Cooperative Learning And Cooperative Learning
I believe every learner is exceptional and gains knowledge in their own unique way. Well, one
learner may learn best visually, another may learn best kinesthetically and then another may learn
best verbally. Therefore, you shouldn t restrict yourself to teaching in just one way either. It is
imperative that you approach a concept in various ways and give the learner several opportunities
to explore the concept. I believe that the student should take ownership in the learningprocess and
the teacher should be a facilitator of knowledgein the classroom. Therefore, the teacher should
assist the learner to their highest potential and encourage them along the way and give them
prompt feedback. Learners should collaborate together to build upon their prior knowledge and
share their ideas and hypothesizes on various concepts. I believe the learner should be evaluated on
a competence based model.
A cognitivism theory that aligns with my belief statement is cooperative learning. Cooperative
learning is where students work in small groups on a common task or project while the teacher
acts as a facilitator (Coffey, 2017). In my belief statement I stated, learners should collaborate
together and build upon their prior knowledge, this is the core of cooperative learning.
A behaviorist theory that would coincide with my beliefs in prompt feedback. Behaviorist believe
in conditioning and rely completely on reinforcement (Weibell, 2011). The experimenter or teacher

Structuralism In Coach Carter
Structuralism is a philosophy that views society as composed of structures such as class and race
that shape our lives, making it challenging for all individuals to have access to equal opportunities.
Thus, it is focused on exposing these structures and investigating power, who has it, who doesn t
and what we can do to change this often by way of advocacy, actions, and campaigns, strive for
social change (J. Poole, personal communication, September 13, 2017).
Coach Carter is a sports drama based on a real life experience of a former Richmond High alumni
and basketball coach, Ken Carter, who became known in 1999 for benching his entire basketball
team, undefeated until that point for poor academic standing. It is though this film, but ... Show

Without picking sides as to whether power is used to the benefit or disadvantage of students,
Coach Carter can be using his legitimate or socially prescribed power over his students to force
the cancellation of practice and the forfeiting of games (group dynamics). Yet, while Carter has
power over his players in this way, power is completed. Thus, individuals such as the school s
principle or the schools committee board members then have legitimate power over him as
demonstrated by their power to end the lockout. Adding to complicated nature of power, illustrated
nicely by the film, power may be to benefit or disadvantage a community, and to further complicate
the matter such is often determined or influenced by the perception of the individual(s) holding
power.
One of the ways in which structuralists look to repair and/or bring attention to the imbalance of
power in society is through campaigns, social justice, actions and social change. Similarly, I
believe it is through an approach of advocacy and social change that the Coach not only looks to
instill a sense of belief and discipline in his players, but most importantly looked to change the
narrative against the kids of Richmond High School. A narrative made clear through sediments such
as that made by Principle Garrison, who at the beginning of the lockout states, ...so you take away
basketball, the one area in their lives where

CHAPTER 2: THE TIME VALUE OF MONEY
This chapter consists of five sections: the first section explains the time value of money and the
factors that affect the time value of money; The second part will help to distinguish the types of
cash flow; The next two sections will discuss how to determine the present value and the future
value of cash flows; The final section will guide on how to plan an amortized loan.
Before we start, we need to clarify a problem together, which is why we have to study the chapter;
in other words, why financial managers must understand the time value of money?
In fact, whether they are individuals or companies, most financial decisions are associated with the
time value of money. Besides, the objective of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the 10th year, the amount accumulated will be:
P10 = 10 (1 + 10 x 0,08) = 18 million
Generally: Pn = Po [ 1 + (i) x (n) ]
In which: Pn: accumulation of a loan at the end of period n. Po: Principals i: interest rate n: number
of time periods.
Compound interest is interest that is paid not only on the principal but also on any interest earned
but not withdrawn during earlier periods. This happens when interest is earned on the interest
earned in prior periods.
Returning to the example above, you put 10 million in an account with compounding interest rate
of 8% / year. After 10 years, how much money do you have? (including principal and interest)
After the first year, the amount accrued is:
P1 = 10 + 10 x 0,08 = 10 (1 +0,08) = 10,8 million
After the second year, the amount accrued is:
P2 = 10 (1+0,08) + 10(1 + 0,08) x 0,08 = 10 (1 + 0,08)(1 + 0,08) = 10 (1 + 0,08)2 = 11,664 million
After the third year, the amount accrued is:
P3 = 10 (1 + 0,08)2 + 10 (1 + 0,08)2 x 0,08 = 10 (1 + 0,08)2(1 + 0,08) = 10 (1 + 0,08)3 = 12,597

The Field Of Radiology For Medical Schools
The field of radiology is one that is intertwined with many other medical fields. Doctors in
radiology or Radiologist as they are commonly known have the necessity to communicate with
other care providers in order to provide adequate care. Doctors in radiology are essential to many
other aspects of medicineand as a result this is the career field I want to pursue upon graduation. I
will be reviewing this profession in many aspects such as duties, educational requirements, and the
field in general. Doctors in radiology are more in tuned with what is known as diagnostic medicine.
Doctor in radiology is a subfield of medicine that takes many years to acquire. The educational
requirements for a Radiologist is extensive like many other medical degree. In order to pursue a
Doctor in Radiology degree one must first obtain a Bachelors degree and meet the prerequisites
for the medical program you are applying to. Prerequisites for medical schools vary across the
nation specially between schools. However, according to the association of American Medical
Colleges or AAMC, an individual must complete at least one year per each of the following course:
biology, physics, and English (Admission Requirements). Furthermore, the AAMC states that a
candidate must also have two years of chemistry courses, which includes general and organic
chemistry (Admission Requirements). An individual must also take a standardize exam prior to
applying to medical school (Admission Requirements). The

Markup Language is a Program Used During Web Design
A Markup Language or ML can be defined as the programming language that is used during web
design or development to create or build a website. (Kyrnin, J. 2 December 2011, What are
Markup Languages?). In the INFO101 course here at Victoria University of Wellington we are
required to familiarise ourselves with two specific markup languages: Hyper Text Markup
Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). (School of Information Management,
VUW, March 2014, Part One Introduction to HTML and Basic Formatting). It is also important to
note that there are many different variations of markup languages in operation. Additional ones
worth mention include: Extensible Markup Language (XML), Standard Generalised Markup
Language (SGML) and Extensible Hyper Text Markup Language (XHTML). (Kyrnin, J. 2
December 2011, What are Markup Languages?). I will focus primarily on HTML, as it is the
central focus of our first workshop assignment. In a nutshell, a markup language annotates text so
as to allow the computer to manipulate that text. (Kyrnin, J. 2 December 2011, What are Markup
Languages?). This process is achieved via the use of sets of tags or elements (which are essentially
distinct arrangements of characters). Tags can be implanted in digital text to provide supplementary
information about the text in order to facilitate automated processing of it; this may include
formatting and editing for display or even printing. (The Linux Information Project, 13 December

Disarmament, Demobilization, And Reintegration Of Rebel...
Tori Topic B: Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration of Rebel Groups in Latin America
Less than eight percent of the global population resides in Latin America and the Caribbean, yet
approximately thirty three percent of the world s homicides occur in this region (Watts). More
than 60,000 people have been killed by Drug Trafficking Organizations alone over the past 10
years, and more than 26,000 have gone missing (Morris). Jordan recognizes that a significant
portion of the homicides in Latin America stem from the actions of rebel groups and, as a firm
supporter of peace, urges the international community to address the issue through Disarmament,
Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR). To do so, the global community must shape the
effectiveness and improvement of DDR, as well as specific types of rebel groups such as gangs and
drug cartels. Jordan believes that by addressing these issues, the international community can assist
Latin America in the restriction of the influence and proliferation of rebel groups.
Although Jordan is not in close proximity with Latin America, it is invested in the issue, as the
nation itself is affected by rebel groups in the Middle East. Jordan does not currently have a
presence in Latin America concerning DDR, however, it is experienced with the concept within
its own region, specifically concerning Syria and Turkey (Piro). Jordan has a moderating effect on
rebel groups in much of the Middle East, and is a supporter of free syrian

Islam s Influences on the Modern World
The modern world is a mixing pot of different cultures and influences intertwining and overlapping.
The impact of one culture on another can be seen clearly in contemporary Europe, which lays
adjacent to Asia. Over time, European culture has evolved and assimilated with the incorporation of
surrounding influences. Western civilisation has taken inspiration in the innovations and
discoveries of great eastern empires such as the Greek, Roman and Byzantine. Arguably one of the
most influential and historically significant empires to the development of Europeis the Islamic.
Islamdirectly translates to submission . It is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion, as well as an
empire, (which is focused in the Middle Eastand Northern Africa). Islam is currently the second
most practiced religion globally. Throughout the Middles ages and the centuries leading up to them
Islam was one of few lifestyles which encouraged culture, art and an open state of mind, making it a
perfect breeding ground for scientific advancement and progression of the arts. Islam has shared
some of the greatest discoveries and revolutions of the pre modern age, all of which have
undoubtedly assisted in the construction of the western world we inhabit. One essential tool
Muslims (those devoted to Islam) have helped develop is mathematics. Algebra is the branch of
mathematics including equation solving and the use of variables to represent the unknown in
formulae, and the study/representation of relationships

Airplane Of Hope Speech
Airplane of Hope
Dear Mr.Hawkins , my former, history teacher, I know you are set in your idea that the destruction
of the Berlin Wall was the turning point of WWll, I strongly disagree. Even though there were
significant, life changing, humanitarian efforts made by the U.S, the Berlin Airlift was one of the
greatest of these efforts. This was one of the strongest humanitarian efforts made because America
supplied food for the starving people of West Berlin, granted them the gift of hope when there was
nothing left to hope for, and assisted every step of the way until the terrible separation between
East Berlin and West Berlin. When the Soviets took their share of Germany with France, Britain,
and the U.S., the Soviets made the choice to separate Germany into eastern and western divisions.
This was done so that they could extend communism into a war torn Europe. After World War
Two, there wouldn t have been any better timing. The war gave them an open door to start
communism all over again because no one would ve been able to stop whatever came in their path.
The events leading to the Airlift began with Russia s iron fist and persistence to conquer
everything. The Russians prayed that the poverty and a war torn Western Europe would give them
the chance to spread communism into the western half of Europe (Griffin). In the beginning, a plan
which was filled with solely hope in the beginning, slowly unraveled in front of the world s eyes as
a nightmare. The Russian

A New Kind of Science
Professor Neil Leach
October 29, 2016 Chapters 11 and 12 (pages 637 to 844)
In this book, Stephen Wolfram develops A New Kind of Science that allows progress to be made
in cases where traditional science cannot analyze complex behaviors. In his proposal for this new
kind of science one of the things he addresses is the notion of computation, where computation is
the evolution of a system. In this book, Wolfram has mentioned and referred to systems such as
cellular automata as a simple computer program , but his overall goal is to show these systems in
terms of the computations that can perform complex shapes with a simple set of rules. In other
words, these systems can be viewed as performing a computation that determines what its future
behavior will be. The interesting thing is that cellular automata has terms of traditional
mathematical notions to describe certain computations. Stephen reintroduces these mathematical
notions by replacing them with squares (cells) that are either black or white, and when grouped,
these cells create a block. Once multiple blocks are created, they are described as rules that
enhances a command. For example, the rule 94 highlights even numbers. Rule 62 corresponds to
multiples of 3, rule 190 to multiples of 4 and rule 129 highlights powers of 2.
Now, there are computations that are more complex that do not correspond to any simple
description found in traditional

How Does Depression Affect Emily Dickinson s Poetry
Throughout time we have seen many plenty of geniuses who suffered from mental conditions,
especially depression. Some examples include Beethoven, Edgar Allan Poe, and Van Gogh. Another
is Emily Dickinson, undoubtedly one of the most influential poets in American history. Her
emotional poetry with its unconventional style changed poetryforever. However, it seems such
genius did not come without a price. Biographical and physiatrist evidence, as well as subtleties in
her poetry, show that she was mentally unstable. It is generally thought that she suffered
depression, severe anxiety, agoraphobia, or some combination of the three at different times.
Perhaps one of the most important perspectives to examine Dickinson from is that of Thomas
Wentworth Higginson. Higginson, a prominent figure in literature at the time, received his first
letter from Dickinson on April 16, 1862. The letter contained four poems and a request for criticism.
Higginson was intrigued by the raw, unconventional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

extremely faint and pattering footstep like that of a child . When he first sees her, he describes
her as small, shy, and plain; except for her eyes and hair. Her shyness aside, her physical
appearance seems to be a stark contrast to her raw, vibrant poetry. While he doesn t mention it
specifically, I think Higginson picked up on her mental state. He talks about how, with some
prodding, she began talking and thenceforth continued almost constantly . He specifically
mentioned that it seemed like she talked almost for her own sake. This definitely sounds like a
symptom of her condition. Was she so lonely that just talking with another person was a relief? If
so, then how much did Higginson s opinion mean to her if she came to meet him when she
remained isolated from even her

The Catcher In The Rye By J. D Salinger
The Catcher in the Rye written by J. D. Salinger is a book written in 1951. IT is considered to be

Hernan Cortez Accomplishments
Did you know that past explorers were known to travel for riches and fame? They just wanted to
be known, and be able to say they were there, and seen many things; or the accomplishments they
have made. For instance, Hernan Cortez was born in 1485 in Medellin, Spain. He was a Spanish
conquistador who defeated the Aztec Empire and claimed Mexicofor Spain. He also studied at the
university of Salamanca. In 1504, he traveled to Santo Domingo and settled in a town called
Azua and served as a notary. In 1515, he joined the expedition of Cuba led by Diego Velazquez and
served as the mayor of Santiago. In 1518, he set sail to Mexico with eleven ships and five hundred
men. By 1519, he reached the Mexican coast.
Some hardships Cortez faced included him becoming allies with natives, and others. he used
deadly force to conquer Mexico. He fought Tiaxacan and Cholula warriors. He marched to
Tenochtitlan and captured the ruler Montezuma II., although , he had to leave because the Spanish
troops were coming to arrest him for disobeying orders. But he did return later because the
Spanish was set out by the Aztecs. In 1515, he conquered the Aztecs and King Charles appointed
him to be the governor of New Spain. Some interesting facts about Hernan Cortez was that after he
conquered the Aztecs, his authority and position was questioned, and they also formed a rebellion
against him. Between 1540 1547, he spent time being recognized for his achievements, and support
from the Spanish royal courts. Unlike modern day explorers like Neil Armstrong who studies
science and have passion for things in space.
Neil Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio on August 5, 1930. Neil Armstrong was the first
man to walk on the moon. After serving as naval aviator from 1949 to 1952 he joined the National
Advisory Committee Aeronautics (NACA) in 1955. His first assignment was with NACA Lewis
research center (NASA) in Cleveland. Over the next 17 years he was an engineer, test pilot,
astronaut and administrator for NACA and its successor agency, the national aeronautics and space
administration (NASA). Neil Armstrong became an astronaut in 1962. He was assigned a

16.2 Describe the main phases involved database design.
Database design is made up of three main phases: logical and physical database design.
Conceptual database design: the process of constructing a model of the data used in an enterprise,
independent of all physical consideration. It begin with creating conceptual data model for the
enterprise that is entirely independent of implementation details.
Logical database design is the process of constructing a model of the data used in a company
based on a specific data model, but independent of a particular DBMS and other physical
considerations.
In the logical database design phase we build the logical representation of the database, which
includes identification of the important entities and relationships, and then translate this
representation to a set of tables. The logical data model is a source of information for the physical
design phase, providing the physical database designer with a vehicle for making tradeoffs that are
very important to the design of an efficient database.
Physical database design is the process of producing a description of the implementation of the
database on secondary storage; it describes the base tables, file organizations, and indexes used to
achieve efficient access to the data, and any

Key Leadership Skills
There are a variety of leadership models which emphasize key leadership skills. Some of the best
models are designed for specific organizations because it is usually difficult to describe key
leadership skills with a broad brush. However, there are some fundamental skills that all great
leaders share in common regardless of the type of group that they are leading. Whether you are
leading a commercial enterprise or a nonprofit organization, or if you are an elected leader in
government, these are five key leadershipskills that you must master:
Strategic Thinking: Leaders must be able to think strategically. This is a complex skillset that

Once they have formulated a vision, then they must be able to communicate it. The best leaders
not only communicate the facts, but do it in an inspiring way. They are able to persuade their
followers that they will be able to lead them to a better place. If a leader can t communicate
effectively, then he or she will be ineffective as a leader.
Political Savvy: Political savvy is a skill that leaders use to assess the needs of the various
stakeholder groups within their organization. They are also good at recognizing who represents
these groups as key subordinate leaders within their organization. Using their political skills, great
leaders are able to build coalitions by common cause among the key stakeholders. If a leader is
unable to build collation, they will find it very difficult to move ahead with their agenda.
Resilience: Resilience is the skill that leaders need to overcome obstacles. No matter what agenda
or vision the leader may want to pursue, it is always the case that they will run into road blocks on
their journey. Resilience is the skill that leaders use to circumvent the road blocks and continue
their journey. They focus on what they can do to solve the problem rather than blame others or

Disagreements and angry remarks spring up. Don t talk to me like that. Your trouble is you ve

The Historical Context Of The Saint Bartholomew s Day...
In a private correspondence from George Washington to Irish politician Edward Newenham, the
president responded to Newenham s description of the violence between Catholics and Protestants
in 1792 by stating that, Of all the animosities which have existed among mankind, those which are
caused by a difference of sentiments in religion appear to be the most inveterate and distressing, and
ought most to be deprecated. Two hundred and twenty two years before Washington penned those
words, those deep rooted and disturbing resentments between Catholics and Protestants brought
about a massacre of thousands of Protestant victims in the Paris, its neighboring urban centers, as
well as in the countryside on 24 August 1572. The Saint Bartholomew s Day Massacre was one of
the bloodiest events in early modern French History, and initiated an intensified and bloodier period
in the War of Religion. This paper will analyze testimonies from Catholic and Huguenot viewpoints
by looking at the massacre s historical context, the massacre itself, as well as its importance to the
Reformation. By presenting information from primary and secondary sources, this paper looks to
examine the massacre and the Catholic Church s culpability, and whether the leaders within the
Church could have prevented the slaying of thousands of innocents or simply nurtured longstanding
resentments in order to eliminate their religious opposition. To fully comprehend the enormity of

A Different History and Where I Come from Essay
Elizabeth Brewster and Sujata Bhatt both suggest the significance of place in helping to shape a
person s identity in their poems but they do it in different ways.
Brewster suggests that places change our identity when she writes People are made of places .
This shows that every different place we visit we take the memories and experiences that we had
there and keep them in our minds and hearts forever. Whereas Bhatt suggests that when we go to a
new place we forget who we previously were and change ourselves so that we fit in with the new
culture that we are living in. We know this from when she says And how does it happen/ that after
the torture . This shows the struggle to keep your cultural heritage when you move places.

In Where I Come From Brewster uses the metaphor ice and the breaking of ice . This is to show
that even though you are in a different place than you are used to you are ready to break the ice
when meeting new people and having new experiences. Bhatt suggests that you bring the
conventions to the country you move to from your old country and then you add to them from
the things you learn in the new culture that you are living in. We know this because she says
Great Pan is not dead . This also shows that your cultural heritage will never die as it will always be
a part of you whether it s obvious or not.
Elizabeth Brewster suggests that places change our identities when she says nature tidily plotted
in little squares . This gives us the impression that everyone in the city is the same and they are
all neat and tidy busybodies. This differs from what Bhatt suggests when she says Here, the gods
roam freely, / disguised as snakes or monkeys . This shows that in India you can be whoever or
whatever you want without being judged by anyone and you can be unique.
However A Different History is similar to what Brewster is suggesting as Bhatt writes every tree is
sacred . This shows that everything and everyone is equal and has the same rights as each other.
Brewster shows that in her homeland everything is different because there are, battered

Intro to Contemporary Society
To ask any person what family means in contemporary society is to take a glimpse into the
multitude of terms describing family forms, that is; household, couple family, nuclear family,
extended family, single parent family, blended families and stepfamilies (Germov amp; Poole,
2007). Therefore regardless of how a familyis structured an integral component that each one of
these families has is the role they play in the socialisation process. That is, every person s life
from the time they are born till the time they pass will be encompassed with acquiring what is their
cultural norms, values, beliefs, attitudes and language (Gecas, 2001, p. 2855). In doing so the
individuals self and personality will be formed and moulded.

2856). In addition, support and control from families are the most powerful models of influence
in the socialisation process. Children who are continually supported by their family through the
progression of significant life stages are found to present encouraging cognitive development,
moral behaviour, positive self esteem, academic achievement and social competence (Rollins
amp; Thomas, 1979, p. 41). Conversely, where there is a lack of family support children may
display negative outcomes. Rollins and Thomas (1979) suggest low self esteem, delinquency,
deviance, drug use, and various other problem behaviours (p. 42). Also, parental control is just
as important as support in the socialisation process. Just like support, the level of control families
exercise forms of punishment, discipline, supervision, strictness and monitoring can lead to
positive or negative developmental and behavioural outcomes for the child. A significant
behaviour that is discovered in the family context is what it means to be a boy or girl. This
process takes place when the families we exist in condition our behaviours by treating boys and
girls in accordance with social expectations (Holmes, 200, p. 43). Children quickly learn how men
and women are expected to behave, even if those close to them do not always behave according to
those expectations (Holmes, 2007, p. 43). The socialisation experience of girls across

Aldi Store Analysis
On Friday after class, I went to the ALDI store in Anderson to make a purchase and to get some
observations. I ended up buying some Kraft cheese and FitoBit water. The water was some kind
of fitness water with low sodium; it didn t taste so well. I ve never been nor shopped out of
ALDI so this definitely was an eye opener to me. As I walked in, I noticed the store was very
small and cluttered. Everything was stacked on top of each other and very close with barely any
walking space. There were no aisles to designate you to your product. You simply had to keep
walking around to find what you need; it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. As I can
continue to walk through out the store, I noticed some designs on packages that looked similar
to Chips Ahoy, but it was not that brand. It was a lower level brand with a similar design. They
even had packages that look like it could be Oreos, Quakers, Kraft and more. The name of the
brand that ALDI have mainly in its stores is Benton s . There is another brand that I noticed

The Apartheid Of The South African Apartheid Essay
Introduction
Canada s Apartheid which can also be known as Canada s Indian Act of 1876. This system of
racial intolerance inspired the South Africa s oppressive regime and lead way to the better
known Apartheid in South Africa. However, since the South African Apartheid was based on our
model shouldn t it simply be known as The Apartheid ? It is interesting to note the varying global
images each of these tragic systems have had. As a student, born and raised in Canada, it is deeply
troubling that I first learned about the South African Apartheid before I learned about Canada s. It
is therefore, fascinating to see how the South African Apartheid created a global awareness and
gained support against the system of segregation while the Indian Act opponents where silenced
and the world failed to notice. Both political systems of discrimination where based on race, both
had detrimental compounded effects on current and succeeding generations. While all groups of
race where segregated, not all groups where segregated evenly. Throughout this paper I will be
looking to examine the similarities between the Coloured group of the Apartheid and the Metis
Nation of the Indian Act.
South Africa s Apartheid
Segregation between white and black long preceded the apartheid, however, this remained the prime
objective in the creation of the apartheid state. This system created a racial hierarchy which started

Analysis Of Paul Laurence Dunbar s Sympathy Essay
Paul Laurence Dunbar was an African American writer who lived during the late 1800s. This
tumultuous time period was filled with racism that limited the freedom and the voice of African
Americans everywhere. This racism existed not only in the day to day lives of African
Americans, but also in the sphere of literature and, thus, severely impacted Dunbar s life.
Sympathy , published in 1899, is a poem that addresses the difference in treatment of white
Americans and African Americans as well as African Americans desire for freedom from both a
personal standpoint as a writer and also as a public figure speaking on behalf of the African
Americancommunity.
Sympathy is a reflection of Dunbar s own struggle as an African American poet during the late
19th century. During this time, African Americans were judged as socially and economically
inferior and lacking the tools of upward class mobility: proper English speech, literacy, and a
Western education (Roman 33). This view of African Americans was translated into the literary
field by the leading elite literary figure William Dean Howells, who believed that dialect poetry
was the only form of authentic and proper African America speech (Roman 33). Howells beliefs
led to editors choosing to only publish dialect poetry which forced Dunbar to discontinue writing
in his preferred literary style of Standard English. In this way, the editors became the cage that held
the bird. Dunbar contrasts the idea of the caged bird

Walter Mitty Identity
Both The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Lamb to the Slaughter analyze human s ways of
achieving self acceptance. Walter Mitty s persona is not considered appropriate by people around
him, so as a result, he daydreams to accept his true character. On the contrary, Mary Maloney s self
love is built upon the presence of her husband, so when he decided to leave, her whole world
shattered.
In The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, James Thurber explores the topic of self acceptance through
the protagonist s daydreams, to demonstrate the strategy of accepting oneself through fantasies
when society s values oppose one s behavior. In Lamb to the Slaughter , Mary Maloney s
dependence on Patrick for happiness implies that one often relies heavily on others in order to
attain self acceptance and adopt a socially fitting identity.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty presents us with a character who finds his escape through fantasies
to suggest that when one s unable to stand up against harassers, imagination and dreams will
nourish confidence and self image. For instance, at the end of the story, Walter Mitty s use of the

Introduction
Chemical equilibrium is defined as a state in which the rate of the forward reaction equals the rate
of the backward reaction [1]. Equilibrium constant, defined as a number that expresses the
relationship between the amounts of products and reactants present at equilibrium in a reversible
chemical reaction at a given temperature [2]. The equilibrium constant, Keq, was found by
multiplying the products concentrations, then dividing it by the equilibrium concentrations product
of the reactant. Small Keq values means that the reaction does not fully go to completion. When
looking at a large Keq value, the reaction entirely goes to completion therefore ... Show more

b is the cuvette s length also known as the pathlength and it is 1cm. E is also a constant which
means there is a relationship between absorbance and concentration. Moreover, Le Chatelier s
principle needs to be brought up again in order to account for an off Keq value. This could be due
to not adding enough of the reactant ion which did not allow the reaction to be driven completely.

Comparing Socrates Apology And Phaedo

Paper One
Contemplating Death
Both philosophers and non philosophers stand on a level of equality with respect to death. There
are no experts on death, for there is nothing to know about it. Even those who study the death
process have no edge on the rest of us. We are all equals in thinking about death, and we all begin
and end thinking about it from a position of ignorance. One trouble with discussing this topic is
the instinctive fear of death. We tend to avoid death in our thoughts and actions. However, if we
could forget our fears for a minute, we could see more clearly how interesting the concept actually
is from a more detached point of view. One of the most interesting views on death comes from an
ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates. In the texts that are going to be analyzed in this essay,
Apology and Phaedo, are the retellings of words and thoughts of Socrates by Plato, a pupil and
admirer of Socrates. Both texts lecture about the topic of death and though both are the thoughts of
Socrates at different times of his life, they have similar and contrasting views on the outlook of
death.
The Apology is the most authentic account that has been preserved of Socrates defense of himself
as it was presented before the Athenian Council. Socrates accusers are poets, craftsmen, politicians
and orators who accuse him of corrupting the youth by making them lose confidence in the
government that has jurisdiction over them. Socrates speaks

The Centralization And Development Of Urbanization In Africa
Africa is a rapidly urbanizing continent, experiencing tremendous growth and transformation with
an increasing concentration of cities. Today, it boasts a greater number of urban dwellers than
Europe, Australia, North or South America. However, situations were not always so promising.
The arrival of imperialism and the start of colonial rule in the 19th century served to exploit the
growth of physical, economic, and human resources of a flourishing Africato benefit European
powers. By setting severe economic and social restrictions on things such as trade and education,
the Europeans developed a colonized state which arrested all other natural development of the
African system. Nonetheless, during the approximately five and half decades after independence,
citizens began to slowly migrate to city hubs around the continent as various countries like Ethiopia
and Tanzania developed socially and politically. This movement from rural to urban, a typical
mobility characteristic of Africa, resulted in an expansion of leadership, institutions, and technical
domains such design and finance. Urbanization has thus played a significant role in the
development of factors including gender, inequality, and economic growth, as well as downturn.
However, it has presented both opportunities and challenges which, in turn, have impacted the state
of cities in modern day Africa.
Since 1960, African cities have been growing fast, more so than the population. A direct result of
this rapid urbanization has been the growth of opportunities for people seeking a better,
comfortable life with their transition out of rural settings. For decades, this increased centralization
has brought various cultures, perspectives, and talents together in an effort to place Africa on the
global, economic scale. However, a drastic consequence of the growth of cities has been an
increased inequality amongst its members, both economically and in terms of the standard of
living. Income inequality creates a significant discrepancy between the rich and the poor. Whereas
large manufacturers enjoy wealth through their involvement in an export oriented economy, laborers
work through grueling hours in tiring conditions to earn minimum wage which can barely

Comparing Odyssey And Perseus Of Homer s Odyssey
If I were to summarize Clash of the Titans, it would be that Perseus, son of Zeus, watched his
entire family die as a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, as a result of which he
pursues the gorgon medusa in order to use her head to defeat the kraken. My summery of the
Greek version would be that, Perseus; son of Zeus was cast out on the ocean with his mother in
a trunk. After being discovered by a fisherman, Perseus grows up accepting his godly half, goes
after medusa to save his mother s marriage. In the process he saves a women who soon became
his wife using the head of the gorgon, Medusa. Though the story and movie were from very
different time periods there are still several similarities. Several similarities between the movie and
Greek version include, Perseus saved a women using the head of the then slain gorgon medusa.
Another similarity would be that he and his mother were found in the ocean floating in a trunk in
both versions. Yet another similarity between the versions would be that, Perseus refuses to live on
Olympus with his father. In both versions, the reason for the princess being sacrificed, result from
the queen insulting the beauty of the goddess Aphrodite. Another big similarity between both
versions would be that Perseus unknowingly fulfilled a prophecy.... Show more content on

Hip Hop s Negative Influence On Teen Decision-Making
Hip Hop changes lives, but not the way you are told to believe. The media false advertises that
music is the main stimulus for bad decision making and ultimately for violence. Teens are
influenced by many different factors with each factor dictating a percentage of their decision
making. Majority of the time these factors are unavoidable. Factors such as environment, family,
and music are key to the teens decision making. Hip hop is believed to have a huge negative
impact on teens decision making and we are to blame for this false allegation. In the 1980s inner
cities were filled with the notorious crack epidemic and they experienced poverty on a larger scale
than ever before. President Ronald Reagan cut down on social services benefiting people in low

Frank O Connor s Guests of the Nation is an ironic and tragic short story of two Englishmen who
are held captive as collateral during the Irish War of Independence. Belcher and Hawkins are
friendly hostages they frequently argue, play cards, and discuss politics and religion with their
Irish captors, Bonaparte and Noble. They behave as if they are unaware of the armed conflict that
surrounds them. The shooting of Belcher is climactic in that O Connor forces the reader to consider
the main theme: in war, everybody has to do his or her duty, so Bonaparte and Noble are unable to
prioritize their friendship. Frank O Connor condemns the concept of nationalism expressing a
camaraderie among the characters preceding the Englishmen s deaths to help them to cope with an
adverse situation that is foreign to all of them. CHANGE THESIS! But how...
In the heat of a war, one would anticipate animosity or turmoil between the nations, not card
games and banter about the afterlife and about capitalism. Instead, the four soldiers coexist
peacefully, possess similar ideas regarding the war, and even consider each other chums.
Excluding Donovan, the men share a common preconception towards nationalism; the hostages
final moments include a plea for life right before Hawkins is shot, he says to Bonaparte: You won t
come over to my side, so I ll come over to your side. Is that fair? (O Connor 3).

How Does Salt Concentration Affect The Rate Of Osmosis In...
In this experiment I am looking at what the effect of various salt concentrations will have on the
rate of osmosis in potatoes. Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a high water
potential to a low water potential through a semi permeable membrane. All cells have semi
permeable membranes which means that it only allows certain substances in and out of the cell.
Many factors effect the rate of osmosis, this includes temperature and the amount of salt added.
I think that when the potatoe is placed in a salt concentration where the water potential is greater
the potatoe molecules will move from the potatoe to the salt and a decrease in the mass will
happen. The more salt there is in the water the fresher the potatoe will stay. The... Show more

There are 3 different types of osmosis, they are called hypertonic, hypotonic and isotonic.
Hypertonic is when water spreads out of the cell, making the cell shrink. Hypotonic is when
water moves into the cell causing the cell to swell or burst. Isotonic allows water to go in and
out of the cell but the cell does not shrink nor swell or burst. Pros and cons around osmosis: The
pros around osmosis are the water is outstanding and very clean, it is at a very low cost, the
water tastes better therefore you would want water instead of cola and food tastes much better.
The cons around osmosis are the clogging in the taps, filter replacement and it is a very slow

Abstract
Most firm valuation models start with the after tax operating income as a measure of the operating
income on a firm and reduce it by the reinvestment rate to arrive at the free cash flow to the firm.
Implicitly, we assume that the operating expenses do not include any financing expenses (such as
interest expense on debt). While this assumption, for the most part, is true, there is a significant
exception. When a firm leases an asset, the accounting treatment of the expense depends upon
whether it is categorized as an operating or a capital lease. Operating lease expenses are ... Show

These leases are called combination leases. Accounting For Leases The effects of leasing an asset
on accounting statements will depend on how the lease is categorized by the Internal Revenue
Service (for tax purposes) and by generally accepted accounting standards (for measurement
purposes). Since leasing an asset rather than buying it substitutes lease payments as a tax deduction
for the payments that would have been claimed as tax deductions by the firm if had owned the asset
(depreciation and interest expenses on debt), the IRS is wary of lease arrangements designed
purely to
speed up tax deductions. Some of the issues the IRS considers in deciding whether lease
payments are tax deductible include the following: Are the lease payments on the asset spread
out over the life of the asset or are they accelerated over a much shorter period? Can the lessee
continue to use the asset after the life of the lease at preferential rates or nominal amounts? Can
the lessee buy the asset at the end of the life of the lease at a price well below market? If lease
payments are made over a period much shorter than the asset s life and the lessee is allowed either
to continue leasing the asset at a nominal amount or to buy the asset at a price below market, the
IRS may view

How Does Wheatley Brought From African American
On Being Brought from Africa by Phillis Wheatley (1753 1784): Wheatley was purchased, living
as a domestic slave in a wealthy Boston household. Where her masters taught her how to read and
write. Wheatley exhibited amazing talent, that even her own poetry was published. Wheatley
became famous but was still remained a slave.
At this point Phillis Wheatley is not an African American, she is a slave, a slave that talks about
being a slave to her masters. Wheatley talks about how she was captured and brought to America
as she is grateful of some of the benefits of it like different language and culture but is aware that
she see herself the way her masters sees her: quoting Remember, Christians, Negros, black as Cain,

Social Factors And Social Causes Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution was mainly the result of social causes. In the 18th century, the social
classes were categorized as the First Estate, consisting of the clergy; the Second Estate, consisting
of the aristocracy; and finally the Third Estate, including every remaining citizen; from the
bourgeoisie (merchants, lawyers, businessmen) all the way to the poor peasants of the land. All
the members of the first two estates were privileged in law and taxation. Moreover, there was
virtually no way to move up the social ladder unless you were born into it, consequently, raising
anger among the bourgeoisiesince, despite their equivalence in wealth as certain nobles, they still
had lower living conditions than the first two estates and were considered the minority.
The bourgeoisie s (middle class) ambition was a major contributor of the French Revolution. This
close contact of the bourgeoisie with less educated members of the Third Estate enabled them to
provide the real leadership of the Revolution when it came... (Truman et al, 131) The middle class
made up the larger half of the Third Estate. Since the peasants weren t organized enough to form
their own assembly, or begin a revolution, the bourgeoisie guided the Third Estate, eventually
forming the National Assembly, and pushed them to act against the higher levels of society. ...it
was through them, by mouth, that the radical views of the philosophes spread down through the
population. (Truman et al, 131) The bourgeoisie

Trailer Case Summary
Trailer 1 did a decent job with loading the livestock and transporting them, but that is about as far
as the credit goes. Loading cattle at night in cool temperatures helped to keep the cattle calm
while loading, and the load density was of an appropriate level. The non slip flooring and
bedding helped the livestock move around the trailer and stay dry. The notes left do not
describe the temperature in Fargo, ND, so it is challenging to assess if the non covered slats are
an issue that could cause concern. Cattle can handle cooler temperatures better than other
animals, but covered slats would be needed if transport occurred during a cold winter month as
North Dakota experiences rather harsh winters. Failure to add covered slats to the trailer on a
long drive like this could lead to potential frostbite on the animals hide. The driver arrived just
prior to the afternoon shift change, so the livestock waited 45 minutes to be unloaded from the
trailer, which is not of concern. When the livestock were being unloaded, 15 of the 40 animals fell,
which is a serous welfare... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that the workers, and the truck driver, used prods on all the animals is a serious welfare
issue. I am surprised that the driver was allowed to get out of his/her truck. Most packing plants
prohibit this, but no information was given that elicited to the company s policy on this issue. I
believe that this packing plant should fail their audit solely for the fact that the workers used
electric prods on each and every animal that exited the trailer. The workers mentioned that it was
against the packing plant s policy to use electric prods, but chose to use the prods anyway. This
shows me that the plant has either failed in properly training their employees on how to properly
unload livestock, or that the workers at the plant are negligent to the policies implemented and need
to be dismissed from their

The Role Of Absenteeism Within Female Staff Essay
This paper is going to focus on the main factors that cause and influence absenteeism within female
staff specifically within Not Well Women ltd and how this compares to male staff. The review of
this literature in this paper leads to two research questions (1) what factors cause the greatest
amount of absenteeism of femaleworkers? (2) What factors seems to cause the decreased amount of
absenteeism for maleworkers?
This review sets out to explore the answer to the question of how we ESTABLISING A
SOLUTION TO REDUCE ABSENTEEEISM RATES FOR FEMALE STAFF WITHIN NOT
WELL WOMEN LTD. Absenteeism is an issue that affects all organisations around the world.
According to Störmer and Fahr (2010) The impact of absenteeism on firms or even a nation s
economy is enormous, taking account of the costs associated with it. For this reason alone a lot of
organisations and governments spend a lot of time investigating the problems and effects of
absenteeism and how it can be reduced. Although when you look into absenteeism you see that
absence is not purely a medical condition (Barmby, Ercolani and Treble 2002).
Whitaker (2001) states that sickness is a complex phenomenon that is influenced strongly by factors
other than health and when looking into absenteeism you cannot only look at the physical sickness
side of things but need to look in depth to many other issues such as stress, work satisfaction, family
deaths, family sickness and children dependency. We see that many of theses

How Beastly The Bourgeois, By D. H. Lawrence
In the poem, How Beastly the Bourgeois is written by D.H. Lawrence. The author uses a speaker
who describes his disgust of the Bourgeois (the character) in the poem. Lawrence has the speaker
use figurative language and rhetorical devices to express the disgust the speaker has of
Bourgeois. Lawrence uses repetition, scientific diction, rhetorical questions, simile,
defamiliarization, anaphora and a conceit to show the disgust towards the character in the poem.
The ways the author uses literary works describes the Bourgeois using satire so it decreases the
characters pride and presumption. Satire is when you use sarcasm, humor, or exaggeration to
criticizes people s lives, in the way they work, how they look, and how they speak or live to make...

A conceit is an extended metaphor. The conceit begins when the speaker uses the metaphor,
Nicely groomed, like a mushroom standing there so sleek and erect and eyeable (Line 21). The
speaker begins by saying that the character is handsome and great looking but by comparing him
to a mushroom makes the Bourgeois gross because he is talking about a poisonous mushroom
that people may think looks good on the outside but on the inside it is rotten. Then Lawrence
continues to add to the metaphor by having the speaker state, and like a fungus, living on the
remains of bygone life sucking his life out of the dead leaves (Lines 23/24). Lawrence extends
the metaphor and compares the Bourgeois to fungus. The speaker believes he is disgusting
because fungi hold bacteria and also suck life out of dead leaves. Sucking life out of dead leaves
compares to the Bourgeois being lazy and not working to earn his own money, instead he is taking
the money from either his dead parents or relatives. The author then extends the metaphor even
longer by having the speaker announce, he s stale, he s been there too long (Line 25). Lawrence
compares him to something that is hard or gross to eat which shows the reader that the man is
disgusting because any human wants to eat something stale or distasteful. The bourgeois is also
compared to a fungi which is disgusting because it is parasitic. The quote, just

Controversia Conversion Therapy Research Paper
Conversion therapy goes by many names, such as reparative therapy, Sexual Orientation Change
Efforts (SOCE), and ex gay therapy, but all are geared towards the same end result: to eradicate
homosexuality as a whole, even if it may be completely natural to the individual. Despite the
common belief, homosexuality is not an illness. In fact, it was declassified as a mental illness
from the ICD 10 in 1973. However, there are several organizations dedicated to the very purpose
of treating it as one. While it may seem like an antiquated topic, the issue is still being debated and
even encouraged to this day, despite its lacking ethical standing.
Conversion therapy s core beliefs are deeply rooted in outdated, obsolete, and unfounded ideals. In
the past, the institutionalization of the LGBT+ people has been underrepresented, despite how ...

The stigma that those in the community are viewed as child molesters and inherently predatory
only manages to perpetuate negative stereotypes. Instead of attempting to classify and treat
homosexuality as a mental disorder, what should be focused on is the effect such a stigmatization
could have on the patient. In fact, LGBT+ youth are at a much higher risk of suicide, depression,
and anxiety. According to a study entitled: Sex of Sexual Contacts, and Health Risk Behaviors
Among Students in Grades 9 12: Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance, 80% more of those who
experience same sex attraction and 100% more of bisexual people have attempted suicide when

Historical Perspective in the Essays of Susan Griffin,...
Historical Perspective in the Essays of Susan Griffin, Richard Rodriguez, and Ralph Ellison (Our
Secret, Extravagance of Laughter, The Achievement of Desire)
Susan Griffin s Our Secret is an essay in which she carefully constructs and describes history,
particularly World War II, through the lives of several different people. Taken from her book A
Chorus of Stones, her concepts may at first be difficult to grasp; however David Bartholomae and
Anthony Petrosky say that, Griffin writes about the past how we can know it, what its relation to
the present, why we should care. In the way she writes, she is also making an argument about how
we can know and understand the past...
Griffin strikes all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her personal history, she describes her life, and her childhood, which intertwines with her family
history. However, she not only talks about her histories, she talks about the histories of the other
characters in the essay to bring across the larger world history. One of the technique s that Griffin
uses to help the audience understand her concepts, is explaining two other story lines while
telling her main story. The first one is a description of a cell. Throughout the essay, italicized
sentences explaining the intricacies of a cell are placed seemingly randomly between passages.
The description begins with a nucleus, and as the story progresses, so does the nucleus. Griffin
tells what happens to the nucleus, and how the inner workings of the nucleus develops into a cell,
which gives rise to many cells, which will eventually become an embryo. He other story line, also
italicized sentences, goes through the making and beginning of missiles. Later in the essay, Griffin
explains how the one missile develops into a bigger and more effective missile.
These separate story lines are placed within the story to explain that everyone has a background,
and a past. The background and past are factors in developing the present and future; and certain
characters in the story had a tendency to try to forget their past, not realizing that there is no escape
from it.
Griffin illustrates this technique most vividly with

Cahokian Chief Research Paper
The Cahokian Chief is a ruler of our Mississippian civilization. The political structure that
Cahokia operates under is a chiefdom in which the chief is a hereditary leader over a group of
towns. Chiefdoms are based on the communal culture of gift giving and commercial links and
trade routes and this is what supports our city. The chief has the most power over us he controls
our land and economy and the rest of us are considered subordinate to our chief. A part of the
chief s job is to organize us through different obligations such as tribute, shared labor, and rituals.
We tend to the fertile land, which provides us with an abundance of maize, beans, and squash.
The land is so fertile along the Mississippian river where we live; we attribute the abundance of
maize to our corn goddess. The agriculture we tend to is delivered to the chief and to neighboring
communities whether it is a gift or a debt. The chief is so powerful that most of the communities
nearby tend to owe our chief tribute or to pay off a debt.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

passage of the sun over the course of the year. Other spiritual aspects we are guided by include
the four directions. We practice a spiral snake dance, and it is related to the changing seasons or
solstices. The chief is the closest to the gods because he lives atop of the mounds in a temple,
which is a testimony to his power over us as well as the respect we have for him as the most
powerful and elite member of Cahokia. Separate from the elite, the rest of us live in wooden huts

Song et al. (2013) developed a practical model evaluate the environmental effectiveness of ITS
strategies by using data from PEMS. The models are developed through considering the influence
of the vehicle s operating mode (VSP distribution) on vehicle emissions, which not only guarantees
the accuracy of emissions and fuel consumption models, but also makes it possible to accumulate
current traffic information systems in Beijing. Wang et al. (2008) established a model based on
VSP and speed, which provided insight that how different levels of cruise speed and acceleration
affect vehicle fuel consumption. The model prediction shows that vehicle fuel consumption per
unit distance is optimum at speeds between 50 and 70 km/h which is similar to the observed data
from PEMS. This is evident in the literature that in order to improve both the applicability and
accuracy of the existing emission models instantaneous vehicle activity data are needed which can
be collected from the on board emission system like PEMS to consider all real conditions which
might induce the modeling errors and improve the model precisions.
In summary, the microscopic simulation modeling has provided an accurate and reliable
representation of vehicular operations in roadway networks so far in the literature. From the
literature we also found that, most of the vehicle emissions data used in modeling are collected in a
controlled laboratory environment or simulation based. With

Love and Lust in Love s Labours Lost
Love is a familiar. Love is a devil. There is no evil angel but Love. (Love s Labours Lost. 1.2.) This
Shakespearean quote relies on the fact that love can lead to many misfortunes, presented as one
of the aspects of love in both William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream , and Wole
Soyinka s The Lion and the Jewel . One aspect of lovedemonstrates its brilliant sides, and with it,
brings affection, faith, and intimacy. However, it is also noted that an equal aspect of love conveys
the consequences and misfortunes, the negative connotations of love, which the essay will be

The most apparent is the approach of manipulation: Oberon uses the magic of the flower s juice,
while Baroka uses cunning and experience from his previous adventures to lure Sidi. Additionally,
they differ in another way as Oberon used manipulation as means of torture, while Baroka utilized
it for the seduction of Sidi. Nonetheless, both plays relate to manipulation as it is used for the
advantages of the schemer, but is unrelated as by the method of how it is used.
Finally, both plays are incomplete without another significance of love, and that is hatred, and
roots in both plays from the fact that there were two men competing for the love of a female, and
the opposing men share the hatred between each other. In A Midsummer Night s Dream, after
the love potion was mistakenly applied to an additional male, the two men, Lysander and
Demetrius both constantly bicker and fight for Helena: Where is Demetrius? Oh, how fit a word
/Is that vile name to perish on my sword! (Lysander, 2.2.112 113) In The Lion and the Jewel, the
village chief, Baroka, and the young schoolteacher, Lakunle, both share a similar struggle the war
for Sidi s love and Lakunle frequently insult(s) the Bale. (Willis) The distinctions, however, lay on
the end result and as to how the hatred was resolved. Firstly, in A Midsummer Night s Dream, the
hatred was garnered

The Lady s Not For Turning
To those waiting with bated breath for that favorite media catchphrase, the U turn, I have only
one thing to say: You turn if you want to. The lady s not for turning. Margaret Thatcher at the
1980 Conservative Party Conference in Brighton Britain emerged as one of the victors of World
War II and became a founding member of the United Nations with a permanent seat on the
Security Council. However, it lost the title of global superpower, easily demonstrated by the
Indian movement for independence, and the botched attempt to occupy the Suez Canal. Massive
war debts, lack of economic productivity, and high spending, accruable to the demise of the
British Empire, created problems for all new government administrations . When Margaret
Thatcher took office in 1979, she became the first female prime minister and the first female
head of state in the Western world. Guided by her political philosophies, she sought to fix the
problems that Britain faced. In doing so, she forever changed the face of the United Kingdom.

Examples Of Dark Humor In Slaughterhouse Five
Slaughterhouse Five (1969) is Kurt Vonnegut s book on what he feels is one of the most
important events in his entire life: the bombing of Dresden. Though throughout history many
refer to this action taken by the U.S. Army as a successful mission to fight against the Germans

of war. He even states And what do the birds say? All there is to say about a massacre, things like

The placement of jokes and humorous events in a novel with such dark subject matter allows for

example is when a sniper misses Billy s head and he stands still to give him a second shot Get out

  • 2. Cooperative Learning And Cooperative Learning I believe every learner is exceptional and gains knowledge in their own unique way. Well, one learner may learn best visually, another may learn best kinesthetically and then another may learn best verbally. Therefore, you shouldn t restrict yourself to teaching in just one way either. It is imperative that you approach a concept in various ways and give the learner several opportunities to explore the concept. I believe that the student should take ownership in the learningprocess and the teacher should be a facilitator of knowledgein the classroom. Therefore, the teacher should assist the learner to their highest potential and encourage them along the way and give them prompt feedback. Learners should collaborate together to build upon their prior knowledge and share their ideas and hypothesizes on various concepts. I believe the learner should be evaluated on a competence based model. A cognitivism theory that aligns with my belief statement is cooperative learning. Cooperative learning is where students work in small groups on a common task or project while the teacher acts as a facilitator (Coffey, 2017). In my belief statement I stated, learners should collaborate together and build upon their prior knowledge, this is the core of cooperative learning. A behaviorist theory that would coincide with my beliefs in prompt feedback. Behaviorist believe in conditioning and rely completely on reinforcement (Weibell, 2011). • 3. Structuralism In Coach Carter Structuralism is a philosophy that views society as composed of structures such as class and race that shape our lives, making it challenging for all individuals to have access to equal opportunities. Thus, it is focused on exposing these structures and investigating power, who has it, who doesn t and what we can do to change this often by way of advocacy, actions, and campaigns, strive for social change (J. Poole, personal communication, September 13, 2017). Coach Carter is a sports drama based on a real life experience of a former Richmond High alumni and basketball coach, Ken Carter, who became known in 1999 for benching his entire basketball team, undefeated until that point for poor academic standing. It is though this film, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without picking sides as to whether power is used to the benefit or disadvantage of students, Coach Carter can be using his legitimate or socially prescribed power over his students to force the cancellation of practice and the forfeiting of games (group dynamics). Yet, while Carter has power over his players in this way, power is completed. Thus, individuals such as the school s principle or the schools committee board members then have legitimate power over him as demonstrated by their power to end the lockout. Adding to complicated nature of power, illustrated nicely by the film, power may be to benefit or disadvantage a community, and to further complicate the matter such is often determined or influenced by the perception of the individual(s) holding power. One of the ways in which structuralists look to repair and/or bring attention to the imbalance of power in society is through campaigns, social justice, actions and social change. Similarly, I believe it is through an approach of advocacy and social change that the Coach not only looks to instill a sense of belief and discipline in his players, but most importantly looked to change the narrative against the kids of Richmond High School. A narrative made clear through sediments such as that made by Principle Garrison, who at the beginning of the lockout states, ...so you take away basketball, the one area in their lives where ... Po: Principals i: interest rate n: number of time periods. Compound interest is interest that is paid not only on the principal but also on any interest earned but not withdrawn during earlier periods. This happens when interest is earned on the interest earned in prior periods. Returning to the example above, you put 10 million in an account with compounding interest rate of 8% / year. Doctors in radiology or Radiologist as they are commonly known have the necessity to communicate with other care providers in order to provide adequate care. Doctors in radiology are essential to many other aspects of medicineand as a result this is the career field I want to pursue upon graduation. I will be reviewing this profession in many aspects such as duties, educational requirements, and the field in general. Doctors in radiology are more in tuned with what is known as diagnostic medicine. Doctor in radiology is a subfield of medicine that takes many years to acquire. • 7. Markup Language is a Program Used During Web Design A Markup Language or ML can be defined as the programming language that is used during web design or development to create or build a website. (Kyrnin, J. 2 December 2011, What are Markup Languages?). In the INFO101 course here at Victoria University of Wellington we are required to familiarise ourselves with two specific markup languages: Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). (School of Information Management, VUW, March 2014, Part One Introduction to HTML and Basic Formatting). It is also important to note that there are many different variations of markup languages in operation. Additional ones worth mention include: Extensible Markup Language (XML), Standard Generalised Markup Language (SGML) and Extensible Hyper Text Markup Language (XHTML). (Kyrnin, J. 2 December 2011, What are Markup Languages?). I will focus primarily on HTML, as it is the central focus of our first workshop assignment. In a nutshell, a markup language annotates text so as to allow the computer to manipulate that text. (Kyrnin, J. 2 December 2011, What are Markup Languages?). This process is achieved via the use of sets of tags or elements (which are essentially distinct arrangements of characters). Tags can be implanted in digital text to provide supplementary information about the text in order to facilitate automated processing of it; this may include formatting and editing for display or even printing. • 8. Disarmament, Demobilization, And Reintegration Of Rebel... Tori Topic B: Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration of Rebel Groups in Latin America Less than eight percent of the global population resides in Latin America and the Caribbean, yet approximately thirty three percent of the world s homicides occur in this region (Watts). More than 60,000 people have been killed by Drug Trafficking Organizations alone over the past 10 years, and more than 26,000 have gone missing (Morris). Jordan recognizes that a significant portion of the homicides in Latin America stem from the actions of rebel groups and, as a firm supporter of peace, urges the international community to address the issue through Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR). To do so, the global community must shape the effectiveness and improvement of DDR, as well as specific types of rebel groups such as gangs and drug cartels. Jordan believes that by addressing these issues, the international community can assist Latin America in the restriction of the influence and proliferation of rebel groups. Although Jordan is not in close proximity with Latin America, it is invested in the issue, as the nation itself is affected by rebel groups in the Middle East. Jordan does not currently have a presence in Latin America concerning DDR, however, it is experienced with the concept within its own region, specifically concerning Syria and Turkey (Piro). • 9. Islam s Influences on the Modern World The modern world is a mixing pot of different cultures and influences intertwining and overlapping. The impact of one culture on another can be seen clearly in contemporary Europe, which lays adjacent to Asia. Over time, European culture has evolved and assimilated with the incorporation of surrounding influences. Western civilisation has taken inspiration in the innovations and discoveries of great eastern empires such as the Greek, Roman and Byzantine. Arguably one of the most influential and historically significant empires to the development of Europeis the Islamic. Islamdirectly translates to submission . It is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion, as well as an empire, (which is focused in the Middle Eastand Northern Africa). Islam is currently the second most practiced religion globally. Throughout the Middles ages and the centuries leading up to them Islam was one of few lifestyles which encouraged culture, art and an open state of mind, making it a perfect breeding ground for scientific advancement and progression of the arts. Islam has shared some of the greatest discoveries and revolutions of the pre modern age, all of which have undoubtedly assisted in the construction of the western world we inhabit. One essential tool Muslims (those devoted to Islam) have helped develop is mathematics. Algebra is the branch of mathematics including equation solving and the use of variables to represent the unknown in formulae, and the study/representation of relationships ... Airplane Of Hope Speech Airplane of Hope Dear Mr.Hawkins , my former, history teacher, I know you are set in your idea that the destruction of the Berlin Wall was the turning point of WWll, I strongly disagree. Even though there were significant, life changing, humanitarian efforts made by the U.S, the Berlin Airlift was one of the greatest of these efforts. This was one of the strongest humanitarian efforts made because America supplied food for the starving people of West Berlin, granted them the gift of hope when there was nothing left to hope for, and assisted every step of the way until the terrible separation between East Berlin and West Berlin. When the Soviets took their share of Germany with France, Britain, and the U.S., the Soviets made the choice to separate Germany into eastern and western divisions. This was done so that they could extend communism into a war torn Europe. After World War Two, there wouldn t have been any better timing. The war gave them an open door to start communism all over again because no one would ve been able to stop whatever came in their path. The events leading to the Airlift began with Russia s iron fist and persistence to conquer everything. The Russians prayed that the poverty and a war torn Western Europe would give them the chance to spread communism into the western half of Europe (Griffin). In the beginning, a plan which was filled with solely hope in the beginning, slowly unraveled in front of the world s eyes as a nightmare. The Russian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his proposal for this new kind of science one of the things he addresses is the notion of computation, where computation is the evolution of a system. In this book, Wolfram has mentioned and referred to systems such as cellular automata as a simple computer program , but his overall goal is to show these systems in terms of the computations that can perform complex shapes with a simple set of rules. In other words, these systems can be viewed as performing a computation that determines what its future behavior will be. The interesting thing is that cellular automata has terms of traditional mathematical notions to describe certain computations. Stephen reintroduces these mathematical notions by replacing them with squares (cells) that are either black or white, and when grouped, these cells create a block. Once multiple blocks are created, they are described as rules that enhances a command. For example, the rule 94 highlights even numbers. Rule 62 corresponds to multiples of 3, rule 190 to multiples of 4 and rule 129 highlights powers of 2. Now, there are computations that are more complex that do not correspond to any simple description found in traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. How Does Depression Affect Emily Dickinson s Poetry Throughout time we have seen many plenty of geniuses who suffered from mental conditions, especially depression. Some examples include Beethoven, Edgar Allan Poe, and Van Gogh. Another is Emily Dickinson, undoubtedly one of the most influential poets in American history. Her emotional poetry with its unconventional style changed poetryforever. However, it seems such genius did not come without a price. Biographical and physiatrist evidence, as well as subtleties in her poetry, show that she was mentally unstable. It is generally thought that she suffered depression, severe anxiety, agoraphobia, or some combination of the three at different times. Perhaps one of the most important perspectives to examine Dickinson from is that of Thomas Wentworth Higginson. Higginson, a prominent figure in literature at the time, received his first letter from Dickinson on April 16, 1862. The letter contained four poems and a request for criticism. He talks about how, with some prodding, she began talking and thenceforth continued almost constantly . He specifically mentioned that it seemed like she talked almost for her own sake. This definitely sounds like a symptom of her condition. Was she so lonely that just talking with another person was a relief? Children who are continually supported by their family through the progression of significant life stages are found to present encouraging cognitive development, moral behaviour, positive self esteem, academic achievement and social competence (Rollins amp; Thomas, 1979, p. 41). Conversely, where there is a lack of family support children may display negative outcomes. Rollins and Thomas (1979) suggest low self esteem, delinquency, deviance, drug use, and various other problem behaviours (p. 42). • 30. Analysis Of Paul Laurence Dunbar s Sympathy Essay Paul Laurence Dunbar was an African American writer who lived during the late 1800s. This tumultuous time period was filled with racism that limited the freedom and the voice of African Americans everywhere. This racism existed not only in the day to day lives of African Americans, but also in the sphere of literature and, thus, severely impacted Dunbar s life. Sympathy , published in 1899, is a poem that addresses the difference in treatment of white Americans and African Americans as well as African Americans desire for freedom from both a personal standpoint as a writer and also as a public figure speaking on behalf of the African Americancommunity. Sympathy is a reflection of Dunbar s own struggle as an African American poet during the late 19th century. During this time, African Americans were judged as socially and economically inferior and lacking the tools of upward class mobility: proper English speech, literacy, and a Western education (Roman 33). This view of African Americans was translated into the literary field by the leading elite literary figure William Dean Howells, who believed that dialect poetry was the only form of authentic and proper African America speech (Roman 33). Howells beliefs led to editors choosing to only publish dialect poetry which forced Dunbar to discontinue writing in his preferred literary style of Standard English. In The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, James Thurber explores the topic of self acceptance through the protagonist s daydreams, to demonstrate the strategy of accepting oneself through fantasies when society s values oppose one s behavior. In Lamb to the Slaughter , Mary Maloney s dependence on Patrick for happiness implies that one often relies heavily on others in order to attain self acceptance and adopt a socially fitting identity. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty presents us with a character who finds his escape through fantasies to suggest that when one s unable to stand up against harassers, imagination and dreams will nourish confidence and self image. Equilibrium constant, defined as a number that expresses the relationship between the amounts of products and reactants present at equilibrium in a reversible chemical reaction at a given temperature [2]. The equilibrium constant, Keq, was found by multiplying the products concentrations, then dividing it by the equilibrium concentrations product of the reactant. • 33. Comparing Socrates Apology And Phaedo Riya Roy HON 105 Will McNeil 04/15/14 Paper One Contemplating Death Both philosophers and non philosophers stand on a level of equality with respect to death. There are no experts on death, for there is nothing to know about it. Even those who study the death process have no edge on the rest of us. We are all equals in thinking about death, and we all begin and end thinking about it from a position of ignorance. One trouble with discussing this topic is the instinctive fear of death. We tend to avoid death in our thoughts and actions. However, if we could forget our fears for a minute, we could see more clearly how interesting the concept actually is from a more detached point of view. One of the most interesting views on death comes from an ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates. In the texts that are going to be analyzed in this essay, Apology and Phaedo, are the retellings of words and thoughts of Socrates by Plato, a pupil and admirer of Socrates. Both texts lecture about the topic of death and though both are the thoughts of Socrates at different times of his life, they have similar and contrasting views on the outlook of death. The Apology is the most authentic account that has been preserved of Socrates defense of himself as it was presented before the Athenian Council. Socrates accusers are poets, craftsmen, politicians and orators who accuse him of corrupting the youth by making them lose confidence in the government that has jurisdiction over them. The Centralization And Development Of Urbanization In Africa Africa is a rapidly urbanizing continent, experiencing tremendous growth and transformation with an increasing concentration of cities. Today, it boasts a greater number of urban dwellers than Europe, Australia, North or South America. However, situations were not always so promising. The arrival of imperialism and the start of colonial rule in the 19th century served to exploit the growth of physical, economic, and human resources of a flourishing Africato benefit European powers. By setting severe economic and social restrictions on things such as trade and education, the Europeans developed a colonized state which arrested all other natural development of the African system. Nonetheless, during the approximately five and half decades after independence, citizens began to slowly migrate to city hubs around the continent as various countries like Ethiopia and Tanzania developed socially and politically. This movement from rural to urban, a typical mobility characteristic of Africa, resulted in an expansion of leadership, institutions, and technical domains such design and finance. Urbanization has thus played a significant role in the development of factors including gender, inequality, and economic growth, as well as downturn. However, it has presented both opportunities and challenges which, in turn, have impacted the state of cities in modern day Africa. Since 1960, African cities have been growing fast, more so than the population. A direct result of this rapid urbanization has been the growth of opportunities for people seeking a better, comfortable life with their transition out of rural settings. For decades, this increased centralization has brought various cultures, perspectives, and talents together in an effort to place Africa on the global, economic scale. However, a drastic consequence of the growth of cities has been an increased inequality amongst its members, both economically and in terms of the standard of living. Income inequality creates a significant discrepancy between the rich and the poor. Analysis Of Guests Of The Nation Kathleen Meserve Mr. Dalvet AP Literature and Composition 10 / 25 / 2017 CREATIVE TITLE Frank O Connor s Guests of the Nation is an ironic and tragic short story of two Englishmen who are held captive as collateral during the Irish War of Independence. Belcher and Hawkins are friendly hostages they frequently argue, play cards, and discuss politics and religion with their Irish captors, Bonaparte and Noble. They behave as if they are unaware of the armed conflict that surrounds them. The shooting of Belcher is climactic in that O Connor forces the reader to consider the main theme: in war, everybody has to do his or her duty, so Bonaparte and Noble are unable to prioritize their friendship. Frank O Connor condemns the concept of nationalism expressing a camaraderie among the characters preceding the Englishmen s deaths to help them to cope with an adverse situation that is foreign to all of them. Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a high water potential to a low water potential through a semi permeable membrane. All cells have semi permeable membranes which means that it only allows certain substances in and out of the cell. Many factors effect the rate of osmosis, this includes temperature and the amount of salt added. I think that when the potatoe is placed in a salt concentration where the water potential is greater the potatoe molecules will move from the potatoe to the salt and a decrease in the mass will happen. Damodaran on Capital and Operating Leases Dealing with Operating Leases in Valuation Aswath Damodaran Stern School of Business 44 West Fourth Street New York, NY 10012 adamodar@stern.nyu.edu Abstract Most firm valuation models start with the after tax operating income as a measure of the operating income on a firm and reduce it by the reinvestment rate to arrive at the free cash flow to the firm. Implicitly, we assume that the operating expenses do not include any financing expenses (such as interest expense on debt). While this assumption, for the most part, is true, there is a significant exception. When a firm leases an asset, the accounting treatment of the expense depends upon whether it is categorized as an operating or a capital lease. Operating lease expenses are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These leases are called combination leases. Accounting For Leases The effects of leasing an asset on accounting statements will depend on how the lease is categorized by the Internal Revenue Service (for tax purposes) and by generally accepted accounting standards (for measurement purposes). Since leasing an asset rather than buying it substitutes lease payments as a tax deduction for the payments that would have been claimed as tax deductions by the firm if had owned the asset (depreciation and interest expenses on debt), the IRS is wary of lease arrangements designed purely to speed up tax deductions. Some of the issues the IRS considers in deciding whether lease payments are tax deductible include the following: Are the lease payments on the asset spread out over the life of the asset or are they accelerated over a much shorter period? Can the lessee continue to use the asset after the life of the lease at preferential rates or nominal amounts? Can the lessee buy the asset at the end of the life of the lease at a price well below market? The non slip flooring and bedding helped the livestock move around the trailer and stay dry. The notes left do not describe the temperature in Fargo, ND, so it is challenging to assess if the non covered slats are an issue that could cause concern. Cattle can handle cooler temperatures better than other animals, but covered slats would be needed if transport occurred during a cold winter month as North Dakota experiences rather harsh winters. Failure to add covered slats to the trailer on a long drive like this could lead to potential frostbite on the animals hide. Throughout the essay, italicized sentences explaining the intricacies of a cell are placed seemingly randomly between passages. The description begins with a nucleus, and as the story progresses, so does the nucleus. The estimation methodology based on OpMode bin provided far more dynamic and accurate environmental information compared to static emission inventory estimation models. The OpMode bin emission rates for each vehicletechnology in the MOVES default database represent a base... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Song et al. (2013) developed a practical model evaluate the environmental effectiveness of ITS strategies by using data from PEMS. The models are developed through considering the influence of the vehicle s operating mode (VSP distribution) on vehicle emissions, which not only guarantees the accuracy of emissions and fuel consumption models, but also makes it possible to accumulate current traffic information systems in Beijing. Wang et al. (2008) established a model based on VSP and speed, which provided insight that how different levels of cruise speed and acceleration affect vehicle fuel consumption. The model prediction shows that vehicle fuel consumption per unit distance is optimum at speeds between 50 and 70 km/h which is similar to the observed data from PEMS. This is evident in the literature that in order to improve both the applicability and accuracy of the existing emission models instantaneous vehicle activity data are needed which can be collected from the on board emission system like PEMS to consider all real conditions which might induce the modeling errors and improve the model precisions. In summary, the microscopic simulation modeling has provided an accurate and reliable representation of vehicular operations in roadway networks so far in the literature. From the literature we also found that, most of the vehicle emissions data used in modeling are collected in a controlled laboratory environment or simulation based. With ... • 53. Love and Lust in Love s Labours Lost Love is a familiar. Love is a devil. There is no evil angel but Love. (Love s Labours Lost. 1.2.) This Shakespearean quote relies on the fact that love can lead to many misfortunes, presented as one of the aspects of love in both William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream , and Wole Soyinka s The Lion and the Jewel . One aspect of lovedemonstrates its brilliant sides, and with it, brings affection, faith, and intimacy. However, it is also noted that an equal aspect of love conveys the consequences and misfortunes, the negative connotations of love, which the essay will be exploring, broken down into several characteristics: lust, manipulation, and hatred, which both plays share in correspondence and in distinction. In A Midsummer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most apparent is the approach of manipulation: Oberon uses the magic of the flower s juice, while Baroka uses cunning and experience from his previous adventures to lure Sidi. Additionally, they differ in another way as Oberon used manipulation as means of torture, while Baroka utilized it for the seduction of Sidi. Nonetheless, both plays relate to manipulation as it is used for the advantages of the schemer, but is unrelated as by the method of how it is used. Finally, both plays are incomplete without another significance of love, and that is hatred, and roots in both plays from the fact that there were two men competing for the love of a female, and the opposing men share the hatred between each other. In A Midsummer Night s Dream, after the love potion was mistakenly applied to an additional male, the two men, Lysander and Demetrius both constantly bicker and fight for Helena: Where is Demetrius? Oh, how fit a word /Is that vile name to perish on my sword! (Lysander, 2.2.112 113) In The Lion and the Jewel, the village chief, Baroka, and the young schoolteacher, Lakunle, both share a similar struggle the war for Sidi s love and Lakunle frequently insult(s) the Bale. (Willis) The distinctions, however, lay on the end result and as to how the hatred was resolved. Firstly, in A Midsummer Night s Dream, the hatred was garnered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Economic And... EU was founded in 1957 with a goal to build a common market. To achieve this goal a close co operation on economic and fiscal policies between member states is needed. Hence, the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) was born in order to achieve the single market goal. The coordination in Economic and Monetary Union involves the economic and fiscal policies through a common monetary policy for all member states and a common currency, euro. The European Central Bank (ECB) was created to take care of the monetary policy of the Eurozone and to be the national central banks of the euro area countries. Ever since 1999, EU has decided to adopt the use of single currency in their community. The decision to adopt a single currency shows a concrete proof... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By single currency and euro area, new opportunities arise in the global economy. The euro system follows a neutral stance by not fostering or hindering the international use of its currency. Although euro was used by the international community for several reasons (payments, pegging, etc.), the internationalization of euro was compelled by the utilization of euro in global financial market. The international use of euro is as an investment and financing currency. The single currency policy also gives impact for the international co operation process. • 55. The Lady s Not For Turning To those waiting with bated breath for that favorite media catchphrase, the U turn, I have only one thing to say: You turn if you want to. The lady s not for turning. Margaret Thatcher at the 1980 Conservative Party Conference in Brighton Britain emerged as one of the victors of World War II and became a founding member of the United Nations with a permanent seat on the Security Council. However, it lost the title of global superpower, easily demonstrated by the Indian movement for independence, and the botched attempt to occupy the Suez Canal. Massive war debts, lack of economic productivity, and high spending, accruable to the demise of the British Empire, created problems for all new government administrations . When Margaret Thatcher took office in 1979, she became the first female prime minister and the first female head of state in the Western world. Guided by her political philosophies, she sought to fix the problems that Britain faced. In doing so, she forever changed the face of the United Kingdom. The Life and Tenure of Margaret Thatcher (Birth to Election) Margaret Hilda Thatcher (nГ©e Roberts) was born October 13, 1925 in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England. Raised in a strict Methodist family , she was the oldest daughter of Alfred Roberts, a grocer, minister, and local politician, and Ethel Stephenson, a homemaker. Emulating her father, she formed an early desire to be a politician. Propelled by her intelligence, she scored a spot at Oxford ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Examples Of Dark Humor In Slaughterhouse Five Slaughterhouse Five (1969) is Kurt Vonnegut s book on what he feels is one of the most important events in his entire life: the bombing of Dresden. Though throughout history many refer to this action taken by the U.S. Army as a successful mission to fight against the Germans n WWII, but Vonnegut sees this as a massacre killing thousands of innocent people for the sake of war. He even states And what do the birds say? All there is to say about a massacre, things like poo tee weet? (24 Vonnegut Jr,) which shows the ineffable concept of the bombing. Its not the bombing of Dresden alone that led to the creation of slaughterhouse five Vonnegut also loved comedy and dark humor is one of the aspects of this novel which creates the desire to keep reading for the sake of the irony of situations in Billy s story.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The placement of jokes and humorous events in a novel with such dark subject matter allows for the reader t get a form of reprieve from the heaviness of the subject. There are many times where humor is injected into a situation to make it lighter or keep the reader interested. One specific example is when a sniper misses Billy s head and he stands still to give him a second shot Get out of the road you dumb mother f*****! Roland yells(Vonnegut 43). Another example of this is the explanations of how time worked for the tralfamadorians. They explain how time affects them and how death is not a major thing in their lives. When the phrase so it goes is introduced to Billy the chuckles to themselves every time its used as its verbal irony to the fact that he may not care that that person died or not they even find themselves doing the very same thing we someone mentions death if its night a direct impact on there lies they might find themselves telling others so it ...
