Lay Dying, the main symbol is the wagon that carries Addie Bundren to Jacksonville, her home.
Similarly, the main symbol of Little Miss Sunshine is the bus that takes the Hoover family to Redondo
Beach, California. These two objects go more into depth as the movie progresses. The bus is a clear

Beijing and moved to the United States in 1996 to go to college. She originally studied immunology at
the University of Iowa, but after taking a writing course she started writing fiction. She earned her
master of fine arts in 2005 with a focus on fiction (Yiyun). Persimmons is a short story told by a group
of older men sitting around a tree. They are in the middle of a drought, so their crops and animals are

When a matter such as the Bubonic Plague strikes in a world unexposed to the current technology and
information citizens tend to create false cures and treatments. These treatments are highly dangerous
and unhygienic. A common treatment used was bloodletting, which was the act of extracting blood
from a patient to remove the disease. Similar to bloodletting was boil lancing which is when you take
a knife to slice the buboes until they bursted. Buboes were a symptom of the Bubonic Plague
described as a swollen inflamed lymph node. Others however believed in superstitious practices, for
example burning aromatic herbs and bathing in rose water or vinegar. Some more eccentric treatments

The Body it becomes evident that children will try to find guidance in almost anything. But, as King
demonstrates in his novella, the most common source of guidance comes from a child s friends. All
four boys, Gordie, Teddy, Vern, and Chris replace the rolls of their parents by comforting, protecting,
and counselling each other through tough times. First, the boys replace the guidance rolls of their

probably produces some of the most dramatic scenes in the Novella. The boys comfort each other in

The Cultural Differences Between British And British Culture
Having been born in America, the American culture differs slightly from the British culture
particularly due to the influence the British exerted on North Americans during the colonial period.
Further, most of the Americans are immigrants from other countries, with most of the people coming
from the United Kingdom and Ireland. The eminent cultural differences between the two cultures is
that the behavior of people in the British culture are laid back while their American counterparts are
more hectic and appear to be in a hurry. The British do not like to engage in conversations with
strangers and tend to stick to their close friends while Americans are social to strangers in public

While the British prefer pub food, the North Americans prefer fast foods. There are differences in the
cuisine and dialect, which sets the two cultures apart. Further, in Britain people are more obsessed
with soccer, tennis, and rugby while North Americans prefer baseball, basketball, hockey, and
