The Disappearance Of Childhood Analysis
In the book, The Disappearance of Childhood, Postman s overall claim is that childhood is
disappearing because children are able to get access to information about adult secrets.
I agree with Postman s main argument; however, I disagree with some of his claims that he used to
support the main argument.
In chapter 1, Postman claimed that children who are participating in games such as Little League
baseball and Pee Wee football are playing because they are pursuing reputation, not because they
wanted to do something fun, or because they were pursuing pleasure. I disagree with Postman s claim
since I believe in the exact opposite. I believe that for a child to play sports in their own time, they
must first enjoy that sport. If a child doesn t like playing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is true for all sports. For an example, I m not an athletic person, and I dislike all sports. Since I
don t find pleasure in playing sports, I don t want to do anything related to it, which includes joining
any sport organizations. I had a classmate who loved baseball. He would have found great pleasure in
joining Little League baseball because he loved the sport. I believe that the reputation the child gets
from playing the sport is just something that is included.
Postman claims that with adultified child , children who think and act similar to adults, and childfied
adult , where adults think and act similar to children, children s and adults beliefs and characteristics
are merging into one. This represents the disappearance of the generation gap, where everyone is in
the same generation. In the beginning, I disagreed with his claim. I thought that the generation gap is
still there. Children are growing up with technology. In this generation, a child as young as

The Impact Of The Costa Concoria
It feels just like the titanic, what you see in the film, Titanic is what this is related to. (Stribley, 2012).
This is what one of the performers alluded to when the Costa Concordia capsizes which killed 32
people, costing more than 1 billion dollars. Micky Arison, a CEO and part owner of the Carnival has
kept his lips closed and out of the presence of the media when one of his company ships sunk off the
coast of Italy in 2012. (Terror At Sea Sinking of the Concordia [Motion picture]. (2012). At first blush,
according to the case, Carnival s shares plummeted to 14% in the first day of trading in New York City
after the accident, also wiping hundreds of millions of dollars off the net worth, making the
stakeholders negatively impacted severely. (pg. 2, paragraph 19) However, some people would sway
to the decision that the board of directors and stockholders were impacted in a positive light because
of Arison s hiding behind the scenes during the cataclysmic ship wreck, it made the company and
other cruise liners paid less attraction. By maintained a low public profile during the Costa Concordia
crisis, Mr Arison and Carnival also might limit the focus on the parent company and its other cruise
lines ( pg. 1, paragraph 9) It can also be debated that stock prices would have derailed further if Arison
was prescence in the media. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, Arison took social responsabilty. According to the text, the definition for social
responsabity is a manager s duty to take actions that will benefit the interest of society as well as of
the organization. (pg. 86, paragraph 1). With regard to Arison responding to Carnivel s internal and
external stakeholder in a socially responsible manner some would speculate and say that he was
saving himself in terms of avoiding the media and protecting his self image and the company
reputation, rather than the outside

The Cycle Of The Hydrologic Cycle
The hydrologic cycle, also known as the water cycle, is a continuous rotation of water changing states
through the Earth, ocean and atmosphere in a circulating system (Watts Forbes, 2011; US Department
of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013). The water cycle alters throughout different
locations due to weather patterns and climate around the world (Watts Forbes, 2011). The major
processes that make up the hydrologic cycle are evaporation, transpiration, condensation,
precipitation, and runoff, with many further processes as seen in Appendix 1.1 and simplified in
Appendix 1.2.
Evaporation
Evaporation, in general, involves a substance changing its physical state from a liquid to a gas (US
Department of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013; Northwest River Forecast Centre
[NRFC], n.d). An example of this is when the body heats up during exercise or due to temperature,
and releases sweat to try and cool down and producing water onto the skin (US Department of
Commerce, n.d). Energy is required for evaporation to occur, and this energy source can come from
the atmosphere, entities such humans, or in the case of the water cycle, the sun is the source of energy
(US Department of Commerce, n.d). During the hydrologic cycle, evaporation occurs when the sun
interacts with liquid water such has lakes and rivers, the ocean and soil, to cause water particles to
become water vapour by heating the water (National Geographic Society, n.d; Miller Spoolman,

Natural Antihistamines
High doses of vitamin C and B complex act as natural anti histamine to control allergies. You will
need a vet s assistance to determine the dosage.
Cleaning you area You might want to vacuum and dust your home quite often. This may not entirely
eliminate allergies but can restrict it, and also do change your air filter monthly. This is good for both
you and your pet. Veterinarians say it is important to wash your pets bedding once a week to reduce
buildup of dust mites which are major causes of allergy in dogs and cats.
Consider the litter box Sometimes the litter box product you buy is made to have a pleasant scent to
you but not necessarily to your pet. It may be very sensitive to smell and this can cause it to have
allergy.
More serious allergy:
There are two types of immune disorders that seriously affect pets. They are hyperthyroidism and
inflammatory bowel disease which trigger chronic allergy. They are more difficult to treat naturally
and need careful treatment plan that can take over a year to see the result.
This is usually caused by taking different vaccinations for a lengthy period of time, lengthy
dependence on commercial pet food, and overuse of cortisone drugs to suppress pet symptoms.
Here is a special diet recipe for such serious dog allergy.

Jfk And The Space Race Essay
JFK and the Space Race
INTRO
Before the causes and results of Kennedy s decision to land on the moon can be adequately analyzed
and discussed, it is necessary to understand the context of his time as President and the events that
preceded it. Therefore, I will provide a small amount of context about the Cold War and the situation
leading up to Kennedy s We choose to go to the moon speech on September 12, 1962. (Citation).
After the Second World War, the United States and the Soviet Union became embroiled in what is now
known as the Cold War, this was both an international competition between two countries, and an
ideological confrontation between capitalism and communism. This led to direct and indirect
competition on many fronts, such as proxy wars and police actions, the Olympics, the Nuclear Arms
Race, and the Space Race. (Citation).
Although there is disagreement on the precise date that the Space Race began, the moment that it
became an important competition that was in the forefront of the minds of everyday Americans is on
April 12, 1961 when Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin orbited the earth in Vostok 1. (citation). This
event created a feeling amongst the American public that the Russians were further ahead in science
and technology than the United States, as well as the fear that the Soviets could use their superior
technology to be better able to attack the USA from a distance. Shortly after Gagarin s flight, the
United States launched astronaut Alan Sheppard into

The Goodnight Inn s Strategy
The GoodNight Inn s Strategy
Abstract:
Anton Cahoon is the manager of the motel GoodNight Inn. During the first two years of operation
occupancy levels have remained far below average level for the motels classification. Therefore, he
wants to make a change and explore opportunities to increase the occupancy levels and profitability.
We will use the following framework to help analyze and evaluate the possible strategies Anton
should follow, ultimately coming to a final marketing strategy and reasons for pursuing that strategy:
Background:
Customers: He currently does not focus on a target market, instead relying on people to find his motel
as they head towards the tourist area.
Company:
From the aspect of the motel itself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this analysis we can conclude that the target market in which promotion should be aimed at is
people who have higher incomes and thus able to afford the benefits of requiring additional facilities.
We can also identify that they are longer staying visitors with quite a large percentage booking in
advance; therefore tools such as a website would be necessary to attract them.
Evaluation of Potential Strategies:
Strategy 1: Make minor changes to the current operations. A few minor but potentially beneficial
changes Anton could make to his business in terms of marketing strategy would be the use of more
promotional materials and advertising signs. However this method, without the use of a website, can
be seen as having little impact on attracting a wider customer range. Furthermore minor changes
cannot solve the whole problem, therefore major changes such as the addition of a restaurant or
recreational facilities can be seen as the best option to pursue higher revenue and sales.
However it is not realistic for him to achieve this on his own without an established brand image such
as Holiday Inn behind him. He himself lacks the experience and managerial skills of running a
restaurant. If he did indeed include a restaurant in his hotel it would seem that he would have to
employ a manager to run it, however the costs would outweigh the potential revenue earned. Without
joining a chain, creating a website would be costly and not

The Journal of Quantitative Criminology distributes papers that are pertinent to the criminology
community that explore various criminology subjects. In an effort to improve relations between police
and the public whom which they are sworn to protect and serve, Chief of the Rialto (CA) Police
Department, Tony Farrar published a scientific study in the Journal of Quantitative Criminology. The
field studies performed by Chief Farar and his colleagues Dr. Arial Barak and Dr. Alex Sutherland,
both of Cambridge University received international awards, recognition and praise for the abundance
of data collected from the effects of body worn cameras worn by police.
The National Institute of Justice is the evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice. Missions
of the Institute consist of, but are not limited to, research that provides tools to reduce crime while also
promoting justice for police and the communities they serve. Data from a study conducted in 2013
which was funded by the Police Executive Research Forum, (PERF) was originally intended to assist
the Institute in the creation of an implementation plan and use of body worn police cameras.
Information gathered by multi agency studies inspired the National Institute of Justice, to continue
independent ongoing research of the pros and cons of body worn cameras by police officers.

Telomerase Research Paper
Telomerase extends the telomeres of the chromosomes, and it is important during the development
period. Although, telomerase activates in 90% of tumors. The function of the enzyme telomerase is
when the enzyme extends the telomeres of the chromosomes. The enzyme is making the DNA using
RNA as a template (Telomeres and Telomerase). The binding of the enzyme goes to a special RNA
molecule to contain a sequencing which is complementary to the telomere repeat. It then extends an
overhanging strand of the telomere DNA using the complementary RNA as a template. The overhang
then becomes long enough, and the matching strand is made by a normal DNA replication. This
finally produces a double stranded DNA. Cancer can begin with a cell. The telomeres

My Key Point For Success
Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. There is different techniques people
use to make sure they reach success. I have read some stories that all have dealt with someone aiming
for success. The stories I read are A Right To Choose Single Sex Education, Next Term, We ll Mash
You, Raising Smart Kids, A Walk To The Jetty, and ILE. There are four techniques I use to be
successful. The first is knowing my strengths and weaknesses. The second thing I do to reach success
is focusing on myself and not on others or what is going on around me. Another technique for myself
to be successful is to keep in mind what I really want and working towards my goals. My last key

I show what and how much I actually know when I am either by myself or with all girls. I can t choose

Another thing to reach success is to focus on myself and not what is going on around me. When I was
younger I only cared to hang out with friends. School was not important to me, mainly because
everything felt too hard for me. Even though I have brothers, they weren t much of a help when it
came to school. The story The Secret To Raising Smart Kids by Carol S. Dweck talked about two
different mindsets people can have. One of them was a growth mindset and the other was a fixed
mindset. To have a growth mindset is to know that your intelligence can be molded. To have a fixed
mindset is to believe intelligence is something you are born with. I was always a students with a fixed
mindset. They thought that a person with talent or intelligence did not need to work hard to do well.
Attributing a bad grade to their own lack of ability, those with a fixed mindset said that they would
study less in the future, try never to take that subject again and consider cheating on future tests. (lines

Gangster Rap
Jean Kilbourne, a media specialist, raises an interesting point in one of her lectures when she states,
The average American is exposed to 3000 advertisements per day. Yet, everyone in America still feels
personally exempt from the media. They say, I don t pay attention to ads. I just tune them out. They
have no effect on me. She later states most of the people who have said this to her were wearing
Gap™ tee shirts. Whether people realize it or not, there is a direct correlation between the media and
an individual s identity. Along with products, the media also sells values, views, images, and concepts
of normalcy. The media tells us who we are and who we should be. Unfortunately, many times the
media tells us things that have a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, the negative impact on a person s individual identity is large. We imitate practices
displayed in the media, however licentious they may be and this changes our values and our self
image, which changes our individual identity. The collective identity is also impacted because the
media, in this scenario rap, changes our paradigms about the roles people play in a society. This is
done in rap songs with the degrading of women and the encouragement of violence. As outlined here,
media in the form of modern music or rap has a negative effect on a human beings collective and
individual identity.
Next I am going to talk about advertising focused on gender roles as a form of negative media. For
women, the media is always focused on how they look. It constantly degrades women s self esteem by
telling them to be skinny, vulnerable, powerless, and silenced. In addition, the media turns women into
objects or things instead of beings, which encourages violence towards them. This teaches women it is
okay for people to use them. Men are also negatively impacted by the media as they are scrutinized for
having feminine qualities such as compassion, nurturance, cooperation, empathy, sensitivity, and good
communication skills. Men are told they must be violent, brutal, and ruthless, especially towards
women. The media s perspective on what it means

Essay On Insanity Defense
The insanity defense is the most controversial criminal defense that is used in courts (The Insanity).
Ironically, it is the defense that is used the least. According to a professor of law at Santa Clara
University, Professor Alexander, the plea is only used one percent of the time, and works less than half
the time it is used (Steibel). In cases where it is used, it tends to get a lot of attention from the media
which provokes debate from the public (The Insanity). Critics have reservations concerning the
exploitation of the plea, namely that the defendants will use to get shorter sentences or to evade a
guilty verdict completely (The Insanity). However, according to a study done by the American
Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the majority of those who are judged not guilty by reason of
insanity do in fact suffer from a mental illness (The Insanity). History has shown us that we need the
insanity defense because a person cannot be held responsible for their crimes if they do not have the
mental capacity to understand what they have done wrong or cannot stop themselves from committing
this crime, it would be unjust to punish someone who does not deserve it.
The insanity defense is a plea from the defendant claiming he is not guilty as they do not have the
mental capacity to appreciate what they have done wrong or comprehend the fact that they have
committed a crime (Martin). The basis for insanity was introduced when Daniel M Naghten attempted
to assassinate the prime

Education
People who are educated are likely to seek health care in order to have good health. According to Ross
and Wu, people who are educated are less likely to smoke and drink, more likely to be physically
active, and get regular health check ups (1995, p. 719). The article claims education is measured by
surveying students and determining which grade level they are in. Education can also be measured by
the highest degree or diploma obtained for those who have left school (Garcia McCarthy, p. 42).
Measuring education using this method provides researchers with information regarding how many
years of schooling people have received. This measurement is also seen in the study of Schneider.
According to Schneider, the highest level of education successfully completed is either indicated by
the highest educational qualification achieved or by the number of years of education or schooling
completed (2011, p. 2). The information is obtained from surveys completed by respondents. This

Youth Violence Research Paper
Back in the old days, violence was a seldom occurrence. As years passed, however, it became more
and more common. In today s time, violence is just a part of everyday life and is happening among all
age groups of people. Shockingly, the biggest spike in violence has happened among teenagers and
young children. While there are many factors associated with this increase in youth violence, one of
the biggest key components is that cartoons, such as Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, and Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles, contain a lot more violence than they used to.
Tom and Jerry is a very well known cartoon that has been around for a long time. Although most
people probably see nothing wrong with the show, it is actually filled with all sorts of violence. In
every episode of Tom and Jerry, Tom, the cat, tries to capture and eat Jerry, the mouse. As if that is not
bad enough, the whole time that Tom is trying to get Jerry they are constantly beating and hitting each
other. There are not many moments in any of the episodes where Tom and Jerry are not attempting to
kill each other. An example of this is shown in one show where Tom has a gun and is shooting at Jerry

Each show of Scooby Doo is about a group of kids solving mysteries by sneaking into places, setting
booby traps to capture people, and other things like that. All this is doing is teaching children that they
can go and do whatever they want, because the people in the cartoons they watch are doing it. In one
particular show of Scooby Doo the group is trying to figure out who has been haunting a house. To
figure out who it is, they set a booby trap to apprehend the person, and then they tie them to a chair so
they can not escape. This is just one way that Scooby Doo subconsciously teaches children that it is

Evaluation of Erin Brockovich Leadership Essay
It takes a very strong, dedicated leader to take the road less traveled by in order to stand behind what
they believe is right or wrong. The easy route may seem more appealing to most because there is no
challenge and you can almost always predict the outcome. Dr. Ronald W. Roskens, an internationally
known and respected leader, gave a speech titled, Ethical Leaders: The Wide and Easy Way, and
stated, Leaders can choose the easy way out, or they can attempt to apply ethics to their decisions and
actions. True leaders are principled individuals, who assume their positions because they have earned
the respect and, in certain sense, the allegiance of others. This is the perfect definition of an ethical
leader. Julia Roberts portrays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is clear that Erin Brockovich contains all seven components of this model, which have clearly
outlined her leadership development for the greater good. The steps in ethical decision making are as
follows: 1. Stop and think, 2. Clarify goals, 3. Determine facts, 4. Develop Options, 5. Consider
consequences, 6. Choose, 7. Monitor and modify (Josephson, 2002). These seven steps are shown in
this short scene as well. First Erin thought of all of the possibilities. Then she realized that convincing
Ed to expand the lawsuit is her goal. They determined the facts that it would be a hard case, PG E is a
huge company, and they would need more evidence. After that, Erin stated the options to either let it
go, knowing that PG E is poisoning and harming people or fight for justice. Ed stated that PG E could
burry them in paperwork and appeals and put them in debt. Finally they chose to expand the lawsuit
despite all the possible consequences. And then Ed proceeded to tell Erin to modify her research to
prove PG E are aware that they were poisoning and harming people. There are six pillars of character
that describe an ethical leader: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship
(Josephson, 2002). One scene that depicts these six characteristics in Erin Brockovich is in the end
when she gives Donna Jensen the news that PG E was had settled for $338 million with

Multiple Sclerosis Is A Prolonged, Progressive, Wasting...
Multiple sclerosis is a prolonged, progressive, wasting disorder of the Central Nervous System
categorized by distributed demyelination of nerve fibers of the brain and spinal cord. The onset of MS
is usually between 20 and 50 years of age, although it can occur in young teens and much older adults.
Women are affected two of three times more often than men. (Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper, Bucher,
Camera, 2014, p. 1428) MS is five times more dominant in temperate climates such as those found in
the northern United States, Canada, and Europe, as linked to tropical regions. Relocation from one

1432). According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (2014), MS happens to families, not just
to individuals. When a person is diagnosed with MS, there is immediate impact on all who love them.
Family members may experience similar emotions to the person with MS as they adapt to MS in their
lives fear, guilt, anger, denial, grief, anxiety . The exact cause of MS is unknown. However, its
pathogenesis is associated with irregular immune responses against CNS antigens, interference of the
blood brain barrier (BBB) and trans endothelial migration of activated leukocytes, as well as
chemokines and cytokines, from peripheral circulation to the CNS. In active disease, there appears to
be ongoing inflammatory as well as neurodegenerative processes within the CNS atmosphere. The
triggering event for the first attack of MS remains projected. It is assumed that genetic and
environmental factors are involved in the progress of MS. (Borazanci, 2009, p. 2) Potential
precipitating factors include infection, smoking, physical injury, emotional stress, excessive fatigue,
pregnancy, and poor state of health. The role of triggering factors such exposure to pathogenic agents
is controversial. The association with multiple sclerosis is possibly random and there probably is no
cause and effect relationship. (Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper, Bucher, Camera, 2014, p. 1428)

The War That Made America
America is the home of the free because of the brave. Most Americans know this to be true because of
our current armed forces but more importantly our past. Our past militiamen and soldiers have gained
us freedoms and homestead of our own religions, families, and the power to make our own decisions.
Over the past few weeks I have read many different articles and a narrative by Fred Anderson, The
war that made America. . Through all these things I ve come to see how big of an impact our armies
have made past and present. The thing people don t take into consideration is that from the founding
of Jamestown until 1785 the American colonial society was in a constant state of conflict.
The United States is a land that was created through war. To end a war we must have a solid army to
defend the things we want to achieve. Whether its freedom from our fathering country s or to show the
power we have. Understanding how we have come to be from wars like the French and Indian war
that sparked the beginning of the American revolution and the military culture and how the experience
and significance of our country s soldiers and militia men compared and brings us to our American
military culture and the value s of American thought, culture, and society. We would not have things
like Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness , if it wasn t for our great nations military force. A time
period ranging from about 1755 to 1861 America has dealt with many trials and stipulations that

Google Case Analysis
Google Situational Analysis I chose Google for this case study. Google has been both a pioneer and is
a leader in the online world. Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford University in 1995.
By 1996, they had built a search engine (initially called BackRub) that used links to determine the
importance of individual webpages. Google.com was registered as a domain on September 15, 1997.
The name a play on the word googol reflects Larry and Sergey s mission to organize a seemingly
infinite amount of information on the web. Google is most profitable through its online advertising
though it has also become very popular in many realms of the online world and technology both.
SWOT Analysis
Strengths:
Online advertising
Advertising relevant to consumers
Web search
Android mobile operating system
Google Play Store
Massive amount of information
Growing brand awareness
Apps that gather information to craft better targeted adds
Indexing and ranking of more than 60 trillion webpages
Google Images, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, and many other profitable and/or
popular applications and services.
Cash in excess of $60 billion which equals a great cushion for Google

Ozark Furniture Inequailtiy Essay
Ozark Furniture Inequality
Mat: Introduction to Algebra
Ozark Furniture Inequality For this assignment we are use two rockers that Ozark Furniture makes and
assign variable to them then and then write a linear inequality for them. The linear inequality I will be
solving is: a store faxes an order of 175 modern rocking chair and 125 classic rocking chair to Ozark
Furniture and so will they be able to fill it. I will demonstrate my solution and include the
mathematical work to solve it. I am going to use a graph, which I will not be able to attach to my
document, but will show you how to use them and the findings. Inequality has been hard for me to
understand but I hope for this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first quadrant of the graph was used so the shaded portion goes to the origin before it stops at the
two axes.
The point on the graph in the shaded area would be (50, 40). That would mean that 50 feet would be
used for classic rockers and we would use 40 feet for the modern rocker that would be needed. So to
see if the order could be filled we will plug them in to the equation: 15c (50) = 750c for classic 12m
(40) = 480m which equals 750 + 480 = 1230. We can fill the order.
Another point on the graph that is outside the shaded area would be (150, 100). 150 would be for the
classic rocker and 100 for modern. Now, we plug them in to the equation to see if the order can be
filled. 15c (150) = 2250 for classic 12m (100) = 1200 which equals 2250 + 1200 = 3450 which means
the order can t be filled. Now if we use the point on the line we will have (124, 95). So 124 for the
classic and 95 for the maple. Let plug them in the equation. 15c (124) = 1860 for classic. 12m (95) =
1140 which equals 1860 + 1128 = 3000, which means we will have enough to fill the order. Now to
see if we can fill the order from the fax we have received. Which was 125 for the classic and 175 for
modern. Let us plug them into the equation. 15c (125) = 1875, 12m (175) = 2100, which equals 1875
+ 2100 =

Analysis of the Themes in Fight Club Essay
Analysis of the Themes in Fight Club
It is easy to understand how and why many who view Fight Club (Fincher, 1999) would argue that is
in essence a critique of post modern consumer culture within America or indeed the western world.
After all we are faced with Character(s) Jack (Edward Norton) who seems to gain no cultural
sustenance from the world in which he inhabits. More over it seems to do him harm in the form of
insomnia. This coupled with his obsession with Ikea and material goods leads to the creation of Tyler
(Brad Pit). Whose apparent goal is the destruction of the capitalist system? The film seems littered
with examples of anti consumer, anti capitalist motifs. The blowing up of ... Show more content on

One of the key issues which Giroux raises is that Fight Club tries to suggest consumerism has
destabilized masculinity in effect masculinity has been emasculated. However the film does not seem
to concern itself with any details regarding this process of consumerism in terms of economics or
practical application. In this respect it is very vague, using what could easily be described as sound
bites especially from Tyler to fill the gap where debate could be. Fight Club largely ignores issues
surrounding the break up of labour unions, the slashing of the U.S. workforce, extensive plant
closings, downsizing, outsourcing, the elimination of the welfare state, the attack on people of colour
and growing disparities between rich and poor. (Giroux, 2000:8). Fight Club seems content to portray
consumerism as an all encompassing continuum, which only those who are prepared to understand the
world through binary acts of violence and sabotage will be able to negate. This notion is problematic
in itself as it implies that everybody within the western world is blind to consumerism. But also the

Summary Of The Poem By Li Young Lee
Sadness is the feeling of down or unhappy in response to grief. The Poem To S.M., a Young African
Painter, on Seeing His Works by Phillis Wheatley, is about how a young painter sees himself as he
paints and what he feels. The poem A Story by Li Young Lee, is about a boy who asks his father to tell
him a story but the father cannot remember any. The tone for both of these poems is sadness. I will be
talking about the poetic devices in both of these poems, for example, both of these poems have
enjambment, figurative language, and tone. The first one that is going to be talked about is
Enjambment. Enjambment is the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond to the end of a
line, couplet, or stanza. In To S.M. an example of this

Descriptive Essay On Hunting
INTRO: I never thought I would feel so awful after pulling that trigger and watching that innocent
animal give it s life to me. I was only ten years old and my life was certainly impacted forever.
Nowadays, many people think that pulling the trigger of a gun is not hard at all. In reality, it might be
pretty easy. It is the aftermath on the other hand that will leave an internal scar, changing a person
forever. On my first deer hunt, a young buck stepped out of the dense willow clusters with it s head
down, giving me a shot. Soon I would be faced with the tough decision of taking the life of an
innocent animal. Meanwhile, on my first turkey hunt, there too I would soon be changed forever.
BODY PARAGRAPH #1: It was a cool and crisp evening that nipped at the tips of my toes and
fingers. I could smell the fresh snow from the previous night s dusting that blanketed the landscape
like a pearly white canvas. The sun was about to set and soon I would be out of daylight. That means
no deer this year. Shortly, a buck would come in and I would pull the trigger.
I perched myself up in a tree stand overlooking a massive river valley. This is the place where deer
come down and across in order to get to the fields for feeding. The towering tree stand soared over
many small trees. I glanced over the railing, looking down at the snowy forest floor many feet below.
It was a frightening height. Pull your gun up. I ll work my way back around to try and push some deer

Essay about The Harmful Effects of Second Hand Smoke
The Harmful Effects of Second Hand Smoke
An Australian courtroom, November 2002, has banned a mother of a ten year old boy from smoking in
her household (Watts). This is because of the numerous harmful effects that go along with second
hand smoke. The court was protecting the child from these dangers; the mother and grandfather both
admitted to smoking approximately 40 cigarettes everyday (Watts). The ruling was done by the anti
smoking lobby, and was a first for this type of case. The father of the boy brought this case to court
not only because of his concerns for his son, but also because of his son s complaints about the vast
amount of smoke which existed in his household. The boy also stated that he dreaded going ... Show

Children exposed to second hand smoke have a higher risk of developing diseases such as asthma,
bronchitis, ear infections, and allergies. For women, second hand smoke increases their risk of heart
attacks (Page). Many say that second hand smoke is more harmful than first hand smoke. This is
because only 15% of smoke is inhaled by smokers; the other 85% is in the air for nonsmokers to
inhale, whether they want to or not (Page). The dangers that result from second hand smoke include:
cancer, asthma, lung infections, emphysema, heart disease, pneumonia, ear infections, strokes, sinus
infections, nose ear and throat discomfort, nausea, headaches and dizziness. Twenty percent of the
population is at risk for obtaining lung disease due to second hand smoke, and for those who live with
a smoker, there is a thirty percent increase of getting lung cancer or heart attacks (Page). Nonsmokers
can even have carcinogens found in their blood. The bottom line remains: when somebody smokes,
everyone around is effected.
. There are two types of second hand smoke, both which cause dangers for those around them. These
types are mainstream smoke and sidestream smoke (Page). Mainstream smoke refers to the smoke
inhaled and exhaled by the smoker. This is most likely the most common type that people are exposed
to. The other type, sidestream smoke, is the smoke that comes from a cigarette or cigar burning from
an ashtray. This

Octavian and Marc Antony- The Duel of Words and Deeds
Octavian and Marc Antony The Duel of Words and Deeds Following the Julius Caesar s death at the
hands of the Senate, Octavian and Marc Antony propelled themselves to the pinnacle of Roman
power. First joining together during the Second Triumvirate, these men represented the true power
players of Roman politics. As their alliance fractured, both Romans resorted to propaganda to gain an
edge over the other. Through insulting the other and polishing their own image, both Antony and
Octavian looked to capture absolute Roman dominance. Even before their eventual war in 32 B.C.E.,
the men engaged in a duel of words in deeds. This paper will first overview the formation and
disintegration of Second Triumvirate between Marc Antony, Marcus Lepidus, and Octavian. Its main
portion will divulge the devious propaganda, leading up to the war in 32 B.C.E., used by Marc Antony
and Octavian to destroy the other politically. Plutarch s Antony and Suetonius The Lives of the
Caesars The Deified Augustus(De Vita Caesarum Divus Augustus) will serve as our main guide to this
war of image. After the assassination of Julius Caesar, Marc Antony, Marcus Lepidus, and Octavian
met in October 43 BC to join together, rule the entire government of Rome, and the control the Roman
provinces. In power, they were equal to the consuls and had the right to select magistrates. The
triumvirs mission, during their first five year term, can be broken down into three objectives: to pursue
and punish the

The Romantic Hero in Pechorin, Onegin, and the Demon Essay...
The Romantic Hero in Pechorin, Onegin, and the Demon
Through examining the works of Lermontov, A Hero of Our Time, and The Demon, as well as Pushkin
s Eugene Onegin, we can see the similarities between Pechorin, the Demon, and Onegin and how each
character embodies the qualities of the romantic hero. A romantic hero is a very contradicting
character. For example, in the History of Russian Literature by Charles A. Moser, he describes the
romantic hero as having the anguish of emptiness; the trembling anxieties of a shallow self love as
well as genuine power and courage; noble aspirations along with ignorance and poor upbringing
(137). All of the traits stated above are very conflicting. Pechorin, Onegin and the Demon, being the ...

Pechorin, being the tactless character he is, treats women as an incentive for endless conquests and
does not consider them worthy of any particular respect. He considers women, such as Princess Mary,
to be little more than a romantic game and they have no meaning to him. This is shown in his
comment on Princess Mary: I often wonder why I m trying so hard to win the love of a girl I have no
desire to seduce and whom I d never marry (Lermontov, 126). This quote is a perfect example of how
Pechorin can be extremely self serving and disregard the feelings of others. It also exemplifies his
inability to return to the strong feelings of love.
Toward the end of the novel we explore Pechorin s final adventures that lead to his downfall and
isolation from society, resulting in his death. It is in his final adventures that we see Pechorin take a
turn for the worse as he says, And perhaps tomorrow I ll die...so why bother to live (Lermontov 157).
In this passage it becomes clear as day that Pechorin has fallen into a deep depression. The constant
change in personality and character is the exact reason that explains how Pechorin is a perfect
example of the literary romantic hero.
Pechorin describes his own personality as self destructive, and he came to the realization that he doesn
t understand his purpose as he constantly questions why he is involved in many situations throughout
the novel. His boredom with life, and feeling of emptiness, gives him

  • 2. The Disappearance Of Childhood Analysis In the book, The Disappearance of Childhood, Postman s overall claim is that childhood is disappearing because children are able to get access to information about adult secrets. I agree with Postman s main argument; however, I disagree with some of his claims that he used to support the main argument. In chapter 1, Postman claimed that children who are participating in games such as Little League baseball and Pee Wee football are playing because they are pursuing reputation, not because they wanted to do something fun, or because they were pursuing pleasure. I disagree with Postman s claim since I believe in the exact opposite. I believe that for a child to play sports in their own time, they must first enjoy that sport. If a child doesn t like playing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is true for all sports. For an example, I m not an athletic person, and I dislike all sports. Since I don t find pleasure in playing sports, I don t want to do anything related to it, which includes joining any sport organizations. I had a classmate who loved baseball. He would have found great pleasure in joining Little League baseball because he loved the sport. I believe that the reputation the child gets from playing the sport is just something that is included. Postman claims that with adultified child , children who think and act similar to adults, and childfied adult , where adults think and act similar to children, children s and adults beliefs and characteristics are merging into one. This represents the disappearance of the generation gap, where everyone is in the same generation. In the beginning, I disagreed with his claim. I thought that the generation gap is still there. Children are growing up with technology. In this generation, a child as young as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is what one of the performers alluded to when the Costa Concordia capsizes which killed 32 people, costing more than 1 billion dollars. Micky Arison, a CEO and part owner of the Carnival has kept his lips closed and out of the presence of the media when one of his company ships sunk off the coast of Italy in 2012. (Terror At Sea Sinking of the Concordia [Motion picture]. (2012). At first blush, according to the case, Carnival s shares plummeted to 14% in the first day of trading in New York City after the accident, also wiping hundreds of millions of dollars off the net worth, making the stakeholders negatively impacted severely. (pg. 2, paragraph 19) However, some people would sway to the decision that the board of directors and stockholders were impacted in a positive light because of Arison s hiding behind the scenes during the cataclysmic ship wreck, it made the company and other cruise liners paid less attraction. By maintained a low public profile during the Costa Concordia crisis, Mr Arison and Carnival also might limit the focus on the parent company and its other cruise lines ( pg. 1, paragraph 9) It can also be debated that stock prices would have derailed further if Arison was prescence in the media. ... According to the text, the definition for social responsabity is a manager s duty to take actions that will benefit the interest of society as well as of the organization. (pg. 86, paragraph 1). With regard to Arison responding to Carnivel s internal and external stakeholder in a socially responsible manner some would speculate and say that he was saving himself in terms of avoiding the media and protecting his self image and the company reputation, rather than the outside ... • 4. The Cycle Of The Hydrologic Cycle The hydrologic cycle, also known as the water cycle, is a continuous rotation of water changing states through the Earth, ocean and atmosphere in a circulating system (Watts Forbes, 2011; US Department of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013). The water cycle alters throughout different locations due to weather patterns and climate around the world (Watts Forbes, 2011). The major processes that make up the hydrologic cycle are evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, and runoff, with many further processes as seen in Appendix 1.1 and simplified in Appendix 1.2. Evaporation Evaporation, in general, involves a substance changing its physical state from a liquid to a gas (US Department of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013; Northwest River Forecast Centre [NRFC], n.d). An example of this is when the body heats up during exercise or due to temperature, and releases sweat to try and cool down and producing water onto the skin (US Department of Commerce, n.d). Energy is required for evaporation to occur, and this energy source can come from the atmosphere, entities such humans, or in the case of the water cycle, the sun is the source of energy (US Department of Commerce, n.d). During the hydrologic cycle, evaporation occurs when the sun interacts with liquid water such has lakes and rivers, the ocean and soil, to cause water particles to become water vapour by heating the water (National Geographic Society, n.d; Miller Spoolman, ... They are more difficult to treat naturally and need careful treatment plan that can take over a year to see the result. This is usually caused by taking different vaccinations for a lengthy period of time, lengthy dependence on commercial pet food, and overuse of cortisone drugs to suppress pet symptoms. • 7. Jfk And The Space Race Essay JFK and the Space Race INTRO Before the causes and results of Kennedy s decision to land on the moon can be adequately analyzed and discussed, it is necessary to understand the context of his time as President and the events that preceded it. Therefore, I will provide a small amount of context about the Cold War and the situation leading up to Kennedy s We choose to go to the moon speech on September 12, 1962. (Citation). After the Second World War, the United States and the Soviet Union became embroiled in what is now known as the Cold War, this was both an international competition between two countries, and an ideological confrontation between capitalism and communism. This led to direct and indirect competition on many fronts, such as proxy wars and police actions, the Olympics, the Nuclear Arms Race, and the Space Race. (Citation). Although there is disagreement on the precise date that the Space Race began, the moment that it became an important competition that was in the forefront of the minds of everyday Americans is on April 12, 1961 when Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin orbited the earth in Vostok 1. (citation). This event created a feeling amongst the American public that the Russians were further ahead in science and technology than the United States, as well as the fear that the Soviets could use their superior technology to be better able to attack the USA from a distance. • 8. The Goodnight Inn s Strategy The GoodNight Inn s Strategy Abstract: Anton Cahoon is the manager of the motel GoodNight Inn. During the first two years of operation occupancy levels have remained far below average level for the motels classification. Therefore, he wants to make a change and explore opportunities to increase the occupancy levels and profitability. We will use the following framework to help analyze and evaluate the possible strategies Anton should follow, ultimately coming to a final marketing strategy and reasons for pursuing that strategy: Background: Customers: He currently does not focus on a target market, instead relying on people to find his motel as they head towards the tourist area. Company: From the aspect of the motel itself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this analysis we can conclude that the target market in which promotion should be aimed at is people who have higher incomes and thus able to afford the benefits of requiring additional facilities. We can also identify that they are longer staying visitors with quite a large percentage booking in advance; therefore tools such as a website would be necessary to attract them. Evaluation of Potential Strategies: Strategy 1: Make minor changes to the current operations. A few minor but potentially beneficial changes Anton could make to his business in terms of marketing strategy would be the use of more promotional materials and advertising signs. However this method, without the use of a website, can be seen as having little impact on attracting a wider customer range. Furthermore minor changes cannot solve the whole problem, therefore major changes such as the addition of a restaurant or recreational facilities can be seen as the best option to pursue higher revenue and sales. However it is not realistic for him to achieve this on his own without an established brand image such as Holiday Inn behind him. He himself lacks the experience and managerial skills of running a restaurant. If he did indeed include a restaurant in his hotel it would seem that he would have to employ a manager to run it, however the costs would outweigh the potential revenue earned. The function of the enzyme telomerase is when the enzyme extends the telomeres of the chromosomes. The enzyme is making the DNA using RNA as a template (Telomeres and Telomerase). The binding of the enzyme goes to a special RNA molecule to contain a sequencing which is complementary to the telomere repeat. It then extends an overhanging strand of the telomere DNA using the complementary RNA as a template. The overhang then becomes long enough, and the matching strand is made by a normal DNA replication. This finally produces a double stranded DNA. Cancer can begin with a cell. The telomeres ... Another thing to reach success is to focus on myself and not what is going on around me. When I was younger I only cared to hang out with friends. School was not important to me, mainly because everything felt too hard for me. Even though I have brothers, they weren t much of a help when it came to school. The story The Secret To Raising Smart Kids by Carol S. Dweck talked about two different mindsets people can have. One of them was a growth mindset and the other was a fixed mindset. To have a growth mindset is to know that your intelligence can be molded. To have a fixed mindset is to believe intelligence is something you are born with. I was always a students with a fixed mindset. They thought that a person with talent or intelligence did not need to work hard to do well. Attributing a bad grade to their own lack of ability, those with a fixed mindset said that they would study less in the future, try never to take that subject again and consider cheating on future tests. Yet, everyone in America still feels personally exempt from the media. They say, I don t pay attention to ads. I just tune them out. They have no effect on me. She later states most of the people who have said this to her were wearing Gap™ tee shirts. Whether people realize it or not, there is a direct correlation between the media and an individual s identity. We imitate practices displayed in the media, however licentious they may be and this changes our values and our self image, which changes our individual identity. The collective identity is also impacted because the media, in this scenario rap, changes our paradigms about the roles people play in a society. This is done in rap songs with the degrading of women and the encouragement of violence. As outlined here, media in the form of modern music or rap has a negative effect on a human beings collective and individual identity. Next I am going to talk about advertising focused on gender roles as a form of negative media. For women, the media is always focused on how they look. It constantly degrades women s self esteem by telling them to be skinny, vulnerable, powerless, and silenced. In addition, the media turns women into objects or things instead of beings, which encourages violence towards them. This teaches women it is okay for people to use them. According to a professor of law at Santa Clara University, Professor Alexander, the plea is only used one percent of the time, and works less than half the time it is used (Steibel). In cases where it is used, it tends to get a lot of attention from the media which provokes debate from the public (The Insanity). Critics have reservations concerning the exploitation of the plea, namely that the defendants will use to get shorter sentences or to evade a guilty verdict completely (The Insanity). However, according to a study done by the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the majority of those who are judged not guilty by reason of insanity do in fact suffer from a mental illness (The Insanity). History has shown us that we need the insanity defense because a person cannot be held responsible for their crimes if they do not have the mental capacity to understand what they have done wrong or cannot stop themselves from committing this crime, it would be unjust to punish someone who does not deserve it. The insanity defense is a plea from the defendant claiming he is not guilty as they do not have the mental capacity to appreciate what they have done wrong or comprehend the fact that they have committed a crime (Martin). According to Ross and Wu, people who are educated are less likely to smoke and drink, more likely to be physically active, and get regular health check ups (1995, p. 719). The article claims education is measured by surveying students and determining which grade level they are in. Education can also be measured by the highest degree or diploma obtained for those who have left school (Garcia McCarthy, p. 42). Measuring education using this method provides researchers with information regarding how many years of schooling people have received. This measurement is also seen in the study of Schneider. According to Schneider, the highest level of education successfully completed is either indicated by the highest educational qualification achieved or by the number of years of education or schooling completed (2011, p. 2). The information is obtained from surveys completed by respondents. This measure however, does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The article mentions an international comparison of socioeconomic differences in health. Most countries used education as means of measurement while other countries used occupation or income. • 17. Youth Violence Research Paper Back in the old days, violence was a seldom occurrence. As years passed, however, it became more and more common. In today s time, violence is just a part of everyday life and is happening among all age groups of people. Shockingly, the biggest spike in violence has happened among teenagers and young children. While there are many factors associated with this increase in youth violence, one of the biggest key components is that cartoons, such as Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, contain a lot more violence than they used to. Tom and Jerry is a very well known cartoon that has been around for a long time. Although most people probably see nothing wrong with the show, it is actually filled with all sorts of violence. In every episode of Tom and Jerry, Tom, the cat, tries to capture and eat Jerry, the mouse. As if that is not bad enough, the whole time that Tom is trying to get Jerry they are constantly beating and hitting each other. There are not many moments in any of the episodes where Tom and Jerry are not attempting to kill each other. In one particular show of Scooby Doo the group is trying to figure out who has been haunting a house. • 18. Evaluation of Erin Brockovich Leadership Essay It takes a very strong, dedicated leader to take the road less traveled by in order to stand behind what they believe is right or wrong. The easy route may seem more appealing to most because there is no challenge and you can almost always predict the outcome. Dr. Ronald W. Roskens, an internationally known and respected leader, gave a speech titled, Ethical Leaders: The Wide and Easy Way, and stated, Leaders can choose the easy way out, or they can attempt to apply ethics to their decisions and actions. True leaders are principled individuals, who assume their positions because they have earned the respect and, in certain sense, the allegiance of others. It is clear that Erin Brockovich contains all seven components of this model, which have clearly outlined her leadership development for the greater good. The steps in ethical decision making are as follows: 1. Stop and think, 2. Clarify goals, 3. Determine facts, 4. Develop Options, 5. Consider consequences, 6. Choose, 7. Monitor and modify (Josephson, 2002). These seven steps are shown in this short scene as well. First Erin thought of all of the possibilities. Then she realized that convincing Ed to expand the lawsuit is her goal. They determined the facts that it would be a hard case, PG E is a huge company, and they would need more evidence. After that, Erin stated the options to either let it go, knowing that PG E is poisoning and harming people or fight for justice. Ed stated that PG E could burry them in paperwork and appeals and put them in debt. Finally they chose to expand the lawsuit despite all the possible consequences. And then Ed proceeded to tell Erin to modify her research to prove PG E are aware that they were poisoning and harming people. There are six pillars of character that describe an ethical leader: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship (Josephson, 2002). Multiple sclerosis is a prolonged, progressive, wasting disorder of the Central Nervous System categorized by distributed demyelination of nerve fibers of the brain and spinal cord. The onset of MS is usually between 20 and 50 years of age, although it can occur in young teens and much older adults. Women are affected two of three times more often than men. When a person is diagnosed with MS, there is immediate impact on all who love them. Family members may experience similar emotions to the person with MS as they adapt to MS in their lives fear, guilt, anger, denial, grief, anxiety . The exact cause of MS is unknown. However, its pathogenesis is associated with irregular immune responses against CNS antigens, interference of the blood brain barrier (BBB) and trans endothelial migration of activated leukocytes, as well as chemokines and cytokines, from peripheral circulation to the CNS. In active disease, there appears to be ongoing inflammatory as well as neurodegenerative processes within the CNS atmosphere. The triggering event for the first attack of MS remains projected. It is assumed that genetic and environmental factors are involved in the progress of MS. (Borazanci, 2009, p. 2) Potential precipitating factors include infection, smoking, physical injury, emotional stress, excessive fatigue, pregnancy, and poor state of health. The role of triggering factors such exposure to pathogenic agents is controversial. The association with multiple sclerosis is possibly random and there probably is no cause and effect relationship. Our past militiamen and soldiers have gained us freedoms and homestead of our own religions, families, and the power to make our own decisions. Over the past few weeks I have read many different articles and a narrative by Fred Anderson, The war that made America. . Through all these things I ve come to see how big of an impact our armies have made past and present. The thing people don t take into consideration is that from the founding of Jamestown until 1785 the American colonial society was in a constant state of conflict. The United States is a land that was created through war. To end a war we must have a solid army to defend the things we want to achieve. Whether its freedom from our fathering country s or to show the power we have. Understanding how we have come to be from wars like the French and Indian war that sparked the beginning of the American revolution and the military culture and how the experience and significance of our country s soldiers and militia men compared and brings us to our American military culture and the value s of American thought, culture, and society. The linear inequality I will be solving is: a store faxes an order of 175 modern rocking chair and 125 classic rocking chair to Ozark Furniture and so will they be able to fill it. I will demonstrate my solution and include the mathematical work to solve it. I am going to use a graph, which I will not be able to attach to my document, but will show you how to use them and the findings. Inequality has been hard for me to understand but I hope for this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first quadrant of the graph was used so the shaded portion goes to the origin before it stops at the two axes. The point on the graph in the shaded area would be (50, 40). That would mean that 50 feet would be used for classic rockers and we would use 40 feet for the modern rocker that would be needed. So to see if the order could be filled we will plug them in to the equation: 15c (50) = 750c for classic 12m (40) = 480m which equals 750 + 480 = 1230. We can fill the order. Another point on the graph that is outside the shaded area would be (150, 100). 150 would be for the classic rocker and 100 for modern. Now, we plug them in to the equation to see if the order can be filled. 15c (150) = 2250 for classic 12m (100) = 1200 which equals 2250 + 1200 = 3450 which means the order can t be filled. Now if we use the point on the line we will have (124, 95). So 124 for the classic and 95 for the maple. Let plug them in the equation. 15c (124) = 1860 for classic. 12m (95) = 1140 which equals 1860 + 1128 = 3000, which means we will have enough to fill the order. Now to see if we can fill the order from the fax we have received. Which was 125 for the classic and 175 for modern. Analysis of the Themes in Fight Club Essay Analysis of the Themes in Fight Club It is easy to understand how and why many who view Fight Club (Fincher, 1999) would argue that is in essence a critique of post modern consumer culture within America or indeed the western world. After all we are faced with Character(s) Jack (Edward Norton) who seems to gain no cultural sustenance from the world in which he inhabits. More over it seems to do him harm in the form of insomnia. One of the key issues which Giroux raises is that Fight Club tries to suggest consumerism has destabilized masculinity in effect masculinity has been emasculated. However the film does not seem to concern itself with any details regarding this process of consumerism in terms of economics or practical application. In this respect it is very vague, using what could easily be described as sound bites especially from Tyler to fill the gap where debate could be. Fight Club largely ignores issues surrounding the break up of labour unions, the slashing of the U.S. workforce, extensive plant closings, downsizing, outsourcing, the elimination of the welfare state, the attack on people of colour and growing disparities between rich and poor. (Giroux, 2000:8). Fight Club seems content to portray consumerism as an all encompassing continuum, which only those who are prepared to understand the world through binary acts of violence and sabotage will be able to negate. This notion is problematic in itself as it implies that everybody within the western world is blind to consumerism. But also the Character of Tyler who Jill Nelmes in Film Studies An ... The Romantic Hero in Pechorin, Onegin, and the Demon Through examining the works of Lermontov, A Hero of Our Time, and The Demon, as well as Pushkin s Eugene Onegin, we can see the similarities between Pechorin, the Demon, and Onegin and how each character embodies the qualities of the romantic hero. A romantic hero is a very contradicting character. For example, in the History of Russian Literature by Charles A. Moser, he describes the romantic hero as having the anguish of emptiness; the trembling anxieties of a shallow self love as well as genuine power and courage; noble aspirations along with ignorance and poor upbringing (137). Pechorin, being the tactless character he is, treats women as an incentive for endless conquests and does not consider them worthy of any particular respect. He considers women, such as Princess Mary, to be little more than a romantic game and they have no meaning to him. This is shown in his comment on Princess Mary: I often wonder why I m trying so hard to win the love of a girl I have no desire to seduce and whom I d never marry (Lermontov, 126). This quote is a perfect example of how Pechorin can be extremely self serving and disregard the feelings of others. It also exemplifies his inability to return to the strong feelings of love. Toward the end of the novel we explore Pechorin s final adventures that lead to his downfall and isolation from society, resulting in his death. It is in his final adventures that we see Pechorin take a turn for the worse as he says, And perhaps tomorrow I ll die...so why bother to live (Lermontov 157). In this passage it becomes clear as day that Pechorin has fallen into a deep depression. The constant change in personality and character is the exact reason that explains how Pechorin is a perfect example of the literary romantic hero.
