This comparison becomes problematic when she equates the mill workers position with that of
chattel slaves. By doing so she ignores the realities of both struggles, Davis rhetoric could lead

Though in reality the two only share a few similarities, factory work was far less severe than
chattel slavery that lasted over two centuries.
Davis used this comparison since she was able to witness the atrocities of both chattel and wage
slavery during her lifetime. The use of a slavery comparison would be understood by readers since

Approaching the conclusion of this course, I have learned a lot that could be used in both my
