Body Snatchers Allegory
The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, directed by Don Siegel, utilized action and a flashback sequence.
At the beginning of the movie, the audience members see a frantic man in a doctor s office saying that
he is sane and tells his accounts of the body snatchers. The screen goes blurry, which indicates that
there is a flashback/story being told. The flashbacks worked in this film because they helped establish
that the story occurred in the past and it s from the main character s Dr. Miles point of view.
There are many arguments whether Invasion of the Body Snatcher is an allegory to the Communist
Movement. Jeff Saporito from ScreenPrism takes a closer look at the film and how it relates to
communism. He states that there were themes of hysteria

Wiping Out Medical Errors
Wiping out medication errors would diminish stumbles and mistakes, however, in the event that errors
were thrown out of it would make it extremely troublesome on medical professionals who might need
to work out exceptionally extensive curative terms. That is the reason numerous associations are
creating composed arrangements expressing which truncations ought not to be utilized and medical
experts are trained to compose clear while utilizing different contractions.
Drug mishaps initially happen to be of critics and detractors of all patients. Pharmaceutical errors and
mistakes are preventable episodes that happen because of a blunder during the time spent endorsing,

With the growing competition in the market, the profitability of the plant had declined which greatly
concerned the top management. After reviewing the situation, it was found that the human element
was the biggest hurdle in achieving the set targets. There was a need to bring in attitudinal change, as
both, the absenteeism and the union interference were high. This union was formed after the workers
had felt that the management was exploiting them. Most of the workers had been there since the
inception of the plant and the turnover was almost negligible. There was a strong union present in the
plant, which was affiliated to INTUC. The plant managers entered into a long term settlement with the
union to set the daily wages and the terms and conditions of work. The long term settlement was
renewed every 3 years. The workers were working in 30 day night shifts in a month. Being a textile
unit, it was a process industry wherein hurdle at one point of the process would stop the whole
production. Moreover, if there were delay in the takeover of the shift, the output of the entire day
would be affected. In the matters of indiscipline, the workers were charge sheeted and dismissed
arbitrarily. In chronic cases, the worker had to wear a badge with a slogan I will not repeat the mistake

Richard IIi, By William Shakespeare
Children bring out the underlying disposition and wicked intentions we all possess. Richard III, by
William Shakespeare, is a tragic play about the Duke of Gloucester who desires to be the king of
England. He does this through the manipulation and murder of many characters, including Queen
Elizabeth s children, Prince Edward and the Duke of York. These children emphasize some of the
adult themes in the play and reveals the devastating nature of these themes. Their characteristics and
deaths all contribute to the emphasis of these themes. Critics Marie Hélène Bisnaught and Michel
Bito, and Vincent Walsh all agree that the murder of Prince Edward and the Duke of York was an
atrocious deed.
Prince Edward and the Duke of York are innocent, precious, and witty. These traits the children
acquire truly highlights the extent of their deaths. Both these children are well beyond their years. This
clear when the Duke of York says I could have given my uncle s grace a flout, / To touch his growth
nearer than he d touched mine (Act II, Scene IV, Line 24 25). The young duke cleverly insults his
uncle s height and manners essentially saying that Richard is a short, disrespected man. The children s
innocence is also evident through the perspective of their mother and uncle. In the scene when Richard
III greets his nephew, Prince Edward, he says Sweet prince, the untainted virtue of your years / Hath
not yet dived into the world s deceit (Act III, Scene I, Line 7 8). Prince

Bill Bradley Leadership Qualities
To reiterate, Bill Bradley s virtues of leadership, hard work, and respect are what account most for his
accomplishment as a citizen athlete. Bradleys first virtue is leadership. He was a leader on and off the
court, and he had this trait instilled in him since a little boy ( Bill Bradley. Biography). For example,
Bradley would always be the one who started communication on the court. He spoke in basketball
terms that nevertheless underlined his basic principle. (Bradley 106). Another example of Bill Bradley
s leadership virtue was when he led his Princeton Tigers to a winning season ( Bill Bradley 65. ). For
Bill, that accomplishment was not easy or given to him. He was on the rise and everyone wanted to
beat him. Everyone knew that he was an NBA prospect, but he kept his composure and played to the
best of his ability every single game. It did not matter who he was playing, he gave it his all and made
his teammates better. His teammates loved playing with him. Bill displayed impeccable confidence.
He always made the right decisions whether it was shooting the last shot for the win or getting his
teammates involved (Bradley 106). This was not only on the court but his leadership carried into his
post career. Bill was involved not only in sports, but he was also the U.S Senates for New Jersey. He
displayed tremendous patience through rigorous campaigning. This shows that he wanted to help
benefit values of our nation and come to a conclusion that will place a smile on

Influence of Gangs Essay
By: Susanna Lee
E mail: lees@student.ucr.edu
Gang Culture has increasingly become a subculture for many teenage youths. Main minority teens,
these social outcast are often have no real economic stability and no parental supervision or guidance.
As a result, teenagers often rebel and seek comfort in gangs. These gangs provide what is lacking in
their lives, a sense of belonging. Minorities are often stereotyped and criticized, especially minorities
born into poverty. They are condemned simply because they are not of the same race or of the same
class as the majority (often middle class whites). Before these minorities can even prove themselves
equal, society already pushes them towards the subculture that has risen out of oppression ... Show

However, lower class gang members are not able to communicate through materialistic possessions.
With no economic power, these teenagers often turn to violence as an alternate from of power. With all
the violence out on the streets, gangbangers do not care so much about materialist items. What is more
important is survival. Middle class teenagers do not have to fear for their lives every day. Instead they
worry more about being accepted into the right crowds and owning lots of expensive items to show
off. Most people fail to realize gang members are products of a bad environment that they are forced
to live in. Immigrant families arrive with little money and have no choice but to live in bad
neighborhoods. Society sees ghettos that are overfilled with immigrants and gangs so all low class
minority teens end up being stereotyped as being gangsters. The violence is not only on the streets but
also at home. Often times, lower class minority teens come from unstable homes. Immigrant parents
no doubt already have a difficult time trying to make it in this prejudice society. With hard time the
common cycle of poverty, drug and alcohol abuse, and sometime physical abuse arises. As a result
teenager often rebel against their parents and find solace elsewhere. Because of the lack of love and
guidance from parents, teens often stray from the family and wander blindly into the life of a

Confucianism And Its Influence On Society
Confucianism can be regarded as a religion, a belief, a way of ruling and a basis for laying the ground
rules for the East Asian countries. Confucianism had gone through so many transformations and has
been affected by many religions and dynasties. Many dynasties have adapted the ways of
Confucianism, which state that there is a connection between humans and heaven. However, as time
progressed, religions such as Buddhism and Daoism also adapted the ways of Confucianism, but they
changed some of its ways, leading to new form of this learning. The Buddhists and the Daoists
changed and adapted their philosophies based on Confucian views towards the universe and the
society, as well as stripping their own belief from superstitions and myths. These lead to a new
learning of Confucianism, called the Neo Confucianism, referred to as Dao Xue (the Learning of the
Way) or Li Xue (the Learning of the Principle/Reason) (Yau 8).
Neo Confucianism was adopted into Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese schools. While it was
mentioned that it was mostly Buddhism that lead to new changes in Confucianism, other religions
played an important role in adapting and changing the method as well and were adopted by different
Asian countries. The Christian approach towards Neo Confucianism was mostly practiced around
Korea, China, And Vietnam; the Islamic adaptation was practiced in other parts of China as well as
Central Asia; and Neo Buddhism approach was practiced in parts of Japan and Chine. According

users meet Internet addiction diagnostic criteria. It has developed into such a major concern in China
that in 2007 China began limiting computer game use; present day laws now discourage more than 3
hours of daily game use (Block 307). In South Korea the average high school student spends 23 hours
a week gaming. Numerous authorities have been growing concerned about the escalating number of
individuals dropping out of school or work to spend time on computers. Over 1,043 counselors have
been educated in the treatment of Internet addiction in South Korea, and over 190 hospitals and
treatment centers have been enlisted. Also several preventive measures are now being introduced into
their schools to help combat IAD. The dilemma is so serious in South Korea that a series of 10
cardiopulmonary related deaths have occurred in Internet cafés along with a game related murder.

The Ontario Retirement Pension Plan
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the creation of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan and to
argue that it is a necessary and potentially effective way to ensure that workers in the private sector in
Ontario will be able to retire and live comfortably. This conclusion is not made lightly as it is import
to view any broadening of government influence through the most critical of lenses. However, there is
an increasing need for Ontarians to save for retirement and it is becoming more and more apparent
that private pension plans will not be able to meet the needs of most people. This is because too few
people have private pensions and the once that do exist sit on volatile ground. In order to understand
why the ORPP is justifiable policy, it is necessary to understand the scope, extent and dimensions of
the policy problem. With the Baby Boomers in the process of retirement there are fewer people paying
to support the pensions of greater numbers of people. Governments at the federal, provincial and
municipal levels have all made financial promises without taking steps to ensure that promised
programs are adequately funded. This is creating two classes of retirees. The first are public sector
employees with extremely generous tax payer funded guaranteed pensions. The second is everyone
else the 80 percent of people who depend on other, far less desirable means like the Canadian Pension
which is drastically underfunded particularly when compared to the pension

Rosenberg Case Summary
All of the Rosenberg s personal letters, put into a trust for the boys by Emmanuel Bloch, had been
copyrighted and Nizer was using the letters in his book without permission. Michael and Robbie
needed to make a decision whether to retain their anonymity and do nothing or to sue Nizer and reveal
their Rosenberg identity. The brothers consulted with Marshall Perlin, a lawyer who had worked on
their parent s case in the last few weeks prior to their execution. Perlin assured them that they had a
strong copyright infringement case and also led them to believe that they could file the case while
remaining anonymous. Following Perlin s guidance, they decided to pursue a lawsuit against Nizer.

found it comforting and easy to discuss his parent s trial and imprisonment. Ultimately, the six year
copyright case against Louis Nizer was settled out of court. (Bennett 2010) In 1973, the brothers took
a lead role in supporting the National Committee to Reopen the Rosenberg Case (NCRRC), created to
raise legal and operating funds as well as raise public awareness of the Rosenberg case. The chairman
of the committee was Emily Alman who had formed the National Committee to Secure Justice in the
Rosenberg Case prior to the Rosenberg s execution. The media was becoming interested in the case
and four print interviews followed. Two national networks (ABC and PBS) presented shows about the
Rosenbergs that fall. In 1974 a book co authored by the brothers about the Rosenberg family, We Are

The Equal Protection
Holding the state law prohibiting non white males from sitting on a jury was a violation of equal
protection.
The purpose of the equal protection clause was to provide protection for the civil rights of blacks. This
law clearly discriminates against blacks. Furthermore, any classification of jurors by race would be
unconsitutional, whether it be nationality based or otherwise. That is not to say that the state may not
prescribe qualification for its jurors, it just may not do so with respect to race. [But age, sex, and
education was okay. This is the first exercise of racial protection under the equal protection clause.]

MR. JUSTICE STRONG delivered the opinion of the court.
The plaintiff in error, a colored man, was indicated for murder in the Circuit Court of Ohio County, in
West Virginia, on the 20th of October, 1874, and upon trial was convicted and sentenced. The record
was then removed to the Supreme Court of the State, and there the judgment of the Circuit Court was
affirmed.
The present case is a writ of error to that court, and it is now, in substance, averred that at the trial in
the State court the defendant (now plaintiff in error) was denied rights to which he was entitled under
the Constitution and laws of the United States.
In the Circuit Court of the State, before the trial of the indictment was commenced, the defendant
presented his petition, verified by his oath, praying for a removal of the cause into the Circuit Court of
the United States, assigning, as ground for the removal, that by virtue of the laws of the State of West
Virginia no colored man was eligible to be a member of the grand jury or to serve on a petit jury in the
State; that white men are so eligible, and that by reason of his being a colored man and having been a

Breastfeeding Is A Controversial Topic Over The Years
The practice of breastfeeding has become a very controversial topic over the years due to the creation
of alternatives to breast milk, increase in working mothers, and other reasons. Much research shows
that due to a variety of cultural, ethical, and economic reasons women should be encouraged to
breastfeed for a specific duration of time, while others believe that this is unnecessary. Based on these
three societal sectors, should women be encouraged to breastfeed? If so, for how long should they
breastfeed? Since the beginning of humans/ mankind breastfeeding has been practiced by mothers.
Stevens and colleagues (2009) tell us the following information (pp. 32 39): Since the beginning of
humans life on Earth, there have always been a number of alternatives used to provide nutrients to
infants. For example, in 2000 BC women fed animal milk to their children. More recently, in the 18th
century many women were encouraged to stay home, breastfeed, and care for their children and
husband (Stevens et al., 2009, 33). Some areas of the world even believed that breast milk provided
the child with wisdom. Then in the 19th century, it was a common idea that women were only
equipped to breastfeed if she had a good diet, exercised, and was mentally fit, but breastfeeding was
highly encouraged. However, European women during this time had wet nurses, or other women that
would breastfeed the child that wasn t biologically theirs (p. 35). People soon began to realize that this

PS4 Situational Analysis
INTRODUCTION: Sony is a Japan based company that operates in over 180 countries worldwide.
(Company Profile for Sony Corporation, 2011) Sony was co founded by Masaru Ibuka and Aki Miruta
in 1946 and since then has grown into an international multimillion dollar company (Sony

laptops, gaming consoles, and communications devices. One product in particular is the PlayStation 4.

The company is competing with Microsoft in the computer and gaming consoles product area, then
with Panasonic in the television and music department and with LG s communications products. A
second threat Sony faces relates to most of its production being in Japan. The company is susceptible
to a fluctuating currency rate. For example the Japanese Yen has been steadily rising against both the
US dollar and the Euro since November 2013 and experienced a 5% increase against the US dollar in
December 2013. (OANDA, 2014). This made Sony s imports to these countries from Japan seem
relatively more expensive than products made locally. Another threat Sony faces is one relating to the
specific product being discussed in this report. Recently the PS4 network was hacked, allowing users
credit card details and other private information to be taken. (MacManus, 2012). Being vulnerable to
attacks from hackers is a very big threat for the Sony Corporation. Opportunities: The Sony brand has
been given many opportunities. One of these is that Blu ray is become increasingly more popular,
which gives Sony the opportunity to make these players as cheaply and efficiently as they can. A
second opportunity is their partnership with the big gaming franchise Fifa. This enhances Sony s
corporate value. Weaknesses: One weakness of the Sony Corporation is its location. Almost its entire

Mount Hood Case Study
Analysis
Now that the background of the disaster is known, we can begin to analyze its many components.
From the leadership skills or lack thereof, to the heuristic traps the hikers fell into, to the many voices
that bring multiple views of this climb to life, the 1986 Oregon Episcopal School climb is one that has
people wondering how so many lost their lives in a seemingly simple trip. In doing this we are able to
see how this disaster could have been prevented allowing us to learn from the mistakes of this tragic
event.
The leadership, group functioning, experience, and skill of the nineteen individuals who made their
way up Mount Hood can be used to analyze the very basics of what went wrong atop the mountain.

Those who survived the tragedy bring the voice of what it was really like up on the mountain to life.
The parents of students who didn t survive bring the feeling of grief and the opinion that the school
was never prepared enough to take kids up the mountain (Hallman, 2014). Though some hold the
school responsible, others believe that the leaders provided were adequate as was the equipment. The
media also provides an interesting view into the climb. Because they bring the voices of the parents,
community, and survivors together, the recordings from May 12th through 15th prove to be valuable
when dissecting the events that occurred. Newspapers, magazines, and television reports all freeze this
disaster in place among the records of Mount Hood. Finally, the voices of the public provide
interesting insight on the climbers and leaders who failed to come back home. Through contrasting
views of Summers, Goman, and Horwell, the trip leaders, we learn that not everyone believed them to
be fit to guide the trip. By comparing these multiple viewpoints, it becomes clear that if the group had
taken the correct precautions and listened to the weather report, they may be alive

Jordan Peele Get Out Analysis
Have you ever considered why you feel a powerful desire for horror films? According to Stephen
King, we crave horror films to show we are not afraid, to re establish our sense of normality, and to
give an outlet to our anti civilization emotions. (Why We Crave Horror Films) Jordan Peele s film
challenges white people, who live in social environments, protected and isolated from race based
stress. They re provided with racial comfort, yet they have a lower tolerance for racial pressure. Jordan
Peele s film, deals with the more common forms of racism, but it focuses more on the progressive
liberal whites and how they contribute to silencing African Americans, causing them to be trapped in
the sunken place. Get Out follows the story of Chris, a young black man who has been dating Rose, a

Chris wonders if these things are actually happening or he is just being paranoid. According to

New Religious Movements and the Biased Media
What happened in Jonestown? How could sensible people follow the rantings of a crazed lunatic? The
questions and the simplified answers that are provided by the media coverage of Jonestown and
Heaven s Gate perhaps contributed to their downfall. The feeling of public persecution is a central
theme of many new religious movements, and the negative publicity of suicide cults only fuels the
fear of other like minded religious groups. The misleading definitions the media provided for the how,

The Concept Of Revenge In Hamlet
While seeking revenge, dig two graves one for yourself , as is what happens to those who take
revenge, buried in their own unforgiveness. Francis Bacon s idea of revenge attempts to bypass this
problem of unforgiveness, with the forgiveness of the perpetrator. But not all revenge can be simply
forgiven, which is the case in Hamlet; Francis Bacon also knows about this problem, but describes it
in his own words with The most tolerable sort of revenge is for those wrongs which there is no law to
remedy; but then let a man take heed the revenge be such as there is no law to punish (Francis Bacon
15). Sir Francis Bacon s idea of revenge relates to Hamlet in how revenge is handled, the
repercussions of acting in revenge, and its ability to change a person s thought process.
It can be easily said that no one can handle the feeling of revenge perfectly, as is the case for Hamlet
specifically. Early in the play Hamlet it is said that Hamlet had lost his father to a poisonous snake
whilst he was in the gardens, but it is later revealed in act one by his father s ghost of his true death.
Now, Hamlet, hear. Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard, A serpent stung me. So the whole ear of
Denmark Is by a forgèd process of my death Rankly abused. But know, thou noble youth, The serpent

The Hobbit Archetype
Abstract The Lord of the Rings is the masterpiece of Tolkien. But The Hobbit written by the same
author is not as popular as The Lord of the Rings. Both these novels are fantastical and the hero has
certain virtues to celebrate. These virtues are obtained by him through the journey he undertakes.
Strength, intelligence, courage, leaderships add to his quality of being a successful hero. But the
journey is not an easy task. It is adventurous on one hand and dangerous on the other. Thus the aim of
this project is to identify the journey as an archetype and to show how it differs in both the novels.

Prostitution Is Legal For Human Trafficking
Are you serious? Girls are not just objects, they are human beings just like everyone else. That
disgusts me, are the thoughts I was having when I saw that Thailand has a total of around three million
sex workers in their country, and the number is increasing. Prostitution is legal but human trafficking
is not. How can we make prostitution legal and then not expect is to lead to more human trafficking
around the world. Prostitution is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with
someone for payment. Usually when you think about prostitution you think about out of the United
States. But, now in the United States 1 out of 50 states have prostitution legal. Nevada is the only state
where prostitution is legal. But it is still going on in other states in the United States. Prostitution was
taken place, usually when a female needs money to support herself or maybe even her family. But,
now parents are starting their kids to be prostitutes at the age of THIRTEEN! In Thailand, there are
around three million people there are sex workers and around one third are MINORS. Luckily, it is
way harder to have minors in the United States then it would be to have minors out of the country.
Being a minor means that you are under the age of 18. This is called prostitution of children or child
prostitution meaning prostitution involving a child. It is a form of commercial sexual exploitation of
children. The term normally refers to prostitution of a minor, or person under

The Case Of Missouri Vs. Seibert
In the Case of Missouri v. Seibert, a mother named Patrice Seibert was convicted of second degree
murder. Patrice Seibert had a son named Jonathan who was twelve years old and had cerebral palsy.
Jonathan Seibert suddenly died in his sleep, and his mother thought that she would be held responsible
for his sudden death. Ms. Seibert then devised a plan with her two older sons and their friends. She
wanted to cover up the death of Jonathan, so she conspired with her sons and their friends to cover up
the death by burning down their mobile home. Donald Rector was a mentally ill individual who stayed
with the Seibert s and later died as the home went up in flames. Several days later, Seibert was taken
into the police station and questioned about the mysterious mobile home fire. While being
interrogated, the officer waved Ms. Seibert s Miranda rights. She was questioned for thirty to forty
minutes before she was given a break. While being questioned, the officer hoped that Ms. Seibert
would voluntarily confess to the crimes that had taken place. After her break, she was then questioned
a second time. This time, the officer turned on a recorder and then read Ms. Seibert her Miranda
Warnings, and the officer also obtained a signed waiver of rights from Seibert. The issues the court
must decide are whether withholding Miranda Warnings to obtain a confession is considered
admissible in court. In the case of Missouri v. Seibert, Ms. Seibert was questioned before her

American history from 1815 to 1840 Essay
Throughout American history, politics changed with the times, forming and growing as new situations
and environments took place. However, the most drastic differences occurred between 1815 and 1840.
During this time, the North and South develop different economic systems, which created political
differences between the regions. Between 1815 and 1840, the number of eligible voters drastically
increased as politicians utilized a wider variety of campaigning methods in order to appeal to as many
voters as possible, all essentially caused by economic growth. Politics grow to include universal white
male suffrage, a strong national government, and nationalism versus sectionalism. Economic Growth

Political figures began appealing for popular support, using tactics like public rallies, picnics,
slanderous charges, and newspapers to capture attention. Document I is a campaign almanac that
promotes the 1840 candidacy of Harrison and Tyler. During this time period, it was common for
political candidates to use almanacs, tracts, buttons, effigies, and rallies to publicize and romanticize
their records. Political parties themselves began to change as people like Martin Van Buren tried to go
back to old political parties (Document C). He thought that the best political combination would unite
southern planters and plain Republicans of the North. Van Buren was part of a group of shrewd
politicians called the Albany Regency With the help of their newspaper, the Albany Argus, they
controlled party nominating conventions and political patronage (spoils system) while in office. The
Albany Argus is a great example of how newspapers came to be a big part of politics. Seen in Doc G,
the number of different newspapers in the United States increased to 1,200, with the number more
than tripling between 1810 and 1835. Newspapers were widely distributed, and after innovations made
newspapers affordable were widely used as a campaign tactic.
There were many causes of the incredible political changes during 1815 1840 s, but the main cause
was economic growth. The War of 1812 caused men like Henry Clay and John Calhoun to find

Their jobs have made them feel stagnant and irrelevant until they can come home to bashing other
men s heads in to regain confidence. The violence of the fight clubs serves not to promote or glorify
physical combat, but for participants to experience feeling in a society where they are otherwise numb.
Along with manliness another theme that became detectable is rebuilding identity. All of the men in
Fight Club feel a sense of disconnect with themselves therefore they need something to revive a
connection. While it may seem similar to emasculation, identity deals with connecting with your inner
self and emasculation determines your role in society. Leaving the main character, Edward Norton,
unnamed leaves the opportunity open that he could be anyone. His job and everything he owns has

malicious software.(Kishore 1) A variety of strategies are typically used to detect a malicious program.
Signature based detection uses searching for known shifts or shreds of data within executable code.

with new malware for which no signature is yet known; and malware is often modified to change its

New Media Literacy Essay
When the word was first used, literacy had a very traditional meaning: the ability to read and write (
Literacy, 2011). Being literate was the norm, it was required for all and it distinguished race and class.
However, as times change and culture emerges and grows, people acquire new knowledge, such as
technology, that can very well be identified as literacy, or media literacy. As technology leads the 21st
century, students are now expected to excel and master media literacy as well textual literacy (Jenkins,
Clinton, Purushotma, Robison Weigel, 2006). This is because the meaning of the word literacy

Because technology is advancing everyday, teachers, administrators and parents should ascribe great
value, money, time and/or effort to ensure that students are prepared to face the world with as much
media literacy skills as possible to be full participants in society (Jenkins et al., 2006). To do this,
educators and leaders must insure that there are countless resources to teach new media literacy,
whether in school, after school programs or even at home. Teachers, parents, and after school
caregivers all have a responsibility and a role to educate students and nurture their new media skills
(Jenkins et al., 2006). Literature Review Why should educators consider adding new media literacies
to curriculums? The answer is simple: new media literacies or skills emphasize social and
communication skills (Jenkins et al., 2006). This new culture requires that students or participants in
general be prepared and equipped as full participants having the social skills required to contribute and
they must be culturally competent (Jenkins et al., 2006). In addition, participating in online
communities, such as social network sites, intensifies or enhances certain properties not represented in
face to face communications, such as persistence, searchability, exact copyability and invisible
audiences (Boyd, 2008, pg. 2). Although these properties can change social dynamics, they give

Best Buy had a history of being able to adapt to the changing markets and their ability to do so
contributed to their success (i.e. the vastly expanded product line, evolution to superstores, expansion,
acquisition, converting from commission to salaried sales force.). The perception that customers were
focusing less on the technical aspect of products and redirecting their attention to service and support,
led to Anderson s custom centricity initiative. This transition and the rollout of 144 new centricity Best
Buy stores was being blamed for the company missing third quarter earnings in 2005, resulting in a
12% decline in stock value and a loss of nearly $2B in market capitalization. Did Anderson perform
the proper strategic market planning analysis before selecting and implementing the centricity
initiative? Assess the need for a change in Best Buy s strategy when Brand Anderson became CEO. If
the centricity concept is being blamed for not meeting earnings and the decline in Best Buy s stock
price and market capitalization, the question becomes was there a need for this change to the company
s strategy, was the strategy poorly implemented, was there a delayed market response to the change, or
was the launch an overly aggressive action of a newly appointed CEO? The Best Buy leadership team
first needed to evaluate whether there truly was a need for a (drastic) change and if so, was centricity
the appropriate response to the market.

Roethkes Use of Tone Essay
Roethke s Use of Tone
Childhood experiences seem to be the ones that are recollected most vividly throughout a person s life.
Almost everyone can remember some aspect of his or her childhood experiences, pleasant and
unpleasant alike. Theodore Roethke s poem My Papa s Waltz suggests even further that this concept
could be true. The dance described in this poem illustrates an interaction between father and child that
contains more than the expected joyous, loving attitude between the two characters. Roethke s tone in
this work exhibits the blended, yet powerful emotions that he, as a grown man, feels when looking
back on this childhood experience. The author somewhat implicates feelings of resentment fused with
a loving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stanza also provides the reader with the feeling of how aggressive this dance may be. Roethke is
apparently referring to his father s belt buckle in the last line of the third stanza. During an aggressive
act such as this, a small child would experience pain from such a man s belt buckle scraping across his
ear in this fashion, yet the child refrains from any type of resistance. Perhaps this is caused by the
child s fear that his father will become angry, so the child simply endures the pain and tries to enjoy
the moment, for he may also feel love and attention that he may not receive regularly from his father.
Bridges 3 John J. McKenna offers us further suggestions about the feelings suggested in this poem. In
McKenna s article, two of the holograph manuscripts to My Papa s Waltz are discussed. McKenna
implies that the changes made between these manuscripts are further evidence that this poem shows
mixed emotions through the tone that Roethke utilizes. These holograph manuscripts are labeled MS A
and MS B at the University of Washington where they are contained in the archives. The first of these
changes discussed in McKenna s article is the gender of the child in the poem. He discusses how
Roethke seemed to argue with himself about what the sex of the child should be, but finally chooses
male for a few different reasons. It seems plausible that he did recognize the rough house nature of

Symbolism Of Water In Siddhartha
From the instant Siddhartha began his journey to reach enlightenment, water became an essential
detail of the story that spurred his transformation. The story begins with the importance of the river. It
says, In the shade of the house, in the sunshine on the river bank by the boats, in the shade of the
sallow wood and the fig tree, Siddhartha, the handsome Brahmin s son, grew up with his friend
Govinda (3). The river becomes a part of Siddhartha; he begins as a child and ends up as a man. The
river serves as a guide to Siddhartha s journey of attaining unity with his Atman.

In this primary encounter, Vasudeva hints about the teachings of the river when he says, I love it above
everything. I have often listened to it, gazed at it, and I have always learned something from it. Once

too; everything comes back (49). Vasudeva, who Siddhartha sees as God, lives near the river and
controls the people who pass it. He foreshadows that Siddhartha s enlightenment will only occur once
he experiences all aspects and obstacles of life because it is a part of the rebirth cycle.
When Siddhartha first encounters the river with the ferryman, Vasudeva, he physically crosses it.
While physically crossing it, he also metaphorically crosses it because he leaves to drown in a life of

1.2 BACKGROUND
Since the 1980s, Zambian policymakers have been pursuing a reform programme to increase wealth
creation and improve the capita income of the country. Policies have been devised to resolve declining
per capita Incomes, the increasing poverty situation, and the declining budgetary allocations and
effectiveness of budget implementation. An aspect of this reform process has focused on
macroeconomics reform and budgetary policy. (Mudenda, 2005)
The budgetary process has over the years become a very important aspect of macroeconomic
management, resource allocation and governance in the country. Since 1993, Zambia has attempted a
number of budgeting systems which range from cash budgeting to activity based budgeting. The
reform programme under the IMF and World Bank has largely influenced the type of budgeting
system that the country has pursued.

Jay-Z s From The Frying Pan Into The Fire
Hip hop is a culture created by people who felt that some aspects of the culture of capitalism did not
fit them. Hip hop was able to give them a form of expression, a means of earning and a better
representation for themselves. In Jay Z s essay One Eye Open , Jay Z shares his account, as a pioneer
of the genre itself, of how hip hop started to gain its popularity and standing back when he was a
young child and how it provides the people means to support their needs. In her essay From the Frying
Pan into the Fire , Arlie Russell Hochschild shares what does it take to create a culture, she focused on
how the capitalist economic system became a culture itself instead of supporting one. Although hip
hop may have started out as an opposition to some of the values of capitalism, a lot of aspects of the
hip hop culture thrive from the capitalist economy, it just follows a different set of rules.
Even though many might think that hip hop is a form of art and that capitalism is an economic system,
that is not all that they are, they can also be identified as cultural systems. A culture is created when
groups of people start to have unique social patterns, like their own food, cloth, language and what
not. Another way a culture is created is through rituals and an ideology that a group of people start
following. The culture of capitalism was created through the anxieties to which it poses itself as a
necessary answer (Hochschild 145). For this reason, what used to be just an

Moon Landing Persuasive Essay
The moon landing was an incredible feat of man. The first mission to the moon was on July 16, 1969.
Neil Armstrong, Edwin Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins were the first three astronauts to go onto the

The moon landing was not faked because so many people were involved. First off, this because Joshua
Barajas from PBS said, an estimated 405,000 people involved. This proves my point because if the
moon landing was faked, this many people could not keep a secret for this long. If the moon landing

made a racial slur and drove away. He never admitted to any of the charges, however apologized to the
attendant for his conduct. This week ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I decided to write about this article instead, which I found extremely interesting. I thought about how
refreshing it was to read about students taking on issues of economic inequalities for campus workers,
who some may feel don t really affect them or concern them. As stated in the summary, Duke is no
stranger to sit ins as a similar protest in 1999n was organized to ensure the university was not using
sweatshops to manufacture Duke clothing. What is this saying about Duke University? Is Duke a
promoter of cheap labor and paying low wages to their employees? From a public relations position it
is concerning for the reputation of the university, the community who depends on Duke for
employment and students who attend the university. The learning that comes from this is that students
are realizing their legal rights to politically organize protests, and they are winning. The concerns and
needs of college workers have seemed to have been overlooked by Duke University. The college
operates in a bureaucratic sense. Much in the same way the government is more concerned with
process and procedures at the expense of efficiency or common

Lily Dialectical Journal
The fog was like tracing paper over her eyes. From what she could see above, the blue sky was turning
navy. Lily was standing at a bus stop wishing she was wearing gloves and a hat. She pulled her coat
ever tighter around herself. Her lips were numb, her jaw fighting to chatter. The bus was late and she
was meant to be meeting her friend Daisy on it. Daisy, when approached with the idea of travelling via
public transport to the unpronounceable French café she desperately wanted to go to, seemed
disgusted at the very notion. Lily reminded her that not everyone could rely on their Daddy buying
them a new car as soon as they turned seventeen and that it certainly wasn t her fault if it was made
unavailable due to an MOT. Daisy blushed prettily. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was hard to believe that she was only eighteen and no one found it harder to believe than Daisy. I
was starting to think I had got on the wrong bus! What a nightmare! If I ever step foot in such a
vehicle again it will be too soon. Lily sat down next to her best friend and felt the usual sensation of
jealousy towards Daisy s natural panache and the unmistakable underdressed feeling she got whenever
next to her despite being on a bus. The feelings would fade though. They always did. Daisy then
leaned in close and spoke in a hushed voice; Did you know it is the ungodly temperature of minus five
degrees outside? Lily laughed. The bus started again and they left the bus stop

An Observation of Development of Danio Rerio
An Observation of Development of Danio rerio Principles of Nervous System Development An
observation of development of Danio rerio Xenopus laevis and Danio rerio are two models that are
extensively used to study early embryonic development, in particular, neurulation. During this
practical Danio rerio was used as the model, however the advantages and disadvantages of the use of
both models will be discussed herein. Both Xenopus and Zebrafish are excellent model organisms in
the study of development. They can both be generated in the lab at relatively low cost and
development of the embryos can be observed within a relatively short time frame. The eggs
themselves are also very easy to observe due to their transparency. Xenopus can be generated through
in vitro fertilisation or natural mating with an optimal temperature of 23°C (Xenbase.org 2014).
Zebrafish similarly can be generated in relatively large sizes, by maintaining them on long day
photoperiods of about 14 hours of light and 10 hours of dark with their development, once fertilized
and incubated between 26 28°C, hatching between 3 4 days (Bradford and Sun 1994). Both Xenopus
and Zebrafish have a known genome and knockdowns of genes etc., can be easily performed and
observed as micro manipulation of both Zebrafish and Xenopus are relatively easy to do as they are
robust embryos. It is also worth mentioning that while both animals are excellent models for
development, genetic studies cannot be done on Xenopus

Essay on Ford value enhacement plan
Ford Value Enhancement Plan (VEP)
In April 2000, Ford Motor Co. announced a shareholder Value Enhancement Plan (VEP) to
significantly recapitalize the firm s ownership structure. Ford had accumulated $23 billion in cash
reserves and under the VEP would return as much as $10 billion of this cash to shareholders. In
exchange for each share currently held, the plan would give stockholders one new share plus the
choice of receiving $20 in either cash or additional new Ford common shares. Shareholders electing to
receive cash would be taxed on these distributions at capital gain rates. Among other things, the plan
provided a means for the Ford family to obtain liquidity without having to dilute their 40% voting
interest (even though they own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exchanging existing share for New Shares on a One for One basis. The VEP includes three options for
different kinds of Shareholders:
Option 1: Shareholders who prefer Cash.
Option 2: Shareholders who prefer More Shares
Option 3: Passive Investors
Value Enhancement Plan has tax consequences. Those shareholders electing to receive the new shares
of Ford instead of the 20 buck bonus will not be directly affected by the tax. The new shares are
considered a tax free exchange, with the holding period of the new shares considered the same as
when the original Ford stock was purchased. Shareholders choosing to re invest in stocks can be
incentivized by having more voting power and control over the management.
Those shareholders choosing to collect the $20 cash per share will have to pay capital gains tax on the
cash distribution just as though they have sold part of their shares. This can be either considered a
short term or long term capital gain, depending on when your original Ford shares were purchased.
Benefit out of opportunity Cost for the shareholders to invest the $20 in a different firm.
Ford family benefited by retaining their voting control since they did not have to surrender their Class
B shares.
Since firms incur the re purchase option by offering $20 cash for each stock bought back, the number
of outstanding shares will be reduced. The Earnings per share will increase leading to an increased
stock price.
Long term gains (held more than a year) are taxed

What Does Plantinga s Evolutionary Argument Against...
Rachel Woznicki
Short Paper 1
01/27/15
What Does Plantinga s Evolutionary Argument Against Naturalism Say?
Plantinga s argument against naturalism is very engaging. He begins to state that a lot of people
believing Darwin s theory of evolution have misguided beliefs about naturalism. Comprehensively, he
argues that the contingency of humans having stable cognitive faculties is extremely inferior.
Plantinga cites C.S. Lewis in recognizing that evolutionary naturalism leads us to distrust. He brought
up that even Darwin had doubts along those lines. The essence of reasoning in Plantinga s argument is
that the reliability of evolutionary naturalism is very low. He says the people who believe the two,
evolution and naturalism, go hand in hand should reevaluate its soundness; and hence, withhold
approval from all other beliefs including evolutionary naturalism, said to be self defeating (316). ...

He notes that nearly all naturalists are also materialists with respect to human beings, because human
beings are materials. A main idea of materialists is that a person is simply their body. Basically saying
that if anyone says, my body, then they are utterly wrong because they are their body

My Original Definition Of Social Media Essay
1. My original definition for antisemitism was: antisemitism is the conscience or unconscious hatred
of a Jew or Jews, because of certain characteristics that the hater believes the Jew or all Jews possess
by being Jewish. However, one thing that my original definition does not hint towards the wide
spectrum of behaviors that are antisemitic. This is an advantage that your definition has. Your
definition mentions a spectrum form mildest expressions to exterminatory activities. Your definition
goes on to list different examples of antisemitic behavior. One category of behavior is not mentioned
though, and that is the use of social media to do such things as cyber bullying. We talked some during
the course about social media, especially at the end of the course when we discussed the six
parentheses symbol. Perhaps a better definition of antisemitism could come about by combining our
two definitions and making mention of social media. The new definition could be: antisemitism is
defined as the conscience or unconscious hatred of Jews or Judaism from its mildest expressions to
exterminatory activates. The activists include making jokes, cyberbullying, the destruction of religious
objects, defacing synagogues, and murdering Jewish people. This new definition considers actions
despite weather or not the hater is aware of them. For example, a person could have always been told
that Jews are greedy. This guy goes around telling jokes about Jews being greedy. He is engaging in

Comparing Weird Richard And Welcome To Holland
People everyday are going through experiences. Whether it is an experience filled with fun and joy, or
one filled with sorrow and tears, these experiences can teach valuable lessons. These lessons about
experience can be displayed through two works of writing Weird Richard , and Welcome to Holland ,
and an experience of my own. Firstly, in the short story Weird Richard , the speaker learns from
experience not to let peers influence his friendship. Secondly, in the essay Welcome to Holland , the
author Emily Kingsley learns about opening up to experience even if it s not what she thought it
should be. Finally, in an experience of my own I learnt about accepting change, and about doing
something that might be hard at first, but it really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this essay, Holland represents having a child with a disability, and Italy is the child she expected.
She describes her experience as planning a trip to Italy, and then ending up in Holland. It can cause
you to become flustered because she was expecting to go to Italy and not Holland. Kingsley writes,
the important thing is that they haven t taken you to a horrible, disgusting filthy place. It s just
different. Her experience with ending up in Holland has taught Kingsley that just because what you
got is different from what you were expecting, doesn t mean that it s a bad thing. In addition, Kingsley
has learnt from her experience that even though she might be in pain because everyone else is going to
Italy and she ended up in Holland, if she had spent her whole life being upset that you didn t get to go
to Italy, you will never be able to enjoy the amazing things about Holland. From this essay one can
learn that what everyone else has isn t always what you need, and that it might be hard at first, but that
being different is okay. Without her experience in Holland, Emily Perl Kingsley would never have
been taught this

Analysis Of Pygmalion By George Bernard Shaw Essay
Pygmalion, by George Bernard Shaw, describes Shaw s viewpoint on social class distinctions in the
1900s by describing characters of the upper, middle, and lower classes in the play. Through the
characters descriptions, language, and actions, the distinction between classes becomes very
prominent. Similarly, Galileo, by Bertolt Brecht, describes Brecht s take on the social class structure
during Galileo s time and how the differences between classes affected Galileo s opportunity to do
scientific research. Both plays depict a society ruled by the upper class and a lack of coherence among
the upper, middle, and lower classes that leads to eventual conflict. In both Pygmalion and Galileo, the
authors highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the different social classes in order to critique
how the relationships between people from different classes affect their interactions with each other.
The different classes in both plays had their advantages and disadvantages; however, some classes had
more benefits than others. In Pygmalion, the upper class was the most privileged money wise. Henry
Higgins was an upper class educated man who had quite a reputation and enough money to take on the
challenge of transforming Eliza, a lower class woman, into an upper class citizen. As a member of the
upper class, Higgins had access to chocolates, and taxis, and gold, and diamonds that members of the
lower class didn t necessarily have (Shaw 19). These objects are associated with

At the beginning of the movie, the audience members see a frantic man in a doctor s office saying that he is sane and tells his accounts of the body snatchers. The screen goes blurry, which indicates that there is a flashback/story being told. The flashbacks worked in this film because they helped establish that the story occurred in the past and it s from the main character s Dr. Miles point of view. • 5. Richard IIi, By William Shakespeare Children bring out the underlying disposition and wicked intentions we all possess. Richard III, by William Shakespeare, is a tragic play about the Duke of Gloucester who desires to be the king of England. He does this through the manipulation and murder of many characters, including Queen Elizabeth s children, Prince Edward and the Duke of York. These children emphasize some of the adult themes in the play and reveals the devastating nature of these themes. Their characteristics and deaths all contribute to the emphasis of these themes. Critics Marie Hélène Bisnaught and Michel Bito, and Vincent Walsh all agree that the murder of Prince Edward and the Duke of York was an atrocious deed. Prince Edward and the Duke of York are innocent, precious, and witty. These traits the children acquire truly highlights the extent of their deaths. Both these children are well beyond their years. This clear when the Duke of York says I could have given my uncle s grace a flout, / To touch his growth nearer than he d touched mine (Act II, Scene IV, Line 24 25). The young duke cleverly insults his uncle s height and manners essentially saying that Richard is a short, disrespected man. The children s innocence is also evident through the perspective of their mother and uncle. For example, Bradley would always be the one who started communication on the court. He spoke in basketball terms that nevertheless underlined his basic principle. (Bradley 106). Another example of Bill Bradley s leadership virtue was when he led his Princeton Tigers to a winning season ( Bill Bradley 65. ). For Bill, that accomplishment was not easy or given to him. He was on the rise and everyone wanted to beat him. Everyone knew that he was an NBA prospect, but he kept his composure and played to the best of his ability every single game. It did not matter who he was playing, he gave it his all and made his teammates better. His teammates loved playing with him. Bill displayed impeccable confidence. He always made the right decisions whether it was shooting the last shot for the win or getting his teammates involved (Bradley 106). This was not only on the court but his leadership carried into his post career. Bill was involved not only in sports, but he was also the U.S Senates for New Jersey. Middle class teenagers do not have to fear for their lives every day. Instead they worry more about being accepted into the right crowds and owning lots of expensive items to show off. Most people fail to realize gang members are products of a bad environment that they are forced to live in. • 8. Confucianism And Its Influence On Society Confucianism can be regarded as a religion, a belief, a way of ruling and a basis for laying the ground rules for the East Asian countries. Confucianism had gone through so many transformations and has been affected by many religions and dynasties. Many dynasties have adapted the ways of Confucianism, which state that there is a connection between humans and heaven. However, as time progressed, religions such as Buddhism and Daoism also adapted the ways of Confucianism, but they changed some of its ways, leading to new form of this learning. The Buddhists and the Daoists changed and adapted their philosophies based on Confucian views towards the universe and the society, as well as stripping their own belief from superstitions and myths. These lead to a new learning of Confucianism, called the Neo Confucianism, referred to as Dao Xue (the Learning of the Way) or Li Xue (the Learning of the Principle/Reason) (Yau 8). Neo Confucianism was adopted into Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese schools. While it was mentioned that it was mostly Buddhism that lead to new changes in Confucianism, other religions played an important role in adapting and changing the method as well and were adopted by different Asian countries. • 13. The Ontario Retirement Pension Plan The purpose of this paper is to investigate the creation of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan and to argue that it is a necessary and potentially effective way to ensure that workers in the private sector in Ontario will be able to retire and live comfortably. This conclusion is not made lightly as it is import to view any broadening of government influence through the most critical of lenses. However, there is an increasing need for Ontarians to save for retirement and it is becoming more and more apparent that private pension plans will not be able to meet the needs of most people. This is because too few people have private pensions and the once that do exist sit on volatile ground. In order to understand why the ORPP is justifiable policy, it is necessary to understand the scope, extent and dimensions of the policy problem. With the Baby Boomers in the process of retirement there are fewer people paying to support the pensions of greater numbers of people. Governments at the federal, provincial and municipal levels have all made financial promises without taking steps to ensure that promised programs are adequately funded. This is creating two classes of retirees. The first are public sector employees with extremely generous tax payer funded guaranteed pensions. The second is everyone else the 80 percent of people who depend on other, far less desirable means like the Canadian Pension which is drastically underfunded particularly when compared to the pension ... Breastfeeding Is A Controversial Topic Over The Years The practice of breastfeeding has become a very controversial topic over the years due to the creation of alternatives to breast milk, increase in working mothers, and other reasons. Much research shows that due to a variety of cultural, ethical, and economic reasons women should be encouraged to breastfeed for a specific duration of time, while others believe that this is unnecessary. Based on these three societal sectors, should women be encouraged to breastfeed? If so, for how long should they breastfeed? Since the beginning of humans/ mankind breastfeeding has been practiced by mothers. Stevens and colleagues (2009) tell us the following information (pp. 32 39): Since the beginning of humans life on Earth, there have always been a number of alternatives used to provide nutrients to infants. For example, in 2000 BC women fed animal milk to their children. More recently, in the 18th century many women were encouraged to stay home, breastfeed, and care for their children and husband (Stevens et al., 2009, 33). Some areas of the world even believed that breast milk provided the child with wisdom. For example the Japanese Yen has been steadily rising against both the US dollar and the Euro since November 2013 and experienced a 5% increase against the US dollar in December 2013. (OANDA, 2014). They re provided with racial comfort, yet they have a lower tolerance for racial pressure. Jordan Peele s film, deals with the more common forms of racism, but it focuses more on the progressive liberal whites and how they contribute to silencing African Americans, causing them to be trapped in the sunken place. • 22. The Concept Of Revenge In Hamlet While seeking revenge, dig two graves one for yourself , as is what happens to those who take revenge, buried in their own unforgiveness. Francis Bacon s idea of revenge attempts to bypass this problem of unforgiveness, with the forgiveness of the perpetrator. But not all revenge can be simply forgiven, which is the case in Hamlet; Francis Bacon also knows about this problem, but describes it in his own words with The most tolerable sort of revenge is for those wrongs which there is no law to remedy; but then let a man take heed the revenge be such as there is no law to punish (Francis Bacon 15). Sir Francis Bacon s idea of revenge relates to Hamlet in how revenge is handled, the repercussions of acting in revenge, and its ability to change a person s thought process. It can be easily said that no one can handle the feeling of revenge perfectly, as is the case for Hamlet specifically. Early in the play Hamlet it is said that Hamlet had lost his father to a poisonous snake whilst he was in the gardens, but it is later revealed in act one by his father s ghost of his true death. Now, Hamlet, hear. Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard, A serpent stung me. So the whole ear of Denmark Is by a forgèd process of my death Rankly abused. But know, thou noble youth, The serpent that did sting thy father s life Now wears his crown (I.V.34 40). Prostitution is legal but human trafficking is not. How can we make prostitution legal and then not expect is to lead to more human trafficking around the world. Prostitution is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment. Usually when you think about prostitution you think about out of the United States. Several days later, Seibert was taken into the police station and questioned about the mysterious mobile home fire. While being interrogated, the officer waved Ms. Seibert s Miranda rights. As technology leads the 21st century, students are now expected to excel and master media literacy as well textual literacy (Jenkins, Clinton, Purushotma, Robison Weigel, 2006). To do this, educators and leaders must insure that there are countless resources to teach new media literacy, whether in school, after school programs or even at home. Teachers, parents, and after school caregivers all have a responsibility and a role to educate students and nurture their new media skills (Jenkins et al., 2006). Literature Review Why should educators consider adding new media literacies to curriculums? The answer is simple: new media literacies or skills emphasize social and communication skills (Jenkins et al., 2006). This new culture requires that students or participants in general be prepared and equipped as full participants having the social skills required to contribute and they must be culturally competent (Jenkins et al., 2006). Almost everyone can remember some aspect of his or her childhood experiences, pleasant and unpleasant alike. Theodore Roethke s poem My Papa s Waltz suggests even further that this concept could be true. The dance described in this poem illustrates an interaction between father and child that contains more than the expected joyous, loving attitude between the two characters. This stanza also provides the reader with the feeling of how aggressive this dance may be. Roethke is apparently referring to his father s belt buckle in the last line of the third stanza. During an aggressive act such as this, a small child would experience pain from such a man s belt buckle scraping across his ear in this fashion, yet the child refrains from any type of resistance. Perhaps this is caused by the child s fear that his father will become angry, so the child simply endures the pain and tries to enjoy the moment, for he may also feel love and attention that he may not receive regularly from his father. Bridges 3 John J. McKenna offers us further suggestions about the feelings suggested in this poem. In McKenna s article, two of the holograph manuscripts to My Papa s Waltz are discussed. McKenna implies that the changes made between these manuscripts are further evidence that this poem shows mixed emotions through the tone that Roethke utilizes. These holograph manuscripts are labeled MS A and MS B at the University of Washington where they are contained in the archives. The first of these changes discussed in McKenna s article is the gender of the child in the poem. In Jay Z s essay One Eye Open , Jay Z shares his account, as a pioneer of the genre itself, of how hip hop started to gain its popularity and standing back when he was a young child and how it provides the people means to support their needs. In her essay From the Frying Pan into the Fire , Arlie Russell Hochschild shares what does it take to create a culture, she focused on how the capitalist economic system became a culture itself instead of supporting one. Although hip hop may have started out as an opposition to some of the values of capitalism, a lot of aspects of the hip hop culture thrive from the capitalist economy, it just follows a different set of rules. Even though many might think that hip hop is a form of art and that capitalism is an economic system, that is not all that they are, they can also be identified as cultural systems. A culture is created when groups of people start to have unique social patterns, like their own food, cloth, language and what not. Another way a culture is created is through rituals and an ideology that a group of people start following. This proves my point because if the moon landing was faked, this many people could not keep a secret for this long. If the moon landing was faked, this should have been exposed in less than 10 years. Furthermore, Nixon Library says that, An estimated 600 million people watched the moon landing. If this many people watched it, they would have found out real proof that the moon landing is faked. Because of these reasons, the moon landing could not have been faked. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, some people will not believe this because it is NASA, but phys.org has said that, India s first lunar missions has captured images of the landing site of the Apollo 15 craft. • 42. Duke Students And Workers In Solidarity Summary Summary This past Friday nine students, members of Duke Students Workers in Solidarity have been protesting a sit in on Duke University campus in the Allen Administration building, while supporters camped outside on campus grounds. The students have been researching the history of workers rights and political organization, while looking into the treatment of Duke s lowest paid employees, which has become the central theme of the protest. The protest started out about an incident relating to a parking lot incident involving a senior administrator, Mr. Trask two years ago, who hit a parking attendant, made a racial slur and drove away. He never admitted to any of the charges, however apologized to the attendant for his conduct. This week ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I decided to write about this article instead, which I found extremely interesting. I thought about how refreshing it was to read about students taking on issues of economic inequalities for campus workers, who some may feel don t really affect them or concern them. As stated in the summary, Duke is no stranger to sit ins as a similar protest in 1999n was organized to ensure the university was not using sweatshops to manufacture Duke clothing. What is this saying about Duke University? Is Duke a promoter of cheap labor and paying low wages to their employees? From a public relations position it is concerning for the reputation of the university, the community who depends on Duke for employment and students who attend the university. The learning that comes from this is that students are realizing their legal rights to politically organize protests, and they are winning. The concerns and needs of college workers have seemed to have been overlooked by Duke University. The college operates in a bureaucratic sense. Much in the same way the government is more concerned with process and procedures at the expense of efficiency or common ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Lily Dialectical Journal The fog was like tracing paper over her eyes. From what she could see above, the blue sky was turning navy. Lily was standing at a bus stop wishing she was wearing gloves and a hat. She pulled her coat ever tighter around herself. Her lips were numb, her jaw fighting to chatter. The bus was late and she was meant to be meeting her friend Daisy on it. Daisy, when approached with the idea of travelling via public transport to the unpronounceable French café she desperately wanted to go to, seemed disgusted at the very notion. Lily reminded her that not everyone could rely on their Daddy buying them a new car as soon as they turned seventeen and that it certainly wasn t her fault if it was made unavailable due to an MOT. Daisy blushed prettily. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was hard to believe that she was only eighteen and no one found it harder to believe than Daisy. I was starting to think I had got on the wrong bus! What a nightmare! If I ever step foot in such a vehicle again it will be too soon. Lily sat down next to her best friend and felt the usual sensation of jealousy towards Daisy s natural panache and the unmistakable underdressed feeling she got whenever next to her despite being on a bus. The feelings would fade though. They always did. Daisy then leaned in close and spoke in a hushed voice; Did you know it is the ungodly temperature of minus five degrees outside? Lily laughed. The bus started again and they left the bus stop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. An Observation of Development of Danio Rerio An Observation of Development of Danio rerio Principles of Nervous System Development An observation of development of Danio rerio Xenopus laevis and Danio rerio are two models that are extensively used to study early embryonic development, in particular, neurulation. During this practical Danio rerio was used as the model, however the advantages and disadvantages of the use of both models will be discussed herein. Both Xenopus and Zebrafish are excellent model organisms in the study of development. They can both be generated in the lab at relatively low cost and development of the embryos can be observed within a relatively short time frame. The eggs themselves are also very easy to observe due to their transparency. Xenopus can be generated through in vitro fertilisation or natural mating with an optimal temperature of 23°C (Xenbase.org 2014). Zebrafish similarly can be generated in relatively large sizes, by maintaining them on long day photoperiods of about 14 hours of light and 10 hours of dark with their development, once fertilized and incubated between 26 28°C, hatching between 3 4 days (Bradford and Sun 1994). Both Xenopus and Zebrafish have a known genome and knockdowns of genes etc., can be easily performed and observed as micro manipulation of both Zebrafish and Xenopus are relatively easy to do as they are robust embryos. It is also worth mentioning that while both animals are excellent models for development, genetic studies cannot be done on Xenopus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Essay on Ford value enhacement plan Ford Value Enhancement Plan (VEP) In April 2000, Ford Motor Co. announced a shareholder Value Enhancement Plan (VEP) to significantly recapitalize the firm s ownership structure. Ford had accumulated $23 billion in cash reserves and under the VEP would return as much as $10 billion of this cash to shareholders. In exchange for each share currently held, the plan would give stockholders one new share plus the choice of receiving $20 in either cash or additional new Ford common shares. Shareholders electing to receive cash would be taxed on these distributions at capital gain rates. Among other things, the plan provided a means for the Ford family to obtain liquidity without having to dilute their 40% voting interest (even though they own ... The VEP includes three options for different kinds of Shareholders: Option 1: Shareholders who prefer Cash. Option 2: Shareholders who prefer More Shares Option 3: Passive Investors Value Enhancement Plan has tax consequences. Those shareholders electing to receive the new shares of Ford instead of the 20 buck bonus will not be directly affected by the tax. The new shares are considered a tax free exchange, with the holding period of the new shares considered the same as when the original Ford stock was purchased. Shareholders choosing to re invest in stocks can be incentivized by having more voting power and control over the management. Those shareholders choosing to collect the $20 cash per share will have to pay capital gains tax on the cash distribution just as though they have sold part of their shares. This can be either considered a short term or long term capital gain, depending on when your original Ford shares were purchased. Benefit out of opportunity Cost for the shareholders to invest the $20 in a different firm. Ford family benefited by retaining their voting control since they did not have to surrender their Class B shares. Since firms incur the re purchase option by offering $20 cash for each stock bought back, the number of outstanding shares will be reduced. The Earnings per share will increase leading to an increased stock price. Long term gains (held more than a year) are taxed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. What Does Plantinga s Evolutionary Argument Against... Rachel Woznicki Short Paper 1 01/27/15 What Does Plantinga s Evolutionary Argument Against Naturalism Say? Plantinga s argument against naturalism is very engaging. He begins to state that a lot of people believing Darwin s theory of evolution have misguided beliefs about naturalism. Comprehensively, he argues that the contingency of humans having stable cognitive faculties is extremely inferior. Plantinga cites C.S. Lewis in recognizing that evolutionary naturalism leads us to distrust. He brought up that even Darwin had doubts along those lines. The essence of reasoning in Plantinga s argument is that the reliability of evolutionary naturalism is very low. He says the people who believe the two, evolution and naturalism, go hand in hand should reevaluate its soundness; and hence, withhold approval from all other beliefs including evolutionary naturalism, said to be self defeating (316). ... • 47. My Original Definition Of Social Media Essay 1. My original definition for antisemitism was: antisemitism is the conscience or unconscious hatred of a Jew or Jews, because of certain characteristics that the hater believes the Jew or all Jews possess by being Jewish. However, one thing that my original definition does not hint towards the wide spectrum of behaviors that are antisemitic. This is an advantage that your definition has. Your definition mentions a spectrum form mildest expressions to exterminatory activities. Your definition goes on to list different examples of antisemitic behavior. One category of behavior is not mentioned though, and that is the use of social media to do such things as cyber bullying. We talked some during the course about social media, especially at the end of the course when we discussed the six parentheses symbol. Perhaps a better definition of antisemitism could come about by combining our two definitions and making mention of social media. The new definition could be: antisemitism is defined as the conscience or unconscious hatred of Jews or Judaism from its mildest expressions to exterminatory activates. The activists include making jokes, cyberbullying, the destruction of religious objects, defacing synagogues, and murdering Jewish people. This new definition considers actions despite weather or not the hater is aware of them. For example, a person could have always been told that Jews are greedy. This guy goes around telling jokes about Jews being greedy. He is engaging in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Comparing Weird Richard And Welcome To Holland People everyday are going through experiences. Whether it is an experience filled with fun and joy, or one filled with sorrow and tears, these experiences can teach valuable lessons. These lessons about experience can be displayed through two works of writing Weird Richard , and Welcome to Holland , and an experience of my own. Firstly, in the short story Weird Richard , the speaker learns from experience not to let peers influence his friendship. Secondly, in the essay Welcome to Holland , the author Emily Kingsley learns about opening up to experience even if it s not what she thought it should be. Finally, in an experience of my own I learnt about accepting change, and about doing something that might be hard at first, but it really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this essay, Holland represents having a child with a disability, and Italy is the child she expected. She describes her experience as planning a trip to Italy, and then ending up in Holland. It can cause you to become flustered because she was expecting to go to Italy and not Holland. Kingsley writes, the important thing is that they haven t taken you to a horrible, disgusting filthy place. It s just different. Her experience with ending up in Holland has taught Kingsley that just because what you got is different from what you were expecting, doesn t mean that it s a bad thing. In addition, Kingsley has learnt from her experience that even though she might be in pain because everyone else is going to Italy and she ended up in Holland, if she had spent her whole life being upset that you didn t get to go to Italy, you will never be able to enjoy the amazing things about Holland. • 49. Analysis Of Pygmalion By George Bernard Shaw Essay Pygmalion, by George Bernard Shaw, describes Shaw s viewpoint on social class distinctions in the 1900s by describing characters of the upper, middle, and lower classes in the play. Through the characters descriptions, language, and actions, the distinction between classes becomes very prominent. Similarly, Galileo, by Bertolt Brecht, describes Brecht s take on the social class structure during Galileo s time and how the differences between classes affected Galileo s opportunity to do scientific research. Both plays depict a society ruled by the upper class and a lack of coherence among the upper, middle, and lower classes that leads to eventual conflict. In both Pygmalion and Galileo, the authors highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the different social classes in order to critique how the relationships between people from different classes affect their interactions with each other. The different classes in both plays had their advantages and disadvantages; however, some classes had more benefits than others. In Pygmalion, the upper class was the most privileged money wise. Henry Higgins was an upper class educated man who had quite a reputation and enough money to take on the challenge of transforming Eliza, a lower class woman, into an upper class citizen. As a member of the upper class, Higgins had access to chocolates, and taxis, and gold, and diamonds that members of the lower class didn t necessarily have (Shaw 19).
