Essay On Corporal Punishment In Schools
Corporal Punishment in Schools
Corporal punishment is the deliberate infliction of pain as retribution for an offence, or for the purpose
of disciplining or reforming a wrongdoer, or to deter attitudes or behaviour deemed unacceptable
(Miller, Vandome, amp; McBrewster, 2009). Corporal punishment can be divided into three
categories, these include: judicial, domestic and school. For the purpose of this essay we will be
focusing on school corporal punishment, the advantages and guidelines to follow when using corporal
punishment and the disadvantages and effects on children when child abuse is used in the name of
corporal punishment.
According to Vockell (1991), Corporal punishment is the infliction of physical pain, contingent upon

Punishment must be administered soon after the offence. Children tend to forget the reason why they
are being punished after a long period of time has passed, making them believe that they should not be
punished. It is also best to specify the behavior being punished.
Educators must administer corporal punishment dispassionately. Teachers tend to spank or hit a child
more aggressively because they might not like the child as a person. Not to mention, teachers should
be bother when they are administering corporal punishment to any child.
Administer corporal punishment in front of appropriate witnesses, these witnesses should be regarded
as reliable and truthful in case of litigation. And, corporal punishment should be carried out with
appropriate confidentiality, because, what good would it do to humiliate the child.
And finally, make sure you follow all the rules and regulations prescribed by the school system, this is
to assure you have the support and an effective defense, should a legal challenge arise.
But with every advantage there is an equal disadvantage. Most people believe that corporal
punishment in schools is not morally acceptance. This is where the disadvantages occur. According to
Vockell (1991), punishment is not likely to be logically related to the misbehavior (p. 279). This just
means that the students who are punished for misbehavior not worthy of punishment are victims of
artificial punishment. Artificial

Pediatrician Discrimination And Discrimination
Pediatricians initiating their job may be unaware of the racism by the hospital staff, majorly white,
unconsciously. Patients who are minorities may experience a sense of fear of going to the hospital to
be unconsciously discriminated against and not being able to connect with someone of their race or
culture. Without this connection, patients feel timid when they are not able to communicate with
someone who is not of their race, gender or culture causing a border between the patient and the
pediatrician. Therefore, as Dossey (2015) says If Black doctors are marginalized, it is a cinch their
patients feel marginalized as well (para. 8). Meaning that not only minority pediatricians are
discriminated, but the patients as well. To forget these patients, have health care issues because their
race, culture, or socioeconomic status leads to a major healthcare disadvantage. Indeed, empathy
should accompany the pediatrician when conversing the patient s problem to create a better experience
for both. Thoughts, feelings, and behavior related to race and ethnicity play a critical role in health
care disparities (Penner, 2013, para. 1). This quote implies that it is not only the physical aspects that
might be judged but also the emotional state as well. In fact, many other factors influence the
unconscious racism to minorities patients and pediatricians such as socioeconomic status, [and]
language proficiency [...etc.] (Penner, 2013, pg. 4). Equally important it is to say the

Democratic Party Vs. Democratic Parties
Since the beginning the United States the its form of government has been considered unique. While it
is different from many other forms of government it gives each U.S. citizen the ability to speak their
mind on who they believe their country should be governed by and what laws they should be governed
under. In making these decisions citizens generally take a side, Republican or Democrat. Republican
and Democratic parties are two of the nations oldest political parties however, when they originated
the Republican party was the Democratic party that we have today and the Democratic party was the
Conservative party we have today. To put that in simpler terms, the Democratic party were the
Confederates in the civil war while the Republican party was the Union. Democrats of that time
favored a limited government, supported the idea of manifest destiny, and fought for the continuation
of slavery whereas the Republican party of that time opposed slavery, favored government policies
such as nation currency, high tariffs, or increased funding on the university system. The switch to the
parties we know today is said to have happened gradually between 1872. While the party system today
is flipped from the original Democratic and Republican parties it still flows from historic roots but the
reasoning s and demographics behind who identifies as Liberal and who identifies as Conservative has
advanced.
The basis of the government was set by three men, John Locke, Thomas Hobbs, and

Similarities Between Julius And Ethel Rosenberg
Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, Cold War Spies During the late 1940 s and the early 1950 s, America
began to find themselves in the middle of fear as the Cold War began to approach. Tensions began to
grow between the two nations of the United States and Soviet Union. These tensions lasted for
roughly seven years, which lead to international episodes. Leader of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin
and leader of the United States Joseph Stalin had led their dictatorship into disaster. Both the United
States and Soviet Union had fought as allies against Nazi, Germany. This war had become capitalism
between communism both countries had different belief principles. These differing views lead to a war
that would change America. Resulting in the first nuclear attacks, that were successful by the Soviets
in 1949, American began to fear that the people around them were Soviet spies, passing on nuclear
technology from the Unites States to Russia. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were a married couple, which

Explanation Of The Song American Pie By Don Mclean
In the song American Pie, by Don McLean, produced in 1971, McLean uses this song to
commemorate the death of singer Buddy Holly but he is able to also describe what he thinks is one of
the most influential periods of American history; 1959 1970. The speaker in the song is Don because
he s telling what has happened since the death of Buddy holly and how much has influenced a change
in society. In the song bye bye mrs American pie there to represent the innocence of American that
Holly took when he died. I chose this song because it was one of my father s favorite songs. And since
the main idea of the song is about death, after my father died I felt a connection with the song.
American pie relates to an old saying as American as apple pie .

Speech Conversion Using Neural Networks
CS 549 TOPICS IN ARITIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TEXT TO SPEECH CONVERSION USING
NEURAL NETWORKS Project Report Firstly, Artificial Intelligence was used in 1956, at the
Dartmouth conference and from then it is expanded because of various proposed theories and many
new principles developed by its researchers. It is an area of computer science that focusses on creating
machines that can engage on behaviors of humans, solve the computational models for complex
problems. Here Neural Networks are a computational approach to AI, which is based on the great
collection of Neural Units, which models a Human brain as connected large number of neurons. These
neurons are connected to each other to process the information as of the human brain. Artificial neural
network (ANN) learn by testing and training data. The Artificial Intelligence in brief can be defined as
the study and design of intelligent agents. Text to Speech Conversion using Neural networks: In this
project, we are developing Natural Language Processing (NLP), which is related to processing human
language by computer. The base paper for the implementation of our project is Natural Language
processing techniques in Text To Speech synthesis and Automatic Speech Recognition Here the base
paper we referred depicts usage of natural language processing techniques which includes the
production of audio from the input text i.e., text to speech synthesis and the inverse process i.e.,
automatic speech recognition. From this paper we

Philosophy for Children Essay
I. The concept of the Community of Inquiry
Central to the heart of P4C lies the notion of a community of inquiry. Originally a term from Pierce to
reference interaction among scientists, the concept of COI dominates the discussion of educational
revisionism as presented by commentators on the P4C movement. The key description marking a COI
is: a group (a social setting) of individuals who use dialogue (interaction among participants) to search
out the problematic borders of a puzzling concept (inquiry as philosophical.) Implicit in the ideal
workings of this group are two key concepts:
a demonstration of thinking that is caring (each member is supported and allowed to be an integral
member of the community), creative (new ideas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two of these controversial issues are:
the ontological nature of the individual vs. that of the community the criteria of a good reason (the
question of truth) or discovery vs. construction
It is important to recognize the presence of these issues within the P4C method and to explore how
these issues color our vision of that method. We will note certain tensions among writers about P4C in
terms of which metaphysical vision best embraces the ideals behind the COI. In the sections below I
will suggest also a series of questions that are provoked by discussions of the COI which will
hopefully lead to further reflection and dialogue with the P4C community itself.
II. Individual vs. Community
In his article The Five Communities (1) David Kennedy offers us a rich differentiation of a COI into
communities of gesture, language, mind, love, and interest. (2) The concepts of gesture and language
highlight the nuances of human communication that embrace physical stance, the unspoken
presentation of the body itself as response and the powerful nature of spoken language as enriched by
stress, pitch, contour and juncture (3) in addition to one s personal vocabulary and idiosyncratic use of
words. By his phrase, community of mind Kennedy attempts to capture a phenomenological sense of
mind as active agent immersed in a spatio temporal affective locus which is ever changing. He draws a
portrait of the situatedness of thought which nevertheless struggles to

The Position Of Chief Executive
The position of Chief Executive in a company is one of the most desirable positions any given
company has to offer. Chief Executives in a company are at the top of the company ladder. They
receive excellent pay, and great benefits. In the social realm, CEO s are generally considered to be
socially superior, and their lives are coveted by members of the middle class. The opportunity to
become a Chief Executive is rare, and the process of achieving this position is very difficult. One must
be employed with an enterprise and perform exceptionally in order to climb the company ladder and
work their way towards this coveted and desirable position. While business degrees are not always a
requirement for a CEO, they certainly do play a huge role in determining your eligibility to be in this
position. Companies will desire business related degrees in their applicants, and the first step to
becoming a CEO is becoming a lower wage worker at the company you wish to move up in. There are
some degrees that will be especially useful for the long term goal of obtaining the position of CEO in
a company, but before covering requirements and strategies, let s look at a basic job description of the
Chief Executive position. A Chief Executive has one responsibility; to do everything necessary to
ensure the success of a company. There is no explicit checklist of things a CEO is expected to do, they
must attend to whatever comes up and address issues in order that everything can work

Causes And Effects Of Autism
When someone mentions electric shock therapy what comes to your mind? Is there a connection
somewhere in your family tree to Fragile X ? Are there toxins in the air that are more dangerous than
we think? Can watching too much television while you are pregnant actually be harmful to your
unborn baby? What could all of these questions possibly have in common? The answer is Autism.
Imagine the overwhelming joy of holding your healthy newborn child and counting ten perfect fingers
and toes. It is hard to believe, when you look at his big blue eyes and dimples, that he could ever be
anything less than perfect. But two years later, you hear the words your child has autism , and can t
help wondering if you are responsible in some way.
Thesis Statement
There is growing evidence that the rapid rise in reported cases of autism is caused, and influenced
equally, by genetic and environmental factors. Environmental factors include a broad range of
influences as varied as parental age, birth complications and maternal nutrition at conception, vaccines
and exposure to pollution during early brain development. Most genetic factors are considered in
combination with environmental ones. It is believed that over time genetic changes brought on by the
environment are passed on to future generations predisposing them to disorders as autism. While
thousands of dollars and countless studies claim to have found a concrete link between environmental
and genetic factors and the new

Imperialism In Venezuela
In the present day immigration into Venezuela is welcomed and rather easy. The country continues to
be a magnetic pole of sorts for immigrants. A number of reasons create this attraction including the
simplicity of migration, ease of becoming an entrepreneur, the current political situation, and access to
quality health care. According to 2010 World Bank statistics only 521,500 Venezuelans lived abroad
while 1,007,400 people immigrated to the country. Venezuela is clearly a haven for immigrants.
However, not all citizens are content with this fact and choose to emigrate elsewhere. A small
percentage of the population, most typically those falling into the upper middle class to upper class
distinctions, have expressed discontent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What I Thought Represented A Good Teacher
In my first field experience, I acquired many skills and knowledge in what I thought represented a
good teacher. In my total time spent in my observation hours I saw, two schools, eight different
teachers, and four different grade levels. The grades I viewed the most were first and second,
particularly because these are the grades I wish to teach in. For the majority of the time I spent with all
the grade levels, I found most of the teachers inspiring in some aspects of their lesson cycle, teaching
style and of course the creative décor around their rooms. I found that the most inspiring or beneficial
teachers were in Hondo, Texas, at Meyer elementary because of their unique structure and
compassionate curriculum for all of the students in which I want to pass on to my students in my
teaching future. At Meyer Elementary I first started with Mrs. Jessica Martinez s class, overall I found
her class to be well structured, organized and successful at most. But, She did not have her class quite
under control, and had difficulty retrieving their attention span, which I found odd with the multiple
teacher assistants she had, however I found that her lessons where quite intriguing to the students
knowledge. One lesson I found extremely stimulating was her word of the day, in which the students
compared and contrasted that specific vocabulary word throughout the activities in their school day.
The second teacher I observed was Mr. Gabe Cortez s P.E. class for first and second

Systems Analysis and Design 9th Chapter 9
1. Explain the main difference between a file oriented system and a database system.
A file oriented system utilizes data in a regular OS file based format where a database system uses a
database engine that organizes data in a database in a table format utilizing rows for each record.
2. What is a DBMS? Briefly describe the components of a DBMS.
DBMS stands for Database Management System. A DBMS is a collection of tools, features, and
interfaces that enables users to add, update, manage, access, and analyze the contents of a database.
A DBMS is made up of a DML (data manipulation language), Schema and subschemas, Physical data

9. Explain the difference between a logical record and a physical record.
The canned answer is a logical record is a set of field values that describes a single person, place,
thing, or event. Logical records as seen by an application is a group of related fields regardless of how
or where the data is stored physically. For example, across multiple hard drives or multiple tables,
databases etc.
A physical record is the smallest data unit that can be handled by the operating system and has to do
with the physical bytes that exist on a hard drive or other storage location. A physical record can
contain many logical records.
10. How would a specific date, such as May 1, 2004, be represented as an absolute date? According to
the book, on page 288, Microsoft uses Jan 1, 1900 as it s base date. If you have excel you can use a
spreadsheet to calculate the date or just use the example provided.
If May 13, 2003 is 37754, to get May 1, 2004 add 353 days and it should be 38107, but because 2004
was a leap year, it would be 38108.
If you use Excel, enter the date May 1, 2004 into a cell, then format as a number and it will also give
you 38108 as the answer. If you are writing the program, you can use any date as a base date, such as
Jan 1, 2005. This date would be 1, every additional day would add 1 to the count, at the end of the
year, Dec 31, 2005, the number would be 365 since it s not a leap year.
Using base dates, you can calculate

How Did The Romans Contribute To Government
The Romans have contributed greatly to our modern era. They ve influenced our law and government.
Many ideas of the American Legal System came from the Roman Republican Government. Like our
law, the Romans also believed that everyone was equal under the law. They also during court, a person
is considered innocent until he/she is convicted of the crime. The Romans invented the very idea of a
Republican Government, they elected people to lead the government and to make decisions for the
people. Many countries, including the U.S., have a republican based government.
The Romans have also contributed to our calendar we use today. It started out as the Julian Calendar,
which was invented by the Roman dictator Julius Caesar. The calendar had 12 months, 365 days, and
a leap year. It was the most accurate calendar at the time it was invented. It was used in ... Show more

However, the Roman Empire wasn t always Christian. It started our worshipping multiple gods from
the Greek religion. The only difference was that the Romans changed the gods names to their own
Roman names. They believed in that religion until A.D. 380 when Emperor Theodosius, after being
baptized into the Christian Church, made Christianity the sole, authorized religion of the Roman
Empire. It was because of that, the Christian Church is now the largest religion in the world today.
Once the Romans began conquering territories throughout Europe, the Romans spread their language
that they spoke, Latin around Europe. The people of the lands that the Romans conquered spoke
different languages than the Romans however. So, what happened was that Latin would mix with the
native languages evolving into languages of their own. These languages are known as the Romance
Languages which are French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Romanian. These languages are similar
to each other and are all still used today in Europe and around the

Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis
Younger Dryas Climate Event
Occurring about 12,800 years ago, The Younger Dryas Climate Event was an abrupt climate change
that dropped the Earth temperature by about 10 degrees, bringing dry winds ( Abrupt Climate Change
, 2003). This event followed a warming trend that had resulted in glacier melting. As the melting water
filtered down the Mississippi and into the Gulf of Mexico, its route suddenly diverted, carrying the
water east into the Atlantic Ocean. This change in the water path disrupted both the salinity and the
flow in the ocean system, thus changing the climate of the Northern region. Unfortunately, 30 species
of animals became extinct as a result of the changes, and nearly 80 percent of North America s large
animals disappeared (video). Ending abruptly, the Younger Dryas officially ... Show more content on

Although no debate exists regarding whether this event occurred, several theories have been created
explaining the reason why it occurred. One such theory is the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis, also
known as the Clovis Comet Hypothesis, which proposes that a comet or asteroid hit North America,
killing off many animals and human instantly, and non adapting species were also eradicated due to
starvation (video). One critique of this hypothesis is that no crater has been found on Earth s surface;
however, it is likely that the comet hit the glacier, which ultimately melted and left no physical sign.
Another hypothesis depends on the idea of a thermohaline circulation shutdown due to the changes in
ocean circulation ( Abrupt Climate Change , 2003). A problem with this hypothesis, however, is that
another glacier melting event occurred following the Younger Dryas, and it did not create a massive
climate change. Another theory states that the climate change was brought on by Earth s orbital
changes, but much more information is needed regarding this

If Garmin watched this company closely it could provide an opportunity to gain a significant portion
of the overseas Personal Navigation Device (PND) market. This is currently the only sector Trimble
beats Garmin at a 34% to 47% ratio, and has for the past seven years. This merger would also require
detailed consideration as it would require international equities to be merged along with significant
human and financial resources.
Conclusion
Garmin stands to gain from a merger with Trimble. The merger would allow Garmin to acquire a
significant portion of the European personal navigation device market share at minimal cost. Garmin
has the cash resources to execute the acquisition and while Trimble s finances are in decline for the
near term they are expected to remain a solid long term investment. The acquisition would result in an
approximate $13 dollar increase in Garmin s stock price, and increase long term equities. Other
companies Garmin should consider are KVL Technologies for its opportunity to get ahead of maritime
mobile communications technologies, and Roper Industries, which would enable expansion into a new
market segment that hedges future losses in the PND market.

How The Roman Catholic Church s Stance On Peaceful...
Conversion in Medieval Iberia can invoke ambivalent feelings. Christians originally wanted to convert
Jews and Muslims through kind words and religious teachings from the Bible. This idea, nevertheless,
evolved over the centuries and Christians began converting non believers through violence and
compulsion. Also, even after individuals were converted, Christians did not fully trust their
motivations, and believed they would remiss into their old religions. While Marian miracles did help
alleviate these tensions, a number of vicious acts were committed against Jews and Muslims during
this time period. In this essay, I am going to examine the idea of conversion from the Christian
perspective, and how Christians were able to tempt Jews and Muslims to convert. I am also going to
compare the contradictory nature of converting through peaceful and violent means. This comparison
will showcase how the Roman Catholic Church s stance on peaceful conversion was overcome by
local Christian communities. Conversion is the act of changing one s religion to another religion.
During the twelfth to fifteenth century in Medieval Iberia, a number of Jews and Muslims converted to
Christianity. To Christians, conversions represented the elimination of dangerous enemies and the
ongoing triumph of the new Israel. Christians viewed themselves as the chosen people, as they
believed that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save them, and formed a new covenant, while the Jews

Social And Social Class In Charles DickensGreat Expectations
In the novel Great Expectations, author and social reformer, Charles Dickens presents an appropriate
example of hope in class mobility. Social and financial status performs a real role in our society, even
today. Similar to Dickens time, the well off tend to get more acknowledgment and the lower class
tends to get a bad reputation for being uneducated citizens. He hoped to rectify to improve society.
The primary theme is social class has no connection to moral merit.
The novel is narrated from the point of view of the main character, Pip. He narrates to the audience
throughout his life, illustrating the contrasting stages from childhood to gentleman. In Pips belief,
becoming a gentleman will automatically construct happiness in himself. Pip was a child whose
parents died when he was very young. He tells the story of being raised by his sister, Mrs. Joe and her
husband, Joe Gargery, whom Pip shares a special kind of camaraderie. I wished Joe had been rather
more genteelly brought up, and then I should have been so too. (ch.8) Unfortunately, the three of them
live in a village which classifies them as poor.
Pip is informed of a letter left on the front door, by his sister, inviting him to go over to Miss
Havisham s house. I had heard of Miss Havisham up town everybody for miles round, had heard of
Miss Havisham up town as an immensely rich and grim lady who lived in a large and dismal house
barricaded against robbers, and who led a life of seclusion. (ch.7) She is

The Effects of Fires in Western Amazonia
In this article we are presented with the effects of fire and wildlife dynamics in Western Amazonia.
This a very intriguing article written by researchers at the Institution Technology Department of
Biological Sciences in Melbourne, Florida. Researches both on local and regional scales were able to
ascertain the question, if bamboo forests have historically covered an area as extensive as its current
distributions? During the study, the intrigued wanted to uncover how the modern extent of bamboo
could have resulted from the historical increases of fire presence and whether past invasions of
bamboo dominance is persistent to the landscape and future state of Western Amazonia. Through the
use of Landsat imagery, field surveys and other means of technology, these researchers were able to
show the impacts of fire on bamboo in major cities of Los Amigos, Cocha Cashu, Peru, and Acre,
Brazil. The purpose of this article has gained the interest of many and gives the results of how and
why there is an existence of Bamboo forests in these areas today. There sole purpose was to study
paired samples on local and regional scales within and outside large bamboo patches in three regions
in western Amazonia (Los Amigos, Cocha Cash, and Acre). Researchers wanted to explain remote
sensing techniques to contradictory explain how it has been used to map western Amazonian bamboo
forests, leading to an estimation for a total extent of vegetation types. These studied bamboo species

Anorexia Nervosa And Bulimia Nervosa
Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa are a few of the most common disorders struggled with today.
Anorexia Nervosa is a condition of the intense fear to gain weight, which results in consistent lack of
eating. Bulimia Nervosa, involves frequent episodes of binge eating followed by throwing up because
of fear of gaining weight. The mortality rate for anorexia is the highest of all mental disorders yet the
genetic factors relating them were not a huge concern to look into. It is easy to think that Anorexia and
Bulimia are mentality induced only, but there are indeed genetic factors related despite how small the
evidence may be. Personality disorders are heritable, and are commonly developed after an eating
disorder or a large reason someone develops one. The study of serotonin, a compound found in
Bulimia, Anorexia and depression, can be passed down through genes and they play a small part in
eating disorders worth acknowledging. Inheriting genes that make an individual athletic naturally can
affect the chances of eating disorder. There is no evidence that one particular gene could cause an
eating disorder, but there are various traits and levels of compounds that when inherited, increase the
likelihood of developing one. Personality disorders are more likely to develop from an eating disorder
and are common preceding factors for one. Individuals exposed to stressful environments who are
genetically more vulnerable, are at risk for developing an eating disorder. Narcissists

popular gambling destination. Obviously, a man of the cloth was compelling victim for the ship s
captain, John Russell. Russell, along with his crew, confronted the grifters, but they initially refused to
return the money. However, the card cheats decided to return the money to the minister after Russell
threatened to tear down the gambling hall by dragging it into the river attached to his boat.

Comparing Sonnet XLIII And D. H. Lawrence s Piano
In the poems, Sonnet XLIII by Edna St. Vincent Millary and Piano by D.h. Lawrence, they are
different in the subject matter, rhyme, and imagery. Although they are similar when it comes to tone
and theme. In the poem, Piano Lawrence evokes a pleasant time when he was a child, yet he is sad
because he misses his mother (55). The poem, Sonnet XLIII Millay is mourning her present life
because of her poor choices in her past. When Millay was younger, she would have many guys come
in her life and go out the door. This left her in alone toward the end of her life (130). In Piano
Lawrence his subject matter is when he was a child, his mother would play the piano and he would he

her older years; as she sates Thus in the winter stands the lonely tree (130). In both poems, they have a

more time with his mother. He uses a child in his poem as his imagery of his childhood (55). In Sonnet

Vo2max Jump Rope Experiment
This study examined the effects of jump rope training on maximal oxygen uptake (referred to as
VO2Max). Previous studies show that jumping rope can also be used to develop the coordination of
neuromuscular skills, muscle strength, and cardiovascular endurance. It burns calories and builds
strength in the upper and lower body (Duzgun, 2010, pg. 184). The researcher hypothesized that these
benefits of jump rope training would result in an increased VO2Max. Before testing, a single
participant took a treadmill VO2Max pretest. The participant followed a jump rope training schedule
for six weeks. After training, the participant took a posttest. The pretest and posttest showed a
VO2Max increase of 1.1 ml/kg/min. These results indicate that jump ... Show more content on

The Hoover Dam and Its Construction Essay
Outside of China, the United States is the most dammed country on the planet. Counting only dams
taller than fifty feet high, the U.S. has some 5,000 dams that range from giant hydroelectric dams such
as the Grand Coulee in Washington State to flood control dams in the southeast and dams that provide
water for irrigation in California. Overall the United States has as many as 2.5 million dams of one
sort or another. The design and construction of many of these dams took place between 1930 and
1975. This 45 years period is known as the golden age of dam building, starting with the construction
of the Hoover Dam beginning in 1931. By the 1970s the golden age of dam construction began to
come to an end with increased concerns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the dam was located in such a remote location roads and railways had to be built to bring the
workers and materials to the site. Boulder City, a camp was also built to house the thousands of
workers. Before the construction of Hoover Dam even began Six Companies, Inc. had received over
2,400 job applications and more than 12,000 letters of inquiry from job seekers. Many men arrived
with all of their possessions and their families ready to begin a new life in the desert. Many of these
people were forced to wait and live in tent communities and shantytowns around Las Vegas. This
created very poor living conditions where more than 25 workers and family members died of heat
prostration between June and July of 1931. Fortunately the U.S. government anticipated this problem
and had already created plans to build a modern city, known as Boulder City, to house the workers and
their families near the site of Hoover Dam. To the surprise of both the government and Six
Companies, Inc. Boulder City turned into a community. Churches, a school, a newspaper, and a library
were all built in Boulder City making it a model community [iii].
Before construction of the actual dam could take place the Colorado River first had to be diverted, this
was done by tunneling four huge diversion tunnels through the bedrock of Black Canyon. These
tunnels were 56 feet in diameter, 4,000 feet long, and

Analysis of Machiavelli´s The Prince
The great philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli, having such beliefs, puts to rest man s downfall and
presents that way to preservation in his book The Prince, which produces an effective guide for
political action based off of his own philosophical beliefs and history s past. The Prince rest on the
principle that, above all, the foundation for a ruler s success is within verita effettuale or, the
effectiveness of a prince s rule. Machiavelli urges rulers to focus on acting in ways that will result in
the best political dominance rather than to be concerned with what others think of his actions.
Furthermore, he mandates that for a prince to uphold his objective as the maintainer of the state, he
must not be bound to a set code of morality. With that, Machiavelli takes out what was previously said
on human morals and teaches that rulers do not, in fact, need to possess personal moral character in
order to be effective political leaders. Indeed, a prince must learn to pay attention to moral qualities in
such a manner as to be able to use them to gain the necessary power to control the state. He claims, a
prince should not deviate from what is good, if that is possible, but he should know how to do evil, if
that is necessary (Machiavelli). With this in mind, Machiavelli addresses how a prince should best use
love, hate, fear, and cruelty to garner the most effective political rule possible. For a prince to lay his
foundation on the people, who are the keepers of morality

Affluenza, The Truman Show
In everyday life you are exposed to media. The media uses techniques such as: propaganda, product
placement, and facts to alter how you view a certain thing. You may not realize how the media twist
and turns such little details to change your perception. My personal view on many things were
changed in time as little as a week. We watched Affluenza, The Truman Show, and many documentary
s that showed how the media can change how you think. One technique that many Medias use is
advertisement. They use advertisement to get you to buy whatever they are trying to sell. Most
advertisements use statistics that are realistic, scare tactics, product placement, and some even show
bias toward another. In the Truman Show, Truman s wife was advertising coco and a knife. She kept
repeating that, that was what Truman drank and used to cook with. She made sure the label was facing
forward when she was talking about it, this is an example of product placement. This technique of
using advertisement was to pull the viewers watching the show to go out and buy the items. They may
also squeeze in sponsors that you may not even realize. For example in the movie elf Coca Cola was
hidden throughout the movie, but was never talked about generally. It catches many eyes and
promotes the product itself without having to even mention it. ... Show more content on

They may mislead the viewer by using the bandwagon effect, which is a phenomenon whereby the
rate of uptake of beliefs, ideas, fads and trends increases the more that they have already been adopted

have it. This technique causes many people to go and buy the new item because it s newer and They
will be accepted if they buy it . Affluenza also explain how people seek self esteem when shopping, so

Yeezus Kanye Analysis
Intro
Yeezus is probably best summed up by the first sound you hear after turning it on. A deafening
distorted synth assaults your ears while Kanye reminds us that he s number one. This overwhelming
introduction was specifically chosen by Kanye for the purpose of conveying the themes of anger and
frustration that will appear throughout the album. It s marked by songs where Kanye declares himself
a God and moments of the most extreme egoism in modern music.
Ye is...shockingly different. It begins with a quiet passage of what I think is manipulated vocals
creating a simple, relaxed melody. Kanye starts rapping about something we ve never really heard him
discuss before: his internal monologue. It sounds calm, like a warm summer morning. Kanye isn t
yelling, he s not telling us how much of a legend he is. Instead he s painting a picture of his struggle
with mental illness. So how the hell are these two albums related? Despite the massive chasm between
them in production, lyricism and presentation...I see them as two sides of the same coin and together
they create a beautiful narrative about who Kanye is as a person. Let s learn more. ... Show more

How To Checkbelt Essay
Most cars built from 1990 on have serpentine belts, what winds along pulleys and powers various
automotive components such as the alternator, power steering pump and air conditioner, and in certain
models the water pump. Other cars may have timing, drive and V belts, and just like serpentine belts,
these are also subject to wear and eventual replacement. It is important for car owners to learn how to
check belts on a car, in an effort to detect problems that may lead to a breakdown and costly repairs.
Step No. 1 Locate the belt. Lift and secure the hood of your vehicle to locate the belt. Find the side of
the engine where the serpentine belt weaves its way through a series of pulleys, and securely held in
place with a tensioner and a bolt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2 Look for trouble signs. As belts age, they begin to exhibit telltale signs of wear, including fraying
and cracking on the top (smooth) side of the belt. On the bottom (ribbed) side of the belt, you may
observe such problems as uneven rib wear, rib damage or even separation. Wear work gloves and use
a flashlight to detect problems. Step No. 3 Check belt tension. Belts should be firmly secured in place
with only a slight amount of give permissible. There are two ways to check belt tension. First, find the
longest run of the belt between two pulleys, lay hold of it with two fingers at the center and twist the
belt toward the engine. If it turns more than 90 degrees, then the belt is loose. Second, press down on
the middle of the belt. A secure belt should give between one half to one inch and not a bit more. Step
No. 4 Replace as needed. If the drive belt needs replacement, refer to the diagram before you get
started. Purchase a new stretch fit belt and tools, then observe how the current one wraps around the
pulleys. Locate the self adjusting tensioner, using the removal tool on the tensioner to release same.
Remove the old belt. Replace any loose or worn pulleys as needed. Next, with the install tool, secure
the belt ribs in the pulley grooves. Lastly, tighten the tensioner, ensuring correct tightness before

Why Am I Here
Why are You Here? I have fallen short in many ways towards the goals that I have made in my life.
No matter how high the standard is set, and whether failure awaits me, perseverance and my faith will
carry me on. Some would label me as a dreamer. Someone could say I have reality to face, but without
dreams we have no hope, and without hope we have nothing inside of us to fuel our deep passion to
succeed and win the race that we have been running. Everyone has his own opinion about college and
how important it is, but only a few will take the initiative to follow through and back what they stand
for. Though a college degree in engineering seems unreachable, I will strive to make this the first
foundational block for my future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through four and a half months of training in technical school, they were able to mold me into what
they expect in the ordinance branch. So far, this has been an amazing experience, and I am proud of
being a small part of the big picture. With that said, I am here for one reason and one reason only. I no
longer have my parents direction, or have someone showing me what is right, and I would be wrong in
making my time here meaningless. Many of my peers would say this is one big party and that they are
here for the girls and the cheap beer, but if I wanted to party, I wouldn t have chosen to pay so much
for one. I think it would be ridiculous of me to waste a perfectly good opportunity to become the man
that I was made to be. My past was unbalanced and reckless, and it would be easy for me to fall back
into my old ways, so it would be wise of me to stay focused while I am here. My life was very
structured and it drove me to want something different, but when I had to face my consequences, I
soon came to want exactly what I was running from. Ironically enough, I am beginning to see what
they were trying to do as parents. It would be nice to finally make them proud to be an influence in my
life, and I will do my best to make that happen. Perception is a lot, and reputation is more, so I plan to
do my best to represent the uniform I wear everywhere I go. When I finally accomplish these goals,
maybe I will be ready for the next mission, but for now it is

Others may feel that America will never accept people of color as equals and thus, may prefer to live
their lives within ethnic boundaries. Nevertheless, these various definitions are not static. American
society is and has been experiencing numerous changes that deal with the issues of the Asian
American minority. Anti Asian laws came in three forms: (1) federal naturalization laws that imposed
a racial barrier on Asian immigrants seeking United States citizenship; (2) federal immigration laws
limiting migration from Asian and Pacific Island countries; (3) state and local laws discriminating
against Asians, often based on their ineligibility for citizenship (Ancheta 22). Asian Americans have
been disenfranchised by discriminatory laws that denied citizenship to Asian immigrants and rendered
them ineligible to vote. It was not until 1943 that Chinese Americans were first permitted to become
citizens; for Asian Indians, it was 1946. For Japanese Americans and other Asian Americans, that right
did not come until 1952. The legacy of these discriminatory policies and the notion of Asian
Americans as foreigners is still strongly felt today, impeding the Asian American political
participation.

Four Quartets And The Four Quartets
Einstein s theory of Relativity hinges on two axioms: the laws of physics are the same for all frames of
reference, and the speed of light in a vacuum is constant. In his famous train thought experiment,
Einstein proved that the order of events depends on the location of the observer. In essence, he proved
time dilation: or the phenomena that time bends and contracts. Eventually, he realized time dilation is
a necessary consequence of keeping the speed of light in a vacuum constant everywhere in the
universe, leading him to eventually conclude that space and time are not separate, distinct entities, but
one linked dimension: spacetime. This single dimension, because it stretches and contracts, allows for
unusual interactions between space ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He chases this unformed notion, until at last in The Dry Salvages, he releases his own David from the
marble block of uncertainty. The hint half guessed, the gift half understood, is/ Incarnation. /Here the
impossible union/of spheres of existence is actual,/ Here past and future/ Are conquered, and
reconciled, . The Incarnation provides the only instance wherein time and eternity collide, and co
exist. The Incarnation allows time past, time present, and time yet to come a simultaneous existence.
However, the implications of simultaneity drastically change reality, both for Einstein and for Eliot.
Einstein s theory allowed for strange realizations, such as light is both a particle and a wave at the
same time and in the same way, which seems to break the foundational law of non contradiction. Eliot
s realization that the Incarnation redeems all time by allowing it all to exist together, seems to face the
same problem. However, this seemingly self referential absurdity may spring from nothing more than
the frame of reference from within which Eliot and Einstein work. Just as time and eternity are
separate and distant entities to the normal observer, the observer on the event horizon sees them as the
same thing simultaneously. Perhaps, when viewed from the frame of reference of the Incarnation,
these absurdities resolve into clarity, for here the impossible union of spheres of existence is

  • 2. Essay On Corporal Punishment In Schools Corporal Punishment in Schools Corporal punishment is the deliberate infliction of pain as retribution for an offence, or for the purpose of disciplining or reforming a wrongdoer, or to deter attitudes or behaviour deemed unacceptable (Miller, Vandome, amp; McBrewster, 2009). Corporal punishment can be divided into three categories, these include: judicial, domestic and school. For the purpose of this essay we will be focusing on school corporal punishment, the advantages and guidelines to follow when using corporal punishment and the disadvantages and effects on children when child abuse is used in the name of corporal punishment. According to Vockell (1991), Corporal punishment is the infliction of physical pain, contingent upon the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Punishment must be administered soon after the offence. Children tend to forget the reason why they are being punished after a long period of time has passed, making them believe that they should not be punished. It is also best to specify the behavior being punished. Educators must administer corporal punishment dispassionately. Teachers tend to spank or hit a child more aggressively because they might not like the child as a person. Not to mention, teachers should be bother when they are administering corporal punishment to any child. Administer corporal punishment in front of appropriate witnesses, these witnesses should be regarded as reliable and truthful in case of litigation. And, corporal punishment should be carried out with appropriate confidentiality, because, what good would it do to humiliate the child. And finally, make sure you follow all the rules and regulations prescribed by the school system, this is to assure you have the support and an effective defense, should a legal challenge arise. But with every advantage there is an equal disadvantage. Most people believe that corporal punishment in schools is not morally acceptance. This is where the disadvantages occur. According to Vockell (1991), punishment is not likely to be logically related to the misbehavior (p. 279). This just means that the students who are punished for misbehavior not worthy of punishment are victims of artificial punishment. Artificial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pediatrician Discrimination And Discrimination Pediatricians initiating their job may be unaware of the racism by the hospital staff, majorly white, unconsciously. Patients who are minorities may experience a sense of fear of going to the hospital to be unconsciously discriminated against and not being able to connect with someone of their race or culture. Without this connection, patients feel timid when they are not able to communicate with someone who is not of their race, gender or culture causing a border between the patient and the pediatrician. Therefore, as Dossey (2015) says If Black doctors are marginalized, it is a cinch their patients feel marginalized as well (para. 8). Meaning that not only minority pediatricians are discriminated, but the patients as well. To forget these patients, have health care issues because their race, culture, or socioeconomic status leads to a major healthcare disadvantage. Indeed, empathy should accompany the pediatrician when conversing the patient s problem to create a better experience for both. Thoughts, feelings, and behavior related to race and ethnicity play a critical role in health care disparities (Penner, 2013, para. 1). This quote implies that it is not only the physical aspects that might be judged but also the emotional state as well. In fact, many other factors influence the unconscious racism to minorities patients and pediatricians such as socioeconomic status, [and] language proficiency [...etc.] (Penner, 2013, pg. 4). • 4. Democratic Party Vs. Democratic Parties Since the beginning the United States the its form of government has been considered unique. While it is different from many other forms of government it gives each U.S. citizen the ability to speak their mind on who they believe their country should be governed by and what laws they should be governed under. In making these decisions citizens generally take a side, Republican or Democrat. Republican and Democratic parties are two of the nations oldest political parties however, when they originated the Republican party was the Democratic party that we have today and the Democratic party was the Conservative party we have today. To put that in simpler terms, the Democratic party were the Confederates in the civil war while the Republican party was the Union. Democrats of that time favored a limited government, supported the idea of manifest destiny, and fought for the continuation of slavery whereas the Republican party of that time opposed slavery, favored government policies such as nation currency, high tariffs, or increased funding on the university system. The switch to the parties we know today is said to have happened gradually between 1872. While the party system today is flipped from the original Democratic and Republican parties it still flows from historic roots but the reasoning s and demographics behind who identifies as Liberal and who identifies as Conservative has advanced. The basis of the government was set by three men, John Locke, Thomas Hobbs, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities Between Julius And Ethel Rosenberg Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, Cold War Spies During the late 1940 s and the early 1950 s, America began to find themselves in the middle of fear as the Cold War began to approach. Tensions began to grow between the two nations of the United States and Soviet Union. These tensions lasted for roughly seven years, which lead to international episodes. Leader of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin and leader of the United States Joseph Stalin had led their dictatorship into disaster. Both the United States and Soviet Union had fought as allies against Nazi, Germany. This war had become capitalism between communism both countries had different belief principles. These differing views lead to a war that would change America. Resulting in the first nuclear attacks, that were successful by the Soviets in 1949, American began to fear that the people around them were Soviet spies, passing on nuclear technology from the Unites States to Russia. Speech Conversion Using Neural Networks CS 549 TOPICS IN ARITIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TEXT TO SPEECH CONVERSION USING NEURAL NETWORKS Project Report Firstly, Artificial Intelligence was used in 1956, at the Dartmouth conference and from then it is expanded because of various proposed theories and many new principles developed by its researchers. It is an area of computer science that focusses on creating machines that can engage on behaviors of humans, solve the computational models for complex problems. Here Neural Networks are a computational approach to AI, which is based on the great collection of Neural Units, which models a Human brain as connected large number of neurons. These neurons are connected to each other to process the information as of the human brain. Artificial neural network (ANN) learn by testing and training data. The Artificial Intelligence in brief can be defined as the study and design of intelligent agents. Text to Speech Conversion using Neural networks: In this project, we are developing Natural Language Processing (NLP), which is related to processing human language by computer. The base paper for the implementation of our project is Natural Language processing techniques in Text To Speech synthesis and Automatic Speech Recognition Here the base paper we referred depicts usage of natural language processing techniques which includes the production of audio from the input text i.e., text to speech synthesis and the inverse process i.e., automatic speech recognition. • 8. Philosophy for Children Essay I. The concept of the Community of Inquiry Central to the heart of P4C lies the notion of a community of inquiry. Originally a term from Pierce to reference interaction among scientists, the concept of COI dominates the discussion of educational revisionism as presented by commentators on the P4C movement. The key description marking a COI is: a group (a social setting) of individuals who use dialogue (interaction among participants) to search out the problematic borders of a puzzling concept (inquiry as philosophical.) Implicit in the ideal workings of this group are two key concepts: a demonstration of thinking that is caring (each member is supported and allowed to be an integral member of the community), creative (new ideas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two of these controversial issues are: the ontological nature of the individual vs. that of the community the criteria of a good reason (the question of truth) or discovery vs. construction It is important to recognize the presence of these issues within the P4C method and to explore how these issues color our vision of that method. We will note certain tensions among writers about P4C in terms of which metaphysical vision best embraces the ideals behind the COI. In the sections below I will suggest also a series of questions that are provoked by discussions of the COI which will hopefully lead to further reflection and dialogue with the P4C community itself. II. Individual vs. Community In his article The Five Communities (1) David Kennedy offers us a rich differentiation of a COI into communities of gesture, language, mind, love, and interest. (2) The concepts of gesture and language highlight the nuances of human communication that embrace physical stance, the unspoken presentation of the body itself as response and the powerful nature of spoken language as enriched by stress, pitch, contour and juncture (3) in addition to one s personal vocabulary and idiosyncratic use of words. By his phrase, community of mind Kennedy attempts to capture a phenomenological sense of mind as active agent immersed in a spatio temporal affective locus which is ever changing. He draws a portrait of the situatedness of thought which nevertheless struggles to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Position Of Chief Executive The position of Chief Executive in a company is one of the most desirable positions any given company has to offer. Chief Executives in a company are at the top of the company ladder. They receive excellent pay, and great benefits. In the social realm, CEO s are generally considered to be socially superior, and their lives are coveted by members of the middle class. The opportunity to become a Chief Executive is rare, and the process of achieving this position is very difficult. One must be employed with an enterprise and perform exceptionally in order to climb the company ladder and work their way towards this coveted and desirable position. While business degrees are not always a requirement for a CEO, they certainly do play a huge role in determining your eligibility to be in this position. Companies will desire business related degrees in their applicants, and the first step to becoming a CEO is becoming a lower wage worker at the company you wish to move up in. There are some degrees that will be especially useful for the long term goal of obtaining the position of CEO in a company, but before covering requirements and strategies, let s look at a basic job description of the Chief Executive position. A Chief Executive has one responsibility; to do everything necessary to ensure the success of a company. There is no explicit checklist of things a CEO is expected to do, they must attend to whatever comes up and address issues in order that everything can work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Causes And Effects Of Autism When someone mentions electric shock therapy what comes to your mind? Is there a connection somewhere in your family tree to Fragile X ? Are there toxins in the air that are more dangerous than we think? Can watching too much television while you are pregnant actually be harmful to your unborn baby? What could all of these questions possibly have in common? The answer is Autism. Imagine the overwhelming joy of holding your healthy newborn child and counting ten perfect fingers and toes. It is hard to believe, when you look at his big blue eyes and dimples, that he could ever be anything less than perfect. But two years later, you hear the words your child has autism , and can t help wondering if you are responsible in some way. Thesis Statement There is growing evidence that the rapid rise in reported cases of autism is caused, and influenced equally, by genetic and environmental factors. Environmental factors include a broad range of influences as varied as parental age, birth complications and maternal nutrition at conception, vaccines and exposure to pollution during early brain development. Most genetic factors are considered in combination with environmental ones. It is believed that over time genetic changes brought on by the environment are passed on to future generations predisposing them to disorders as autism. A number of reasons create this attraction including the simplicity of migration, ease of becoming an entrepreneur, the current political situation, and access to quality health care. According to 2010 World Bank statistics only 521,500 Venezuelans lived abroad while 1,007,400 people immigrated to the country. Venezuela is clearly a haven for immigrants. • 12. What I Thought Represented A Good Teacher In my first field experience, I acquired many skills and knowledge in what I thought represented a good teacher. In my total time spent in my observation hours I saw, two schools, eight different teachers, and four different grade levels. The grades I viewed the most were first and second, particularly because these are the grades I wish to teach in. For the majority of the time I spent with all the grade levels, I found most of the teachers inspiring in some aspects of their lesson cycle, teaching style and of course the creative décor around their rooms. I found that the most inspiring or beneficial teachers were in Hondo, Texas, at Meyer elementary because of their unique structure and compassionate curriculum for all of the students in which I want to pass on to my students in my teaching future. At Meyer Elementary I first started with Mrs. Jessica Martinez s class, overall I found her class to be well structured, organized and successful at most. But, She did not have her class quite under control, and had difficulty retrieving their attention span, which I found odd with the multiple teacher assistants she had, however I found that her lessons where quite intriguing to the students knowledge. One lesson I found extremely stimulating was her word of the day, in which the students compared and contrasted that specific vocabulary word throughout the activities in their school day. Explain the difference between a logical record and a physical record. The canned answer is a logical record is a set of field values that describes a single person, place, thing, or event. Logical records as seen by an application is a group of related fields regardless of how or where the data is stored physically. For example, across multiple hard drives or multiple tables, databases etc. A physical record is the smallest data unit that can be handled by the operating system and has to do with the physical bytes that exist on a hard drive or other storage location. A physical record can contain many logical records. 10. How would a specific date, such as May 1, 2004, be represented as an absolute date? According to the book, on page 288, Microsoft uses Jan 1, 1900 as it s base date. If you have excel you can use a spreadsheet to calculate the date or just use the example provided. • 17. Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis Younger Dryas Climate Event Occurring about 12,800 years ago, The Younger Dryas Climate Event was an abrupt climate change that dropped the Earth temperature by about 10 degrees, bringing dry winds ( Abrupt Climate Change , 2003). This event followed a warming trend that had resulted in glacier melting. As the melting water filtered down the Mississippi and into the Gulf of Mexico, its route suddenly diverted, carrying the water east into the Atlantic Ocean. This change in the water path disrupted both the salinity and the flow in the ocean system, thus changing the climate of the Northern region. Unfortunately, 30 species of animals became extinct as a result of the changes, and nearly 80 percent of North America s large animals disappeared (video). Although no debate exists regarding whether this event occurred, several theories have been created explaining the reason why it occurred. One such theory is the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis, also known as the Clovis Comet Hypothesis, which proposes that a comet or asteroid hit North America, killing off many animals and human instantly, and non adapting species were also eradicated due to starvation (video). One critique of this hypothesis is that no crater has been found on Earth s surface; however, it is likely that the comet hit the glacier, which ultimately melted and left no physical sign. Another hypothesis depends on the idea of a thermohaline circulation shutdown due to the changes in ocean circulation ( Abrupt Climate Change , 2003). A problem with this hypothesis, however, is that another glacier melting event occurred following the Younger Dryas, and it did not create a massive climate change. • 19. How The Roman Catholic Church s Stance On Peaceful... Conversion in Medieval Iberia can invoke ambivalent feelings. Christians originally wanted to convert Jews and Muslims through kind words and religious teachings from the Bible. This idea, nevertheless, evolved over the centuries and Christians began converting non believers through violence and compulsion. Also, even after individuals were converted, Christians did not fully trust their motivations, and believed they would remiss into their old religions. While Marian miracles did help alleviate these tensions, a number of vicious acts were committed against Jews and Muslims during this time period. In this essay, I am going to examine the idea of conversion from the Christian perspective, and how Christians were able to tempt Jews and Muslims to convert. I am also going to compare the contradictory nature of converting through peaceful and violent means. This comparison will showcase how the Roman Catholic Church s stance on peaceful conversion was overcome by local Christian communities. Conversion is the act of changing one s religion to another religion. During the twelfth to fifteenth century in Medieval Iberia, a number of Jews and Muslims converted to Christianity. To Christians, conversions represented the elimination of dangerous enemies and the ongoing triumph of the new Israel. Christians viewed themselves as the chosen people, as they believed that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save them, and formed a new covenant, while the Jews spurned him and ... The mortality rate for anorexia is the highest of all mental disorders yet the genetic factors relating them were not a huge concern to look into. Analysis of Machiavelli´s The Prince The great philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli, having such beliefs, puts to rest man s downfall and presents that way to preservation in his book The Prince, which produces an effective guide for political action based off of his own philosophical beliefs and history s past. The Prince rest on the principle that, above all, the foundation for a ruler s success is within verita effettuale or, the effectiveness of a prince s rule. Machiavelli urges rulers to focus on acting in ways that will result in the best political dominance rather than to be concerned with what others think of his actions. Furthermore, he mandates that for a prince to uphold his objective as the maintainer of the state, he must not be bound to a set code of morality. With that, Machiavelli takes out what was previously said on human morals and teaches that rulers do not, in fact, need to possess personal moral character in order to be effective political leaders. Indeed, a prince must learn to pay attention to moral qualities in such a manner as to be able to use them to gain the necessary power to control the state. He claims, a prince should not deviate from what is good, if that is possible, but he should know how to do evil, if that is necessary (Machiavelli). Asian Americans have been disenfranchised by discriminatory laws that denied citizenship to Asian immigrants and rendered them ineligible to vote. It was not until 1943 that Chinese Americans were first permitted to become citizens; for Asian Indians, it was 1946. For Japanese Americans and other Asian Americans, that right did not come until 1952. The legacy of these discriminatory policies and the notion of Asian Americans as foreigners is still strongly felt today, impeding the Asian American political participation. • 34. Four Quartets And The Four Quartets Einstein s theory of Relativity hinges on two axioms: the laws of physics are the same for all frames of reference, and the speed of light in a vacuum is constant. In his famous train thought experiment, Einstein proved that the order of events depends on the location of the observer. In essence, he proved time dilation: or the phenomena that time bends and contracts. Eventually, he realized time dilation is a necessary consequence of keeping the speed of light in a vacuum constant everywhere in the universe, leading him to eventually conclude that space and time are not separate, distinct entities, but one linked dimension: spacetime. This single dimension, because it stretches and contracts, allows for unusual interactions between space ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He chases this unformed notion, until at last in The Dry Salvages, he releases his own David from the marble block of uncertainty. The hint half guessed, the gift half understood, is/ Incarnation. /Here the impossible union/of spheres of existence is actual,/ Here past and future/ Are conquered, and reconciled, . The Incarnation provides the only instance wherein time and eternity collide, and co exist. The Incarnation allows time past, time present, and time yet to come a simultaneous existence. However, the implications of simultaneity drastically change reality, both for Einstein and for Eliot. Einstein s theory allowed for strange realizations, such as light is both a particle and a wave at the same time and in the same way, which seems to break the foundational law of non contradiction. Eliot s realization that the Incarnation redeems all time by allowing it all to exist together, seems to face the same problem. However, this seemingly self referential absurdity may spring from nothing more than the frame of reference from within which Eliot and Einstein work. Just as time and eternity are separate and distant entities to the normal observer, the observer on the event horizon sees them as the same thing simultaneously. Perhaps, when viewed from the frame of reference of the Incarnation, these absurdities resolve into clarity, for here the impossible union of spheres of existence is ...
