Oligarchy Vs Autocracy
The type of government that will fit on my island would be democracy, because it is a system of the
whole population of the state. I chose democracy because I would want my island to have laws similar
to the ones of the United States. The reason why I didn t choose autocracy or oligarchy is because
autocracy is a system of one government which means one person makes laws and has all the power to
control how things work on the island. Oligarchy is a system in which the groups are small and have
little little ideas for the island. The island will need large groups with leaders that will be in charge of
certain things on the island this is why I think having democracy is better than the other two. You will
have more groups to help you organize

Essay On Isotopes
Isotopes from Greenhouse Gases and Air Toxics
Introduction
In recent years, the oil and natural gas industry has continued to expand to populated areas, thus
growing a concern for nearby communities regarding volatile organic compounds (VOCs) air toxics
and human exposure.1 Current screening methods to determine exposure of toxic VOCs such as the
family of Benzene, Toluene, Ethylene and Xylene (BTEX) requires a traditional gas chromatograph
(GC), which requires high energy use and its bulky size is not ideal for long term field deployment
and real time measurements. Sensor technology advancements have enabled the use of low cost
devices to measure VOCs, but require additional techniques for chemical speciation for BTEX
identification (i.e. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
VOCs are more complex hydrocarbons than CH4 that are emitted from biogenic and anthropogenic
sources. Biogenic VOCs include alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, aldehydes, etc. Generally, anthropogenic
VOCs are diverse and also include aromatic hydrocarbons, most importantly benzene, toluene,
ethylene and the isomers of xylene as major components (up to 75%).5 To say the least, there is a
wide chemical composition variety of VOCs released to the atmosphere. For my project centered in
the oil and gas industry, I will focus on the aromatic compounds BTEX. Studying the isotopic ratio of
VOCs can provide insight into the photochemical transformation and physical processing of ambient
VOCs.10 Recent isotope studies on VOCs has shown the stable isotopes of C within the compounds is
consistent with the kinetic isotope effect.10 Thus, the fractionation between the emission and the
observation can determine the extent of photochemical processing, other words the photochemical
age.10 The study of isotopes within VOCs has recently developed with Rudolph, et al., 1997 as a
method was introduced to measure VOCs at low mixing ratios (3 to 5 orders of magnitude smaller
than CH4).

Bill Gates Dropping Out Of Harvard
The world s attitude towards the personal computer may have been completely different if not for one
event: Bill Gates dropping out of Harvard. Gates came from a wealthy family in Seattle, Washington,
but even at a young age, he knew how to take risks in order to follow his passion for computers. The
developments that Microsoft has made, ranging from the earliest operating systems such as MS DOS
to the Microsoft Office Suite, have impacted the way that the personal computer operates. Microsoft
products are used around the world, by various types of customers, ranging from CEOs to elementary
school teachers and everyone in between. Both Gates and Microsoft have had a significant hand in
establishing the way the world interacts with computers.
Keira Stevenson summarized Gates rising love for technology in her article. Even in elementary
school, Gates could often be found cutting class to spend more time with the school s large computer.
Gates and childhood friend Paul Allen gained experience while playing around with their school s
computer. The two teens were later hired by a software company to seek out bugs in the company s
system (Stevenson). Gates intended on attending Harvard and following in the steps of his lawyer
father. After two years at Harvard, Gates dropped out in order to start Microsoft alongside Allen. The
two teens typically worked with the Altair 8800, which was one of the first inexpensive computers on
the market that was available for home use

American Sniper Themes
American Sniper tells the story of Chris Kyle, a U.S. Navy SEAL, who becomes one of the deadliest
snipers in American history. In his four tours of duty, his goal is to save the lives of his comrades, but
this makes him the most wanted man by insurgents in Iraq. Chris has to sacrifice his relationship with
his family at home in order to complete his duty, and when he finally returns home, he still cannot get
over the war. Clint Eastwood succeeded in his choice of cast. Bradley Cooper was a perfect actor for
this role because he accurately portrayed Chris Kyle s experiences and struggles. Cooper displayed the
actions of a veteran upon returning home from war, and this could not have been done in a more
realistic way. Sienna Miller played ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These items are detailed through Kyle s deployments. Eastwood successfully created images of what
the battlefield in Iraq looks like. In addition, he used symbols such as the American flag and the Navy
SEAL trident to express Kyle s pride for America. The themes of this film connect Kyle s struggles
with his family, deployment, and remembrance of war. Overall, the story line successfully depicts
Chris Kyle s life. The film begins with Kyle s childhood and training to become a Navy SEAL. The
rest of the film goes through Kyle s deployments in Iraq and his struggles with being a husband and
father at home. Having the film from the perspective of Chris Kyle makes the plot more effective than
if it were from another character s perspective. The character of Taya Kyle seemed to have a negative
aspect because she was against her husband going to war and she was overall a very one dimensional
character. The production of American Sniper by Clint Eastwood was very well done. The use of
montages to show Kyle s memories is successful in reinforcing his inner struggles. The continual use
of diegetic sound made the film even more real and put the viewer in a position as if they were
experiencing the war with the characters. When Kyle is killed by a Marine whom he was trying to
help, the film transitions to actual videos from his funeral procession in Texas, which makes the film

History of Educational Technology
History of Educational Technology Educational technology in a way could be traced back to the
emergence of very early tools, e.g., paintings on cave walls. But usually its history starts with
educational film (1900s) or Sidney Pressey s mechanical teaching machines in the 1920s. The first
large scale usage of new technologies can be traced to US WWII training of soldiers through training
films and other mediated materials. Today, presentation based technology, based on the idea that
people can learn through aural and visual reception, exists in many forms, e.g., streaming audio and
video, or PowerPoint presentations with voice over. Another interesting invention of the 1940s was

During the later Stone Age period (Neolithic period),for agricultural practice, polished stone tools
were made from a variety of hard rocks largely by digging underground tunnels, which can be
considered as the first steps in mining technology. The polished axes were so effective that even after
appearance of bronze and iron; people used it for clearing forest and the establishment of crop

their shift from nomadic life to agricultural settlement. Ancient tools conserved in different museums,
cave paintings like Altamira Cave in Spain, and other prehistoric art, such as the Venus of Willendorf,
Mother Goddess from Laussel, France etc. are some of the evidences in favour of their cultures.
Neolithic Revolution of Stone Age resulted into the appearance of Bronze Age with development of
agriculture, animal domestication, and the adoption of permanent settlements. For these practices
Bronze Age people further developed metal smelting, with copper and later bronze, an alloy of tin and
copper, being the materials of their choice. The Iron Age people replaced bronze and developed the

Bella Abzug Women
Not all women are capable of doing most jobs, but the same applies to men, and it took far too long
for this realization to flow across America. Not too long ago, it was even a struggle for women to be
able to take on the secondary positions in the workplace or any work at all. In her book Bella!: Ms.
Abzug Goes to Washington, Bella Abzug argued, the test of whether or not you can hold a job should
not be in the arrangement of your chromosomes (80). Fortunately, in today s day and age it is
uncommon for a woman to fail in a job search entirely because of her gender, but in the past that was
the case. Society created an idea that females were not good enough to hold their own job, so the duty
of providing for the family was left to their husbands. For years, the majority of society did not realize
that every individual has their own strengths and weaknesses, and neither men nor women are
automatically more qualified than the other. As Abzug was trying to emphasize, it should be genuine
ability that determines who is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, it has been proven through a multitude of research that the average female makes about
79% of the amount that their male counterpart would make. Even after achieving the victory of
making jobs for women a norm, women still struggle with the male advantage. As Susan B. Anthony
continued in Suffrage and the Working Woman, When she has attained ability to compete with them
and to do just as well in every respect she is placed at work, if at all, on half pay (Anthony). Although
some argue that the gender pay gap is nothing but a myth, the statistical facts show otherwise. While
those in positions of power and privilege attempt to thrust this issue out of the picture, it remains a
large problem that no woman should be unaware of. Unequal pay is a common issue for plenty of
women for far too long, and must be

The Impact Of Federalism
Federalism can be said to be the defining feature of all forms of American politics. Even as a literary
characteristic feature, America was the first nation to adopt federalism as a concept. Federalism is a
system of government whereby political power is divided between a national government and other
smaller political constituents such as states (Platt, 2014). Federalism, although not mentioned exactly
in the constitution, was supposed to be a concept that addressed the errors of the confederation (Platt,
2014). It was also supposed to be the lay the groundwork for what the future of American politics by
defining the type of government to be practiced. As it was expected to be, federalism has had an

Another example of this would be the election and in particular, the Electoral College. The system of
the Electoral College is one that portrays federalism i.e. share of power between state and national
government. The Constitution provides the framework of the system. Federal statutes stipulate aspects
of the process and give directions to states regarding the time of the election and certification of the
electoral vote. Federal statutes also give directions to Congress concerning the counting of the
electoral vote, and they provide a process for objections to the vote. Since each state is important
because it has to conduct its own election at the same time with other states, the laws of each state
specify the time and place of the meeting of the electors as well as other election provisions. Together,
these two governments, together with the constitution, create the Electoral College system (Edwin C.
Kisiel, III, page 12 13). Since laws at both the national as well as the state level govern the Electoral
College, it can be said that its foundation is rooted in

Lord of the Flies a Microcosm to Our Society
William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies significantly symbolizes characters, objects and the setting
to represent our world as a whole. Golding uses those symbols to make the island similar to society
and to show the difference between living in a civilised society and savagery. The novel takes place on
an island during World War II, this is significant since the isolation forms a sort of civilization and
community, a sort of microcosm to the real world and to human civilization.
Lord of the Flies island is similar to our society in many ways. There are certain objects that link the
island and our society. Firstly William Golding portrays the conch as a symbol for power, order and

Character Analysis Of Mr. Wills
Will J. The Taste of Melon: Mr. Wills Character Analysis Nov. 17 2017 In The Taste of Melon by
Borden Deal, the character of Mr. Wills is written as a round/complex character. Mr. Wills exhibits
three main traits throughout the story, and those traits do not change. First is his success as a farmer,
second is his emotional personality, and third is his intimidating and frightening demeanor and
reputation. While it may be easy to say that Mr. Wills is a dynamic character, his core traits never
change at any point in the plot. Only the way he is perceived by other characters changes.
The first main character trait of Mr. Wills is his success as a farmer. During the exposition of the plot
as the narrator is introducing all of its characters, he says Mr. Wills was the best farmer in the
community. (Deal, 131) as if it was common knowledge. The narrator s father chimes in when he says
...that he could drive a stick into the ground and grow a tree out of it. (Deal, 131) Mr. Wills appears to
show his technical proficiency in farming best when he is growing watermelons. As the narrator put it;
Other men, like Mr. Wills, can throw some seed on the ground, scuff some dirt over it, walk off and
leave it. And they ll have a crop of the prettiest, biggest melons you ever saw. (Deal, 131) This trait
did not change during the story; never was it revealed that Mr. Wills was putting fake watermelons in
his patch, or that he was importing prize melon seeds. From what is shown in the story Mr. Wills is
just a talented man.
The second main character trait of Mr. Wills are his volatile emotions. Beside the obvious examples of
him simply showing anger, such as When he plowed his fields you could hear him yelling for a mile.
(Deal, Pg. 131) There is also the example of him performing actions out of anger and then regretting
them later. Then I saw it, he was destroying every melon in the patch! (Deal, Pg. 137), and You ruined
the half of it, and I ruined the other. (Deal, Pg. 140) These quotes show that Mr. Wills has a tendency
to act brashly and then regret it. This is a trait that does not change through the story, instead it is fully
revealed near the end during the resolution of the plot

The next risk that emergency responders will encounter when responding to the scene of a terrorist
attack is the risk of structural instability. Structural instability can occur in buildings after a bombing
or fire and something more significant, such as when the planes were used in the World Trade Center
attacks. When a building s structure and integrity have been compromised, first responders may not
realize the extent of the damage while rescuing the injured, consequently leading to the building
collapsing on emergency personnel after they enter. After the attacks on the World Trade Center, the
collapse of the towers ended with over 400 emergency responders being killed (Thompson, et al.,

These types of airborne particles could lead to many health risks especially to first responders that are
at the scene of the attack. In order to protect emergency responders when responding to the scene of a
terrorist attack, emergency personnel should use masks to protect against these airborne particles.
While addressing the risk that first responders will encounter when arriving on the scene of a terrorist
attack, it is also important to discuss the lasting mental effects that emergency personnel will deal with
after the incident is finished. One concern would be that of the mental health of the first responders
because studies have shown that many of the emergency personnel that responded to the attacks on the
World Trade Center Towers in 2001 suffered from depression, post traumatic stress disorder, and panic
disorders following the attacks (Thompson, et al., 2014). One study conducted following the
September 11 attacks determined that rescue and recovery workers demonstrated a cumulative
incidence of depression of 27.5 percent, post traumatic stress disorder in 31.9, percent, and panic
disorder in 21.1 percent of the rescue and recovery workers that participated in the study (Wisnivesky,
et. al, 2011). This is an astounding number of rescue workers that had to deal with the lasting mental
effects from the scene of the World Trade Center attacks. Some of the rescue workers may not have

Themes Of Shelley s Frankenstein
Within the themes of Shelley s Frankenstein, one stands out. For a novel written by the daughter of an
important feminist, Frankenstein is unusually lacking of strong female characters. The novel is filled
with women who have a very little role before disaster occurs. In the quote above, Victor stops his
work on the second, female creation because he fears it will become worse than the first creation. At
this point in the novel, Victor has made a deal with the creation to construct a female creation to be his

starts to become skeptical, imagining that his new creature might become just as monstrous as the

Daisy Buchanan of The Great Gatsby and Brett Ashley of The Sun Also Rises
Written right after the publication of Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
is apparently influenced in many ways. The most obvious of Fitzgerald s influence is manifested in
Hemingway s portrayal of his heroine, Brett Ashley. Numerous critics have noted and discussed the
similarities between Brett and Daisy Buchanan, and rightly so; but the two women also have
fundamental differences. Compared to Daisy, Brett is a more rounded, complex character, and
Hemingway has treated her with more sympathy than Fitzgerald has with Daisy. Some similarities

Gatsby sinks into it, allowing his imagination to exaggerate until finally,
The colossal vitality of his illusion ... had gone beyond her, beyond everything. He had thrown himself
into it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time, decking it out with every bright feather that
drifted his way. No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly
heart (101).
That dream is also empty because Daisy is empty. Fitzgerald depicts her as an empty, useless and
dependent female who ultimately lacks definition. Whereas Gatsby works to pursue Daisy, Nick has a
regular job, and even Jordan has her tournaments; Daisy does not have a purpose, a profession, or
even a talent for anything. Her purposelessness is apparent in this scene with Jordan Baker:
We ought to plan something, yawned Miss Baker, sitting down at the table as if she were getting into
bed.
All right, said Daisy. What ll we plan? She turned to me helplessly. What do people plan? (16)
More literally, Daisy ruins Gatsby by killing Myrtle Wilson and letting him take the blame for it, thus
ultimately causing his death. Of course, one may argue that Gatsby himself is willing to take the
blame for her:
Was Daisy driving?
Yes, he said after a moment, but of course I ll say I was. (151)
But Gatsby is willing to take the responsibility because

Sociology Of Sex And Gender Essay

Sociology of sex and gender
Professor Taylor Houston
8th November, 2016.
My beliefs and view on the gender ideology towards work and family is more weighed on one side
(Masculine) and partly on the other (Feminine). It is evident that the Masculine gender is more
dominant in our society and because of this; there is more expectation and responsibility for the
masculine gender. However, there is a continual inclusion trend in which we are witnessing the
feminine gender assume some roles of the masculine gender. But overall, the masculine effect is still
dominant. I personally feel that there should be a good balance of work and family responsibility by
the men. It is necessary that the Men are mostly responsible for taking the role of the breadwinner of
the family therefore, the working hours of the men would have to be met as required by the employer.
For example, working 40 hours a week is the minimum in the US but varies in some other places. In a
case whereby the man has to take an overtime shift just to meet the needs of the family. The core
responsibility of a family depends on both the man and the woman. This also varies depending on the
family. In my opinion, I would expect both genders o take equal responsibility. The feminine gender is
mostly associated with the child care activities and the house chores while the Masculine gender is
associated with the providing for the family and helping the feminine gender. In as much as there will

It is creative because it doesn t use standard means to display and new creative ways to teach

This message is communicated by different methods one being a strong message of learning respect

A Research Study On Data Mining
Data mining is the process of discovering patterns, trends, correlations from large amounts of data
stored electronically in repositories, using statistical methods, mathematical formulas, and pattern
recognition technologies (Sharma n.d.). The main idea is to analyze data from different perspectives
and discover useful trends, patterns and associations. As discussed in the previous chapter, the
healthcare organizations are producing massive amounts of electronic medical records, which are
impossible to process using traditional technologies (e.g., Microsoft excel). Therefore data mining is
becoming very popular in this field as it can be used to identify the presence of chronic disease, detect
the cause of the disease, analyze the effectiveness of treatment methods, predict different medical
events, identify the side effects of the drugs, and so on. Kidney diseases such as CKD or AKI require
immediate detection and medical attention based on the patient s clinical condition, medical history,
medication history and some demographical factors. From the literature survey, we discovered a good
number of studies and tools that used data mining methods such as clustering, association, and
classification to improve the decision making ability of the healthcare providers regarding kidney
disease. In the subsequence sections in this chapter, we present an overview of the data mining
methods and discuss how they have been used in existing literature. 4.1. Overview of data mining

A buffer solution is which resists large changes in pH when the small amounts of an acid or a base are
added to it. The buffer can be calculated based on the equation of ionization pair of acid and conjugate
base. Any weak acid can be represented as HA and A as the conjugate base. This equation is based

The school leads the sex education and has the curriculum to first educate students. It is not only the
responsibility of the school or government; the parents also have responsibilities to teach their
children at home. According to A Parent s Guide, it says, Parents help their children form values about
relationships and behaviours and their sexual health. (Ontario, 2015) The schools, parents, and
communities are responsible for educations of children to feel involved in the changed and new
concept society has developed. Most parents tend to avoid this kind of communication with their
children. Parents are the most important role models to give the proper ideals on the issues. The results
and conclusions depend on the children, not the parents or communities. Parents should give the right
for the children to decide about the issues without forcing any specific opinions on them. Society
should give the opportunities to the children to face the challenges that come ahead, and make

Mending Wall Robert Frost Analysis
Tierra Nick
Professor Parker
ENG 202 01
20 November 2017
An Analysis of Frost s Mending Wall Mending Wall written by Robert Frost seems to take place in a
countryside estate. The speaker and his neighbor are fixing a wall together, which separates their
properties. Mending Wall is a poem that describes the relationship between two neighbors and idea of
maintaining barriers. This poem reflects how people make physical barriers and emotional barriers. A
barrier is an object that keeps something in or the unwanted out. The speaker wants to know why these
barriers are up. If we make a psycho analysis of the speaker through the present poem, we came to the
conclusion that the neighbour is no one but the inner self of the speaker (Srivastava 257). This wall is
nothing, but the gap between human beings on various aspects culturally, economically, and socially
(Srivastava 257). The wall is a basis for the many differences that people in our society have.
Throughout this poem, we see the speaker struggle to find a reason for having a wall that is separating
him from the neighbor. The speaker is valuing innovation over tradition. Although, the speaker is also
a man of tradition he is trying to rebel against the norms that frustrates him. The speaker does not
want a relationship with his neighbor. In line 1, Frost begins by saying Something there is that doesn t
love a wall . Frost seems to refer to something as anything in this world from humans to nature. This

Footloose Analysis
I saw Footloose, directed by John Wilson and written by Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, on Thursday in
the Highlander Theatre at UCM. The story is about a high school boy who moves to a small town with
his Mom after her divorce. He is an outsider, and is surprised to find that it is against the law to dance.
Then, he decides to take a stand and fight the law so that everyone in the town has the right to express
themselves through dance. John opened the show with his director s note, and gave a spiel about what
he believed the audience should take away from the show. His goal was for us to make a connection
with how the youth and the adults found a way to work through their problems by talking it out. I
believe this is an extraordinary message in today s society as technology is embraced by the youth and
shunned by the older generations. However, I believe that other parts of the show, such as the
relationship between the reverend and his wife, had a much larger impact than the message that he had
hoped to send. There were many parts of the acting that I believe if worked on would have given the
show substantially more impact. Granted, it is incredibly difficult to portray a character, and a scene,
in such a way that the audience loses themselves in the story and is able to empathize with what the
characters are feeling. However, the two major scenes that were meant to drive in the message that
John hoped to send were simply underwhelming. The first scene that didn t hit

Privacy In Adonis Lloyd s Life
Lloyd was a man who appreciated privacy. It was one thing he had forever valued above all else. He
held his own privacy in such high esteem that the location and memories of his childhood home,
family and every event of his past were familiar to no one but he. This state of mind had not been
triggered by a tragic or traumatic event, nor by an unpleasant childhood, this was simply the way
Adonis elected to live his life. Even though a man like he, with such a fervent requisite for
confidentiality and secrecy, there had been a scarce few moments that the small number that he
deemed sacrosanct were allowed a glimpse into the lone soul that was Adonis Lloyd. The only known
few were those who had endured with him the hardships of war by his side. ... Show more content on

Adonis found small pleasure in the intricate details that allowed LA to be a city without being one at
the same time, it was just a flat and populated suburb. The powerful smell of the Californian ocean
was somewhat muffled by the thick stench of exhaust fumes that plumed from the cars that plagued
the roads like rats that plagued the streets. Scurrying amongst the rats were the fleas that attached
themselves to them and infected the city. Although completely repugnant to few, Adonis found humor
in the irony of the city, a city on the verge of greatness had the look and feel of one in medieval times.
War s effects on daily life had allowed the inhabitants of the once glorious city to run rampant and
completely prevented any moral authority to take control and extinguish the lustful fire of the

For many Marilyn Monroe was an idol. Several people wanted to look like her, be like her. They
wanted Marilyn s life, her clothing, her fame, and of course, her money. But Marilyn s life wasn t
always all that great. On June 1st, 1926 Norma Jean Baker a.k.a. Marilyn Monroe was born to Gladys
Mortenson in Los Angeles California. Gladys was a paranoid schizophrenic. Norma Jean grew up in
foster homes and didn t get much of an education. Which would probably explain a lot of her choices
later on in life. After her sixteenth birthday in 1942 Norma married a man that she called Daddy. She
married him to avoid having to be moved to another foster home. Norma worked at the Radio plane

Religious Beliefs In Judaism
Judaism Beliefs Sacred Symbols
Beliefs
Judaism is one of the most traditional religions there are. It is under the Monotheistic religions,
meaning they are in the belief that there is a single G d, unlike other religions that believe in multiple
G ds. As well as Judaism, Christianity and Islam practise the monotheistic form.
There are many other things that the people of the Judaism religion believe in. Some of these include;
Prayer is to be directed to G d alone and to no other, the words of the prophets are true, Moses
prophecies are true, and Moses was the greatest of the prophets, The Written Torah (first 5 books of
the Bible) and Oral Torah (teachings now contained in the Talmud and other writings) were given to
Moses, there will be no other Torah, G d knows the thoughts and deeds of men, G d will reward the
good and punish the bad, the Messiah will come and also the dead will be resurrected. While Judaism
isn t the strictest of religions, they do still follow quite a strong list of beliefs and regulations.
The history behind the different beliefs that Jewish people have, and follow, all revolves around the
scriptures written in their holy book , the Torah. Some of the different beliefs that the Jewish people
have around G d, is that some of the Jewish people believe G d is an external force, that is someone
that exists outside of the universe who listens to prayers, and controls lives, creates miracles, and
judges. They however aren t in the belief that that

2008 Crisis Essay
Having said that, there was an even bigger surprise. Economists and regulators, who are supposed to
understand and use history, also did not learn from these experiences. Perhaps they were blinded by
the political climate of the time. It is always hard to disagree with the established science of the time.
After all, there was a time when everybody knew the world was flat. Only the insane thought
otherwise.
Thanks to government interventions (bailouts, wage and price controls, minimum wage levels)
negative market behavior was encouraged. Risk management was not seriously considered.
Effectively managing risk was still considered to be merely a factor limiting profit making. The heroes

The 2008 financial crisis was the biggest crisis since the 1930s. What has been referred to as the 2008
crisis, or the 2008 meltdown, or the Great Recession, has been considered by many to have actually
started in August of 2007.
But, more importantly, the 2008 financial crisis made the US economy, and most of the Western
economy, a bad joke. The West s greatest minds, and the West s highest income nations, did not
understand or anticipate the financial disaster the US had created. People all over the world started
suffering in 2008 and 2009. They would continue to suffer for years. The elite had failed to appreciate
or even understand history s economic lessons. Economic theories of the elite assumed that a major
financial crisis was highly unlikely. They were, of course, wrong.
Various radical policy measures were used to deal with the massive 2008 problem. These measures
included the bailout of the commercial banking system, a huge monetary expansion, and the
accumulation of massive fiscal deficits. These measures, particularly Bernanke s monetary
experiment, may have avoided another Great Depression. The evaluation of this issue will only be
objectively decided in looking back many years from now. Even so, by 2017, these measures had
failed to return a stable and robust economy to the

Dantes Inferno Essay
Dante s use of allegory in the Inferno greatly varies from Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; in
purpose, symbolism, characters and mentors, and in attitude toward the world. An analysis of each of
these elements in both allegories will provide an interesting comparison. Dante uses allegory to relate
the sinner s punishment to his sin, while Plato uses allegory to discuss ignorance and knowledge.
Dante s Inferno describes the descent through Hell from the upper level of the opportunists to the most
evil, the treacherous, on the lowest level. His allegorical poem describes a hierarchy of evil.
Conversely, Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; describes the ascent from ignorance to
knowledge, as one prisoner is freed to make his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
175) This quote describes the punishment for fortune tellers. In life the fortune tellers foresaw the
future.
In death they are doomed to exist with their heads on backwards and their eyes overflowing with tears
so that not only could they not see what was happening in front of them, but they could not see at all
due to these copious amounts of tears. Similarly, each sin had its own logical punishment, and each
group of sinners received the same punishment, with only a few exceptions. Such an exception can be
found in Canto XXlll when Caiaphas lies crucified on the floor while the other hypocrites walk around
him in circles. He is set apart because he counseled a Roman to crucify Jesus. While the sinners
represent man s imperfections, Virgil symbolizes human reason.
Throughout the poem, Virgil uses logic and reason to convince the monsters to allow him to gain
passage to the various circles of Hell. The use of characters and mentors is distinct in each piece.
quot; The Allegory of the Cave quot; presents few characters, and except for the one prisoner who
ascends from the cave, none are distinguished from the others. The one freed prisoner attempts to
become a mentor to the others but fails.
As he tries to enlighten the remaining prisoners he is received with anger and threats. Nothing is
learned about the characters as individuals. They remain nameless, faceless images. In contrast, there
are numerous characters in the Inferno. The sinners are arranged in

His son was Solomon, who reigned after his father. David died at age 70 and was buried in Mount

Edmund Andros the governor prior to the Glorious Revolution was known for being an extremely
strict man that strongly supported the Navigation acts and this is one reason why he was overthrown
by Leislor. The rebellion established a rebellious attitude towards British domination, and reinforced
the idea that the colonies were subject to British rule by their free will. The War of Regulation was
caused by corruption in the government. Officials were unfair and corrupt. Many of the officers were
deemed to be very greedy and oftentimes would band together with other local officials for their own
personal gain as they sometimes stole tax money along with other things. This war ended with the
rebels winning and the regulators were forced to leave. This rebellion was different from the other
rebellions for the fact that it did play a role in giving people the confidence to have an American
Revolution as the regulators ended up becoming tories while the rebels ended up becoming patriots.
The causes of this rebellion were similar to the others as people were unsatisfied with the way the

How Technology Has Affected Healthcare
Our world runs on technology. The introduction of the home personal computer and the internet
launched our society to a modernized, technology depended community. Vast array of information are
available to us every minute of every day. If any of us have a question that we needed the answer to,
all we have to do is use Bing or Google or some other search engine and search for the answer. It is so
easy now to obtain information. Furthermore, technology has greatly affected healthcare. Due to the
technological advances in medicine, our society has the longest life span in history. Illnesses such as
infections, wounds and other ailments that used to be fatal can now be cured by simply ingesting
medicine. An aspect of medicine that is gradually becoming the focus of technological advancement is
surgery. Surgeries can now be performed with the help of robots. The utilization of these robotic
surgical systems is one of the main controversial issues many physicians debate about. The
uncertainty as to what extent technology should influence medicine makes this issue interesting.
Robotic surgery was first imagined from the idea that surgeons can operate on a patient without being
in the same room, which was explored by NASA and the military in the 1970s and 1980s. The first
ever surgery system that uses robotic technology is the da Vinci Surgical System. The da Vinci
Surgical System was approved by the FDA in 2000. This system includes a camera arm and

A Cochlear Implant Is An Electronic Device That Substitutes
A Cochlear Implant is an electronic device that substitutes the damaged part of the inner ear to send
signals to the brain. It is used by profoundly deaf or severely deaf people. The first Cochlear Implant
was invented in the year of 1961 by Dr. William F. House. He was an american otologist, medical
researcher, and physician, born December 1st, 1923 died December 7th, 2012. Dr. William F. House
started the process of developing the Cochlear Implant during the late 1950s, after obtaining
knowledge of other experiments going on. He decided to put his focus on ear, nose, throat and later
decided to focus strictly on the ear when parents brought him two young kids they believed were deaf.

Secondly the sound processor forwards the codes to what s called the coil on the outside to the
implant. After that the implant changes the code into electrical pulses and sends them out through the
nerves. Lastly the cochlear nerve is stimulated and it sends out waves to the brain that are interpreted
as sound. Over time the cochlear implant has had technology advances as well as the size becoming
smaller and easier for deaf people to use. This surgical implant has both its benefits and disadvantages
for the deaf. One of the benefits of the Cochlear Implant is the hearing improvement, people with
them have the ability to interact more from hearing conversations, makes it to where less effort is
needed to understand others. It also helps children in school, present and future. The overall benefit
for everyone is they ll be able to adventure out more and it keeps them safer being able to hear. The
downside of the implant is how expensive the process is, and how many people have to pass up the
opportunity because of the cost. Another is that the sounds can be hurtful at first to the person and
adjusting could take time. The procedure for the Cochlear Implant is a disadvantage as well because of
the risk that all surgical procedures have, and the damage that could happen to the ear itself or face.
The deaf community s feelings about the Cochlear Implant is controversial, some believe that if one is

The Vikings And The Viking Age
The Vikings were Norse seafarers, who mainly spoke the Old Norse language. They raided and traded
from their Northern European homelands across wide areas of northern, central and eastern Europe,
during the 9th to 11th century. The Vikings originated from Scandinavia, and the beginning of the
Vikings expansion often originates from the raid of the Lindisfarne Monetary on 8 June 793. The
Vikings were the first Westerners to sail to Iceland, Greenland, and over to the New World. However,
the story of the Vikings is also an important story for the development of the Christian world in the

The reason for the Vikings leaving their homelands and venturing off on trade missions, raids,
explorations, and new settlements is largely unknown, due to a lack of evidence (Vikings weren t huge
fans of writing down their day to day lives and history.) However, it can be speculated that they left
for a few reasons. The first of those reasons was to escape forced conversion to Christianity by
Charlemagne. The Vikings had their own unique religion which differed heavily from Christianity.
Add to this the fact that Christians don t have the best history with accepting other beliefs, it is
understandable that the Vikings may have feared Christian conversion and sought to find new lands to
escape. This fear of conversion was a large part of the Saxon wars affecting Germanic peoples. It s
worth noting the irony of the Vikings leaving their homeland in fear of Christian conversion
considering their leader Harald Bluetooth (935 985), who was the King of Norway and Denmark,
eventually converted the Vikings himself to Christianity. The second reason for the Vikings suddenly
migrating may be due to their beliefs in relation to inheritance. Vikings gave their first sons all
acquired land, this caused younger sons to venture off on their own to gain their own property.
Regardless of the reason, the Vikings ventured off in their long ships to raid, pillage,

Theme Of Family In The String Of Pearls
Another issue it caught my attention is the fact that family is assumed to be the only one who is
always there for helping you, however, in this novel, family is everyone s only enemy. In Victorian
period, the idea of family as sacred was expanded through cultural media, social or political discourses
and education. Novels like this which included marriage and domesticity contained debates of love
and family either principal or secondary story. These kinds of work made people see family as a
source of real happiness, despite the fact that abhorrent mistreatment happened in many households. It
would be interesting considering what Marry Strauss, a domestic violence expert, says about this
issue; With the exception of the police and military, the family is perhaps the most violent social

Who s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf Character Analysis
1. Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf begins with a very tranquil stroll home from a party, before the
viewer is aware of Martha s drunkenness and George s exasperation. These several shots of the couple
holding onto each other and moseying their way down the sidewalk help concrete the statement that
despite what occurs between these two characters, they are still very much companions who have no
one else to turn to. Despite this, their conformity to the pre packaged values of their culture obscures
this recognition (pp. 30). Therefore, George and Martha rely on an illusion that has taken over their
lives in order to function as a practical married couple in a culture obsessed with power and
objectified control (pp. 29). The main characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carnal Knowledge and The Fortune were both movies that fell flat, both with the populations of the
time at which they first arrived in theaters, but also with our class. Both employ characters that serve
to illustrate a moral rather than for the audience to relate with, and a dry humor which has arguably
grown outdated. Mise en scene is everything inside the shot that the director has control over. One
example of mise en scene in The Fortune is the framing of the camera shots themselves: when Oscar
and Nick take Frannie in the trunk to be thrown overboard and in the framing of that camera shot, the
headlights of an oncoming car can be spotted and follow throughout it s entire ascent toward the
camera. The Fortune also used this wide shot to explore depth of field in the final shot of the movie
when the entire courtyard is centered around the fountain, and the viewer can see the landlady

Analysis Of The Movie Coal Miner s Daughter
Component Paper Draft Some of us keep asking for American movies that speak of the variedness of
America. Much of the time, this picture does part of that job. It means a lot more to me than the
bloated Nashville [1975], with its strain to be an All American metaphor. Stanley Kauffmann, New
Republic, 1980 review on Coal Miner s Daughter . Film are stories about peoples experiences and one
film that tells of a woman s experience road to fame is Coal Miner s Daughter this film tells the story
of how Loretta Lynn became the the queen of country and does a wonderful job. It shows the
hardships and glories that come with being in the spotlight as well as the struggle of maintaining a
relationship with her husband and family. In able to tell a great story, it depends on the work that is put
into many of the aspects of film. If one person does not do their job correctly, then the film may lack
creatively. Parts of Coal Miner s Daughter that helped to make it a great film are art direction,
costumes, makeup, visual effects, sound design, editing, music, script, performance, direction, scene
analysis, and historical analysis. All these elements of the film combined help make Coal Miner s
Daughter an exceptional and intriguing film. If even one of these elements of film were lacking the
movie would suffer, but all components come together to tell a story about a woman that changed the
world of country music. In order for a film to be believable the world of the

Understanding The Current Epistemological Understanding
1. Describe your current epistemological understanding. Comment on the following issues: a. Does a
real world exist? In what form? Yes, a real world does exist. It is independent of the mind as the world
we live in is tangible, visible, and created with a purpose. As a Christian, I know the world exist
because God created it and recorded the creation story in Genesis. Additionally, God created
knowledge and wisdom including, general revelation. General revelation holds people accountable for
knowing the Maker of the Universe. The world exists in two forms an earthly form and a spiritual
form. The earthly form is the universe we live in and the spiritual form is Heaven. Although, we may

Moreover, when it comes to implementing Biblical principles into my classroom, I can be confident
that what I am teaching is accurate, true, and unchanging. The Bible is absolute truth and the basis for
righteous living. The implications for teaching my students, based off of the information I give them
or they discover, will include the history behind the information they are learning. For example, when
teaching mathematical formulas or principles, I can inform my students about the philosophers and
mathematicians who came before them and discovered the information. In terms of biblical
integration, I can explain to my students the biblical truths in a way that is applicable to their everyday
lives. Additionally, I will have the understanding that knowledge is not absolute and a continuum of
learning should be taking place at all times. I will always be learning new things and will be able to
implement them into my classroom. c. As a teacher, will you ever consider that what you teach may be
wrong? On what basis will you evaluate the accuracy of what you teach? I will base the accuracy of
the content I teach my students upon the evidence of the accuracy of the material. I will use textbooks
from a reputable source(s), as well as researching the material being taught. Additionally, I will align
the material I teach with the state standards. Although, I will be confident in the content and
information I am teaching my students, I also realize that new

Benefits Of Long Island Wines Essay
Long Island wines have begun to catch the attention of wine experts around the world. After nearly
forty years, the region continues to grow and improve. Long Island wines are proving themselves
worthy of respect. The best have a style all their own attributed to terrior, with moderate alcohol,
intense aromatics and crisp acidity. Long Island wine region is the largest producer of European wine
grapes in the Eastern United States and a quality leader in the New World. (LISustainableWine.org
2015; Ruckdeschel 2013). Suffolk County, on New York s Long Island, benefits from farming
practices with a diversity that is unique within the state as well as the nation. The region s farmers
have been inspired by the foodie ethos , and strive to meet the call for locally grown products in an
environmentally sustainable fashion. This is especially evident in the region s viticulture and wine
making industries as they attempt to protect a fragile ecosystem (Nigro 2015). The American
Viticulture Area that encompasses the region is divided into three Appelations; The North Fork of
Long Island, The Hamptons, and Long Island. There are sixty vineyards that range in size from two
and a half acres to over five hundred. Wine makers in region total fifty six, with forty seven on the
North Fork, four in the Hamptons, and five in Western Suffolk County. Current production totals some
five hundred thousand cases equaling one million two hundred thousand gallons (Ruckdeschel 2013).

Charles Dickens Defining Moments Essay
As individuals mature, they often have defining moments that distinguish the transition from child to
adult. Defining moments often come at major crossroads, where individuals make one decision,
during a situation with unencountered gravity and urgency. In the 19th century novel, Great
Expectations, Charles Dickens describes the importance of defining moments and how they provide a
transition into adulthood. Dickens urges society to always endure through conflicting moments and to
knowingly make sacrifices in the name of progress. If individuals embrace their conflicting
experiences, they can become defining moments of great consequence. The diorama presented
describes the importance of defining moments and their inherent difficulties, and ... Show more

The boat chained to the dock represents the decision Pip must make, and how maturation requires
sacrifice. The three chains describes each of Pip s three stages of growth, and how the defining
moment leaves behind all previous growth to experience and undertake an unknown challenge. In
order to leave complacency, Dickens stresses a need to break the chains that bind individuals to their
perceived safe havens. As a result, the decisions that make up defining moments never come without
dispositional struggle: We had all shaken hands cordially, and neither Herbert s eyes not mine were
quite dry... (444). By describing Pip s begging and the territoriality of Pip towards his comrades,
Dickens shows the internal conflicts of defining moments. The paths show a trail to both the inn and
an unknown path on the other direction, showing Pips ability to leave behind his endeavours and
escape to the lifestyle he knows. Nevertheless, Pip perseveres, just as Dickens encourages society to
endure hardships in pursuit of a greater purpose. Despite the sense of place that develops through
complacency, Dickens urges growth and change rather than satiation. Dickens recalls the effects of
such defining moments by describing Pip as an adult, now mature and aware of his place in society: I
work pretty hard for a sufficient living, and therefore Yes, I do well (491). Due to the importance of
such decisions, Dickens urges individuals to not fear sacrificing comforts in order to best promote

Judicial Branch Vs Executive Branch
Separations of powers is a principle of the United States government, giving powers and
responsibilities that are divided among the legislative branch, executive branch, and judicial branch.
Checks and balances are certain powers that each branch of our federal government have to check on
each other and make sure one branch isn t doing something against the Constitution. These balances
between the branches ensure that no branch becomes too powerful. Preventing this means that all of
the branches are equal and balanced and allows a fair federal government for the people.
The branch that has the greatest amount of checks over the other branches is the legislative branch.
They have the most checks over the other branches for many reasons. One reason is that this branch
has the most people in it, combing both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Also, this branch
is the most directly elected by the people and has people from every state. So, giving the branch that is
the largest and is closest to the people is a good idea. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can do this if it gets a 2/3 vote in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, limiting the
President s powers. The legislative branch also checks on the judicial branch. It can do this by
impeaching judges that are accused in the House and found guilty by a 2/3 vote in the Senate. On the
other hand, the executive branch can also check back on the legislative by vetoing laws that the
President thinks are unconstitutional. Furthermore, the President (executive branch), can pardon any
person convicted of a federal crime, outrunning and overruling the judicial branch s decision. Finally,
the judicial branch, while considered the weakest, also has checks on the other branches. Its check on
the legislative branch is declaring laws that it creates unconstitutional. Similarly, it can declare
executive acts

The Importance Of Mathematics In Education
In this paper, I will be writing about the math curriculum, including geometry, taught in schools across
America in grades first through twelfth. In addition, I will also discuss what students in other countries
are taught in the areas of mathematics. Then, we will look at the level of mathematical knowledge of
students in the United States compares to those other countries. Finally, we will find out if there is a
way we can improve our educational system to better our future generations understand of
mathematics. First, we will briefly discuss the importance of learning mathematics at an early age.
One of the most important reasons it is important for children to learn mathematics is that is teaches
critical thinking skills. Sometimes what students learn in math is not so much important is that it is
teaching students how to think. Some math concepts are very involved and not regularly used but if a
student can understand those they will be prepared when faced with real world problems.
Understanding basic math is also an important of basic life. regardless of occupation, people will need
to use numbers in their finances and other areas. In addition, math is used across many fields to solve
problems. Basic calculus principles are the foundation to engineering. In the United States, education
standards are regulated by state governments. From kindergarten to twelfth grade, the states decide
what will be in their curriculum. Starting in 2010, a set of math and english

Canadian Football Game Analysis
There were no Canadian teams in the playoffs For the first time in 46 seasons, there were no Canadian
teams in the NHL playoffs. The last time this occurred was 1969 1970 season where there were only
12 teams in the league and two from Canada being the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs.
The league has grown to 30 teams (and is in the process of expanding), with seven of them being
north of the border. Although there are only seven teams representing the red and white, it surprising
to think that none of them qualified, considering that last season five out of the the seven teams were
in playoffs (except for Toronto and Edmonton). Each team had their reasons for why they didn t make
it. Toronto s first season under Mike Babcock was one to forget since they are in the rebuilding
process and finished 30th overall with 69 points. The Leafs also traded away star players Phil Kessel,
captain Dion Phaneuf, and James Reimer in order to start from scratch and create a new team identity.
They are looking to improve after securing the first overall pick in the upcoming draft and will most
likely take prospect Austun Matthews to help get them back to the playoffs after being out since the
2012 2013 season. Edmonton finished one point above Toronto and are still looking to make it to the
postseason after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The team went from being a team who missed out on the playoffs last season to appearing in the
Stanley Cup Final, a notable turnaround under first year coach Peter DeBoer. The games were thrilling
considering two games went to overtime and neither team was blown out. In the end San Jose was
unable to match the speed that Pittsburgh had and Matt Murray was able to make the necessary saves
to win games and became the fifth rookie in NHL history to lead his team to the Stanley

  • 2. Oligarchy Vs Autocracy The type of government that will fit on my island would be democracy, because it is a system of the whole population of the state. I chose democracy because I would want my island to have laws similar to the ones of the United States. The reason why I didn t choose autocracy or oligarchy is because autocracy is a system of one government which means one person makes laws and has all the power to control how things work on the island. Oligarchy is a system in which the groups are small and have little little ideas for the island. The island will need large groups with leaders that will be in charge of certain things on the island this is why I think having democracy is better than the other two. You will have more groups to help you organize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Isotopes Isotopes from Greenhouse Gases and Air Toxics Introduction In recent years, the oil and natural gas industry has continued to expand to populated areas, thus growing a concern for nearby communities regarding volatile organic compounds (VOCs) air toxics and human exposure.1 Current screening methods to determine exposure of toxic VOCs such as the family of Benzene, Toluene, Ethylene and Xylene (BTEX) requires a traditional gas chromatograph (GC), which requires high energy use and its bulky size is not ideal for long term field deployment and real time measurements. Sensor technology advancements have enabled the use of low cost devices to measure VOCs, but require additional techniques for chemical speciation for BTEX identification (i.e. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... VOCs are more complex hydrocarbons than CH4 that are emitted from biogenic and anthropogenic sources. Biogenic VOCs include alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, aldehydes, etc. Generally, anthropogenic VOCs are diverse and also include aromatic hydrocarbons, most importantly benzene, toluene, ethylene and the isomers of xylene as major components (up to 75%).5 To say the least, there is a wide chemical composition variety of VOCs released to the atmosphere. For my project centered in the oil and gas industry, I will focus on the aromatic compounds BTEX. Studying the isotopic ratio of VOCs can provide insight into the photochemical transformation and physical processing of ambient VOCs.10 Recent isotope studies on VOCs has shown the stable isotopes of C within the compounds is consistent with the kinetic isotope effect.10 Thus, the fractionation between the emission and the observation can determine the extent of photochemical processing, other words the photochemical age.10 The study of isotopes within VOCs has recently developed with Rudolph, et al., 1997 as a method was introduced to measure VOCs at low mixing ratios (3 to 5 orders of magnitude smaller than CH4). Methane emissions, isotopes instrumentation The use of CH4 isotopes in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Bill Gates Dropping Out Of Harvard The world s attitude towards the personal computer may have been completely different if not for one event: Bill Gates dropping out of Harvard. Gates came from a wealthy family in Seattle, Washington, but even at a young age, he knew how to take risks in order to follow his passion for computers. The developments that Microsoft has made, ranging from the earliest operating systems such as MS DOS to the Microsoft Office Suite, have impacted the way that the personal computer operates. Microsoft products are used around the world, by various types of customers, ranging from CEOs to elementary school teachers and everyone in between. Both Gates and Microsoft have had a significant hand in establishing the way the world interacts with computers. Keira Stevenson summarized Gates rising love for technology in her article. Even in elementary school, Gates could often be found cutting class to spend more time with the school s large computer. Gates and childhood friend Paul Allen gained experience while playing around with their school s computer. The two teens were later hired by a software company to seek out bugs in the company s system (Stevenson). Gates intended on attending Harvard and following in the steps of his lawyer father. After two years at Harvard, Gates dropped out in order to start Microsoft alongside Allen. The two teens typically worked with the Altair 8800, which was one of the first inexpensive computers on the market that was available for home use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. American Sniper Themes American Sniper tells the story of Chris Kyle, a U.S. Navy SEAL, who becomes one of the deadliest snipers in American history. In his four tours of duty, his goal is to save the lives of his comrades, but this makes him the most wanted man by insurgents in Iraq. Chris has to sacrifice his relationship with his family at home in order to complete his duty, and when he finally returns home, he still cannot get over the war. Clint Eastwood succeeded in his choice of cast. Bradley Cooper was a perfect actor for this role because he accurately portrayed Chris Kyle s experiences and struggles. Cooper displayed the actions of a veteran upon returning home from war, and this could not have been done in a more realistic way. Sienna Miller played ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These items are detailed through Kyle s deployments. Eastwood successfully created images of what the battlefield in Iraq looks like. In addition, he used symbols such as the American flag and the Navy SEAL trident to express Kyle s pride for America. The themes of this film connect Kyle s struggles with his family, deployment, and remembrance of war. Overall, the story line successfully depicts Chris Kyle s life. The film begins with Kyle s childhood and training to become a Navy SEAL. The rest of the film goes through Kyle s deployments in Iraq and his struggles with being a husband and father at home. Having the film from the perspective of Chris Kyle makes the plot more effective than if it were from another character s perspective. The character of Taya Kyle seemed to have a negative aspect because she was against her husband going to war and she was overall a very one dimensional character. The production of American Sniper by Clint Eastwood was very well done. The use of montages to show Kyle s memories is successful in reinforcing his inner struggles. The continual use of diegetic sound made the film even more real and put the viewer in a position as if they were experiencing the war with the characters. When Kyle is killed by a Marine whom he was trying to help, the film transitions to actual videos from his funeral procession in Texas, which makes the film ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first large scale usage of new technologies can be traced to US WWII training of soldiers through training films and other mediated materials. Not too long ago, it was even a struggle for women to be able to take on the secondary positions in the workplace or any work at all. In her book Bella!: Ms. Abzug Goes to Washington, Bella Abzug argued, the test of whether or not you can hold a job should not be in the arrangement of your chromosomes (80). Fortunately, in today s day and age it is uncommon for a woman to fail in a job search entirely because of her gender, but in the past that was the case. Society created an idea that females were not good enough to hold their own job, so the duty of providing for the family was left to their husbands. For years, the majority of society did not realize that every individual has their own strengths and weaknesses, and neither men nor women are automatically more qualified than the other. • 11. The Impact Of Federalism Federalism can be said to be the defining feature of all forms of American politics. Even as a literary characteristic feature, America was the first nation to adopt federalism as a concept. Federalism is a system of government whereby political power is divided between a national government and other smaller political constituents such as states (Platt, 2014). Federalism, although not mentioned exactly in the constitution, was supposed to be a concept that addressed the errors of the confederation (Platt, 2014). Another example of this would be the election and in particular, the Electoral College. The system of the Electoral College is one that portrays federalism i.e. share of power between state and national government. The Constitution provides the framework of the system. Federal statutes stipulate aspects of the process and give directions to states regarding the time of the election and certification of the electoral vote. Federal statutes also give directions to Congress concerning the counting of the electoral vote, and they provide a process for objections to the vote. Since each state is important because it has to conduct its own election at the same time with other states, the laws of each state specify the time and place of the meeting of the electors as well as other election provisions. Together, these two governments, together with the constitution, create the Electoral College system (Edwin C. Kisiel, III, page 12 13). • 13. Character Analysis Of Mr. Wills Will J. The Taste of Melon: Mr. Wills Character Analysis Nov. 17 2017 In The Taste of Melon by Borden Deal, the character of Mr. Wills is written as a round/complex character. Mr. Wills exhibits three main traits throughout the story, and those traits do not change. First is his success as a farmer, second is his emotional personality, and third is his intimidating and frightening demeanor and reputation. While it may be easy to say that Mr. Wills is a dynamic character, his core traits never change at any point in the plot. Only the way he is perceived by other characters changes. The first main character trait of Mr. Wills is his success as a farmer. During the exposition of the plot as the narrator is introducing all of its characters, he says Mr. Wills was the best farmer in the community. (Deal, 131) as if it was common knowledge. The narrator s father chimes in when he says ...that he could drive a stick into the ground and grow a tree out of it. (Deal, 131) Mr. Wills appears to show his technical proficiency in farming best when he is growing watermelons. As the narrator put it; Other men, like Mr. Wills, can throw some seed on the ground, scuff some dirt over it, walk off and leave it. And they ll have a crop of the prettiest, biggest melons you ever saw. (Deal, 131) This trait did not change during the story; never was it revealed that Mr. Wills was putting fake watermelons in his patch, or that he was importing prize melon seeds. From what is shown in the story Mr. Wills is just a talented man. The second main character trait of Mr. Wills are his volatile emotions. Beside the obvious examples of him simply showing anger, such as When he plowed his fields you could hear him yelling for a mile. (Deal, Pg. 131) There is also the example of him performing actions out of anger and then regretting them later. Then I saw it, he was destroying every melon in the patch! (Deal, Pg. 137), and You ruined the half of it, and I ruined the other. (Deal, Pg. 140) These quotes show that Mr. Wills has a tendency to act brashly and then regret it. This is a trait that does not change through the story, instead it is fully revealed near the end during the resolution of the plot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Structural instability can occur in buildings after a bombing or fire and something more significant, such as when the planes were used in the World Trade Center attacks. When a building s structure and integrity have been compromised, first responders may not realize the extent of the damage while rescuing the injured, consequently leading to the building collapsing on emergency personnel after they enter. In order to protect emergency responders when responding to the scene of a terrorist attack, emergency personnel should use masks to protect against these airborne particles. While addressing the risk that first responders will encounter when arriving on the scene of a terrorist attack, it is also important to discuss the lasting mental effects that emergency personnel will deal with after the incident is finished. One concern would be that of the mental health of the first responders because studies have shown that many of the emergency personnel that responded to the attacks on the World Trade Center Towers in 2001 suffered from depression, post traumatic stress disorder, and panic disorders following the attacks (Thompson, et al., 2014). One study conducted following the September 11 attacks determined that rescue and recovery workers demonstrated a cumulative incidence of depression of 27.5 percent, post traumatic stress disorder in 31.9, percent, and panic disorder in 21.1 percent of the rescue and recovery workers that participated in the study (Wisnivesky, et. al, 2011). Daisy Buchanan of The Great Gatsby and Brett Ashley of The Sun Also Rises Written right after the publication of Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises is apparently influenced in many ways. The most obvious of Fitzgerald s influence is manifested in Hemingway s portrayal of his heroine, Brett Ashley. Numerous critics have noted and discussed the similarities between Brett and Daisy Buchanan, and rightly so; but the two women also have fundamental differences. Compared to Daisy, Brett is a more rounded, complex character, and Hemingway has treated her with more sympathy than Fitzgerald has with Daisy. He had thrown himself into it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time, decking it out with every bright feather that drifted his way. No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart (101). That dream is also empty because Daisy is empty. Fitzgerald depicts her as an empty, useless and dependent female who ultimately lacks definition. Whereas Gatsby works to pursue Daisy, Nick has a regular job, and even Jordan has her tournaments; Daisy does not have a purpose, a profession, or even a talent for anything. Her purposelessness is apparent in this scene with Jordan Baker: We ought to plan something, yawned Miss Baker, sitting down at the table as if she were getting into bed. All right, said Daisy. What ll we plan? She turned to me helplessly. What do people plan? My beliefs and view on the gender ideology towards work and family is more weighed on one side (Masculine) and partly on the other (Feminine). It is evident that the Masculine gender is more dominant in our society and because of this; there is more expectation and responsibility for the masculine gender. However, there is a continual inclusion trend in which we are witnessing the feminine gender assume some roles of the masculine gender. But overall, the masculine effect is still dominant. I personally feel that there should be a good balance of work and family responsibility by the men. It is necessary that the Men are mostly responsible for taking the role of the breadwinner of the family therefore, the working hours of the men would have to be met as required by the employer. For example, working 40 hours a week is the minimum in the US but varies in some other places. In a case whereby the man has to take an overtime shift just to meet the needs of the family. The core responsibility of a family depends on both the man and the woman. This also varies depending on the family. In my opinion, I would expect both genders o take equal responsibility. The feminine gender is mostly associated with the child care activities and the house chores while the Masculine gender is associated with the providing for the family and helping the feminine gender. The main idea is to analyze data from different perspectives and discover useful trends, patterns and associations. As discussed in the previous chapter, the healthcare organizations are producing massive amounts of electronic medical records, which are impossible to process using traditional technologies (e.g., Microsoft excel). Therefore data mining is becoming very popular in this field as it can be used to identify the presence of chronic disease, detect the cause of the disease, analyze the effectiveness of treatment methods, predict different medical events, identify the side effects of the drugs, and so on. Kidney diseases such as CKD or AKI require immediate detection and medical attention based on the patient s clinical condition, medical history, medication history and some demographical factors. From the literature survey, we discovered a good number of studies and tools that used data mining methods such as clustering, association, and classification to improve the decision making ability of the healthcare providers regarding kidney disease. In the subsequence sections in this chapter, we present an overview of the data mining methods and discuss how they have been used in existing literature. 4.1. Overview of data mining ... Mending Wall Robert Frost Analysis Tierra Nick Professor Parker ENG 202 01 20 November 2017 An Analysis of Frost s Mending Wall Mending Wall written by Robert Frost seems to take place in a countryside estate. The speaker and his neighbor are fixing a wall together, which separates their properties. Mending Wall is a poem that describes the relationship between two neighbors and idea of maintaining barriers. This poem reflects how people make physical barriers and emotional barriers. A barrier is an object that keeps something in or the unwanted out. The speaker wants to know why these barriers are up. If we make a psycho analysis of the speaker through the present poem, we came to the conclusion that the neighbour is no one but the inner self of the speaker (Srivastava 257). This wall is nothing, but the gap between human beings on various aspects culturally, economically, and socially (Srivastava 257). The wall is a basis for the many differences that people in our society have. Throughout this poem, we see the speaker struggle to find a reason for having a wall that is separating him from the neighbor. The speaker is valuing innovation over tradition. Although, the speaker is also a man of tradition he is trying to rebel against the norms that frustrates him. The speaker does not want a relationship with his neighbor. In line 1, Frost begins by saying Something there is that doesn t love a wall . Frost seems to refer to something as anything in this world from humans to nature. This ... • 23. Footloose Analysis I saw Footloose, directed by John Wilson and written by Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, on Thursday in the Highlander Theatre at UCM. The story is about a high school boy who moves to a small town with his Mom after her divorce. He is an outsider, and is surprised to find that it is against the law to dance. Then, he decides to take a stand and fight the law so that everyone in the town has the right to express themselves through dance. John opened the show with his director s note, and gave a spiel about what he believed the audience should take away from the show. His goal was for us to make a connection with how the youth and the adults found a way to work through their problems by talking it out. I believe this is an extraordinary message in today s society as technology is embraced by the youth and shunned by the older generations. However, I believe that other parts of the show, such as the relationship between the reverend and his wife, had a much larger impact than the message that he had hoped to send. There were many parts of the acting that I believe if worked on would have given the show substantially more impact. Granted, it is incredibly difficult to portray a character, and a scene, in such a way that the audience loses themselves in the story and is able to empathize with what the characters are feeling. However, the two major scenes that were meant to drive in the message that John hoped to send were simply underwhelming. The first scene that didn t hit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He held his own privacy in such high esteem that the location and memories of his childhood home, family and every event of his past were familiar to no one but he. This state of mind had not been triggered by a tragic or traumatic event, nor by an unpleasant childhood, this was simply the way Adonis elected to live his life. Even though a man like he, with such a fervent requisite for confidentiality and secrecy, there had been a scarce few moments that the small number that he deemed sacrosanct were allowed a glimpse into the lone soul that was Adonis Lloyd. Dantes Inferno Essay Dante s use of allegory in the Inferno greatly varies from Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; in purpose, symbolism, characters and mentors, and in attitude toward the world. An analysis of each of these elements in both allegories will provide an interesting comparison. Dante uses allegory to relate the sinner s punishment to his sin, while Plato uses allegory to discuss ignorance and knowledge. Dante s Inferno describes the descent through Hell from the upper level of the opportunists to the most evil, the treacherous, on the lowest level. His allegorical poem describes a hierarchy of evil. In death they are doomed to exist with their heads on backwards and their eyes overflowing with tears so that not only could they not see what was happening in front of them, but they could not see at all due to these copious amounts of tears. Similarly, each sin had its own logical punishment, and each group of sinners received the same punishment, with only a few exceptions. Such an exception can be found in Canto XXlll when Caiaphas lies crucified on the floor while the other hypocrites walk around him in circles. He is set apart because he counseled a Roman to crucify Jesus. While the sinners represent man s imperfections, Virgil symbolizes human reason. Throughout the poem, Virgil uses logic and reason to convince the monsters to allow him to gain passage to the various circles of Hell. The use of characters and mentors is distinct in each piece. quot; The Allegory of the Cave quot; presents few characters, and except for the one prisoner who ascends from the cave, none are distinguished from the others. The one freed prisoner attempts to become a mentor to the others but fails. As he tries to enlighten the remaining prisoners he is received with anger and threats. Over time the cochlear implant has had technology advances as well as the size becoming smaller and easier for deaf people to use. This surgical implant has both its benefits and disadvantages for the deaf. One of the benefits of the Cochlear Implant is the hearing improvement, people with them have the ability to interact more from hearing conversations, makes it to where less effort is needed to understand others. The reason for the Vikings leaving their homelands and venturing off on trade missions, raids, explorations, and new settlements is largely unknown, due to a lack of evidence (Vikings weren t huge fans of writing down their day to day lives and history.) However, it can be speculated that they left for a few reasons. The first of those reasons was to escape forced conversion to Christianity by Charlemagne. The Vikings had their own unique religion which differed heavily from Christianity. Add to this the fact that Christians don t have the best history with accepting other beliefs, it is understandable that the Vikings may have feared Christian conversion and sought to find new lands to escape. This fear of conversion was a large part of the Saxon wars affecting Germanic peoples. It s worth noting the irony of the Vikings leaving their homeland in fear of Christian conversion considering their leader Harald Bluetooth (935 985), who was the King of Norway and Denmark, eventually converted the Vikings himself to Christianity. The second reason for the Vikings suddenly migrating may be due to their beliefs in relation to inheritance. • 39. Theme Of Family In The String Of Pearls Another issue it caught my attention is the fact that family is assumed to be the only one who is always there for helping you, however, in this novel, family is everyone s only enemy. In Victorian period, the idea of family as sacred was expanded through cultural media, social or political discourses and education. Novels like this which included marriage and domesticity contained debates of love and family either principal or secondary story. These kinds of work made people see family as a source of real happiness, despite the fact that abhorrent mistreatment happened in many households. It would be interesting considering what Marry Strauss, a domestic violence expert, says about this issue; With the exception of the police and military, the family is perhaps the most violent social group, and the home is the most violent social setting. The working class was so unable to reach a proper style of life that had to try anything to achieve success, even if that implicated to harm other people. As Rosalind Crone points out in her book; In The String of Pearls , the social evil of anonymity is successfully encapsulated in the character of the villain, Sweeney Todd, who, under the dark cloak of the metropolis, and by taking advantage of the fragility of modern urban communities, could continue to operate his murder machine for years without raising the suspicious of his neighbours. Although some thought the barber was a little cracked , the people in the local community genuinely respected this seemingly well to do businessman. His portrait on the first number of the 1850 novelette further emphasises his external normality. (Crone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Who s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf Character Analysis 1. Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf begins with a very tranquil stroll home from a party, before the viewer is aware of Martha s drunkenness and George s exasperation. These several shots of the couple holding onto each other and moseying their way down the sidewalk help concrete the statement that despite what occurs between these two characters, they are still very much companions who have no one else to turn to. Despite this, their conformity to the pre packaged values of their culture obscures this recognition (pp. 30). Therefore, George and Martha rely on an illusion that has taken over their lives in order to function as a practical married couple in a culture obsessed with power and objectified control (pp. 29). The main characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carnal Knowledge and The Fortune were both movies that fell flat, both with the populations of the time at which they first arrived in theaters, but also with our class. Both employ characters that serve to illustrate a moral rather than for the audience to relate with, and a dry humor which has arguably grown outdated. Mise en scene is everything inside the shot that the director has control over. One example of mise en scene in The Fortune is the framing of the camera shots themselves: when Oscar and Nick take Frannie in the trunk to be thrown overboard and in the framing of that camera shot, the headlights of an oncoming car can be spotted and follow throughout it s entire ascent toward the camera. The Fortune also used this wide shot to explore depth of field in the final shot of the movie when the entire courtyard is centered around the fountain, and the viewer can see the landlady scamper around the background for the hose in order to witness more gossip. These are significant because you re getting the full picture, and in that way, the viewer himself must put in the effort to locate the action and uncover its significance. In Carnal Knowledge, Nichols framed many conversations to show just a headshot of the actors as they spoke to one another while the conversation occurs around them. Many times in this film can you hear the transactions occurring between characters, but one may be entirely off screen. In several of these occasions, it almost seems as if one of ... • 45. Charles Dickens Defining Moments Essay As individuals mature, they often have defining moments that distinguish the transition from child to adult. Defining moments often come at major crossroads, where individuals make one decision, during a situation with unencountered gravity and urgency. In the 19th century novel, Great Expectations, Charles Dickens describes the importance of defining moments and how they provide a transition into adulthood. Dickens urges society to always endure through conflicting moments and to knowingly make sacrifices in the name of progress. If individuals embrace their conflicting experiences, they can become defining moments of great consequence. The diorama presented describes the importance of defining moments and their inherent difficulties, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The boat chained to the dock represents the decision Pip must make, and how maturation requires sacrifice. The three chains describes each of Pip s three stages of growth, and how the defining moment leaves behind all previous growth to experience and undertake an unknown challenge. In order to leave complacency, Dickens stresses a need to break the chains that bind individuals to their perceived safe havens. As a result, the decisions that make up defining moments never come without dispositional struggle: We had all shaken hands cordially, and neither Herbert s eyes not mine were quite dry... (444). By describing Pip s begging and the territoriality of Pip towards his comrades, Dickens shows the internal conflicts of defining moments. The paths show a trail to both the inn and an unknown path on the other direction, showing Pips ability to leave behind his endeavours and escape to the lifestyle he knows. Nevertheless, Pip perseveres, just as Dickens encourages society to endure hardships in pursuit of a greater purpose. Despite the sense of place that develops through complacency, Dickens urges growth and change rather than satiation. Dickens recalls the effects of such defining moments by describing Pip as an adult, now mature and aware of his place in society: I work pretty hard for a sufficient living, and therefore Yes, I do well (491). Due to the importance of such decisions, Dickens urges individuals to not fear sacrificing comforts in order to best promote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Judicial Branch Vs Executive Branch Separations of powers is a principle of the United States government, giving powers and responsibilities that are divided among the legislative branch, executive branch, and judicial branch. Checks and balances are certain powers that each branch of our federal government have to check on each other and make sure one branch isn t doing something against the Constitution. These balances between the branches ensure that no branch becomes too powerful. Preventing this means that all of the branches are equal and balanced and allows a fair federal government for the people. The branch that has the greatest amount of checks over the other branches is the legislative branch. They have the most checks over the other branches for many reasons. One reason is that this branch has the most people in it, combing both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Also, this branch is the most directly elected by the people and has people from every state. So, giving the branch that is the largest and is closest to the people is a good idea. ... On the other hand, the executive branch can also check back on the legislative by vetoing laws that the President thinks are unconstitutional. Furthermore, the President (executive branch), can pardon any person convicted of a federal crime, outrunning and overruling the judicial branch s decision. • 48. Canadian Football Game Analysis There were no Canadian teams in the playoffs For the first time in 46 seasons, there were no Canadian teams in the NHL playoffs. The last time this occurred was 1969 1970 season where there were only 12 teams in the league and two from Canada being the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. The league has grown to 30 teams (and is in the process of expanding), with seven of them being north of the border. Although there are only seven teams representing the red and white, it surprising to think that none of them qualified, considering that last season five out of the the seven teams were in playoffs (except for Toronto and Edmonton). Each team had their reasons for why they didn t make it. Toronto s first season under Mike Babcock was one to forget since they are in the rebuilding process and finished 30th overall with 69 points. The Leafs also traded away star players Phil Kessel, captain Dion Phaneuf, and James Reimer in order to start from scratch and create a new team identity. They are looking to improve after securing the first overall pick in the upcoming draft and will most likely take prospect Austun Matthews to help get them back to the playoffs after being out since the 2012 2013 season.
