The Library Of Alexandria Campus Library
The main goal of libraries, are to teach students how to make use of the resources. The library of
NVCC dedicates itself into helping students at the Alexandria campus. That is why it provides a wide
range of sources that aids its students. Whether it is for a class, a job, or a research, the library has the
materials they need to execute their work. In the words of Robert Putnam, a political scientist who
teaches at Harvard University, he said that People may go to the library looking mainly for
information, but they find each other there. To clarify what is said, people may use the library for
information; but due to the materials that they found in their research, they realize that if they made
use of the library for their previous works, they would have met the requirements that were needed.
The argument presented on this paper, is that the Alexandria campus library has a great effect on
students in terms of helping them meet their academic goals. Although, there are some modifications it
needs to make it better and more user friendly. One thing the NOVA library does, is that it gives
students a connection to a greater academic community. There are fifty computers provided in the
library for students to execute their work. Students can come in at anytime and make use of them. The
staff at the library consists of twelve people, that are working to make a positive effect on those
students who are making use of the library. Four of those people are faculty member,

Case Study Of Starbucks Success In Australia
Introduction Starbucks finally failed in Australia. The company closed almost all of its 84 Australian
stores in the year of 2013. The brand made several mistakes that contributed to the declined business
in Australia. Starbucks entered the market in 2000. At that point, McCafe and Gloria Jean s were
already established there. The thing is, Starbucks stores were also opened in low traffic areas and were
charged more money than the other competitors. Although the disappointing sales in Australia didn t
set back Starbucks that much. But we still should learn something from it. The company has reported
that 2 main factors had hold their business back: the worsening economic conditions in the US and
some poor real estate decisions, these plagued the company at that moment. Others have suggested
that the increased competition from the likes of McDonald s has contributed to the decline. But surely
there is more to it than that.
Findings The company successfully brought café culture to Americans for the first time and
introduced people, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surely people were aware that the beverages at Starbucks were more expensive than at many cafés but
they still frequented the outlets, as it was a place to see and be seen . Here s a map showing countries
with Starbucks The brand has more than 23,000 locations worldwide. About 5,500 of those are outside
the U.S. But in a space of a month, coffee chain Starbucks went from ubiquity to near obscurity in
Australia. Its decline meant significant losses for the company and put 700 staff out of work. Analysis
of what went wrong, shows that the company with ambitions for global domination made fundamental
mistakes such as trying to be all things to all people and charging a premium for a product that did not
meet customer expectations. So how did Starbucks fail in Australia? Here s some of my

Oralism In The Early 20th Century
In France, the United States, and some other countries, instruction and communication were carried
out in various sign languages, while in Britain, Germany, and elsewhere in northern Europe oralism
(speech and lipreading) dominated. These schools graduates formed local and national deaf
communities. For example, deaf Swedes founded the Stockholm Deaf Club in 1868. In the mid 19th
century school alumni in the United States, who communicated in the American Sign Language (ASL)
they had developed, established newspapers, churches, and social clubs. During the late 19th and early
20th centuries an aggressive oralist movement challenged sign languages everywhere. Resisting
oralism, the American deaf community formed state political associations and, in 1880, founded the
National Association of the Deaf. Deaf advocates fought the revamping of education and defended
ASL.

Satan As A Tragic Hero Essay
DeRosas 1
Sundi M. DeRosas
Professor Julie Roth
ENGL.2322.W31C
6 December, 2015 Satan as a tragic hero
In the poem of ?Paradise Lost? written by John Milton, Satan is thought of as a tragic hero because he
is perceived as a strong leader to the fallen angels and has tremendous importance. He struggles to
overcome his apprehensions and choses to dedicate him to evil. He lacks strength to accomplish his
goal of corrupting mankind. Satan becomes unable to judge God?s grace and is not able to find a way
of making his past right. Therefore, he is punished by being condemned to eternal Hell. In the
beginning of ?Paradise Lost?, Milton draws the reader to Satan by his very seductive ways and lures
them to believe he is an innocent victim by his cunning character. The reader sees Satan as having
attributes of a hero because we see him through his eyes. His evil is brought to human level and one
may feel compelled to understand him. We begin to sympathize with him against our will and realize
just how seductive evil really is and not to succumb to it. Satan shares his pain and alienation as he
reaches Earth. The reader can identify with him and therefore feels sympathetic towards him. Many
tragic heroes begin their journey because of self assurance and pride and are not prosperous in the end.
Satan obtains a struggle within him and questions God?s relationship with the angels in Heaven and
doesn?t believe God should be above everyone else. He has many

Ambiguous Concepts Of Insolvency Between Temporary Lack Of...
1. Ambiguous concepts of insolvency between temporary lack of liquidity
S588G impose a duty on directors stop a company trading while it is insolvent or would become
insolvent. The provision requires directors take any reasonable steps to prevent incurring debts and
maintain the maximum abilities to pay the present creditors or protect future creditors. The ultimately
objective is to protect the creditors. According to S588G, as long as the directors suspect that the
company is insolvent or would become insolvent and fail to prevent a company from insolvent
trading, he or she would potentially personal liable for all the debts incurred since insolvency.
Under S95A, A company is insolvent if it is unable to pay all its debts when they become due for
payment (Hanrahan, 2015). It is difficult for directors to figure out whether the company is temporary
lack of liquidity or insolvent. Furthermore, the uncertain local and global economic conditions would
make them feel hesitant about whether the decision they make will save the company not. This
provision put significantly personal liabilities on directors shoulder. Directors special without
company share directors would rather to simply give up saving the company by winding up or
appointing an administrator than put their personal wealth on risk even though there is a chance to
rescue it.
One of the objective of appointing an voluntary administration is to put a company into a temporary

The Legacy Of President Abraham Lincoln
President Abraham Lincoln was the leader of the United States for five years, yet he is often only
remembered for leading the Union to victory in the Civil War and freeing the slaves in the process.
These accomplishments go together and it is easy to assume part of, if not the entire reason for war
was to end slavery. He is credited with freeing the slaves because of his emancipation proclamation.
This eventually brings and end to the institution, but should we really credit this all to Lincoln? Was
Lincoln the only one to recognize the moral issues with slavery and destroy it with one single blow?
African Americans are overlooked when talking about their emancipation but they were some of the
strongest advocates for the end to slavery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He continues by pleading, ...You, white fellow citizens, constitute a very large majority of the voters ...
Therefore, we appeal to you to stand by us, and see that we are not unjustly punished (McPherson, p.
16). Massachusetts representatives opposed the compromise in Washington which proved the
importance the free northern blacks in attaining freedom for all African Americans. After these failed
attempts at compromise, war ensues. In the early stages of the war many blacks ran across battle lines
to the north attempting to escape bondage. Under the fugitive slave law, they were returned back to
their owners. This begins to change after prominent free back leaders like Fredrick Douglass chastise
the government for avoiding slavery as the central war issue. He exclaims, Why? Oh! Why, in the
name of all that is national, does our Government allow its enemies this powerful advantage? ... The
very stomach of the rebellion is the negro in the condition of a slave... The negro is the key of the
situation the pivot upon which the whole rebellion turns... (McPherson, p. 39). He explains that not
only is slavery is a moral issue that the war should be fought for, but he brings policy maker s
attentions to the fact that the south s rebellion relies on slavery and without it would crumble.
Douglass not only attacked the issue of slavery from the legislative side but also from a grassroots

Language And Culture In Ken Wiwa s Get Beyond Babel
Ken Wiwa presents several ideas pertaining to language and culture within his essay, Get Beyond
Babel. Wiwa explains that every language has a chance of dying out over time. For any language to
survive through years of societal changes, it must be adapted so it can be used to embrace other
cultures, new technology and new perspectives. Wiwa presents the concept that language is the same
as culture. I do not agree with this concept because I believe that culture is carried by the people, not
by the language.
Wiwa uses the idea that languages never die if they are always taking concepts from other languages.
My parents mother tongue is a prime example of countering the statement. My parents were both born
in Sri Lanka and spoke Tamil as they grew up, which is a language that has been around for over 2000
years. It is a language that was primarily used in South Asia, but has grown. The language of Tamil
did not always have to adopt terms from other languages to expand. Over 100 million people today
continue to speak the language. As a language, Anglo Saxon, or Old English, was very different from
modern English, similarly to Tamil. However, Tamil is a language that has been able to thrive on its
own. Tamil counters Wiwa s idea that languages absorb other dialects to survive. In fact, in South
Asia, it is the other way around and dialects in Sri Lanka must adopt the Tamil language to stay
relevant. The language of Tamil did not become extinct or endangered because of the

Compare And Contrast Persia And Greece
I chose to use legalism for my vocabulary word from this chapter. Legalism is the political philosophy
which advocates for clear rules and harsh punishments when those rules are broken. This is all used as
a means of enforcing the authority of the state. Persia and Greek city states were entirely different in
certain areas of their happenings. Both of these city states were made up of Indo European people
whose legacy came directly from the first civilizations. Even though they were similar in their
population makeup they were very different when it came to the everyday happenings in the cities.
Persia was a much more sophisticated city than that of Greece. Persia had many luxuries like a
standard coinage, standard taxes, canal linking the Nile and Red Sea, ... Show more content on

Greece on the other hand was much smaller with a fraction of the Persian population with around 2 3
million people. Greece was made up of hundreds of small city states and small settlements while
Persia was one absolute monarchy. One way Persia became so powerful was with their rich agriculture
while Greece destroyed all of their own rich farmland by causing deforestation and soil erosion. One
of the biggest differences between these two states and the one I believe is the most significant was
their approach to politics. Persia was controlled by the king and said king was in charge of all politics.
Greece was one of the first places to use a system of government where the people managed the affairs
and what went on in politics. I believe that this is significant because they both took a completely
different approach to

Treadwell s Relationship With Animals In Literature
Human beings have always looked for similarities between themselves and other people as to gain
common ground. However people also attempt to make connections between themselves and the more
primal parts of nature. Animals have been along side people for centuries and them being by our side
we ve assigned them certain traits and meanings as an attempt to connect with them on a deeper level.
The Egyptians treated felines as almost gods in their culture because, after domestication, they killed
vermin which helped crops grow. That praise evolved into worship, and gave felines new meaning
among human beings. In many ways humans change animals to suit their purposes in literature and as
to allow us to more finely tune our imagination to the lives of animals. Human beings don t have any
idea what it s like anymore to be one with their natural surroundings which is why we focus so
intently on relating to the lives of animals. The more we try to become kindred with animals, the more
definitive the relationship between humans and animals becomes. Our relationship is almost anything
we decide it to be on our end of it, but as for the animals they seem to fairly indifferent. We can say
whatever we want to say about our own relationships with animals, but they re not going to ignore
their own primal instincts no matter what we say. This is demonstrated through Timothy Treadwell s
experience with the grizzly bears in Alaska. Treadwell truely believed to be a kindred spirit with the

1. Executive Summary
The purpose of this report is to provide a strategic analysis of Woolworths in its Australian retailing
and grocery industry. There are some external factors can be affected to Woolworths strategy. To be
analyzed how these factors impact to Woolworths strategies we would use Porter forces five models as
a framework for analysis. They are threats of new entrants and substitute products, rivalry among
competing established competitors, threat of substitutes and bargaining power of Woolworths
suppliers and customers.
This report also provides the company situation analysis which will be analyzed the internal
environments of Woolworths. In this analysis, we will use SWOT analysis which includes the

There are some reasons can be explained for this reason. Firstly, Woolworths have a high market share
in the industry. In addition, its business size is very big which includes Australian overall market and
some other foreign markets. A lot of selling stores around Australia are good example. Moreover, the
expensive start up costs are another barrier for new competitors. Finally, the high annual profit of
Woolworths is hard for others to enter the retail and grocery industry in Australia.
3.2 Rivalry among established companies
The Australian retail and grocery industry has a high level of concentration ratio because the available
of some major competitors competing in the industry such as Woolworths Ltd, Myer or Coles
(Beaumont, 2004). It means Woolworths have a high concentration of market share in the Australian
retail and grocery industry. In addition, the intensity of those strong competitors is boosting
Woolworths Ltd have been continuously creating a competitive advantage. Using effective strategy
such as low price, selling fresh food, and 24 hour delivery service, Woolworths Ltd and its
subsidiaries such as Safeway, Dicksmith and so on are continuously competing with other rivals for a
strong position in the industry (Porter, 1979).
3.3 Bargaining powers of buyers
Woolworth s customers have a highly powerful bargaining power. The reason is most of Woolworths
selling goods are from individual customers. They can

Components Of The Worm Drive Gearbox
2.0 Component Analysis The worm drive gearbox is comprised of a worm screw running off the input
shaft and engaging the worm wheel perpendicularly1. Bonfiglioli states in their quality standards that
they are committed to supplying effective products and go on to say they will never compromise on
safety, compliance or quality2. As a business, it is in their best interests to do so as cost effectively as
possible; keeping both these points in mind will help to analyse the various parts of the gearbox and
assess possible materials used, as well as manufacturing processes performed. 2.1 Worm shaft 2.1.1
Function The input shaft has a keyway cut which enables the motor to rotate the worm; this in turn
results in the worm wheel rotating due to contact between the worm thread and the teeth of the worm
wheel3. In order for the gearbox to continuously perform this function smoothly and efficiently over
time it is important that the worm shaft s material is carefully considered to avoid the three principle
factors that will influence performance1. 2.1.2 Materials With the worm screw being in constant
contact with the worm wheel, there has to be consideration of wear due to friction when selecting the
material. In order to avoid amounts of wear that will be detrimental to performance, the shaft s
material must have a high surface hardness1. It s important that this is achieved without the hardening
of the entire thread because this will result in the material becoming more brittle. A

There is no noise level while listening. My interpretation of White Rabbit is that the narrator discusses
how drugs can be used in defiance to escape authority. As mentioned above, White Rabbit is
influenced by Lewis Carroll s Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the Looking Glass.
The first verse argues that the world is in color, but that people in authority sometimes tries to enforce
that the world is either black or white. Since the general public out numbers those in authority, they
can lead a protest that can change the ways of society and the law. When the protesters gain their
victory, they can feel like their ten feet tall.

Political Parties And Democratic Parties
The political party is an organization of people who share similar ideas about the way the country
should be governed. Political parties perform important tasks in government. In fact, political parties
select candidates and check the other party. Political parties also inform the public. Most importantly,
they organize the government (Political Parties, n.d.). The history of U.S political parties begins with
the Federalists and their opponents the Anti Federalists who became the Democratic Republicans. Two
major political parties in the United States today, however, are Democrats and Republicans. The U.S is
one of the very few countries with only two dominant parties and there is so much attention focused
on only two parties in the United State. Why Only Two Parties (n.d) explained that the two party
system in the U.S is largely due to what is called plurality voting in single member districts, also
means, winner takes all voting system. In addition, the two parties, Democrats and Republicans, have
essentially crowded out the other minor parties. It makes extremely difficult for someone from one of
those parties to become elected (Ch. 7). These two parties, the Democrats and Republicans, survived
through the decades and they have contrasting beliefs that distinguish them from one another.
Firstly, of the two current major political parties, the one with oldest roots is the Democratic Party.

The Importance Of Violent Video Games
Not only does gaming take up a significant amount of time, but research show[s] that playing violent
video games can increase a person s aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in laboratory
settings and in daily life (American Psychological Association). Aggressive behavior hurts
relationships by making it hard to get along. Yet, often the question arises whether it is aggressive
people or children who are drawn to video games rather than video games causing them to become
aggressive. Studies have been done to answer this question. One study found that compared with a
group who had played a nonviolent video game, those who had been engaged in Mortal Kombat were
more aggressive across the board. They gave their fellow students significantly bigger portions of the
hot sauce (Carey). Examples of increased aggressive behaviors climax when events such as real life
attacks and shootings happen and can be attributed to video games. Now I wouldn t say video games
are the only factor in events like these but it s hard to imagine they play no significant role either. Take
the following drastic event as an example:
Two men accused of running down Jerry Steinberg with a car, then beating and kicking him into a
coma, . . . had spent part of the previous night drinking beer and playing Grand Theft Auto III . . .
After attacking Steinberg, they played the video game again, police were told. Meanwhile, about five

Japan Yen

Abstract
This Case study provides an insight to the fluctuations experienced in the currency of Japan, Yen from
the late 1990 s to recent years. Japan follows the floating currency monetary policy due to which there
is no measures taken on to control the fluctuations. Japan experienced magnificent growth through the
60 s, 70 s, and 80 s leading into the 90 s beginning. In the late 1990 s, Japan s economy marked its
growth significantly slower, which had then come to be known as the lost decade due to Japanese

For the following issues the Bank of Japan (BoJ) responded by embarking on Quantitative Easing
(QE) in the early 2000 s which did little to quell the deflation and Yen Strength that had plagued the
nation entirely.
The major problem for the export heavy nation became the strength of the Yen. When the exporters
saw a more expensive Yen, they faced more difficulty to compete with domestic manufacturers in
other nations. Also, due to extremely low rates of interest in Japan, it experienced massive outflows of
capital from retirees and investors looking for yield in other economies such as United States, Europe
and Australia.
Subsequently, the Japanese economy maintained a long lasting recovery beginning in early 2002.
However, the path has not always been smooth, given two soft patches (temporary softening in the
market) and weakness in some parts of the economy.
Japan commenced on a multi pronged approach by June 2012 in an urge to end the multi decade slide
that was seen in growth numbers for its economy. This approach was initiated by Shinzo Abe during
his campaign for Prime Minister, once installed as the political leader of Japan s economy with Hiroki

inculcate inflation consequently inflation back to the nation.

Challenges Chinese Immigrants Faced
Challenges Japanese and Korean Immigrants as well as Chinese Immigrants Faced in America The
United States experienced major waves of immigration during the nineteenth and twentieth century.
Many immigrants came to America seeking greater economic opportunity. However, the Japanese and
Korean immigrants, as well as the Chinese immigrants faced a great amount of racism while making
their way in America. For the Japanese and Korean immigrants, they faced challenges including:
segregated schools, the Gentlemen s Agreement, and the California Alien Land Law. On the other
hand, the Chinese immigrants faced challenges as well, including: the 1875 Page Act, unfair treatment
while working on the railroad, and The Chinese Exclusion Act. However, these ... Show more content

Both groups of immigrants had one goal in mind while in America. This goal was to seek money, live
a better life style, and return to their homeland being able to provide for their families. They faced
many hardships back home and they were determined to do what it would take to make a change for
themselves. However, these immigrants did not expect the unfair treatment that came along with the
work they set out to do in America. Japanese laborers were at first recruited to work on the sugar
plantations of the independent monarchy of Hawaii. Some of them left Japan in 1868 on a three year
contract. These men faced brutal working conditions and low wages which led most of them to return
to Japan. On the other hand, as mentioned earlier, the Chinese faced brutal working conditions as well,
while working on the railroad. The first Chinese were hired in 1865 at approximately $28 per month
to do very dangerous work. They lived simply and cooked their own meals, consisting of fish, dried
oysters and fruit, mushrooms and seaweed. Work in the beginning was slow and difficult. Many risked
their lives working in these conditions. The working conditions were harsh for these groups of
immigrants and they faced discrimination throughout their work.

Six Single Mother Myths Busted by Online Dating Essay
6 Single Mother Myths Busted by Online Dating
Dating as a single mother is fraught with lots of potential hazard and stigma. Before online dating has
become a craze, single moms who are hoping to find another chance at happy ever after usually do not
get too much luck.
The stigma that comes along with being a single mother drives real men away and makes it ultra
impossible for single moms to get another shot at happiness. Only until the dawn of online dating did
these single moms stumble upon real and ever lasting love.
Online dating has not only become a fad. It has become a tool for real men to get to know their dates
without having to go through all the trouble, yet guaranteeing that they would soon sit at the dinner
table with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is worth knowing that real men consider online dating because they, too, are longing for someone to
genuinely care for them.
Being a single mother gives off the idea that men just will never be in the top of their priorities,
especially when there are children always groping for their mother s attention, not to mention the job,
the kitchen sink, the stopped up toilet, etc.
There are way too many rivals to compete against and discerning men would not go for any woman
who can only promise her second best attention and affection.
3. Single mothers are just never available.
A single mother s schedule is never open. They are the kind to cancel dates at the last minute. How
can you have a relationship with someone who cannot even be there? In order to make sure you of that
rare shot to be loved again, single women need to invest time and effort.
Most men are put off by the lack of time being returned to them by single mothers and this becomes
bomb ticker. With the advent of online dating, single mothers are able to commit their time to a man
they really think finally deserves them. Single mothers have never been more available.
4. Single mothers are emotionally unavailable.
Single mothers usually have their primary focus on her children. This is a negative thing for men who
are unable to see beyond the naked eye. While some men are turned off by the single mom s
unconditional attention to her children, real men see this as a plus, a positive character instead of a

Leni Riefenstahl
Research Assessment on a Personality in the Twentieth Century: Leni Riefenstahl a) Describe the
major influences that led to the rise to prominence of your chosen personality in her nation s history.
The major influences that led to Leni Riefenstahl s rise to prominence includes a fateful event that
kindles her fascination with film, the continual influence of mountain (Berg) films and acclaimed
director Dr Arnold Fanck as well as her first début as a director and producer.
In 1925 Leni Riefenstahl injured her knee whilst dancing in Prague which threatened to end her

As the film opened in Germany and around the world it became obvious that Riefenstahl had achieved
overall success, beyond all expectations. In America, specifically New York it was called flawless and
a highly fascinating fantasy . The Blue Light was even awarded a silver medal at the first Venice
Biennale that year. Riefenstahl still saw herself primarily as an actress, but after her new found
success, expected to continue filmmaking as a career. If The Blue Light had not influenced her career
path she would not have reached her prominence with her films such as Triumph of the Will and
Olympia to come. Riefenstahl did not only gain wider international fame, she also gained the
admiration and support of Adolf Hitler. According to Audrey Salkeld, Hitler was already an admirer of
hers, having been won over by her first dance of fluttering veils in her first movie.......From then on,
he had followed her career with interest, The Blue Light in particular catching his imagination. Indeed
the success of The Blue Light was one of the determining influences on Riefenstahl s rise to
prominence as she states, This film was pivotal in my life, not so much because it was my first
successful effort as a producer and director, but because Hitler was so fascinated by this film that he
insisted I make a documentary about the Party rally in Nuremberg. The result was Triumph of

Islamic Financial System And Islamic Institutions
INTRODUCTION An Islamic Financial system could be simply defined as a financial system that is
based on the principles and values of Islam which mops up riba and guarantees a profit sharing
mechanism. Islamic Financial system has developed over past decades as an indication of Islamic
Worldwide view represented by the Shari ah. The profound basis of Islamic financial system surpasses
the interaction of factors of production and the behaviour of the economy. (Iqbal 1997) Shari ah is the
foundation on which Islamic finance is built. The mainstay of the Islamic Financial system is the
linkage between economic activities in the Islamic financial system and the real sector. The constancy
of currency is furthered in an Islamic financial system because money is not regarded as a commodity.
Islamic finance is equity based, asset backed, ethical, sustainable, environmentally and socially
responsible finance. It promotes risk sharing, connects the financial sector with the real economy, and
emphasizes financial inclusion and social welfare . (World Bank) Islamic financial system advocates
the highest level of governance and transparency because it is guided by principles of the Shari ah.
Generally, in any economy, financial systems (conventional and Islamic) exist in order to raise funds
and channel these funds into productive financial and economic activities. Thus, financial systems also
perform the function of mobilising surplus funds from economic agents and institutions and

Super Size Me Argument
Thesis and supporting argument of the film: The main point of Super Size Me is that McDonald s
product causes overweight and obesity in the United States. The film makes the case for this thesis by
showing that McDonald s sale strategy is inducing customers to eat more than they need. First,
McDonald s always encourages customer spend a little more to upgrade the meal size. By knowing
customer psychology which is getting the best deal in comparative pricing, McDonald is welling to
earn a little more from each customer. The company clearly is profit orientated, and this is not a huge
problem unless its products have harmful side effect. According to Dir. Morgan Spurlock s
experiment, McDonald s product has excessive cholesterol, fat, and sugar ... Show more content on

The film provides facts, experiment, and lots of experts opinions. First, it gives out the fact that
America is the fattest nation in the world. Over 100 million Americans are overweight or obsess. 60%
of all US adults are overweight or obsess. (Dir. Morgan Spurlock, 2008) It shows that the problem is
real and it should be an issue that everyone pay attention to. According to Eric Schlosser, American
Journalist, there is one in fourteen American having meal in McDonald and nine in ten children having
McDonald once a month. By this shocking fact, the film director started his own experiment with 30
days McDonald s meal. Though a normal person may not do this in real life, the experiment is
convincing that McDonald s product have harmful effect over human health in long tern. On the other
side, some free market supporter might think the McDonald s product already passed government s
food regulation, such as FDA, and this should indicate the food safety is within the standard. They
believe in the idea of free market, the business is good to operate as long as they follow the laws and
rules. However, I believe when a company has too much impact over people, it should have more
responsibility or liability over its business. Like Hollywood movies, MTV and blue jeans, fast food
has become one of America s major cultural exports. (Eric Schlosser, Charlie Wilson, 2008) In fact,

What Is The Theme Of The Kiss By Kate Chopin
The Kiss
The Kiss is Kate Chopin s short story about a woman scheming to marry a wealthy man. The story
was written on September 19, 1894, and first published in Vogue on January 17, 1895. The contents of
the story are as follows.
The outside was still light, but the curtains were covered inside and the light smoke from the fireplace
emitted a dim, strange light on the room, leaving dark shadows. Brantain was sitting in one of these
shadows, and he was clenched and uncomfortable. Thanks to the darkness, he could comfortably
direct his love filled gaze to the girl sitting in the fireplace. The girl was so beautiful, she had a
beautiful skin color for healthy brunette girls, and she seemed very calm as she stroked the silky
feather of the cat in her lap. And occasionally, he looked glanced at his friend in the shadows. They
were talking about different things, not what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same way, he described the room as full of deep shadows , reflecting the relationship of Chopin
Brantain and Nathalie, not all as they seem (at least for Nathalie). Something that is clear to the
readers as they continue to read the story. Chopin seems to be discovering passion and money.
Although it is clear that Brantain loved Nathalie at any stage in the story, the reader doubts that this
love is mutually shared. There is an attitude saying that Nathalie married Brantain, not love, but rather
a comfortable life with Brantain; A rich man who is aware of the reader (as opposed to Harvy). It is
possible that Chopin s women (who wrote the story) might claim that people have established
financial security or stability, and instead of marrying love, many women should marry men who can.
Give them financial security. Even if we do not like Nathalie Brantain (as it is with Harvy), it does not
have economic independence to live his life as he

Rite Of Initiation In Araby By James Joyce
Rite of Initiation
Rite of initiation, sounds like something frightening, but in literature a rite or story of initiation does
not refer precisely to something of terror. The protagonist of Araby faces experiences for which his
previous experiences had not prepared him. In this case the main character enters a new stage of his
life (an evolutionary stage), from childhood to adolescence. For this reason, Araby, by James Joyce,
should be considered a story of initiation.
The protagonist, and at the same time the narrator of this story is a child that all the experiences he has
had are based on school and play with his friends. He lives in a small, quiet neighborhood, where day
to day life is monotonous. However, the protagonist loses interest in the games, since something else
catches his attention: the sister of his friend Mangan. This boy spends hours looking at this girl and
does not understand the sensations and feelings that she causes, feelings that come to his life for the
first time to make him discover love.
The protagonist has not lived before a similar situation since it is the first time that falls in love. This
first experience represents a discovery. This child does not understand the feelings discovered and the
state in which he is. (...) I myself did not understand (...) I thought little of the future. I did not know
whether I would ever speak to her or not or, if I spoke to her, how I could tell her of my confused
adoration (par. 5). The protagonist

Analysis of Academic Dishonesty Essay
Abstract
The easier, softer way is not the road less traveled. In this paper, I plan to use myself as a case study
for a look inside the mind of a cheater. I will start out with a definition of academic dishonesty given
by our school and hope to go through some valid excuses used by people who cheat. I will also look at
how further complications and confusion arises by students and teachers perception of themselves and
their role in the problem. I will address the changing culture and how it can be a useful smokescreen
that tries to make cheating a social issue as well as a moral one. I will use morality to discredit a view
that certain forms of dishonesty are more acceptable than others forms. I hope to end my ... Show

After all, according to a study in Psychology Today, Forty to 60 percent of college students today
would cheat if given a chance (Davis, 1992). If 3 out of every 5 people are cheating and getting away
with it then why does it matter if I cheat occasionally? This method of rationalization is the root of the
problem when dealing with academic dishonesty today. There are so many different excuses, many
sounding very reasonable that it is very to get brainwashed, especially when it is something a person
wants to believe in order to justify wrong actions.
If the lack of morality or the declining deviation of demoralization is the main reason for cheating then
it might be useful to give an explanation of morality. According to M. Oakeshott in an article from
Human Conduct, Morality is a set of manners, customs, and compunctions that govern how we act and
speak in our relationships. We learn morality in the same way we learn a language: by speaking to
others and reacting in turn. Morality is also like a language in that 1.) it utilizes grammar, 2.) some
speak the moral language or act better than others, 3.) it changes with use, and 4.) there are many
different moral dialects.
(1992, p. 92)
Looking at morality from this perspective presents

Dear Editor, Your article pertaining to the crimes against the older population was thorough and well
delivered. The elderly population is indeed becoming victimized on a larger scale than has been seen
in the past. This increase is a result of the growing number of seniors living in society with little
protection. Perhaps the most compelling part of your article was that of your question Who is
responsible for protecting these individuals? You pose quite a thought and emotion invoking question
and one which I could not help but share ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a family member is suspected of being the perpetrator of abuse, neglect, or exploitation they should
in fact not be involved in the seniors life but otherwise there should be a common sense rule that we
look out for our family members. Too often seniors refuse to report abuse, neglect, or crime against
them out of fear of losing independence. It is a common misconception that being victimized will
deem you unfit to live independently and will result in being placed in a facility of some sort. It is
important that seniors feel they can turn to those around them with concerns and incidents that occur.
In the event that a senior is not forthcoming with information there are a number of avenues that may
involve reporting of suspected incidents. Hospitals, doctors, community service organizations, and
long term care facilities can report suspected crimes to authorities or Department of Social Services in
an effort to protect the individual. If a senior cannot properly protect themselves then health care
professionals from all areas should have the ability to act on behalf of the individual to seek help but
not dictate the overall outcome as a result. For example: simply finding that a person has been a victim
of exploitation should not mean that a person be moved immediately into a facility forfeiting their
right to care for themselves. All facilities acting to protect a senior should aim to preserve senior

  • 2. The Library Of Alexandria Campus Library The main goal of libraries, are to teach students how to make use of the resources. The library of NVCC dedicates itself into helping students at the Alexandria campus. That is why it provides a wide range of sources that aids its students. Whether it is for a class, a job, or a research, the library has the materials they need to execute their work. In the words of Robert Putnam, a political scientist who teaches at Harvard University, he said that People may go to the library looking mainly for information, but they find each other there. To clarify what is said, people may use the library for information; but due to the materials that they found in their research, they realize that if they made use of the library for their previous works, they would have met the requirements that were needed. The argument presented on this paper, is that the Alexandria campus library has a great effect on students in terms of helping them meet their academic goals. Although, there are some modifications it needs to make it better and more user friendly. One thing the NOVA library does, is that it gives students a connection to a greater academic community. There are fifty computers provided in the library for students to execute their work. Students can come in at anytime and make use of them. The staff at the library consists of twelve people, that are working to make a positive effect on those students who are making use of the library. Four of those people are faculty member, ... • 3. Case Study Of Starbucks Success In Australia Introduction Starbucks finally failed in Australia. The company closed almost all of its 84 Australian stores in the year of 2013. The brand made several mistakes that contributed to the declined business in Australia. Starbucks entered the market in 2000. At that point, McCafe and Gloria Jean s were already established there. The thing is, Starbucks stores were also opened in low traffic areas and were charged more money than the other competitors. Although the disappointing sales in Australia didn t set back Starbucks that much. But we still should learn something from it. The company has reported that 2 main factors had hold their business back: the worsening economic conditions in the US and some poor real estate decisions, these plagued the company at that moment. Others have suggested that the increased competition from the likes of McDonald s has contributed to the decline. But surely there is more to it than that. Findings The company successfully brought café culture to Americans for the first time and introduced people, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surely people were aware that the beverages at Starbucks were more expensive than at many cafés but they still frequented the outlets, as it was a place to see and be seen . Here s a map showing countries with Starbucks The brand has more than 23,000 locations worldwide. About 5,500 of those are outside the U.S. But in a space of a month, coffee chain Starbucks went from ubiquity to near obscurity in Australia. Its decline meant significant losses for the company and put 700 staff out of work. Analysis of what went wrong, shows that the company with ambitions for global domination made fundamental mistakes such as trying to be all things to all people and charging a premium for a product that did not meet customer expectations. So how did Starbucks fail in Australia? Here s some of my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Oralism In The Early 20th Century In France, the United States, and some other countries, instruction and communication were carried out in various sign languages, while in Britain, Germany, and elsewhere in northern Europe oralism (speech and lipreading) dominated. These schools graduates formed local and national deaf communities. For example, deaf Swedes founded the Stockholm Deaf Club in 1868. In the mid 19th century school alumni in the United States, who communicated in the American Sign Language (ASL) they had developed, established newspapers, churches, and social clubs. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries an aggressive oralist movement challenged sign languages everywhere. Resisting oralism, the American deaf community formed state political associations and, in 1880, founded the National Association of the Deaf. Deaf advocates fought the revamping of education and defended ASL. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Satan As A Tragic Hero Essay DeRosas 1 Sundi M. DeRosas Professor Julie Roth ENGL.2322.W31C 6 December, 2015 Satan as a tragic hero In the poem of ?Paradise Lost? written by John Milton, Satan is thought of as a tragic hero because he is perceived as a strong leader to the fallen angels and has tremendous importance. He struggles to overcome his apprehensions and choses to dedicate him to evil. He lacks strength to accomplish his goal of corrupting mankind. Satan becomes unable to judge God?s grace and is not able to find a way of making his past right. Therefore, he is punished by being condemned to eternal Hell. In the beginning of ?Paradise Lost?, Milton draws the reader to Satan by his very seductive ways and lures them to believe he is an innocent victim by his cunning character. The reader sees Satan as having attributes of a hero because we see him through his eyes. His evil is brought to human level and one may feel compelled to understand him. We begin to sympathize with him against our will and realize just how seductive evil really is and not to succumb to it. Satan shares his pain and alienation as he reaches Earth. The reader can identify with him and therefore feels sympathetic towards him. Many tragic heroes begin their journey because of self assurance and pride and are not prosperous in the end. Satan obtains a struggle within him and questions God?s relationship with the angels in Heaven and doesn?t believe God should be above everyone else. He has many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ambiguous Concepts Of Insolvency Between Temporary Lack Of... 1. Ambiguous concepts of insolvency between temporary lack of liquidity S588G impose a duty on directors stop a company trading while it is insolvent or would become insolvent. The provision requires directors take any reasonable steps to prevent incurring debts and maintain the maximum abilities to pay the present creditors or protect future creditors. The ultimately objective is to protect the creditors. According to S588G, as long as the directors suspect that the company is insolvent or would become insolvent and fail to prevent a company from insolvent trading, he or she would potentially personal liable for all the debts incurred since insolvency. Under S95A, A company is insolvent if it is unable to pay all its debts when they become due for payment (Hanrahan, 2015). It is difficult for directors to figure out whether the company is temporary lack of liquidity or insolvent. Furthermore, the uncertain local and global economic conditions would make them feel hesitant about whether the decision they make will save the company not. This provision put significantly personal liabilities on directors shoulder. Directors special without company share directors would rather to simply give up saving the company by winding up or appointing an administrator than put their personal wealth on risk even though there is a chance to rescue it. One of the objective of appointing an voluntary administration is to put a company into a temporary safety zone from its creditors and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Legacy Of President Abraham Lincoln President Abraham Lincoln was the leader of the United States for five years, yet he is often only remembered for leading the Union to victory in the Civil War and freeing the slaves in the process. These accomplishments go together and it is easy to assume part of, if not the entire reason for war was to end slavery. He is credited with freeing the slaves because of his emancipation proclamation. This eventually brings and end to the institution, but should we really credit this all to Lincoln? Was Lincoln the only one to recognize the moral issues with slavery and destroy it with one single blow? African Americans are overlooked when talking about their emancipation but they were some of the strongest advocates for the end to slavery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He continues by pleading, ...You, white fellow citizens, constitute a very large majority of the voters ... Therefore, we appeal to you to stand by us, and see that we are not unjustly punished (McPherson, p. 16). Massachusetts representatives opposed the compromise in Washington which proved the importance the free northern blacks in attaining freedom for all African Americans. After these failed attempts at compromise, war ensues. In the early stages of the war many blacks ran across battle lines to the north attempting to escape bondage. Under the fugitive slave law, they were returned back to their owners. This begins to change after prominent free back leaders like Fredrick Douglass chastise the government for avoiding slavery as the central war issue. He exclaims, Why? Oh! Why, in the name of all that is national, does our Government allow its enemies this powerful advantage? ... The very stomach of the rebellion is the negro in the condition of a slave... The negro is the key of the situation the pivot upon which the whole rebellion turns... (McPherson, p. 39). • 8. Language And Culture In Ken Wiwa s Get Beyond Babel Ken Wiwa presents several ideas pertaining to language and culture within his essay, Get Beyond Babel. Wiwa explains that every language has a chance of dying out over time. For any language to survive through years of societal changes, it must be adapted so it can be used to embrace other cultures, new technology and new perspectives. Wiwa presents the concept that language is the same as culture. I do not agree with this concept because I believe that culture is carried by the people, not by the language. Wiwa uses the idea that languages never die if they are always taking concepts from other languages. My parents mother tongue is a prime example of countering the statement. My parents were both born in Sri Lanka and spoke Tamil as they grew up, which is a language that has been around for over 2000 years. It is a language that was primarily used in South Asia, but has grown. The language of Tamil did not always have to adopt terms from other languages to expand. Over 100 million people today continue to speak the language. As a language, Anglo Saxon, or Old English, was very different from modern English, similarly to Tamil. However, Tamil is a language that has been able to thrive on its own. Tamil counters Wiwa s idea that languages absorb other dialects to survive. In fact, in South Asia, it is the other way around and dialects in Sri Lanka must adopt the Tamil language to stay relevant. The language of Tamil did not become extinct or endangered because of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Compare And Contrast Persia And Greece I chose to use legalism for my vocabulary word from this chapter. Legalism is the political philosophy which advocates for clear rules and harsh punishments when those rules are broken. This is all used as a means of enforcing the authority of the state. Persia and Greek city states were entirely different in certain areas of their happenings. Both of these city states were made up of Indo European people whose legacy came directly from the first civilizations. Even though they were similar in their population makeup they were very different when it came to the everyday happenings in the cities. Persia was a much more sophisticated city than that of Greece. Persia had many luxuries like a standard coinage, standard taxes, canal linking the Nile and Red Sea, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greece on the other hand was much smaller with a fraction of the Persian population with around 2 3 million people. Greece was made up of hundreds of small city states and small settlements while Persia was one absolute monarchy. One way Persia became so powerful was with their rich agriculture while Greece destroyed all of their own rich farmland by causing deforestation and soil erosion. One of the biggest differences between these two states and the one I believe is the most significant was their approach to politics. Persia was controlled by the king and said king was in charge of all politics. Greece was one of the first places to use a system of government where the people managed the affairs and what went on in politics. I believe that this is significant because they both took a completely different approach to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Treadwell s Relationship With Animals In Literature Human beings have always looked for similarities between themselves and other people as to gain common ground. However people also attempt to make connections between themselves and the more primal parts of nature. Animals have been along side people for centuries and them being by our side we ve assigned them certain traits and meanings as an attempt to connect with them on a deeper level. The Egyptians treated felines as almost gods in their culture because, after domestication, they killed vermin which helped crops grow. That praise evolved into worship, and gave felines new meaning among human beings. In many ways humans change animals to suit their purposes in literature and as to allow us to more finely tune our imagination to the lives of animals. Human beings don t have any idea what it s like anymore to be one with their natural surroundings which is why we focus so intently on relating to the lives of animals. The more we try to become kindred with animals, the more definitive the relationship between humans and animals becomes. Our relationship is almost anything we decide it to be on our end of it, but as for the animals they seem to fairly indifferent. We can say whatever we want to say about our own relationships with animals, but they re not going to ignore their own primal instincts no matter what we say. This is demonstrated through Timothy Treadwell s experience with the grizzly bears in Alaska. Treadwell truely believed to be a kindred spirit with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are some external factors can be affected to Woolworths strategy. In addition, its business size is very big which includes Australian overall market and some other foreign markets. A lot of selling stores around Australia are good example. Moreover, the expensive start up costs are another barrier for new competitors. Finally, the high annual profit of Woolworths is hard for others to enter the retail and grocery industry in Australia. 3.2 Rivalry among established companies The Australian retail and grocery industry has a high level of concentration ratio because the available of some major competitors competing in the industry such as Woolworths Ltd, Myer or Coles (Beaumont, 2004). It means Woolworths have a high concentration of market share in the Australian retail and grocery industry. • 12. Components Of The Worm Drive Gearbox 2.0 Component Analysis The worm drive gearbox is comprised of a worm screw running off the input shaft and engaging the worm wheel perpendicularly1. Bonfiglioli states in their quality standards that they are committed to supplying effective products and go on to say they will never compromise on safety, compliance or quality2. As a business, it is in their best interests to do so as cost effectively as possible; keeping both these points in mind will help to analyse the various parts of the gearbox and assess possible materials used, as well as manufacturing processes performed. 2.1 Worm shaft 2.1.1 Function The input shaft has a keyway cut which enables the motor to rotate the worm; this in turn results in the worm wheel rotating due to contact between the worm thread and the teeth of the worm wheel3. In order for the gearbox to continuously perform this function smoothly and efficiently over time it is important that the worm shaft s material is carefully considered to avoid the three principle factors that will influence performance1. 2.1.2 Materials With the worm screw being in constant contact with the worm wheel, there has to be consideration of wear due to friction when selecting the material. In order to avoid amounts of wear that will be detrimental to performance, the shaft s material must have a high surface hardness1. It s important that this is achieved without the hardening of the entire thread because this will result in the material becoming more brittle. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My interpretation of White Rabbit is that the narrator discusses how drugs can be used in defiance to escape authority. As mentioned above, White Rabbit is influenced by Lewis Carroll s Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the Looking Glass. The first verse argues that the world is in color, but that people in authority sometimes tries to enforce that the world is either black or white. Since the general public out numbers those in authority, they can lead a protest that can change the ways of society and the law. When the protesters gain their victory, they can feel like their ten feet tall. The second verse then process to discuss that not all protests are successful. In fact, some people protest even though they may not necessary know the whole story and/or know that the protest will fail. Political parties perform important tasks in government. In fact, political parties select candidates and check the other party. Political parties also inform the public. Most importantly, they organize the government (Political Parties, n.d.). The history of U.S political parties begins with the Federalists and their opponents the Anti Federalists who became the Democratic Republicans. Two major political parties in the United States today, however, are Democrats and Republicans. The U.S is one of the very few countries with only two dominant parties and there is so much attention focused on only two parties in the United State. Why Only Two Parties (n.d) explained that the two party system in the U.S is largely due to what is called plurality voting in single member districts, also means, winner takes all voting system. In addition, the two parties, Democrats and Republicans, have essentially crowded out the other minor parties. It makes extremely difficult for someone from one of those parties to become elected (Ch. 7). These two parties, the Democrats and Republicans, survived through the decades and they have contrasting beliefs that distinguish them from one another. The Importance Of Violent Video Games Not only does gaming take up a significant amount of time, but research show[s] that playing violent video games can increase a person s aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in laboratory settings and in daily life (American Psychological Association). Aggressive behavior hurts relationships by making it hard to get along. Yet, often the question arises whether it is aggressive people or children who are drawn to video games rather than video games causing them to become aggressive. Studies have been done to answer this question. One study found that compared with a group who had played a nonviolent video game, those who had been engaged in Mortal Kombat were more aggressive across the board. They gave their fellow students significantly bigger portions of the hot sauce (Carey). Examples of increased aggressive behaviors climax when events such as real life attacks and shootings happen and can be attributed to video games. Now I wouldn t say video games are the only factor in events like these but it s hard to imagine they play no significant role either. Take the following drastic event as an example: Two men accused of running down Jerry Steinberg with a car, then beating and kicking him into a coma, . . . had spent part of the previous night drinking beer and playing Grand Theft Auto III . . . After attacking Steinberg, they played the video game again, police were told. Meanwhile, about five miles away, Steinberg s family gathered at Saint Mary s Mercy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The protagonist of Araby faces experiences for which his previous experiences had not prepared him. In this case the main character enters a new stage of his life (an evolutionary stage), from childhood to adolescence. If a family member is suspected of being the perpetrator of abuse, neglect, or exploitation they should in fact not be involved in the seniors life but otherwise there should be a common sense rule that we look out for our family members.
