2.1 Research papers:  Dairy mother has a market share of about 33% in the branded sector in West
Bengal where she sells 3.4 lakhs litre of milk per day on average and undertakes its marketing
operations with about 51 distributors and 600 retailers Kolkata itself. It has a huge advantage over its
competitors because it is the only player when it comes to the sale of milk in bulk token. Before the
entry of competitors like Amul, selling bulk milk from their mothers milk booths was about 35% of
total sales in the branded segment, where Mother Dairy was the only player on the market. However,
for five years, sales are declining steadily, and now it is just 8 9%.  Chronic shortages of milk, India

A Career As A Crime Scene Investigator
I have always been around people who were Investigators or police officers. I have also watched
shows movies, and read books about this career with my family and friends. While my sisters were
playing with dolls, house and dress up, me and my father would make up crime scenes to investigate
and make entire profiles of the people we would be looking for. We would draw out maps of where the
suspect was last seen and the possibilities of where they would hit next. Crime Scene Investigation has
always been a large part of my life. I want to be a Crime Scene Investigator because I want to help
protect people and do my part in the world while doing something I have always been interested in.
A Crime Scene Investigator, also called a Forensic Scientist, supports polices detectives and other law

evidence tagging, sketching, photographing and print gathering for laboratory processing. They also

Individual Rights In Nigeria By Lin Anderson
The short story, written by Lin Anderson, is about the main character Mr. Ugwu, his African family
and his job. The short story s focus is the difference between nationalities, their culture and one s
individual rights in regards to skin color and social rank. The story takes place in Nigeria. After a little
research , one will see that Nigeria is a former British colony. The fact that it is a former colony plays
a significant role, because of the texts theme mentioned above.
Mr. Ugwu used to live with his family in Lagos, but some changes in Mr. Ugwu s work forced them to
move out into the bush. Mrs. Ugwu is very much against it as the life they lived in Lagos was good.
By the looks of it, the Ugwu family seem to be a middle class family. ... Show more content on

Ugwu s house. In the rush of a moment they are trampling all over Mrs. Ugwu s garden: [...] then in a
sudden rush of momentum they are over the ditch and trampling Mrs Ugwu s plants into the red earth
(p. 3, l. 112 113). The mob trampling all over the garden is an important symbol. At this point status
does not mean anything to the workers, so to show their anger and frustration they destroy the garden.
By destroying the garden, they thereby destroy Mr. Ugwu s status. Mr. Ugwu decides to flee, but not
to escape the mob. He runs the protect the family that means more to him than any title or status could
ever do: When Mr Ugwu hears the chants of the crowd round his veranda, he takes one look at the
terrified faces of his wife and children, lifts the bread knife from the table and goes through the empty
kitchen [...] He runs until he has no more breath and then he stops, turns and screams abuse in Ibo
until he is sure the crowd have heard and are following him. Then he looks about for somewhere to
hide (p. 3, l. 116 121). After a while, it starts to rain making the mob give up on their hunt for Mr.
Ugwu. The rain could be seen as a fresh start, the past is being washed away.
Mr. Ugwu is hit by a rush of anger, which causes him to kill his neighbors monkey. The monkey is
usually kept in a cage outside of the house, and is only allowed out a few hours a day. The monkey is a
symbol of freedom. When he kills the monkey, Mr. Ugwu kills his own freedom. However, looking at
situation a little different, the monkey as a symbol gets a new meaning. When the monkey is released,
it becomes its own master still restraint by the collar though. In order to be truly free, the monkey has
to die. When Mr. Ugwu kills the monkey, he not only sets the monkey free of all restraints, he sets

Child Abusers And Children And Adults All Over The World
Child abusers coexist with children and adults all over the world, but this does not necessarily have to
be public knowledge. People in support of child abusers having public records often feel their children
are safer with this knowledge, allowing them to determine where to live and raise their children.
Others argue these public records are a violation of rights dictated within the Constitution and abusers
should be allowed to maintain their privacy regardless of their crime. Both sides advocate for the
rights of either the abuser or the child to ensure protection. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, sexual abuse involving children is defined as, any completed or attempted
(noncompleted) sexual act, sexual contact with, or exploitation (i.e. noncontact sexual interaction) of a
child with a caregiver (Murray, Nguyen, and Cohen, 322). Although varying opinions exist about the
functioning definition of child sexual abuse, the debate over the controversy of child abuser s
identities is typically discussed based on this definition. This ongoing debate revolves around the
question as to whether or not the public should know the identities of those convicted of child sexual
abuse and how much information should be made public based on the individual offender s case.
Currently, a child sexual abuser s personal information such as, the offender s name, address, offense,
place of employment or schooling, and license plate number, along with a

Ethical Issues in Gerontology Ethical Issues in Gerontology Nowadays, nurses who provide elder care
are faced with several legal and ethical dilemmas in a daily basis. Besides to the social and legal
dilemma it creates, elder abuse, neglect or also known as elder mistreatment is a massive health care
crisis that can lead to long term health complications and even death (Fulmer Greenberg, 2012). The
purpose of this paper is to review the literature and examine the nature of elder abuse in relation to its
legal and ethical implications. Furthermore, this paper is intended to discuss the causes and types of

The cause of elder abuse is multifaceted. Generally, a combination of psychological, social, and
economic factors, as well as mental and physical conditions of the victim and perpetrator contribute to
the occurrence of elder abuse Wagner, Greenberg, Capezuti, 2002 as cited on (Fulmer Greenberg,
2012). In the developing world family members provide 60% to 80% of long term care of their elderly
significant others (American Psychological Association, 2012). Consequently, the burden of providing
constant physical care needs such as toileting and bathing can be particularly stressful. The complexity
of providing care to a physically, cognitively or emotionally impaired elderly individual can also be
tremendous. Depression, confusion, Alzheimer s disease, or incontinence on the part of the aging
person can make care giving especially overwhelming ((American Psychological Association, 2012).
According to American Psychological Association (2006), in addition to providing in average 20
hours a week at home on care giving responsibilities, about 64% of those family caregivers work
either part time or full time out side of home. As a result, the caregivers often suffer from interrupted
sleep, chronic fatigue, little or no privacy, and disintegrating personal lives. (National Center for Elder
Abuse, 2011). Furthermore, abuse can often escalates when the care giver faces economic hardships,
such as unable to pay the cost of health care services for the

Analysis of ‘Patterns’ Written by Amy Lowell Essay
Amy Lowell is an American imagist poet who uses descriptive language to create specific images in a
readers mind. Set in the Victorian era (1800 s,) the dramatic monologue Patterns explores the
restrictions of unmarried women in society and the desire for freedom. My view of these issues is that
of a feminist reader living in a democratic modern day society, where men and women live in a state
of equality and have the right to express their opinions. A feminist reading focuses on the specific
treatment of women. Through Lowell s wondrous use of the poetic techniques, primarily visual
imagery (symbolism, repetition, contrasts) and poetic voice (persona and tone,) a modern day feminist
reader s negative views of the restricted lifestyles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This develops the idea that her future with this man as a married woman provided a stable lifestyle
where she would not have to live by the rigid patterns of society, reinforcing a modern day feminist
reader s view of the expectations and restrictions placed on unmarried women during the Victorian
era.
There is a distinct contrast between appearance and reality, which works to reinforce the idea of
confining individualistic behaviours to retain the pattern of society. In stanza two, she says that
tripping by in high heeled, ribboned shoes/ (there is) not a softness anywhere about (her) (lines 16 and
17) when she s wearing only whalebone and brocade (line 18.) The term whalebone refers to a
whalebone corset, which is a very hard material that is restrictive to movement. By describing her
actions as tripping, a modern day feminist reader is reinforced that she is not coping in her current
lifestyle where she is limited to living in a strict manner. In the next stanza, she says that underneath
(her) stiffened gown/ Is the softness of a woman (lines 32 and 33.) This develops the idea that the way
she dresses is a deceiving appearance, because she is not as stiff and stable on the inside as she comes
across on the outside. Deep down she is soft and sad, in mourning of the loss of her lover, yet she
cannot express these emotions due to the expectations and restrictions of women during the Victorian
era.

The Last Of The Mohicans Movie Essay
In the time of the 7 years war, is the timeframe which The last of the Mohicans was written in and
then later, made into a film based on the novel. I will be describing the plot, both the historical
accuracies and inaccuracies, the film themes, and my opinion of the acting, all on the 1992 film. I was
completely impressed with this film. Not having read the book I cannot compare the two, however I
can compare what I saw with actual events from that time and what I saw. The plot of this film starts
out in 1757, the American colonies are in the middle of the third year of the French and Indian War.
This war was comprised of English and French soldiers fighting for the possession of the continent. It
starts out with this quote in the beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It lingers too much on either the romance or the feud between Magua and Col. Munroe. All great parts
of the story, yes, however, if you were watching The Last of the Mohicans purely for historical
purposes and to find out things about the war, you wouldn t learn much. Yes, the movie (and the book
as well I m sure), does depict for the most part of what I could tell, everything accurately. It is the
point of it not showing enough about this huge event in our history. How did the war get started? Who
won the war? What all tribes and alliances aided both sides? There are a lot of left out details,
unfortunately, which makes it hard to follow the details of the French and Indian war. For example,
the fight between Magua and his Indians against Munroe and the English was quite a bit less violent
than what is led to believe. Not to forget, we are not shown the reaction of Montcalm in finding out
his Huron Indians disobeyed him in letting the English go safely. Also, the deepest inaccuracies I do
believe come from what the book had written and what the movie chose to tell us. Those things aside
though, it is a marvelous film. Yes, there are some inaccuracies in this film and probably even in the
book, however, for a Hollywood production, I think they outdid themselves (did amazing). It can be a
little hard to follow at times, but the film is overall

Essay On A Systems Approach
In today s economic and industrial environment, a systems approach to the design and operation of
manufacturing and supply is more important than ever. Do you agree with this statement, and why?
When a great idea is created, starting up the business isn t as easy as buying some real estate, hiring
some people, and telling them what to do. A systems approach to how the company is going to be
designed and operated must be created and constantly reanalyzed. A system is a design that takes in
inputs and produces outputs. To create a system, the first situation needs to be looked at and a purpose
or nature must be identified. Next, a list of everything that will be going into the pizza restaurant must
be created and labeled as inputs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that in todays economical and industrial environment, a systems approach is increasingly
important. A working system can help a company run smoothly and efficiently. An example of a
successful system is Walmart and their renowned supply chain system. A failed system is the reaction
to the Katrina disaster management which is still having a lasting effect along the Gulf coast.
Today, Walmart is a superstore empire with 11500 retail units in 28 counties and employs 2.3 million
workers. To reach this success, Walmart has mastered their supply chain management strategy and
system that has allowed them to cut costs and allow consumers to save money. One technique that
Walmart uses is to have fewer links in the supply chain. Walmart started working directly with the
manufactures to save money and be able to have more control over its supply chain. They used a
method called Vendor Managed Inventory which made manufactures responsible for managing
Walmart s orders and keeping them in stock from them inside Walmart s warehouse. [2] Walmart only
sought out strategic vendor partnerships. Walmart would only buy from suppliers who had the best
price and were in a position to meet demand. They then negotiated lower prices by offering to order
from them long term and to make high volume purchases. Walmart then created communication and
relationship networks with the suppliers which allowed

Dystopian Society
Many novels, as well as video games, deal with texts of the dystopic genre. Dystopia has become an
instrumental form of literature in all countries; however, some texts are better at relaying their
message than others. For example, in the video game, The Last of Us, the two protagonists, one adult
male and one young girl, fight through hordes of the infected . They do so in order to save mankind
from utter extinction. Despite being a video game, this text captures the quintessential elements
needed in order to become a relatable piece of work and does so by making both Joel and Ellie (the
protagonists) truthful characters. In addition to The Last of Us, the novel The Running Man, by Steven
King, also deals with the topic of dystopia. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He soon approaches what looks like an injured man; however, the man was not injured and attempts to
kill Joel and Ellie to steal his truck. This is a prime example of the modified human nature present in
dystopian societies. In an attempt to preserve what human kindness Joel has left , he ends up in a
situation much like that of Richards in The Running Man, creating a similarity in the two story arcs.
The use of cliché as a rhetoric device is present in both Richards, and Joel and Eli s lives, and serves
as one of the reasons why both story arcs hold the attention of the player/reader. However, The Last of
Us serves as a much more relatable situation for the player than that of the reader of Stephen King s
famous novel, due to the realism and player emersion that the game provides. The Last of Us puts the
dystopian society into the hands of anyone that can hold a controller, yet still provides a meaningful
plot with character development to bout. The length of the game in itself is an effective way to
persuade the player of its meaning, and the dangers of a potential future. For the average player, it can
take anywhere from 15 to 30 hours of playing time to complete the storyline for The Last of Us,
constantly driving home the nature of the dystopian society. The fact that The Last of Us is a video
game too makes it much more accessible and appealing to the younger generations. While Stephen
King is a legendary author in his own right, it can be intimidating for someone to read one of his
novels. Along with this comes the general growth of technology, and the fact that paperbacks are soon
becoming irrelevant. The dramatic increase in technology makes a video game much more likely to
get selected over a novel for leisure, regardless of the topic that each chooses to address. This is what
makes The Last of Us a more realistic option for the spreading awareness of

George Orwell Use Of Conformity In 1984
A rebel is a person who rises in opposition against an established government; a person who refuses
allegiance to and resists a ruling party. Every society s set of rules and regulations evokes the inner
insurgent of a minority; George Orwell s dystopia demonstrates the execution of pursuing ones
rebellious tendencies and the unconscious destruction that follows. In George Orwell s 1984, Orwell
juxtaposes rebellion and conformity by using various techniques. The portrayal of London, the Prole
District and the Golden Country, the contrast between the Parson s family unit and Winston s
relationship with Julia along with the depiction of mind versus body are all ways in which Orwell
chooses to analogize rebellion and conformity.
Within Orwell s dystopia, London, the Golden Country and the Prole District play large roles in the
way Winston and Julia not only act, but also speak of themselves and the Inner Party. London is a
concrete jungle where, ...there seemed to be no colour in anything except the posters that were
plastered everywhere. (Orwell 2). London is a setting of pure conformity; within London, Winston and
Julia are confined to the strict policies bestowed upon them by the inner party. Winston is in a constant

Operating Systems And Operating System
Operating Systems Every computer needs an operating system to operate. The operating system
controls everything that the computer does, the master controller. It is the gasoline of the computer.
According to Parsons and Oja (2014), they state that an operating system is the integral part of
virtually every computer system. It fundamentally affects how you can use your computer (p 184).
Most computers are bought with the operating system already installed. Once the computer is turned
on, the operating system does a check of the system, which includes the hardware of peripheral
devices attached. Once the check is complete, the operating system is loaded into the ROM of the
computer. There are several different operating systems that can run a computer system. Just like
software, the operating system has been upgraded to perfection over the years. Back in the earlier
years of computers, there was only one operating system. This was the well known , Disk Operating
System, also known as DOS. Looking back, DOS was a complicated operating system. Once a
computer was turned on, you would see a flashing MS DOS:. This was its way of telling you, that it is
ready for its next command. This is when you had to rely on the book. Because it did not provide you
with an on screen list of what you could do from there. You had to specifically type in the command,
of what you wanted to do next. However, the life of the computer changed forever with the birth of

Systems Theory And System Theory
Systems theory sees the system as a set of related components that work together in a particular
environment to perform specific functions that are required of them to achieve the system s objective
(Walker, 2012). Most people are part of a variety of systems and subsystems. For example, a family is
seen as a system in itself but each member of the family may have different subsystems, such as their
peers, education, job, recreational activities, etc. and all of these subsystems play a role in the
functioning of the system being examined. Applied theorists of systems theory see the system as goal
seeking and when they discuss a problem within the system, it doesn t necessarily mean that
something is wrong but rather that the situation needs to be better understood and a solution to be
found and implemented for the system to continue operating smoothly (2012).
The social worker has decided to utilize systems theory approach when working with the Brown
family. The social worker finds it extremely important to look at this family as a system of individual
working together and believes that the family as a whole cannot be completely understood without
looking at how the individuals work together and getting a grasp on their dynamic. Each member of
the family has designated roles and are expected to respond to each other in certain ways. The changes
in these roles may cause dysfunction in the family system. In order to determine the roles played by
different individuals in the

disappointed in Catherine and tells her to go pray. His treatment of her only hardens her and gives her
more pleasure in showing off her power over Heathcliff. 16. Thrushcross Grange has a more civilized
nature than Wuthering Heights. Wuthering Heights is personified by storms, stunted plants, and
characters that cannot fulfill their own passions with ease. Thrushcross Grange is more enclosed and is
not as much exposed to the bitter winds. Gardens and flowers are illustrated in reference to the
Grange, and this evokes a sense of optimism and beauty. The Grange is also more associated with
money and the material world than is Wuthering Heights, which is more connected to nature.
Thrushcross Grange protects the Linton family from Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights itself.
Chapter 7 17. When Catherine Earnshaw returns to Wuthering Heights, she is more dignified, well
behaved, and dresses better. She is altogether more refined. 18.

Physiographic Contrasts Between Australia and New Zealand
1. Describe the physiographic contrasts between Australia and New Zealand. In other words, how are
the two countries geographically different?
Australia is a vast, dry, low relief interior, while the island of New Zealand is mountainous with a
temperate climate. Australia is one of the oldest rock on the planet, situated in the center of the
Australian Plate. New Zealand is younger, therefore less stable because of it location along the Ring of
Fire, having plenty of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, however, Australia has neither of these
phenomenas. The elevation differences is considerable, as Australia s highest point, Mount Kosciosko
is lower than the entire elevation of New Zealand, with its high point at Mount Cook. Along Australia
s low relief region there are plateaus, plains, and the Great Artesian Basin provides essential water to
the desert country. In the southern half of Australia were are predominant river systems, which
contains mineral wealth. Australia s physiographic benefits the country, while New Zealand see it as
obstacles, and while they both are surrounded by oceans from every angle, these two countries vary in
many ways governmental, economically, and socially.
2. In what ways is the huge Southern Ocean different or unique?
The Southern Ocean is only viewed once you turn the globe upside down, placing Australia and
Argentina at the top of the globe. Viewing the globe upside down allows us to see the vast ocean that

Parallels Between the United States of America and Canada
There are many parallel between the United States of America and Canada. For instance they were
both former possessions of the British crown, they speak mostly English, and they both had to deal
with Native Americans. But one important difference is how they treated their native population
during Western expansion. The Americans treated the Natives Americans like they were below them.
The made treaties with the natives only to ultimately break them, the engaged in open war with the
natives, and generally didn t respect them. While, in direct contrast, the Canadians honored treaties,
generally did not engage in war with the natives, and respected them as individuals. According to
Keith Walden, who is a history professor at Trent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another important factor during Western expansion was the role of the American sheriff. This person
was responsible for upholding the law and keeping order. The sheriff was sometimes elected but more
often than not he was put into place by the elite who were in charge of the local municipality. This
often led to incompetence and corruption. Consequently, this meant that Indian relations suffered.
Indians were not treated with the respect that they deserved, and were often taken advantage of. On
the other side of the 49th parallel this was a vastly different story. In Canada the North West Mounted
Police, a British tradition, and former Indian relations seemed to be the major reasons that the Indians
were treated differently. The North West Mounted Police, or the Mounties, had a similar role to that of
the American Sheriff. They were in charge of maintaining law and order, but they were also
responsible in maintain the border between the United States and Canada. This was a physical
geographic border, but also a border, or different identity, between what it meant to be Canadian and
what it meant to be American. A big portion of this was the way that the Mounties treated the Indian
population. The respected the Indians as humans. Meaning that they honored formally signed treaties
made with the Indians, and treated the Indians with respect; not as pawns in the way of Manifest
Destiny. But they also asserted Canadian law

An Analysis Of David Heyman And The Harry Potter Film...
David Heyman and the Harry Potter Film Franchise
FTV 434
Taylor Grewe
December 11, 2013 The role of a producer in the filmmaking process involves financial and technical
responsibilities, as well as creative responsibilities. As the industry evolved, producers were typically
associated with the financial and technical side of filmmaking, more so than the creative side.
However, in the last three decades, more and more producers are being recognized for their creative
involvement (Pardo 2). In 1997, David Heyman, a British film producer, discovered the book Harry
Potter and the Philosopher s Stone by J.K. Rowling (McNary). Almost immediately, Heyman began
working to secure the film rights, having no idea that he was embarking on a project that, according to
IMDb, would become the highest grossing film franchise in history (IMDb). His creative involvement,
on the production of the films, stems from the fact that he truly loves the Harry Potter book series. The
success of the franchise had much to do with what can be referred to as the Potter formula : Heyman s
direct involvement in the novel to film adaption process, his decision to work with a team of Potter
fans, many of which returned to work on all 8 installments, and his careful selection of directors who
shared his vision. This Potter Unit of returning cast and crew members included writer Steve Kloves,
production designer Stuart Craig, the majority of cast members, as well as many more. Having

Bartleby the Autistic Scrivener Essay
Herman Melville s short story Bartleby the Scrivener is about a lawyer who hires a copyist, named
Bartleby, who politely refuses to not work. While most employers would not tolerate an employee
who continually prefers to do less work, this lawyer finds it hard to dismiss or discipline his scrivener
and allows his insubordination to go on for an extended period of time. Bartleby shows great
acquisition at copying documents and works diligently all day and night. The lawyer soon discovers

Bartleby exhibits strong similarities with patients diagnosed as autistic in today s medical community.
Bartleby demonstrates the ability to work well when given strict structural guidelines. A main job of
the scrivener is to copy documents. Upon hiring Bartleby, the lawyer states he did an extraordinary
quantity of writing but it was done silently, palely, mechanically (Melville 2368). Studies have shown
that adults with autism possess the ability to be self sufficient members of society given certain
circumstances. Even though they may lack street smarts, they are capable of attaining their
independence by choosing highly structured and regimented life routines (Klin 345). Copying
documents is a highly structured occupation and requires no need for logical or interpretative skills,
which is why he can do this job so well. Not much is known about Bartleby s previous employment,
except that it is rumored that he worked for the dead letter office for the United States Postal Service.
The dead letter office is where the undeliverable and nonreturnable mail is sent to either be destroyed
or sold at auction. Again, this form of employment would appear to be highly structural and would not
require dianoetic or analytical skills. However, when asked to do other things around the office, even

Comparing Which Pinter And Larkin Show The Pressures Of...
Compare and contrast the ways in which Pinter and Larkin show the pressures of modern life on the

In both The Caretaker and Larkin s Collected Poems, Pinter and Larkin frequently paint their
characters to live in a relentless state of fear and anguish caused often by the pressures of the external
world. In this critical understanding of both writers, I will explore how the variations of pressures
from modern life effecting and potentially harming individuals. The Caretaker and Collected Poems
were both written in the 1960 s. The Swinging Sixties was a revolutionary time, with the introduction

the same saucer souvenir . Both men share the same dismal habits showing negligence they have for
their futures. The concept of self induced entrapment within a safe sanctuary is brought upon both
characters, showing no real desire to expand to the exterior world. In comparison, Aston in The
Caretaker resides in a safe sanctuary of his home and loyalty of the shed concept. As a victim of
electrotherapy, Aston is scared from the dangers of society s pressures on him, so he constantly keeps
himself busy with trivial tasks to keep his mind at rest. Pinter s stage directions support Aston anxious
habits, Aston crosses to the plug box to get another plug during one of Davies excessively bogus
stories, then later goes back to the bed just to fidget with the new plug. Critic here supporting Aston s

nature , as for Mr Bleaney who lived in trepidation of existence beyond his measly flat, has wasted his
life. The speaker reflects,

Zora Neale Hurston Spunk Essay
Throughout history, everyone in the world has had to stick up for themselves at one point, no matter

the importance of sticking up for yourself. It was only the third short story Hurston wrote, but it

Mythology In Fan Mythology
The definition of the term Myth is that it is defined by its content, context, and/or its function. Most
often when we think or hear the world myth we think of ancient Greek and Roman stories that tell us
tales of gods, heroes, and monsters; in the modern world it is also used to butter up advertisements,
and of course in fan fiction.
When you look at the concept of myth it has been important to the practice and analysis of fan work,
including fan fiction, on three levels: content, form, and theory. In terms of content, traditional tales
including mythologies provide us with characters, narratives, monsters, and story worlds for fans to

Instead, mass culture is a method of cultural control, a key part of the workings of capitalist
domination.
However, there is a strong distinction between mass and popular culture that seems to be no longer
defensible to most media scholars and cultural critics, studies of fan creations such as fanfiction have
shown us just how entwined certain popular forms are with mass culture. Describing the texts of
popular culture as myths then becomes a way of claiming profitable culture as common culture and
the basis for a genuine fan culture that exists outside capitalist networks of production, distribution,
and consumption.

Disadvantages Of A Space Elevator
Ticket to the Stars
It was first written about in the Bible as the Tower of Babel, long before any scientist thought about or
came up with the idea to invent an elevator to take trips out of this world, instead of mentioning an
elevator of course it was described as building a tower so high it would reach to the heavens.
However, today that story is now almost a reality. With novels, such as that written by Arthur C.
Clarke with the idea of a ride that would glide you into space. It made the idea to many scientists of a
way for a space elevator to be created. A space elevator can be compared to a regular elevator, the
difference you might ask is the space elevator travels up to space into gravity that is different from the
earth atmosphere. NASA, scientists, and many private industries are all interested in creating this
elevator for many purposes. A space elevator can create space traveling for tourist, also it can be used
as a transportation device for material for astronauts and scientists in space. But the cost of building
such an out of this world invention is pricey with its advantages and disadvantages. The elevator is
very hard and complex to build, but if one explains how it works you would think it was rather simple.
The outside of the elevator is made up of strong materials including steel and uses electricity and other
components to be move up and down. But a space elevator utilizes very strong material that will

Pandora s Box
Pandora s Box and King Midas and the Golden Touch both share a similar theme. The theme is don t

In Pandora s Box and King Midas and the Golden Touch , they both have strong foreshadowing to
introduce the same topic. In one paragraph of Pandora s Box , it says, But with the passing of time she
could not help wondering what it might contain. This foreshadows that she might open the box up,
because of her curiosity. She already has so many great things like beauty, love and wiseness, so why

before choosing what he wants as his reward, the narrator says Midas, who wasn t much given to

the thrill of beating your personal record whether it is in a race or in pole vault.

learning others topics then god. People believed that studying the subjects like history, literature and
philosophy would help to understand the problems of humanity. The renaissance was very different
from the middle ages because there were a lot of important people making important discoveries and
producing a lot of very famous artwork. The renaissance was called rebirth because many people
believed that the renaissance was a re discovery of the world. There was a burst of enthusiasm for
learning about everything. Math contributed to learning in many ways, new mathematical thoughts led
to new art techniques. New math theories were also being discovered, and the same math theories that
were discovered are used in schools today. Math was also beneficial to scientist and aided them in
scientific discoveries.
Art can be used to express something thing that words cannot. Math is a big part of art, it can help
make a painting more realistic. Using math to get the painting more proportionate and realistic.
Previously artist drew things that were more important bigger and things that were less important

How Breast Cancer Has Changed My Life
The environment in which you live in will greatly impact your life; People, however, are all impacted
differently. Personally, I know that my life has been changed by many different events throughout my
life. Some events can go unnoticed while some are impossible to miss. Looking back at my life I can
find many events that pushed me in the direction I am traveling in now but one event has changed my
life forever. The death of my aunt Nadia was the most important event in my life and it both made me
who I am today and who I will be in the future. Breast cancer is the development of cancerous tumors
that form in the cells of the breasts. Thirteen years ago, my aunt was one of the victims diagnosed with
stage IV breast cancer. Unfortunately, the disease took her life away and our family, like many others,
fell into the statistics of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was filled with pain, devastation, fear, but also curiosity. I have my entire life, been very interested in
science and medicine. However, this tragic event in my life influenced me the most to pursue a career
in the medical field and become a Cardiothoracic Surgeon. Ever since that day I have gained a strong
desire to acquire knowledge about cancer and many other diseases. After she passed away, at first, I
was only interested in finding a cure for cancer and had only a very narrow view of the science field.
As I entered high school and really began to explore different sciences I found that becoming a doctor
will allow me to not only try to find a cure but to help many other people afflicted with many other
diseases. With my new found sense of direction, I started to deeply explore everything to do with the
medical field. I entered a program at Holy Cross Hospital called The Medical Explorers Program
where the participants learned about careers in the Health Field

Night Decision Making
In today s society, many people are taught the difference between good and bad decisions. But what
truly prevents people from acting on these beliefs if they know what is good and bad? Researchers
such as John Darley, Bibb Latane, Milena Tsvetkova, and Michael Macy have explored this question
through numerous experiments. The first two factors of decision making come from these findings,
the pressures from society and diffusion of responsibility. First hand experiences from a Holocaust
survivor, Elie Wiesel, and from a brave citizen, Tara McCartney, tell of real life instances of another
factor, selfishness. Perhaps by paying close attention to the complications of the human life, we can
understand that people are truly prevented from acting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article Introduction to Bystander Apathy , during the same experiment with the seizure, they
found that the subjects who did not report the seizure seemed more emotionally taxed than those who
did report the seizure. (3) This shows that when the subjects did act on their beliefs they became
emotionally taxed from their own indecision. They felt that they had to make the correct decision
because of what they thought others wanted them to do. In the article The Science of Paying It
Forward in the same study of the bystander effect, researchers also found that when there is already
help being given to a situation, you become a bystander who feels that help is no longer needed. (4)
The reason people do not act in these situations is because they don t think the rest of society would
want them to help. Whether or not that really is the case, an individual still believes it to be true. In
these experiments, the subjects being tested face indecision when deciding whether to act or not. This
comes from how we feel society would want us to act. If we did not have society influencing our
decisions, we would act without

A World Full of Loneliness
In life, everyone wants to have somebody they can call a friend. The unfortunate reality of this is that
at some point in time, almost every person will experience loneliness. Of Mice and Men, by John
Steinbeck, deals with the hardships of two friends who put their belief in a giant pipe dream. The book
follows George and Lennie s troubled and laborious life until their plans go very awry. King of
Hoboes, Arvel Pearson , by Errol Lincoln Uys, is a nonfiction text which overviews Arvel Pearson s
life as a professional hobo. This includes a detailed version of what it was like to be a hobo in the time
period known as the Great Depression and provides an idea of ... Show more content on

Later in the chapter, after the men have talked for a while, Curley s wife enters the bunk too. An
argument takes place following her arrival and Crooks is reduced... to nothing by a threat made by
Curley s wife (Steinbeck 81). This proves to be a reminder to Crooks as to why he should never let
people inside his built up walls. Steinbeck uses this portion of his book to exemplify loneliness; his
main theme of the novel. Crooks begins all alone, befriends someone just this once, but remains lonely
by the end. If Crooks is not threatened and remains a friend of Lennie s, the message this sends would
be very different; however the reality of this situation occurring is unlikely. During the 1930 s, a time
recognized as the Great Depression, almost everyone primarily wants to survive and that left most
people working to earn a stake; friendships are an unimportant matter. In King of Hoboes it mentions
that Arvel Pearson had a partner but it [did not] work out (Uys 47). If one of them makes it onto a
train, but the other one misses it then most likely they will be separated for good. As a hobo, Pearson s
story mentions there [are] nights [he will] get homesick waiting for a train with nobody to talk to (Uys
48). This could be a reason a hobo might attempt to make a friend. The solitude that a hobo faces can
be overwhelming, but traveling with a partner seemingly could solve this problem. The character or
person will make a friend to cope with the

New Negro
The Harlem Renaissance from 1919 to 1930 s was a time for United States to rapidly change,
especially with the rise of the generation we refer to as African Americans today. It was an era of
literature, an era of slavery, and an era that made the biggest impact in the history of United States.
The term Negro refers to someone of the black race or black ancestry and it defines as black in
Spanish and Portuguese. African American scholar Alain Locke defines the New Negro as an
outspoken advocacy of dignity and refusal to the law of Jim Crow racial segregation. Locke
popularized this term during the Harlem Renaissance. Leaders of the past and many people today
object the term because of its long history of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Senator John C. Calhoun sees the positives of slavery, I believe when two races come together which
have different origins, colors, and physical and intellectual characteristics, that slavery is, instead of an
evil, a good, a positive good. I believe that Senator Calhoun is referring to the diversity of United
States, where multiples races get together and share their unique backgrounds. I agree with this
statement because diversity is a huge part of United States and without it, I believe the country wouldn
t be as successful as it is today. Dr. Martin Luther King states, Anyone who lives in the United States
can never be considered an outsider anywhere in this country. He has a similar opinion as Senator
Calhoun. Both leaders believe that U.S. should welcome any race with equality and should be
considered officially a part of

Creon In Sophocles Oedipus The King
Oedipus the King is a play that was written by Sophocles around 430 B.C and was performed during
the decline of Athens, shortly after a plague took its course (Kirszner 1466). A main character in this
play is Creon who is portrayed as honest, up front, and even tempered. Creon is the brother of Oedipus
s wife and practically has all the status of a king, without the stress of ruling. This essay is a character
analysis of Creon and how his attributes make him a great ruler. One of Creon s greatest attributes is
his reasonable nature. This quality that is portrayed through his speech is shown during his encounter
with Oedipus where he is accused of conspiracy. He calmly explains to Oedipus that he does not want
the anxieties of being king to untroubled sleep if he has equal power (Sophocles 590 591). Here Creon
is trying to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Creon keeps his even temper when Oedipus does not. The first occasion in which Creon proves that he
is the voice of reason is when he suggests that he and Oedipus discuss what he had heard from the god
(91 92). He tries to subtly convince Oedipus that they resume the conversation indoors but Oedipus
wants to discuss it out in the public. This public occurrence proves that Creon tries not to expose
information randomly to the public and would rather discuss issues privately. Another part of the play
where Creon shows that he is calm and reasonable is when he coolly revokes any accusations that
Oedipus puts forth and remains calm while Oedipus is throwing false claims at him. When Oedipus
proclaims out loud to Creon that he is the traitor and traitors should be punished, he refutes the
statement by agreeing with it. Creon states that what Oedipus is saying is perfectly just (558 59) but
entirely wrong. He reasons with Oedipus by putting forth the fact that he has equivalent status to a
king and it would make no sense to try to steal the crown or commit a

The short story s focus is the difference between nationalities, their culture and one s individual rights in regards to skin color and social rank. The story takes place in Nigeria. After a little research , one will see that Nigeria is a former British colony. The fact that it is a former colony plays a significant role, because of the texts theme mentioned above. Mr. Ugwu used to live with his family in Lagos, but some changes in Mr. Ugwu s work forced them to move out into the bush. Mrs. Ugwu is very much against it as the life they lived in Lagos was good. The mob trampling all over the garden is an important symbol. At this point status does not mean anything to the workers, so to show their anger and frustration they destroy the garden. • 6. Child Abusers And Children And Adults All Over The World Child abusers coexist with children and adults all over the world, but this does not necessarily have to be public knowledge. People in support of child abusers having public records often feel their children are safer with this knowledge, allowing them to determine where to live and raise their children. Others argue these public records are a violation of rights dictated within the Constitution and abusers should be allowed to maintain their privacy regardless of their crime. Both sides advocate for the rights of either the abuser or the child to ensure protection. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sexual abuse involving children is defined as, any completed or attempted (noncompleted) sexual act, sexual contact with, or exploitation (i.e. noncontact sexual interaction) of a child with a caregiver (Murray, Nguyen, and Cohen, 322). Although varying opinions exist about the functioning definition of child sexual abuse, the debate over the controversy of child abuser s identities is typically discussed based on this definition. This ongoing debate revolves around the question as to whether or not the public should know the identities of those convicted of child sexual abuse and how much information should be made public based on the individual offender s case. Currently, a child sexual abuser s personal information such as, the offender s name, address, offense, place of employment or schooling, and license plate number, along with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cause of elder abuse is multifaceted. Generally, a combination of psychological, social, and economic factors, as well as mental and physical conditions of the victim and perpetrator contribute to the occurrence of elder abuse Wagner, Greenberg, Capezuti, 2002 as cited on (Fulmer Greenberg, 2012). In the developing world family members provide 60% to 80% of long term care of their elderly significant others (American Psychological Association, 2012). Consequently, the burden of providing constant physical care needs such as toileting and bathing can be particularly stressful. The complexity of providing care to a physically, cognitively or emotionally impaired elderly individual can also be tremendous. Depression, confusion, Alzheimer s disease, or incontinence on the part of the aging person can make care giving especially overwhelming ((American Psychological Association, 2012). According to American Psychological Association (2006), in addition to providing in average 20 hours a week at home on care giving responsibilities, about 64% of those family caregivers work either part time or full time out side of home. As a result, the caregivers often suffer from interrupted sleep, chronic fatigue, little or no privacy, and disintegrating personal lives. (National Center for Elder Abuse, 2011). Furthermore, abuse can often escalates when the care giver faces economic hardships, such as unable to pay the cost of health care services for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis of ‘Patterns’ Written by Amy Lowell Essay Amy Lowell is an American imagist poet who uses descriptive language to create specific images in a readers mind. Set in the Victorian era (1800 s,) the dramatic monologue Patterns explores the restrictions of unmarried women in society and the desire for freedom. My view of these issues is that of a feminist reader living in a democratic modern day society, where men and women live in a state of equality and have the right to express their opinions. A feminist reading focuses on the specific treatment of women. Through Lowell s wondrous use of the poetic techniques, primarily visual imagery (symbolism, repetition, contrasts) and poetic voice (persona and tone,) a modern day feminist reader s negative views of the restricted lifestyles ... This develops the idea that her future with this man as a married woman provided a stable lifestyle where she would not have to live by the rigid patterns of society, reinforcing a modern day feminist reader s view of the expectations and restrictions placed on unmarried women during the Victorian era. There is a distinct contrast between appearance and reality, which works to reinforce the idea of confining individualistic behaviours to retain the pattern of society. In stanza two, she says that tripping by in high heeled, ribboned shoes/ (there is) not a softness anywhere about (her) (lines 16 and 17) when she s wearing only whalebone and brocade (line 18.) The term whalebone refers to a whalebone corset, which is a very hard material that is restrictive to movement. By describing her actions as tripping, a modern day feminist reader is reinforced that she is not coping in her current lifestyle where she is limited to living in a strict manner. In the next stanza, she says that underneath (her) stiffened gown/ Is the softness of a woman (lines 32 and 33.) This develops the idea that the way she dresses is a deceiving appearance, because she is not as stiff and stable on the inside as she comes across on the outside. Deep down she is soft and sad, in mourning of the loss of her lover, yet she cannot express these emotions due to the expectations and restrictions of women during the Victorian era. ... • 12. The Last Of The Mohicans Movie Essay In the time of the 7 years war, is the timeframe which The last of the Mohicans was written in and then later, made into a film based on the novel. I will be describing the plot, both the historical accuracies and inaccuracies, the film themes, and my opinion of the acting, all on the 1992 film. I was completely impressed with this film. Not having read the book I cannot compare the two, however I can compare what I saw with actual events from that time and what I saw. The plot of this film starts out in 1757, the American colonies are in the middle of the third year of the French and Indian War. This war was comprised of English and French soldiers fighting for the possession of the continent. It starts out with this quote in the beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All great parts of the story, yes, however, if you were watching The Last of the Mohicans purely for historical purposes and to find out things about the war, you wouldn t learn much. Yes, the movie (and the book as well I m sure), does depict for the most part of what I could tell, everything accurately. It is the point of it not showing enough about this huge event in our history. How did the war get started? Who won the war? What all tribes and alliances aided both sides? There are a lot of left out details, unfortunately, which makes it hard to follow the details of the French and Indian war. For example, the fight between Magua and his Indians against Munroe and the English was quite a bit less violent than what is led to believe. Not to forget, we are not shown the reaction of Montcalm in finding out his Huron Indians disobeyed him in letting the English go safely. Also, the deepest inaccuracies I do believe come from what the book had written and what the movie chose to tell us. Those things aside though, it is a marvelous film. Yes, there are some inaccuracies in this film and probably even in the book, however, for a Hollywood production, I think they outdid themselves (did amazing). • 15. Essay On A Systems Approach In today s economic and industrial environment, a systems approach to the design and operation of manufacturing and supply is more important than ever. Do you agree with this statement, and why? When a great idea is created, starting up the business isn t as easy as buying some real estate, hiring some people, and telling them what to do. A systems approach to how the company is going to be designed and operated must be created and constantly reanalyzed. A system is a design that takes in inputs and produces outputs. To create a system, the first situation needs to be looked at and a purpose or nature must be identified. Next, a list of everything that will be going into the pizza restaurant must be created and labeled as inputs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that in todays economical and industrial environment, a systems approach is increasingly important. A working system can help a company run smoothly and efficiently. An example of a successful system is Walmart and their renowned supply chain system. A failed system is the reaction to the Katrina disaster management which is still having a lasting effect along the Gulf coast. Today, Walmart is a superstore empire with 11500 retail units in 28 counties and employs 2.3 million workers. To reach this success, Walmart has mastered their supply chain management strategy and system that has allowed them to cut costs and allow consumers to save money. One technique that Walmart uses is to have fewer links in the supply chain. Walmart started working directly with the manufactures to save money and be able to have more control over its supply chain. They used a method called Vendor Managed Inventory which made manufactures responsible for managing Walmart s orders and keeping them in stock from them inside Walmart s warehouse. [2] Walmart only sought out strategic vendor partnerships. Walmart would only buy from suppliers who had the best price and were in a position to meet demand. They then negotiated lower prices by offering to order from them long term and to make high volume purchases. Walmart then created communication and relationship networks with the suppliers which allowed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Dystopian Society Many novels, as well as video games, deal with texts of the dystopic genre. Dystopia has become an instrumental form of literature in all countries; however, some texts are better at relaying their message than others. For example, in the video game, The Last of Us, the two protagonists, one adult male and one young girl, fight through hordes of the infected . They do so in order to save mankind from utter extinction. Despite being a video game, this text captures the quintessential elements needed in order to become a relatable piece of work and does so by making both Joel and Ellie (the protagonists) truthful characters. In addition to The Last of Us, the novel The Running Man, by Steven King, also deals with the topic of dystopia. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He soon approaches what looks like an injured man; however, the man was not injured and attempts to kill Joel and Ellie to steal his truck. This is a prime example of the modified human nature present in dystopian societies. In an attempt to preserve what human kindness Joel has left , he ends up in a situation much like that of Richards in The Running Man, creating a similarity in the two story arcs. The use of cliché as a rhetoric device is present in both Richards, and Joel and Eli s lives, and serves as one of the reasons why both story arcs hold the attention of the player/reader. However, The Last of Us serves as a much more relatable situation for the player than that of the reader of Stephen King s famous novel, due to the realism and player emersion that the game provides. The Last of Us puts the dystopian society into the hands of anyone that can hold a controller, yet still provides a meaningful plot with character development to bout. The length of the game in itself is an effective way to persuade the player of its meaning, and the dangers of a potential future. For the average player, it can take anywhere from 15 to 30 hours of playing time to complete the storyline for The Last of Us, constantly driving home the nature of the dystopian society. The fact that The Last of Us is a video game too makes it much more accessible and appealing to the younger generations. While Stephen King is a legendary author in his own right, it can be intimidating for someone to read one of his novels. Along with this comes the general growth of technology, and the fact that paperbacks are soon becoming irrelevant. The dramatic increase in technology makes a video game much more likely to get selected over a novel for leisure, regardless of the topic that each chooses to address. This is what makes The Last of Us a more realistic option for the spreading awareness of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. George Orwell Use Of Conformity In 1984 A rebel is a person who rises in opposition against an established government; a person who refuses allegiance to and resists a ruling party. Every society s set of rules and regulations evokes the inner insurgent of a minority; George Orwell s dystopia demonstrates the execution of pursuing ones rebellious tendencies and the unconscious destruction that follows. In George Orwell s 1984, Orwell juxtaposes rebellion and conformity by using various techniques. The portrayal of London, the Prole District and the Golden Country, the contrast between the Parson s family unit and Winston s relationship with Julia along with the depiction of mind versus body are all ways in which Orwell chooses to analogize rebellion and conformity. The operating system controls everything that the computer does, the master controller. It is the gasoline of the computer. According to Parsons and Oja (2014), they state that an operating system is the integral part of virtually every computer system. It fundamentally affects how you can use your computer (p 184). Most computers are bought with the operating system already installed. Once the computer is turned on, the operating system does a check of the system, which includes the hardware of peripheral devices attached. Once the check is complete, the operating system is loaded into the ROM of the computer. There are several different operating systems that can run a computer system. Just like software, the operating system has been upgraded to perfection over the years. Back in the earlier years of computers, there was only one operating system. This was the well known , Disk Operating System, also known as DOS. Looking back, DOS was a complicated operating system. Once a computer was turned on, you would see a flashing MS DOS:. This was its way of telling you, that it is ready for its next command. This is when you had to rely on the book. Because it did not provide you with an on screen list of what you could do from there. You had to specifically type in the command, of what you wanted to do next. • 19. Systems Theory And System Theory Systems theory sees the system as a set of related components that work together in a particular environment to perform specific functions that are required of them to achieve the system s objective (Walker, 2012). Most people are part of a variety of systems and subsystems. For example, a family is seen as a system in itself but each member of the family may have different subsystems, such as their peers, education, job, recreational activities, etc. and all of these subsystems play a role in the functioning of the system being examined. Applied theorists of systems theory see the system as goal seeking and when they discuss a problem within the system, it doesn t necessarily mean that something is wrong but rather that the situation needs to be better understood and a solution to be found and implemented for the system to continue operating smoothly (2012). The social worker has decided to utilize systems theory approach when working with the Brown family. The social worker finds it extremely important to look at this family as a system of individual working together and believes that the family as a whole cannot be completely understood without looking at how the individuals work together and getting a grasp on their dynamic. Each member of the family has designated roles and are expected to respond to each other in certain ways. The changes in these roles may cause dysfunction in the family system. This person was responsible for upholding the law and keeping order. The sheriff was sometimes elected but more often than not he was put into place by the elite who were in charge of the local municipality. This often led to incompetence and corruption. Consequently, this meant that Indian relations suffered. Indians were not treated with the respect that they deserved, and were often taken advantage of. On the other side of the 49th parallel this was a vastly different story. In Canada the North West Mounted Police, a British tradition, and former Indian relations seemed to be the major reasons that the Indians were treated differently. David Heyman and the Harry Potter Film Franchise FTV 434 Taylor Grewe December 11, 2013 The role of a producer in the filmmaking process involves financial and technical responsibilities, as well as creative responsibilities. As the industry evolved, producers were typically associated with the financial and technical side of filmmaking, more so than the creative side. However, in the last three decades, more and more producers are being recognized for their creative involvement (Pardo 2). In 1997, David Heyman, a British film producer, discovered the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone by J.K. Rowling (McNary). Almost immediately, Heyman began working to secure the film rights, having no idea that he was embarking on a project that, according to IMDb, would become the highest grossing film franchise in history (IMDb). His creative involvement, on the production of the films, stems from the fact that he truly loves the Harry Potter book series. The success of the franchise had much to do with what can be referred to as the Potter formula : Heyman s direct involvement in the novel to film adaption process, his decision to work with a team of Potter fans, many of which returned to work on all 8 installments, and his careful selection of directors who shared his vision. • 38. Pandora s Box Pandora s Box and King Midas and the Golden Touch both share a similar theme. The theme is don t be greedy, instead be happy with what you have already have. Both myths use story elements like foreshadowing, indirect and direct characterization, and imagery to communicate the theme. In Pandora s Box and King Midas and the Golden Touch , they both have strong foreshadowing to introduce the same topic. In one paragraph of Pandora s Box , it says, But with the passing of time she could not help wondering what it might contain. This foreshadows that she might open the box up, because of her curiosity. She already has so many great things like beauty, love and wiseness, so why open the box? In the end, it ends up being something horrid. In King Midas and the Golden Touch , before choosing what he wants as his reward, the narrator says Midas, who wasn t much given to thought, didn t have to think twice or even once. He was already rich, but why not be richer? This showed me that he was going to ask for something that would make him even richer, which turned out to be the touch of gold. • 39. My Passion In Sports My passion is playing sports. I have always been athletic as I grew up playing all different types of sports. I did gymnastics, basketball, and I continue to play on multiple soccer teams. However ,I have become a lot more passionate about track and field. Track and field is more of a laid back sport compared to others as it goes on in an order of events. The events I participate in are various sprinting events and the pole vault. Pole vault is my favorite of the two events because there are not many people who compete and it is like a little family amongst competitors. My teammates and I have a lot of fun hanging out and cheering each other on. Along with the people I also enjoy the competition and the thrill of beating your personal record whether it is in a race or in pole vault. I pole vaulted for the first time when I was ten years old. My neighbor, who coincidently is the pole vault at the high school, invited my brother, my neighbors and I to try it one day during the summer. I ended up not being horrible at it so when I got to high school I figured I would try it again and see how it went. It went very well. My neighbor who is the pole vault coach is now very old so he is not able to make it to practice very often. The pole vaulters and I do have the head coach of the whole track team assist us from time to time but mostly we all, the four of us that is, critique and help each other reach new heights, literally, when we vault. My teammates are my most constant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Night Decision Making In today s society, many people are taught the difference between good and bad decisions. But what truly prevents people from acting on these beliefs if they know what is good and bad? Researchers such as John Darley, Bibb Latane, Milena Tsvetkova, and Michael Macy have explored this question through numerous experiments. The first two factors of decision making come from these findings, the pressures from society and diffusion of responsibility. First hand experiences from a Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, and from a brave citizen, Tara McCartney, tell of real life instances of another factor, selfishness. In the article The Science of Paying It Forward in the same study of the bystander effect, researchers also found that when there is already help being given to a situation, you become a bystander who feels that help is no longer needed. The unfortunate reality of this is that at some point in time, almost every person will experience loneliness. Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, deals with the hardships of two friends who put their belief in a giant pipe dream. The book follows George and Lennie s troubled and laborious life until their plans go very awry. King of Hoboes, Arvel Pearson , by Errol Lincoln Uys, is a nonfiction text which overviews Arvel Pearson s life as a professional hobo. This proves to be a reminder to Crooks as to why he should never let people inside his built up walls. Steinbeck uses this portion of his book to exemplify loneliness; his main theme of the novel. Crooks begins all alone, befriends someone just this once, but remains lonely by the end. If Crooks is not threatened and remains a friend of Lennie s, the message this sends would be very different; however the reality of this situation occurring is unlikely. During the 1930 s, a time recognized as the Great Depression, almost everyone primarily wants to survive and that left most people working to earn a stake; friendships are an unimportant matter. If one of them makes it onto a train, but the other one misses it then most likely they will be separated for good. As a hobo, Pearson s story mentions there [are] nights [he will] get homesick waiting for a train with nobody to talk to (Uys 48). This could be a reason a hobo might attempt to make a friend. The solitude that a hobo faces can be overwhelming, but traveling with a partner seemingly could solve this problem. The character or person will make a friend to cope with the ... Creon In Sophocles Oedipus The King Oedipus the King is a play that was written by Sophocles around 430 B.C and was performed during the decline of Athens, shortly after a plague took its course (Kirszner 1466). A main character in this play is Creon who is portrayed as honest, up front, and even tempered. Creon is the brother of Oedipus s wife and practically has all the status of a king, without the stress of ruling. This essay is a character analysis of Creon and how his attributes make him a great ruler. One of Creon s greatest attributes is his reasonable nature. This quality that is portrayed through his speech is shown during his encounter with Oedipus where he is accused of conspiracy. This public occurrence proves that Creon tries not to expose information randomly to the public and would rather discuss issues privately. Another part of the play where Creon shows that he is calm and reasonable is when he coolly revokes any accusations that Oedipus puts forth and remains calm while Oedipus is throwing false claims at him. When Oedipus proclaims out loud to Creon that he is the traitor and traitors should be punished, he refutes the statement by agreeing with it.
