. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point my partner and I began trying to point out all of the things that men and women can both
do as well as changing out everyday stereotypical roles. For example, he has begun to help more with
the housework so that Presley can see that boys can cook and clean too.
At six and a half years old, it becomes clear that Presley identifies with me as the same sex parent
more than she does with my partner. She is more interested in doing the things that I do but luckily I
take on a variety of gender role tasks that allow her to see that women can do things that are
sometimes thought to be masculine. I encourage her to be a helper/ observer but I also encourage her
to engage in other traditionally masculine activities such as playing

The Age Of White Collar Crime
Welcome to the age of white collar crime. A time when the words thieves and businessmen go hand in
hand. White collar criminals don t get their hands dirty in their work. They use their heads to get what
they want instead of using a little muscle. These criminals are just as dangerous as the rapists and
murderers. In these times, even the most seemingly respectable people are suspected of white collar
crimes.
President Clinton and the first lady Hillary Clinton have been tangled up in the Whitewater and
Travelgate business ventures. Although the two have not been formally charged with any wrongdoing,
there is a committee currently investigating their dealings and charges are not out of the question for
either of them. In Michael Isikoff s and Mark Hosenball s Newsweek article Cracks in the Wall, they
describe the Clintons dealings with Whitewater and the possible consequences of them: The Senate
Whitewater committee is considering asking for perjury charges against Susan Thomas and Maggie
Williams, Mrs. Clintons chief of staff, in connection with her testimony about the removal of
documents from Vince Foster s office (Isikoff 29). This case goes to show that there presently a
growing problem with our country, and it is called white collar crime. White collar crimes are very
numerous in kind.

provided temporary housing units for the volunteers and displaced victims. Immediately after the
tornado, the American Red Cross set up shelters for the displaced victims and within two weeks of the
disaster they also had a long term recovery committee functioning. Along with the tremendous
response from public, private, and volunteer sectors the social media network contributed a huge role
in coordinating relief. Most notably the local churches of St. Paul and College Heights utilized
Facebook to contact churches outside of Joplin bringing in faith based organizations from all over the

Character Analysis Of Julius Caesar
Imagine being stabbed to death by people you thought were your friends yet still having people
worship you even after death. Julius Caesar was loved by many and hated by few. Those few
happened to be his companions . The conspirators were Brutus, Cassius, and Casca. Brutus for
example hated the fact that the Romans worshiped him so much. He believed that he had no real
personal reason to attack Caesar other than doing it for the general welfare. It was 23 stabbings to his
body that ultimately killed Caesar. In Are we evaluating political candidates all wrong? Claudio
Fernandez Araoz says that a leader should always have openness to change , capacity for growth , and
willingness to surround themselves with the best . Shakespeare makes sure that Julius Caesar
demonstrates these specific leadership traits in the play. He puts him in difficult positions and shows
how Caesar manages to do things for the good of the people. He also makes sure to mention Caesar s
rhetorical ways.
Part 1: Caesar the Leader
First of all, Caesar was a man who the romans seen as fit to rule over them, they practically worshiped
the ground he walked on. He demonstrated openness to change , this shows how he is able to adapt to
his own new decision making during a time of unexpected events. For example, Caesar goes and to

The Effects Of Texting On Children s Children
In the era of technology, a large number of people text by mobile phone every day. Gradually, the
telephone has been adapted to the needs of society and people also are more dependent on the
telephone. In fact, the standing of telephone was already changed from a technological tool to a social
tool (Marilyn, 2005). Texting is such an important communicate channel for teenagers, but what does
texting mean exactly? Texting is an action which describes not using proper English grammar to send
messages. Data suggest, 63% of all teens said they exchange text messages with other people every
day. Until today, this trend is still continue developing. The most teenagers all said they cannot leave
text in lives (Kuehn, 2012), does it affect school aged children in literacy? Absolutely yes. Literacy
includes writing and reading two different aspects, so the different aspects which impacts teenagers
are different. Therefore, texting affected teenagers in different four aspects and the analysis for reasons
will be showed in the following content. Firstly, writing format which teenagers normally use all is
neither formal nor standard and it has a great impact for them on writing quality. The informal writing

Innate Knowledge And Plato s Theory Of Knowledge
Theory of knowledge is a yield of doubt. When we seriously we really know anything at all, we innate
lead into test of knowing, in the hope of being capable to discriminate the trustworthy beliefs from
such as are untrustworthy.
Knowledge is the principal intellectual attainment studies of epistemology. Virtually all theorists agree
that true belief is a necessary condition for knowledge, and it was once thought that justification, when
added to true belief, yield a necessary and sufficient condition for knowledge. All of us have an innate
knowledge, concepts, forms, or universals that are an essential and inborn part that compose our mind.
Without this rational knowledge would be impossible. Innate knowledge is a field of epistemology,
which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since substances must be capable of independent existence, it appears that they cannot be universals
but must be particulars. However, this generated a dilemma since Aristotle also believed that only
knowledge were defined and the object of scientific knowledge ( Introducing Grace Wester Thinker ).
Thus if the substance is knowable, they cannot be particulars. But now it looks as if substance cannot
exist at all since they cannot be either knowledge or particulars. According to Plato, knowledge can be
gained by researching within, but Plato also addressed the common man s potential for achieving
knowledge despite his deficient condition in comparison to the Platonic idea. In the famous allegory
of the cave in the Republic, Plato offers a quite realistic view of the common man as being imprisoned
in a world of becoming. This prisoner takes pictures on the wall for reality. In order to feed from this
illustration, he has to turn around toward truth. The prisoners, however, are not able to turn around
themselves without help from the outside. But when the prisoner have a chance to go outside the cave
he realize that the true image he see in the cave has a true image in reality. Plato believes that one can
achieve real knowledge only if one focuses on the moral

How Race And Stereotype Can Affect Justice Being Served
. This play takes place in 1963, the year in which the Civil Rights movement was being fought for.
The main topic of this play is to understand how race and stereotype can affect justice being served,
and the only way around this would be to view facts and override race and stereotype with evidence.
The play beings in New York City in a jury room, there are 12 jurors and each of them seem very
flustered, not only because its hot and the fan won t work, but because the trial seems to almost be a
waste of time for these twelve people. We learn the case they are dealing with is between a son and his
father; the son supposedly stabbed and killed his father. The father and the son live near the slums
which is where colored people live. Almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this juror is puzzled at first he ends up growing confident in his vote and finds many facts to
back him up. In one incident he asks juror number two and juror number four who have glasses if they
sleep with their glasses on. They giggle and reply with no they do not sleep with their glasses on. Well
he uses this because the lady who witnessed the murder wore glasses, and in order for her to have
clearly been able to see the murder she would have to have her glasses on while she was in bed; since
that is when she witnessed the murder. Little by little the other jurors change their vote from guilty to
not guilty. And in the end justice is served and the boy is found not guilty. Juror number eight played
by Cameron Needham is key to this story because he is the one who is the only one with a vote not
guilty at first, and without him the boy would be found guilty. Juror number eight is very hesitant at
first when raising his hand to vote not guilty he raises it fairly slow as if scared of what the others
might think. As the play continues he is constantly on his feet and has his hands in his pockets most of
the time. This gesture of his hands in his pockets seems as if he is trying to protect himself from the
other jurors. Also, juror number eight being on his feet seems to show that he is nervous because he is
never in the same place for a long period of time. When the other jurors ask him questions or state
facts, he looks into their

A Good Day Gone Bad
Another good day gone bad I slowly pressed my foot down on the accelerator as I approached the
passing lane. I was tired of following the old man in his beat up, red station wagon at 25 miles per
hour. I needed to get to school! I was right behind him when I topped the little hill and entered the
passing zone. Such a relief. That s when I saw it... The warm September Monday morning was just
what I needed to refresh my mind. I had been stressed about schoolwork and was trying to keep up
with all of my activities. The nice sunny, warm morning made everything seem right and so calming. I
started the day at 7:00 a.m., when I was suddenly awakened by my bursting with sound alarm clock. I
obviously hit on it until I found the snooze button and rolled back over to catch a few more minutes of
sleep. Which is only nine more minutes of sleep. I then remembered I needed to shower and shave
before I went to school, so I had to get up and get on with my day. I had my usual breakfast, which
consisted of a bowl of cereal and a glass of orange juice sometimes I just drank water. I was running a
little late, but I still had plenty of time to make it to school. I went to brush my teeth, but I had to wait
for my little sister to get out of the bathroom, which made me even later. I grabbed my bags, after I
finished brushing my teeth, and headed out the door. I got into my brand new Bentley which I had
bought for myself after working for years, but I still had debt, and remembered I

Capital Gain History
History of capital gains
Because of its importance to wealthier and politically powerful people, capital gain tax has been
extremely controversial. These gains have been taxed from the beginning of the income tax, but the
rates and other provisions have changed frequently contributing to a baffling history. Ironically there
has been only two times when capital gain income was taxed same as ordinary income, once during
1913 1921 and later under TRA 1986. Rest of the time there was significant differential tax on capital
gain than ordinary income.
Between 1913 1968
From 1913 to 1921, capital gains were taxed at ordinary rates, initially up to a top rate of 77 percent
during World War I. From 1922 to 1934 the WWI after republicans regained the ... Show more content

The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 reduced capital gains tax rates and introduced a separate rate
schedule for long term gains. Introducing 10% rate for low income taxpayers (in 15% bracket) and

lower income bracket (i.e. 15% bracket) were reduced to 8% for asset held over an year. Capital gains
in the 28 percent and higher brackets on assets purchased in 2001 or later and, held for at least five

Archaeological Evidence Analysis
The purpose of this article is to document the first archaeological evidence in Australia both by death
by spearing and the use of backed artifacts as spear armatures before European contact. Furthermore
using barbed death spears as a ritual punishment was known to have happened in the Sydney region at
European contact, but not before then. So this finding would provide early archaeological evidence for
ritual payback killing by spearing, as well as be significant in understanding other archaeological signs
of the increase in social complexity across south eastern Australia due to the timing of the individual s
death.
During an excavation for electricity cables underneath a bus shelter in Narrabeen on Sydney beaches

The supporting evidence consisted of the position of the backed artifacts where the remains of founds,
the unhealed cranium trauma that was consistent with the peri mortem stone axe sound, and the fact
the remains dated the individual s death back to an era when backed artifacts production were at an all
time high. Also when it came to the idea of social complexity and death by spearing the finds had
great similarities to ethno historic literature; this showed ritual punishment as being connected
transgressions that took place during a ceremony or over visiting ritual

Hamlet Ghost Is Real Essay
Maybe he s real and maybe he s not, either way, the ghost certainly seems real to Hamlet. Throughout
Hamlet, both the reader and young Hamlet are in a dilemma as to whether or not the ghost of Hamlet s
father is a spirit sent to tempt and destroy Hamlet or if it is truly his father who has come to reveal the
tragedy of his death so that revenge can be sought. On the one hand, it is rather easy to believe that the
general Shakespearian attitudes and assumptions about apparitions are correct, that they are spirits
sent from hell to tempt and wreak havoc on the living. On the other hand, however, the reader, like
Hamlet, cannot help but feel compelled to listen to the ghost s tale about his death and his lack of
peace. Because of the verbal power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So It is clearly possible that the ghost as a father might just be a figment of Hamlet s imagination, as
Hamlet is also the only one who has a dialogue with the ghost and he s the only one who sees or hears
it when the ghost shows up, for instance, in Gertrude s chamber to remind Hamlet to be nice to his
mom. Even before Hamlet finds out that the ghost has been appearing on the castle walls, he says to
Horatio My father methinks I see my father [...] in my mind s eye Has Hamlet been imagining his
conversations with the ghost the whole time? Creating the ghost out of his wild imagination could be
Hamlet s way of dealing with the loss of the father he loved and idolized. Regardless of whether or not
the ghost actually exists though, the spirit perhaps represents the way young Hamlet is haunted by his
father s memory. Even though Claudius insists Hamlet s deep grief is unmanly and Gertrude pushes
Hamlet constantly to just move one, the prince just mentally and emotionally

  • 2. The United States Railway System The United States railway system is almost as old as the nation itself. If it was not for the railway system, our country may not have become one of the most lucrative superpowers it is today. Colonel John Stevens is credited for first presenting the idea of building a railway in 1812. Mr. Stevens probably did not expect the railway system to become the massive technological innovation it once became. The railway systems in the United States originally consisted of carriages and wagons being pulled down a track by a horse or two. This form of train was most commonly used for transporting freight. Luckily, Colonel Stevens received the first ever railway grant in 1815 to construct the New Jersey Railroad Company. By 1826, Stevens tested the first steam engine train in the United States, known as the Steam Wagon. The Steam Wagon relied on the power of steam to move. Coal was shoveled into something called a firebox. The heat created from the burning coals was used to convert water into steam. Smoke was released through the chimney while the heat boiled the water, which created steam. The steam was then relocated to the cylinders through the steam pipes, where they created the power to move the wheels of the train. It did take some time to build up enough steam to start move the train. However when enough steam was built up, the conductors of the train would blow the whistle to signal being ready to leave the station. In 1827, the Baltimore and Ohio railway was ... Response To Stress When it comes to the factors that influence our response to stress, there are many and it involves many and multiple organs and glands controlling both the endocrine and nervous system. These two systems coordinate and communicate to make sure that our bodies know how to effectively deal with challenges, but not so much to the point of hyper arousal or otherwise incapacitating anxiety. However the act of balancing the two is tricky and both our brain and body do not always get it right. This arousal though is necessary to ready our bodies for taking action. As we become more aware in response to our stressors, our attention sharpens and our alertness increases. Meanwhile other aspects fade into the background, such as the environment. The narrowed ... Inequalities In America There are many types of inequalities throughout the world, but the major ones throughout the United States would most likely involve one s gender, one s background and also one s financial status. According to the Merriam Webster, inequality is defined as, an unfair situation in which some people have more rights or even better opportunities than others. Many of today s United States citizens came into this country for the many benefits and opportunities one tends to hear about, but the negative situations and outcomes are never discussed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If so then why is there something known as inequality! As was stated before there are two sides to inequality, whether it is positive nor even negative. One of the major positive things coming from inequality involves the idea that it is something that gives a person an urge with the incentive of working hard to get to where they want to be. If they don t make as much money as they would like to, they will definitely be a lot more motivated to work a lot harder in order to achieve that goal of theirs. Those are the type of people who we want running our world, whether it is from being our next doctor to even becoming the next president. It is quite different for everyone, a beautiful blond with rich parents would definitely have a different experience than someone who migrated from Mexico. Even though it may be easier for that beautiful woman to become successful, that does not mean success is impossible for that one person who came to the United States for a better future. All it would take would be hard work and dedication and anything is possible, for anyone even though the world may think otherwise. The two types of Americans portrayed in The Ugly American are the ethnocentric Americans, who believe that their ways are superior to all others, and don t really care about stopping the spread of communism; and then there are the kind hearted Americans, who truly care about defeating communism. Through multiple characters we learn how these two types of Americans think and how they represent not only themselves, but their country. It only takes one American for another culture to either judge or appreciate the people and cuture that comes from being an American. Sears and Bing give off the impression that Americans think they are the best of the best, that as an American they are entitled to everything in world. But if you were Deong (before he turned communist) and got to Know John Colvin or one of the Sarkhanese people that received help and information from Knox, then you would think that Americans were very generous people. Unlike Sears and Bing, Colvin and Knox have shown other cultures that Americans can be great people. Much of these reasons are based on my own experiences working as a federal law enforcement official with the United States Coast Guard overseas and on the home front. All police should have effective methods to divert to when criminals are hazardous or uncooperative. Usually police officers carry pepper spray, batons, and a firearm. In many cases the baton is seen as brutal or violent method to get suspect to cooperate simply by beating them. Then there is pepper spray which I have had personally shot in my face with. The pain caused by pepper spray is intense ... [and causes] an involuntary closing of the eyes, a gagging reflex, and temporary paralysis of the larynx (Wu, 371). It is very effective but on the flip side if a officer sprays pepper spray the odds that some of the spray gets on the officer is also very likely causing discomfort and possibly impairing the officer for seeing properly if it blows back in his eyes. This is an important debate for children everywhere because of the Christmas spirit that Santa Claus instills in them. The two positions argue whether or not Santa Claus exists or not. Both viewpoints have valid claims warranting consideration. For example, evidence indicates that Santa Claus is only imaginary. In contrast, opposing evidence suggests that he is real. While both sides of the issue have valid points, the claim that Santa Claus exists is the stronger supported, the position supported by a preponderance of the evidence cited in the passages. The most convincing and forceful reasons in support of this position are that he lives in a unseeable world, he is what brings joy to Christmas, and those who do not believe in him are only skeptics. Accordingly, these reasons and opposing viewpoints will be discussed next. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, this is evidence in support of the case that there is a Santa Claus. The second relevant point to make is support of the claim that Santa Claus does indeed exist is that he is what brings joy to Christmas. For example, if there were no Santa Clause, Christmas would be as normal a time of year as any. All cultures prescribe gender roles for males and females, but these roles differ greatly between one culture to another (Feldman, 2016, p. 190). The first time that Presley was really faced with gender related choices occurred just after she turned four years old. It was a typical gender related choice scenario about what toys to play with. She was trying to choose between playing with trucks, dolls, cooking toys or action figures. My partner and I made a choice to not inflict our ideas on her ideas but to offer her the information she would need to make informed choices. • 25. Innate Knowledge And Plato s Theory Of Knowledge Theory of knowledge is a yield of doubt. When we seriously we really know anything at all, we innate lead into test of knowing, in the hope of being capable to discriminate the trustworthy beliefs from such as are untrustworthy. Knowledge is the principal intellectual attainment studies of epistemology. Virtually all theorists agree that true belief is a necessary condition for knowledge, and it was once thought that justification, when added to true belief, yield a necessary and sufficient condition for knowledge. All of us have an innate knowledge, concepts, forms, or universals that are an essential and inborn part that compose our mind. Without this rational knowledge would be impossible. Innate knowledge is a field of epistemology, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since substances must be capable of independent existence, it appears that they cannot be universals but must be particulars. However, this generated a dilemma since Aristotle also believed that only knowledge were defined and the object of scientific knowledge ( Introducing Grace Wester Thinker ). Thus if the substance is knowable, they cannot be particulars. But now it looks as if substance cannot exist at all since they cannot be either knowledge or particulars. According to Plato, knowledge can be gained by researching within, but Plato also addressed the common man s potential for achieving knowledge despite his deficient condition in comparison to the Platonic idea. In the famous allegory of the cave in the Republic, Plato offers a quite realistic view of the common man as being imprisoned in a world of becoming. This prisoner takes pictures on the wall for reality. In order to feed from this illustration, he has to turn around toward truth. The prisoners, however, are not able to turn around themselves without help from the outside. But when the prisoner have a chance to go outside the cave he realize that the true image he see in the cave has a true image in reality. Plato believes that one can achieve real knowledge only if one focuses on the moral ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. How Race And Stereotype Can Affect Justice Being Served . This play takes place in 1963, the year in which the Civil Rights movement was being fought for. The main topic of this play is to understand how race and stereotype can affect justice being served, and the only way around this would be to view facts and override race and stereotype with evidence. The play beings in New York City in a jury room, there are 12 jurors and each of them seem very flustered, not only because its hot and the fan won t work, but because the trial seems to almost be a waste of time for these twelve people. We learn the case they are dealing with is between a son and his father; the son supposedly stabbed and killed his father. The father and the son live near the slums which is where colored people live. Almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this juror is puzzled at first he ends up growing confident in his vote and finds many facts to back him up. In one incident he asks juror number two and juror number four who have glasses if they sleep with their glasses on. They giggle and reply with no they do not sleep with their glasses on. Well he uses this because the lady who witnessed the murder wore glasses, and in order for her to have clearly been able to see the murder she would have to have her glasses on while she was in bed; since that is when she witnessed the murder. Little by little the other jurors change their vote from guilty to not guilty. And in the end justice is served and the boy is found not guilty. Juror number eight played by Cameron Needham is key to this story because he is the one who is the only one with a vote not guilty at first, and without him the boy would be found guilty. Juror number eight is very hesitant at first when raising his hand to vote not guilty he raises it fairly slow as if scared of what the others might think. As the play continues he is constantly on his feet and has his hands in his pockets most of the time. This gesture of his hands in his pockets seems as if he is trying to protect himself from the other jurors. Also, juror number eight being on his feet seems to show that he is nervous because he is never in the same place for a long period of time. When the other jurors ask him questions or state facts, he looks into their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. A Good Day Gone Bad Another good day gone bad I slowly pressed my foot down on the accelerator as I approached the passing lane. I was tired of following the old man in his beat up, red station wagon at 25 miles per hour. I needed to get to school! I was right behind him when I topped the little hill and entered the passing zone. Such a relief. That s when I saw it... The warm September Monday morning was just what I needed to refresh my mind. I had been stressed about schoolwork and was trying to keep up with all of my activities. The nice sunny, warm morning made everything seem right and so calming. I started the day at 7:00 a.m., when I was suddenly awakened by my bursting with sound alarm clock. I obviously hit on it until I found the snooze button and rolled back over to catch a few more minutes of sleep. Which is only nine more minutes of sleep. I then remembered I needed to shower and shave before I went to school, so I had to get up and get on with my day. I had my usual breakfast, which consisted of a bowl of cereal and a glass of orange juice sometimes I just drank water. I was running a little late, but I still had plenty of time to make it to school. I went to brush my teeth, but I had to wait for my little sister to get out of the bathroom, which made me even later. I grabbed my bags, after I finished brushing my teeth, and headed out the door. I got into my brand new Bentley which I had bought for myself after working for years, but I still had debt, and remembered I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Archaeological Evidence Analysis The purpose of this article is to document the first archaeological evidence in Australia both by death by spearing and the use of backed artifacts as spear armatures before European contact. Furthermore using barbed death spears as a ritual punishment was known to have happened in the Sydney region at European contact, but not before then. So this finding would provide early archaeological evidence for ritual payback killing by spearing, as well as be significant in understanding other archaeological signs of the increase in social complexity across south eastern Australia due to the timing of the individual s death. • 31. Hamlet Ghost Is Real Essay Maybe he s real and maybe he s not, either way, the ghost certainly seems real to Hamlet. Throughout Hamlet, both the reader and young Hamlet are in a dilemma as to whether or not the ghost of Hamlet s father is a spirit sent to tempt and destroy Hamlet or if it is truly his father who has come to reveal the tragedy of his death so that revenge can be sought. On the one hand, it is rather easy to believe that the general Shakespearian attitudes and assumptions about apparitions are correct, that they are spirits sent from hell to tempt and wreak havoc on the living. On the other hand, however, the reader, like Hamlet, cannot help but feel compelled to listen to the ghost s tale about his death and his lack of peace. Because of the verbal power ... So It is clearly possible that the ghost as a father might just be a figment of Hamlet s imagination, as Hamlet is also the only one who has a dialogue with the ghost and he s the only one who sees or hears it when the ghost shows up, for instance, in Gertrude s chamber to remind Hamlet to be nice to his mom. Even before Hamlet finds out that the ghost has been appearing on the castle walls, he says to Horatio My father methinks I see my father [...] in my mind s eye Has Hamlet been imagining his conversations with the ghost the whole time? Creating the ghost out of his wild imagination could be Hamlet s way of dealing with the loss of the father he loved and idolized. Regardless of whether or not the ghost actually exists though, the spirit perhaps represents the way young Hamlet is haunted by his father s memory.
