Dyeing Studies of Wool Fibers with Madder
In this study, the dyeing behavior of wool fabrics with madder has been studied. Also, the effect of
different mordants (potassium dichromate, stannous chloride, alum, ferrous sulphate, lime, copper (I,
II) sulphate, cobalt chloride, and nickel chloride) as well as three mordanting procedures namely pre ,
meta and post mordanting on color characteristics of the dyed samples has been investigated. The
adsorption isotherm of madder on wool fibers was found to follow Freundlich type of adsorption. The
addition of salt and acid (pH 4.5) to the dyebath resulted in an increase of adsorption. In relation to
mordanting tests, the use of different mordants and mordanting procedures gave various color
characteristics on dyed wool fabrics. The results showed that all the dyed samples, mordanted and
unmordanted, were in the first quadrant of CIEL*a*b* color space. Mordants such as potassium
dichromate, ferrous sulphate and copper (I, II) sulphate led to the darker and lower chromaticity
compared to unmordanted dyed sample while mordants stannous chloride, alum resulted in the lighter
and higher chromaticity values. Mordanting with the chlorides of cobalt and nickel showed the
minimal color difference (∆E) with the unmordanted dyed sample. The fastness properties indicated
that in general wash and light fastness of the mordanted samples were higher than the unmordanted
one.

The modern musical I watched in comparison to Singing in the Rain was Across the Universe. Seeing
how the themes and technical aspects of Across the Universe are much different than those of Singing
in the Rain, I was surprised to find out that there were various similarities in multiple musical numbers
between the films. The musical number from Across the Universe that I chose was I ve Just Seen A
Face, because it s style reminded me of the title song from Singing in the Rain. In I ve Just Seen A
Face, the character Jude spots his love interest, Lucy, for the first time and instantly falls for her.
Although I ve Just Seen A Face has much more upbeat, folk style than that of Singing in the Rain, the
overall feeling to the numbers share similarities. For example, both songs are sung at interesting
locations. Don is walking home in the pouring rain, and Jude is with new found friends at the bowling
alley. Don begins by daydreaming around in the rain, seen at 0:48; and Jude does the same at the alley,
seen at 0:20. Both lose touch with their surroundings because they are overrun with the feeling of
love. Jude walks right through other people s tracks, and Don waves at passersby who are not waving
at him. Both Jude and Don are both so happy, that they seem to forget the rest of the world. At 1:44 in
Singing in the Rain, Don looks up towards the sky and closes his eyes, continuing to sing. Similarly, at

Tollbooth was taught a something that they didn t was valuable at the time, but later in life found that
it was something that helped him. As we grow up we question a lot of the things that we are taught,
like how is it going to help us in the future. For me it was treating others the way you want to be
treated. To me I thought that we should treat others the way they treat us. My family tried to show me
that that wasn t the answer and that nothing is going to work if you don t know how to move on from
what they have done for you. Today I m in highschool and I can tell you that treating others the way
you want to be treated rather than treating them like they treated you is very important. People mature
and learn from their mistakes and often need to be accepted into a different group. Some kids don t
