Extreme Weather And Heat Waves
The first article or website that I explored was titled Extreme weather. It begins by stating that as the
world has warmed, it has triggered several other things in the earth s climate to be altered. It then
goes further into depth specifically naming the factors that have been changing due to the altering
of the climate. These factors include: heat waves, droughts, heavy downpours, floods, and lastly,
hurricanes (Extreme Weather, 2014).
Heat Waves In this section, a heat wave is referred to as abnormally hot weather lasting days to
weeks . It further goes on to say that the recent number of heat waves have been steadily increasing
with numbers almost triple the long term average (Extreme Weather, 2014). In this section it is
claimed that the droughts in Texas in the year 2011, and in the Midwest in the year of 2012, that
records were set for the highest monthly average temperatures to date (Extreme Weather, 2014).
A picture of a map is provided of the coast to coast 100 degree days in 2011, in conclusion, it is
observable that heat waves are on a steady increase.
Droughts A drought is described as an event that happens due to a rise in temperatures that leads to
an increased rate of evaporation, this even includes the loss of moisture through plant leaves
(Extreme Weather, 2014). This section on droughts states that as the soil dries out due to the
increase in heat, that it results in hotter soil and adjacent air rather than evaporating its moisture
and that this

The Main Reasons For Government And Privatize Their Airports
Week 1: Identify and discuss the main reasons for a government to privatize their airports.
In basic terms Privatisation is essentially the shift of assets from the public or government owned
sector to the private sector, an important point to note is that privatisation doesn t always refer to
ownership, but can also refer only to the management of an organisation.
The advantages of privatisation include greater efficiency and fewer limitations involved in
government spending allowances. Up until the 1990 s privatisation of airports was mainly within
the general aviation, municipal type airfields. Airports were gradually considered as commercial
enterprises , and as such commercialisation began to take place.
Supporters of privatisation argue that it will reduce the need for public investment and give
greater access to commercial markets. By doing this they are limiting government control, which
may be a benefit in itself as there will be more space for diversification. With a wide share of
ownership there can be far greater input from a range of sources. In a sense the government will
still benefit from privatisation, as even though they may have less control overall, they will still
benefit from the global market and from government associated taxes and levies not just on the
airports movements but also taxing of the airport company itself. Conversely on the side of doubt,
there is concern that privatisation may create a monopoly that could potentially be over

Cultural Commodification InThey Are Taking Our Culture Away
Abstract They Are Taking our Culture Away by Elisabeth Kirtsoglou and Dimitrios
Theodossopoulos discusses the Garifuna community and their struggle with cultural
commodification and how their community handles and tries to fix it. Throughout They are Taking
our Culture Away Elisabeth and Dimitrios looked at the many ways the Garifuna are being
commodified. Within this paper what they researched will also be discussed and also what can be
done to help preserve this culture. Commodification as a broad topic will play a large role in this
paper, and whether or not culture is a commodity that should be bought and sold. Commodification
will also be talked about in terms with what role it plays in a culture and the affects that it has on
modern tourism and the tourist s outlook on the world and other cultures.
Commodification
Commodification is defined as a way to make something into an object for commercial use . In
terms of culture and tourism, commodification refers to using a place s culture and the cultural
artifacts to make a large enough profit to support part of the area s economy . Commodification is
found everywhere in modern tourism. Although there may be good things about cultural
commodification, such as profit, there are many more bad aspects to it. For example,
commodification alters a tourists potentiality to have an authentic experience while visiting another
culture. This then introduces the tourist to a false culture and strays them away from the

Cleft Lip Pallet
Scientists have researched into the subject of CLP or cleft lip/ pallet. Their studies have shown
that in the United States of America, roughly 2,650 babies were born with cleft lip and roughly
4,440 babies were born with the cleft pallet with in the last year. 1/700 babies are affected by
this particular genetic disorder. (C. Murray) However, having this disorder does not make you
more likely to have another disorder. With numbers so high, that leaves the question of what is a
cleft lip/ pallet. When a baby is developing, the face forms from either side of the head meeting
together at the center of the face. Cleft lip/ pallet happens when the two ends of facial tissue don t
meet together before the baby is born. This genetic disorder is very common but not fatal. (C.

The opening can either be a very small slit or it can be very large. A cleft pallet is theoretically
the same idea just a little different. The cleft pallet happens when the tissue and muscle forming

of the mouth. (Facts about Cleft Lip...) In an article titled Facts about Cleft Lip/ Pallet it says,
Children with a cleft lip with or without a cleft palate or a cleft palate alone often have problems

Daniel Berrigan was a well known anti war activist as well as a Jesuit priest. He was born in
Virginia, Minnesota, on May 9, 1921. He was the fifth of six boys and grew up on a farm in
Syracuse, New York. Daniel was the weakest of all his brothers of the boys and always dreamed
of being a Catholic priest ( Daniel J Berrigan ). He believed that the church prohibited his father s
poor treatment of his mother and he wanted to be a priest. In Lewis article it says, After high
school he earned a bachelor s degree in 1946 from St. Andrew on Hudson, a Jesuit seminary in
Hyde Park, N.Y., and a master s from Woodstock College in Baltimore in 1952 (Lewis). At the

Control Episode Of House Summary
Ethics, rational, and the right thing to do are words or phrases that appear throughout the Control
episode of House. These words all come back to the same general understand that sometimes what
is the right thing to do is not ethical. There are times where the only solution for good is by doing
unethical things. Throughout this episode there were several examples of ethical philosophies
noted. Rawls s veil of ignorance, Mill s utilitarianism, and Aristotle and Confucius s golden mean
were all present, but it was Machiavelli ethicsthat were most present throughout the episode. The
first of the ethical philosophy that was seen in this episode of housewas seen when we are
introduced to the brand new chairman of the board, Edward Vogler.

In this theory, Rawls tries to put people in to the thought process of another. By trying to
understand someone else s perspective, the ideal is that the vulnerable will become the priority.
As soon as Vogler sees Dr. House, he assumes that he can size him up. Once he has done that and
reviewed the numbers of the cost compared to the results, he assumes that Dr. House and his
team are dead weight. However, this is the principle of the veil of ignorance in practice. Vogler
cannot put himself into the shoes of the patients and family of those who Dr. House heals,
instead he thinks in terms of business. Due to this, Vogler fails to see the ethical side of what
Dr. House does. Again, we see this idea of ethics pop up as Cuddy talks to Dr. House. When she
asked him why it is seen as an admiral thing to do to ignore ethics to save one person, but you are
a bastard when you ignore it to save thousands through test subjects. What these characters are
struggling with is being able to see the view of others. If they had a loved one that needed to be

The Debate Between The And Minority And Majority, And The...
Humans shall never deem they are the saviours of the Earth because everything we are doing
today was to fix everything humans caused before. In the previous two ESS lectures, the topics
were about the sustainable ways of daily life and the new technology GMOs currently for the
poor. And in the three lectures this time, the topics are mainly about the conflict between
minority and majority, and the problems left in the history: if GMOs can help the poor, the
system to protect the ocean condition, and the environmental racism that exists in Canada. To
begin with, in the ESS lecture of Oct.1st, a debate between Dr. Thomas and Dr. Patel presents a
conflict caused by GMOs. On Dr. Thomas s position, we can find the direct advantage of GMOs
food comparing to the traditional agriculture by scientific analysis, such as the ability to resist
disease, and yields of the field. GMOs food had already spread out over the world which was
saying the technique had already mature enough to benefit people efficiently, especially the poor.
Besides, the improvement of GMO technology can also accelerate some of the other industries
like international trade, education in the Third World Country. On the other side, the social
problem that was found by Dr. Patel was different: if it was necessary for the poor to plant
GMOs. On his position, the media was telling people that GMO food was helping the poor,
however, the fact was the farmers only received a little knowledge about the current

Inter Team Conflicts And Interpersonal Conflicts
When a group of people is brought together to form a team it is inevitable that some type of
conflict will arise. Every member of a team has value and each one must understand that a team
without conflict is necessary to accomplish the goal at hand (Mosley, 2005). There are multiple
things that can lead to conflicts and leaders must recognize these to have an effective team. As a
result of this, the leader must take into account everyone s background and experience level as the
team is formed. This paper will discuss the inter team conflicts, interpersonal conflicts, why policies
are created and ways a leader can prevent conflicts from happening.
Inter team Conflict Conflict in teams can have an adverse effect on a team s performance. As a
leader, it is imperative to manage conflict and handle matters before they become unmanageable.
Assessing and managing inter team conflicts before they arise is critical when stopping conflicts
(Hoegl, Weinkauf Gemuenden, 2004). When conflict occurs, the trigger or event could be very
minor and seem insignificant at the time. However, if the conflict is not resolved quickly, it could
build up over time, creating a snowball effect. After this happens, it s a matter of time before the
conflict reaches a tipping point and emotions flare up. Conflict can result from a variety of events
or situations. These could arise as a result of misinformation, a misunderstanding between team
members, or a lack of clear and concise

Hurricane Harvey
This event was a major catastrophe mostly due to its destructive economic damage on the Gulf
Coast that exceeded even Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The death toll of approximately 82 people
attributable to Harvey is a very small portion compared to Katrina s, but the cost in damages is
unrivaled. Current estimates for Harvey are at $180 billion compared to Katrina s $108 billion
(Amadeo, 2017). This makes Harvey the costliest natural event to ever hit the United States and
justifies it as more than just a disaster or a hazard.
The resiliency of the impacted community can be improved by creating more areas for flood
waters to be contained. Urban planners can assess the areas of Houston that were hit by Harvey or
that are most vulnerable to flood damage and designate these areas as parks for diverting flood
waters rather than rebuilding them. City officials can also limit new infrastructure development in

Different meanings come to thought from this quote: The sacred page is not an end in itself, but a
means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him,
that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God
Himself in the core and center of their hearts, but only the means toward the end, which is knowing

We should present this investigation with what we realized first. We were made for God. Every

Classical Liberalism Is A Political Philosophy Originated
Classical Liberalism is a political philosophy originated in the 18th century based on the idea of
individual liberty created to preserve an open and accepting, and open minded society. Classical
liberalism is very solemn when advocating for the value of freedom in which emphasizes the
importance of religion, speech, press, assembly, and markets which includes free trade market
capitalism, and economic liberalism. Up until around the 1900s, this ideology was commonly

John Locke, an English philosopher, shared some of the same ideas that Hobbes possessed.
Locke believed in the power of a government to preserve freedom, but he also believed in
overthrowing any government that violated a citizen s rights, and as a solution, getting a new
government competent for the duty of serving the people. Locke also believed in freedom by
nature. Everyone has a natural right to life, liberty, and property. Locke believed in men preserving
their own civil interest, by those he means life, liberty, health, and the possession of land, money,
houses, and such things. He believed that all men are free by nature, and that no private person has
any right in any manner to prejudice another person in his civil enjoyments. Locke also believes
that God gave men the world to make use of it, therefore he values so much the right to property.
Another philosopher from the 17th century, and who made an impact on how political economy

Compare And Contrast Ammonium Nitrate And Calcium Chloride
How will the temperature of the water change in reaction to the addition of the ammonium nitrate
and the calcium chloride?
Background Information: The experiment deals with cold packs and hot packs and it demonstrates
how they work. Cold packs and hot packs are used to help heal injuries mainly. Cold packs help
heal sprained ankles, since they remove heat from the inflicted area and make the blood vessels
tighten, which lowers the inflammation and pain. Cold packs usually include water, ammonium
nitrate or some other salt and fertilizer. The water is kept separate in an inner container separate
from the ammonium nitrate until the cold pack is needed. When the cold pack is needed, the
cold pack is squeezed, which makes the inner container of water open and the ammonium nitrate
to mix. The ammonium nitrate dissolves in the water and creates the cold pack. The cold pack
is used to decrease the effect of increased blood flow to an area, while a hot pack is used to
increase blood flow to an area, such as an area with deep muscle pain. The hot pack adds heat the
affected area and makes the blood vessels dilate. Hot packs usually contain the same stuff as the
cold pack does, but instead of ammonium nitrate, they contain calcium chloride. Therefore, when a
hot pack is needed the pad is squeezed and the water and the calcium chloride mix, which creates
the hot pack.

How Did Kotoku Change
Kotoku was born in 1871 in rural Tosa and matured in the hectic reform years of the Meiji
period. During his maturity, Japan was undergoing changes that lead to impending dangers. The
years of the Meiji Restoration in 1868 changed from feudal system of the Edo period to a
compulsory system of equal education and enlistment to the army. Japan underwent intense
reforms that changed its social, political, and economic aspects. The reforms shook the
foundations of the dying regime and gave birth to a new society. The social Caste system was
toppled, and the day to day lives of the Japanese changed with a revolution. This achievement
was shortly thereafter betrayed by the ruling party. The ruling elite s imperialistic pursuit was
viewed as a betrayal to the Meiji Restoration. The revolution promised a fair society in
submission of universal ideals. While in Tosa, Kotoku was educated in the new educational
system and its new political ideals, which had opened up due to radical Meiji reforms. He was

Principles of Management
15 September, 2016
History of Management: Paper 1 Many people have their fingerprints on what is known as
management today. Just as everything else it started from ground zero with a lot of trial and error.
Over the years brilliant people such as Adam Smith and countless others have etched into history
that best way to manage, whether on a small or large scale. The wake of these people is still being
seen today in upcoming companies such as Zappos, who brings fresh and new twists to management
as a whole. Management has evolved over the years and will continue to as people and procedures
do as well.
March 9, 1776 marked the date that Adam Smith wrote his widely known book The Wealth of
Nations . The book s original name is An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of
Nations, however it is not recognized by the majority public as so. Smith originally wrote the novel
to dismember the thought that mercantilism was a good idea. Only selling goods and gaining
nothing from trade in return proved in many cases to not be effective.. Smith wrote of the Invisible
Hand which claimed that people, by human nature, look out for their best interest and that in doing
so they unknowingly help the economy. Smith states, He (or she) generally, indeed, neither intends
to promote the public interest nor knows how much he is promoting it (Investopedia.com, An

Racial Profiling Research
Racial profiling has come to represent one of the latest challenges toward law enforcement agencies
in the United States. In America, unfortunately, racial profiling occurs. For instance, NYPD officers
stopped about 87 percent of the public that were either black or Latino (Geller, 2014). In addition,
approximately the same percentage was not guilty of a crime. In the study by the American Journal
of Public Health, young men who encounter numerous policecontact or aggressive stops by the
police reported that they had more trauma and anxiety symptoms than among young men who had
less of these encounters with the police (Geller, 2014). This means that less aggressive invasive
tactics are necessary for suspect in order to reduce the possibility

Advantages Of Rolling Bags For Nursing School
Best rolling bag for nursing students What are the best rolling bags for nursing students? To be
honest, nursing books are heavy and numerous. Although it might not be necessary to carry all
books along to school, there will surely be times when you must tote several of them at once.
Moreover, while on campus, you will probably do a lot of walking and it will not be easy toting
heavy books. Research shows, carrying heavy books in small back packs on a constant basis
can lead to long term back ache. I doubt if anyone will want to begin a nursing career with
prolong back pain issues. This unnecessary pain can simply be avoided by using the proper tote
bag. Although there are a lot of choices in tote bags for nursing student, not all bags are equal.
Thus, when purchasing a rolling bag for nursing school, functionality should be the first thing to
consider. You should ask yourself the following questions; will the bag hold a reasonable number
of books? is there enough space for other stuffs such as laptops, tablets and nursing materials? You
really need to consider these questions because most rolling bags available in the market do not
have enough space to hold laptops and tablets. In addition, you must check if there are side pockets
and areas of storage for extras such as keys, smartphones and water bottles. Another important
quality to watch out for is durability. Some more things to think about. Is the bag made of high
quality material that will serve you throughout

Training Conference For My Assessment
Self Assessment 4
I ve recently been doing training for work and used the training conference for my assessment.
During the training session, it was very apparent when the trainer answered a question in an
irrelevant manner and although she spoke in an upbeat manner, her responses could sometimes
sound impersonal and ambiguous. Since she spoke in the same friendly tone throughout, it was
very hard to read her actual feelings during it. I found that when I needed to ask a question, I
would wait and see if someone else had the same question first and depending on how she was
answering things, I typically did not bother. Once I could tell her true emotions on certain subjects

My Personal Power Profile revealed that I prefer to influence others using legitimate power and

close in rank to my first preference. However, I have no regards for coercive power, scoring the
lowest for me with a 6. The results are very much in line with how I try to live, always building
my own skills and knowledge and exerting power within my position to achieve desired results as
necessary. Within my legitimate power, I often administer rewards and incentives and have noticed
how respect and admiration for a coworker, employee, or supervisor influences my responses and

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Human Needs In Cast Away
In the movie Castaway, Chuck Nolan not only survives the island with nothing for four years,
but he also demonstrates Maslow s Hierarchy of Human Needs while he is there. This movie
explains Physiological, Safety, love belonging, esteem, and self actualization being made all on
one island. Chuck Nolan was the main character and he drifted away 500 miles on an island. The
main thing he was missing on the island was the love of his life, kelly. The first stage he showed
was Physiological. This is because it is all the basic needs you must have such as food, water,
and shelter. Nolan uses this throughout his time on the island. He finds tree branches and makes
fishing rod to catch his food. Chuck also uses the raft he had from the plane to get to this island,
as a bed and his shelter for when the storms would come. When he he was walking around in the
water, he came across a cave, where he then used it as his other home for more warmth and more

When he went exploring on the island, he used the dress from the Fedex plane, to wrap around
his feet as shoes, so he did not hurt his feet. For safety, Chuck also used the life boat when the

safety as well, when the storms came since it was much sturdier than the plastic raft above his
head. The third stage he showed was Love and Belonging. This stage was shown a lot. The
picture he carried everywhere of kelly showed this because he loved her a lot, and she was his
purpose to keep trying, so he could see her again. I also saw this when he made friends with
Wilson, the volleyball. He never wanted to be alone, treated him like he was a human and made
sure he was okay when he left the island. Another love and belonging I noticed was when he saw

The Houghton and Hancock area is heavy influenced by Finlandia and Michigan Tech Universities
with roughly 7,500 students between them. The cities of Houghton and Hancock had a total
population between them of 12,342 using data from the 2010 census. Seven percent of the
population of Houghton are 65 years of age or older whereas 13.8 percent of the State of Michigan

income of $56,146 for Houghton for the period of 2009 2013 with 42.1 percent of persons falling

The 2006 Campus Master Plan states that the dormitory style rooms of Douglas Houghton Hall,
Wadsworth, and McNair are not appropriate to upper class students and that apartment style housing
is needed. As of 2015, Michigan Tech offers a limited number of apartment units between Hillside
Place and the aging and out of style Daniell Heights apartments. There are several hotels in the area
that provide tourists a place to stay during summers and key events throughout the year.
Future Housing Approximately two thirds of Michigan Tech students live off campus, so around
4,600 students. Students demand rental housing so a large demand is created in Houghton,
especially locations closest to Michigan Tech s campus. Michigan Tech estimated the need for an
additional 400 beds mostly in apartment style housing for student use in their 2006 Master Plan.
Housing costs at Michigan Tech run $9393 and up (including food) per academic year so rent
should be marketed lower to make it a viable option considering commuting expenses and
inconveniences to campus. Many houses Tech students live in now are larger low cost homes that
are past/ well past their prime. As these houses need to be removed, an emphasis should be placed
on apartment style units as well as semi, duplexes and up. Low rise or garden apartments would
make the most sense for the area considering the smaller population. A high rise apartment should

Satire
Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody s face but their own

satiric narrative, to recognize social or political plights. In some satires, as in Swift s own A

layer of meaning. In regards to A Modest Proposal, the interchange between the voice of the

Winston believe that whatever the party holds to be truth is the truth (249). Despite Winton s
attempts to resist, he is made hollow through pain, suffering, and, above all, betraying the only

The Strategies The Meiji Government Used to Achieve Economic Development?
The Meiji government during the 1880 s created both an institutional and constitution structure that
allowed Japan in the coming decades to be a stabile and industrializing country. Two major policies
and strategies that reinforced stability and economic modernization in Japan were the creation of a
national public education system and the ratification of the Meiji constitution.
Both these aided in stability and thus economic growth.
The creation of a national education system aided in creating stability because it indoctrinated
youth in the ideas of loyalty, patriotism, and obedience. Japan s education system at first stressed

The Japanese education system following the Rescript on Education served primarily to teach
people what to think and not how to think; and as
Edwin Reischauer stated, quot;Japan pioneered in the modern totalitarian technique of using the

perfecting these techniques. quot; Japan s education system was a tool in creating for Japan a
reliable citizenry who respected the government and had the knowledge to act as quot;technically

The ratification of the Meiji constitution drafted in the summer of
1887 and signed into law in 1889 helped create a stable constitutional order in
Japan. The constitution was a gift of the emperor to the people and was made up of a complicated
set of checks and balances between the emperor, his cabinet, and the Diet. The constitution although
it granted voting rights to only one percent of the population in Japan was well received by the
people and played a critical role in lending legitimacy to the oligarchy (Genro) who ran the
government. Before the constitution the Genro had little basis in theory for their continued rule

Four Subfields Of Anthropology Research Paper
Essay 1 In the first couple of weeks we have talked about multiple topics about humans. Starting
off the beginning of class we got a brief description in what the coarse was going to be. We learned
that anthropology was the study of people and culture. There are four subfields of anthropology
which include cultural, linguistic, archeology, and physical or biological anthropology. There were
many different hypotheses that people believed in how the world was created. People believed in
different ideas like the young earth hypothesis, catastrophism, and uniformitarianism. Charles
Darwinwas the one that created the theory of natural selection. The coarse then went into biology
and talked about the genetics of the people. We learned about genes,... Show more content on

Human genetics are more closely similar than different. Scientists cannot compare DNA of two
people and tell what race they are. Scientists can trace the human genetics back to an African
population that existed over 100,000 years ago. We are able to see some genetic diversity
throughout the African population 100,000 years ago. It has been shown that dark skin and
light skin are affected by how much ultraviolet light the people got. Places closer to the equator
were able to get a lot more ultraviolet rays, so their bodies evolved where their skin had more
melanin to help protect their skin. People further from the equator did not get as much
ultraviolet rays and the skin evolved where they were able to accept more ultraviolet light.

Compare And Contrast My Fair Lady And Pygmalion
Pygmalion, a play written by George Bernard Shaw, first premiered on the 16th of October, 1923,
and was instantly met with love by both its actors and its audiences. Since its release, the story has
been made into several different adaptations, most notable of which being the 1964 musical film by
the title of My Fair Lady. This film, while called a musical, features quite an even mix of regular
dialogue and singing from the characters, making for an overall interesting experience. As
popular and beloved as it may be, no movie is exempt from the flaw of in some way or another
straying from its original ideas. My Fair Lady is no exception. Although there are moments the
characters seem to speak word for word from the early nineteen hundreds play, there are
definitely scenes and actions that must have been added to either move the story along quicker
or even sheerly add more interest to the plot. Although nothing extreme, the differences are
certainly noticeable. While it may not be something that drastically altered how the storyline
unfolded, the musical definitely showed more of Eliza Doolittle s life before Professor Higgins
took her on as his student. Her song Wouldn t It Be Loverly showed her dreaming of a better life
while dancing and having a good time with the people around her. She is depicted as knowing
many of them and they all treat her as a friend. In the original play, Eliza is made out to be more
of a lonely soul, scraping along with her flower business and

Imagery In Swimming
As a collegiate swimmer, doing anything in my power to improve my times in order to help the

add to my routine is using imagery to visualize my events. Visualization is defined as creating/re
creating the experience of activity in the mind(Post, Muncie, Simpson, 2012). Previous research
proposes that creating these experiences facilitates skill acquisition, performance, motivation,

The swimmers were also selected based on practice attendance and lack of injury (Post et al.,

each phase of the study. The study was conducted in a single subject multiple baseline design
because it allowed all participants to be their own control and receive treatment (Post et al.,
2012). Each participant s imagery ability was originally tested using the Movement Imagery
Questionnaire Revised before the imagery training began (Post et al., 2012). During testing
periods, the participants swam 1000 yards of their preferred stroke, 3 did freestyle while the 4th

collected the times for each swimmer. Once the swimmer was able to establish a baseline time,
indicating consistency in time, the imagery intervention was introduced. The investigator
established individualized scripts for each swimmer to perform including practicing basic images
(Post et al., 2012). Each script contained an audio piece that participants were supposed to listen
to twice a week and once before the timed practice (Post et al., 2012). The data points (time it took
to swim 1000 yards) was then plotted and visual inspection techniques, including evaluating levels
of change, overlapping data, and changes in slopes, were used to analyze the data (Post et al.,

Capitalism In The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games by: Suzanne Collins Book Project Do you have something you really want
but don t have the resources to get? People in society today have unlimited wants, but we can t
satisfy everyone, because what popular goods society has are scarce. The Hunger Games by:
Suzanne Collins, written in 2008, follows a girl who volunteered herself as tribute to fight for
survival, plotted as a game, to provide the society with what was needed to survive, and to support
lower class families, while destroying the mindset of the winner . The Hunger Games represent
politics and economics, versus society and the survival in needof scarce resources. Three reasons
that support the claim are capitalism takes over a diminishing government, futurized economic
issue, and the effects of the game on the main player, Katniss Everdeen. Capitalism through the
book was demonstrated by how poorly society s leader was, and how they had to create a game in
order to produce the amount of resources to satisfy lower class peoples needs in order to

Hebert Eagle Seven Pounds Analysis
Drawing upon Hebert Eagle, Seven Pounds clearly exhibits the demonstration of blue lighting
throughout the entire film. For instance, near the end of the film, the viewer experiences the
second of Tim s flashbacks of the devastating crash. Ascending the hill in which his car rolled
over, Tim searches for any survivors of the fatal crash. After a few minutes of searching, Tim
discovers his dead wife lying on the cold, hard asphalt. Aware that he remains the only survivor,
Tim, with heaving sobs, slowly falls to his knees and eventually lies with his wife on the ground.
Throughout this entire scene, blue lighting falls on Tim and exhibits the loneliness and
hopelessness that he now feels. Although such an example presents itself near the end of the film, it
is imperative to understand this motif. Throughout the entire film, the lighting on Tim, when shown
alone, is often blue as if recalling the crash sequence. However, when Tim interacts with Emily later
on in the film, Muccino uses yellow lighting to contrast that of the blue and to produce warmth
within the scene, and to show the comfort and stability that Tim feels in Emily s company. Thus,
the masterful application of blue lighting sets the viewer on edge... Show more content on

The reason being that the Navajos native language was unwritten. The article explains, After basic
training in 1942, Nez s platoon was tasked with developing a code, based on the then unwritten
Navajo language. Using Navajo words for red soil, war chief, clan, braided hair, beads, ant, and
hummingbird, for example, the Original 29 came up with an alphabet and a glossary of more
than 200 terms. This shows that because the language was unwritten, you d have to know the
language to even have a chance of figuring out the codes. The Code Talkers were the walking
carriers of the code and each message that was read by a Code Talker, was destroyed immediately
afterwards. The Navajo code was so indecipherable, that a Navajo soldiers that had been captured

the Code Talkers, I never figured out what you guys who got me into all that trouble were

Kill A Mockingbird Anticipation Guide
To Kill a Mockingbird Anticipation guide 1. Have you ever stood up for something that wasn t
popular with everyone else? Do you find it difficult to stand up for what you believe of no one
else agrees? Yes, we have all stood up for something that wasn t popular with others. For
example, in elementary school I would try to tell my classmates which bin to throw what
garbage in but no one wanted to take the time to throw things on the right bin. I find it is
difficult to stand up for things that others don t believe because if you are not someone looked
up to and your cause is unpopular, no one will follow Predictions: I can assume that in the story
a character will have to choose to stand up for something that isn t popular with others and will
find it difficult to make them agree. 2. Have you ever embarked on a plan or game that was sure
to fail? If so, why did you choose to go ahead with it? Yes, I have embarked upon a plan that was
sure to fail in grade 8. The plan was for the intermediate division in my school to hide behind the
portables after recess as an April fools prank on our teachers. We chose to go ahead with it
anyway to see what the reactions of the teachers were. Predictions: With this question, it can be
assumed that in To Kill a Mockingbird, one will find a character, or multiple characters will
intend to win a no win scenario, back down from it, or find a way to cheat the system. 3. Have
you ever experienced prejudice? If so, under what

Ray Charles Music Influence
Ray Charles music was a combination of all gospel, blues and jazz music which has shaped and
inspired many songs and artists up until today. As Ray became a more experienced artist that
had been known for a while he appealed to a young audience who were more accepting of black
young artists unlike some older people who were against artists of other races. By the time he
had fully identified his music style he found that having feminine backup vocals best suited his
deep, gruff voice. This is shown in many of his later songs like Hit the road Jack . Rays music
was very much influenced by what he was feeling and topics that he felt strongly about. Ray was
lucky, compared to many other black artists because around his time people were very narrow

  • 2. Extreme Weather And Heat Waves The first article or website that I explored was titled Extreme weather. It begins by stating that as the world has warmed, it has triggered several other things in the earth s climate to be altered. It then goes further into depth specifically naming the factors that have been changing due to the altering of the climate. These factors include: heat waves, droughts, heavy downpours, floods, and lastly, hurricanes (Extreme Weather, 2014). Heat Waves In this section, a heat wave is referred to as abnormally hot weather lasting days to weeks . It further goes on to say that the recent number of heat waves have been steadily increasing with numbers almost triple the long term average (Extreme Weather, 2014). In this section it is claimed that the droughts in Texas in the year 2011, and in the Midwest in the year of 2012, that records were set for the highest monthly average temperatures to date (Extreme Weather, 2014). A picture of a map is provided of the coast to coast 100 degree days in 2011, in conclusion, it is observable that heat waves are on a steady increase. Droughts A drought is described as an event that happens due to a rise in temperatures that leads to an increased rate of evaporation, this even includes the loss of moisture through plant leaves (Extreme Weather, 2014). This section on droughts states that as the soil dries out due to the increase in heat, that it results in hotter soil and adjacent air rather than evaporating its moisture and that this ... • 3. The Main Reasons For Government And Privatize Their Airports Week 1: Identify and discuss the main reasons for a government to privatize their airports. In basic terms Privatisation is essentially the shift of assets from the public or government owned sector to the private sector, an important point to note is that privatisation doesn t always refer to ownership, but can also refer only to the management of an organisation. The advantages of privatisation include greater efficiency and fewer limitations involved in government spending allowances. Up until the 1990 s privatisation of airports was mainly within the general aviation, municipal type airfields. Airports were gradually considered as commercial enterprises , and as such commercialisation began to take place. Supporters of privatisation argue that it will reduce the need for public investment and give greater access to commercial markets. By doing this they are limiting government control, which may be a benefit in itself as there will be more space for diversification. With a wide share of ownership there can be far greater input from a range of sources. In a sense the government will still benefit from privatisation, as even though they may have less control overall, they will still benefit from the global market and from government associated taxes and levies not just on the airports movements but also taxing of the airport company itself. Conversely on the side of doubt, there is concern that privatisation may create a monopoly that could potentially be over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cultural Commodification InThey Are Taking Our Culture Away Abstract They Are Taking our Culture Away by Elisabeth Kirtsoglou and Dimitrios Theodossopoulos discusses the Garifuna community and their struggle with cultural commodification and how their community handles and tries to fix it. Throughout They are Taking our Culture Away Elisabeth and Dimitrios looked at the many ways the Garifuna are being commodified. Within this paper what they researched will also be discussed and also what can be done to help preserve this culture. Commodification as a broad topic will play a large role in this paper, and whether or not culture is a commodity that should be bought and sold. Commodification will also be talked about in terms with what role it plays in a culture and the affects that it has on modern tourism and the tourist s outlook on the world and other cultures. Commodification Commodification is defined as a way to make something into an object for commercial use . In terms of culture and tourism, commodification refers to using a place s culture and the cultural artifacts to make a large enough profit to support part of the area s economy . Commodification is found everywhere in modern tourism. Although there may be good things about cultural commodification, such as profit, there are many more bad aspects to it. For example, commodification alters a tourists potentiality to have an authentic experience while visiting another culture. This then introduces the tourist to a false culture and strays them away from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their studies have shown that in the United States of America, roughly 2,650 babies were born with cleft lip and roughly 4,440 babies were born with the cleft pallet with in the last year. 1/700 babies are affected by this particular genetic disorder. (C. Murray) However, having this disorder does not make you more likely to have another disorder. With numbers so high, that leaves the question of what is a cleft lip/ pallet. When a baby is developing, the face forms from either side of the head meeting together at the center of the face. Cleft lip/ pallet happens when the two ends of facial tissue don t meet together before the baby is born. This genetic disorder is very common but not fatal. (C. Murray)... These words all come back to the same general understand that sometimes what is the right thing to do is not ethical. There are times where the only solution for good is by doing unethical things. Throughout this episode there were several examples of ethical philosophies noted. Rawls s veil of ignorance, Mill s utilitarianism, and Aristotle and Confucius s golden mean were all present, but it was Machiavelli ethicsthat were most present throughout the episode. By trying to understand someone else s perspective, the ideal is that the vulnerable will become the priority. As soon as Vogler sees Dr. House, he assumes that he can size him up. Once he has done that and reviewed the numbers of the cost compared to the results, he assumes that Dr. House and his team are dead weight. However, this is the principle of the veil of ignorance in practice. Vogler cannot put himself into the shoes of the patients and family of those who Dr. House heals, instead he thinks in terms of business. Due to this, Vogler fails to see the ethical side of what Dr. House does. Again, we see this idea of ethics pop up as Cuddy talks to Dr. House. Humans shall never deem they are the saviours of the Earth because everything we are doing today was to fix everything humans caused before. In the previous two ESS lectures, the topics were about the sustainable ways of daily life and the new technology GMOs currently for the poor. And in the three lectures this time, the topics are mainly about the conflict between minority and majority, and the problems left in the history: if GMOs can help the poor, the system to protect the ocean condition, and the environmental racism that exists in Canada. To begin with, in the ESS lecture of Oct.1st, a debate between Dr. Thomas and Dr. Patel presents a conflict caused by GMOs. On Dr. Thomas s position, we can find the direct advantage of GMOs food comparing to the traditional agriculture by scientific analysis, such as the ability to resist disease, and yields of the field. GMOs food had already spread out over the world which was saying the technique had already mature enough to benefit people efficiently, especially the poor. Besides, the improvement of GMO technology can also accelerate some of the other industries like international trade, education in the Third World Country. On the other side, the social problem that was found by Dr. Patel was different: if it was necessary for the poor to plant GMOs. Every member of a team has value and each one must understand that a team without conflict is necessary to accomplish the goal at hand (Mosley, 2005). There are multiple things that can lead to conflicts and leaders must recognize these to have an effective team. As a result of this, the leader must take into account everyone s background and experience level as the team is formed. This paper will discuss the inter team conflicts, interpersonal conflicts, why policies are created and ways a leader can prevent conflicts from happening. Inter team Conflict Conflict in teams can have an adverse effect on a team s performance. As a leader, it is imperative to manage conflict and handle matters before they become unmanageable. Assessing and managing inter team conflicts before they arise is critical when stopping conflicts (Hoegl, Weinkauf Gemuenden, 2004). When conflict occurs, the trigger or event could be very minor and seem insignificant at the time. However, if the conflict is not resolved quickly, it could build up over time, creating a snowball effect. After this happens, it s a matter of time before the conflict reaches a tipping point and emotions flare up. Conflict can result from a variety of events or situations. • 18. Compare And Contrast Ammonium Nitrate And Calcium Chloride How will the temperature of the water change in reaction to the addition of the ammonium nitrate and the calcium chloride? Background Information: The experiment deals with cold packs and hot packs and it demonstrates how they work. Cold packs and hot packs are used to help heal injuries mainly. Cold packs help heal sprained ankles, since they remove heat from the inflicted area and make the blood vessels tighten, which lowers the inflammation and pain. Cold packs usually include water, ammonium nitrate or some other salt and fertilizer. The water is kept separate in an inner container separate from the ammonium nitrate until the cold pack is needed. When the cold pack is needed, the cold pack is squeezed, which makes the inner container of water open and the ammonium nitrate to mix. The ammonium nitrate dissolves in the water and creates the cold pack. The cold pack is used to decrease the effect of increased blood flow to an area, while a hot pack is used to increase blood flow to an area, such as an area with deep muscle pain. The hot pack adds heat the affected area and makes the blood vessels dilate. Hot packs usually contain the same stuff as the cold pack does, but instead of ammonium nitrate, they contain calcium chloride. Therefore, when a hot pack is needed the pad is squeezed and the water and the calcium chloride mix, which creates the hot pack. Michigan Tech estimated the need for an additional 400 beds mostly in apartment style housing for student use in their 2006 Master Plan. Housing costs at Michigan Tech run $9393 and up (including food) per academic year so rent should be marketed lower to make it a viable option considering commuting expenses and inconveniences to campus. Many houses Tech students live in now are larger low cost homes that are past/ well past their prime. The Meiji government during the 1880 s created both an institutional and constitution structure that allowed Japan in the coming decades to be a stabile and industrializing country. Two major policies and strategies that reinforced stability and economic modernization in Japan were the creation of a national public education system and the ratification of the Meiji constitution. The ratification of the Meiji constitution drafted in the summer of 1887 and signed into law in 1889 helped create a stable constitutional order in Japan. The constitution was a gift of the emperor to the people and was made up of a complicated set of checks and balances between the emperor, his cabinet, and the Diet. The constitution although it granted voting rights to only one percent of the population in Japan was well received by the people and played a critical role in lending legitimacy to the oligarchy (Genro) who ran the government. Before the constitution the Genro had little basis in theory for their continued rule other then they spoke for the emperor. Starting off the beginning of class we got a brief description in what the coarse was going to be. We learned that anthropology was the study of people and culture. There are four subfields of anthropology which include cultural, linguistic, archeology, and physical or biological anthropology. There were many different hypotheses that people believed in how the world was created. People believed in different ideas like the young earth hypothesis, catastrophism, and uniformitarianism. Charles Darwinwas the one that created the theory of natural selection. The coarse then went into biology and talked about the genetics of the people. We learned about genes,... Scientists can trace the human genetics back to an African population that existed over 100,000 years ago. It has been shown that dark skin and light skin are affected by how much ultraviolet light the people got. Places closer to the equator were able to get a lot more ultraviolet rays, so their bodies evolved where their skin had more melanin to help protect their skin. People further from the equator did not get as much ultraviolet rays and the skin evolved where they were able to accept more ultraviolet light. Somebody s skull size cannot determine if they are inferior to one another. Race has nothing to do with the size of the skull. Samuel Morton decided that he was going to do a study on the skull in 1839 and he concluded that the bigger the skull was the more intelligent they were. Samuel Morton also concluded that white people s skulls were bigger than the black people s skulls, he did not include black s skulls that were either the same or bigger than the white skulls. Compare And Contrast My Fair Lady And Pygmalion Pygmalion, a play written by George Bernard Shaw, first premiered on the 16th of October, 1923, and was instantly met with love by both its actors and its audiences. Since its release, the story has been made into several different adaptations, most notable of which being the 1964 musical film by the title of My Fair Lady. This film, while called a musical, features quite an even mix of regular dialogue and singing from the characters, making for an overall interesting experience. As popular and beloved as it may be, no movie is exempt from the flaw of in some way or another straying from its original ideas. My Fair Lady is no exception. Although there are moments the characters seem to speak word for word from the early nineteen hundreds play, there are definitely scenes and actions that must have been added to either move the story along quicker or even sheerly add more interest to the plot. Although nothing extreme, the differences are certainly noticeable. While it may not be something that drastically altered how the storyline unfolded, the musical definitely showed more of Eliza Doolittle s life before Professor Higgins took her on as his student. Her song Wouldn t It Be Loverly showed her dreaming of a better life while dancing and having a good time with the people around her. She is depicted as knowing many of them and they all treat her as a friend. In the original play, Eliza is made out to be more of a lonely soul, scraping along with her flower business and ... Aware that he remains the only survivor, Tim, with heaving sobs, slowly falls to his knees and eventually lies with his wife on the ground. Throughout this entire scene, blue lighting falls on Tim and exhibits the loneliness and hopelessness that he now feels. Although such an example presents itself near the end of the film, it is imperative to understand this motif.
