Discuss How Sherriff Presents Human Weakness and Frailty...
Discuss how Sherriff presents human weakness and frailty in Journeys End
Journeys End was written with the intention of letting the war speak . The lives of the officers on the
front line during 1917 are examined. A key theme that is explored throughout the play is the reactions
of the mind and body, under the stress of the war. Each character represents the weakness of the
human being in an individual way, but the character on which frailty is mainly focussed is Stanhope.
Stanhope is the topic of many conversations within the dugout and the first conversation we see,
Stanhope is mentioned. The conversation is between Osborne, the second in command, and the
commanding officer of the company being relieved. The commander inquires as to ... Show more

Sherriff shows this to the audience by having Raleigh describe the war like a game at school, using
words such as cricket and rugger , which show the youth, innocence and naivety of Raleigh. When the
reality becomes clear, Raleigh s attitude towards the war changes dramatically.
The death of Raleigh at the end of the play sums up his characteristics in the best possible way, his
innocence is shown until his final moments when he compares the wound in his back to be just the
same as getting kicked in a game of rugger . His death signifies much more than the passing of one
soldier, added with Raleigh passing, the candle flame extinguishing, shows the death of society in
1917 and of innocence, showing how nothing could return to the way it was in the years previous to
the war.
After the raid which occurs near the end of the play, Raleigh s view on the war has changed after he
witnesses the first deaths of people he knew. He questions as to how Stanhope can stay drinking
champagne whilst Osborne s body is lying out there . Again this shows the audience just how naïve
Raleigh is, as he has never experienced the loss of someone close to him and the effect that the war
has on people.
Despite Raleigh s innocence and weakness, he is determined to fight until the end, showing that his
character (although naïve) has

Social And Social Identity Theory
Originally proposed by Tajfel and Turner, the Social Identity Theory (SIT) can be described as the
comparison between the individual self and the social self. More specifically, it is the individual s
perception that is derived from their membership of a social group (ingroups and outgroups) or
personal identities. The theory is divided into three different psychological mechanisms: social
categorization, social comparison, and the tendency for people to use the group membership as a
source to gain self esteem. A theory is defined as a theory as long as it meets the two requirements:
describing behaviors and the ability to describe/see the future behaviors of individuals. Since the
behaviors of individuals can be based on the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuals tend to over exaggerate the differences between the outgroups and outgroups, while they
exaggerate the similarities between the ingroups. The Social Identity Theory demonstrates reliability
in that it provides an explanation for intergroup behaviors such as stereotypes. The theory is
demonstrated within the study of Sherif et al (1954). The study was carried out in order to observe the
creation of groups, attitudes, and the norms of the groups through group activities. Sherif intended to
observe the reactions and attitudes between the individuals when there are two separate groups
(realistic conflict theory). The researchers had 22 boys with similar backgrounds and boys in the age
group of 11 12 years old. Boys were divided into two separate groups before the experiment began
and the researchers used single blind study in that the boys did not realize that they were participating
in an experiment; the boys were there to attend a summer camp. The two groups were divided and
each group participated in team bonding activities and the boys had created their distinctive identity as
members of the Eagles or members of the Rattlers. Researchers created a game in which only one
group benefited in order to create conflict between the two groups. Unlike the decent start in the
beginning, the members of each group portrayed

The Theme Of Paranoia In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time
Beyond the elements of any story, there is always a reevaluation about life or central characters.
Theme always includes a statement upon the notation of abstract qualities through the embodiment of
the writer. As presented in Once Upon a Time, the central insight to the plot suffices to the crude
development of the character who overcompensates the emotion of paranoia, executed by the natural
dangers of the outside world. Author Nadine Gordimer generalizes the concept of the psychosis based
on the parallelism between the fear of the character to the fear of the mother in her dream. Notably,
she illustrates the gruesome reality of human nature, that she echoes the subconscious mind to her
bedtime story.
Granted under the idea of theme, the escapades of Once Upon a Time adds on to the primary purpose
of distressed emotion. Gordimer unifies the human nature of fear to her story based on the personal
experience of herself at home. For instance, ..I was reading every faintest sound, identifying and
classifying its possible threat (Gordimer 231). With this in mind, we can correlate to the theme of
society countervailing the excessive obsession of pessimism. As a result, she attentively entices the
audience through her vision of a practical utopian civilization. Exclaiming, There were riots, but these
were outside the city where people of another color were quartered. These people were not allowed in
the suburb.... (Gordimer 232). For this reason, we can infer all her

Bee Husbandry Has A Long Tradition
Bee husbandry has a long tradition throughout the world, with many areas developing their own
unique practices. Some practices have become so successful in their native region that they have been
imported by other regions to facilitate honey and wax production. One region in particular has
developed technology and techniques without which beekeeping would have been significantly
retarded in its development. The Carniolan region of Europe, now in Slovenia, formerly in Yugoslavia
and before that the Austro Hungarian Empire, is home to one of the most successful and rich traditions
of Bee husbandry within the sphere of contemporary knowledge. The Slavic people of Carniola have
developed techniques of disease management, revolutionized hive ... Show more content on

This fact alone speaks to the depth of the Slovenian beekeeping tradition, but that is only the
beginning of the story. While the rest of Europe were using the traditional straw skep hive
(Supplementary Figure S1), Carniolan beekeepers were using their wooden bee houses
(Supplementary Figure S2) which contained multiple reusable hives composed of movable frames
(Rojina, 1917). The impact these hives had when Slovenian beekeeper Anton Jansa introduced them to
the broader Austro Hungarian Empire was massive. Apiary production soared, the total value of
Austria s production alone multiplying by five times in a year (Rojina, 1917). Traditional skep hives
were destroyed, and the bee colony along with them, during the harvesting process. Additionally, they
were hotbeds of disease because they could not be opened for inspection or treatment. The Carniolan
hive allowed easy inspection and treatment, as well as permitted harvesting without destroying the bee
colony. These hives were the forerunners of today s most common hive, the Langstroth. These
accomplishments of Carniolan culture were generated by both the landed gentry and the common
farmer, but the main subject of this essay, the painted hive panels, truly transcended class as a form of
expression even the poorest beekeeper could indulge in. In Slovenia, there is one man whom is
celebrated as the greatest beekeeper in history, and his name is Anton Jansa (1734 1773) (Rojina,

The Rise and Fall of the Warrant Chief System in the Cross...
INTRODUCTION
Prior to the advent of the British Colonialists to our shores more than four hundred years ago, the
traditional institutions held sway as the organisational structure around which the socio political,
cultural, administrative and economic life of the people revolved. It was therefore, not surprising that
the colonialists who came to exploit us with their imperial motives and to imposed their own social
order on the indigenous existing nationalities that later coalesced into the present day Nigeria, found it
expedient to enlist the support and cooperation of traditional rulers in securing their hold on the
conquered territories.
Indeed, the traditional rulers proved so indispensable in this regard that where non seemed to have ...

This was a very crude version of indirect rule. To this extent, many Warrant Chiefs solely constituted
colonially backed usurpers of power and had little or no legitimacy beyond the fact of them being
installed by the colonial state. Without any pedigree and claim to traditional legitimacy, they held to
power and used it for their own parochial ends.
THE WORKINGS OF THE WARRANT CHIEF SYSTEM.
The Warrant Chiefs main source of power was the control of Native Courts and of labour, for
example, for colonial road and waterways constructions.4 These artificially created chiefs were given
the authority to arrest and detain people who committed offences; and debtors who could not meet
their financial obligations owed to others. They also acted as tax collectors for the Colonial masters.
Native courts were graded A to D according to the Native Court Ordinance No.44 of 1933, with Grade
A courts empowered with full judicial powers including capital powers, each subsequent grade having
diminished capabilities. In the Eastern Region, there were no Grade A Courts, 5 at Grade B(divided
between Calabar and Onitsha), 54 at Grade C(of which29 were in Ogoja province), 492 at Grade D
(with 93 in Ogoja) as well as 45 Native Appeal Courts ,each also possessing status as courts of the
first instance. Of these, 12 were in Ogoja province.5 As the courts grew in number

An Analysis Of A Letter To An Immigrant
We are writing this letter as a personal reference for Mr.
He had informed my husband Rene Milian Lopez and I Magdalena Hernandez Cabrera, that he is in
the process of suing his landlord for wanting to kick him out of his house due to his age and the
amount of years he s lived in that property. My husband and I both concede that that is preposterous.
Nobody has the right to remove a person out of their home, even if they re the landlord without a
cohesive reason. The seven years, our family has lived across the street from... house, we have
observed his calm, conscientious, and welcoming persona. Throughout the years we ve never noticed
any complaints from his neighbors, arguing/fights, and bad neighborly conduct. We can both agree

completely different men who journey through life s challenges and obstacles on two diverse paths. It
s title represents a nonfictional story of deep pain and difficult circumstances about how two men who
have nothing in common, can come together regardless of their skin color or social ranking and search
for their different meanings in life together as if they were family. And though they were completely
different on the outside, on the inside they were the same because they had very relatable
circumstances and challenges throughout their lives because they both lost the ones they loved the

Aeneas And Jesus Analysis
Aeneas and Jesus: More Alike Than One Would Think
The Aeneid focuses on the founding of Rome by Aeneas, a pious Trojan who has escaped the falling
of Troy. Aeneas demonstrates pietas, the devotion to one s family, mission, and homeland. Like
Aeneas, Jesus in The Gospel of Matthew possesses pietas as he constantly shows dedication to his
people, fate, and country. Each fulfills his duties, whether it is through finding his people s new land
or spreading the word of his god. The cultures the authors lived in during the time the texts were
written shaped their literary figures beliefs and actions. Aeneas and Jesus both have variations of
pietas. Aeneas depicts the familial component of having pietas in a literal sense; he makes sure he
leaves none of his family behind as he escapes the destruction of his homeland. One example is when
he carries his father on his back out of the burning walls of their city, Troy (Aeneid, 51). When his
father is persistent that he cannot leave, Aeneas does not leave him behind, but ... Show more content

Like Aeneas, Jesus is the messiah of his people; he is the anointed one. This is shown when an angel
of the Lord says to Joseph, ...for he will save his people form their sins (Matthew 1:21). He protects
and loves the Judean people and honors the special covenant between them and God. Jesus saves the
people of Judea by his teachings. By spreading the word of God, he rescues them both spiritually and
physically. He heals the lame and blind, and interprets Judean law in the manner of what God deems a
perfect man should. Both Aeneas and Jesus lead their people from oppression and unblessed death;
Aeneas leads the remaining Trojans out of their burning city to avoid being violently murdered or
enslaved by Greek forces, and Jesus saves his people from political oppression by their non Judean
leaders by guiding them to a righteous

Twelfth Night and Pygmalion
The play Twelfth Night is set in a Elizabethan country household in a place called Illyria. Illyria is a
fictional place. Although the setting felt familiar to the audience, the name Illyria gave it a feeling of
escape from reality, something that was important because everyday life could be tough in those days.
The people needed an escape from reality sometimes. In this play we meet the upper class, as well as
the lower class. It is not certain whether it really is twelfth night , but there are several things in this
play that suggest that it might well be the twelfth night. The twelfth night is on the 6th of January, a
night where the servants and other low class figures get to change place with their superiors. The

I think the audience liked it that way, very straight to the point. The audience of a typical Shakespeare
play has a wide social range. All kinds of people, from ambassadors to apprentices came to watch
them. The audience loved the special use of, and play with language, and the rapid pace on stage. The
culture of an audience at that time was very oral, the spectators always had a witty comment up their
sleeve and did not hesitate to shout a response to the actors on stage. This made the actors both actors
and people, a certain duality was played at. All of the actors of the Elizabethan time were men. It was
against the law to allow women on stage, at least in the big public plays. Women were by far the
weaker sex, despite of having a queen running the country.
The props used in this play were few but adequate. Both the props and the costumes were well made
and played an important role in making the play successful. Some critics have said that this play is an
attack on Puritanism, where Malvolio represents the puritan who is quite disliked by everybody
around him. The name malvolio bears a strong resemblance to the Latin words mal voglio , which
means ill will. Maybe it is because the character Malvolio is so self absorbed and gullible, that
Shakespeare gave him this particular name? Maybe the critics were partly right? Another important

J. Alfred Prufrock Research Paper
During the time period of modernism, society saw a massive shift, especially from the everyday life of
people in the cities. With improvements being made in transportation and technology this shifted the
way of life to a much faster pace, shrinking the distances between people around the world thus
creating a more rapid pace of life. The emphasis on radical innovations left many people will feelings
of despair, a sense of meaninglessness, and hopelessness. With the ever growing developments to
society, a lack of traditional and cultural norms and beliefs in closely held faiths were strained. These
concepts were much illustrated in the literature of the time. Literary figures such as T.S Eliot
flawlessly depicted the perception of the troubles of the modern man in his poem The Lovesong of J.
Alfred Prufrock, while also integrating the new way of looking and appreciating life will all the good

identifies with his Indian tribe in the sense that he lives on a reservation and the fact that he comes

his poor ass family on the poor ass Spokane Indian Reservation (7). Junior identifies with his
Caucasian side because he goes to an all white school and because of his intelligence. Petrified wood
is not wood (84). Junior then goes on to explain how it works and the smartest kid in the class, Gordy,
explains that he is right when the teacher doesn t believe him. Junior s Caucasian identity overpowers
his Indian identity because Caucasians in general are more privileged and are smarter than the kids at
Junior s old school, Welpinit. Based off many aspects of Junior s conditions and ethnic background,
other people and Junior have expectations of what his future will look like. An internal expectation
that Junior has of himself is that he will follow the continuing cycle of his family. He believes he ll

What s the difference between a dictator and a bully? One runs a country and the other runs a school.
People honestly need to understand bullying and dictatorship are a lot alike. A bully runs a school with
the same iron fist a dictator has. They also both use fear as a way to overcome their enemies. So what
are the actual differences and similarities between bullies and dictators? Well, the main differences
between a bully and a dictator are age and location. A bully is usually younger and usually is found in
schools. Whereas a dictator is older and runs a country. They both, however have the same goal and
that is to controlling someone or something. That s why they are both considered cruel people. Bullies

The impact of culture is very important when it comes to attempting and achieving personal goals and

managers are trying to set the culture they have to set the example. Physical manifestations such as

This is if The Walking Dead follows the same story line that the comic books did, which they have

One theory is that Steven Yeun could be simply there filming flashbacks. If he was doing that, then
Yeun would not have been spotted with Paul and at Hilltop. This one would be pretty hard for them to

Developing A Plan For Career Success
Creating Your Career Plan
Developing a plan for career success can be described as journey of self discovery. Many leaders have
taken time to understand in depth their leadership skills by consistently refining skill sets but also
always looking to better one self. To achieve our goals in leadership, one must develop one s skills and
construct a career plan to guide them to their goals. In the class Applying Leadership Principles, we
have taken time to learn about what defines a leader and how that applies to each of us in the class.
Today I will be using the skills learned over the last eight weeks to develop a career plan. I will start
by using the career center as a beginning resource to evaluate my career path, reflect on my personal
career and where I would like to be in the future, identify strengths, and align those strengths with
communication skills and problem solving skills. I will describe my career path; develop my plan of
what leadership approach I believe will help me achieve those goals.
Using the Career Center
Online learning has proven to a be a preferred method of learning for many adult learners as it offers
the ability to finish a degree meanwhile maintaining a career, a family, and other obligations outside of
the classroom. The benefits include allowing a student to log into a classroom when it is convenient
and accelerated schedules with less classes at a time than the traditional brick and mortar classes. One

information will be wrong.
People
People are involved in obtaining data and processing it to create information for specific purposes
relevant to the business. Staff need to have the correct training and skills to get the most out of
information systems and make them effective employees to get information and process it properly.

How Do Genre Affect The Culture Of Horror Films
From bloody massacres to demonic possessions, the genre of horror has come a long way, todays
horror movies have a variety of things in common with horror movies from the early 1900s. Although
horror movies have been around for decades, they ve changed through out the years. From extreme
gore and gushing blood to edge full suspenseful horror; horror movies have different and unique
styles. Described as an intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust (Horror Film History 2001). Horror is
an ancient work of art that formally originated through story telling amongst different cultures. The
majority of horror films get their ideas or concepts through ancient horror folk stories. German
folklore had a huge impact on the genre of horror with its explicit genre of gothic horror throughout
the 1700s. German expressionism was a form of cinema that rose across Europe showcasing distorted
reality with the expression of emotion. A new genre was born, silent films came around the early

Watershed Poster Summary
Poster Summary: I chose to review the poster entitled Discovery of the Arkansas Darter in Cow Creek
Watershed, Cherokee County, SE Kansas presented by Dr. James Whitney of Pittsburg State
University. Dr. Whitney and others conducted a survey of the fish communities of the Cow Creek
watershed in southeastern Kansas. A total of 29 sites were surveyed within the watershed which is
highly modified as the result of agriculture. Sites were surveyed from February to November of 2017
using back pack electrofishing as well as seining. The Arkansas Darter (Etheostoma cragini), a state
threatened species, was collected at 3 of the 29 sites during the study. Previously, the species was only

The creators of this poster did an excellent job in creating a presentation that allowed for the viewers
gaze to easily flow across the content of the poster in a manner that aided in the viewers ability to
interpret the poster. The aspect of this poster that I found most appealing was the use of images and
the minimal amount of text used. Posters with excessive text appear daunting to the viewer and the
meaning of the results is easily lost under the mass of text. I particularly found the neatly constructed
map at the center of the poster to be helpful in aiding my understanding of the significance of this
range expansion. Also, the placement of this map in the center of the poster immediately draws the
viewers attention to a depiction of the key results that the authors are trying to convey. The only
poorly constructed aspect of this poster was the images of the Arkansas Darter. These images were
dark and somewhat out of focus which made them difficult to analyze. Overall this was a very well
put together poster that was easily interpreted and pleasing to

Legacy System Essay
Introduction
The term legacy system has distinct meanings for different individuals. For numerous people, it
describes archaic mainframe or dumb terminal software programs from the 1970s and 1980s (Weber,
2006). To other individuals, it may infer the client/server applications from the 1990s or web
applications from the late 1990s (Weber, 2006). The chief point is that each one of these distinct
architectures presents different risks that must be thoroughly understood and properly managed
(Weber, 2006).
The aim of this research is to assess security risks with legacy systems. Research has uncovered that in
spite of the information technology (IT) industry s diligence to advance the model of operating

In the fiscal period from year 2000 to 2004, Allergan Inc. has seen a continuous rise in sales and
profits. In the year ended 2004, net income reached a high of $377 million and there is certainly no
reason to believe that number won t continue to grow . Although most of our company s sales comes
from our line of eye care pharmaceuticals, It is the BOTOX/neuromodulators line that sees the most
promise in growth.
With 80% of our BOTOX products being used for cosmetic purposes, a great market potential is seen

For Allergan, the current legal environment in Korea is favorable for marketing many of its products.
With pricing regulations, Allergan won t have to worry about tough price competition from domestic
companies. Although intellectual property laws are more complex in Korea, there is little worry for the
BOTOX line which currently doesn t even have a patent in the U.S. The process of making BOTOX is
complicated and only known to Allergan. Even without a patent, there is little chance of other
companies cultivating their own process of making similar products.

Human Resources: Tough Labor Laws Handling distribution of Allergan products in South Korea will
be crucial in a successful operation, requiring a significant amount of labor. While Korea s workforce
is well educated and hardworking, foreign investment into the country is impeded by some of the most
stringent labor laws in the world. According to a Swiss based international institute that ranked 60

very volatile relations between the labor force and management2. Much of South Korea s labor laws

Summary Of Build An Ark
promised Noah that he and his family would not be destroyed with the evil people. Build an Ark God
told Noah. When he finished you and your sons and your wife and your son s wives will go into the
Ark, God added. You will live there until the flood is over. God told him to bring one male and female
of every kind of animal into the Ark and enough food for all the people and the animals.
It is believed that Noah had Granddaughters. But if so then why did they not go into the Ark. From
what I can understand Noah s three granddaughters married wicked men and forsake the house of their
fathers. They joined the wicked and their father s beliefs. So they were punished as the wicked were
punished and drowned in the flood.

So more than likely Satan wanted Jonah dead for many reasons but mainly: 1) He saw that Jonah was
going to be a prophet of the Lord. 2) That Jonah saved hundreds and probably thousands from wrath

The number of years Noah was building the Ark. How many years did it take him? How did you come
to this conclusion? The bible doesn t really say how long it took, but it was less than one hundred and
twenty years. (Genesis 5:32, 6:4, and 7:6) Some people have made the claim that this passage means
that it took Noah one hundred and twenty years to build the Ark. Even given the Ark s massive scale.
(Roughly four hundred and fifty feet long by seventy five feet wide by forty feet high), one hundred
and twenty years seems like an excessively long time to take to build the Ark. Most biblical scholars
agree that God was saying the he was giving mankind, one hundred and twenty years in which to
repent, after which would come judgement for their wickedness. This means that Noah had one
hundred and twenty years warning before the flood. We can reasonably assume that God gave Noah
the blueprints for the Ark at this

machine is the steam engine. The steam engine helped revolutionize the world with its technology and
fast transportation, it was even faster than horses. It also was one of the leading causes into starting the
Industrial Revolution. The steam engine helped in daily lives and was mandatory in the workplace it
also was one of the reasons for the start of the Industrial Revolution.
One of first steam engines was called The Miner s Friend because it worked in the mines.

Both these sides are very different, but in some ways they are similar.

A good business plan is not only important in developing the opportunity but also essential in
determining the resources required, obtaining those resources and successfully managing the resulting
venture. Running a Business is both exciting and challenging. It requires to develop business tools for
the better with proven advice and successful strategies for small business, plus practical guidance on
how to find business funding, chose a business idea, or get your business up and running. Many
people these days prefer to open their own business but they need to do a detailed research and
consider practical things to gain the confidence of starting it in this competitive world. I recently came
across one of my family friends who is running small business in mobile truck shopping named as
Easy Shop in Auckland. Mobile truck shops trawl around different areas, selling to families door to
door. He is in his late 20 s and graduate in business administration and has been running this business
with a team of 5 for 3 years. He is a smart business runner and confident about his marketing and
strategic skills but is presently struggling to get enough profit out of his business and compete with the
potential big competitors like Home Direct and Good Guys in the market. He started off quite well
and managed to reach the profit intersection within 2 years but profits started to fall in the 3rd year

Their Eyes Were Watching God Decisions.... Anyone who s ever read Their Eyes Were Watching God

relationship? I ve come to the conclusion that Janie is better off in a relationship with Tea Cake
because in the book, he teaches her to appreciate herself, he is responsible and tells the truth, and he
allows her to have fun. One reason Janie is better off with Tea Cake is the fact that Tea Cake
repeatedly teaches her to appreciate herself. Tea Cake and Mrs. Mayor Starks! All the men that she
could get, and fooling with somebody like Tea Cake (Hurston 110) ! This is a classic example of peer
pressure; Janie handles it herself and avoids the larger crowd. She trusted her gut and went with Tea

Aryan Imperialism
Hitler had special plans for Denmark. He regarded Denmark as a fellow Aryan nation that shared its
Nordic roots with Germany. According to Nazi ideology s scale of racial standing, the Aryan race
represented by the German elite was superior. The Nordic race was a close second and the most
authoritative dogmatists [including Alfred Rosenberg and Joseph Goebbels] of the Nazi creed have
repeatedly pointed to Scandinavia as the true home of the glorious Nordic race. In addition, Hitler also
believed specifically that the peninsula that makes up the majority of Denmark, the Jutland, was
mythically the ancestral home of the Nordic race. Denmark would therefore not be treated like another

advisors in Berlin, Hitler adopted the idea that Denmark had become too defiant and uncooperative in
its role as a protectorate. According to several German officials, such as Gestapo senior official Rudolf
Mildner, And ever since then Hitler hated Denmark. Ribbentrop ordered Renthe Fink to deliver a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Illusory Causation
In the justice system, the verdicts are not always fair as innocent people are convicted of crimes they
did not commit. Over the years, there have been innovative ways to overturn a conviction by
providing new evidence. The lack of evidence or the coerce evidence against a subject can lead to
their wrongful conviction. Many believe that having video recordings of interrogations will prevent
the wrongful decisions, yet it is a disadvantage as the camera is focused on the offender. This is due to
the causation discovered between the focus point of the video and the final verdict in court cases.
These findings demonstrate illusory causation and how it plays out in the courtroom. Illusory
causation is the phenomenon in which one specific event ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second stage of research consisted of three studies with different time length confessions. There
were two purposes for this stage (1) explore the possibilities to prevent camera influence and (2)
outline the issues of external validity such as the end judgment. Given several pieces of evidence, the
participants focused on the video taken to determine if the offender is guilty or not guilty. Researchers
revealed that the camera point of view will be the focus point regardless of the other evidence
provided. Also highlighted in the second stage is the probability of a guilty verdict increasing based on
the camera s focus point; the likelihood of a guilty verdict will double when the camera focuses on the
subject (Lassiter, 2001). The final stage of the research was like the last two although concentrating on
another aspect. The purpose of the stage was to focus on the mechanisms that are used in illusory
causation. The conclusion is that the causation relies on the perception of one rather than the analysis
of the footage. It was noted that the point of view of the participant will impact the way they register
the information and it will influence their judgment on the case. For example, the subjects may watch
the video over and over but the brain will only focus on the movements instead of what is said. When
it comes to the verdict, it will be based on the movements because the brain cannot recall the audio
portion (Lassiter, 2001).

May 3, 2017 Their Eyes Were Watching God In this story, I have found that the themes that have stood
out to me is gender and love. These themes have captured a major thematic idea by gender being
discriminated against the women and the men. Gender is described as women being weaker than the
men and men being the powerful ones. Love is described in this story as independent until it is found.
Finding love is a part of life and everybody tries to find it but when it is found, it seems like you have
lived you life to the fullest. These examples of the themes can be brought into the real world and can
affect how people live their lives.
My first theme is going to be about gender. In the novel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gender can happen in the real world which can lead to personal experiences. I have experienced some
gender inequality throughout my life and have had family situations since I have been alive. For
instance, my parents lived in a time where men went to work and the women had to clean, cook, and
stuff around the house. I have experienced some problems myself by my brother and I having to do
outside yard work while my sister only does inside work. She claims that yard work is for men and it s
a man s job. . What I have to say about that is that men and women don t need to do work based off if
it is a man or woman s job, work is work and you shouldn t base it off gender inequality. Another
situation I was faced with was when my mom was trying to get a job, she was trying to get a job at
selling Tupperware. She was faced with you can t sell Tupperware because you are a woman and
people don t buy stuff off of women. . She sticked with her gut and went for it, now she is very
successful in her business and doesn t let what a guy said to her stop her.
Another theme I chose from the story was love. Love can be a powerful thing or a devastating thing.
For example, After that she came to where Joe Starks was waiting for her with a hired rig. He was
very solemn and helped her to the seat beside him. With him on it, it sat like some high, ruling chair.

The Causes And Consequences Of The Vocide Of Native Americans
Christopher Columbus was a man who led an expedition in which he discovered the lands of America
in the late 1400s. He and his fellow Europeans had traveled to different lands before where they
overthrew native peoples with a mission to spread their own religion and an attitude of superiority.
The Indians had never before encountered people of a different culture. Although the two parties were
of the same species, they were vastly different in language, clothing, technology, and lifestyle. When
the Spaniards first arrived, they were unthreatened by the Indians and looked at them with a strong
sense of condescension. The Indians, on the other hand, welcomed these strangers and bestowed
generous gifts upon them. The Spanish thought the Indians were foolish and were not as generous in
their reciprocation of such gifts. However as the encounter progressed, the Spaniards became more
threatened by the Indians. Because of this, they antagonize the entire race of people. They believe they
are all evil and less human. They respond to their actions with great violence and contempt, while
stripping the Indians of their dignity. The Indians, in turn, react defensively, also with violence
(Todorov). After decades of conflict, the exchange ultimately results in the complete genocide of the
Indian population. In this particular encounter, there exists two parties, both of the same species but
with great differences. There is also one party, the Spaniards, aware of the others existence and that
actively pursued this encounter. The Indians, however, were unaware that other societies and worlds
existed beyond their own and were sabotaged by the surprise arrival of the Europeans. The
conquistadors had previous encounters with other people different from their own. From these prior
experiences, they had expectations to come to America and use its resources and people to their own
advantage. They had also already established through previous endeavors, that groups and races of
people different from their own could not be seen as equals. They identify these groups as Others, that
are inferior and less intelligent (Todorov). This already creates a dilemma referred to as the double
movement. If Columbus and the Europeans sought

Charles Babbbage Research Paper
Charles Babbage was born on December 26, 1791, somewhere in the vicinity of London, England.
Babbage s family was made up of father Benjamin a wealthy bank owner; mother Elizabeth, sister
Mary Anne, and two brothers who died in early childhood. Babbage showed an early interest in
human like machines as his mother would take him to museums and amusement halls famous for
housing these machines in the early 1800s (Isaacson 18 19). Here, Babbage saw a robot woman who
seemed to dance with a grace that only a human could hold, and he was quoted as saying, her eyes

Babbage had heard of God through Scriptures and Bible Stories he was told as a child, and he made
up his mind to trust in the Lord as the Creator and Ruler of all things. The Analytical Society as a
whole also agreed on this, and the men in the group, including Babbage, devoted their careers to
proving the existence of God as well as to Scientific Achievement ( Charles Babbage 4). Now, during
the early stages of the Industrial Revolution the idea of atheistic science began to rise, as did the
careers of scientists like Charles Darwin. The side opposing this atheistic perspective was known as
Natural Theology. Babbage was a strong supporter of this supporter and its belief that the design of
nature required a Designer, and that this Designer was God. He was a part of a project later in his life
known as the Bridgewater Treatises that was a collection of writings attempting to advance the
popularity of Natural Theology. In these papers, it is obvious that Babbage s ultimate goal was to
connect the world of mathematics and science to Scripture ( Babbage 2). Babbage did this by using his
mathematical expertise to prove certain aspects of Scripture and to argue against atheist scientists,
mainly David Hume ( Babbage 3). As his career progressed, Babbage began to conform to the
atheistic ideas of science at the time; however, he seemed to return to his roots as, at age seventy three,
he stated, [...] the belief in the existence of one Supreme Creator, possessed of infinite wisdom and
power, is open to far fewer difficulties than the supposition of the absence of any cause, or of the
existence of a plurality of causes ( Babbage 4). Here, Babbage looks at theology from a logical point
of view, pointing out how the belief in one Creator is simply more logical than believing in many
different causes of creation. Babbage

My Leadership Style Aligns Closely With Servant Leadership
My leadership style aligns closely to servant leadership. I lead with others in mind. I value everyone s
contributions and regularly seek out opinions. Cultivating a culture of trust is incredibly important to
me. A culture of trust creates a harmonious environment where each person can be appreciated for
their contribution and can feel a sense of personal accomplishment. I do not mind people making
mistakes but I prefer them to learn from their mistakes. I seek to unite all parties in a controversy and
can readily see the validity of alternative points of views. I m exceptionally open minded to untested
or unconventional ideas and have a high tolerance for differences. However, I have enormously low
tolerance for individuals putting their own egos or desires for self promotion ahead of the team. When
I see evidence of people acting in such a manner, I like to address the problem immediately with the
individuals. If the behavior continues after a couple of warnings, these individuals will not continue to
be part of my organization. When my loyalties and values are threatened, I can become very stubborn,
rigid, and demanding. The development of leaders is another key principle for me. I like to teach
others to lead by providing opportunities for learning and growing through example and experience.
The development of leaders requires surrendering power and delegating others to lead. In some

How Does Wilfred Owen Describe the Horrors of War in Dulce...
The First World War was a time of great loss of life and bloodshed. Wilfred Owen, a soldier fighting
with the British Army, wrote the poem Dulce et Decorum est to describe, possibly to the public, the
horrific consequences of taking part and fighting in the war. During the poem, he describes the
aftermath of a poison gas attack, and the injuries sustained by a soldier whom had inhaled the deadly
substance. Owen uses gruesome imagery to vividly show in verse the horrible death the soldier faces,
in the trenches of France. The poem Dulce et Decorum est is widely regarded as one of the greatest
war poems ever written, and is a fine example of an anti war protest in the form of poetry.
The title of the poem is taken from an ode from a Roman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slight confusion can actually be perceived, as the ecstasy of fumbling ensues, with the soldiers
obviously struggling to fit the clumsy helmets just in time. This just in time part implies that everyone
is okay, and has successfully put on their gas mask before the gas started to work its chilling effects.
However, one soldier unfortunately fails to apply his mask, as is told as he was yelling out and
stumbling...flound ring like a man in fire or lime. The horrible sight is witnessed by the narrator, dim,
through the misty panes (of the mask) and thick green light, which is actually the hazy, slightly
luminescent fluid that hangs around them, probably chlorine gas. It is described as a green sea in the
next line, and so I think that this is a reference to the huge area it would cover, blighting anyone who
crossed within the vicinity. The simile which compares the man s actions to one who would be in fire
or lime is describing his desperate attempts in vain to help himself. Lime is a substance that would
burn human tissue, much like acid.
The narrator tells of how he sees the man drowning and then of how he constantly dreams about the
wretched being, in all my dreams, before my helpless sight, he plunges at me, guttering, choking,
drowning. The victim would have experienced a sensation likened to that of drowning, as the gas
inflames the lungs and takes up the space that

conferences. In this essay, I will explain the Comstock era and the role Woodhull and Claflin played in
it. I will also talk about how free love is part of U.S. politics how it relates to feminism in the 21st
century. The Comstock era was when the Comstock law was passed in 1873 and was part of a
campaign for legislating public morality. The purpose of this law was to stop the trade in obscenity
literatures and immoral articles. It also was towards birth control usage, abortion, and human
sexuality. If you were caught using it or selling it you would be sentenced to jail. Also, during this
time the industrial revolution was making a large number of jobs available to members of both sexes,
and women were taking advantage of this opportunity by entering the workforce in large numbers.
Victoria and Tennie were extremely active in the politics of the United States. Between the two sisters,
there are a lot of firsts. They were the first female stockbrokers, the first women to own a newspaper.
Tennie was the first woman to hold an official rank in the military, and Victoria was the

George W. Bush Intervention In Iraq
Ramesh Thakur is an assistant secretary general of the UN and he was also one of the authors of the
R2P. He stated that a state which, is intervening in other state with the use of force without UN
authorization is violating international law (Thakur, 2004). US employed the notion of humanitarian
intervention in the case of Iraq to justify the actions; however, US did not have the support of
international community to intervene in Iraq. In addition, there is a notion of paternalistic belief put
forth by Partha Chatterjee wherein, powerful nations feel that it is their moral duty to protect weaker
nations (Thakur, 2004). There were several reasons for George W. Bush to intervene in Iraq that failed
the test of an R2P type intervention. Bush wanted to take revenge on Saddam s failed attempt to
assassinate him (Thakur, 2004). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grievances emerged from 9/11 required to eradicate Saddam s regime due to the threat of Saddam
s connections with Osama bin Laden (Thakur, 2004). The geopolitical presence in the region of US,
oil, and fear of weapons of mass destructions were another reasons strongly emerging that also
contributed to militarily intervening in Iraq (Thakur, 2004). These were some of the reasons that
enabled US to consolidate their position to intervene in Iraq. However, it is argued these are the true
reasons that highlights the urgency of endorsing the language of R2P on the grounds that US wants to
protect Iraqi civilians from Saddam s cruel treatment. However, the mains reasons of intervening in
Iraq for US were for their own self interested power politics which, are barriers from applying R2P s
objective to protect human

Mad Love Character Analysis
The Batman Adventures Mad Love Deluxe Edition by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, is a graphic action
comic of the Joker trying to accomplish his ultimate goal of taking down Batman. Alongside the Joker
is Harley Quinn, who has falling for the Joker and is sick and tired of Batman getting in the way of her
and her Puddin (the Joker), and decides to take matters into her own hands. Scenes throughout the
graphic novel display the abusive relationship between the Joker and Harley and how she accepts to
be abused and mistreated because she loves him. Though the graphic novel is comical, it presents the
audience with images of male dominance and female submission, with the Joker and Harley.
In the first scene of the comic, the Joker and Harley are planning to kill the Police Commissioner, but
then Batman come in to save him. When Batman arrives Harley sprays him with some type of gas and
she becomes the dominant one in the scene, until the Joker gets angry and yells at her and starts
pulling her out of the room by her joker hat. Devor s statement of Such an alternative conception of
gender roles captures the hierarchical and competitive masculine thirst for power, which can, but need
not, lead to aggression... (390 91) is displayed in this scene. The Joker says I GIVE THE
PUNCHLINES AROUND HERE...GOT IT? to Harley after spraying Batman with the gas and saying
That s a real GASSER, huh, Mr.J? The Joker s thirst for power, especially with Batman, leads to
aggression because giving

The Music of Chaka Khan
You know the name the hair and smile but most of all you know the voice. Chaka Khan is a pioneer in
the music world and others inspire to be like her. Chaka Khan was born March 23, 1953 as Yvette
Marie Stevens in Chicago, Illinois at Great Lakes Naval Base Hospital. She stepped into the music
world in the 1970s. Her first music group called the Crystalettes was formed when she was 11 with
her sister Yvonne and two other girls from their neighborhood. The group was influenced by Khan s
musical inspirations Billie Holiday and Gladys knight. Later in the years the sisters joined the Affro

as Shades of black while being with the theatre. In 1968, a Yoruba priest renames her Chaka Adunne
Aduffe Yemoja Hodarhi Karifi and her sister is renamed Taka Boom. In 1969, Khan became very
active in the black power movement by joining the Black Panther party. She worked on the
organization s free breakfast program for children. She drops out of school and she sings with the
groups Lyfe, Lock Chain, and Huey The Babysitters. Finally she joins the band Ask Rufus whose
name is taken from a fishing magazine column. The band is discovered by producer Bob Monaco
while he was scouting groups at a Chicago club. She became Chaka Khan when she married bassist
Hassan Khan in 1970. After hearing Chaka sing, Monaco proclaims I thought I d heard the next Aretha

  • 2. Discuss How Sherriff Presents Human Weakness and Frailty... Discuss how Sherriff presents human weakness and frailty in Journeys End Journeys End was written with the intention of letting the war speak . The lives of the officers on the front line during 1917 are examined. A key theme that is explored throughout the play is the reactions of the mind and body, under the stress of the war. Each character represents the weakness of the human being in an individual way, but the character on which frailty is mainly focussed is Stanhope. Stanhope is the topic of many conversations within the dugout and the first conversation we see, Stanhope is mentioned. The conversation is between Osborne, the second in command, and the commanding officer of the company being relieved. The commander inquires as to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sherriff shows this to the audience by having Raleigh describe the war like a game at school, using words such as cricket and rugger , which show the youth, innocence and naivety of Raleigh. When the reality becomes clear, Raleigh s attitude towards the war changes dramatically. The death of Raleigh at the end of the play sums up his characteristics in the best possible way, his innocence is shown until his final moments when he compares the wound in his back to be just the same as getting kicked in a game of rugger . His death signifies much more than the passing of one soldier, added with Raleigh passing, the candle flame extinguishing, shows the death of society in 1917 and of innocence, showing how nothing could return to the way it was in the years previous to the war. After the raid which occurs near the end of the play, Raleigh s view on the war has changed after he witnesses the first deaths of people he knew. He questions as to how Stanhope can stay drinking champagne whilst Osborne s body is lying out there . Again this shows the audience just how naïve Raleigh is, as he has never experienced the loss of someone close to him and the effect that the war has on people. Despite Raleigh s innocence and weakness, he is determined to fight until the end, showing that his character (although naïve) has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Social And Social Identity Theory Originally proposed by Tajfel and Turner, the Social Identity Theory (SIT) can be described as the comparison between the individual self and the social self. More specifically, it is the individual s perception that is derived from their membership of a social group (ingroups and outgroups) or personal identities. The theory is divided into three different psychological mechanisms: social categorization, social comparison, and the tendency for people to use the group membership as a source to gain self esteem. A theory is defined as a theory as long as it meets the two requirements: describing behaviors and the ability to describe/see the future behaviors of individuals. Since the behaviors of individuals can be based on the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Individuals tend to over exaggerate the differences between the outgroups and outgroups, while they exaggerate the similarities between the ingroups. The Social Identity Theory demonstrates reliability in that it provides an explanation for intergroup behaviors such as stereotypes. The theory is demonstrated within the study of Sherif et al (1954). The study was carried out in order to observe the creation of groups, attitudes, and the norms of the groups through group activities. Sherif intended to observe the reactions and attitudes between the individuals when there are two separate groups (realistic conflict theory). The researchers had 22 boys with similar backgrounds and boys in the age group of 11 12 years old. Boys were divided into two separate groups before the experiment began and the researchers used single blind study in that the boys did not realize that they were participating in an experiment; the boys were there to attend a summer camp. The two groups were divided and each group participated in team bonding activities and the boys had created their distinctive identity as members of the Eagles or members of the Rattlers. Researchers created a game in which only one group benefited in order to create conflict between the two groups. Unlike the decent start in the beginning, the members of each group portrayed ... • 4. The Theme Of Paranoia In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time Beyond the elements of any story, there is always a reevaluation about life or central characters. Theme always includes a statement upon the notation of abstract qualities through the embodiment of the writer. As presented in Once Upon a Time, the central insight to the plot suffices to the crude development of the character who overcompensates the emotion of paranoia, executed by the natural dangers of the outside world. Author Nadine Gordimer generalizes the concept of the psychosis based on the parallelism between the fear of the character to the fear of the mother in her dream. Notably, she illustrates the gruesome reality of human nature, that she echoes the subconscious mind to her bedtime story. Granted under the idea of theme, the escapades of Once Upon a Time adds on to the primary purpose of distressed emotion. Gordimer unifies the human nature of fear to her story based on the personal experience of herself at home. For instance, ..I was reading every faintest sound, identifying and classifying its possible threat (Gordimer 231). With this in mind, we can correlate to the theme of society countervailing the excessive obsession of pessimism. As a result, she attentively entices the audience through her vision of a practical utopian civilization. Some practices have become so successful in their native region that they have been imported by other regions to facilitate honey and wax production. One region in particular has developed technology and techniques without which beekeeping would have been significantly retarded in its development. This fact alone speaks to the depth of the Slovenian beekeeping tradition, but that is only the beginning of the story. While the rest of Europe were using the traditional straw skep hive (Supplementary Figure S1), Carniolan beekeepers were using their wooden bee houses (Supplementary Figure S2) which contained multiple reusable hives composed of movable frames (Rojina, 1917). The impact these hives had when Slovenian beekeeper Anton Jansa introduced them to the broader Austro Hungarian Empire was massive. Apiary production soared, the total value of Austria s production alone multiplying by five times in a year (Rojina, 1917). Traditional skep hives were destroyed, and the bee colony along with them, during the harvesting process. Additionally, they were hotbeds of disease because they could not be opened for inspection or treatment. The Carniolan hive allowed easy inspection and treatment, as well as permitted harvesting without destroying the bee colony. These hives were the forerunners of today s most common hive, the Langstroth. These accomplishments of Carniolan culture were generated by both the landed gentry and the common farmer, but the main subject of this essay, the painted hive panels, truly transcended class as a form of expression even the poorest beekeeper could indulge in. INTRODUCTION Prior to the advent of the British Colonialists to our shores more than four hundred years ago, the traditional institutions held sway as the organisational structure around which the socio political, cultural, administrative and economic life of the people revolved. It was therefore, not surprising that the colonialists who came to exploit us with their imperial motives and to imposed their own social order on the indigenous existing nationalities that later coalesced into the present day Nigeria, found it expedient to enlist the support and cooperation of traditional rulers in securing their hold on the conquered territories. Aeneas demonstrates pietas, the devotion to one s family, mission, and homeland. Like Aeneas, Jesus in The Gospel of Matthew possesses pietas as he constantly shows dedication to his people, fate, and country. Each fulfills his duties, whether it is through finding his people s new land or spreading the word of his god. The cultures the authors lived in during the time the texts were written shaped their literary figures beliefs and actions. Aeneas and Jesus both have variations of pietas. Aeneas depicts the familial component of having pietas in a literal sense; he makes sure he leaves none of his family behind as he escapes the destruction of his homeland. The culture of an audience at that time was very oral, the spectators always had a witty comment up their sleeve and did not hesitate to shout a response to the actors on stage. This made the actors both actors and people, a certain duality was played at. All of the actors of the Elizabethan time were men. It was against the law to allow women on stage, at least in the big public plays. Women were by far the weaker sex, despite of having a queen running the country. The props used in this play were few but adequate. Both the props and the costumes were well made and played an important role in making the play successful. Some critics have said that this play is an attack on Puritanism, where Malvolio represents the puritan who is quite disliked by everybody around him. • 23. Legacy System Essay Introduction The term legacy system has distinct meanings for different individuals. For numerous people, it describes archaic mainframe or dumb terminal software programs from the 1970s and 1980s (Weber, 2006). To other individuals, it may infer the client/server applications from the 1990s or web applications from the late 1990s (Weber, 2006). The chief point is that each one of these distinct architectures presents different risks that must be thoroughly understood and properly managed (Weber, 2006). The aim of this research is to assess security risks with legacy systems. OMH s legacy EMR application was developed with Microsoft Visual Basic version 6, which has been sunsetted by Microsoft. In house conversion of this application would be a colossal. To reduce this burden, OMH is leveraging the open source system used by the United States Veteran Administration (VA), VistA, and then customizing it for their needs (NYS Office of Mental Health, 2014). God told him to bring one male and female of every kind of animal into the Ark and enough food for all the people and the animals. It is believed that Noah had Granddaughters. The number of years Noah was building the Ark. How many years did it take him? How did you come to this conclusion? The bible doesn t really say how long it took, but it was less than one hundred and twenty years. (Roughly four hundred and fifty feet long by seventy five feet wide by forty feet high), one hundred and twenty years seems like an excessively long time to take to build the Ark. Most biblical scholars agree that God was saying the he was giving mankind, one hundred and twenty years in which to repent, after which would come judgement for their wickedness. Over the years, there have been innovative ways to overturn a conviction by providing new evidence. The lack of evidence or the coerce evidence against a subject can lead to their wrongful conviction. Many believe that having video recordings of interrogations will prevent the wrongful decisions, yet it is a disadvantage as the camera is focused on the offender. This is due to the causation discovered between the focus point of the video and the final verdict in court cases. These findings demonstrate illusory causation and how it plays out in the courtroom. The second stage of research consisted of three studies with different time length confessions. There were two purposes for this stage (1) explore the possibilities to prevent camera influence and (2) outline the issues of external validity such as the end judgment. Given several pieces of evidence, the participants focused on the video taken to determine if the offender is guilty or not guilty. Researchers revealed that the camera point of view will be the focus point regardless of the other evidence provided. Also highlighted in the second stage is the probability of a guilty verdict increasing based on the camera s focus point; the likelihood of a guilty verdict will double when the camera focuses on the subject (Lassiter, 2001). The final stage of the research was like the last two although concentrating on another aspect. The purpose of the stage was to focus on the mechanisms that are used in illusory causation. The conclusion is that the causation relies on the perception of one rather than the analysis of the footage. It was noted that the point of view of the participant will impact the way they register the information and it will influence their judgment on the case. He and his fellow Europeans had traveled to different lands before where they overthrew native peoples with a mission to spread their own religion and an attitude of superiority. The Indians had never before encountered people of a different culture. Although the two parties were of the same species, they were vastly different in language, clothing, technology, and lifestyle. When the Spaniards first arrived, they were unthreatened by the Indians and looked at them with a strong sense of condescension. The Indians, on the other hand, welcomed these strangers and bestowed generous gifts upon them. The Spanish thought the Indians were foolish and were not as generous in their reciprocation of such gifts. However as the encounter progressed, the Spaniards became more threatened by the Indians. Because of this, they antagonize the entire race of people. They believe they are all evil and less human. They respond to their actions with great violence and contempt, while stripping the Indians of their dignity. The Indians, in turn, react defensively, also with violence (Todorov). After decades of conflict, the exchange ultimately results in the complete genocide of the Indian population. In this particular encounter, there exists two parties, both of the same species but with great differences. There is also one party, the Spaniards, aware of the others existence and that actively pursued this encounter. The Indians, however, were unaware that other societies and worlds existed beyond their own and were sabotaged by the surprise arrival of the Europeans. The conquistadors had previous encounters with other people different from their own. From these prior experiences, they had expectations to come to America and use its resources and people to their own advantage. They had also already established through previous endeavors, that groups and races of people different from their own could not be seen as equals. They identify these groups as Others, that are inferior and less intelligent (Todorov). This already creates a dilemma referred to as the double movement. If Columbus and the Europeans sought ... The Analytical Society as a whole also agreed on this, and the men in the group, including Babbage, devoted their careers to proving the existence of God as well as to Scientific Achievement ( Charles Babbage 4). Now, during the early stages of the Industrial Revolution the idea of atheistic science began to rise, as did the careers of scientists like Charles Darwin. The side opposing this atheistic perspective was known as Natural Theology. Babbage was a strong supporter of this supporter and its belief that the design of nature required a Designer, and that this Designer was God. He was a part of a project later in his life known as the Bridgewater Treatises that was a collection of writings attempting to advance the popularity of Natural Theology. In these papers, it is obvious that Babbage s ultimate goal was to connect the world of mathematics and science to Scripture ( Babbage 2). Babbage did this by using his mathematical expertise to prove certain aspects of Scripture and to argue against atheist scientists, mainly David Hume ( Babbage 3). As his career progressed, Babbage began to conform to the atheistic ideas of science at the time; however, he seemed to return to his roots as, at age seventy three, he stated, [...] the belief in the existence of one Supreme Creator, possessed of infinite wisdom and power, is open to far fewer difficulties than the supposition of the absence of any cause, or of the existence of a plurality of causes ( Babbage 4).
