Summary Of The Urban Legend Of Fairfax County
During the summer of 2011, I went to visit my cousins that lived in Fairfax County. One night
there was a tornado warning, and the strong winds and rain had cut off all the power to the
house. All we had to that night was tell stories, and one tale brought up was about the county we
were in. While the urban legend intrigued me, you could easily identify the overarching message
of the tale which was to be cautious at night. According to the legend, in 1904 an insane asylum
was being shut down per request from residents of Fairfax County. During the transfer there was
an accident allowing the inmates to escape into a forest. While some were detained, others were
killed because of their hostility. Police officers were able to find all but two people, Marcus and
Douglas that were still missing. Local police officers followed a trail of dead rabbits in the forest
that lead them to a bridge. Hanging from the bridge was Marcus with a note attached to his foot
that read: you ll never find the bunny man .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s about a very troubled man that attacking innocent people. The urban legend first began to
gain traction in the 1970s. What it tells us about the time in which it originated is how mental
health was perceived. Upon hearing the story, I was frightened which is what it aimed to do. The
story was created to scare us, but why does it also evoke fear of those with mental illness as well?
The legend associates those institutionalized in an asylum as being murderers, when in reality they
re mutually exclusive. Being institutionalized doesn t mean you re killer. The transfer of inmates in
the urban legend only occurred per request of the residents of Fairfax. They didn t want an asylum
in their county, because of how they perceived the patients as being a threat to their safety. The
story only goes on to confirm that it the right decision to move people in the insane asylum, because
they turned out to be

Weather The Migration Hypothesis
The reading and the lecture discuss weather the migration hypothesis is true for the edomontosaurs
the elephant like dinosaurs to prove the North Slope as their habitat. The lecturer puts forth three
aspects, each of which has casts doubt on the three points presented in the reading passage. To begin
with, the professor avers that at the time of the edomontosaurs the temperature in the North slopes
was warmer than ours. She says that the warmer temperature helps to have good vegetation in
summer. Even the dead plants were enough to feed the edomontosaurs in the North slopes during
winter. Thus the edomontosaurs did not need to migrate to south the warm place. This directly
challenges the reading assertion that the food requirement for the

In The Heart Of The Sea Summary
The book I read was called In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick. This book tells the
story of brave men on a whaling ship called the Essex who were lost at sea. It tells about how
starvation, dehydration, and how psychologically the human brain breaks down. This story is
told from the third person view explaining the lives of the men and the troubles they went
through. This story is about 20 men who were lost at sea after their boat was destroyed by a feral
whale. Many of these men were nantucketers, spartans of the sea, but instead of killing men they
killed whales. Nantucketers were bred for hunting whales; it s almost a religion for the people of
Nantucket Island. It is ironic that the Nantucketers have such a blood lust for... Show more content

Examples Of Just War Utilitarianism
Just war theory includes the justification of the how and why that wars are fought. The justification
of war can be either viewed from a theoretical or historical perspective. The theoretical aspect
regards justifying war in an ethical manner and the specific forms that combat may or may not
involve. The historical aspect, or the just wartradition, deals with the rules or agreements that have
been applied to wars throughout time. Ethics examine institutional agreements for their
philosophical coherence as well as to inquire about whether aspects of the conventions should be
altered. The just war tradition may also consider the thoughts of various philosophers and lawyers
throughout time and to examine both their philosophical visions of war s ethical limits (or absence...

This can be applied to the just war theory. For the utilitarian approach, the end justifies the
means. Therefore, a nation would not need a just war cause other than having the right
intentions and making sure that the war would produce the greatest good for the greatest
number of individuals. The notion of jus in bello is to make sure that less evil will come about
if the war is fought. For example, when looking at New York City s 9/11 bombings, a utilitarian
would say that this was wrong : it was a selfish approach that did not end in the greatest good for
the greatest number; a utilitarian would not go against a threat made by a country or world
leader if the outcome would be the best for the entire world and would make it a better place
than it was before. The other approach: people are going to war without a just cause other than for
just good intentions. This would make the world a volatile, shaky unstable place. Overall, the
utilitarian and the jus in bello advocate would agree with the just war theory that war might be
necessary to make the world a better place as long as the war is justified through just

A Business Perspective Of Management Discipline
1. From a business perspective why is management discipline important? Compare and contrast the
management discipline to medicine and law (how are these similar and how are they different be
specific in your explanations and provide examples to support your response).
From a business perspective management discipline is as important as the next key factor to
company success because it, ...drives the field forward (Magretta, 9). Having discipline can help to

This can affect many people, but typically the decision is the right one for the company and its
people. Medical people and people working in law have much less time and resources to make
decisions. This can ultimately affect decision makers. But thankfully, managers, medical personnel,
and law enforcement officers are all trained, regardless of time, or resources on how to effectively
and successfully make tough decisions for the betterment of situations, people, and other factors
related to the respective fields.
2. What is the goal of the Magretta book, What Management Is? Support your response with
specific page numbers from your readings in APA style.
Most books can be broken down into one or several main goals. This book, What Management is?
Is no different. The foremost goal of this book is to present a coherent view of the whole, of the
work known as general management (Magretta, 9). Furthermore, the goal includes the attempt to
deliver a concise synthesis of important ideas and practices. For instance, value creation, business
models, competitive strategies, performance metrics and more (Magretta, 9). In simple terms this
book aims to directly allow readers to easily and purposefully understand the main theory of
management and why it is important to not just employees and business, but to the entire
globe. What Management is? Looks at the world of management as more of real world approach,

Hydraulic Fracture Case Study
In grid based models, the fracture is propagated through a fixed grid. This idea was used in early
2D hydraulic fracture simulators (Settari 1980) where when the stress normal to the fracture plane
exceeded the tensile strength, the fracture extended into a new grid cell. Therefore, grid based
models were suitable for coupling with reservoir simulators and geomechanics codes (Ji, Settari,
and Sullivan 2009). 3D grid based models were extended to deal with multiple fractures, for
example, the MultiFrac Placement Pseudo 3D (MLF P3D) model (Dontsov and Peirce 2015).

2015). The Unconventional Fracture Model (UFM), developed by Cipolla et al. (2010), considers
the effect of natural fractures, stress distribution, and influence of the mechanical properties of
fracture morphology (Cipolla et al. 2010). The UFM model can simulate the propagation of
asymmetric fracture networks accounting for fluid flow in the fracture network and elastic
deformation of the fractures. The initial assumptions and governing equations (fluid flow in the
fracture network, mass conservation and fracture deformation) are similar to the conventional P3D
model (Weng 2015).
Passey et al. (2010) claimed that there is a large variability in lithology between shale plays and
even within a single shale formation (Passey et al. 2010). Britt and Smith (2009) emphasized the
importance of geomechanics and the state of stress of a shale play for a successful hydraulic
fracturing stimulation (Britt and Smith 2009). In addition, Rickman et al. (2008) stressed that the
mechanical rock properties, such as brittleness and mineralogy, are fundamental in completion
designs. While ductile shale tend to restore any fracture formed, brittle shale often have natural
fractures which react to hydraulic fracturing (Rickman et al. 2008). In general, the Young s
Modulus of the shale measured parallel to the bedding plane is greater than that measured
perpendicular to the bedding plane. Sone and Zoback (2013) explained the role of anisotropy on the

Being A Sixth Grade Mean Girl
On Being a Sixth Grade Mean Girl Squeals pierce my eardrums as little girls talk about loving
their boyfriends. The overbearing scent of Axe radiates off of every arrogant schoolboy who

into its inescapable vice. Such was Memorial Middle School when I first debuted in August,
2011. Going into sixth grade, I was the most popular girl in school. Although I may have had
ebony hair and bubblegum lips, there was no hiding the ugliness of who I was: the meanest girl

I loved to read, so I was a nerd; I used words they couldn t understand, so I was a freak. Soon

that I would be transferring schools, I saw redemption. That summer, I exchanged novels for
magazines; I went on extreme diets to lose weight as if cutting pounds could cut the memories of
abuse from my head. Going into fifth grade, I found myself googling How to be Normal in an
attempt to abandon my identity; fifteen pounds and a miniskirt later, I had all but done so. By
maintaining a facade of normalcy , I became instantly popular, and I gained influence that I had
never thought possible. Girls looked to me for advice on everything from boys to hairstyles, and
I reveled in my superiority . Thus, when sixth grade arrived, I was a bully; I became the people
who had tormented me. I was deliberately vicious, ridiculing anyone who didn t fit the impossible
standard I used to hide my insecurities. I slashed people down and used their broken pieces to
repair myself. The girl I had been seemed permanently lost to the monster I had become until Julia.
Julia was everything I secretly longed to be: beautiful, brilliant, and unapologetically
compassionate. She was my first friend in Mentor, but I rapidly abandoned her upon realizing that
she was unpopular . That is where our contact ended; simply ignoring her meant that no harm came

Exploration For A New Route
In one such exploration for a new route to Asia, the VOC in 1609 employed Henry Hudson, an
Englishman, to locate the legendary Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans.
The VOC had hoped that it would provide a safer and quicker route instead of having to pass
through the Cape of Good Hope or going around the tip of South of America. While Hudson
never did discover the supposed Northwest Passage, he did explore a vast area of modern day
northern US and Canada. These explorations gained the VOC a foothold in North America as they
established trading posts in 1614 at Manhattan and Albany; however these posts were only half
heartedly promoted. Nonetheless, the VOC participated in the slave trade by establishing a route...

The overall part that the Dutch played in the Atlantic slave trade was never much more than 5 7
per cent, which is estimated to be about 550,000 slaves. The economic aspects of the Transatlantic
slave trade were relatively meagre as far as the Dutch were concerned; therefore asking the question
of rather or not it was worth the bother. While the Dutch West India Companytook part in the
typically less profitable aspects of Dutch Trade, the VOC was turning enormous profits all
across the East Indies and Asia. The VOC were the only Europeans allowed to conduct trade with
Japan throughout their isolation during the Edo period (1603 1868). The VOC were only
permitted to trade at the designated port, Dejima, on the island of Nagasaki and there were only
ever a select few allowed to come temporary onto the mainland. One of the reasons why the
Japanese permitted trade with the Dutch was because the Dutch were only interested in the
acquiring of Japanese silver and copper, not incorporating Dutch ideologies and culture onto Japan.
Furthermore, William Adams, who worked for the Dutch, had travelled to Japan before the start of
their isolation and became an advisor to Ieyasu, the head of the Japanese government. Due to these
two reasons when Japan closed its borders off to the outside world, the Dutch were one of the three
countries, Korea and China being the other two, the Japanese were permitted to trade with. The

Sierra Leone Imperialism
Sierra Leone is one of the many countries that are on the coast of West Africa. A rich country fell
victim to barbaric people. Sierra Leone was named but not founded, by Portuguese sailor, Pedro
de Sintra. Sierra Leone was colonized by Great Britain in 1807 in Freetown, Sierra Leone. This
was the start of their rule over West Africa. Great Britain brainwashed, rapped, and robbed Sierra
Leone.
Sierra Leone was robbed of their people by Great Britain, Portuguese, French, and Dutch before
they was officially colonized. Portuguese traders arrived at the harbor. By 1495 they had built a
trading post. Aaron Belisarius Cosmo Sibthorpe says in, The History of Sierra Leone, The Dutch

Analyzing The Painting Baptism Of Pocahontas
The painting, Baptism of Pocahontas was commissioned in 1837. John Gadsby Chapman installed
the painting in November of 1840. This painting was created during a time when the United States
was forcefully expanding westward and had implemented a policy to remove the Indian tribes off
their lands. One example of incorporating religious content and context includes Chapman s focus
on the religious ceremony of baptism. This inclusion illustrates the belief among white Americans
of this period that Native Americans could be integrated into the white civilization. Pocahontas
choosing to receive baptism exemplified the promises of this assimilation. Although the painting
depicts Pocahontas noble acceptance of English religion and culture,

limited, but the risks of damage are increased and can be costly to repair, whereas the standalone

Most desktops offer a better price to performance ratio (Kb.wisc.edu, 2014), they are also the
most versatile in terms of upgrading. Although it is possible in many cases to replace the RAM
and hard drive in a laptop, a desktop allows for all the main components of a computer

Bad Debt
3) DISTINCTION BETWEEN BAD DEBT AND PROVISION FOR DOUBTFUL DEBT
Sales consist of cash and credit sales but sales on credit hold a large proportion in many
businesses. Therefore, the business is facing the problem of bad debt which will occurs when
debtors fail to settle their payment for items sold on credit. A bad debtis an amount that is written
off by the business as a loss to the business and classified as an expense because the debt owed to
the business is unable to be collected, and all reasonable efforts have been exhausted to collect the
amount owed. (Wizznotes) This situation will occurs when the debtor has declared bankruptcy.

An entity may not be able to its balances outstanding in respect of certain receivables. (Accounting
Simplified.com). Those receivables refer as Irrecoverable Debts or Bad Debts in accountancy. For

THE EFFECTS IF A COMPANY DOES NOT ESTIMATE ALLOWANCE FOR DOUBTFUL
DEBT.
Accounting is generally intended to show a correlation between all financial aspects of business
transactions. (Neil Kokemuller). It runs the risk of counting money earned but not collected when
company records revenue from sales paid for with credit. The likelihood of this risk is adjusted by
the bad debt allowance. Misalignment between revenues earned in one period and the unpaid debt
that result later on would happen due to the failure to use bad debt allowance. Significant cuts to
revenue in later period would happen in the company.
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MATCHING CONCEPT AND THE NEED TO ESTIMATE

Estimation of the amount of bad debt is typically based on historical experience, debit the bad debt

examines treatments that either probably produce harm in some individuals or possibly produce
harm in some individuals. Harm can caused in various ways, including worse or more symptoms

author notes that as mental health professionals, it is critical for patients wellbeing that the field

I found this to link well with the article, specifically when the article discusses client variables and
ways that individual differences can change the effectiveness or harm that a specific treatment
brings about. As different countries look at which treatments are helpful or harmful for patients in
that area, it would be interesting to see the differences that individuals have, and whether that
causes a treatment to be helpful in the treatment of a certain disorder in one country, while actually
causing harm to people with the same disorder in other parts of the world. It is crucial for
psychologists to remember that cultural differences can have large and sprawling effects, and that
this can change how patients will react to a given treatment. It is encouraging that many countries
have already adopted guidelines to determine which treatments can and cannot be administered, and
it is also reassuring that each country looks at the treatments separately. This is helping to ensure
that clients in all areas of the world have the best care possible, while taking into account individual

Throughout the novel My Antonia by Willa Cather, Jim Burden has a tendency to be very

Antonia, as if he was her father looking down on her. Even though they are just friends, and Jim
is younger than Antonia, it comes to question why Jim is so critical of Antonia. Where his
disappoint is very prominent is after hearing news of her baby Jim thinks to himself; I tried to

The Importance Of Achievement
Achievement is something that some people silently compete for, to be better than everyone
else. But, other people strive for achievement like myself, they do not worry about others and try
to be best they can be, for themselves. There are multiple types of achievement, grades and
school only impact certain people, some people have different ideas of achievement and think
they do not need schooling to succeed and learn from just everyday life. There are over
achievers, and then there are people who just do what they need to, to pass a class. I feel that
grades do not impact everyone s achievements because some people do not worry about school
and focus more on life achievements. My entire life I have not worried about grades up until I
saw my brother struggling with long division around age 17, trying to get into the Army. My
brother usually had all D and F s for grades; our childhood was not the best. I do not blame him for
his lack of motivationand urge to do better because no one tried to motivate him, and simply gave

The Celebration Of The Concert
I gotta tell you something, alright? It s a little motto to live by. It basically goes like this: There
s going to be times in your life when people say you can t do something, and there s going to be
times in your life when people say you can t live your dreams, and there s going to be times
when people say you can t sell out Madison Square Garden. This is what I tell them: NEVER
SAY NEVER Justin Bieber.... That is exactly what popped into my head when Lupita calls me
and I find out the Purpose tour tickets were going on sale. We call Karla and start saying that we
have to go to this concert. We start begging for the tickets but all our parents end up saying no.

that I m going to be breathing the same air as him just blows me away. They pick me up, and on
our way there Karla and I just jam out to, Justin Bieber. When we arrive there s already fans
outside 4 hours before the concert even starts, that just means they re die hard fans like us. As soon
as we get out, the 90Вє air hits me and I m starting to wonder when we ll start sizzling? We wait
outside and it s so hot but were first in line to get in the arena, everyone was dehydrated and they
wouldn t even open the doors like a few minutes before the doors actually open, one girl even
fainted.. When they finally opened and we went inside it was so cold it gave me the chills. But
we still had to wait 1 hour before the concert even started. So we found our seats in the meantime
and tried to get something to eat. Lupita finally arrives and so we just talk for the remaining time.

Electronic Progression Of Social Media
Social media is the product of innovation and electronic progression: Social media are webpages

Since the beginning of time, humans have had the instinctual desire to communicate with one

Cecilia is without any doubt one of the main characters of Atonement written by Ian McEwan.
He is able to show the reader her passionate, pensive and passive state through her behaviour and
attitude in various scenes. Her character is not as deep as Briony s or Robbie s as the reader
does not get many chapters in which one can hear her thoughts and feelings. Nevertheless Cecilia
s actions say a lot about her; how she took of her her clothes to get to vase manifests her
stubborness and well. More over her character is further developed through her interactions with
Robbie from the letters she sends him. The reader feels that Cecilia is idle at the start of the novel.

the incident of the vase occurs, she does not acknowledge that it is their attraction which makes
them nervous, so she links it to class difference again. Her undressing near the fountain and
plunging in the fountain suggests that Cecilia views herself as one of the Furies or Erinyes, the
merciless Goddesses of vengeance in Greek and Roman mythology. She thinks that if the

reader of Cecilia s over dramatisation. Cecilia s thought about how she cannot smoke in her
father s presence and how she disobeys this rule makes the reader think that she believes that
since she went to University and spent three years amongst the most sophistacated, she is now
indipendent. The lector witnesses Cecilia s preparations in the dressing for dinner. She is

she wants to impress someone, maybe Robbie. This idea commences when Cecilia goes infront of

Throughout mankind existence, civilization has brought many changes that have affected lives. For
some, these changes have brought better condition of living, for others disparities. With the

creating a monopoly in order to have absolute control, making it almost impossible for competition
to survive. As consumers begin to suffer government were forced to create policies in order to
address this alarming behavior. By the 1890 s U.S gorvernment has introduced legislation of the

The Effects Of The Watergate Scandal Of 1972
Some events in history have the power to linger over a nation and affect the world for years, the
Watergate Scandal of 1972 is one of them. The events that occurred on the morning of June 17,
1972 would have effects on American life and politics for years to come and ultimately lead to the
downfall of President Richard Nixon. The Watergate Scandalhas proven to have had monumental
effects on the political culture of America. Although Nixon eventually resigned on August 9, 1974,
the national nightmare was not nearly over. Ever since the diminishment of Nixon s presidency:
politics have irrevocably lost its innocence, Americans have lost faith and trust in the government,
and media has become more aggressive with the evolution of journalism. The so called third rate
burglary attempt transpired on the morning of June 17, 1972. At this time Republican President
Richard M. Nixon was running for reelection and the United States was embroiled in the Vietnam
War. On that memorable day, five men broke into the Democratic National Committee headquarters
in the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C.. Consequently, those men were arrested for trying to
bug and steal documents. Optimistic voters believed there was no link between the president and
the burglars and Nixon was reelected. Initial investigations were heavily influenced by the media,
particularly through the works of Washington Post reporters Bob Woodwardand Carl Bernstein and
their mysterious source Deep Throat .

Home Schooling Education is a very important concern in the hearts of Americans. . But what
exactly is the best form of education. Homeschooling has gradually made its way into the education
field as an acceptable and controversial form of education. Homeschooling can simply be defined as
educating children at home or the community rather than at school (Withrow, 1999; Cromwell,
1998; Lines, 1995). An alternative definition would be, parents choosingthe schooling for their
children (What is Homeschooling, 2000). Home schooling started thirty years ago because of two

Reasons for Homeschooling
Although there are various reasons why families may decide to homeschool their children, most
decisions are based on one or both of these issues: personal beliefs and problems with the public
school.
Personal Beliefs
Parents feel that homeschooling is a way to meet the child s specific needs and interests while
challenging them. They also believe that a home education allows children to participate in many
activities that school bound children are not able to participate in. Homeschoolers are able to
pursue interests without time and restraints placed on them by the school. Some of the activities
where homeschoolers may interact with are organizations such as, church, clubs, and scouting.
Most parents of homeschoolers contend that they are the only ones responsible for their children s
education, and that they should be making the decisions about what values their children are
learning and not the public schools. Most homeschooling families can agree that schools separate
education and the home which makes homeschooling the only logical alternative because as Fritz
Hinrich says, Homeschooling is bringing education back into children s daily culture because it
makes education a familial pursuit.

My Experience With Writing Arguments
I am unaware of any writing arguments. The only thing I can really think of is writing a

researching for weeks in the library, looking through magazine after magazine. I had searched for
enough information to write a ten page paper. The writing process of the paper took several

that course such as that you need to search for all the information you can because it is better to
have too much information than not enough. Also that course taught me many things about making
references to the authors of the articles I used for my paper. I remember writing out note card

course taught me to become a better writer and to respect how much detail really goes into a
research paper like I had written. Other than that, I have not really had much experience in

Captivity Of North America And Continued As A Significant...
Captivity narratives began with the settlement of North America and continued as a significant
genre in American literature until the end of the nineteenth century. The first captivity narratives
are believed to have been created by Native Americans who were captured by early Spanish
explorers. However, the genre commonly refers to the accounts written by European settlers who
were abducted by Native Americans. European settlers were fleeing to the new land in order to
escape religious persecutions, in order for that to happen, they had to take the land from the Native
Americans which later progressed to kidnapping and captivity of some early settlers.
Both authors clearly establish a sudden attack in the beginning of the narratives. Later during their
time in captivity, both authors make it clear that they are forced to change locations due to a
forced march by the Indians that took them captive. Examples of sale or trade are evident in each
narrative. One key example is when Mary Rowlandson states she was sold to King Philip s wife s
sister by a Narragansett Indian in her narrative The Sovereignty and Goodness of God .(132)
Finally these two narratives are completely different in the last key point in the captivity narrative
outline , the ransom or escape.
Ethnography is a hidden trait found in early American Literature captivity narratives. Ethnography
has been perceived as a discursive bridge between different cultures, and captivity narratives settings

A Rumor Of War By Philip Caputo And Young
The Vietnam War was largely considered a failure, a waste of resources, time and precious lives.
It was simply a war that did not need to be fought. But in order to combat the ever prevailing
communist forces; the capitalists and in particular, America, decided that Vietnam would be the
land where these differences would be disputed. Men were sent in to fight in this war and they
came back with very different experiences. As seen in both perspectives held in A Rumor of War
by Philip Caputo and in We were soldiersonce... and young by Hal Moore and Joseph Galloway;
they explore the varying perspectives and experienced seen and learnt within war. Whereas in A
Rumor of War , it tackles the consequences of being sent into such harsh warfare, only because
Philip Caputo saw the harsh reality firsthand as he was a soldier in the war. The former, We
were soldiers once... and young tackles the glorification of war because it s not solely a soldier s
account. A journalist was in company of these men and as such details get skewed for the public s
perception. Regardless, both these books share a telling tale of the war in Vietnam through their
radically different views.
Firstly, it is important to establish the historical contexts of these two books. A Rumor of War
was published in 1977, two years after the end of the Vietnam War. It was written by a soldier
who served in the war. The period this describes is immediately the post war era and the fallout
faced by soldiers

Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild and Tim O’Brien’s How
to Tell...
People try to understand the world through perception of experiences that they encounter. These
encounters include either living through the experience first hand or the experience being
conveyed by another person. Our perception weeds out main ideas from those experiences deeming
them realistic and if so labels them truths. However, our perception of the obtained truthfrom those
experiences is not always credible because as a recipient we are restricted to the amount of
experience we can retain. Meaning the perceptions of the labeled truths is a result of our translation
of incomplete experiences into new perception resulting from what he or she could retain from the
original experience. Those incomplete experiences give rise to new... Show more content on

Due our limitations as recipients, which cause truth to vary among us, discovering truth becomes
impossible because of its constant changes.
When we encounter experiences through person to person, alterations occur at times on purpose
by the conveyor on the experience so the translation by the recipient can result in the closest
experience to the experience retained by the conveyor. These changes highlight the retained ideas
in the experience, allowing it to remain a truth, O Brien explains, when you go to tell about it,
there is always that surreal seemingness, which makes the story untrue, but which in fact
represents the hard and exact truth as it seemed (O Brien 442). As a recipient of an experience
one is bound by only the translation of the experience one can retain, so when the conveyor tells
his or her experience/story. The conveyor emphasizes the experience retained causing the
alterations in the experience but this allows the recipient to translate a truth similar to the
conveyor. Those translations are also seen in Krakauer s writings, where Krakauer show

Informative Essay On Slapstick
Now of days there are many different types of humor that make people laugh around the world.
They can range from a common conventional joke to any type of irony. Although I believe
physical humor or slapstick is the most hilarious to me. I think slapstick humor is the best because
it s used the most, can be used in other parts of humor, and has been around for ages. First let s talk
about, what is physical humor and where does the term slapstick come from. So most people
know what slapstick is when it comes to physical humor, but many do not know where the word
came from. The word slapstick came from the Italian word batacchio or batacchio. Slapstick is also
a descendent of the comic routines of Italian Commedia Dell arte touring players,... Show more

For instance conventional jokes can include physical comedy. Famous comedian Kevin Hart for
example does this in most of his standup acts. During his act when he was talking about his first
time cursing he included physical humor twice. First when he got an attitude with his mom and
said how she slapped him, he slapped himself to give effect to what he was saying. The second
was when his mom gave him permission to curse at school but he took it to fare. So as Kevin
Hart state I got an ass whooping and my mom beat the shit out of me. Now some people might
not find this funny that a mother is beating her child. Although the crowd that night did, this is a
well known Kevin Hart piece. To continue physical humor can also be mixed in with irony. Now
irony is an event that seems purposely different to what one expects and is often amusing as a
result. A normal example of irony would be for instance a dog playing a piano like in the
Muppets, or a tow truck towing another tow truck. An example of irony with physical humor
would when someone is walking and steps on a banana pill. You would think they would just keep
walking, but instead they slip and fall on the banana. These examples with the irony and
conventional jokes show that physical humor can be implied with other types of

The Hero Myth of the Matrix Essay
The Hero Myth of the Matrix According to Linda Seger all myths, in all cultures are much the
same. In these myths it is just the time, place and setting that changes. This is why Hollywood is
so successful at making good movies, because they base it off these myths. The most popular myth
is that of the hero, because for most of us this is what we want to be. With this myth we can live
that experience through these characters. In the creation of a hero there are ten stages, using the
Matrixas an example we will look at these ten stages. Like in Linda Seger s essay, the first stage of
the hero is he/she is presented to the viewers in normal surroundings doing normal things. In the

or get out of the car. At first, Neo chooses to leave, but Trinity calls upon him to stay and trust her.
This was Neo s calling, and the introduction to his next step.
Seger writes, that the forth stage is when the hero meets his helper or helpers. Because of the help,
they offer the hero will be able to complete his/her journey or adventure. The helper could be
anybody from a small child to a guardian angle. This helper usually give the hero something that
will help him/her to complete the journey, it could be advice, training or a small item to protect him

Oracle (Played by Gloria Foster). Morpheus is like the Wise old man who offers Neo the truth of
the matrix and advice. Morpheus is also the one who start Neo s training by telling him what he
can and cannot do in the matrix. Then there is the Oracle she is like the Good mother, who give
Neo advise which helps him make a choice later during his journey. For the most part many people
helped Neo through his transformation, but these two are the biggest help of all.

Eating Disorders and Alcohol Abuse Essay
Eating Disorders and Alcohol Abuse
The relationship between eating disorders and alcoholism has become a widely researched topic
only in the last fifteen years. Since 1985, there have been an increasing number of research and case
studies substantiating a correlation between these two behavioral and addictive disorders.
Alcoholism affects nearly 14 million United States citizens (http://silk.nih.gov/silk/niaaa1

control over, physical dependence on, and tolerance to alcohol (http://silk.nih.gov/silk/niaaa1

The mean age of the subjects was 32 years and 7 months and they were equally divided among
the upper two social classes. The goal of this research was to examine the past and present eating
habits of female alcoholics to determine whether or not a correlation between the two disorders
existed. Two methods of research were used to evaluate the subjects: an interview and a
questionnaire. One of the authors interviewed each subject individually. The interview consisted
of two parts: (1) a detailed assessment of past and present eating behaviors and (2) an evaluation
of drinking patterns. The first part of the interview based eating disorders on a variety of patterns,
including binge eating behaviors that lasted for at least 6 months. The second part of the interview
used a pre determined interview created by Stockwell et al. to determine levels of alcohol
dependence. The questionnaire consisted of the Eating Attitudes Test, which is a standardized
measure of anorectic and bulimic behavior (Lacey et al., 1986: pp. 390).
The results of this study supported a correlation between past or present eating disorders and
alcoholism. The sample had mild to moderate dependence on alcohol, ranging from continuous to
fluctuating intake. 11 members of the sample had experience with binge eating. Nine of the patients
had a history of purging to deter weight gain. All of the patients were menstruating and all but one

An Islamic Language Of Iran
Bordering along the Gulf of Oman, the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea lies the country that was
once Persia until 1935, Iran. The official language of Iran is but not limited to Persian. Also
spoken in Iran is Azeri Turkic and Turkic, Mazandarani, Luri, Balochi, Gilaki and Arabic. Iran s
population includes Persians, Kurds, Lur, Baloch, Azeri, Arab, and Turkic tribes. Islam
is the
dominating religion with around 99.4% of the population being Muslim. An Islamic Republic was
formed in 1979 after the ruling monarchy was overthrown. A theocratic system was then created
by the conservative clerical forces which dictates that the laws of the land as being secular and

Classical vocal improvised music has some, while composed, metric pieces with ceremonial
implications, such as the pishdaramad, are definitely musiqi but lack the full range of objectionable
characteristics suggested in pieces with a primarily virtuoso intent, such as the chahar mezrab, or of
Westernized music, to say nothing of absolutely secular music such as night club performances. All
of this suggests that, in contemporary urban Iran, the sounds that might be considered to be simply
music in Western culture might be regarded as music, but to varying degrees.
The dominant sounds in Iran are the metallic and clear sounds. Persian classical music has free
form which can be measured or not and is open to improvisation (ГўvГўz/ chahГўrmezrГўb).
Moreover, from one maqГўm (system of melodic modes) to another, all the melodies resemble each
other, differing mainly by their scale. It is an ingenuous imitation technique, which has been
developed by the Central Asian masters. The musical form has no rules. Styles vary from calls at a
measured pace on a single note, or within a narrow range centred on one note, to richly melismatic
chants with a wide range. Rhythmic structure is influenced by the length of the syllables in the text.
Textual repetition often leads to repeated musical phrases differing only in their final note.

Essay On Gentrification Of Venice
This paper assesses the evolution and impact of gentrification on a beautiful beachside
neighborhood known as Venice over the past two decades. Due to the fact that I ve spent a fairly
good amount of my time throughout Venice, I have a great sense of the community and the culture.
But this community had gone through a lot, one being gentrification. Before gentrification, Venice
had a very natural society, accepting everyone for who they are. Venice was and frankly still is a
beautiful place to go for a jog or hang out with friends on the beach. However, the cost to live
there has soared through the roof. Merely renting an office in Venice has doubled since 2011 with
the average cost of renting a two bed room apartment falling slightly north of five thousand dollars
(Dave). Gentrification happened in Venice ultimately very quickly, causing rapid change in the
culture and the overall lifestyle of its long term residents. Venice, some consider, is the nicest area
in Los Angeles, due to its ethnic community and splendid attractions. Venice was discovered by
Abbot Kinney, a tobacco millionaire, around 1905 (Hormann). It was originally made... Show more

affected Oakwood towards the end of the 20th century. Even though the neighborhood is essentially
African American and Latino populated, it is still somewhat in inconsistency. According to Los
Angeles City Beat, In Venice, the transformation is ... obvious. Homes are fetching sometimes more
than $1 million, and homies are being displaced every day. (Romero) When wealthier whites started
to move into the area, long term residents started to perceive that there was a sense of non racial
integration in the neighborhood due to reconstruction of former homes and having built long fences

Market Transparency and Consumer Choice for Housing Essay
Since 2006, the number of foreclosures in the housing market has sparked dramatically. This is
due to the fact that banks have given out subprime mortgages or interest only loans to consumers
regardless of their credit score. One of the main reasons why banks did not care about consumers
credit history is because they resold the loans as mortgagebacked securities. This caused the loans
to fall into the hands of credit rating companies that rated the loans too positive; thus, these assets
were expanded and helped lead to the foreclosure crisis without hurting the banks directly. The goal
was that banks lustily sought the big payoff that these mortgages could provide. The mortgages
and loans let low income consumers pay only a low rate of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

So far, as a result, foreclosures are decreasing and the mortgages are becoming more affordable, but
job creation and transparency in the market has not occurred, so the crisis continues.
Fortunately, job creation is projected to increase by this spring due to the passing of the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dubbed the economic stimulus to pull us out of the
recession and create jobs; therefore, new job growth will help citizens pay their mortgages and
lower foreclosure even more. Despite all of these laws, there still remains one vital part to ensure
the stability of our financial system: transparency. Congress has proposed a financial overhaul bill
that would enforce new rules and regulation to the industry, but the downfall of it is that it would
hinder needed economic growth in a time of feeble recovery. So I propose creating an internet
portal administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The government
would then require banks to put the address on the top of every loan application to ensure
consumer awareness of the address. The portal or website would allow consumers to create a
profile and input a basic credit history. The employees at the Department of Housing and Urban
Development would then perform calculations about the type of loan, the ability to refinance and
buy a home, the risk factor for different types of loans, the outcome of the housing market in the
future, and a background check on every bank in

Risk Arbitrage: Abbott Labs Alza
1) How does risk arbitrage work? What are the risks and opportunities associated with this strategy?
Risk arbitrage, or merger and acquisition arbitrage, is one of three types of arbitrage strategies. Two
types of mergers are possible: a cash merger and a stock merger.
Cash Merger Opportunities
Acquirer proposes to purchase the shares of the target for a certain price in cash. Until the
acquisition is completed, the stock of the target usually trades below the purchase price. An
arbitrageur buys the stock of the target and makes a gain if the acquirer ultimately buys the stock.
Stock for Stock Merger Opportunities

The bet s payoff is reflected in the spread between the market values of consideration to be

Forever drawing their words, the Capulets and Montagues reveal no temptation to halt the ancient

Tybalt flares with rage, declaring to Lord Capulet, That men there s a Montague, our foe. A villain
who has come here in spite to mock at our celebration tonight. (I.v.62 64). Tybaltconveys his

However, the inquiry at hand does not emphasize the hatred among the two houses, but instead,
questions their reasoning for such an ongoing rivalry. Friar Lawrence additionally states, For this
alliance may happily prove to end your families feud, their hate remove. (II.iii.96 97). Not only does
the conflict between the households portray no viable reason, but it troubles those involved, such as
the Montague, Friar Lawrence. Lord Capulet and Lord Montague may contain mindsets strictly
based off the feud between them. Nevertheless, as elders, they display unawareness of the troubles
the rivalry has brought to their peers as well as the disturbance it precipitates for thoughts of

thoughtless purpose of the conflict, problems would not have surfaced when Friar Lawrence

Montague strife. Through the inclusion of an unknown purpose for the obstinate feud, William
Shakespeare depicts a probable reason for the troubles and possible despair of various

Palliative Care Is The End Of Life Care
Introduction
Palliative care is the end of life care that includes a period of time during which an individual
copes with his or her declining health from an ultimately terminal illness, through chronic illness
(Lubkin Larsen, 2012).Palliative care seeks to prevent and relieve suffering and to support the
best possible quality of life for patients and their families regardless of their stage of disease (Holtz,
2012). Additionally, palliative care preserves a patient s quality of life and provides respite for their
families.
Meanwhile, the aging population faces chronic illnesses with which they will live with for years
before their death. It is however, pertinent to note that the four chronic diseases, leading to death for

Providing cultural insensitive care to the client is also unethical. Since families are responsible for
caring for the ill loved one, it becomes ethically important that they are at least aware of an
impending death.
Clients are also able to receive palliative care in their homes as desired, or in the health care
facilities, with effective pain management regimen for the hospice patient. In the United States, it is
legally unethical to cause harm to the patients. Whatever country one may originate from, it is
imperative that Palliative care is available for comfort measures and to addresses the pain of the
dying individual.
Principles of Palliative care
Palliative care requires effective communication, which is a core skill. The need for establishing
trust cannot be overestimated. Consequently, the establishment of a good rapport with the patient
and their families is necessary for administering and receiving care in a calm and trusted
atmosphere. According to Lubkin Larsen, (2012), the last acts palliative care task force developed
five palliative principles of care. These include the integration of these precepts into clinical practice
enables clinicians to provide a continuum of care otherwise unavailable to clients with advancing
illness and their families. However, studies suggest that patient centered care and interviews are
associated with improved levels of satisfaction on the part of patients and their families (Lubkin

Competitive Analysis of Business Cycles
Institutional Affiliation Competitive Analysis Business Cycles Labor is an important factor of
production for all firms. Business information is not perfect at Wal Mart Stores: economic
experts are not dismayed or surprised with the unemployment rates at the stores. Employees at
Wal Mart stores are likely to be affected by frictional unemployment. This occurs at a result of
everyday changes in the company s economic structure, which is likely to lead to the death of
the firm. Employees at Wal Mart are likely to get tired of the old bosses and old jobs. Bosses at
Wal Mart find the claim that subordinates are producing unsatisfactory work: workers are likely
to enter and re enter at Wal Mart (Peterson, Fabozzi, 2009). Structural unemployment occurs
frequently at Wal Mart because the firm does not hire qualified candidates for their jobs. Workers
are required to perform any jobs and are paid less for their jobs. The company s minimum wage is
extremely thus precipitating structural unemployment. Supervisors have a tendency of upsetting
other workers and amounts to drop down in production and amount of work done. Other workers
have proven to be mentally retarded: the company spends much time on supervision than
production (Power, 2010). Statistics will not reveal the rate of structurally unemployed people at
Wal Mart. This is because such people are likely to gain the conviction that they can never be
employed by Wal Mart thus stops trying. Wal Mart has realized

Ortiz (2006) states that a company kaizen program helps create a foundation for change that will
enable a company to sustain process improvements for the life of the company (Ortiz, 2006, p.
31). Neese and Kong (2007) articulate that creating a kaizen culture is a bold decision, even a
cultural transformation that will unleash a company s potential. Their company, Solectron, created
a vision that encouraged employees not to look for the best way of doing things, but to always
look for a better way. They advocate using three fundamental practices: management and shop
floor synergy, process and results, and trystorming. First, management creates the passion for the
cultural shift and employees embrace the vision; second, by creating a process to a problem,
lastly, employees are able to visualize and analyze whether kaizen provided a better alternative, and
trystorming blends brainstorming with action so employees can see a problem and apply solutions
(Neese amp; Kong, 2007, p. 57).
Kaizen Techniques. Certainly, the use of kaizen techniques empowers employees to take proactive
steps to create better working conditions through the use of quality management processes.
Alexander Styhre (2001) posits that rather than thinking that management techniques can empower
employees, the idea of ethics, or what he refers to as technologies of the self, provide possibilities
for analyzing how

In an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Lopez accused Mencia of appropriating 13 minutes
of his material in Mencia s HBO special. He also claimed he had a physical altercation with
Mencia over the alleged appropriation.[4][5] Complaining about the cancellation of his television
series Lopez declared TV just got a lot whiter! and the fact that his show was cancelled and
replaced by Cavemen which only aired for a few episodes before its cancellation. Lopez says
that ABC caused over a hundred of his show s staff to become jobless.[6] Lopez frequently
mentions his hatred for Eric Estrada. According to Lopez, he met Estrada when he was a teenager
and Estrada was in the zenith of his career. Estrada refused to shake the teenager s hand, and Lopez
has hated him ever since. Lopez mentions this story whenever he gets the opportunity, telling the

Write An Essay On The History Of The Supreme Court
The United States is one of few countries that have not only a written constitution but one that has
endured for over 200 years and seems to continue to dominate the political discussion. Foreigners
may look at Americans as weird due to their devotion to this document and that many look at a
document to answer our question. Justice John Marshall s decision in Marbury v. Madison where
he established the idea of judicial review by declaring section 13 of the Judiciary Act of 1783
unconstitutional and really reinforced the supremacy clause in Article VI of the US Constitution
ushered in a new era of the Supreme Court; one that showed how important the institution really

There seems to be two prevailing theories of interpretation in the Supreme Court the first being
originalism which has been used most famously by both Justice Black as well as Justice Scalia
although both reached their decisions by different methods. Justice Hugo Black and Justice Antonin
Scalia were both originalist although they did differ in their methods. Originalism has a few main
beliefs one being that judicial power should be constrained to exactly what is the original meaning
of the Constitution. Some primary methods for the interpretation of the Constitution in regards to
originalism are intent, that is what the framers and ratifiers intent was when the Constitution was
written, textualism which can also be plain meaning like Scalia as well as the literal words in the
Constitution and original public meaning being the original conventional semantic meaning. The
other prominent theory is that of the living constitution or sometimes called non originalism as
well as evolutionism. The theory of the living constitution has the basic premise that the
Constitution was not meant to be static or frozen but to evolve as we progressed as a nation and
has sometimes been referred to as the workable government approach as it was called in United
States v. Nixon in an opinion delivered by Chief Justice Burger.
In order to understand what Originalism is it is important to look at Justice Antonin Scalia who was
at the forefront of the Originalist movement

So now it s life. Money is life. Once upon a time freedom used to be life now it s money. I guess
the world really do change . . . These are the words of Lena Younger (Mama) in the play, A Raisin
in the Sun as she effectuated her role as the superior head of the Younger family. In order to truly
decipher what the author wishes to share through the eyes of this character, it is important to take a
thorough and insightful analysis of her. By closely evaluating her role in the family, what she
wants, her personality, and, even what inanimate object she can be compared to, the reader will see
what the author, Lorraine Hansberry, had in mind as she matured this character. Mama s role in the
Younger family is very beneficial for the entire household. Her role continuously portrays her as
arbitrator throughout the play mainly because of the situations the family keeps running into.
When Ruth, Mama s daughter in law, was pregnant she ended up needed some help dealing with
it and Mama was there as a backbone holding her up. Mama is a strong motivational force in this
play and this is why whenever there is a problem the members of the family are turning to her for
help, even if it s not intentional. As it is suggested in her name, Lena s entire family leans on her
and draws from her strength in order to replenish their own .

Analysis Of The Tomb Painting Queen Nefertari And Isis
Analysis of the tomb painting Queen Nefertari and Isis, by an unknown artist.
Pigment painting on tomb walls.
Queen and Goddess
In this formal analysis, the subject is the wall painting Queen Nefertari and Isis, located in
Nefertaris tomb. The painting shows the ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis leading the Queen by the
hand. Nefertari lived around 1300 1255 BC and was the first and exclusively claimed wife of the
Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II.
When analyzing the artwork one can see the influence of what we now understand to be art form,
through the numerous art elements the painting of Queen Nefertari and Isis has. Starting with lines,
the artist uses many types of both regular and irregular, to create the hieroglyphics and the shape of
the women along with what they wear. The ancient Egyptians liked to have things in order and
consistent. We see the proof for this behind their canon of proportions method. In order to make
complex figures easier to depict, the traditional style and trademark of ancient Egyptian
artworks show everything drawn or carved to be two dimensional in shape. However, they also
wanted to show the aspects they valued the most as a society. As stated in the film How Art
Made The World, in the case of the human body ancient Egyptian chose to show each body part
from its clearest angel; and as a result of a keeping the figures 2 D, the chest is shown straight on,

  • 2. Summary Of The Urban Legend Of Fairfax County During the summer of 2011, I went to visit my cousins that lived in Fairfax County. One night there was a tornado warning, and the strong winds and rain had cut off all the power to the house. All we had to that night was tell stories, and one tale brought up was about the county we were in. While the urban legend intrigued me, you could easily identify the overarching message of the tale which was to be cautious at night. According to the legend, in 1904 an insane asylum was being shut down per request from residents of Fairfax County. During the transfer there was an accident allowing the inmates to escape into a forest. While some were detained, others were killed because of their hostility. Police officers were able to find all but two people, Marcus and Douglas that were still missing. Local police officers followed a trail of dead rabbits in the forest that lead them to a bridge. Hanging from the bridge was Marcus with a note attached to his foot that read: you ll never find the bunny man .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s about a very troubled man that attacking innocent people. The urban legend first began to gain traction in the 1970s. What it tells us about the time in which it originated is how mental health was perceived. Upon hearing the story, I was frightened which is what it aimed to do. The story was created to scare us, but why does it also evoke fear of those with mental illness as well? The legend associates those institutionalized in an asylum as being murderers, when in reality they re mutually exclusive. Being institutionalized doesn t mean you re killer. The transfer of inmates in the urban legend only occurred per request of the residents of Fairfax. They didn t want an asylum in their county, because of how they perceived the patients as being a threat to their safety. The story only goes on to confirm that it the right decision to move people in the insane asylum, because they turned out to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Weather The Migration Hypothesis The reading and the lecture discuss weather the migration hypothesis is true for the edomontosaurs the elephant like dinosaurs to prove the North Slope as their habitat. The lecturer puts forth three aspects, each of which has casts doubt on the three points presented in the reading passage. To begin with, the professor avers that at the time of the edomontosaurs the temperature in the North slopes was warmer than ours. She says that the warmer temperature helps to have good vegetation in summer. Even the dead plants were enough to feed the edomontosaurs in the North slopes during winter. Thus the edomontosaurs did not need to migrate to south the warm place. This directly challenges the reading assertion that the food requirement for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. In The Heart Of The Sea Summary The book I read was called In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick. This book tells the story of brave men on a whaling ship called the Essex who were lost at sea. It tells about how starvation, dehydration, and how psychologically the human brain breaks down. This story is told from the third person view explaining the lives of the men and the troubles they went through. This story is about 20 men who were lost at sea after their boat was destroyed by a feral whale. Many of these men were nantucketers, spartans of the sea, but instead of killing men they killed whales. Nantucketers were bred for hunting whales; it s almost a religion for the people of Nantucket Island. It is ironic that the Nantucketers have such a blood lust for... • 7. Examples Of Just War Utilitarianism Just war theory includes the justification of the how and why that wars are fought. The justification of war can be either viewed from a theoretical or historical perspective. The theoretical aspect regards justifying war in an ethical manner and the specific forms that combat may or may not involve. The historical aspect, or the just wartradition, deals with the rules or agreements that have been applied to wars throughout time. Ethics examine institutional agreements for their philosophical coherence as well as to inquire about whether aspects of the conventions should be altered. The just war tradition may also consider the thoughts of various philosophers and lawyers throughout time and to examine both their philosophical visions of war s ethical limits (or absence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be applied to the just war theory. For the utilitarian approach, the end justifies the means. Therefore, a nation would not need a just war cause other than having the right intentions and making sure that the war would produce the greatest good for the greatest number of individuals. The notion of jus in bello is to make sure that less evil will come about if the war is fought. For example, when looking at New York City s 9/11 bombings, a utilitarian would say that this was wrong : it was a selfish approach that did not end in the greatest good for the greatest number; a utilitarian would not go against a threat made by a country or world leader if the outcome would be the best for the entire world and would make it a better place than it was before. The other approach: people are going to war without a just cause other than for just good intentions. This would make the world a volatile, shaky unstable place. Overall, the utilitarian and the jus in bello advocate would agree with the just war theory that war might be necessary to make the world a better place as long as the war is justified through just ... This can affect many people, but typically the decision is the right one for the company and its people. Medical people and people working in law have much less time and resources to make decisions. This can ultimately affect decision makers. But thankfully, managers, medical personnel, and law enforcement officers are all trained, regardless of time, or resources on how to effectively and successfully make tough decisions for the betterment of situations, people, and other factors related to the respective fields. 2. What is the goal of the Magretta book, What Management Is? Support your response with specific page numbers from your readings in APA style. Most books can be broken down into one or several main goals. This book, What Management is? Is no different. The foremost goal of this book is to present a coherent view of the whole, of the work known as general management (Magretta, 9). Furthermore, the goal includes the attempt to deliver a concise synthesis of important ideas and practices. For instance, value creation, business models, competitive strategies, performance metrics and more (Magretta, 9). • 9. Hydraulic Fracture Case Study In grid based models, the fracture is propagated through a fixed grid. This idea was used in early 2D hydraulic fracture simulators (Settari 1980) where when the stress normal to the fracture plane exceeded the tensile strength, the fracture extended into a new grid cell. Therefore, grid based models were suitable for coupling with reservoir simulators and geomechanics codes (Ji, Settari, and Sullivan 2009). 3D grid based models were extended to deal with multiple fractures, for example, the MultiFrac Placement Pseudo 3D (MLF P3D) model (Dontsov and Peirce 2015). These models are very complex being capable of simulating multiple hydraulic fractures simultaneously propagating from multiple perforation intervals where each perforation... (2010), considers the effect of natural fractures, stress distribution, and influence of the mechanical properties of fracture morphology (Cipolla et al. 2010). The UFM model can simulate the propagation of asymmetric fracture networks accounting for fluid flow in the fracture network and elastic deformation of the fractures. The initial assumptions and governing equations (fluid flow in the fracture network, mass conservation and fracture deformation) are similar to the conventional P3D model (Weng 2015). Passey et al. (2010) claimed that there is a large variability in lithology between shale plays and even within a single shale formation (Passey et al. 2010). Britt and Smith (2009) emphasized the importance of geomechanics and the state of stress of a shale play for a successful hydraulic fracturing stimulation (Britt and Smith 2009). In addition, Rickman et al. (2008) stressed that the mechanical rock properties, such as brittleness and mineralogy, are fundamental in completion designs. While ductile shale tend to restore any fracture formed, brittle shale often have natural fractures which react to hydraulic fracturing (Rickman et al. 2008). In general, the Young s Modulus of the shale measured parallel to the bedding plane is greater than that measured perpendicular to the bedding plane. • 10. Being A Sixth Grade Mean Girl On Being a Sixth Grade Mean Girl Squeals pierce my eardrums as little girls talk about loving their boyfriends. The overbearing scent of Axe radiates off of every arrogant schoolboy who gallivants across the grounds and stops at my locker. Gossip flutters around me, seducing me into its inescapable vice. Such was Memorial Middle School when I first debuted in August, 2011. Going into sixth grade, I was the most popular girl in school. Although I may have had ebony hair and bubblegum lips, there was no hiding the ugliness of who I was: the meanest girl in school. I hadn t always been that girl; for two years I was the opposite, a victim of excruciating cruelty. In third grade, I was placed into the Enrichment program, a group of five... Soon enough, I started to believe them; by the conclusion of fourth grade, I felt worthless. When I learned that I would be transferring schools, I saw redemption. That summer, I exchanged novels for magazines; I went on extreme diets to lose weight as if cutting pounds could cut the memories of abuse from my head. Going into fifth grade, I found myself googling How to be Normal in an attempt to abandon my identity; fifteen pounds and a miniskirt later, I had all but done so. By maintaining a facade of normalcy , I became instantly popular, and I gained influence that I had never thought possible. Girls looked to me for advice on everything from boys to hairstyles, and I reveled in my superiority . Thus, when sixth grade arrived, I was a bully; I became the people who had tormented me. I was deliberately vicious, ridiculing anyone who didn t fit the impossible standard I used to hide my insecurities. I slashed people down and used their broken pieces to repair myself. The girl I had been seemed permanently lost to the monster I had become until Julia. Julia was everything I secretly longed to be: beautiful, brilliant, and unapologetically compassionate. She was my first friend in Mentor, but I rapidly abandoned her upon realizing that she was unpopular . That is where our contact ended; simply ignoring her meant that no harm came to ... • 11. Exploration For A New Route In one such exploration for a new route to Asia, the VOC in 1609 employed Henry Hudson, an Englishman, to locate the legendary Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans. The VOC had hoped that it would provide a safer and quicker route instead of having to pass through the Cape of Good Hope or going around the tip of South of America. While Hudson never did discover the supposed Northwest Passage, he did explore a vast area of modern day northern US and Canada. These explorations gained the VOC a foothold in North America as they established trading posts in 1614 at Manhattan and Albany; however these posts were only half heartedly promoted. Nonetheless, the VOC participated in the slave trade by establishing a route... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overall part that the Dutch played in the Atlantic slave trade was never much more than 5 7 per cent, which is estimated to be about 550,000 slaves. The economic aspects of the Transatlantic slave trade were relatively meagre as far as the Dutch were concerned; therefore asking the question of rather or not it was worth the bother. While the Dutch West India Companytook part in the typically less profitable aspects of Dutch Trade, the VOC was turning enormous profits all across the East Indies and Asia. The VOC were the only Europeans allowed to conduct trade with Japan throughout their isolation during the Edo period (1603 1868). The VOC were only permitted to trade at the designated port, Dejima, on the island of Nagasaki and there were only ever a select few allowed to come temporary onto the mainland. One of the reasons why the Japanese permitted trade with the Dutch was because the Dutch were only interested in the acquiring of Japanese silver and copper, not incorporating Dutch ideologies and culture onto Japan. Furthermore, William Adams, who worked for the Dutch, had travelled to Japan before the start of their isolation and became an advisor to Ieyasu, the head of the Japanese government. Due to these two reasons when Japan closed its borders off to the outside world, the Dutch were one of the three countries, Korea and China being the other two, the Japanese were permitted to trade with. Captivity narratives began with the settlement of North America and continued as a significant genre in American literature until the end of the nineteenth century. The first captivity narratives are believed to have been created by Native Americans who were captured by early Spanish explorers. However, the genre commonly refers to the accounts written by European settlers who were abducted by Native Americans. European settlers were fleeing to the new land in order to escape religious persecutions, in order for that to happen, they had to take the land from the Native Americans which later progressed to kidnapping and captivity of some early settlers. Both authors clearly establish a sudden attack in the beginning of the narratives. Later during their time in captivity, both authors make it clear that they are forced to change locations due to a forced march by the Indians that took them captive. Examples of sale or trade are evident in each narrative. One key example is when Mary Rowlandson states she was sold to King Philip s wife s sister by a Narragansett Indian in her narrative The Sovereignty and Goodness of God .(132) Finally these two narratives are completely different in the last key point in the captivity narrative outline , the ransom or escape. These encounters include either living through the experience first hand or the experience being conveyed by another person. Our perception weeds out main ideas from those experiences deeming them realistic and if so labels them truths. When we encounter experiences through person to person, alterations occur at times on purpose by the conveyor on the experience so the translation by the recipient can result in the closest experience to the experience retained by the conveyor. These changes highlight the retained ideas in the experience, allowing it to remain a truth, O Brien explains, when you go to tell about it, there is always that surreal seemingness, which makes the story untrue, but which in fact represents the hard and exact truth as it seemed (O Brien 442). • 35. Informative Essay On Slapstick Now of days there are many different types of humor that make people laugh around the world. They can range from a common conventional joke to any type of irony. Although I believe physical humor or slapstick is the most hilarious to me. I think slapstick humor is the best because it s used the most, can be used in other parts of humor, and has been around for ages. First let s talk about, what is physical humor and where does the term slapstick come from. So most people know what slapstick is when it comes to physical humor, but many do not know where the word came from. The word slapstick came from the Italian word batacchio or batacchio. Slapstick is also a descendent of the comic routines of Italian Commedia Dell arte touring players,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance conventional jokes can include physical comedy. Famous comedian Kevin Hart for example does this in most of his standup acts. During his act when he was talking about his first time cursing he included physical humor twice. First when he got an attitude with his mom and said how she slapped him, he slapped himself to give effect to what he was saying. The second was when his mom gave him permission to curse at school but he took it to fare. So as Kevin Hart state I got an ass whooping and my mom beat the shit out of me. Now some people might not find this funny that a mother is beating her child. Although the crowd that night did, this is a well known Kevin Hart piece. To continue physical humor can also be mixed in with irony. Now irony is an event that seems purposely different to what one expects and is often amusing as a result. A normal example of irony would be for instance a dog playing a piano like in the Muppets, or a tow truck towing another tow truck. An example of irony with physical humor would when someone is walking and steps on a banana pill. You would think they would just keep walking, but instead they slip and fall on the banana. These examples with the irony and conventional jokes show that physical humor can be implied with other types of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In these myths it is just the time, place and setting that changes. This is why Hollywood is so successful at making good movies, because they base it off these myths. The most popular myth is that of the hero, because for most of us this is what we want to be. With this myth we can live that experience through these characters. In the creation of a hero there are ten stages, using the Matrixas an example we will look at these ten stages. The mean age of the subjects was 32 years and 7 months and they were equally divided among the upper two social classes. The goal of this research was to examine the past and present eating habits of female alcoholics to determine whether or not a correlation between the two disorders existed. Two methods of research were used to evaluate the subjects: an interview and a questionnaire. One of the authors interviewed each subject individually. The interview consisted of two parts: (1) a detailed assessment of past and present eating behaviors and (2) an evaluation of drinking patterns. The first part of the interview based eating disorders on a variety of patterns, including binge eating behaviors that lasted for at least 6 months. The second part of the interview used a pre determined interview created by Stockwell et al. to determine levels of alcohol dependence. The questionnaire consisted of the Eating Attitudes Test, which is a standardized measure of anorectic and bulimic behavior (Lacey et al., 1986: pp. 390). The results of this study supported a correlation between past or present eating disorders and alcoholism. The sample had mild to moderate dependence on alcohol, ranging from continuous to fluctuating intake. 11 members of the sample had experience with binge eating. This is due to the fact that banks have given out subprime mortgages or interest only loans to consumers regardless of their credit score. One of the main reasons why banks did not care about consumers credit history is because they resold the loans as mortgagebacked securities. This caused the loans to fall into the hands of credit rating companies that rated the loans too positive; thus, these assets were expanded and helped lead to the foreclosure crisis without hurting the banks directly. The goal was that banks lustily sought the big payoff that these mortgages could provide. The mortgages and loans let low income consumers pay only a low rate of... Despite all of these laws, there still remains one vital part to ensure the stability of our financial system: transparency. Congress has proposed a financial overhaul bill that would enforce new rules and regulation to the industry, but the downfall of it is that it would hinder needed economic growth in a time of feeble recovery. So I propose creating an internet portal administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The portal or website would allow consumers to create a profile and input a basic credit history. Madison where he established the idea of judicial review by declaring section 13 of the Judiciary Act of 1783 unconstitutional and really reinforced the supremacy clause in Article VI of the US Constitution ushered in a new era of the Supreme Court; one that showed how important the institution really was and would lead to further interpretation of cases such as Martin v.... There seems to be two prevailing theories of interpretation in the Supreme Court the first being originalism which has been used most famously by both Justice Black as well as Justice Scalia although both reached their decisions by different methods. Justice Hugo Black and Justice Antonin Scalia were both originalist although they did differ in their methods. Some primary methods for the interpretation of the Constitution in regards to originalism are intent, that is what the framers and ratifiers intent was when the Constitution was written, textualism which can also be plain meaning like Scalia as well as the literal words in the Constitution and original public meaning being the original conventional semantic meaning. The other prominent theory is that of the living constitution or sometimes called non originalism as well as evolutionism. The theory of the living constitution has the basic premise that the Constitution was not meant to be static or frozen but to evolve as we progressed as a nation and has sometimes been referred to as the workable government approach as it was called in United States v. Nixon in an opinion delivered by Chief Justice Burger. In order to understand what Originalism is it is important to look at Justice Antonin Scalia who was at the forefront of the Originalist movement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
