Essay on revenue recognition
Apple Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets personal computers, mobile communication devices,
and portable digital music and video players and sells a variety of related software, services,
peripherals, and networking solutions. The Company sells its products worldwide through its online
stores, its retail stores, its direct sales force, and third party wholesalers, resellers, and value added
resellers. (Source: Company Form 10 K)

Accordingly, the Company generally recognizes revenue for the sale of products obtained from other
companies based on the gross amount billed. For certain sales made through the iTunes Store, the
Company is not the primary obligor to users of the software, and third party developers determine the
selling price of their software. Therefore, the Company accounts for such sales on a net basis by
recognizing only the commission it retains from each sale and including that commission in net sales
in the Consolidated Statements of Operations. The portion of the sales price paid by users that is
remitted by the Company to third party developers is not reflected in the Company s Consolidated
Statement of Operations.
The Company records deferred revenue when it receives payments in advance of the delivery of
products or the performance of services. This includes amounts that have been deferred related to
embedded unspecified and specified software upgrades rights. The Company sells gift cards and
records deferred revenue upon the sale of the card, which is relieved upon redemption of the card by
the customer. Revenue from AppleCare service and support contracts is deferred and recognized
ratably over the service coverage periods.

Essay on the Rental Heart
Most people have tried it before, and those that haven t are either too young to have tried it, or simply
just heartless. It s terrible and beautiful all at the same time, which is probably why it s such a great
topic for stories. However, getting your heart broken at some point in your life is inevitable. For some,
it happens more than once. This is the case for our main character in the short story The Rental Heart ,
by Kirsty Logan.
To begin with, the reader has no clue as to whether the main character is a boy or a girl. In my head
though, I got the image of a girl. The story is about this girl, who gets her heart broken over and over
again, by boys as well as girls (she is bisexual). It s not really a problem for her, because she ... Show

Maybe it s simply a whole different world! She also uses many symbols, especially to express how
love feels to the main character. The heart was dusty and tarnished and utterly empty . This shows the
reader just how heart broken she was. Her heart hasn t felt real love in a long time, so it is dusty. It has
been abused many times, so it is tarnished. And because of all this, it leaves her with nothing more
than an empty space. Maybe the island that she says she went to for a year isn t really an island that
she actually went to either. Maybe she just closed herself down mentally, unable to deal with the world
with a broken heart. That could have felt to other people, as if she was actually away on an island.
What seems to be pulling this story towards science fiction the most however, seems to be the fact that
even though it s all clearly one big metaphor for getting your heart broken and mending it again, it s
nowhere close to how reality is. Heartbreaks come in all shapes and sizes. But in real life you can t
just go well, tough luck, she wasn t the one for me, so I m not going to be sad about it . Healing a
broken heart takes time in the real, non fictional world. Just changing it like it s nothing, that s the real
science fiction in the story.
All in all, we should be glad that we don t have these kinds of rental services available. It would be
way too boring. What makes life exciting is that it s fragile; you never know

A Reflection On What Makes A Socially Intelligent Leader
In this paper, I will be writing a final reflection on what makes a socially intelligent leader. This will
include a reflection on the article called, Social Intelligence and the Biology of Leadership written by
Daniel Goleman and Richard Boyatzis. Additionally, I will identify my personal top ten leader
attributes and describe them. Lastly, I will discuss my plan for further self development to align
myself better with my leader attributes.
Goleman and Boyatzis write, ...certain things leaders do specifically, exhibit empathy and become
attuned to others moods literally affect both their own brain chemistry and that of their followers (p.
76). This is a finding from research that shows how individual minds combine together to work as a
single system. This means that people who are great leaders have the ability to act with a behavior that
has an influential force on brain interconnectedness. Furthermore, being a leader is more about
developing an interest in people that will nurture positive feelings in them. This will lead them to
provide better cooperation and support back to the leader (Goleman Boyatzis, 2008, p. 76).
A typically leader is thought of a person who is in charge, controls others, assigns tasks, deadlines, and
often is not respected by peers because they are harsh and demanding. This type of leadership is often
unproductive both for the leader and the followers. They do not have a team environment and often

Hypervisibility And Invisibility Of The Black Body Essay
Hypervisibility and Invisibility of the Black Body in Citizen Citizen, written by Claudia Rankine in
2014, narrates testimonies of systematic racism and every day micro aggressions through poems,
essays, scripts and images. Rankine documents the racist encounters through the second person point
of view for the reader to feel and understand the effects racism has on the body and mind. This paper
will examine hypervisibility and invisibility of the black body embedded in the novel because of
decades of racism. Rankine emphasizes the sensory emotions and feelings of the black body as a
response to America s reluctance to recognize and empathize with black men and women. Citizen s
opening poem sets the tone for reflection. She writes when you are alone and too tired even to turn on
any devices, you let yourself linger a past stacked among your pillows, a self awareness of the events
that will arise in the rest of the text (Rankine 5). Throughout the text, the subject in each testimony
manifests a sense of consciousness towards invisibility of his or her body. In an example of
microaggression, the black woman details an incident in a which a white girl cheats off her test and
takes the initiative in thanking [the woman] for letting her cheat and feels better cheating from an
almost white person (Rankine 5). She erases the blackness of the woman to justify her actions, a
common endeavor in white America s exploitation of the black body. This endeavor is evident of the

Why Is World War 1 Necessary
Was World War 1 a Necessary World Conflict?
What happened in World War 1 (WWI)? Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to Austria Hungary s throne,
and his wife, Sophie, were assassinated by Serbian nationalist. Austria Hungary then declared war on
Serbia, Germany declared war on Russia, Germany declared war on France, and the United Kingdom
declared war on Germany, after Germany invades Belgium, then Austria Hungary declares war on
Russia and Serbia declares war on Germany. From there the first battle began. The war mainly took
place in Europe and in the seas. This war caused many casualties. World War One was one of the
deadliest conflicts in the history of the human race, in which over 16 million people died. The total
number of both civilian and military casualties is estimated at around 37 million people. The war
killed almost 7 million civilians and 10 million military personnel (Historyonthenet). World War 1 was
a necessary conflict because of alliances, military tactics, and new inventions.
One of the reasons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war was beneficial to some countries like America. When the war began, the U.S. economy was
in recession. But a 44 month economic boom ensued from 1914 to 1918, first as Europeans began
purchasing U.S. goods for the war and later as the United States itself joined the battle (Lozada). WWI
helped spark inspiration for change, in agriculture. The First World War also signifies an important
turning point in the history of American food consumption because it represents a shift in eating
habits, culinary practices, and domestic food preparation, including the infiltration of fresh home
grown fruit and vegetables and preserved or canned foods into the US diet, and the introduction of
supermarkets (Tanfer Emin). During the time of WWI, many technologies were created. Sanitary
napkins, watches, lamps, and more all came from WWI. This world conflict was necessary in order for

Business Types Of Mr Wong Can Enter Into
There are numerous business types that Mr Wong can enter into. The one that I will recommend will
be a convenience store. He can pursuit this path as follows: 1. Sole Trader which more or less to be
controlled and financed solely by him and the advantage of managing self is that all decisions will be
made by him, setting up is easy and high degree of control. Lastly, he will be his own boss and have
the flexibility of doing things at his own pace, however the consequences of this type of venture is that
once he is no longer around to foresee things the business ceases and in terms of cover for any
eventuality such as illness or holiday it is difficult to fulfil his role with a cover person. 2. Partnership
he can be in partnership with 2 or dozen partners will be controlled and manage by the partners. This
type of venture requires contract and it will govern by Term of the Partnership Act 1890. Each partner
has a shared responsibility and each partner bringing in a speciality. It is easy to set up the burden of
risk is a share among partners. The downside of partnership is that, there is a potential risk of conflict
and partnership dissolved on death of a partner. All partners liable for the debts of the others and
unlimited Liability. 3. Private Limited Company this is usually a small family business owned by 2
and up to 50, shareholders and Directors are elected by shareholders. The advantage of this venture is,
it is difficult for a takeover the business. Also,

Greek Weapons
Throughout the Middle Ages, the creation and the types of weapons, as well as the techniques of using
them, were all different and were suited for a knight s own needs. Since every knight had unique
characteristics and fighting styles, blacksmiths had to cast weapons that met their specifications.
Additionally, the knights needed to be capable of using a plethora of weapons since each had a
specific purpose for different scenarios such as using projectile weapons for ranged combat. In order
to best serve their king, they had to use their weapons skillfully and effectively. To achieve this, the
knights had to know multiple weapon techniques and fighting styles to help them outsmart or
outmaneuver their opponents. Since the knights job was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An aspect that made the creation of a weapon complex were the different physical properties of a
weapon such as the shape of the blade, weight, length, and handle design, which all varied depending
on the characteristics of the owner. For example, a weak male knight was recommended to carry a
lighter sword, so that he would be able to swing his weapon with ease. If the weak knight carried an
extremely heavy sword, the sword would be more difficult to swing, which then causes the knight s
skill in swordsmanship to diminish. Because of this, blacksmiths needed to be knowledgeable of how
each weapon functioned in relation to its physical characteristics. The first step in creating a weapon
was to find iron ores, which was the main resource used to craft many weapons. Miners had to search
for iron ores in the ground and also extract the iron from them. This process was already quite time
consuming and required a lot of difficult work. The crafting of the actual weapon was even more
arduous since blacksmiths had to hammer and weld together thin strips of iron and steel of varying
hardnesses to form the core of the blade. The production of an average steel sword often took around a
week for a decent blacksmith. However, if they were working on a weapon specifically for their king,
it took around six months to ensure perfect

Analysis of The Great Gatsby
The author of The Great Gatsby was F. Scott Fitzgerland whose usage of diction, image, details,
figurative language and different type of structures of the sentence(syntax) creates the passage more
visible and understandable. For example, the author uses a word the valley of ashes to describe the
valley. Furthermore, he creates an image in the reader s mind with descriptive and concise words for
the valley in the better structure of the sentence. Besides, he also uses the figurative language to create
a better image that helps the reader to comprehend the story. Moreover, he uses detail such as the eye
of doctor T.J. are blue and gigantic, to convince the reader to ponder about how important it is to the
story. Overall, the author presented the finest story using his different techniques of writing which
assists the readers to understand the significance of incomplete goals that the main character had.
Diction is a word that holds strong meaning to the passage or text. Similarly, the author of the Great
Gatsby uses a word to describe the whole valley as the valley of ashes in the passage. Furthermore, his
descriptive clue and supporting details acknowledge the audiences that the valley is filled with the
ashes. Another example of the usage of diction is an ash gray man. The author used a color, gray, to
refer the people of the valley and the word gray which resemble the ashes, also support what the

The lottery by Shirley Jackson is a short story about a small town that has a yearly ritual that involves
a lottery . Every year on June 27th the lottery takes place; all the villagers gather around the town
square on that day while gathering stones and rocks. Once everyone has gotten together Mr. summers
proceeds with presenting the lottery. He has a black box where he mixes up slips of papers and throws
them inside, the rules are that he ll read names and the family heads come up and draw a piece of

the lottery does not exist in his world and so any new ideas or anything outside the tradition was shut

Patriotism In The United States
What is patriotism? Patriotism is the love that people feel for their country. A few examples of
patriotism are: 1. When we stand up for the pledge in the mornings. 2. When we stand up for the
National Anthem . Those are both examples of patriotism. America is a free country, so people should
be able to practice patriotism if they want to, but if they don t want to they shouldn t have to.
If someone wants to express them and their country they should be patriotic. But if they would much
rather not say anything they shouldn t have to. I do personally believe they should at least stand during

Persuasive Literary Devices In Amusing Ourselves To Death...
As time has passed the evolution of technology is almost indescribable. Technology has become apart
of our everyday lives. When you think of technology you mostly think about how it has helped
advance our lives, but may never consider its negatives. The media is a huge aspect of how we shape
our society. In the book Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman he shows his concern for how
this all can effect as as a people. He does this by using three popular persuasive literary devices to help
convey his message to the reader. The three devices being: Pathos, Logos and Ethos. All of these are
used many times throughout the book, with their own effects. Logos, is the appeal to logic. When using
this device you are using logical reasoning to help appeal to the reader. This also includes pulling facts,
statics and citing other credible sources to use. The next one is Ethos, which is showing that the author
is a credible source, and is well aware of what he is talking about. Lastly is Pathos, this is when you
appeal to one s emotion to get their attention. In this book Postman does a very good job of using all
of these devices.
Postman was able to incorporate all three of these devices into his book, but the most prominent one in
my opinion is, and that helps to best convey Postman s point is Logos. Logos is using logics and facts.
Two things you very rarely can fight against. Over and over Postman uses facts on how the media is
basically dumbing us down. An example would be

The Release Of India From The British Grip Of Power Seemed
The release of India from the British grip of power seemed to be a historic victory, but it soon posed
problems for the inhabitants the subcontinent. Ever since the formation of Pakistan and India, the East
Pakistani population saw a cultural divide between themselves and their Western counterpart.
Although there were numerous other factors that had contributed to this difference, language was the
one critical catalyst for Bengali self determination. The formation of Bangladeshi nationalism began
with the Bengali Language movement, which was of key significance because it unified the Bengali
people under the banner of nationalism. Historical events leading up to the Bangladesh Liberation

With the goal of avoiding religious bloodbath, what seemed to be a simple, quick fix solution for state
separation posed a series of problems for Pakistan. The problem lay in the fact that there were two
completely different nations that were forced to coalesce into one state. This dilemma can be seen
with the fundamental differences between West and East Pakistan. Although East Pakistan contained a
little over half (54.8%) of the total Pakistani population, it only took up about an eighth (15.1%) of the
total land area. However, the disparities between the East and West do not end with land distribution.
In both foreign aid and per capita income, West Pakistan dominated their Eastern counterpart. This
economic disparity persisted during the ten years of Pakistani independence, and the per capita income
actually worsened over a ten year period (between 1950 1960). The offices of the central Pakistani
government were all located in the west, and recruitment for civil, military, and administrative
positions were predominantly given to West Pakistanis. However, the key difference between West
and East Pakistan lay in culture. Each respective region contained two spheres of peoples that were
vastly different in regards to attitudes and ambitions. The West was a land of mountains and deserts,
and its people mimicked the solidity and stability of its geographic features. The West Pakistanis were
described to be energetic, and had fierce respect for government,

Ardipithecus
The most common way to differentiate between modern humans and apes is human s bipedalism.
There are two fossil species available to the study of Ardipithecus: Ar. ramidus and Ar. kadabba
(Gibbons, 2009). There is much greater evidence to analyze Ar. ramidus, a hominine that lived from
the Late Miocene to the Early Pliocene (Gibbons, 2009). The 1994 discovery of A. ramidus,
commonly referred to as Ardi, included 125 pieces of her skeleton such as pelvis, hands, arms, leg,
and feet (Gibbons, 2009, p. 1598). Furthermore, it was determined that Ardi was a female based on

Ramdius has a small cranial capacity that is metrically and morphologically derived in the direction of
later hominids and shows a reduction in upper canine size (White et al., 2009, p. 80). According to
White et. al. (2009), this signifies that Ar. Ramidus was an omnivore, and while its diet may have
included some hard foods, it generally stuck to ripe fruit (White et al., 2009, p. 64, p. 80). Adding
further evidence, Ardipithecus does not have sharp, daggerlike upper canines seen in chimpanzees
(Gibbons, 2009, p. 1599) Moreover, the muzzle of Ar. Ramidus juts out less than a chimpanzee s does,
also likening the hominid to its ancestors (Gibbons, 2009, p. 1599). However, Ardipithecus
differentiates significantly from Australopithecus in the types of plants it did eat. Australopithecus has
a diet of more than 30% C4 plants while the diet of Ar. Ramdius vary only between ~10 and 25% C4
(White et al., 2009, p. 79). This delineates that Ardipithecus exploited a wider range of woodland
resources than chimpanzees. It also did but did not have access to the open biotype foods later
consumed by Austraolopithecus (White et al., 2009, p. 79). Socially, Ardipithicus lacks the delayed
canine eruption found in chimpanzees (White et al., 2009, p. 79). Similar to Australopithecus, this
indicates that canine was not an important component of adult sociobehaviroal relationships (White et

Reverse Discrimination In The United States
Lately the United States media has been focused on the unfair treatment many people receive based on
their skin tone, whether it is the recent police brutality against African Americans or the focuses the

Reverse discrimination has become a joke with in many minority communities, approximately seven

Lord Of The Rings Realist Analysis
THE LORD OF THE RINGS FROM REALIST PERSPECTIVE
Lord of the Rings written by J. R. R. Tolkien first published in 1954. This fantastic book became more
and more famous when it adapted into screenplay by Peter Jackson in 2001. This work constitute a
perfect background for international theories. For example, some scholars perceive the movie as
liberalist and some as realist. The greens embrace the movie since trees literally go into war and some
feminists also embrace the movie since Eowyn killed the Lord of the Nazgul by declaring I am no
man (Jackson, 2003)
In this article I will try to explain the trilogy Lord of the Rings from the realist perspective. In the first
part of the article I will give a brief summary of the trilogy The Lord of the Rings, in the second part I

Jap A Dominant Country Conducting Whaling Practices
I. Introduction:
For many decades, Japan is well known as a dominant country conducting whaling practices for many
purposes such as obtaining whale meat and oil (Facts about Japan, n.d.). Whaling has been one of the
most important industry in Japan since the WW II post war that provides huge amount of protein and
helps fed Japanese citizens (Animal Planet, n.d.). It is believed that the coastal villages were where
hunting whales was first claimed to take place in shore with hand thrown harpoons, but it was not the
main interest of many people (Whalingmuseum, n.d.). It was not until the 17th century that whaling
industry had a dramatic development due to an invention of hunting in groups of boats using net

1. Social:
It is evident that whaling practices can lead to a reduction in the population of whales, ecosystem
degradation, and even cause the species to the brink of extinction (International Whaling Commission,
n.d.). The main factors causing the problem are over exploitation, disturbance from whaling vessels,
entanglement in fishing gears, and environmental factors (International Whaling Commission, n.d.).
According to the WDC (n.d.), more than 36,700 whales were killed after the 1986 moratorium in
which Japan accounted for nearly 20,000 whales. The International Whaling Commission (n.d.)
reported that the common whales hunted by Japanese, which are Minke, Fin, Sei, Sperm, Bryde s and
Humpback whales, were severely exploited and depleting in terms of population in the Japanese
whaling grounds before the 1986 moratorium. In addition, the operation of whaling fleets apparently
causing noise pollution affecting the communication process of whales and other marine species as
well (Lian Lu, n.d.). Whales are one of the top level animals in the marine food chain, therefore, a
decline in whale population definitely have an impact on the marine ecosystem. Lian and Lu (n.d.),
have said that whale s dead body is a great source of food for the marine animals in a lower depth of
the ocean. Thus, the more whales killed by whaling practices, the less food for others sea creatures and
organisms (Lian Lu, n.d.). Also, nutrients in

How Does Shakespeare Use Deception In The Glass Menagerie
Both William Shakespeare and Tennessee Williams use the theme of deception in King Lear and The
Glass Menagerie respectively to illustrate the difficulty of characters in accepting reality either by
their own volition or due to the fault of another. Firstly, both plays use deception to show how parental
figures like Gloucester and Amanda are unable to see certain truths about their children due to the
unconditional love a parent has for their child. In the case of Gloucester, he is deceived by Edmund
into believing that Edgar is plotting against him. Gloucester is unable to see through Edmund s
deceptions, he says Edmund is no dearer in his account (I.i.19) meaning Gloucester s unconditional
love and trust as a parent has blinded him from Edmund s true ambition. Likewise, in The Glass
Menagerie, Amanda deceives herself in believing there is nothing at fault with Laura. Tom points this
out, saying Laura seems all those things to you and me because she s ours and we love her. We don t
even notice that she s crippled anymore. (Williams 47). Unlike Amanda, Tom is not under any
illusions about his sister and acknowledges that it is love that allows Tom and Amanda to overlook
Laura s shortcomings. Amanda on the other hand has internalized her self deception and from her
fundamental misunderstanding about Laura arises her delusions about her future. Another similarity in
the way these plays handle thematic deception is its use to escape a horrible reality. In King Lear

Virtual Child Observation
Being responsible for the life of another human being can be a little frightening or overwhelming.
Whether the child is real life or, in this case, a virtual child, every single decision made is crucial for
the development of the child s life. Throughout the journey of raising Everett, my virtual son, I was
exposed to a whole new world. I learned so much about the process of teaching and nurturing a child.
It not only is about the love and compassion you give a child, but the discipline and leadership a
parent demonstrates as well. Though these factors contribute greatly to the development of your child,
the way your child behaves and acts is ultimately their decision. Over the virtual life of Everett, I was
faced with many troubling and difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around the age of eight months, Everett began showing some fearfulness around unfamiliar people
and clung to whoever was holding him at the time. The text defines this as stranger anxiety the caution
and wariness displayed by infants when encountering an unfamiliar person (Feldman 2013). Between
the ages of 6 and 9 months, infants are trying to make sense of the world around them. When face to
face with a stranger, they experience fear. My decision was to hold Everett and allow him to warm up
slowly to the stranger. I knew that this was normal at his age and did not want to cause him to be any
more frightened. Other than him being fussy at times, Everett was a fairly easy baby. Despite his
cautiousness of new people, he adapted rather quickly to friendly people. He always made eye contact
and vocalized. As Everett reached the age of 18 months, I began taking him to participate in new
activities and meet new children and adults. I figured the variety of experiences would be stimulating
and, in the long run, help him warm up to people easier. At this point, Everett was becoming more and
more independent and talkative. He only had about ten words he said on a regular basis, so I decided
that it was a good time to begin working with him with expanding his vocabulary and communication
skills. Everett loved to point at objects and have me tell them what they were. It was like a little game!
At the age of two years old, I began to notice that Everett was developing self awareness. One article
states, Awareness involves a unification of several stimuli into an awareness of one unitary content
(Kriegel, 2009). In this case, that would be the self. He displayed characteristics of having self
awareness by smiling in pictures, looking guilty when he made an uh oh! , and even showing
embarrassment while potty training. I began working with Everett to doing things like brush his own

Essay And What I Say
The Great Depression lasted from October 24, 1929 until the economic recovery of the 1940s. On
October 29, Black Thursday, the stock market crashed heavily, and continued to fall sharply
throughout the coming weeks. As a result, the United States and the world were thrown into a decade
of poverty and unemployment. The depression affected all sectors of the economy. Farm owners and
agricultural workers suffered from falling crop prices. Businesses failed from a lack of investment
support and a decline in the ability of the masses to afford their products. Banks closed their doors as
the nation s citizens hoarded their money and defaulted on loan payments. Unemployment and abject
poverty enveloped the nation.

The nation mobilized, and it appeared the economy might improve. However, the economy remained
troubled, and criticism of the New Deal rose up in the government and in some political circles. A
number of Supreme Court Rulings effectively dismantled the primary mechanisms of FDR s plan.
Undaunted, and gaining a public mandate with the Democratic successes in the 1934 midterm
election, FDR set forth the Second New Deal in 1935. This program reaffirmed the administration s
commitment to public support of the nation s troubled people. Great steps were taken in attempts to
solve the unemployment problem and stimulate economic recovery. The legislation passed during this
period would be the framework of the New Deal throughout the remainder of the decade. The
economy showed some signs of recovery but was set back by the 1937 recession. After that, FDR
enacted few additional measures to cope with the depression. Finally, economic recovery took place
under the war economy of the early 1940s, with levels of poverty and unemployment returned to pre
depression levels.
The Depression brought marked changes to the political and entertainment culture of the United
States. A culture of dissent and disillusionment produced ample political outlets, such as Huey Long s
Share Our Wealth program. Dissent and disillusionment sparked by the depression affected popular
culture as well. The 1930s were the golden age of radio. Radio shows, most of them comedies and

Quiet Majority
The Worries of a Quiet Majority. (Persuasive Essay Final Draft)
As I walk closer to someone I wish to speak to, the feeling of dread increases at the same rate as my
approach. I start planning exactly what I want to say, with the knowledge that my words will not come
out that way at all. Having reached what is considered the appropriate distance for conversing, I
mentally look over my words one more time before sending them along. As my fear mounts I draw a
breath, let it out, and proceed to breathe again. I tell myself to stop stalling and as the words rise up,
they stop at my throat. I silently yell at myself to get on with it as sweat starts to break out. The words
are in my mouth now, but my mouth does not move. I scream, internally, to just say it, say it, SAY IT!
I ask my friend if I can get a ride home with them, they say, sure thing . On the outside, I am calm and
collected; on the inside, my soul collapses into an exhausted puddle. This is not the first time it has

When You Are Old By William Butler Yeats
When You Are Old is a poem that was written by William Butler Yeats in 1891. It is a poem about a
person who wants to be remembered by those he loves. It is a story about dreams forgotten and
memories long gone. Yeats captured a feeling of longing in this poem that some people may never
understand unless they have a relationship that is more to them than any other relationship they will
ever have. When You Are Old talks about a woman who was loved by a man until he died. It is a story
of how a life should be remembered by a person who loved another. When You Are Old is about the
love of a man for a woman whom he had on a pedestal. He felt this woman was loved by many with a
true and deep love and loved by others with a false love. He felt this woman was loved much like
people today love celebrities. Yeats wrote about this woman as though he knew her intimately. He asks
her to slowly read, and dream of the soft look, Your eyes had once and of their shadows deep (Yeats).
He wants her to remember how things were in her youth. He wants her to remember her dreams and
think of how things were and how they may have been. Yeats is asking her to take her time and day
dream about her glory days. In the first lines of the poem Yeats describes this woman as old and grey
and full of sleep (Yeats). The speaker of the poem addresses his beloved saying that when she is aged
she should read a particular book which will remind her of her youth. She will remember the

As the first semester of my first year as an undergraduate student has progressed, I have realized how

myself to be stumbling from morning to morning and from deadline to deadline. I am mentally and
physically exhausted as well as overwhelmed with the amount of work I am required to complete; I
am burnt out. At the beginning of the semester I had created several academic goals which would aid
in my overall academic success. These goals consisted of organizing and planning out my week in

assignments and studying. I believe that each one of my goals are achievable, distinct and will reward
me with an increase in my overall academics, however I did not achieve my goals for more than two
weeks. As I didn t plan out my schedule I had also lost track of my responsibilities and was
unproductive most of the time. As a result, I found myself behind in my readings and was working on

How Political Parties Harm Democracy
Political parties exist in a democracy as a way for likeminded individuals to be united over a set of
shared beliefs. (Daniel) Political parties allow the members of the party to elect politicians to
government positions in order to advance their beliefs. (Hargrave) The political parties offer their
members strength in numbers, by uniting large numbers of individuals into a collective group; they
can select the best candidates to pursue their interests, as opposed to having thousands of individuals
running for office based on a very narrow spectrum of beliefs. (Daniel) While political parties help
organize the election process and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ways in which people vote have led to a situation where there are two political parties that
dominate the elections. This leads to an inability of the voters to choose the candidates of their likings.
The existence of political parties has led to a situation in the United States that is inconsistent with the
intentions of a representational style of government that the country was formed on. The existence of
these political parties has taken much of the power and ability to control the government away from
the citizens. (Hargrave) The United States government is set up in a way that allows the people to
elect individuals that they see best fit for serving their needs and desires. This is evident in the House
of Representatives. In the House of Representatives, each representative is elected by the people of his
district. The citizens of each district vote on the candidate that will best serve their needs once in
Washington D.C. (Davidson) Although the representatives are elected based on their promises to their
constituencies, they face a great challenge once in office, and that is the political party to which they
belong. While serving in the House of Representatives, the individual congressmen that are elected by
the citizens of their districts are expected to comply with the beliefs of the political party that they
belong to. By having to vote on issues based on the

The Interior Of A Formal Courtroom
The interior of a formal courtroom glistens in a sepia hue. The bench overlooks the room, with
herringbone flags representing their country. A bar harshly splits the room while oak tables rot as they
pay homage to the solemn victors. Dueling jury boxes frame the edges of the room their panels
demarcated by sharp bezels and accompanied by stern lecterns varnished an undistinguished gray.
Mirroring benches lay vacant, with the exception of two overwrought neighbors and one anguished
woman holding her 6 month old child. A corona of incandescence emphasises the indents separating
each weathered stave along the wall. Walking sounds can be heard through the left wall of the
courtroom.
[Two men enter through the leftmost door, Mark Wallace, J.D. and Stanley Kowalski. They are about
thirty years old, sharply dressed in black formalwear. Mr. Wallace carries an ebony suitcase
overflowing with folders and documents. Stanley, guided by the hand of Mr. Wallace, stands shoulder
to shoulder with his defence attorney. Seconds later the other side of the room mirrors the men s
actions; Blanche, a fragile woman in her thirties, enters the room accompanied by her prosecutor, Ella
Stone. Mrs. Stone withers with age as she struggles to cling on to the many folders in hand. Judge
Ruth Anthony sits herself center bench, accompanied by Bailiff Scott. She scans the room from

The Letter Apology Of The Stolen Generations By Kevin Rudd
The 2008 apology to the Stolen Generations by Kevin Rudd is historically significant for a number of
reasons (Creative Spirits, 2014). Some felt it provided closure to a painful and traumatic part of
Indigenous history while others fail to see how the apology has in the years after proven to change the
circumstances of Indigenous peoples. Impacts in areas such as health, education, economic
opportunity and involvement in child protection and/or the criminal justice system are all areas which
should have been impacted by the Apology (Creative Spitis, 2014). However; as this essay will
explore very little impact has been made in any of these areas in actual fact in some ways the gap has
been made wider or perpetuated by acts of government. The Apology was a significant historical event
but it is important to explain why it happened before examining the affects it has had on the
Indigenous community and wider Australia (Creative Spirits, 2014). The Apology was more then just
simply an apology, it acted as a statement of acknowledgement by the Australian Government that
previous governments had committed wrongdoings by removing thousands of Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander children from their homes and families to be placed with White families and missions
(religious camps which taught children white values essentially removing them from all their cultural

Arthur protects Arthur by causing the Archbishop to surround Arthur with knights until he is accepted.

Merlyn in The Once and Future King protects Arthur by removing Arthur and transforming him back

protection, Merlin in Le Morte D Arthur provides indirect protection through others; whereas, Merlyn
in The Once and Future King provides more direct or hands on advice. Direct protection, in my
opinion, is better than indirect protection because it is more reliable, and it goes through less people
which lessens the chance of alterations. Second of all, both Merlin in Le Morte D Arthur and Merlyn

4.0 PESTEL Analysis POLITICAL The political environment in a country affects its business

Identity In The Great Gatsby
So, the notions of love and identity are ubiquitous themes explored by many composers throughout
time. As with most concepts, its depiction and interpretation are not consistent but rather, are dynamic.
In essence they are constantly reconstructed in order to remain relevant to the composer s context,
purpose and audience. As such, the treatment of love and identity is shaped by the perspectives of
individuals within society in accordance to their contextual values.

The spiritual dimension in which Barret Browning s ideal love encompasses is of no value to, if not
all, most, of the characters in the strictly secular and consumerist world of The Great Gatsby. This can
be seen interpreted as the reason why all of the relationships in the novel were doomed to fail they
lacked the spiritual means to achieving an eternal love. None of them ever loved each other for the
love s sake
This can be seen with Jordan Baker whose character is depicted as a careless and incurably dishonest
flapper. With her name bearing two popular car brands, she is pretty much the embodiment of
materialistic and hedonistic values of the Jazz age. Virtually, the nature of the love she shares with
Nick Carraway remains in the physical realm unlike the persona s of Barrett Browning. This is
supported by Carraway s observation, I wasn t actually in love, but I felt a sort of tender curiosity
which emphasizes the inherent shallowness of such form of love. Though, it would seem that Jay

  • 2. Essay on revenue recognition Apple Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets personal computers, mobile communication devices, and portable digital music and video players and sells a variety of related software, services, peripherals, and networking solutions. The Company sells its products worldwide through its online stores, its retail stores, its direct sales force, and third party wholesalers, resellers, and value added resellers. (Source: Company Form 10 K) Refer to the financial reports of Apple, Inc. for the year ended September 25, 2010 +Concepts+ a. In your own words, define revenues. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Accordingly, the Company generally recognizes revenue for the sale of products obtained from other companies based on the gross amount billed. For certain sales made through the iTunes Store, the Company is not the primary obligor to users of the software, and third party developers determine the selling price of their software. Therefore, the Company accounts for such sales on a net basis by recognizing only the commission it retains from each sale and including that commission in net sales in the Consolidated Statements of Operations. The portion of the sales price paid by users that is remitted by the Company to third party developers is not reflected in the Company s Consolidated Statement of Operations. The Company records deferred revenue when it receives payments in advance of the delivery of products or the performance of services. This includes amounts that have been deferred related to embedded unspecified and specified software upgrades rights. The Company sells gift cards and records deferred revenue upon the sale of the card, which is relieved upon redemption of the card by the customer. Revenue from AppleCare service and support contracts is deferred and recognized ratably over the service coverage periods. • 3. Essay on the Rental Heart Most people have tried it before, and those that haven t are either too young to have tried it, or simply just heartless. It s terrible and beautiful all at the same time, which is probably why it s such a great topic for stories. However, getting your heart broken at some point in your life is inevitable. For some, it happens more than once. This is the case for our main character in the short story The Rental Heart , by Kirsty Logan. To begin with, the reader has no clue as to whether the main character is a boy or a girl. In my head though, I got the image of a girl. The story is about this girl, who gets her heart broken over and over again, by boys as well as girls (she is bisexual). It s not really a problem for her, because she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maybe it s simply a whole different world! She also uses many symbols, especially to express how love feels to the main character. The heart was dusty and tarnished and utterly empty . This shows the reader just how heart broken she was. Her heart hasn t felt real love in a long time, so it is dusty. It has been abused many times, so it is tarnished. And because of all this, it leaves her with nothing more than an empty space. Maybe the island that she says she went to for a year isn t really an island that she actually went to either. Maybe she just closed herself down mentally, unable to deal with the world with a broken heart. That could have felt to other people, as if she was actually away on an island. What seems to be pulling this story towards science fiction the most however, seems to be the fact that even though it s all clearly one big metaphor for getting your heart broken and mending it again, it s nowhere close to how reality is. Heartbreaks come in all shapes and sizes. But in real life you can t just go well, tough luck, she wasn t the one for me, so I m not going to be sad about it . Healing a broken heart takes time in the real, non fictional world. Just changing it like it s nothing, that s the real science fiction in the story. All in all, we should be glad that we don t have these kinds of rental services available. It would be way too boring. What makes life exciting is that it s fragile; you never know ... • 4. A Reflection On What Makes A Socially Intelligent Leader In this paper, I will be writing a final reflection on what makes a socially intelligent leader. This will include a reflection on the article called, Social Intelligence and the Biology of Leadership written by Daniel Goleman and Richard Boyatzis. Additionally, I will identify my personal top ten leader attributes and describe them. Lastly, I will discuss my plan for further self development to align myself better with my leader attributes. Goleman and Boyatzis write, ...certain things leaders do specifically, exhibit empathy and become attuned to others moods literally affect both their own brain chemistry and that of their followers (p. 76). This is a finding from research that shows how individual minds combine together to work as a single system. This means that people who are great leaders have the ability to act with a behavior that has an influential force on brain interconnectedness. Furthermore, being a leader is more about developing an interest in people that will nurture positive feelings in them. This will lead them to provide better cooperation and support back to the leader (Goleman Boyatzis, 2008, p. 76). A typically leader is thought of a person who is in charge, controls others, assigns tasks, deadlines, and often is not respected by peers because they are harsh and demanding. This type of leadership is often unproductive both for the leader and the followers. They do not have a team environment and often only trying to what is needed to just ... • 5. Hypervisibility And Invisibility Of The Black Body Essay Hypervisibility and Invisibility of the Black Body in Citizen Citizen, written by Claudia Rankine in 2014, narrates testimonies of systematic racism and every day micro aggressions through poems, essays, scripts and images. Rankine documents the racist encounters through the second person point of view for the reader to feel and understand the effects racism has on the body and mind. This paper will examine hypervisibility and invisibility of the black body embedded in the novel because of decades of racism. Rankine emphasizes the sensory emotions and feelings of the black body as a response to America s reluctance to recognize and empathize with black men and women. Citizen s opening poem sets the tone for reflection. She writes when you are alone and too tired even to turn on any devices, you let yourself linger a past stacked among your pillows, a self awareness of the events that will arise in the rest of the text (Rankine 5). Throughout the text, the subject in each testimony manifests a sense of consciousness towards invisibility of his or her body. In an example of microaggression, the black woman details an incident in a which a white girl cheats off her test and takes the initiative in thanking [the woman] for letting her cheat and feels better cheating from an almost white person (Rankine 5). She erases the blackness of the woman to justify her actions, a common endeavor in white America s exploitation of the black body. This endeavor is evident of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Why Is World War 1 Necessary Was World War 1 a Necessary World Conflict? What happened in World War 1 (WWI)? Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to Austria Hungary s throne, and his wife, Sophie, were assassinated by Serbian nationalist. Austria Hungary then declared war on Serbia, Germany declared war on Russia, Germany declared war on France, and the United Kingdom declared war on Germany, after Germany invades Belgium, then Austria Hungary declares war on Russia and Serbia declares war on Germany. From there the first battle began. The war mainly took place in Europe and in the seas. This war caused many casualties. World War One was one of the deadliest conflicts in the history of the human race, in which over 16 million people died. The total number of both civilian and military casualties is estimated at around 37 million people. The war killed almost 7 million civilians and 10 million military personnel (Historyonthenet). World War 1 was a necessary conflict because of alliances, military tactics, and new inventions. One of the reasons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The war was beneficial to some countries like America. When the war began, the U.S. economy was in recession. But a 44 month economic boom ensued from 1914 to 1918, first as Europeans began purchasing U.S. goods for the war and later as the United States itself joined the battle (Lozada). WWI helped spark inspiration for change, in agriculture. The First World War also signifies an important turning point in the history of American food consumption because it represents a shift in eating habits, culinary practices, and domestic food preparation, including the infiltration of fresh home grown fruit and vegetables and preserved or canned foods into the US diet, and the introduction of supermarkets (Tanfer Emin). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An aspect that made the creation of a weapon complex were the different physical properties of a weapon such as the shape of the blade, weight, length, and handle design, which all varied depending on the characteristics of the owner. For example, a weak male knight was recommended to carry a lighter sword, so that he would be able to swing his weapon with ease. If the weak knight carried an extremely heavy sword, the sword would be more difficult to swing, which then causes the knight s skill in swordsmanship to diminish. Because of this, blacksmiths needed to be knowledgeable of how each weapon functioned in relation to its physical characteristics. The first step in creating a weapon was to find iron ores, which was the main resource used to craft many weapons. Miners had to search for iron ores in the ground and also extract the iron from them. This process was already quite time consuming and required a lot of difficult work. The crafting of the actual weapon was even more arduous since blacksmiths had to hammer and weld together thin strips of iron and steel of varying hardnesses to form the core of the blade. The production of an average steel sword often took around a week for a decent blacksmith. When you think of technology you mostly think about how it has helped advance our lives, but may never consider its negatives. The media is a huge aspect of how we shape our society. In the book Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman he shows his concern for how this all can effect as as a people. He does this by using three popular persuasive literary devices to help convey his message to the reader. The three devices being: Pathos, Logos and Ethos. All of these are used many times throughout the book, with their own effects. Logos, is the appeal to logic. When using this device you are using logical reasoning to help appeal to the reader. This also includes pulling facts, statics and citing other credible sources to use. The next one is Ethos, which is showing that the author is a credible source, and is well aware of what he is talking about. Lastly is Pathos, this is when you appeal to one s emotion to get their attention. In this book Postman does a very good job of using all of these devices. Postman was able to incorporate all three of these devices into his book, but the most prominent one in my opinion is, and that helps to best convey Postman s point is Logos. Logos is using logics and facts. Two things you very rarely can fight against. Over and over Postman uses facts on how the media is basically dumbing us down. An example would be ... With the goal of avoiding religious bloodbath, what seemed to be a simple, quick fix solution for state separation posed a series of problems for Pakistan. The problem lay in the fact that there were two completely different nations that were forced to coalesce into one state. This dilemma can be seen with the fundamental differences between West and East Pakistan. Although East Pakistan contained a little over half (54.8%) of the total Pakistani population, it only took up about an eighth (15.1%) of the total land area. However, the disparities between the East and West do not end with land distribution. In both foreign aid and per capita income, West Pakistan dominated their Eastern counterpart. This economic disparity persisted during the ten years of Pakistani independence, and the per capita income actually worsened over a ten year period (between 1950 1960). The offices of the central Pakistani government were all located in the west, and recruitment for civil, military, and administrative positions were predominantly given to West Pakistanis. Ramidus was an omnivore, and while its diet may have included some hard foods, it generally stuck to ripe fruit (White et al., 2009, p. 64, p. 80). Adding further evidence, Ardipithecus does not have sharp, daggerlike upper canines seen in chimpanzees (Gibbons, 2009, p. 1599) Moreover, the muzzle of Ar. Ramidus juts out less than a chimpanzee s does, also likening the hominid to its ancestors (Gibbons, 2009, p. 1599). However, Ardipithecus differentiates significantly from Australopithecus in the types of plants it did eat. Australopithecus has a diet of more than 30% C4 plants while the diet of Ar. Socially, Ardipithicus lacks the delayed canine eruption found in chimpanzees (White et al., 2009, p. 79). • 24. How Does Shakespeare Use Deception In The Glass Menagerie Both William Shakespeare and Tennessee Williams use the theme of deception in King Lear and The Glass Menagerie respectively to illustrate the difficulty of characters in accepting reality either by their own volition or due to the fault of another. Firstly, both plays use deception to show how parental figures like Gloucester and Amanda are unable to see certain truths about their children due to the unconditional love a parent has for their child. In the case of Gloucester, he is deceived by Edmund into believing that Edgar is plotting against him. Gloucester is unable to see through Edmund s deceptions, he says Edmund is no dearer in his account (I.i.19) meaning Gloucester s unconditional love and trust as a parent has blinded him from Edmund s true ambition. Likewise, in The Glass Menagerie, Amanda deceives herself in believing there is nothing at fault with Laura. Tom points this out, saying Laura seems all those things to you and me because she s ours and we love her. We don t even notice that she s crippled anymore. (Williams 47). Unlike Amanda, Tom is not under any illusions about his sister and acknowledges that it is love that allows Tom and Amanda to overlook Laura s shortcomings. Amanda on the other hand has internalized her self deception and from her fundamental misunderstanding about Laura arises her delusions about her future. Another similarity in the way these plays handle thematic deception is its use to escape a horrible reality. In King Lear Edgar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a result, the United States and the world were thrown into a decade of poverty and unemployment. The depression affected all sectors of the economy. Farm owners and agricultural workers suffered from falling crop prices. Businesses failed from a lack of investment support and a decline in the ability of the masses to afford their products. Banks closed their doors as the nation s citizens hoarded their money and defaulted on loan payments. Unemployment and abject poverty enveloped the nation. Herbert Hoover was President ... However, the economy remained troubled, and criticism of the New Deal rose up in the government and in some political circles. A number of Supreme Court Rulings effectively dismantled the primary mechanisms of FDR s plan. Undaunted, and gaining a public mandate with the Democratic successes in the 1934 midterm election, FDR set forth the Second New Deal in 1935. This program reaffirmed the administration s commitment to public support of the nation s troubled people. Great steps were taken in attempts to solve the unemployment problem and stimulate economic recovery. The legislation passed during this period would be the framework of the New Deal throughout the remainder of the decade. The economy showed some signs of recovery but was set back by the 1937 recession. After that, FDR enacted few additional measures to cope with the depression. Finally, economic recovery took place under the war economy of the early 1940s, with levels of poverty and unemployment returned to pre depression levels. The Depression brought marked changes to the political and entertainment culture of the United States. A culture of dissent and disillusionment produced ample political outlets, such as Huey Long s Share Our Wealth program. Dissent and disillusionment sparked by the depression affected popular culture as well. The 1930s were the golden age of radio. Radio shows, most of them comedies and soap operas, ... • 28. Quiet Majority The Worries of a Quiet Majority. (Persuasive Essay Final Draft) As I walk closer to someone I wish to speak to, the feeling of dread increases at the same rate as my approach. I start planning exactly what I want to say, with the knowledge that my words will not come out that way at all. Having reached what is considered the appropriate distance for conversing, I mentally look over my words one more time before sending them along. As my fear mounts I draw a breath, let it out, and proceed to breathe again. I tell myself to stop stalling and as the words rise up, they stop at my throat. I silently yell at myself to get on with it as sweat starts to break out. The words are in my mouth now, but my mouth does not move. I scream, internally, to just say it, say it, SAY IT! I ask my friend if I can get a ride home with them, they say, sure thing . On the outside, I am calm and collected; on the inside, my soul collapses into an exhausted puddle. • 29. When You Are Old By William Butler Yeats When You Are Old is a poem that was written by William Butler Yeats in 1891. It is a poem about a person who wants to be remembered by those he loves. It is a story about dreams forgotten and memories long gone. Yeats captured a feeling of longing in this poem that some people may never understand unless they have a relationship that is more to them than any other relationship they will ever have. When You Are Old talks about a woman who was loved by a man until he died. It is a story of how a life should be remembered by a person who loved another. When You Are Old is about the love of a man for a woman whom he had on a pedestal. He felt this woman was loved by many with a true and deep love and loved by others with a false love. He felt this woman was loved much like people today love celebrities. Yeats wrote about this woman as though he knew her intimately. He asks her to slowly read, and dream of the soft look, Your eyes had once and of their shadows deep (Yeats). He wants her to remember how things were in her youth. He wants her to remember her dreams and think of how things were and how they may have been. Yeats is asking her to take her time and day dream about her glory days. In the first lines of the poem Yeats describes this woman as old and grey and full of sleep (Yeats). The speaker of the poem addresses his beloved saying that when she is aged she should read a particular book which will remind her of her youth. She will remember the ... • 31. Reflection Essay As the first semester of my first year as an undergraduate student has progressed, I have realized how quickly time is passing by. I can easily recall back to the beginning of the semester when it was Frosh week and how nervous and excited I felt as I was about to commence the new chapter in my life that is post secondary. As the mid semester quickly sneaks upon us with another five weeks left, I have found myself to be stumbling from morning to morning and from deadline to deadline. I am mentally and physically exhausted as well as overwhelmed with the amount of work I am required to complete; I am burnt out. At the beginning of the semester I had created several academic goals which would aid in my overall academic success. These goals consisted of organizing and planning out my week in advance, doing the assigned textbook readings for each class as well as avoiding last minute assignments and studying. I believe that each one of my goals are achievable, distinct and will reward me with an increase in my overall academics, however I did not achieve my goals for more than two weeks. As I didn t plan out my schedule I had also lost track of my responsibilities and was unproductive most of the time. As a result, I found myself behind in my readings and was working on assignments as well as studying last minute. Midterm week was perhaps the worst week I have experienced to this day in my academic journey, I had cried more times than I could count and due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. How Political Parties Harm Democracy Roy Young Professor Goodman PSCI 4300 U.S. Congress 11 March 2013 How Political Parties Harm Democracy Political parties exist in a democracy as a way for likeminded individuals to be united over a set of shared beliefs. (Daniel) Political parties allow the members of the party to elect politicians to government positions in order to advance their beliefs. (Hargrave) The political parties offer their members strength in numbers, by uniting large numbers of individuals into a collective group; they can select the best candidates to pursue their interests, as opposed to having thousands of individuals running for office based on a very narrow spectrum of beliefs. (Daniel) While political parties help organize the election process and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ways in which people vote have led to a situation where there are two political parties that dominate the elections. This leads to an inability of the voters to choose the candidates of their likings. The existence of political parties has led to a situation in the United States that is inconsistent with the intentions of a representational style of government that the country was formed on. The existence of these political parties has taken much of the power and ability to control the government away from the citizens. (Hargrave) The United States government is set up in a way that allows the people to elect individuals that they see best fit for serving their needs and desires. This is evident in the House of Representatives. In the House of Representatives, each representative is elected by the people of his district. The citizens of each district vote on the candidate that will best serve their needs once in Washington D.C. (Davidson) Although the representatives are elected based on their promises to their constituencies, they face a great challenge once in office, and that is the political party to which they belong. While serving in the House of Representatives, the individual congressmen that are elected by the citizens of their districts are expected to comply with the beliefs of the political party that they belong to. A bar harshly splits the room while oak tables rot as they pay homage to the solemn victors. Dueling jury boxes frame the edges of the room their panels demarcated by sharp bezels and accompanied by stern lecterns varnished an undistinguished gray. Mirroring benches lay vacant, with the exception of two overwrought neighbors and one anguished woman holding her 6 month old child. A corona of incandescence emphasises the indents separating each weathered stave along the wall. Walking sounds can be heard through the left wall of the courtroom. Mr. Wallace carries an ebony suitcase overflowing with folders and documents. Stanley, guided by the hand of Mr. Wallace, stands shoulder to shoulder with his defence attorney. Seconds later the other side of the room mirrors the men s actions; Blanche, a fragile woman in her thirties, enters the room accompanied by her prosecutor, Ella Stone. Mrs. Stone withers with age as she struggles to cling on to the many folders in hand. Judge Ruth Anthony sits herself center bench, accompanied by Bailiff Scott. • 34. The Letter Apology Of The Stolen Generations By Kevin Rudd The 2008 apology to the Stolen Generations by Kevin Rudd is historically significant for a number of reasons (Creative Spirits, 2014). Some felt it provided closure to a painful and traumatic part of Indigenous history while others fail to see how the apology has in the years after proven to change the circumstances of Indigenous peoples. Impacts in areas such as health, education, economic opportunity and involvement in child protection and/or the criminal justice system are all areas which should have been impacted by the Apology (Creative Spitis, 2014). However; as this essay will explore very little impact has been made in any of these areas in actual fact in some ways the gap has been made wider or perpetuated by acts of government. The Apology was a significant historical event but it is important to explain why it happened before examining the affects it has had on the Indigenous community and wider Australia (Creative Spirits, 2014). The Apology was more then just simply an apology, it acted as a statement of acknowledgement by the Australian Government that previous governments had committed wrongdoings by removing thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their homes and families to be placed with White families and missions (religious camps which taught children white values essentially removing them from all their cultural roots) (Creative Spirits, 2014). According to gordannapier.com, a supernatural aid is defined as help given to the hero from someone who is endowed with abilities beyond the normal. Merlin from Le Morte D Arthur is a supernatural aid who circumlocutory helps the hero by using his abnormal abilities to protect and give advice. Merlyn from from The Once and Future King is also a supernatural aid who uses his anomalistic abilities to protect and give advice, but he directly helps the hero. Lastly, Merlin in Le Morte D Arthur protects Arthur by causing the Archbishop to surround Arthur with knights until he is accepted. The author states, that we let purvey ten knights, men of good fame, and they to keep this sword which shows how Merlin counseled the Archbishop into providing protection for Arthur. Nevertheless, Merlyn in The Once and Future King protects Arthur by removing Arthur and transforming him back before the ants go to war. To further illustrate, The horrible armies were on the point of joining battle, to dispute the imaginary boundary between their glass trays when Merlyn came to be there. As far as protection, Merlin in Le Morte D Arthur provides indirect protection through others; whereas, Merlyn in The Once and Future King provides more direct or hands on advice. Direct protection, in my opinion, is better than indirect protection because it is more reliable, and it goes through less people which lessens the chance of alterations. As with most concepts, its depiction and interpretation are not consistent but rather, are dynamic. In essence they are constantly reconstructed in order to remain relevant to the composer s context, purpose and audience. As such, the treatment of love and identity is shaped by the perspectives of individuals within society in accordance to their contextual values. The spiritual dimension in which Barret Browning s ideal love encompasses is of no value to, if not all, most, of the characters in the strictly secular and consumerist world of The Great Gatsby. This can be seen interpreted as the reason why all of the relationships in the novel were doomed to fail they lacked the spiritual means to achieving an eternal love. None of them ever loved each other for the love s sake This can be seen with Jordan Baker whose character is depicted as a careless and incurably dishonest flapper. With her name bearing two popular car brands, she is pretty much the embodiment of materialistic and hedonistic values of the Jazz age. Virtually, the nature of the love she shares with Nick Carraway remains in the physical realm unlike the persona s of Barrett Browning. This is supported by Carraway s observation, I wasn t actually in love, but I felt a sort of tender curiosity which emphasizes the inherent shallowness of such form of love.
