Metaphors and Repetition in Do Not Go Gentle Into That...
Metaphors and Repetition in Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
In Dylan Thomas Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, the speaker is a son talking to his
aging father and pleading with him to fight against death. The son knows that death is the
inevitable end to every life, but feels one should not give up to death too easily. By using metaphor,
imagery, and repetition, Thomas reinforces the son s message that aging men see their lives with
sudden clarity and realize how they might have lived happier, more productive lives. These men rail
against fate, fighting for more time to set things right.
The son uses dark and the end of day as metaphors for death. He ... Show more content on

Wise men know that death is appropriate, but they do not embrace it. These wise men fight death
because they feel their words have not been adequate enough to touch or illuminate others. The son
creates a visual image of the inadequacy wise men feel upon realizing their words have not
enlightened others their words had forked no lightning. The son also mentions good men who do
not die peacefully. These men despair that their feeble deedsdid not accomplish enough. Even
though they were good men, they feel they could have done so much more if given the time.
The son next tells his father how wild and grave men also struggled with death. Wild men spent
their lives frivolously, wishing time on its way. They learn when it is too late that they hurried
time too fast and now they cannot recapture what they so wantonly spent. Their lives were
foolishly wasted. The son also mentions grave or serious men who review their lives with a
swift lucidity when death is upon them. These solemn, sober men now realize life could have
been more joyous had they been a little more blind. If life is taken a little less seriously, one could
blaze like meteors and be gay.
Repetition at the end of each stanza is effectively used to reinforce the message to fight back
against death. The son implores his father to hang on any way he can and begs him to use joy or
tears or anger to remain in this life. Other men, be they wise or frivolous, serious or

Example Of Narrative Essay For The Great Gatsby
I grew up in a small town outside of Louisville called Corydon. It was a quaint place where
successful businessmen, doctors, and pilots lived to get away from the big city drama. Like a
group of animals, they lived together in a herd, specifically a neighborhood called Willow
Creek. With my dad being a pilot in the United Parcel Service, I had the pleasure of existing
among the rich, entitled people of Willow Creek. Growing up, my friends took on this Great
Gatsby old money persona from their parents who came from a lineage of money and
connections. What they wore were the most fashionable clothes that money could buy, what they
drove were the newest, stylish cars, and what they thought were egotistical, upscale ideas.
However, if I were to proclaim that I was always morally superior to any of them, I would be
lying: children are cognitively molded by their peers. As my peers and I advanced in our youth, we
would associated together at school, sports, after school, clubs, and extracurriculars. I enjoyed the

who has always had it made for him and will never have to worry about the future so he doesn t
cherish the opportunities and knowledge he has now. They could not be more inaccurate and I take
it upon myself to prove it to them by not just words, but actions. Even still, I cannot enlighten them
to my true nature. My only option left is to find a new community. A community that has been

Edward Gibbon s Declaration Of The Reign
Edward Gibbon s declaration of the reign of the Five Good Emperors being the most happy and
prosperous time in the history of the human race bases its claims on what could be viewed as
superficial aspects of the empire. When studying the Roman Empire, it s difficult to not admire the
stunning works, such as the House of Fawn in Herculaneum or Hadrian s Villa. The wealth needed
to create such places indicates the prosperity within the empire during this time. Gibbons claimed
understanding on happiness and prosperity seem to have less to do with the personal lives of the
human race and more with what physically surrounded the human race during this period of reign.
The claim by Gibbons seems to focus on the benevolent paternalism that... Show more content on

If you were a prisoner of war coming to see the Forum in attempts to assimilate into this most
happy and prosperous society, you were faced with images of your ancestors as captives. The
forum catered to a specific class of Roman citizens and did not act as a place where the average
Roman man or woman felt represented. In addition to the works of Trajan, Hadrian s Wall can also
superficially symbolize the happiness and prosperity of the Roman Empire as asserted by Gibbons.
The emperor Hadrian built Hadrian s Wall after returning from his visit to Britain. The
construction of the wall was an attempt by Hadrian to set up permanent borders for the Roman
Empire and show the strength that the Roman Empire had during the reign of Hadrian by doing
so. The construction of the wall, while showing strength and wealth, also can symbolize the
empires struggle with its borders, and even more so, citizenship. The wall itself symbolized the
Roman Empire s tensions with the peoples surrounding the empire. The wall showed how the
empire needed a structural device to maintain some level of peace within the empire. The idea of
the reign of the Five Good Emperors being a time of prosperity can also be understood when
looking at the changing roles of women within the empire. Women during this time period were
treated differently than the woman before them. While it s difficult to assert definitively whether or
not women were more respected during this

Phonemes In The English Language
Question 1 Language is a very important system of communication that can be either spoken,
written, or consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way. Language has the
profound ability to be communicated either verbally or nonverbally, using the movements of the
lips (reading lips), hands (motions), and even body language as methods of communication.
Language widely varies among communities and one s abilities (hearing, mobility, etc).
Phonemes, or the smallest unit of sounds in a spoken/sign language are imperative due to the fact
they help distinguish one word from another. Each phoneme represents a different sound a person
can make. There are forty four phonemes in the English language, and hundreds of spelling
alternatives that can be used to represent them. Phonemes consist of both vowels and consonants,
and can be anywhere from one letter to three, in no particular order. A phoneme can consist of a
single morpheme. Morphemes are the smallest meaningful unit in the grammar of a language.
These additional letters or words that are added on to existing words help create more meaning
for the word itself. i.e. adding s on the end of a word can suggest either possession or plural.
Adding un , meaning not . There are two types of morphemes, free and bound. A free morpheme is
essentially a word, meaning it can stand along and be meaningful. A bound morpheme usually
conveys grammatical notions, and are affixed to free morphemes to slightly change

European Imperialism Dbq Essay
For the 300 years between 1500 and 1800,European nations traded for slaves, gold, and ivory along
the west coast of africa, but they did not go deeply into the continent. In the 1880s Africa was under
full assault as European nations competed with one another for control of the continent. The driving
force behind European imperialismis power and they gain it by getting control and resources of
Africaand they justify it all by saying it was their duty as more civilised nations to make other
nations as civilized as theirs.
The first thing that European countries needed was control over Africa and many countries tried
to do so and this led to competition between almost all nations. This can be seen in document A
because it shows a map of the many locations other countries have taken as theirs. Control was a
big factor in all of this but it is only one of the many factors that comes in when a country wants
power.
The next thing that the European countries needed was resourses for the mother country can get
more wealthy and better in supply. This can be seen in document D, and E because document D
shows the exports from Africa and how the mother country is using the resources to further the
country s power by advancing in technology, and document E shows the many imports and ... Show

Feasibility analysis
According to Hu Mousavinezhad (2013), developing the mobile application will feasible and
viable since almost everyone uses a phone and this will be very easy and convenient to just install
the mobile application on the phone and thus can scan the barcodes of the products. The
Introducing an electronic gadget that can scan barcodes is feasible to some extent since it will be
a specialized product for that purpose but in terms of the extra cost to the consumers it may be a
project that will fail. Attaching each product with a note containing all the details of the product
may also be a feasible idea but it s only that this may affect the look and cover image of the
product i.e. text books.
The cost of ownership of the mobile application
The cost of ownership of the mobile application to be introduced is determined in terms of the
direct and indirect costs that are associated with it. The direct cost on this is the purchase of the
mobile phone with this application. The indirect cost is the associated cost such as the cost of
recharging the battery since the laser powered

Developing Effective Marketing Strategies for the Japanese Market: A Review of the Literature
Shinichi Hirokawa Argosy University Tsai Ling Wu Argosy University Japan, as the world s third
largest economy, continues to be attractive to international exporters and investors. It is our
argument that the forces of change that led originally to new and bigger opportunities remain the
same, despite surface differences. This paper explores some of the key issues related to entering

Over a decade ago, A 1995 Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) survey of foreign
affiliated firms in Japan (at least one third foreign ownership), found that 65.4 percent reviewed
their business as successful while just 1 percent assessed their business as unsuccessful. More
than 70 percent were planning to expand their business activities over the next five years within
those successful businesses in spite of the economic crisis. The main area of expansion was
sales and marketing activities. Eighty five percent of those companies that intended to expand
their Japanese operations said sales and marketing was the primary area targeted for expansion
(Banerji Sambharya, 1996). This probably reflects an understanding that in the middle of the
economic difficulties, Japan s market revolution is still creating significant opportunities.
Foreign firms are coming into Japan in record numbers. For example, huge Western superstores
are coming into Japan on the tail winds of the deregulation of large retail stores. Toys R Us had
a hard time to enter Japan in 1991, but by late 1997 was posting annual sales of 100 billion yen,
with 10 percent of the market. It became the leading toy retailer in Japan. Resistance from a
group of 500 small stores, which formed the Association of Toy Specialty Stores had not been
able to stop this invasion, and its membership declined to just over fifty stores six years after Toys
R Us arrived (Delios, et al. 2007).

Greek and Roman Architectural Influences in Modern Society...
There are many imitations, and reproductions of Greek and Roman forms in the modern society of
today. Even though the times of the great Ancient Greek and Roman Empires have passed, people
of today are still able to honor their legacy with their long lasting influences on modern society
today, especially in architecture. If one just looks at today s style of buildings, they can see the
similarities between the two different time spans.
Back in the golden days of Greece, one of the top priorities to the Grecian people was how big and
impressive their way of life was, and this included their houses, and public buildings. The primary
type of definitive Greek building was the temple. Many of these temples were built on a large hill

Along came the Mycenaean Period after the Minoan Period, in 1500 BC. This mainland Grecian
society was very different from the Minoans. While the Minoans of Crete were laidback, these
Grecians were much more militaristic and practical, much like how the Roman Empire was, except
there were individual communities often warring with each other. Also, the Mycenaean cities
were dominated by gigantic citadels, or huge fortresses, that were strategically placed on ground
that was higher than the rest of the city, and were protected by massive walls that were made of
limestone, which were entered by a great set of fortified gates. There are some similarities
between the Mycenaean and Minoan people. Much like the Minoan palaces, the grand house for
the important members of the Mycenaean group had many large rooms that were built around a
central courtyard as well. The central courtyard had a distinctive feature called the megaron, which
was an elliptical hall that was used for both domestic and ceremonial purposes. It took up one side
of the courtyard and had a grand front porch and vestibule. Other than the megaron in the courtyard,
the only other difference between the two periods was that in the Mycenaean Period, the rooms of
the palace were much smaller and more compact, again resembling the practicality of Rome s
architecture instead of the grandness and beauty of Grecian architecture. (Reid 26)

If your team loses, then they are done. If they win, then your team gets to keep moving on. When it

they get a prize. Sometimes, it is money (up to five thousand dollars), cases of paintballs, or free

There is a wide range of paintball guns on the market today. There are also various price ranges

Depression In Bartleby, The Scrivener And A Hunger Artist
Depression is a negative feeling of hopelessness and feeling like you don t belong. It can affect
anyone at anytime without warning. Being in such a depressed neurological state makes people
act certain ways and do certain things. According to the medical research group Mayo Clinic:
Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest.
Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and

Essay on What Is Accountability in the Army
What is accountability and the definition: (DOD) The obligation imposed by law or lawful order

A soldier must understand that no one will care about his or hers property as much as their
leaders do. When we do a chain of command change over, we must pull 100% of all equipment

The Flat Tax Essay
The national debt is growing and the government is unable to keep up under the current
Progressive tax system, in the United States. A solution for the United States debt is to switch to a

system is a system that taxes every individual at the same percentage. It is not like any system the

Generally, the cost leadership strategy never applicable in luxury industry. This is because most of
the consumer purchasing luxury goods do not care about price point.
No doubly, LVMHis one of the top world leading luxury products group. Every brand under the
group hold its own brand spirits and produce things different from each others. Those brands must
have few best seller product line with its signature pattern or design implemented on the saleable
goods. For example, Dior has Lady Dior bags and Bvlgari has the Serpenti collection of jewelry.
These differentiations are unique and perceived by customers as difference. Therefore, the product
value is enhanced. Due to the limited and uniqueness thus consumer willing to pay for a premium

normally practices adopted by the luxury brands. They propose to achieve premium prices with
high targeted segmentation, promotion and distribution etc. Obviously, LV is one of the brand

Compare And Contrast Still Life With Game Fowl
Beginning in 17th century Italy, the Baroque era is notorious for its exaggeration of movement, and
detail meant to convey excitement and tension. Influenced by the Counter Reformation, art began
to impart religious themes with detail, particularly towards emotion and drama meant to convince
people that Catholicism remained legitimate. One such artist in this movement was Juan SГЎnchez
CotГЎn, a Spanish Carthusian Monk. Although the bulk of his work comprises religious scenes,
he is famous for his work in still life. Another artist specializing in this genre, Clara Peeters,
pioneered the way for other Flemish still life artists. While neither conveyed drama, both exhibited
competence in creating beautiful and realistic still life paintings. Still Life with Game Fowl
contains painterly detail in the animals, fruit, and vegetables. From the left, one notices quince and
cabbage suspended next to game birds like mallard and quail. Employing dark colors, the
background deliberately seems obscured drawing attention to the foreground. While there appears

Peeter s painting is bursting with vibrant color, whereas CotГЎn employs a neutral array of shades,
perhaps indicating the distinction between dull, common man s food and wealthy delicacies. Both

falls shows different two different times of day. Moreover, the placement of the subjects in Still
Life with Flowers, Goblet, Dried Fruit, and Pretzels appear satisfyingly symmetrical as opposed to
the haphazard placement of subjects in CotГЎn s. In terms of detail, Peeter shows hyper realistic
competency in a variety of surfaces like glass, metal, flower petals, and pretzels, while CotГЎn

Pilgrim s Host
No one likes to be the butt of a joke, Pilgrim Chaucer included. In the Prologue to Sir Thopas, the
Host, Harry Bailey, a crude, hulking man, taunts Pilgrim Chaucer by making fun of his quiet
manners and delicate appearance. Lacking a physical advantage over the Host, Pilgrim Chaucer
wisely chooses to get back at him by using his wits. Rather than getting upset over Harry s slurs,
the Pilgrim takes his revenge in a more subtle way by telling a tale guaranteed to irritate his Host:
a lilting, ridiculous piece of fluff about a hopelessly effeminate knight called Sir Thopas. Through
the use of camp language and phallic symbols, Geoffrey Chaucer, in his poem the Tale of Sir

The Driver s Seat Compare And Contrast
O, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive! These lines from Sir Walter
Scott s Marmion poem cultivate the theme in James M. Cain s novel The Postman Always Rings
Twice and The Driver s Seat by Muriel Spark. The protagonists in each respective novel make
different choices to solidify their motivations, but both lead to the same consequence: their death.
Lies and deception lead to a disastrous and unconventional outcome. Cain and Spark wrote similar
novels with the theme of deception leading to fate, but unlike each other, they utilize their literary
elements character motivation, plot outcome, and type of storytelling differently.

In Postman, the plot follows a chronological structure. The reader can thoroughly see the cause
and effect unraveling throughout the novel with Frank s first person point of view. Frank s
deceptive disposition leads the police to think that he murdered Cora, which gets him convicted
and put on death row: So I m in the death house, now, writing the last of [this story] so Father
McConnell can look it over... (Cain 115). While he is on death row, he writes an autobiography
about his affair with Cora and everything coinciding, and attempts to redeem his sins, even
seeking help from a priest to do so. Comparatively, The Driver s Seat follows interwoven
storytelling. From the first paragraph of chapter three, the reader knows that Lise is going to die:
She will found tomorrow morning dead from multiple stab wounds... (Spark 21). But although, we
understand this information, the reader is not omniscient. The novel proceeds with third person
narration, but even then, its point of view is limited. The audience does not have an inkling of
what Lise is thinking about. It is not until the end where we learn that Lise s suspicious behavior
is not all for show. Her trickery of others has led her to her own planned death. Cain and Spark use

Poverty In The United States Essay
As poverty spreads, there are carving broader arcs of desperation throughout the country. A rising
number of Americans are struggling to make it from one paycheck or unemployment check to the
next (Abramsky, 2012). In the United States, families and individuals are classified as being in
poverty if their annual money income before taxes and other deductions falls below the official
povertythresholds (Betson, 1977). According to the United StatesCensus Bureau, poverty is based
on the number of people in a family, and who share an income less than three times the cost of
food for that household. The recent United State recession has pushed the number of poor young
children to their highest levels of poverty since 1994. Poverty is more pervasive... Show more

The average rate of child poverty is lowest among Whites, but Asian children are less likely to be
poor than Blacks and Hispanics (Bratter and Kimbro, 2013). Although poverty is borne more
heavily by minorities, the notion that poverty is only a minority problem is a meth. (Abramsky,
2012). Poverty is not shared equally across different demographic groups. African Americans
children, Latino children, and children in mother only families are disproportionately poor
(Corcoran and Chaudry, 1977). About 47 million Americans of all color ethnicities and
backgrounds are living at or below the poverty line (Abramsky, 2012). While the poor are barely
protected by a frayed social safety net and often disengaged from the decision making processes
that structure their lives, confronting the root causes of poverty is discouraging and increasingly
urgent (Abramsky, 2012). Dramatic changes in the family, society, and the economy have altered
the lives of children. Children are now more likely to live with a single parent with low levels of
schooling and work experience making it more difficult for parents to support a family above the

Ethanol And Alternative Sources Of Energy
Abstract Due to energy and environmental concerns, producing fuels from renewable energy
sources has seen advancements, especially through collecting biofuels produced from microbes.
Many of the biofuels produced from microbes are done so by different pathways in order to
generate fatty acid branched chain esters (FABCEs) and branched fatty acid branched chain esters
(BFABCEs), which are promising isopentenols. These can be produced via multiple pathways, the
leucine and valine pathway as well as the fatty acid pathway. Another and main source pathway
producing biofuels, which produces isopentyl diphosphate (IPP) and dimethylallyl dipho sphate
(DMAPP), are the 2 methyl (D) erythritol 4 phosphate (MEP) and mevalonate dependent (MVA)...

This is proof that it is crucial to begin to create biofuels that have a lesser negative impact that
can sustain the energy demands that we have today. Currently, as seen in the table, microbes
have been proven to produce ethanol, biodiesel and hydrogen, which are all sources that can be
used for producing renewable fuels. One of the various types of ethanol produced are C5
alcohols also referred to as isopentenols and other 5 branched carbon alcohols. As Connor and
Liao suggest Higher chain alcohols (C3 C5) contain a high energy density, and are compatible
with the current infrastructure as they are less hygroscopic. These alcohols (iso propanol, 1
propanol, 1 butanol, isobutanol, 3 methyl 1 butanol, 2 methyl 1 butanol, isopentenol) can be
blended with gasoline and also have potential to be used as replacements, as 1 butanol has already
been shown to perform well in conventional gasoline engines (Connor; Liao, 2009). There is some
controversy about how current biofuels are not efficient at low temperature; however, FABCEs and
BFABCEs have low freezing points, which can allow for the biofuel to have greater performance
(Tao et. al, 2015). As previously mentioned, isopentenols have properties, which mirror those of

Therefore, a limitation may be that the results are a little skewed as some of the antigens may

The Effects Of Reading Fluency On Reading Comprehension Essay
Introduction
Numerous experts have specified that a deficiency of reading fluency seems to be the area of
extreme impairment in reading. According to Huemer and Mann (2009), children with ASD have
been reported to show a disassociation between decoding and comprehension . Children with ASD
usually have a higher leverl of reading compared to their reading comprehension. Overall, the
evidence suggests that children with ASD have low levels of reading accuracy, which implicates
weak decoding skills as being one of the factors in reading comprehension deficits in ASD (Huemer
and Mann).
National Reading Panel define fluency as reading text with speed, accuracy, and proper expression.
(2000, p. 3 1). Reading Fluency has three interdependent distinct elements which are accuracy, rate,
and prosody. Several decades of scientific research by National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development [NICHD], clearly shows effective reading instruction addresses five critical areas:
Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension. Research points out that
Reading Fluency helps build a bridge between basic word decoding and comprehension.
The baseline project will focus on Fluency. Fluency is identified by the words in a text rapidly
and accurately and using phrasing and emphasis in a way that makes what is read sound like
spoken language (NICHD report of 2000). The reasoning for fluency being important is research

Schema integration is the process of merging autonomously developed DB schema into a unified,
global schema to provide transparency through a unified view [73].
Schema integration is the process of identifying the components of a database which are related to
one another, selecting the best representation for the global conceptual schema, and finally,
integrating the components of each intermediate schema [74].

Pre integration
An analysis of local schemata is carried out. The analysis made governs the choice of schemas to
be integrated and the order of integration. A number of schemas to be integrated at a time and the
amount of designer interaction are also decided in this step [81].
12.4.2.Schema Comparison/Matching
This step involves identifying and analyzing inter schema relationships by determining the
correspondences between the schemas. Possible conflicts are also detected in this phase.
12.4.3.Schema Conforming
In order to integrate schemas, the detected conflicts between them have to be resolved so that it
was possible to merge them [81]. It implies modification of one or both schemas that will be
integrated until each phenomenon in the Universe of the Discourse (UoD) reflects the same form
in both schemas.
12.4.4.Schema Merging
Schema merging results into a single global integrated schema by superimposing the local schemas.
12.5.Conflicts in Schema Integration
Schema integration process may face certain conflicts. The system undergoing the integration
process must be able to identify the arise conflicts. Some of the schema integrations conflicts are
explained below:

Forshadowing In Jack London s To Build A Fire
Some stories can have an emotional impact on readers, but every so often a story will reach out
and help the reader escape into it. Jack London s To Build a Fire is a fascinating story with a
remarkably well described setting, and geographical descriptions of the surrounding Yukon areas. It
portrays an overconfident man, whom because of his lack of intuition and stubbornness, succumbs
to natures unforgiving climate.
Claim 1: In 1897 London and his brother in law, Captain James Shepard joined the Klondike Gold
Rush. He used this experience to describe the settings of some of his first successful writings.
His time spent in the Klondike was very harmful to his health. Like many other men working in
the harsh conditions, London was malnourished in the goldfields, and he developed scurvy. He
lost four of his front teeth and he was plagued by constant pain in his hips and legs. His face was
scared by the rigid work he endured, and these hard ships inspired London to write his short story,
To Build a Fire . London s exceptional use of foreshadowing in the title and within the first
couple of lines of his story tells the reader that the character of the story will come into hardship,
his use of foreshadowing is expressed within the first sentence of his story, There was no sun or
promise of sun, although there was not a cloud in the sky. It was a clear day. However, there
seemed to be an indescribable darkness over the face of things. (London) of not traveling alone.

that if Eveline did become serious with Frank he, as her father, would become a lower priority in

would be yet another change the old man would have to endure.
Other factors lead to Eveline being fearful of change. Not only change in commitments but change
in physical surroundings are things she does not embrace, though she has been surrounded by
change most of her life; when she was a child, she would play in the field with the neighbor
children every evening, until it was built upon. She has also experienced change in the form of death
; childhood friends, her brother and her mother all are dead. Death is not a positive representation

from her entire life would not be there to comfort her; they would be gone. Change may not be

All of these realizations about change are due to Eveline considering the biggest change in her life:

Beatty Samuelson Essay
7. Bluffing can be ethical, depending on the circumstances and how it is employed. In fact, Beatty
Samuelson, in Essentials of Business Law, points out the Kantian evasion or plater , which serves
as the basis for deceiving someone in an ethical way. She describes it as a truthful statement that is
nonetheless misleading (36). For instance, Kant s example of a murderer coming to our door asking
for someone who is in our own home and who he wants to kill illustrates an instance when
answering questions fully could lead to terrible consequences (36). In that case, Samuelson argues,
telling the truth and pointing the killer to the victim would be very costly, so it is better to employ
Kant s evasion principle and reply with a truthful, but misleading statement. Immanuel Kant,

Although gender discrimination currently receives intermediate Fourteenth Amendment Scrutiny,
they should receive strict scrutiny. As Samuelson points out, like in the case of race, A
government action interfering with a fundamental right receives strict scrutiny and will likely be

considered an interference with a fundamental right and, therefore, receive strict scrutiny. The
repercussions of the severe problem of gender discrimination in American society can be seen in
the gender pay gap in our country. In fact, according to the Institute for Women s Policy

a gender wage gap of 21 percent. Women, on average, earn less than men in virtually every single

Symbolism In The Prestige
Fall Final In the movie The Prestige many symbols are used in the movie revealing information
about the characters and the theme of the scene or the movie as a whole. Nolan s film The Prestige
uses the red ball throughout the film to represents the fatherly love from Borden to his daughter:
Jess, revealing the love, longing, determination, hope and promise he has for his daughter. The tiny
little redballs are used as a symbolfor Borden s relationship with his daughter. The red balls show
up in contrasting moments in the film. For example, Borden gives his daughter Jess the little red
balls when they first saw their new house. In this moment the balls represent hope, promise, and
love. The hope that they will have a good long life as a family. The promise that he will do
everything that he can do to give her a good life. The balls also represent how much love he has
for his only daughter. In another instance in the movie, he gives his daughter the red ball when he
is in jail. In this moment in time he gives the ball to her to represent the longing, determination, and
promise to get her back. In the jail scene he is longing to have his daughter back and it hurts him
knowing that he cannot at that second. The determination he has not to die because he promised his

Macbeth and Gladiator
Shakespeare powerfully focuses on the negative consequences of ambition in the text Macbeth
and in the film Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott and how it can lead to one s downfall. Macbeth
is shown as the noble hero by the King after slaying the Thane of Cawdor and claiming victory in
the war for Scotland, while Ridley Scott s Gladiator portrays Maximus as the noble hero but still
not comparing to Macbethlike Commodus does in the film. Shakespeare effectively focuses on
the cynical repercussions of ambition in Macbeth and how it can lead to one s failure. Macbeth is
shown as a wellborn protagonist after being regarded as Noble Macbeth by the King of Scotland,
King Duncan after slaying the Thane of Cawdor and winning... Show more content on

Macbeth is slain as a tyrant and Lady Macbeth takes her own life. Shakespeare does not give either
character the opportunity to enjoy what they had achieved, suggesting that it is more satisfying to
achieve your goals fairly than to achieve them through corruption. Ridley Scott powerfully focuses
on the negative consequences of ambition in Gladiator and how it can lead to one s downfall.
Using a similar storyline to Shakespeare s Macbeth he uses similar character structures but also
giving them many differences. Commodus ambition begins after he kills his father Emperor
Marcus Aurelius because he feels that his father did not love him enough and becomes the
Emperor of Rome. Marcus says that Commodus is not a moral man and that he cannot rule .
Commodus is the Macbeth character in Gladiator but is still not the main character. The main
character in the film is Maximus who resembles Macduff in the film. While still being shown as
a great fighter, Commodus is also shown in the film as a bit of a coward, after Maximus wins
the war for Rome, Commodus shows up late to the victory celebrations acting as if he wasn t
even aware of a war even existing. Quickly after being crowned as Emperor of Rome, Commodus
becomes disliked by the Senate and the people of Rome and seen as a pathetic leader. Commodus
uses the ambition to be like his father to create barbaric fights in the Coliseum. He ll bring them
death and they will love him

Essay about The Third Man, Historical Analysis
The Third Man, Historical Analysis A Review of the Film
APA
The Third Man, was filmed in post World War II Vienna, releasing in 1949. The film was written
by Graham Greene, directed by Carol Reed, and produced by the American David Selznick and
the British Michael Korda. The black and white, pessimistic film is one of the greatest British
thrillers of the post war era, in the best Alfred Hitchcock tradition, and beautifully produced....It was
voted the #1 British Film of the 20th Century (Tim Dirkes, Filmsite Review) Holly Martins, the
unemployed American writer of western novels, comes to Viennaout of disparity. Holly gets
invited to Vienna to work by his childhood friend, Harry Lime: It is their friendship that... Show

The light and darkness exemplify the contrast of the deception and friendship Holly Martins feels
for lime. The producers utilized the setting exceptionally to convey the feeling of a dark time, and
Viennese hopelessness in the Post War era.
Characterization: How does the characterization of Holly Martins show the real life historical
attitude of the average person in the post war era?
In the beginning of the film, Holly Martins, the naГЇve American, has a strong and driven character
of honesty, and power. He is motivated to find The Third Man, who killed his childhood friend.
His attitude is much like the American civilian s attitude in post WWII Americans had great
prosperity...rebellion and alternative lifestyles (Duke Edu.), unlike the pessimistic Viennese
attitudes. Martin s thinks the British authorities have not taken the Lime murder seriously,
especially Major Calloway. The authorities are careless and oblivious to the importance of a third
man. Due to Holly Martins drive for justice, Major Calloway reveals Harry Lime failed as a
friend and failed morally. To Martins, this reveals what a dishonest friend he was to him. His
character is so honest, and moral, he rebels, and becomes out of character. In a conversation to
Anna, he says: HOLLY: Seventy pounds a tube. He wanted me to write for his great medical
charity . . . . Perhaps I could

pravpodd@campus.viu.edu Abstract
According to the book Top down network design by Priscilla, and research by Pandya supports
that a network is a group of devices connected together. There are many types of computer
networks like, local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), campus area network (CAN),
home area network (HAN), metropolitan area network (MAN). Topology is the geometric
arrangement of the computer system. The common topologies are bus, star, ring, mesh etc.
Network topology refers to the physical or logical layout of a network. It defines the way different
nodes are placed and interconnected with each other. Network topology describes how the data is
transferred between these nodes. There are two types of network topologies: physical and logical.
Physical topology emphasizes the physical layout of the connected devices and nodes, while the
logical topology focuses on the pattern of data transfer between network nodes. This paper
investigates how different types of topologies work, its advantages and disadvantages.
Keywords: Hierarchical network topology, bus, ring, mesh, tree and star topologies.

Essay The Hamlet Ghost
The Hamlet Ghost Does the ghost in Shakespeare s Hamlet conform to the standards for ghosts in
the days of the dramatist? This essay will answer this and other questions about the ghost in the
drama. Cumberland Clark says in The Supernatural in Hamlet that: The Hamlet Ghost fulfils all
the demands of popular superstitition. In the first place it comes in strange and creepy
circumstances, at dead of night, when it is cold and still and lonely. Tis now the very witching
time of night, When churchyards yawn, and hell itself breathes out Contagion to this world
(III.2.405 407) It appears clad in the garments worn in mortal life. . . . Its appearance arouses the

This is what we see Hamlet do when, in spite of his immediate conviction that it is an honest
ghost he has seen, he arranges a trial of its veracity in the form of the play within the play (117).
Thus is explained the rationale of the play within a play which is seen as necessary for the
climax of the drama. To begin consideration of the Ghost, let it be said that the Ghost makes his
appearance even before the play has opened. Marchette Chute in The Story Told in Hamlet
describes the ghost s activity prior to the opening scene of Shakespeare s tragedy: The story
opens in the cold and dark of a winter night in Denmark, while the guard is being changed on the
battlements of the royal castle of Elsinore. For two nights in succession, just as the bell strikes
the hour of one, a ghost has appeared on the battlements, a figure dressed in complete armor and
with a face like that of the dead king of Denmark, Hamlet s father. A young man named Horatio,
who is a school friend of Hamlet, has been told of the apparition and cannot believe it, and one of
the officers has brought him there in the night so that he can see it for himself. The hour comes,
and the ghost walks. The awed Horatio tries to speak to it but it stalks away, leaving the three men
to wonder why the buried

  • 2. Metaphors and Repetition in Do Not Go Gentle Into That... Metaphors and Repetition in Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night In Dylan Thomas Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, the speaker is a son talking to his aging father and pleading with him to fight against death. The son knows that death is the inevitable end to every life, but feels one should not give up to death too easily. By using metaphor, imagery, and repetition, Thomas reinforces the son s message that aging men see their lives with sudden clarity and realize how they might have lived happier, more productive lives. These men rail against fate, fighting for more time to set things right. The son uses dark and the end of day as metaphors for death. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wise men know that death is appropriate, but they do not embrace it. These wise men fight death because they feel their words have not been adequate enough to touch or illuminate others. The son creates a visual image of the inadequacy wise men feel upon realizing their words have not enlightened others their words had forked no lightning. The son also mentions good men who do not die peacefully. These men despair that their feeble deedsdid not accomplish enough. Even though they were good men, they feel they could have done so much more if given the time. The son next tells his father how wild and grave men also struggled with death. Wild men spent their lives frivolously, wishing time on its way. They learn when it is too late that they hurried time too fast and now they cannot recapture what they so wantonly spent. Their lives were foolishly wasted. The son also mentions grave or serious men who review their lives with a swift lucidity when death is upon them. These solemn, sober men now realize life could have been more joyous had they been a little more blind. If life is taken a little less seriously, one could blaze like meteors and be gay. Repetition at the end of each stanza is effectively used to reinforce the message to fight back against death. The son implores his father to hang on any way he can and begs him to use joy or tears or anger to remain in this life. Other men, be they wise or frivolous, serious or ... • 3. Example Of Narrative Essay For The Great Gatsby I grew up in a small town outside of Louisville called Corydon. It was a quaint place where successful businessmen, doctors, and pilots lived to get away from the big city drama. Like a group of animals, they lived together in a herd, specifically a neighborhood called Willow Creek. With my dad being a pilot in the United Parcel Service, I had the pleasure of existing among the rich, entitled people of Willow Creek. Growing up, my friends took on this Great Gatsby old money persona from their parents who came from a lineage of money and connections. What they wore were the most fashionable clothes that money could buy, what they drove were the newest, stylish cars, and what they thought were egotistical, upscale ideas. However, if I were to proclaim that I was always morally superior to any of them, I would be lying: children are cognitively molded by their peers. As my peers and I advanced in our youth, we would associated together at school, sports, after school, clubs, and extracurriculars. I enjoyed the company; however,... They could not be more inaccurate and I take it upon myself to prove it to them by not just words, but actions. Even still, I cannot enlighten them to my true nature. • 4. Edward Gibbon s Declaration Of The Reign Edward Gibbon s declaration of the reign of the Five Good Emperors being the most happy and prosperous time in the history of the human race bases its claims on what could be viewed as superficial aspects of the empire. When studying the Roman Empire, it s difficult to not admire the stunning works, such as the House of Fawn in Herculaneum or Hadrian s Villa. The wealth needed to create such places indicates the prosperity within the empire during this time. Gibbons claimed understanding on happiness and prosperity seem to have less to do with the personal lives of the human race and more with what physically surrounded the human race during this period of reign. The claim by Gibbons seems to focus on the benevolent paternalism that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you were a prisoner of war coming to see the Forum in attempts to assimilate into this most happy and prosperous society, you were faced with images of your ancestors as captives. The forum catered to a specific class of Roman citizens and did not act as a place where the average Roman man or woman felt represented. In addition to the works of Trajan, Hadrian s Wall can also superficially symbolize the happiness and prosperity of the Roman Empire as asserted by Gibbons. The emperor Hadrian built Hadrian s Wall after returning from his visit to Britain. The construction of the wall was an attempt by Hadrian to set up permanent borders for the Roman Empire and show the strength that the Roman Empire had during the reign of Hadrian by doing so. The construction of the wall, while showing strength and wealth, also can symbolize the empires struggle with its borders, and even more so, citizenship. The wall itself symbolized the Roman Empire s tensions with the peoples surrounding the empire. The wall showed how the empire needed a structural device to maintain some level of peace within the empire. The idea of the reign of the Five Good Emperors being a time of prosperity can also be understood when looking at the changing roles of women within the empire. Women during this time period were treated differently than the woman before them. While it s difficult to assert definitively whether or not women were more respected during this ... • 5. Phonemes In The English Language Question 1 Language is a very important system of communication that can be either spoken, written, or consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way. Language has the profound ability to be communicated either verbally or nonverbally, using the movements of the lips (reading lips), hands (motions), and even body language as methods of communication. Language widely varies among communities and one s abilities (hearing, mobility, etc). Phonemes, or the smallest unit of sounds in a spoken/sign language are imperative due to the fact they help distinguish one word from another. Each phoneme represents a different sound a person can make. There are forty four phonemes in the English language, and hundreds of spelling alternatives that can be used to represent them. Phonemes consist of both vowels and consonants, and can be anywhere from one letter to three, in no particular order. A phoneme can consist of a single morpheme. Morphemes are the smallest meaningful unit in the grammar of a language. These additional letters or words that are added on to existing words help create more meaning for the word itself. i.e. adding s on the end of a word can suggest either possession or plural. Over a decade ago, A 1995 Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) survey of foreign affiliated firms in Japan (at least one third foreign ownership), found that 65.4 percent reviewed their business as successful while just 1 percent assessed their business as unsuccessful. More than 70 percent were planning to expand their business activities over the next five years within those successful businesses in spite of the economic crisis. The main area of expansion was sales and marketing activities. Eighty five percent of those companies that intended to expand their Japanese operations said sales and marketing was the primary area targeted for expansion (Banerji Sambharya, 1996). This probably reflects an understanding that in the middle of the economic difficulties, Japan s market revolution is still creating significant opportunities. Foreign firms are coming into Japan in record numbers. For example, huge Western superstores are coming into Japan on the tail winds of the deregulation of large retail stores. Toys R Us had a hard time to enter Japan in 1991, but by late 1997 was posting annual sales of 100 billion yen, with 10 percent of the market. It became the leading toy retailer in Japan. Resistance from a group of 500 small stores, which formed the Association of Toy Specialty Stores had not been able to stop this invasion, and its membership declined to just over fifty stores six years after Toys R Us arrived (Delios, et al. 2007). ... Even though the times of the great Ancient Greek and Roman Empires have passed, people of today are still able to honor their legacy with their long lasting influences on modern society today, especially in architecture. If one just looks at today s style of buildings, they can see the similarities between the two different time spans. ( Classical Greek Architecture 616) (Reid 26) Along came the Mycenaean Period after the Minoan Period, in 1500 BC. This mainland Grecian society was very different from the Minoans. While the Minoans of Crete were laidback, these Grecians were much more militaristic and practical, much like how the Roman Empire was, except there were individual communities often warring with each other. Also, the Mycenaean cities were dominated by gigantic citadels, or huge fortresses, that were strategically placed on ground that was higher than the rest of the city, and were protected by massive walls that were made of limestone, which were entered by a great set of fortified gates. There are some similarities between the Mycenaean and Minoan people. Much like the Minoan palaces, the grand house for the important members of the Mycenaean group had many large rooms that were built around a central courtyard as well. The central courtyard had a distinctive feature called the megaron, which was an elliptical hall that was used for both domestic and ceremonial purposes. It took up one side of the courtyard and had a grand front porch and vestibule. Other than the megaron in the courtyard, the only other difference between the two periods was that in the Mycenaean Period, the rooms of the palace were much smaller and more compact, again resembling the practicality of Rome s architecture instead of the grandness and beauty of Grecian architecture. Compare And Contrast Still Life With Game Fowl Beginning in 17th century Italy, the Baroque era is notorious for its exaggeration of movement, and detail meant to convey excitement and tension. Influenced by the Counter Reformation, art began to impart religious themes with detail, particularly towards emotion and drama meant to convince people that Catholicism remained legitimate. One such artist in this movement was Juan SГЎnchez CotГЎn, a Spanish Carthusian Monk. Although the bulk of his work comprises religious scenes, he is famous for his work in still life. Another artist specializing in this genre, Clara Peeters, pioneered the way for other Flemish still life artists. While neither conveyed drama, both exhibited competence in creating beautiful and realistic still life paintings. • 29. Ethanol And Alternative Sources Of Energy Abstract Due to energy and environmental concerns, producing fuels from renewable energy sources has seen advancements, especially through collecting biofuels produced from microbes. Many of the biofuels produced from microbes are done so by different pathways in order to generate fatty acid branched chain esters (FABCEs) and branched fatty acid branched chain esters (BFABCEs), which are promising isopentenols. These can be produced via multiple pathways, the leucine and valine pathway as well as the fatty acid pathway. Another and main source pathway producing biofuels, which produces isopentyl diphosphate (IPP) and dimethylallyl dipho sphate (DMAPP), are the 2 methyl (D) erythritol 4 phosphate (MEP) and mevalonate dependent (MVA)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is proof that it is crucial to begin to create biofuels that have a lesser negative impact that can sustain the energy demands that we have today. Currently, as seen in the table, microbes have been proven to produce ethanol, biodiesel and hydrogen, which are all sources that can be used for producing renewable fuels. One of the various types of ethanol produced are C5 alcohols also referred to as isopentenols and other 5 branched carbon alcohols. As Connor and Liao suggest Higher chain alcohols (C3 C5) contain a high energy density, and are compatible with the current infrastructure as they are less hygroscopic. These alcohols (iso propanol, 1 propanol, 1 butanol, isobutanol, 3 methyl 1 butanol, 2 methyl 1 butanol, isopentenol) can be blended with gasoline and also have potential to be used as replacements, as 1 butanol has already been shown to perform well in conventional gasoline engines (Connor; Liao, 2009). There is some controversy about how current biofuels are not efficient at low temperature; however, FABCEs and BFABCEs have low freezing points, which can allow for the biofuel to have greater performance (Tao et. al, 2015). The Effects Of Reading Fluency On Reading Comprehension Essay Introduction Numerous experts have specified that a deficiency of reading fluency seems to be the area of extreme impairment in reading. According to Huemer and Mann (2009), children with ASD have been reported to show a disassociation between decoding and comprehension . Children with ASD usually have a higher leverl of reading compared to their reading comprehension. Overall, the evidence suggests that children with ASD have low levels of reading accuracy, which implicates weak decoding skills as being one of the factors in reading comprehension deficits in ASD (Huemer and Mann). National Reading Panel define fluency as reading text with speed, accuracy, and proper expression. (2000, p. 3 1). Reading Fluency has three interdependent distinct elements which are accuracy, rate, and prosody. Several decades of scientific research by National Institute of Child Health and Human Development [NICHD], clearly shows effective reading instruction addresses five critical areas: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension. Research points out that Reading Fluency helps build a bridge between basic word decoding and comprehension. The baseline project will focus on Fluency.
