Johnny Tremain Dynamic Character
In Johnny Tremain, Esther Forbes shows how human nature is dynamic and unpredictable by
having Johnny change throughout the book. He was a fictional dynamic character who lived in
Boston during the 1700s. Johnny s personality changed drastically throughout the story. His
feelings for others also changed in the story. In addition, Johnny s views about the American
Revolution changed in the story. Johnny Tremain s personality, feelings for others, and thoughts
about the American Revolution changed throughout the book. Johnny s personality changed
throughout the book. At the beginning of the book, Johnny was immature. He was too full of
himself and did not think before he spoke. By the end of the book, he was more mature. He
became more humble and less easily angered. In chapter one, Johnny was overly proud and
arrogant. Then, in chapter two, his hand got burnt and he lost his pride.... Show more content on

He became a Whig who disliked the British and wanted independence. Johnny s involvement
helped Revolutionary War efforts. He notified members of the Observer s Club about meetings
and participated in the Boston Tea Party. At the beginning, Johnny did not feel strongly about
the fight for independence. He lived with the Laphams, who were loyalists. As a silversmith s
apprentice, Johnny was not affected by the British. When he lived with Rab and delivered
newspapers, he became a patriot. Rab s uncle Lorne was a patriot who published the Boston
Observer, a Whig newspaper. Johnny assisted with the Observer s Club, a top secret club of
rebels in Boston. He also participated in the Boston Tea Party. At the end of the book, Johnny
planned to fight in the American Revolution. Doctor Warren was to fix his hand, which would

Nursing Interventions for Pneumonia
Nursing Interventions Nurses play a vital role in observing and interpreting the current symptoms
of patients. It is vital that nurses are able to understand the overall symptoms associated with
certain diseases and drugs and can confidently present this information to the physician for review
and proper patient treatment. Here, the patient s symptoms are suggesting a distinct and dangerous
disease as well as possible side effects from Fentanyl. The patient s overall symptoms and lab work
suggest that she is suffering from hospital acquired pneumonia. Currently the patient is presenting a
moist chesty cough. Additionally, her heart rate is elevated, her oxygenation is low, and her RR is
high. She has a raised white blood cell count, which indicates infection. Finally, the patient is acting
confused and disoriented, which can be the direct result of a lack of oxygenation to the brain. All
of these symptoms point to pneumonia (Torres, 1999). The interventions for pneumonia are as
follows. First, the patient must have oxygen administered to increase the blood s oxygenation level
and ensure proper oxygenation to the body s organ systems. As the patient is treated with oxygen,
she should be encouraged to breath deeply, as oxygen is the best cure of pneumonia. Next, vitals
should be consistently monitored and oxygen treatment repeated whenever the oxygenation level
drops below 90 percent. Finally, the on call physician should be notified of the patient s condition
so that

T. V. Lbo Case Summary
In 1980, at Piscataway Township High School, 14 year old T.L.O. and a peer were caught smoking
cigarettes in a school restroom which violated school rules. The two violators were taken to the
Assistant Vice Principal s office where one student confessed to smoking while the other, T.L.O.,
denied the allegation. The Assistant Vice Principal demanded T.L.O to hand over her purse where
he found cigarette papers, cigarettes, a pipe, marijuana, a list of students who owed T.L.O., and a
large amount of money. The school authorities contacted T.L.O. s mother who then brought T.L.O.
to turn herself in; she eventually confessed to having sold marijuana on school grounds. Juvenile
delinquency charges were brought upon T.L.O. in the Juvenile and Domestic... Show more content

When the case went to the U.S. Supreme Court they ruled in a 6 3 margin in favor of the State of
New Jersey. They agreed that the student s 4th Amendment had not been violated and the search of
personal possessions can apply to school officials, as long as the search is reasonable.
Significance of Case to Education
The landmark case New Jersey v. T.L.O. made administrators more aware of student issues and
how they can impact the entire school and community. For example, without New Jersey v. T.L.O.
the use of metal detectors in schools would not be possible; their use ensures the safety of students
and staff while on school grounds. More advanced scanning systems in airports and highway patrol
checkpoints in the 1990s have based their practice off of the decision made in this case.
This case has also set the groundwork for forthcoming cases such as Bethel School District v.
Fraser where the courts decision was based on this landmark case. It was stated that basically
students are not granted the same coextensive rights as adults in other settings outside of school .
Institutions of education still apply the decisions made in New Jersey v. T.L.O. to today s school
settings to maintain order and accountability of student well

Comparing A Cyborg Manifesto And Letter In Birmingham Jail
In A Cyborg Manifesto , Donna Haraway, the author relates feminism to cyborgs in that male
/female and biology/technology are dualities. However, is the Civil Rights Movement not an
undertaking between dualities as well (African Americans/Caucasian)? By applying Haraway s idea
that male/female can be united just like bio/tech are in cyborgs to MLK s Letter in Birmingham Jail
that states that the Civil Rights Movement is an undertaking by the African Americans to gain
rights equal to those of Caucasians, we can see that perhaps African Americans can be united with
Caucasians just like male/female and bio/tech. Martin Luther King Jr s Letter in Birmingham Jail
rebuts some of the arguments that white clergymen make about his recent actions

Giving the readers the ability to read latest stories and headlines would ensure that they get value
for their money. There is also the ability to search other related stories from the publications.
Having the articles published, searchable by the readers may be by topic, or by the date would be
a plus for the publishing businesses. Something that allows the readers to give their opinions, share
their side of the story and rate the articles would help the publisher know their customers feelings
and reactions to different topics. This is important as it will guide the publishers in establishing the
topics and articles that appeals most with their targeted buyers. The ipad from pressmart has a poll
feature that would help in getting the readers topics of interest.
There is also the feature of Video and Image gallery that allows readers to access images and
videos in a published article. The image can be saved or even sent via email. This enables the
readers to share with their friends and relatives. This creates more awareness about the published
magazine or newspaper. The Social networking ability where a reader can create a digital
community and interact promotes and enlarges the publishers market. The published article could
be viewed in a single page view or in a portrait form. The readers can get on demand delivery of
content on their ipad. This means that they are able to get any article published

Juliet Capulet Quotes
Juliet Capulet Juliet Capulet lived a very short life. Although her life was short, she lived a
passionate adventuresome romance with a forbidden love, Romeo Montague. William Shakespeare
created a masterpiece when he created Juliet in the tragic play Romeo and Juliet. Her exquisite
beauty and personal charm is among the finest in literature. Romeo s description of her captures
this perfectly when he says Juliet is the sun and the brightness of her cheek would shame the stars.
Juliet is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Capulet. The Capulet and Montague families lived in Verona
during the 1400 s. In Verona there were two major households. These households were the Capulets
and the Montagues. The feud between these two households is evident... Show more content on

Falling in love with him changed her. She is loving, witty, loyal, strong, and willing to take risks
so that she and Romeo can be together. When Romeo and Juliet kiss at the feast, Juliet teases
Romeo for using the popular imagery of love poetry to express his feelings and for kissing
according to convention rather than from the heart: You kiss by th book. This shows that even
though they have a high risk relationship it is also very playful. Juliet isn t naive enough to think
that their relationship is all fun and games. It is too rash, too unadvis d, too sudden This quote
shows that she is aware of how risky their relationship is. Her decision to continue the
relationship with him at such a young age was very unwise for her. She can t do certain things
because she is a girl in an aristocratic family, she has none of the freedom Romeo has to roam
around the city, climb over walls in the middle of the night, or get into swordfights. Nevertheless,
she shows amazing courage, although it might not be the wisest decision, in trusting her entire life
and future to Romeo, even refusing to believe the worst reports about him after he gets involved in
a fight with her cousin that results in her cousin s death. Juliet s closest friend and confidant is her
Nurse, though she s willing to shut the Nurse out of her life the moment the Nurse turns against
Romeo. Juliet is willing to do anything to be with

Calorimetry Of Brass Lab Report
Background Brass is considered an alloy, or a mix of multiple metals. Brass is usually made of
copper and zinc, but there could be some other metals creating 300+ known brass alloys. The
amount of copper in brass will affect basic characteristics of brass like color, strength, conductivity,
etc. To find the amount of copperin brass one can use visible spectroscopy. Spectroscopy is the
study of electromagnetic radiation. It originated as a study of visible light, and wavelength through
a prism. Spectroscopy can show how much copper is in a brass solution by showing how much
visible light is passing through a copper solution
Procedure

The Effects Of Video Games On The Video Game Industry
An Atmosphere Unknown This is the future of the video game industry. Imagine looking
through the eyes of your favorite video game character but in reality, you are actual sitting on
the couch. Look to the left and you see R2 D2 trying to communicate to you. To the right, you
have rebel fighters shooting at storm troopers that are attacking your home planet. Virtual reality
lets you do all of this from the comfort of your home. However, Augmented reality lets you do
this as well, but it is less virtual and more technological. Imaging walking down the street and
you see a Pikachu on the side of the road through technology based glasses. You are in the real
world, but it is modified by the use of a computer. How has Virtual and Augmented reality?
evolved the video games industry ? The history of video games goes all the way back to the
1930 s when the first coin operated entertainment was invented. The first pinball machines were
invented during this time and are still around with us today in arcades and bars around the
world. Video games around that time were actually called Electromechanical games.
Electromechanical gaming graphics were only as good as artists could draw them. However,
Electromechanical games were very limited. There was hard labor in assembling the games
because of their use of motors, coins, and mechanical brackets. Also, the cost of these components
were on the rise. Luckily, in the early 1960 s, Steve Russell programmed a PDP 1 to play a game

Such a feeling is not unnatural; many people think about future incapacitations, but this scene
establishes the tone for the novel and unveils Ezeulu s internal conflict. The allusion here is that
this impending blindness is a threat, for it will interfere with his ordering of religious festivals,
and will even mean that his tribal influence will cease to be felt among his people if he fails to
observe the progression of the moon. If his religious responsibility will be challenged, his
political responsibility will be in danger. He endeavors to console himself by imagining that he is
as fit as any young man, or better because young men were no longer what they used to be (1).
This gesture is indicative of his desire to maintain a perpetual authority over his tribe; he realizes
that old age is beginning to tell him, but this he repudiates. In spite of all the tremendous power in
his hands, he knows he depends on the supernatural forces whose ways nobody can understand; this
perception renders him somewhat helpless. Even the choice of his successor is in the power of Ulu;
therefore, his dependence on the deity is a threat to his authority. Ezeulu s authority can be asserted
only when co operation with the supernatural powers is established. Any thought which seeks to
undermine his authority has grave psychological implications. Throughout the novel, we see him
writing in anguish over his authority, haunted by fear that his

Peter cook, executive director of NAWC (National Association of Water Companies) says, Water
should be priced at the cost to provide it and subsidized for those who can t afford it . In light of
this statement I wonder if water should be allowed to be used as a money maker in the first
place. TIME states that brands such as Dasani and Aquafina made $1.9 million last year for the
two companies. I find it shocking that there are luxury brands of water such as, Vanleer and
Tennessee sold at an estimated $240.00 a case. Jyoti Thottam, a TIME writer and editor claims,
Water can cost as much as wine Seventy years ago the thought of buying water was absurd. Now,
according to the NAWC, in the US 33.5 million Americans get their drinking waterfrom privately

It is scary to face the fact that water, a basic human need, is being taken away with little fight.
Yet, has there ever been a right to water? Places like Canada and Tibet are two of the most water
rich places on earth. Leaving places like China, whose rising economic success has lead to

The Mongols And The Mongols
According to the background essay on the Mongols, The Mongols were a small tribe during the
13th century. They were from the grasslands of Central Asia and conquered much of the known
world. The essay also said that They operate from the backs of horses and sometimes use siege
weapons. It was also explained how the Mongols were one of the several nomadic peoples who
competed with one another for pasture land and livestock. They also had no metal working, no
written language, and no permanent homes. The Mongols also were first led by Genghis Khanand
did not have a good reputation. The Mongols may have been successful, but it was due to mostly
negative examples and information. The Mongols were although positive in a way. For example
their Yam System, to make them go faster and farther. However, this example and many other
positive examples are ways for the Mongols to fight better and kill more people. The Mongols
were barbaric because they were brutal and ruthless.
The Mongols were first off very brutal people whose only focuses were to kill people to get what
they wanted, land. One reason why the Mongols were so brutal was because of their brutal
leaders who told them what to do and go for. According to the background essay on the Mongols

The blue, as Marc prescribed, gives a peaceful note to the agitated atmosphere. He recollects an
illusionistic portrayal within which he seeks to form a rich colour composition that reflects the
vitality of his subject. The principal achievement in Red Horses is this portrayal of the uninhibited
energy of nature using completely naturalistic colours. 2. Figure : Tierschicksale by Franz Marc
This Tierschicksale is one of the most popular landscapes drawn by Franz Marc. It characteristic
of the sense of apocalypse that began to taint Marc s work and is relate to his feelings on the
forthcoming war.
This painting used of numerous elements and principles of design. Using line showing the contrast
between the animal and the floras. Also, the value (tone) and colour used containing dark and light
in colours, the tone of the colour on the right of the painting is darker, and lighter colour on the
left. Moreover, this landscape created an emphasis (focal point). An animal is clearly shown in the
central of the landscape and creates a focal dominance.
Marc clarifies that he began to see the ugliness in animals which he had previously thought only
existed in humans. The use of lines and geometric shapes in this landscape carried the emotional
charge previously conveyed by animals. This landscape related to Marc s ideas on the impending

Soviet Submarines in Red Star Rogue by Kenneth Sewell
The novel Red Star Rogue is a novel about a particular submarine that served in the Soviet Pacific
Fleet during the Cold War. The book follows the Golf Class submarine K 129 on her final mission
which occurred in the spring of 1968. K 129 was a Soviet ballistic missile submarine whose
purpose was to launch nuclear weapons at the United States in case of the commencement of
hostilities between the two superpowers. The author Kenneth Sewell, who is a former submarine
officer (Hutchinson) does an outstanding job of not only describing the overall picture, but also
breaking down not only the submarine, but also the men who served on her final mission. He

Another strange occurrence is that 15 extra sailors boarded shortly before departure. This was
rare in that the crew of 83 men was already at full muster. The submarine set sail, and things
appeared to be going smoothly. The submarine is heading to its assigned patrol area in the
central Pacific. Suddenly, on March 1st, after a week at sea, the first indication that something
is amiss aboard the submarine comes... (77) K 129 failed to send its regularly scheduled
message to fleet headquarters. Four days later, on March 5th, another signal that something is
wrong on board. The submarine instead of slowing down to begin the usual silent patrolling in
the mission, K 129 keeps sailing towards Pearl Harbor. (78) After two weeks at sea, the
submarine surfaces and then proceeds to attempt a nuclear missile launch at Pearl Harbor. The
author points out that what exactly happened will never be known unless Russian files are
declassified and the CIA release what documents they recovered from the submarine. Although
Mr. Sewell cannot provide a first hand account, he can relate with a fair degree of certainty what
happened based on his experience as a submariner and his experience in dealing with the Soviet
navy. Also with the use of recently declassified documents, Mr. Sewell can provide more accurate

Comparing Graff And Birkenstein s They Say I Say
This weeks reading included They Say I Say by Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein and From
Critical Thinking to Argument by Sylvan Barnet, Hugo Bedau, and John O Hara. In They Say I
Say, Graff and Birkenstein talk about the importance of being able to look at writings and be able
to not only find the thesis/ argument that the author is making but also be able to figure out The
view or views that motivate the thesis the they say (Graff and Birkenstein 155). In From Critical
Thinking to Argument Barnet, Bedau, and O Hara talk about how to think critically. This includes
being able to see both sides of an argument. A good way to do this is by clustering, which is where
one thinks about possible counterarguments/ responses to their claim. We also read about how when
reading a paper, we should preview the paper by looking at the author, publisher, title, context, and
the thesis. We should also annotate, highlight, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Wooden Roller Coaster History
Amusement parks need to keep the historical classic wooden roller coasters and not destroy them.
These historical wooden roller coasters are a part of American heritage. Many parks in the United
States have attracted millions of wooden roller coaster enthusiasts every year. During the 1800 s,
most of the early coasters were built by Thompson, Alcoke and Hinkle were built at Coney Islandin

Allusions In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
In the middle ages, society assumed that friars were always impeccable. Most friars expressed that
they served Christ with their preaching, blessing, and begging for gifts. Chaucer mocks the
assumption about religious figures by labeling religious figures in The Canterbury Tales as
hypocrites. In The Summoner s Tale of The Canterbury Tales
, Chaucer uses allusion, imagery, and
the archetypal theme of good vs. evil in order to depict the friar as a hypocritical religious dignitary.
Chaucer uses allusions to numerous Biblical figures, such as Satan and Christ Jesus. The friar,
while presenting his lecture, references countless individuals and stories from the Bible. He
does so in order to tell Thomas, the ill man, that his anger and spite have been the reasons he is
so frail. You lie here full of anger, full of ire, / With which the devil you re your heart afire, / And
chide this humble innocent your wife, / Who s been so meek and patient in her strife (1981 1985).
In the quote, the friar describes Thomas soul as being possessed by the devil, being the ... Show

Chaucer uses a quote on line 2122 that says: He would like to see the friar on fire. That quote is
significant because Thomas irritation by the friar has been increasing. Another important
significance of the quote shows how the friar has the potential to be more devil like, full of ire.
The friar s potential becomes a reality when Thomas farted in the friar s hand. As ridiculous as it
sounds, the friar felt like the fart was the devil possessing him. He went forth on his way
consumed with ire (2158). Ire epitomized evil and the devil. The friar had become evil,
representing malevolence. The anger in him raging like a fire (2166). The anger continues,
showing how the friar s anger continued building up within. Chaucer was able to use archetypal
theme to ridicule the friar, and other religious figures of the time

Portrayation Of Women In Nervous Conditions By Tsitsi...
During the 1960 s disproportionate gender roles characterized post colonial Rhodesia. The
African patriarchy described in Tsitsi Dangarembga s acclaimed novel, Nervous Conditions,
promotes feminist theory through the portrayal of marginalized women in Zimbabwe.
Regardless of class or social prowess, women were not permitted the same liberties and regarded
with the same respect as their male counterparts. Women found themselves relegated to the
positions of household servants, and excluded from the labor markets by the societies males.
(Mbatha 23) Female characters of the novel consistently struggle with nervous conditions
around males, stemming from years of oppression under the Shona power system. Throughout
her novel, Nervous Conditions, Dangarembga exemplifies the various forms of oppression faced
by Shona women as well as methods they utilized to resist the oppressive male patriarchy. Prior
to her brother s death, Tambu s educational aspirations were secondary to her role in the
household. Nhamo s birthright as the family s first born male exemplifies the injustice faced by
Tambu from a young age. This disparity is further exemplified as Tambu states the needs and
sensibilities of the women in my family were not considered a priority or even legitimate.
(Dangaremba 12). Her aspirations to be properly educated are viewed as an unnecessary expense
in regard to women s roles in Shona culture. Jerimiah s ridicule of this proposition represents the

most talked about sport of all time are soccer and football. They are the number one sport in the
world. They are both loved by people around the world and everybody enjoy every minute of
watching the player play the sports. The problem is that the playeralways seem to get injured from
this sport but the cause of their injured are different from each other. Between soccer and football,
the most common injuries are knee and ankle injured. Soccer playersoften get injured more often
than football players, whenever they are on the field. In between this two sport, it seems like
someone always get injured whenever the event is held.
First, the cause of the injured between soccer and football different from each other. Both the
soccer and football player would twist their ankle and hurt their knee during the game. For
soccer players, the cause of their injured are running and kicking the ball all over the field and
sometimes twist their ankle while running. Sometimes for soccer players while they have the
ball the other team would sly kick the ball and miss; but when that person missed, the sly kick
would hit the other player knee or ankle and it would result in the other person getting injured.
However for football players, the only way to get injured is they would have to be tackle down by
other players; if they want to get injured. Their chance of getting injured are very low

Tourism And Tourism
. Introduction
Our research question is What happens to tourism in cities after being impacted by a terrorist
attack? Most tourists will seek safe and secure destinations when travelling which is why we
hypothesize that they will avoid destinations impacted by terrorist attacks in the short term.
Terrorism can be defined as an act of targeted violence that appears to intimidate or coerce a sector
of the population and/or a government s policies to achieve political or social objectives inside
or outside a territorial jurisdiction. The goal of terrorism is to psychologically disrupt possible
targets and aim to increase public s fear of terrorism to an illogical and overwhelming state of
anxiety. In other words, the goal is for people to believe that anyone and everyone could be a
victim at any moment. In a rational world there would be no impact on tourism after terrorist attacks
(at least after the immediate danger is handled), however, we expect tourists to avoid such locations
beyond this irrationally. Possible behavioural explanations for this avoidance include mortality
salience, dread risk and overconfidence, base rate neglect and terror, and news coverage and the
availability heuristic.
In our research, we will be looking at popular tourist locations because that is where travel is
discretionary. These locations include Paris, London, New York, Las Vegas, Manchester, Berlin,
Nice, and Orlando, all considered top tourist destinations by the World Tourism Organization
. This
will allow us to control for travel that is mandatory, such as work based travel. We will use two
statistical methods to test our hypothesis: a two sample t test and a regression analysis. The t test
will help us compare if the average difference between arrivals 3 months after a terrorist attack and
arrivals 3 months into a destination unaffected by terrorism are significant or due to chance. A
regression analysis is then used to determine the relationship between death totals in each terrorist
attack and tourist arrivals.
Existing Research
According to Sönmez (1998), when faced with the threat of terrorism tourists tend to engage in a
number of behaviors including substituting risky destinations with safer alternatives and

Control The Wildfires Of Alberta Canada
Humans maintain the park and influence mandatory controlled fires as well as control the
wildfires. Wildfires are required to burn in order to keep the ecosystem in check. In Banff
National Park, these fires burn in old growth areas. Once the fire is burned out it leaves nutrients
in the soil to aid in regrowth for future plants. After the fire Grizzly Bears rummage through the
now loose and nutrient rich soil for certain roots that are apart of their diets. These roots are only
accessible to the Grizzly Bear after a fire has cleared out the forest. Once regeneration starts, the
nutrients in the soil allow other food sources to begin growth and bears start to forage for them.
The cycle continues once the forest has regrown. Banff National Park in Alberta Canada has a
very interesting climate. The study site only a few miles away from the city of Banff resides on
the front ranges of the Rocky Mountains. The Continental Divide is only 45 km (28 miles) west of
the study location. The climate around the park as a whole is interesting. It is commonly known to
be completely different weather at varying temperatures all over the park. Throughout the day, the
weather frequently changes dramatically. Areas studied included dry meadows, shrub fields and
shrub lands, open or immature forest and mature forests. All of which have a nutrient rich post
wildfire soil. The forests are primarily spruce, lodgepole pine, subalpine fir and alpine larch. The

Argumentative Essay On Birth Control
Birth control. Most of the women in America have tried some type of birth control during their
lifetime. Currently, we are having debates to see if birth control should be free or at a lower cost
to citizens. Why do we need birth control if we already have condoms? Do we really have
affordable birth control? Can we get it easily? Does it do more than just prevent pregnancies? If

these questions. Birth control is a benefit to modern society and we have benefited from it greatly.
To get the ball rolling, we all know that taking birth control comes with a price, just like any
other daily necessity. Some women have a challenging time acquiring these preventable
contraceptives due do cost and accessibility. A variety of contraceptives are currently available to
women in the US. Including hormone pills, IUD s, patches, emergency contraception, and
implants. The most common types being the pill and IUD s. Some women prefer taking a pill
every day, while others prefer having an IUD put in that can last up to twelve years. How much
does all this cost? According to Kimberley Palmer, a writer for the US News, pill users can cost
between $15 to $50 a month, depending on what time of health care coverage you have. On a
Trombley 2 yearly basis this can cost up to $160 to $600. (Palmer) On the other hand, an IUD is a

demonstrate the isolation felt by the prisoner. Our Nig: or, Sketches from the Life of a Free Black

the discourse of national rights and of God s challenges to the nation. (Heath Anthology, 340).
Rowlandson s narrative fueled the idea of the savage nature of the Native Americans, while
Wilson s novel exposed the savage treatment of free blacks in the North prior to the civil war.

Raskolnikov s Ethics Of Care
Ethics of care is a theory that tries to explain actions as right or wrong. Held defines ethics of
care as a well defined theoretical approach that stands for an alternative to moral theories such as
deontological and utilitarian ethics. She argues that ethics of care focuses more on personal
relationships and communal ties. While bringing in the concepts of cluster of practices and
values into care, she gives a description of a caring person as one who possesses appropriate
motivation to care for others and who partakes adeptly in effective practices of caring (Held,
2006). She goes on to support the notion of limiting both market provisions for care and the need
for legalistic thinking in ethics, insisting that care ethics possesses superior... Show more content on

His name is derived from the Russian word raskolnik, signifying dissident or isolated, which is
proper since his most principal character attribute is his distance from human culture. His pride
and intellectualism lead him to abhor whatever is left of mankind as fit only to sustain the
species. Interestingly, he trusts that he is a piece of a first class extraordinary man hierarchy
and can therefore go against morals for a greater good. On the other hand, that blame that
torments him after he kills Alyona Ivanovna and Lizaveta and his repeating faintness at the
notice of the homicides serve as verification to him that he is not made of the same stuff as a
genuine superman , for example, Napoleon. In spite of the fact that he thinks about the choice to
admit for the vast majority of the novel and however he appears to be bit by bit to acknowledge
the truth of his average quality, he stays persuaded that the homicide of the pawnbroker was
supported. His definitive acknowledgment that he adores Sonya is the main power sufficiently
solid to rise above his imbued hatred of humankind. Raskolnikov s associations with alternate
characters in the novel do much to light up his identity and comprehension of himself. Despite
the fact that he thinks about Razumikhin, Pulcheria Alexandrovna, and Dunya, Raskolnikov is so
made up for lost time in his distrustful viewpoint that he is regularly unappreciative of their
endeavors to help him. He swings to Sonya as a kindred transgressor of social standards,
however he neglects to perceive that her wrongdoing is vastly different from his: while she
genuinely gives up herself for the purpose of others, he basically carries out his wrongdoing for
his purpose alone. At last, his association with Svidrigailov is baffling. In spite of the fact that he
detests the man for his debasement, he likewise appears to need something from him maybe

Popular Mechanics Raymond Carver Analysis
What is the title of the text and what is the text about? The title is Popular Mechanics by

subsequently, they get into an argument over the custody of their single child (Carver, 1981)..
What is the author s view? How do I know? The author seems as if he is distancing himself from
the story. The main reason I believe this is his lack of detail and overuse of simple sentences. It s
like he is telling a painful story he doesn t want to tell. This analysis is further supported by
Carver s own history of physical abuse from his father (Hall, 2009, para. 6). Therefore, the author
s point of view aligns with morbid realism. What is the evidence presented by the author to support
ideas? It is clear early on that the couple s relationship has failed when... Show more content on

How do I know? The evidence is relevant to the story, especially since there is hardly much
detail in the story anyway. The beginning paragraph about the weather sets expectations of the
story, and the forgotten well being of the baby is relevant to the nature of their demise. The story
is extremely selective of the detail that is given, and all the detail adds to the tone of the story.
Have I heard/read anything similar or dissimilar? What was it? I am reminded only of The
Monkey s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs (1911) because the characters blind desires in that story reminds
me of the power struggle in Carver s story. Also, the outcome in both stories is not what the
characters had intended, and in both stories, neither characters were happy with the outcome. Do

Sexual Exploitation Of Sex Advertising
Sexual exploitation is becoming more and more mainstream in advertisements. Everyone knows
that sex sells. Especially Carl s Jr. They have developed a reputation with their salacious ad
campaigns, often depicting women in very revealing attires. In their recent advertisement for the
2015 Super Bowl, it features model Charlotte Mckinney where she is baring almost everything.
There is more to the commercial than just boobs and burgers. The use of Mckinney s body as a
sexual object is discriminating to all women and raises sexism. The stereotypical ad brings
imparities between genders and promotes genderpolicing. The attention grabbing, super sexy Au
Naturel ad first starts off with the model Mckinney, walking through a farmer s market
practically naked while strategically placed items are covering her private areas. She clearly has
all the attention of the men at the market. She walks by this one man with a spray hose and he
completely turns around to catch a look of Mckinney, who appears fully naked, being covered
this time by the spraying water from the hose. She catches another man s attention and is a shot
of her bare back with a tomato shaped exactly like her behind, perfectly covering just that. The
man then pinches and grabs the side of the tomato. The shot after shows her walking towards a

Students With The Tools And Strategies
Introduction The goal for every teacher is to equip their students with the tools and strategies they
need to be successful. Educator s today are faced with many obstacles in order to meet the academic
and emotional needs of all students in their classroom. Traditional classrooms move students to
another classroom at the end of the year, while looping provides educators the opportunity to
remain with their students to the next consecutive grade level. The shift toward single grade classes
with a single teacher educational model was established and remains prominent today (Roe, 2009).
Looping is a practice where the teacher remains with the same students for more than two or more
years. Looping provides the potential for both academic and social benefits for students. (Eric
Digest) The additional time allows educators to provide students a sense of stability, an expanded
curriculum that builds upon previous learning experiences and prior background knowledge, and
the time to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships and a sense of community (Kerry
Roe, 2009). The idea behind looping is to avoid student anonymity by creating a longer term
relationship between the students and their teacher in a learning community. Academic benefits
were reports with improved academic achievement scores, and more enthusiastic attitudes toward
learning in general. The looping environment offers teachers the opportunity to have a deeper
understanding of their students, which will

Antonio Stradivari s Influence On Future Generations Of...
Antonio Stradivari is quite often referred to as the greatest violin and stringed instrument maker to
ever live. Much of this credit is given to Stradivari because people simply know his name.
Countless violinists have expressed over the years the great frequency that people always ask them
if they own a Stradivari instrument or not. The reality is, although Antonio Stradivari was certainly
a master at his work, he was not the only one to create stringed instruments and certainly was not
the first to do so. People remember Stradivari because of the quality of the instruments that he
made. Much of our basis for stringed instruments to date has been, however, influenced by Antonio
Stradivari. The basis for Stradivari s influence on future generations of musicians and instrument
makers was shaped by events that happened before Stradivari was born, the perfectionist way he
established his workshop, his death, and the physics and name of his instruments.
Many factors helped to create modern string instruments as Stradivari knew them. First, the viol
created a strong basis for the modern violin. The viol was a Renaissance instrument that was bowed
just like the modern violin, but was fretted and softer than the violin. The viol was a favorable
instrument to learn because they were suitable for both courtly and religious music as they had a
good, unique sound and were very portable. These qualities were all passed onto the violin and to
other stringed instruments.

A Brief Note On Armenia And The Soviet Nation
Like everyone else in my family, I was born in Yerevan, Armenia. My parents decided to move
our family to the United States in 2000 to live with my grandfather on my mom s side. We left
our entire family in Armenia to be able to have a better life in the United States. Armenia was a
soviet nation and when the USSR collapsed, so did most of Armenias economy. People struggled to
make money and life there quickly became very hard. My parents always tell me stories of when
my brother and I were babies and what our familyhad to do to be able to provide food and clothes
for us. There were certain times a day where families got electricity and water. People that didn t
live in the city lives in ore rural areas that were referred to villages since they were
underdeveloped. People in the city lived in apartments. It was very common for people to live
with entire families in a small home or apartment. My parents lived in my dad s family home in
the city with his entire family of twelve people. My parents struggled a lot to be able to keep my
brother and I comfortable through the freezing winters and scorching summers. Life in Armenia
became too hard for them. That s when they decided it was time to make a huge change and
leave everyone we knew behind to move to a foreign nation with a dream of having a better life.
We moved to Los Angeles in 2000 to live with my grandfather. I don t remember much from that
time since I was so young, but I do remember how different everything was.

Effects Of Second Hand Vehicles In The Zimbabwean Economy
INTRODUCTION
The Zimbabwean economy is nose diving and experiencing huge cash shortages of the currency
in circulation ,this is being seen as the banks are now rationing the payments, giving each
individual about $100 per day and sometimes less or no cash , also money is now not easily
accessible from mobile bankers like eco cash, telecash and one wallet, this is being caused by the
imports which are outweighing the exports and among these imports there is the importation of
second hand cars which is seen to have dominated the imports of Zimbabwe. In 2013 between
January and November the Zimbabweans imported about 206 519 cars worth over $606 million
(ZIMSTATS,The Herald 23 April 2014).Thus the importation of second hand vehicles is worsening
the trade deficit that is already unfavorable as in 2013 the budget deficit stood at
$3billion(ZIMSTAT).
Willowvale Mazda Motor Industry s production slumped from 18 000 vehicles per year in 1997
to below 4 000 vehicles and stopped producing in 2012 (Zimbabwe Independent 22 May 2015),this
was mainly due to the importation of second hand vehicles by the Zimbabweans as they were less
costly and complied with their budgets, the other players such as Quest motors and Croco motors in
the automobile sector are being affected in the same manner leading to unemployment due to low
capacity utilization in these companies as the demand new vehicles was estimated to be 25
000(Zimbabwe Independent 22 May 2015).

to the entitlement and bond to blood and soil experienced by the Germans under Nazi rule. History
has proven time and time again that attempting to achieve utopiaonly results in several wars and
countless casualties. We could argue the aspects of every socio economic system and never obtain
any objective understanding, however there is one point that I cannot concede: Pragmatic
Liberalism is the an emerging utopist force and it is becoming dangerously popular amongst the
general public. The methods we use in the first world are naive in regards... Show more content on

In europe, several countries are still able to provide universal health care, state pensions, free post

Summary Of The Carnegie Steel Company
Andrew Carnegie was the owner of the Carnegie Steel Company. He was the first to implement
vertical integration in his business. Vertical integration is basically buying out your supply chain
to lower your costs. In Andrew s case he would buy railroad companies and iron mines. Once he
had acquired the manufacturing, raw materials, and transportation that his steel company needed
he was able to lower prices and improve his margins. Apple is technology monster. It is a 4 in 1

Sacrifice Is Sacrifice
Another fact is that no vision can be accomplished without sacrifice. Together with personal
discipline is sacrifice, which is another word that people interpret as meaning that they have to give
up some things for one thing that they enjoy doing. It generally means sacrificing something of a
low nature to get a better thing or a thing of a higher nature.
Sacrifice is really all about making daily choices to stay on the narrow road to success. Instead of
buying a video game to exercise your thumbs, buying instructional books and manuals to improve
knowledge and increase prospects is a sacrifice. Instead of doing what you want to do, doing what
is necessary to become the best is a sacrifice. I wanted to become a good athlete in my secondary
school inter house sport day, so I set a daily routine and stuck with it, even when I did not feel
like it. I would go to a field in the neighborhood, run from one end to the other, day in and day
out. In the school inter house sport day that year, I won two gold medals, 100m race and 200m
race. This is sacrifice. Without the need, desire and determination to improve, people lack the
means to develop and therefore will not make any sacrifices.
Sacrifice is being willing to give up something good for something better. Life is full of boundless
possibilities but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to distinguish making a sacrifice from making an offering. Offerings are
functionally equivalent to small gifts given to family or friends as a way of showing affection
and maintaining a relationship. As such, the gift of time is an offering, not a sacrifice, for it is not
a sacrifice to visit one s friends; rather, it s something that is done on a regular basis to keep the
relationship in good working order, and to let them know you appreciate them. I would also
distinguish sacrifice from communion, which is an offering that is shared between the celebrants

Underdeveloped Medical Practices
The medical practices used today are called barbaric and underdeveloped, causing people in this
state to think that the doctors we have use no sense of logic when treating patients. But, there are
a great deal of people who beg to differ. Also, there are people who agree with the other critics
and furious families who blame the doctors for losing their loved ones. Medical practices, and
medicine in general, have helped the soldiers out on the battlefield in many ways, ranging from the
lives that the people save for quick and efficient surgeries, like amputation, to the sanitation of
hospitals and recovery stations, and the dietary regimes that help the soldiers, and even innocent
bystanders, get back to their former shape, even with a lost... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Well, in hospitals, of course. These hospitals, makeshift and actual hospitals, are very
resourceful in a way that our men fighting in the War don t have to lay around on threadbare
blankets and have very low food supply while they re healing. Makeshift hospitals right now are
made out of old churches, with volunteers to help the wounded, both men and women. They are
installed with beds, and washrooms where the wounded can clean up independently or with help
from the nurses or their assigned doctors. They have even installed a dietary regime to help the
men heal faster! But, there are still some questionable methods as to what the hospitals do. Our
readers ask, What about the mobile hospitals? and others, What about the training? . Sadly, the
nurses in these hospitals aren t really trained, especially the women. But, who says a woman
needs to be trained to help men in need? Wouldn t anyone help them in any way they can? Also,
the mobile hospitals are used for transporting wounded soldiers to the nearest hospital, while doing
what they can to keep the patients stable ( Civil War (Gale)). They may not be the requested mode
of transportation, but they still help our men in the best way they can. If the people of West
Virginia donated resources and money, the female nurses and male nurses could get training and the

Sociocultural Theory And Second Language Learning
Sociocultural Theory and Second Language Learning
Language is the most pervasive and powerful cultural artefact that humans possess to mediate their
connection to the world, to each other, and to themselves [Lantolf Thorne 2006:201]. The idea of
mediation inherent in this notion of the language is a fundamental element of Sociocultural Theory
[SCT], one of the most influential approach to learning and mental development since 1990s ,
drawing on its origin from the work of soviet psychologist and semiotist Lev Vygotsky and many
others.
In this essay, I am going to describe major principles of SCT and its central constructs [particularly
Semiotic Mediation, The Zone of Proximal Development] and I am going to provide some
examples of related research that have been framed in these concepts.
1.SEMIOTIC MEDIATION
The concept of semiotic mediation focuses on understanding of the ways in which signs carry,
mediate, and constitute sociocultural meaning. According to Lantolf [2014], this sign based
process arises from interactions that occur in the social relationship culturally organized at both a
macro level [institutional arrangements] and micro level [e.g. conversation]. In this part, I will
outline main principles of the Vygotsky s theory of linguistic mediation [based on the definition of
language as a mean of mediation] and Whorf s theory [based on definition of the language is as a
shaper of ideas].

Walgreens was founded in 1901 measuring 50 feet by 20 feet by Charles R. Walgreen, Sr.. Mr.
Walgreen was born near Galesburg, Illinois and his family later relocated to Dixon, Illinois at

16, Charles Walgreen had his first experience working in a drug store. He didn t always have

It was not until 1901 that Mr. Walgreen was able to put together enough money for the down

Blood owned. However, Mr. Blood wasn t that eager to sell to Mr. Walgreen. Although, they had a
good working relationship and Mr. Walgreen was a trusted employee, Mr. Blood was skeptical to
sell. Mr. Blood decided to sell at $6,000 instead of the original selling price of $4,000. Mr.
Walgreen thought the new selling price was a little steep for his pockets, but he decided to take a
loan a buy it any way.
Walgreen s drugstore was located in Barrett s Hotel at Cottage Grove and Bowen Ave on
Chicago s Southside. The neighborhood was prospering but Walgreen s wasn t. Mr. Walgreen
decided to add brighter lights, expand the aisles (since the other pharmacies were dull and
cramped), and add variety like pots and pans (unheard of in a drugstore. The quality of Walgreen s
pharmaceutical compounds met the very highest standards of purity and freshness. Efficiency was
increased. But the most dramatic change Mr. Walgreen instituted was a lever of service and
personal attention unequaled by virtually any other pharmacy in Chicago. And this was exemplified
by Walgreen s famous Two Minute Drill (Walgreen, n.d., p. 3).

Maya Angelou Poetry
In regards to Maya Angelou s life, she said: If we lose love and self respect for one another, this
is how we finally die ( Maya Angelou Quotes 2018). This was seen throughout her body of work.

In the poem the free bird lives wistfully and free, but the cage bird lives behind metal bars raging
for freedom. Maya gives us details and clues about how the birds feel and live. In stanza three
lines twenty through twenty three the poet uses repetition to show us how the dark, depressed
bird only longs to be free like the wistful bird. The bird expresses its feelings through singing on
a hilltop. It says, ...on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom. It repeats the same
lines in stanza six lines thirty six through thirty nine. Also in the poem, Maya used symbolism to
convey how the dark bird is in oppression, stuck behind closed doors, and unable to free itself. In
stanza five lines twenty seven through thirty it says, But a caged bird stands on the grave of
dreams his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he
opens his throat to sing. Overall, Maya Angelou revealed her story and how she felt through the
intricate words of this poem. Her emotions are evident and are described through the persecution of
the bird in a very intriguing

Effective Classroom Management And Its Effect On Student...
Classroom management creates a set of expectations used in an organized classroom environment.
It includes routines, rules and consequences. Effective classroom management paves the way for
me as a teacher to engage my students in learning. Classroom management has an impact of teacher
effectiveness on studentachievement. Effective teachers can prevent all discipline problems by
keeping students interested in learning through the use of exciting classroom materials and
activities. Some say the most effective teachers are the ones that have great classroom management
skills. What we all wantas educators is a self governed classroom that can govern self by using
procedures, rules and routines. Classroom management is having a self governed classroom by

According to Wong, the characteristics of a classroom that has highly effective classroom
management are: The students are deeply involved with their work, especially with academic,
teacher led instruction. Students know what is expected of them and are generally successful.
There is relatively little wasted time, confusion, or disruption. The climate of the classroom is work
oriented, but relaxed and pleasant. (pg86)

making lessons highly engaging and fast paced. To keep the engagement going in a classroom

Pros And Cons Of Tattoos
Today, older generations view tattoos as trashy, unclassy, and unprofessional; while younger
generations think they are more acceptable, art like, and a way to further express yourself.
Tattoos today are becoming more accepted by the younger generations. As a result of this it is
now much easier to have visible tattoos in a workplace today, then it was years ago, but tattoos
still have a long way to go before being completely accepted like they are amongst other
countries, and/or cultures. People like to say be yourself and don t let anyone else stop you from
being you. Yet as people grow up and start to find who they want to be, they find themselves
getting judged for many things. People could be judged for many things whether it s the color...

However, to really understand opinions on tattoos and how they ve changed, one has to look at
tattoos in the workplace. USA Today published an interview with a man named Richard Bailey.
Bailey is 45 years old and has very visible tattoos all up and down his arms. 20 years ago, Bailey
was working in a social services sector. Based on his experience in the workplace there, he said
that people were very prejudiced and judgy towards him if he were to wear a short sleeved shirt.
Additionally, he said that he would get odd looks.( Monty, Lynn ) Going back to another man
with tattoos who also receives odd looks, Kevin Bailey says that he felt the most discrimination
when getting interviewed for a job. Kevin said he was told that It wasn t the best idea to turn up
with my tattoos showing. Kevin then questions this by asking, How does a person s artwork on
their skin, deem them different to the norm of society? , following with Having tattoos does not
affect your suitability for a job. ( Bailey, Kevin ) If this statement is true, then why has it been so
hard for people with visible tattoos to get jobs? With roughly 45 million Americans having tattoos
today, ( The Progression of Social Acceptance of Tattoos ) one would think having tattoos is the
norm . Subsequently, these people should be fine

History in the 80s
Describe entertainment and music from the 80s: The 80s had a very distinct personality to its
pop culture phenomena. It was in the 80s that we saw the first mass explosion of hysteria for
new toys, with the 1983 winter shortage of Cabbage Patch Dolls. One of the biggest pop culture
crazes of its times, the individually named and crafted Cabbage Patch Dolls join the ranks of the
dolls of each decade, reflecting the eternal power of the doll. Trivial Pursuit, a response to a few
decades of mass information and the development of world wide pop culture, also appeared in
1983 and remains today as an after dinner favorite to show off all that Jeopardy worthy

Many of the musicians during the 1980s have maintained staying power and are still popular
today. Other artists enjoyed a modicum of success during the decade and they are not even
widely recognized today, save for the television programs that strive to reunite the bands and
give exposure to artists of the time. Following is some descriptions and explanations of the
bands and interests that helped to change the face of music in the 80s. MTV, or Music
Television, may have been the single most influential entity in music industry during the 1980s .
Premiering in 1981, MTV gave bands and artists greater exposure for their music in a greater
and more widely popular medium. The first video ever played on MTV was aptly titled Video
Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles. Duran Duran is one of the more popular 80s bands that
enjoyed the exposure that MTV gave them, too. Many experts have said that MTV is what made
Duran Duran one of the most popular bands to come out of the 1980s era. New Wave and
Synthpop was another genre of music that came about during this era. This form held on to many
of the attributes of the popular Punk Rock genre coming out of the 1970s, but it had different
characteristics. While the Punk Rock of the 1970s was a retaliation against the government and the
establishment, the New Wave and Synthpop forms were meant to be anti corporation in a more
experimental sense, both

The Stuffed Winnie The Pooh Bear Analysis
Growing up, I owned a stuffed Winnie the Pooh bear. I loved the show, and loved Pooh even
more. On Sundays, I would dress my Pooh bear in my sister and I s doll clothes and bring it with
me to church. One Sunday, an older kid at Sunday School mocked my Winnie the Pooh bear,
because Pooh is a boy but I made mine wear a dress. At the young age of 5, I didn t understand
why Pooh couldn t be a girl to me, even though the character from the television show was a boy.
I left Sunday School that day sad and confused. I always thought of Pooh as a girl, and it crushed
me to find out different. I decided I would change my favorite character to a girl character, get a
new stuffed animal, and let her wear dresses to church to avoid getting mocked. However,... Show

that children could try and monitor their own television usage, or that parents could monitor it

Although, the persona does state that the actual truth exists in some. Hill acknowledges that some
have not given into what society wants us to believe and have adopted their own way of thinking
and living. This is clearly proven in the poem when the author states, Light shown in darkness,
image exposed. Few can see through the new emperor s clothes (lines 13 14). Light illuminates the
idea of the truth in society. Hill alludes to new emperor s clothes, primary symbolizing lies and
deception (line 13). The persona states that few can actually see through the lies that have been
provided. When we are being lied to time after time, these lies become a part of our psyche and
are then repeated and reproduced later in time. This false belief is slowly killing the minds of
society.
Fallacy is defined as deceptive appearance, guile, trickery, or false or mistaken idea (Merriam
Webster 1). The persona presents the fact that we have been sucked into what the world wants
us to believe. The more we are lied to, the more we are going to be negatively affected. Moral
dilemma, pride is the root. Misguided from youth, heart divided from truth (lines 28 29).We have
been taken from what is right and thrown into the wrong. Hill is stating that we have been
misguided at a very young age. Our minds and hearts have been separated from what is right in
the world. Lacan s Model of the Psyche can be directly related to how the persona feels about this

Descriptive Essay About My Favorite Place
For many people there is a sweet smell, a pleasing photograph, the familiar sound of happiness
that bring them back to a place full of childhood images. In my life, I was lucky enough to have
traveled to some of the most beautiful places on Earth. I have swum with the dolphins in crystal
blue sea of Phuket Thailand and watch golden ray of the sunshine set behind mount Fuji in
Japan. However, no places earth will compare to the loveliness of my childhood paradise, a place
I called home. Barbara Kingsolver writes, I have a place where all my stories begin, and my
story began at a lake house located on the water edge of Little Toad Lake, Minnesota.
(Kingsolver 939). It is where I spent half my life with my dog (Spike), sister, mom, and dad,
through the hot summer days and freezing winter months. The house was built on the side of a
steep hill leading down to a beach front lake. The main entrance had a big double iron door
which lead into the living room overlooking the lake. The main living area had several big
windows which let in a brilliant of sunlight onto the dark walnut floor. The fireplace mantle
displays a big moose head that my dad shot on his hunting trip to Alaska (his prize possession).
My favorite place of the house would be the kitchen. That s where all my lessons of cooking
started. Thank you to my mom for teaching me the value of cooking. If it wasn t for her I would
be eating ramens every day at college. Oh, the memories we had at the lake house. In the spring, my
mom, sister, and I go on long walks in the woods to go mushroom hunting because who doesn t
love free food. I remember making mushroom soup for the first time and almost burning my
hands off because I forgot to turn the stove down to low and the pot was overflowing onto the
floor. I could still remember the facial expression on my mom s face, let just say she was not a
happy camper. One summer day, my sister and I were out fishing with my mom on the pontoon
and we were catching a lot of fish and out of nowhere it started pouring rain. My mom started the
pontoon and guess what? We ran out of gas in the middle of the lake. It took as over two hours to
paddle back to shore but thank goodness it stopped raining. To this day we still

  • 3. Nursing Interventions for Pneumonia Nursing Interventions Nurses play a vital role in observing and interpreting the current symptoms of patients. It is vital that nurses are able to understand the overall symptoms associated with certain diseases and drugs and can confidently present this information to the physician for review and proper patient treatment. Here, the patient s symptoms are suggesting a distinct and dangerous disease as well as possible side effects from Fentanyl. The patient s overall symptoms and lab work suggest that she is suffering from hospital acquired pneumonia. Currently the patient is presenting a moist chesty cough. Additionally, her heart rate is elevated, her oxygenation is low, and her RR is high. She has a raised white blood cell count, which indicates infection. Finally, the patient is acting confused and disoriented, which can be the direct result of a lack of oxygenation to the brain. All of these symptoms point to pneumonia (Torres, 1999). The interventions for pneumonia are as follows. First, the patient must have oxygen administered to increase the blood s oxygenation level and ensure proper oxygenation to the body s organ systems. As the patient is treated with oxygen, she should be encouraged to breath deeply, as oxygen is the best cure of pneumonia. Next, vitals should be consistently monitored and oxygen treatment repeated whenever the oxygenation level drops below 90 percent. Finally, the on call physician should be notified of the patient s condition so that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. T. V. Lbo Case Summary In 1980, at Piscataway Township High School, 14 year old T.L.O. and a peer were caught smoking cigarettes in a school restroom which violated school rules. The two violators were taken to the Assistant Vice Principal s office where one student confessed to smoking while the other, T.L.O., denied the allegation. The Assistant Vice Principal demanded T.L.O to hand over her purse where he found cigarette papers, cigarettes, a pipe, marijuana, a list of students who owed T.L.O., and a large amount of money. The school authorities contacted T.L.O. s mother who then brought T.L.O. to turn herself in; she eventually confessed to having sold marijuana on school grounds. Juvenile delinquency charges were brought upon T.L.O. in the Juvenile and Domestic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the case went to the U.S. Supreme Court they ruled in a 6 3 margin in favor of the State of New Jersey. They agreed that the student s 4th Amendment had not been violated and the search of personal possessions can apply to school officials, as long as the search is reasonable. Significance of Case to Education The landmark case New Jersey v. T.L.O. made administrators more aware of student issues and how they can impact the entire school and community. For example, without New Jersey v. T.L.O. the use of metal detectors in schools would not be possible; their use ensures the safety of students and staff while on school grounds. More advanced scanning systems in airports and highway patrol checkpoints in the 1990s have based their practice off of the decision made in this case. This case has also set the groundwork for forthcoming cases such as Bethel School District v. Fraser where the courts decision was based on this landmark case. It was stated that basically students are not granted the same coextensive rights as adults in other settings outside of school . Institutions of education still apply the decisions made in New Jersey v. T.L.O. to today s school settings to maintain order and accountability of student well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing A Cyborg Manifesto And Letter In Birmingham Jail In A Cyborg Manifesto , Donna Haraway, the author relates feminism to cyborgs in that male /female and biology/technology are dualities. However, is the Civil Rights Movement not an undertaking between dualities as well (African Americans/Caucasian)? By applying Haraway s idea that male/female can be united just like bio/tech are in cyborgs to MLK s Letter in Birmingham Jail that states that the Civil Rights Movement is an undertaking by the African Americans to gain rights equal to those of Caucasians, we can see that perhaps African Americans can be united with Caucasians just like male/female and bio/tech. She is loving, witty, loyal, strong, and willing to take risks so that she and Romeo can be together. This shows that even though they have a high risk relationship it is also very playful. Juliet isn t naive enough to think that their relationship is all fun and games. It is too rash, too unadvis d, too sudden This quote shows that she is aware of how risky their relationship is. She can t do certain things because she is a girl in an aristocratic family, she has none of the freedom Romeo has to roam around the city, climb over walls in the middle of the night, or get into swordfights. The allusion here is that this impending blindness is a threat, for it will interfere with his ordering of religious festivals, and will even mean that his tribal influence will cease to be felt among his people if he fails to observe the progression of the moon. If his religious responsibility will be challenged, his political responsibility will be in danger. He endeavors to console himself by imagining that he is as fit as any young man, or better because young men were no longer what they used to be (1). This gesture is indicative of his desire to maintain a perpetual authority over his tribe; he realizes that old age is beginning to tell him, but this he repudiates. In spite of all the tremendous power in his hands, he knows he depends on the supernatural forces whose ways nobody can understand; this perception renders him somewhat helpless. Even the choice of his successor is in the power of Ulu; therefore, his dependence on the deity is a threat to his authority. • 27. Tourism And Tourism . Introduction Our research question is What happens to tourism in cities after being impacted by a terrorist attack? Most tourists will seek safe and secure destinations when travelling which is why we hypothesize that they will avoid destinations impacted by terrorist attacks in the short term. Terrorism can be defined as an act of targeted violence that appears to intimidate or coerce a sector of the population and/or a government s policies to achieve political or social objectives inside or outside a territorial jurisdiction. The goal of terrorism is to psychologically disrupt possible targets and aim to increase public s fear of terrorism to an illogical and overwhelming state of anxiety. In other words, the goal is for people to believe that anyone and everyone could be a victim at any moment. In a rational world there would be no impact on tourism after terrorist attacks (at least after the immediate danger is handled), however, we expect tourists to avoid such locations beyond this irrationally. Possible behavioural explanations for this avoidance include mortality salience, dread risk and overconfidence, base rate neglect and terror, and news coverage and the availability heuristic. In our research, we will be looking at popular tourist locations because that is where travel is discretionary. These locations include Paris, London, New York, Las Vegas, Manchester, Berlin, Nice, and Orlando, all considered top tourist destinations by the World Tourism Organization . This will allow us to control for travel that is mandatory, such as work based travel. We will use two statistical methods to test our hypothesis: a two sample t test and a regression analysis. The t test will help us compare if the average difference between arrivals 3 months after a terrorist attack and arrivals 3 months into a destination unaffected by terrorism are significant or due to chance. A regression analysis is then used to determine the relationship between death totals in each terrorist attack and tourist arrivals. Existing Research According to SГ¶nmez (1998), when faced with the threat of terrorism tourists tend to engage in a number of behaviors including substituting risky destinations with safer alternatives and ... • 32. Raskolnikov s Ethics Of Care Ethics of care is a theory that tries to explain actions as right or wrong. Held defines ethics of care as a well defined theoretical approach that stands for an alternative to moral theories such as deontological and utilitarian ethics. She argues that ethics of care focuses more on personal relationships and communal ties. While bringing in the concepts of cluster of practices and values into care, she gives a description of a caring person as one who possesses appropriate motivation to care for others and who partakes adeptly in effective practices of caring (Held, 2006). She goes on to support the notion of limiting both market provisions for care and the need for legalistic thinking in ethics, insisting that care ethics possesses superior... His name is derived from the Russian word raskolnik, signifying dissident or isolated, which is proper since his most principal character attribute is his distance from human culture. His pride and intellectualism lead him to abhor whatever is left of mankind as fit only to sustain the species. Interestingly, he trusts that he is a piece of a first class extraordinary man hierarchy and can therefore go against morals for a greater good. On the other hand, that blame that torments him after he kills Alyona Ivanovna and Lizaveta and his repeating faintness at the notice of the homicides serve as verification to him that he is not made of the same stuff as a genuine superman , for example, Napoleon. In spite of the fact that he thinks about the choice to admit for the vast majority of the novel and however he appears to be bit by bit to acknowledge the truth of his average quality, he stays persuaded that the homicide of the pawnbroker was supported. His definitive acknowledgment that he adores Sonya is the main power sufficiently solid to rise above his imbued hatred of humankind. Raskolnikov s associations with alternate characters in the novel do much to light up his identity and comprehension of himself. Despite the fact that he thinks about Razumikhin, Pulcheria Alexandrovna, and Dunya, Raskolnikov is so made up for lost time in his distrustful viewpoint that he is regularly unappreciative of their endeavors to help him. He swings to Sonya as a kindred transgressor of social standards, however he neglects to perceive that her wrongdoing is vastly different from his: while she genuinely gives up herself for the purpose of others, he basically carries out his wrongdoing for his purpose alone. At last, his association with Svidrigailov is baffling. In spite of the fact that he detests the man for his debasement, he likewise appears to need something from him maybe ... • 34. Popular Mechanics Raymond Carver Analysis What is the title of the text and what is the text about? The title is Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver. This dark short story is about a man leaving his female partner, and subsequently, they get into an argument over the custody of their single child (Carver, 1981).. What is the author s view? How do I know? The author seems as if he is distancing himself from the story. The main reason I believe this is his lack of detail and overuse of simple sentences. It s like he is telling a painful story he doesn t want to tell. This analysis is further supported by Carver s own history of physical abuse from his father (Hall, 2009, para. 6). Therefore, the author s point of view aligns with morbid realism. What is the evidence presented by the author to support ideas? It is clear early on that the couple s relationship has failed when... The beginning paragraph about the weather sets expectations of the story, and the forgotten well being of the baby is relevant to the nature of their demise. The story is extremely selective of the detail that is given, and all the detail adds to the tone of the story. Have I heard/read anything similar or dissimilar? What was it? I am reminded only of The Monkey s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs (1911) because the characters blind desires in that story reminds me of the power struggle in Carver s story. Also, the outcome in both stories is not what the characters had intended, and in both stories, neither characters were happy with the outcome. Do I agree or disagree with the views expressed by the author? Why? In some ways, I agree with the views expressed by Carver. Especially Carl s Jr. They have developed a reputation with their salacious ad campaigns, often depicting women in very revealing attires. In their recent advertisement for the 2015 Super Bowl, it features model Charlotte Mckinney where she is baring almost everything. There is more to the commercial than just boobs and burgers. The use of Mckinney s body as a sexual object is discriminating to all women and raises sexism. The stereotypical ad brings imparities between genders and promotes genderpolicing. The attention grabbing, super sexy Au Naturel ad first starts off with the model Mckinney, walking through a farmer s market practically naked while strategically placed items are covering her private areas. She clearly has all the attention of the men at the market. She walks by this one man with a spray hose and he completely turns around to catch a look of Mckinney, who appears fully naked, being covered this time by the spraying water from the hose. She catches another man s attention and is a shot of her bare back with a tomato shaped exactly like her behind, perfectly covering just that. The man then pinches and grabs the side of the tomato. • 36. Students With The Tools And Strategies Introduction The goal for every teacher is to equip their students with the tools and strategies they need to be successful. Educator s today are faced with many obstacles in order to meet the academic and emotional needs of all students in their classroom. Traditional classrooms move students to another classroom at the end of the year, while looping provides educators the opportunity to remain with their students to the next consecutive grade level. The shift toward single grade classes with a single teacher educational model was established and remains prominent today (Roe, 2009). Looping is a practice where the teacher remains with the same students for more than two or more years. Looping provides the potential for both academic and social benefits for students. (Eric Digest) The additional time allows educators to provide students a sense of stability, an expanded curriculum that builds upon previous learning experiences and prior background knowledge, and the time to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships and a sense of community (Kerry Roe, 2009). The idea behind looping is to avoid student anonymity by creating a longer term relationship between the students and their teacher in a learning community. Academic benefits were reports with improved academic achievement scores, and more enthusiastic attitudes toward learning in general. The looping environment offers teachers the opportunity to have a deeper understanding of their students, which will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Antonio Stradivari s Influence On Future Generations Of... Antonio Stradivari is quite often referred to as the greatest violin and stringed instrument maker to ever live. Much of this credit is given to Stradivari because people simply know his name. Countless violinists have expressed over the years the great frequency that people always ask them if they own a Stradivari instrument or not. The reality is, although Antonio Stradivari was certainly a master at his work, he was not the only one to create stringed instruments and certainly was not the first to do so. People remember Stradivari because of the quality of the instruments that he made. Much of our basis for stringed instruments to date has been, however, influenced by Antonio Stradivari. The basis for Stradivari s influence on future generations of musicians and instrument makers was shaped by events that happened before Stradivari was born, the perfectionist way he established his workshop, his death, and the physics and name of his instruments. Many factors helped to create modern string instruments as Stradivari knew them. First, the viol created a strong basis for the modern violin. The viol was a Renaissance instrument that was bowed just like the modern violin, but was fretted and softer than the violin. The viol was a favorable instrument to learn because they were suitable for both courtly and religious music as they had a good, unique sound and were very portable. These qualities were all passed onto the violin and to other stringed instruments. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects Of Second Hand Vehicles In The Zimbabwean Economy INTRODUCTION The Zimbabwean economy is nose diving and experiencing huge cash shortages of the currency in circulation ,this is being seen as the banks are now rationing the payments, giving each individual about $100 per day and sometimes less or no cash , also money is now not easily accessible from mobile bankers like eco cash, telecash and one wallet, this is being caused by the imports which are outweighing the exports and among these imports there is the importation of second hand cars which is seen to have dominated the imports of Zimbabwe. In 2013 between January and November the Zimbabweans imported about 206 519 cars worth over $606 million (ZIMSTATS,The Herald 23 April 2014).Thus the importation of second hand vehicles is worsening the trade deficit that is already unfavorable as in 2013 the budget deficit stood at $3billion(ZIMSTAT). Willowvale Mazda Motor Industry s production slumped from 18 000 vehicles per year in 1997 to below 4 000 vehicles and stopped producing in 2012 (Zimbabwe Independent 22 May 2015),this was mainly due to the importation of second hand vehicles by the Zimbabweans as they were less costly and complied with their budgets, the other players such as Quest motors and Croco motors in the automobile sector are being affected in the same manner leading to unemployment due to low capacity utilization in these companies as the demand new vehicles was estimated to be 25 000(Zimbabwe Independent 22 May 2015). Instead of buying a video game to exercise your thumbs, buying instructional books and manuals to improve knowledge and increase prospects is a sacrifice. Sociocultural Theory And Second Language Learning Sociocultural Theory and Second Language Learning Language is the most pervasive and powerful cultural artefact that humans possess to mediate their connection to the world, to each other, and to themselves [Lantolf Thorne 2006:201]. The idea of mediation inherent in this notion of the language is a fundamental element of Sociocultural Theory [SCT], one of the most influential approach to learning and mental development since 1990s , drawing on its origin from the work of soviet psychologist and semiotist Lev Vygotsky and many others. In this essay, I am going to describe major principles of SCT and its central constructs [particularly Semiotic Mediation, The Zone of Proximal Development] and I am going to provide some examples of related research that have been framed in these concepts. 1.SEMIOTIC MEDIATION The concept of semiotic mediation focuses on understanding of the ways in which signs carry, mediate, and constitute sociocultural meaning. According to Lantolf [2014], this sign based process arises from interactions that occur in the social relationship culturally organized at both a macro level [institutional arrangements] and micro level [e.g. conversation]. • 53. The Stuffed Winnie The Pooh Bear Analysis Growing up, I owned a stuffed Winnie the Pooh bear. I loved the show, and loved Pooh even more. On Sundays, I would dress my Pooh bear in my sister and I s doll clothes and bring it with me to church. One Sunday, an older kid at Sunday School mocked my Winnie the Pooh bear, because Pooh is a boy but I made mine wear a dress. At the young age of 5, I didn t understand why Pooh couldn t be a girl to me, even though the character from the television show was a boy. I left Sunday School that day sad and confused. I always thought of Pooh as a girl, and it crushed me to find out different. I decided I would change my favorite character to a girl character, get a new stuffed animal, and let her wear dresses to church to avoid getting mocked. However,... Young girls ambitions will be diminished, and will force themselves into being housewives or working at jobs society deems appropriate for them. Women have made many influential changes in America the last century, why let it all stop? As Katha Pollitt said, our preschoolers don t have time. My funny, clever, bold, adventurous daughter is forming her gender ideas right now (Pollitt 3). It s possible that children could try and monitor their own television usage, or that parents could monitor it more for them. However, whether it be a minute or an hour, turning on the television to a children s program will display harsh stereotypes and gender roles. That is why I suggest a change in entertainment. It s almost 2016, television and books should be gender neutral and help kids aspire to be more, not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Motives And Thoughts By Lauryn Hill Riche 1 Carlyle S. Riche Jr. English 102.036 Professor Dubose March 10th 2010 The Observation of Global Deception: A Persuasive Essay on Lauryn Hill s Motives and Thoughts Edward George Bulwer Lytton once said, When the world has got hold of a lie, it is astonishing how hard it is to kill it. You can beat it over the head, till it seems to have given up the ghost and behold! The next day it is as healthy as ever (53). Lauryn Hill, an astounding singer, actress, musician and above all artist, who has produced many brilliant and masterful works of art in her career. From writing songs to appearing in American films but her poetic strength has projected the farthest, Hill s poems speak to many, striking nerves and emotions never ... Hill acknowledges that some have not given into what society wants us to believe and have adopted their own way of thinking and living. This is clearly proven in the poem when the author states, Light shown in darkness, image exposed. Few can see through the new emperor s clothes (lines 13 14). Light illuminates the idea of the truth in society. Hill alludes to new emperor s clothes, primary symbolizing lies and deception (line 13). The persona states that few can actually see through the lies that have been provided. When we are being lied to time after time, these lies become a part of our psyche and are then repeated and reproduced later in time. This false belief is slowly killing the minds of society. Fallacy is defined as deceptive appearance, guile, trickery, or false or mistaken idea (Merriam Webster 1). The persona presents the fact that we have been sucked into what the world wants us to believe. The more we are lied to, the more we are going to be negatively affected. Moral dilemma, pride is the root. Misguided from youth, heart divided from truth (lines 28 29).We have been taken from what is right and thrown into the wrong. Hill is stating that we have been misguided at a very young age. Our minds and hearts have been separated from what is right in the world. Lacan s Model of the Psyche can be directly related to how the persona feels about this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. Descriptive Essay About My Favorite Place For many people there is a sweet smell, a pleasing photograph, the familiar sound of happiness that bring them back to a place full of childhood images. In my life, I was lucky enough to have traveled to some of the most beautiful places on Earth. I have swum with the dolphins in crystal blue sea of Phuket Thailand and watch golden ray of the sunshine set behind mount Fuji in Japan. However, no places earth will compare to the loveliness of my childhood paradise, a place I called home. Barbara Kingsolver writes, I have a place where all my stories begin, and my story began at a lake house located on the water edge of Little Toad Lake, Minnesota. (Kingsolver 939). It is where I spent half my life with my dog (Spike), sister, mom, and dad, through the hot summer days and freezing winter months. The house was built on the side of a steep hill leading down to a beach front lake. The main entrance had a big double iron door which lead into the living room overlooking the lake. The main living area had several big windows which let in a brilliant of sunlight onto the dark walnut floor. The fireplace mantle displays a big moose head that my dad shot on his hunting trip to Alaska (his prize possession). My favorite place of the house would be the kitchen. That s where all my lessons of cooking started. Thank you to my mom for teaching me the value of cooking. If it wasn t for her I would be eating ramens every day at college. Oh, the memories we had at the lake house. In the spring, my mom, sister, and I go on long walks in the woods to go mushroom hunting because who doesn t love free food. I remember making mushroom soup for the first time and almost burning my hands off because I forgot to turn the stove down to low and the pot was overflowing onto the floor. I could still remember the facial expression on my mom s face, let just say she was not a happy camper. One summer day, my sister and I were out fishing with my mom on the pontoon and we were catching a lot of fish and out of nowhere it started pouring rain. My mom started the pontoon and guess what? We ran out of gas in the middle of the lake. It took as over two hours to paddle back to shore but thank goodness it stopped raining. To this day we still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
