Why It Is Important To Greek Art Essay
Excuse me, my friends for bringing up this topic at such a busy time, but I feel like this a topic
that must be addressed. For many years, Athens was the place for culture. Lycon, you remember
those days where you would throw those fantastic parties! Meletus father was a playwright. Look
where it brought them. To this assembly. My fellow Athenians, we must support the arts in order
to become the center place for Greek culture, and so we do not become idiots like our neighbors,
the Spartans. Those in poverty need entertainment. Let s walk through the life of a poor person.
First, they get up in the morning, usually very early, and start to head off for their workplace. At
their workplace, they toil and toil away until it is time to go home.... Show more content on

Imagine a paved road, going straight across the world until it reaches the end of the earth and
falls off. There is only one way to go. A person who follows this way will become a follower, and
will not be able to make decisions, and will eventually reach the end of the earth and fall off, his
voice never to be heard from again. Now, imagine that the road has many branching pathways, one
leading to righteousness, one leading to justice, one leading to a naked man taking a shower. These
are all choices that we can make. When a person appreciates music, their mind is opened up so that
they can make decisions that are more thought out. Take Crito for example. As a follower of
Socrates, and rich man, you must have some musical training. He used his musical training to
develop a new way of eating pork skins! Instead of getting his hands dirty with, he used a piece
of paper to grab his pork skin and eat it! However, on a serious note, if music is supported, then
we will have many people in our assembly who do have different views, and who do think their
ideas out before presenting them. That, in turn, will lead to a fairer democracy, for we will have
more ideas that are of the

How Lanthanum Play A Role Within My Everyday Life
You might ask yourself, How does lanthanum play a role within my everyday life ? Rare earth
elements like lanthanum play an abundant part in our daily lives. In particular, lanthanum is used
in many ways such as improving our water supply, technology and health. This paper will define
these uses and also elaborate on its history and properties. To begin, the discovery of ceria was
made in 1803 by Jons J. Berzelius in 1803 from the mineral cerite. His apprentice, Carl G.
Mosander, took this discovery further suggesting that other rare earth metals might exist within
ceria. By infusing nitric acid to ceriumnitrate, Mosander, tested his belief. Consequently, some of
the cerium nitrates bonded with the acid providing the results that he was looking for. Mosander
separated the results using both sodium oxalate and heat, thus, making the first discovery of
lanthanumin 1839. Lanthanum was first created in the pure metal form by H. Kremers and R.
Stevens in 1923. The element is mined from a variety of ore minerals and deposits in the USA,
China, Russia, Australia, and India. (1) The term lanthanum comes from the Greek word lanthano
, meaning hidden or concealed. It is grouped on the periodic table with fifteen other rare earth
elements being called lanthanides. It has an atomic number of 57 on the elements table and an
atomic mass of 138.91g.mol 1. In pure metal form it is silvery white in color. Soft to the touch, it
is able to be pounded and manipulated as a

Example Of Flexible Work Schedules
Flexible Work Schedule The beginning of work life started at the break of dawn. Most workers
were bound to their work for as long as daylight was available (Chung). During the Industrial
Revolution employees worked in factories on an assembly line(Chung). Workers clocked in at
the same time, took lunch at the same time, and clocked out at the same time (Chung). They
worked as if they were part of the machine (Chung). In modern times employee s work within
office buildings similar to assembly line workers they have a fixed schedule and work towards
the ultimate goal of the organization (Chung). In modern days corporations are considering the
benefits of a flexible work schedule because it can contribute to a successful work life balance by
enriching families, improving an employee s health and improving production. Modern technology
such as cell phones, tablets, and computers permits a more flexible work schedule because it
allows employees to stay connected to the office even if they are miles away (Chung).
Alternative work schedule are schedules does not fit the 8 hr day, 40 hr week definition (Baltes et
al. 496). Some examples of common alternative work schedules include flexible working hours,
compressed work weeks, part time, and telecommuting (Baltes et al. 496). Alternative work
schedules, such as flextime and compressed work weeks, have been adopted by many
organizations over the past several decades (Baltes et al. 496). A recent report that surveyed 1,035

The Stresses that Come with Being a Nurse
Multiple studies over the past twenty plus years have looked at factors affecting the nurse s
workday and the effects it has on them. When an individual first enters a chosen career, he or she
is driven. If the work environment is not encouraging of the individual s efforts and concerns, the
reality of the job and the individual s prospects begin to deviate and frustration and disappointment
happens. (Kerri, 2014) These feelings can bring about job displeasure, resulting in decreased
efficiency, loss of confidence and concentration, and behavior changes. If these circumstances are
not addressed, stressaccumulates and causes typical stress related symptoms. The definite stressors
within the work environment that lead to stress and burnout can be different among occupations
and between individuals within an occupation. The starting place of burnout is in the work
environment, but because not every individuals working in a certain environment will experience
burnout, personal risk factors must have a role in putting the individual at risk for burnout.
Therefore, personality is another important factor to be considered.
Jennings (2010) found that: Neuroticism has been associated with exhaustion. External locus of
control has demonstrated a positive relationship with burnout and stress. Findings are mixed for
hardiness. Evaluations of anxiety reflect a link with stress and burnout. Anxiety is viewed as having
two components state anxiety, the temporary component which manifests

Abstract
Photoluminescence is light emission that form after the absorption of photons. Dye act as a light
absorber. Organic dye is one type of dye, have a small band gap and use as semiconducting
material. It will excite the excited electron after absorb light as energy from highest occupied
molecular orbital(HOMO) to lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO). The energy of photon
must be greater than energy of band gap in order to excite electron. ... Show more content on

Dye always acts as a light absorber. Dye will absorb light to excite the excited electron state from
HOMO to LUMO. So absorbed of photons will be happened and dye will fall back from LUMO
to HOMO. So emission of photon will be happened. So the wavelength during absorbance and
emission process can be identified by using Photoluminescene (PL) spectrometer. By knowing
the wavelength we can determine the concentration of dye. Ruthenium dye is one of the organic
dye where it contains small band gap, so it only needs small energy to excite the photon from
LUMO to HOMO. So if the dye absorb red colour it will reflect blue colour (refer figure 1). Figure
1: a wheel of colour to estimate absorbed light based on colour of dye
Objectives
1. To speculate range of absorbed and reflected wavelength of light by Ruthenium based dye based
on its colour
2. To characterize photoluminescence property of the dye using Photoluminescence(PL)
spectrometer; usng radiation source which energy is based on the speculated absorbed wavelength
3. To estimate energy loss via radiative recombination i.e., recombination of electron with hole in
the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of dye.
Materials and instruments

Review Of Botanical Aquatic Science By Ann Burkholder
Chapter 1 :
Jo Ann Burkholder is to study botanical aquatic science, and in order to do so, she is to start
learning about autoradiography. Due to the fact that she has a low paying job salary, she finds it
hard to raise money for funding her research in the area of autoradiography and botanical aquatic
science. At her age of 33, Jo Ann is around the time of completing her doctorate in the subject of
botanical limnology. She is unable to complete her research completely with success, as she is not
involved with any other scientist, etc, and her group tends to be very small. But, she does finally
end up getting a chance to work with Doctor Edward Noga.

massive breakdown of the Earth, aka later on in time. During the conference, it is stated that due to
issues such as sewage, industrial and agricultural sources, the nutrition overload was excess. Later
on in time throughout the book, it was found that others thought that this was a result of global
warming, etc. Coastal currents and shifts were also blamed, and people started to believe that such
organisms became harmful over time, due to such previously mentioned factors and beliefs.
Chapter 7 :
Jo Ann begins to experience health issues by this chapter, she starts to gradually experience and
deal with the politics of science, and Glasgow become her full time associate. As per Noga, she
finally tells him that she would like to stop working with him. She does so because Noga gradually
become slightly arrogant, bitter, and annoying. They also share an argument regarding who is
considered to be the rightful author of the newly published article, and Jo Ann argues that the first
person to publish the article is also considered to be the first author.

HIPAA, which is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 give Blue Cross
Blue Shield of Tennessee members rights to protected personal health information (PHI). The way
HIPAA works is that it creates national standards to protect a person s medical records as well as
their personal health information (https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for professionals/privacy/). Members
are given more control over their health information and holds violators accountable with civil and
criminal penalties that can be imposed if the member s rights are violated. When employees are

The Lottery by Shirley Jackson
The Lottery, a ritual that no one has ever thought to question, which represents any action, behavior,
or idea that is passed down from one generation to the next that s accepted and followed
unquestioningly, no matter how illogical, strange, or cruel. The oldest denizen of the town, Old
Man Warner, points out that this is his seventy seventh year participating in the ritual, called simply
the lottery. (Dubose 1) The Lottery is so much a part of the town s culture, that the townspeople
does not truly know what the traditionmeans but rejoice at the it nonetheless. That is the force that
drove the theme In Shirley Jacksons the Lottery with her use of setting, symbolism, suspense, and
characters as she exemplifies blindly following tradition with obedience can be dangerous. The
lottery is an extreme example of what can happen when traditions are not questioned or addressed
critically by new generations because of the infamous word tradition.
Jackson lets us know the time of the lottery at the outset of the story. From the description of the
men s talk of tractors and taxes (Jackson 262) and the depiction of Mr. Summers wearing a clean
white shirt and blue jeans (Jackson 262), we may assume that we are in the twentieth century,
making the story s impact more immediate. But why does the author choose June 27 as the date on
which the village holds its lottery? The summer solstice, June 21, has already passed, and the
Fourth of July is yet to come. Lottery in June,

Globalization Of SDN
How SDN will affect job places What is SDN Software defined networking (SDN) technology is an
approach to computer networking that allows network administrators to programmatically
initialize, control, change, and manage network behavior dynamically via open interfaces and
provide abstraction of lower level functionality. SDN is meant to address the fact that the static
architecture of traditional networks doesn t support the dynamic, scalable computing and storage
needs of more modern computing environments such as data centers. This is done by decoupling or
disassociating the system that makes decisions about where traffic is sent (the SDN controller, or

The explosion of mobile devices and content, server virtualization, and advent of cloud services are
among the trends driving the networking industry to re examine traditional network architectures.
Many conventional networks are hierarchical, built with tiers of Ethernet switches arranged in a
tree structure. This design made sense when client server computing was dominant, but such a
static architecture is ill suited to the dynamic computing and storage needs of today s enterprise
data centers, campuses, and carrier environments. Some of the key computing trends driving the
need for a new network paradigm include: Changing traffic patterns Within the enterprise data
center, traffic patterns have changed significantly. In contrast to client server applications where the
bulk of the communication occurs between one client and one server, today s applications access
different databases and servers, creating a flurry of east west machine to machine traffic before
returning data to the end user device in the classic north south traffic pattern. At the same time,
users are changing network traffic patterns as they push for access to corporate content and
applications from any type of device (including their own), connecting from anywhere, at any time.
Finally, many enterprise data centers managers are contemplating a

Welch Mission Statement
Critical Analysis:
In order for corporations to be categorized winning corporations, there must be a set foundation
that allows the corporation and the agents inside it, to move as a cohesive unit towards one
mission. A clear mission is important because it is the base of the creation of a strategic plan in
obtaining the results desired by the corporation. It is much easier to map out the plan towards a
clear, concrete, and descriptive mission statement than one that can be misinterpreted by the
employees making the calls within the corporation. But for a company s mission and values to
truly work together as a winning proposition, they have to be mutually reinforcing (Welch 21).

Welch claims that anyone brought into the corporation should have the first two E s, the ones
which are characteristics of a candidate s personality, energy and energize. When energy is talked
about, it is the inner power of someone looking to do greater things, they are motivated and ready
to work, while energize is the capability to make people feel pumped up and ready to tackle a task
and stay on routine. These two qualities everyone in the corporation should have as well as
intelligence (different than education), maturity, and integrity. Choosing a manager can be tricky
but there are more traits that are needed in order to be a winning manager; the ability to foresight,
authenticity, seeking the smartest people to associate around, and resilience. An effective manager

The Insurgency Of Innovative Gadgets Essay
The insurgency of innovative gadgets began another time on January 27, 2010. At that day, Steve
Jobs, at an Apple occasion, made that big appearance and uncovered a standout amongst the most
intense disclosures of his life. Despite the fact that, the Mac had been presented in business sectors
decades prior, and a couple of years after the fact it was trailed by the IPhone, Jobs, at that day and
on a similar stage, underlined that there was a space for another revelation that fit the
classification of gadget which would fill the crevice in the middle of those two gadgets. The new
gadget, keeping in mind the end goal to be existed, must be better at specific errands as well as
fundamentally more effective. It was the iPad. (Ritchi)
Amid the keynote at that day, and as indicated by Steve Jobs, Apple is a Cell phones Company,
alluding to iPad and iPhone as well as toMacBook s, as well. He guarded Apple by saying that it
is the biggest cell phones organization contrasting with Nokia, Samsung, and Sony. He contended
Apple adversaries who demanded that this organization ought to make a note pad in light of the
fact that the MacBook Air, which had been presented two years before, did not number. He said
that netbooks were surly shoddy portable workstations that have low quality showcases with
moderate processors. He likewise portrayed netbooks as they were worse at anything for they were
awkward old PC software.(Ritchi)

The Diana Phenomenon Essay
The Diana Phenomenon
The sudden death of Diana Princess of Wales at the end of August 1997 sparked off a massive
display of emotion in the world, especially in Britain. The event provided the opportunity for the
expression of what appeared to be a short term and superficial, but undoubtedly sincere, manner by
a large number of people. An emotion felt throughout the countryside was that many people saw
themselves in some way connected to this public figure and able to grieve for her as if she were an
acquaintance. (Lambert 54) However, there remained clear borderlines between what the public,
who thought they knew her, and the immediate family who did.

Long ago, in 1981 to be exact, Diana Spencer retired her role as kindergarten teacher to become
the future queen of England. It was like a Cinderella story right out of the book. But this
Cinderella s skirts were plaid, and her hair was chopped short. She had a nervous giggle, and
was the tiniest bit plump. She was normal, she was regular, and everyone loved her for it. By the
time she was 27 years old, she had been married for eight years and had two beautiful sons. The
fairy tale appeared to still be there, but what the press, who hounded her day and night, failed to
catch was that her life was in a downward spiral even after the short weeks she was married. She
had been bulimic for years, she had tried to kill herself, and she and Charles were living separate
lives. In her telling, the marriage broke up because she d had the impudence to demand a real
relationship...in fairness to Charles, he must have felt the fairy tale got all mixed up: He kissed the
princess and became a frog. (Gaines 98)
Diana s enduring allure surprised everyone, including the princess herself. The public s obsession
with the smallest details of her smart clothes, her hair and her sons made royal family life far
more compelling and exploitable than any TV saga. (London) She loved to pick up babies, whether
or not they had AIDS. When she

Analyzing The Film Story Of The Ark In PEI
In a world that is focused on consumption, living sustainably means living against the grain. Our
final lecture reflection studied different lifestyles that oppose traditional norms and embrace
sustainability. Minimalism is a documentary on people who defy the idea that possessions bring
happiness and choose to live with as little as possible. Toke Miller emphasises the importance of
changing our ways, to see the world with kindness, love, and consciousness. Finally, Steve
Mannell shares the story of the Ark in PEI which promotes a self sufficient alternative to modern
housing. By examining and changing the ways that we live our lives we can approach a way to
live sustainably. Minimalism, a documentary directed by Matt D Avella, explores... Show more

Combining his two disciplines, Steve explains the PEI Ark. The Ark was built in the 1970 s and
strived to change the way people thought about and interacted with technology and the
environment. It is a greenhouse home which re invents modern housing norms. Committed to
living lightly on the earth, the Arc is self sufficient as it is designed to harvest and conserve
energy through the use of solar and wind power. The house desires not have have segregated
systems of production, but many systems which all work together. The greenhouse allows
residents to simply go and harvest foods instead of having to refrigerate and buy foods.
Residents are able to grow foods all year long due to the heat conserving design which can store
heat for up to six months that warms the house and allows food to grow. The house also avoids
using pesticides through integrated pest management! Plant clippings were thrown into an algae
tank which feeds fish that are then sold or eaten. The algae tank also helped with heating the
house, as algae is really good at absorbing and radiating heat. The Ark also had other features
such as a barn and self composting toilets and in total cost only $350 000 in 1975 which converts
to $130 per square foot today (Mannell, S., 2017, March, 30)! I found this lecture to be very
interesting, as I always worry about how my living situation impacts my level of sustainability. In
my home we have two fridges and a large freezer and they use up too much energy. My family
could learn more on how to live lightly on the earth from the Arc, which allows residents to
make dinner from the food in their greenhouse and the fish in their pond, and their food waste
can be thrown into their self composting toilets. If we learned to grow some of our own food,
and to store less in our fridges, we could waste less energy! This reminds of Ruth Forsdyke s
lecture where she spoke about the

Causes of Low Electoral Participation in the United States
In any Democracy, voter turnout is important as a measure of how truly democratic the election
was, the more people that do vote, the more democratic the election. Yet America one of the largest
democratic nations in the world still has a poor turnout.
A survey conducted in 1983 concluded that America was twenty third out of twenty four nations in
respect of its voter turnout, with only Switzerland having a lower turnout, however researchers
believe that the supposed voting age population contains a lot of people not eligible to vote, as

In America there electoral system resembles a modified version of the British first past the post
system therefore if you live in an electoral college that has voted Democrat time and time again, it
may seem like a wasted vote if you support the Republicans. Also the success polls that are
conducted from the very first primaries and caucuses right up to election day build voter apathy.
Statistically those who do higher in these polls the better they will do in the election, assuming that
people vote without partisan alignment, they aren t going to vote for a candidate who is unlikely to
do well in the election.
The US voting system includes voter registration, controlled at a state level, often it is a
longwinded process, with many forms, and a lot of scrutiny over who gets to register. There are
various restrictions in who can register, often convicted criminals cannot vote, and in some
extremes neither can there families e.g. California in the 2000 election. Rules vary from state to
state, some allow registration 28 days before election time and others allow registration on the day
of the election e.g. Wisconsin. Statistics show that in states where there is election day registration
turnout is ten percentage points higher than in those without. Despite these figures there has sill

Aspects And Effects Of The Space Race
Brooks Brumby Mr. Hubbard November 17, 2017 The Space Race: Aspects and Effects The
Space Race was a competition between the Soviet Union and the United States to see which
nation could achieve spaceflight dominance before the other. The Race began on August 2, 1955
and ended nearly 40 years later in December of 1991. The Space Race began because of two
major factors that would carry it until its end. The Soviet Union s announcement that they were
going to began building and using satellites to use in space days before the United States
planned to announce the same thing helped fuel the fire for the competition. The Cold War also
played a very influential role in the competitiveness between the countries and would inspire
them to be better and work harder than their rival. The general public also played a key role in
the race. Reinforcing your country s involvement in the race gave them the all clear to spend
money to build these space crafts, satellites and other technology in order to not only win, but to
please the people. If a country has the support of its people they can accomplish anything.
Propaganda like posters became a great way of encouraging the people to get involved and stay
involved. Posters depicted great spaceships only seen in movies, engrained a hatred for the
opposing country, the influence the race had on the future, and astronauts as real life superheroes
like Superman. Most importantly the Space Race was a time of great inventions that carry on to

Imperialistic Supremacy Summary
Imperialistic Supremacy revolves around the life of a Southern African male who was victimized
by the imperialism of Europeans throughout the nineteenth century. Protagonist character, Bogani,
was a member of the Zulu tribe and rebelled against European Imperialism along with other tribe
members during his abrupt life. The Zulu were a South African tribe that placed a heavy emphasis
on military organization and skill. Under the leadership of Shaka, founder of the Zulu Kingdom and
a significant person in Bongani s life, the Zulu increased their land claims throughout Southern
Africaby Imperialism.
In 1803, a year before Bongani s birth, Shaka was unfortunately taken away from the Zulu tribe
as a punishment seventeen years ago and was raised by the Mthethwa tribe a tribe that also
sought political and social dominance over Southern Africa similar to Zulu and later joined their
army as a warrior. Shaka quickly earns a reputation of being a ferocious warrior and becomes
very skillful with close combat weapons such as throwing spears and diabolical blunt sticks. By
nature, Shaka is fearless and aggressive, he seeks to create a brand new warrior culture similar to
his personality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sprinkle a pinch of oregano as well. Sprinkle in some cheddar cheese and parmesan cheese to
add more flavor. Mix everything together with your hands and form into one loaf or small
meatloafs (your choice). Place the meatloaf into the oven and cook for 15 20 minutes. During
this time the meat will get nice and brown. Season the remaining tomato sauce with a pinch of
oregano, salt and black pepper. Set aside. Pour the tomato sauce over the meatloaf once the
exterior is brown. This will add more flavor and prevent the meatloaf from drying out. Continue
to cook until the internal temperature reaches a safe 160 degrees F. Remove from the oven.
This meatloaf is just too good. Taking a basic meatloaf and enhancing it with Italian flavors
creates something that is so enjoyable. Rather than using ingredients like breadcrumbs and
brown sugar for some sweetness, tomato sauce, garlic, onions, cheese and oregano gives you all the
flavor you need. Once you take it out of the oven, allow it to cool for a few minutes and then slice
it up! Every bite is going to comfort you and make you feel like you re at home. The best part is,
one meatloaf will yield quite a few meals. Also, it tastes really great cold so make sure you give

The Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction
The age of the planet Earth is estimated to be about four point six billion years old. Life on Earth
is estimated to have started one billion years later. Evolution has taken place since then. Evolving
life from simple forms into more complex forms through the course of time. It all began with single
celled organisms, prokaryotes. Later evolving in a period of two hundred million years,
cyanobacteria began to produce photosynthesis. And life went on, evolving, adapting to its home.
However through this course of time, mass extinctions have taken place on planet Earth. One of the
most recent mass extinctions, has as a matter of fact left various amounts of evidence of the
creatures which roamed the Earth at that time. Such magnificent creatures which varied from a
very small size to giant sizes. Creatures which are now known to humanity as dinosaurs. The
name of this extinction was the Cretaceous Tertiary Mass Extinction. This extinction took place
roughly sixty five million years ago. It has not been too long since this incident compared to the
life span of the Earth. And yet it is still unclear how this extinction occurred. Paleontologists to
this day, debate on how this extinction occurred. A major factor on what caused this extinction to
occur was an impact of an asteroid. Another theory such as sea level regression is considered to
be the blame for the extinction. Sea level regression is the drop of sea levels which aids to explain
the marine mass extinction, however

Women s Suffrage By Elizabeth Cady Stanton
In the late 1800 s women were tired of being put on the back burner. Women were not able to vote,
work certain jobs and some were not able to get a basic education.
There were many political changes arising and women wanted to have a voice and take part of the
process. Women wanted to be considered equal with the same opportunities as men. In the 1840 s
the first women suffrage convention entitled Seneca Falls Convention took place some women
thought that their view were too extreme. .Many women such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B.
Anthony and, Frances Willard created Women Suffrage groups. These women had different ideas of

twelve resolutions received agreement and endorsement, one by one, with a few amendments. The
only resolution that did not pass unanimously was the call for women s authorization. The thought
that women should be allowed to vote in elections was impossible to some. At the convention,
debate over the woman s vote was the main concern. Even though there is still a long way to go we

Literary Analysis Of Randall Jarrell
Almost as important as the content, is the form an author chooses to express their stories. From
poetry to novels, writing form helps shape a reader s experience. The Death of the Ball Turret
Gunner , is the perfect example of how a poem s form reinforces its content. The author, Randall
Jarrell, leaves much to the readers imagination. Jarrell is descriptive and vague at the same time.
This style is no accident and helps convey more to the readers than the surface level of the text.
Making the readers think and question the truth behind any war and telling a story people aren t
used to reading. 1
In class, we ve discussed Kate McLoughlin s ideas for how to write the best war literature. Kate
McLoughlin helped write and edit The Cambridge Companion to War Writing. In her writing,
McLoughlin discusses the difficulties of war literature, and how words can t capture the true
complexity of war. McLoughlin describes war as a massive and complex phenomenon and goes
on to say literature of any type cannot accurately capture war. This is especially true of war on a
global scale that spans years. To solve this problem, McLoughlin suggests that writing less and
leaving certain aspects to the reader s imagination can be beneficial. 2 Randall Jarrell s style
seems in line with McLoughlin s views on how to write proper war literature. This lack of detail is
what made his poem, one of the more compelling readings so far. Leaving the reader to imagine
what the gunner is experiencing

Designing A Curriculum Using The Understanding By Design...
The focal point of this course was to develop a curriculum using the Understanding by Design
framework to assist students in achieving a deeper level of understanding the objectives.
Proposition 3: Teachers motivate, manage, and monitor student learning.
Indicator 3b: Teachers manage the learning environment by engaging students and organizing
instruction.
Indicator 3c: Teachers use multiple methods of for monitoring and measuring student understanding
and make informed decisions about instruction.
After examining the Understanding by Design framework by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, I
have gained knowledge in how to develop a unit by working backwards. The development of a unit
is multi layered in its focus on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. As I construct my plan, I
need to first assess what the big ideas are that I want my students to be familiar with and why it is
important to learn about them. In our study of Mesopotamia, we look at how our world began with
the first civilization and the achievements that led to advances throughout history. The big ideas
framed as understandings that I want my students to know are that the locations of civilizations and
city states, in relation to specific landforms, affect development and technology achievements in a
variety of areas. Then I look at what essential questions are raised and what I want students to know
and be able to do. The framework looks to deepen student understanding and transfer that

What Is The Theme Of Uglies
Imagine living in a world where when you turn sixteen you have to change completely? Scott
Westerfeld s, the author of the book Uglies, purpose of writing the story is to teach us that no
one needs to change in order to feel like they belong. Scott Westerfeld, I wonder how you came up
with the world in which the characters live? I wonder if you were ever made fun of for being ugly?
I wonder if you think our world will become this? As I read Uglies, I focused on the fact that the
group who rebelled realized that they did not needto change to belong.
As I read Uglies, I consider the topic of acceptance because the message the author is trying to
get across is that everyone should just be accepted for who they are. When I read this book, I
see a society that needs to change. The place the characters live in forces them to get a surgery
to change into what society considers attractive . You are called ugly or a pretty and treated
differently based on your looks. In my opinion, this is very wrong. No one should be judged
based on the way they look. Everyone should just be accepted for who they are and not be judged

Reproduction In Brave New World
Reproduction Throughout the course of history, reproduction has been a vital part of all living
organisms. To most living things, reproduction is the only purpose of their existence and if they do
not reproduce, they have not reached their goal in life. Humans are the first animal to break this
rule. In reality, humans live to be successful and happy and this defines their life instead of
reproduction. In the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the author portrays reproduction
as something that is prohibited and something that will only happen in a laboratory. In the story,

It is also stated in the story that viviparous birth is strictly prohibited and should not ever be
performed. Huxley is trying to make a statement that people are slowly neglecting the importance of
reproduction and in the future there will be less of viviparous birth and more artificial birth.
Huxley is also making a statement that technology is changing the way humanity functions. The
intelligence of humanity is backfiring causing people to decline in their awareness in the world.
Technology is so advanced that it is changing how humanity functions. Huxley makes a statement of
where the future of humanity is going if it keeps going do the same path. As stated in the previous
paragraph, all living organisms in existence reproduce. From the smallest single celled organisms to
the largest mammals on Earth, the goal of living things has been to reproduce. Humans have
violated this rule. Reproduction is important and should be kept as a human trait unlike what
Huxley is portraying reproduction to be in the future. Initially, reproduction is what keeps humans
an animal if reproduction was like it was portrayed in the novel, than there is nothing that defines
humans as human. Humanity will no longer have the traits of humanity because

In this sense, the project leader must be technically savvy. Applying a scientific systematic
formula to the project provides for effective and efficient use of resources. Successful projects,
those that deliver value to the organization, use proven Project Life Cycle models such as the
standard ISO model. (Greer, 1999). Following a cookie cutter approach such the ISO standard is
a very scientific management style which requires discipline from the manager. While a rigid
management style may get line items checked off, it can sometimes lead to failure as the end
user may be intimidated by the strict discipline. For instance, City Hospital in the U.K. had a
disastrous IT deployment of an automated system. A post study found that while the contractor
Oracle, had done the proper step of getting end users involved in the analysis, the users supplied
inaccurate data which was used in the development phase and ended up as flaws in the final
product. Various reasons were given for the flawed input such as; hurried users, wrong users and
users embarrassed to admit they didn t understand the system. (Brown, 1998) Following a strict
systematic guideline is sometimes self defeating. That is, leaders and participants can act to avoid
failure but don t for fear of deviating from the plan. (Brown, 1998). It s not just rigid planning that

The United Kingdom s National Health Service Essay
For any successful organization, there should be effective communication, culture, decision

National Health Service is an organization that primarily helps citizens be in charge of their
health care. The group started with the principles that quality healthcare should be available to

with other organizations such as Wal Mart, McDonalds, and U.S Department of Defense. The

aspects of an organization and specifically the NHS. These aspects are organizational
communication, organizational culture, management and leadership as well as organizational
change. The second part of the paper is the background that will provide an organizational

Words And Description In The Poem Digging
Observation and description are said to function as the core elements of today s poetry as poets
are being led away from their role as teachers of morality. Instead, in many modern poems, it is the
description of something mundane that can serve as a trigger for much bigger thoughts yet at the
same time allow the mundane to stay as it is, without any overt value judgment. To make such a
poem work, the choice of words and descriptions is the most important, and as Trotter remarks
regarding a quote by Ted Hughes: Description [...] is a matter of picking out and remembering
significant details: then it is just a matter of presenting those vividly in words (246). That

that challenge is not all that challenging, though, and if the art of blackberry making really were

in 19th century. To understand why the human race has become so much wealthier and why our
wealth is shared so inequitably among the inhabitants of the world, we need to understand what
drives economic growth. What is Economic Growth? An increase in the capacity of an economy
to produce goods and services, compared from one period of time to another. Economic growth
can be measured in nominal terms, which include inflation, or in real terms, which are adjusted
for inflation. For comparing one country s economic growth to another, GDP or GNP per capita
should be used as these take into account population differences between countries. Economic
growths is an increase in what an economy can produce if it is using all its scarce resources. An

Women’s Power to Change in No Name Woman, Maxine Hong...
Throughout the years poverty has played an important role in changing traditions and cultures.
Poverty has changed the role of women and their ways of thinking. In No Name Woman , Maxine
Hong Kingston showed an example of how poverty changed the responsibilities of women in a
small village in China. According to the narrator s mother, the women in this Chinese village,
during the twentieth century, were to get married for one night and then all the men leave to
America, to work there and send money home. The need for money gave women no choice but to
obey. They did not choose whether they want their men to leave them or not. They were not asked
if they wanted to get married or not. Because women could not go through the pain of hunger,...

She did not want her child to turn out and be like her family or the villagers. If the child was a boy,
he might have turned as every other man in the village and if the child was a girl, she might have
had to face the consequences of her mother s problems. No Name Woman killed her child because
she was worried that the child might have to face the same destiny as her She had taken the
child with her into wastes (32). She decided that the best thing for the child is to die with her,
instead of living and facing what the mother could not go through. No Name Woman s fear
affected her decisions and destroyed her life. No Name Woman had a duty towards her family
and child, but unfortunately she ran away from it. No Name Woman was an irresponsible
person, who avoided defending her child and herself. According to the narrator, No Name Woman
was the only child left in her family after all her brothers and her father traveled to America, She
was the only daughter; her four brothers went with her father, husband, and uncles out on the road
and for some years became the western men (27). Since she was the only child left, she a duty
towards her mother. She had to stay by her mother s side, help her, and make sure she had what she
needed, but she ran away without telling her mother anything to comfort her. No Name Woman s
family had the right to know what happened to their daughter. No Name Woman also had

A Brief Look at Polio
INTRODUCTION Polio is a viral infectious disease transmitted via the faecal oral route. It is a
dreaded disease especially in children, it results in infantile paralysis. Polio has no cure causing
great concern due to significant morbidity and mortality. Despite global efforts to eradicate
Polio, it is still endemic in parts of the world. This paper discusses the global problems posed by
the disease, eradication strategies employed globally and regionally and the challenges in the
way of achieving a world without Polio. HISTORYPolio dates to before the 20th century when
first cases of epidemics were clinically reported. In fact, an Egyptian carving which dates back
to around 1400BC depicts a priest with a paralysed leg similar to Polio victims. In the year 1789,
a British doctor, Michael Underwood, described Polio as debility of the lower extremities
(www.polioeradication.org). In 1840, a German doctor, Jacob von Heine established the disease
may be contagious. In 1894, in USA, the first significant Polio outbreak in infants was
documented. In 1907, a Swedish doctor, Ivar Wickman, identified different types of Polio
infection and in 1908; two Austrian physicians Landsteiner and Popper inferred that Polio is a
viral infection. Several years later, research actions were launched and in 1955, the first vaccine
against the disease was created by Dr Jonas Salk.

The Possibilities of Technological Influences on Evolution
Introduction In humanity, as in all of life, the most successful traits in producing offspring will
also become the most prevalent. There is a belief that because we no longer fight for our
survival, we will no longer evolve. Evolution, however, has no goal or foresight. Though we have
seized the need to fight, and have triumphed to the top of the animal food chain, we continue to
change and develop by whatever is most successful for production. This could be beneficial, but
could also have detrimental effects. This paper will discuss these positive and negative
possibilities, as well as how technology could greatly alter our evolutionary path.
The Ideal of the Body
The initial future envisioned by the author was admittedly an ideal one. It s easy to imagine that
without limit to food and shelter that would otherwise inhibit our potential, we may become taller.
History shows that this has long been the trend and humanity could perhaps come to a 6 5
average, or even higher, but at this point much taller mates would likely cease to be attractive as
we would be reaching our peak of structural stability. Humans much taller than this would be over
encumbered by their own density, and have inhibited walking capabilities (Fowler, 2006). Because
of this, the author predicted the possibility of an increasingly uniform height, as both very tall and
shorter members of society are selected against. Large amounts of body hair also tend to be chosen
against and humans would likely

  • 2. Why It Is Important To Greek Art Essay Excuse me, my friends for bringing up this topic at such a busy time, but I feel like this a topic that must be addressed. For many years, Athens was the place for culture. Lycon, you remember those days where you would throw those fantastic parties! Meletus father was a playwright. Look where it brought them. To this assembly. My fellow Athenians, we must support the arts in order to become the center place for Greek culture, and so we do not become idiots like our neighbors, the Spartans. Those in poverty need entertainment. Let s walk through the life of a poor person. First, they get up in the morning, usually very early, and start to head off for their workplace. At their workplace, they toil and toil away until it is time to go home.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Imagine a paved road, going straight across the world until it reaches the end of the earth and falls off. There is only one way to go. A person who follows this way will become a follower, and will not be able to make decisions, and will eventually reach the end of the earth and fall off, his voice never to be heard from again. Now, imagine that the road has many branching pathways, one leading to righteousness, one leading to justice, one leading to a naked man taking a shower. These are all choices that we can make. When a person appreciates music, their mind is opened up so that they can make decisions that are more thought out. Take Crito for example. As a follower of Socrates, and rich man, you must have some musical training. He used his musical training to develop a new way of eating pork skins! Instead of getting his hands dirty with, he used a piece of paper to grab his pork skin and eat it! However, on a serious note, if music is supported, then we will have many people in our assembly who do have different views, and who do think their ideas out before presenting them. That, in turn, will lead to a fairer democracy, for we will have more ideas that are of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Lanthanum Play A Role Within My Everyday Life You might ask yourself, How does lanthanum play a role within my everyday life ? Rare earth elements like lanthanum play an abundant part in our daily lives. In particular, lanthanum is used in many ways such as improving our water supply, technology and health. This paper will define these uses and also elaborate on its history and properties. To begin, the discovery of ceria was made in 1803 by Jons J. Berzelius in 1803 from the mineral cerite. His apprentice, Carl G. Mosander, took this discovery further suggesting that other rare earth metals might exist within ceria. By infusing nitric acid to ceriumnitrate, Mosander, tested his belief. Consequently, some of the cerium nitrates bonded with the acid providing the results that he was looking for. Mosander separated the results using both sodium oxalate and heat, thus, making the first discovery of lanthanumin 1839. Lanthanum was first created in the pure metal form by H. Kremers and R. Stevens in 1923. The element is mined from a variety of ore minerals and deposits in the USA, China, Russia, Australia, and India. (1) The term lanthanum comes from the Greek word lanthano , meaning hidden or concealed. It is grouped on the periodic table with fifteen other rare earth elements being called lanthanides. It has an atomic number of 57 on the elements table and an atomic mass of 138.91g.mol 1. In pure metal form it is silvery white in color. • 4. Example Of Flexible Work Schedules Flexible Work Schedule The beginning of work life started at the break of dawn. Most workers were bound to their work for as long as daylight was available (Chung). During the Industrial Revolution employees worked in factories on an assembly line(Chung). Workers clocked in at the same time, took lunch at the same time, and clocked out at the same time (Chung). They worked as if they were part of the machine (Chung). In modern times employee s work within office buildings similar to assembly line workers they have a fixed schedule and work towards the ultimate goal of the organization (Chung). In modern days corporations are considering the benefits of a flexible work schedule because it can contribute to a successful work life balance by enriching families, improving an employee s health and improving production. Modern technology such as cell phones, tablets, and computers permits a more flexible work schedule because it allows employees to stay connected to the office even if they are miles away (Chung). • 5. The Stresses that Come with Being a Nurse Multiple studies over the past twenty plus years have looked at factors affecting the nurse s workday and the effects it has on them. When an individual first enters a chosen career, he or she is driven. If the work environment is not encouraging of the individual s efforts and concerns, the reality of the job and the individual s prospects begin to deviate and frustration and disappointment happens. (Kerri, 2014) These feelings can bring about job displeasure, resulting in decreased efficiency, loss of confidence and concentration, and behavior changes. If these circumstances are not addressed, stressaccumulates and causes typical stress related symptoms. The definite stressors within the work environment that lead to stress and burnout can be different among occupations and between individuals within an occupation. The starting place of burnout is in the work environment, but because not every individuals working in a certain environment will experience burnout, personal risk factors must have a role in putting the individual at risk for burnout. Therefore, personality is another important factor to be considered. Jennings (2010) found that: Neuroticism has been associated with exhaustion. External locus of control has demonstrated a positive relationship with burnout and stress. Findings are mixed for hardiness. Evaluations of anxiety reflect a link with stress and burnout. A Study On Observation Of Photoluminiscene A study on observation of photoluminiscene in Ruthenium based dye (cis diisothiocyanato bis(2,2 bipyridil 4,4 dicarboxylic acid)ruthenium (II)) Adlina Izny binti Ahmad Advanced Material Laboratory Faculty of Industrial Sciences Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Kuantan, Malaysia Abstract Photoluminescence is light emission that form after the absorption of photons. Dye act as a light absorber. Organic dye is one type of dye, have a small band gap and use as semiconducting material. It will excite the excited electron after absorb light as energy from highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO) to lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO). The energy of photon must be greater than energy of band gap in order to excite electron. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dye always acts as a light absorber. Dye will absorb light to excite the excited electron state from HOMO to LUMO. So absorbed of photons will be happened and dye will fall back from LUMO to HOMO. So emission of photon will be happened. So the wavelength during absorbance and emission process can be identified by using Photoluminescene (PL) spectrometer. By knowing the wavelength we can determine the concentration of dye. Ruthenium dye is one of the organic dye where it contains small band gap, so it only needs small energy to excite the photon from LUMO to HOMO. So if the dye absorb red colour it will reflect blue colour (refer figure 1). Figure 1: a wheel of colour to estimate absorbed light based on colour of dye Objectives 1. Some of the key computing trends driving the need for a new network paradigm include: Changing traffic patterns Within the enterprise data center, traffic patterns have changed significantly. In contrast to client server applications where the bulk of the communication occurs between one client and one server, today s applications access different databases and servers, creating a flurry of east west machine to machine traffic before returning data to the end user device in the classic north south traffic pattern. Residents are able to grow foods all year long due to the heat conserving design which can store heat for up to six months that warms the house and allows food to grow. The house also avoids using pesticides through integrated pest management! Plant clippings were thrown into an algae tank which feeds fish that are then sold or eaten. The algae tank also helped with heating the house, as algae is really good at absorbing and radiating heat. • 24. The Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction The age of the planet Earth is estimated to be about four point six billion years old. Life on Earth is estimated to have started one billion years later. Evolution has taken place since then. Evolving life from simple forms into more complex forms through the course of time. It all began with single celled organisms, prokaryotes. Later evolving in a period of two hundred million years, cyanobacteria began to produce photosynthesis. And life went on, evolving, adapting to its home. However through this course of time, mass extinctions have taken place on planet Earth. One of the most recent mass extinctions, has as a matter of fact left various amounts of evidence of the creatures which roamed the Earth at that time. Such magnificent creatures which varied from a very small size to giant sizes. Creatures which are now known to humanity as dinosaurs. The name of this extinction was the Cretaceous Tertiary Mass Extinction. This extinction took place roughly sixty five million years ago. It has not been too long since this incident compared to the life span of the Earth. And yet it is still unclear how this extinction occurred. Paleontologists to this day, debate on how this extinction occurred. A major factor on what caused this extinction to occur was an impact of an asteroid. Another theory such as sea level regression is considered to be the blame for the extinction. • 26. Literary Analysis Of Randall Jarrell Almost as important as the content, is the form an author chooses to express their stories. From poetry to novels, writing form helps shape a reader s experience. The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner , is the perfect example of how a poem s form reinforces its content. The author, Randall Jarrell, leaves much to the readers imagination. Jarrell is descriptive and vague at the same time. This style is no accident and helps convey more to the readers than the surface level of the text. Making the readers think and question the truth behind any war and telling a story people aren t used to reading. 1 In class, we ve discussed Kate McLoughlin s ideas for how to write the best war literature. Kate McLoughlin helped write and edit The Cambridge Companion to War Writing. In her writing, McLoughlin discusses the difficulties of war literature, and how words can t capture the true complexity of war. McLoughlin describes war as a massive and complex phenomenon and goes on to say literature of any type cannot accurately capture war. This is especially true of war on a global scale that spans years. To solve this problem, McLoughlin suggests that writing less and leaving certain aspects to the reader s imagination can be beneficial. 2 Randall Jarrell s style seems in line with McLoughlin s views on how to write proper war literature. This lack of detail is what made his poem, one of the more compelling readings so far. Leaving the reader to imagine what the gunner is experiencing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The focal point of this course was to develop a curriculum using the Understanding by Design framework to assist students in achieving a deeper level of understanding the objectives. Proposition 3: Teachers motivate, manage, and monitor student learning. Indicator 3b: Teachers manage the learning environment by engaging students and organizing instruction. Indicator 3c: Teachers use multiple methods of for monitoring and measuring student understanding and make informed decisions about instruction. After examining the Understanding by Design framework by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, I have gained knowledge in how to develop a unit by working backwards. The development of a unit is multi layered in its focus on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. As I construct my plan, I need to first assess what the big ideas are that I want my students to be familiar with and why it is important to learn about them. In our study of Mesopotamia, we look at how our world began with the first civilization and the achievements that led to advances throughout history. The big ideas framed as understandings that I want my students to know are that the locations of civilizations and city states, in relation to specific landforms, affect development and technology achievements in a variety of areas. Then I look at what essential questions are raised and what I want students to know and be able to do. The framework looks to deepen student understanding and transfer that understanding ... Scott Westerfeld s, the author of the book Uglies, purpose of writing the story is to teach us that no one needs to change in order to feel like they belong. Scott Westerfeld, I wonder how you came up with the world in which the characters live? I wonder if you were ever made fun of for being ugly? I wonder if you think our world will become this? As I read Uglies, I focused on the fact that the group who rebelled realized that they did not needto change to belong. As I read Uglies, I consider the topic of acceptance because the message the author is trying to get across is that everyone should just be accepted for who they are. When I read this book, I see a society that needs to change. The place the characters live in forces them to get a surgery to change into what society considers attractive . You are called ugly or a pretty and treated differently based on your looks. In my opinion, this is very wrong. No one should be judged based on the way they look. Following a cookie cutter approach such the ISO standard is a very scientific management style which requires discipline from the manager. There is a belief that because we no longer fight for our survival, we will no longer evolve. Evolution, however, has no goal or foresight. Though we have seized the need to fight, and have triumphed to the top of the animal food chain, we continue to change and develop by whatever is most successful for production. This could be beneficial, but could also have detrimental effects. This paper will discuss these positive and negative possibilities, as well as how technology could greatly alter our evolutionary path. The Ideal of the Body The initial future envisioned by the author was admittedly an ideal one. It s easy to imagine that without limit to food and shelter that would otherwise inhibit our potential, we may become taller. History shows that this has long been the trend and humanity could perhaps come to a 6 5 average, or even higher, but at this point much taller mates would likely cease to be attractive as we would be reaching our peak of structural stability. Humans much taller than this would be over encumbered by their own density, and have inhibited walking capabilities (Fowler, 2006). Because of this, the author predicted the possibility of an increasingly uniform height, as both very tall and shorter members of society are selected against.
