Suffering In Toni Morrison s Beloved
Many people often associate various colors to different elements. Each color can represent many
stories and anything can gain a certain meaning from them. Whether it is the luscious bed of ripe and
fresh green grass, presenting the element of life, or the tiny black hole, displaying the element of lack
of freedom, or the alarming hot red and white flashes, blinding the eyes, demonstrating the element of
suffering. Similarly, in the novel, Beloved, Toni Morrison utilizes an assortment of colors as a way to
symbolize the multiple elements people go through: suffering, lack of freedom, and life.
Throughout the novel, the element of suffering is seen through the color of red. The memory of that
suffering can be scarring, as well as acting as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when Baby Suggs is given the house 124 on Bluestone Road by Mr. Bodwin after she is
freed from being a slave, she repeatedly exclaims to Stamp Paid of how the white folks came in [her]
yard (211). This emphasizes the fact that the men are violating the rights of her property. The blue
represents the lack of freedom Baby Suggs is given as her rights are uncared for on Bluestone Road.
By violating those rights, they are essentially violating Baby Suggs s rights of being a free woman.
The system of the whites establishing ownership over Baby Suggs by believing they could violate
these terms of freedom by trespassing her property illustrates the corrupt system of the slavery
foundation. Thus, the author s use of blue which is represented in Bluestone Road demonstrates her
lack of freedom as the slave owners violate her property on this road. Slavery influenced people to
think that they could do whatever they want, when in reality, they are violating the rights of a human
being and her privacy. Thus, Baby Suggs still remains a slave of the whitefolks. It may seem as though
the color blue from the Bluestone Road represents freedom as Paul D arrives there to the house 124 to
begin a new life with a newfound freedom, as seen through Denver, Sethe, and Paul D s
shadows...holding hands (56). However, the fact that Beloved is able to control and move Paul D as a
ragged doll stripps his freedom and establishes control over his life at house 124 on Bluestone Road
(261). Thus, blue represents the lack of freedom Paul D possesses at Bluestone Road. Additionally,
when Stamp Paid is explaining what had happened to his wife Vashti, he describes how she was
instructed to wear a black ribbon by the young master who slept with her (274). By forcefully making
her give up her married life just because the master wants to pursue relations

Indie Video Game Development
Being an indie video game developer is tough work as there s a lot that goes into the development of a
video game. Unlike bigger AAA studios, indie developers only have themselves or a small team to
accomplish this great amount of work and with that, comes a large amount of time having to be
invested into the games creation but how does an indie developer know or gain enough knowledge to
form a prediction of whether that game in development will be a success or not? The answer is simply
data. Just like larger studios, indie studios or developers can use data to collect valuable feedback from
their players/audiences; even if the developer/studio doesn t have any preexisting game titles of their
own. The only thing required is simply a game ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the generation of publicity can be put into the Alpha stage if the studio/developer feels
confident in doing so. An example of this being successful is from the studio Dynamic Pixels , who
shared both their Alpha and Beta builds with popular influencers on YouTube, such as Jacksepticeye
and Markiplier . This decision has allowed their game Hello Neighbor to become a wildly poplar title
while gathering plenty of feedback and data, despite that it s yet to even be officially released! An
example of how many views each Hello Neighbor video generates can be found in the below linked
playlist from the YouTuber, Jacksepticeye who himself has over 16 million subscribers. Hello
Neighbor YouTube playlist by Jacksepticeye. As demonstrated by the above, the usage of beta builds
can generate large sums of publicity which in turn provides valuable feedback from the general public
which can be turned into critical data about your game and its current development. As these
comments/data is provided by the general public, this is usually provided by the members of the
public who have become increasingly interested in your game and therefore your potential future
consumers and once this data is collected and analysed

Dissociative Identity Disorder Research Paper
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID): Dissociative Identity Disorder, formally called Multiple
Personality Disorder, is a severe condition in which two or more distinct identities, or personality
states are present in and alternately take control of an individual. DID patients face more than one
identity in their mental state as if they had multiple personalities. The person with DID also
experiences memory loss that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness (Psychology
Today).

S. Naipaul, a Nobel Prize winning British writer, once said One isn t born one s self. One is born with
a mass of expectations, a mass of other people s ideas and you have to work through it all. We as
humans normally attempt to find our true identity. One isn t born one s self but needs to work with a
mass of ideas to find the true self as V. S. Naipaul stated. It is not quite an easy process, which
involves challenges, struggles and pain. There are various ways to identify oneself and people
normally find a category they fit into and live with that identity. However, there are some people who
experience extreme confusion in finding the true self like DID patients. DID patients face more than
one identity in their mental state as if they had multiple personalities. DSM IV TR further explains
DID in two dissociative phenomena: amnesia and the presence of alter personalities. It states that
individuals with DID includes at least one of the five dissociation phenomena: amnesia, alters,
flashbacks, voices and conversion symptoms. (Heffner)
However, is this all true? Is DID real? Why do some scholars and researchers still believe that DID is
a result of iatrogenesis when it is included in the DSM IV TR as a defined

Essay On Bureaucrats
Federal bureaucrats can slow down or stall a president s agenda by claiming lack of knowledge or by
using interests groups. Bureau chiefs can claim they do not have enough information to make a
decision, especially a decision involving other bureaus. By doing this, they are claiming then need
more time to investigate, which slows the president s policies. By using interest groups, bureaucrats
can go through Congress. This interest groups plead to their Senators and House reps, which takes
longer to have the president s policies in place by law. They can also sabotage a president s agenda by
leaking unauthorized information. This reduces the president s credibility and forces people to think
about the effect of the new information on the policies. Bureaucrats would do these things, because
they support their burea more than the president. These bureaucrats sincerely believe in their bureau s
purpose and feel they must protect its jurisdiction, programs, and budget at all costs (Heclo 275).
Presidents and administrations chance, but the bureaus stay and bureaucrats try to stand in its best
standings. The president can counter the attempts to slow down, stall, or sabotage his administration
by building strong outside contacts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Theme Of Madness In Hamlet
Is Hamlet Sane or Insane That is The Question Madness is a trait which it is difficult to tell its
authenticity. The theme of madness is an essential piece in William Shakespeare s famous play
Hamlet, the protagonist, Hamlet, who just lost his father, and having his uncle, Claudius marrying to
his mother, Gertrude weeks after, he is very upset about the events and became very depressed. When
Hamlet meets the ghost of his father, he decides to put an antic disposition on and started acting crazy
as a part of his plan in order to discover if his father s been murder or not. From time to time, Hamlet s
act of lunacy gets out of control and eventually caused him to lose his sense of reality and actually go
insane, just like when he sees the ghost in his mother s room, but Gertrude did not see or hear a thing,
and he starts to lose his logical sense at the end when he is talking to the Osric and his best friend,
Horatio. Finally, Hamlet s antic disposition overtakes his rationality, controls him, and leads him to his
downfall and many others around him. First of all, there are many situations that prove Hamlet is
rational and totally pretending to be a lunatic. After the ghost reveals to Hamlet that his father was
murdered in his sleep by his own blood brother Claudius, Hamlet decided to put an antic disposition
on. (1.5.173) This event suggests that Hamlet is still being rational and thinking logically and he
chooses to act insane instead of actually being insane, in order

Corporate Social Responsibility Of Islamic Banks
This research adopts a comprehensive and fastidious literature review that covers an array of primary,
secondary, and tertiary sources.
RESULTS
The Islamic banking industry has come a long way in issues of corporate governance. However,
Islamic banks need to be at the forefront of pioneering innovative, impactful, and far reaching social
responsibility and corporate governance practices since for starters, they are faith based institutions.
Islamic banks need to stop resting on their laurels and stop playing catch up in these domains.
Moreover, Islamic banks need to deal conclusively with the array of challenges facing their Shari ah
corporate governance endeavors so as to meet their objectives in a more effective manner.
DISCUSSION
Corporate Social Responsibility of Islamic Banks
Aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility of Islamic Banks:
All the activities of Muslims and Islamic entities are supposed to follow the objectives of Shari ah
known as Maqasid al Shari ah. According to the prominent Muslim sage, scholar, philosopher, and
prolific teacher of the days of ere known as Al Ghazali, The objective of the Shari ah is to promote the
well being of all mankind, which lies in safeguarding their faith (din), their human self (nafs), their
intellect (`aql), their posterity (nasl) and their wealth (mal). Whatever ensures the safeguard of these
five serves public interest and is desirable (Chapra, 2000, p. 118). Individuals, businesses, and the

Procrastination Research Paper
The procrastinator. The prioritizer. The slacker. Which type of studier are you? I believe that I am all
three. Procrastination is basically waiting until the last minute to do something. Prioritizing is to
arrange or deal with things in the order of importance. Last but not least, slacking is lacking in
diligence, care, or concern. Out of all three words, prioritizing sounds the best. Many kids at school
like to procrastinate, mostly with tests, I am one of them. This is why we need to form more study
habits that will help us excel as we enter higher grade levels. Have you ever thought of why you
procrastinate? Maybe it is because you spend multiple hours doing homework, watching television,

The number twenty four says to study all day, every day. Lastly, seven means to study on all the seven
days of the week. Students test scores have augmented, when doing this process. You never know,
studying ten minutes a day may allow your test score to go from a sixty to a ninety. Study habits not
only involve you studying by yourself, but you should ask your classmates or teachers for help. If you
do not discern the lesson that was taught, pull your teacher off to the side and respectfully ask them
for help. Hang around people that do not know the same thing as you, therefore you can help each
other out. Helping friends study is always a benign act. Prioritizing is always the best route to go. If
you prioritize, you most likely will be less stressed when studying for a test. As we enter high school,
there are going to be multiple assignments and tests on the same day, but if you prioritize you can
execute your task very well. To exemplify for you, imagine next week we will have three tests on
different days. Also, that your teacher has told you two weeks before the test. Most of us would
probably wait until the last minute to study. After getting the results, you have only passed one test.
Wouldn t it have been better for you to prioritize, so you could have a better outcome? As my saying
goes, keep your eyes on the prize and

The Pros And Cons Of Conscription
Conscription was a very controversial issue considering the outcomes of this law. It would force men
to provide overseas military service unwillingly. Non compulsory recruitment was neglecting to keep
up troop numbers and as an imperialist Prime Minister Sir Robert Borden believed that the war was
the only way for Canada to be seen as more than a colony.
Many French Canadians, farmers, pacifists and union heads opposed the conscription bill, but Prime
Minister Borden was determined to establish a forced conscription system. He pushed through the
Conscription Act on July 11th, 1917.
The Wartime Elections Act and the Military Voters Act impacted the upcoming election on the

We are proposing a automation system that allows multiple users to control the appliances located at
home or in any infrastructure through android application and from remote location. The system has 3
component those are mobile application to send message to hardware, second is server which stores
data related to user that can be user id, password, username, mail address of user, which also
maintains the update of messages those are sent to hardware, third one is arduino uno kit placed at
home or any infrastructure which actually controls appliances.
Keywords: : arduino uno board, cloud, android application, web server.
1. INTRODUCTION
Generally, when we go out of the house or company or any infrastructure we switch off the light or the
electrical equipments to avoid accidents such as short circuit, firing etc. but sometimes we forget to
switch off, so to do this we have to come back . This is wastage of time and creates lots of chaos and
tension. [6]So to avoid such kind of situation the latest technology coming up worldwide is the smart
home technology this comes under IOT. IOT offers huge number of applications in various
environments for improving the quality of our lives. Smart home is one in which all electrical
equipment around the home technologically automated with highly advanced automatic system. Smart

proactive person. Therefore, I am reliable and understandable to my family and friends.
Somethings up critical moment: The somethings up situation I am choosing the reflect about is how I
have been sleeping in instead of attending certain classes lately.
Attending to Judgment (Positive/ Negative judgments): The positive judgment I am having about
myself is that I am still managing to complete my homework. I also care enough to check blackboard
and connect with classmates about the assignments I missed for those specific days. The negative
judgment I am having about myself is that I am not motivated enough and I need to be more focused.
(Positive/ Negative assumptions): The positive assumption I am making about this situation is that it
will change and I will begin to be consistent and find motivation to attend each class. The negative
assumption I am making about myself is that I might not be fully willing to commit to changing this
bad habit.
(Expectation Motivation): I am expecting a change to come out of this situation. The strongest
motivation factor for me are my grades. My grades have continuously been motivating me throughout
this process.
Attending to Emotion
(Positive/ Negative emotions): The positive emotions I am having in this situation is a sense of hope

Is The Difference Between Henry David Thoreau And E. B. White
Walden Pond, located in Concord, Massachusetts, was a place of inspiration for two well known
authors, Henry David Thoreau and E.B. White. Although, they wrote about the same place, their
experiences were a century apart. Thoreau visited the lake in 1854 where technology still wasn t as
advanced as it was in 1939 when White visited the historical site leading to a different feel for the
place. The authors style of approaching the view of the lake has both similar and different effects
when using point of view, imagery, and logos. In comparison, Thoreau and White use the first person
point of view in their writings, but in contrast they do not have same writing style. Thoreau writes
about his surroundings and writes with serenity. With many details he describes how the forest brings
calm to your soul and you feel connected to God and there is nothing to really care for. He writes
without a real purpose, it seems as if he is rambling to the audience about his thoughts and feelings
indicating them that they should live in simplicity. Thoreau has no real interest in convincing his

getting closer to nature would help the human race reach that simplicity in life. He compares us as
mad ants that are always busy, rushing and we always have something to do. Thoreau goes into details
when he describes the mountains and the morning dew and his morning routines and with the vivid
vision he connects it all back to serenity. White, on the other hand, uses imagery to describe how
technology has advanced since Thoreau had been there. He informs Thoreau that Walden Pond had
become the states property and there are signs all over the site such as no swimming in the pond and
that the pond now had water fountains and people would take their boats to the

Blue Zone Essay
Does Virginia have to potential to have residents who live to be 100+?
Mankind has always had an infatuation with the concept of living forever or immortality. We ve had
expeditions to search of the fountain of youth within Florida; as well as Linus Paulin thinking he
found the key to immortality through vitamins, and later dying from same cancer he claimed vitamins
cured (Offit, The Vitamin Myth: Why We Think We Need Supplements. ). Now author and public
speaker Dan Buettner found a new lead towards living a longer, healthier life. Buettner tracked down
areas that he dubbed Blue Zone, a geographic area of the world where people live measurably longer
lives, and thinks these areas hold the key to living a longer life. But does Virginia have potential to
hold one of these Blue Zones? No, I don t predict that any community or neighborhood in Virginia
could adopt these lifestyles and or cultures. Most Virginia areas lack a sense of community, aren t too
social, practice lazy habits, and don t typically have a strong green or healthy diet. During this paper I
expect to represent that point and why these issues can be connected to our society s standards and
expectations. So let s dive into what s currently in the way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

War As Institution Is Guided By Many Rules That Specify
War as institution is guided by many rules that specify criteria, code of conduct, regulations,
conditions, clauses, etc. These rules, outlined in just war theory, are categorized into the breakdown of
the different stages of war, jus ad bellum, jus in bello, and jus post bellum. The latter is concerned
with the closing stages of war, so that a war is terminated fairly, and the proceedings are executed
fairly. In bello rules guide conduct during war, after the initiation of war, and jus ad bellum concerns
the rightful initiation and justifications of war. These laws, though quite extensive, rest on
interpretations of what war is, and the interpretations of what constitutes war. There are many areas

This statement in and of itself contains many key terms, terms that can be interpreted in a variety of
ways. Frowe defines sovereignty as the political and territorial integration of a state, which implies, as
she goes on to say, that a state needs to have authority over its political system and its borders (53).
She makes sure to highlight these two different types of sovereignty, territorial and political. It is noted
that thought political ambition may drive aggression, it may have little to do with the declaration of an
act of aggression, for self defense is warranted if a lot of land, for example, is threatened to be at loss
due to another s ambition.
Political or territorial, she explains, war threatens more than just the land. It is a threat to the common
life. Calling on political theory, a Rousseauian view, she includes the social contract in her analysis.
On a basic level, this theory says that citizens and state have a contact where the people renounce
some of their rights to the state so the state can protect them. Thus, on a grand scale, it is not, then, the
ownership of the land per se that gives people the right to defend themselves against invasion, Frowe
goes on to explain that it is in fact the self determined way of life that is developed on the lands, It is
this that sovereignty protects, and it is this that provides states with a just cause for war. (54)
Sovereignty then, means much more than physical land, it is the well being of the

The Quality Of Total Quality Management
Total quality management, also known as TQM, which is an umbrella methodology drawing on
knowledge of the principles and practices of the behavioral sciences, the analysis of quantitative and
non quantitative data, economic theories, and process analysis to continually improve the quality of all
processes. Three major contributors to the quality profession include: Walter A. Shewhart, W. Edwards
Demings, and Joseph M. Juran, who taught the concepts of controlling the quality and managerial
breakthrough. There are several common connections between the three contributors to the quality
profession. Shewhart mentored the latter two. Most of which, they adopted and reformed much of
Shewhart s work to expand and evolve their own studies. Shewhart s main focus was finding
economic ways to reduce costs by identifying problems sooner in the process variation and by
reducing the cost of inspection. Shewhart also created the process of Plan do check act. Deming
adapted this philosophy into his own work. Deming s philosophy seen quality as the main force for
businesses and society to succeed and reported this philosophy as a chain reaction. This also matched
Shewhart s principle for quality among economics. Demings and Shewhart s philosophies are similar
because both preached the importance of adapting management processes to create profitable
situations for both businesses and consumers. However, the main difference is that Deming

Essay on Prevention of Animal Overpopulation
Countless lives locked away in cages and forgotten about have overwhelmed our society, it has left

in shelters. It is no secret that this world has become infused with problems that have extended from

of almost eight million cats and dogs have been placed in shelters around the world. Out of these vast

Impacting these numbers were combining cat and dog statistics, participation in rescues and enormous
numbers of incoming dogs and cats (WV Animal Shelter Euthanasia Rates) despite the passing of
animal life, there is still hope in saving them now.
There are many ways for us to help prevent overpopulation in animals, however, the most effective
way is to just spay or neuter. Spaying and neutering is basically removing the reproductive organs of
an animal so that it won t be able to produce any offspring. Of course with every new concept in life, a
series of doubts and concerns are met, in this particular case: myths. Myths such a sudden reaction of
laziness and gaining of weight from the animal due to the procedure, the animal being purebred or
special and the process interfering with future generations of animals, causing the male cat or dog to
feel less of a male, and thinking its best to have a litter of before spaying the female pet. All such
myths have been disproved as the act of laziness and weight gain comes from the owners actions in
overfeeding their animal and having absolutely nothing to do with spaying or neutering, the reality
that one out of four animals put into shelters are purebred and the rest are mixed and therefore no
mutation will come from it, the gender identity does not exist within the pet and as a result there will
be no sudden cases of emotional reaction when neutered.

Fransisco Vaquez de Coronado went to New Spain which was in Mexico with Antonio de Mendoza.
Antonio was the Spanish viceroy in 1535 and he earned early distinction in pacifying Indians. In 1538

Fruit Ph Experiment
Fruits are very delicious and healthy. In this experiment our problem is How does pH levels vary in
different fruits? The independent variable of this experiment is fruits, units: pounds/Ibs. The
dependent variable is the pH levels. The constant variable is the boiling water. The hypothesis for this
experiment is if we test the pH levels of oranges, cherries, and grapes then, the oranges would have a
higher pH because it s a very acidic fruit which would make it have a higher pH level. We will use
boiled water then, add the varieties of fruit we chose into the pot, then strain the mixture of boiling
water and cut up the fruit. The color would tell us the pH level of that fruit.

This is where we got our idea to experiment multiple fruits and find out which has a higher pH level.
Even though in our experiment some fruits maybe more acidic than others, that s fine because our
body needs a balance of acidic and base foods. In the Cabbage Chemistry experiment the cabbage is
the pH indicator meanwhile in our experiment the fruits are the pH indicators. Sometimes we need to
eat more acidic foods because when we play sports for example like basketball or just running we
release a lot of carbon dioxide, which is an acid that lowers the acidity in our bodies. This can lead to
our bodies being imbalanced, so this is why we would need to eat more acidic foods therefore are
bodies can be balanced again. Another similar experiment we found was Candy pH, is like ours except
they re using chocolate candies, sweet candies, and sour candies. We re both testing the acidity but just
different foods. Likewise our procedures are similar because they put the different candies in boiling
water so they can get the color, like

Autoethnographic Writing
Main Post #2
According to Hughes, Pennington, Makris (2012), a criterion for conducting fair and robust
evaluations of autoethnographic writing is its adherence to a logic of inquiry that allows the reader to
trace the path charted, beginning with the initial statement of the problem issue to its conclusions and
applications of data. Conducting impartial research requires ensuring that a comprehensible
illustration of procedures employed is presented for evaluation. It also requires a blueprint for research
design and development, analytic and construal of data collected, deductions, and inferences that
substantiate or refute theories.
Another criterion for conducting fair and robust evaluations of autoethnographic writing requires
transparency of the report submission. Hughes, Pennington, and Makris (2012) assert that researchers
must be clear in the rationale driving the investigation as well as the actions taken beginning with the

Persuasive Essay On Obamacare
Obamacare is one of the most talked about and debated issues of the century. Republicans want it
repealed. Democrats want it to thrive. It s effectiveness is not determined by politics, but by positive
results. The vision of Obamacare is to provide healthcare for all Americans. The legislation provides
the tools and framework to allow this ambitious goal of Obamacare to be met. Now, three years after
its start date, it s clear these goals are well on the way to being achieved. Obviously, in a free society,
there will be those who disagree and will not sign up for healthcare for various reasons. Despite these
people who disagree, the vast majority of Americans are now insured. Obamacare is effective because
it expands overall health benefits, provides coverage for millions, and helps the economy, allowing
Americans to be healthier, live longer, and out of medical debt. The primary purpose of Obamacare is
to provide access to healthcare to all Americans. Since it was implemented three years ago, it has
succeeded in adding many Americans to the roles of the insured. In addition, the insurance provided is
not a watered down version of health care. Each person insured is guaranteed a minimum of 10
essential health benefits.
The 10 essential health benefits were carefully crafted to insure that Americans receive quality health
care. The 10 essential benefits are ambulatory patient services (outpatient services), emergency
services, hospitalization, maternity and

Durdan Fight Club
I decided to read Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk because I have seen the movie and I loved it. There
are two main characters in the story. One of the characters is named Tyler Durdan, he is very crazy and
doesn t care about what everyone else thinks he does whatever he wants. The other main character is
another man but you never get the name of him. He is the very opposite of Tyler, he is quiet and lets
people walk over him. In the story the main character meets Tyler on a plane and he doesn t think that
he is ever going to see him again. However when he gets home he finds that his apartment has blown
up and so he calls Tyler. They decide that they want to do something so they make a fight club so that
men can come and blow off some steam.

Essay On Knowing The Needs In The Community
Knowing the needs that your community has is an important step that is necessary when developing
programs for an organization. To learn what needs are within the community a human service
professional can use the logic model to take the steps for development. The need is recognized and

When dealing with Military allotments, Soldiers will go out and purchase lavish and expensive items
such as cars, furniture, computers and gaming systems with ridiculous interest rates. The soldiers were
allowed to walk into businesses and purchase items with no money down and take it home the same
day. With no cap on how many allotments a Soldier can have, he or she will miscalculate their
monthly spending and at the end of the month have no money left for necessities. The Soldiers then
cancel the allotments in turn failing to fulfill and obligation to pay for their goods. Once the Soldier

Kant And Kant s Categorical Imperative
Immanuel Kant, an 18th century moral philosopher, had contended that the fundamental principle of
morality is the Categorical Imperative, from here will be additionally labeled as (CI) or otherwise
mentioned. He supported his view by suggesting a pure moral philosophy; a metaphysics of morals
that is not solely for rational beings to explore different¬ sources of basic moral principles that are
found through their own observational experience a priori, but additionally for the sake of morality as
it remain vulnerable to all types of corruption. In this paper, I will explain Kant s Categorical
Imperative, break down and analyze the components of the imperative and how he comes to the
conclusion of a Categorical Imperative being a necessary component of morality. I will also explain
the term ought and how it defines a role in determining the boundaries of the Categorical Imperative
and what Kant means by maxims and their role of inspiring our actions. At the conclusion of this
paper, I intend to reach the conclusion that Kant s Categorical Imperative is a fundamental principle of
morality and offers a good foundation for actions pursuant of moral ends. The Categorical Imperative
is broken down in two parts. The first is determining what an imperative is. Kant suggests that
everything in nature and the world works in accordance with laws and that only rational beings
possess the capability of acting in accordance with those laws. Rational beings, referring are able to

Negative Consequences Of Gentrification
I. What is the nature of the issue/problem and how is it framed? East Los Angeles (Boyle Heights) is
undergoing the process of Gentrification. Gentrification is defined as the process of renovating and
improving a house or district so that it conforms to middle class taste. Some scholars define
gentrification as private sector initiated residential and commercial investment in urban neighborhoods
accompanied by inflows of households with higher socioeconomic status than the neighborhood s
initial residents. (Vigdor, Massey and Rivlin, 2002, P. 135). One of the problems with gentrification in
Boyle Heights is that the community members that are currently residing and working in Boyle
Heights are not middle class and thus, the gentrification does not apply to them. The nature of the
problem stems from the unintended consequences of revitalizing a district or a home and history. On
the surface, the word revitalization/gentrification appears to be a good thing. However, when
revitalization s sole purpose is to target a specific social economic group, it creates a wave of
problems. Some of those problems or unintended consequences, include but are not limited to,
displacing families that have lived in a community for decades or even centuries, driving businesses
out, create tensions in communities that insight protest and/or unrest. According to research, some
potential negative outcomes of gentrification most importantly, the displacement of previous

The Importance Of Art Funding For Education Essay
The Importance of Art Funding
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, art is defined as something that is created with
imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings ( Art ). With
that being said, it is almost essential that art is maintained as a general course required for every
student to take. While having art classes in schools available for students is important, it is also
equally as important for the school funding for the art programs to be regulated throughout each
district. By using a simple student to teacher ratio to determine how much money should be allotted to
each teacher, this reoccurring problem could be solved for good.
One of the main problems in the art program throughout the United States is the regulation of funding
within the program. For example, while one teacher has one hundred students and another may have
seventy, the teacher with seventy students gets a budget of five hundred dollars when the teacher with
one hundred gets only three hundred and fifty. On top of that, not only is it unfair to the individual
teachers, but it is also happening all over the United States to teachers in the same district. In an article
about secondary art programs, it states that the art teacher at School Number Two was operating with
78% of the funds as the teacher at School Number One. Because the two schools are within the same
district, this is a difference that seemingly defies explanation (Kraft 55). While

Media and technology can be one type of channel ortoolbox to enhance the learning environment, but
I believe that they are not the only solution for achieving our educational goals. McLuhan (1964)
proposed the idea that medium is the message and the four tiered questions to evaluate new
technology when we think about applying it: what does it extend? ; what does it make obsolete? ; what
is retrieved? and what does the technology revert into if it is over extended? . I believe that if we
seriously rethink those questions before we determine what kind of technology we will use to
improveour teaching, it will lead us to a more neutral decision.

Downhill Longboarding Safe or Sorry?
Many youngsters have taken to the extreme sport of Downhill longboarding as a means to satisfy their
need for speed. Speed. People nowadays can t get enough of it. There are ample ways to reach
ridiculous speeds: fast cars, to racing bikes, superbikes and skiing all break the bounds of too fast .
However, a group of the longboarding community a subset of the skateboarding community seem to

roads at speeds between 30mph and 70mph, reaching 80mph at the professional end of the sport.
30mph. Only 30mph! you might say, I can reach 65mph on a good downhill ski run . Yes, I agree, it
does sound a little slow. Yet, the first time I reached 25mph and fell on a small hill near my house I
realised something: 30mph on a piece of wood on four urethane wheels over hard tarmac with just a
helmet to protect your head and some flimsy gloves (not forgetting the snagging worry of the death
wobble ) all makes for a pretty terrifying experience. Then imagine what 70mph would feel like. Also,

Eisenhower and Patton Comparison Essay
General Eisenhower and General Patton:
A Comparison
Zerrrouk (PN)
From a fiercely brave General, who strictly enforces customs, bravery, formalities, and success; to a
General with a lighthearted mood, down to earth attitude, a steadfast courage, and a integrity and
decency to lead the nations of the world into battle; while both these legendary Generals fought on the
same side, both General S. Patton and General D. Eisenhower were distinctly different Generals. This
paper seeks to outline the differences and similarities between the two Generals by taking a close look
at their lives, and the impacts they had on WWII.

For this action he was stripped of his command over the 2nd Armored Division in Africa. Patton could
not stand to have a soldier that was anything less than what he thought a true soldier should represent.
Patton believes that courage and fear are phenomena which can be governed by training and
discipline, and that fear is lost through intense training and patriotism. Patton did not hate his men, but
he didn t want to see his soldiers hospitalized as injured men with battle fatigue or neurosis, but as a
spectacle of American bravery. Visiting his troops in the hospital got him emotional and he state once
that, They re the best damned soldiers the world has ever seen. One day I bawl the hell out of them
and the next I weep over them.
Patton was relieved of active duty until he was summoned by Eisenhower to lead the 3rd American
army in the breakthrough Normandy. Eisenhower, more than anybody, knew the talents that Patton
had in war; and with the 3rd American Army, Patton cut through the German lines all the way to
Rennes, and then to Nantes, and then stopped at Metz for gas and munitions. Patton was always a step
ahead of everyone especially the Germans. After the push stopped, Patton was ordered to move from
Saar and attack General Von Rundstedt which was deemed impossible by others but not Patton. After

Examples Of Life After Death
The Thought of life after death is comforting for some. For others, there is no life after death. Human
beings are the only animals on earth who understand they will die, and throughout history have sought
eternal life or that life will continue after death (Stewart Williams). Steve Stewart Williams, after
looking at many arguments for and against life after death, tends to believe that he does not have a
ghost of a chance (Stewart Williams). I tend to agree with this thinking as well. Stewart Williams
shows some cases for life after death and then shows some arguments against it.
Stewart Williams looks at the examples of paranormal phenomena first. These are the ideas of out of
body experiences, near death experiences, ghosts, mediums who communicate with the dead, and past
life memories. If these occurrences were what they appear, they would be proof of an afterlife, but ...

People may have the wishful thinking without evidence, but it could still be true. Wishful thinking is
not a way of proving that life after death is false. One last argument is resurrection. This, for Stewart
Williams, has many holes. For one, if it is true the body is resurrected, and we are made of atoms
possible from bodies of past people and possible your atoms go into others in the future, how would
God resurrect everyone? Another question Stewart Williams is maybe God uses other atoms, not
within other people, then would you be the same person you were before death if not made up of the
same material you were when alive. I like the thoughts put forth by Stewart Williams, if we are atoms
and those atoms spread after death, then we would not really be the same. Stewart Williams uses the
idea of the you after death is not the same you from before death you would be a replica. I agree with
that, a replica or clone of you from different atoms would not necessarily be you, almost identically
but could not

The Ferocactus Latispinus
Assignment #2 The ferocactus latispinus, commonly known as the crow s claw cactus, is a barrel
cactus originated from Mexico. The cactus is in the phylum Tracheophyta and of the family
Cactaceae, with three recognized subspecies. It resides in the states of Aguascalientes, Guanajuato,
Jalisco, Querétaro, Zacatecas, Coahuila, Oaxaca, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Puebla, and Mexico State.
The crow s claw grows in mountain elevations of ten thousand feet, and blooms between the months
of October and March. Goats are a great factor in dispersing viable seeds of the cactus. (IUCN) The
body of the crow s claw cactus is barrel like, and averages approximately ten to fifteen inches in
height. Fourteen to twenty three ribs and grey black areoles compose the body of the cactus, along
with four large central spines. The cactus blooms yellow or pink purple flowers in late autumn or the
early winter, and are 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. (Faucon) A distinctive difference between crow s
claw cactus and other plants is that cacti have stems which function as leaves. Because cacti do not
have leaves, stems contain main photosynthetic organs, areoles, and water storage tissues. In addition,
stems are coated with a cuticle, a waxy layer that prevents water loss. A possible hypothesis as to why
cacti, specifically the ferocactus latispinus, have stems rather than leaves relates to the climate in
which cacti grow; environments in which cacti grow in are relatively hot and dry, with little

Geometry Standards
During my level two s I was in a first grade classroom and I had a wonderful experience teaching at
Orchard Hill Elementary, I grew to love teaching first grade. My mother was also a preschool teacher
and my aunt was a kindergarten teacher, so I have always had a passion for teaching lower elementary.
I think first grade would be the perfect classroom to teach, because that is when students are starting to
become less dependent on help from the teacher. Students are still at the age where they love going to
school and are excited to learn. Also, I can empower them to keep having a love of learning for years
to come. Students in first grade are starting to develop their critical thinking and problem solving
skills, so this is very important when it comes to math. I plan on staying in Iowa to teach, so I am
going to be discussing how geometry can be taught in a first grade classroom. Then, I will discuss
how to implement the standards in a first grade classroom. Then, I will discuss briefly how the Iowa

The Design Of The Antipsychiatry Coalition
The second website chosen for review under chapter four is titled The Antipsychiatry Coalition . The
latter is actually a movement whose members created this website to help them deal with the stigma
and stereotyping that is faced by people who have received psychiatric treatment (Antipsychiatry,
2015). The Antipsychiatry Coalition website mainly assists people who feel that harm and pain has
been inflicted on them as a result of them suffering from a psychiatric condition. In most cases, people
usually associate mental illnesses such as psychosis with complete lack of knowledge of one s
autonomous being (Hochwälder, 2013). Consequently, mentally ill patients as well as those placed in
psychiatric facilities are often branded as zombies (Hochwälder, 2013). Therefore, the recovery
process of such people is often difficult because they face humiliation verbally or physically from
others. As such, this website is very useful to people who are trying to liberate themselves from the
stigma that comes with being a psychiatric patient. The design of the Antipsychiatry Coalition website
is such that it makes use of links to provide information on various issues that revolve around mental
illness and psychiatry (Antipsychiatry, 2015). For instance, the link on myth of psychiatric diagnosis
enables the reader to read and learn about the things that people believe about psychiatry yet they are

My Passion For Music
From day to day, I live trying to figure out my purpose of being in this world. No child is born a
mistake irrespective of the circumstances. I was born with a talent, although, yet to be discovered. A
talent is a symbol of who a person really is. When I was younger, my dad put me through music
school hoping that I would learn to play the piano because he wished he did when he was my age. I
was not a big fan of playing the piano so I struggled most of the time. My fingers were so stiff and my
instructor would request that I moisturize and massage them to make them more flexible. However,
the underlying issue was my lack of interest and not my un cooperating fingers.
For some, Music is a way to express how they feel. People see through a person with the sound of
music. Since I really had no interest in the piano, I decided to take a look at other instruments. My
passion for music was decreasing as I could not find an instrument that my hands found pleasure in. A
friend of mine said I should try the violin. She described it as a classical instrument that soothes the
soul. The first few weeks I learned how to play the violin, I started to get a hang of it but as I played I
would always dance. It was weird to my classmates but dancing with the sounds the violin made me
so happy.
One s interest typically leads one to one s talent eventually, one step at a time. This is evident from a
popular quote Talent can t be taught, but it can be awakened by Wallace Stegner.

  • 2. Suffering In Toni Morrison s Beloved Many people often associate various colors to different elements. Each color can represent many stories and anything can gain a certain meaning from them. Whether it is the luscious bed of ripe and fresh green grass, presenting the element of life, or the tiny black hole, displaying the element of lack of freedom, or the alarming hot red and white flashes, blinding the eyes, demonstrating the element of suffering. Similarly, in the novel, Beloved, Toni Morrison utilizes an assortment of colors as a way to symbolize the multiple elements people go through: suffering, lack of freedom, and life. Throughout the novel, the element of suffering is seen through the color of red. The memory of that suffering can be scarring, as well as acting as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when Baby Suggs is given the house 124 on Bluestone Road by Mr. Bodwin after she is freed from being a slave, she repeatedly exclaims to Stamp Paid of how the white folks came in [her] yard (211). This emphasizes the fact that the men are violating the rights of her property. The blue represents the lack of freedom Baby Suggs is given as her rights are uncared for on Bluestone Road. By violating those rights, they are essentially violating Baby Suggs s rights of being a free woman. The system of the whites establishing ownership over Baby Suggs by believing they could violate these terms of freedom by trespassing her property illustrates the corrupt system of the slavery foundation. Thus, the author s use of blue which is represented in Bluestone Road demonstrates her lack of freedom as the slave owners violate her property on this road. Slavery influenced people to think that they could do whatever they want, when in reality, they are violating the rights of a human being and her privacy. Thus, Baby Suggs still remains a slave of the whitefolks. It may seem as though the color blue from the Bluestone Road represents freedom as Paul D arrives there to the house 124 to begin a new life with a newfound freedom, as seen through Denver, Sethe, and Paul D s shadows...holding hands (56). However, the fact that Beloved is able to control and move Paul D as a ragged doll stripps his freedom and establishes control over his life at house 124 on Bluestone Road (261). Thus, blue represents the lack of freedom Paul D possesses at Bluestone Road. Additionally, when Stamp Paid is explaining what had happened to his wife Vashti, he describes how she was instructed to wear a black ribbon by the young master who slept with her (274). By forcefully making her give up her married life just because the master wants to pursue relations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Indie Video Game Development Being an indie video game developer is tough work as there s a lot that goes into the development of a video game. Unlike bigger AAA studios, indie developers only have themselves or a small team to accomplish this great amount of work and with that, comes a large amount of time having to be invested into the games creation but how does an indie developer know or gain enough knowledge to form a prediction of whether that game in development will be a success or not? When Hamlet meets the ghost of his father, he decides to put an antic disposition on and started acting crazy as a part of his plan in order to discover if his father s been murder or not. From time to time, Hamlet s act of lunacy gets out of control and eventually caused him to lose his sense of reality and actually go insane, just like when he sees the ghost in his mother s room, but Gertrude did not see or hear a thing, and he starts to lose his logical sense at the end when he is talking to the Osric and his best friend, Horatio. Finally, Hamlet s antic disposition overtakes his rationality, controls him, and leads him to his downfall and many others around him. She makes sure to highlight these two different types of sovereignty, territorial and political. It is noted that thought political ambition may drive aggression, it may have little to do with the declaration of an act of aggression, for self defense is warranted if a lot of land, for example, is threatened to be at loss due to another s ambition. Political or territorial, she explains, war threatens more than just the land. It is a threat to the common life. Calling on political theory, a Rousseauian view, she includes the social contract in her analysis. On a basic level, this theory says that citizens and state have a contact where the people renounce some of their rights to the state so the state can protect them. Thus, on a grand scale, it is not, then, the ownership of the land per se that gives people the right to defend themselves against invasion, Frowe goes on to explain that it is in fact the self determined way of life that is developed on the lands, It is this that sovereignty protects, and it is this that provides states with a just cause for war. With no cap on how many allotments a Soldier can have, he or she will miscalculate their monthly spending and at the end of the month have no money left for necessities. The Soldiers then cancel the allotments in turn failing to fulfill and obligation to pay for their goods. Once the Soldier stop making payments, companies will then file for an involuntary allotment to get their money. It is Department of Defense (DoD) policy that military members pay their just financial obligations in a proper and timely manner. Creditors who have been awarded a civil judgment against a military member may seek enforcement of the judgment by applying for an involuntary allotment from the member s military pay . (Collecting a Debt, 2014) Mrs. George also stated that so many Soldiers were getting suits filed against them that the Army started to investigate the companies and found that the companies were targeting and taking advantage of Soldiers and their families. On 1 June 2015, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel changed the policy pertaining to military allotments. The new policy prohibits service ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Kant And Kant s Categorical Imperative Immanuel Kant, an 18th century moral philosopher, had contended that the fundamental principle of morality is the Categorical Imperative, from here will be additionally labeled as (CI) or otherwise mentioned. He supported his view by suggesting a pure moral philosophy; a metaphysics of morals that is not solely for rational beings to explore different¬ sources of basic moral principles that are found through their own observational experience a priori, but additionally for the sake of morality as it remain vulnerable to all types of corruption. In this paper, I will explain Kant s Categorical Imperative, break down and analyze the components of the imperative and how he comes to the conclusion of a Categorical Imperative being a necessary component of morality. I will also explain the term ought and how it defines a role in determining the boundaries of the Categorical Imperative and what Kant means by maxims and their role of inspiring our actions. At the conclusion of this paper, I intend to reach the conclusion that Kant s Categorical Imperative is a fundamental principle of morality and offers a good foundation for actions pursuant of moral ends. The Categorical Imperative is broken down in two parts. The first is determining what an imperative is. Kant suggests that everything in nature and the world works in accordance with laws and that only rational beings possess the capability of acting in accordance with those laws. • 30. Negative Consequences Of Gentrification I. What is the nature of the issue/problem and how is it framed? East Los Angeles (Boyle Heights) is undergoing the process of Gentrification. Gentrification is defined as the process of renovating and improving a house or district so that it conforms to middle class taste. Some scholars define gentrification as private sector initiated residential and commercial investment in urban neighborhoods accompanied by inflows of households with higher socioeconomic status than the neighborhood s initial residents. (Vigdor, Massey and Rivlin, 2002, P. 135). One of the problems with gentrification in Boyle Heights is that the community members that are currently residing and working in Boyle Heights are not middle class and thus, the gentrification does not apply to them. The nature of the problem stems from the unintended consequences of revitalizing a district or a home and history. On the surface, the word revitalization/gentrification appears to be a good thing. However, when revitalization s sole purpose is to target a specific social economic group, it creates a wave of problems. Some of those problems or unintended consequences, include but are not limited to, displacing families that have lived in a community for decades or even centuries, driving businesses out, create tensions in communities that insight protest and/or unrest. According to research, some potential negative outcomes of gentrification most importantly, the displacement of previous occupants of urban ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Importance Of Art Funding For Education Essay The Importance of Art Funding According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, art is defined as something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings ( Art ). With that being said, it is almost essential that art is maintained as a general course required for every student to take. While having art classes in schools available for students is important, it is also equally as important for the school funding for the art programs to be regulated throughout each district. By using a simple student to teacher ratio to determine how much money should be allotted to each teacher, this reoccurring problem could be solved for good. One of the main problems in the art program throughout the United States is the regulation of funding within the program. For example, while one teacher has one hundred students and another may have seventy, the teacher with seventy students gets a budget of five hundred dollars when the teacher with one hundred gets only three hundred and fifty. On top of that, not only is it unfair to the individual teachers, but it is also happening all over the United States to teachers in the same district. In an article about secondary art programs, it states that the art teacher at School Number Two was operating with 78% of the funds as the teacher at School Number One. Because the two schools are within the same district, this is a difference that seemingly defies explanation (Kraft 55). While ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human beings are the only animals on earth who understand they will die, and throughout history have sought eternal life or that life will continue after death (Stewart Williams). Steve Stewart Williams, after looking at many arguments for and against life after death, tends to believe that he does not have a ghost of a chance (Stewart Williams). I tend to agree with this thinking as well. Stewart Williams shows some cases for life after death and then shows some arguments against it. Another question Stewart Williams is maybe God uses other atoms, not within other people, then would you be the same person you were before death if not made up of the same material you were when alive. I like the thoughts put forth by Stewart Williams, if we are atoms and those atoms spread after death, then we would not really be the same. • 39. The Ferocactus Latispinus Assignment #2 The ferocactus latispinus, commonly known as the crow s claw cactus, is a barrel cactus originated from Mexico. The cactus is in the phylum Tracheophyta and of the family Cactaceae, with three recognized subspecies. It resides in the states of Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Querétaro, Zacatecas, Coahuila, Oaxaca, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Puebla, and Mexico State. The crow s claw grows in mountain elevations of ten thousand feet, and blooms between the months of October and March. Goats are a great factor in dispersing viable seeds of the cactus. (IUCN) The body of the crow s claw cactus is barrel like, and averages approximately ten to fifteen inches in height. Fourteen to twenty three ribs and grey black areoles compose the body of the cactus, along with four large central spines. The cactus blooms yellow or pink purple flowers in late autumn or the early winter, and are 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. (Faucon) A distinctive difference between crow s claw cactus and other plants is that cacti have stems which function as leaves. Because cacti do not have leaves, stems contain main photosynthetic organs, areoles, and water storage tissues. In addition, stems are coated with a cuticle, a waxy layer that prevents water loss. A possible hypothesis as to why cacti, specifically the ferocactus latispinus, have stems rather than leaves relates to the climate in which cacti grow; environments in which cacti grow in are relatively hot and dry, with little ... The latter is actually a movement whose members created this website to help them deal with the stigma and stereotyping that is faced by people who have received psychiatric treatment (Antipsychiatry, 2015). The Antipsychiatry Coalition website mainly assists people who feel that harm and pain has been inflicted on them as a result of them suffering from a psychiatric condition. In most cases, people usually associate mental illnesses such as psychosis with complete lack of knowledge of one s autonomous being (Hochwälder, 2013). Consequently, mentally ill patients as well as those placed in psychiatric facilities are often branded as zombies (Hochwälder, 2013). Therefore, the recovery process of such people is often difficult because they face humiliation verbally or physically from others. As such, this website is very useful to people who are trying to liberate themselves from the stigma that comes with being a psychiatric patient. The design of the Antipsychiatry Coalition website is such that it makes use of links to provide information on various issues that revolve around mental illness and psychiatry (Antipsychiatry, 2015). I was born with a talent, although, yet to be discovered. A talent is a symbol of who a person really is. When I was younger, my dad put me through music school hoping that I would learn to play the piano because he wished he did when he was my age. I was not a big fan of playing the piano so I struggled most of the time. My fingers were so stiff and my instructor would request that I moisturize and massage them to make them more flexible. However, the underlying issue was my lack of interest and not my un cooperating fingers. For some, Music is a way to express how they feel. People see through a person with the sound of music. Since I really had no interest in the piano, I decided to take a look at other instruments. My passion for music was decreasing as I could not find an instrument that my hands found pleasure in. A friend of mine said I should try the violin. She described it as a classical instrument that soothes the soul. The first few weeks I learned how to play the violin, I started to get a hang of it but as I played I would always dance. It was weird to my classmates but dancing with the sounds the violin made me so happy. One s interest typically leads one to one s talent eventually, one step at a time.
