The Ramayana and Sita Sings the Blues
The Ramayana and Sita Sings The Blues
Art is a form of expression that lives on for centuries but changes in interpretation over time. What
may be relevant in this time period may make no sense to the upcoming generations. Nina Paley s film
Sita Sings the Blues brings two cultures, traditions, values and time periods together to convey her
message and bring relevance of her art across many cultures and generations. The Ramayana by
Valmiki on the other hand is a very traditional epic which depicts the ideal of every relation, one ideal
example being the wife of Rama, Sita. Idealistically, a wife in Indian culture is to stick to her husband

In the Ramayana, Sita does everything in her power to be with the person she devoted herself to. She
burned herself alive, thus going great extents for him. All her actions are socially acceptable at that

husband but her boyfriend who did not treat her great from the beginning. According to the new

Animal Experiments And Its Effects On Human Suffering And...
Some people support animal experiment and believed the results of those testings can ease human
suffering and improve the quality of human life (Kruse, 2001). Many medical achievements in the past
century have depended directly or indirectly on animal researches. The develop of the treatment of
diabetes, leukaemia and heart surgery transplants have been made possible largely through the use of
animals in scientific researches. And 90% of the public accepted the need for the use of animals when
certain research conditions were met, including no unnecessary pain and suffering of animals, the
research is for serious medical or life saving purposes, and there is no reliable and informative
alternative to the testing. All researches needed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, using animals in research may wasting money and resources. According to the Cruelty Free
International, 95% of drugs fail in human trials despite promising results in animal tests which suggest
the results from animal testing may unreliable, and the US drug industry invests 50 billion US dollar
per year in research, but the approval rate of new drugs is the same as it was 50 years ago. Beside
these, animals have a physiologically different with humans, they do not get some of the diseases that
human do, for example Parkinson s disease, major types of heart disease, many types of cancer,
Alzheimer s disease, HIV and schizophrenia. And using animals in medicine research may caused
fatal dangerous. For example, Vioxx (drug used to treat arthritis) was tested on monkeys and five other
animal species and found to be safe, but has been caused around 320,000 heart attacks and strokes,
and 140,000 deaths worldwide.
Because of the different perception on support or refuse animal experiment, conflict happened
between organisations, people and government (Cruelty Free International).
Most animal welfare groups willing to work with researchers to improve the conditions for animals in
laboratories and to promote animal right concept with gentle action, for example peaceful

Classification and Assessment of Aridity over Pakistan...
3. Results and Discussion
The aridity maps was prepared by using De Martonne s Aridity Index, Thornthwaite s Precipitation
Effectiveness Index, Thornthwaite s Moisture Index, UNESCO Aridity Index and Erinc Aridity Index.
These indices showed that most of the southern parts of the country lie between arid to hyper arid
where as northern parts lie between semi arid to very humid zone (Fig 3). Analysis shows the climate
of northern parts is more variable as compare to southern parts. The reason in the variability of the
climate in the northern parts is that this region received rainfall in summer due to monsoon systems
(July to September) and in winter due to western disturbances (December to March). Southern parts of
the country receive most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is quite unfortunate for our agriculture that evaporative demand and water requirement for crops
in whole southern parts of the country is very high as compare to northern parts and it is very difficult
to carry out the agricultural activity in these regions.
Climate variability and change profoundly influence social and natural environments throughout the
world, with consequent impacts on natural resources and industry that could be large and far reaching.
Climate change due to global warming not only started to impact the weather pattern but also
influence the agriculture sector in Pakistan. Pakistan is an agriculture whose majority of the
population depends upon agriculture. Glaciers are the big fresh water sources for Pakistan which
fulfills the water demands in the agriculture land while rainfall fulfills the water requirement of the
barani areas. An increase in temperature was observed in the country especially during the last few
decades which accelerate snow melting on glaciers. The increased rate of glacial melting in Himalayas
has caused vast lakes to develop, and if these lacks outburst, these can inundate towns and villages
below. There is high level of confidence that recent regional changes (rising tendency) in temperature
have discernable impacts on precipitation, evaporation, stream flow, runoff and other elements of
hydrological cycles (Elshamy et al., 2006).

An example of the type of service demands that Exodus encounters occurred when the Webmasters of
the RollingStone.com, the website of Rolling Stone magazine, had difficulty trying to solve a slow
response time problem just a day before the publication of a multimedia cover story on Britney
Spears. This would obviously cause a spike in demand that would exacerbate the response time
problem. Since Exodus was hosting and maintaining the site, its engineers helped in solving the
problem, which involved incorrect configurations data that caused server to use 10 to 15 seconds to
refresh domain name data every few minutes instead of daily. Approximately 400 of its customers(
12% of its customer base of 3300 companies) are application service providers (ASPs) that run
application software for other firms using remote servers linked to a WAN so that those firs no longer
have to install and maintain the software. Exodus charges for service based on usage, and this fits well
with an ASP charging scheme. Its ASP customers range from start ups to established software firms
such as PeopleSoft and Oracle s Business Online. According to Ellen Hancock, it s very hard to say
what you re not doing, but we ve spent a lot of time trying to do that. We say we re not going to know

Iran Contra Affair Case Study
I. Foreign Policy Puzzle
The Iran Contra Affair in the 1980 s not only caused a disruption in our nation, but also tarnished the
name of President Ronald Reagan. The Iran Contra Affair involved two parties, the Contras, a rebel
group in Nicaragua fighting against their communist government, and Iran. The deal in Iran was a
trade to help negotiate the retrieval of American hostages located in Lebanon. During this period of
time, President Reagan approved the operation that involved the selling of missiles to Iran during an
arms embargo (Hunter, 2012). It was also said by President Reagan that as a country we would not be
rewarding terrorists by any means. One of the bigger issues regarding the money going to the Contras
was the fact that there was no congressional approval (Hurwitz et al., 1989). After the Iran Contra
affair came into the light, President Reagan denied that he knew about the selling of the arms and then
money from the deal, going to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Psychology
Often, people may look at a scenario and not really define what psychological factors that may have
been the root of why decisions have been made. There are quite a few aspects of psychology Reagan
possessed and could have contributed to his thought process when making foreign policy decisions, in
this case, the Iran Contra affair. The main areas of President Reagan s psychology that will be
highlighted are the Big Five personality traits, specifically extraversion, emotional stability,
conscientiousness, and his need for power.
One of the first areas of Reagan s psychology that plays an important role in Ronald Reagan s
psychology are the Big Five personality traits. The Big Five personality traits consist of: extraversion,
openness to experience, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and neuroticism, also understood as
emotional stability (Taber et al., 2013). The main areas of the Big Five personality traits that will be

Letter To Daughter Case Analysis
It is with great grief that I write you this letter in regards to the passing of your daughter. I wish that
my sincere condolences would suffice during your painful trials, however, considering the
circumstance, neglecting to explain to you the reasoning for the actions that took place on the ship
would be unjust on my part. My dear friends, you are at least owed an explanation for the tragic
sacrifice of your daughter, of which I intend to give you. The motives behind the mission in question
were as follows; 6 colonist nursing terminal illnesses awaited the serum carried in the EDS dispatched

and when reviewing the reasonable consequences to be expected; the death of these 7 men, against the
additional hours of life we could have given Marilyn by allowing her to stay we made the practical
choice. Please do not resent Mr. Barton, I must urge that he did everything in his power to save your
daughter within reason and exhausted all possibilities. He even increased the speed of ship to decrease
fuel consumption and bide her more time. Inevitably, there was no other choice but to jettison

government required other churches to pay taxes that went to support their Church. He wanted Church

Hiv And The Human Immunodeficiency Virus
HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) is a lentivirus that results in AIDS (acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome). HIV attacks and destroys CD4 helper lymphocyte cells a specific type
of immune system cell. As a result, the body has a harder time fighting off other infections, making
minor illnesses more severe. The virus will go further to use those CD4 cells to create more of the
virus. Once so many CD4 cells have been destroyed, HIV will become AIDS.
This stage, the final stage, will make the recipient more vulnerable to infections and cancers. HIV
goes through multiple phases until reaching this point, however, the progression of each stage can be
prolonged with ART medication (antiretroviral therapy) or other forms of treatment, ... Show more

Initially, the virus was thought to be connected to homosexuals, and HIV even had multiple names
relating to the word gay . Though bisexual and homosexual men are the most affected, with further
research and additional information, researchers realized HIV was affecting other populations as well.
In September of 1982, the virus was finally named AIDS. In 1983, the HIV virus was isolated,
identified, and soon confirmed as the cause of AIDS.
Now, approximately 36.7 million people in the world are living with HIV, more than 1.2 million of
those people are in the United States. Many of the infected people are not even aware they have
contracted the virus. It is estimated that 80% of the infected experience flu like symptoms shortly after
contracting HIV, however, once those symptoms subside, they may not experience more symptoms for
several years.
Depending on the stage of the virus, different symptoms will occur. The first stage, the acute infection,
is the one in which flu like symptoms begin to occur. They will occur anywhere between two to six
weeks after infection and may last several weeks, or even months. This is caused by the increase of
HIV levels in the blood. CD4 cells begin to quickly decline during this stage, causing the immune
system to kick in, making the CD4 count rise once again, but not back to its original count. During the

Philosophy Doctoral Program at Stanford University
I wouldn t be doing philosophy if I didn t think it progressed, and that we know now more than we did
a century ago. For that reason, I don t view its history as a story of the clash of defensible but
irreconcilable views, from which the most we can expect is a sympathetic understanding of how
things looked to the participants. (Scott Soames) For the value of the history of philosophy . . . lies not
only in the fact that we can learn from our predecessors how to address in different ways the questions
that concern us, but also in the fact that we can learn from them how to ask different questions, or how
to ask our questions differently. (Paul Franks)
These quotes provide different pictures about the history of philosophy. The notion of progress plays a
key role in Soames account. Because we know more now than we did in the past, Soames claims the
history of philosophy should involve a careful analysis of both the achievements and insights that have
allowed the field to progress as well as the missteps which have frustrated this process. Soames would
have history vindicate our current philosophical understanding. Paul Franks, on the other hand, wants
to problematize this straightforward account of how we progressed from the past to the present. He
does this by leaving open the possibility that important questions may cease to be raised and that

Food, Fashion, And Lifestyle During The Elizabethan Era
The Elizabethan Era was the time between 1558 1603, and it was commonly known as the golden age
in English history. This time period is called the Elizabethan Era because Elizabeth I was the queen at
the time, and was a very influential leader. The Elizabethan Era was part of the Renaissance, or
rebirth, which brought many new creative ideas and new ways of thinking to the people of England.
These ideas brought about new style trends, class separations, and cuisine. These things greatly
influenced the people who lived during this time period in many ways. Food, fashion, and style had a

Theme Of Honor In Henry IV
Honor is a prominent theme in William Shakespeare s play Henry IV. The concept of honor
continuously surfaces and is questioned throughout the play. It s made evident that honor is subjective;
Every character has their own definition of it. Shakespeare doesn t discern a concrete definition of
honor, it s perceived in various ways by the characters in the play. It s a reflection of the character s
conscience and morality. Some relate it to noble behavior a, while others, associate it with one s
physical capabilities and achieving glory on the battlefield. The play manifests that honor can be
perceived as tangible, rather than a concept. Honor is mentioned for the first time by King Henry,
when he praises Hotspur after he defeats Douglas in the battle Holmedon. Henry states In this passage,
he is referring to Earl of Douglas demise. He mentions that Hotspur has taken Douglas son Mordake,
the Earl of Fife; and the Earls of Athol, Murray, Angus, and Menteith prisoner. Harry brags to his
kinsman about what an honorable and impressive catch it was, as if Hotspur was his son. The text can
be interpreted as King Henry seeking validation for his claim. In the way he says, Is not this an
honorable spoil? A gallant prize? Ha, cousin, is it not? repeatedly asking his kinsmen if Hotspur s act
was an honorable one. As if he s trying to convince everyone of what an honorable man should be.
Asking, Here, he speaks of how envious it makes him that the Percy s have such an honorable son

Seven Layers in the OSI Model
1. This class made me learn quite a lot. Though it was a course I have done in my under graduate, this
class helped me to learn more about the networking. The class was interactive and fun, the lab
sessions were very helpful. The project was one of the best parts of the whole course. It made me look
into and study about various new protocols in networking and finally I could get an idea on how I
could design a protocol by myself. The most important thing I learnt in this class is the detailed
functions and uses of every later in the OSI model, and I also realized that TCP is the most important
protocol of all that I learnt. It is very reliable and provides acknowledgement, and is a full duplex
process. It provides congestion control and flow control and is also a connection oriented service. On
an overall this class made me learn a lot that would always be very helpful to me. 2. The seven Layers
in the OSI model are Physical Layer, Link Layer, Network Layer, Transport Layer, Session Layer,
Application Layer and the presentation Layer. Each layer has a specific function to perform and
consist of different protocols. Physical layer is the lowest one and handles transmission and reception
of messages over the medium. Then comes the link layer , it allows error free transmission of the data
frames in the physical layer. The network layer takes care of processes like routing, traffic control and
fragmentation of the data. The next one is the transport layer, it takes care of the

Peter Singer Animal Liberation Essay
This argument: that rational beings must be considered ends in themselves, was the lifeblood of the
movements of the 1970s that sought to bring oppressed groups under the umbrella of equal moral
consideration. These prolonged and often violent debates revolved around demands for equality
through which oppressed groups could attain their liberation. As such it is not surprising that the
movement for animal liberation stems from these concerns. In fact, they are explicitly allied with
them. Peter Singer s seminal text Animal liberation is deliberately called so to evoke memories of the
fortitude and determination of these earlier movements for human liberation. Singer emphasises
rationality and self consciousness of some animals as evidence ... Show more content on

The author focuses on rising housing costs. Here is where myself and the author begin to part. Unlike
the author I don t believe the answer is this simple. Although the rates as he describes are rising faster
than any other market or minimum wage. One most always look introspectively at a cause first before
looking externally. The problem with blanket statement like: the singular reason is rising costs, is that
it holds blameless those who choose not to better themselves. One of the major problems I see in the
world is a sense of undeserved entitlement. If you can t pay rent in downtown of city my solution is to
look for housing elsewhere. I have moved across the country from my family for years and now am
the closest I have been in over 4 years still 5 hours away. Growing up my housing situation has been
just as unstable as many described in this piece. It was a sense of pride and entitlement that put me in
that situation not rising costs. After leaving home and moving to California I found myself struggling
one day to make rent, I was paying $1,800 a month just for rent let alone a car payment and utilities.
Although this was unexpected and due to something I could not control I had to remedy the situation I
cut back on unnecessary expenses, moved when my lease finished and now I refuse to ever be in that
situation again. I am now here at UW Madison pursuing an education that will allow me to be
financially stable for the rest of my life. If I can make it with all of the setbacks I have had in my life,
why shouldn t we encourage others to do the same? Minimum wage although it should cover expenses
for housing we all know doesn t and we adjust our sights to accommodate for that. We get an
education and better ourselves and those around us. This allows us the lives we want to live. In closing

Roosevelt s Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine Essay
Before considering Professor X s assertion that the Roosevelt Corollary actually corrupted the Monroe
Doctrine s benevolent intent, it is worth considering whether or not the Monroe Docterine was as
benevolent as the unnamed professor seems to suggest. Professor X considers Monroe s 1823 Doctrine
an act of benevolence, in which an increasingly dominant world power generously extends protection
over its continental neighbors. Yet the Professor ignores the inherently imperialistic subtext that is
contained within the Doctrine, and thus his comparison of the Monroe Doctrine to the Roosevelt
Corollary omits a fundamental aspect of America s colonialist history.

fundamentally undermined any larger political benevolence the Monroe Doctrine contained.

How far do you agree that the years 1945 55 saw only limited progress in improving the status of
African Americans?
The years of 1945 55 saw limited progress in improving the status of African Americans to an extent;
however, during this time period there was also an increased amount of progress for the African
American community in improving their status. There were many key factors, which contributed to
improving the status of African Americans, such as the work of key civil right parties, for instance the
NAACP and their approach to increase grass roots activism, and their increased membership shows
their wide support. In addition to this, there was also help from economic and political victories which

Also, American Presidents begin to recognise the political power of Northern Blacks, so in 1949
William Haist was appointed a federal judge. This suggests that the American legal system has the
potential to be impartial towards African Americans and the Federal Government regarded them as
important voters. In addition, the impact of the American Economy played a huge role; in improving
the status of African Americans as by 1945 the number of unemployed African Americans in the north
fell sharply from 937,000, to 151,000. This is evident for an increase in better standards of living, this
is supported by the fact that 40per cent of housing in Washington was found to be sub standard. As a
result of these factors, it showed that there was some economic and political progress during 1945 to
1955.
Furthermore, during this time period, there was numerous court cases against Jim Crow laws and
segregation, which resulted in a substantial amount of de jure change, in favour of the African
Americans. For instance, in 1950 there was the case of Sweatt v. Painter; Heman Sweatt was refused
admission to the University of Texas Law School. The case was brought to the Supreme Court, and
they ruled that Heman Sweatt was allowed to study law at the Texas College, as the black college had

Art Or Art Essay
The concept of art is very complex, and the question What is art? tends to not have a certain answer.
However, most agree that art is any form of expression, and this statement is what everyone knows art
as. For years, many people have gotten into heated discussions on whether video games could be
considered as art or not. Though these screen based games have been legally recognized as art, the
topic remains a controversy. It is imperative to understand that video games have many artistic
qualities contained within them. These games contain many forms of art, including visual art, music,
and storytelling. Therefore, video games should be considered an art form because of the artistic
efforts that go into making them. Many video games have stories behind that provide a backstory for
the main character and his or her motivation. Video game creators make sure that their games have
complex stories that teach a lesson to the player. An example of this could be seen in game Brothers: A
Tale of Two Sons. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a game where the player has to go on a quest with
the main character s brother to save their dying father (Mellisonos, 1). A story like this is not to simply
be dismissed. It not only provides the player with a way to keep the player occupied, but it also gives
the player insight into his or her own life. The player is able to learn the story through of the two
brothers about the importance of selflessness. Video games that are choice based,

Investigating Flat Planes
Turns out there is a fairly straight forward way to prove conclusively that we do not live on a flat
plane. Simply pick a line of longitude (along which everyone will experience high noon at the same
time, doesn t have to be one perfect line of latitude but each person should measure at high noon on
the same day) and measure the length of the sun s shadow at several points of latitude from directly
under the sun to as far North as you can (must have at least one measurement that is above 75°).
Requirements For Experiment
All the sticks should, of course, be very close to exactly the same length (recommend 2 to 5 meters). I
used 5 meters in my example, taller is better.
The sticks should be placed absolutely plumb (straight up and down). They cannot lean in any
direction.

And now all you have to do is personally verify that this calculator gives you fairly accurate results for
the shadow lengths (I have) and you can be certain that the plane of the Earth simply cannot be flat.
ON A FLAT PLANE
Now let s compare the expected values above with those on a flat plane, which turns out to be trivial
mathematically we don t even need a calculator. We just need to calculate the following:
slope = (distance to sun / distance to stick) length of shadow = (height of stick / slope)
To get this formula we just have to think about two right triangles, using the slope of the first one to
figure out the length of the adjacent side of the second one (height/slope).
Our first right triangle is the one from a point directly under the sun at the top of our stick, over to our
next stick, say at 10° latitude, which is 1109472m for every 10°s latitude and then up to the sun,
finally back down to where we started. Let s assume the sun is ~4000 miles away or

I dreamed of living in a big house like his, with nice new furniture. I wanted my parents to be just like
his caring, loving, and smiling all the time. Richie s parents always seemed to be home. Never once
did Richie come home to an empty house. He always joyfully greeted his mother after school by
tossing his books on the couch, running over to give her a hug, and saying, Mother, dear, I am home.
If I could not have all of this, I decided, I would settle for merely hanging out with the white,
American crowd. After all, Richie Cunningham hung out with white guys at Al s Cafe. To be like
Richie Cunningham, I concluded, was to be American.
Sometimes, after watching Happy Days, I would pull a chair into the cramped little bathroom in our
apartment and look at myself in the cracked mirror above the rusty sink. I always felt sad. In the
cracked reflection, I saw a small face with no blue eyes, no red hair, and no red freckles. I wondered if
my skin would ever fade to the nicer shade of white. I even tried to imitate Richie s clean, accent free
voice and realized that I could not get rid of the Vietnamese influence on my English. As the years
passed, I still lugged that same chair into the same decrepit bathroom, realizing more and more every
year that my dreams of gaining Richie s stature would never come true.
I looked to my Vietnamese parents to see if they shared any characteristics with Richie Cunningham s

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy Research Paper

I found this article very interesting as it talks about the benefits of meditation and how great it affects
our brain as well as how much it required to gain its maximum benefit. It also discusses how
mindfulness based medications could aid in treating various conditions such as depression, stress,
anxiety and chronic pain.
The psychological concept in this article relates mindfulness based cognitive therapy. This form of
therapy helps relapse or reoccurrence of certain conditions, mainly depression, anxiety and stress. This
therapy or how the article would refer to as meditation, teaches individuals how to become more

From past to present; the changing focus of public health by Maria Joyce
Key sections include:
Environment, infectious disease, locating public health, the enlightenment, the Sanitarians, national

The Third Way, new public health.
Public health, the new ideology may be taken to mean the promotion of healthy lifestyles linked to
behaviour and individual responsibility supported by government action; whereas traditionally the
description tended to relate more to sanitary reform and healthy conditions . The chronological

The onus on notification of infectious disease is still seen today in the Control of Disease Act 1984
and the Regulation of the Infectious Diseases 1988. This may have positive benefits to public health,
limiting illnesses such as food poisoning and rapid identification of outbreaks of bacterial meningitis,
measles and other illnesses through prompt notification and medical or environmental intervention.
The role of social conscience however and its manifestation in social control may have been
responsible for dividing communities through encouraging individuals to report their apparently ill
neighbours.
Locating public health
The tradition of public health and inherent understanding of the term, dates back as early as pre
Christian times, classified in five periods or bodies of thought: The Graeco Roman period with
emphasis on water and sanitation, the Medieval emphasis on epidemics, the Enlightenment emphasis
on disease prevalence, the Industrialisation emphasis on working conditions and Modern era emphasis

British Immigration After 1945
Immigration became a significant part of society in the post war period, it redefined the public s
perception regarding culture and attitudes in society. Despite this, it is worth noting that immigration
was not a new phenomenon in 1945. Britain had welcomed refugees in the past, notably the Irish who
became one of the largest groups throughout the 20th century. Many Europeans also sought refuge in
Britain, for example German refugees who fled to Britain in 1930 ; Peter Fryer notes on the existing
black community in Britain since the 16th century. However, the level of immigration after 1945 was
enough to redefine British culture and created an exclusive national identity by where Britishness is
now recognised through the colour of your skin. Race as a concept has also transformed, with culture
being a major element in British society. Politics has also had a major influence, with the introduction
of immigration laws bringing equality among Britain s citizens, although this could highlight the
opinions of the public with the need for legislation to be introduced. The economy thrived with
immigration, noting on the Windrush which allowed the empty gaps in employment to be filled.
However, despite the progress that has been made due to immigration, the reaction of the people wasn
t always as positive, subsequently leading to racial tensions and a lack of respect among the people for
immigration. These aspects are very significant when discussing the development of

The Controversy Between Mercantilism And Free Trade
The controversy that currently swirls around the phenomenon of globalization is to a large extent a
variation on a much older debate between mercantilist supporters of protectionism and liberal
proponents of free trade. In its classic sixteenth century conception, mercantilism was a policy aimed
at increasing the national wealth via the accumulation of precious metals like gold and silver.
Modern mercantilism, or neomercantilism, is focused instead on accumulation of national wealth via a
trade surplus, which is the result of exporting more than one imports. When a country has a trade
surplus, it both accumulates monetary reserves and promotes the development of domestic industries.

Consider the following hypothetical example.
A farmer in Minnesota decides to switch from producing soybeans to growing bananas. His reasoning
is that unlike soybean fields, which are very common in the United States, his banana plantation will
be the only one in the continental
United States. The cold climate in Minnesota will make growing bananas difficult, but he plans to
construct acres of enormous greenhouses in which the temperature, humidity, and soil will be perfect
for growing bananas. Of course, these
Minnesota hothouse bananas will be very expensive, and although a few consumers might be
persuaded to pay the premium price for Minnesota bananas because of their high quality or to support
a local producer, the vast majority of shoppers are likely to continue to buy much cheaper bananas
imported from Central
America. However, the farmer has persuaded his local congressional representative to introduce
legislation imposing high tariffs on imported bananas. If that legislation passes, the cost of the tariff
will be passed onto the consumer, making Central American bananas more expensive and Minnesota

Analysis Of Corporate Governance Disclosure Practices Of...
Research Problem Ever since India opened up its economy to privatization, liberalization and
globalization there has been rapid institutionalization of the corporate sector and private enterprise.
This has quickened the pace of economic growth since 1992. In this changed scenario, the quality of
Corporate Disclosures has been an important factor not only for survival of the companies but also for
influencing the company s ability to raise money from capital market. In recent times, corporate
governance has attracted much attention both in academic literature and press media. Corporate
Governance is related to effective, transparent and accountable administration of affairs of an
institution by its management, while protecting the interest of its stakeholders comprising of the
shareholders, creditors, regulators and the public at large. But the implementation of Corporate
Governance principles is not an easy task. It is a very wide subject and needs a lot of discussion. The
purpose of this study is to analysis corporate governance disclosures practices of listed Companies. As
a medium for communicating information, annual reports generally include two types of disclosures
mandatory and voluntary disclosures. In India, mandatory disclosures are required as per the
provisions of Companies Act 2013(previously according to CA, 1956), and its various sister laws.
Voluntary disclosures are those which are voluntarily disclosed by companies without any compulsion
from any law.

Self-Identity In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Self identity, this is a word that is sewn into the fibers of our very being, but in all reality the true
definition is unknown. This word means the complete opposite of whatever the world has decided for
the meaning, because quite frankly in the end self identity does not revolve around any one self , but
the contrary but works to benefit the masses. Once one discovers who they are they are able to find
their gifts to bless others live and potentially bless them with the gift of identifying themselves. When
we discover ourselves this only leads to discoveries that can provide help or assistance to the world
and other individuals. In the book Anthem by Ayn Rand it is taught by the main character that you
must discover yourself and identify your strengths and weaknesses so that you may prove to the world
that you are beneficial. We learn of a male, the age is unknown, who is looked down upon by his
fellow men who believe that people with intelligence are undesirable and a burden to the rest of the
population. Throughout the book this boy grows though his brain and curiosity grew quicker. So he
was breaking rules and laws left and right. It was then when he discovered that his brain was able to ...

Born In The Big Rains Book Report
Born in the Big Rains, written as an autobiography by Fadumo Korn, tells about a life after being cut.
Human Rights Watch, (2010) Although you may never have experienced female genital
mutilation/cutting, or possibly even heard of it, this terrible undertaking will affect more than three
million girls this year in Africa alone. Fadumo was one of those girls many years ago, screaming as
the blade sliced her lower region and as she grew up, she stepped in in her community to help stop this
procedure harming many young girls. Now, it s time for all of us to take action and move against
female genital mutilation. Female genital mutilation (FMG) is the practice of partially or totally
removing the external genitalia of girls and young women for nonmedical reasons. UNFPA, (2015)
The different ways of saying FGM may confuse some, but they all mean the same thing. Starting off
being called female circumcision didn t last long. People were often very confused because male and
female have very different health implications. One major different between the two is that male
circumcision is used for health benefits, whereas females suffer for no reason. It is rarely called
circumcision anymore for that reason. After being changed to female genital mutilation, many thought
it was implying people were performing the procedure maliciously. Whatever you decide to call it

Logical Fallacies In The Second Commercial
The first two commercials represent logical fallacies as they are subjective appeals. The Lincoln
commercial displays a famous man, admired by many, driving a Lincoln while talking about his
positive opinion of the Lincoln. The video shares no statistical evidence to prove Lincoln
manufactures better cars than other brands. The logical fallacy behind the commercial is that an
example set by a successful person should be followed despite the lack of individuality in making a
decision based on someone else s. The second commercial was a television advertisement in which
Dish Network compared one or multiple anonymous networks to pigs, implying they overcharge.
Although, the commercial never provided support for Dish Network to present its benefits over other
companies. Quality service, channels, packages, and other aspects of a television subscription were
not discussed to explain why one company is worse than the other. The commercial did not discuss
whether Dish Network s prices were better than the company they represented as a pig. The logical
fallacy in the second commercial is an ad hominem because it was offensive without significant
reason. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Schlieffen Plan Research Paper
Schlieffen Plan was the German armed force s arrangement for war against France and Russia. The
Schlieffen Plan was made by Alfred Von Schlieffen, German Head of Staff in 1904. The Arrangement
was changed in 1905 to answer to the two dangers of France and Russia. The Schlieffen Plan was the
operational arrangement for an assigned assault on France once Russia, because of universal strain,
had begun to assemble her powers close to the German outskirt. This prompted to England
announcing war on Germany in 1914. Schlieffen prompted the Kaiser that his arrangement is executed

Learning Through Play And Active Involvement
Introduction
The key messages highlighted in the Foundation Phase are emphasising learning through play, the role
of the adult in relation to balancing adult led and child initiative activities, involving children in
planning, developing children s observation, creative and expressive skills and more use of the
outdoor environment for solving real life problems and experiential learning. All children have the
right to receive a full education and schools must provide an inclusive curriculum that will offer
opportunities for all children to achieve their full potential and receive the experiences they are
entitled to (Framework, 2008). This supports a statement in the United Nations Convention on the
Rights of the Child all children and young people must be provided with an education that develops
their personality and talents to the full (Framework, 2008). School is the time where children develop
most of the skills they will use later in life and therefore it is crucial they benefit from these
educational experiences.
Emphasising Learning through Play and Active Involvement
Play is an important part in a child s learning experience as children learn best from being actively
involved and experimenting. The Foundation Phase wants practitioners to recognise that children learn
through first hand experiential learning in an environment that is relevant to a child s interest. Hall, N.
and Abbott, L. (1992) support this as they suggest not only is play beneficial but also

Disadvantages Of Strategic Planning
Strategic planning is a process that can allows us to both study and conduct simulations of the future.
The process can show hidden opportunities or threats and providing the way to apply on them early.
Strategic planning gives a clear framework with criteria for us to make day to day decisions, It also
help to identify fragmentary and unaligned choices and personal value judgments. This strategic
planning encourages the commitment of the entire HO in order to achieve the planned results and this
is why it is an important element in institutional cohesion. An organization that has better strategic
planning and applies it consistently can help to raise up corporate reputation.
A strategic plan is the systematic way that describes how your company apply the chosen strategy. A
plan list out where an organization is going within few years and how it s going to reach there.
Moreover, the plan is focused on a major function such as a division or a department.
A strategic plan may list out the purpose of helping an organization do a job in better way. This is
because a plan focuses the energy, resources, and time in the organization to meet the same
destination.

Child Marriage Is A Violation Of Children
Child marriage is a forced marriage where the individual or individuals are children and under the age
of 18 who cannot or do not consent to being married (Jelenic Keeley 2013). This essay argues that the
best way to prevent child marriage in Australia is to generate tougher criminalisation laws. The essay
will begin by briefly outlining the extent of child marriage in Australia before going on to illustrate a
case study that expresses the issue. The essay will then argue potential solutions, including means of
tougher criminalisation for offenders. It will further consider the importance of education for children
and touch on methods to raise awareness, before drawing on ways the community can work together
to prevent child marriage. Finally the essay will reflect on the arguments taken and conclude with the
best way to prevent child marriage in Australia.
Child marriage is a violation of children s human rights and often involves physical, emotional,
financial, sexual or psychological pressure and abuse (Levesque 1999). Approximately 14 million
children as young as 8 years of age fall victim to child marriages worldwide each year, robbing them
of their childhood, education and future dreams (Quinell 2015). A study conducted by the National

Molarity Of Hcl
This experiment is designed to demonstrate how to use volumetric tools and how to calculate the
molarity of an unknown based on the usage of these tools. Volumetric tools include burets, pipets, and
volumetric flasks and can be used to react an unknown substance with a substance of known
concentration to find the molarity of an unknown. This specific experiment sought to find the
concentration of an HCl solution by reacting it with a standard NaOH solution. An indicator was
added to show when this reaction had occurred (Beran 2012). The hypothesis predicted that the
molarity of the unknown substance would have a concentration of HCl that lied between .07M and
.09M. This was based on the prelab activity with practice calculations that had numbers ... Show more

This is most likely because the hypothesis was based on the pre lab activity, which had calculations
very similar to the predicted molarity range, though was not actually based on the experiment
performed. Additionally, the standard deviation indicates that the data is quite precise, with a deviation
of only .002. This deviation could be due to slightly inaccurate measurements, potentially caused by
instruments that were not cleaned properly or NaOH not falling into the Erlenmeyer flask when it was
being swished during titration. For example, the buret may not have been rinsed to the fullest extent,
causing minor contamination. However, small errors are inevitable in experiments and can only be
minimized.
Conclusion
This experiment appropriately exemplified how to use volumetric instruments when finding molarity
of an unknown concentration. It also showed how to calculate the molarity of one substance based on
titration recordings. Although the data had small divergence, the data recorded was still fairly precise
due to an experiment with minimal user

Literary Devices Used in the Things They Carried Essay
Literary Devices Used In The Things They Carried
By: Tom Vennemann
The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien expresses the importance of a story truth, as opposed to a
happening truth by use of literary elements in his writing. The novel is about war and the guilt it
leaves on everyone involved in the war. Story truth is not exactly what happened, but uses part of the
truth and part made up in order to express the truth of what emotion was felt, which an important
thematic element in the novel is. The three literary devices he uses to express this are diction, imagery,
juxtaposition, and hyperbole. All of these elements allow the reader to identify emotion that is
expressed in each story, as though that were the complete truth.

Usage of imagery in The Things They Carried is what introduces a reader to the emotion that was felt
by O Brien. In this novel, imagery goes hand in hand with repetition. In The Man I Killed, O Brien is
constantly repeating the image of the boy that he killed in his mind, which allows the reader to get a
clear view of the boy. This is only a story truth, it is true to the reader because that is simply what we
are told to picture. Imagery is important because it describes the setting and place, and what
importance that played in the big picture of O Brien s war. Even though it is not the exact truth, it
expressed truth in the form of emotion. The emotion that his images create in us is similar to the
emotion that O Brien felt at the time of the event.
The exaggeration that O Brien expresses in his story, also known as hyperbole, gives the reader a
feeling of speaking with a man that just experienced the war of his life an hour before you two are

Business Ethics And Corporate Morals
Wall Street Journal
Introduction
Business ethics and corporate morals have been evolving over the years, and continue to do so. These
guidelines are constantly molding and vary as businesses become more integrated. Costco Wholesale
Corporation, is a very successful multinational business, but has had issues in following along with
social responsibility trends that come with advancements in domestic and worldwide partnerships.
Costco was established on September 15, 1983 by James Sinegal, and Jeffrey Brotman. They opened
their first warehouse in Seattle and has since become one among the world s most successful
multinational wholesalers. Costco Wholesale has its subsidiaries operating world wide. The wholesale

This is seen with their issues in maintaining basic human rights within foreign workers, , Costco has
run into issues with corporate social responsibility, due to their lack of consumer product auditing,
false product provisions and affiliation with human rights neglecting subsidiaries.
The wholesale company values its employees, but as a business, it is important to take care of your
customer base. Sadly in retrospect, Costco managed to cause harm to their consumer and further
damage their name within the western market. Most recently Costco s salad consumers within the
United States have been infected with E. Coli. This recent outbreak spread across 7 states, and
according to Business Insider Five people have been hospitalized, and two have developed hemolytic
uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure. . Costco was required to receive assistance and
consultation of the Food and Drug Administration due to the lack of proper produce regulation. Costco
has yet to give an official statement on this issue, but have removed all remaining rotisserie chicken
salad from all stores in the US and stopped further production of the product until further notice for
pandemic protection purposes. The contaminated products have made domestic consumers aware of
Costco s lack of care towards not only auditing through their products but also their lack of knowledge
of subsidiary companies who provide such faulty goods. Due to the state of America s

Factors That Influence Rainfall in the United States
Factors that Influence Rainfall in the United States
A type of precipitation is rainfall and it develops when water vapor condenses into droplets in the
atmosphere thus becoming too heavy to stay suspended in the air so gravity causes them to fall. The
pattern or occurrence of rainfall in the United States or basically anywhere in the world depends on
several factors such as ground elevation, wind directions, location within a continental mass, areas of
low pressure, cool fronts, jet streams and even mountain ranges. For instance mountains have an
influence on wind and wind is an important feature in rainfall, The windward sides of mountainous
islands in the trade wind regime are among the rainiest places on earth, where rains exceed ... Show

When the pressure is high it means that the air s pressure is higher than the pressure of the surrounding
air in the area. A low is where it is lower. This means that where the air is slowly descending the
pressure is high and vice versa. So, as air descends, it warms, which inhibits the formation of clouds.
This means that the air that descends in high pressure area has to get to high altitudes in some way
which is why air actually rises in low pressure areas. Winds tend to blow into low pressure areas
because are moves from higher pressure areas into lower pressure areas. When the wind moves into a
low area the air moves up and eventually cools and rainfall comes about. Also the low pressure that
causes the air to rise has to do with the Criolis Effect, which is the force caused by the Earth s spin
that redirects moving air to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern
Hemisphere. According to meteorologist Tony Pann, who works with Coriolis Effect stated, With the
Coriolis effect, air circulates in patterns that depend on latitude. At the mid latitudes of the USA, most
weather systems move from west to east. However, systems tend to move from east to west near the
poles and in the tropic (Pann). The upslope flow is also related low pressure areas which is basically
the result of air rising and cooling while being forced to ascend to higher terrain.

Transforming Nursing and Healthcare through Information Technology
NURS 6051N 20
July 10, 2015
Adopting New Technologies into Nursing The healthcare system is a continuously evolving spectrum.
Nurses must take great strides in learning and adapting to new technologies to meet the standards of
the health care system. One significant change that has occurred throughout the last few years is the
transition from paper charting to utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems. This technological
change is a major development that has the potential to significantly impact the nursing role and

15). Thus, if possible, emphasizing the simple aspects of the chosen EHR while avoiding excessive
complexity during design will be an important aspect to avoid obstacles in the adoption of the new
practice. As the nurse facilitator, realization that the older generation may be confronted with
difficulty regarding technological innovation is crucial. Providing constructive, and tolerant
instruction will help with successful adaption of the new EHR for these individuals. Adequate training
and instruction, while ensuring user friendly technology was the base of the design for the new EHR
will help ensure simplicity and encourage positive outlook from staff and increase rates of adaptation.
Thus, emphasizing simplicity of use while avoiding complexity will give health care workers a
positive stance on their capabilities regarding the utilization of a new EHR.
Trialability
The fourth aspect of successful implementation is trialability. As described by Rogers (2003),
Trialability is the degree to which an innovation may be experimented with on a limited basis . An
easy way to interpret this aspect is that the more practice, the easier a concept becomes or practice
makes perfect . As the nurse facilitator, one must recognize and understand that adequate training and
available resources are the basis for trialability and success. Thus, the more the nurses who utilize the
new EHR, the faster a successful adaptation occurs. It is during this part of the

Essay on Freedom of Expression in Turkmenistan
Freedom of Expression Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan is one of the most repressive countries in world. For years it has been closed to
independent scrutiny and it strongly violates all the articles which relate to the freedom of expression.
Human rights defenders and activists are continuously scrutinized and threatened with imprisonment
by the Turkmen government. Turkmenistan is ranked by the World Press Freedom Index number 178
out of 180 and has gone down one place since 2013. (www.rsf.org) This ranking is proved by
continuous reports of journalists not being able to operate openly and are harassed by the authorities.

gone up 8 places since 2013 which compared to the counties is a huge jump. However there are still
constant allegations against the freedom of expression. On October 24, 2012 the Tajikistani court
made the decision to shut down the Association of Young Lawyers Amparo which is a leading human

The Importance Of Breast Cancer Monitoring
Early reports of DBT were focused on its routine breast cancer screening role. They have shown its
potential to improve the ability to decrease recall rates and increase cancer detection rates (10).
However the role of DBT in surveillance after treated breast cancer has not been widely studied yet.
To our knowledge, a single published study to date has studied the impact of DBT in surveillance
among patients who received treatment for breast cancer, it has shown a significant decrease in recall
rates compared with standard digital mammography alone (11).
Early second breast cancer detection estimated an absolute breast cancer mortality reduction of 17

Using Data Analysis And Record Keeping
Excel and access are two different programs that are used in data analysis and record keeping. They
both have their advantages and disadvantages of using them but over the years one has grown to
dominate the field of records and analysis. Access is made up of seven major components which are
relationships, queries, forms, reports, modules, tables and macros (Brady Monk, 2009). Due to this
complexity of divisions, using it becomes cumbersome the hence not the right tool for data analysis
unlike excel where you only enter the data in tables. Over the years excel has proven to be the perfect
platform to collect and analyze data on. This is due to constant improvements in data analysis
formulas, graphs, charts and analysis styles the latest one being pivot tables. The greatest advantage of
excel is that it is easily compatible with other business software s hence ability to offer better results.
Giving the ease of entering data in excel the first priority in the hierarchy of its advantages, other facts
that stand out in excel include building great charts using pie charts and graphs. This will help a lot in
the presentation of data collected. Use of conditional formatting is another fact that makes excel stand
out against access. This is because you have the ability to format orders differently depending on
customers or goods ordered. The last very important advantage of excel is the ability to analyze data
and identify different trends of different customers or goods

Mighty Ducks (1992). It is about a youth hockey team, The Mighty Ducks, which are reunited to
represent Team USA in an international competition which takes place in Los Angeles, California. The
main characters are Coach Gordon Bombay played by Emilio Estevez, Charlie Conway played by
Joshua Jackson, as well as all the other members of the team who play pivotal roles in the film.
Mighty Ducks D2 was a film that played a vital role in influencing American born hockey players, and
kids from non traditional hockey markets to try hockey and ultimately want to represent their country
playing hockey. One of the main contributing factors to the movies success was its Entertainment
value. This is comprised of the hook, action, suspense, and TR sequence. The movie opened with a
tremendous hook starting when former minor league player and coach Gordon Bombay rounds up all
the original members of The Mighty Ducks from various areas and background to bring them back
together to play for Team USA in The Junior Goodwill Games. Action was heavily exemplified in all
their games but emphasized when they competed against the bigger, stronger, and heavily favorited
Team Iceland. They battle in the Championship game was filled with not only action but suspense, and
TR sequences. There were many massive hits, and penalties. Also, they traded goals making it hard to
predict who was going to end up

Some people support animal experiment and believed the results of those testings can ease human suffering and improve the quality of human life (Kruse, 2001). Many medical achievements in the past century have depended directly or indirectly on animal researches. The develop of the treatment of diabetes, leukaemia and heart surgery transplants have been made possible largely through the use of animals in scientific researches. Results and Discussion The aridity maps was prepared by using De Martonne s Aridity Index, Thornthwaite s Precipitation Effectiveness Index, Thornthwaite s Moisture Index, UNESCO Aridity Index and Erinc Aridity Index. These indices showed that most of the southern parts of the country lie between arid to hyper arid where as northern parts lie between semi arid to very humid zone (Fig 3). Analysis shows the climate of northern parts is more variable as compare to southern parts. The reason in the variability of the climate in the northern parts is that this region received rainfall in summer due to monsoon systems (July to September) and in winter due to western disturbances (December to March). Southern parts of the country receive most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is quite unfortunate for our agriculture that evaporative demand and water requirement for crops in whole southern parts of the country is very high as compare to northern parts and it is very difficult to carry out the agricultural activity in these regions. Climate variability and change profoundly influence social and natural environments throughout the world, with consequent impacts on natural resources and industry that could be large and far reaching. Climate change due to global warming not only started to impact the weather pattern but also influence the agriculture sector in Pakistan. Pakistan is an agriculture whose majority of the population depends upon agriculture. Glaciers are the big fresh water sources for Pakistan which fulfills the water demands in the agriculture land while rainfall fulfills the water requirement of the barani areas. An increase in temperature was observed in the country especially during the last few decades which accelerate snow melting on glaciers. The increased rate of glacial melting in Himalayas has caused vast lakes to develop, and if these lacks outburst, these can inundate towns and villages below. There is high level of confidence that recent regional changes (rising tendency) in temperature have discernable impacts on precipitation, evaporation, stream flow, runoff and other elements of hydrological cycles (Elshamy et al., 2006). ... Since Exodus was hosting and maintaining the site, its engineers helped in solving the problem, which involved incorrect configurations data that caused server to use 10 to 15 seconds to refresh domain name data every few minutes instead of daily. The Iran Contra Affair involved two parties, the Contras, a rebel group in Nicaragua fighting against their communist government, and Iran. The deal in Iran was a trade to help negotiate the retrieval of American hostages located in Lebanon. During this period of time, President Reagan approved the operation that involved the selling of missiles to Iran during an arms embargo (Hunter, 2012). It was also said by President Reagan that as a country we would not be rewarding terrorists by any means. One of the bigger issues regarding the money going to the Contras was the fact that there was no congressional approval (Hurwitz et al., 1989). • 9. Hiv And The Human Immunodeficiency Virus HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) is a lentivirus that results in AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). HIV attacks and destroys CD4 helper lymphocyte cells a specific type of immune system cell. As a result, the body has a harder time fighting off other infections, making minor illnesses more severe. The virus will go further to use those CD4 cells to create more of the virus. Once so many CD4 cells have been destroyed, HIV will become AIDS. This stage, the final stage, will make the recipient more vulnerable to infections and cancers. HIV goes through multiple phases until reaching this point, however, the progression of each stage can be prolonged with ART medication (antiretroviral therapy) or other forms of treatment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially, the virus was thought to be connected to homosexuals, and HIV even had multiple names relating to the word gay . Though bisexual and homosexual men are the most affected, with further research and additional information, researchers realized HIV was affecting other populations as well. In September of 1982, the virus was finally named AIDS. In 1983, the HIV virus was isolated, identified, and soon confirmed as the cause of AIDS. Now, approximately 36.7 million people in the world are living with HIV, more than 1.2 million of those people are in the United States. Many of the infected people are not even aware they have contracted the virus. It is estimated that 80% of the infected experience flu like symptoms shortly after contracting HIV, however, once those symptoms subside, they may not experience more symptoms for several years. Depending on the stage of the virus, different symptoms will occur. The first stage, the acute infection, is the one in which flu like symptoms begin to occur. They will occur anywhere between two to six weeks after infection and may last several weeks, or even months. This is caused by the increase of HIV levels in the blood. CD4 cells begin to quickly decline during this stage, causing the immune system to kick in, making the CD4 count rise once again, but not back to its original count. During the ... • 10. Statement Of Purpose For Graduate Study Conrad Damstra Statement of Purpose for Graduate Study Philosophy Doctoral Program at Stanford University I wouldn t be doing philosophy if I didn t think it progressed, and that we know now more than we did a century ago. For that reason, I don t view its history as a story of the clash of defensible but irreconcilable views, from which the most we can expect is a sympathetic understanding of how things looked to the participants. (Scott Soames) For the value of the history of philosophy . . . lies not only in the fact that we can learn from our predecessors how to address in different ways the questions that concern us, but also in the fact that we can learn from them how to ask different questions, or how to ask our questions differently. (Paul Franks) These quotes provide different pictures about the history of philosophy. The notion of progress plays a key role in Soames account. Because we know more now than we did in the past, Soames claims the history of philosophy should involve a careful analysis of both the achievements and insights that have allowed the field to progress as well as the missteps which have frustrated this process. Soames would have history vindicate our current philosophical understanding. Paul Franks, on the other hand, wants to problematize this straightforward account of how we progressed from the past to the present. He does this by leaving open the possibility that important questions may cease to be raised and that certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Theme Of Honor In Henry IV Honor is a prominent theme in William Shakespeare s play Henry IV. The concept of honor continuously surfaces and is questioned throughout the play. It s made evident that honor is subjective; Every character has their own definition of it. Shakespeare doesn t discern a concrete definition of honor, it s perceived in various ways by the characters in the play. It s a reflection of the character s conscience and morality. Some relate it to noble behavior a, while others, associate it with one s physical capabilities and achieving glory on the battlefield. The play manifests that honor can be perceived as tangible, rather than a concept. Honor is mentioned for the first time by King Henry, when he praises Hotspur after he defeats Douglas in the battle Holmedon. Henry states In this passage, he is referring to Earl of Douglas demise. He mentions that Hotspur has taken Douglas son Mordake, the Earl of Fife; and the Earls of Athol, Murray, Angus, and Menteith prisoner. Harry brags to his kinsman about what an honorable and impressive catch it was, as if Hotspur was his son. The text can be interpreted as King Henry seeking validation for his claim. In the way he says, Is not this an honorable spoil? A gallant prize? Ha, cousin, is it not? repeatedly asking his kinsmen if Hotspur s act was an honorable one. As if he s trying to convince everyone of what an honorable man should be. Asking, Here, he speaks of how envious it makes him that the Percy s have such an honorable son ... The class was interactive and fun, the lab sessions were very helpful. The project was one of the best parts of the whole course. It made me look into and study about various new protocols in networking and finally I could get an idea on how I could design a protocol by myself. The most important thing I learnt in this class is the detailed functions and uses of every later in the OSI model, and I also realized that TCP is the most important protocol of all that I learnt. It is very reliable and provides acknowledgement, and is a full duplex process. It provides congestion control and flow control and is also a connection oriented service. On an overall this class made me learn a lot that would always be very helpful to me. 2. The seven Layers in the OSI model are Physical Layer, Link Layer, Network Layer, Transport Layer, Session Layer, Application Layer and the presentation Layer. Each layer has a specific function to perform and consist of different protocols. Physical layer is the lowest one and handles transmission and reception of messages over the medium. Then comes the link layer , it allows error free transmission of the data frames in the physical layer. The network layer takes care of processes like routing, traffic control and fragmentation of the data. The next one is the transport layer, it takes care of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Peter Singer Animal Liberation Essay This argument: that rational beings must be considered ends in themselves, was the lifeblood of the movements of the 1970s that sought to bring oppressed groups under the umbrella of equal moral consideration. These prolonged and often violent debates revolved around demands for equality through which oppressed groups could attain their liberation. As such it is not surprising that the movement for animal liberation stems from these concerns. In fact, they are explicitly allied with them. Peter Singer s seminal text Animal liberation is deliberately called so to evoke memories of the fortitude and determination of these earlier movements for human liberation. Although the rates as he describes are rising faster than any other market or minimum wage. One most always look introspectively at a cause first before looking externally. The problem with blanket statement like: the singular reason is rising costs, is that it holds blameless those who choose not to better themselves. One of the major problems I see in the world is a sense of undeserved entitlement. If you can t pay rent in downtown of city my solution is to look for housing elsewhere. I have moved across the country from my family for years and now am the closest I have been in over 4 years still 5 hours away. Growing up my housing situation has been just as unstable as many described in this piece. It was a sense of pride and entitlement that put me in that situation not rising costs. After leaving home and moving to California I found myself struggling one day to make rent, I was paying $1,800 a month just for rent let alone a car payment and utilities. Although this was unexpected and due to something I could not control I had to remedy the situation I cut back on unnecessary expenses, moved when my lease finished and now I refuse to ever be in that situation again. I am now here at UW Madison pursuing an education that will allow me to be financially stable for the rest of my life. If I can make it with all of the setbacks I have had in my life, why shouldn t we encourage others to do the same? Minimum wage although it should cover expenses for housing we all know doesn t and we adjust our sights to accommodate for that. We get an education and better ourselves and those around us. Yet as the century progressed and America began using the Doctrine as the basis of militaristic action, these countries struggled to reconcile the idea of America as an ever present force of veiled imperialism within their own national identity. This deceptively paternalistic hierarchy produced an evaluative system that relegated the recipient of such political protection as inferior, and fundamentally undermined any larger political benevolence the Monroe Doctrine contained. The years of 1945 55 saw limited progress in improving the status of African Americans to an extent; however, during this time period there was also an increased amount of progress for the African American community in improving their status. There were many key factors, which contributed to improving the status of African Americans, such as the work of key civil right parties, for instance the NAACP and their approach to increase grass roots activism, and their increased membership shows their wide support. In addition, the impact of the American Economy played a huge role; in improving the status of African Americans as by 1945 the number of unemployed African Americans in the north fell sharply from 937,000, to 151,000. This is evident for an increase in better standards of living, this is supported by the fact that 40per cent of housing in Washington was found to be sub standard. As a result of these factors, it showed that there was some economic and political progress during 1945 to 1955. Furthermore, during this time period, there was numerous court cases against Jim Crow laws and segregation, which resulted in a substantial amount of de jure change, in favour of the African Americans. For instance, in 1950 there was the case of Sweatt v. Painter; Heman Sweatt was refused admission to the University of Texas Law School. The case was brought to the Supreme Court, and they ruled that Heman Sweatt was allowed to study law at the Texas College, as the black college had significantly worst facilities. • 18. Art Or Art Essay The concept of art is very complex, and the question What is art? tends to not have a certain answer. However, most agree that art is any form of expression, and this statement is what everyone knows art as. For years, many people have gotten into heated discussions on whether video games could be considered as art or not. Though these screen based games have been legally recognized as art, the topic remains a controversy. It is imperative to understand that video games have many artistic qualities contained within them. These games contain many forms of art, including visual art, music, and storytelling. Therefore, video games should be considered an art form because of the artistic efforts that go into making them. Many video games have stories behind that provide a backstory for the main character and his or her motivation. Video game creators make sure that their games have complex stories that teach a lesson to the player. An example of this could be seen in game Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a game where the player has to go on a quest with the main character s brother to save their dying father (Mellisonos, 1). A story like this is not to simply be dismissed. It not only provides the player with a way to keep the player occupied, but it also gives the player insight into his or her own life. Simply pick a line of longitude (along which everyone will experience high noon at the same time, doesn t have to be one perfect line of latitude but each person should measure at high noon on the same day) and measure the length of the sun s shadow at several points of latitude from directly under the sun to as far North as you can (must have at least one measurement that is above 75°). Requirements For Experiment All the sticks should, of course, be very close to exactly the same length (recommend 2 to 5 meters). I used 5 meters in my example, taller is better. Our first right triangle is the one from a point directly under the sun at the top of our stick, over to our next stick, say at 10° latitude, which is 1109472m for every 10°s latitude and then up to the sun, finally back down to where we started. Despite this, it is worth noting that immigration was not a new phenomenon in 1945. Many Europeans also sought refuge in Britain, for example German refugees who fled to Britain in 1930 ; Peter Fryer notes on the existing black community in Britain since the 16th century. However, the level of immigration after 1945 was enough to redefine British culture and created an exclusive national identity by where Britishness is now recognised through the colour of your skin. Politics has also had a major influence, with the introduction of immigration laws bringing equality among Britain s citizens, although this could highlight the opinions of the public with the need for legislation to be introduced. All children have the right to receive a full education and schools must provide an inclusive curriculum that will offer opportunities for all children to achieve their full potential and receive the experiences they are entitled to (Framework, 2008). This supports a statement in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child all children and young people must be provided with an education that develops their personality and talents to the full (Framework, 2008). School is the time where children develop most of the skills they will use later in life and therefore it is crucial they benefit from these educational experiences. Literary Devices Used in the Things They Carried Essay Literary Devices Used In The Things They Carried By: Tom Vennemann The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien expresses the importance of a story truth, as opposed to a happening truth by use of literary elements in his writing. The novel is about war and the guilt it leaves on everyone involved in the war. Story truth is not exactly what happened, but uses part of the truth and part made up in order to express the truth of what emotion was felt, which an important thematic element in the novel is. The three literary devices he uses to express this are diction, imagery, juxtaposition, and hyperbole. Usage of imagery in The Things They Carried is what introduces a reader to the emotion that was felt by O Brien. In this novel, imagery goes hand in hand with repetition. In The Man I Killed, O Brien is constantly repeating the image of the boy that he killed in his mind, which allows the reader to get a clear view of the boy. This is only a story truth, it is true to the reader because that is simply what we are told to picture. Imagery is important because it describes the setting and place, and what importance that played in the big picture of O Brien s war. Even though it is not the exact truth, it expressed truth in the form of emotion. The emotion that his images create in us is similar to the emotion that O Brien felt at the time of the event. The exaggeration that O Brien expresses in his story, also known as hyperbole, gives the reader a feeling of speaking with a man that just experienced the war of his life an hour before you two are speaking. As a result of these advancements, the question of what constitutes the human has become increasingly complex, as the traditional boundaries between human and non human have been significantly blurred. Bio artist Eduardo Kac investigates this post human dilemma by engaging in a new media practice that incorporates cutting edge genetic science and molecular biology to create what he calls transgenic art (Kac, 2009). In this way, Piccinini s ideas about biotechnological advancements are viscerally experienced by the audience whose sensory experience is heightened by the amplified sound of a small animal scurrying across a path, heard from the television monitors mounted on the back wall. The computer generated transgenic animal then runs from screen to screen too rapidly for audiences to observe its mutation, evoking the dizzying pace at which technology is advancing and the implications of genetic engineering on the body. By exhibiting her multichannel installation in a black cube where there is no overt surveillance, perhaps Piccinini is also expressing her concern that we are being kept in the dark about the long term evolutionary effects of these new technologies, which are not always for the better. Factors That Influence Rainfall in the United States Factors that Influence Rainfall in the United States A type of precipitation is rainfall and it develops when water vapor condenses into droplets in the atmosphere thus becoming too heavy to stay suspended in the air so gravity causes them to fall. The pattern or occurrence of rainfall in the United States or basically anywhere in the world depends on several factors such as ground elevation, wind directions, location within a continental mass, areas of low pressure, cool fronts, jet streams and even mountain ranges. For instance mountains have an influence on wind and wind is an important feature in rainfall, The windward sides of mountainous islands in the trade wind regime are among the rainiest places on earth, where rains exceed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the pressure is high it means that the air s pressure is higher than the pressure of the surrounding air in the area. A low is where it is lower. This means that where the air is slowly descending the pressure is high and vice versa. So, as air descends, it warms, which inhibits the formation of clouds. This means that the air that descends in high pressure area has to get to high altitudes in some way which is why air actually rises in low pressure areas. Winds tend to blow into low pressure areas because are moves from higher pressure areas into lower pressure areas. When the wind moves into a low area the air moves up and eventually cools and rainfall comes about. Also the low pressure that causes the air to rise has to do with the Criolis Effect, which is the force caused by the Earth s spin that redirects moving air to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere. According to meteorologist Tony Pann, who works with Coriolis Effect stated, With the Coriolis effect, air circulates in patterns that depend on latitude. At the mid latitudes of the USA, most weather systems move from west to east. However, systems tend to move from east to west near the poles and in the tropic (Pann). The upslope flow is also related low pressure areas which is basically the result of air rising and cooling while being forced to ascend to higher terrain. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They both have their advantages and disadvantages of using them but over the years one has grown to dominate the field of records and analysis. Access is made up of seven major components which are relationships, queries, forms, reports, modules, tables and macros (Brady Monk, 2009). Due to this complexity of divisions, using it becomes cumbersome the hence not the right tool for data analysis unlike excel where you only enter the data in tables. The greatest advantage of excel is that it is easily compatible with other business software s hence ability to offer better results. Giving the ease of entering data in excel the first priority in the hierarchy of its advantages, other facts that stand out in excel include building great charts using pie charts and graphs. This will help a lot in the presentation of data collected. Use of conditional formatting is another fact that makes excel stand out against access.
