Throughout the novel My Antonia by Willa Cather, Jim Burden has a tendency to be very
critical of his friend Antonia. He expects her to be a strong, independent woman that will not be
swayed by anyone that tries to interfere with her plans. Yet as they get older, they soon go into
different directions. When Jim prepares to leave for college, he learns that Antonia is
unmarried and has a two year old baby back at the farm. Jim becomes instantly disappointed in
Antonia, as if he was her father looking down on her. Even though they are just friends, and Jim
is younger than Antonia, it comes to question why Jim is so critical of Antonia. Where his
disappoint is very prominent is after hearing news of her baby Jim thinks to himself; I tried to
shut Antonia out of my mind... but she keep her head for her business and had got on in the

Achievement is something that some people silently compete for, to be better than everyone
else. But, other people strive for achievement like myself, they do not worry about others and try
to be best they can be, for themselves. There are multiple types of achievement, grades and
school only impact certain people, some people have different ideas of achievement and think

Captivity narratives began with the settlement of North America and continued as a significant
genre in American literature until the end of the nineteenth century. The first captivity narratives
are believed to have been created by Native Americans who were captured by early Spanish
explorers. However, the genre commonly refers to the accounts written by European settlers who
were abducted by Native Americans. European settlers were fleeing to the new land in order to
escape religious persecutions, in order for that to happen, they had to take the land from the Native
Americans which later progressed to kidnapping and captivity of some early settlers.
Both authors clearly establish a sudden attack in the beginning of the narratives. Later during their
time in captivity, both authors make it clear that they are forced to change locations due to a
forced march by the Indians that took them captive. Examples of sale or trade are evident in each
narrative. One key example is when Mary Rowlandson states she was sold to King Philip s wife s
sister by a Narragansett Indian in her narrative The Sovereignty and Goodness of God .(132)

It was simply a war that did not need to be fought. But in order to combat the ever prevailing
communist forces; the capitalists and in particular, America, decided that Vietnam would be the
land where these differences would be disputed. Men were sent in to fight in this war and they
came back with very different experiences. As seen in both perspectives held in A Rumor of War
by Philip Caputo and in We were soldiersonce... and young by Hal Moore and Joseph Galloway;
they explore the varying perspectives and experienced seen and learnt within war. Whereas in A

The mean age of the subjects was 32 years and 7 months and they were equally divided among
the upper two social classes. The goal of this research was to examine the past and present eating
habits of female alcoholics to determine whether or not a correlation between the two disorders
existed. Two methods of research were used to evaluate the subjects: an interview and a
questionnaire. One of the authors interviewed each subject individually. The interview consisted
of two parts: (1) a detailed assessment of past and present eating behaviors and (2) an evaluation
of drinking patterns. The first part of the interview based eating disorders on a variety of patterns,
including binge eating behaviors that lasted for at least 6 months. The second part of the interview
used a pre determined interview created by Stockwell et al. to determine levels of alcohol

in the Sun as she effectuated her role as the superior head of the Younger family. In order to truly
decipher what the author wishes to share through the eyes of this character, it is important to take a
thorough and insightful analysis of her. By closely evaluating her role in the family, what she
wants, her personality, and, even what inanimate object she can be compared to, the reader will see
what the author, Lorraine Hansberry, had in mind as she matured this character. Mama s role in the

In this formal analysis, the subject is the wall painting Queen Nefertari and Isis, located in
Nefertaris tomb. The painting shows the ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis leading the Queen by the
hand. Nefertari lived around 1300 1255 BC and was the first and exclusively claimed wife of the
Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II.
