Themes Depicted in the Play Summer of the Seventeenth...
Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll is a timeless play as it can be transposed to be as relevant today
as when it was written. The play is definitely a tragi comedy but more than the ideas raised in the
statement the play is about change and the inability for some to deal with it, the battle between
dreamand reality and loyalty and mateship. It also serves as a social document of Australia in the
1950s. Lawler uses symbols, the actions of the characters, the structure of the playand mise en scene
to effectively portray his feelings to the audience.
The main theme expressed in the play is change and the characters inability to cope with this. Like
many working class people from this time the characters in the play are fairly uneducated ... Show

She embraced the change that was happening and Olive mistakes this for treachery. The
downfall of the characters (especially Olive) really is rather tragic. In the final scene Roo
accepts that change as much as he does not want it must happen, he asks Olive to marry him.
Her dreams are now shattered and she sees Roo as the one who has taken them from her; I want
what I had before. You give it back to me give me back what you ve taken. (Pg. 93) Change is
inevitable and a person has to learn that the same pattern of living cannot serve them feasibly
forever.
Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll a battle between dreams and reality. The characters are living
in a dream world where everything for them is perfect. This, of course, is until Pearl comes
along and sees through the thin façade of their existence; Glamorous nights! (Pg. 57) she
scoffs at their seemingly pathetic excuse for a New Years Eve party. She is the classic realist in
the play, as is Emma, and brings reality to the characters lives. These two also create an
exceptional contrast and help to magnify Olive s illusions. Olive s dream of living a carefree
life forever is shattered when she is brought down to a reality which she refuses to accept; the lay
off season is not what it once was, and Roo is no longer the Aussie hero she thought him to be.
His dream is to always be top dog in the cane

Texas Women’s Health Program
The Texas Women s Health Program has start off on a foot of controversial opinions, personal
ideals, and questionable authority, and with these comes thousands of critiques, arguments, and
overall complaints for the program as a whole. The two prominent sides to this story, those who
are for the bill and those who are not, both have their own motives and reasons for their beliefs,
and I am not different. Biases exist in any opinion, and they become more evident in accordance
to how controversial that opinion is, yet I will try my best to break down arguments to their core
evidence to best formulate and improve my own opinion. On the side of those who not only
advocate the bill but created it there is a very complicated idealism rooted in... Show more content

This tiered system sets up privileges that are difficult, if not impossible, to break out of. Even
before the cuts less than 20% of women in need... were served... out of the 1.7 million women in
need (Stevenson, 2014). A legislation that was created to benefit and, as the advocates for the bill
have said before, create the ideal world without abortion has succeed in undermining the health and
safety of the individuals within the state. The benefits of this bill help little to no one as people
are forced to conform based around moral ideals. Now here is where the issue becomes
convoluted, because it surprisingly needs to be argued that the entire backbone to the abortion
debate is grounded in moral high ground authority. Rick Perry claims that a baby can feel the
pain of being killed and that we [the state] have an obligation to end that type of cruelty, (Smith,
2013) yet there is little to no evidence that a fetus can feel pain inside the womb as it lacks the
developed nervous system to feel anything. Basic reflexes are available to be seen but where this
pain comes in has no scientific evidence, and to base an entire law over the concept of pain and
morality rather than actual irrefutable evidence is a stance best kept in ancient times that lacked
modern science.
This moral connection to human life and innocence of children can be seen further connected in
Texas new sonogram law, which requires that a woman seeking an

How Did George Beadle Contribute To Science
George Beadle was a very known and interesting biologist that helped the advancement of genetic
science. He won the noble prize for his works, and was recognized as a very successful geneticist.
His plan was to mutate nerve spores, and his success didn t come until the 299th culture. His
perseverance and dedication to scienceled him to advancement in genetic science. George Beadle
lived a long and successful life. He was born on October 28th, 1903. He was raised in a town
called Wahoo, Nebraska. He died on June 9th, 1989 in Pomona, California. George Beadle died

Cuban Relations During The Cuban Revolution
US Cuban relations have not been the friendliest since the Cuban Revolution in 1959. Only
recently during President Barack Obama s second term in office did the US really try to resolve the
Cuban issue and only then did it become such a priority. US Cuban relations have always been a
mixed bag of plenty of good and evil deeds. The US needs all the allies it can get and it needs to
refocus in Latin America. Cubais no real challenge to American power but Cuba represents a sore
spot for American foreign policy. The US must work as one with Cuba in order to normalize
relations with Cuba and bring Cubans into the 21st century. There are plenty of Cuban
Americans who want desperately to see family and friends on the island and the US must work
together with Cuba to achieve these goals. Cuba has been a hot topic of debate ever since the
Cuban Revolution and it continues to be one which is why there is no better time to study Cuba.
Cuba has a long cultural history which makes it interesting to study and now that the US is finally
working with the Cuban government on normalizing relations, more scholars will be traveling to
Cuba. More information about Cuba and the Cuban culture will become available as the US
moves to being better neighbors. This is important for researchers and others to gain new insights
on Cuba which have not been available for the past fifty to sixty years. The renewed Cuban
American relations and the so called, Cuban Thaw , is the right approach by President

Palace Of Versailles Research Paper
I chose to do a virtual tour of the Palace of Versailles. I am fascinated by the royal family so the
Palace of Versailles is deemed suitable because it is the home of the monarchy of France. I
began my virtual tour of the most famous room known as the Hall of Mirrors. As you walk
through the room, you can see chandeliers after chandeliers lined the center of the ceiling and to
the sides. The room is structured like a barrel vault with round arch windows symmetric to the
mirrors reflecting the garden. Golden sculptures of women are placed in between the mirrors
against the marble wall. The vaulted ceilings are covered with illustrations of the success of France
painted by Le Brun. He also decorated the roomsso his artistic vision can be seen everywhere. My
initial reaction of the room was that it is very elegant and magnificent. I ve never seen anything
so spectacular before. Every aspect of the room is a work of art on its own. The paintings that
covered the vaulted ceiling were very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This room is dedicated to the military victories. A wall with King Louis XIV on horseback while
defeating his enemies is one of the focus of the room. Surrounding it were trophies and weapons
in bronze color. Below it was two men chained noting the victory of the king. My interpretation
of the statement that Le Brun was trying to make is that he wanted to show that the king is very
successful during his reign because he defeated his enemies and that he was a very powerful man.
The room focuses on the French victories through illustrations on the ceilings. One painting that
caught my eyes were the one with the army floating on clouds showing their victory against their
enemies and the people were celebrating. I was fascinated by this painting because the people had
wings and it looked so mystical. The art is very similar to some characters of mythology and I
really like that. The painting was very powerful in conveying the

Temperatures In Arctics
Due to rising temperatures, the ice is beginning to melt. Because of this, the sea levels are rising.
As of now, the temperature in the Arctic have risen two to three times than the global average of
57.2 degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees Celsius). According to climate researchers from the Alfred
Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), stated that from the
planets history, summertime sea ice was to be found in the central Arctic in periods characterized
by higher global temperatures but less CO2 than today. Also, the researchers studied the glacial
history of central Arctic. From this, they drew the conclusion that the last interglacial was about
115,000 and 130,000 years ago. Thanks to the sediment

Observed From The Standpoint Within Western Culture, It
Observed from the standpoint within Western Culture, it can be a challenge to fully step out of the
context of it to gain an outside perspective. Nevertheless, it appears as a necessary aspect to
question what is culture and what is not, to therefore get a clearer understanding of what we are as
humans. Western Culturecan arguably be considered one of the most influential cultures to the rest
of the world, and is embedded deeply in the globalization movement of the world. It is not a

The Buddhist community also shares many beliefs including the Four Nobel Truths, the Eight Fold
Path, the Law of Karma, and the Middle Way. American Buddhist is a constantly growing
community that encompasses people from many paths. It is stated, [f]or rough comparative
purposes, it is probably safe to say that the number of Buddhists in America constitutes somewhere
between 0.5percent and 1.5 percent of the total population (Gregory 237). This minute demographic
is largely influenced by Thailand, which is where the temple I attend, Wat Florida Dhammaram, is

cocktail of different influences, including Western Culture. Rightfully, it is expressed, [w]hat often
gets overlooked in discussions of American Buddhism is that it is developing within a larger global

Thailand would be like. I often consider how the culture would be different in other places also like

The Pros And Cons Of Viral Publicization
INTRODUCTION
Viral marketing, viral publicizing, are buzzword referring to advertising methods that use existing
social media, internet and other technologies to try to produce booms in brand awareness or to
attain other marketing objectives (such as product and service sales) through self replicating viral
practices, similar to the spread of bugs or computer viruses ( Online memes and memetics). It can
be delivered by conversation (word of mouth) or increased by the network effects of the Internet
and mobile networks. Viral publicizing is personal and, while coming from a known promoter, it
does not mean corporates pay for its circulation. Most of the known viral commercials circulating
online are advertisements paid by a known sponsor firm, launched either on their own platform
(corporation website or social media profile) or on social media web such as YouTube. Clients

The most frequently utilized broadcast medium for viral uploads include: Sharing or spreading
(Pass along), incentive viral, trendy based, and undercover marketing. However, the imaginative
nature of viral marketing permits an endless amount of potential forms and vehicles the messages
can utilize for broadcast , including mobile devices.
The ultimate objective of marketers interested in creating effective viral marketing programs is to
create viral messages that appeal to individuals with high social networking potential (SNP) and
that have a great probability of being presented and viral by these individuals and their rivals in
their communications with others in a short period of interval
The term viral marketing has also been used negatively to refer to stealth marketing campaigns
marketing strategies that promote a product to public without them knowing they are being

for a while then return to school to pursue a career as a registered nurse. There are several reasons
why this career is the right one for me I love to make difference in peoples live and bring hope

most important aspects of nursing on top of the many reasons that i have discussed earlier. One
of the main reasons for having a desire and wanting to pursue and a nursing career is my
children they motivate me everyday to keep pushing striving and do better.I want to give them a
better life than i had growing up which will in turn only make them want to be better and want
more out of life when they get older, and to have a mind set that they are able to do anything that
they put their minds and effort into. I say this because they see that i went and made it through
the struggle of nursing school all the school events i missed and sports games. They always tell
me they want to move into a big house like a mansion i often explain to them you have to work
for all that you want , and that is what im doing with nursing school i too want to owe a big house

The Growth Of The Economy Essay
Showtime in late 1950 s Minsky started warning about the gradual shift of the economy from a
very robust financial system that was stable and with no financial crisis in the early postwar
period. He had called with his analysis that gradually over time debts in the private sector would
tend to build up and increasingly risky financial innovations would increase over time. He is very
famous for the statement that stability itself is destabilizing. Although things seem very stable
today, gradually over time that stability would build confidence to take increasingly risky positions
in assets. The model that he had built explains financial crisisin the economic system. He brings up
that supply of credit increases during boom and abruptly decreased during economic slowdown. It
seems almost intuitive that from a standpoint of an investor the great time to invest is when the
economy is booming to increase his or her profitability. Lenders as the investors become
increasingly optimistic about their return and they both become less sensitive to risk. But when the
economy starts slowing down investors sell out their holding to not to lose more of their assets
making the economy even worse off. All of the New Deal structure that have been put in place in
the economy during the great depression, tremendous buildup of government debt during World
War II gave a very safe asset for the private sector. This would be in a sense leveraged, the safe
government debt would serve a base

Coeliac Disease Research Paper
Coeliac disease and related conditions
Coeliac disease, also called celiac disease or sprue, is an autoimmune enteropathy of the
duodenum caused by the ingestion of gluten by those having a genetic predisposition. It is
estimated to affect about 1% of the population, but this value may vary regionally and based on
the diagnostic testing used (Biagi, et al., 2010). Variations in the gens expressing human leukocyte
antigens DQ2 and DQ8 are strongly associated with the disease and while these variations do not
necessarily lead to coeliac disease, there are essentially no cases of coeliac disease without these
variations. In the duodenum, gluten molecules may trigger an immune response leading to

While coeliac disease is often asymptomatic and underdiagnosed, the villous atrophy may cause
severe malnutrition leading to abdominal pain, changes in bowel movements, weight loss,
anaemia, fatigue, reduced growth, osteoporosis, infertility, and neurological problems and may
also cause gastrointestinal cancers (Alaedini Green, 2005). Further, coeliac disease may also
manifest itself in dermatitis herpeiformis, a severe skin rash. Coeliac disease is usually diagnosed
through endoscopy of the duodenum or intestinal biopsy while the patient is on a gluten
containing diet, or through serological or genetic testing (Alaedini Green, 2005). The only
therapeutic option for affected individuals is a life long gluten free diet and in over 95% of case
this leads to an abatement of symptoms within weeks, but regeneration of the duodenum may take
more than 12 months (Lee, et al., 2003). The suggested maximum permissible daily intake of
gluten ranges between 10mg and 100mg (Hischenhuber, et al., 2006), and a recommendation of
below 50mg per day has been confirmed in a

Today s visit to the museum was exciting! Having the opportunity to see John Simpsons vision for
the museum in its current state, and knowing we could influence the design is a golden
opportunity from my perspective. What this signaled was Amsterdam, when talking of flow and
influence of language and historical content. I knew when I first saw the Seuss advertisement, I
had my eye on a few of them. However, as a dyslexic person writing, and applying for all three, last

When we look at art through the eyes of the Native American we should see a functional and usable

How Molecules Move Across The Gradient Lab Report
Trying to Diffuse the Tension: How Molecules Move Across A Gradient
Introduction Diffusion is defined as the, process by which molecules intermingle as a result of their
kinetic energy of random motion. (Nave, n.d.). By random motion, it means that no energy input is
needed for the molecules to move across the gradient. In the example of potassium iodide and the
cornstarch, the potassium iodide moved across the gradient which caused the cornstarch to take on
the purplish color. Osmosis is the diffusion within water in which a semi permeable membrane
allows for a higher concentration solution to diffuse across said membrane into the lower
concentration solution. Osmosis drives most biological processes allowing for equilibrium to be
met and the transportation of molecules to occur (Nave, n.d.). However, larger biological molecules
cannot pass through semipermeable membranes such as sucrose and starch ( GCSE Biology... ,
n.d.). Within this experiment, the percent change of weight must be calculated to be able to
quantitatively define the concentration movement of the molecules across the gradient. The
equation for the percent change in weight is:
% change in weight = [(change in weight)/(initial weight)] * 100
This equation allows for one to be able to identify if the change in weight is significant to a given
experiment. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Personalization In Health And Social Care Case Study
2.3 Personalization and Privacy Concern
In the rapidly developing mobile health market, MHS providers need personalized services
increasingly in order to attract customers and capture the market. Meanwhile, it will involve the
issues of users privacy inevitably, and this seems to be an adoption behavior paradox. On the one
hand, users enjoy personalized mobile health services, but on the other hand, they are reluctant to

personalization, they will be discussed in detail separately.

The name Cadillac is well known all over the world because of the Detroit based General Motors
division manufactured Cadillac car. Few know however that it comes from the name of the
French founder of Detroit, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, a name that makes

Historically Cadillac is a bastide founded in 1280 by the Edward I, King of England for the

still can see 2 gates, 3 towers and almost the entire rampart. The most important historic monument
of the town is the Cadillac Castle . The castle was built between 1599 and1610 by Jean Louis

Analysis Of Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill Essay
5.Analyse how the writer(s) use(s) language techniques for a particular purpose in a written text
or texts you have studied. Katherine Mansfield uses an extensive range of language techniques to
portray the lonely and slightly delusional spinster; Miss Brill. The story of Miss Brill is an
extremely good example of how a writer can use different language techniques to reveal a variety
of aspects of the character.
The author uses characterisation through the language techniques to reveal a variety of truths to the
reader about Miss Brill s personality. Mansfield uses the language techniques to express the theme
of connectedness throughout the story. Mansfield also uses symbolism, setting and point of views
by the different characters in her story to create a clear scene and atmosphere for the readers.
Symbolism is very important throughout the short story as it illustrates a vivid understanding of
who Miss Brill is, which is easily expressed through the relationship between Miss Brill and her fox
fur. BODY PARAGRAPH #1
Miss Brill s fur is an extension of herself. The fox fur throughout the novel thoroughly symbolises
Miss Brill and her life in a variety of ways. Miss Brill whom has lost all sense of connectedness
throughout the story is able to strongly connect to the fox fur on a very ominous level. Mansfield
makes it clear that Miss Brill lives her life through the fox fur; by links of characteristics between
the fur and Miss Brill, which are fairly similar.

Great Wave Off Kanagawa Essay
An art work has many elements and principles to it. These are known as elements and principles of
design. The print The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has many elements and principles of
design that show how much the artist used them in his work.
The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has all the elements of design. For example, one of the
best aspects of the print is Hokusai s utilization of line to create both motion and space in the
wave (NGA). The curves of the wave and body of one boat drop just low enough to allow the base
of Mount Fuji to be visible, and the white top of the great wave creates a diagonal line that leads
the viewer s eye directly to the peak of the mountain top (Harris). The dramatically curved,
upwards line of the wave frames the mountain, whilst the jagged ends act as claws which almost
personify the waves into a hunter grasping at its prey; the frail, delicate fishing boats seem to have
no chance against the water (Ladkin). There are many ways in which Hokusai uses line in The
Great Wave off Kanagawa.
Another element of design that Hokusai uses in The Great Wave is shape. For example, there are
small C shaped fingers of water that are thrown forward of the great curve as it arcs to its
thunderous completion (CC). The threatening wave is about to splash down and take over the boats

Its dimensions are 10 1/8 x 14 15/16 in. (Metropolitan Museum of Art). However, the size of the
painting doesn t affect the details noticed. The eye is first caught by the huge wave which takes
up half of the space of the painting. The dramatically curved line of the wave perfectly frames the
distant Mount Fuji, and is suspended in time like a huge paw with multiple foam claws about to
grasp the frail fishing boats (Louviq). The details are still greatly appreciated even though the print
is small. The size of the painting isn t really relevant to how detailed and greatly appreciated this

Analysis Of Sia Furler s Chandelier
A woman s work is never done: many people grow up with this saying and feel it to be true. One
such woman, artist Sia Furler, has written countless number one music hits, and she argues that
while society teaches us only young people can enter the mainstream music scene, you can still be
successful at an older age. Sia begins building her credibility by sharing personal accomplishments
as she enters the music scene, then goes on to cite convincing personal stories, and successfully
employs emotional appeals through her music debut; however, her dramatic entrance leaves you
wondering whether her attempt to appealto listeners attention weakens her credibility as an artist.
Throughout her era of new music, Sia uses strong appeals to logos, with many facts and logical
progression of ideas. As her single Chandelier hits number one, people started to wonder who the
girl behind the wig really was. She gives them facts of her past that bring them to like her even
more, going on to reveal that she s written number one hits sung by other artists. On the cover of
a billboard magazine Sia has a paper bag on her head with a message written on it saying, This
artist is responsible for over twelve million track sales, has a new single on the hunger games
soundtrack, and doesn t want to be famous...
Sia uses logos to entice mystery, giving out facts that only make listeners more obsessed with
finding out who she is. This may be one of the most important aspects of Sia advertising her new
music. A video titled ten songs you didn t know were written by Sia gains millions of views. All
this attention and mystery only drive up sales of the new single.
Adding to her logos appeal, Sia uses strong sources that strengthen her credibility and appeal to
ethos. She goes on to cite personal stories from her past that suck in the listener and gains their
trust. I was a pill popper, the hit maker shared with OK! Magazine, revealing that she became
dependent on Xanax and OxyContin, after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Sia hasn t yet revealed what she looks like but people everywhere already have a since of
credibility. This feeds the audiences values, who have discovered that Sia is a former drug addict

Relationship Between Stress And Stress
Experiment Paper Introduction During Adolescence, teenagers and young adults begin to learn
to cope and emotionally self regulate. Now distanced between parents and home, adolescents are
forced to adapt to their new surroundings and psychologically adjust to the new environment.
College, provides a unique opportunity for adolescents to attain an education, and experience
new social settings on their own terms. However, in the process of adapting to a new and
unusual environment, their enters a new variable, and that is stress. According to the studies and
research by Andrew Baum stress is : an emotional reaction or experience accompanied by

Traditional Orthodontics
Traditional orthodontic braces are the best choice when choosing braces because they are more
reliable. According to Philbin Reinheimer Orthodontics, When it comes to metal braces, nothing
is more reliable than traditional metal braces. Braces have been worn for generations and they
are proven to work ( Traditional Braces Benefits Par. 2). This suggests that braces are the best
choice because they are reliable and are proven to work. Braces are reliable because they are
cemented onto the teeth, thus making the braces non removable. Since braces are cemented on,
there is no temptation to take them off, this forces them to work continuously. As a result, a healthy
smile is left behind due to reliable traditional metal braces. Dr. Vu suggests... Show more content on

Since technology has developed braces to become more customizable, braces are also more

reliability, ensuring the patient that traditional braces will leave astounding results no matter how
problematic the initial set of teeth appear. Traditional braces are the best choice when choosing
braces because they are reliable and customizable, ensuring a healthy smile. Dr. Patel states that
With braces we have control over every single movement your teeth make.... Braces are easy to
adjust, provide proven results, and let us truly direct your teeth where they need to go without
compromise (Panama City Smiles par. 6). According to this evidence, orthodontists have control
over traditional braces. This means that if there is anything that does not go as planned,
orthodontists have complete control to go in and shift the teeth in the correct direction. This allows
for reliable and effective results since braces can be adjusted by orthodontists to guide braces to a

Surveillance In George Orwell s 1984
Surveillance, or a close watch kept over someone or something for a specific purpose, features
prominently in George Orwell s dystopian novel 1984. The book follows Winston Smith, a middle
aged man who lives in the futuristic society of Oceania, where the government of the Party, under
the leadership of Big Brother, maintains strict control of the people and prevents free thought
through propaganda, censorship, and surveillance. Winston tries to think freely while evading
detection and succeeds for a time in having an affair with his co conspirator Julia, but the Party
eventually captures and re educates both of them. Surveillance has also become a controversial
issue in today s society, as Heather Kelly discusses in her article After... Show more content on

The nearly ubiquitous presence of telescreens in urban Oceania creates a constant fear of scrutiny
among those who secretly harbor negative thoughts against the Party, precluding most free
expression of thought because of the certainty of harsh punishment. Next, Winston encounters a
second type of surveillance when his neighbor Mrs Parsons s children pretend to confront him as
a traitor during his visit to their apartment. After returning home, Winston reflects: [her children]
would be watching her night and day for symptoms of unorthodoxy ... hardly a week passed in
which the Times did not carry a paragraph describing how some eavesdropping little sneak ... had
overheard some compromising remark and denounced his parents to the Thought Police (26 27).
The Party trains Oceanic children through organizations like the Spies to zealously obey and
promote the Party and to actively watch for and report any wrongdoing, even if the offender is
their parent. In this way, it twists the natural parent child bond into a tool for surveillance,
destroying the exchange of free speech within the home environment and discouraging any hope of
passing the principle of free thought onto the next generation. Finally, Winston mentions a third
form of surveillance later on when he travels to a secluded woodland to converse freely with Julia:

First Sight Is Real
In my own opinion I will explain to you if I think love at first sight is real. I believe that love at
first glance isn t real because you truly have no idea who that person is. If you like somebody
because of their looks, it s from lust or desire, not love. You have to know the person, not just go
out and propose to every single, pretty person out there, otherwise it could actually lead to bad
decisions and later can harm you.
When we were all little we got told to stay away from strangers because they will kidnap us, well

First, Create discipline through purpose (Unknown, 2003). Abrashoff did away with the diversity

able to produce an environment where anyone could critique anyone else on the ship through
proper communication channels.
Finally, Be a champion for your team (Unknown, 2003). If the crew needed something and it was

Character Analysis Of Black Swan
In the film, Black Swan, the plot centers on Nina Sayers, a ballerina whose only goal is to play
the role of the Black and White Swan in her company s production of Tchaikovsky s Swan Lake
ballet. While she easily embodies into the innocence and grace of the White Swan, her shy and
fragile personality does not fit the seductiveness and mysteriousness of the Black Swan. As a
result, she struggles to become the opposite of who she is, worsening her issues with depression
and anorexia. In the beginning of the film, Nina was depicted as an average, normal person
living in New York that yet lacked the freedom to express herself as a sexually free, young
woman due to her mother s controlling behavior. When she wins the coveted Swan Queen role,
the feeling of immense pressure that comes with the role causes Nina to lose her tenuous grip
on reality and descend into a living nightmare. For example, she experiences symptoms such as
interpreting normal behavior from Lily as an attack because of Nina s jealousy toward Lily s
effortless embodiment of the Black Swan (Schacter, Gilbert, Wegner, Nock, 2014). Nina s
attention to negative behavior to Lily is a result of her own imagination she starts conceiving
events that did not happen such as a lesbian fling with Lily and her constant attempts to sabotage
Nina s ability to perform as the Swan Queen. In addition, she suffers through hallucinatory
episodes that involve bodily horror, such as her skin tearing off her body and the appearance of
an evil twin, every time she reaches a step closer to her full transformation of the Swan Queen.
In addition, she has developed an eating disorder called anorexia nervosa to meet the standard
body image required for dancers. While her loss of appetite only becomes worse as the film
progresses, this issue seems to have existed before the events of the Swan Lake production.
Ultimately, Nina becomes so trapped in the world of Swan Lake that she forgets about the real
world and truly becomes both the White Swan and Black Swan. However, her mind is unable to
harbor both forces on a physical and psychological level, and as a result, she unconsciously
chooses to commit suicide. Natalie Portman s portrayal of Nina s depression and anorexia

The Battle Of Malvern Hill
The Battle of Malvern Hill:
Field Artillery played a significant role in many battles during the Civil War. The Battle of
Malvern Hill is one such instance. Located in Henrico County VA, Malvern Hill sits South East

the outcome whether good or bad. In this paper, we will discuss the initial disposition of troops as
well as the challenges faced by each army, the actions taken once hostilities initiated and the
outcome of the battle. In conclusion, we will discuss the lessons learned from this battle as it

Cut In Legal Aid Essay
Cuts in legal aid are causing problems for the ordinary people and leaving them without vital
support because there has been a reform in legal aid, which are the cuts. In this assignment, I
will discuss the two different side of impact of legal aid cuts on the people and how this act has
impacted legal aid. Legal Aid and Advice Act 1949 was the beginning of legal aid, this is the
access to assistance to fight for justice for the ones that cannot afford legal representation and in
need of protection. The state pays the legal professions which are the solicitors and barristers to

Which suggested negative outcomes because they are saving a huge amount but effecting more
people. For example, an online article the Royal Gazette it states that Mentally ill Let down by
the justice system , it s about mentally ill man is not being granted legal aid because he does not
fall into a category that will grant legal aid for him. This is wrong as injustice is happening to
him and his human right is being breach, which then proves that the government is not
protecting the citizens and not carrying out the right responsibilities. Also, present why the
legal aid shouldn t have cuts as now it s become a barrier to justice. Another, problem that legal
aid cuts have raised is parents fighting for custody, if a legal aid service cannot represent one
side, it states how they will struggle without the help of legal aid and then won t get the custody
and which will go to the other parent that s probably not fit to take custody for the kids. For

The Current Academic Thinking On Cross Layer Design...
This capstone project investigates the current academic thinking on cross layer design
approaches used to improve the quality of video steaming in wireless networks. Various kinds of
wireless networks emerged due to innovations in technologies and wireless devices. Such
networks are expected to render video applications as well. This ability of mobile devices caused
research interest in video streaming applications in wireless networks. In this context, the existing
cross layer designs are studied and research gaps are identified. Then a new CLD is designed and
implemented. Two layers are considered such as physical and MAC layers in order to jointly
optimize performncae of network for rendering video streaming applications. The... Show more

Many networks are infrastructure less networks where the nodes can configure dynamically to
form a useful network. There are many challenges in wireless networks as explored in [1]. The
challenges are as follows. Wireless channel conditions are unpredictable and unreliable. As
wireless medium is shared, it may result in contention. There might be issues with hidden
terminal problem. Route maintenance and node mobility may cause issues. Energy constrained
nature of the wireless networks. Having no centralized control on the networks Due to the
innovations in wireless technologies and recent developments in electronic circuits, there is
ever increasing trend in the usage of mobile devices that are part of wireless networks. People of
all lifestyles are using different kinds of mobile devices. In this context, there has been increased
research in the multimedia applications that run over wireless networks. As the multimedia
applications are resource intensive, they are to be used with certain optimizations. The wireless
networks are not optimized for such applications. The OSI model was also not designed by
keeping multimedia applications in mind. Therefore, individual layers of OSI model can be
optimized or jointly they can be optimized. The joint optimization is known as cross layer design
(CLD) approach. The cross layer design approach considers two or more layers to be improved for
different parameters. Each layer needs inputs from the application

The Catholic Church During The Middle Ages And Through The...
Beginning in the Middle Ages and through the seventeenth centuries, witch trials occurred in
Europe. Many people were accused of being witches some of these people were accused of being
witches for not following Christian beliefs at that time and others followed witch prosecutions for
goods and money. Furthermore, the stereotypes of witches at this period also had a role in
causing witch prosecutions. In this essay I argue how these three components led to the death of
so called witches. Firstly, I will discuss how the Catholic Church had an impact on most
prosecutions. Secondly, I will explain how social stereotypes of that period have also influenced
with the causes of prosecution of many alleged witches. Thirdly, I will discuss how... Show more

It is important to understand the meaning of witchcraft to be able to identify what caused the
massive witch hunt in Europe. During the medieval to the early modern period witchcraft was
identified as the practice of harmful, black or maleficent magic caused by a witch (Levack, 1987,
p. 4). They also describe them as evildoers that associate with the Devil, kidnap children, and
murder others. These accusations were untrue rumors made by the Catholic Church to promote
Christianity and punish those who did not follow the church beliefs. (Levack, 1987, p. 7)
Furthermore, Witches were commonplace all over the world with different stigmas and
stereotypes attached to them from each respectful culture that contained them (Girard, 1986). It
was not until the rise of the Catholic Church that witches soon became associated with black
magic and the Devil, leading to mass prosecutions. In the Middle Ages there was a popular belief
that demons walked the Earth, leaving disease and devastation in their wake. The church, feeling
threatened by the ideologies of Witchcraft, decided to link the old Pagan religion with that of
Satanism (Levack, 1987). By doing so, they were able to gather favor from the masses by taking
advantage of the fear of the Devil by the public and using it to prosecute those who

Comparison of Elenor of Aquitaine, Queen Elizabeth I, and...
Eleanor of Aquitaine was one of the most influential women in the history of Europe, having
been a queen to rulers of both France and England, along with having significant political and
economic power in her own right. She served as an example to all women, during a period where
there was increasing development in the female s role in society. Eleanor was a patron of the arts,
and she was also a powerful personality, influencing the politics of the day with the help of her
sons, and maintaining a certain degree of control over the monarchy even after her marriage to
Henry had ended.
Eleanor was born in 1122 to Duke William X of Aquitaine. The holdings of her father were equal to
those of the French royalty, making him one of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This Elizabethan Settlement lasts to this day. Only a great leader could think of something so
effective. Her idea has lasted for centuries.
Not only was Elizabeth a great leader when it came to religion but her military accomplishments
were also overwhelming. During this time, England s main concern was to limit Spain s power.
So Spain and England went to war. England fought against the Spanish Armada. Sir Francis Drake
led the English Fleet to a great victory. When the fight was over, only half the Spanish Armada
returned, whereas every single English ship returned to England. This defeat was one of the
greatest ever for England. Before this, Elizabeth had kept England out of war for 27 years. For more
than three centurys, Englands ships ruled the water. After the war, Elizabeth made a friendship with
Spain. Elizabeth also made many treaties with surrounding countries. England became the foremost
power in Europe. Even Englands enemies loved Elizabeth. This woman changed the balance of
power in Europe during her reign.
Elizabeth proved to be a successful and a well accomplished leader who advanced her country
socially, militarily, religiously and economically. She thought of herself as Mother of England and
she most certainly proved this to be true. No English woman ruler accomplished as much as
Elizabeth did. Elizabeth was one of the most able rulers to ever govern England. Because of her,
the way woman rulers were thought of changed forever.

Schoolies Week
About 40,000 young people are expected to flock to the Gold Coast this year for Schoolies week. ()
Starting in the 1970s as a harmless swim in the ocean followed by a few days of enjoying what
the Gold Coast has to offer, Schoolies week has evolved into a multi million dollar industry (),
that involves a mass amount of risk taking behaviour executed by a mass amount of eager school
leavers. Such risk taking behaviour was surveyed in 2011 by .....showing that a total of 73.6% of
school leavers got drunk during Schoolies week, 30% had sexual intercourse, and more than half of
them without a condom.()
After calculating 73.6% of the 40 000 attending schoolies via Gold Coast, the result was 29440.

including Rosies Youth Mission, Drug Arm, Hotel Chaplains, and Red Frogs, have also worked
to reduce violence and assist potentially vulnerable Schoolies.[8] Current policies at school. In

Maggot Therapy
Volume 3, Issue 2, March 2009 Diabetes Technology Society Journal of Diabetes Science and
Technology REVIEW ARTICLE Maggot Therapy Takes Us Back to the Future of Wound Care:
New and Improved Maggot Therapy for the 21st Century Ronald A. Sherman, M.D., M.Sc.,
D.T.M.H. Abstract In the 21st century, eighty years after William Baer presented his
groundbreaking work treating bone and soft tissue infections with live maggots, thousands of
therapists around the globe have rediscovered the benefits of maggot therapy. The renaissance in
maggot therapy is due in large part to recent technological advancements that have solved or
minimized many of the treatment s earlier drawbacks: the need for reliable access to this perishable

But before those studies could be carried out, and before widespread use of maggot therapy was
imaginable, several technical challenges first had to be overcome. History of Maggot Therapy
Early Observations For centuries, the beneficial effects of maggot infested wounds were noted by
military surgeons who observed that injured soldiers abandoned on the battlefield fared better and
that their wounds healed faster when those wounds were infested with maggots.7 Himself having
observed maggot infested wounds during his service in World War I, the orthopedic surgeon,
William Baer, was the first to apply maggots systematically to nonhealing wounds while a
professor at Johns Hopkins and Children s Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Baer presented his
preliminary results in 1929,8 and his entire work in maggot therapy treating over 100 children with
osteomyelitis and problematic soft tissue wounds was published posthumously in 1931.9
Technological Advancements That Have Optimized Maggot Therapy Within 5 years of Baer s
groundbreaking work, over 1000 American, Canadian, and European surgeons were using maggots
in their practice.10 Many hospitals operated their own insectaries for rearing and disinfecting the
larvae. Rise and Fall of Maggot Therapy in the 1930s The three most common objections to maggot
therapy during the 1930s were the hassle of making dressings, the difficulty in obtaining viable,

The Contamination Of The Spinach Field Essay
We all know that poor and dirty conditions lead to the accumulation of bacteria and other health
risking factors. It is a violation of policy for health codes. This can be seen in the Mountain View
Farms most likely due to the fact that they grew the spinach in unfavorable conditions. There is
a possibility that the spinach field came into contact with the STEC O157:H7 through outside
sources due to the fact that they were exposed in dangerous conditions in outside environments
instead of being grown in a facility that is enclosed. In order to save and cut costs of
manufacturing spinach, the farm most likely planted their spinach outside. While this practice
is common, it is also unsafe as pollutants from other manufacturing companies and farms can
wash down into the spinach field. In this scenario, according to the map of nearby industries,
there are a few sources that could have exposed the spinach field to STEC O157:H7. The Floyd s
Pork Farm is the most suspected source as the dangerous strain of E. Coli can be contracted from
the animals through their food source and passed through their fecal matter. The feces are then
washed into nearby water systems by the rain and might not be filtered and processed completely
before being used. In this case, the water that was infected is being used for the irrigation system
to water and grow the spinach and other crops. Now the spinach has the E. Coli strain and then
being harvested to be bagged and sold off to the consumers. This

  • 2. Themes Depicted in the Play Summer of the Seventeenth... Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll is a timeless play as it can be transposed to be as relevant today as when it was written. The play is definitely a tragi comedy but more than the ideas raised in the statement the play is about change and the inability for some to deal with it, the battle between dreamand reality and loyalty and mateship. It also serves as a social document of Australia in the 1950s. Lawler uses symbols, the actions of the characters, the structure of the playand mise en scene to effectively portray his feelings to the audience. The main theme expressed in the play is change and the characters inability to cope with this. Like many working class people from this time the characters in the play are fairly uneducated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She embraced the change that was happening and Olive mistakes this for treachery. The downfall of the characters (especially Olive) really is rather tragic. In the final scene Roo accepts that change as much as he does not want it must happen, he asks Olive to marry him. Her dreams are now shattered and she sees Roo as the one who has taken them from her; I want what I had before. You give it back to me give me back what you ve taken. (Pg. 93) Change is inevitable and a person has to learn that the same pattern of living cannot serve them feasibly forever. Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll a battle between dreams and reality. The characters are living in a dream world where everything for them is perfect. This, of course, is until Pearl comes along and sees through the thin faГ§ade of their existence; Glamorous nights! (Pg. 57) she scoffs at their seemingly pathetic excuse for a New Years Eve party. She is the classic realist in the play, as is Emma, and brings reality to the characters lives. These two also create an exceptional contrast and help to magnify Olive s illusions. Olive s dream of living a carefree life forever is shattered when she is brought down to a reality which she refuses to accept; the lay off season is not what it once was, and Roo is no longer the Aussie hero she thought him to be. His dream is to always be top dog in the cane ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Texas Women’s Health Program The Texas Women s Health Program has start off on a foot of controversial opinions, personal ideals, and questionable authority, and with these comes thousands of critiques, arguments, and overall complaints for the program as a whole. The two prominent sides to this story, those who are for the bill and those who are not, both have their own motives and reasons for their beliefs, and I am not different. Biases exist in any opinion, and they become more evident in accordance to how controversial that opinion is, yet I will try my best to break down arguments to their core evidence to best formulate and improve my own opinion. Even before the cuts less than 20% of women in need... were served... out of the 1.7 million women in need (Stevenson, 2014). A legislation that was created to benefit and, as the advocates for the bill have said before, create the ideal world without abortion has succeed in undermining the health and safety of the individuals within the state. The benefits of this bill help little to no one as people are forced to conform based around moral ideals. Now here is where the issue becomes convoluted, because it surprisingly needs to be argued that the entire backbone to the abortion debate is grounded in moral high ground authority. Rick Perry claims that a baby can feel the pain of being killed and that we [the state] have an obligation to end that type of cruelty, (Smith, 2013) yet there is little to no evidence that a fetus can feel pain inside the womb as it lacks the developed nervous system to feel anything. Basic reflexes are available to be seen but where this pain comes in has no scientific evidence, and to base an entire law over the concept of pain and morality rather than actual irrefutable evidence is a stance best kept in ancient times that lacked modern science. This moral connection to human life and innocence of children can be seen further connected in Texas new sonogram law, which requires that a woman seeking an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Cuban Relations During The Cuban Revolution US Cuban relations have not been the friendliest since the Cuban Revolution in 1959. Only recently during President Barack Obama s second term in office did the US really try to resolve the Cuban issue and only then did it become such a priority. US Cuban relations have always been a mixed bag of plenty of good and evil deeds. The US needs all the allies it can get and it needs to refocus in Latin America. Cubais no real challenge to American power but Cuba represents a sore spot for American foreign policy. The US must work as one with Cuba in order to normalize relations with Cuba and bring Cubans into the 21st century. There are plenty of Cuban Americans who want desperately to see family and friends on the island and the US must work together with Cuba to achieve these goals. Cuba has been a hot topic of debate ever since the Cuban Revolution and it continues to be one which is why there is no better time to study Cuba. Cuba has a long cultural history which makes it interesting to study and now that the US is finally working with the Cuban government on normalizing relations, more scholars will be traveling to Cuba. More information about Cuba and the Cuban culture will become available as the US moves to being better neighbors. This is important for researchers and others to gain new insights on Cuba which have not been available for the past fifty to sixty years. I am fascinated by the royal family so the Palace of Versailles is deemed suitable because it is the home of the monarchy of France. I began my virtual tour of the most famous room known as the Hall of Mirrors. As you walk through the room, you can see chandeliers after chandeliers lined the center of the ceiling and to the sides. The room is structured like a barrel vault with round arch windows symmetric to the mirrors reflecting the garden. Golden sculptures of women are placed in between the mirrors against the marble wall. The vaulted ceilings are covered with illustrations of the success of France painted by Le Brun. He also decorated the roomsso his artistic vision can be seen everywhere. My initial reaction of the room was that it is very elegant and magnificent. I ve never seen anything so spectacular before. The Growth Of The Economy Essay Showtime in late 1950 s Minsky started warning about the gradual shift of the economy from a very robust financial system that was stable and with no financial crisis in the early postwar period. He had called with his analysis that gradually over time debts in the private sector would tend to build up and increasingly risky financial innovations would increase over time. He is very famous for the statement that stability itself is destabilizing. Although things seem very stable today, gradually over time that stability would build confidence to take increasingly risky positions in assets. The model that he had built explains financial crisisin the economic system. He brings up that supply of credit increases during boom and abruptly decreased during economic slowdown. It seems almost intuitive that from a standpoint of an investor the great time to invest is when the economy is booming to increase his or her profitability. Lenders as the investors become increasingly optimistic about their return and they both become less sensitive to risk. But when the economy starts slowing down investors sell out their holding to not to lose more of their assets making the economy even worse off. All of the New Deal structure that have been put in place in the economy during the great depression, tremendous buildup of government debt during World War II gave a very safe asset for the private sector. It is estimated to affect about 1% of the population, but this value may vary regionally and based on the diagnostic testing used (Biagi, et al., 2010). Variations in the gens expressing human leukocyte antigens DQ2 and DQ8 are strongly associated with the disease and while these variations do not necessarily lead to coeliac disease, there are essentially no cases of coeliac disease without these variations. Further, coeliac disease may also manifest itself in dermatitis herpeiformis, a severe skin rash. Coeliac disease is usually diagnosed through endoscopy of the duodenum or intestinal biopsy while the patient is on a gluten containing diet, or through serological or genetic testing (Alaedini Green, 2005). The only therapeutic option for affected individuals is a life long gluten free diet and in over 95% of case this leads to an abatement of symptoms within weeks, but regeneration of the duodenum may take more than 12 months (Lee, et al., 2003). How Molecules Move Across The Gradient Lab Report Trying to Diffuse the Tension: How Molecules Move Across A Gradient Introduction Diffusion is defined as the, process by which molecules intermingle as a result of their kinetic energy of random motion. (Nave, n.d.). By random motion, it means that no energy input is needed for the molecules to move across the gradient. In the example of potassium iodide and the cornstarch, the potassium iodide moved across the gradient which caused the cornstarch to take on the purplish color. Osmosis is the diffusion within water in which a semi permeable membrane allows for a higher concentration solution to diffuse across said membrane into the lower concentration solution. Osmosis drives most biological processes allowing for equilibrium to be met and the transportation of molecules to occur (Nave, n.d.). However, larger biological molecules cannot pass through semipermeable membranes such as sucrose and starch ( GCSE Biology... , n.d.). Within this experiment, the percent change of weight must be calculated to be able to quantitatively define the concentration movement of the molecules across the gradient. The equation for the percent change in weight is: % change in weight = [(change in weight)/(initial weight)] * 100 This equation allows for one to be able to identify if the change in weight is significant to a given experiment. Katherine Mansfield uses an extensive range of language techniques to portray the lonely and slightly delusional spinster; Miss Brill. The story of Miss Brill is an extremely good example of how a writer can use different language techniques to reveal a variety of aspects of the character. The author uses characterisation through the language techniques to reveal a variety of truths to the reader about Miss Brill s personality. Mansfield uses the language techniques to express the theme of connectedness throughout the story. Mansfield also uses symbolism, setting and point of views by the different characters in her story to create a clear scene and atmosphere for the readers. Symbolism is very important throughout the short story as it illustrates a vivid understanding of who Miss Brill is, which is easily expressed through the relationship between Miss Brill and her fox fur. • 22. Great Wave Off Kanagawa Essay An art work has many elements and principles to it. These are known as elements and principles of design. The print The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has many elements and principles of design that show how much the artist used them in his work. The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has all the elements of design. For example, one of the best aspects of the print is Hokusai s utilization of line to create both motion and space in the wave (NGA). The curves of the wave and body of one boat drop just low enough to allow the base of Mount Fuji to be visible, and the white top of the great wave creates a diagonal line that leads the viewer s eye directly to the peak of the mountain top (Harris). The dramatically curved, upwards line of the wave frames the mountain, whilst the jagged ends act as claws which almost personify the waves into a hunter grasping at its prey; the frail, delicate fishing boats seem to have no chance against the water (Ladkin). There are many ways in which Hokusai uses line in The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Another element of design that Hokusai uses in The Great Wave is shape. For example, there are small C shaped fingers of water that are thrown forward of the great curve as it arcs to its thunderous completion (CC). The threatening wave is about to splash down and take over the boats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its dimensions are 10 1/8 x 14 15/16 in. (Metropolitan Museum of Art). The dramatically curved line of the wave perfectly frames the distant Mount Fuji, and is suspended in time like a huge paw with multiple foam claws about to grasp the frail fishing boats (Louviq). While she easily embodies into the innocence and grace of the White Swan, her shy and fragile personality does not fit the seductiveness and mysteriousness of the Black Swan. As a result, she struggles to become the opposite of who she is, worsening her issues with depression and anorexia. In the beginning of the film, Nina was depicted as an average, normal person living in New York that yet lacked the freedom to express herself as a sexually free, young woman due to her mother s controlling behavior. When she wins the coveted Swan Queen role, the feeling of immense pressure that comes with the role causes Nina to lose her tenuous grip on reality and descend into a living nightmare. For example, she experiences symptoms such as interpreting normal behavior from Lily as an attack because of Nina s jealousy toward Lily s effortless embodiment of the Black Swan (Schacter, Gilbert, Wegner, Nock, 2014). Nina s attention to negative behavior to Lily is a result of her own imagination she starts conceiving events that did not happen such as a lesbian fling with Lily and her constant attempts to sabotage Nina s ability to perform as the Swan Queen. In addition, she suffers through hallucinatory episodes that involve bodily horror, such as her skin tearing off her body and the appearance of an evil twin, every time she reaches a step closer to her full transformation of the Swan Queen. In addition, she has developed an eating disorder called anorexia nervosa to meet the standard body image required for dancers. While her loss of appetite only becomes worse as the film progresses, this issue seems to have existed before the events of the Swan Lake production. There are many challenges in wireless networks as explored in [1]. The challenges are as follows. Wireless channel conditions are unpredictable and unreliable. As wireless medium is shared, it may result in contention. There might be issues with hidden terminal problem. Route maintenance and node mobility may cause issues. Energy constrained nature of the wireless networks. Having no centralized control on the networks Due to the innovations in wireless technologies and recent developments in electronic circuits, there is ever increasing trend in the usage of mobile devices that are part of wireless networks. People of all lifestyles are using different kinds of mobile devices. In this context, there has been increased research in the multimedia applications that run over wireless networks. As the multimedia applications are resource intensive, they are to be used with certain optimizations. The wireless networks are not optimized for such applications. The OSI model was also not designed by keeping multimedia applications in mind. Therefore, individual layers of OSI model can be optimized or jointly they can be optimized. The joint optimization is known as cross layer design (CLD) approach. The cross layer design approach considers two or more layers to be improved for different parameters. Each layer needs inputs from the application ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Catholic Church During The Middle Ages And Through The... Beginning in the Middle Ages and through the seventeenth centuries, witch trials occurred in Europe. Many people were accused of being witches some of these people were accused of being witches for not following Christian beliefs at that time and others followed witch prosecutions for goods and money. Furthermore, the stereotypes of witches at this period also had a role in causing witch prosecutions. In this essay I argue how these three components led to the death of so called witches. Firstly, I will discuss how the Catholic Church had an impact on most prosecutions. Secondly, I will explain how social stereotypes of that period have also influenced with the causes of prosecution of many alleged witches. Thirdly, I will discuss how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to understand the meaning of witchcraft to be able to identify what caused the massive witch hunt in Europe. During the medieval to the early modern period witchcraft was identified as the practice of harmful, black or maleficent magic caused by a witch (Levack, 1987, p. 4). They also describe them as evildoers that associate with the Devil, kidnap children, and murder others. These accusations were untrue rumors made by the Catholic Church to promote Christianity and punish those who did not follow the church beliefs. (Levack, 1987, p. 7) Furthermore, Witches were commonplace all over the world with different stigmas and stereotypes attached to them from each respectful culture that contained them (Girard, 1986). It was not until the rise of the Catholic Church that witches soon became associated with black magic and the Devil, leading to mass prosecutions. In the Middle Ages there was a popular belief that demons walked the Earth, leaving disease and devastation in their wake. The church, feeling threatened by the ideologies of Witchcraft, decided to link the old Pagan religion with that of Satanism (Levack, 1987). By doing so, they were able to gather favor from the masses by taking advantage of the fear of the Devil by the public and using it to prosecute those who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This Elizabethan Settlement lasts to this day. Only a great leader could think of something so effective. Her idea has lasted for centuries. Not only was Elizabeth a great leader when it came to religion but her military accomplishments were also overwhelming. During this time, England s main concern was to limit Spain s power. So Spain and England went to war. England fought against the Spanish Armada. Sir Francis Drake led the English Fleet to a great victory. When the fight was over, only half the Spanish Armada returned, whereas every single English ship returned to England. This defeat was one of the greatest ever for England. Before this, Elizabeth had kept England out of war for 27 years. For more than three centurys, Englands ships ruled the water. After the war, Elizabeth made a friendship with Spain. Elizabeth also made many treaties with surrounding countries. England became the foremost power in Europe. Even Englands enemies loved Elizabeth. This woman changed the balance of power in Europe during her reign. Elizabeth proved to be a successful and a well accomplished leader who advanced her country socially, militarily, religiously and economically. Maggot Therapy Volume 3, Issue 2, March 2009 Diabetes Technology Society Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology REVIEW ARTICLE Maggot Therapy Takes Us Back to the Future of Wound Care: New and Improved Maggot Therapy for the 21st Century Ronald A. Sherman, M.D., M.Sc., D.T.M.H. Abstract In the 21st century, eighty years after William Baer presented his groundbreaking work treating bone and soft tissue infections with live maggots, thousands of therapists around the globe have rediscovered the benefits of maggot therapy. The renaissance in maggot therapy is due in large part to recent technological advancements that have solved or minimized many of the treatment s earlier drawbacks: the need for reliable access to this perishable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But before those studies could be carried out, and before widespread use of maggot therapy was imaginable, several technical challenges first had to be overcome. History of Maggot Therapy Early Observations For centuries, the beneficial effects of maggot infested wounds were noted by military surgeons who observed that injured soldiers abandoned on the battlefield fared better and that their wounds healed faster when those wounds were infested with maggots.7 Himself having observed maggot infested wounds during his service in World War I, the orthopedic surgeon, William Baer, was the first to apply maggots systematically to nonhealing wounds while a professor at Johns Hopkins and Children s Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Baer presented his preliminary results in 1929,8 and his entire work in maggot therapy treating over 100 children with osteomyelitis and problematic soft tissue wounds was published posthumously in 1931.9 Technological Advancements That Have Optimized Maggot Therapy Within 5 years of Baer s groundbreaking work, over 1000 American, Canadian, and European surgeons were using maggots in their practice.10 Many hospitals operated their own insectaries for rearing and disinfecting the larvae. Rise and Fall of Maggot Therapy in the 1930s The three most common objections to maggot therapy during the 1930s were the hassle of making dressings, the difficulty in obtaining viable, germ free ... • 46. The Contamination Of The Spinach Field Essay We all know that poor and dirty conditions lead to the accumulation of bacteria and other health risking factors. It is a violation of policy for health codes. This can be seen in the Mountain View Farms most likely due to the fact that they grew the spinach in unfavorable conditions. There is a possibility that the spinach field came into contact with the STEC O157:H7 through outside sources due to the fact that they were exposed in dangerous conditions in outside environments instead of being grown in a facility that is enclosed. In order to save and cut costs of manufacturing spinach, the farm most likely planted their spinach outside. While this practice is common, it is also unsafe as pollutants from other manufacturing companies and farms can wash down into the spinach field. In this scenario, according to the map of nearby industries, there are a few sources that could have exposed the spinach field to STEC O157:H7. The Floyd s Pork Farm is the most suspected source as the dangerous strain of E. Coli can be contracted from the animals through their food source and passed through their fecal matter. The feces are then washed into nearby water systems by the rain and might not be filtered and processed completely before being used. In this case, the water that was infected is being used for the irrigation system to water and grow the spinach and other crops. Now the spinach has the E. Coli strain and then being harvested to be bagged and sold off to the consumers. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
