Artificial Reefs Used as Fisheries
The main objective of our study is to determine if artificial reefs can be used as a fisheries
enhancement or conservation tool in Narragansett Bay. Using a variety of research techniques, we will
attempt to answer the following questions: (1) do artificial reefs increase the abundance (and biomass)
of important species of demersal sport fish? Or (2) do reefs attract existing numbers of fish to the reef
and increase the rate of exploitation, thus potentially decreasing localized populations (or
communities)? By building a carefully replicated network of artificial reefs, we will advance research
on the impact of artificial reefs. In order to address our study questions, we propose the construction
of 0.25 acre artificial reefs (0.5 acre area) using pre fabricated reef modules in three locations of
Narragansett Bay. The creation of small scale experimental reefs will not only provide long term
research stations but will also improve benthic habitat conditions in an area of soft sediments.
The performance of artificial reefs varies considerably, depending on materials used as well as
location of deployment and intended results. Breakup, movement, and burial have been reported to
occur in reef programs. The location and design of reef complexes must be carefully chosen to balance
the goals and objectives of a project with environmental and social constraints (Table 1).
We used geospatial and fisheries data to ensure that our reef locations are placed in the most suitable

The Spiritual Journey In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
He bowed low, right down to the ground, in front of the man sitting there motionless, whose smile
reminded him of everything that he had ever loved in his life, of everything that had ever been of
value and holy in his life (Hesse 122). In 1922 Hermann Hesse published his popular novel,
Siddhartha. This book follows the spiritual journey of a man named Siddhartha. During his odyssey,
Siddhartha finds himself in the presence of many teachers that help him with his trek to Nirvana, the
state of tranquility. Although he prefers to not learn from teachers, Kamala educates him about
passion, Vasudeva guides him to enlightenment, and Govinda edifies Siddhartha throughout his entire
life. They all teach Siddhartha essential life lessons on his voyage to self discovery. Kamala, a woman
Siddhartha crosses paths within the city, educates him on the true meaning of passion. During their
relationship, Kamala sees something unique in Siddhartha, You are stronger than others, more supple,
more willing. You have learned my art well, Siddhartha. Someday, when I am older, I will have a child
by you (Hesse 59). As a courtesan, Kamala typically never feels this way about others. Their
infatuation grows for one another throughout the novel, even though both claim they will never love.
Numerous years pass in the city; they end up growing old together and Siddhartha knows he needs to
leave and return on his path to reach Nirvana. Covertly pregnant with Siddhartha s child, Kamala

Fredericksburg Research Paper
On November 26, 1862, the Union army arrived in Falmouth, Virginia and across the Rappahannock
River was Fredericksburg where the Confederate forces had fortified the hills behind the city. They
would stay in Falmouth until December 11 when they bombarded Fredericksburg on December 13 and
moved into the destroyed city, but the Confederates were in the hills. The next day the 44th New York,
Orsell s regiment joined the Third Brigade as they attempted to capture the Confederate s position.
They moved through the hills and ravine trying to avoid sniper and cannon fire, but they had to take
cover behind a small rise in the ground and spend the night there in the mud. The next morning,

For Orsell this loss hurt his moral and chipped away at his ideals. In the letter from December 22,

lives are spared. It is not with high spirits, bring out hopes and cheerful up that I can seat myself to

Olivia which was something he always looked forward. Orsell continued by describing the defeat as
inglorious and that it had cast a gloom of disappointment and sorrow over the whole army as well as
destroying the hope of the soldiers. To close the letter, Orsell wrote about how he felt about first
joining the army and how he felt now after the defeat, Even at that time I did not think we were to
suffer such a defeat and it was indeed startling. Orsell started to truly question why he was there and if
it was worth it because one wrong move could kill

The Threat of Love in Orwell’s Novel 1984 Essays
Love is both the foundation and the weakness of a totalitarian regime. At the heart of any totalitarian
society, love between two individuals is eliminated because only a relationship between the person
and the party and a love for its leader can exist. The totalitarian society depicted throughout the Orwell
s novel 1984 has created a concept of an Orwellian society. Joseph Stalin s Soviet regime in Russia
can be described as Orwellian. The imaginary world of Oceania draws many parallels to the modern
day totalitarian regime established by Stalin. For example, in the novel it was the desire of the Party to
eliminate love and sex, in order to channel this pent up passion towards the love of Big Brother.
Similarly, Stalin used propaganda ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the Cult of Personality was flourishing. Propaganda glorifying Stalin and Soviet ideals
brainwashed the minds of Russian people. Stalin successfully impressed his socialist philosophies on
millions of workers and peasants. Over time, socialism transformed into Stalinism, and it took hold.
Stalin was able to hypnotize people towards one belief, the love of Stalin. When they saw Stalin being
portrayed heroically everyday in the news or on posters, they began to idolize him. Stalin is like Big
Brother; he was the main focus and had total power over the people and their actions. The description
of Big Brother himself bears a physical resemblance to Stalin and his cult of personality. Orwell s Big
Brother is an all seeing, all knowing figure with ultimate authority. Soviet Russia was Orwellian in the
sense that individual thought was eliminated and all emotion was directed towards the nation and the
figure of Stalin himself. It is difficult to find accurate accounts of specific relationships that occurred
in Soviet Russia. However, Orwell s 1984 bears such close resemblance to Soviet Russia that it gives
an accurate example of the ultimate failure of love between two individuals in a totalitarian regime. In
1984, the goal of the Party was to eliminate love and loyalty because these two qualities create bonds
between two people. It is these bonds that are the biggest threat to the Party because they result in

Supreme Court Decision-Making
Segal, Timpone and Howard s article Buyer Beware? (2000) draws upon existing research into the
appointment of Supreme Court justices by seeking to empirically prove Robert Dahl s 1957 theory
that a justice s voting typically reflects the policy preferences of the president who appointed them,
thereby allowing presidents to achieve their policy goals even after leaving office (pp. 557 558). The
authors clarify this by stating that in the event of a clear correlation, concordance should not be
considered synonymous with responsiveness. Put simply, the research is not proposing that Supreme
Court justices are directly influenced by the decisions of the president who appoints them, but merely
that the president and appointee share the same political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Hulbary and Walker note in The Supreme Court Selection Process (1980), presidents may consider
a range of factors when selecting their desired justice, such as age, race, religion and the likelihood of
the nomination gaining the Senate s approval. Thus, it would be reductive to conclude from Segal,
Timpone and Howard s research that shared policy preferences are the primary goal of a nominating
president in all cases. The authors rightfully acknowledge this by highlighting Dwight Eisenhower s
nomination of William J. Brennan, a justice far more liberal than his appointer who is widely believed
to have been chosen as a concession to northern liberals before the 1956 election (pp. 569 570). A
more recent example of this trend would be the 2016 nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme
Court by Barack Obama. While it is unlikely that the centrist Garland would have been Obama s first
choice to fill the vacant seat left by Antonin Scalia, he may now represent the least worst scenario,
insofar as he stands a small chance of being approved by an obstructionist Republican Senate. If this
occurs, it would surely be treated as a victory by the current White House administration. As such, it is
important not to automatically conflate ideological differences between president and justice with a
failed appointment, a trap that the article occasionally falls into (p.

Engineering Skills Gap At The Manufacturing Sector
Abstract
This report looks into what the future may look like for the manufacturing sector as well as
engineering in Wales. The future looks potentially very good, with many predictions of growth in the
manufacturing sector, with a possible £27 billion more each year from 2022, for the UK in general,
drawing more companies in and creating many more jobs in the process. However, the main obstacle
is an engineering skills gap, with many more engineers required to fill the vacancies and replace the
aging workforce, than Wales is currently producing. There are a number of programs to try and
increase the number of children studying STEM subjects and funding to create more engineering
apprenticeships. While the 2022 target is within reach a lot more work is needed to produce the
required number of engineers to make the growth possible.
Introduction
The manufacturing industry is comprised of businesses that manufacture and process products from
raw materials or commodities. It includes a vast range of sectors such as food, chemicals, automotive,
computer equipment and electronics. In most developed countries manufacturing takes up a significant
part of the economy.
This report will look at the current situation of the manufacturing sector as well as engineering in
Wales, and look into what the future may be like, as well as what is being done to achieve it.

lived a heroic life and died on September 20, 2005. I am just here to explain his tales and misfortunes.
Simon started off by being born in the Ukraine, but his parents soon packed up and took him along to
Argentina. Growing up he did well in school and graduated from The Gymnasium in 1928 and applied
to the Polytechnic Institute in Lvov. Turned away because of restrictions on Jewish students, he went
to the Technical University of Prague instead, from which he received his degree in architectural
engineering in 1932. In 1936, Simon married Cyla Mueller and worked in an architectural office in

After his life of nazi hunting, he moved back to his native land Austria. Used to his active lifestyle, he
found himself doing nothing all day. He decided to spend his time more productively by writing down
all that he remembered about being a concentration camp inmate. The book was about when he was a
concentration camp inmate, Simon was taken from his cell to the bedside of a dying member of the
SS. (Hitler s personal guards) Haunted by the crimes he has helped commit and watch in the past, he
wanted to hear a jew say that he forgives him so he could die at peace. Faced with the choice of a man
dying in peace, or silence and justice, he chose silence. The book was later published and titled

Then eventually his camp is liberated right before the nazis started liquidating the inmates population.
Then he became a free man therefore has no restraints. Simon was also awarded many medals for his
services as a Nazi hunter. 13 states dished out medals of honor, and France, Germany, England, and

Ethics And Ethics In Oscar Wilde s The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Introduction (provisional outline)
The picture of Oscar Wilde is still fuzzy and incomplete but in the popular imagination, he remains an
iconic, larger than life figure largely because of his public persona and modus vivendi: He was a
flamboyant dandy and a brilliant wit; a refined, decadent aes thete. Professionally, he produced
excellent prose pieces and composed arguably only mediocre poetry and he vociferously proposed
unconventional theories about art and aesthetics. Yet, Wilde continues to be shrouded in this heavy fog
of mystery. He is above all an inscrutable enigma. While he may at times give away the real and
authen tic nature of his complex self, at other times this self cunningly conceals itself behind a mask.
In this sense, Wilde knew exactly how to transcend history with a strange, shad owy presence that will

Before examining this connection more closely, however, it is appropriate to consider the context in
which the novel was received when it came out in a serialised version in Lippincott s Monthly
Magazine in 1890. To provide a solid and sound foundation the second section will subsequently
address Wilde s thoughts about the spheres of ethics and aesthetics in his theoretical writings,
primarily in the anthology Intentions. In the third and last part, his theories are determinedly applied to
relevant passages from Dorian Gray endeavouring to discover how the ethical and the aesthetic
operate within the novel. According to Wilde: There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book.
Books are well written or badly written (Wilde 1999: 17). Are these statements valid criteria for
evaluating works of art? Does Wilde in saying this refute the assertion that art possesses and provides

Project Delivery Methods For Distinct Allocation Of Risk...
Project delivery methods allow for distinct allocation of risk and responsibilities within a construction
contract. Each unique construction project calls for a defined delivery method and a written contract in
order to ensure the success of the venture. A project delivery option is defined as a method for
procurement which the owner s assignment of delivery risk and performance for design and
construction has been transferred to another party (Mahdi 564). After a legal and appropriate contract
is signed, contractual privity exists which allows the contracting parties to hold each other responsible
for their actions. The design bid build delivery method is often referred to the traditional method of
contractual relationships in the construction industry. This method allows the owner to select a design
professional based off of the quality of their work, whereas the selection of the construction manager
is based off competitive bids submitted after the completion of the design. The traditional method may
be viewed as the tried and true system of creating successful contractual relationships, but the
evolution of the industry has called for this method to take on different forms. One such form is the
construction manager at risk (CMR) method, which allows for collaboration between the owner,
designer, and construction manager during the early stages of the design process and continues
throughout the life of the construction project. This agreement makes up thirty percent

Southwest Airlines has effectively used a variety of promotional elements in its integrated marketing
communications, making it one of America s largest airlines with 3,300 flights a day to 72 domestic
cities. Southwest Airlines has used all four possible elements of the promotion mix: advertising, public
relations, personal selling, and sales promotion, but has focused primarily on advertising and public

building the Southwest brand, engaging the target market, and enhancing Southwest Airlines beyond
the budget flight.
Building the Brand: Southwest Airlines is well known as a Texas based company that has a human
side and a down home attitude. Because of its large size, Southwest Airlines uses a variety of larger
promotional methods, such as national advertisements and strong public relations to promote an image
of a fun LUVing brand. But, flight crews are the closest interactions that a customer has with the
product, budget flights, which are a simple, undistinguished product. The quirky commercials and
cheap flights appeal to a target market that is budget conscious but still enjoys the fun side of life. The
flight crews bridge the gap between the fun, unique commercials and the actual flight experience. By
interacting with customers and joking around with passengers, they are able to grow customer
allegiance in this market by acting in the same way that the brand has tried to portray itself.
Engaging the target market: Southwest Airlines attracts both budget conscious customers and those
who are looking to have an interesting travel experience. Oftentimes, these two targets overlap as one
market. The flight crews are supposed to display a Warrior Spirit, a Servant s Heart, and a Fun
LUVing attitude, which is intended to engage the flight crew with the

Memory of a Young Boy in The poem My Papa’s Waltz by...
My Papa s Waltz The poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke presents a memory from a young
boy waltzing with his father. The waltz is a metaphor that represents the relationship the boy has with
his father. Although the poem may seem like a happy and sweet story of a father and son dancing in
the kitchen there are also some darker underlying tones. The speaker, who is the young boy, is
directing theses words towards his father, but does not actually express them directly to the father,
instead the speaker is just reflecting upon them in his head. In the first stanza of the first line the
reader finds out the father has been drinking, a lot, so much that his son also feels dazed from the
alcohol on the fathers breath. Also the boy, hung on like death (3) this is a simile, meaning that he is
hanging on tightly even though it may be hard. In the same line the speaker uses the word death this
makes the poem feel a little somber and not very happy. At the end of the stanza in line four we find
out that the boy was having difficulties waltzing with the father, the dancing they were doing was
awkward for the young boy because the father was inebriated and loose from the drinking. Since the
waltz represents the relationship they hold, this could very likely mean that it is not easy to be with his
father every so often. Dancing with the father was not a quiet and graceful moment, but the young
boy seems to accept it. In the second stanza we find out they are doing more

Analysis Of Tracks By Louise Erdrich
Almost everyone has heard the quote, you can t understand someone until you walk a mile in their
shoes at least once in their life. It means that a person should not judge another person before
considering their perspective on something. For the novel Tracks by Louise Erdrich, that quote is an
important theme for its main characters. The novel gives a glimpse into the lives of Native Americans
in 20th century America through the narrative of two characters: Nanapush and Pauline Puyat. The
stories of the two alternate through every chapter, with each character narrating their own side of the
same continuous timeline. The first narrator is Nanapush, a wise elder of the Ojibwe tribe, whose
wisdom is a useful tool for the tribe s people. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were at one time close with one another while working together in the same town of Argus, but
over the years they began to drift apart.
There is one specific story within the novel that truly shows the differences in both Nanapush and
Pauline s narratives. The story is of Eli Kashpaw, Fleur s husband, and presumed father of Lulu. The
story begins with Nanapush telling of how Eli visits his cabin for advice on how to get Fleur to like
him, or as Nanapush described it, [Eli] wanted something other than what I could teach him about the
woods...he wanted to know how I satisfied three wives (Erdrich 41). That interaction between Eli and
Nanapush showed how trusted Nanapush was to the people of the tribe, they felt they could ask him
for anything: from advice on how to hunt to how to get a girlfriend. [Eli] asked me the old time way to
make a woman love him and I went into detail so he should make no disgraceful error and those
details seemed to work as the reader sees in the next weeks that Eli and Fleur are living together in the
woods.
As the reader saw how Nanapush was the initiator of their relationship, in Pauline s chapter, she is
seen as its destructor. Pauline has always had a fascination/jealously towards Fleur ever since they
met. When they worked together in Argus, she would always compare herself to Fleur saying, I was so
poor looking, I was invisible to most customers and to the men in the shop while Fleur made [the men
s] brains hum (Erdrich 18)

The Contract Agreement Between The Parties Essay
#1 In order for a contract to be enforceable, there must be a mutual agreement between the parties.
One way to contest a contract is by proving there is no mutual agreement or a lack of assent; therefore,
it is important to have genuine assent before entering into a contract. In cases where the assent is not
genuine, the contract may be unenforceable. Mistakes and Fraud are two of the reasons contracts lack
genuine assent. Contract mistakes can either be unilateral, a mutual mistake of a material fact, or
mutual mistake of value. A mutual mistake of value occurs when the parties are mistaken in regards to
the value of the object of the contract. For instance, Jane sells a baseball card to Jim for $1; Jim thinks
the card would be a perfect gift for his young nephew and purchases it from Jane. Before Jim gives the
card to his nephew, a friend informs him the card is very valuable and advises him to get it appraised.
Jim discovers the card is worth $20,000 and later sales it for $19,000. Since a mutual mistake of value
is unenforceable, Jane cannot sue Jim for the profits from the sale. A unilateral mistake occurs when
only one party is mistaken about the material fact regarding the subject matter of the contract . In most
cases where there is a unilateral mistake, the mistaken party cannot cancel the contract; therefore, the
contract remains enforceable. A mutual mistake of a material fact, unlike a unilateral mistake, is where
both parties are mistaken about a material

The And Of The Renaissance
When describing Giuseppe Arcimboldo s artwork, scholars consistently use one term: bizarre. Indeed,
among his most famous paintings are that which feature human faces composed out of food, animals,
and household objects. Modern viewers have viewed these composite paintings amusingly. However,
there is more depth and context to Arcimboldo s art than simply to serve as forms of entertainment.
Research suggests Arcimboldo masked social critiques and political messages in his paintings, which
were reflective of the ongoing intellectual currents of the Renaissance. As best put by Thomas
DaCosta Kaufmann, Arcimboldo s paintings can be seen not as bizarre fancies, but as the expression
of the complicated intellectual world of the late sixteenth century (Elhard 117). Therefore, this paper
will examine Arcimboldo s background as an artist, analyses of his composite paintings, and the
relationship his artwork had to Renaissance scholarship. Arcimboldo was an Italian artist who worked
in the courts of emperors Ferdinand I, Maximilian II, and Rudolf II during the sixteenth century, the
period of the Renaissance. During his employment, Arcimboldo produced and designed tapestries,
stained glass windows, festival staging, and costumes. However, he is most famous for his avant garde
paintings of composite heads. These paintings were comprised of objects fruit, vegetables, books, etc.
associated with the allegorical meanings of the subjects (Elhard 116). The inspiration behind these

Deceptive Advertising
Deceptive advertising has been around since the beginning of time and still prevalent today.
Sometimes it is done unknowingly by an advertiser, however more often than not; it is done with the
intent to mislead the consumer making deceptive advertising a relevant marketing ethics issue.
Deceptive advertising is a growing trend among business in our society. This trend includes directly
trying to deceive consumers into thinking that they are getting something great but in reality they are

According to the Better Business Bureau, an advertisement as a whole may be misleading although
every sentence separately is considered true. Second, the Federal Trade Commission examines the
misrepresentation from the view of a reasonable consumer or particular target group such as the
elderly. And finally, the representation, omission or practice must be a material one . This means that
if the misrepresentation is likely to affect the consumers decision whether or not to use or purchase a
certain product or service, this is considered material since the consumer may have decided differently
if not for the deceptive advertising (Federal Trade Commission, 1998[on line]). The 1990 s have
brought on some new targets for deceptive advertisers as well as a new focus for Federal Trade
Commission and the Better Business Bureau. The main target of the 90 s include: antioxidant claims,
the diet industry for misrepresenting weight loss claims, environmental or green marketing claims for
products claiming that they are good for the environment and are not, 900 numbers for

Essay On Stakeholder Analysis Of Delhi s Odd-Even Policy
Stakeholder Analysis of the Delhi s Odd Even Policy
The implementation of the odd even policy has directly or indirectly impacted a wide variety of
people especially those living in Delhi. Due to the complexity of the demographic structure and
transportation system in Delhi, this experiment has drew intense attentions from the public and
brought pressure to the government. The citizens in Delhi were highly impacted by this drastic
measure. Meanwhile, the high court in Delhi and the Delhi government played the key roles in
determining and implementing the policy. It is crucial to understand the role of each stakeholder
played in this issue and how well their interests or concerns were addressed. More importantly, studies
were made to investigate which stakeholder has a higher level of influence in the policy making and
implementation process. This will provide important insights to the future implementation of the
policy as revealed by the government earlier. Therefore, this paper has carefully examined the interests
of three main stakeholders groups (residents in Delhi including the minorities, Delhi government and
the High Court), the impacts of policy on each group and their level of influence in this policy.
Citizen in the capital is the largest stakeholder group in this experiment. Residents in Delhi played the
key roles in ensuring the success of the experiment. Without the cooperation given by the residents,

Surgical Wound Care Case Study
Problem 1
Wound Care
Justification
Dougherty and Lister (2011) stated that it is important to keep post surgical wound free from infection
because the healing of the wound depends on the amount of care being provided. There are potential
complications associated with infected post surgical wound, which includes wound dehiscence,
surgical site infection, and hematomas. These complications often occur within hours after surgery, so
therefore, high priority should be place on wound care for a patient who has had a resection of recto
sigmoid tumor and is left with a laparotomy wound.

Fate In The Crucible
A Twisted Fate
Prompt: A work of literature cannot be regarded as successful unless at its end the main character
meets a fate that seems to be the natural result of what he has done or shown himself to be. Show how
this statement is true in The Crucible.
Every dramatic play has a tragic hero with a twisted fate. John Proctor is the hero of a play called The
Crucible by Arthur Miller. John is a decent man who lives with his wife, Elizabeth Proctor, in Salem,
Massachusetts during the 17th century. Miller writes based on the popular interests of the people
during the 17th century and characterizes John as a persistent man who has pride in who he is. He also

and Abigail is successful in making herself seem as though she is the victim of her own deeds. After

confessed it! (Miller 113). The importance of John s words is that they reveal one a cause of his
downfall having faith in Elizabeth not lying about his sin in front of the judges. This line is also
prominent because it helps the reader predict John s fate. Since the immorality of adultery is evident
when John is asked to list the Ten Commandments, one can infer that he will most likely be sentenced

Since a disaster is defined as a calamitous event, especially one occurring suddenly and causing great
loss of life, damage, or hardship, as a flood, airplane crash, or business failure (Dictionary.com), I
would say the sinking of the Vasa was a anthropogenic disaster. The failure of the Vasa can be
contributed to more than just its sinking, if we take a look at its inception the Vasa was predestined to
fail. The lessons learned from this event can provide insight into the loss of the Vasa and projects of

Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI): A New Approach In The Field Of Education
Asst.Prof. Ambily Merlin Kuruvilla

Abstract
The growth in information technology (IT) rapidly changed the world. The growth of e Learning
technologies implies the fact that the future education system will largely depend upon the electronic
devices and computer aided technologies. Computer aided teaching techniques are much more
effective for the children than the traditional teaching system in most of the cases. The purpose of this
study is to enhance teaching quality by using computer assisted instruction (CAI).
All educational program including syllabus, methods of teaching, evaluation etc... are meant for
satisfying the needs and requirements of average students, the major population of the society. Under
such conditions, the categories of students namely gifted students, slow learners and educationally
backward students etc...would not get suitable facilities for satisfying their needs and requirements.
Indirectly they are wasting their time and effort by attending the formal class. The growth of e
Learning technologies implies the fact that the future education system will largely depend upon the
electronic devices and computer aided technologies. computer aided teaching techniques are much
more effective for the children than the traditional teaching system in most of the cases.

The Ending of White Minority and Nelson Mandela Essay
The Ending of White Minority and Nelson Mandela
In 1948, the Apartheid system officially started. A Dr. Malan introduced it. He established the
structure of Apartheid because he exclaimed different races could not live amongst each other in
harmony and needed to live separately. Some might argue it was because he wanted to secure the
supposed superiority of the White minority. It ended within 50 year of starting.
This essay is going to explain how Nelson Mandela, once just a member of a small Black tribe in the
depth of South Africa, fought Apartheid to become a worldwide figurehead for non Whites, the first
Black president of South Africa, in 1994. It will also explain to what extent his ... Show more content

Drastic times lead to drastic measures, so Mandela sought temporary refuge in neighbouring countries,
ruled by Blacks to set up militia groups. Mandela study military tactics for a long time and used that
knowledge to train his group to sabotage electricity supplies for White neighbourhoods, strike
government buildings and cause a general disruption for the Whites. But in 1962, on Mandela s return
to South Africa, he was arrested.
This is a key factor in which opinion disagrees with Mandela solely ending Apartheid. When arrested
he was sent to a high security prison on Robben Island, off the coastline of South Africa, for 26 years.
Although, in response, others feel Mandela was a figurehead who inspired other Blacks to fight for
their cause. Also he receives credibility for the awareness around the world at the time.
After Mandela s release he became president of South Africa in 1994, and with help from his White
deputy, de Klark, managed to dismantle the Apartheid state.
When Mandela took refuge it was at a time when a trend swept across the continent of Africa. During
the late 50s and throughout the 60s, the White colonies that ruled over 30 countries in Africa gave
independence to the Black peoples of the countries. This allowed Black people to govern themselves.
The trend seamed to spread from North to South Africa from Libya, in the North in 1951 through to

value orientation that you did not know before? After completing my.blog 3.1, I learned several things.
The first thing is that I am individualistic, meaning that I have a tendency to emphasize my individual
identity over a group identity. The second was that I am small power distance oriented, meaning I tend
to value equal power distributions, equal rights and relations, and equitable rewards and punishments
on the basis of performance. Third, I learned that Ii have feminine patterns, meaning that I emphasize
flexible sex roles when it comes to behaviors. Finally, I learned that I have a strong uncertainty
avoidance, meaning I prefer clear procedures, and conflict, avoidance behaviors. Overall, I think this
is basically spot on. I do tend to want equal rights, and rewards/punishments based on performance,
and I do really hate conflict. After completing my.blog 3.2, I also learned even more. After adding up
my scores, I found that I am a bicultural value person. Neither my individualism score or my
collectivism score was much different. This means that in certain situations when my value of self
reliance and personal freedom is the focus I may be more individualistic, while when it comes to
being sensitive to others needs, I may be more collectivist. After completing my.blog 3.3, I also

2.1 Professor Ian Webster, chair of the Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation, said the
number of young people putting themselves at risk of alcohol related harm was troubling given the
impact of alcohol on brain development.
Separate figures from the Bureau of Statistics reveal consumption of pre mixed alcoholic drinks has
leapt by 15% in the past year. The figures show that 60% of female drinkers aged between 15 and 17
reported drinking a pre mixed drink, compared to 14% in 2000, suggesting the sweet and fizzy mixes
are increasingly introducing young people to alcohol.
The foundation survey also underlines the rise of alcohol related violence, with more than a quarter of
respondents having been verbally abused by someone under the influence of alcohol, and almost one
in 20 having been physically abused by a drunk person.
The survey of 23,000 people found the proportion of the general population drinking alcohol daily fell
slightly and the number of people abstaining from alcohol climbed from 9.3% to 10.1%.
The alcohol industry seized on the survey to suggest that alcohol abuse was not getting worse. Stephen

manufacturers, said the study showed Australians were moderating their alcohol

Introduction In 1998, Newell Company set out to expand its revenue base through strategic acquisition
of two major companies. Newell s CEO at that time was John McDonough, who was in charge of

strategic initiative to increase shareholder value in a shortened period of time. Unfortunately, the

This centralization encourages a standard reaction for changing customer requirements that result in
strategic business continuity for product quality, price stability (margins), supply and logistics, and PR

from a manufacturer of low technology domestic products to becoming a volume merchandiser. The
basic concept was focusing on the talent of volume merchandising. Decades of supplying large
retailers such as Woolworth, Kmart, Wal Mart, Staples, Home Depot, and others, gave Newell the
necessary skill to provide excellent service. Newell began a strategy of acquiring faltering companies
instituting proven Newell corporate management strategies. Acquisitions fail more often than not.
Newell takes a risk every time it acquires a new company. Conflicts often arise when two corporate
cultures meld. Acquiring diverse companies does not allow Newell to master the manufacturing
processes of each product. Newell focuses primarily on consolidating financial systems, sales and
order processing systems, and flexible manufacturing systems. Acquiring such diverse businesses,
which are already faltering, is a very risky corporate strategy. A key part of Newellization is creating
efficiencies through plant closures and labor reductions. Employee loss results in a decrease of
intangible resources, which are difficult to quantify. Workers skills,

Comparative analysis of the rise of religious extremism in Arab and Indian Politics
The cases being discussed by the authors here are more significant than the discussion of any other
Muslim or Hindu nation because of the fact that these cases discuss the role of these religions in their
respective birthplaces. We can realize the importance of this point by considering, for example that the
Islamic countries worldwide look towards the Arabic ulemas for validation of their Islamic policies
and also each fatwa issued by the Arab ulemas is almost always followed by a similar action by their
counterparts in other countries. Similarly, though Hinduism doesn t have a transnational appeal like
Islam, Hindus all over the world still regard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many of the countries the non Islamic population is not sufficiently large to be perceived as a threat
to Islam, and thus the jihad or the fight for reformation is mostly with members of the same
community who are perceived as a threat to the establishment of an Islamic state.
This economic gap, as well as the growing westernization of the secularist elements, is used by the
Islamists to gain a following among the traditional elements of the society. Thus, the present condition
of the society is projected as a result of western hegemony which is creating conditions similar to the
pre Islamic jahiliyyah in Arab, marked by growing oppression, materialism and moral laxity. A return
to Islam is projected as the only hope for preserving the culture and morality of the society, and Allah
s will.
The rise of the BJP, RSS and Hindu extremism at large in India has, on the other hand, a number of
different causes. Hindus and Muslims lived together relatively peacefully till the beginning of the 20th
century, even though Islam in India spread through often forcible conversions by the Mughal rulers.
The gradual worsening of relations between the two communities during the early 20th century can be
attributed to the British policies of divide and rule, such as creating separate electorates for the

The Importance Of Income For Professional Baseball Players
Research was made in order to persuade the readers of how professional baseball players in today s
society deserve the income they are receiving. Possessing the ability to play at a professional level is
what makes these men truly worthy of their income.
Considerable Income for Professional Baseball Players The average salary of a professional baseball
player has been increased substantially throughout the past decades; a player today makes exceedingly
more than they used to. Baseball is different from other sports due to the mental aspect of the game
making it one of the hardest sports as a professional athlete. The uphill battle to become a professional
at the sport of baseball is near impossible as talent is more frequent throughout the globe. Some argue
whether baseball is a beneficial career to the community as other professions including firefighters,
fireman, policeman, and nurses deserve the admiration more than a professional baseball player. Good
ball players are always in demand throughout the league. MLB players are highly skilled athletes thus
earning them the right to such a high income as they bring value to the organization and have put in
dedicated hours of hard work, dedication, and practice throughout all levels of play.

There are a lot of times in country music that there is a bass, guitar, singer, piano, and drums. That is
what our band is. The bass and the drums are for keeping the beat and sounding good. The piano and
the guitar are usually leading and if one is then the other is the background. And of course the singer is
the lead singer. Especially in country music, sometimes there are more than one singer and there is a
background singer.
Busking is like showbiz that is the same as an entry level job. If you perform well enough someone
could discover you and you could join the ranks of famous performers. First you have to find a good
place where people walk by or drive, then you can tell people about it and that will get some to come,
and you have to pick a good time to go. If you go when everyone is in school and at work you won t

you. I learned piano, learned how to play On the Road Again . I had some trouble singing and playing

Arguments Against Cloning
Should mankind really become corrupt all because humans want to clone others and perfect them, out
right defying nature? Cloning is when you create similar populations with genetically identical beings.
Cloning, for example, is when you have a cow and produce another cow that is identical to the
original cow. To clone an animal, you must extract DNA from the cell of the animal and place that
DNA onto an egg cell from another animal. Who actually thought of and started cloning is unclear.
Scientist debate whether cloning is moral or not. Even though cloning can cure genetic diseases, one s
life span shortens. The overall result is that cloning is unethical since it goes against nature. Cloning
cures genetic diseases that are currently incurable. If you clone a living thing, the replication of the
living thing would have been cleared of its diseases. First you must produce an embryo through vitro
fertilization, a complicated series of procedures used to investigate ... Show more content on

The clone is similar, if not identical, to the living thing it was cloned from. Even though the clone
would have unique preferences, the individuality would be lost because it is just a twin of someone

value of human life would deteriorate. If a parent doesn t like their child, then they can just discard
their child and clone a new one to perfection. And perfected clones might be treated differently than
naturally made humans who contain flaws. There would be without a doubt bullying directed at
clones. Not only is individuality lost and the reduction of value of human life, your life span shortens
when you are cloned. Since older cells are often being used to create clones, there is a possibility that
the old age could be planted on the growing embryo. This would lead to premature aging and even

Miss Greythorne told Will that once he has learned what he had to learn, then he would receive the
Sign of Wood made me predict that Will s learning would not take place somewhere very distant
because he was already in a different time period with the Dark already starting to rise, so he wouldn t
have much time to make a long trip somewhere and back to learn. Lastly, I think Susan Cooper chose
this setting because Miss Greythorne was an Old One and there seemed to also be other Old One s

History, Laws, And Health Impacts On Marriages And Divorce
In our society, little girls and boys are classically trained to believe in fairytale finding the one and
only love. The price charming or snow white; from daily cartoons like the Little Mermaid to animated
movies like Frozen. The traditional belief is to one day get married and start a family. Dating websites
like Match, eHarmony, or OkCupid spends millions of dollar each year to marketing to people that are
looking for marriage. On the other hand, there are Sorrell Trope and Daniel Jaffe; both of them are
among some of the top divorce lawyers in the country. Sorrell Trope has represented Britney Spears,
Nicole Kidman, and Tiger Woods s wife Elin Nordegren. Daniel Jaffe represented Rupert Murdoch s
wife Anna Murdoch in their 1.7 billion dollar divorce settlement. Marriage and divorce is something
that happens all around us. In this paper we will look at the history, laws, and health impacts on
marriages and divorces.
Social Sciences Marriage and divorce. Marriage is defined as a formally recognized union between
two people as partners in a relationship. They both share finance and legal responsibilities. They also
establish rights between their children and in laws. At the beginning of man kind marriage did not
exist, simply because about 2 million years ago human s had very little usage of marriage. There were
no laws or ownership of any kind in place. Historians theorized male and females had many partners.
Food was used to exchange in sexual favors. At that time humans

D.Min. Project Prospectus Sharon L. Smith I. Title: Bridging the Gap: A Pilot Project Aimed at
Mutually Equipping Church and Business Leaders for Kingdom Impact II. The Context: Followers of
Jesus Christ who possess a divine calling, talents, and gifts to work and serve God through specific
voluntary or paid vocations in the workplace face daily opportunities to impact the Kingdom of God.
When believers walk by faith and obedience in the revelation that God s divine presence and purpose
is with them daily in their work lives, God empowers them to lead change that can transform lives,
businesses, and even nations. Believers clearly see this truth in the lives of Abraham, Joseph, Daniel,
and Nehemiah. The Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many marketplace leaders express a desire to have greater impact for God in the workplace, but their
view and understanding of Kingdom ministry hinders them. The common belief that sacred is separate
from secular is pervasive among marketplace believers. This view is detrimental to the advancement
of the Kingdom. Contrary to this belief, Scripture represents a holistic approach, which views work as
worship with all believers as one of a kind ministers of God s grace in the context in which He places
them. A deficient understanding of the importance of a God given calling to serve the Kingdom in a
marketplace vocation weakens a believer s perspective and witness as he or she seeks to engage with
unsaved humanity. Also, many Spirit filled marketplace ministers lack hope and faith that the gifts of
the Spirit will operate through them in workplace contexts. The present state of corruption, greed, and
moral failure among leaders in corporate America bears witness to the need for the Church to more
effectively engage in the marketplace. Informed and relevant equipping and empowering of workplace
believers by knowledgeable church leaders can help direct God s followers toward this goal. Greater
and more industrious works of service are possible through increased communication and
collaboration between church and

uses her poetry as a unique way to get out the truth. Through poems such as On Being Brought From
Africa to America and the poem about Lee, she made statements about was what going on at that time;
a revolution. Phillis Wheatley was known as a revolutionary mother, for she gave hope to slaves, ease
to whites, and was an influence to America. She was not known for conflict or trying to start an

She was too much for the mistress anymore, for Mary didn t know too much more than Phillis at this
point. The Wheatley son, Nathaniel, continued to encourage Phillis to read whatever she could. The
newest question that aroused in the Wheatley family, was that since now Phillis could speak fluent
English, could she explain her past and development. All she could remember of her past was an
image of her mother pouring water on the land before the rising sun, honoring the new ay by the rite# .
(pg 95 Women in the American Revolution) This shows that Phillis could have learned the Arabic
language. She was often told that Phillis should consider herself lucky because she brought into a land
of Christianity. However, her Bible tells her that the black children of Cain are marked for perdition# .
( pg 96 Women in the American Revolution) Phillis was noted for her prayer, in which she wrote in
her Bible for God to save her, Oh my Gracious Preserver! ..Tho conceived in Sin brot forth in iniquity
yet thy infinite wisdom can bring a clean thing out of an unclean, a cessel of Honor filled for Thy
glory grant me to live a life of gratitude to Thee for the innumerable benefits O Lord my God! Instruct

  • 2. Artificial Reefs Used as Fisheries The main objective of our study is to determine if artificial reefs can be used as a fisheries enhancement or conservation tool in Narragansett Bay. Using a variety of research techniques, we will attempt to answer the following questions: (1) do artificial reefs increase the abundance (and biomass) of important species of demersal sport fish? Or (2) do reefs attract existing numbers of fish to the reef and increase the rate of exploitation, thus potentially decreasing localized populations (or communities)? By building a carefully replicated network of artificial reefs, we will advance research on the impact of artificial reefs. In order to address our study questions, we propose the construction of 0.25 acre artificial reefs (0.5 acre area) using pre fabricated reef modules in three locations of Narragansett Bay. The creation of small scale experimental reefs will not only provide long term research stations but will also improve benthic habitat conditions in an area of soft sediments. The performance of artificial reefs varies considerably, depending on materials used as well as location of deployment and intended results. The Spiritual Journey In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha He bowed low, right down to the ground, in front of the man sitting there motionless, whose smile reminded him of everything that he had ever loved in his life, of everything that had ever been of value and holy in his life (Hesse 122). In 1922 Hermann Hesse published his popular novel, Siddhartha. This book follows the spiritual journey of a man named Siddhartha. During his odyssey, Siddhartha finds himself in the presence of many teachers that help him with his trek to Nirvana, the state of tranquility. Although he prefers to not learn from teachers, Kamala educates him about passion, Vasudeva guides him to enlightenment, and Govinda edifies Siddhartha throughout his entire life. They all teach Siddhartha essential life lessons on his voyage to self discovery. Kamala, a woman Siddhartha crosses paths within the city, educates him on the true meaning of passion. During their relationship, Kamala sees something unique in Siddhartha, You are stronger than others, more supple, more willing. You have learned my art well, Siddhartha. Someday, when I am older, I will have a child by you (Hesse 59). As a courtesan, Kamala typically never feels this way about others. Their infatuation grows for one another throughout the novel, even though both claim they will never love. Numerous years pass in the city; they end up growing old together and Siddhartha knows he needs to leave and return on his path to reach Nirvana. Covertly pregnant with Siddhartha s child, Kamala ... • 5. The Threat of Love in Orwell’s Novel 1984 Essays Love is both the foundation and the weakness of a totalitarian regime. At the heart of any totalitarian society, love between two individuals is eliminated because only a relationship between the person and the party and a love for its leader can exist. The totalitarian society depicted throughout the Orwell s novel 1984 has created a concept of an Orwellian society. Joseph Stalin s Soviet regime in Russia can be described as Orwellian. The imaginary world of Oceania draws many parallels to the modern day totalitarian regime established by Stalin. For example, in the novel it was the desire of the Party to eliminate love and sex, in order to channel this pent up passion towards the love of Big Brother. Similarly, Stalin used propaganda ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the Cult of Personality was flourishing. Propaganda glorifying Stalin and Soviet ideals brainwashed the minds of Russian people. Stalin successfully impressed his socialist philosophies on millions of workers and peasants. Over time, socialism transformed into Stalinism, and it took hold. Stalin was able to hypnotize people towards one belief, the love of Stalin. When they saw Stalin being portrayed heroically everyday in the news or on posters, they began to idolize him. Stalin is like Big Brother; he was the main focus and had total power over the people and their actions. The description of Big Brother himself bears a physical resemblance to Stalin and his cult of personality. Orwell s Big Brother is an all seeing, all knowing figure with ultimate authority. Soviet Russia was Orwellian in the sense that individual thought was eliminated and all emotion was directed towards the nation and the figure of Stalin himself. It is difficult to find accurate accounts of specific relationships that occurred in Soviet Russia. However, Orwell s 1984 bears such close resemblance to Soviet Russia that it gives an accurate example of the ultimate failure of love between two individuals in a totalitarian regime. In 1984, the goal of the Party was to eliminate love and loyalty because these two qualities create bonds between two people. It is these bonds that are the biggest threat to the Party because they result in Ownlife. The Party ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Supreme Court Decision-Making Segal, Timpone and Howard s article Buyer Beware? (2000) draws upon existing research into the appointment of Supreme Court justices by seeking to empirically prove Robert Dahl s 1957 theory that a justice s voting typically reflects the policy preferences of the president who appointed them, thereby allowing presidents to achieve their policy goals even after leaving office (pp. 557 558). The authors clarify this by stating that in the event of a clear correlation, concordance should not be considered synonymous with responsiveness. Put simply, the research is not proposing that Supreme Court justices are directly influenced by the decisions of the president who appoints them, but merely that the president and appointee share the same political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Hulbary and Walker note in The Supreme Court Selection Process (1980), presidents may consider a range of factors when selecting their desired justice, such as age, race, religion and the likelihood of the nomination gaining the Senate s approval. Thus, it would be reductive to conclude from Segal, Timpone and Howard s research that shared policy preferences are the primary goal of a nominating president in all cases. The authors rightfully acknowledge this by highlighting Dwight Eisenhower s nomination of William J. Brennan, a justice far more liberal than his appointer who is widely believed to have been chosen as a concession to northern liberals before the 1956 election (pp. 569 570). A more recent example of this trend would be the 2016 nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court by Barack Obama. While it is unlikely that the centrist Garland would have been Obama s first choice to fill the vacant seat left by Antonin Scalia, he may now represent the least worst scenario, insofar as he stands a small chance of being approved by an obstructionist Republican Senate. If this occurs, it would surely be treated as a victory by the current White House administration. As such, it is important not to automatically conflate ideological differences between president and justice with a failed appointment, a trap that the article occasionally falls into (p. ... • 7. Engineering Skills Gap At The Manufacturing Sector Abstract This report looks into what the future may look like for the manufacturing sector as well as engineering in Wales. The future looks potentially very good, with many predictions of growth in the manufacturing sector, with a possible £27 billion more each year from 2022, for the UK in general, drawing more companies in and creating many more jobs in the process. However, the main obstacle is an engineering skills gap, with many more engineers required to fill the vacancies and replace the aging workforce, than Wales is currently producing. There are a number of programs to try and increase the number of children studying STEM subjects and funding to create more engineering apprenticeships. While the 2022 target is within reach a lot more work is needed to produce the required number of engineers to make the growth possible. Introduction The manufacturing industry is comprised of businesses that manufacture and process products from raw materials or commodities. It includes a vast range of sectors such as food, chemicals, automotive, computer equipment and electronics. In most developed countries manufacturing takes up a significant part of the economy. • 10. Ethics And Ethics In Oscar Wilde s The Picture Of Dorian Gray Introduction (provisional outline) The picture of Oscar Wilde is still fuzzy and incomplete but in the popular imagination, he remains an iconic, larger than life figure largely because of his public persona and modus vivendi: He was a flamboyant dandy and a brilliant wit; a refined, decadent aes thete. Professionally, he produced excellent prose pieces and composed arguably only mediocre poetry and he vociferously proposed unconventional theories about art and aesthetics. Yet, Wilde continues to be shrouded in this heavy fog of mystery. He is above all an inscrutable enigma. • 11. Project Delivery Methods For Distinct Allocation Of Risk... Project delivery methods allow for distinct allocation of risk and responsibilities within a construction contract. Each unique construction project calls for a defined delivery method and a written contract in order to ensure the success of the venture. A project delivery option is defined as a method for procurement which the owner s assignment of delivery risk and performance for design and construction has been transferred to another party (Mahdi 564). After a legal and appropriate contract is signed, contractual privity exists which allows the contracting parties to hold each other responsible for their actions. The design bid build delivery method is often referred to the traditional method of contractual relationships in the construction industry. This method allows the owner to select a design professional based off of the quality of their work, whereas the selection of the construction manager is based off competitive bids submitted after the completion of the design. The traditional method may be viewed as the tried and true system of creating successful contractual relationships, but the evolution of the industry has called for this method to take on different forms. One such form is the construction manager at risk (CMR) method, which allows for collaboration between the owner, designer, and construction manager during the early stages of the design process and continues throughout the life of the construction project. The waltz is a metaphor that represents the relationship the boy has with his father. Although the poem may seem like a happy and sweet story of a father and son dancing in the kitchen there are also some darker underlying tones. The speaker, who is the young boy, is directing theses words towards his father, but does not actually express them directly to the father, instead the speaker is just reflecting upon them in his head. In the first stanza of the first line the reader finds out the father has been drinking, a lot, so much that his son also feels dazed from the alcohol on the fathers breath. Also the boy, hung on like death (3) this is a simile, meaning that he is hanging on tightly even though it may be hard. In the same line the speaker uses the word death this makes the poem feel a little somber and not very happy. At the end of the stanza in line four we find out that the boy was having difficulties waltzing with the father, the dancing they were doing was awkward for the young boy because the father was inebriated and loose from the drinking. Since the waltz represents the relationship they hold, this could very likely mean that it is not easy to be with his father every so often. • 15. The Contract Agreement Between The Parties Essay #1 In order for a contract to be enforceable, there must be a mutual agreement between the parties. One way to contest a contract is by proving there is no mutual agreement or a lack of assent; therefore, it is important to have genuine assent before entering into a contract. In cases where the assent is not genuine, the contract may be unenforceable. Mistakes and Fraud are two of the reasons contracts lack genuine assent. Contract mistakes can either be unilateral, a mutual mistake of a material fact, or mutual mistake of value. A mutual mistake of value occurs when the parties are mistaken in regards to the value of the object of the contract. For instance, Jane sells a baseball card to Jim for $1; Jim thinks the card would be a perfect gift for his young nephew and purchases it from Jane. Before Jim gives the card to his nephew, a friend informs him the card is very valuable and advises him to get it appraised. Jim discovers the card is worth $20,000 and later sales it for $19,000. Since a mutual mistake of value is unenforceable, Jane cannot sue Jim for the profits from the sale. A unilateral mistake occurs when only one party is mistaken about the material fact regarding the subject matter of the contract . In most cases where there is a unilateral mistake, the mistaken party cannot cancel the contract; therefore, the contract remains enforceable. A mutual mistake of a material fact, unlike a unilateral mistake, is where both parties are mistaken about a material ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The And Of The Renaissance When describing Giuseppe Arcimboldo s artwork, scholars consistently use one term: bizarre. Indeed, among his most famous paintings are that which feature human faces composed out of food, animals, and household objects. Modern viewers have viewed these composite paintings amusingly. However, there is more depth and context to Arcimboldo s art than simply to serve as forms of entertainment. Research suggests Arcimboldo masked social critiques and political messages in his paintings, which were reflective of the ongoing intellectual currents of the Renaissance. As best put by Thomas DaCosta Kaufmann, Arcimboldo s paintings can be seen not as bizarre fancies, but as the expression of the complicated intellectual world of the late sixteenth century (Elhard 117). Therefore, this paper will examine Arcimboldo s background as an artist, analyses of his composite paintings, and the relationship his artwork had to Renaissance scholarship. Arcimboldo was an Italian artist who worked in the courts of emperors Ferdinand I, Maximilian II, and Rudolf II during the sixteenth century, the period of the Renaissance. During his employment, Arcimboldo produced and designed tapestries, stained glass windows, festival staging, and costumes. However, he is most famous for his avant garde paintings of composite heads. These paintings were comprised of objects fruit, vegetables, books, etc. associated with the allegorical meanings of the subjects (Elhard 116). The inspiration behind these ... Fate In The Crucible A Twisted Fate Prompt: A work of literature cannot be regarded as successful unless at its end the main character meets a fate that seems to be the natural result of what he has done or shown himself to be. Show how this statement is true in The Crucible. Every dramatic play has a tragic hero with a twisted fate. John Proctor is the hero of a play called The Crucible by Arthur Miller. John is a decent man who lives with his wife, Elizabeth Proctor, in Salem, Massachusetts during the 17th century. What did you discover about your value orientation that you did not know before? After completing my.blog 3.1, I learned several things. The first thing is that I am individualistic, meaning that I have a tendency to emphasize my individual identity over a group identity. The second was that I am small power distance oriented, meaning I tend to value equal power distributions, equal rights and relations, and equitable rewards and punishments on the basis of performance. Third, I learned that Ii have feminine patterns, meaning that I emphasize flexible sex roles when it comes to behaviors. Finally, I learned that I have a strong uncertainty avoidance, meaning I prefer clear procedures, and conflict, avoidance behaviors. Overall, I think this is basically spot on. I do tend to want equal rights, and rewards/punishments based on performance, and I do really hate conflict. After completing my.blog 3.2, I also learned even more. After adding up my scores, I found that I am a bicultural value person. Neither my individualism score or my collectivism score was much different. This means that in certain situations when my value of self reliance and personal freedom is the focus I may be more individualistic, while when it comes to being sensitive to others needs, I may be more collectivist. The figures show that 60% of female drinkers aged between 15 and 17 reported drinking a pre mixed drink, compared to 14% in 2000, suggesting the sweet and fizzy mixes are increasingly introducing young people to alcohol. The foundation survey also underlines the rise of alcohol related violence, with more than a quarter of respondents having been verbally abused by someone under the influence of alcohol, and almost one in 20 having been physically abused by a drunk person. The survey of 23,000 people found the proportion of the general population drinking alcohol daily fell slightly and the number of people abstaining from alcohol climbed from 9.3% to 10.1%. We can realize the importance of this point by considering, for example that the Islamic countries worldwide look towards the Arabic ulemas for validation of their Islamic policies and also each fatwa issued by the Arab ulemas is almost always followed by a similar action by their counterparts in other countries. In many of the countries the non Islamic population is not sufficiently large to be perceived as a threat to Islam, and thus the jihad or the fight for reformation is mostly with members of the same community who are perceived as a threat to the establishment of an Islamic state. This economic gap, as well as the growing westernization of the secularist elements, is used by the Islamists to gain a following among the traditional elements of the society. Thus, the present condition of the society is projected as a result of western hegemony which is creating conditions similar to the pre Islamic jahiliyyah in Arab, marked by growing oppression, materialism and moral laxity. A return to Islam is projected as the only hope for preserving the culture and morality of the society, and Allah s will. The rise of the BJP, RSS and Hindu extremism at large in India has, on the other hand, a number of different causes. Hindus and Muslims lived together relatively peacefully till the beginning of the 20th century, even though Islam in India spread through often forcible conversions by the Mughal rulers.
