2. Science Technology Essay
Science Technology company case
After reviewing the financial forecast from Science Technology Company and Semiconductor
industry market situation, I concluded that 30% annual growth is not feasible, optimistic growth
forecast is 15% .Because world semiconductor shipment kept growing, but not just semiconductor
market but electronic products market was also dominated large market by Japanese manufacturers. If
the company carried on with the same profit/cost structure, the company s ROA would be 5% more or
less in next 5 years, EPS would be 0.44 0.97 and stock price would goes down to less $10 less $20. I
can assume that there is no additional stock issuance. As of 1984, the ROA is 5.6%, EPS 0.57 and
stock price $13 $37.

Major semiconductor market was in Japan (more than 50%). Japanese semiconductor supplier
dominated Japanese market due to its exclusive market structure and started to increased market
shares in US market, but US supplier could not do so.
3. Demands for testers from Semiconductor customer
Higher speed to go into manufacturing a new design products required more testability. To find out
detective/reject before mounting on the board, to spot early production stage and ATE increased its
presence in production. Sales in total ATE $359 (1978) to $1.6billion (1984) 28% /year growth,
expected $4billion in 1988 at 26% compound annual growth rare.
4 .Growth driver
・More semiconductor was built in more electronic products and its shipment kept growing
・Labor rate increase required automate testing operation to reduce labor cost.
・Specialization, work division due to more complexity and high cost to develop semiconductor
device tester
・Improvement of testing technology and tested devices change
・After inflation settled, interest rate decreased and corporate income tax would reduce from 46% to
34% in 1986 to stimulate more investment.
・Semiconductor agreement between Japan and USA due to lobbying and US government put
pressure to Japanese government to open Japanese market.
・National project SEMATECH started to recover the position in semiconductor market.
・Plaza Agreement in 1985 allowed weak US dollar and advantaged export increase.

3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Horror Genre Essay
Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Horror Genre The horror genre has very set conventions and rules and
horror films have stuck to these but in Buffy the vampire slayer a new set of rules are written. Joss
Whedon has given the audience another dimension to horror by subverting the genre, in doing this the
effectiveness of the program is increased.
In the first episode Buffy arrives in Sunnydale, straight away she is under the male gaze but
unconventionally the boy gets hurt looking at Buffy. This continues through out the program with the
roles reversed; now the heroine is the hero. This is the bases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By having a group dynamic this subverts the genre again, as normally it is a lone hero that fights evil.
In many cases it is not just Buffy that fights the vampires but the group work together to plan and
workout the historical facts on many of the characters that they are up against.
In season 2 Buffy and Angel are going out with each other although Buffy is aware he is a vampires.
This relationship shows that the difference between good and evil is very close with many of the evil
characters having human characteristics. The relationship between Buffy and Angel complicates the
genre, as Buffy is as strong as Angel so there is no patriarchy in the relationship.
The use of dreams in Buffy the vampire slayer to show Buffy s conscious fears are very powerful as it
puts a question in the audiences mind that maybe her dreams will come true. The dreams that Buffy
has are that Drusilla has killed Angel, these don t come true but to Buffy they seem very real as she
saw what could happen.
The vampires in Buffy the vampire slayer would conventionally choose the popular kids or people
who have had sex to kill but the genre is subverted because they choose the social outcasts and
virgins.
Later in season 2 Angel kills Miss Calender who is a member of a gypsy tribe whom Angel had
previously killed a member, resulting in the rest of the tribe being killed. As

Death Penalty in Texas Having to execute prisoners in Texas is a critical issue in our criminal justice

6. The Pros And Cons Of Causation
Causation is an act (or omission) by the defendant in breach of a duty he owed the claimant and which
causes harm to a claimant s interest protected by law ; this harm must not be too remote. Causation is
a matter for the jury to decide. Causation is both a question of facts and law. In factual causation, the
defendant s act is necessary to the appearance of the damage: on the balance of probabilities (51%),
the negligent act must have caused the damage but for it, the event would not have occurred. For legal
causation, the claimant must show that the defendant s act made a significant and not trivial
contribution to the result , that the damage was reasonably foreseeable. A new act may break the chain
of causation, where another unforeseeable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The claimant went to the second defendant s hospital to receive an operation which through
negligence blinded him in his right eye. In addition, the claimant developed post traumatic stress
disorder, a specific phobia of Afro Caribbean people with paranoid elaboration and an enduring
personality change. The first defendant was held responsible for the physical injuries and the
psychological trauma, and the hospital would compensate the rest, considering the failed operation did
not obliterate the consequences of the first. Applying Baker v Willoughby, the court found that the
second injury does not supersede the first one, so Arearose remained liable for their breach of duty
towards the claimant. However the hospital was held liable for any increase in harm to Mr Rahman
and would compensate the rest. The damages would be apportioned between the defendants, assessing
their responsibility by reference to the extent to which their negligence had contributed to the claimant

7. Historical Accuracy Of Pompeii
The movie Pompeii is based on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius that destroyed the Roman city of
Pompeii. Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, destroying the city and killing all of its inhabitants. The
movie did do a fairly good job of portraying the correct historical details of what this day in history
would have actually been like.
For the opening of the movie the writings of Pliny the younger, a young man who witnessed the
eruption and wrote about the occurrences of that day, were quoted. Although Pliny had written the
description of the day many years after the eruption, it is the best description on what actually
happened. The producers of the movie also used footage of the actual ruins of Pompeii to help recreate
the city for the set and any green screen footage. By using photos of the ruins they were able to rebuild
the city over the ruins and were able to seek help from archaeologists to ensure that the recreation was

For instance the wife of the mayor was shown as having more power in the business of the city, but
during the times of the Roman Empire she would not have held any real power. Also, the destruction
of the city did not match the real accounts of what had happened in order to dramatize the story more.
In the description left by Pliny, the city would be covered in up to sixteen feet of ash and would have
more molten lava flowing toward the city. In the movie it showed large fireballs flying toward the city
and not as much ash falling over the city. At the end of the movie is where the ash begins to take

8. A Relationship Between Hero And Her Eventual Suitor
In this passage, the reader is exposed to two distinct categories of relationships, one of which being
the relationship between Hero and her eventual suitor which is a type of relationship borne out of
necessity and social conformity. Both Anthony s and Leonato s statements in this passage support this
traditional ideal of marriage and love by dictating to Hero her answer in regards to the impending
proposal from whom Hero s family believes to be Don Pedro rather than granting her the power of
choice. Anthony blatantly assumes that Hero will adhere to the course of action her father wishes
saying, Well, niece, I trust you will be ruled by your father (2.1.42 43). If Hero is being ruled by the
desires of her father, it makes her decision to say yes one of necessity in that she must give the answer
of her father and not that in her own heart for fear of some sort of retribution. Leonato later reinforces
this notion about relationships in stating, Daughter remember what I told you. If the Prince do solicit
you in that kind, you know your answer (2.1.56 57). Alone this statement is somewhat vague leaving it
available to some interpretation, one of which being that Leonato is reassuring Hero that she
discovered the response that best fits her desires in a conversation held offstage and that she should
not second guess herself. However, if this reminder is applied within the context of Anthony s
previous statement it takes on a different meaning that reinforces this

9. My View Of Philosophy Has Changed My Life
It has been a great eight week course and my view of Philosophy has changed a lot. I never took a
class like this and learned a lot not only about various Philosopher s but also about myself. This class
allowed me to look inward at myself and reflect on my decisions throughout my life. Learning about
Thoreau, Socrates, Frankl and Pieper and their view and experiences were fun and made me think
about what Philosophy is and why we need it in our lives.
The reading and discussion that had the most impact on my thinking this term was Thoreau s Walden
in which we discussed the meaning of explore thyself (Thoreau) and enslave oneself (Thoreau) and
the meaning of fulfillment. Thoreau felt that each person s definition of fulfillment was individual.
That one person can feel they lives a fulfilled life by running marathon s and doing iron men
competitions and another would feel the same way by painting or accomplishing a long term goal.
Thoreau was great at expressing himself through words and could pull you into his world and assist
you in understanding his view and feelings. To explore thyself is a process in which you view
yourself, looking inwardly to find out who you want to be in life. There are many safe roads in the
world, you can follow the pack and be standard or you can make decisions and choices that define you
and only you. By understanding yourself you will find what makes you feel fulfilled not by anyone
else standards but by your own. Once one is happy with

11. Final Design For The Ball Sorting Device Essay
Final Design
Our final design for the ball sorting device is composed of 5 primary components: Ramp, separation
device, dome, base, and collection device.
Separation device:
The need for a separation device came to attention as interference between the balls on the ramp as
well as the dome was observed. To avoid interference there needed to be space between the balls. The
separation device is a hollow, circular cylinder with rods inserted horizontally (parallel to the radius
and perpendicular to the height) from one side and out throughout the other, but at different angles,
with vertical spacing between the rods. This would basically function like a pegboard; As the balls fall
into the cylinder they will collide with the road and will fall onto either side of the rod, and continue
falling until they hit another rod. Each time they hit a rod there will be a ½ probability for the balls to
tilt towards either side. A total of of rods were inserted. A cardboard tube was used as the cylinder and
chopsticks as the rods. The materials chosen were cheap, lightweight, and strong enough. This
introduces randomness in the system as well the slowing of the balls falling so that space between the
balls are created. The balls then enter the ramp.
Ramp:
The ramp is the source of energy for the balls. Energy here is in the form of gravity, as the start of the
ramp is elevated to and it provides potential energy using the formula, where m is the mass of the
individual balls provided, h as

14. Rhetorical Analysis Of Kentucky Fried Chicken
Kentucky fried chicken, also known as KFC, have made many commercials over time. This analysis is
on a specific old commercial, sadly of unknown age, but probably from around 1950 1960. The
commercial in question is found on YouTube, and it s made in USA. KFC is a fast food chain that sells
fried chicken, amongst other things, and is especially popular is the US.
To summarize the commercial it starts with a few women being displayed, all thinking about what to
serve for dinner. Luckily Colonel Sanders has the answer, they show a clip from one of the many
KFCs in the country and show the chicken being made. A family then sits down and happily enjoys a

The fact that they have a special price is great, but just putting a picture on the screen is not what we
want to see. As mentioned before, the music is suiting to the commercial, however it hasn t any
excitement to it. In the whole, the clip has an old feel to it, in a negative way. It is an old commercial,
which makes it rather obvious that it will look old, but that part is not appreciated by everyone today.
There are a few things that could be modified to make it better, for example the special price. To make
it more interesting, it should be moving after a few seconds, for instance display someone enjoying the
two for one meal. The ancient feeling is a bit hard to remove without remaking the entire commercial
today, but maybe that s a good thing. This commercial isn t like the rest and perhaps that s what people
like about it. If I received the chance to make some small adjustments I would probably start with
finding them a catchphrase.
To wrap it all up, KFC has really succeeded with this commercial, it s convincing and looks delicious.
There is a slight problem though, I m a vegetarian, therefore I won t buy the product. I also happen to
know the truth behind the meat industry and do not wish to support it. My opinions however, do not
have anything to do with the commercial, and if I wasn t aware of all this, I would probably buy the

The ability of understanding intentions of others is very important for social development of children
(Feinfield, Lee, Flavell, Green, Flavell, 1999). By means of understanding intentions children can
make sense of that people and animates are different from objects (Feinfield, et al., 1999). According
to Shantz (1983), this ability is the requisite to understand morality and responsibility. To understand
plans and planning we also need to have the ability of understanding intentions (Feinfield, et al.,

First of all, the question when children begin to acquire the ability of understanding the intentions was
studied to determine the developmental trajectory of this ability. According to Piaget, children started
to reflect an understanding of intentions in behavior over the age of 7 years of age (Kelly, 2011).
However, more recent studies showed that children could have this understanding earlier. One of these
studies was conducted by Carpenter, Akhtar and Tomasello in 1998. The participants of the study by
Carpenter and her colleagues (1998) are 20 infants aged 14 18 months. In the study, infants are
measured with an implicit measure in which they observed an adult that exhibit two actions on objects
with one of the discriminative cues that was saying either Woops! that refers to accidental actions or
There! that refers to intentional ones. There were three conditions: an intentional action followed by
an accidental one (I A condition), an accidental action followed by an intentional one (A I condition)
and also two intentional actions (I I condition). Each infant participated in each condition twice. It was
hypothesis that infants as young as 14 months would preferably imitate intentional actions over
accidental ones. According to the results, children as young as 14 18 months of age showed the ability
to differentially imitate and distinguish the intentional actions from accidental ones (Carpenter, et al.,

19. The Aspects Of Social Conformity In The 1950s
Conformity in the 1950s America in the 1950s had many social norms that everyone was expected to
follow. If one did not follow those rules they were seen as crazy and often identified as insane. These
social norms were important to follow if one wanted to lead a happy and successful life. To be
successful and happy meant one had to be married, have children, a job that could pay the bills, and a
house. However, what happens after one has everything and is successful according to society? In
Revolutionary Road, Frank and April suffer because they follow society s expectations on what a
happy life should be but even after doing so, they are not truly happy. Men were expected to be the
breadwinners while women were expected to take their place at home as housewives. The Wheelers
kept true to that so that they could be happy and successful. Frank has an office job in New York while
April is a housewife; They have two children and a home in Connecticut. Frank and April are aware of
the standards that one needs to follow to be happy but somehow after they have had to follow those
norms they are not. They both begin to feel trapped and feel like this is what the rest of their lives
would be like. They began to think of ways to escape their lives and thought of ways to bring back
excitement or meaning into their lives.
The life of a man in the 1950s consisted of work and travel to work and home. In the film, Wheeler s
neighbors show us the damage that men had to face when having to work all day. It hinders the
relationship that men had with their wife and children. Frank and April s neighbor, Shep, shows us this
when he tries to talk with his children. He asks them what they are doing and his kids completely
ignore him. He s not there for most of the day and he does not have the time to bond with his family.
Not only is their relationship with their kids damaged but their relationships with their wives. Frank
notices that his life no longer has the adrenaline that it once used to. Frank says to April, I was full of
blood, scared, but full of life . In this scene, Frank explains to April what he felt while he was out at
war. He felt the thrill and adrenaline of something real. He looks for things that would

Giving back hold a high part of my life and special part in my heart. I ve always been told if I can give

activities. With this being instilled in me at a young age, as a grew older I knew to keep this lesson as
moral. I took this with me through all walks of life and with me to Morehouse College. Upon my first
few days on campus, I came into contact with many different people and became involved in a few

college students, is a way to say thank you to those who live and love the community that my

Literature, a body of written works, is something that I sometimes find myself leisurely immersing in.
It allows for the limitations of my own ordinary situations to be seized momentarily whilst I let mind
be free and my own imagination wander. The pursuit of self discovery is present within many forms of
literature and can be told through plots and central characters. I often discover new societal universal
longings that arise from the novels pages which encourages me to reflect on my own sense of self. The
unique interpretations and individual thoughts made by readers allows for a diverse range of reactions

Similarly, Szubanski s recount of her life, Reckoning, speaks to me through her own personal
expedition of self discovery. Throughout the memoir, Magda must come to terms with her past
experiences, makes decisions and draw conclusions about both past and present encounters. She
recounts her expedition of self discovery as being in a flight of confusions and disturbances . At times
I too feel like this, being unable to decipher what I should do in situations as I still discover my sense
of self. Initially Magda was living life as a suburban child, spooked by the experts of her father s
spying activities from wartime Poland Growing up, as I learned more about what my father and his
family had done, this question haunted me. Was I like them? Was I like him? She also had disclosed
recognition of her sexuality. Magda s life becomes complex and drama filled as she reaches adulthood.

Borderline Personality Disorder Three clusters categorize personality disorders; Cluster A, Cluster B,

dramatic, emotional, and erratic disorders. Females and males are almost equally diagnosed with this
personality disorder. BPD doesn t favor one gender over the other because both males and females
struggle with aspects in this cluster equally. Borderline Personality Disorder focuses on the instability
of self image, relationships, and impulses as well as the consequences that may follow. Furthermore,

Impulses are a natural reaction that is almost instinctual. These impulses bleed into your self image. If
an impulse is self mutilation, then self image will weaken. Consequently, when self image weakens, so
will any relationships. These impulses can seem inevitable and leave a person feeling helpless. Others
will deem a person with BPD as hopeless because they cannot rewire their brains. Someone with BPD
believes that they deserve any punishment that they receive or give themselves (Barlow, 416). This
stems curiosity on how and/or why these mindsets develop. With a child abuse history or history of
maltreatment, a child can develop BPD. The Mayo Clinic provides studies that prove genetics and
brain abnormalities may play a role. Research on brain abnormalities show alterations in parts of the
brain that control emotion regulation, impulsivity, and aggression (The Mayo Clinic, 2015). Abuse of

23. Native American Racism
Native American racism has long been going on in the United States and is still prevalent to this day.
The actions on the part of the people and government of the United States against the Native
Americans has had a lasting effect on Native Americans. From the beginnings of the the United States,
the U.S. government has pushed Native Americans off of their land to make way for white settlers and
manifest destiny. The reservations that Native Americans were pushed onto have some of the lowest
living conditions in the country and have high rates of poverty and unemployment. Over a span of just
under one hundred years, the U.S. government pushed many Native American children into boarding
schools and assimilation programs. These assimilation programs effectively slowed down the passing
down of generational customs because the children were forced to adopt the new customs that the
government wanted them to adopt. Children s books commonly have stereotypes against Native
Americans that warp young children s perceptions of that particular group of people. Many sports
teams across the country have Native American mascots and team names. These mascots are
insensitive and contain offensive stereotypes that hurt people s perceptions of Native Americans. For
some, these are the only examples of Native Americans that they ever see, further damaging their
outlook on Native American perspectives. It is important for the citizens of the United States to learn

24. Abortion Literature Review
III. Literature Review:
Historical Background: Prior to the 1900s, abortion was not regulated in the United States. With the
rise of the medical profession and increasing immigrant population, doctors became more interested in
the reproductive health care process. The American Medical Association (AMA) began to advocate for
the criminalization of abortion, stating the need to protect women from the dangerous chemicals used
to induce abortion (Solinger, 2015). However, amongst members of the AMA, it was known that the
criminalization of abortion would work to correct declining white birth rates. Rickie Solinger (2015)
states:
Advocates of criminalization also stressed society s obligation to halt the declining birthrate among
white Americans. And many stressed the need to protect the sanctity of motherhood and the chastity of
white women; abortion, after all, supported the separation of sexual intercourse from reproduction.
For many physicians and others, all of these concerns were generally more trenchant in the nineteenth
century than the issue of fetal life. (Solinger, 2015, pg. 5).
The replacement for abortion was sterilization, which allowed for the control of groups seen as
undesirable (Solinger, 2015). Undesirable groups were decided by those in power, such as the
government, and ultimately subjected minorities, those with mental illnesses and disabilities, and the
poor to forced sterilization (Solinger, 2015). This continued until 1973, when the Supreme Court

Within the scope of studying high school and college level subject areas, my choices among the
techniques would be represented in the methods which are described within state dependent memory
and within order effects. Consequently, rarely is the material that is studied grouped into certain
categories beyond how it is originally presented, nor is the material digested with the use of additional
aids. The most preferred methods seem to relate more with my state of consciousness. When studying
or preparing prior to a test, most definitely I will have consumed some form of caffeine. Although
wishing to be well rested, my time management and lifestyle does not always allow for this luxury.
While studying, the preference is to be within a specific environment, avoiding too many external
distractions. Even so, listening to my favorite music through my headphones, lifts my mood and
provides me the focus needed. Lastly, I enjoy being quizzed with virtual flashcards while walking
outdoors, which combines order effects technique with a state dependent method. Unfortunately, it
may not be the purest form of a state dependent method, since for example, exams are not given while
walking through a park.
Effectiveness of my personal study habits. Without controls and specific conditions, that appear
crucial to support effectiveness with any of these retention methods, it is hard to assert my preferred
choice as effective or ineffective with learning in general. With confidence, I can state that I succeeded
to achieve my desired outcome. I have been maintaining an A average majority of my educational
career. I have experienced considerable success in more recent years when I have incorporated several
of techniques mentioned above.

benefit underprivileged youth. In fact, this school is still in operation today and was originally opened
on November 15, 1909. Another way Hershey impacted the lives of many was through the building of
Hersheypark. This amusement park was established in 1907 and, like the school, is still in operation
today. On the other hand Hershey s Chocolate also left a huge impact on the entire nation and the
world and continues to be successful today. Evidently, his chocolate was innovating at the time
because it allowed more people to be able to afford chocolate, not just the wealthy. Furthermore
Milton Hershey s legacy would later impact the lives of a great deal of individuals in a positive
manner. If Milton Hershey had not lived, many youth and various families would not have the
opportunities that for a better life and pleasure.
In 1903, even before the chocolate factory was completed, Milton Hershey set aside a place for a park
to be built for his employee s for picnics and family outings. That is because Hershey wanted to build
a park as a pleasant environment for his workers and their families. Later, the space was used to build
Hershey Park. Construction on the park began in 1905 when a dance hall was built, and then a theater

Introduction
The topic of this report will contain information gathered about graphics programming. Specifically
using the programming language, C# (pronounced C Sharp). C# is used by many programmers and it
is a modern and simple programming language and a perfect language that develops applications with
graphical capabilities.
Graphics in programming plays an important part in any C# application that is being developed. For
example, if you are developing an Image application, you may want to use Bitmaps, which is a
representation of a picture using pixels on a window. This is only one example of the many
possibilities of using graphics in C#. So I can assume that you will have prior knowledge and
experience of the C# Language as I will be focusing on four specific classes for working with graphics
that include the PictureBox Class, Image Class, Bitmap Class and Graphics Class.
A class can be defined as a blueprint for a type of object. It consists of methods and variables. In .net
windows forms namespace, it already includes a number of classes for developing graphical
applications. One way to access these Graphical capabilities you ll need to use the System.Drawing
namespace, this will give you access to Graphics Device Interface (GDI). GDI is essentially a
Microsoft Windows API that produces and runs graphical components and outputs these components
on to peripherals like your monitor and printers ( Windows GDI, n.d). There is not much theory

31. The Court Of A Bench Trial Essay
Our judicial system works hard every day to uphold the rule of law. Whether you are sitting in on a
case, watching Court TV, watching legal based movies, or whatever it may be, you notice that there
are different parties and people involved in the whole charade. There are different jobs within our
court system that coincide with each other to keep our courts strong and orderly. These jobs include:
judge, bailiff, stenographer, jury, clerk, and prosecuting attorney. These different jobs have specific
duties that help the court system thrive. Judges decide on the verdict if there is a bench trial. A bench
trial is a trial by a judge as opposed to a trial by jury (Reuter, 2016). In a bench trial, the judge is an
unbiased third party advocate for justice. He or she determines the appropriate punishment and
sentence those convicted of crimes (Reuter, 2016). A judge takes on a couple of roles in a bench trial
such as, that of the referee who rules on the admissibility of evidence and decides questions of law,
and that of the finder of fact which ultimately determines how much weight to give the testimony of
different witnesses and the credibility of the evidence (American Bar Association, n.d.). Some cases
must be handled by a judge in a bench trial. A federal judge who presides may be an Article III, Judge
or a Magistrate Judge (Gray,Ritter, Graham, P.C., 2015). An Article III, Judge is a judge of the United

Set at the extremity of the striking San Gorgonio and San Jacinto Mountains, the Morongo Indian
Reservation extends more than 35,000 acres and overlooks the desert vistas of the Banning Pass. Wild
buckwheat, mesquite and chaparral still flourish here, and the ubiquitous breeze ensures that the air is
always fresh and clear.
One of the inborn names of the Morongo Reservation was Malki, and it was located in what was once
called the Wanikik territory. In the mid 19th century, the Serrano people to the north began journeying
to the Malki settlement. They brought with them the Morongo name derivative from the Serrano name
for their people, Maringayam. Since the late 19th century, the Morongo Reservation has been tenanted
by a mix of Cahuilla, Serrano, Luiseno and Cupeno people.
Irrepressible and ingenious, the Morongo tribe has overcome many hardships. The Morongo
Reservation was one of nine small reservations set aside by President Grant by Executive Order in
1865. The lands taken into trust by the federal government did not include land with access to surface
water. Accordingly, tribal members had to travel miles each day just to acquire water and to forage for
food. Through their industriousness and capability to survive in an unstable physical and political
environment, the Morongo tribe began a small bingo venture in 1983.

Furthermore Gee suggests that in order to follow the intended guidelines correct discourse must say or
write the right thing in the right way while playing the right social role. (pg.6) Indeed, within my

these roles as Gee suggests, within secondary discourse establish the characteristics of dominant and
non dominant discourse. Gee explains that dominant discourse requires a level of mastery of which, at
a particular place and time, brings with it the potential acquisition of social goods (pg.8) Contrary to
dominant discourse, non dominant discourse entails the mastery of which often brings solidarity with

36. Plato s Views On The Virtue Of The Virtues Essay
As far as I am concerned, the result is that I know nothing, for when I don t know what justice is, I ll
hardly know whether it is a kind of virtue or not, or whether a person who has it is happy or unhappy
(Republic 354c)
Plato presents Socrates as believing in the unity of the virtues, skeptical of those who, like Meno, wish
to treat the virtues as distinct objects of inquiry in dialogues such as Laches, Protagoras, Meno, the
Republic, and Euthyphro. These dialogues provide good reason to deny that Plato s Socrates believed
in the numerical identity of the virtues. I shall argue that in the various virtues is one essence (or virtue
), as revealed in a conceptual search for definitional clarity and a metaphysical appeal to Form that
encompasses innumerous virtues.
I.
For Socrates, an adequate definition will reveal the common quality that belongs to both all and only;
and necessarily and sufficiently, instances of the virtue that is being defined. In Euthyphro, Socrates
addresses these definitional issues by criticizing the paradox presented in the dialogue as follows: And
so Euthyphro, when you re asked what the pious is, it looks as though you don t want to reveal its
being to me, but rather to tell me one of its affections that this happens to the pious, that its loved by
all the gods (Euthyphro 11a). The term being here I will interpret as essence, the more commonly

37. Essay On Intolerance In The Crucible
When facing change in society, people tend to become less tolerant and more intolerant. It is human
instinct to fear those who are different and could cause a threat to society. This behavior was
essentially demonstrated in The Crucible. When the Puritans faced change and felt a danger to their
society they became increasingly intolerant of those who were against their strict Puritan beliefs. Even
to this day, there are still those who are intolerant of others. Many of those in power have not learned
from their mistakes, but rather commit the same ones their predecessors have made. The Puritan

At the start of the play Hale was totally pro witch trials, but as the trials progressed he began to see the
big, ugly face of intolerance that was rearing its head. Once he saw this he distanced himself from the
court by quitting it (Miller 521 524). The modern day version of this is all too common today. Many
people, politicians, and businessmen get involved in groups that they are all for when they join them.
Once these groups take a turn for the worse either because of their narrow mindedness or intolerance
these people leave them. Simply condemning these groups and thoughts does not go far enough. In
order to truly combat them they must be dealt with. Hale and the people of Salem did not go far
enough to deal with the Salem Witch Trials and as a result many innocent lives were lost. The problem
with intolerance and narrow mindedness is that it tends to be deeply rooted into a person s beliefs.
Judge Danforth is a paragon for narrow mindedness in The Crucible. He demonstrates this narrow
mindedness on numerous occasions. When he is given definite proof that Abigail is lying about her
accusations, he ignores them and calls John Proctor a liar. Another example of this narrow mindedness
was when his court was considered questionable by Reverend Hale. Hearing this accusation, Danforth
swiftly reacts and reaffirms his beliefs in the authority of the court and denies any wrongdoing (521
531). Through this

39. Summary Of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
Set apart from the parameters of normal human society, Benjamin Button, a man who was born to age
backwards, falls in love with a young girl, Daisy, who ages forwards. Benjamin s story is read aloud to
Daisy by Caroline, her daughter, as she lay on her deathbed. In scenes set with peculiar curiosity and
subtle fantasy, Benjamin embarks on an unusual journey to grasp the meaning of life and find his own
sense of identity. Benjamin and Daisy s paths cross many times before their unorthodox romance
reaches fate and picks up in the middle. As he grows younger and Daisy slows with age, Benjamin
discovers the rich futility of love as time causes the two to fall out of sync once again. Although its
final plot ends like any other love story, David Fincher s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is
arguably the next great cinematic breakthrough with its unique emotional paradoxes, ingenuitive
digital effects, and complex subplots. This movie was challenging to evaluate because never before
has a film combined subplot ingenuity so seamlessly with the delicate techniques of innovative film
making and traditional cinematic endings. One of the most relevant criteria of the film is the presence
of unique emotional paradoxes. The lead character Benjamin Button, actor Brad Pitt, faces many
unique emotional obstacles as he ages completely opposite of the world around him. When he is a
young boy, Button takes on the appearance of an eighty year old man in a wheelchair unable to walk.

40. Descriptive Essay On The House
The back door of the moving truck slammed shut, making me slightly jump gasping in surprise. I
turned in my seat and look at the house, I ve lived my whole life in. Gloomily I stare remembering all
the happy and sad times I ve had here. come on Kate stop thinking such sad thoughts the new house is
going to be great, I said clapping my hands over my face. The cab driver turned the ignition key, and
the cab rumbled to life. We start rolling forward down the street behind the moving truck. Watching
the houses move past me slowly lulling me to sleep. I close my eyes slipping into the comfort of sleep.
HEY wake up we re almost there the cab driver halfway yelled in his gruff voice. I pop up looking
curiously around me. My face crumples up in concern. I look out the window and I see no houses.
Then, suddenly I see in the distance two houses, one on either side of the street. We pull up to the
houses and the cab pulled into the driveway of one of the house. The moving truck stops on the side of
the road I get out of the cab. I stared unbelievably at the house that we stopped at. I walk inside and
look around. The house is already furnished. The furniture is clean and looks like it hasn t ever been
used. By the time I get outside to help get boxes from the moving truck. The taxi, truck, and all the
people are gone, leaving the few boxes of my stuff in the driveway. I carry the small boxes into my
bedroom. Starting to organize my stuff I hear what I believe to be the doorbell.
