Historically Black Colleges And Universities (Hbcus)
I.Topic
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) principle mission is the education of Black
Americans (Redd, 1998). The first historically black colleges and universities were founded in the
pre Civil War years (mid and late 1800s). Cheyney Statae University (originally called The Institute
for Colored Youth) was founded in Pennsylvania in 1837. This university was founded as a normal
school by Pennsylvania Quakers. The first two post secondary institutions specifically for Blacks
were founded in 1854 and 1856. Ashmun Institute (later renamed Lincoln University of
Pennsylvania), the first, was founded by Presbyterians and Wilberforce University in Ohio. The
second was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church. These institutions, ... Show more content

It enacted a law that required all states bearing dual segregated institutions for whites and blacks
to have a minimum of one land grant institution specifically for blacks. The funding that was
allocated for the establishment and maintenance of this black college has to be equivalent to
their white counterparts (Reed, 1998). The passage of this act was a significant force in
increasing the number of HBCUs. This act required admissions criteria for already established
universities to rid race as a factor or to provide a separate land grant institution for Blacks. As
stated by Albritton, the Second Morrill Act contained a clause that stated No money shall be paid
out under this act to any State or Territory for the support and maintenance of a college where a
distinction of race or color is made in the admission of students, but the establishment and
maintenance of such colleges separately for white and colored students should be held to be a
compliance with the provisions of this act if the funds received in such State or Territory be

Genuine Progress Indicator
The first set of alternatives explores a progress indicator as opposed to a total dollar value of all
goods and services (GDP). The most successful alternative in this category seems to be GPI, or
Genuine Progress Indicator. GPI takes the total dollar value of all goods and services, just as GDP
does, but also computes several negative economic effects (including the cost of crime, cost of
ozone depletion, etc.) for a more accurate measure of well being. Since GPI includes both positive
and negative economic influences, many economists consider it to be a superior measurementto
GDP, as GPI s variety of factors are a better determinant of the true well being of a country. Certain
countries have decided to solely rely on GPI for evaluating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The original happiness measurement, GNH or Gross National Happiness, was created in the 1970 s
by the fourth king of Bhutan. The system emphasizes non economic aspects of well being (GNH),
and uses 33 factors to generate a single number index for each country. The 33 factors are divided
into four pillars: good governance, sustainable socio economic development, cultural preservation,
and environmental conservation. Since the system s inception, these four pillars have been
expanded into nine domains to further define the true happiness; these domains include
psychological wellbeing, health, education, time use, cultural diversity and resilience, good
governance, community vitality, ecological diversity and resilience, and living standards. GNH has
found a satisfactory amount of success, inspiring measurement systems such as National Accounts
of Well Being and Happy Planet Index to form. National Accounts of Well Being monitor the
experience of a population and a sense of individual vitality, while the Happy Planet Index measures

Examples Of Abandonment In The Glass Menagerie
An action as extreme as abandonment can only be the result of one failing to find happiness in their
circumstances. People will often run away from their life to create one in which they hope to find
more meaning. In Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie, he presents the possible reasons
behind abandonment through Tom s attitude, actions, and thoughts.
To begin with, the author presents one important reason Tom abandons his family is his attitude
towards them. Firstly, Tom is bothered by Amanda when she advices to Tom to get rid of his bad
eating habits. However, Tom is annoyed by Amanda s comments and responds with, I haven t
enjoyed one bite of this dinner because of your constant directions on how to eat it. It s you that
make me rush through meals with your hawk like attentions to every bite I take (Williams 753).

An example of this is when Tom and his Mother have a huge argument after his mother insists on
taking Tom s book by D.H Lauren back to the library just because the book was too hideous to be
kept inside the house. Tom argues with her that he is the one that pays the rent therefore, he
should be able to keep the book in the house, he is also angry about not having enough privacy.
Amanda claims he has something to hide and does not think that he is going to the movies. Tom
Outrages and breaks Laura s Glass menagerie in an attempt to leave the house. He goes through a
series of violent, clumsy movements, seizing his overcoat, lunging to the door pulling it fiercely
open...it strikes against the shelf of Laura s glass collections, there is a tinkle of shattering glass
(Williams 760). This shows how angry and destructive Tom is towards his family which could
overtime potentially lead into him abandoning his family out of anger and disagreement with their
choices. Tom could also possibly want to leave them so that he could get the freedom he

Bear Attack Research Papers
Although uncommon, it s not other worldly to be attacked by a black bear in the wilderness. It s
hard to say how the body would react in certain situations. Sort of like a plane crash. The flight
attendant gives instructions on how to deal with the crash and what the procedure is, but when a
plane is really crashing there is a lot more panic involved. The same goes for a bear attack. At the
sight of a charging bear, the initial reaction and instinct of a human is to run. Bearsare actually faster
than horses and can climb more effectively than squirrels, making running away the worst
possible option. When traveling through bear territory, it s best to make lots of noise. This
generally startles the bear and sends it into a scurry. When in the face of a bear however, this is
the last thing a human should do. In fact, the proper thing to do when a bear attacks is much
easier than running; playing dead. It s hard to believe, but playing dead really works. Because
bears usually attack humans when they feel threatened, playing dead is the perfect solution.
Once the bear believes you are dead, that means the threat is eliminated and the bear will usually
move on. Once the bear is at a safe distance, it is ok then to get up and call or go for help. It is
imperative, however, that the human must play dead until the bear is long gone. The bear may
actually feel more threatened if the human gets up and calls for help too fast. When playing dead, it
is very important to stay... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Criticism Of The Screwtape Letters
What a Tragedy! The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a satirical comedy about a demon,
Wormwood, who tries to influence the behavior of his patient. The letters are written to Wormwood
by his uncle, Screwtape. Wormwood s ultimate goal by influencing the patient s actions is to ensure
that he will end up in hell. Though Wormwoodtries his best to excel in every task he is assigned,
he usually ends up failing. As a result of Wormwood s failures, Screwtape provides him with
helpful advice that comes with criticism. Although Lewis intended for the story to be comical, it
should be interpreted as a tragedy. In the beginning of chapter 5, Screwtape is infuriated with
Wormwood. Screwtape expected a detailed report from Wormwood on his progress with the
patient and instead he received a vague rhapsody because Wormwood was intoxicated. Wormwood
is reminded that duty comes before pleasure. This instance is similar to one that Henri Bergson
uses in his theory of comedy. Bergson suggest the idea of absentmindedness. He defines this as,
when a certain comic effect has its origin in a certain cause, the more natural we regard the cause
to be, the more comic shall we find the effect. (Bergson) Most adults would claim that they have
had a drink of alcohol before. Drinking alcohol is a natural human feature, that even Jesus

Why Do You Say Moral I Say Huckleberry Finn
You Say Morals , I Say Ethics American author and humorist Mark Twain s The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn is often labeled the Great American Novel due not only to its tendency towards
Realism and its controversial issue of slavery, but also the ethical and moral challenges faced within
the book. Huckleberry Finn, as the novel progresses, physically and mentally grows due to the
circumstances, decisions, and obstacles he endures; with such experiences come the gain of moral
development. However, despite whatever moral maturity Huck undergoes, his ethics remain
stagnant.
While there is an interchangeable use and common overlap between morals and ethics, they differ
greatly and there is an important distinction between the two. The ... Show more content on

His morals develop as his experiences end up changing his opinions. Many of Huck s original
principals evolve particularly his views of death and lying. At first, Huck s grasp of death is
merely the concept of death, and one he views as exciting. In chapter two, Huck and Tom Sawyers
gang speak and encourage death and violence nonchalantly in fact, the boys order that should
anyone desert the gang, their family shall face the consequences of death as compensation of
such a betrayal: they said that every boy must have a family or somebody to kill, or else it
wouldn t be fair and square for the others...and so I offered them Miss Watson they could kill her
(Twain, 8). However, Huck is later so shaken by the horror and death that he witnessed during
the Grangerford and Shepherdson murders that he says I ain t a going to tell all that happened
it would make me sick again if I was to do that. I wished I hadn t ever come ashore that night to
see such things. I ain t ever going to get shut of them lots of times I dream about them (Twain,
115). Needless to say, Huck s tolerance and views of death change dramatically and he now sees
death as a horrible realty rather than a romanticized concept. Huck s moral compass also develops
in terms of the acceptability of deceit. Huckleberry lies viciously to Jim at one point, for no reason
other than for his own enjoyment: Well, this is too many for me, Jim. I

Religious Beliefs Of The Catholic Church
The Catholic Church s current pope, Pope Francis, once said, A good Catholic meddles in politics,
offering the best of himself, so that those who govern can govern. But what is the best that we can
offer to those who govern? Prayer! (Pope Francis, 2013). Catholics are approximately half of the
number of Christians, numbering more than one billion members. This number makes it one of the
largest religions in the world. In 2003, the Catholic population in the United States was 63.4 million
people (Roman Catholic Church, 2017). The Catholic Church s basic beliefs influence their
demographics, party affiliation, stances on different political issues, and involvement in American
politics.
I attended a service at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At this service,
politics were not directly mentioned, but Father Darin Schmidt said a few interesting words. In a
message to the congregation he said, love unconditionally, without limits. He also said, peace,
liberty, and justice for all. One might recognize liberty and justice for all from our nation s Pledge
of Allegiance, and this quote displays a sense of patriotism in the church. These quotes are helpful
in understanding the Catholic Church s ideologies. During prayer, they mentioned a few current
issues including support for the military, the Las Vegas shooting, refugees, and victims of natural
disasters. Besides these few observations, the service did not express any straightforward political

Kitty Ball Character Analysis
When we were first introduced to Kitty, I thought she was a standard, sheltered little princess
with few problems in her life. She seemed like a Bella Swan style bimbo, a perfectly beautiful
airhead from a poorly written fanfiction. Jacob or Edward? Vronsky or Levin? Her life was like
an empty romance story disguised by flowery language. She s loved despite having absolutely no
merit. And in many ways, Kitty truly is a spoiled, overprotected girl. But, when she is rejected by
Vronsky, something inside her fundamentally changes.
Kitty s rejection by Vronsky is not just a single heartbreak; instead, it is representative of growing

She isn t some trashy homewrecker who Kitty can bring herself to hate or even brush off; she s a
mature and elegant woman who is far more grown than Kitty is. Even her outfit reflects this: even
though Kitty thought Anna would look most beautiful in a bright, gaudy lilac, Anna chooses to
wear a minimal, and yet ultimately more stunning, black dress. Kitty observes Anna s dance with
Vronsky, and the feelingthat she will never truly come to understand everything in the way Anna
does hits her hard. In comparison to Anna, Kitty is unquestionably a child, and this comes with two
thoughts: first, the thought that she is the inferior woman, and second, the realization that she is
too inexperienced to be making decisions about such important matters as marriage.
She becomes further overwhelmed by the weight of choosing a spouse as it becomes clear to
her that her thought that Vronsky ever loved her was completely wrong. As Kitty observes
Vronsky and Anna s dance, it hits her that Vronsky has never loved her in the first place. She
sees that Anna was drunk with the wine of the rapture she inspired (81) in Vronsky. Vronsky s
admiration and obedience is clear as day to Kitty, and she is horrified (81) to see how he loses
all her confidence in the face of Anna s beauty. As she watches the two dance, she experiences a
feeling she never has before jealousy. She can feel the significance of every motion they make.

Little Ships During The Operation Dynamo
The role played by the Little Ships during the Operation Dynamo has been heavily mythicized by
contemporary accounts of Dunkirk. For instance, a heading in The Times from June 4, 1940
referred to the civilian vessels at Dunkirk as a Magnificent Spirit . Furthermore, the column noted
how Fishermen, yachtsmen, yacht builders, yacht clubs, river boatmen responded in Britain s time
of need and how the civilian sailors manned their craft with volunteer crews and rushed them to the
assembly point . Similarly, another piece from The Times helped illustrate a sense of mass,
spontaneous civilian participation by making reference to how the only complaints people had
about volunteering their vessels Dunkirkcame from boat owners who could not get themselves
onboard in time to go to their boats . Newspapers publishing articles such as the two noted above
helped form the public conception of the Little Ships as a mass armada of selfless volunteers
who helped rescue countless Allied troops and delivered them to British coastal ports. The
pinnacle of this fantasifull narrative was Paul Gallico s short story, The Snow Goose, published in
The Saturday Evening Post. Within said novella, the protagonist narrates a romanticized rendition
of the Little Ship story where every tug and fishing boat or power launch that could propel itself
was heading across the Channel ... to rescue as many as possible from the German fire . The main

Public Schools Vs. Sex Schools
Public Schools v. Single Sex Schools
Did you ever think about the people that your children are surrounded by throughout the school

school? Education is very important. Some of the reasons education is important are quite simple.
Education is to better a person s self knowledge needed later in life. We start education at such a
young age because children have a different level of common knowledge. Students learn at
different paces. Some children are smart when they are little and they know how to say their ABC

Schooling and education as a whole, whether public or single sex, is very important. However,
there has always been a struggle between single sex schools and public schools. Public schools
started in 1821. The first public school started in Boston, Massachusetts at the end of the 19th
century. Before that, single sex schools were very common. From then on, there has been fights
between different people arguing whether children should go to public schools or single sex
schools. Children should go to public schools. They should only go to public schools because they
need interaction with different peers, learn how to deal with real world problems and learn the
differences between boys and girls.
One of the main reasons children should go to public schools is because they need to interact
with different peers. During school, girls and boys were thought to be equal (Single, A). However,
that was not always the case. Boys were cared for more than girls were, until Title IX stepped in.
Title IX is the revision of a landmark 1970s law to make sure equal access to education for girls
was given (Single, A) . After that law was passed in 1972, there were limiting single sex schools
and both genders were looked after equally (Single, A).
The people on the feminist leaning side of the debate see the conversation about a boys crisis as a
strategy to advance the single sex education agenda. I m not sure that is correct. I don t think the

How Did Erasmus Influence Humanism
The works of the Dutch humanist Desiderius Erasmus, often titled the
Praise of Folly, Erasmus s seminal pre Reformation essay examines aspects of Church teaching as
well as aspects of worship which Erasmus deems worthy of the biting satire he utilises
Erasmus was unrelenting in his criticism of pedantry, sophistry and demagoguery among both
clerical and secular figures.
Rediscovery of Aristotle and the birth of humanism in the renaissance
The influence of Erasmus on humanism during this time was so great as to ensure that Northern
Renaissance humanism came to be labelled Erasmian. A movement which, unlike its Italian

It will describe the role of Erasmus in the reformation and Erasmus s unease at his position
straddling the ever increasing divide in Western Christendom between the traditionalist Catholic
position and that of the Reformers.
, placing Erasmus in either camp, given his reputation as simultaneously the intellectual godfather
of Reformation thought and his ostensible life long loyalty (despite his persistent criticisms) to the
Roman church is innately problematic.
Erasmus s own view of Praise of Folly is a subject of much dispute. Going by his own writings it
seems unsure just how seriously he expected that particularly work to be taken. Certainly its
theological merit is utterly overshadowed by much of the rest of his body of work.
Hard to know how much import Erasmus himself attached to the work given his writings hence

The power and potency of Praise of Folly and the effectiveness of Folly as a serious messenger
were perhaps inadvertent on the part of the author.

Media And Its Effects On The Media Essay
In modern societies, the availability of information is vital to better decision making by voters,
consumers, and investors. Much of that information is provided by the media, such as newspapers,

What Is Anime In America
The Sophistication of Anime In America
Japanese animation, called anime for short, landed its first major hit in America with an animation
called Astro Boy. This animation was black and white and was created just like any other animated
film would have been at that time, hand drawn and taken frame by frame. Now however, current
anime has surpassed its predecessors and is full of colorful characters and backgrounds that are
appealing to the eye. Anime has also grown beyond targeting children and is now more targeted
towards viewers with double digit ages and triple digit IQ s or young and old adults, as stated by
Patrick Drazen, author of the book Anime Explosion!: The What? Why? Wow! Of Japanese
Animation. Even so, people still consider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Acting as a base manga paves a way for anime to flourish into society and also acts as a guide for
an anime s storyline. However, anime doesn t just depend on manga; manga also depends on
anime. Patrick Drazen, author of the book Anime Explosion! agrees with Chambers on the fact
that many Japanese anime begin life as comic books, and even goes on to say, This has several
advantages, including the goodwill and familiarity of an audience that already knows and cares
about the characters. It also enables the viewer who is familiar with the manga story to fill in the
blanks as they see the counterpart anime (Drazen). Chambers also approaches anime as a
completely different subject addressing how anime and manga are two completely different art
forms. This view can be true with new technologies emerging around the world, and the method
of making hand drawn anime being replaced by other methods such as CG (computer graphics).
An article written by The Associated Press details small interviews with people in Anaheim s
Anime Expo, which is considered the largest convention of anime and manga in American. Here,
Oliver, an anime director from Los Angeles, states that, CG is becoming increasingly less
expensive to do, and mass produce (The Associated Press). Also taking a stance on the difference
between anime and manga The Associated Press addresses how unlike hand drawn anime, CG
features ultra realistic, fluid movements and seamless shadows and light. With new methods
replacing the old it is very viable to say that anime has deviated a small portion from its original
hand drawing method. In fact, this deviation is enhancing the features of new anime and, is
creating a more realistic and sophisticated animation

Free Trade And Trade Agreements
Free Trade
Free trade is a policy in which the government does not interfere against imports or impedes with
exports by applying tariffs (Encyclopedia, 2015). Free trade is about removing barriers like
tariffs, quotas, and other restrictions. Tariffs are taxes that the countries enforce on imported
goods and services, they are set in place to make trade harder. This ultimately causes the price of
goods and services for consumers to be more expensive. Quotas are a limited quantity countries put
on imports and exports. Barriers to trade is a government limitation on the amount of international
goods and services. Countries decide to put up barriers on trade for the sole purpose of protecting
their own economy and interests. The United States has free trade agreements with 20 countries,
including the North American Free Trade Agreement(NAFTA), the Tran Pacific Partnership
Agreement (TPP), and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T TIP). There are many
advantages and disadvantages with free trade agreements. The North American Free Trade
Agreement was implemented in 1994, it consists of three countries; Canada, Mexico, and the
United States. NAFTA is the largest free zone which sets the groundwork for a stronger economic
development as well as the raise in prosperity between this countries (NAFTA, 2013). For the three
countries in the agreement, NAFTA has removed tariffs and non tariff barriers such as quotas,
licensing and other limitations. Before it was

Pros And Cons Of Book Catalogue Vs. Online Catalogue
PROS AND CONS OF RETRIEVAL TOOLS
Book Catalogue VS Online Catalogue
Book Catalogue is the old version of catalogue which is commonly used in American libraries to

Not Another Pledge Death Essay
Greek Life, or the presence of fraternities and sororities, exists in many colleges and universities.
According to Michael Grandillo in an Encyclopedia article, there are more than 5,500 chapters on
800 campuses throughout the United States and Canada. Although Greek Life is so common,
participation in such organizations can be a controversial topic, particularly when critics suggest
that hazing can be detrimental to students health and college careers. For those who do not know
much about Greek Life, or the process that one goes through to become affiliated with this system,
there is first a week called rush week, where fraternities and sororitieshost parties in attempt to

Carrington was pronounced dead from water intoxication, which caused his brain and lungs to
swell. Korry reports that similar hazing related deaths have occurred at least once a year for
over three decades. Evidently, not all Greek organizations have upheld a safe, educational, and
life changing pledge process that they often promise. In addition, many students fear that
pledging a fraternity or sorority will cause their grades to suffer tremendously for a semester. In
reality, this is a matter of ignorance, for most Greek organizations designate certain hours where
their pledges must be in the library to do their work or study. If pledges decide not to capitalize
on these library hours, then it would be their own fault, rather than the fault of the organization, for
their poor performance. Despite these potential risks, students can benefit greatly from
participating in Greek Life. Although some students are aware of the benefits that Greek life has
to offer, others join Greek organizations merely for the social status that comes along with
wearing letters, or to add a line to their resumes. In my opinion, those who pledge a Greek
organization learn many life skills that will prove to be advantageous for the rest of their lives.
Students that are timid often become more outgoing after pledging, because certain pledging tasks
involve talking to and meeting new people.

The Impact Of Remuneration On The Workplace Essay
It is universally acknowledged that remuneration is the key to drive the employees to be more
productivity, enhance job satisfaction as well as the direction that determines the organizational
behaviour of one. In the early 1900s, Taylor (1903) suggested that financial incentives were
significant in improving efficiency of workers. However, the role of money has been revealed that
it is not the sole factor to improve worker performance, while other factors need to be considered, as
such human relations and social networks in the workplace, it is evident that these have become
more important nowadays. Motivationdefined by Kreitner (1995) is the process that gives
behaviour purpose and direction. It is also defined as psychological drives which determine the
behaviour, amount of effort put and degree of persistence in the face of obstacles (Kanfer 1990).
Motivation contains both intrinsic and extrinsic sources (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). Intrinsically
motivated behaviours are driven for self interest whereby extrinsically motivated behaviour is
performed to satisfy own materiality or social rewards or to avoid punishment (Weddell et al. 2013
p228). According to Herzberg s motivation theory (1968), intrinsic to work mainly promotes job
content which includes responsibilities, recognition, achievement, the work itself, growth and
advancement, extrinsic, on the other hand, refers to the context of the job which includes pay,
company policy, administrative and so on. It is

The Touch Informative Speech
The Touch
INITIAL THOUGHTS:
There s a thin line between entertaining your audience with a gambling demo, and boring them into
abysmal submission. Personally, I ve always found that when the magician continually wins, the
audience gets tired quickly. Let s face it; no one likes losing! It s human nature.
Therefore, this routine is designed to make your audience believe like they can win every time, no
matter which game you play. Furthermore, the power of this routine is not about the astronomical
odds of receiving a winning hand in a called upon position like so many gambling demos. More
important, it s about empowering someone in your audience with the genuine feeling of having a
Midas like touch for a small period of time.

Simply start overhand shuffling the pack, bringing the Royal Flush stack of cards from the bottom

this insures that you don t disturb your stack. It also guarantees that your audience member receives
the proper cards in the end.
Deal out two hands of five cards, each. Quickly turn over your Poker hand displaying that you
have no more than a pair (sometimes even less). Now your audience member turns their poker
hand over, and proudly shows that they have received a royal flush.
While looking into the audience member s eyes, calmly extend your hand to shake their hand in a

California Songs

Something good songs gave in common is that they have their title in the song. This similarity

popular because of the movie 8 Mile and also because Eminem is one of the most famous

to go the extra mile because he went from nothing to something. A final example is Hurt by
Johnny Cash. This song was originally by Nine Inch Nails but in 2002 Johnny Cash did a cover

Analysis Of Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
Although the author Joseph Conrad never met the German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz,
who died more than a century before Conrad s birth, their distinct philosophies still have numerous
points of intersection, suggesting some fundamental truths within the structure of the human reality.
Through the novella, Heart of Darkness, Conrad details his perspectives on the faults of man and
reality as a whole, with views often coinciding with many of Leibniz s own, as found in his
numerous philosophical works. Consequently, the two perspectives combine together, like a
cyclopean image, to enhance and deepen each of the two men s philosophies on humanity.
Among Leibniz s many conceptual principles is that of perfection vs imperfection, as ... Show more

Consequently, Conrad s narrative and Leibniz s philosophy support one another s contentions in that
every man has the capacity for evil, despite deriving the conclusion from two different means.
Due to man s ability for evil, both Conrad and Leibniz argue that a deterioration of these morals
exist when in penetrating and corrupt circumstances despite the commonality or justice in a
structured civilization. The greatest motive for working in the Congo is the grand opportunity
to obtain ivory. Meeting Kurtz in the Inner Station, Marlow experiences a heavy, mute spell of
wilderness that draws him to the pitiless breast all by the awakening of forgotten and brutal
instincts, by the memory of gratified [...] passions (Conrad 82). Conrad alludes that such force
has caused Kurtz to dwell and reside to savage manners. Although it may seem like only the
powers of darkness assaulted Kurtz, no devil is too much of a devil and it is indeed with the
significant combination of the personal, overwhelming desire for Ivory that lead to his
deterioration. In Opinion on the Principles of Pufendorf , Leibniz believes it is self evident that

The U.S. should prevent Iran from developing or acquiring a bomb as it would pose a specific

International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) through new sanctions against and diplomacy with
Iran. Liberal institutionalism provides the best approach for dealing with security issues regarding

Liberal institutionalism assumes the nature of international system to be cooperative. This theory
argues that despite the anarchic nature of international system, states are willing to communicate
and cooperate with each other for mutual benefit.1 International institutions and norms are crucial
for mitigating hostile tensions between states by creating a platform that allows state to

Manliness Through Camera Angle And Zoom Analysis
The Change in Manliness Through Camera Angle and Zoom By April of 1945, the second
World War was drawing to a close. Nazi Germany was unraveling as the allies were closing in on
Berlin. However, the battle for the Pacific was still raging. The movie Hacksaw Ridge by Mel
Gibson encapsulates the vicious fighting between the Americans and Japanese during the battle of
Okinawa. The movie depicts the struggle Private Desmond Doss (played by Andrew Garfield)
during boot camp, and battle, faced from his fellow soldiers because of his extreme religious
practices. In the middle of the film, during boot camp, we can see that the platoon bully Doss in the
barracks, especially Private Smitty. In this scene, through camera angle and camera zoom, Mel
Gibson encapsulates the discrimination and group mentality of the platoon against Doss. After the
initial assault however, and after Doss single handedly saves seventy or more soldiers, the platoon
waits for Doss to finish his prayer before assaulting Hacksaw Ridge the second time. By showing
this scene, Mel Gibson destroys the connotation that a man is only judged by his physicality and
toughness. By showing that Desmond is the most courageous man in the platoon without being
violent, it shows that religionand self belief is what a man is truly judged on. The first shot of the
barracks invites the audience to see the harassment through Desmond s eyes as he is sitting on his
bed reading his bible. Smitty is hanging in the background,

Good And Evil In Mccarthy s The Road By Mccarthy
In the book The Road by McCarthy, McCarthy dramatizes the opposition between good and evil
however, over all The Road puts forth a positive and uplifting view of humanity. Even though there
are multiple parts throughout the book that focus on very dark and pessimistic themes, McCarthy
has a way of making the reader see darkness and pessimism a positive and uplifting theme.
Scenes in The Road are very graphic and a lot of them put a very vivid image in the reader s head.
Good or bad. Not only do the scenes affect the way you read the book, but they way he makes the
reader work for what they want. While reading this book, there was a scene that described naked
people being held hostage. Huddled against the back wall were naked people, male and female, all
trying to hide, shielding their faces with their hands. On the mattress lay a man with his legs gone
to the hip and the stumps of them blackened and burnt. (110). This line in particular puts a
discrete image in your head of what may be going on in this scene and how the bad guys may be
affecting humanity. After the little boy sees this terrible sight he asks the man We wouldn t ever eat
anybody, would we? (128). The man helps him understand why the people we re being held
hostage, and why they couldn t help them.

How Communication Is Influenced By Varieties Of...
Our communication is influenced by varieties of circumstances and people. However, the most
important thing which affects our communication is our backpack, which means the environment
that we raised in. we carry this backpack every time when we communicate with others, so in this
essay I am going to demonstrate my interpersonal communicationbehavior. First of all, I am going
to demonstrate what about my communication is unique to my specific circumstances. The way of
communication is different when I was talking with Americans and Japanese. Whenever I talk with
Americanpeople, I try to be more open mind. Since I came here in NDSU, I have a lot of
opportunities to communicate with Americans. I realized that Americans are so friendly, so I made
effort to adapt American culture. Instead of that, when I communicate with Japanese people, I will
be more shy. In my experiences, Japanese people tend to do not like the too friendly people at
the first time. Thus, I pay attention to not so be friendly for Japanese during the ice breaker. As
a result, when I communicate with Japanese, I will be like a coconuts. It means that the first
time is unfriendly like the shell of coconuts but the inside is very sweet and flexible. Instead,
when I communicate with American, I am like a peach. The surface of peach is very soft but it has
a hard core, so as a similar as peach, I can be more friendly but it is hard to show people how do I

European Honey Bee Affect Australia s Biodiversity
How has the introduction of the European honey bee by humans to Australia s various wide
ecosystems impacted Australia s biodiversity?
THE EUROPEAN HONEY BEE
The European honey bee (or western honey bee, Apis Mellifera) is a species of bee that naturally
occurs in Europe, but has been introduced by humans to a variety of foreign ecosystems, including
Australia and New Zealand. It is of ecological importance because of the effect that this introduced
species has on the biodiversity of native wildlife, in particular native bees, hollow nesting native
birds and mammals, honeyeater birds and native flora.
Of particular interest is the fact that, despite the risk to native fauna and flora, honey produced by
the European honey bee is a major industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Competition for floral resources
The European honey bee interacts with a wide diversity of flora (over 200) and native Australian
fauna, especially through the sharing of floral resources. These interactions can be harmful to
threatened species if the resources are limited, and due to the degree of how much the honey bee
consumes, relative to the other species.
Honey bees may account for more than half of insects using the flowers of many plant species,
meaning honey bees could remove a large share of the floral resources from Australian plants (and
so compete with native flower visiting fauna). European honey bees remove up to 80% of floral
resources produced from Australian native plants.
Taking southern parts of South Australia as an example, honeybees have been recorded visiting
over 180 native plant species (approximately half of all plant species examined in this time). These
plants ranged from small herbs to large trees and included plants that used wind, insects, birds and
mammals for their pollination.
Another example is the kwongan sandplain areas of WA. Honey bees were recorded visiting 136
native plant species, which accounted for over 30% of the 413 plant species in the

The Construction Of The British Indian Urban Scene
There were cities in India since ancient times which were commonly known for power and trading
activities. villages were self sufficient at that times. So the rate of migration was very low. But due
to degradation in village agrarian system, old chains began to break and process of migration to
cities started in search of livelihoods. The nature of urbanizationprocess changed with the arrival of
the British East India Company. The major contributions of the British to the Indian urban scene
were: the Establishment of three metropolitan port cities of Mumbai (Bombay), Kolkata (Calcutta)
and Chennai (Madras)
Beginning of a chain of hill stations in the Himalayan region and in South India. Eg Shimla, ooty,
Dehradun etc. the modification of the existing cities with the introduction of civil lines and
cantonments. Eg Agra, Meerut etc.
The introduction of railways and modem industry. Eg Dhanbad, Jamshedpur etc. the up gradation in
urban amenities and administration
If we look at the history, the process of urbanization has been associated with other important
economic and social transformations, which have brought greater mobility from one place to
another, longer life expectancy and population aging. Cities are important elements of development
and poverty reduction in both urban and rural areas. As they emphasize on national economic
activity and paved links between rural areas and cities. Urban living viewed as higher levels of

common form is three dots in a triangle burned or tattooed onto the skin is called a dog paw. The
common places you find these is in between the finger and the thumb but they can be found on the
stomach and shoulder also. Bloods rep the number 5, the number five is what they use to identify

bottom of the crown as another identifier.
The crips have most difficult identifiers due to location. The crips represent to the right by tilting

Catalase on Hydrogen Peroxide Essay
Abstract
The aim of this study was to test the rate of reactivity of the enzyme catalase on hydrogen
peroxide while subject to different concentrations of an inhibitor. The hypothesis was that
hydrogen peroxide will be broken down by catalase into hydrogen and oxygen, where a higher
concentration of inhibitor will yield less oxygen, resultant of a lower rate of reaction. Crushed
potato samples of equal weight were placed in hydrogen peroxide solutions of various
temperatures. The results showed that less gas was produced as the concentration of the inhibitor
rose. This Is because more enzymes were inhibited, and so less active sites were available for
reaction.

Planning I will be studying the rate of catalase activity on hydrogen peroxide while varying the
amount of inhibition, which should influence the rate of the reaction, and thus the amount of
oxygen, observed in a given time. The concentration of the inhibitor will therefore be the
independent variable, while the amount of oxygen will be the dependent variable. There should a
smaller volume of oxygen observed as the concentration of the enzyme increases. As I am
comparing two variables to each other, it would be wise to calculate the correlation of the two
variables. To calculate the correlation, I should use Spearman s rank correlation coefficient. To
find a suitable correlation, I should use at least 8 samples. After plotting a scattergraph, I will
proceed to find out the correlation if the correlation looks reasonable enough. Variables
Temperature: Temperature is an extremely important variable to consider, as it can affect the rate
of reaction in a number of ways. If the temperature of a system is increased, more molecules will
reach the activation energy and the rate of reaction will increase. The number of collisions will also
increase. As enzymes must collide with substrates, an increase in temperature and thus kinetic
energy will result in more collisions occurring in a given time. Increasing the temperature will also
increase the heat of the molecules.

The Business Communication Skills That I ll Be Discussing...
The business communication skill that I ll be discussing is writing skills. The reason that I chose
writing skills is because I honestly feel that writing skills are the most important when it comes to
everyday life but more in business. Written communication is important for people success in today
s world.
Writing has been around since the beginning of people and plays an important role in business.
Having good writing skill is important when dealing with business. If the writing quality is poor
when communicating in business it could have a serious negative effect on the company.
Writing starts with a person when they enter school from when they are kids and progress as
they get older. Writing is an activity or skill of marking coherent words on paper and composing
text. When dealing with writing in business it is important to have good quality. Recent studies
on the need for good writing skill the business environment explain why these skills are
important. Whether it s for a job or for a promotion. (Fisher, 2012). Writing skills is mostly
important when making up a resume or filling out an application. Communicating through writing
is important in the today s world and is becoming even more so as we are part of what is now
known as the information age. Now that computers have taken over the world we live in it is
important that people having good quality in their writing. Dr. Hogan explains in an article entitled

I was the vice president of the student body and then president because the president at that time
couldn t fulfill her duties during my 8th grade year. I was in charge of arranging meetings with the
advisor and also with the class officers, organizing events for the school, and bring monthly reports
to the Executive Board of our school. We were required to have 1 meeting a month with the class
officers and advisor. I needed to be able to communicate well with my individual class officers
also have superior leadership skills. I had to have one year of experience, and expertise on how to
run individual class meetings.
2.The Character Award was an opportunity to recognize students, in grades 6th 8th, in our school
who demonstrate exceptional leadership while incorporating life skills like Caring, Honesty,

The Sixth Extinction By Elizabeth Kolbert
In the book The Sixth Extinction written by Elizabeth Kolbert there are a lot of examples that are
going on in the world today and also examples of things that started when the first human being
was around. This book talks about how we are in the sixth mass extinction, and that is caused by
humans. Overall the book goes chapter by chapter and talks about the different mass extinctions
there have been, and how they were caused, but also the book talks about different species that
have gone extinct and the reasons why. For example the book talks about golden frogs that are
located in Panama and how they were seen everywhere located in El Valle de Anton, but they
suddenly started disappearing. They were disappearing because of a chytrid fungis cause by
humans, when humans travel they were bring this fungis to different places, this ended up killing
the frogs (Chapter 1, Kolbert). That is just one example, but throughout the book Kolbert talks
about different extinctions like this and what caused them. There are thirteen chapters in book The
Sixth Extinction, and each one represents something different as the chapters are leading to the
end where she points out that there could be hope. The first chapter in the book is called the Sixth
Extinction and this chapter mainly talks about frogs and that is because they have been around
longer than any other species some say. Frogs have been around for around 400 million years at
least that is when they started crawling out of

The Heart-warming Story of Rain Man
Rain Man is a heart warming and captivating film, based in the 1980s, in America. The plot
revolves around Charlie Babbitt, who discovers after his father s death that he has an autistic
brother, Raymond. The plot revolves around Charlie spontaneously kidnapping him from a mental
hospital and taking his brother on a bizarre journey of self discovery, culture and self awareness,
with the goal of seeking his late father s inheritance. The director, Barry Levinsonwho makes a
cameo as Raymond s psychiatrist is now less famous for writing (as well as directing) political
satire and sci fi films such as Man of the Year, starring Robin Williams and The Bay, featuring
Kether Donohue (Scott, 2012). Whilst tackling serious issues such as mental health, and adding a
little comedy as well, Rain Man has truly left a legacy for the American and global film industry.
One of the fanatically portrayed themes in the film is disability and the way the director uses
minor characters as props to communicate how society perceived disabled people in the 1980s.
For example, a bar maid, Sally suggests that Ray is a very clever boy . This is significant because
she is the only minor character who treats Ray with respect and sympathy, in contrast to Charlie
who evidently abuses it. In addition, the mise en scene comprised of high key lighting and a subtle
wide angle shot creates a somewhat ambient atmosphere (Cinematheque, 2010, p. 1). This therefore
suggests that this is an

The Sustainability Move At Tyson
The earliest sustainability move I found on Tyson happened in 2002 when they created their Tyson
Food Core Values dedicated to keeping integrity and honesty within the company and creating better
communities (Core Values). Tyson is a large corporation having grown a lot over the years and for
their CSR initiatives they have many that deal in different areas from the environment to even
religion (Sustainability). Their CSR programs however different do still agree with the purpose of
their company. Tyson provides many services that all have an effect on communities, the
environment, and even children which is what their CSR strategies focus on (Sustainability). They

Affluent because the Crayola company is within a society that is affluent and well off so they
can afford to implement this initiative. Sustainability comes into play because Crayola as a
company wants to provide a cleaner environment for children and their moms, which are their
main market. Globalization does not have much of a hand in this, but the program did reach
across the country. Media played a role by providing the public with figures and results about the
program and contributed to Crayola s goodwill. Their brand name is now looked on even better
because of the results from their initiative and by their promotion of CSR. Disney Disney has
created a CSR initiative where they join forces with Marvel in order to bring superhero comic
books to young, sick kids in the hospital (Momdjian). They teamed up with CLC, Child Life
Council to bring joy to children in hospitals by doing what they do best, provide them with
entertainment (Momdjian). So far over 400 comic books have been distributed to young children
in North America (Momdjian). Disney also helped support the CLC by giving them a grant of $1.5
million dollars (Momdjian). Reasons for CSR are present with this CSR initiative. Affluence comes
easily to Disney since there are an extremely well known company. Sustainability counts in because
Disney is providing joy to their market and bettering their brand name, however, their program was

Pharmacy Improvement Services at Cvs
The Service Process at (CVS) The process consisted of five basic steps (refer to Figure 1), the
first being the drop off. A customer would drop off a script and write the requested pickup time
on the script itself, then put it in a box that was divided into a number of slots. These slots were
assigned to a specific time period and the tech would put the script into the slot corresponding to
the hour before the desired pickup time. The busiest times at the drop off were before work,
lunchtime, and after work. Regardless of when they dropped them off, more customers wanted to
pick up their filled prescriptions after work than at any other time. The next step would be the data
entry. Each hour, a tech would take the hour s scripts from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The problems with the fulfilment process and recommended changes An Overview The overall
problems faced during the entire pharmacy fulfilment process were that pickup window technicians
dealt with customers who did not get what they were expecting. Based on their analyses and
observations, the PSI team estimated that 16% of customers fell into this category. It was also even
more disturbing that 27% of scripts encountered a substantial problem at some point in the
fulfilment process. It should also be noted that even though CVS grew at market rates, it was only
because customers believed that no one provided great services and they thought it was difficult to
switch from one pharmacy to another. Despite this, at the start of 200, approximately 7.2 million
regular pharmacy customers left CVS during the year, causing CVS to lose an estimated 55 million
annual prescriptions that would have contributed $2.5 billion to revenue. It can therefore be seen
retaining customers should be the main agenda for CVS. This can be done through improvement in
CVS s services and operations. In order to achieve this outcome our group feels that an upgraded
computerized service system, complete with a more comprehensive database would provide the
strong foundations for a smooth business operation. The system should be able to monitor and
record logistics, inventory movements, insurance checks, customer profiles etc. Secondly, training

Carter Racing Case
Carter Racing Case
Situation
Bj Carter and Chris Carter are siblings and business partners. They have to decide to run their
race car in a high stakes race against tougher competition than they have seen all year. The
problem being, their car has failed 7 times out of 24 this season and if it fails in this race, not only
will they be out a $50,000 engine, but they will also be out a full season contract from
Goodstone worth two million per year. If they decide not to race, they will be out $15,000 in
entry fees and for sure lose Goodstone and end up $80,000 in debt on the season. Lastly, if they
race and they do blow and engine, they will lose a sponsorship worth $80,000 from oil company
because they don t want their name on a car that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another problem not addressed is what the temperature at the trace will be at race time because it
will likely be warmer than the 40 degrees it is at 8:23. In my opinion, the second issue of the
newly designed turbo system is likely at fault for the gasket problems. If other racing teams are not
using these new turbo systems and also not having gasket problems, it seems likely this could be
causing too much pressure on the gaskets, causing the failures. If that is the case, they would
have to make the decision to race based on the chance of failure to be 29%. In order for this
problem to be fixed, research would have to be done to find out how they could rebuild the turbo
so that it would not break the gaskets or rebuilding the gaskets so they can with stand the extra
stress from the turbo. This brings about the main constraint in this case, time. Even if they had
better gaskets, they do not have time to replace them in one hour.
Action Plan
In this case, they do not have any alternatives when it comes to making fixes to the car s engine.
Meaning the only alternatives they have are with their sponsors. They have several options as the
race approaches.
Option 1
They could forfeit the race and cut their losses and look long term to how to fix the problem. The

The Usefulness Of Study Of Bank Cost And Efficiency
Comment on the usefulness of study of bank cost and efficiency in evaluating bank performance.
Introduction
From the very beginning of the bank history, we already know that the main operation of bank is to
take loan and to make deposit. Since the first bank established in 12th century, bank is no more a
simple institution where we exchange money but an agency considered to be speculative and
hopeful. There is no doubt that the prosperity in modern society benefits a lot from the
development of commercial activities, where bank plays a main role in. People make money
through work or investment. So they divide their income into two major parts : one part is
considered as profit ,with which people may consume or do reinvestment or put it ... Show more

The main part of supervision including capital adequacy ratio, loan loss reserves, loan centration
and bank liquidity. Those indicators are lines play role like fire alarm for the commercial banks to
watch out the dangerous at any moment.
Except being alert to those highly explored risks, what commercial banks concern about is the
profit. Today, in order to make business more efficient, it is a wise choice for both banks and
other kinds of companies to do financing and list practice. With this important step, banks
acquire more powerful support to develop branches into a wider scale market: running global
business, like HSBC. From the other hand, this can be a unprecedent challenge to the local
banks. The main reason why big companies are successful is they do know how to function the
business skillful. Works are separated into small pieces and more professional staff are hired to
solve special problems. This can be an advantage that local banks lack. Competition makes it clear
that local banks have to find their own advantage to survive in the crucial game.
Other competition from financial institution
Even some big companies start to provide relative banking services. Countless financial derivatives
also consist as a main part in banking.
Although in the textbook the main assumption is without mortgage, which means that it does not

Shoemaker and the Tea Party Essay
Throughout history, historians have spun events in order to alter and adjust others views on the
event. This is especially true during Colonial times and the time leading up the American
Revolution. During this time, information about the colonist s events was passed on through
word of mouth. One such man that was notorious for this was George Robert Twelves Hewes.
Hewes was a Boston shoemaker, who at the age of twenty eight witnessed four of his closest
friends shot to death by The British red coats; he also participated in many of the key events of the
Revolutionary crisis.1 Hewes recollections of the events that took place were passed along in the
monograph The Shoemaker and the Tea Party: Memory and the American Revolutionby Alfred...

He also dragged on with long digressions in order to add to the story.6He biggest mistake was not
knowing enough about the Revolution in order to accurately portray Hewes. This made him portray
Hewes with the same virtues of Benjamin Franklin and a selfless patriot. On a positive note, he
allowed Hewes to add his own feelings and ideas into the bibliography, thus, creating a simplistic
and truthful story. On the contrary, Thatcher embellished and falsified dialogue in order to add to
Hewes s story. He would regularly add anecdotes about Hewes s youth and the revolution that
were more than likely fabricated. Thus, Hatchers portrayal, while fuller than Hawkes s, is also
more flawed. Both authors took an average Joe and made him into a radical figure.
Others have also chosen to alter the character of Hewes, even in a painting. The painting, which
ordered by John Davis, president of the Massachusetts Historical Society and United States
Attorney at law, depicted only one side Hewes. When the painting was finished it was hung in the
Boston Athenaum described as a place of fashionable resort. Although the painting of Hewes was
a nice gesture, it failed to show both sides of the story. He was a vital figure in the events leading
up to the American Revolution but he was also a shoemaker for his entire life, which the portrait
failed to portray. Additionally, the portrait failed to portray the real life characteristics of Hewes.
For example, an indentation in his

Essay On Hyperpectral Sensors
Hyperspectral remote sensing collects spectral images across the electromagnetic spectrum.
Hyperspectral remote sensing detects many more spectral bands than traditional multispectral
remote sensing. Hyperspectral imagers cover the visible, near infrared, short wave infrared and
thermal infrared spectral ranges which are useful for studying vegetation (Schlerf et al, 2012).
Hyperspectral sensors include the Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) and
the EO 1 satellite, both of which are owned and operated by NASA. These sensors have a higher
spectral resolution and are better able to estimate the biophysical characteristics of vegetation than
multispectral sensors such as MODIS and Landsat (Thenkabail et al, 2000). These... Show more

AVIRIS does this by discerning the fractional covers of bare soil, photosynthetic and non
photosynthetic vegetation at a sub pixel level. AVIRIS has high spatial and spectral resolution
that can map fuel materials and improve fire risk assessment, even around the complex urban
/wildland interface (Jia et al, 2006). AVIRIS data is very useful to researchers and land managers,
yet data availability is often a problem. Acquiring AVIRIS data for the exact area and growing
season that a researcher requires is often a challenge (Goetz, 2009). For this reason, hyperspectral
satellite data from the NASA EO 1 mission is more commonly used. The Hyperion hyperspectral
imaging spectrometer is part of the NASA EO 1 mission. The EO 1mission is part of the New
Millennium Program which is a program designed to drastically reduce the cost of satellite remote
sensing while improving the instrumentation quality. The EO 1 platform was launched on
November 24, 2000 and it now contains the Advanced Land Imager and the LEISA Atmospheric
Corrector in addition to the Hyperion Imaging Spectrometer. Hyperion boasts an impressive 10
nanometer spectral resolution and a 30 meter spatial resolution. Hyperion is currently in orbit one
minute behind the Landsat 7 satellite (Pearlman et al, 2001). Hyperion data is often

Another reason for choosing the FE model12 is that it can...
Another reason for choosing the FE model12 is that it can solve the endogeneity problem through
using the FE IV model; the variable GDP per capita used as a proxy of income could be an
endogenous variable. An endogenous variables are variables that correlated with the error term
(ОµаЇњаЇ§ ), while the variables that uncorrelated with the error term are called exogenous
variables. The description of these terms explains that an endogenous variable is determined within
the model itself while an exogenous variable is determined outside the model. To understand the
endogeneity, we will use the classic regression equations that show the relationship between prices
and wages: Price= Яљ0 + Яљ1Wage + ОµаЇњаЇ§ .............................. (11) Wage = Яљ0аЇ” +

As we reject the HВ°, the random effect model will produce biased estimates, so the FE model is
used alternatively. In FE, the П„аЇњ is correlated with the regressor ЬєаЇњаЇ§ . 13 RGDP per capita
is endogenous variable in our model because of reverse causality; the effect between corruption
and RGDP goes in both directions; either RGDP affects corruption or corruption affects RGDP. 19
Chapter 3 Empirical Evidence estimator is biased even in large sample and the FE IV t statistic
and confidence intervals are not true. In this paper, we will use one instrument which is the RGDP
of the great importer in 2000. Here is a description why I choose this instrument. First, a country that
buys most of other country‟s export can definitely increase the GDP of that country, as the
exports will be included in the country‟s GDP calculations. Second, there is no any reason for
the GDP of one country to affect the corruption level of another country, which means; there is no
any correlation between the GDP of great importer and the domestic factors in the country at which
it buys most of its exports. 3.3.3 Regression Results and Discussion Although some of the results in
this paper support that in previous papers, but it shows new other findings. Using FE IV estimation
technique through using the RGDP of great importer as an instrument for RGDP per capita, we
find that, income, political stability and

My Career In Pharmacy
I have decided that I want to pursue a career in pharmacy. It is my final decision. I had said these
two sentences to my parents on a cold night in December 2016. My parents were stunned. They
did not speak at all for about two minutes. I stared into their eyes and could feel my heart racing
loudly. I knew that they probably were upset because I did not fulfill their dream, which was to
be come a medical doctor. I started to remember all the times that I would tell my parents and
sister about the wonderful knowledge I had gained about in biology and chemistry classes in
both high school and college. I was determined to increase my knowledge in these classes and
was ambitious to keep up my good grades as well. Although, in the past few years, my grades
have been dipping. I had transferred from community college to UC Davis and was having a
very rough time. It was hard for me to live away from home, since I did not really experience this
feeling in my whole life. I started to feel stressed and got quite sick in part of the time that I was
in UC Davis. It did take a toll on my grades, but I still was not willing to ruin the rest of my life
because of my grades. I wanted to step out of the darkness and come into the light, and try to steer
my life into the right direction and become a successful woman in the future. Then, after my
reminiscence, my mind suddenly returned back to the present. My mother got up from the couch
and came up to me and put her hand on my shoulder. She

The most successful alternative in this category seems to be GPI, or Genuine Progress Indicator. GPI takes the total dollar value of all goods and services, just as GDP does, but also computes several negative economic effects (including the cost of crime, cost of ozone depletion, etc.) for a more accurate measure of well being. Since GPI includes both positive and negative economic influences, many economists consider it to be a superior measurementto GDP, as GPI s variety of factors are a better determinant of the true well being of a country. People will often run away from their life to create one in which they hope to find more meaning. In Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie, he presents the possible reasons behind abandonment through Tom s attitude, actions, and thoughts. To begin with, the author presents one important reason Tom abandons his family is his attitude towards them. Firstly, Tom is bothered by Amanda when she advices to Tom to get rid of his bad eating habits. However, Tom is annoyed by Amanda s comments and responds with, I haven t enjoyed one bite of this dinner because of your constant directions on how to eat it. • 9. Bear Attack Research Papers Although uncommon, it s not other worldly to be attacked by a black bear in the wilderness. It s hard to say how the body would react in certain situations. Sort of like a plane crash. The flight attendant gives instructions on how to deal with the crash and what the procedure is, but when a plane is really crashing there is a lot more panic involved. The same goes for a bear attack. At the sight of a charging bear, the initial reaction and instinct of a human is to run. Bearsare actually faster than horses and can climb more effectively than squirrels, making running away the worst possible option. When traveling through bear territory, it s best to make lots of noise. This generally startles the bear and sends it into a scurry. When in the face of a bear however, this is the last thing a human should do. In fact, the proper thing to do when a bear attacks is much easier than running; playing dead. It s hard to believe, but playing dead really works. Because bears usually attack humans when they feel threatened, playing dead is the perfect solution. Once the bear believes you are dead, that means the threat is eliminated and the bear will usually move on. Once the bear is at a safe distance, it is ok then to get up and call or go for help. It is imperative, however, that the human must play dead until the bear is long gone. The bear may actually feel more threatened if the human gets up and calls for help too fast. • 10. Criticism Of The Screwtape Letters What a Tragedy! The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a satirical comedy about a demon, Wormwood, who tries to influence the behavior of his patient. The letters are written to Wormwood by his uncle, Screwtape. Wormwood s ultimate goal by influencing the patient s actions is to ensure that he will end up in hell. Though Wormwoodtries his best to excel in every task he is assigned, he usually ends up failing. As a result of Wormwood s failures, Screwtape provides him with helpful advice that comes with criticism. Although Lewis intended for the story to be comical, it should be interpreted as a tragedy. In the beginning of chapter 5, Screwtape is infuriated with Wormwood. Screwtape expected a detailed report from Wormwood on his progress with the patient and instead he received a vague rhapsody because Wormwood was intoxicated. Wormwood is reminded that duty comes before pleasure. This instance is similar to one that Henri Bergson uses in his theory of comedy. Bergson suggest the idea of absentmindedness. He defines this as, when a certain comic effect has its origin in a certain cause, the more natural we regard the cause to be, the more comic shall we find the effect. (Bergson) Most adults would claim that they have had a drink of alcohol before. Drinking alcohol is a natural human feature, that even Jesus partook in. • 12. Why Do You Say Moral I Say Huckleberry Finn You Say Morals , I Say Ethics American author and humorist Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is often labeled the Great American Novel due not only to its tendency towards Realism and its controversial issue of slavery, but also the ethical and moral challenges faced within the book. Huckleberry Finn, as the novel progresses, physically and mentally grows due to the circumstances, decisions, and obstacles he endures; with such experiences come the gain of moral development. However, despite whatever moral maturity Huck undergoes, his ethics remain stagnant. While there is an interchangeable use and common overlap between morals and ethics, they differ greatly and there is an important distinction between the two. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His morals develop as his experiences end up changing his opinions. Many of Huck s original principals evolve particularly his views of death and lying. At first, Huck s grasp of death is merely the concept of death, and one he views as exciting. In chapter two, Huck and Tom Sawyers gang speak and encourage death and violence nonchalantly in fact, the boys order that should anyone desert the gang, their family shall face the consequences of death as compensation of such a betrayal: they said that every boy must have a family or somebody to kill, or else it wouldn t be fair and square for the others...and so I offered them Miss Watson they could kill her (Twain, 8). However, Huck is later so shaken by the horror and death that he witnessed during the Grangerford and Shepherdson murders that he says I ain t a going to tell all that happened it would make me sick again if I was to do that. • 13. Religious Beliefs Of The Catholic Church The Catholic Church s current pope, Pope Francis, once said, A good Catholic meddles in politics, offering the best of himself, so that those who govern can govern. But what is the best that we can offer to those who govern? Prayer! (Pope Francis, 2013). Catholics are approximately half of the number of Christians, numbering more than one billion members. This number makes it one of the largest religions in the world. In 2003, the Catholic population in the United States was 63.4 million people (Roman Catholic Church, 2017). The Catholic Church s basic beliefs influence their demographics, party affiliation, stances on different political issues, and involvement in American politics. I attended a service at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At this service, politics were not directly mentioned, but Father Darin Schmidt said a few interesting words. In a message to the congregation he said, love unconditionally, without limits. He also said, peace, liberty, and justice for all. One might recognize liberty and justice for all from our nation s Pledge of Allegiance, and this quote displays a sense of patriotism in the church. These quotes are helpful in understanding the Catholic Church s ideologies. During prayer, they mentioned a few current issues including support for the military, the Las Vegas shooting, refugees, and victims of natural disasters. Kitty observes Anna s dance with Vronsky, and the feelingthat she will never truly come to understand everything in the way Anna does hits her hard. In comparison to Anna, Kitty is unquestionably a child, and this comes with two thoughts: first, the thought that she is the inferior woman, and second, the realization that she is too inexperienced to be making decisions about such important matters as marriage. She becomes further overwhelmed by the weight of choosing a spouse as it becomes clear to her that her thought that Vronsky ever loved her was completely wrong. As Kitty observes Vronsky and Anna s dance, it hits her that Vronsky has never loved her in the first place. She sees that Anna was drunk with the wine of the rapture she inspired (81) in Vronsky. Vronsky s admiration and obedience is clear as day to Kitty, and she is horrified (81) to see how he loses all her confidence in the face of Anna s beauty. • 17. Little Ships During The Operation Dynamo The role played by the Little Ships during the Operation Dynamo has been heavily mythicized by contemporary accounts of Dunkirk. For instance, a heading in The Times from June 4, 1940 referred to the civilian vessels at Dunkirk as a Magnificent Spirit . Furthermore, the column noted how Fishermen, yachtsmen, yacht builders, yacht clubs, river boatmen responded in Britain s time of need and how the civilian sailors manned their craft with volunteer crews and rushed them to the assembly point . Similarly, another piece from The Times helped illustrate a sense of mass, spontaneous civilian participation by making reference to how the only complaints people had about volunteering their vessels Dunkirkcame from boat owners who could not get themselves onboard in time to go to their boats . Newspapers publishing articles such as the two noted above helped form the public conception of the Little Ships as a mass armada of selfless volunteers who helped rescue countless Allied troops and delivered them to British coastal ports. The Impact Of Remuneration On The Workplace Essay It is universally acknowledged that remuneration is the key to drive the employees to be more productivity, enhance job satisfaction as well as the direction that determines the organizational behaviour of one. In the early 1900s, Taylor (1903) suggested that financial incentives were significant in improving efficiency of workers. However, the role of money has been revealed that it is not the sole factor to improve worker performance, while other factors need to be considered, as such human relations and social networks in the workplace, it is evident that these have become more important nowadays. It is also defined as psychological drives which determine the behaviour, amount of effort put and degree of persistence in the face of obstacles (Kanfer 1990). Motivation contains both intrinsic and extrinsic sources (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). Intrinsically motivated behaviours are driven for self interest whereby extrinsically motivated behaviour is performed to satisfy own materiality or social rewards or to avoid punishment (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). Nazi Germany was unraveling as the allies were closing in on Berlin. However, the battle for the Pacific was still raging. Toby and his mother s search for financial stability and a peaceful life. Toby s family was split down the middle as a child, leaving his father and older brother on the East Coast and, for the most part, uninvolved in Toby s life. The story begins when Toby and his mother, Rosemary, leave her abusive boyfriend in Florida to take their chances at becoming rich on uranium mines in Utah. They are short on money, a theme that continually comes up throughout the book, but full of hope and love for each other. Unfortunately, as they arrive in Utah, they discover the uranium resources have already been bled dry and they must go to Salt Lake... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 34. Good And Evil In Mccarthy s The Road By Mccarthy In the book The Road by McCarthy, McCarthy dramatizes the opposition between good and evil however, over all The Road puts forth a positive and uplifting view of humanity. Even though there are multiple parts throughout the book that focus on very dark and pessimistic themes, McCarthy has a way of making the reader see darkness and pessimism a positive and uplifting theme. Scenes in The Road are very graphic and a lot of them put a very vivid image in the reader s head. Good or bad. Not only do the scenes affect the way you read the book, but they way he makes the reader work for what they want. While reading this book, there was a scene that described naked people being held hostage. Huddled against the back wall were naked people, male and female, all trying to hide, shielding their faces with their hands. On the mattress lay a man with his legs gone to the hip and the stumps of them blackened and burnt. (110). This line in particular puts a discrete image in your head of what may be going on in this scene and how the bad guys may be affecting humanity. After the little boy sees this terrible sight he asks the man We wouldn t ever eat anybody, would we? (128). The man helps him understand why the people we re being held hostage, and why they couldn t help them. Even though some of the negative and evil parts of the book don t have a positive outcome, there are many points where the negative leads to the positive, and even though there has been something bad that ... However, the most important thing which affects our communication is our backpack, which means the environment that we raised in. we carry this backpack every time when we communicate with others, so in this essay I am going to demonstrate my interpersonal communicationbehavior. First of all, I am going to demonstrate what about my communication is unique to my specific circumstances. The way of communication is different when I was talking with Americans and Japanese. Whenever I talk with Americanpeople, I try to be more open mind. Since I came here in NDSU, I have a lot of opportunities to communicate with Americans. I realized that Americans are so friendly, so I made effort to adapt American culture. Instead of that, when I communicate with Japanese people, I will be more shy. In my experiences, Japanese people tend to do not like the too friendly people at the first time. Thus, I pay attention to not so be friendly for Japanese during the ice breaker. As a result, when I communicate with Japanese, I will be like a coconuts. It means that the first time is unfriendly like the shell of coconuts but the inside is very sweet and flexible. Instead, when I communicate with American, I am like a peach. THE EUROPEAN HONEY BEE The European honey bee (or western honey bee, Apis Mellifera) is a species of bee that naturally occurs in Europe, but has been introduced by humans to a variety of foreign ecosystems, including Australia and New Zealand. It is of ecological importance because of the effect that this introduced species has on the biodiversity of native wildlife, in particular native bees, hollow nesting native birds and mammals, honeyeater birds and native flora. Competition for floral resources The European honey bee interacts with a wide diversity of flora (over 200) and native Australian fauna, especially through the sharing of floral resources. These interactions can be harmful to threatened species if the resources are limited, and due to the degree of how much the honey bee consumes, relative to the other species. Honey bees may account for more than half of insects using the flowers of many plant species, meaning honey bees could remove a large share of the floral resources from Australian plants (and so compete with native flower visiting fauna). European honey bees remove up to 80% of floral resources produced from Australian native plants. Taking southern parts of South Australia as an example, honeybees have been recorded visiting over 180 native plant species (approximately half of all plant species examined in this time). These plants ranged from small herbs to large trees and included plants that used wind, insects, birds and mammals for their pollination. Another example is the kwongan sandplain areas of WA. • 40. Catalase on Hydrogen Peroxide Essay Abstract The aim of this study was to test the rate of reactivity of the enzyme catalase on hydrogen peroxide while subject to different concentrations of an inhibitor. The hypothesis was that hydrogen peroxide will be broken down by catalase into hydrogen and oxygen, where a higher concentration of inhibitor will yield less oxygen, resultant of a lower rate of reaction. Crushed potato samples of equal weight were placed in hydrogen peroxide solutions of various temperatures. The results showed that less gas was produced as the concentration of the inhibitor rose. This Is because more enzymes were inhibited, and so less active sites were available for reaction. Reasearch and rationale Hypothesis: Catalase will break down hydrogen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Planning I will be studying the rate of catalase activity on hydrogen peroxide while varying the amount of inhibition, which should influence the rate of the reaction, and thus the amount of oxygen, observed in a given time. The concentration of the inhibitor will therefore be the independent variable, while the amount of oxygen will be the dependent variable. There should a smaller volume of oxygen observed as the concentration of the enzyme increases. As I am comparing two variables to each other, it would be wise to calculate the correlation of the two variables. To calculate the correlation, I should use Spearman s rank correlation coefficient. To find a suitable correlation, I should use at least 8 samples. After plotting a scattergraph, I will proceed to find out the correlation if the correlation looks reasonable enough. Variables Temperature: Temperature is an extremely important variable to consider, as it can affect the rate of reaction in a number of ways. If the temperature of a system is increased, more molecules will reach the activation energy and the rate of reaction will increase. The number of collisions will also increase. As enzymes must collide with substrates, an increase in temperature and thus kinetic energy will result in more collisions occurring in a given time. Increasing the temperature will also increase the heat of the molecules. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The director, Barry Levinsonwho makes a cameo as Raymond s psychiatrist is now less famous for writing (as well as directing) political satire and sci fi films such as Man of the Year, starring Robin Williams and The Bay, featuring Kether Donohue (Scott, 2012). Whilst tackling serious issues such as mental health, and adding a little comedy as well, Rain Man has truly left a legacy for the American and global film industry. One of the fanatically portrayed themes in the film is disability and the way the director uses minor characters as props to communicate how society perceived disabled people in the 1980s. For example, a bar maid, Sally suggests that Ray is a very clever boy . This is significant because she is the only minor character who treats Ray with respect and sympathy, in contrast to Charlie who evidently abuses it. It was also even more disturbing that 27% of scripts encountered a substantial problem at some point in the fulfilment process. It should also be noted that even though CVS grew at market rates, it was only because customers believed that no one provided great services and they thought it was difficult to switch from one pharmacy to another. Despite this, at the start of 200, approximately 7.2 million regular pharmacy customers left CVS during the year, causing CVS to lose an estimated 55 million annual prescriptions that would have contributed $2.5 billion to revenue. This is especially true during Colonial times and the time leading up the American Revolution. During this time, information about the colonist s events was passed on through word of mouth. One such man that was notorious for this was George Robert Twelves Hewes. Hewes was a Boston shoemaker, who at the age of twenty eight witnessed four of his closest friends shot to death by The British red coats; he also participated in many of the key events of the Revolutionary crisis.1 Hewes recollections of the events that took place were passed along in the monograph The Shoemaker and the Tea Party: Memory and the American Revolutionby Alfred... This made him portray Hewes with the same virtues of Benjamin Franklin and a selfless patriot. On a positive note, he allowed Hewes to add his own feelings and ideas into the bibliography, thus, creating a simplistic and truthful story. On the contrary, Thatcher embellished and falsified dialogue in order to add to Hewes s story. He would regularly add anecdotes about Hewes s youth and the revolution that were more than likely fabricated. Thus, Hatchers portrayal, while fuller than Hawkes s, is also more flawed. Both authors took an average Joe and made him into a radical figure. Others have also chosen to alter the character of Hewes, even in a painting. The painting, which ordered by John Davis, president of the Massachusetts Historical Society and United States Attorney at law, depicted only one side Hewes. AVIRIS data is very useful to researchers and land managers, yet data availability is often a problem. Hyperion boasts an impressive 10 nanometer spectral resolution and a 30 meter spatial resolution. Hyperion is currently in orbit one minute behind the Landsat 7 satellite (Pearlman et al, 2001). Hyperion data is often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another reason for choosing the FE model12 is that it can solve the endogeneity problem through using the FE IV model; the variable GDP per capita used as a proxy of income could be an endogenous variable. An endogenous variables are variables that correlated with the error term (ОµаЇњаЇ§ ), while the variables that uncorrelated with the error term are called exogenous variables. The description of these terms explains that an endogenous variable is determined within the model itself while an exogenous variable is determined outside the model. To understand the endogeneity, we will use the classic regression equations that show the relationship between prices and wages: Price= Яљ0 + Яљ1Wage + ОµаЇњаЇ§ .............................. (11) Wage = Яљ0аЇ” + Яљ1аЇ•Price+... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we reject the HВ°, the random effect model will produce biased estimates, so the FE model is used alternatively. In FE, the П„аЇњ is correlated with the regressor ЬєаЇњаЇ§ . 13 RGDP per capita is endogenous variable in our model because of reverse causality; the effect between corruption and RGDP goes in both directions; either RGDP affects corruption or corruption affects RGDP. 19 Chapter 3 Empirical Evidence estimator is biased even in large sample and the FE IV t statistic and confidence intervals are not true. In this paper, we will use one instrument which is the RGDP of the great importer in 2000. Here is a description why I choose this instrument. First, a country that buys most of other country‟s export can definitely increase the GDP of that country, as the exports will be included in the country‟s GDP calculations. Second, there is no any reason for the GDP of one country to affect the corruption level of another country, which means; there is no any correlation between the GDP of great importer and the domestic factors in the country at which it buys most of its exports. 3.3.3 Regression Results and Discussion Although some of the results in this paper support that in previous papers, but it shows new other findings. Using FE IV estimation technique through using the RGDP of great importer as an instrument for RGDP per capita, we find that, income, political stability and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. My Career In Pharmacy I have decided that I want to pursue a career in pharmacy. It is my final decision. I had said these two sentences to my parents on a cold night in December 2016. My parents were stunned. They did not speak at all for about two minutes. I stared into their eyes and could feel my heart racing loudly. I knew that they probably were upset because I did not fulfill their dream, which was to be come a medical doctor. I started to remember all the times that I would tell my parents and sister about the wonderful knowledge I had gained about in biology and chemistry classes in both high school and college. I was determined to increase my knowledge in these classes and was ambitious to keep up my good grades as well. Although, in the past few years, my grades have been dipping. I had transferred from community college to UC Davis and was having a very rough time. It was hard for me to live away from home, since I did not really experience this feeling in my whole life. I started to feel stressed and got quite sick in part of the time that I was in UC Davis. It did take a toll on my grades, but I still was not willing to ruin the rest of my life because of my grades. I wanted to step out of the darkness and come into the light, and try to steer my life into the right direction and become a successful woman in the future. Then, after my reminiscence, my mind suddenly returned back to the present. My mother got up from the couch and came up to me and put her hand on my shoulder. She ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
