Heteronormativity Essay
Heteronormativity has not accepted the fact that there is no need to be a heterosexual couple to engage
in sexual or romantic activities or that there is no need to be born with the right genre. This negation
has had a negative impact in lives of people who identify themselves in a distinct manner from the
ones that are considered normal . One of the most important consequences that this assumption can be
found in mental health. An example of this was shown by Todd (as cited by Wilchins, 1997) trans
identity is not a natural fact. Rather, it is the political category we are forced to occupy when we do
certain things with our bodies. That so many of us try to take our own lives, mutilate ourselves, or just
succeed in dying quietly of shame, depression, or loneliness is not an accident. We are supposed to
feel isolated and desperate. Outcast. That is the whole point of the system. Our feelings are not causes
but effects. (p33) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are some people who defend the idea that mental illnesses or problems related to the
mind are not merely delineated by how society treats you, but it is a correlation between phenotypical
and genotypical features potentiated by the context a person is born and the life history of the last
one.Even though this argument could be supported by scientific evidence, this does not rest
importance to the fact that heteronomativity has a huge influence on how a person perceives himself
and faces the world because of how this belief is tightly woven in society. To conclude, one of the
ways in which this standard affects people is by rejecting them causing further problems because this
makes people feel as outcasts and has an impact in their psychological

The Hebrew Bible, By Marc Zvi Brettler
How To Read The Jewish Bible, authored by Biblical scholar, and professor, Marc Zvi Brettler, is an
enlightening text, guiding people towards studying the Hebrew Scriptures purposefully. Brettler
(2005) reveals his book provides a response to the frustration many readers hold towards the Hebrew
Bible, with the conventional tendency of filtering it through the lens of present day culture. Generally,
he argues, as a result, this leads one to misconstrue passages or arrive at the definitive conclusion the
Bible holds no relevant value within our contemporary era and therefore, should collect dust.
Written as an introduction to the Hebrew Bible, Brettler designedly provides a neutral approach to aid
readers of all backgrounds in finding a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5).
Brettler s goal of guiding readers toward an appreciation and understanding of the purpose in utilizing
the historical critical study practice is well laid out as a foundation to the book. By prioritizing the first
four chapters as he did, Brettler sets the tone of how one should survey the Scriptures for the greatest
illumination. From the start, he outlines what the historical critical method is in theory and practice,
which dispels the assumption every reader holds a familiarity with it. Clarity comes alongside the
resolution that applying the historical critical method to the Scriptures does not set out to destroy the
Hebrew Bible s importance. Rather it lends an unbiased avenue to read these religious texts in a
compelling way, bringing understanding in a multifaceted fashion as opposed to one dimensional,
conclusive outcomes.
Approaching the Scriptures from a Jewish viewpoint, as discussed in class, is well supported in
Brettler s book. Through his preparatory teaching on what the Hebrew Bible in itself is, and how one
should read it, a ground is laid. Explaining the difference between the Christian Bible and Hebrew
Bible is a vital inclusion. The Christian Bible passages, called the Old Testament, are read with the
belief that they lead into the New Testament. The Hebrew Bible does contain a New Testament, so one
would not read it within the same frame of reference.

Process Analysis on Lean Six Sigma and
The Effects on Operations and Technology Strategy Over the course of the past three decades,
American industrial organizations have sought a wide variety of management programs in hopes to
improve their competitiveness. The two most prevalent programs are lean management and Six
Sigma. Lean management derived from Toyota in Japan and has since been applied by many major
firms in America, including Harley Davidson. Six Sigma was introduced by Motorola ... Show more

For Six Sigma, the emphasis is on reducing variation, leading to more uniform process output. The
belief here is that by focusing on reducing variation and achieving uniform process will lead to
reduced waste, less throughput time, and less inventory. While each methodology seems to be
targeting common tools and concepts, the approaches begin the journey from different perspectives
(Nave, 2002).
Lean Management When relating lean production to a process, there are three key principles that are
considered. First, manufacturing performance adheres to the improving flow of material and
information across business functions. Second, lean emphasizes customer pull rather than organization
push. Last of all, lean develops the individuals of an organization to practice and pursue a
commitment to continuous improvement (Lewis, 2000). Many researchers cite lean as constantly
evolving, arguing that any definition of the concept would only be a snapshot of a moving target.
Because of this, it is hard to give a consistent definition to the subject of lean. Researchers also argue
that lean principles can be applied to any industry, regardless of the concept s origin to the automobile
industry. They encourage organizations to acknowledge the different perspectives that the concept
comprises when embracing a lean approach within their processes (Pettersen, 2009).
Six Sigma A project driven management approach, the Six Sigma method s purpose is

Strong women are prevalent in our culture. For example, Helen Keller, was blind and deaf, but still
made an impact on our society. Other examples of strong women include Harriet Tubman and Amelia
Earhart. The book, The Odyssey, is no different; there are many strong women in this book, Circe and
the Sirens are examples of this. These women are all strong because they possess various traits, such
as Harrit Tubman s detrmantion and the Sirens beautiful voices, along with the knowledge to put them
into effect. The Sirens and Circe hold certain character traits, some of which they share, and others
they differ on. Circe is one of the strong women in this book. Circe is an immortal who can do simple

Circe changed her mind, also Ulysses wanted to return to Ithaca, his home country. Circe is not the
only strong women in The Odyssey; the Sirens are a set of sisters that are also strong in this book. The
Sirens are two sisters with beautiful voices that draw men to them. Once a man hears their voices, he
is unable escape, if he hears their voice he will be drawn to them, doing whatever it takes to get to the
island they are living on. Once a man reaches the island of the sisters, they take the bones of the men
and use then to make drums, which are a part of their music. These two sisters have the faces of young
girls, but the bodies of birds. Because the Sirens are so powerful, if any man hears their voices all the
men will be dragged to their island. To prevent this Ulysses plugs his men s ears with beeswax.
Ulysses, however keeps his own ears unplugged to be able to hear the sound going on around him,
Ulysses has his men tie him to the mast so he is unable to escape. Because of the beautiful voices he is

Irrigation Yuma Essay
Irrigation Yuma County Irrigation has been a major part for Yuma,Arizona. Many things had occurred
for getting a better irrigation in the Yuma County as well as in other parts; many things had happened
like successfully and tragedies things. The major component that led to the irrigation was the
Reclamation Act, which then later became known as the U.S Bureau of Reclamation. This then led to
the Yuma Project. The Yuma Project was a project that was a benefit because it help to bring down the
water to Arizona. In 1902 the Bureau of Reclamation was signed. The Bureau of Reclamation project
was looking for lands that needed water. Since Arizona is a dry land which needed water for crops and

the project began in 1903, one of the positive effect on this was that it brought water to Yuma for
irrigation and stopped canals from flooding. Therefore irrigates did not have to worried about the

Comparing The Scottsboro Trial And Tom Robinson s Trial
Comparative Essay There are many basic parallels between the Scottsboro Trial and Tom Robinson s
Trial, in To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. As Harper Lee grew, up, she was surrounded with
news of the Scottsboro Trial, which had a large impact in her novel. But there are also many deeper
parallels between these two. Both trials contained African American(s) being accused of rape to a
white woman, but Lee had a way to show this through a child s eyes, presumably, her as a young child
experiencing the Scottsboro Trials firsthand. The characters involved within Tom s Trial are also
fabricated from the people involved with the Scottsboro Trial. There are many examples within both
texts to prove these statements. The Scottsboro Trial is filled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Mayella Ewell is a good representation of both Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. [Ruby] was given little
chance to do anything but follow the lead of Victoria, so much quicker and garrulous. (Ransdell). This
quote describes Victoria as more garrulous than Ruby, and Mayella has both the shyer qualities of
Ruby, but the talkative qualities of Victoria. Lee wrote her this way, as she is the false accuser in Tom
s Trial, as Ruby and Victoria in the Scottsboro Trial. If we delve deeper into Mayella s experiences
with her father, and him persuading (or threatening) her to accuse Tom, this can be compared to
Victoria and Ruby being bribed by two lawyers to change their testimony. They were both asked to do
something they did not want to do, and we can tell this with this quote from To Kill a Mockingbird:
Mayella jumped slightly at [Atticus question]. (Lee 246). Atticus had asked a question she was not
prepared for, and had to think of an answer, that would satisfy Atticus and her father, but not her.
Victoria and Ruby did not want to admit they were spending time with African Americans, as that fact
would destroy their images. The characterization of Mayella is based off the actions and feelings of
Victoria and Ruby. The Juries in both stories were very harsh against the defendant(s). In the
Scottsboro trial, the Jury obviously wanted all

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Refracting Telescope
Introduction: The refracting telescope or the refracting lense inside, is really useful at seeing distant
objects, making them appear larger and closer then it actually is, for e.g, it is mostly used for
astronomers to look around space, having an eye on most planets.
What happens when the light travels from one medium to the other: The light travels everywhere,
hitting everything and at the same time reflecting at a certain angle.. When speed of light is normally
being discussed, it is mostly being referred to its maximum speed that it can hit, and that is the speed
of light in a vacuum. Having no air or any other mediums, the light has no obstacles, letting it free to
go everywhere at its speed, which is 3.00 x 108 m/s. When an medium ... Show more content on

Especially when wanted to be build in larger size and larger lense. The cost of the refracting telescope
runs to about $500 to $2000 per inch of the objective lense.
Another disadvantage is that the refracting telescope don t focus the colours very well because the
light just bounces of and creates different colours that are just bending and refracting
everywhere, focusing different colours at different points. Makes it really hard to make it to focus and
to bring them all together and see the proper colorful picture that is wanted. This is also known as
chromatic aberration. This could be solved by using the coated lenses to reduce this problem to the
minium.
If the lense is a bit more thicked, most light won t even be able to breach through, as well as not
giving in any colours to create the virtual or the real image.
Advantages:
The refracting telescope lense doesn t need much cleaning as they are very well sealed inside its build.
After the first alignment, they are really needed to be re done since they are more resistant to the

Dynamic Character Of Ophelia In Shakespeare s Hamlet
The character of Ophelia in Shakespeare s Hamlet is a dynamic character often overlooked by most
readers. At first glance, she is displayed as weak and easily manipulated, shown by her suicide in the
play. However, when her character is looked into with more depth, she comes off as a character who is
strong and independent and made the choice to kill herself with a purpose. Hamlet is a revenge
tragedy, but Hamlet isn t the only character who seeks revenge. Ophelia chooses to kill herself not out
of sorrow, but out of revenge against her father and Hamlet. Ophelia s father was portrayed as a man
who tried to have control over his daughter s life and the choices she makes. In Ophelia s first scene,
Polonius and her brother Laertes, are talking to Ophelia about her virtue Tender yourself more dearly/
Or not to crack the wind of the poor phrase,/ Running it thus you ll tender me a fool (1.3.113 115).
Polonius is lecturing Ophelia on the matter of her virtue, and how it is sacred to her. It is something
that she must keep safe at all costs and not fall to the whims of Hamlet. He doesn t believe that Hamlet
actually likes Ophelia and that instead he only wants Ophelia for her body. Polonius does not take into

know that a suicide would not have been given a Christian burial, so she had to plan her death in a
way that would give her her last rights. Her death also had to be in a way that would help her achieve
revenge against the two men with whom only one thing about her mattered: her body. Her revenge

Uses And Gratification Theory
Uses and Gratification is a theory formulated by the professor Elihu Katz in the late 1950 s that
analyzes the relationship between media and people in order to examine questions of how and why
individuals use media to satisfy particular needs.
The theoretical framework was released when the commonest view regarding this topic was the
Classic view. This view, developed at the beginning of the 20th century, is characterised by the
assumption that media are powerful and active tools, capable of strong and uniform effects. Whereas,
the public was addressed as passive, defenseless and not able to face media power. On the contrary,
Uses and Gratification theory focuses on the audience usage of media and aims to explore the reason
why people deliberately use a certain media to fulfill different needs. Differently from the classic
view, the perspective of U G establishes that the audience has power over their media usage.
U G theory is characterised by five key elements or assumptions; firstly, people use media for their
own particular purposes, it means that the audience choose appositely a medium based on their needs
and expectations. Therefore the audience is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Examples Of Marxism In 1984
Analyzing 1984 by George Orwell using Marxist Theory Marxist Theory focuses on the idea that
whoever controls the means of production in a society controls the society and the means of
production would be placed with the hands of the masses ( Marxist Theory 2). Karl Marx wrote and
believed that literature was a reflection of culture and culture was affected by literature (2). 1984 by
George Orwell is a dystopian novel that focuses on the life of a man named Winston Smith. The story
follows how he is unhappy with the flawed, but powerful government of his home, Oceania (more
specifically Airstrip 1, London) and his quest to understand and overthrow it. Marxist Theory can be
seen in the government s control over the Party members, the government s control over the Proles,

In this society, the Inner and Outer Party members are constantly being reminded of the Party s power
and are essentially brainwashed into thinking what the Party wants them to think and do at all times.
Things like propaganda, two minutes hate (rallies where Party members must watch a video of the
Party s enemies and express hatred towards them), telescreens which watch the people s every move,
and most importantly fear of being vaporized from their very world are what drives the citizens
towards obedience and towards support for the Party. Orwell even says, Winston kept his back turned
to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing (Orwell 3).
These examples show the many ways that the Party exercises its control. With all these things
surrounding these people s lives, it is no wonder they live in fear and are brainwashed. All they know
and will ever know is of the Party. As Marx predicted, the Party controls the means of production in
Oceania, so therefore they control Oceania itself ( Marxist Theory

I found it to the most accessible of all of Julie s collection because of its simplicity compared to her
other works. It is quite small, about the size of a computer screen. The background is made of a grey
piece of material with a smaller cream piece of embroidery fabric in the centre. The aspect of this
piece which draws your eye in is the red string which is looped between the two fabrics, linking them
together. The red string merges with a shiny, light blue, rounded bag shaped piece of material with a
delicate yellow thread flower at its base. This then takes your eye onto the embroidered woman who
seems to be carrying a basket of flower and wearing a blue hat and dress. Above her is a light blue
flower with a diagram f planet earth in the centre where the seeds are supposed to be. The embroidery
transforms into the bottom and right side of the page through pencil lines. To the right of the woman is
an oval shaped white piece of cloth with and multi coloured boarder. Below the woman the pencil
lines create what seems to be legs and then transforms into pipes holding a dog. The shading of the
pencil decreases as the drawing moves down the page and becomes more of an outline. The
contrasting colours of red and blue superimposed on the plain background makes each element of her
composition stand out even more.

Evaluation Of A Research Methodology Essay
Chapter 3
Research Methodology
Overview of the Research Methodology Action research is the most suitable process to use in order to
address this research problem. The researcher needs a solution that s reliable to use and appropriate to
administer in a classroom setting. The issue, although prevalent throughout the district, is still unique
in the parameters of this fourth grade class. It is not the goal of the researcher to generalize their
findings to a large population, but instead to meet the needs and weaknesses of a single group of
students with which the researcher interacts with regularly.
Proposed Research Design The researcher will use action research to collect both quantitative and
qualitative data. The main objective of this research is to positively affect students ability to solve
word problems effectively and efficiently. Therefore, the quantitative data will measure their growth
from before and after intervention. The qualitative data will gather students responses regarding the
benefits of using/reusing taught methods. In addressing the first research question (How effective are
language focused techniques at improving 4th grade students understanding of math word problems?),
empirical data will serve as evidence. To answer the second research question (What are the perceived
benefits in 4th grade students using a graphic organizer/visual support as a strategy in solving math
word problems?), students will submit an anonymous survey which

Five Forces Analysis
The enthusiasm and excitement of starting a new business can quickly diminish when you realise you
are faced with the task of analysing the complex business landscape that is spread out in front of you.
The number of factors to consider can be overwhelming leading to errors in judgement and
unnecessary risk taking. This article aims to assist you in tackling this process by providing a
simplified overview of the Five Forces Analysis model. This is not a step by step guide, nor a list of
dos and don ts, but rather a set of factors that should be considered when assessing the competitive
intensity and attractiveness of a market. The Five Forces Analysis was created by Harvard Professor
Michael Porter in 1979 and it provides a framework for industry analysis and business development.
Porter proposes there to be five forces which either inhibit or prohibit a company s ability to succeed
in a given market.
1. Threat of new entrants
2. Threat of substitutes
3. Bargaining power of buyers
4. Bargaining power of suppliers
5. Intensity of rivalry
Threat of new entrants
A market is much more attractive if it is difficult to enter. This may sound odd at first as it seems more
logical to pursue a market that is easy to enter. However, if you can do it so can everyone else, and if it
is extremely easy for other businesses to enter a market with little skill, experience or start up costs
you will find it extremely difficult to create and capture any value from that market.

The Root Causes Of Low Morale In The Workplace
Low morale is a common occurrence inside the workplace, while the effects of low morale are often
visible it is difficult to diagnose the cause. There are various issues that coincide with low morale,
which include absenteeism, low motivation, and low productivity, which can be detrimental to a
business. The cause of low morale involves a myriad of complex factors such as, lack of leadership,
indignant employees, micromanagement, unreasonable workloads, and high turnover are a few
examples that contribute to the cause of low morale in an organization. If your company is suffering
from low morale, it is crucial to seek and identify the root causes. Symptoms of low moral often begin
with low motivation followed by low productivity and absenteeism. A drop, in motivation can become
a wide spread issue if the cause is not identified and addressed. One unmotivated employee can cause
other employees to become unmotivated (Root III, 2017). Employees who are not motivated perform
at an unsatisfactory level, which in turn causes low productivity. Even if one employee is
unmotivated, the consequences of low productivity can incite demotivation in other employees who,
may feel like they must work harder to pick up the slack of the unmotivated employee. Poor
performance from one employee can cost a business an excessive amount of time, due to reworking
previous projects or dealing with unfinished tasks (Deeb, 2017). Out of all the symptoms described,
absenteeism can be the costliest.

Comparing The Hero In The Last Of The Mohicans
American Romanticism set the tone for typical American literature. James Fenimore Cooper set the
bar with the archetypal traits that define American literature, appearing from books like The Last of
the Mohicans to current films like Indiana Jones s adventure Raiders of the Lost Ark. Three of the
archetypal traits that appear in both timeless classics and current masterpieces are a brave faultless
hero, daring rescues, and loyal companions. The first and most important part of almost any story is its
hero. What makes the heroes in American Romantic literature so special is their bravery, skillfulness,
and faultlessness. The main hero in The Last of the Mohicans, Natty Bumppo, is a brave and skilled
Native American who makes wise decisions and never makes a mistake. He may be temporarily
overcome by the enemy, but he always bounces back and takes what is his, through reasoning with a
chieftain or through force against a military leader. Similarly, Indiana Jones is also brave and skilled
with a whip, but he is less faultless. His fear of snakes deters him in some situations, but he always
overcomes his fear to save the day. Both Natty Bumppo and Indiana Jones have the courageousness
and skill to get out of any situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Natty Bumppo faces jumping into a waterfall, running from Indians, and saving the Monroe sisters
time and time again. Indiana Jones also makes many bold rescues, but he breaks the mold when he
humorously reties Marion s bonds instead of taking her with him. This is an example of the current
trend of introducing twists and turns into a story to keep the audience on edge. The Last of the
Mohicans does not cause as much suspense, but it was groundbreaking at the time it was written. Even
so, both Natty Bumppo and Indiana Jones have to save their faithful friends time and time

Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees (McGuire, pp. 162 63). These peaceful

Stonewall Jackson. Stonewall s work ethic, morals, and military prowess earned him the grand

Stonewall rose above numerous other outstanding Civil War generals to become The Man, The

Essay On Marco Polo
I have not told half of what I saw Marco Polo. Marco Polo was a world famous traveler and trader.
The introductions of China and Asia, for many, was all thanks to him. Polo is most known for his
travels to China and his book. His book describes the basis of the descriptions of places that were not
really discovered. Polo s childhood was rough and unordinary. Polo was born around 1254 in Venice.
Polo s mother died when Polo was young, leaving him with his father, Niccolo. Niccolo and Polo s
uncle, Maffeo, however, left on a long expedition to Asia. This circumstance left Polo to be raised by
his uncle and aunt. His uncle and aunt taught Polo how to read, write, calculate arithmetic, and to

Essay On Cupid
Cupid, being known for love, has greatly influenced today s society even with his questionable
background. In ancient Greece, he originated from Aphrodite. Cupid s other name was Eros. In Roman
times, his name is Cupid and his mother was Venus. His purpose was to to pierce the heart of his
victims and causing them fall deeply in love. The most known stories that he was involved in was
Apollo and Daphne and Cupid and Psyche. Apollo was shot by Cupid and fell in love with Daphne.
Daphne couldn t stand being bombarded by Apollo. The moral of the story is pride in victory sets one
up for defeat; in fact the moral of Cupid and Psyche story is love cannot thrive where there isn t trust.
The resolution to his story is he marries Psyche. Venus supports their love. For Apollo and Daphne,
Daphne is now the reason why we have the Laurel Tree. The differences between Cupid s original
story and most modern story is when the stories were first created, they had different fact told and
included. Now that the story has been passed down in time, it has been modified to certain likings. An
example from the source states, ...Distraught, Psyche goes in search of her husband, traveling for
many days, until she comes to the temple of Ceres, the motherly goddess of grain. (The Ancient Fairy

Entry One: In order for you to understand my current situation and life, it is imperative you know the
backstory. Though far from glamorous, my past has greatly shaped the woman and leader I am today.
Born to a peasant mother and bear trainer father in Constantinople, my opportunities were limited.
Advancing in social class was not an option in this human jungle and my family s main goal was
survival. Once my father died, it became my older sister s and my responsibility to provide for our
family. Comito travelled through local theater s performing but I lacked the talent to dance or sing so
my roles were only as minor characters. Eventually, I gained popularity from my wit and charisma on
the stage and began performing on my own, though my shows were notoriously daring [and]
immodest. My success in the theater became success as a courtesan as those roles often went hand in
hand. I was highly paid for my supper parties. 3 I did not enjoy this humiliating job, but my lifestyle
was not unique. As a family of women, work was highly limited and often times prostitution was the
only option. Eventually I met Hecebolus and left my work as a courtesan and followed him to Tyre. I
assumed I had escaped my previous life of selling my body and performing on stage when I moved in
with Hecebolus but the liberation was short lived. Following an argument, I was on the street and once
again on my own forced to support myself in the only way I knew how. Alone in a foreign

Many shootings have been happening, as well releases of popular violent video games. Most every

teens have been very aggressive as well as the video games affecting the brain, which could also lead

Cindy Sherman s Work
From my observation, I can tell that Cindy Sherman works consists of self portraits that offer critiques
of gender and identity. Sherman s work interest me because she inserts herself into her art and
expresses her own portrayals of female stereotypes found in films, television, and advertising. In
Sherman s seminal series titled Untitled Film Stills I noticed that she examines and distorts femininity
as a social construct, and she often uses a large color scale in her photographs. Sherman s work puts
me in the mind of the circus, because many of her photographs consist of clowns, costume dress up,
and disfigured mannequins. I find her work to be far from mediocre, because her pieces stand out and

Loyalty During Ww2
Because co operation is essential to work. We must be loyal to society in order to have a form of
progress. For example, people in ancient civilizations heavily relied on one another for specific tasks
such as hunting, farming, and building homes. Whichever task you specialized in, it was impossible to
do multiple ones and be independent. Thus, every person did their part to pitch in for chores and
benefit everyone. This process can be easily trusted because this turned out to be very successful for
their communities, but, there had to be loyalty and trust for it to work. Without loyalty, cooperation,
and steady progress would never be achieved. Another point in history we see an example of loyalty
being broken and the consequences World War Two. Japan and the United States had a peace
negotiation and Japan had failed to end the negotiation before launching the attack and catching
Hawaii by surprise. This caused outrage throughout the U.S and killed over 2,000 Americans. This

The hotel industry is perhaps, one of the oldest commercial endeavours in the world. The first inns

of the wheel.
The earliest hotels were managed by husband and wife teams, who provided large halls for travellers
to make their own bed and sleep on the floor. The entire cooking service and recreation were provided
by the husband and wife team and his family.
It was in Europe that the birth of well managed hotel industry took place on the shape of chalets and
small hotels which provided variety of services. They were mainly patronized by the aristocracy of the

The real growth of the modern hotel industry took place in the United State of America in 1794. the

a term more broadly used that connects people according to an inherited status such as: a shared

Consumer Culture Essay
Consumer culture is a fundamental part of many modern societies across the world, influencing a wide
a range of areas from politics to economics and identity. Consumption is viewed as significantly
powerful force in the economy and therefore understanding consumption and consumer culture is a
vitally important resource both for the benefit of the economy and the individual. Consumer culture
theory aims to understand the behaviours and attitudes of consumers from a sociological perspective,
as opposed the economic mindset in which consumer culture is usually viewed. Consumer culture
theory attempts this through understanding the relationships between consumer actions, the
marketplace, and cultural meanings (Arnould and Thompson, 2005). ... Show more content on

Individuals use possession to create and maintain identity, however the identity an individual creates
through consumption of goods can not always be controlled (Friedman, 2005). An obvious example
being clothing, an individual may purchase clothing that they believe makes them look fashionable but
the items could in fact cause other to perceive them as unfashionable and out of date.
The value of items is created by consumers through the meanings they attach to said items. companies
can try to influence the meanings attached to items but the overall meaning and value attached to
items is by the individual (McCracken, 1986). This also means that different items can have different
cultural value and meanings to different individuals. some items may have no external value but have
very significant value to an individual, for example family heirlooms or photos. this personal value
however does not transfer between individuals and while some items may hold strong value for an
individual the item itself is not a commodity that can be exchanged and retain its value (Howard,
1999). gift exchange is an important aspect of consumer culture, gift exchange involves the idea of
reciprocity. In a gift economy gift exchange creates social bonds and interdependence. gift giving

Even though the Iroquois and other Native American tribes had forged alliances with rivaling
European powers they were unable to maintain any leverage economically and militarily during the
Fur trade era. The introduction of the Dutch to North America happened by chance, as they were
attempting to locate a passage to Asia. Henry Hudson, an English sea captain working for the Dutch
came across the island of Manhattan in 1609 and sailed north on a river for 150 miles, later the Dutch

While not taking care of their land the other job the males of the Iroquois had was warfare and even in
battle with their enemies having superiors numbers over the Iroquois they were still able to defeat

with weapons, but the Iroquois overall success lay in their ability to maintain unity and a far more
superior organization than any of their enemies. While militarily they formed a great force to reckon
with, it was their political system that made them even more a force in the early years of colonial
history. This system allowed for them to form a unified front against the new European threat that was

In the article, New Avon CEO vows to restore the 126 year old beauty company to former glory, Jenna
Goudreau (2013) interviews Avon CEO, Sheri McCoy, on the current issues facing Avon Products
around the world and the results of management transitions in the company.
Over the past few years, Avon s stock and net income has declined as a result of misplaced focus in
different areas throughout the company. Under the former CEO, Andrea Jung, the company had an
internal focus, was expanding too fast, and failed to recognize the needs of consumers in different
markets. Under the new CEO, Avon is improving by focusing more on sales representatives, cutting
jobs, reducing spending, and pulling out of failing markets. Additionally, they are incorporating
information systems and social media as selling tools, catering to individual markets, and foregoing
other growth areas until the core business is stable. With these improvements, Avon expects that it will
see a turnaround in the coming years.
AVON SWOT ANALYSIS
Weaknesses:
Brand image losing value
Declining North American operations
Decreasing market share Strengths:
Low costs for operations
Well established distribution in various markets with wide range of products
Committed workforce with a common goal
Threats:
Internal disagreements over leadership
Competition from a variety of companies
Lawsuits regarding compliance on an international scale
Strategy 1: Solidify leadership

The Justice System Through The Eyes Of A Friend Of Mine
The purpose of this paper has several different agendas. Firstly, I will describe a firsthand experience
of the justice system through the eyes of a friend of mine, whom I recently had the fortunate
opportunity to sit down and interview him for his full story. Secondly, I briefly will examine the
current justice system, using my friends experience. And finally, I will expound on some of my
opinions of the current justice system after listening to my friends story, and discuss some of the new
insight I received while doing this paper along with the readings provided in my class, Intro to
Criminal Justice . My friends name is Marshall Ward, he was a former inmate for less than a year as a
result of him finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time . I also want to add that perhaps
him being with the wrong crowd did not help his case at all. Marshall is a former co worker of mine
and we have managed to stay in touch over the years since my husband and I have moved out of state.
I interviewed him via Skype last week, asking him not only for his side of the story alone, but to also
listen to his views about the current justice system. I asked him if he felt it was an effective system,
and what things could be changed for the better. I also took note on what he felt needed to be changed.
The experience of Marshall is a short one, but I will try to be detailed as possible about his story as it
was told to me. This young man had never been in any kind of trouble with

Homelessness Is An Ever Growing Epidemic
Clifford Richardson
Student at Marylhurst University
Prepared for
Professor Scott Stringer
March 17, 2016
Abstract
In the complex society of this day and age, homelessness is an ever growing epidemic; People can
become homeless for many reasons: losing a job, addiction to drugs and mental illness. People drive
or walk past a homeless person every day without thinking ever about the predicament of that
individual or they may even unintentionally turn their heads the other way in repulsion. Homelessness
can be defined as an individual or a family whose has a main nighttime dwelling that is a public or
private place not designed for or normally used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human
beings, including a car, park, abandoned building, bus or train station, airport, or camping ground,
doorway or alley sidewalk. Any given night in Portland there can be upwards of 4000 people sleeping
on the streets in homeless camps, shelters, or under the bridges, this report looks at the direct
correlation between homelessness, the disease of drug addiction, and mental illness, And will try to
address ways to help decrease and prevent it from increasing.
Introduction/Background
Have you ever walked in Downtown Portland with sole intention of paying attention to the details of
your surroundings? A person would think that the first thing that they would notice is the beautiful
architecture of the buildings or maybe the many statues and fountains that line the

Durham Cathedral Essay
Durham Cathedral Durham Cathedral is one of the oldest examples of Romanesque architecture
present in England today. Although the cathedral was completed in the early 12th century there are
signs of Gothic architecture present due to the close relation of Romanesque and Gothic styles. In
Robert Scott s book The Gothic Enterprise he discusses how the early Gothic style pulled heavily
from the Romanesque style of architecture and built upon it s basic themes. Durham Cathedral s
extensive history shows how the church s style of architecture remains mainly Romanesque, but has
impressions of other styles due to renovations in different eras. Durham Cathedral has been described
as one of the great architectural experiences of Europe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Cloister, on the south side of the Cathedral, was begun at the same time as the
Cathedral but contains much work from the 15th century or later. The College, the name given in
Durham to the Cathedral Close, is a quiet area on the south side of the Cathedral.
It is the home of the Cathedral clergy and others associated with its life, and of the
Chorister School, a co educational school where the Cathedral choir boys are educated.
Many of the buildings surrounding the Green originated in the Middle Ages, and entry is gained via
the medieval gate house which is still locked every night.
The Reformation was a watershed in the Cathedral s history as it brought the dissolution of the Priory
and its monastic community. The monastery was surrendered to the Crown in December 1540, thus
ending hundreds of years of monastic life at the
Cathedral. In January 1541 the Cathedral was refounded, the last Prior became the first
Dean, and twelve former monks became the first Canons. Much valuable information about life in the
Cathedral in the period immediately prior to the dissolution can be found in a 1591 work, ‘The Rites
of Durham which it is presumed was written by a former member of the monastic community and is
available in the Cathedral. Despite the continuity of some of the personnel, this period must have been
very traumatic in the life of the Cathedral as medieval worship

Ted Cruz Analysis
Interpreting The Constitution: Is Ted Cruz Eligible for Presidency?
Is Ted Cruz American enough for the presidency? Recently Donald Trump has made claims that Ted
Cruz is not eligible for presidency. Cruz was born in Canada by a father who is Cuban and a mother
who is a natural born U.S. Citizen. This debate will escalate the closer we get to the primaries.
Jonathan H. Adler is a writer from The Washington Post. in his article titled Yes, Ted Cruz is a Natural
Born Citizen he argues that Cruz is in fact eligible. He explains that Cruz was born in Canada;
however, his mother s residency makes him a U.S. citizen. They further explain that the constitution
does not mean U.S. Soil when it says natural born. Adler is right; Ted Cruz is eligible for presidency
because of his mother s U.S. Citizenship.
Adler says that Cruz is indeed eligible because of his mother s residency status.
His father is a U.S. Citizen; however, he is not a natural born citizen. This makes Cruz a natural born
citizen; his mother s status transfers to him. He explains that if children are born on foreign soil they

Cruz is a natural born citizen, because his Mother is a natural born citizen. Even if his mother was not
a U.S. Naturally born citizen, he should still be legal as long as she had citizenship. Some say that
children that are born north of the United States Mexico border are considered natural born citizens.
yet a child born south of the border, even by a few miles, by legal U.S. Citizens is considered to be not
a natural born citizen. That is not logical reasoning. I do understand why some would think that people
s allegiance lays in their birthplace, but for Cruz to renounce his Canadian residency shows me that he
s an American. The people who argue against Cruz s nationality are the same who argued against
President Obama s birthplace. Even if President Obama was born in Africa he still is considered a
natural born citizen because of his mother s

ATLANTA Critique
Ever heard of the show ATLANTA? Probably not, on the spectrum of things, it s a show on FX that
not many people knew about. And, if you did it was because Donald Glover was the main star of it.
Not to say that is the sole reason why people appreciated and watched the show, but it is a part of the
reason why.
Glover has not only played a part in COMMUNITY, but directed and produced the show itself. He
even has an alter ego, as you would call it, called Childish Gambino who raps under the hip hop genre.
Glover s life is in tip top shape as far as his resume goes and he has had no issues with finding a job.
He recently, this year in fact, announced his new show ATLANTA. First thoughts were confusing; the
trailers did not tell much and maybe that was for the best thinking back on it now.
The first episode premiered September 6th on FX at 9PM and from the beginning of the first episode I
knew this show was going to be something special. The show s minimalistic style, mixed with the rap
songs in the background make this show what it is. And, that is a minimalistic masterpiece. The show
adapted the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The vibes are esoteric, in a sense that you get something bad is going to happen or already has
happened in the show prior to you seeing it. TWIN PEAKS does this very well throughout, and makes
it known that a murder has taken place and something evil is lurking through the town. ATLANTA
makes a name for making this show about more than just race, and more than just being black in
America. This show depicts what it is to be an outcast, similarly to what TWIN PEAKS has brought to
the table in 1990. TWIN PEAKS brought to the table some of the most oddball characters of the 90 s,
from Loglady (RIP) to Dale Cooper himself. These characters are well defined; however, they also tell
a story as well. What ATLANTA seems to accomplish just in the first episode of the

Anti Bacterial And Anti Parasitic Properties
Licochalcone A Licochalcone A is classified as a chalconoid, a type of natural phenol. It is harvested
and extracted from the root of the liquorice plant, Glycyrrhiza glabra. First utilized for its anti
bacterial and anti parasitic properties, it has recently been tested and shown to be effective in treating
hyperpigmentation by inhibiting tyrosine production by binding to tyrosinase and slowly catalyzing it
(Chang, 2009). This would group it as a true tyrosinase inhibitor. It is also a competitive inhibitor,
since it is able to bind to TYR s binding site, L dopa) and restricting the substrate from binding. Other
effects of Licochalcone A Licochalcone A has been shown to have a number of different effects on
developing embryos. Some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other effects, such as anti cancer, cannot be observed in this study due to time and resource
constraints. Zebra Danio as a candidate for study Zebra Danios, also known as Zebrafish, and by the
scientific name Danio Rerio, are a member of the minnow family of fish: Cyprinidae. Zebra Danios
are an ideal candidate for scientific study for a multiple of reasons. They are a beginner level fish,
meaning that they are easy to care for and maintain. They are tolerant of a range of water temperatures
and pH as well as not being fussy eaters. They are readily available at most major and minor pet
stores. They are also viewed as an entry level breeder. The advantage of breeding Zebra Danios are
plenty. Female Danios lay many dozens of eggs per day when ready to spawn. The eggs are fully
transparent which allows for ready observation of development at every stage of development.
Gestation periods were also very quick when compared to other animals. Normal gestation periods in
Zebra Danio are 48 hours long. Because of this, observation and analysis of experimentation on danio
development. Zebra danios were among the first fish to be genetically manipulated to the extent that
lab produced florescent varieties, Glofish®, have been developed and even trade marked. Zebra
danios were selected for this study because of their availability and the transparency of the eggs. This
would allow for easy photographing of the eggs at different stages

  • 2. Heteronormativity Essay Heteronormativity has not accepted the fact that there is no need to be a heterosexual couple to engage in sexual or romantic activities or that there is no need to be born with the right genre. This negation has had a negative impact in lives of people who identify themselves in a distinct manner from the ones that are considered normal . One of the most important consequences that this assumption can be found in mental health. An example of this was shown by Todd (as cited by Wilchins, 1997) trans identity is not a natural fact. Rather, it is the political category we are forced to occupy when we do certain things with our bodies. That so many of us try to take our own lives, mutilate ourselves, or just succeed in dying quietly of shame, depression, or loneliness is not an accident. We are supposed to feel isolated and desperate. Outcast. That is the whole point of the system. Our feelings are not causes but effects. (p33) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there are some people who defend the idea that mental illnesses or problems related to the mind are not merely delineated by how society treats you, but it is a correlation between phenotypical and genotypical features potentiated by the context a person is born and the life history of the last one.Even though this argument could be supported by scientific evidence, this does not rest importance to the fact that heteronomativity has a huge influence on how a person perceives himself and faces the world because of how this belief is tightly woven in society. To conclude, one of the ways in which this standard affects people is by rejecting them causing further problems because this makes people feel as outcasts and has an impact in their psychological ... • 3. The Hebrew Bible, By Marc Zvi Brettler How To Read The Jewish Bible, authored by Biblical scholar, and professor, Marc Zvi Brettler, is an enlightening text, guiding people towards studying the Hebrew Scriptures purposefully. Brettler (2005) reveals his book provides a response to the frustration many readers hold towards the Hebrew Bible, with the conventional tendency of filtering it through the lens of present day culture. Generally, he argues, as a result, this leads one to misconstrue passages or arrive at the definitive conclusion the Bible holds no relevant value within our contemporary era and therefore, should collect dust. Written as an introduction to the Hebrew Bible, Brettler designedly provides a neutral approach to aid readers of all backgrounds in finding a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5). Brettler s goal of guiding readers toward an appreciation and understanding of the purpose in utilizing the historical critical study practice is well laid out as a foundation to the book. By prioritizing the first four chapters as he did, Brettler sets the tone of how one should survey the Scriptures for the greatest illumination. From the start, he outlines what the historical critical method is in theory and practice, which dispels the assumption every reader holds a familiarity with it. Clarity comes alongside the resolution that applying the historical critical method to the Scriptures does not set out to destroy the Hebrew Bible s importance. Rather it lends an unbiased avenue to read these religious texts in a compelling way, bringing understanding in a multifaceted fashion as opposed to one dimensional, conclusive outcomes. Approaching the Scriptures from a Jewish viewpoint, as discussed in class, is well supported in Brettler s book. Through his preparatory teaching on what the Hebrew Bible in itself is, and how one should read it, a ground is laid. Explaining the difference between the Christian Bible and Hebrew Bible is a vital inclusion. The Christian Bible passages, called the Old Testament, are read with the belief that they lead into the New Testament. The Hebrew Bible does contain a New Testament, so one would not read it within the same frame of reference. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nanney East Tennessee State University Abstract Do not indent/ need to add headings/subheadings, etc Process Analysis on Lean Six Sigma and The Effects on Operations and Technology Strategy Over the course of the past three decades, American industrial organizations have sought a wide variety of management programs in hopes to improve their competitiveness. The two most prevalent programs are lean management and Six Sigma. Lean management derived from Toyota in Japan and has since been applied by many major firms in America, including Harley Davidson. Six Sigma was introduced by Motorola ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Six Sigma, the emphasis is on reducing variation, leading to more uniform process output. The belief here is that by focusing on reducing variation and achieving uniform process will lead to reduced waste, less throughput time, and less inventory. While each methodology seems to be targeting common tools and concepts, the approaches begin the journey from different perspectives (Nave, 2002). Lean Management When relating lean production to a process, there are three key principles that are considered. First, manufacturing performance adheres to the improving flow of material and information across business functions. Second, lean emphasizes customer pull rather than organization push. Last of all, lean develops the individuals of an organization to practice and pursue a commitment to continuous improvement (Lewis, 2000). Many researchers cite lean as constantly evolving, arguing that any definition of the concept would only be a snapshot of a moving target. Because of this, it is hard to give a consistent definition to the subject of lean. Researchers also argue that lean principles can be applied to any industry, regardless of the concept s origin to the automobile industry. They encourage organizations to acknowledge the different perspectives that the concept comprises when embracing a lean approach within their processes (Pettersen, 2009). Six Sigma A project driven management approach, the Six Sigma method s purpose is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Other examples of strong women include Harriet Tubman and Amelia Earhart. The book, The Odyssey, is no different; there are many strong women in this book, Circe and the Sirens are examples of this. These women are all strong because they possess various traits, such as Harrit Tubman s detrmantion and the Sirens beautiful voices, along with the knowledge to put them into effect. The Sirens and Circe hold certain character traits, some of which they share, and others they differ on. Circe is one of the strong women in this book. Circe is an immortal who can do simple magic. Circe is not the only strong women in The Odyssey; the Sirens are a set of sisters that are also strong in this book. The Sirens are two sisters with beautiful voices that draw men to them. Once a man hears their voices, he is unable escape, if he hears their voice he will be drawn to them, doing whatever it takes to get to the island they are living on. Once a man reaches the island of the sisters, they take the bones of the men and use then to make drums, which are a part of their music. These two sisters have the faces of young girls, but the bodies of birds. Because the Sirens are so powerful, if any man hears their voices all the men will be dragged to their island. To prevent this Ulysses plugs his men s ears with beeswax. Many things had occurred for getting a better irrigation in the Yuma County as well as in other parts; many things had happened like successfully and tragedies things. The major component that led to the irrigation was the Reclamation Act, which then later became known as the U.S Bureau of Reclamation. This then led to the Yuma Project. The Yuma Project was a project that was a benefit because it help to bring down the water to Arizona. In 1902 the Bureau of Reclamation was signed. • 8. Comparing The Scottsboro Trial And Tom Robinson s Trial Comparative Essay There are many basic parallels between the Scottsboro Trial and Tom Robinson s Trial, in To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. As Harper Lee grew, up, she was surrounded with news of the Scottsboro Trial, which had a large impact in her novel. But there are also many deeper parallels between these two. Both trials contained African American(s) being accused of rape to a white woman, but Lee had a way to show this through a child s eyes, presumably, her as a young child experiencing the Scottsboro Trials firsthand. The characters involved within Tom s Trial are also fabricated from the people involved with the Scottsboro Trial. There are many examples within both texts to prove these statements. [Ruby] was given little chance to do anything but follow the lead of Victoria, so much quicker and garrulous. (Ransdell). This quote describes Victoria as more garrulous than Ruby, and Mayella has both the shyer qualities of Ruby, but the talkative qualities of Victoria. Lee wrote her this way, as she is the false accuser in Tom s Trial, as Ruby and Victoria in the Scottsboro Trial. If we delve deeper into Mayella s experiences with her father, and him persuading (or threatening) her to accuse Tom, this can be compared to Victoria and Ruby being bribed by two lawyers to change their testimony. They were both asked to do something they did not want to do, and we can tell this with this quote from To Kill a Mockingbird: Mayella jumped slightly at [Atticus question]. (Lee 246). Atticus had asked a question she was not prepared for, and had to think of an answer, that would satisfy Atticus and her father, but not her. Victoria and Ruby did not want to admit they were spending time with African Americans, as that fact would destroy their images. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Refracting Telescope Introduction: The refracting telescope or the refracting lense inside, is really useful at seeing distant objects, making them appear larger and closer then it actually is, for e.g, it is mostly used for astronomers to look around space, having an eye on most planets. What happens when the light travels from one medium to the other: The light travels everywhere, hitting everything and at the same time reflecting at a certain angle.. When speed of light is normally being discussed, it is mostly being referred to its maximum speed that it can hit, and that is the speed of light in a vacuum. Especially when wanted to be build in larger size and larger lense. The cost of the refracting telescope runs to about $500 to $2000 per inch of the objective lense. Makes it really hard to make it to focus and to bring them all together and see the proper colorful picture that is wanted. This is also known as chromatic aberration. This could be solved by using the coated lenses to reduce this problem to the minium. If the lense is a bit more thicked, most light won t even be able to breach through, as well as not giving in any colours to create the virtual or the real image. • 10. Dynamic Character Of Ophelia In Shakespeare s Hamlet The character of Ophelia in Shakespeare s Hamlet is a dynamic character often overlooked by most readers. At first glance, she is displayed as weak and easily manipulated, shown by her suicide in the play. However, when her character is looked into with more depth, she comes off as a character who is strong and independent and made the choice to kill herself with a purpose. Hamlet is a revenge tragedy, but Hamlet isn t the only character who seeks revenge. Ophelia chooses to kill herself not out of sorrow, but out of revenge against her father and Hamlet. Ophelia s father was portrayed as a man who tried to have control over his daughter s life and the choices she makes. In Ophelia s first scene, Polonius and her brother Laertes, are talking to Ophelia about her virtue Tender yourself more dearly/ Or not to crack the wind of the poor phrase,/ Running it thus you ll tender me a fool (1.3.113 115). Polonius is lecturing Ophelia on the matter of her virtue, and how it is sacred to her. It is something that she must keep safe at all costs and not fall to the whims of Hamlet. Uses And Gratification Theory Uses and Gratification is a theory formulated by the professor Elihu Katz in the late 1950 s that analyzes the relationship between media and people in order to examine questions of how and why individuals use media to satisfy particular needs. The theoretical framework was released when the commonest view regarding this topic was the Classic view. This view, developed at the beginning of the 20th century, is characterised by the assumption that media are powerful and active tools, capable of strong and uniform effects. Whereas, the public was addressed as passive, defenseless and not able to face media power. On the contrary, Uses and Gratification theory focuses on the audience usage of media and aims to explore the reason why people deliberately use a certain media to fulfill different needs. Differently from the classic view, the perspective of U G establishes that the audience has power over their media usage. Examples Of Marxism In 1984 Analyzing 1984 by George Orwell using Marxist Theory Marxist Theory focuses on the idea that whoever controls the means of production in a society controls the society and the means of production would be placed with the hands of the masses ( Marxist Theory 2). Karl Marx wrote and believed that literature was a reflection of culture and culture was affected by literature (2). 1984 by George Orwell is a dystopian novel that focuses on the life of a man named Winston Smith. The story follows how he is unhappy with the flawed, but powerful government of his home, Oceania (more specifically Airstrip 1, London) and his quest to understand and overthrow it. Orwell even says, Winston kept his back turned to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing (Orwell 3). These examples show the many ways that the Party exercises its control. With all these things surrounding these people s lives, it is no wonder they live in fear and are brainwashed. Evaluation Of A Research Methodology Essay Chapter 3 Research Methodology Overview of the Research Methodology Action research is the most suitable process to use in order to address this research problem. The researcher needs a solution that s reliable to use and appropriate to administer in a classroom setting. • 19. Five Forces Analysis The enthusiasm and excitement of starting a new business can quickly diminish when you realise you are faced with the task of analysing the complex business landscape that is spread out in front of you. The number of factors to consider can be overwhelming leading to errors in judgement and unnecessary risk taking. This article aims to assist you in tackling this process by providing a simplified overview of the Five Forces Analysis model. This is not a step by step guide, nor a list of dos and don ts, but rather a set of factors that should be considered when assessing the competitive intensity and attractiveness of a market. The Five Forces Analysis was created by Harvard Professor Michael Porter in 1979 and it provides a framework for industry analysis and business development. Porter proposes there to be five forces which either inhibit or prohibit a company s ability to succeed in a given market. 1. Threat of new entrants 2. Threat of substitutes 3. Bargaining power of buyers 4. Bargaining power of suppliers 5. Intensity of rivalry Threat of new entrants A market is much more attractive if it is difficult to enter. This may sound odd at first as it seems more logical to pursue a market that is easy to enter. However, if you can do it so can everyone else, and if it is extremely easy for other businesses to enter a market with little skill, experience or start up costs you will find it extremely difficult to create and capture any value from that market. ... • 20. The Root Causes Of Low Morale In The Workplace Low morale is a common occurrence inside the workplace, while the effects of low morale are often visible it is difficult to diagnose the cause. There are various issues that coincide with low morale, which include absenteeism, low motivation, and low productivity, which can be detrimental to a business. The cause of low morale involves a myriad of complex factors such as, lack of leadership, indignant employees, micromanagement, unreasonable workloads, and high turnover are a few examples that contribute to the cause of low morale in an organization. If your company is suffering from low morale, it is crucial to seek and identify the root causes. Symptoms of low moral often begin with low motivation followed by low productivity and absenteeism. A drop, in motivation can become a wide spread issue if the cause is not identified and addressed. One unmotivated employee can cause other employees to become unmotivated (Root III, 2017). Employees who are not motivated perform at an unsatisfactory level, which in turn causes low productivity. Even if one employee is unmotivated, the consequences of low productivity can incite demotivation in other employees who, may feel like they must work harder to pick up the slack of the unmotivated employee. Poor performance from one employee can cost a business an excessive amount of time, due to reworking previous projects or dealing with unfinished tasks (Deeb, 2017). Out of all the symptoms described, absenteeism can be the costliest. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Comparing The Hero In The Last Of The Mohicans American Romanticism set the tone for typical American literature. James Fenimore Cooper set the bar with the archetypal traits that define American literature, appearing from books like The Last of the Mohicans to current films like Indiana Jones s adventure Raiders of the Lost Ark. Three of the archetypal traits that appear in both timeless classics and current masterpieces are a brave faultless hero, daring rescues, and loyal companions. The first and most important part of almost any story is its hero. What makes the heroes in American Romantic literature so special is their bravery, skillfulness, and faultlessness. The main hero in The Last of the Mohicans, Natty Bumppo, is a brave and skilled Native American who makes wise decisions and never makes a mistake. He may be temporarily overcome by the enemy, but he always bounces back and takes what is his, through reasoning with a chieftain or through force against a military leader. Similarly, Indiana Jones is also brave and skilled with a whip, but he is less faultless. His fear of snakes deters him in some situations, but he always overcomes his fear to save the day. • 41. Best Movie Research Paper Best Movie going experiences La La Land La La Land is very good. I saw it twice in theaters, which is odd for me because my preferred method of consuming media is illegally pirating it (NSA, I know you re reading this, but this confession is not admissible in court, ok? ok.) Anyway, the second time I saw La La Land it was an 8:00 showing on a Wednesday in Cedar Rapids that I had to scramble to get to because I left work and didn t get any supper. So we stopped at Hy Vee, picked up some to go boxes of chinese food, and tried to figure out the best way to smuggle the food into a theater. Thankfully, I was with a girl who was infamous for her mom purses. Precariously setting the containers vertically into her purse, the contents of which I unceremoniously dumped in the back seat, and draping a scarf over the top of the food ... So, yeah, let s get to the aforementioned stereotypes. Devyn, Amber, and I were the only white people in the theater. Y know the old stereotype about how black people like to yell at horror movies? I don t want to perpetuate stereotypes, buuuuuuuuuuuut. Don t Breathe is a horror movie. Under the former CEO, Andrea Jung, the company had an internal focus, was expanding too fast, and failed to recognize the needs of consumers in different markets. Under the new CEO, Avon is improving by focusing more on sales representatives, cutting jobs, reducing spending, and pulling out of failing markets. Additionally, they are incorporating information systems and social media as selling tools, catering to individual markets, and foregoing other growth areas until the core business is stable. • 43. The Justice System Through The Eyes Of A Friend Of Mine The purpose of this paper has several different agendas. Firstly, I will describe a firsthand experience of the justice system through the eyes of a friend of mine, whom I recently had the fortunate opportunity to sit down and interview him for his full story. Secondly, I briefly will examine the current justice system, using my friends experience. And finally, I will expound on some of my opinions of the current justice system after listening to my friends story, and discuss some of the new insight I received while doing this paper along with the readings provided in my class, Intro to Criminal Justice . My friends name is Marshall Ward, he was a former inmate for less than a year as a result of him finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time . I also want to add that perhaps him being with the wrong crowd did not help his case at all. Marshall is a former co worker of mine and we have managed to stay in touch over the years since my husband and I have moved out of state. I interviewed him via Skype last week, asking him not only for his side of the story alone, but to also listen to his views about the current justice system. I asked him if he felt it was an effective system, and what things could be changed for the better. I also took note on what he felt needed to be changed. The experience of Marshall is a short one, but I will try to be detailed as possible about his story as it was told to me. This young man had never been in any kind of trouble with ... Homelessness Is An Ever Growing Epidemic Clifford Richardson Student at Marylhurst University Prepared for Professor Scott Stringer March 17, 2016 Abstract In the complex society of this day and age, homelessness is an ever growing epidemic; People can become homeless for many reasons: losing a job, addiction to drugs and mental illness. People drive or walk past a homeless person every day without thinking ever about the predicament of that individual or they may even unintentionally turn their heads the other way in repulsion. Homelessness can be defined as an individual or a family whose has a main nighttime dwelling that is a public or private place not designed for or normally used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings, including a car, park, abandoned building, bus or train station, airport, or camping ground, doorway or alley sidewalk. Any given night in Portland there can be upwards of 4000 people sleeping on the streets in homeless camps, shelters, or under the bridges, this report looks at the direct correlation between homelessness, the disease of drug addiction, and mental illness, And will try to address ways to help decrease and prevent it from increasing. Although the cathedral was completed in the early 12th century there are signs of Gothic architecture present due to the close relation of Romanesque and Gothic styles. In Robert Scott s book The Gothic Enterprise he discusses how the early Gothic style pulled heavily from the Romanesque style of architecture and built upon it s basic themes. Durham Cathedral s extensive history shows how the church s style of architecture remains mainly Romanesque, but has impressions of other styles due to renovations in different eras. The Cloister, on the south side of the Cathedral, was begun at the same time as the Cathedral but contains much work from the 15th century or later. The College, the name given in Durham to the Cathedral Close, is a quiet area on the south side of the Cathedral. It is the home of the Cathedral clergy and others associated with its life, and of the Chorister School, a co educational school where the Cathedral choir boys are educated. Many of the buildings surrounding the Green originated in the Middle Ages, and entry is gained via the medieval gate house which is still locked every night. The Reformation was a watershed in the Cathedral s history as it brought the dissolution of the Priory and its monastic community. The monastery was surrendered to the Crown in December 1540, thus ending hundreds of years of monastic life at the Cathedral. In January 1541 the Cathedral was refounded, the last Prior became the first Dean, and twelve former monks became the first Canons. Much valuable information about life in the Cathedral in the period immediately prior to the dissolution can be found in a 1591 work, ‘The Rites of Durham which it is presumed was written by a former member of the monastic community and is available in the Cathedral. Despite the continuity of some of the personnel, this period must have been very traumatic in the life of the Cathedral as medieval worship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Ted Cruz Analysis Interpreting The Constitution: Is Ted Cruz Eligible for Presidency? Is Ted Cruz American enough for the presidency? Recently Donald Trump has made claims that Ted Cruz is not eligible for presidency. Cruz was born in Canada by a father who is Cuban and a mother who is a natural born U.S. Citizen. This debate will escalate the closer we get to the primaries. Jonathan H. Adler is a writer from The Washington Post. in his article titled Yes, Ted Cruz is a Natural Born Citizen he argues that Cruz is in fact eligible. He explains that Cruz was born in Canada; however, his mother s residency makes him a U.S. citizen. They further explain that the constitution does not mean U.S. Soil when it says natural born. Adler is right; Ted Cruz is eligible for presidency because of his mother s U.S. Citizenship. Adler says that Cruz is indeed eligible because of his mother s residency status. Some say that children that are born north of the United States Mexico border are considered natural born citizens. yet a child born south of the border, even by a few miles, by legal U.S. Citizens is considered to be not a natural born citizen. That is not logical reasoning. I do understand why some would think that people s allegiance lays in their birthplace, but for Cruz to renounce his Canadian residency shows me that he s an American. The people who argue against Cruz s nationality are the same who argued against President Obama s birthplace. And, if you did it was because Donald Glover was the main star of it. Not to say that is the sole reason why people appreciated and watched the show, but it is a part of the reason why. Glover has not only played a part in COMMUNITY, but directed and produced the show itself. He even has an alter ego, as you would call it, called Childish Gambino who raps under the hip hop genre. Glover s life is in tip top shape as far as his resume goes and he has had no issues with finding a job. He recently, this year in fact, announced his new show ATLANTA. First thoughts were confusing; the trailers did not tell much and maybe that was for the best thinking back on it now. The first episode premiered September 6th on FX at 9PM and from the beginning of the first episode I knew this show was going to be something special. It is harvested and extracted from the root of the liquorice plant, Glycyrrhiza glabra. First utilized for its anti bacterial and anti parasitic properties, it has recently been tested and shown to be effective in treating hyperpigmentation by inhibiting tyrosine production by binding to tyrosinase and slowly catalyzing it (Chang, 2009). This would group it as a true tyrosinase inhibitor. It is also a competitive inhibitor, since it is able to bind to TYR s binding site, L dopa) and restricting the substrate from binding. Zebra Danio as a candidate for study Zebra Danios, also known as Zebrafish, and by the scientific name Danio Rerio, are a member of the minnow family of fish: Cyprinidae. Zebra Danios are an ideal candidate for scientific study for a multiple of reasons. They are a beginner level fish, meaning that they are easy to care for and maintain. They are tolerant of a range of water temperatures and pH as well as not being fussy eaters. They are readily available at most major and minor pet stores. They are also viewed as an entry level breeder. The advantage of breeding Zebra Danios are plenty. Female Danios lay many dozens of eggs per day when ready to spawn. The eggs are fully transparent which allows for ready observation of development at every stage of development. Gestation periods were also very quick when compared to other animals. Normal gestation periods in Zebra Danio are 48 hours long. Because of this, observation and analysis of experimentation on danio development. Zebra danios were among the first fish to be genetically manipulated to the extent that lab produced florescent varieties, Glofish®, have been developed and even trade marked.
