Alcohol And Gamblers Anonymous Meeting
Alcohol and Gamblers Anonymous Meeting As we go through the day we pause, when agitated or
doubtful, and ask for the right thought or action. We constantly remind ourselves we are no longer
running the show, humbly saying to ourselves many times each day Thy will be done. We are then in
much less danger of excitement, fear, anger, worry, self pity, or foolish decisions. We become much
more efficient. We do not tire so easily, for we are not burning up energy foolishly as we did when we
were trying to arrange life to suit ourselves Alcohol Anonymous. Alcohol and gambling are two
addictions that impair an individual judgment, decision making, learning and memory, and behavior
control. Moreover, the focus of this paper will explore the two different types of meetings I attended
and then compare and contrast both. Alcohol Anonymous Meeting I attended the Alcohol Anonymous
(AA) meeting on Friday right after internship, which is located on 205 SW 23rd St, Ft. Lauderdale,
FL. I was a little bit shock after arriving to the location because the building was surrounded around
residential homes, for a moment I thought I was lost. The meeting started promptly at 5:30pm for an
hour and meets four days a week. The topic of the meeting was HALT which stand for hungry, along,
and tired. Ordinarily, the guest speaker of the meeting is also a recovering alcoholic. He greeted
everyone and passed out literature that was going to be discussed in the group. I notice during the

Similarities Between Benjamin Franklin And Malcolm X
Benjamin Franklin and Malcolm X were both influential people in their time. They are models of the
American Character, persistent, innovative, virtuous and courageous. Benjamin Franklin was even
given the title of The First American for his relentless campaign for colonial unity.
Benjamin Franklin is a man of many titles, along with being one of our founding fathers he also is an
author, the postmaster of the time, an inventor, a diplomat, a civic activist and many more things.
Franklin had three qualities that reflected the values and characters of Americans in the 18th Century.
He was virtuous, persistent, and innovative; these traits contribute to the reason he is pictured now as
the model for the American Dream. When he was only 20 years old, Benjamin Franklin crafted his
own 13 virtues to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of his virtues included Industry, Cleanliness, Silence, and Frugality which reflected values that
he thought were necessary to live a fruitful life. These virtues that were important to Franklin were
also important to the American people. The 18th century was a time for industry and many Americans
valued frugality to live a simple but prosperous life. Secondly, Benjamin Franklin was persistent. Like
many other leaders in the 18th century, he was relentless to achieve his goals and would not stop until
they were accomplished. Even at a young age when Benjamin Franklin wanted to become a printer,
and his father was set on him becoming a minister, he traveled to Pennsylvania to become an
apprentice and later ran the publication of the Pennsylvania Gazette, one of the most successful
newspapers of the time. His persistence mirrored that of the leaders of the American Revolution who
would not stop fighting until Freedom was achieved. Lastly, Franklin was innovative. His various
inventions such as the Franklin stove, the lightning rod, and bifocals changed the lives

Medication Errors And The Efficiency Of Medication...
McComas, Riingenm and Kim (2014), conducted a study that investigated the occurrence of
medication errors and the efficiency of medication administration following the implementing an
eMAR system. The study was conducted in an appropriate setting and all observed nurses volunteered
for the study. Before implementing the eMARs mandatory class were provided and nurses were
evaluated for competency. Data was collected by observation and nurses were randomly followed
throughout a medication pass. Collected data consisted of medication errors, distractions during
medication pass and amount of time spent administering medications.
The results of this study was that the percentage of medication errors decreased following the
implementation of eMARs. Although medication errors were decreased, the authors found that the
eMAR system decreased efficiency and disturbed workflow. The authors state that factors such as
missing medications, preparing medication at the bedside, and distractions contributed to this and are
factors that can be improved. The author s identified the presence of several limitation in the study.
The use of one individual to collect data created a possibility of bias and the observation of nurses
may have affected the behaviors of the nurse. Also, the authors state that the study was not a cause and
effect study and was only conducted on one unit which decreased the generalizability of the study.
According the hierarchy of evidence for intervention studies, this

Strength In Football
As presented by (Bompa,1999), Football is a very complicated sport in which there are many
components of fitness that are important. (Garcia Pinillos, 2015) specified The elemental movement
patterns in football require a rapid force development and high power output. It is essential for a
footballer to have good agility in order to avoid tackles and change direction quickly in order to
defend effectively and stop their opponents from getting past. For similar reasons, Speed is also
important for a footballer to possess as it can allow them to beat their opponents to the ball across a
short distance. Another important component is power, as shown by (Garcia Pinillos 2015). Without
power, a footballer wouldn t be able to compete for the ball ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This will be beneficial to my client because as indicated by (Bangsbo, 2015), high intensity training
leads to a higher VO2max. This will help allow my client to perform to his full potential throughout
the whole match and will directly influence one of his targets as covering more distance will become
easier. Although (Buchheit, 2013) said that short dashes are very specific to football, I chose to add an
extra distance for my client to run. The final distance makes the session just a little harder than the
worst possible situation in a match. As a result, he will find it easier to deal with those situations
because he ll already be used to working at that intensity for longer than he has

Abolitionists Suffragettes
Before the Civil War even started, women were already fighting for their rights. Many started out as
abolitionists, but eventually joined the movement for women s suffrage. The movement continued to
grow throughout the 19th century, while at times uniting with the anti slavery movements in order to
fight for the ultimate right of voting. When the 14th and 15th amendment were passed after the civil
war, the women were blindsided when only black men were granted the right to vote and they were
not even mentioned. Immediately after these amendments, a great divide between the women s
suffrage movement and abolitionists. Although it was necessary for the black men to secure their
rights, because if they do not they might not be able to attain them ... Show more content on

In this case, it was absolutely necessary for women to sacrifice their needs and rights, because if
blacks refused to acknowledge the rights given to them, Congress might not have granted them again.
Although this completely betrayed women, it was a necessary but unfortunate betrayal. Many women
agreed with this, including J Elizabeth Jones, an American suffragist, and abolitionist, who stated,
Shall the loyal disfranchised men... be kept out of their inheritance all that time, because we are
despoiled of ours? Some of them are educated, wealthy... shall we say to them stand back, turn again
into the rugged paths of proscription? She supported women s suffrage, but also understood that they
are fighting the same battle as the women and it is only fair that women wait their turn and let the
blacks enjoy their rights. Also, if the blacks were to not acknowledge their rights, they might not be
able to ensure them in the future. By Congress giving them the rights, the blacks are not doing them
any favors, rather Congress is doing them a favor that might not occur again. On the other hand, Susan
B. Anthony, a prominent leader of the women s suffrage movement, wrote in an abolitionist
newspaper, The Revolution, The old anti slavery school says women must stand back and wait until

Suffragette Movie Essay
I was given the opportunity to watch the movie Suffragette. The movie illustrated the struggle women
endured while pursuing the right to vote. Lives of actual women who participated during the
movement were illustrated in the film along with fictional characters. I used the full names of real life
characters, and just the first name of fictional characters in this essay.
In watching the plot unfold I could not help but notice the social structures and emotions fall in to
design. The characters covered realistically: nuclear families, role conflict, role distancing,
dramaturgical analysis, social groups, deviance, crime, social stratification, government power and
policy ending with altruistic suicide, and the impact of global village.
The opening sketch begins with a young woman named Maud who works in a laundry with her
husband Sonny, the milieu is early 19th century Great Britain. Maud has worked in the laundry
starting at a very young age. She has managed to work her way up to forewoman. Maud and Sonny

her deviant behavior. Maud has a second run in with the police and Sonny ejects her from the house,

the social deviance Maud is taking part in. Maud experiences role strain and she flips out, attacking
her employer when he makes yet another sexual advancement on her.
Conversely, Maud becomes a full fledged Suffragette and actually starts to partake in crime. She has
committed to her social group, and she is adopting their culture. She must now cultivate a new form of
emotional management, she must not let her sentiments control her, she must control them. . Maud has
a cause worth fighting for, and she finds her voice, acclimating

Social Media Effects On Relationships
Social Media Interaction Effects on Relationships Social media have become integrated deeply in
people s daily lifestyle. People inherently like relationships and social interactions. Social media
platforms are web mediated technology, or applications where it allows people to perform an
individual account or group account, enabling them to post statuses, comments, pictures and even

anywhere, and the technological developments as advanced mobile phones, tabs and iPad have ease
this so much. Different genders and age intervals are using these social media platforms such as

bad, beneficial or weakens the real social life instead. Most of studies were circulating around young
users and their behavior. However, there is a new launch of elderly social networking behavior.

Genetic Relatedness Between Modern Humans And Neandertals...
a. Provide a brief summary of what we know about the genetic relatedness between modern humans,
neandertals and chimpanzees
Neandertals are similar to humans across most of the genome. They are about as similar as two
humans are to each other. However, in some parts of the Neandertal genome Neandertals had more in
common with chimpanzees than with humans. This shows that humans went through many changes to
make them different than chimps. According to Svante Paabo, Neandertals contributed very little to
the genetic makeup of modern humans. Researchers think that people who are lactose intolerant may
have inherited this gene from the Neandertals. FOXP2 gene is the gene that is associated with speech
in humans. Researchers found that it was also a gene in Neandertals. This could mean that Neandertals
could speak. Humans and chimps are only 1% different.
b. How can such a small DNA difference between humans and chimps create such large physical and
functional differences?

d. How might a gene that controls chewing influence the size of our brains?
In humans we have a genetic glitch (missing two letters) in the muscle making gene that controls
chewing. It only allows us to chew with the fraction of force that an ape does. Humans and chimps
have several independent bone plates in our skulls that let our heads get bigger as we grow. The jaw
muscle pulls against these plates. In an ape the forces can be enormous. All of this power forces an ape
s skull plates to fuse together at an early age, putting limits on how much the brain can grow. In an
human the plates remain open for growth until about age 30. This allows us to make space for our
brain to grow.
e. What did studies on individuals with microcephaly tell us about the genes involved in brain growth?
How do these genes compare in humans and

Due Process
Due Process

Abstract
We all wonder what the words life, liberty, and property derived from. In this paper I will be
explaining what due process is and how it relates to life, liberty, and property. I will also explain
where due process came from and what 2 amendments relate to due process. Before we start though I
would like you to know that due process is there to protect the defendant under proving guilty.
Define due process and its origin? Due process refers to a set of established legal principles, derived
from the Constitution, that seek to protect the rights if citizens. It is done to insure that the government
treats all the individuals properly and does not abuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Substantive refers to the specific rights being denied, even if the process is deemed fair. Actions are
taken by the state in a process that would be considered fair, but could still be challenged on the basis
that it improperly denies a right. Substantive is which includes all your basic amendment rights. An
example could be Griswold vs. Connecticut (1995). Connecticut law made it illegal for doctors to
dispense birth control to their patients. The court ruled that the law violated the Constitution not
because it was passed or applied improperly, but because it denied that patients their right to privacy.
Another example could be the law that Pennsylvania has that everyone that wants to vote will need to
show a valid ID to prove that no laws are being broken. This applies because it goes against a person
right to speech and freedom. One good example I like to think due process came from was from the
Bible on the Garden of Eden, because God did not immediately punish them. The first thing that God
did was ask Where art thou Adam? Thereby giving him notice. God gave him a chance to be heard by
asking Didn t thou eat the forbidden fruit (The Beginning, 2007)? In my options this in when due
process came into affects; no one would like to relate due process to the Garden of Eden time.

The Defense Cooperation Of The United States
The defense cooperation of the United States in Croatia started formally in November of 1994. It was
the time of the Croatian Homeland War, and the United States were the only country that had offered
and initiated some of the defense cooperation programs with Croatia before the end of hostilities in the
region. Throughout the cooperation, different terms were used, like Train, Advise, and Equip foreign
armed forces, or the terms Building Partner Capacity (BPC) and Security Force Assistance (SFA)
rather than Security Assistance (SA). According to the Presidential Policy Directive (PPD 23), those
defense cooperation programs are being part of the Security Sector Assistance (SSA). In the

The three ancient empires are the Maya, Aztec and Inca. Indigenous had no resistance to smallpox and

The Nature of Solitude in Chopin s Novel, The Awakening
The Nature of Solitude in Chopin s Novel, The Awakening
The name of the piece was something else, but she called it Solitude. When she heard it there came
before her imagination the figure of a man standing beside a desolate rock on the seashore. He was
naked. His attitude was one of hopeless resignation as he looked toward a distant bird winging its
flight away from him. (47)
All along the white beach, up and down, there was no living thing in sight. A bird with a broken wing
was beating the air above, reeling, fluttering, circling disabled down, down to the water...when she
was there beside the sea, absolutely alone, she cast the unpleasant, pricking garments from her, and for

The word desolate is used to describe the rock, offering up connotations of a barren, dismal
lifelessness. The figure of the man is naked, or exposed and defenseless. His demeanor reflects
hopeless resignation as he views a distant bird winging away from him. Here resignation can be taken
to mean an unresisting acceptance of something as inescapable and as a surrender. Looking at this
passage in this light, I cannot help but connect it with Robert. After finally vocalizing his love for
Edna, Robert is in a way naked, free of the pretenses of socially conscious manners. Following this
admission, however, Robert leaves off waiting for Edna, gives up on fulfilling his love, due, I think, in
many ways to the social consequences that this would surely bring. Thus Robert too is hopelessly
resigned to social moires which influence him to let his forbidden love wing away from him. This
passage then foreshadows both Robert s resignation and Edna s own experience at the end of the
novel.
The second passage repeats several of the same images. On the beach there is no living thing in sight
and Edna is absolutely alone. Thus the desolation and solitude from the first passage reappear. The
figure of the bird is also depicted again, only in this instance the bird has a broken wing and reel[s]
down, disabled towards the water, closer to the figure of Edna

Although it contains a carbonyl bond additional to a covalently bonded oxygen, water is able to form
strong hydrogen bonding with two of its hydrogen atoms. Propyl ethanoate is only able to form dipole
dipole bonding in addition to dispersion forces in their intermolecular interactions. In contrast, water
is able to form strong hydrogen bonds with surrounding molecules while conforming to dispersion
forces. It follows that water will require a higher boiling point in comparison to isopropyl ethanoate
due to its ability to form H bonds with surrounding molecules, which require a higher heat energy
input to break. As the ester s polarity is low in comparison to water, it is unable to dissolve completely

The Equal Pay Act 1970 is an Act of the United Kingdom Parliament which prohibits any less

explaining the gaps is to analyse the problem in terms of three broad themes:
Under valuing of women s work
An employment penalty for mothers

C. The wage gap
17. There are several dimensions to the problem of the wage gap: First, there is the classic case of a
man and a woman doing exactly the same job (whether in a factory or on the stock market floor), but
the woman being paid less for it. This used to be a common problem, especially in Western Europe,
and many countries have outlawed this type of wage discrimination there even exists an ILO
Convention designed to eliminate it21, dating back to 1951, as well as a 1975 European Council
Directive22. But, as several recent studies conclude, even this type of classic wage discrimination
persists in many countries, which prompted the European Commission to issue a (non binding) Code
of Practice on the implementation of equal pay for work of equal value of women and men as recently
as 199623. For example, a Eurostat study of 2003 showed that the average earnings of women in full
time employment in the EU (at that time, of 15 member states) stood at only 70 90% of those of men.

The Mechanisms Of The Criminal Justice System
CRJ Writing Assignment #1 The mechanisms of the criminal justice system in America function as
more than the instruments for determining guilt in a criminal court case. Through the creation and
enforcement of laws, it is a reflection of our society s morals and values. It is our form of social
control. As set out in our text, in 1964 two models emerged in an article written by Herbert Packer,
Two Models of the Criminal Process. Professor Packer proposed that there are two fundamental
criminal justice models: the crime control model and the due process model. Decision making within
the criminal justice system is based on these two philosophical models. Historically, emphasis for one
model over the other has shifted back and forth throughout the evolution of American culture. The
crime control model is oriented toward law and order, the protection of society over the rights of
individual defendants; while the due process model is attentive to the legal procedures and
constitutional rights of the accused. This back and forth emphasis with either the conservative model
of crime control vs. the liberal model favoring due process is known as how the pendulum swings. If I
had to select one, I would choose the crime control model. Primarily because this is the most efficient
and money saving to all involved. Like an assembly line, the crime control model emphasizes the
quick and effective administration of justice through set procedures and direct handling of cases from

Difference between Text Messaging and Abbreviations
Social media sites such as Twitter only allow a limit of 140 character per tweet. This limits the amount
of words you can use in a tweet. This forces the users to get their ideas across in the shortest way
possible. For many, this results in the use of text talk. This is a type of shorthand and it creates a whole
new language consisting of abbreviations. LOL, BRB, SMH and TTYL are a few examples of the
abbreviations from this text talk language, theses terms are used every day amongst teens. These text
terms add more to a sentence and in text more then just a simple abbreviation for a word or phrase.
Abbreviations as short has three letters can add a whole new tone to what is said over a text massage.
LOL (laugh out loud) for example is used to add a joking or playful tone to a messages almost like a
type of punctuation and in some cases it replaces a punctuation. This abbreviation doesn t always
indicate literal laughter either. This is how text talk and normal abbreviations vary. Text talk is surly
changing the way we talk and communicate with people in our every day lives. theses text short hand
are becoming a language on its own. Now the question is how does this writing form change the way
we communicate with people. We no longer have to ride on horse back for miles just to deliver a
single letter. However, we now have cell phones and laptops, and with these social media. Writing
letters was once an semi social activity between two people. Writing letters

4x4 Truck Research Paper
Remember those monster 4x4 trucks that you see on television? Even though we usually don t see
such humongous vehicles on our roads, most people still associate 4x4 trucks with extra big tires. And
indeed, making the right tire choice is a critical part in determining the fun and performance you can
get from your truck. In making an educated tire choice for your specific truck, you have to bear in
mind several considerations. But chief among all the considerations involved, you must remember the
guiding principle that usage comes first. Don t be carried away by the looks of the tire. A lot of people
make the mistake of going for the fiercest looking, biggest, fattest tire that their budget can afford.
Yes, having a nice looking tire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A low profile tire looks great from the side because of the aggressiveness character, but your ride
quality will definitely suffer when riding over bumps, humps or the occasional pothole. And if you
want to go off roading, then low profile tires are an absolute no no. Driving through rough terrains
require you to have a high profile tire so that you have more sidewall height to have extra suspension
and to cushion your rims from damage. If you dare to use low profile tires to go off road, I can
certainly guarantee that your rims will be dented or spoilt. Then you ll want to consider if you will be
doing serious mud bogging. If so, you will need special mud tires as these are specially designed for
extra rough road conditions. The tire tread pattern is vastly different from conventional road tires. Not
only are the spaces in the pattern made wider so as to help clear out the mud more efficiently, the tread
pattern itself is designed to provide extra grip and traction to crawl through the sticky mud. Without
using mud tires, you will be stuck in the mud in no time because of the lack of

the country up to the local level including age old population shifts, family makeup, languages

Example Of Participant Observation
I used a combination of external observations, complete participant observation, and researcher and
participant observations during the information session. Before the information session began, I went
to the lobby and observed the clients while they were waiting. Most people decided to sit down and
play with their phones while they waited to check in. This would be unobtrusive observation because
the clients were not aware I was observing them or who I was in those moments. The lobby is a
welcoming environment, we have a receptionist to greet and assist visitors, restrooms, and
comfortable furniture. It really represents the value of providing a quality space for our clients and the
community. We have our motto posted on a glass wall behind the receptionist desk, Inspiring the
courage to hope, and teaching the skills to cope. I was a complete observer during this part of the
information session, because the clients did not know who I was in that moment and I had not directly

not consciously make a decision to quit taking medication that is critical for anyone living with

Working at this agency in this department, you need the ability to recognize if your client is facing

Psychology Case Study Mason Jones
Mason Jones is a three and a half year old preschool student whom struggles with several
developmental delays. The most prominent of Mason s delays appear to be his speech and social
development. In addition, Mason s gross and fine motor skills are not progressing appropriately for a
child his age as well. Mason is currently placed in a two and a half year old preschool program
although he will be turning four years old in August. Mason is the oldest of his classmates; however,
that is not apparent due to his developmental delays. Unfortunately, a major challenge for Mason and

Children in Hospice
Children in Hospice
Katrina Williams
RES/110

Professor James Lazos
Children in Hospice
Research suggests that every year there are between 100,000 to 150,000 children born in the United
States with a genetic disorder or defect. This represents approximately 20% of infant deaths each year.
However, many of these children live to age well beyond the expectation, and some are enrolled in
hospice. According to Armstrong Daily and Zarbock (2001), The concept of hospice today is applied
to patients who are traveling through the final stages of their lives in effect seeking shelter and
comfort. Hence, the main focus of this program is to prepare families for the death of a loved one.
Although accepting these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even when hospitalized, parents must be prepared to fight for the right of their child to live because
many medical professionals give the impression that any effort would be useless. Many parents are
even willing to care for the child within the home but there are no resources available to assist with
care other than nursing. This should be a key area for concern as the patient is expected to live six
months in most cases and it is more than enough time to prepare for the child s death. When that time
has passed and the child is still progressing, one is only left to wonder the next step. At this point, time
spent creating memories with family should be top priority.
It is my recommendation that the health care community implement a network of resources for parents
who are not willing to accept and grieve but are willing to accept and fight to prolong the life of their
child. Resources and information should be readily available to assist with any type of services that
would bring relief for situations ranging from housing to therapy. Medical professionals also should be
required to take a course in patient relations giving some insight into the emotional turmoil that many
parents experience. This probably would change some parent s perception of the medical profession
because discretion and empathy would be used when providing information about the child s
condition. Any feelings of hopelessness may be eliminated and replaced with feelings of relief

A Brief Note On The Issue Of Plastic Pollution
Plastic Pollution has been affecting us ever since plastic has been invented. It has been
affecting mostly our oceans. Plastic has been killing thousands and thousands of sea

sea creatures. We as human being have been killing animals for a long time and the fact that there s
something else killing our sea creatures. There isn t many ways to solve it. Its like trying to
find a solution to global warming. Obviously, there isn t any solutions for the pollution in the ocean.

The pieces of plastic are either fishing ropes or nets that are made from plastic or those plastic
ropes that you use for the cans of sodas. Many people don t know that we are affecting the ocean.
Some states ban littering, but they don t ban littering in the oceans, which in this case, causes the
ocean to pollute and kills thousands and thousands of sea creatures.
Plastic is a man made chemical that has been invented in 1907. Back then, plastic did not
have a lot of harsh chemicals and in this time, no one really littered. It wasn t till around the 1950 s
where everything began to change. During this time, thats when people began to litter and when they
decided to put harsh chemicals in the plastic. It wasn t till later in the year where people began to
litter in the environment as well as in the ocean. Now, you can find a lot of plastic items that have
been around in the 50 s, 60 s, 70 s, etc. Plastic does not go away. It stay forever. You think that it
goes away, but in reality, it doesn t go away at all. There has been toys that have been found in the
ocean as well as bottles that have letters inside of them. All this time, people have been fooled
thinking that plastic goes away, but it never does. It stays in our environment for a very long time.
Recycling has no point to it. Either way, when you recycle, the

The Business And Social Media Side Of Medical Advances
Case Study # 1 The Business and Social Media Side of Medical Advances
Introduction: One of the key themes of Biology 311 is the critical interplay between cell and
molecular biology, medicine, business, patent law, federal regulatory agencies (e.g. FDA), defense,
religion and many other aspects of our society that had little to no role in the world of cell and
molecular biology as few as 10 years ago. The attached article appeared as the lead article in The
Boston Globe on Sunday, August 23, 2015, and is an example of how changes in our society can affect
many of the aforementioned themes. Below are questions related to this article. Some are factual

article. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of In Vivo Therapeutics and has a long list of
accomplishments. As a faculty member should he or others who are full time faculty members at any
university or college have constraints on their contributions to and activity with biotechnology
companies? How might you design a fair strategic plan that would allow university research faculty to
translate their work into new medical devices or practices that have both commercial and medical
potential?
As faculty members, there should not be any form of restriction to how much they can contribute to
biotechnology companies since it is their invention on trial. However for effectiveness, they need to
work closely with experts from the biotechnology companies to create a device that fully meets
patients or people s needs for both commercial and medical potential.

Everyday Life Being Deaf
What is it like to be deaf?
Imagine waking up to your mom flashing the lights and stomping her feet on the floor. You can
vaguely see her feet moving and feel the vibration running through the room but you can t hear her
feet hit the floor. This is because you are deaf. When you finally get up you realize your mom is
saying something to you. You quickly wipe away the sleep in your eyes so you can catch her signs.
She uses a form of sign language, called Pidgin Signed English (PSE), that is basically American Sign
Language (ASL) and Sign Exact English (SEE) combined to make an in between language. She tells
you to put your hearing aids in and come down to breakfast. You reach over and put your hearing aids
in and walk downstairs. Now comes the challenge of following your large families breakfast
discussions. You still don t understand what they are saying, even with your hearing aids, but at least
you know who is talking. But that s just life being deaf. Everyday Life Being Deaf or Hard of Hearing

  • 2. Alcohol And Gamblers Anonymous Meeting Alcohol and Gamblers Anonymous Meeting As we go through the day we pause, when agitated or doubtful, and ask for the right thought or action. We constantly remind ourselves we are no longer running the show, humbly saying to ourselves many times each day Thy will be done. We are then in much less danger of excitement, fear, anger, worry, self pity, or foolish decisions. We become much more efficient. We do not tire so easily, for we are not burning up energy foolishly as we did when we were trying to arrange life to suit ourselves Alcohol Anonymous. Alcohol and gambling are two addictions that impair an individual judgment, decision making, learning and memory, and behavior control. Moreover, the focus of this paper will explore the two different types of meetings I attended and then compare and contrast both. Alcohol Anonymous Meeting I attended the Alcohol Anonymous (AA) meeting on Friday right after internship, which is located on 205 SW 23rd St, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I was a little bit shock after arriving to the location because the building was surrounded around residential homes, for a moment I thought I was lost. The meeting started promptly at 5:30pm for an hour and meets four days a week. The topic of the meeting was HALT which stand for hungry, along, and tired. Ordinarily, the guest speaker of the meeting is also a recovering alcoholic. He greeted everyone and passed out literature that was going to be discussed in the group. I notice during the ... • 3. Similarities Between Benjamin Franklin And Malcolm X Benjamin Franklin and Malcolm X were both influential people in their time. They are models of the American Character, persistent, innovative, virtuous and courageous. Benjamin Franklin was even given the title of The First American for his relentless campaign for colonial unity. Benjamin Franklin is a man of many titles, along with being one of our founding fathers he also is an author, the postmaster of the time, an inventor, a diplomat, a civic activist and many more things. Franklin had three qualities that reflected the values and characters of Americans in the 18th Century. He was virtuous, persistent, and innovative; these traits contribute to the reason he is pictured now as the model for the American Dream. When he was only 20 years old, Benjamin Franklin crafted his own 13 virtues to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of his virtues included Industry, Cleanliness, Silence, and Frugality which reflected values that he thought were necessary to live a fruitful life. These virtues that were important to Franklin were also important to the American people. The 18th century was a time for industry and many Americans valued frugality to live a simple but prosperous life. Secondly, Benjamin Franklin was persistent. Like many other leaders in the 18th century, he was relentless to achieve his goals and would not stop until they were accomplished. Even at a young age when Benjamin Franklin wanted to become a printer, and his father was set on him becoming a minister, he traveled to Pennsylvania to become an apprentice and later ran the publication of the Pennsylvania Gazette, one of the most successful newspapers of the time. His persistence mirrored that of the leaders of the American Revolution who would not stop fighting until Freedom was achieved. Lastly, Franklin was innovative. • 4. Medication Errors And The Efficiency Of Medication... McComas, Riingenm and Kim (2014), conducted a study that investigated the occurrence of medication errors and the efficiency of medication administration following the implementing an eMAR system. The study was conducted in an appropriate setting and all observed nurses volunteered for the study. Before implementing the eMARs mandatory class were provided and nurses were evaluated for competency. Data was collected by observation and nurses were randomly followed throughout a medication pass. Collected data consisted of medication errors, distractions during medication pass and amount of time spent administering medications. The results of this study was that the percentage of medication errors decreased following the implementation of eMARs. Although medication errors were decreased, the authors found that the eMAR system decreased efficiency and disturbed workflow. The authors state that factors such as missing medications, preparing medication at the bedside, and distractions contributed to this and are factors that can be improved. The author s identified the presence of several limitation in the study. The use of one individual to collect data created a possibility of bias and the observation of nurses may have affected the behaviors of the nurse. Also, the authors state that the study was not a cause and effect study and was only conducted on one unit which decreased the generalizability of the study. According the hierarchy of evidence for intervention studies, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Strength In Football As presented by (Bompa,1999), Football is a very complicated sport in which there are many components of fitness that are important. (Garcia Pinillos, 2015) specified The elemental movement patterns in football require a rapid force development and high power output. It is essential for a footballer to have good agility in order to avoid tackles and change direction quickly in order to defend effectively and stop their opponents from getting past. For similar reasons, Speed is also important for a footballer to possess as it can allow them to beat their opponents to the ball across a short distance. • 7. Abolitionists Suffragettes Before the Civil War even started, women were already fighting for their rights. Many started out as abolitionists, but eventually joined the movement for women s suffrage. The movement continued to grow throughout the 19th century, while at times uniting with the anti slavery movements in order to fight for the ultimate right of voting. When the 14th and 15th amendment were passed after the civil war, the women were blindsided when only black men were granted the right to vote and they were not even mentioned. In this case, it was absolutely necessary for women to sacrifice their needs and rights, because if blacks refused to acknowledge the rights given to them, Congress might not have granted them again. Although this completely betrayed women, it was a necessary but unfortunate betrayal. Many women agreed with this, including J Elizabeth Jones, an American suffragist, and abolitionist, who stated, Shall the loyal disfranchised men... be kept out of their inheritance all that time, because we are despoiled of ours? Some of them are educated, wealthy... shall we say to them stand back, turn again into the rugged paths of proscription? She supported women s suffrage, but also understood that they are fighting the same battle as the women and it is only fair that women wait their turn and let the blacks enjoy their rights. Also, if the blacks were to not acknowledge their rights, they might not be able to ensure them in the future. By Congress giving them the rights, the blacks are not doing them any favors, rather Congress is doing them a favor that might not occur again. On the other hand, Susan B. Anthony, a prominent leader of the women s suffrage movement, wrote in an abolitionist newspaper, The Revolution, The old anti slavery school says women must stand back and wait until the negroes shall be ... • 9. Suffragette Movie Essay I was given the opportunity to watch the movie Suffragette. The movie illustrated the struggle women endured while pursuing the right to vote. Lives of actual women who participated during the movement were illustrated in the film along with fictional characters. I used the full names of real life characters, and just the first name of fictional characters in this essay. In watching the plot unfold I could not help but notice the social structures and emotions fall in to design. The characters covered realistically: nuclear families, role conflict, role distancing, dramaturgical analysis, social groups, deviance, crime, social stratification, government power and policy ending with altruistic suicide, and the impact of global village. The opening sketch begins with a young woman named Maud who works in a laundry with her husband Sonny, the milieu is early 19th century Great Britain. • 11. Genetic Relatedness Between Modern Humans And Neandertals... a. Provide a brief summary of what we know about the genetic relatedness between modern humans, neandertals and chimpanzees Neandertals are similar to humans across most of the genome. They are about as similar as two humans are to each other. However, in some parts of the Neandertal genome Neandertals had more in common with chimpanzees than with humans. This shows that humans went through many changes to make them different than chimps. According to Svante Paabo, Neandertals contributed very little to the genetic makeup of modern humans. Researchers think that people who are lactose intolerant may have inherited this gene from the Neandertals. FOXP2 gene is the gene that is associated with speech in humans. Researchers found that it was also a gene in Neandertals. This could mean that Neandertals could speak. Humans and chimps are only 1% different. b. Humans and chimps have several independent bone plates in our skulls that let our heads get bigger as we grow. The jaw muscle pulls against these plates. In an ape the forces can be enormous. All of this power forces an ape s skull plates to fuse together at an early age, putting limits on how much the brain can grow. In an human the plates remain open for growth until about age 30. This allows us to make space for our brain to grow. e. What did studies on individuals with microcephaly tell us about the genes involved in brain growth? How do these genes compare in humans and ... In this paper I will be explaining what due process is and how it relates to life, liberty, and property. I will also explain where due process came from and what 2 amendments relate to due process. Before we start though I would like you to know that due process is there to protect the defendant under proving guilty. Define due process and its origin? Substantive refers to the specific rights being denied, even if the process is deemed fair. Actions are taken by the state in a process that would be considered fair, but could still be challenged on the basis that it improperly denies a right. Substantive is which includes all your basic amendment rights. An example could be Griswold vs. Connecticut (1995). Connecticut law made it illegal for doctors to dispense birth control to their patients. The court ruled that the law violated the Constitution not because it was passed or applied improperly, but because it denied that patients their right to privacy. Another example could be the law that Pennsylvania has that everyone that wants to vote will need to show a valid ID to prove that no laws are being broken. This applies because it goes against a person right to speech and freedom. One good example I like to think due process came from was from the Bible on the Garden of Eden, because God did not immediately punish them. The first thing that God did was ask Where art thou Adam? Thereby giving him notice. God gave him a chance to be heard by asking Didn t thou eat the forbidden fruit (The Beginning, 2007)? In my options this in when due process came into affects; no one would like to relate due process to the Garden of Eden time. References Gonzales, Kristin. (2012). What is Due Process? Through Humanitarian Assistance program (HA),US Govt invested in local communities in Croatia almost $0,9 million, including reconstructions of schools and kindergartens, hospitals, building water pipeline, bridges, donating special equipment (incubators), etc. Through the Exercise related Construction program (ERC), US Govt invested to the military training area in Slunj approximately $400.000 for urban warfare training ground, and $400.000 to the training area in Udbina for the new command building. When she heard it there came before her imagination the figure of a man standing beside a desolate rock on the seashore. He was naked. His attitude was one of hopeless resignation as he looked toward a distant bird winging its flight away from him. (47) All along the white beach, up and down, there was no living thing in sight. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word desolate is used to describe the rock, offering up connotations of a barren, dismal lifelessness. The figure of the man is naked, or exposed and defenseless. His demeanor reflects hopeless resignation as he views a distant bird winging away from him. Here resignation can be taken to mean an unresisting acceptance of something as inescapable and as a surrender. Looking at this passage in this light, I cannot help but connect it with Robert. After finally vocalizing his love for Edna, Robert is in a way naked, free of the pretenses of socially conscious manners. Following this admission, however, Robert leaves off waiting for Edna, gives up on fulfilling his love, due, I think, in many ways to the social consequences that this would surely bring. Thus Robert too is hopelessly resigned to social moires which influence him to let his forbidden love wing away from him. This passage then foreshadows both Robert s resignation and Edna s own experience at the end of the novel. The second passage repeats several of the same images. On the beach there is no living thing in sight and Edna is absolutely alone. Thus the desolation and solitude from the first passage reappear. The figure of the bird is also depicted again, only in this instance the bird has a broken wing and reel[s] down, disabled towards the water, closer to the figure of Edna ... It follows that water will require a higher boiling point in comparison to isopropyl ethanoate due to its ability to form H bonds with surrounding molecules, which require a higher heat energy input to break. There are several dimensions to the problem of the wage gap: First, there is the classic case of a man and a woman doing exactly the same job (whether in a factory or on the stock market floor), but the woman being paid less for it. This used to be a common problem, especially in Western Europe, and many countries have outlawed this type of wage discrimination there even exists an ILO Convention designed to eliminate it21, dating back to 1951, as well as a 1975 European Council Directive22. But, as several recent studies conclude, even this type of classic wage discrimination persists in many countries, which prompted the European Commission to issue a (non binding) Code of Practice on the implementation of equal pay for work of equal value of women and men as recently as 199623. The Mechanisms Of The Criminal Justice System CRJ Writing Assignment #1 The mechanisms of the criminal justice system in America function as more than the instruments for determining guilt in a criminal court case. Through the creation and enforcement of laws, it is a reflection of our society s morals and values. It is our form of social control. As set out in our text, in 1964 two models emerged in an article written by Herbert Packer, Two Models of the Criminal Process. Professor Packer proposed that there are two fundamental criminal justice models: the crime control model and the due process model. Decision making within the criminal justice system is based on these two philosophical models. Historically, emphasis for one model over the other has shifted back and forth throughout the evolution of American culture. The crime control model is oriented toward law and order, the protection of society over the rights of individual defendants; while the due process model is attentive to the legal procedures and constitutional rights of the accused. This back and forth emphasis with either the conservative model of crime control vs. the liberal model favoring due process is known as how the pendulum swings. If I had to select one, I would choose the crime control model. Primarily because this is the most efficient and money saving to all involved. Like an assembly line, the crime control model emphasizes the quick and effective administration of justice through set procedures and direct handling of cases from ... Even when hospitalized, parents must be prepared to fight for the right of their child to live because many medical professionals give the impression that any effort would be useless. Many parents are even willing to care for the child within the home but there are no resources available to assist with care other than nursing. This should be a key area for concern as the patient is expected to live six months in most cases and it is more than enough time to prepare for the child s death. When that time has passed and the child is still progressing, one is only left to wonder the next step. At this point, time spent creating memories with family should be top priority. It is my recommendation that the health care community implement a network of resources for parents who are not willing to accept and grieve but are willing to accept and fight to prolong the life of their child. Resources and information should be readily available to assist with any type of services that would bring relief for situations ranging from housing to therapy. Medical professionals also should be required to take a course in patient relations giving some insight into the emotional turmoil that many parents experience.
