Comparison of Li Po and Tu Fu s Poetry Essays
Comparison of Li Po and Tu Fu s Poetry During the Tang Dynasty, Li Po and Tu Fu have reigned the
literary world with their poetry. Their writing techniques and themes in their poetry allow them to
stand out amongst other poets at the time. With the unique aspects and images these poets write
about, they distinguish the similarities between themselves and contain different intensities in their
poetry. While Li Po has a more relaxed tone to his poetry, Tu Fu deals with the serious aspects of
life such as war, poverty, and suffering. Li Po s writingstyle is conventional and contains no new
innovations. Much of his poetry contains older styles such as lu shih, chueh chu, and especially the

Alcohol became another common theme of Li Po s poetry. Scholar Tan ch iu! Bring the wine
and no delay! For you I ll sing a song be pleased to bend your ears and hear; bells and drums,

This excerpt from the poem Bring the Wine , is only one of the many hundreds of poems that
portrays Li Po s love of wine and its affects. I take my wine jug out among the flowers to drink
alone, without friends. I raise my cup to entice the moon. That, and my shadow, makes us three , is
an excerpt from his Drinking Alone poem. It displays his love of wine and the enjoyment of the
beauty of the moon.
Tu Fu s poetry illustrates more serious topics and contains more serious themes. It contains more
creation, tu tsao, and his writing styles have a modern twist to them. He also brought the chin t i
form to popularity, making it a poetic statement. One characteristic of Tu Fu poems is that he
incorporates and parallels two totally different topics together. For example, in his poem River
Stop Tu Fu parallels the river and clouds to his heart and his mind. Rivers flow my heart doesn t
try to keep up; clouds remain slow as my imagination. Tu Fu also condenses and distorts his poetry,
which leaves his poetry ambiguous and open to suggestion. However, this may be

Egoism Vs Egoism
What motivates individuals to do the things they do well, it is based fundamentally on their
morality. Our moralities are the actions and beliefs we consider to be right or wrong. Our
everydaydecisionsare determined by these morals. Moralityrefers to a code of conduct that applies
to all who can understand it and can govern their behavior by it(Gert). An individuals morality is
shaped by the way they view his or her own interests and weigh it in comparison to the interests of
others. Those that value their own interests over others are known as egoist. Egoismis an ethical
theory that treats self interest as the foundation of morality. However, egoism is divided into
two,one known as ethical egoismand the other is psychological egoism. The two revolve around the
idea of self interest. These types of egoist value their own interests over others. However, many of
people have egotistic interior motives as helping others in the interest of our own.Humankind has
the natural tendencies to grow, develop, and be the best they can be is in respect to their interests.
After an individual discovers his or her own interests they learn what it takes to succeed and satisfy
their interests. Maslow defines human tendencyisto strive for growth, autonomy, identity and the
excellence of self actualization(Abraham Maslow). Individuals instinctively strive to become better
based on their interests. Therefore, as individuals, we naturally wish to excel or be exceptional, to

Leo Howard
When I was a child, I would watch Disney Channel a lot. All the shows were okay, but one
always stood out to me. It was a show called Kickin It . I started watching this show but, then I
saw him. He played a character named Jack and, he was the handsomest man I have ever seen.
His name was Leo Howard. I was crazy obsessed with him. After I first found out about the show
I watched it non stop. Every episode that I can, but, first I should explain the show. It was a show
about karate. It usually took place in the Dojo that the Sensei, Rudy, owned. The other main
characters Kim, Milton, Jerry, and Eddie. Leo s character, Jack, later then joins the Dojo. What

recorded in Miami. When I was older I wanted to move to Miami and either go on the show or
find Leo. I wanted nothing more as a child to meet Leo. I actually thought I was going to meet

Lord Of The Flies Comparison
Research Question
How do the similarities and differences between R.M. Ballantyne s The Coral Island and William
Golding s Lord of the Flies emphasize their differing opinions on the nature of evil?
Introduction
When I first read Lord of the Flies, in seventh grade, I terrified my mother when I came home
from school talking about the potential evil in all men s souls. Later that year, someone asked
me what my favorite book was and, without hesitation, I responded Lord of the Flies. The
shocked look on her face revealed that this was not the response she was expecting. Being only
eleven, I did not understand the full implications of what I was saying about evil, what my favorite
book might say about me, and why hearing those words from a child ... Show more content on

Using fear, as rumor of a monster s presence on the island becomes more and more real to the
boys, and promises of meat, Jack successfully manipulates a majority of the group to leave
Ralph. After Piggy s death, the rest of the littluns, that had been with Ralph, join Jack s group,
less out of fear of a beast and more out of fear of Jack. This isolation, the contempt Jack feels
towards Ralph, and the unnerving power that Jack holds over the rest of the boys culminates in the
final hunt, where Jack orders the boys to track down and kill Ralph. Such a moment does not occur
in The Coral Island. Throughout Ballantyne s novel, the boys remain friends and trusted
companions. When Ballantyne s Ralph is kidnapped by pirates, the boys mourn him, thinking
he has died. Ralph and Peterkin never question Jack s judgements or plans. Peterkin is always
included in conversations, despite his young age, and respected. When Ralph contemplates how
they managed to be so agreeable he comes to a conclusion: There was, indeed, no discord
whatever in the symphony we played together on that sweet Coral Island; and I am now
persuaded that this was owing to our having been all tuned to the same key namely, that of love!
Yes, we loved one another with much fervency while we lived on that island; and, for a matter of
that, we love each other still (Ballantyne 109). Fittingly, the final image of Ballantyne s boys is
of them travelling together towards England, their home. Jack and Ralph s relationship, from
Lord of the Flies, is more complex: They walked along, two continents of experience and feeling,
unable to communicate. [...] They looked at each other, baffled, in love and hate (Golding 58 59).
Jack and Ralph are too similar to get along, yet understand each other well enough to stay together
for a time. The final image of Golding s boys is of them breaking

AC has not implemented a whistle blowing system or compliance hotline, in fact, an ethics or audit
committee does not exist. In general, the company does not have any fraud prevention program,
code of ethics, or a committee to oversee the management of the company.
Page Nolan took couple of steps to communicate the contradictions in the process; however, she
was unsure of her professional and ethical responsibilities after not receiving the appropriate
response. The following AICPA Rules of the Code of Professional Conduct apply to her ethical
dilemma:
Rule 102: Integrity and Objectivity
Rule 202: Compliance with Standards
Rule 203: Accounting Principles
Rule 301: Confidential Client Information
Ms. Nolan must comply with rules in order to pursue or resolve the questionable tactics utilized by
Anonymous Company.

Analysis Of Flamingo By Jennifer Price
In Jennifer Price s The Plastic Flamingo she illustrates the cultural impact the pink flamingo had on
the United States. Price conforms her idea of the United State s culture by providing important
historical details to better portray and reveal the true passions of America during the rapid rise of
the plastic flamingo. Price s overall view towards the United Stateswould be that Americans are
self conceited and obsessed with wealth. In the first passage Price describes the growing
population of the flamingo, throughout the United states, starting in Miami. Price uses historical
context to emphasize the central idea that flamingos had a rapid growth in a short period of time.
She uses the quote, In the 1910s and 1920s, Miami beach s first grand hotel, The Flamingo, had
made the bird synonymous with wealth and pizzazz. to show how the growing fad would start. The
quote, Since the 1930s , vacationing Americans had been flocking to Floridaand returning home
with flamingo souvenirs. illustrates that after the hotel had been built, Americans instantly caught
on to flamingos, most likely because it symbolized wealth. The historical context portrays that
Americans are obsessed with wealth and strive to climb higher on the social ranking ladder. This
ultimately reveals Price s view towards the United States as materialistic and wealth hungry.
In the second passage Price continues the timeline of the flamingo popularity. Price starts off the
paragraph by introducing irony to

Dog Whistling Is A Term Used By Politicians
Dog Whistle Politics is a term used by politicians to persuade the people by gaining their votes
into a political position of power. Dog Whistling has been used for years by politicians to
achieve what they want while campaigning for public offices. Politicians have been
maneuvering and scheming for years during elections for the peoples vote. They have always
put on a show for the people just to receive their vote. They set their sights on an office of public
position and they begin a long and hard working race to gain votes. Dog whistling is just a
different way for them to use codes or demonstrate to certain people to what they are really
trying to say. Politicians portray a good and upright demeanor. It s part of their job. During their
campaign for a specific position, they make promises to the people, they put time into well
thought out and written speeches, they research every city and the population during the
campaign tour and it is all to persuade the vast majority of people for their vote. It deals with
race as well. Dog Whistling and racism seem to go hand in hand because it s dealing with race.
Racism has been in politics for years. Dog Whistling is just a word used to speak to a certain
group of people in code. Racism is still imbedded in us as people because we cannot treat each
other equal. Some politicians use Dog Whistling as a way to speak to the mass of racism that is
still current in today s society. The author in this book uses Dog Whistle Politics

Submarines During The Civil War
A submarine is defined as something that functions or operates underwater; specifically: a naval
vessel designed to operate underwater. This definition holds true today but started at the
beginning of the Civil War when submarines originally became a popular choice of weaponry. In
general, submarine crews were composed of a commander, who steered the boat, and six or more
men who used hand cranks to move the boat. Many inventors intended on creating electric motors
to move the boat, but they were unable to produce enough torque. Submarines were primarily used
in combat because they could travel invisibly. Innovations like submarines did not just change the
way people fought wars they also changed the way people lived.

The Tolkien s The Hobbit
As the story of The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien develops, readers of this book can see that one of
the main characters experience a metamorphosis. From the beginning of the story throughout the
end, Bilbo goes through a change, but for the better. Tolkien s main character Bilbo in The Hobbit
shows the theme of becoming a hero by gaining courage and confidence as the story progresses.
During the beginning of The Hobbit Bilbo likes to stay to himself in his hobbit hole. We see that he
is also shy when the author say Since they have become rare and shy of the Big People (Tolkien
1). Here readers can see that the author is describing the hobbits, including Bilbo himself as shy
around people and creatures that are not like himself. The author starts off the story by telling
the readers that Bilbo was shy to show that he did not have much confidence, and due to his lack
of confidence he had a lack of experience. Continuing in the beginning, Bilbo declines the
invitation from Gandalf to go on an adventure. We don t want any adventures here, thank you!
You might try over The Hill or across The Water (Tolkien 3). He declines this invitation, and
quickly ends the conversation here because at this point in the story he is not brave enough for an
adventure. During another occasion Bilbo says, Sorry! I don t want any adventures, thank you.
Not today. Good morning! But please come to tea any time you like! Why not tomorrow? Come
tomorrow! Good bye! (Tolkien 5). Here he

In morning of December 26, 1996 around 5:00 AM Patsy Ramsey woke up in her Boulder

addressed to her husband saying that their daughter six year old JonBenet Ramsey had been

Patsy and John reacted as quickly as possible then she and John had called the police to file
JonBenet missing at 5:25 AM and telling the operator the ransom be aware s risk that JonBenet
could be killed if the police have been notified. In keeping with the ransom observe and
carefulness the abductors could be calling John Ramsey to offer him advice to give the ransom
cash which he and Patsy had been already busy on gathering when the police arrived to their

A Study On Private Equity Investments
The last few decades have witnessed massive evolution of private equity (PE) investing from the
small niche it used to be to the significant industry it is today. Currently, PE plays an essential role
in the economy; it enhances innovation and growth in expanding firms or promising start ups, as
well as by nurturing the restructuring of companies that are already mature (e.g., Davila et al.,
2003; Cressy et al., 2007). Private equityinvesting has been acknowledged as a new and proficient
form of organisation that generates economic efficiencies through a superior governance

Based on Talmor Vasvari (2012), in spite of the comparatively small number of vehicles, the
improvement is striking since some of the largest and most prominent private equity vehicles, such
as KRR and Blackstone, have preferred to go public. From an academic angle, the surfacing of
listed private equity vehicles drastically increases the opportunities for scrutinizing an industry that
is famous for being notoriously private.
Similar to PEs in developed markets, sub Saharan Africa experienced a build up of activity that
culminated to the financial crisis. Based on EMPEA (2011), a total of USD 6 billion dedicated
for sub Saharan African funds was raised between 2006 and 2008 by Private equity capital. In
spite of the drastic increases compared with previous years (only USD 159 billion was raised by
sub Saharan African funds between 2000 and 2005), the level of PE in the area is reticent in
global terms. During the same period Sub Saharan Africa accounted for less than four percent of
the USD 159 billion raised for all emerging markets between 2006 and 2008, and less than a fifty
percent of the USD 1.4 trillion raised worldwide by PE funds in the same period. Mergermarket

Capability Approach and Human Development Amartya Sen
Amartya Sen is an Indian scholar and Nobel Prize laureate in economics. He grew up and
witnessed the great famine in India, when 2 3 million people died. His life experiences as a child
and teenager inspired his academic career. He developed the so called capability approach, to offer

Sen mentions in several of his essays different fields, which include a more diverse selection of
factors than the poverty evaluation. He states:
I have tried to explore the possibility of using the capability perspective for analysing other social
issues, such as well being and poverty (Sen, 1982a, 1983c, 1985b), liberty and freedom (Sen,
1983a, 1988a, 1992), living standards and development (Sen, 1983b, 1984, 1987b, 1988b), gender
bias and sexual divisions (Kynch and Sen, 1983; Sen, 1985c, 1990b), and justice and social ethics
(Sen, 1982b, 1985a, 1990a). (Sen 1993)
One of the most significant impacts, the capability approach had, was on the creation of the human
development index and the Millenium Development Goals of United Nations.
Amartya Sen defined some basic capabilities, which can be found in the Human Development
Index again. These basic capabilities give freedom to basic things and are significant for the
measurement of a poverty or deprivation threshold. (Robeyns 2000) But he decided not to provide
a finite list of basic capabilities, as a determination of those requires an individual assessment of the
respective evaluation. (Robeyns 2000) p.

Social Problems Associated With Racial Discrimination
Introduction:
I: People from different backgrounds around the world are being targeted and discriminated by
individuals of other races solely because they are different racially and culturally.
Body Paragraphs:
II: Basic Information on the Issue
A: According to Encyclopedia Britannica, race is determined by physical and personality traits,
intellect, morality, and culture ( Racism ). Racial discrimination is discriminating someone based on
their race or religion ( Racism/Color Discrimination ) or prejudice against an individual or group of
people of a different race because of the belief that one s own race is superior ( Racism ).

problems include alcohol or drug use/abuse and emotional withdrawal. Some emotional problems
include depression, feeling isolated, feelings of guilt and blaming oneself. Body aches,
headaches, and stress problems are some physical problems ( Impacts and Consequences ). Racial
discrimination can also cause people to quit jobs or school, lose concentration, and have a
negative impact on grades and important records. Finally, people can also suffer financially, such
as decreases in academic/job opportunities, loss of jobs, incomes, and/or benefits ( Impacts and
Consequences ). III: Impact of the Issue on the World

SГёren Kierkegaard
People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they
seldom use. Lets go back to when men valued thought, for they valued its effect on the world,
lets go back and take a look at the father of Christian Existentialism, SГёren Kierkegaard. SГёren
Kierkegaard was born to a father who inflicted strict and rigorous religious teaching upon his
children. His father felt this was necessary because of his sinful habit that resulted in an affair
with his 1st wife s maid. Kierkegaard, after a broken engagement with his love, was handed over
to a life of severe melancholy. Yet as a result of both his personal pain and brilliant mind, a literary
life few could surpass, and wisdom of thought (does that make sense) ensued.... Show more content

His answer was summarized in three words, Fear and Trembling. This is something that he spent
an immense amount of time answering, and his answers can be condensed into the example that
he gave from the Old Testament in the Bible. He gives Christians an example in which to follow,
in the patriarch Abraham. The example that Abraham gives, and we are to follow, is found in
how Abraham responds to the command to kill his son. For man, especially a father, this
command is unfathomable, yet because God wanted to test Abraham (give better reasoning), he
told him to sacrifice his son. Kierkegaard looks at Genesis 22:2, it says, He said, Take your son,
your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt
offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you. He notes the unbearable precision in
the command, when God says take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love (emphasis
added) Kierkegaard also takes a close look at the beginning of the next verse, it says, So Abraham
rose early in the morning. He notes that some men take this excerpt to men that Abraham was rising
early to faithfully carry out his duty. And while that has some truth to it, it is not complete,
Kierkegaard emphasizes the fact that he rose early, not because he got a great night of sleep, rather
that he wrestled with this command in

The Role Of Economic Inequality In The United States
What is inequality? It is the difference or variation in size, amount, rank, quality, social position or
the fact that one group is more privileged than the other, or it can be based on the unequal
opportunity of certain groups on the society. Based on the book social problems by John J.
Macionis, he said that there is an unequal distribution of economic resources, which means that one
part of the population has more they suppose to have that the other part does not have enough to
support itself. Since 1970s, economic inequalityhas increased in the United States. In particular, the
rich have gotten a lot richer. Economic inequality affects the society and the youth in several ways.
Income inequality can lead to the downfall of the country s economy, or it can make it difficult for

Richer areas have better schools, smaller classes, and have a high level of education. Teachers
make more money, so the rich areas have better teachers. Economic inequality is one of the causes
of those disparities. Poor students living in poor areas are behind in verbal memory, vocabulary,
math and reading. Some children came in the United States without knowing how to speak English.
Those immigrant students need a tutor when they attend school. Rich kids parents can pay tutor to
help their kids, but poor kids parents cannot. In public schools, students are getting low education,
which does not allow other student to extend their capacity. Being born into a social class,
especially the lower class can affect youths lives chances, including what kind of education they
can get, the work they can have or even how long they will live. This can be classified as an
impact of economic inequality. Back in fifty years ago, economic inequality has caused the same
problem that is happening today. Since the 1979, the economic inequality has increased, and the

A Proposal to Ban Smoking in Public Areas Essay
A Proposal to Ban Smoking in Public Areas
Every year, there are over 400,000 smoking related deaths in the United States. A large percentage
of these are due to lung cancer, whose leading cause is smoking. However, not all deaths are
smokers themselves. Anyone in the vicinity can fall victim to second hand smoke. These people,
through no action of their own, can have their lives threatened.
This problem, which plagues all Americans, should have action taken on a local scale to help
protect the health of the public. The Ames City Council is in the process of debating a city
ordanince which whould ban smoking in all public places, with the exception of those designated
as smokng areas . A public place shall be defined by Subsection... Show more content on

Keep in mind, these people don?t smoke themselves, but they are still put at risk by the actions
of others. The Saskatchewan Instite?s webpage goes on to state that half of all children exposed
to second hand smoke are exposed at home. While this is an important fact, its importance lies in
opposite, half are exposed in places other than at home. In America 25,000 people are killed every
year in car accidents, while 53,000 die from second hand smoke (from Office on Smoking and
Health, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/sgr/sgr_1988/).
Action must be taken to protect these people from a threat over which they have no control.
In addition to statistics, a situation to illustrate the necessity for this proposal can be considered.
Imagine a family, Mom, Dad, and their three children, are going out to eat in a nice restaurant for
Mom?s birthday. When the waitress asks if they?d like smoking or non smoking, they Dad requests
non, because he is concerned about his family?s health. However, the truth about this decision is
that in reality, just being in the restaurant increases the threats to their family.
Those who are opposed to this ban contend that it will hurt economic prosperity of their bars/taverns
/clubs/restaurents, which are the areas that would be most effected by this ordanence. However,
according to a recent study conducted by the Substance Abuse Policy Research Program in New
York, this is not the case. Quite the

Pat Conroy Confessions Of An Ex-Catholic Analysis
The article Confessions of an Ex Catholic by Pat Conroy was about the speaker and how he
describes his experiences about how at first he was a God struck child then he matured to a God

“Your Arkansas Travelerв
Ђќ Is A Short Story Detailing The
Your Arkansas Traveler is a short story detailing the rise and fall of a charismatic but egotistical
radio host named Lonesome Rhodes. It was adapted into a feature length film titled A Face in the
Crowd, which remains quite faithful to the original work but expands greatly upon it by adding or
altering several main events.
Your Arkansas Traveler is told in a first person perspective by a radio hostess named Marcia. While
Marcia is witty and somewhat sarcastic, the deuteragonist of the story and foil to Marcia, Lonesome
Rhodes is very blunt in his speech and quite unstable throughout the story.
Marcia sits in her apartment reading Lonesome s fan mail when she receives a phone call from a
woman claiming to be Lonesome s wife. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the story, there is quite a lot of evidence to support the idea that Lonesome may suffer
from a mental illness such as psychopathy. Psychopaths are often incredibly charming, manipulative
individuals who lack empathy. Earlier in the story, Lonesome attempts to convince Marcia to marry
him by threating to commit suicide if she declines. This tactic is often used by abusive individuals
who are attempting to convince an abused individual to stay in a relationship with them.
Furthermore, Lonesome also has an extremely inflated ego, another major indicator of psychopathy.
Lonesome s wife states that she wants three thousand dollars a month before she will divorce
Lonesome, threatening to make Lonesome and Marcia s lives harder should he decline her offer.
Marcia suggests that Lonesome and his wife sort the divorce out between themselves, and
Lonesome s wife provides further evidence to support that Lonesome suffers from psychopathy by
stating that he begins and ends relationships in quick succession, which is an indicator of
psychopathy. Having had enough of Lonesome s wife, Marcia escorts her out of her apartment.
Your Arkansas Traveler was adapted into a film titled A Face in the Crowd. Though it remains
quite faithful the work it is based on, it expands upon Lonesome s rise to fame. Another noteworthy
change is the perspective, which is changed from first person in the short story to third person in the
film.

Positive And Negative Effects On Colonial America
Julia DeVincenzoBetween the sixteenth and mid eighteenth century, Tokuwaga Japan and the
colonization of America by Spain led the world in silver production. The increase in silver
prompted an extensive variety of consequences. Silver mining became extremely popular
especially during Ming China, where it was used as currency, in which all domestic taxes and
trade fees were to be paid in. Although silver served as a great way to facilitate trade, the increase
in demand led to social disputes and a decline in the economies of many countries. Based on the
documents, the rapid incline in demand for silver proved to have both positive and negative effects
on colonial America, Japan, China, and the world around them. Contrary to most Chinese thoughts,
the production of silver hurt the economy of Ming China. Document 3, for example, states that the
scarcity of the silver coin is what s damaging the harvests. Wang Xijue, a court official, believes
there is too much silver being used for taxes, that there is not enough left to care for the plantations.
He Qiaoyuan, also a Ming court official, describes how much profit the country could make if it
opened up its doors to trade with the Europeans (document 7). However, the unregulated flow of
silver into Ming China ultimately hurt the economy. With similar beliefs to that of Xijue, Ye

using the silver to their advantage to trade in China. By making silver production easier and more

became more involved in trade. Charles D Avenant, an English scholar, shows the importance of
England staying involved in trade with other countries such as Asia and Europe because it will

Fahrenheit 451 By Francois Truffaut
Fahrenheit 451 Analysis François Truffaut s 1966 science fiction film, Fahrenheit 451,
encapsulates a dystopian society that controls its inhabitants. This film is based off of Ray
Bradbury s 1953 novel of the same title.Truffaut took the novel and created a full length film to tell
the story. The use of future is a common characteristic of science fiction movies, yet this particular
film uses future to relay its message, not just as the setting. The technical aspects, effects and
setting work together to create a setting that can hold the message and theme of the film. Fahrenheit

Why Do Finches Survive
In the Galapagos Islands there is an island named, Daphne Major, this island plays as the host of
the Galapagos finches. In 1976 1977 there was an absolute near extinction of these finches. This
is because of the drought of 1976 and 1977 (see figure 1). While the drought made the Finch
population dwindle there was a hidden trait that was helping some survive, and that is beak size.
Why did the larger beaks help those fortunate Finches survive? Because the only plants that
survived where plants like the Tribulus, which produces hard shelled seeds. While there was an
abundance of hard shelled seeds there was a shortage of soft shelled seeds. The finches that had
the larger beaks weighed more, for example, survivors weighed approx. 12.5g to 17.5g with beak
sizes going from 10.5 to 13.6(for evidence see figure 2. This reduced the population because the
Finch s with the smaller beaks couldn t open the harder seeds and had to scavenge for soft seeds
which were very rare. The finches with small beaks, then died from starvation... Show more content

Short beaked finches have less food source because they can t open hard seeds. Because of that
they die off from starvation. Birds with small beaks couldn t open the hard seeds so they had no

eat see figure 3.
In conclusion the Galapagos Finches suffered a mass near extinction, although there was a secret
weapon the survivors had, beak size. The beak size not only helped the survivors survive, but it
helped them eat, see figure 2. The rainfall amount (see figure 1) played a major role in the
extinction of the finches by taking out the food sources. Lastly the Galapagos finches went to the
urge of extinction, but thankfully they were not all taken out by the lessened

Maestro Belonging
Illuminating differences within a world of similarities enables the growth of relationships,
transforming the individual s perception. By defining what we are not and acknowledging the state
of alterity, we construct a definition of who we are, which continually evolves. This notion is
implemented to the novella Maestro by Peter Goldsworthy, and The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas
by John Boyne. Everyone s personal experiences establish their perception of acceptance in their
surroundings. All impressions are unique as we decide who, or what, manipulates our world view.

Paul s perception of belonging is influenced by his connections with others. After moving to
Darwin, he develops friendships and relationships with peers, but the most important connection
is between himself and Keller. When weekly piano lessons began, Paul was too egotistical to
recognise the knowledge and advice Keller is able to provide. Keller did not appreciate Paul s
attitude, the self satisfied go no further . As the lessons continue, Paul matures and their
relationship shifts from teacher and student, to a father and son bond. Keller was impacting
Paul s values and attitudes, in some ways more than Paul s own parents. The bond they share is
vital to the others development. Keller s lessons and philosophies on life encouraged Paul to be
the best pianist possible, but also taught him his limits, We must know when to move on. To

When one considers important events in US history, things like the American Revolution, the

compelling, is the creation of the Women Airforce Service Pilots better known as WASPs,
during World War II. I find it interesting because prior to this time and after this period, woman
had a very limited social status. But for a brief time in the 1940s, women achieved not only job

Comparison Of Shirley Hutchinson And The Lottery
Compare and Contrast Essay
To start, the theme I chose for these two articles that we will be comparing and contrasting is
standing up for what is right may not be the easiest path. This means that when you are thinking
about standing up for someone and no one else starts to, it may be hard for you to start standing up
for someone. In The Lottery Tessie Hutchinson and her family live in a town that do this thing
called the lottery, but you don t win any money during this lottery , you get the prize of death. In
First They Came... Martin Niemoller expresses his point of view on how he did not speak out
for people in danger, when he should have. I chose this theme, because in both The Lottery by
Shirley Jackson and First They Came... by Martin Niemoller there are some people that could
have stood up for each other but no one around them did so they didn t want to. These two
articles are alike, because people die in both of these events . This shows that in First They
Came and The Lottery that people in the village or different groups of people were too afraid of
standing up for Tessie, or the Socialists, Trade Unionists, or the Jews. On one hand, The Lottery by
Shirley Jackson is a fictional short story about well the lottery, but it is not the lottery that you
think of when you hear that word. The Claim of this essay is standing up for what is right may
not be the easiest path. Evidence that supports this claim is Suddenly, Tessie Hutchinson shouted
to Mr. Summers, You didn t give him enough time to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It
wasn t fair! This quote means that Tessie Hutchinson was trying to stand up for her husband Bill
Hutchinson. However, after she does this the crowd goes after her telling her Be a good sport,
Tessie Mrs. Delacroix called, and Mrs. Graves said All of us took the same chance shut up, Tessie
Bill Hutchinson said . This means Tessie tried to stand up for her husband and it clearly was not
easy. I think we ought to start over, Mrs. Hutchinson said, as quietly as she could I tell you it wasn
t fair. You didn t give him enough time to choose. Everybody saw that This quote means that Tessie

China s One Child Policy
China s population currently stands at 1.357 billion people. It is the most populous country in the
world and it is only increasing. The Chinese government has spent more than 40 years trying to
slow their population growth. They have done so through their controversial one child policy.
There is no denying that China s one child policy changed the lives of Chinese citizens when it the
Chinese Communist Party [CCP] in 1979 as a way of controlling population. Under Mao, the
government encouraged families to have as many children as possible, believing that a strong
nation grew out of a large population. By 1976, the population grew from 540 million people in
1949 to 940 million. The rapid increase in population stretched the resources that the CCP could
provide to the people. The government believed that a population control policy was the only way
they prevent the population from experiencing another dramatic increase in size . The CCP hoped
that the policy would alleviate some of the social and economic pressure an increasing population
created, and the policy has worked. According to data collected by the World Bank, China s birth
rate has fallen from 2.63 in 1980 to 1.217 as of 2014, preventing an estimate two hundred to four
hundred million births . For all its intended benefits, the one child policy has also brought many
unintended consequences, both harmful and beneficial; and these consequences have
disproportionately affect girl and women more than boys and men. The

The flow of capital, information, goods and services, and people are among the more readily
measured indicators of such links between large cities. Generally, there has been a net transfer of
funds from the worlds developed economies to countries in the developed world. The decision
makers directing these flows are typically located in world cities, such as London, while these on
whom the decision impacts are often found in the old industrial centres of the developed world,
where the cash is being redirected form. This also has a major effect on those in the developing
world, which is the areas to which capital is being directed. This resulted in factory closures and
high unemployment in the old manufacturing centres of the developed world and factory
openings and job creation in the low cost economies of the developing world. There have been
many attempts to compute the linkages between global cites such as London, one such attempt
focuses on the concept connectivity. This is essentially a measure of the flows of information,
knowledge, and direction between the international office networks of global services, these
being the most basic agents of the formation of the world city network. Based on these criteria
London s strongest links are with North American cities such as New York, Washington DC and
Chicago, as well as some Asian cities such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. The global
hierarchy of cities is essentially a functional hierarchy ranging from 12 cities down to national
regional and local scales, with London generally considered at the centre of the hierarchy, being the
largest contributor to the global

Analyzing The Consumers Generating Inter Harmonic Frequencies
Alexander B. Nassif and Jing Yong [7] have proposed a method to identify the consumers
generating inter harmonic frequencies. The inter harmonics can be measured by means of
Impedance based approach applied at the metering point. The main idea is that, the inter harmonic
impedance of the system is much smaller than that of an inter harmonic generating load. This
method can identify the source of each inter harmonic component without having to rely solely on
the active power measurement and requires only an approximate value for the inter harmonic
impedance measured at the metering point. As per references [2], [6], [7], [9] any device with
nonlinear characteristics which derive their input power from a sinusoidal electrical system may
be responsible for injecting harmonic currents voltages into the electrical system [2, 6, 7, 9 ].
Francisco C. De la rossa [2] have described ,all possible nonlinear loads . Among them few are
Power converters such as Variable frequency drives, DC motor controllers, Cycloconverter, Cranes,
Elevators ,Steel mills, Power supplies, UPS,Battery chargers, Inverters ARC devices such as
Fluorescent lighting, ARC furnaces, Welding machines. According to authors [2] ,[7] Even linear
loads like power transformers can act nonlinear under saturation conditions. This occurs beyond the
so called saturation knee of the magnetizing curve of the transformer. [2],[7]. According to author

The Effects Of HIV Testing In Pregnant Women
HIV can be transmitted from an HIV infected mother to her newborn child. According to the World
Health Organization (WHO), without antiretroviral treatment of the mother, up to 30% of infants
born to HIV positive mother s become infected with HIV themselves. The number increases to
35% 50% if the mother breastfeeds the baby (aidsinfonet, 2014). The risk of HIVtransmission to the
infant from the mother decreases significantly if the mother used antiretrovirals throughout
pregnancy and labor. If the mother does not breastfeed, the HIV transmission risk is also decreased
(aidsinfonet, 2014). Health education relating to pregnant women and infants and HIV is necessary,
but it is insufficient to create behavior change, and consequently improve... Show more content on

A second HIV test in the third trimester is recommended for women who are at a high risk of
contracting HIV. This would include women whose partners are known to be HIV positive, and
for those women who have had sexual intercourse with a new partner during the pregnancy
(Prevention, An Opt Out Approach to HIV Screening, 2017). HIV testing in the third trimester is
also recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention if the pregnant women are
in a geographic region that has a high prevalence of HIV (Prevention, An Opt Out Approach to
HIV Screening, 2017). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Opt out
approach can increase the number of pregnant women tested for HIV, which leads to an increase
of pregnant women who are aware of their HIV status (Prevention, An Opt Out Approach to HIV
Screening, 2017). The Opt out approach also increases the number of HIV infected women who
are offered treatment which would lead to a reduction in vertical HIV transmission (Prevention, An
Opt Out Approach to HIV Screening, 2017). Family planning, as well as preconception
counseling, should be made available women of childbearing age who are living with HIV. It is
essential that childbearing intentions be discussed with women of childbearing age living with
HIV (Aids Info, 2017). For the women who wish to not become pregnant at the time,

Peaceful Resistance Thesis
Peaceful resistance is a very controversial issue in this day in age. Many Americans, if asked,
probably have many varying views and opinions on what peaceful resistance is. For some it could
be marching down the streets with signs, while for others its shouting their rights without causing
any violence. Now to me, peaceful resistance is when one or multiples stand for what they deem
right or wrong without causing any harm to others. To me this serves as a positive because not
only does it allow for people to be heard, but also for others to listen. When a peaceful protesttakes
place often enough it is shown through the internet, social media, television, news, etc. At some
point everyone will hear about it and based on what they see they... Show more content on

Resistance can cause tension and division between people, but peaceful resistance is a pathway for
those to express themselves without violence. In all honesty I think the positives trump the
negatives because in the end they are fighting for what they want and what they should rightfully
have. Isn t that what America has been built off of? The fight for what we want and what we know
is right, while proving that is so. And for those who question What has happened to us? Why is it
necessary, at this moment, in this forum to repeat what should be axiomatic and accepted? (Civil
Disobedience: A Threat o Our Society) clearly have never faced injustice from those around them
or the government. It s necessary because these people have been treated unfairly and should not
let what their ancestors fought for to go to waste. People need to get out of their own heads and
realize that injustice still exists, inequality still exists, the government has too much say in what
happens in our lives and that is something not many see everyday. For example, my town is very
safe and isolated. I ve grown up never having seen violence, social prejudice, or anything unfair,
which for a child is great for protection, but growing up it made me and many around me ignorant
to the world and what really went down around our small bubble. I would watch the news and hear
about gun violence, kidnappings, rallies, and other dangers my mind couldn t fathom. Although I m

The Age Of Europe During The Medieval Era
Between the years 500 A.D. and 1400 A.D., a time referred to as the Middle Ages occurred in
Europe. This era began as the Roman Empire collapsed, following the disorder that occurred
because of the destruction of the Romans. During this dark time, there was much disorder.
Eventually, this time period led to the rise of feudalism, the immense power of the Roman
Catholic Church, and many advancements in architecture, literacy, and art. The variety of
events that occurred in this period allowed historians to label it as many things. Four of these
labels are the Age of Faith, the Dark Ages, the Age of Feudalism, and the Golden Age of Europe
. During the Medieval Era, people of Europe were in disarray and disunity, and they trusted every
word the church spoke; therefore, the two best labels for this era are the Dark Ages and the Age
of Faith. The Medieval Era came to be labeled as the Dark Ages for multiple reasons. When the
Western Roman Empire collapsed, many barbaric civilizations found that it was the right time to
invade and gain some land in Europe, a land filled with anarchy and disunity at the time. These
barbarians were one of the great causes for the Middle Agesto be labeled as dark, for they were the
ones to cause violence, which then led to more events that put the Middle Ages into this category.
Frantz Funck Brentano further explains, The barbarians have broken through the ramparts... There
is no longer any trade, only unceasing terror... Society has no

Differences Between Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a classic Disney movie that most people know the plot to.
Before Walt Disney turned the tale into a movie, Brother Grimm had their own version of the
tale. Although the two stories had the same storyline there are many differences between them.
The main reason for the differences would be the audiences the creators are attracting. In the
Brothers Grimm version of Snow White the tale starts with a queen who wanted a child. She
had said she want a child as white as snow, as red as blood, and as black as the wood of the
window frame (83). The queen had given birth to a daughter who had all of the qualities she had
wished for, but died not long after her birth. In Walt Disney s version of Snow White and the
Seven Dwarfs the tale starts out with the evil queen asking the mirror who the fairest one of all.
The mirror responds with lips as red as the rose, hair black as ebony, skin white as snow
(Disney). The evil queen knew right away that it was Snow White that the mirror was talking
about. In both the Disney movie and the Brothers Grimm tale the step mother/ evil queen is a
beautiful lady, but proud and arrogant (83). When the evil queen found out that she was no longer
the fairest one of all she demanded to have Snow White killed. In the Brother Grimm tale Snow
White is only seven years old when this happens. In the movie Snow White s age is never given
but appears to be older than seven. In the written tale the evil queen

question was given in a short time period, two days rather than two weeks, to prompt respondents

much milk or meat their household consumed in order to measure monthly household
consumption of dairy and meat. The consumption value was then divided by the household s total

Perseus Archetypes
erica s obsession with Greek and Roman culture has been around for centuries. Buildings like the
Capitol, the White House, and even the Lincoln Memorial were designed with the intended
purpose of portraying the intimidating architecture of Ancient Greece. In fashion, elaborate
clothing crafted by designers imitate early Greek attire to display a regal femininity or a warrior
like masculinity. For entertainment purposes, books, television shows, and movies are used to
carry on the myths and stories of the Greek gods and Heroes. Depending on each myth, the story
could have been compromised from the act of being passed down from generation to generation. In
the original myth of Perseus, multiple archetypes were used and provided stereotypical roles in the
myth. However, the modern day Clash of the Titans movie portrayed the myth in a completely
different context, added or removed new characters and even changed the archetype of the
characters, thus changing the meaning of the story.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Oppression Of Motherhood
When will you have a child? is a question often heard by women nearing a certain age, or upon
achieving certain milestones in her life (such as marriage or after her 30th birthday). While it
may be true that women are indeed the only ones with the ability to bear children, having a child
is portrayed as a woman s right of passage. Individuals frequently overstep boundaries of privacy
and inquire insensitively about a woman s personal plan for children, and the male glorifying
society is to be blamed for this prying and expectation. Due to the fact that motherhood in general is
largely linked to women s subordination to men, voluntary alternate decisions are subject to public
criticism for violating the dominant norm. However, what if a woman truly has no desire to
become a mother? Is it really something that every woman should aspire to? Why are women
who opt not to procreate stigmatized in the first place? Is motherhood really as rewarding as
portrayed to be? It is vital to note that is essay is not intended to degrade or discredit motherhood,
as it is truly an extremely imperative, praiseworthy role, but, to closely examine... Show more

What Is Le Corbusier s View Of Classism
The Machine of Living.
In this essay one would read about how Classism challenged modernism or developed the
modernist movement and how modernism was used to create a new idea or style of living.
It will discuss Le Corbusier s view of classism and how his ideas of modernism influenced the
future of architecture and the design of a revolutionary building in Paris: CitГ© de Refuge.
Architecture was defined as a play of volumes under light, proportions and regulating lines by the
father of modernism Le Corbusier. His architectural philosophy was defined by Stephan Bayley as
elegant, simple and correct (Gerry, 2008). Classical architecture is defined as architecture which
refers to Greek and Roman architecture (classical antiquity) and also ... Show more content on

CitГ© de Refuge was the first chance that Le Corbusier had to deal with housing for the poor in a
city. (Roberts, 2010) (Army, 2017)
CitГ© de Refuge was to be a place not only to house the poor but to transform them into
members of the society. Le Corbisier saw CitГ© de Refuge as a machine for people to live in,
work in and sleep in, he saw it as an opportunity for them to learn how to live. The CitГ©
consisted of dormitories, apartments for single mothers, and a crГЁche for working mothers, a
canteen and an area for the training of workers. (Taylor, 1987)
Le Corbusier did intense research about city planning, plated glass and metal frames. CitГ© de
refuge was one of the first opportunities that Le Corbusier had to experiment with some of his
ideas, research and theories. Le Corbusier suggested a double curtain wall for the south façade of
the building. The wall worked on the concept of mechanically conditioned air between the opening

How Does Greene Present Fowler s Relationship In The Quiet...
In his allegorical novel The Quiet American , centered during the conflicts of the First Indo
China War, author Graham Greene aims to portray the majority of relationships as being driven
by selfish desires. Greene develops this motif through the eyes of protagonist Thomas Fowler,
whose initial indifferent cynicism towards the war enhances the idea that personal gain and
individual desires are the powering force behind the story s relationships. This egocentricity
prevailing within the friendship of characters Thomas Fowler and Alden Pyle, as well as Fowler
s affair with Vietnam, serves to further explore Greene s idea that personal gain plays a bigger role
than affection in any relationship. This idea is reinforced by both Fowler and Pyle s insensitive

faced prejudice and had disagreements with her father. She did not let hurdles slow her down or
stop her from being successful. Both of the women in these stories had to overcome prejudice to
get where they wanted to be in their career. Marie faced prejudice because of her race and where
she came from, but did not let that stop her from getting where she wanted to be. When she was
in school she would get teased because of her Osage heritage and her name. Rosa also suffered

Horror Of The Horror Movie
Weenie. That is the word that comes to mind when I think about myself watching horror films. I
am the girl that shields her eyes, jumps at the slightest jump scare, and cringes at the tiniest
amount of gore. But contrary to what this previous information might tell you about myself, I love
a good horror movie. I believe there is nothing that can bring a group of friends together like a good
ol scary filmon a crisp, Autumn night. A film that I discovered last Fall was The Babadook,
written and directed by Jennifer Kent. This film is a psychological horror, meaning it uses
different twists and tricks to scare you rather than using creepy creatures or gore. The main plot
of this movie is about a widowed mother, named Amelia who is still struggling with the effects
the death of her late husband has on her while she is raising their son, Samuel. The antagonist in
this film is the monster, The Babadook, who is the manifestation of the mother s depression.
This film has become a favorite of mine because it uses a monster to showcase how scary a very
common, real life problem is. Samuel and Amelia live alone in a small home in a quaint,
Australian town. Samuel has proven to be a problem child as he is always getting into some sort
of mischief at school or at home. He also is still afraid that monsters are living in his room even
though Amelia tries everything she can to help him cope with his fears but nothing seems to
help and the failure just adds fire to her internal storm she has. One night she tries to help calm
Samuel by allowing him to pick out a book to read as a bedtime story. Sam picks out the book
Mister Babadook. Obviously, this book tells the tale about the real life monster The Babadook
and it scared the child so bad he just laid in his mother s lap and screamed the entire night. This
screaming fit drove Amelia crazy and was sort of the straw that broke the camel s back to send her
into her depressive state. In the days after they read Mister Babadook, Samuel blamed his
mischievous behavior on The Babadook as it was beginning its haunting. Amelia believes Sam is
just up to his usual antics until she too starts feeling strange things occurring in their lives. After

Surgical Smoke Essay
Abstract
Surgical smoke is generated during the cutting or coagulation of tissue by a wide variety of
devices including laser, vessel sealing devices and electro cautery. Quantity of smoke generated is
variable based on the amount of tissue, open or closed procedure, device utilized and functional
temperature of the device. The contents of the smoke generated contain numerable volatile organic
compounds. Several carcinogenic particles have been isolated in surgical smoke. Both viral and
bacterial components have been identified in smoke particles. The size of particles in surgical
smoke is predominantly smaller than 2.5ВµM. Inhaled small particles have known negative health
effects. Smoke temperature was not identified as an evaluated vector of risk in the literature. The
literature does not definitively link surgical smoke exposure to injury or disease. Preventing
workplace exposure to tobacco smoke has reduced mortality. Operating room personnel are likely at
risk from chronic exposure to toxins, small particle inhalation and possible infectious transmissions
from smoke. Smoke evacuation systems can provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Experience With My Grandfather
My Grandfather s Lessons I remember when I was young, I loved fishing with my Grandfather
because he was an amazing man who always cared for his family. It was one of the most exciting
things I did as a kid because I felt like I was bonding with my grandfather. He was always fun to
be around when he made jokes, played around, and taught me life lessons. Reeling in fishes was
an accomplishment for me and my grandfather even if it was just one, we found it as if we did
something great together. I remember sitting in the boat with him one Saturday morning as we
were waiting to catch a fish. The weather was chilly 55 degrees as I recall. He was wearing his
same old fishing gear [black rain boots with old 49ers hat and a white tee shirt with dark blue
pants]. The sun was barely rising and I felt amazing, the scenery was beautiful I could see the
orange/redness light of the sun rising. The boat was an old boat, but I could tell because of the
green fading away on both sides, wasn t to big ether just enough to fit 3 adults and the motor
looked as if it was worn out. When I was there I didn t understand why the fishes weren t biting, I
was contemplating if the worms were good. As the time passed me and my grandfather didn t
say much, I felt odd by it because we usually spoke, but this time I could feel it was different. I
could not understand why he was so quiet, and as I was about to speak my grandfather told me

  • 2. Comparison of Li Po and Tu Fu s Poetry Essays Comparison of Li Po and Tu Fu s Poetry During the Tang Dynasty, Li Po and Tu Fu have reigned the literary world with their poetry. Their writing techniques and themes in their poetry allow them to stand out amongst other poets at the time. With the unique aspects and images these poets write about, they distinguish the similarities between themselves and contain different intensities in their poetry. While Li Po has a more relaxed tone to his poetry, Tu Fu deals with the serious aspects of life such as war, poverty, and suffering. Li Po s writingstyle is conventional and contains no new innovations. Much of his poetry contains older styles such as lu shih, chueh chu, and especially the ... For you I ll sing a song be pleased to bend your ears and hear; bells and drums, foods rare as jade these aren t worth prizing; all I ask is to be drunk forever, never to sober up! This excerpt from the poem Bring the Wine , is only one of the many hundreds of poems that portrays Li Po s love of wine and its affects. I take my wine jug out among the flowers to drink alone, without friends. I raise my cup to entice the moon. That, and my shadow, makes us three , is an excerpt from his Drinking Alone poem. It displays his love of wine and the enjoyment of the beauty of the moon. Tu Fu s poetry illustrates more serious topics and contains more serious themes. It contains more creation, tu tsao, and his writing styles have a modern twist to them. He also brought the chin t i form to popularity, making it a poetic statement. One characteristic of Tu Fu poems is that he incorporates and parallels two totally different topics together. For example, in his poem River Stop Tu Fu parallels the river and clouds to his heart and his mind. Rivers flow my heart doesn t try to keep up; clouds remain slow as my imagination. Tu Fu also condenses and distorts his poetry, which leaves his poetry ambiguous and open to suggestion. However, this may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Lord Of The Flies Comparison Research Question How do the similarities and differences between R.M. Ballantyne s The Coral Island and William Golding s Lord of the Flies emphasize their differing opinions on the nature of evil? Introduction When I first read Lord of the Flies, in seventh grade, I terrified my mother when I came home from school talking about the potential evil in all men s souls. Later that year, someone asked me what my favorite book was and, without hesitation, I responded Lord of the Flies. The shocked look on her face revealed that this was not the response she was expecting. Being only eleven, I did not understand the full implications of what I was saying about evil, what my favorite book might say about me, and why hearing those words from a child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using fear, as rumor of a monster s presence on the island becomes more and more real to the boys, and promises of meat, Jack successfully manipulates a majority of the group to leave Ralph. After Piggy s death, the rest of the littluns, that had been with Ralph, join Jack s group, less out of fear of a beast and more out of fear of Jack. This isolation, the contempt Jack feels towards Ralph, and the unnerving power that Jack holds over the rest of the boys culminates in the final hunt, where Jack orders the boys to track down and kill Ralph. Such a moment does not occur in The Coral Island. Throughout Ballantyne s novel, the boys remain friends and trusted companions. When Ballantyne s Ralph is kidnapped by pirates, the boys mourn him, thinking he has died. Ralph and Peterkin never question Jack s judgements or plans. Peterkin is always included in conversations, despite his young age, and respected. When Ralph contemplates how they managed to be so agreeable he comes to a conclusion: There was, indeed, no discord whatever in the symphony we played together on that sweet Coral Island; and I am now persuaded that this was owing to our having been all tuned to the same key namely, that of love! Yes, we loved one another with much fervency while we lived on that island; and, for a matter of that, we love each other still (Ballantyne 109). Fittingly, the final image of Ballantyne s boys is of them travelling together towards England, their home. Jack and Ralph s relationship, from Lord of the Flies, is more complex: They walked along, two continents of experience and feeling, unable to communicate. [...] They looked at each other, baffled, in love and hate (Golding 58 59). Jack and Ralph are too similar to get along, yet understand each other well enough to stay together for a time. • 7. Analysis Of Flamingo By Jennifer Price In Jennifer Price s The Plastic Flamingo she illustrates the cultural impact the pink flamingo had on the United States. Price conforms her idea of the United State s culture by providing important historical details to better portray and reveal the true passions of America during the rapid rise of the plastic flamingo. Price s overall view towards the United Stateswould be that Americans are self conceited and obsessed with wealth. In the first passage Price describes the growing population of the flamingo, throughout the United states, starting in Miami. Price uses historical context to emphasize the central idea that flamingos had a rapid growth in a short period of time. She uses the quote, In the 1910s and 1920s, Miami beach s first grand hotel, The Flamingo, had made the bird synonymous with wealth and pizzazz. to show how the growing fad would start. The quote, Since the 1930s , vacationing Americans had been flocking to Floridaand returning home with flamingo souvenirs. illustrates that after the hotel had been built, Americans instantly caught on to flamingos, most likely because it symbolized wealth. The historical context portrays that Americans are obsessed with wealth and strive to climb higher on the social ranking ladder. This ultimately reveals Price s view towards the United States as materialistic and wealth hungry. In the second passage Price continues the timeline of the flamingo popularity. • 8. Dog Whistling Is A Term Used By Politicians Dog Whistle Politics is a term used by politicians to persuade the people by gaining their votes into a political position of power. Dog Whistling has been used for years by politicians to achieve what they want while campaigning for public offices. Politicians have been maneuvering and scheming for years during elections for the peoples vote. They have always put on a show for the people just to receive their vote. They set their sights on an office of public position and they begin a long and hard working race to gain votes. Dog whistling is just a different way for them to use codes or demonstrate to certain people to what they are really trying to say. Politicians portray a good and upright demeanor. It s part of their job. During their campaign for a specific position, they make promises to the people, they put time into well thought out and written speeches, they research every city and the population during the campaign tour and it is all to persuade the vast majority of people for their vote. It deals with race as well. Dog Whistling and racism seem to go hand in hand because it s dealing with race. Racism has been in politics for years. Dog Whistling is just a word used to speak to a certain group of people in code. Racism is still imbedded in us as people because we cannot treat each other equal. This definition holds true today but started at the beginning of the Civil War when submarines originally became a popular choice of weaponry. In general, submarine crews were composed of a commander, who steered the boat, and six or more men who used hand cranks to move the boat. Many inventors intended on creating electric motors to move the boat, but they were unable to produce enough torque. Submarines were primarily used in combat because they could travel invisibly. • 12. The Tolkien s The Hobbit As the story of The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien develops, readers of this book can see that one of the main characters experience a metamorphosis. From the beginning of the story throughout the end, Bilbo goes through a change, but for the better. Tolkien s main character Bilbo in The Hobbit shows the theme of becoming a hero by gaining courage and confidence as the story progresses. During the beginning of The Hobbit Bilbo likes to stay to himself in his hobbit hole. We see that he is also shy when the author say Since they have become rare and shy of the Big People (Tolkien 1). Here readers can see that the author is describing the hobbits, including Bilbo himself as shy around people and creatures that are not like himself. The author starts off the story by telling the readers that Bilbo was shy to show that he did not have much confidence, and due to his lack of confidence he had a lack of experience. The abductors wrote on the papers step by step what they want them to do demanded a value of $118,000 for JonBenet to be returned home safe and unharmed which was really weird because it is almost exactly equal to the bonus that Patsy s husband John Ramsey had just lately got. When Patsy went to JonBenet s room and found out that she was not there Patsy and John reacted as quickly as possible then she and John had called the police to file JonBenet missing at 5:25 AM and telling the operator the ransom be aware s risk that JonBenet could be killed if the police have been notified. In keeping with the ransom observe and carefulness the abductors could be calling John Ramsey to offer him advice to give the ransom cash which he and Patsy had been already busy on gathering when the police arrived to their house. That decision by no means came. Then, police immediately suspected that John and Patsy have been somehow concerned in their daughter s disappearance. A Study On Private Equity Investments The last few decades have witnessed massive evolution of private equity (PE) investing from the small niche it used to be to the significant industry it is today. Currently, PE plays an essential role in the economy; it enhances innovation and growth in expanding firms or promising start ups, as well as by nurturing the restructuring of companies that are already mature (e.g., Davila et al., 2003; Cressy et al., 2007). Lets go back to when men valued thought, for they valued its effect on the world, lets go back and take a look at the father of Christian Existentialism, SГёren Kierkegaard. SГёren Kierkegaard was born to a father who inflicted strict and rigorous religious teaching upon his children. His father felt this was necessary because of his sinful habit that resulted in an affair with his 1st wife s maid. Kierkegaard, after a broken engagement with his love, was handed over to a life of severe melancholy. Yet as a result of both his personal pain and brilliant mind, a literary life few could surpass, and wisdom of thought (does that make sense) ensued.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His answer was summarized in three words, Fear and Trembling. This is something that he spent an immense amount of time answering, and his answers can be condensed into the example that he gave from the Old Testament in the Bible. He gives Christians an example in which to follow, in the patriarch Abraham. The example that Abraham gives, and we are to follow, is found in how Abraham responds to the command to kill his son. For man, especially a father, this command is unfathomable, yet because God wanted to test Abraham (give better reasoning), he told him to sacrifice his son. Kierkegaard looks at Genesis 22:2, it says, He said, Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you. He notes the unbearable precision in the command, when God says take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love (emphasis added) Kierkegaard also takes a close look at the beginning of the next verse, it says, So Abraham rose early in the morning. He notes that some men take this excerpt to men that Abraham was rising early to faithfully carry out his duty. And while that has some truth to it, it is not complete, Kierkegaard emphasizes the fact that he rose early, not because he got a great night of sleep, rather that he wrestled with this command in ... This tactic is often used by abusive individuals who are attempting to convince an abused individual to stay in a relationship with them. Furthermore, Lonesome also has an extremely inflated ego, another major indicator of psychopathy. Lonesome s wife states that she wants three thousand dollars a month before she will divorce Lonesome, threatening to make Lonesome and Marcia s lives harder should he decline her offer. Positive And Negative Effects On Colonial America Julia DeVincenzoBetween the sixteenth and mid eighteenth century, Tokuwaga Japan and the colonization of America by Spain led the world in silver production. The increase in silver prompted an extensive variety of consequences. Silver mining became extremely popular especially during Ming China, where it was used as currency, in which all domestic taxes and trade fees were to be paid in. Although silver served as a great way to facilitate trade, the increase in demand led to social disputes and a decline in the economies of many countries. Based on the documents, the rapid incline in demand for silver proved to have both positive and negative effects on colonial America, Japan, China, and the world around them. Contrary to most Chinese thoughts, the production of silver hurt the economy of Ming China. Document 3, for example, states that the scarcity of the silver coin is what s damaging the harvests. Wang Xijue, a court official, believes there is too much silver being used for taxes, that there is not enough left to care for the plantations. He Qiaoyuan, also a Ming court official, describes how much profit the country could make if it opened up its doors to trade with the Europeans (document 7). In 1976 1977 there was an absolute near extinction of these finches. This is because of the drought of 1976 and 1977 (see figure 1). While the drought made the Finch population dwindle there was a hidden trait that was helping some survive, and that is beak size. Why did the larger beaks help those fortunate Finches survive? • 32. Comparison Of Shirley Hutchinson And The Lottery Compare and Contrast Essay To start, the theme I chose for these two articles that we will be comparing and contrasting is standing up for what is right may not be the easiest path. This means that when you are thinking about standing up for someone and no one else starts to, it may be hard for you to start standing up for someone. In The Lottery Tessie Hutchinson and her family live in a town that do this thing called the lottery, but you don t win any money during this lottery , you get the prize of death. In First They Came... Martin Niemoller expresses his point of view on how he did not speak out for people in danger, when he should have. I chose this theme, because in both The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and First They Came... by Martin Niemoller there are some people that could have stood up for each other but no one around them did so they didn t want to. These two articles are alike, because people die in both of these events . This shows that in First They Came and The Lottery that people in the village or different groups of people were too afraid of standing up for Tessie, or the Socialists, Trade Unionists, or the Jews. On one hand, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is a fictional short story about well the lottery, but it is not the lottery that you think of when you hear that word. The Claim of this essay is standing up for what is right may not be the easiest path. Evidence that supports this claim is Suddenly, Tessie Hutchinson shouted to Mr. Summers, You didn t give him enough time to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It wasn t fair! This quote means that Tessie Hutchinson was trying to stand up for her husband Bill Hutchinson. However, after she does this the crowd goes after her telling her Be a good sport, Tessie Mrs. Delacroix called, and Mrs. Graves said All of us took the same chance shut up, Tessie Bill Hutchinson said . This means Tessie tried to stand up for her husband and it clearly was not easy. I think we ought to start over, Mrs. Hutchinson said, as quietly as she could I tell you it wasn t fair. You didn t give him enough time to choose. Everybody saw that This quote means that Tessie was still trying to stand up for her family and no one listened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Chinese government has spent more than 40 years trying to slow their population growth. They have done so through their controversial one child policy. There is no denying that China s one child policy changed the lives of Chinese citizens when it the Chinese Communist Party [CCP] in 1979 as a way of controlling population. Under Mao, the government encouraged families to have as many children as possible, believing that a strong nation grew out of a large population. By 1976, the population grew from 540 million people in 1949 to 940 million. The rapid increase in population stretched the resources that the CCP could provide to the people. The government believed that a population control policy was the only way they prevent the population from experiencing another dramatic increase in size . The CCP hoped that the policy would alleviate some of the social and economic pressure an increasing population created, and the policy has worked. According to data collected by the World Bank, China s birth rate has fallen from 2.63 in 1980 to 1.217 as of 2014, preventing an estimate two hundred to four hundred million births . For all its intended benefits, the one child policy has also brought many unintended consequences, both harmful and beneficial; and these consequences have disproportionately affect girl and women more than boys and men. • 40. Analyzing The Consumers Generating Inter Harmonic Frequencies Alexander B. Nassif and Jing Yong [7] have proposed a method to identify the consumers generating inter harmonic frequencies. The inter harmonics can be measured by means of Impedance based approach applied at the metering point. The main idea is that, the inter harmonic impedance of the system is much smaller than that of an inter harmonic generating load. This method can identify the source of each inter harmonic component without having to rely solely on the active power measurement and requires only an approximate value for the inter harmonic impedance measured at the metering point. As per references [2], [6], [7], [9] any device with nonlinear characteristics which derive their input power from a sinusoidal electrical system may be responsible for injecting harmonic currents voltages into the electrical system [2, 6, 7, 9 ]. Francisco C. De la rossa [2] have described ,all possible nonlinear loads . Among them few are Power converters such as Variable frequency drives, DC motor controllers, Cycloconverter, Cranes, Elevators ,Steel mills, Power supplies, UPS,Battery chargers, Inverters ARC devices such as Fluorescent lighting, ARC furnaces, Welding machines. Eventually, this time period led to the rise of feudalism, the immense power of the Roman Catholic Church, and many advancements in architecture, literacy, and art. The variety of events that occurred in this period allowed historians to label it as many things. Four of these labels are the Age of Faith, the Dark Ages, the Age of Feudalism, and the Golden Age of Europe . During the Medieval Era, people of Europe were in disarray and disunity, and they trusted every word the church spoke; therefore, the two best labels for this era are the Dark Ages and the Age of Faith. The Medieval Era came to be labeled as the Dark Ages for multiple reasons. When the Western Roman Empire collapsed, many barbaric civilizations found that it was the right time to invade and gain some land in Europe, a land filled with anarchy and disunity at the time. Individuals frequently overstep boundaries of privacy and inquire insensitively about a woman s personal plan for children, and the male glorifying society is to be blamed for this prying and expectation. • 52. Horror Of The Horror Movie Weenie. That is the word that comes to mind when I think about myself watching horror films. I am the girl that shields her eyes, jumps at the slightest jump scare, and cringes at the tiniest amount of gore. But contrary to what this previous information might tell you about myself, I love a good horror movie. I believe there is nothing that can bring a group of friends together like a good ol scary filmon a crisp, Autumn night. A film that I discovered last Fall was The Babadook, written and directed by Jennifer Kent. This film is a psychological horror, meaning it uses different twists and tricks to scare you rather than using creepy creatures or gore. The main plot of this movie is about a widowed mother, named Amelia who is still struggling with the effects the death of her late husband has on her while she is raising their son, Samuel. The antagonist in this film is the monster, The Babadook, who is the manifestation of the mother s depression. This film has become a favorite of mine because it uses a monster to showcase how scary a very common, real life problem is. Samuel and Amelia live alone in a small home in a quaint, Australian town. Samuel has proven to be a problem child as he is always getting into some sort of mischief at school or at home. He also is still afraid that monsters are living in his room even though Amelia tries everything she can to help him cope with his fears but nothing seems to help and the failure just adds fire to her internal storm she has. One night she tries to help calm Samuel by allowing him to pick out a book to read as a bedtime story. Sam picks out the book Mister Babadook. Obviously, this book tells the tale about the real life monster The Babadook and it scared the child so bad he just laid in his mother s lap and screamed the entire night. This screaming fit drove Amelia crazy and was sort of the straw that broke the camel s back to send her into her depressive state. In the days after they read Mister Babadook, Samuel blamed his mischievous behavior on The Babadook as it was beginning its haunting. Amelia believes Sam is just up to his usual antics until she too starts feeling strange things occurring in their lives. After getting rid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Surgical Smoke Essay Abstract Surgical smoke is generated during the cutting or coagulation of tissue by a wide variety of devices including laser, vessel sealing devices and electro cautery. Quantity of smoke generated is variable based on the amount of tissue, open or closed procedure, device utilized and functional temperature of the device. The contents of the smoke generated contain numerable volatile organic compounds. Several carcinogenic particles have been isolated in surgical smoke. Both viral and bacterial components have been identified in smoke particles. The size of particles in surgical smoke is predominantly smaller than 2.5ВµM. Inhaled small particles have known negative health effects. Smoke temperature was not identified as an evaluated vector of risk in the literature. The literature does not definitively link surgical smoke exposure to injury or disease. Preventing workplace exposure to tobacco smoke has reduced mortality. Operating room personnel are likely at risk from chronic exposure to toxins, small particle inhalation and possible infectious transmissions from smoke. Smoke evacuation systems can provide ... In 2014 Tseng published in the world Journal of surgical oncology along with his partners a study aimed at assessing the exact cancer risk after exposure to surgical smoke.14 Using data from 10 mastectomies, in which large amounts of tissue was cauterized and smoke generated, smoke samples were collected from within 30 cm at the breathing height of the surgeons and anesthetic technologist and evaluated by GCMS.14 20 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were detected in the smoke.14 The study confirmed data found in several studies and identifies that particles from electro cautery smoke often are in the size range of 0.3 up to 0.5 Вµm.6,7,9,10,14 Cancer risk was calculated as increased and above World Health Organization standards for both personnel, primarily (89%) due to the particulate matter of the smoke versus the gaseous ... • 54. My Experience With My Grandfather My Grandfather s Lessons I remember when I was young, I loved fishing with my Grandfather because he was an amazing man who always cared for his family. It was one of the most exciting things I did as a kid because I felt like I was bonding with my grandfather. He was always fun to be around when he made jokes, played around, and taught me life lessons. Reeling in fishes was an accomplishment for me and my grandfather even if it was just one, we found it as if we did something great together. I remember sitting in the boat with him one Saturday morning as we were waiting to catch a fish. The weather was chilly 55 degrees as I recall. He was wearing his same old fishing gear [black rain boots with old 49ers hat and a white tee shirt with dark blue pants]. The sun was barely rising and I felt amazing, the scenery was beautiful I could see the orange/redness light of the sun rising. The boat was an old boat, but I could tell because of the green fading away on both sides, wasn t to big ether just enough to fit 3 adults and the motor looked as if it was worn out. When I was there I didn t understand why the fishes weren t biting, I was contemplating if the worms were good. As the time passed me and my grandfather didn t say much, I felt odd by it because we usually spoke, but this time I could feel it was different. I could not understand why he was so quiet, and as I was about to speak my grandfather told me Bryan as you get older there s morals you must stick with , I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
