The Digital Age Essay
The Digital Age
The digital age is staring us in the face from the near future. We already see countless instances of
digital technology emerging more and more in our every day lives. Cell phones are equipped with
voice recognition software, and are able to take photographs and send them wirelessly across the
globe, almost instantaneously. When information is captured and transmitted into a digital format,
possibilities for that data become endless. Soon we will no longer be inconvenienced with reality;
all of our sensory shopping experiences will be converted to digital information and will be fed to
us through our computers. Digital information is in a much more malleable format. It can easily be
duplicated, changed, or processed...show more content...
The information created will be able to be shared by anyone with a computer. The power base that
the digital age relies on for existence, is technology. The rapid developing technology is absolutely
necessary for the digital age to exist. Without super powerful microchips, and high bandwidth
transfer wires, the digital age would be a figment of our imagination. Digital technology is computer
based, so the millions of calculations per second, and ability to transfer large amounts of data over
long distances are absolutely necessary. Without computers, the data might be collected; but there
would be nothing to process and transfer the information.
When new technology is invented, it is sometimes distributed to a society that might not be ready
for it. Few corporations consider this and are only interested in spreading their product to the
consumer as soon as possible. New technology is often flawed and taken advantage of by
individuals who know how to manipulate it. This is a considerably large problem when dealing with
digital technology. Digital information is not a three dimension tangible object. So it is easily
tampered with and destroyed without people noticing. When the damage is finally noticed, the party
responsible is usually untraceable and in a completely different area of the world to begin with.
The potential value of this new technology seems almost

Thesis For Nosferatu
Rhetorical Outline
Proposition: The film Nosferatu was a key step in establishing the modern standard of the vampire
as an icon of horror.
Audience: Persons with a high level of interest in the history and development of film, specifically
vampire or German Expressionist film. The book discusses how Nosferatu is an important milestone
in cinematic history for its pioneering in both the creation of the "vampire" icon and its use of
cutting–edge film techniques, so people with an advanced interest in the history of film would find
this book appealing. Additionally, it holds a lot of important analysis for students required to study
Nosferatu, and provides insight to the significance of the film that they would not have otherwise
had.
Genre: Scholarly...show more content...
She discusses how Weimar Cinema came to be and how it did so well financially, moves onto the
introduction of Expressionism into film from its origin in theater and painting, and finally describes
the characteristics of Expressionism in Cinema as opposed to other artforms. From there, she
discusses how the various members of the Prana cinema team came together and how their
expertise contributed to the movie, how they prepared the masses for Nosferatu, and how they
presented the movie. However, she provides the counterpoint of how Florence Stoker's lawsuit
against the Prana film company damaged the movie's reputation and popularity. From there she
describes how the plot of Nosferatu follows the pattern established by Noel Carroll in Philosophy
of Horror of an onset phase, a discovery phase, a confirmation phase, and a confrontation phase. As
the chapter progresses, Massaccesi's description of the plot includes lengthy and in–depth analyses of
each character in terms of their interactions with each other and with the setting(s). From there she
considers the significance of various aspects of the film in relation to the film's events and
characters, such as camera angles and symbolic imagery, She also discusses the significance of other
aspects of the film in relation to the sociopolitical situation in Germany and Europe as a whole,
applying themes such as the defeat of a tyrannical villain figure or the supernatural wonder
associated with Romantic artwork.
Rhetorical Strategies: Massaccesi uses a more expository and frank structure, opting to be very
informative and direct with the content of her book. In every section of the chapters, she has a very
clear pattern of making a claim, providing an example, and connecting the two via

Essay on Volcanoes
Volcanoes
Volcanoes are natural phenomena which are on the Earth's surface through which molten rock and
gases escape from below the surface (Tarbuck, 139). These volcanoes are very interesting to
observe and to study because of their amazing occurrences and majestic lava eruptions. Volcanoes
have been studied ever since the beginning of mankind and the word "volcano" is thought to be
derived from Vulcano, a volcanic island in the Aeolian Islands of Italy whose name in turn
originates from Vulcan, the name of a god of fire in Roman mythology. Consisting of several types,
volcanoes can extrude several forms of magma and can also release multiple gases. These extruded
materials can affect the Earth's structure and atmosphere.
There are...show more content...
Last but not least, composite volcanoes also make up some of the earth's surface. Composite
volcanoes have a conical shape, with a steep summit area and gradually sloping flanks, and are
nearly symmetrical in structure (Tarbuck, 141). These volcanoes release silica–rich and gaseous
magma that is highly viscous and travels very short distances. These three types of volcanoes that
occupy the earth have seemingly different physical characteristics and behavioral changes.
A volcanic eruption is one of the most dangerous and eventful natural disasters that can take place.
During these eruptions, several factors are taken into account. Each type of volcano discussed above
has a different form of lava: one's might be highly fluid and the other might be very viscous. Lava
can take many shapes as it is extruded from a volcano. One such form is that of pahoehoe.
Usually common on the Hawaiian volcanoes, pahoehoe is a form of lava which is smooth and
ropy and causes by the congealment of lava as it is released from the volcano (Williams, 32).
Another form of lava is one that is named aa. This lava consists of jumbles of rough, clinkery, and
spinose fragments, ranging from small chips to blocks measuring meters on a side (Williams, 37).
Aa flows are cool and thick and can advance at rates between 5 and 50 meters per hour (Tarbuck,
145). Lava can also take a block formation

How Technology Affects Our Lives
Have you ever wondered how much different life would be without the continued study and
advancement in technology? A lot of conveniences that we now know and cannot imagine living
without make our lives easier and more comfortable. Technology is helping the world stay
connected and grow at an alarming rate. Today technology is being used in ways that were not
imaginable thirty to forty years ago. Technology is now being used to make advances in the field
of medicine, fine better ways to produce clean energy, and needless to say it creating a more

and we are seeing the changes of technology on a more rapid pace. The change technology has
bought to society has not only effected the way we communicate, but it also effects the way we
learn. Today learning is made easier, more convenient, and more attainable that ever before. With
tools such as the computers, notebooks, and tablets (desktop and laptop computers) with internet
access and different forms of software, people today have unlimited information at their fingertips at
any given time of the day. Learning never has to stop when technology is only a second a way. An
individual no longer has to spend countless hours at the library to do research, they can simply log
onto the internet. Technology has made and is continuing to make learning more fun to many
individuals, encouraging them to further pursue learning opportunities. Technology not only helps
up learn and make learning more convenient for those of us with busy lives but it also influences the
way we live; and I mean this in the most literal way. Technological advances throughout history have

Life is a Struggle Essay examples
Life is something that requires a considerable amount of physical and mental effort. Some are
fortunate enough to have everything prepared for them. Such as some are born into money;
some come across good fortune yet most work hard from the start to get some where in the world.
It just all depends on how you were brought into this world. For some people, life is full of stress
and hardships. That's how life was for someone very dear to me. He had it difficult from the start.
However he chose not to let life get him down. When life gave him lemons, he made lemonade.

family with him, he moved to America, Anderson, South Carolina to be exact. Since his masters
originated from the UAE, it has little value in the US. His options were to either get a job or go
to college. Thinking of his family, and how he needed to support them, this man decided to obtain
a job at a jewelry store at the mall in Anderson. There he worked for two years as an employee
until he was finally given the chance to operate the store himself. From there, over the course of
four years, this man owned jewelry store all across South Carolina. He was given an opportunity
to expand into other businesses and he embraced it with open arms. Soon his business had
reached New York, California, Florida, and Georgia. Life once again was peaceful until the
jewelry business plummeted. He sold all his stores and moved to Georgia. Now he had nothing to
his name. So again, like before, he started anew. With a store opened in one year to four more over
the course of three years. With the experience he had gained in life, he was able to start over from
scratch. From the time he was born, this man had nothing to his name. No money, no

Peak Hour Essay
Stressed, left eye twitching, shouting at inanimate objects? Eighty three percent of all Canadian
drivers find peak hour traffic more stressful than work. That means sitting in traffic is worse than
sitting through your boss's PowerPoint presentation. Everybody has their own personal traffic
nightmare, whether it's a massive backup, or perhaps, those screaming kids in the back. However,
there is a way to calm your seething road rage and keep cool through the frustrating gridlock. If you
find yourself in one of these situations the first thing to do in order to calm yourself down is to
embrace the fact that you are stuck in a gridlock. You are going to be there for a while, you might

running out of gas by using the air conditioner. In milder weather keep windows open to get fresh air
which is soothing. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing whiledriving. Avoid wearing clothes which
are too tight and restrictive. Keep a pair of shoes in the car for driving through traffic and make
sure to change into those as soon as you start out driving. Opt for a seat cushion or back rest to
further make yourself more relaxed during traffic periods throughout the day. Joe Brown, editor in
chief of tech blog Gizmodo, indicates that the best thing to do during a traffic jam is to stay in the
slow lane, because if you are trying to hurry, you are never going to win. So stay in the right lane, let
everybody else pass you, let everybody else stress out , just take your time and make a great day of it.

Equally important to the characteristics of a mentally healthy individual, in today's fast–paced

Many prominent theorists have argued that perceptions of the self, the world, and the future are
essential for mental health. Yet much research evidence suggests that overly positive
self–evaluations, exaggerated perceptions of control or mastery, and unrealistic optimism are
characteristics of normal human thought. Moreover, these illusions seem to promote other criteria
of mental health, including, the ability to care about others, be happy or contented, and to engage in
productive and creative work. (Taylor & Brown 1988,

Essay Expository on Love
Love! Not For Everyone
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love
has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be
measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it– self has been
experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of
character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend's mom. What is love?
A choice that people make by putting their partner's wishes, desires and needs above everything else.

The speaker loves her husband so much that she is willing to meet him no matter what the distance
between them might be. Love is the constant care and affection that is needed to flourish and bloom
into great beauty.
Love is the commitment that two people share. Jarold Ramsey's poem "The Tally Stick" is a great
example of the commitment that two people share. The speaker says, "Here from the start, from
our first days, look: / I have carved our lives in secret on this stick" (1–2). Starting with their
marriage, the first notch is "Near the butt, this intricate notch where the grains / converge and join: it
is our wedding" (6–7). The couple uses the stick as a symbol of their love for each other. The stick
symbolizes how committed they are in their relationship. Love is a commitment one makes to put
someone's wishes, desires and needs above all. What if the husband or wife became ill or cannot
take care of him or herself anymore? Or perhaps the spouse got orders to go to Iraq, or maybe the
spouse got a job offer in another state. What will happen to the life that is shared? Does the
spouse give up and move on? No! The spouse's love and commitment will keep them together even
if they are far away, or moving to another state, or becomes ill. Because love is unconditional,
spouses can endure all hardships that cross their path. Love is an infatuation between two people
and the desire to be desired. To be

Expository Writing Rough Draft
Everything Wrong With School In 10 Minutes or Less!
When I was twelve, I had no appreciation for school. I saw it as nothing more as a glorified
daycare center with all the rules and regulations specifically designed to restrict as much fun as
possible. Then one day in the ninth grade, I had a revelation: what if school was actually meant to
build me up with knowledge and facts and not just waste my time? This was the foundation I
needed to get me through the next four years. Whenever I was bored, I would remind myself that I
'd never have a "free" education like this again. I adapted particularly well to this system of tests,
quizzes, and science labs but I could never understand the hang up some people had with it. School
was basic and easy and all it seemed to require was consistency an+d proper scheduling. I looked at
people who couldn 't understand US History or Geometry and I thought they were dumb. It wasn 't
until much later with much more reflection that I came to conclude there 's a difference between
how you score on the SATs and how smart you actually are. Education isn 't necessarily a direct line
to becoming intelligent and knowledgeable; education is nothing more than an institution designed
to equip people with subsets of specialized processing methodologies, algorithms, and a fair bit of
esoteric trivia. Furthermore, the current educational system in place is inefficient because of its rigid
nature.

Reflective Essay
I have been taking Expository Writing for 4 months. I have found that I need to be able to
communicate myself in writing. I must relay exactly what I'm trying to put forth to others and
convey the right message of understanding. I must be able to explain myself, negotiate, and work
in teams. My language skills can be worked on and improved. I need to be able to pick up the
language of whatever environment I'm in whether it be at work or school, or in society. Since
everyone does not have the same background, learning how to write the written word is important
in any environment. I have learned how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and
how to find answers to things I do not know. Most important I have learned how to believe in my
writing.
I was very hesitant in taking this English class, I have not taken an English class in many years.
When I took the placement test for reading and English, I tested out of all categories. I was proud
of myself for that feat. When I found I was going to have to take a college level English class, I
avoided it at all costs. Too much pressure. However, I have learned about the Rhetorical Essay
was to understand how an author writes and not focus on what the content is. Knowing the
explanation of what techniques and author uses to make their point come across to the intended
audience. I learned about Argumentative Research Paper is to debate both sides of an issue. The
intent is to be unbiased and state the facts on either side. I learned about Public Piece with
Presentation is meant to deliver an effective presentation to engage your audience. Your audience
listens to not only what you are saying but your visual engagement in the topic being presented.
Also, the point of the class is to be able to work with others to achieve a desired outcome or task.
To know that I can work with others in a cohesive environment to draw on everyone's input and
views. This will assist me in the real work of life and assist in handling many types of people and
myself in communicating.
I have never been a good writer; however, I have learned that communication is not the same when
writing. Having a conversation about aliens

International Students Essay example
Differences between American Students and International Students Most young people believe that
studying in a different country is a privilege because they are able to experience other cultures, and
learn from them. However, in the United States it is not as good as they thought because
International students have much more pressure being in this country, and sometimes they cannot
handle it very well. Therefore, in the United States the life of an international student is very
unfavorable if people compare it to the life of an American student. International students have to

problem participating in class. They have confidence in themselves, so they will not be afraid of
saying something wrong. Consequently, because American students do not have to learn any
language to study their mayor, it is much easier for them to achieve excellent grades. Most
university students feel the necessity of working since they would like to have their own money
in order to be independent from their parents. It is not the exception for International students
because they also feel the necessity of working to be independent from their parents or whoever is
responsible for them. However, for international students to work in the United States it is very
difficult because they are only allowed to work on campus. These kinds of jobs are very limited
since some of the campuses in which they study are very small. Also for an international student to
find a job on campus is difficult because people prefer to employee an American student who is
not going to have any problem speaking the language. For example, last semester a friend from
Venezuela who is studying at Miami Dade College decided that he wanted to get a job in order to
have his own money. He went to

HIV and AIDS Essay
HIV is the human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS. A member of a group of viruses

body's immune system breaks down and is unable to fight off certain infections, known as
"opportunistic infections," and other illnesses that take advantage of a weakened immune system.
When a person is infected with HIV, the virus enters the body and lives and multiplies primarily in

U.S., nearly one million people have HIV infection or AIDS, or roughly one out of every 250

that half of all people with HIV in the U.S. have not been tested and do not know they are carrying
the virus.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, AIDS has killed more than 30 million people worldwide,
including more than 500,000 Americans. AIDS has replaced malaria and tuberculosis as the
world's deadliest infectious disease among adults and is the fourth leading cause of death
worldwide. Over 13 million children have been orphaned by the epidemic. A person who is
HIV–infected carries the virus in certain body fluids, including blood, semen, vaginal secretions, and
breast milk. The virus can be transmitted only if such HIV–infected fluids enter the bloodstream of
another person. This kind of direct entry can occur (1) through the linings of the vagina, rectum,
mouth, and the opening at the tip of the penis; (2) through intravenous injection with a syringe; or
(3) through a break in the skin, such as a cut or sore. Usually, HIV is transmitted through:
Unprotected sexual intercourse (either vaginal or anal) with someone who is HIV infected.
Women are at greater risk of HIV infection through vaginal sex than men, although

Liberal Arts Education Essay
A liberal arts education is one that, by definition, focuses not on one specific subject, but rather
prepares its student by giving them knowledge in many areas and developing the student's critical
thinking that will allow them to adapt to an ever–changing world. Naturally, this means students at a
university that employs a liberal arts education take classes outside their major. Students of the
humanities or social sciences must enroll in courses of mathematics and natural sciences, and while
many find no joy in such requirements, they better the individual and are helpful in everyday life,
as well as in larger issues. As Crane and Chiles so eloquently write, specifically of science, "Science
matters at a liberal–arts university because the problems facing our global community will not be
solved by scientists alone." Mathematics as a subject acts in a similar way, giving skills to students,
non–mathematics majors included, to help in their everyday lives or potentially to help the world.

To do that, Chopp argues that "What you have to do is to learn the very tools of learning itself. The
liberal arts are...the gold standard for that" (qtd. in Goral). Students, particularly those in the
humanities and social sciences, are thus offered different methods of learning when classes stretch
beyond their major. As is an essential part of a liberal arts education, this breadth of knowledge
enhances the critical and intellectual thinking of students that otherwise might not have had the
opportunity to do so. The creativity and pursuit of knowledge encouraged by non–STEM majors has
much to offer to solve the problems of the world, and a basic understanding of mathematics and
sciences means that these problems seem much more understandable, their solutions more

What I did this summer. That`s a good question to be honest, I did a lot of things that were
considered fun for me, like shopping, hanging out with my family, hanging out with my friends,
going to the beach, the water park and much more. But I will only break it down to two or three of
my favorite things I did this Summer, so stick around to see what my favorite things about this
Summer were. Like I said in my introduction, this paragraph will be about when I went shopping
multiple times with my family. I know it might sound dumb for a first paragraph but, too me it
was awesome. That's because, I love spending time with my family, especially when we're all
getting along. Let me break down this day for you. First it was a good morning, my mom made
me breakfast and everyone was in a good mood. My Brother was happy, my Dad was being
hilarious, and my Mom just seemed like she was having a great time. Then we all got dressed, I
was making sure that I looked extra stunning. So we get into the car and my favorite song comes
on "Despacito" so my family and I all started singing it together. About an hour later we get to the
South lake Mall and we went to four stores, Hollister, Vans, Journeys, and American Eagle. My
Mom, Brother, and I all went to those four stores while my Dad went shopping somewhere else. It
was going well , we were all having a fantastic time together. Then once we were done shopping we
went to McDonald's got some food because, who doesn't adore McDonald`s right? Then we headed
back home, it was a great day and for sure one of my favorite memories from this Summer. Keep in
mind my family and I did this like 2 or 3 times this year, so it was extra fun. My second paragraph
will be about when I went to Deep River Water–park with my friends, Eliot Cates, Ben Herz, Adam
Collard, Cole Watson, and Alden Cates. It was honestly such a great time especially because, I
was with my close friends. We went there for Eliot`s birthday. I was so excited when my Mom
showed me the text saying I got invited, I got all my snacks, clothes, and towels ready, days before
it was actually time for the "party". We were supposed to go on Wednesday, in July. So I get all ready
and we head off for Eliot`s house, everyone

How to Analyze an Expository Essay
Expository writing, in general, is present everywhere. When you pick up a magazine or examine a
newspaper article on the newsstand, you are reading a form of exposition because the author's
main purpose of writing that article or essay is to inform the reader about a topic. In the classroom,
many students are required to produce research papers about a specific topic, such as migration
patterns of birds. The purpose of that research paper is to inform the reader, the teacher, about what
are the migratory patterns of birds. Finally, at the workplace, many people are required to create
business reports and memorandums to inform their supervisors and co–workers about the company's
finances and progress. In order to analyze these expository...show more content...

cold)," the homeowner suggests that the guest, "exit the tub promptly while using a sweeping
motion with one arm to push shower curtain aside"(Frazier 303). This piece of direction is clear
because it plainly informs the guest on the actual action they have to perform in order to prevent
hot or cold water from burning or freezing the guest. It is also concise because it does not include
any irrelevant information pertaining to avoiding burning or freezing the guest. This essay is
organized because when the author listed out his or her directions, he or she listed them out in
chronological order. Lastly, "How to Operate the Shower Curtain" acknowledges common
mistakes, such as "REMEMBER TO KEEP SHOWER CURTAIN INSIDE TUB AT ALL TIMES!"
(Frasier 303). The author is cautioning the guest to keep the shower curtain within the bath tub no
matter what. The reason for determining the kind of expository essay it is to help in determining
the purpose of the exposition as a whole. Next, the third step to analyzing an expository essay is to

Cookies Essay
Ice cream, cookies, cake , candy, or just plain chocolate–whatever it is, we all have our vices. Mine
are cookies. Specifically, thick, soft, buttery cookies like what you might find in a bakery, and one
of my favorites are snickerdoodles. They're a classic, right up there with chocolate chip, sugar, peanut
butter, or oatmeal raisin cookies. And you know what? You don't even have to go out and buy them.
You can make them at home, and I can show you how.
Regardless if you're cooking or baking, the first thing you should do is read the recipe you're
following. You want to make sure that you not only have the ingredients on hand, but enough to
make the recipe. Secondly, you need to consider how many people you're serving. Do you wat a

This serves a couple purposes: the sugar is distributed throughout the butter, and allows it to dissolve
into the butter. Additionally, as you beat the butter and sugar together, you're incorporating air into
the batter, giving our cookies a lighter, fluffy texture. The air pockets in the cookie dough are poor
heat conductors, meaning that they help insulate the dough and slow down the rate that the butter
and sugar melt (Parks). Ideally, butter that's room temperature should be used for this process. It's
not only easier to mix, but there's a science behind it. Butter that's too cold doesn't mix well and
doesn't get enough air bubbles. Using melted butter will get air bubbles in the batter, but will
collapse and make the cookies thin (Robbins). After the sugar and butter have been beaten into a
fluffy paste, add the eggs and mix well.
In a separate medium sized bowl, you add the dry ingredients: 2 Вѕ cups flour, 2 tsp. Cream of tartar,
1 tsp. Baking soda, and ВЅ tsp. Salt. These are whisked together and mixed separately. When you
mix the dry ingredients separately, you ensure that the soda, salt, and cream of tartar are evenly
distributed. Mixing wet and dry ingredients separately allows each set to be mixed thoroughly on its
own and combined together with little mixing. In most cases overmixing creates a tough texture.
Dry ingredients should be added gradually.
After the dough is mixed, you need to let it rest and chill in

  • 1. The Digital Age Essay The Digital Age The digital age is staring us in the face from the near future. We already see countless instances of digital technology emerging more and more in our every day lives. Cell phones are equipped with voice recognition software, and are able to take photographs and send them wirelessly across the globe, almost instantaneously. When information is captured and transmitted into a digital format, possibilities for that data become endless. Soon we will no longer be inconvenienced with reality; all of our sensory shopping experiences will be converted to digital information and will be fed to us through our computers. Digital information is in a much more malleable format. It can easily be duplicated, changed, or processed...show more content... The information created will be able to be shared by anyone with a computer. The power base that the digital age relies on for existence, is technology. The rapid developing technology is absolutely necessary for the digital age to exist. Without super powerful microchips, and high bandwidth transfer wires, the digital age would be a figment of our imagination. Digital technology is computer based, so the millions of calculations per second, and ability to transfer large amounts of data over long distances are absolutely necessary. Without computers, the data might be collected; but there would be nothing to process and transfer the information. When new technology is invented, it is sometimes distributed to a society that might not be ready for it. Few corporations consider this and are only interested in spreading their product to the consumer as soon as possible. New technology is often flawed and taken advantage of by individuals who know how to manipulate it. This is a considerably large problem when dealing with digital technology. Digital information is not a three dimension tangible object. So it is easily tampered with and destroyed without people noticing. When the damage is finally noticed, the party responsible is usually untraceable and in a completely different area of the world to begin with. The potential value of this new technology seems almost Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Thesis For Nosferatu Rhetorical Outline Proposition: The film Nosferatu was a key step in establishing the modern standard of the vampire as an icon of horror. Audience: Persons with a high level of interest in the history and development of film, specifically vampire or German Expressionist film. The book discusses how Nosferatu is an important milestone in cinematic history for its pioneering in both the creation of the "vampire" icon and its use of cutting–edge film techniques, so people with an advanced interest in the history of film would find this book appealing. Additionally, it holds a lot of important analysis for students required to study Nosferatu, and provides insight to the significance of the film that they would not have otherwise had. Genre: Scholarly...show more content... She discusses how Weimar Cinema came to be and how it did so well financially, moves onto the introduction of Expressionism into film from its origin in theater and painting, and finally describes the characteristics of Expressionism in Cinema as opposed to other artforms. From there, she discusses how the various members of the Prana cinema team came together and how their expertise contributed to the movie, how they prepared the masses for Nosferatu, and how they presented the movie. However, she provides the counterpoint of how Florence Stoker's lawsuit against the Prana film company damaged the movie's reputation and popularity. From there she describes how the plot of Nosferatu follows the pattern established by Noel Carroll in Philosophy of Horror of an onset phase, a discovery phase, a confirmation phase, and a confrontation phase. As the chapter progresses, Massaccesi's description of the plot includes lengthy and in–depth analyses of each character in terms of their interactions with each other and with the setting(s). From there she considers the significance of various aspects of the film in relation to the film's events and characters, such as camera angles and symbolic imagery, She also discusses the significance of other aspects of the film in relation to the sociopolitical situation in Germany and Europe as a whole, applying themes such as the defeat of a tyrannical villain figure or the supernatural wonder associated with Romantic artwork. Rhetorical Strategies: Massaccesi uses a more expository and frank structure, opting to be very informative and direct with the content of her book. In every section of the chapters, she has a very clear pattern of making a claim, providing an example, and connecting the two via Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. Essay on Volcanoes Volcanoes Volcanoes are natural phenomena which are on the Earth's surface through which molten rock and gases escape from below the surface (Tarbuck, 139). These volcanoes are very interesting to observe and to study because of their amazing occurrences and majestic lava eruptions. Volcanoes have been studied ever since the beginning of mankind and the word "volcano" is thought to be derived from Vulcano, a volcanic island in the Aeolian Islands of Italy whose name in turn originates from Vulcan, the name of a god of fire in Roman mythology. Consisting of several types, volcanoes can extrude several forms of magma and can also release multiple gases. These extruded materials can affect the Earth's structure and atmosphere. There are...show more content... Last but not least, composite volcanoes also make up some of the earth's surface. Composite volcanoes have a conical shape, with a steep summit area and gradually sloping flanks, and are nearly symmetrical in structure (Tarbuck, 141). These volcanoes release silica–rich and gaseous magma that is highly viscous and travels very short distances. These three types of volcanoes that occupy the earth have seemingly different physical characteristics and behavioral changes. A volcanic eruption is one of the most dangerous and eventful natural disasters that can take place. During these eruptions, several factors are taken into account. Each type of volcano discussed above has a different form of lava: one's might be highly fluid and the other might be very viscous. Lava can take many shapes as it is extruded from a volcano. One such form is that of pahoehoe. Usually common on the Hawaiian volcanoes, pahoehoe is a form of lava which is smooth and ropy and causes by the congealment of lava as it is released from the volcano (Williams, 32). Another form of lava is one that is named aa. This lava consists of jumbles of rough, clinkery, and spinose fragments, ranging from small chips to blocks measuring meters on a side (Williams, 37). Aa flows are cool and thick and can advance at rates between 5 and 50 meters per hour (Tarbuck, 145). Lava can also take a block formation Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Technology Expository Essay How Technology Affects Our Lives Christopher David McCray COM 150 January 20, 2012 Karen Shively How Technology Affects Our Lives Have you ever wondered how much different life would be without the continued study and advancement in technology? A lot of conveniences that we now know and cannot imagine living without make our lives easier and more comfortable. Technology is helping the world stay connected and grow at an alarming rate. The change technology has bought to society has not only effected the way we communicate, but it also effects the way we learn. Today learning is made easier, more convenient, and more attainable that ever before. Such as some are born into money; some come across good fortune yet most work hard from the start to get some where in the world. It just all depends on how you were brought into this world. For some people, life is full of stress and hardships. That's how life was for someone very dear to me. He had it difficult from the start. However he chose not to let life get him down. Since his masters originated from the UAE, it has little value in the US. His options were to either get a job or go to college. Thinking of his family, and how he needed to support them, this man decided to obtain a job at a jewelry store at the mall in Anderson. There he worked for two years as an employee until he was finally given the chance to operate the store himself. From there, over the course of four years, this man owned jewelry store all across South Carolina. He was given an opportunity to expand into other businesses and he embraced it with open arms. Soon his business had reached New York, California, Florida, and Georgia. Life once again was peaceful until the jewelry business plummeted. He sold all his stores and moved to Georgia. Yet much research evidence suggests that overly positive self–evaluations, exaggerated perceptions of control or mastery, and unrealistic optimism are characteristics of normal human thought. A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend's mom. What is love? A choice that people make by putting their partner's wishes, desires and needs above everything else. What is love? The speaker loves her husband so much that she is willing to meet him no matter what the distance between them might be. Love is the constant care and affection that is needed to flourish and bloom into great beauty. Love is the commitment that two people share. Jarold Ramsey's poem "The Tally Stick" is a great example of the commitment that two people share. The speaker says, "Here from the start, from our first days, look: / I have carved our lives in secret on this stick" (1–2). Starting with their marriage, the first notch is "Near the butt, this intricate notch where the grains / converge and join: it is our wedding" (6–7). The couple uses the stick as a symbol of their love for each other. The stick symbolizes how committed they are in their relationship. Love is a commitment one makes to put someone's wishes, desires and needs above all. What if the husband or wife became ill or cannot take care of him or herself anymore? Or perhaps the spouse got orders to go to Iraq, or maybe the spouse got a job offer in another state. What will happen to the life that is shared? Does the spouse give up and move on? No! The spouse's love and commitment will keep them together even if they are far away, or moving to another state, or becomes ill. Because love is unconditional, spouses can endure all hardships that cross their path. Love is an infatuation between two people and the desire to be desired. • 10. Expository Writing Rough Draft On School Kirk Zimmer Expository Writing Rough Draft Everything Wrong With School In 10 Minutes or Less! When I was twelve, I had no appreciation for school. I saw it as nothing more as a glorified daycare center with all the rules and regulations specifically designed to restrict as much fun as possible. Then one day in the ninth grade, I had a revelation: what if school was actually meant to build me up with knowledge and facts and not just waste my time? This was the foundation I needed to get me through the next four years. Whenever I was bored, I would remind myself that I 'd never have a "free" education like this again. I adapted particularly well to this system of tests, quizzes, and science labs but I could never understand the hang up some people had with it. School was basic and easy and all it seemed to require was consistency an+d proper scheduling. I looked at people who couldn 't understand US History or Geometry and I thought they were dumb. It wasn 't until much later with much more reflection that I came to conclude there 's a difference between how you score on the SATs and how smart you actually are. Education isn 't necessarily a direct line to becoming intelligent and knowledgeable; education is nothing more than an institution designed to equip people with subsets of specialized processing methodologies, algorithms, and a fair bit of esoteric trivia. Furthermore, the current educational system in place is inefficient because of its rigid nature. The current Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Reflection Of Expository Writing Erwyn Suruy December 9, 2017 Eng 111 Reflective Essay I have been taking Expository Writing for 4 months. I have found that I need to be able to communicate myself in writing. I must relay exactly what I'm trying to put forth to others and convey the right message of understanding. I must be able to explain myself, negotiate, and work in teams. My language skills can be worked on and improved. I need to be able to pick up the language of whatever environment I'm in whether it be at work or school, or in society. Since everyone does not have the same background, learning how to write the written word is important in any environment. I have learned how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find answers to things I do not know. Most important I have learned how to believe in my writing. I was very hesitant in taking this English class, I have not taken an English class in many years. When I took the placement test for reading and English, I tested out of all categories. I was proud of myself for that feat. When I found I was going to have to take a college level English class, I avoided it at all costs. Too much pressure. However, I have learned about the Rhetorical Essay was to understand how an author writes and not focus on what the content is. Knowing the explanation of what techniques and author uses to make their point come across to the intended audience. I learned about Argumentative Research Paper is to debate both sides of an issue. The intent is to be unbiased and state the facts on either side. I learned about Public Piece with Presentation is meant to deliver an effective presentation to engage your audience. Your audience listens to not only what you are saying but your visual engagement in the topic being presented. Also, the point of the class is to be able to work with others to achieve a desired outcome or task. To know that I can work with others in a cohesive environment to draw on everyone's input and views. This will assist me in the real work of life and assist in handling many types of people and myself in communicating. I have never been a good writer; however, I have learned that communication is not the same when writing. Having a conversation about aliens Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. Liberal Arts Education Essay A liberal arts education is one that, by definition, focuses not on one specific subject, but rather prepares its student by giving them knowledge in many areas and developing the student's critical thinking that will allow them to adapt to an ever–changing world. Naturally, this means students at a university that employs a liberal arts education take classes outside their major. Students of the humanities or social sciences must enroll in courses of mathematics and natural sciences, and while many find no joy in such requirements, they better the individual and are helpful in everyday life, as well as in larger issues. As Crane and Chiles so eloquently write, specifically of science, "Science matters at a liberal–arts university because the problems facing our global community will not be solved by scientists alone." Mathematics as a subject acts in a similar way, giving skills to students, non–mathematics majors included, to help in their everyday lives or potentially to help the world. ...show more content... To do that, Chopp argues that "What you have to do is to learn the very tools of learning itself. The liberal arts are...the gold standard for that" (qtd. in Goral). Students, particularly those in the humanities and social sciences, are thus offered different methods of learning when classes stretch beyond their major. As is an essential part of a liberal arts education, this breadth of knowledge enhances the critical and intellectual thinking of students that otherwise might not have had the opportunity to do so. The creativity and pursuit of knowledge encouraged by non–STEM majors has much to offer to solve the problems of the world, and a basic understanding of mathematics and sciences means that these problems seem much more understandable, their solutions more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. What I did this summer. That`s a good question to be honest, I did a lot of things that were considered fun for me, like shopping, hanging out with my family, hanging out with my friends, going to the beach, the water park and much more. But I will only break it down to two or three of my favorite things I did this Summer, so stick around to see what my favorite things about this Summer were. Like I said in my introduction, this paragraph will be about when I went shopping multiple times with my family. I know it might sound dumb for a first paragraph but, too me it was awesome. That's because, I love spending time with my family, especially when we're all getting along. Let me break down this day for you. First it was a good morning, my mom made me breakfast and everyone was in a good mood. My Brother was happy, my Dad was being hilarious, and my Mom just seemed like she was having a great time. Then we all got dressed, I was making sure that I looked extra stunning. So we get into the car and my favorite song comes on "Despacito" so my family and I all started singing it together. About an hour later we get to the South lake Mall and we went to four stores, Hollister, Vans, Journeys, and American Eagle. My Mom, Brother, and I all went to those four stores while my Dad went shopping somewhere else. It was going well , we were all having a fantastic time together. Then once we were done shopping we went to McDonald's got some food because, who doesn't adore McDonald`s right? Then we headed back home, it was a great day and for sure one of my favorite memories from this Summer. Keep in mind my family and I did this like 2 or 3 times this year, so it was extra fun. My second paragraph will be about when I went to Deep River Water–park with my friends, Eliot Cates, Ben Herz, Adam Collard, Cole Watson, and Alden Cates. It was honestly such a great time especially because, I was with my close friends. We went there for Eliot`s birthday. I was so excited when my Mom showed me the text saying I got invited, I got all my snacks, clothes, and towels ready, days before it was actually time for the "party". We were supposed to go on Wednesday, in July. So I get all ready and we head off for Eliot`s house, everyone Get more content on HelpWriting.net

When you pick up a magazine or examine a newspaper article on the newsstand, you are reading a form of exposition because the author's main purpose of writing that article or essay is to inform the reader about a topic. In the classroom, many students are required to produce research papers about a specific topic, such as migration patterns of birds. The purpose of that research paper is to inform the reader, the teacher, about what are the migratory patterns of birds. Within the model essay itself, it satisfies all of these requirements. The text describes, "when you find water becoming extremely hot (or cold)," the homeowner suggests that the guest, "exit the tub promptly while using a sweeping motion with one arm to push shower curtain aside"(Frazier 303). This piece of direction is clear because it plainly informs the guest on the actual action they have to perform in order to prevent hot or cold water from burning or freezing the guest. It is also concise because it does not include any irrelevant information pertaining to avoiding burning or freezing the guest. This essay is organized because when the author listed out his or her directions, he or she listed them out in chronological order. Lastly, "How to Operate the Shower Curtain" acknowledges common mistakes, such as "REMEMBER TO KEEP SHOWER CURTAIN INSIDE TUB AT ALL TIMES!" (Frasier 303). The author is cautioning the guest to keep the shower curtain within the bath tub no matter what. The reason for determining the kind of expository essay it is to help in determining the purpose of the exposition as a whole. Specifically, thick, soft, buttery cookies like what you might find in a bakery, and one of my favorites are snickerdoodles. They're a classic, right up there with chocolate chip, sugar, peanut butter, or oatmeal raisin cookies. And you know what? You don't even have to go out and buy them. You can make them at home, and I can show you how. Regardless if you're cooking or baking, the first thing you should do is read the recipe you're following. Additionally, as you beat the butter and sugar together, you're incorporating air into the batter, giving our cookies a lighter, fluffy texture. The air pockets in the cookie dough are poor heat conductors, meaning that they help insulate the dough and slow down the rate that the butter and sugar melt (Parks). Ideally, butter that's room temperature should be used for this process. It's not only easier to mix, but there's a science behind it. Butter that's too cold doesn't mix well and doesn't get enough air bubbles. Using melted butter will get air bubbles in the batter, but will collapse and make the cookies thin (Robbins). After the sugar and butter have been beaten into a fluffy paste, add the eggs and mix well. In a separate medium sized bowl, you add the dry ingredients: 2 Вѕ cups flour, 2 tsp. Cream of tartar, 1 tsp. Baking soda, and ВЅ tsp. Salt. These are whisked together and mixed separately. When you mix the dry ingredients separately, you ensure that the soda, salt, and cream of tartar are evenly distributed.
