Defense Against Terrorism
In the years following the September 11th terrorist attacks, homeland security has been at the forefront
of American public policy. According to a January 2015 Pew Research poll, seventy five percent of
Americans believe that protecting the Homeland against terrorism should be the number one priority
for policy makers (Pew Research Center 2015). These sentiments on homeland security are not novel
to Americans. National Security has been of great concern to Americans since World War I (Reid
2015). The government s actions in the last few decades have been reflective of this growing concern
of threats against the United States, domestic and foreign. In this detailed analysis, I will explore the
departments, agencies, and non for profit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The design of the office is intended to support the fluidity of information among the groups who then
report to the Director of National Intelligence who in turn briefs the President of the United States and
other relevant White House officials (Office of the Director of National Intelligence 2015). It is
important to note the role of the Director of National Intelligence because it is instrumental in the way
that intelligence information is disseminated. As enumerated in Section 102 of the Intelligence Reform
and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, the Director is to act as head of the intelligence community
and, act as principal adviser to the President, the National Security Council, and the Homeland
Security Council for intelligence matters related to national security... (One Hundred Eighth Congress

Perhaps one of the most well know agencies in the ODNI is the Central Intelligence Agency. The CIA

The mission of the organization is to gather, analyze and, share foreign intelligence data to the
executive branch and policymakers to aid in the decision making process regarding national security
(Central Intelligence Agency 2015). Another group that has gained notoriety for collecting intelligence
information is the National Security Agency. As

Rocking Infant Poor And Unlucky Travelers By Jonathon Swift
Writing of devouring infant poor and unlucky travelers, Jonathon Swift satirically writes of the
tyranny of England. The 18th century began with a great struggle between Ireland and England. The
world power of England encroached on the rights of the Irish including monitoring their right to their
own parliament and regulating their trade clearly benefitting the English. England had left Ireland
starving and impoverished. Jonathon Swift, an author at the time, wrote several essays intending to
spite the English and call the Irish to action to fight this oppression. The Irish did not respond. Terry
Eagleton and Daniel Coleman s theories prove that in his attempt to move Ireland to action Swift in
actuality pacified their need to rebel again the encroaching English. His literature provided the
humanization to prevent violence, the information to prevent further action, and the vicarious
experiences that fulfilled the peasants for retribution. It will be my pleasure to discuss, as Derrida
would argue, that because Swift s essays can be centered on both sparking and abating an uprising the
structure of the essays have been destroyed and therewith their meaning. Eagleton said, If masses are
not thrown a few novels, they may react by throwing up a few barricades. (Eagleton 45) Eagleton is
speaking here about the start of studying English as a subject, but would not Swift s essays have the
same effect? Eagleton states that there is something humanizing and assuaging about

Technological Advancements In The 1950 s
Technology advancements have had a tremendous impact on American society and culture, since the
dropping of the atomic bomb in 1945. Whether it is political, economical, or scientific, technology has
transformed American culture into what it is today. Through advancements in the 1950 s up until the
2000 s one can see the dramatic alteration each generation has gone through. From tech boom in the
late 1950 s, to the Apollo mission in the late 1960 s, up until the CNN effect, one can see how each
technological advancement has effected American Society, and why the late 1950 s, to early 1960 s
had the most transformative impact on the society we see today. During the baby boom years in the
1950s, Americans were also experiencing a tech boom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In Our Society, There Has Been Several Issues But One Of
In our society, there has been several issues but one of the main concerns is what has been going on in
the African American community. Police Brutality is a major problem that many African Americans
fear dealing with racial divides but some believe minorities cause higher crime rates. In the dictionary
of law, Police brutality, is the use of excessive and/or unnecessary force by police when dealing with
civilians. Many Americans have gone through many situations where they were excessively force by
the police. But few American s were racial profiled, discriminated, or beat brutality for no appointed

After, police brutality incidents it was shown that most of these cases were due to racism. Black
Americans, have an image that is been depicted as thugs, hoodlums, and violent. However, there have
been more than just the Black race causing violence and causing crime. One of the biggest problems is
Blacks being pulled over and being antagonized by police officers. African Americans are above the
average rate of deaths due to police brutality which supports racism in America. In this past year, there
has been shootings that occurred in Dallas and Baton Rouge that were incidents of police brutality.
These types of racial deaths were probably higher researchers say but we many never know because
now the technological world has brought better advancements in the world of crime. As researches
have said that crime or violence in the black community is higher it is shown that it is due to social
class insights. The word sociology stands as a disciplinary insight in which the society in which we
live in contain numerous class levels that separate people by social class. The types of classes start at
high class to lower class. The higher you are ranked in the class shows how much more net worth you
have. The lower class has been said that majority of the African American race falls under this
category. The lower class is known for having bad living conditions and police officers usually assume

Determining If Hess Law Works In A Demonstration Of Four...
Hess Law Lab Report
The purpose of the experiment is to determine if Hess Law works in a laboratory experiment
consisting of four different reactions. During the first reaction, cold water was placed into a
calorimeter and continually mixed with a stir bar. Hot water was then added into the calorimeter while
the probe recorded the temperature readings throughout the reaction. The temperature change was then
used to find the specific heat of the calorimeter. The same process was used in the second, third, and
fourth reactions of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide, ammonium chloride and sodium
hydroxide, and ammonia and hydrochloric acid respectively in order to determine the heats of
reaction.

The Mound Building Peoples Of The Eastern United States
Throughout history there have been ebbs and flows identified within all facets of human history, and
the Native American mound builders were no different. The mound building peoples of the Eastern
United States (U.S.) along with the Aztec s, Mayan and the Inca were revolutionary economists,
farmers and communal architects. Before the Europeans came in contact with the mound building
tribes in the 1500 s, a thriving nation was had developed into an economic powerhouse and maintain
its position of power and commerce for a few hundred years. We would be remiss to not preserve the
archeological remnants of the Adena, Hopewellian and later the Mississippians. Each of the many
built mounds holds unique facts and details to how the nation thrived and developed over several
centuries.
One of the most influential and progressive cultures in North American history was the mound
building Native American tribes. The most significant aspects of the mound building peoples was the
multitude of mounds built for burials, ceremonial and ritual events, temples and other important
buildings, and effigy mounds in the shape of various animals (Colin Calloway, 2012, p. 32).
Archeologists classify mound building Indians of the Southeast into three major chronological/cultural
divisions: the Archaic, the Woodland, and the Mississippian (United States National Park Service,
n.d.). Although Mississippians are known for their mounds; they were also the first fully domesticated

The Internal Combustion Engine
1 Introduction
Since the advent of the internal combustion engine nearly two centuries ago, humans have become
increasingly reliant on fuel to power these engines. Our only method, historically, for obtaining this
fuel is to probe the earth and oceans until crude oil is struck. Crude oil is termed a fossil fuel as it
takes hundreds of millions of years to form. Crude oil is extracted from a geological reservoir and
subsequently refined into the various fuels which we use at ever increasing rates (petroleum, diesel,
aviation fuel etc). Unfortunately we are not finding new oil deposits at anything like the rates we are
consuming, so logically we will eventually run out. Many of the alternate energy sources currently
available (electric engines, fuel cells and ethanol) have low energy density and do not scale well to
larger vehicles like aeroplanes and trucks. Therefore finding new renewable sources of energy to
power our current and future devices is paramount to our continuation as a successful species.

is the transfer of an acyl group from acyl CoA to diacylglycerol, creating

Two Situations on How Calculus Is Used in Daily Life
There are actually two situations on how calculus is used in daily life. One of them is in term of one is
in term of concept, while the other one is in term of practicality. Concepts used of calculus usually
used in daily life of humans but rather they did not aware about it. Practicality is when the calculus is
used to solve a problem in human life but mainly not about every humans life. Concepts used of
calculus. Happen without one notice that they are actually applied it when they do some works. One
example in term of concepts is the application of limit. Limit is needed when finding the closest value
when the value of derivative of x is set to stay within the boundaries when the value is approaching
the value that have been set.[2] Simpler sentence that define limit is that limit help us to find a finite
value in a seemingly infinite journey of precision.[2] For example, you are driving a car in a nice
weather as you approaching a stop sign.[2] Slowly, you begin pressing the brake and the acceleration
of the car decreasing by time as you notice that the speedometer going down and the car is slowing as
well.[2] As closer to the stop sign, definitely you will try to adjust so your speed is falling to make
sure that you will stop at the right spot.[2] You will slowing down to a point that it is very difficult to
see if your speed is still slowing down.[2] Theoretically, you would keep approaching the stop forever
meaning that infinitely if there are no other external

Bruce Knauft and The Gebusi Religion
As anthropologist Bruce Knauft described, the Gebusi clan had words that described many different
aspects, examples included oil the Gebusi word for tomorrow and yesterday and owa for grandparents
and grandchildren, but the most defining one was kogwayay, a catchfall marker to describe all of their
cultural distinction. Because of kogwayay s branching terminology, kogwayay is also the Gebusi s
word for ethnicity, the identification with a cultural group because of shared values customs and
beliefs, while inversely excluded from different groups. One aspect that contributes to the Gebusi s
sense of kogwayay is religion. Through Knauft s book we see their religious ways introduced and
watch them change and adapt with the dynamics of cultural change over time. As defined above,
ethnicity is the shared customs, values and beliefs that the cultural group shares that set them apart
from other groups. The religion described within Knauft s research is applicable to majority of those
elements, making it a vital part of kogwayay. One of the Gebusi s traditions is presented in the suicide
description of chapter three. Dugawe, one of the men of tribe, was found after hanging himself, and in
Gebusi tradition the women massage the body and cover themselves in the bodily fluids oozing from
the decomposing body. While ethnocentrism may come out in a majority of people, this is part of the
Gebusi beliefs and customs that set them apart from certain groups and bring individuals together.

Symbolism In A Clean Well-Lighted Place

A Clean, Well Lighted Place The short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place by Ernest Hemingway is
about an old man who is sitting alone at night in a café. He is deaf and there are two waiters who are
watching him carefully because if he gets too drunk they know he will not pay. While the old man is
having his drink the whole story mainly revolves around the conversation of the older waiter with the
younger waiter. None of the characters are referred by their names they are known as The Old Man,
The Older Waiter, and The Younger Waiter to the readers. The author conveys the idea of light and
darkness symbolized in the characters and the café.

The café is seen as a place where people with despair and problem can go to and forget about it. It
represents the opposite of nothingness it s clean and good lighted whereas nothingness is confusing
and dark. When the older waiter describes the nothingness that he is getting into, he says, It was only
that and light was all it needed and a certain cleanness and order (383). The author doesn t really
explain what he means by it but we can assume it is referring to life meaning that life and man are
nothing but light, cleanness and order can be counted as something. If the café is clean and well
lighted hence in the title, despair can be kept away. Another point the older waiter makes about the
café why it needs these specific elements is because he needs the café to be clean and pleasant. You do
not want music. Certainly you do not want music. (382) The most important thing he needed was light
in the café. Light is very important in the café because light removes the darkness. It is like when
people are scared of darkness and all they are looking for is light. When the older waiter has locked up
and was walking off he describes the awful nothingness of life nada y pues nada y nada y pues nada

Brave New World Vs Affluenza Analysis
Having read Brave New World and Affluenza, I believe that the two authors have distinctly different
views on the idea of reaching enlightenment. While Huxley sees the possibility for philosophical
enlightenment as something only the Alphas, or the elites of the world, can attain, de Graaf believes
that anyone can reach philosophical enlightenment. Furthermore, Huxley argues that the idea of even
attempting to enlighten the masses would be a fruitless endeavor. de Graaf, on the other hand,
encourages his readers to become enlightened and spread the enlightenment to others. In Brave New
World, the false consciousness that characterizes the society is a result of enforced human
conditioning and soma. From the moment a child is conceived, the ... Show more content on

It is achieved by making the personal choice to change your life style. However, the choices that one
makes to reach enlightenment will not be easy. By cutting back on materialistic spending, it becomes
more apparent which goods are necessary and which are not. The false advertising will no longer
create pressure to consume goods that are not necessary. Once people are able to take a step back from
the highly materialistic life, they will have more time to improve themselves and allot time for other
things they enjoy. People will be able to add meaning and fulfillment back into their lives. Escaping
from this false consciousness will create a sense of freedom and such a sense of lightness (Graaf, 380).
The people who reach enlightenment will then be able to spread enlightenment by showing others that
there is happiness in living a life without constantly consuming unnecessary items. In Affluenza, the
enlightened individuals in society do not suffer from the same dilemma as those in Brave New World.
These individuals can coexist with the general public without feeling as if they are isolated or struggle
to fit in. Unlike Huxley, it is apparent that de Graaf believes that once an individual has reached
enlightenment, they should serve as a guide to lead others in society towards

Analysis Of The Film Gibber Eidolon
Greetings from the Abyss. The name s Charles Chadwick, and for the last 7 years I have poured
thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor into my film Gibber Eidolon. The film is shot
entirely on black and white Super8 film, and uses a myriad of techniques. From hand painted film, to
video generation loss, to hand processing, to found footage and traditionally shot sequences.
The title of the film roughly translates to Babbling Ghost. Babbling from fear or shock. The Gibber
Eidolon is a being that is not quite there because it is suffused with terror. Its perspective is of diffused
chaos.
Concretely, the film is a tour of various San Francisco Bay Area graveyards; almost all of them have
residents going back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Also, the film contains live footage of historic
computer technology, both operational and not. Found footage/archival footage in this same vein is
used as well, in addition to appropriated visual material whose subject matter differs...used mainly for
metaphoric illustration. The work contains footage shot over the last 15 years, as well as found
footage acquired over a period of roughly 13 years.
This movie is first and foremost diaristic. It contains my life: the places I ve been and the way I ve
responded to them, and the ideas I ve had along the way. It is a work of spirit.
The film also is a collaboration between myself and my dear friend Matthew Bambas, who I ve been

Foodborne Illness Is A Major Public Health Problem
Foodborne illness, which can also be known as foodborne disease, foodborne infection, or foodborne
intoxication, is a major public health problem. All of the aforementioned refer to an illness developed
after eating contaminated food (Robert Friis, 2012, p279). Almost all factors that can cause a
foodborne illness are environmental. These include naturally occurring heavy metals, polluted water,
and pollutants in the air (Friis, 2012, p279). The agricultural process also holds a large hand in
contributing to foodborne illness, by potentially contaminating food with pesticides and antibiotics
used in animal growth (Friis, 2012, p279). Foodborne illnesses are often inaccurately referred to as
food poisoning.

Foodborne diseases in industrialized nations have seen an increase which can be attributed to
globalization in food distribution, changes in the agricultural and food processing methods, and other
behavioral and social changes occurring among human populations (Friis, 2012, p280). Foodborne
microbes are already present in healthy animals that are raised for human consumption, usually in
their intestines (HHS, 2016b). Contamination can occur during slaughter when edible meat comes into
contact with small amounts of intestinal contents (HHS, 2016b). A hen s ovary may become infected
with some types of salmonella so that the internal matter in an egg that appears to be normal are
contaminated with salmonella before the shell is even formed (HHS, 2016b). Filter feeding shellfish,
especially oysters, can become concentrated with vibrio bacteria that naturally occurs in sea water, or
other microbes that become present in the water from dumped sewage such as norovirus (HHS,
2016b). Other foodborne microbes can be introduced later in the food processing route by infected
people or when raw agricultural products become cross contaminated (HHS, 2016b). Fresh produce is
easily contaminated if the water used to wash it was contaminated with sewage (HHS, 2016b).
Unwashed hands of food handlers can spread shigella bacteria, norovirus, and hepatitis A because they
have been infected prior to handling food (HHS, 2016b). Cross contamination in the kitchen happens

Bioluminescence And The Exploration Of The Deep Sea
Bioluminescence and the Exploration of the Deep Sea Bioluminescence is a topic most people do not
know about. When asked what bioluminescence is, that person probably could not answer the
question. It is actually the chemical process that certain organisms are able to use in order to
synthesize and emit light, but most people just identify these organisms as glowing animals, glowing
plants, and glowing organisms. Most people have seen these glowing animals in action under the sea,
considering that most organisms that use bioluminescence live in the depths of the sea. Today, it seems
normal and typical for an animal in the deep sea to glow, but thousands of years ago, it was all but a
mystery. The idea that natural light could be emitted from a living organism fascinated those
throughout the field of science. When it was first discovered, bioluminescence impacted the way
people thought and it caused them to start to create things that were unimaginable. The exploration
and encounter with bioluminescence impacted the way chemical reactions are studied, changed the
way people interact with the natural world, and it guided scientists to new and improved innovations.
Bioluminescence was briefly discovered in different areas around the world and people have known
about it for thousands of years, but the studies were furthered in the 19th century
(guides.library.harvard.edu). Though it is known that most creatures that emit bioluminescent light
inhabit the deep sea, the

The Importance Of Stereotypes In Literature
Stereotypes run rampant in the literary world today. It is much easier to write a stereotypical character
because of the reader expects them to act or respond a certain way and does not require an explanation
of their motivation. But much like Chimamanda Adichie warns, Show a people as only one thing over
and over again, and that is what they become (Adichie 00:09:25 00:09:37). But this issue is often
addressed in reference to the protagonist. The hero is always white; the hero is always attractive. The
hero never disserves to suffer. Single stories do not just refer to the physical characteristics of the
character, though in can and often does. The heroes all tend to look the same so we associate goodness
with that specific physical description, but motivations can be just as misleading. All the heroes do
good things because they lived the same experiences, so these experiences make someone good. Also
society remains so focused on the single story surrounding the protagonist, it often forgets the other
main component of a story, the antagonist. But by dissecting the possible motivations for the villains,
as my adaption does, I hope to explore the different avenues to villainy and in turn disrupt their single
story. Both nature and nurture can cause a person to do and say the things they do in later life
regardless of whether these things are good or bad. In my adaptation, both Bluebeard and the evil
queen have a corrupted source of nurture. Bluebeard s dad murders a

In the book Harvard design school guide to shopping, Louise Wyman explores the notion of
relationships between humans and commodities through The project of modernity ... the Crystal
Palace (Wyman, L. 2001, p.229). Wyman suggests that the construction of The Crystal Palace in 1851

Both the way in which the building was constructed and the events taking place within the building
support this claim.
Unconventional design concepts and material use that incorporate the use of science, technology and
nature were a key development during this time period. In Hitchcock s words, Paxton s scheme owed
its aesthetic qualities to factors hitherto unrecognised the repetition of units manufactured in series, the
functional lace like patterns of criss cross trusses, the transparent definition of space, the total
elimination of mass and the sense of tensile, almost live, strength as opposed to the solid and
gravitational quality of previous masonry architecture (Mordant Crook 1987, p.107). This suggests
Paxton was challenging traditional architecture of the period, offering a fresh perspective. The ...

Friendship Between George Washington And Marquis De Lafayette
Throughout history, friendships have formed amongst important leaders that in turn propelled history
into greatness. Starting in the Greek and Roman times, Roman Emperor Octavian with best friend and
defense minister Marcus Agrippa worked together to develop Rome into a major global power.
Similarly, the friendship between Meriwether Lewis and William Clark allowed for the exploration
and development of western America as it is formed now ( 10 of History s Greatest Bromances ,
Mandatory.com). Even the friendship between activists Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton
propelled the women s rights movement to equality (Bower, Life123.com). But one friendship that is a
little less known, but seemingly the most important to history, is that between George Washington and
Marquis de Lafayette. This powerful friendship allowed for the successful outcome of the American
Revolution by providing strong leadership and wisdom to American armies. This pair of generals
changed the course of history simply through their bond as friends. Marie Joseph Paul Yves Gilbert du
Motier, or Marquis de Lafayette, was born on September 6th, 1757. Unfortunately, by the age of 12,
Lafayette s entire family had passed away and he was left an orphan but an orphan with a sizeable
inheritance. Following in his father s footsteps, a royal navy general, when Lafayette turned 16 he
joined the Royal Army in France. Two years later he married into the Royal family and therefore made
himself a very

Development of the European Union
What would become the European Union developed out of a need to negate the war making potential
of European powers, namely Germany as well as to foster economic recovery in countries whose
economies were all but destroyed. It was thought that tying the main armaments making resources,
coal and steel, together in a supernational organisation responsible for its management would serve
both roles. It has been developing since 1951 and keeps evolving. What one sees as a transformation
from something similar to a customs union not too unlike Benelux, to a political union and finally a
monetary union, albeit an incomplete one. The fundamental bodies that comprise what is now the
European Union are still for the most part based on the spirit of the Treaties of Rome. The
development of the EU as whole will be explored as well as the bodies that comprise it. How those
bodies have improved as well as any weaknesses that still characterise them will be explained.
As mentioned above what would become the EU began as the European Coal and Steel Community in
1952. With the signing of the Treaty of Paris, the framework was laid for a common administration
amongst European states. With coal and steel being two of the most crucial commodities in the wars
that tore the continent apart in the 20th Century, it seemed a logical place to start. A supernational
authority, known as the High Authority made decisions by which member states would be bound,
decisions which put interests

The Treatment Of Pulmonary Hypertension
Treatments in Pulmonary Hypertension
Brooke Throckmorton
Kettering College
Abstract This paper discusses some of the different medications used in the treatment of pulmonary
hypertension. There are six different articles being used for each the medications, and other basic
information pertaining to pulmonary hypertension. The articles discuss studies performed on the drugs
to demonstrate their effectiveness on pulmonary hypertension. The articles exhibit important
information about how the therapeutic effects of the drugs have different levels of success in varying
patients. A few of the most common medications used in the treatment of pulmonary hypertension
being discussed in this review are: Vasodilators, High Dose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore, the pressure of the blood in the vessels is higher, causing pulmonary hypertension. If blood
cannot filter through the lungs properly, it does not get completely oxygenated. Poorly oxygenated
blood can cause many other issues to the body, so it is important to properly treat pulmonary
hypertension. Many different medications are used in treatment of pulmonary hypertension including:
Vasodilators, Endothelin Receptor Antagonists, Sildenafil, Tadalafil, Prostacyclins, Calcium Channel
Blockers, Anticoagulants, Diuretics, and Oxygen. Due to the fact that the underlying cause of
pulmonary hypertension is unknown, there are many studies on the disease and the drugs used to treat
it (Voelkel, Bogaard, Gomez Arroyo, 2015). This review will discuss the different types of
medications used to treat pulmonary hypertension. Some of the medications are found to be more
effective than others based on the results of many studies that have been performed on animals and
humans. The goal of this review is to successfully compare and contrast these different drugs based off
of the studies performed on them.
Method
For this review, the Kettering College library online database was used to find peer reviewed articles
as references. Beginning on February 22, 2015, the search treatment of pulmonary hypertension was
used to narrow the results for the study. To shorten the results further, the year limit was set from 2005

The Problem Of Global Change
Global change is happening on Earth and is affecting the Polar Regions, especially Greenland. There
are many things that global change is doing; temperatures rising, ice melting, and water levels rising.
Temperature rising affects the ice melting, the heating of the Earth, and the weather. The melting of
the ice affects sea levels rising and affects the temperature rising. Finally, sea level rising affects the
climate and more temperature rising. These issues are and will continue to affect the Earth, badly.
Temperature rising is the main problem for ice melting, which ice melting is a problem for water
levels rising, but what is the main problem for temperature rising? Humans. We have been causing
global change by burning fossil fuels. The article Open Mind commented on the temperatures before
the industrial revolution and after: The world has already warmed 1C (degree Celsius, equal to 1.8
degrees Fahrenheit) above what it was before the industrial revolution...The prevailing view is that
warming by 2C above pre industrial means dangerous climate change, although lately many are
coming to believe that even going 1.5C above pre industrial is dangerous. (Open Mind [updated
2016]). Open Mind also stated that there is a trend, that temperature was rising since 1970 and that the
trend will continue. Upward. (Open Mind [updated 2016]).
Temperatures are also rising in the troposphere, where weather exist. Open Mind states the same
pattern in the troposphere; the red line is

Golda Meir Research Paper
Golda Meir spent her life actively involved in the betterment of the Jewish people, culminating her
impact on Israel as the first, female Prime Minister from 1969 1973. From her beginnings as a young,
Jewish girl living in a political environment where hate against her was encouraged, to her socialist
Zionist background, to her experience of living abroad, back to Israel, Golda Meir passionately fought
for fairness and human rights.
As a young girl Golda Meir was exposed to ideologies and life experiences that impacted her world
view and thus her actions. Her family lived with hatred for the Jews and government sponsored anti
Semitism under the ruling of Tsar Nicholas II in Kiev, Russia. After living in fear and poverty, and at
the age of 8, Meir s family emigrated to the United States of America. Here she experienced the

states surrounding Israel. Meir tried to have peace between Israel s neighboring countries. Israel
became an independent state with Meir s help. After the Declaration of Israel was signed, war began
that caused the part of Palestine promised for an Arab nation to be taken over by Israel, Egypt and
Jordan. The Palestinians fled to refugee camps. Her fight to try to create a new government was long

people blamed her diplomatic style as the cause. Although she was elected in 1973, Golda Meir

with long term damage both physically and mentally. These victims are isolated from society and kept
prisoners, the kind of torture they are often put through is unbearable. In the article, The Lingering
Effects of Torture written by Devin Powell talks about a man by the alias Adeel who was a prisoner
for four years, first at the Bagram Theater Internment Facility in Afghanistan and then at Guantanamo
Bay. Adeel explains how he was kept isolated in a chilled cell, blasted with loud music which
prevented him from falling asleep and being forced to stand motionless in the hot sun for hours. And

McCain stated that If you inflict enough psychical pain on someone they will tell you anything they
think you want to hear . In fact, detainees can also become confused, due to the insufficient amount of
sleep and the trauma they re undergoing. Not to mention the possibility of having the wrong person in
custody. Evidence or clues may often lead to people being wrongfully convicted of a crime they did
not commit. For example, a Brooklyn man named David McCallum was only 16 years old when he
was sent to 25 years to life behind bars for the supposed kidnapping and murder he did not commit.
There was no DNA nor handprints found at the scene of the crime matching McCallum. The DA
Thompson stated, their convictions hinged on untrue confessions, made by teenagers, rife with
inaccuracies and peppered with details seemingly supplied by police (Saul, Josh, and Leonard
Greene). There s no clear data on how many innocent people have been wrongfully convicted. The
Innocence Project, citing multiple studies, estimates from 2 percent to 5 percent of prisoners are
actually innocent. The U.S., which leads the world in the incarceration of its citizens, has
approximately 2 million people behind bars. That means a wrongful conviction rate of 1 percent would
translate to 20,000 people punished for crimes they didn t commit. On death row, 1 in 25 are likely
innocent, according to a recent study (Ferner, Matt.) Equally important,

For me, every project is associated with a drop of water, and only the amalgam of drops can form the
great ocean of good things, that do not require a reward.
One of this drops is debate. I ve started playing debates 3 years ago. Debate games formed in myself
critical and logical thinking. I ve gained ability to analyze constructively on different topics, for
instance: THBT everyone who has attained publicly funded education should work a minimum of 3
years. , Advantages and disadvantages of migration for Moldova , Republic of Moldova can be

Review Of James Fenimore Cooper s The Last Of The Mohicans
Portrayed in the midst of the French and Indian war, The Last of the Mohicans, by James Fenimore
Cooper, focuses on life in the frontier and the violent clashes the French and Native Americans
experience with the English during the French and Indian war. Hawkeye, a white hunter who
identified closely to the Native Americans, becomes entangled in the grotesques battles happening in
the French and Indian war in order to save the lives of two women. Although written seventy five
years past the prime of the events happening in the novel, Cooper implements and manipulates factual
events in history to provide a subtle idea of the conflicts that happened in the French and Indian War.
France and Great Britain went to war during 1754 due to the increased tension of territorial expansion.
It is true that Major General Webb abandoned fort William Henry and appointed Lieutenant Munro
who was unprepared for the anticipated French attack. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The survivors of the Mohican tribe are Uncas and his father Chingachgook. In chapter 33, Uncas dies

leader of the Delaware tribe says, The pale faces are masters of the earth. And the time of the red men

Addiction Caused by a Wounded Soul
Modern society has failed bring the burgeoning problems of addiction under control. The word
addiction was applied to drug use in the 20th century, but now it refers to a wider variety of non drug
hobbies, such as eating, gambling and sex. To treat the devastating flood of addiction problems, it is
important to understand that addiction is not just a physical problem but more of a social and
psychological problem. Dislocation caused by the free market society and the pressure from family
can lead to addiction.

Alexander and Shaler state that at the beginning of the 21st century, for rich and poor people alike,
jobs disappear on short notice, communities are weak and unstable, people routinely change lovers,
families, occupations, coworkers, technical skills, languages, nationalities, therapists, spiritual beliefs,
and ideologies as they navigate the shopping malls, real estate markets and employment agencies. (4)
A free market society is supposed to maximize people s wellbeing, happiness and wealth, but the truth
is people are forced to compete against each other and lose their sense of belonging, meaning and
identity, eventually turning into slaves in a money oriented society. Whether rich or poor, people
become disconnected from their cultural identity and fail to fail to establish their intimate relationships
with friends, communities an co workers. According to Alexander and Shaler, this is when people
cannot achieve a reasonable degree of psychosocial integration (5) and become dislocated from the
society. Dislocation cannot simply be eliminated by food, shelter or the attainment of wealth. The
poverty of spirit leads people to search for a substitute lifestyle to fill the emptiness of fast moving
life. As a result, people turn to substitute lifestyles that can be dangerous and addictive. Bruce and
Shaler argue that today s free market ignore all previously understood limits and have gone too far to
the extreme.

Eudoxus Major Accomplishments
Eudoxus of Cnidus, born in 408 B.C. and died 355 B.C in Cnidus, Asia Minor, was well known for his
multitude of great achievements; both in astronomy and mathematics. However, focusing on his
mathematical accomplishments, Eudoxus has made a significant mark in history due to his numerous
contributions to mathematics. Working along with many famous philosophers and mathematicians
such as Archytas, Philiston, and Plato, Eudoxus was able to broaden his knowledge and thus help lead
modern day mathematicians to a greater comprehension of the universe.

expanding his intellect of the world. One of his first voyages consisted of a journey to Tarentum. ...

began to appear; making it hard to ignore the fact that not all phenomenon is reducible to whole

did not involve numbers. Instead, he studied geometrical objects such as line segments, angles, etc.,

1.1 THE NECESSITY TO MODERNISE THE TRADE LAW
At the time of writing the international trade or to be more precise, international carriage of goods by
sea is governed mainly either by already existing international regimes known as Hague, Hague Visby

International community admits that frequently shipper is the one less powerful contracting party and
absolute freedom of contract would result in unfair and imbalance outcome. It would not be a big
mistake to amount shipper and carrier relationships to the ones of consumer and seller respectively.
Therefore, international instrument is an essential condition to ensure a fair balance between
bargaining parties as well as to encourage the development of international commerce. Moreover, the
cost of diversity in legal regimes end up with years of expensive and complex international litigation
between contracting parties who are established under the different legal regimes. Consequently
prolonged litigation creates a number of obstacles for international trade which respectively impede an
expansion of international trade. Since the international community is well aware of these underlying
issues the work towards global harmonisation was carried constantly. Proceedings have not been
stopped after the success of Hague Rules. Four decades later the amendments to Hague Rules have
been produced and as well as its predecessor, the protocol of Hague Visby Rules been widely
accepted. However, international trade evermore been and still is a rapidly evolving area. Especially
over the last century, maritime trade has experienced a sharp increase in a number of

Explain The Five Points Of Wiccan Beliefs
The Five Points of Wiccan Belief encompass all of the core beliefs which are essential to
learning and practicing. The Five Points of Belief are as follows: The Wiccan Rede, The Law of
Return, The Ethic of Self Responsibility, The Ethic of Constant Improvement, and The Ethic of
Attunement. These belief points are the foundation of the Wiccan culture.
Referring back the first tenet, the Wiccan Rede, as it harm none, do as thou will , it is
comparable to the Golden Rule: do unto others as you do unto yourself. The Wiccan Rede states
that no harm must be taken against someone, especially if one would not wish the same harm on
themselves. Using an introspective view to consider how one would feel if harm or ill will

responsibility for their actions. No otherworldly forces can influence one s will.
The fourth point, the Ethic of Constant Improvement, states you are accepting the

the Ethic of Responsibility, this fourth point creates a unified concept of what is expected and
what is returned. All three of the points aforementioned, create a balance and work together to

  • 2. Defense Against Terrorism In the years following the September 11th terrorist attacks, homeland security has been at the forefront of American public policy. According to a January 2015 Pew Research poll, seventy five percent of Americans believe that protecting the Homeland against terrorism should be the number one priority for policy makers (Pew Research Center 2015). These sentiments on homeland security are not novel to Americans. National Security has been of great concern to Americans since World War I (Reid 2015). The government s actions in the last few decades have been reflective of this growing concern of threats against the United States, domestic and foreign. • 3. Rocking Infant Poor And Unlucky Travelers By Jonathon Swift Writing of devouring infant poor and unlucky travelers, Jonathon Swift satirically writes of the tyranny of England. The 18th century began with a great struggle between Ireland and England. The world power of England encroached on the rights of the Irish including monitoring their right to their own parliament and regulating their trade clearly benefitting the English. England had left Ireland starving and impoverished. Jonathon Swift, an author at the time, wrote several essays intending to spite the English and call the Irish to action to fight this oppression. The Irish did not respond. Terry Eagleton and Daniel Coleman s theories prove that in his attempt to move Ireland to action Swift in actuality pacified their need to rebel again the encroaching English. His literature provided the humanization to prevent violence, the information to prevent further action, and the vicarious experiences that fulfilled the peasants for retribution. It will be my pleasure to discuss, as Derrida would argue, that because Swift s essays can be centered on both sparking and abating an uprising the structure of the essays have been destroyed and therewith their meaning. Eagleton said, If masses are not thrown a few novels, they may react by throwing up a few barricades. (Eagleton 45) Eagleton is speaking here about the start of studying English as a subject, but would not Swift s essays have the same effect? Eagleton states that there is something humanizing and assuaging about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each of the many built mounds holds unique facts and details to how the nation thrived and developed over several centuries. One of the most influential and progressive cultures in North American history was the mound building Native American tribes. The most significant aspects of the mound building peoples was the multitude of mounds built for burials, ceremonial and ritual events, temples and other important buildings, and effigy mounds in the shape of various animals (Colin Calloway, 2012, p. 32). The Internal Combustion Engine 1 Introduction Since the advent of the internal combustion engine nearly two centuries ago, humans have become increasingly reliant on fuel to power these engines. Our only method, historically, for obtaining this fuel is to probe the earth and oceans until crude oil is struck. Crude oil is termed a fossil fuel as it takes hundreds of millions of years to form. Crude oil is extracted from a geological reservoir and subsequently refined into the various fuels which we use at ever increasing rates (petroleum, diesel, aviation fuel etc). Unfortunately we are not finding new oil deposits at anything like the rates we are consuming, so logically we will eventually run out. Many of the alternate energy sources currently available (electric engines, fuel cells and ethanol) have low energy density and do not scale well to larger vehicles like aeroplanes and trucks. Therefore finding new renewable sources of energy to power our current and future devices is paramount to our continuation as a successful species. This project focuses on the prokaryotic enzyme, diacylglycerol acyltransferase 1 DGAT1 (not to be confused with eukaryotic DGA1P a protein which provides the same function but is very different in sequence and structure). This enzyme is encoded by the atf1 gene in Rhodococcus opacus PD630. DGAT is important because it catalyses the final, rate limiting step, in the Kennedy pathway. This step is the transfer of an acyl group from acyl CoA to diacylglycerol, creating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because of kogwayay s branching terminology, kogwayay is also the Gebusi s word for ethnicity, the identification with a cultural group because of shared values customs and beliefs, while inversely excluded from different groups. One aspect that contributes to the Gebusi s sense of kogwayay is religion. Through Knauft s book we see their religious ways introduced and watch them change and adapt with the dynamics of cultural change over time. As defined above, ethnicity is the shared customs, values and beliefs that the cultural group shares that set them apart from other groups. The religion described within Knauft s research is applicable to majority of those elements, making it a vital part of kogwayay. One of the Gebusi s traditions is presented in the suicide description of chapter three. Dugawe, one of the men of tribe, was found after hanging himself, and in Gebusi tradition the women massage the body and cover themselves in the bodily fluids oozing from the decomposing body. He is deaf and there are two waiters who are watching him carefully because if he gets too drunk they know he will not pay. While the old man is having his drink the whole story mainly revolves around the conversation of the older waiter with the younger waiter. The author doesn t really explain what he means by it but we can assume it is referring to life meaning that life and man are nothing but light, cleanness and order can be counted as something. If the café is clean and well lighted hence in the title, despair can be kept away. Another point the older waiter makes about the café why it needs these specific elements is because he needs the café to be clean and pleasant. You do not want music. Certainly you do not want music. While Huxley sees the possibility for philosophical enlightenment as something only the Alphas, or the elites of the world, can attain, de Graaf believes that anyone can reach philosophical enlightenment. Furthermore, Huxley argues that the idea of even attempting to enlighten the masses would be a fruitless endeavor. de Graaf, on the other hand, encourages his readers to become enlightened and spread the enlightenment to others. Once people are able to take a step back from the highly materialistic life, they will have more time to improve themselves and allot time for other things they enjoy. People will be able to add meaning and fulfillment back into their lives. Escaping from this false consciousness will create a sense of freedom and such a sense of lightness (Graaf, 380). When asked what bioluminescence is, that person probably could not answer the question. It is actually the chemical process that certain organisms are able to use in order to synthesize and emit light, but most people just identify these organisms as glowing animals, glowing plants, and glowing organisms. Most people have seen these glowing animals in action under the sea, considering that most organisms that use bioluminescence live in the depths of the sea. Today, it seems normal and typical for an animal in the deep sea to glow, but thousands of years ago, it was all but a mystery. The idea that natural light could be emitted from a living organism fascinated those throughout the field of science. When it was first discovered, bioluminescence impacted the way people thought and it caused them to start to create things that were unimaginable. The exploration and encounter with bioluminescence impacted the way chemical reactions are studied, changed the way people interact with the natural world, and it guided scientists to new and improved innovations. But much like Chimamanda Adichie warns, Show a people as only one thing over and over again, and that is what they become (Adichie 00:09:25 00:09:37). But this issue is often addressed in reference to the protagonist. The hero is always white; the hero is always attractive. The hero never disserves to suffer. Single stories do not just refer to the physical characteristics of the character, though in can and often does. The heroes all tend to look the same so we associate goodness with that specific physical description, but motivations can be just as misleading. All the heroes do good things because they lived the same experiences, so these experiences make someone good. Also society remains so focused on the single story surrounding the protagonist, it often forgets the other main component of a story, the antagonist. But by dissecting the possible motivations for the villains, as my adaption does, I hope to explore the different avenues to villainy and in turn disrupt their single story. Wyman suggests that the construction of The Crystal Palace in 1851 begun to break down the strict relationship between commodities, such as clothing, and social class. Unconventional design concepts and material use that incorporate the use of science, technology and nature were a key development during this time period. Alexander and Shaler state that at the beginning of the 21st century, for rich and poor people alike, jobs disappear on short notice, communities are weak and unstable, people routinely change lovers, families, occupations, coworkers, technical skills, languages, nationalities, therapists, spiritual beliefs, and ideologies as they navigate the shopping malls, real estate markets and employment agencies. (4) A free market society is supposed to maximize people s wellbeing, happiness and wealth, but the truth is people are forced to compete against each other and lose their sense of belonging, meaning and identity, eventually turning into slaves in a money oriented society. Whether rich or poor, people become disconnected from their cultural identity and fail to fail to establish their intimate relationships with friends, communities an co workers. According to Alexander and Shaler, this is when people cannot achieve a reasonable degree of psychosocial integration (5) and become dislocated from the society. Dislocation cannot simply be eliminated by food, shelter or the attainment of wealth. The poverty of spirit leads people to search for a substitute lifestyle to fill the emptiness of fast moving life. As a result, people turn to substitute lifestyles that can be dangerous and addictive. Bruce and Shaler argue that today s free market ignore all previously understood limits and have gone too far to the extreme. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eudoxus Major Accomplishments Eudoxus of Cnidus, born in 408 B.C. and died 355 B.C in Cnidus, Asia Minor, was well known for his multitude of great achievements; both in astronomy and mathematics. However, focusing on his mathematical accomplishments, Eudoxus has made a significant mark in history due to his numerous contributions to mathematics. Working along with many famous philosophers and mathematicians such as Archytas, Philiston, and Plato, Eudoxus was able to broaden his knowledge and thus help lead modern day mathematicians to a greater comprehension of the universe. Eudoxus, son of Aeschines, as a young man traveled throughout Greece and Egypt with the hopes of expanding his intellect of the world. One of his first voyages consisted of a journey to Tarentum. ... Eudoxus, Avoided a Fundamental Conflict) In that Hippasus discoveries contradicted the Pythagoreans conjecture, they murdered him. As time continued, more and more irrational numbers began to appear; making it hard to ignore the fact that not all phenomenon is reducible to whole numbers or their ratios. For this reason, the Greeks quickly realized that a solution to irrational numbers was imperative. Fortunately, Eudoxus was able to present a new theory of proportions which did not involve numbers. Instead, he studied geometrical objects such as line segments, angles, etc., whiling avoiding giving numerical values to lengths of line segments, sizes of angles, and other magnitudes. (Lecture 8. Eudoxus, Avoided a Fundamental Conflict) By using geometry to evade irrational numbers, a mathematical crisis had been covered. Although Greeks could not tolerate irrational numbers, they accepted irrational geometric quantities such as the diagonal of the unit square (Lecture 8. International community admits that frequently shipper is the one less powerful contracting party and absolute freedom of contract would result in unfair and imbalance outcome. It would not be a big mistake to amount shipper and carrier relationships to the ones of consumer and seller respectively. Therefore, international instrument is an essential condition to ensure a fair balance between bargaining parties as well as to encourage the development of international commerce. Moreover, the cost of diversity in legal regimes end up with years of expensive and complex international litigation between contracting parties who are established under the different legal regimes. Consequently prolonged litigation creates a number of obstacles for international trade which respectively impede an expansion of international trade. Since the international community is well aware of these underlying issues the work towards global harmonisation was carried constantly. Proceedings have not been stopped after the success of Hague Rules. Four decades later the amendments to Hague Rules have been produced and as well as its predecessor, the protocol of Hague Visby Rules been widely accepted. The Five Points of Belief are as follows: The Wiccan Rede, The Law of Return, The Ethic of Self Responsibility, The Ethic of Constant Improvement, and The Ethic of Attunement. These belief points are the foundation of the Wiccan culture. Referring back the first tenet, the Wiccan Rede, as it harm none, do as thou will , it is comparable to the Golden Rule: do unto others as you do unto yourself. The Wiccan Rede states that no harm must be taken against someone, especially if one would not wish the same harm on themselves. If one promotes evil, evil will then be returned in favor. The third point, the Ethic of Self Responsibility, which states that one is responsible for their actions. Instead of simply placing blame on other forces, one assumes responsibility for their actions. No otherworldly forces can influence one s will. The fourth point, the Ethic of Constant Improvement, states you are accepting the karma or stuff you give yourself, good or bad.
