Fear Of Manipulating A Spinal Injury
Focusing my attention back on the PL, I moved to check the one place unseen and began removing his
helmet. His head was protected, but tilting his chin back was one thing I didn t want to do for fear of
manipulating a spinal injury. It also is what finally exposed and opened the small hole in his throat
from an apparent piece of shrapnel and he began to bleed profusely. I immediately called the medic
away from one of the less seriously wounded to help me with the bleeding. I packed the wound but
loosely, not wanting to interfere with what was left of his airway and then pulled him up to my lap so I
could maintain pressure on the wound. He was still dying. Running out of options, I checked his
airway again and manipulated his tongue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly thereafter, he regained life signs and consciousness, attempting to sit up even. I called for a
litter and directed he be secured and ready to move, meanwhile contacting the Command Post to
provide a situation report and moving to check on other casualties at the CCP. At this time I had
twelve that needed evacuation and eight more walking wounded. There were barely enough lucid
Soldiers to pull security, but my biggest problem was that the QRF had not arrived yet. Searching for
an improvised solution for the PL who I believed was expectant at this point, I saw an Afghan
National Army truck parked nearby with a driver who seemed as though he was trying to help. I
directed that the PL be loaded onto the back of the pickup truck with two ambulatory Soldiers who
could pull security on both the surroundings and the driver. I sent the medic to monitor his airway. The
interpreter conveyed my directions to the driver to take the Soldiers straight to our Entry Control Point
at the AP, and I instructed the PL s security to take the vehicle by any means necessary if the driver did
not follow directions. Our Platoon Leader was now conscious and responsive, and I told him where he
was going and why. Less than fifteen minutes after the attack, the PL and his fight for life was on his
way to next level care. As the truck pulled off our 3rd Platoon arrived as QRF.
The QRF medic took over where ours had left off. All the casualties were stable and

William Browning And Elizabeth Barrett Browning Essay
The Two Authors Different Perspective Literatures in the Victorian Era
Many authors are influenced by the society, culture, politic and economy during their period.
Therefore, their literary works usually describe the condition of their period directly or indirectly. The
two authors, Roberts Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, also expose the culture and the
condition of the society of the Victorian era through their works. The authors are married couple
authors of the Victorian era. Roberts Browning s a typical literary work is My Last Duchess. Elizabeth
Barrett Browning s one of the most famous work is Aurora Leigh. In the two poems, the authors
mainly focus on the different gender roles. Even though the two Victorian era literatures, Aurora Leigh
and My Last Duchess, demonstrate the social issue, which is a sexual discrimination during the
Victorian era, each author emphasizes the seriousness of the issue by using different perspectives on
women s roles and positions. My Last Duchess, which was written by Roberts browning demonstrates
the horrible condition of the Victorian society by exposing the author s perspective on the genders role
in the Victorian era. The book, the literature of the Victorian era, defines the poem a perfect picture of
cold blooded heartlessness, a thing possible in any age though fortunately (Hugh 427). The poem
clearly shows the dreadful social condition for a woman in the Victorian era. According to the author,

The Enlightenment And Ideas Of The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a time of mathematical, scientific, and philosophical advancement. The
thoughts of philosophers like Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Locke inspired many, such as the Americans.
Their ideas about freedom of religion, civil liberties, free trade, and social reforms became the basis
that the Americans built their new country upon and impacted politics and culture. Due to the
advanced ideas that were emerging from Europe, religious views of the colonists started to alter.
Before enlightenment beliefs spread, the universally accepted theory was that human suffering was
inevitable. However, the new conjecture stated God set the universe in motion and gave humans the
power of reason to enable them to comprehend the orderly and complex

Racist Mascots Research Paper
Native Americans are often offended by racist nicknames, logos, and stereotypes in sports. The
Washington Redskins and many other teams are facing this. this makes teams look ignorant. Mascots
imply that all Natives have to be a dark brown color, have big noses, and long wavy black hair.
Examples of these stereotypical mascots are the Washington Redskins, FSU, Cherokee Braves, and
any other school with a racist mascot. Native Americans find that when we use their people as mascots
we are making them look like savages. Native Americans are offended by racist nicknames, logos, and
stereotypes in sports. Using Native American images and names in professional, collegiate, and high
school sports teams does reinforce and perpetuate stereotypes.

How Does Nathaniel Hawthorne Use Symbols In The Minister s...
The Minister s Black Veil is a short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The setting of the story is a
town in Puritan New England. Much of the story focuses on the black veil. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses
symbolism to teach a lesson in his short story, The Minister s Black Veil .
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s, short story, The Minister s Black Veil uses the the black veil as a symbol of
secret sins. Know, then, this veil is a type and a symbol, and I am bound to it ever, both in light and
darkness.... This proves that the author uses symbolism to teach a lesson because, Mr. Hooper is aware
of his own sins so he uses the black veil as a symbol to keep his sins hidden. Hawthorne also uses the
veil as a representation of the instinctive sinful

A Good Friend
In today s world, many people are backstabbing and downright terrible. A good person, much less a
good friend is hard to find. It may be difficult for one to figure out who their true friends really are,
and in a time of need, one may be left wondering if they have any friends at all. Good friends are
usually found in small groups, maybe even just two people. A good friend is someone who cares about
you and will almost never let you down. To me, a good friend is loyal, is someone you can laugh with,
and is someone who can give you advice. Most importantly, a good friend will be loyal. For example,
a good friend might put their best friend at the top of their priority list when it comes to spending time
with them. A few weeks ago my best friend Makenzie invited me to go spend the day with her and her
family at Clarkco State Park where they were camping. Although I had already made plans to go on a
date with my boyfriend that day, I decided to cancel the plans with him in favor of spending time with
Makenzie. Best day ever in my opinion. On the contrary, a good friend will not go behind their friends
back. Even Though two best friends may not agree with each other every once in awhile, they will
never talk badly about them or share their friend s secrets. Obviously, the most important defining
quality of a good friend is their loyalty. Additionally, a good friend is someone who can laugh with
you. I personally am very clumsy, and my best friend definitely knows that. The

Abstract The utilization of PC systems for information transmissions has made the need of security.
The security of this intuitive media data should be possible with encryption or information concealing
calculations. To diminish the transmission time, the information pressure is necessary. Since couple of
years, an issue is to attempt to join pressure, encryption and information covering up in a solitary
stride. Picture security turns out to be progressively critical for some applications, e.g., secret
transmission, video reconnaissance, military and therapeutic applications. These days, the
transmission of pictures is an every day routine and it is important to locate a proficient approach to
transmit them over systems. They send Secret message over channel utilizing Cryptography and
Steganography calculations by AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). It is utilized to scramble the
information from plain content to figure content the other way around. There are two sorts of keys
accessible in the cryptography, symmetric and asymmetric. There are utilizing symmetric key which is
separated into two key, for example, private and open key. Open key is utilized for encryption and
private key is utilized for decoding. The reversible information concealing method is utilized to

Greek Culture And Greco-Roman Culture
Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange of the Greeks and Romans
The Romans explored, encountered, and exchanged cultural ideas, art forms and conventions,
religious ideas, and inventions with the Greeks. Because the Romans explored further and encountered
the Greeks, Greco Roman culture was eventually formed. The exploration and trade between different
societies is imperative to cultural growth, and the Romans are an example of a society that achieved
just that. One of Rome s first encounters with the Greeks occurred when Roman rule expanded further
into the Mediterranean during the Pax Romana, a time of peace that the Roman military force
experienced, right before the beginning of the the crisis of the third century. Greeks and Greek ...

Unsolved Murder Case Summary
The case selected for this paper is that of the unsolved murders of a family of eight in Pike County,
Ohio on April 22, 2016. Eight members of the Rhoden family were found shot in the head, execution
style, at four separate crime scenes, also found at the crime scenes were three small children; a four
day old newborn baby, a six month old and a three year old, all three children were unharmed
(Valencia, 2017). Per news reports, seven of the eight victims were in three homes while the eighth
victim was found in a fourth home with the unharmed newborn baby (Valencia, 2017). The murders
occurred during the night with all eight victims being murdered in their beds as they slept. The victims

Deductive reasoning draws from specific conclusions of general principles (Bartol Bartol, 2010).
Arrival at the crime scene and drawing theories from the scene would be the initial step of deductive
analysis. Forming a hypothesis from theories drawn at the scenes would follow. The hypothesis here
is; there are many aspects of this crime and unknown suspects that are obvious such as the
sophistication of the attacks and the fact that the young children were spared, this alone aligns with
criminals who are experienced and have a clear method of what they do. Observation of the multiple
crime scenes and the way in which the family was killed leads to, this act of violence against this
family showing as being business related and not personal. This is based on the fact that the victims
were shot execution style while sleeping in their beds (Valencia, 2017). It is possible the marijuana
grow operations are connected in some way to the killings. Due to there being more than one crime
scene within close proximity to each other, there may be multiple assailants in this crime. The
hypothesis drawn in this case can only be confirmed after an arrest of a suspect is made, this case

Coca Cola And The Carbonated Soft Drink
Question 1:
Both Coca Cola and Pepsi originally operated primarily in the carbonated soft drink (CSD) industry,
but have started to expand into other relatively similar markets, such as beverages that are non
carbonated.
The soft drink industry during the time of this case is changing rapidly and forcing powerhouse
carbonated soft drink companies like Coca Cola and Pepsi to find new ways to adapt and compete
with the rise of non carbonated drinks and healthy drink alternatives. Below we will break down the
industry using Porter s five forces and discuss why we believe it is an attractive industry in which to
do business.

12). Therefore, we consider the bargaining power of suppliers in this industry to be low.
Bargaining Power of Buyers
Supermarkets, fountain outlets, and mass merchandisers account for more than half of the distribution
of CSDs in the United States (pg. 4). Competition for shelf space is very intense so it s important for
bottlers to fight to ensure their product has good visibility (pg. 4). With the Master Bottle Contract,
both Coke and Pepsi were able to determine many terms of the contracts it had with its bottlers
including pricing and other conditions (pg. 3) giving them more power. Both companies also retained
deals with fast food restaurants to serve only their products to its customers (pg. 4). It should also be
noted that buyers switching costs to competing brands and substitute products are low. End user
buying demand for CSDs also dropped in the United States, causing Coke and Pepsi to search abroad
for new business opportunities (pg. 11). Even though the end user may have more buying power, we
believe that the bargaining power of buyers such as bottlers and many retail channels is low.
Threat of Substitutes
When it comes to the many different types and brands of beverages available to purchase, there are a
vast assortment of available substitutes in relation to CSDs as shown in Exhibit 7 (pg. 18). Another
concern for CSDs is the link between its consumption and health issues like obesity and nutritional
value (pg. 9). Also, schools throughout the U.S.

Sibling A
Listening is an essential part of dialogue. If properly exercise, it allows us to absorb information
within messages and exchange thoroughly processed feedback. This exchange offers an effective
communication between parties. The lack of effective listening results in miscommunication,
unessential dialogue and a waste of resources. Here we will discuss the relationship between siblings.
The siblings in this case have a long distance relationship. Sibling A is married with no children and

that they are fully engaged. In addition, the listener should refrain from interrupting the speaker until
they have completed their message. The listener should keep in mind the rule of replying to statements
before changing the subject (Verderber, K. S., Verderber, R. F. 2013, pg. 213 214). In addition, Dr.
Passmore recommends for Empathetic Listening , that the listener reflect the emotion or perceived
emotion to the speaker so that they genuinely feel that the listener is listening (2014). Furthermore Dr.
Mc Naughton, adds it is important to let the listener know what resources or help the listener can
provide. Sibling A waits until sibling B is done providing all relevant information. Sibling B then
lowers her voice to demonstrate sensitivity to sibling B s situation. Sibling A let sibling B know that
her feelings are impotant and they are with cause due to the history with her husband. However,
gathering the facts sibling A tells sibling B, her husband has provided for the family since the
separation and she is aware that he is applying for citizenship. Therefore, sibling A recommends
sibling B speak with her husband to clarify what information will specifically be needed for the
documents and sibling A can research how the documents contents can be controlled. Understanding

Difference In Development Of The New England And...
Colonial DBQ
Although New England, primarily Massachusetts, and the Chesapeake region, primarily Virginia,
were largely settled by people of English origins, by 1700 these regions had evolved into two distinct
societies. The difference in development occurred for the following three reasons, the motives of the
settlers, the people that settled there and the geography of the respective regions.
One of the most important differences in development for the New England and Chesapeake regions
was the motives of the settlers. The colonists who founded Massachusetts, the Puritans, a reformist
Christian group, largely settled there for religious reasons. The Puritans, led by John Winthrop, wanted
to create a model religious community. The central idea of Puritan Massachusetts is summarized by
John Winthrop when he says We must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill. (Doc. A) One of
the most important staples of this community was the idea that God was the focus of life no matter
what. (Doc. E) In contrast, the colonists who established communities in Virginia settled there with

broke out on the ship sailing to the New World. (Doc. F) Bacon s Rebellion in 1676 further
exemplifies the idea that the colonists from Virginia were very selfish. Bacon s Rebellion was the
uprising of the indentured servants in Virginia due to the unfair treatment they received by the
wealthy. Bacon s argument was that the rich elite had made their money at the expense of everyone

The Crossover Quotes
Have you ever felt left out or pushed away from others? In the novel, The Crossover, by Kwame
Alexander. I chose to write about the main character Josh Bell. Josh Bell is a caring, immature and
athletic teen who, through a series of trials comes of age. Josh Bell is caring because in the book it
says, Tell him a joke. He doesn t even smile...Do his chores. He pays no attention...Say I m sorry but
he won t listen (145), this quote shows he is very sorry that he hurt his brother and made him go to the
hospital. In the book it also says, Well, I will talk to her about this job thing, since it means so much to
you. (167), this piece of evidence shows that Josh cares about his father and is even willing to talk to
his mom to convince her to let him take the job. These two quotes show how Josh is a caring teenager.
Josh Bell is also very immature because in the book it says, Today, I plan on passing the ball to JB, but
when I hear him say Filthy, give me the ball, I dribble over to my brother and fire a pass so hard, it
levels him (134), this quote shows that he acted immaturely and without thinking or caring about what
would happen to his brother. In the book it also says, Me and dad stare at each other for ten minutes

JB says. And for the first time in my life I don t want to be. (225), this evidence from the book suggest

Globalization And Its Impact On Modern Society
Since the early 1990 s, the term globalization has become a bit of a buzzword, prevalent in the speech

consistent use has led many people to a certain understanding of it most basic meaning, but it is an
immensely complex concept that can not be truly understood at the top layer of meaning which is
prevalent among general society. There are multiple varying definitions for the globalization

Many people argue that the process of globalization has contributed to a metaphorical flattening of our
world, destroying absolute spatial differentiation. The hyperglobalist economists believe that we have
come to live in a global village society in which is close to the destruction of spatial differentiation

Analysis Of The Movie Rogue One
The primary source that is being analyzed in this paper is a trailer for the upcoming Star Wars film,
Rogue One. It was released in early April by Lucasfilm and Disney. While the actual movie doesn t
drop until December 16, the trailers people have seen so far display quite a lot about the theme,
attitude and how dark the upcoming film will be. These few pages of rhetorical analysis will mainly
focus on how much darker Rogue One will be and how that compares to and changes the previous
films and media. Before getting to deep into the analysis of the trailer, it is important for people who
are not very familiar with the terminology of Star Wars know the basics of the universe. Rogue One
will take place during the third and fourth films. The two main factions are the Rebellion, who are
painted as the true heroes of the movies, and the Empire, who are shown to be an evil regime in the
galaxy. The Empire has constructed a superweapon called the Death Star, which has the firepower to
destroy a planet in one use of its weapon. This weapon is unknown to most of the galaxy, but the
Rebellion knows of its existence. It is also important to distinguish that there are many new characters
to the franchise in this film. First of which is a woman named Jyn Erso. She is given a brief
description in the beginning of the trailer. Mon Mothma describes her as reckless, aggressive, and
undisciplined . In addition to this, Jyn is said to have a fairly long criminal record, including assault

My Personal Leadership Assessments
Upon completion the three leadership assessments, I was surprised to notice several data points which
revealed particular aspects about my leadership style that I had not previously perceived myself to be.
One of these instances was my low balanced processing scores during the Authentic Leadership Self
Questionnaire, which highlighted that I tend to glance over the opinions of others in lieu of my own.
These findings accurately reflect my leadership skills as I tend overestimate my own ways of thinking
and can sometimes ignore others who may provide me with a broader perspective. I plan to apply
these results to grow professionally by taking actions such as actively listening to constructive

One step I plan to take is to recognize that leadership is both an art and a science as it requires more
than simply making the right choice, but also developing a personal leadership style. This is so as the
results revealed that I tended to render decisions based on logic, which may not be the case as not all
business decisions will be black and white choices. Another action I plan to consider is to have a
broader understanding of my professional abilities and take them into consideration at a reasonable
degree. While the results highlighted several of my leadership strengths such as being open to others
and having a positive attitude, I must not take them for granted and assume that I can confront any
challenge despite my prior successes. This is so as my strengths in one field might not compensate for
another as I must strive towards becoming a complete professional rather than settling for my existing
skillset. In conclusion, these assessments have provided myself with a broader understanding of my
leadership acumen and I plan to apply their findings towards taking on future career

We were able to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and maximize customer satisfaction in all
operations. Within the manufacturing operations, we reduced the cost of sales by 30 percent. In
administrative and service functions, we reduced cycle times and cost by as much as 90 percent. In
1990 and 1991 our division was used as the internal benchmark for service and administrative quality.
This success was based on creating a Six Sigma culture in which goals and objectives were clearly
defined and communicated, the creation of a six step continuous improvement model utilizing the
JUSE (Japanese Union of
Scientists and Engineers) seven problem solving tools, and the effective management of the change.
This book is written so that others can learn and apply these techniques.
This book consists of three sections. Section One is about how to identify the need for a Six Sigma
program and how to establish a Six Sigma culture. Section Two teaches a pragmatic six step
continuous improvement model. This continuous improvement model can be learned and used by all
employees in manufacturing, administration, and service operations. Section Three presents methods

Weekly Article On Photosynthesis
Weekly Summary on Photosynthesis
Structure of the Chloroplast: Leafs contain chlorophyll and are the sites of photosynthesis in plants.
Their flattened surfaces gather energy from sunlight while openings on their undersides bring in
carbon dioxide and release oxygen. The cells of a leaf are pack in between two layers of epidermal
cells, which provide the leaf with a waxy, almost impermeable cuticle that defends against water loss.
The only way for gases to diffuse in and out of the leaf is through small openings on the underside of
the leaf, the stomata then open and close according to the plant s needs. The tissues of the leaf in
between the epidermal cells, in which gases diffuse from the stomata, are called mesophyll.

The electron acceptor of the light reactions, NADP+, is a relation to NAD , which functions as an
electron carrier in cellular respiration. The two molecules differ only by the presence of an extra
phosphate group in the NADP+ molecule. Light reactions use solar power to reduce NADP+ to
NADPH by adding a pair of electrons along with a hydrogen nucleus. The light reactions then
generate ATP by powering the addition of a phosphate group to ADP, a process called
photophosphorylation. Therefore, light energy is converted to chemical energy in the form of two
compounds which are NADPH, a source of energized electrons, and ATP, the useful energy currency
of the light reactions produce no sugar which occurs in the second stage of photosynthesis, which is
called the Calvin cycle.
Describing the 3 stages of Calvin cycle:
A) Fixation stage: In addition to CO2, the stroma and two other mechanisms are present to start the
light independent reactions; an enzyme called ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase and three molecules
of ribulose bisphosphate. RuBP has five atoms of carbon, bordered by two phosphates. RuBisCO
catalyzes a reaction between CO2 and RuBP. For each CO2 molecule that reacts with one RuBP, two
molecules of 3 phosphoglyceric acid form. The number of carbon atoms remains the same, as the
atoms move to form new bonds during the reactions. This process is called carbon fixation because
CO2 is fixed from an inorganic form into organic

The Selfishness Of Edna Priestley s The Vanities
The Selfishness of Edna Pontellier
Though some may see the actions taken by Edna as justified, I feel that she was in no way justified in
her actions. In the realm of the social situation in the story, she acted selfishly and disregarded her
duties as a mother and a wife. She threw away a perfectly fine life for no reasons beyond her own
selfishness, and abandoned her family. However, in terms of the romantic tones of the story, she freed
herself from her perceived bondage and lived the life she wanted to live.
This idea of freedom counteracts the view of Edna as a selfish individual and presents her in a more
positive light. In this view, the author presents Edna as strong minded woman who wants to live the
life that she feels she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He struggled to compensate his wife with material affection in order to compensate for the lack of
emotional support. While this may not be a viable solution to the problem, it cannot be denied that he
was trying to combat the various problems they had between them. Even though it could be
understood that she would be upset by her husband lacks family skills, getting married was completely
Edna s fault. Their relationship has had a rocky history that is far from perfect. Chopin states her
marriage to Léonce Pontellier was purely an accident... He fell in love...and pressed his suit with an
earnestness and an ardor which left nothing to be desired. He pleased her; his absolute devotion
flattered her (18). Edna was not fair to him when she married him without loving him. She grew fond
of her husband (18), but this fondness alone is not a good reason for marriage. One could argue that
Leonce was a domineering, controlling man who viewed Edna as a part of his vast wealth. However,
Léonce simply did not know how to express his love and concern for Edna, or his family, in any way
other than with money. His life can be seen as stressful due to his job as well as his endless worrying
over his money; as such he has little energy to care for his wife and children. He tries as hard as
possible, but just lacks family and communication skills. Just because he cannot express his love

Elaboration Likelihood Model
When designing a persuasion campaign, multiple factors need to be considered. The Elaboration
Likelihood Model, can support the designing of a persuasive campaign. The model concludes,
individuals will be persuaded differently, based on their age, intelligence and self efficacy. It is crucial
to determine your audience, knowing your audience will enable understanding of already established
self efficacy levels of students. Proceeding to determining the self efficacy level of the audience. The
higher the general level of self efficacy is within the students, the more easily student will be to

The elaboration likelihood model states that persuasion can be take two different routes, central or
peripheral. The central route requires a person to think critically about the argument proposed,
considering both its strengths and weaknesses, then to elaborate on relevant themes. Whereas, the
peripheral route does refer to the attempts at persuasion, in which the change in attitude is a result
associated with positive stimuli popularity, an attractive model or a millionaire, which could be
relevant to substance of the argument. Selling products by associating them with attractive models or
either by promoting that the product will result in social benefits. This is the result of peripheral
attitude change techniques. Chaiken s (1995) study is closely linked to Petty and Capioppo (1986)
distinction of the central and peripheral route of processing. Whereas, Chaiken (1995) identified that
people systematically consider all aspects of a message given, or people can superficially rely on a
heuristic such as thinking that either longer arguments or arguments including statistical figures/facts
are more true. The study suggests that people are more likely to resort to heuristic processing if the
have limited time in order to process the message or if they are in a positive mood. Differences

Evergreen Naturals Market Essay
Case Evergreen Natural Markets 1. What makes Evergreen Natural Markets successful? There were
numerous factors that contributed towards the constant success of Evergreen Natural Markets. The
company s methodology towards growth and expansion is one of the integral factors. Where most
companies seek to grow by re investing their profits back into their businesses (ploughing back),
Evergreen adopted a more radical approach by acquiring other competing companies or companies

One was the fresh infusion of capital and administrative support provided by Evergreen. Evergreen
offered increased investment opportunities by providing the capital, human resources, and other

work without much competition from the outside. 3. How well does the acquisition of Arugula
Grocers align with Evergreen s established approach to integrating new stores? What modifications, if
any, should Norton make? The acquisition of Aragula Grocers is an advantageous addition to the
Evergreen group as it offered new opportunities in Nevada, Las Vegas. However, several
modifications would serve to improve the situation in their relations. Firstly, Mrs. Norton should
introduce more effective communication measures that will ensure that the link between Evergreen
and Aragula Grocers is not severed. It was discovered that the link between these two parties was
weak, and this will lead to confusion and dilution of the vision of the mother company. Secondly,
Norton also needed to rectify the financial status of the store before investing in it seriously. Aragula
Grocers was acquired amid a series of financial issues and complications that showed signs of
mismanagement. Adopting these problems will lead to failure of the store and eventually, losses for
Evergreen. Mrs. Norton should also consider making modifications to the management style in

Portrayal of Asian Americans
Abstract
My research focused on the coverage of Asian Americans in contemporary mass media. The following
types of media were researched:
· Music
· Television
· Films
· Magazines
I gave several examples where Asian Americans were used to play very simple characters. These roles
were defined by stereotypes that exist in America. I also researched instances on counter actions taken
by Asian Americans to protest against these negative images. My research also has examples of Asians
that have succeeded in breaking through the racial barriers in the media.
The results show that even though racial stereotyping still exists in various forms of mass media, there
are signs that show noticeable improvement on allowing a more balanced ... Show more content on

Hollywood typically restricts its portrayals of Asians to a limited range of clichéd stock characters
(Restrictive Portrayals [RP], 2004). Examples of the common roles that Asian Americans play in
movies are martial artists, Indian cab drivers, television anchorwomen and prostitutes (RP, 2004).
Even if most Americans do not buy into these images because they interact with many Asian
Americans who do not fit the stereotype, the areas of concern are those parts in the United States
where there isn t a sufficient Asian population (Wu, 2002). Since many Asian people do not surround
these Americans on an everyday environment, it is a safe assumption that they will draw their
judgment of Asian Americans from how they are portrayed on film and television.
In many American films, Asian men are portrayed as passive, old, and speak broken English. The
Karate Kid was a popular movie that depicted the Asian actor as such a man. In The Karate Kid, Pat
Morita plays Mr. Miyagi, an old Japanese American World War II veteran who calmly trains an
enthusiastic white teenage male the Japanese martial arts of karate. Despite the fact that Mr. Miyagi
was an American World War II veteran, he was still portrayed speaking English with a foreign accent.
The myth that all Asian men know some form of martial arts was also stressed in this movie when Mr.

reasons included the fall of the stock market, overseas investments, and the investments in Florida real

Death of the Author
Death of the Author Analysis
Roland Barthes is a French literary philosopher born in 1915. In one of his theories Death of the
author he argues that by giving a text an author is to impose a limit on that text . He claims that having
knowledge of the author s background and purpose for the text restricts the readers imaginative license
to build their own interpretations, and that the author and text are completely unrelated. Barthes
declares, The death of the author is the birth of the reader.
Instead, he calls the author a scriptor , to draw away from the thinking that the author and his/her
single experience is in control over the text. In this way, he makes a point that no writing is original,
and is created based on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Barthes statement would be invalid for autobiographical writing, where the authors are one with the
text, as they are writing about themselves.
In poetry, the author is a significant part of the poem as most poetry is a reflection of the poets
experiences through the use of metaphors and other poetic devices. To ignore this is to diffuse a poem
of its deeper meaning and connections.
We can use Full Moon and Little Frieda by Ted Hughes to argue against Barthes theory. Hughes wrote
this poem about his daughter Frieda s fascination with nature. The poem frames a specific scene
somewhere in the country:
A cool small evening shrunk to a dog bark and the clank of a bucket
And you listening.
A spider s web, tense for the dew s touch. A pail lifted, still and brimming mirror To tempt a first star
to a tremor.
Cows are going home in the lane there, looping the hedges with their warm wreaths of breath
A dark river of blood, many boulders, Balancing unspilled milk.
Moon! you cry suddenly, Moon! Moon!
The moon has stepped back like an artist gazing amazed at a work That points at him amazed.
The poem is fairly vague in terms of setting, and without knowledge of the author one would not
know that Ted Hughes, his wife and two children (one named Frieda) moved to a cottage in Devon. It
was there when he wrote Full Moon and Little Frieda after his wife Sylvia Plath committed

Disney s Strengths Of Disney
Disney Studio s main focus is on idea generation and storytelling through film and animation. In order
to be successful in its mission, Disney needs to be a strong, financially stable company, and judging
by its recent blockbuster hits, it is obvious Disney is achieving that mission. Disney s strengths lie
most notably in its ability to appeal to different crowds through a variety of studios, its strong,
internationally recognized brand, its reputation for doing good and treating others well, and having the
monetary funds to attract and keep the best talent. Despite its many strengths, Disney still encounters
problems; it ammasses high sunk costs through expensive movie ventures and does not make a lot of
that money back; Disney films bring in a very small percentage of Disney s overall income when
compared to its theme parks and attractions, television networks, and other holdings. Disney Studios
may just be one department of an international conglomerate, but it sets the tone for the rest of the
corporation.
One of Disney s greatest strengths lies in its diversification. The Walt Disney Company is in and of
itself a very diverse organization, with holdings in film production, amusement parks, cruises, hotels,
performances, and toy manufacturing. However, even within its film production, Disney is incredibly
diverse. What started out as a singular entity, Disney Bros. Cartoon Studio, has grown into a massive
conglomerate of animation studios, entertainment universes like

My Original Teaching Philosophy Statement
I honestly would not make any changes to my original teaching philosophy statement because I
believe that after reading through the entire phycology book, the things I read only supported the
things I stated in my philosophy statement. When writing my philosophy statement I had not taken
any previous education classes to aid my original teaching philosophy but I have been working with
kids my entire life and so I have seen first hand what things work with children and what does not.
This does not by any means mean that I know everything and have all the answers to teaching, it
simply means I have had a little bit of a head start with working with kids. You learn my trying
something out, analyzing if it worked, the reflecting on that and changing it. Even before taking this
class and reading that in the text I was already practicing this when I was the Sunday school teacher
for 2 3 year olds at my dads church. Another thing that gave me ideas on my teaching philosophy
statement was by being in a class and have an amazing teacher, or a not so amazing teacher. Even
without the knowledge I acquired in this chorus I was able to see the things my teacher did in a class
and reflect on if, for me as a student, they were helpful. These two reasons are why I believe my
reasoning behind teacher philosophy statement is sound.
An example of something that I wrote in my original statement that was later backed up by the book
was when I stated that every child is unique and therefore each

Once Nardelli turned his attention to cutting costs the problems became apparent, especially when the
workforce was drastically changed as Nardelli made the decision to cut costs by eliminating higher
paid employees and replacing them with less experienced and cheaper employees (Brown, 2011).
Members of the organization began to lose the sense of ownership that created the unique culture of
Home Depot. As a result customer service and satisfaction began to decline since there were no longer
experts to give tips and technical explanations to the Do It Yourself (DIY) customer base. Managers
were no longer given free reign to manage the store as they felt was appropriate to the location, and
instead now had numbers and quotas corporate expected them meet. Managers were no longer in
control of ordering inventory which resulted in many stores having product that was not being
purchased as it was ill suited to consumer demand. According to Brown (2011) in 2007 Bob Nardelli
refused to take a pay cut and left Home Depot to move on to Cerberus Capital Management (which he
later left in 2009 after they filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection). In 2014, Home Depot decided to

Canadian Culture Vs American Culture Essay
Canada is a diverse country. From its tundras to its cities, different peoples and animals thrive, and an

even though it borders the United States, it is still a completely separate country. Canada was

discovered Newfoundland, an island off the main Canadian coast. Later, in the 1540s, the French
explorer Jacques Cartier explored the St. Lawrence River that cuts through Canada. This exploration
expanded until Cartier had established French control over Canada. However, England also claimed
parts of Canada for itself. Throughout the sixteenth to seventeenth centuries, France and England
contiuned to take Canadian territory for themselves. The French and Indian War, which ended in 1763,
forced the French to give up their territory to England. The British wanted to avoid rebellion, so they
divided Canada into upper and lower Canada, the upper being more English and the lower being more
French. However, much conflict was occurring between the two provinces, so the British reunited

before the incident, Amir [catches] a glimpse of Hassan s face, and describes his face as holding

Description Of A Database Management System
Chris Velasquez
MGMT 329
Final Research Paper to Pass
A database is an organized collection of data. It is the collection of tables, queries, reports, viewings,
and other objects. The data are typically organized to model aspects of reality in a way that supports
processes requiring information, such as modelling the structure of a major business such as Walmart,
and all of its data including things like their inventory, customers, and their employees. A database
management system is a computer software application that interacts with the user, other applications,
and the database itself to capture and analyze data. A general purpose database management system is
designed to allow the definition, creation, querying, update, and administration of databases. The
Database uses terms that are key for anyone to sift through the collection of data that any company or
business collects. terminology consists of keywords that will help users select desired pieces of data.
The primary key is a special relational database table column of a collection of columns appointed to
individually identify all table records. The primary key s main features include: it cannot contain a
unique value for each row of data, and it cannot contain null values. The primary key is either an
existing table column or a column that is explicitly initiated by the database according to a defined
sequence. The foreign key is a column or group of columns in a relational database table that

Theories Of Romeo And Juliet Tragic Hero
The tragic hero is the protagonist of the story; the purpose of a tragic hero is to evoke sad emotions,
such as pity or fear from the audience. The flaw or mistake of the tragic hero leads to their downfall.
Although the hero has been defeated, humanity is shown to have redeeming qualities. Three main
theories of the tragic hero are the Aristotelian model, the Shakespearean model, and the modern tragic
hero. Each model has five defining characteristics, which are nobility, hamartia, downfall, anagnorisis,
and suffering. In the Shakespearean mode of tragedy, the play Romeo and Juliet best models the tragic
hero. For instance, nobility is characterized by being upper class and having elevated character.

instance, nobility is characterized by being upper class, which Elvis does not particularly satisfy. In
addition, Presley s hamartia, or his fatal error that ultimately brings about his doom, lies in his hubris,
which drives him to start an addiction that takes over his whole life. The tragic hero also has a
downfall, where his circumstances are reversed and he gradually loses power. In Elvis Presley s
example, his addiction leads his life, but people still loved Elvis because of his amazing music.
Furthermore, the anagnorisis, or the change from ignorance to the recognition of the hamartia, is not
always recognized by the tragic hero. Lastly, the tragic hero endures suffering or death that is not only
contained to himself. Through the five main characteristics, the shakespearean tragic hero follows a

  • 2. Fear Of Manipulating A Spinal Injury Focusing my attention back on the PL, I moved to check the one place unseen and began removing his helmet. His head was protected, but tilting his chin back was one thing I didn t want to do for fear of manipulating a spinal injury. It also is what finally exposed and opened the small hole in his throat from an apparent piece of shrapnel and he began to bleed profusely. I immediately called the medic away from one of the less seriously wounded to help me with the bleeding. I packed the wound but loosely, not wanting to interfere with what was left of his airway and then pulled him up to my lap so I could maintain pressure on the wound. He was still dying. Running out of options, I checked his airway again and manipulated his tongue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shortly thereafter, he regained life signs and consciousness, attempting to sit up even. I called for a litter and directed he be secured and ready to move, meanwhile contacting the Command Post to provide a situation report and moving to check on other casualties at the CCP. At this time I had twelve that needed evacuation and eight more walking wounded. There were barely enough lucid Soldiers to pull security, but my biggest problem was that the QRF had not arrived yet. Searching for an improvised solution for the PL who I believed was expectant at this point, I saw an Afghan National Army truck parked nearby with a driver who seemed as though he was trying to help. I directed that the PL be loaded onto the back of the pickup truck with two ambulatory Soldiers who could pull security on both the surroundings and the driver. I sent the medic to monitor his airway. The interpreter conveyed my directions to the driver to take the Soldiers straight to our Entry Control Point at the AP, and I instructed the PL s security to take the vehicle by any means necessary if the driver did not follow directions. Our Platoon Leader was now conscious and responsive, and I told him where he was going and why. Less than fifteen minutes after the attack, the PL and his fight for life was on his way to next level care. As the truck pulled off our 3rd Platoon arrived as QRF. The QRF medic took over where ours had left off. All the casualties were stable and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. William Browning And Elizabeth Barrett Browning Essay The Two Authors Different Perspective Literatures in the Victorian Era Many authors are influenced by the society, culture, politic and economy during their period. Therefore, their literary works usually describe the condition of their period directly or indirectly. The two authors, Roberts Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, also expose the culture and the condition of the society of the Victorian era through their works. The authors are married couple authors of the Victorian era. Roberts Browning s a typical literary work is My Last Duchess. Elizabeth Barrett Browning s one of the most famous work is Aurora Leigh. In the two poems, the authors mainly focus on the different gender roles. Even though the two Victorian era literatures, Aurora Leigh and My Last Duchess, demonstrate the social issue, which is a sexual discrimination during the Victorian era, each author emphasizes the seriousness of the issue by using different perspectives on women s roles and positions. My Last Duchess, which was written by Roberts browning demonstrates the horrible condition of the Victorian society by exposing the author s perspective on the genders role in the Victorian era. The book, the literature of the Victorian era, defines the poem a perfect picture of cold blooded heartlessness, a thing possible in any age though fortunately (Hugh 427). The poem clearly shows the dreadful social condition for a woman in the Victorian era. According to the author, Michael O Neill, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The thoughts of philosophers like Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Locke inspired many, such as the Americans. Their ideas about freedom of religion, civil liberties, free trade, and social reforms became the basis that the Americans built their new country upon and impacted politics and culture. Due to the advanced ideas that were emerging from Europe, religious views of the colonists started to alter. The Washington Redskins and many other teams are facing this. this makes teams look ignorant. Mascots imply that all Natives have to be a dark brown color, have big noses, and long wavy black hair. Examples of these stereotypical mascots are the Washington Redskins, FSU, Cherokee Braves, and any other school with a racist mascot. • 7. A Good Friend In today s world, many people are backstabbing and downright terrible. A good person, much less a good friend is hard to find. It may be difficult for one to figure out who their true friends really are, and in a time of need, one may be left wondering if they have any friends at all. Good friends are usually found in small groups, maybe even just two people. A good friend is someone who cares about you and will almost never let you down. To me, a good friend is loyal, is someone you can laugh with, and is someone who can give you advice. Most importantly, a good friend will be loyal. For example, a good friend might put their best friend at the top of their priority list when it comes to spending time with them. A few weeks ago my best friend Makenzie invited me to go spend the day with her and her family at Clarkco State Park where they were camping. Although I had already made plans to go on a date with my boyfriend that day, I decided to cancel the plans with him in favor of spending time with Makenzie. Best day ever in my opinion. On the contrary, a good friend will not go behind their friends back. Even Though two best friends may not agree with each other every once in awhile, they will never talk badly about them or share their friend s secrets. Obviously, the most important defining quality of a good friend is their loyalty. Additionally, a good friend is someone who can laugh with you. I personally am very clumsy, and my best friend definitely knows that. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Greek Culture And Greco-Roman Culture Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange of the Greeks and Romans The Romans explored, encountered, and exchanged cultural ideas, art forms and conventions, religious ideas, and inventions with the Greeks. Arrival at the crime scene and drawing theories from the scene would be the initial step of deductive analysis. Forming a hypothesis from theories drawn at the scenes would follow. The hypothesis here is; there are many aspects of this crime and unknown suspects that are obvious such as the sophistication of the attacks and the fact that the young children were spared, this alone aligns with criminals who are experienced and have a clear method of what they do. Observation of the multiple crime scenes and the way in which the family was killed leads to, this act of violence against this family showing as being business related and not personal. This is based on the fact that the victims were shot execution style while sleeping in their beds (Valencia, 2017). It is possible the marijuana grow operations are connected in some way to the killings. Coca Cola And The Carbonated Soft Drink Question 1: Both Coca Cola and Pepsi originally operated primarily in the carbonated soft drink (CSD) industry, but have started to expand into other relatively similar markets, such as beverages that are non carbonated. The soft drink industry during the time of this case is changing rapidly and forcing powerhouse carbonated soft drink companies like Coca Cola and Pepsi to find new ways to adapt and compete with the rise of non carbonated drinks and healthy drink alternatives. Therefore, we consider the bargaining power of suppliers in this industry to be low. Bargaining Power of Buyers Supermarkets, fountain outlets, and mass merchandisers account for more than half of the distribution of CSDs in the United States (pg. 4). Competition for shelf space is very intense so it s important for bottlers to fight to ensure their product has good visibility (pg. 4). With the Master Bottle Contract, both Coke and Pepsi were able to determine many terms of the contracts it had with its bottlers including pricing and other conditions (pg. 3) giving them more power. Both companies also retained deals with fast food restaurants to serve only their products to its customers (pg. 4). It should also be noted that buyers switching costs to competing brands and substitute products are low. End user buying demand for CSDs also dropped in the United States, causing Coke and Pepsi to search abroad for new business opportunities (pg. 11). Even though the end user may have more buying power, we believe that the bargaining power of buyers such as bottlers and many retail channels is low. Threat of Substitutes When it comes to the many different types and brands of beverages available to purchase, there are a vast assortment of available substitutes in relation to CSDs as shown in Exhibit 7 (pg. 18). Another concern for CSDs is the link between its consumption and health issues like obesity and nutritional value (pg. 9). Also, schools throughout the U.S. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Colonial DBQ Although New England, primarily Massachusetts, and the Chesapeake region, primarily Virginia, were largely settled by people of English origins, by 1700 these regions had evolved into two distinct societies. The difference in development occurred for the following three reasons, the motives of the settlers, the people that settled there and the geography of the respective regions. One of the most important differences in development for the New England and Chesapeake regions was the motives of the settlers. The colonists who founded Massachusetts, the Puritans, a reformist Christian group, largely settled there for religious reasons. • 32. Death of the Author Death of the Author Analysis Roland Barthes is a French literary philosopher born in 1915. In one of his theories Death of the author he argues that by giving a text an author is to impose a limit on that text . He claims that having knowledge of the author s background and purpose for the text restricts the readers imaginative license to build their own interpretations, and that the author and text are completely unrelated. Barthes declares, The death of the author is the birth of the reader. Instead, he calls the author a scriptor , to draw away from the thinking that the author and his/her single experience is in control over the text. In this way, he makes a point that no writing is original, and is created based on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Barthes statement would be invalid for autobiographical writing, where the authors are one with the text, as they are writing about themselves. In poetry, the author is a significant part of the poem as most poetry is a reflection of the poets experiences through the use of metaphors and other poetic devices. To ignore this is to diffuse a poem of its deeper meaning and connections. We can use Full Moon and Little Frieda by Ted Hughes to argue against Barthes theory. Hughes wrote this poem about his daughter Frieda s fascination with nature. The poem frames a specific scene somewhere in the country: A cool small evening shrunk to a dog bark and the clank of a bucket And you listening. A spider s web, tense for the dew s touch. A pail lifted, still and brimming mirror To tempt a first star to a tremor. Cows are going home in the lane there, looping the hedges with their warm wreaths of breath A dark river of blood, many boulders, Balancing unspilled milk. Moon! you cry suddenly, Moon! Moon! The moon has stepped back like an artist gazing amazed at a work That points at him amazed. The poem is fairly vague in terms of setting, and without knowledge of the author one would not know that Ted Hughes, his wife and two children (one named Frieda) moved to a cottage in Devon. It was there when he wrote Full Moon and Little Frieda after his wife Sylvia Plath committed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Disney s Strengths Of Disney Disney Studio s main focus is on idea generation and storytelling through film and animation. In order to be successful in its mission, Disney needs to be a strong, financially stable company, and judging by its recent blockbuster hits, it is obvious Disney is achieving that mission. Disney s strengths lie most notably in its ability to appeal to different crowds through a variety of studios, its strong, internationally recognized brand, its reputation for doing good and treating others well, and having the monetary funds to attract and keep the best talent. Despite its many strengths, Disney still encounters problems; it ammasses high sunk costs through expensive movie ventures and does not make a lot of that money back; Disney films bring in a very small percentage of Disney s overall income when compared to its theme parks and attractions, television networks, and other holdings. Disney Studios may just be one department of an international conglomerate, but it sets the tone for the rest of the corporation. One of Disney s greatest strengths lies in its diversification. The Walt Disney Company is in and of itself a very diverse organization, with holdings in film production, amusement parks, cruises, hotels, performances, and toy manufacturing. However, even within its film production, Disney is incredibly diverse. What started out as a singular entity, Disney Bros. Cartoon Studio, has grown into a massive conglomerate of animation studios, entertainment universes like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. My Original Teaching Philosophy Statement I honestly would not make any changes to my original teaching philosophy statement because I believe that after reading through the entire phycology book, the things I read only supported the things I stated in my philosophy statement. When writing my philosophy statement I had not taken any previous education classes to aid my original teaching philosophy but I have been working with kids my entire life and so I have seen first hand what things work with children and what does not. This does not by any means mean that I know everything and have all the answers to teaching, it simply means I have had a little bit of a head start with working with kids. You learn my trying something out, analyzing if it worked, the reflecting on that and changing it. Even before taking this class and reading that in the text I was already practicing this when I was the Sunday school teacher for 2 3 year olds at my dads church. Another thing that gave me ideas on my teaching philosophy statement was by being in a class and have an amazing teacher, or a not so amazing teacher. Even without the knowledge I acquired in this chorus I was able to see the things my teacher did in a class and reflect on if, for me as a student, they were helpful. These two reasons are why I believe my reasoning behind teacher philosophy statement is sound. An example of something that I wrote in my original statement that was later backed up by the book was when I stated that every child is unique and therefore each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But, it is not necessarily the first one that comes to mind considering its competitors like Lowe s, Ace Hardware, or True Value. In 1978 when Home Depot was founded by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank its growth seemed unstoppable. This is most evident by looking at financials of the organization, in 1981 stock options were opened to the public and by 1984 Home Depot was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (The Home Depot: Investor Relations). Once Nardelli turned his attention to cutting costs the problems became apparent, especially when the workforce was drastically changed as Nardelli made the decision to cut costs by eliminating higher paid employees and replacing them with less experienced and cheaper employees (Brown, 2011). Members of the organization began to lose the sense of ownership that created the unique culture of Home Depot. As a result customer service and satisfaction began to decline since there were no longer experts to give tips and technical explanations to the Do It Yourself (DIY) customer base. Managers were no longer given free reign to manage the store as they felt was appropriate to the location, and instead now had numbers and quotas corporate expected them meet. Managers were no longer in control of ordering inventory which resulted in many stores having product that was not being purchased as it was ill suited to consumer demand. According to Brown (2011) in 2007 Bob Nardelli refused to take a pay cut and left Home Depot to move on to Cerberus Capital Management (which he later left in 2009 after they filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection). In 2014, Home Depot decided to promote from within and executive vice president Craig Menear became president and CEO (Home Depot: Investor Relations). • 36. Canadian Culture Vs American Culture Essay Canada is a diverse country. From its tundras to its cities, different peoples and animals thrive, and an assortment of foods can be tasted. Canada also makes a great tourist destination. It is surprising that even though it borders the United States, it is still a completely separate country. Canada was discovered by the Viking Leif Erikson in the year one thousand. After exploring Greenland, he discovered Newfoundland, an island off the main Canadian coast. Later, in the 1540s, the French explorer Jacques Cartier explored the St. Lawrence River that cuts through Canada. This exploration expanded until Cartier had established French control over Canada. However, England also claimed parts of Canada for itself. Throughout the sixteenth to seventeenth centuries, France and England contiuned to take Canadian territory for themselves. The French and Indian War, which ended in 1763, forced the French to give up their territory to England. The British wanted to avoid rebellion, so they divided Canada into upper and lower Canada, the upper being more English and the lower being more French. However, much conflict was occurring between the two provinces, so the British reunited them into one colony again, hoping that this would eliminate the French culture of the country (Frances 85). Directly before the incident, Amir [catches] a glimpse of Hassan s face, and describes his face as holding resignation in it (76). He then goes on to compare his expression to the look of a lamb (76). In this quote, Amir is referring to the sheep that he witnesses the mullah kill on a Muslim holiday, the tenth day of Dhul Hijjah, which he and his family celebrate every year. Amir believes that the lamb sees itself as a sacrifice, and accepts its unwanted fate, which is how he believes that Hassan feels too. The flaw or mistake of the tragic hero leads to their downfall. Although the hero has been defeated, humanity is shown to have redeeming qualities. Three main theories of the tragic hero are the Aristotelian model, the Shakespearean model, and the modern tragic hero. Each model has five defining characteristics, which are nobility, hamartia, downfall, anagnorisis, and suffering.
