Relationship Between Societies Of Today And The Environment
An interdisciplinary program presented is an investigation of the relationship between societies of
today and the environment they/we live in. In my focus particularly are societies of the Westernized
parts of the world. Their activities within, attitudes towards, values regarding and
comprehensiveness of the complexity of the environmentthey live and operate in. Consequently, my
personal goal is to gain a deep knowledge of the interconnectedness of human activity and
alterations it does to the environment. Equally, I also aim to understand how attitudes and values
(towards the environment) are passed from generations to generations. After successfully
accomplishing studies, my goal is to collaborate with the representatives of the younger generations
to and promote awareness of their deportment on the more global scale. Academically, my strategy
is to pursue Individualized Major in Environment and Society and to successfully accomplish Minor
in Psychologywithal. Environment and Society as a traditional Major is offered at the University
of California, Berkley and at the University of Minnesota. To enhance the experience of the
Individual Major, during the Junior and Senior years at Emmanuel College, I aspire to attend
Environmental Forum provided every spring by Colleges of Fenway. As a capstone experience I
foresee myself undergoing an internship in a locally based Education Outreach Program2. On this
matter, I would like to accentuate that driven by my interest I am

Progesterone
Progesterone is a steroid hormone that belongs to a group of sex hormones called progestogen. It
is secreted primarily by the placenta (during pregnancy), the corpus luteum and adrenal glands. The
corpus luteum is a temporary endocrine gland that is produced in a female body after ovulation
and is involved in the early stages of pregnancy. If the eggs are not fertilised, the corpus luteum
reverts to a corpus albicans and menstruation takes place. If the egg is fertilized, then progesterone
is secreted by the placenta.
Progesterone has the chemical formula of C21H30O2. Progesterone is composed of three 6
carbon rings and one 5 carbon ring fused together, satisfying the the structure of a steroid. It
contains two ketone groups as well as an alkene group and is a hydrophobic molecule. Progesterone
s main function is to prepare the lining of the uterus to accept a fertilized egg and allow for further
development into a fetus. During pregnancy, progesterone allows for the development of the milk
producing glands in the breasts. Progesterone is also a neurosteroid that allows for normal brain
function. It protects the brain from damage and stimulates repair after injury. Some other functions
include raising the epidermal growth factor , normalizing blood ... Show more content on

However, progesterone will only carry out its function if the cell contains the intracellular
progesterone receptor. These receptors are embedded in the cytoplasm. The progesterone and the
progesterone receptor form a covalent bond creating a single unit called a dimer. The dimer then
enters the nucleus and binds to the DNA which stimulates the writing of genes and creates RNA
that are specific to progesterone. The RNA that was formed is transformed into new protein. This
entire process changes the metabolic character of the cell allowing for the cell to carry out tasks
specific to the progesterone

Theme Of Racism In Huck Finn
The notorious Mark Twain once said Of all the animals, man is the only one that is cruel. He is the
only one that inflicts pain for the pleasure of doing it. Having lived at a time where racism and
slavery were debatably at their peak, Twain undeniably experienced the cruelty of which humanity
is capable. Twain s mindset during the aforementioned quotation was evident in his masterwork
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Especially in recent years, his work is often criticized and even
censored for its supposedly racist ideologies. Mainly having to do with the book insisting on
referring to the deuteragonist, Jim, and other slaves as niggers . Be that as it may, the deeper you
dive into the publication; you would come to find that Twain instead satirizes the concepts of
racism and slaveryand even comes across as having an anti slavery perspective. Ironically, one of
the best examples of Twain s masterful satire is demonstrated in one of the novel s most off
putting moments. The first time the reader is introduced to Jim, they are given a very unfavorable
description of the character. Jim is described as illiterate, almost childlike and unintelligent.
However, the reader must understand that this description of Jim is supplied from Huck s point of
view. Although Huck himself is presented to the reader as not being inherently racist, he was
raised by incredibly racist individuals who implanted their beliefs and hate into Huck. As distasteful
as this description is, it is

Social Movements And The Civil Rights Movement
When a diversity of communities come together to demand social or political change it is evident
that something is wrong with the judicial system. Throughout American History, millions of people
worldwide have gathered to support each other by gathering and protesting for what they believe is
right. Social movements such as The Abolition Movement, The American Revolution, Women s
Rights Movement, and The Civil Rights Movement are examples of the significant impact they
have made to American History. Two rising controversial movements that seem to be rising are the
Black Lives Matter and the Blue Lives Matter movements where in some cases the outcomes
seemed righteous as to others, actions were unjustifiable which have caused... Show more content

Twelfth Night
Twelfth Night Twelfth Night is a comedy of light and shade. Its characters are not unreservedly
happy and the events are not unreservedly humorous. Discuss. As a comedy, Twelfth Night is
obviously intending to not only entertain its audience but also point out problems in society. It is
imperative to entire merit of the play not to be realistic but to allow for empathy. Therefor to have
a comedyof complete lightheartedness there would be no balance and hence no avenue for
audience interaction. Without light we would have no darkness and for this reason Shakespeare
has had to incorporate tragedy in order for the comedy to have it s desired effect. The two in... Show

In Twelfth Nightthere is conflict concerning who will win the hand of Oliva. Malvolio through
his vanity is easily fooled into thinking it is he who she loves although she is most otherwise, O,
you are sick of self love, Malvolio, and taste with a distemper d appetite. Another social theme
that is not unreservedly humorous dealt with in Twelfth Night is the idea of self awareness.
Self awareness is based around being well balanced rather than excessive, therefor to convey this
idea neither the characters nor the plot can be completely, inadvertently happy. Self awareness
is developed by both Olivia and Orsino; they were both creatures of lavishness. Orsino plunged
deeply into his unrequited almost courtly love for Olivia his verbose, dramatic language
demonstrates this, If music be the food of love, play on; / Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,
/ The appetite may sicken and die. This passionate plea and later exchanges demonstrate Orsino s
developing character. Initially he is more in love with the idea of love. We as the audience and
survey of this activity may find his self absorption laughable but as he develops into a well
rounded character, it is evident why Shakespeare portrayed him in this way. It is vital the
believability and credit to the play

Essay On Alexander II And The Failure Of The Serfs
Intentions of Alexander II and the Failure of the Emancipation of the Serfs
In the 19th century it was estimated that about 50 per cent of the 40,000,000 peasants in Russia
were serfs, who worked on the land and were owned by the Russian nobility, the Tsar and
religious foundations. This had been true for centuries; in 1861, however, this was all changed
when Tsar Alexander II emancipated the serfs and gave them freedom from ownership.
Alexander s decision was based on many reasons, and did not have the desired consequences, for
the serfs at least. Therefore, it is possible to question Alexander s motives for such large reform,
which this essay will do and will also look at why the emancipation, ... Show more content on

A large part of the problem was serfdom Russia needed millions of industrial workers, to free up
land and to force the nobility to relinquish power to a certain extent. The Tsar was also aware that
much of western Europe looked on serfdom as being akin to slavery, and looked down on Russia as
a result. As one historian has remarked:
The strip system, involving the use of antiquated farming implements and techniques, had long ago
been abandoned on the agriculturally advanced nations. Its continued use in Russia was a major
reason why the nation could not meet it s food needs. [1]
Alexander was also acutely aware of the threat of a serf uprising. Despite the general
contentedness of the majority of serfs, there were a significant number who were not happy, and
many groups of political activists, such as the Narodniks, had begun stirring up discontentment. In
a population of 67 million, Russia had 23 million serfs belonging to 103,000 landlords. Serfs
therefore outnumbered their landlords by over 200 to one, and so Alexander was right to be
concerned about what might happen should a large uprising occur. His worries were plainly stated
when he addressed the State Council in January 1861:

U3 Advisors Expanded The Chula Vista Team
In 2015, U3 Advisors expanded the Chula Vista team by retaining the following four individuals to
act in an advisory capacity on the project; Denise Ducheny, retired California State Senator, and
Clarissa Reyes Falcon of Falcon Consulting, to act as the local representatives for the institutional
recruitment process, and Eduardo Glandt, Dean of Engineering, Emeritus, Universityof
Pennsylvania as an academic and institutional sounding board. We also consulted with Mexican
American Architect Enrique Norten who has close ties to Chula Vista as well as high level
Mexican governmental and higher educationofficials.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The City of Chula Vista, California has engaged U3 Advisors to help establish a University and
Innovation District campus on a 375 acre site in the southeast corner of the City. Chula Vista, a
growing city located approximately four miles north of the US/Mexico border and midpoint
between the downtowns of San Diego and Tijuana, envisions this campus as an educational
destination and regional economic engine. U3 is guiding the effort to identify potential partner
institutions for this project and is exploring opportunities with higher education partners globally
and domestically.

Safety In Sports-Related Head Injuries
Every year in the United States, there are an estimated 300,000 sports related concussions
(Cuncussions, 2015). Head related injuries have serious consequences in violent contact sports.
Players can have injuries that result in lifelong brain trauma, such as post concussion syndrome.
There is a large amount of controversy surrounding safety in contact sports. In the essay Brain
Games: Who is Responsible for Preventing Sports Related Head Injuries?, Peter Dewar
communicates to players, coaches, referees, fans, and anyone else involved in sports, to argue that
a new sports culture should be adopted to create a safer and more profitable playing environment.
Through his use of stories, statistics, and a call to take action, Dewar effectively portrays the
urgency of accountability in sports.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

about contact sports and concussions. He follows this with the story of Sidney Crosby, the

protocol, was entered into another game and hit again. Due to excessive brain trauma the most
popular player in the NHL was temporarily removed, resulting in a publicity crisis that led to loss
of media attention and drop in merchandise sales. Dewar is able to further his argument through
the story of Crosby because it is a real account of what will go wrong if action to provide safety is
not taken. Both of the stories that are provided magnify the seriousness of concussions in

Essay on Scottish American Immigration
Scottish American Immigration
America was created by people who immigrated to the country over the years. One of the many
groups of people to come to America and help build into what she is today was the Scots. In order
to discuss the Scottish immigration you must understand why they immigrated, what type of
prejudice they faced, and what role the Scots now have in today s America. Though the Scots did
not have the influx of people immigrating as the Irish, Italian, or English they had a major influence
on the development of America.
When did the first Scottish arrive and why did they come? The first Scots in America probably
came with the Vikings is what Wikipedia says on when the first Scots came to America. The first

Because of this many Scots did not face prejudice or discrimination and more Scots came to the
New World. So much so that at the time of our first federal census (1790) people of Scottish
(including Scottish Irish) origins made up more than six percent of the population.
(geneologymagazine.com) By the year 2000 approximately 1.5 million Scots have immigrated to
America. (Gormley) So were the Scottish discriminated against or did they discriminate. The truth
of the matter is that though the Scottish was not discriminated against, they did participate in
discrimination. The Scottish was some of the main farmers of cotton and tobacco. Because of this
the Scottish owned many slaves and fought to be able to keep the African Americans slaves. Their
discrimination against this race would continue well into the 1960 s. This would include
discriminating against them in jobs, whether that being not hiring because of color, or not
promoting for the same reason.
For the most part the Scottish did real well for themselves once they were in America. A fair went
on to have children who became presidents; Andrew Jackson was one of those children. Along
with Andrew Jackson there were a few more Scots to help sign the Declaration of Independence.
Many presidents later would be of Scottish decent. Many went on to become successful tobacco and
cotton farmers. Many went on to settle and discover the American West

What Is The Dramatic Change In Pay It Forward
Clermondo Erisme Pay It Forward In the movie , Pay It Forward , a new idea that would bring
change to the world at an incredible pace was called pay it forward system. It was the act of one
person returning a favor received from another to three other people. This system changed the
view point of Eugene Simonet not because it caused him to stop running away. Throughout the
movie Eugene Simonet shows difficult opening up to people and letting them know what makes
him tick. As seen later on in the movie he even goes as far as to reject a sexual experience with

and everything just walked all over her which led her to drink excessively. When she finally
fixed her moral compass she changed her self and he attitude towards life. Arlene dumped her
abusive husband, regained connections with her mother, settled down with Eugene, and repaired
the bond between her and Trevor.Jerry at first had shown that life had beat him down and he had
no chance of getting back up. When Trevor offered him that opportunity he needed he took it and

New York City Draft Riots
On July 13, 1863, the streets of New York City were ablaze. People ran rampant without a care of
the well being of anyone else; mutilating bodies, robbing people, and setting buildings on fire.
Children were rushed to safety from the bloodthirsty mobs. These were the New York City Draft
Riots of 1863, and colored and rich people weren t safe from the protests that the poor and
working class had against the highly controversial draft (Bernstein 34). These violent riots had to
be stopped, and someone had to come up with an idea to put the crowds at rest. The New York City
Draft Riots of 1863 were stopped when the Union government decided to compromise by stopping
the draft and not receiving more troops for the civil war.
The Draft Riots began on July 13 of 1863 and lasted for five days (Amato and Meisel). The civil
war was taking place and the Battle of Gettysburg was ending. Hopes for a Union victory were
skyrocketing like never before and the brave soldiers were heading home. Slavery also seemed to
only be a temporary thing, with so many African Americans arriving free into the north
(Lighthizer). Many things had gone wrong in the past, including battles and race issues. The future
seemed so bright for nearly everyone in New York City, and something seemed so clear; things
were finally getting better for so many people. Unfortunately for the happy people, it wouldn t
remain that way for long.
Racism, fuelled by anger, during that time was at a towering peak. African

Persuasive Essay About Life After College
Finding Home What do you want to do after graduation? is a pretty common question that the
students in Class of 2018 seem to hear on a daily basis. Some students know exactly what their
plans are, while others have no idea. Being one who has known what my post high school plans are
for quite some time and knowing that I want to earn a Strategic Communications degree from Ohio
University, I am able to begin thinking about life after college. One of the biggest decisions a
person will need to make almost immediately after college is deciding where to start their life. I
have thought about staying in Findlay, my hometown, but have also really contemplated moving
to Cleveland or one of its surrounding suburbs. While both Findlay and Cleveland are great
places to live, finding a job and settling down in Findlay, rather than residing in the Cleveland
area, is the better option for me because of the opportunities it offers. Coming back to Findlay
after graduating from college is the most ethical choice for me because of the jobs the town has
to offer. With a Strategic Communications degree, one living in the Findlay area can get a job
working as a Recruiting Specialist at Automatic Data Processing s Recruitment Process
Outsourcing office, as an Investor Relations Manager at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company, or as
the director of Visit Findlay, the cityand county s Convention and Visitors Bureau, once the position
opens up ( Communications Jobs in Findlay, OH ). Along with the

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the great herbal systems of the world, with an unbroken
tradition going back to the 3rd century BC. Traditionally, practitioners used medicinal
ingredients from all the three kingdoms ; vegetable, animal and mineral. However, the majority
of these are from vegetable sources, such as: leaves, flowers, seeds, twigs, stems, roots, tubers,
rhizomes and barks. Currently, UK law only permits herbalists to prescribe substances from the
vegetable kingdom and so animal and mineral products are not used. Every herb has a unique
action. Cleverly combined together they perform a multitude of tasks that help bring a holistic
balance back to the body. All herbs are of the highest quality and are prescribed individually to
meet each patient s needs. They can be dispensed in a variety of ways: powders, granules, pills,
tablets, capsules or teas.

Compare And Contrast Othello Play And Movie
Shakespeare was somewhat difficult for me and was probably for most high school students. Many
high school students will study some form of Shakespeare, play or sonnet in high school English. A
lot of students don t know anything about him, so it wouldn t hurt to teach them about
Shakespeare. Adaptations are m because they can take something original and make changes so
that can be better understand. In this essay, I will compare and contrast characters and settings
from the graphic novel and the movie O , to help decide which adaptation is better for high school
students.
In the graphic novel, Othello is somewhat similar to O know as Odin who basically is Othello in
the movie. The novel, Othello is the general, a leader to Venice. He has... Show more content on

This makes him jealous because the garden is a romantic place.
Another critical similarity in setting in both adaptations is Desdemona s/Desi s bedroom. Both
adaptations use Desdemona s bedroom as the place where Othello takes Desdemona s/Desi s life
because he was angry and jealous believing Iago s lies that she cheated on him. Iago/ Hugo also
kills his wife/girlfriend, Emilia/Emily in the same bedroom because she started telling Othello
/O the truth about Iago s/Hugo s dishonesty. Desdemona s bedroom is an important place
because it shows the love they have for each other. The bedroom is supposed to be a place where
they show an intimacy and feel comfortable, but both couples turn it into a place of death,
sadness, and regret. At the same time, the setting was very different from both the movie and
novel. In the graphic novel, it took place in Venice then moved to Cyprus. In the movie, their
school was like Venice but then moved to the basketball court that was supposed to be Cyprus for
war . Also, in the graphic novel mostly the entire story took place at the palace where Othello
lived. It changed from time to time but the story was mostly in the palace. In the movie, the setting
changed all the time. First, it was at the basketball court, then at school, later at someone was house,

We Grow Accustomed to the Dark...
We grow accustomed to the dark... Darkness is a recurring image in literature that evokes a
universal unknown, yet is often entrenched in many meanings. A master poet, Emily Dickinson
employs darkness as a metaphor many times throughout her poetry. In We grow accustomed to the
dark (#428) she talks of the newness that awaits when we fit our Vision to the Dark. As enigmatic
and shrouded in mystery as the dark she explores, Dickinson s poetry seems our only door to
understanding the recluse. As she wrote to her friend T.W. Higginson on April 15, 1862, the Mind
is so near itself it cannot see, distinctly (Letters 253). In this musing, she acquiesces to a notion that
man remains locked in an internal struggle with himself. This inner... Show more content on

However, the poem has fluidity despite its apparent scarcity of rhyme. After examining the
alteration of syllables in each line, a pattern is revealed in this poem concerning darkness. The
first nine lines alternate between 8 and 6 syllables. These lines are concerned, as any narrative is,
with exposition. These lines set up darkness as an internal conflict to come. The conflict
intensifies in lines 10 and 11 as we are bombarded by an explosion of 8 syllables in each line.
These lines present the conflict within one s own mind at its most desperate. After this climax, the
syllables in the last nine lines resolve the conflict presented. In these lines, Dickinson presents us
with an archetypal figure that is faced with a conflict: the bravest hero. These lines present the
resolution in lines that alternate between 6 and 7 syllables. Just as the syllables decrease, the falling
action presents us with a final insight. This insight discusses how darkness is an insurmountable
entity that, like the hero, we must face to continue straight through Life (line 20). The next
seemingly arbitrary decision is Dickinson s capitalization. The capitalization at the beginning of the
sentence must be capitalized; therefore, we ll focus on the capitalizations that lie within each
sentence. In this poem, each of these words is a noun. Past this simple reading, what may we
deduce from these capitalizations? Each stanza presents a different set of capitalized objects

Elements Of Magical Realism
Various readers tend to misinterpret the concept of magical realism when developing the genre as a
whole. The literary or artistic genre magical realism is the adding of surreal elements within a story
in an attempt to create a realistic narrative without distracting the narrative flow. There are several
characteristics having to do with the intertwining of elements in which unexplainable events are
seen to be an everyday event, allowing the reader to get a better understanding of the author s
intention. In the following stories, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, The Handsomest
Drowned Man in the World, Bless Me, Ultimaand Lightis Like Water, there are several different
elements that characterize magical realism. Magical realism is evident within the stories, A
Very Old Man with Enormous Wings and Bless Me, Ultima, because they are set in an otherwise
ordinary world, with cultural realities and the events within the stories are not always explained
by universal laws or familiar logic. The cultural reality in A Very Old Man with Enormous
Wings reveals a lot about the people who follow the faith Catholicism. The people in the town
tried to make the old man eat some mothballs (paragraph 8) because it was supposedly the food
prescribes for angels. This show how the people of the Catholic religion did not think of the old
man as magical, they really believed he was an angel and expected him to act certain way since
he was an angel. In addition, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings demonstrates how the events
within the stories are not always explained by universal laws or familiar logic when the
townspeople were introduced to the old man (the extraordinary). The old man is described as a
ragpicker, with only a few faded hairs on his head and having very few teeth in his mouth, but
despite these human characteristics the old man is treated inhumanly. The townspeople treated the
old man with no respect, he was penned up with the chickens and displayed, forced to eat mush and
branded. The fact the townspeople dehumanized the old man because of unfamiliar characteristics
portrays how human nature is not accepting to those who are different and will only accept those
who are like them.

The Philosophy Of Moral Relativism
In the beginning of the semester, we were given an ethical inventory and I felt fairly confident
with my results. I ve never taken an ethics class before, so I was very interested in learning about
different philosophies. I came to class with an opened mind and eager with curiosity and was
intrigued by the many different philosophical theories. This newfound information influenced my
current stance when re taking the inventory. There were a few questions which I had a change of
heart in, most of these questions circled around the philosophy of moral relativism and moral
absolutism.
At the start of the course, I believed that right and wrong was not determined by one s culture. I
believed that every being acknowledges that there are certain overarching morals, i.e., thou shalt not
kill. By the end of the course, I changed my opinion on the matter; this change is influenced by the
philosopher, Ruth Benedict. Benedict s philosophy of moral relativism states that morality is
culturally relative morality is dependent upon what is socially approved, and that good varies
among different societies. Each society has their own expectations of behavior, and that in turn
molds the morality of the individual. For example, an individual being brought up in Nazi
Germany will view the treatment of Jews as normal , not batting an eye, in seeing them murdered.
Nonetheless, I still stand behind my initial idea of a universal morality but I understand and accept

Instrumental Aggression Research Paper
ESP Topic : Kid Sisters and Serial Killers !
Aggression comes in two main forms; hostile aggression and instrumental aggression. Hostile
aggression is aggression stemming from feelings of anger and aimed at inflicting pain or injury
(Aronson, Wilson, Arkert, 2013, p. 453). So simply put, hostile aggressionis being violent and
hurting someone because we are angry. According to our textbook, instrumental aggression is
defined as aggression as a means to some goal other than causing pain (Aronson, Wilson, Arkert,
2013, p. 454). Instrumental Aggression is basically harming someone in service of some other goal
and not to just hurt them. When thinking of hostile aggression, think of serial killers; people who
commits a series of murders usually with no apparent motive. When it comes to instrumental ...

The origins of kickboxing is found in the martial art of Muay Thai. Kickboxing does not have a
grading system (belts) and fighters are ranked by their competitive record alone (Grahame,
2010). Now though many kickboxing school have started implementing a belt system to help
their students set goals and see how far they have come. Sheila s sensei does not use the belt
system but is being swayed to giving it try. Though I am not sure how he will go about ranking

(Rousseau, 2017). Jiu jitsu is about self defense. It started as a way to teach a unarmed or very
lightly armed warrior to fight a heavily armed warrior. This martial art is focused on using
grappling, throwing and restraining your opponent (Rousseau, 2017). For Sheila, jiu jitsu was the
gateway to martial arts. She has been in jiu jitsu for the past four years and since she is finally a

Becoming A Social Worker
As graduation nears, I find myself reflecting on what it means to be a social worker. I have
questioned if the original purpose of me becoming a social worker was still my main focus, or
had something changed? I originally decided to become a social worker because I saw a need
for someone who could relate too and understand the military culture, and the experiences are
men and women in the military who need help. However, from my studies, I have learned that
shared experiences alone will not equate to me becoming a good social worker. I will still need to
further and continue my education. Such as becoming aware of new theories and evidence based
practices, policies and culture changes. Nevertheless, I felt then and still do today that I can... Show

Being from the middle class afforded me certain privileges such as; access to support networks,
good health care, financial stability and good education (Self aware). Therefore, I have zero
experience or knowledge of what it is like to not have these privileges, which is why it is
important to have empathy for my clients and to always meet them where they are at. As a
social worker, I can t do that and I will strive to gain a better understanding of my clients by
conducting research and becoming more open minded on the issues. There are so many things
that I need to improve on, which is why as a social worker my education never stops. However, I
also believe that social work is an art form. We are not all born artists, therefore it takes a while to
master the art form of help and interviewing clients.
After I graduate from PLU in May, I plan to continue my social work education at the University
of Southern California (USC) and gain my Masters in Social Work (MSW) with a concentration
in military social work. There I hope to gain a better understanding of the military culture as far as
mental health is concerned and graduating with my MSW and a concentration in military social

families which are why I became a social worker in the first

Last year s finale left our two main protagonists in rather different circumstances. Hood had already
been hit hard by Siobhan death, but although his team took both Chayton and Stowe he arguably
lost more than he gained after Gordon died in the shootout and Job was snatched from under their

new deal with Hector and the Salvadorians. This final season promises jaw dropping twists, a
stellar guest cast (including Eliza Dushku) and of course all the best choreographed fight scenes

Illegal Immigration Benefits
Immigration, legal and illegal can both harm and help the economies of the supporting nation.
Most people view immigration as a bad thing, something that harms the nation and takes valuable
jobs meant for the citizens of said nation. What people don t look at, is what about the jobs no one
else would take besides these immigrants, such as crop picking and other menial tasks. Intelligent
and ambitious legal immigrants who want a better life in America also bring their culture and a
source of cheap labor. It is also true that decreasing legal immigrationwould increase the amount of
illegal immigration. Of course, there are problems with illegal immigrants. They often bring illegal
substances and firearms into the U.S., and that is a big problem. Other issues such as the taxpayer

We are supposed to be allowed equal treatment and freedom, but denying people the rights to that
freedom by making immigration illegal would be intolerable. These immigrants have a positive
effect on the economy due to tax dollars and cheap work. They also do many jobs that are
undesirable and they are willing to take below minimum wage in some instances. This has a
positive effect on the economy.
By allowing immigration there are of course some obstacles such as people ignoring the
immigration laws set, and if we are going to talk about immigration we are also going to have to
talk about illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants can cause harm to the nation, but they also help
the U.S. in ways most people don t think about. Many illegal immigrants are paid under the table,
and if they do manage to get a job they are willing to take less money than the minimum wage.
This boosts the economy and takes the pressure off of businesses by providing more products for

How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Reaction
A chemical reaction is a process that involves the movement of the molecules in a substance. All
chemical reactions involve both reactants and products. Reactants are substances that cause a
chemical reaction, and products are substances that are generated in the reaction. The reaction
rate for a reactant or product in a particular reaction is defined as how quickly or slowly a
reaction takes place. In general, the reactions between covalent compounds are slow. For example
rusting of iron. In the same way weathering of rocks takes place in millions of years. An example
of a fast reaction rateis in an explosion when the reaction has to happen quickly. In general, the
reactions between ionic compounds are fast. This reaction is also called neutralisation reaction.
Reaction rates can be altered in four ways these are; The temperature is increased, the
concentration of a dissolved reactant is increased, the pressure of a reacting gas is increased, solid
reactants are broken into smaller pieces and if a catalyst is used or added. In this investigation it
was tested if a chemical reactionwould occur faster if the surrounding temperature was hotter.
Aim
The aim of this experiment was to find out how temperature affects the rate of reaction between
Sodium thiosulfate (hypo) and hydrochloric acid.
Hypothesis It is believed that if the temperature is hotter then the reaction rate will occur faster.
This is because the heat will make the particles move faster.

Cystochrome C Oxidase Lab Report
Intro When first learning about cells, students are told the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the
cell. While this is true, most of the energy made actually comes from the electron transport chain
that occurs on the inner membrane of the mitochondria. A series of proteins are active in the
electron transport chain, but the fourth one, cytochrome c oxidase, is the one that is important for
our purposes. Cytochrome c oxidase is a large integral protein, that is made up of several subunits,
some which provide the target of aspirin (Norman, C., et al.). The subunits together have a very
important role that is universal though eukaryotic cells. Cytochrome c oxidase can reduce 250
molecules of O in a second. The energy released from the oxidation... Show more content on

The R^2 value is only 0.9411, indicating that this line is not close to a perfect fit, which is also
seen from the relationship of the data points to the line, but it is accurate enough to give
something to go off of. From here the true concentration could be calculated by working the
calculations from the 40X and 100X solutions to the pure sample. Once the true concentrations
were known, the total protein in the samples could be calculated. The results of the calculations
are found in Table 1. By taking the calculated total protein, and the average cytochrome c oxidase
assay we are able to find the specific activity of cytochrome c. A negative value in the
cytochrome c oxidase assay was preferred, as that indicated less color than the cytochrome c
provided, and thus that cytochrome c oxidase was present to react. All negative numbers were
converted to positive numbers, and as there was no logical way for a higher concentration of
cytochrome c to occur, the samples that resulted in a positive result, were determined to be a
failure to detect the presence of cytochrome c oxidase. Samples 1, 3, and 4 did not have any
cytochrome c oxidase in them, and were therefore not capable of having a specific activity of
cytochrome c

Quotes On Dehumanization In Night
Although Eliezer survived the bloodcurdling Holocaust, countless others succumbed to the Nazi s
inhumanity. The Nazi s progressively reduced the Jewish people to being little more than things
which were a nuisance to them. Throughout Night, dehumanization consistently took place, as the
Nazis oppressed the Jewish citizens. The Germans dehumanized Eliezer, his father, and other fellow
Jewsfor the duration of the memoir Night, which had a lasting effect on Eliezer s identity, attitude
and outlook. Wiesel displays the Nazi s vicious actions to accentuate the way by which they
dehumanize the Jewish population. The Nazis had an abundance of practices to dehumanize the
Jews including beatings, starvation, separation of families, crude murders, forced labor, among
other horrific actions.
Even though Eliezer was able to persevere, he was dehumanized by the Nazi s in an atrocious and
cold blooded fashion. When a human is emotionally and physically stripped of their pride, it
weakens his or her will to live. The Nazis targeted the Jews humanity, and slowly dissolved their
feeling of being an independant human. Elie Wiesel states He took his time between lashes, only
the first really hurt...twenty four...twenty five. It was over. I had not realized it but I had fainted.
(Wiesel 62). In the case of the Jews doing anything askew, they were to be punished in barbaric
ways. This whipping by the Nazi s had a drastic affect on Eliezer s identity, because before his
punishment Eliezer had not yet altered his inquisitive mindset. Eliezer was at the wrong place at
the wrong time, and as a result he was thrashed and trounced on by one of the German soldiers. This
traumatized Eliezer and brought fear upon him, changing his attitude.
The Nazi s not only dehumanized Eliezer, but they reduced his father from a human being into a
thing that was merely a nuisance. The Nazi s believed that they were on a higher level than the
Jews, so they tried to take whatever dignity the Jews had remaining. Wiesel proves this when
stating he slapped my father with such a force that he fell down and then crawled back to his
place on all fours (Wiesel 39). The instant that the officer hit Eliezer s father, Eliezer was in utter
shock. His

Black Culture In Africa
Black culture derives from interpretations of traits and other things from Africa.
Africa is continuously recreated and then reconstructed.
African culture is always abused by a large array of different people.
Africa is essential to the making of popular culture, black culture, and new religious systems with
fused roots.
Africa is also essential to the imagery of a modern nation.
The result of Africa being a contest icon is a struggle between white intellectuals, black leaders,
popular and elite culture, conformity and protest, and political ideas developed in the west and their
reinterpretation in Latin America to claim it.
A Brazilian system of race relations creates a uniquely Brazilian Africa that hold both protest and
conformation.
In Brazil, areas like the state of Bahia and the region around the city of Salvador have maintained
African Traits in its black culture.
In Bahia, a debate between modern sociologist and anthropologist took place. This debate

As mentioned earlier, self regulation is so intimately related to crime that it could be said that
antisocial behavior begins where self regulation ends (Delisi, 2013). Another fact to consider is the
fact that most behavior is learned and/or imitated to include criminal behavior and thought
processes behind criminality are also a learned process. I think that the link is how that biological
factor has been addressed and treated before that person commits crime, in other words besides the
biological issue one has to take into account how and what has happened in that persons past along
with taking into account that persons environment in which he/she was raised in which may or may
not have failed to influenced him/her positively.
Finally, the impairments in personality functioning must be relatively stable across time and
situations, cannot be better understood as developmentally or culturally normative, and cannot be
solely due to the direct physiological effects of a substance or medical condition (Lynam, amp;

crime within a human.

However, how can Batman s actions be viewed? He is, like the villain, highly skilled in what he

the company is reflected in the opinion of Fortune who have identified Wal Mart as one of the
world s most admired companies. In 2004 Wal Mart had been hiring 1.4 million employees
making it the largest corporation in the world. Wal Mart s share prices have also been stable at
time of stock market volatility. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The store management is decentralized, allowing individual store managers more power in decision
making, as they were expected to come up with their own methods for cutting prices and increasing
sales. This is done differently in the competitors stores, where policies are brought in regional
offices. Superior personal customer service offered at the stores from 9am to 9pm six days a week,
with shorter working hours on Sundays (Supercentres were open continuously) together with
specialized employee training provided customers with an atmosphere in which they were happy to
spend their time and money.
Marketing
Wal Mart s slogan Everyday Low Prices is the milestone of their communication with the public as
well as their basic business principle. The corporation mainly used word of mouth advertising and
spent a lot less on marketing than the industry competitors. A strong emphasis was put on
patriotism and national causes, when it comes to the U.S. market.
Information Technology
Wal Mart s advanced data mining tools allow them to fine tune and improve customer
responsiveness, giving customers what and when they want in offer. It can be compared to
Human Resource Management
In Wal Mart, employees are valued and empowered. All employees are called associates
symbolizing their importance to the firm. The belief is also that the employees will work harder

The Role Of Economic Development As Measured Through Levels
Gender inequality has been and is still a problem being faced worldwide. It has inhibited the social,
economical, and political growth of women in all different nations, especially third world
countries. There are various implications that change the level of inequality such as education,
culture, religion, democratization of countries, years of independence, and most importantly,
economic development. (Dollar Gatti, 1999). This paper is examining the role economic
development as measured through levels GDP (low, medium, high) plays in the level of gender
empowerment in a country. After reading various studies, I have concluded that when regarding
gender empowerment it is specific to the empowerment of women It is hypothesized that increased
economic development will display higher levels of gender empowerment. The following three
literature reviews will demonstrate and support the hypothesis. The first article, Gender Inequality,
Income, and Growth: Are Good Times Good for Women? by David Dollar and Roberta Gotti, is a
cumulated work that was published by The World Bank under the Development Research Group.
Dollar and Roberti addressed three specific questions that they felt were strong factors in the
implications economic development brought upon gender empowerment. The questions were
constructed in efforts to respond to the macroeconomic data revealed through its answers. The
questions are: 1. Is lower investment in girls education simply an efficient economic

Should Prison Gangs Become More Prevalent Inside Our...
Prison gangs within the penal system are problematic and a multifaceted issue for several reasons.
One reason gangs are so problematic in the penal system is due to the threat they impose on others,
including other types of gang bangers, non gang affiliated inmates, correctional staff, prison
administration, and the overall security of the facility itself. According to research, A composite
measure of gangmisconduct represents the threat that particular gangs pose to prison order
(Gaes, Wallace, Gilman, Saffron, Suppa, 2002). In fact, There is little doubt that prison gangs
are the source of considerable misconduct and present serious challenges to the management of
prisons, which is why numerous strategies have been employed to control and suppress gang
activity (Pyrooz Mitchell, 2015). Why are prison gangs becoming more prevalent inside our
nation s prison system? Since the 1950s, prison gangs have developed in American prisons more
rapidly than in the previous years. Correction staff recognizes some prison gangs as being a
security threat group or STG. A security threat group is a term for prison gangs that describes how
they negatively impact the security of prison operations (Smallagher Smykla, 2015). Gangs have
increased in size and popularity with the penal system because of desegregation with the facilities.
After desegregation happened in the 1960s, inmates regarded desegregation as a need to join
together racially, especially as a means of

Thomas Maupin Biography Essay
As Thomas Maupin s grandson and musical performing partner, I have known him nearly all my
life and, at the time of this writing, I have been performing music semi professionally with him for
approximately nine years. From the time I first became enamored with music, he tried to ensure the
healthy development of my interest by providing me access to his large collection of Old Time,
Country, and Bluegrass music, including field recordings he had made of rural musicians, in
addition to bringing me to several festivals where I was able to hear these forms of music played
live and meet many musicians. Upon my decision to pursue playing the banjo, he provided constant
encouragement and made sure that I was able to make contact with skilled banjoists who were
mentors to me. He has always encouraged me to create my own musical style rather than mimic
others, and to always strive for perfection rather than being content with my musical status quo. Not
only has his enthusiasm and advice led me to pursue musicianship, but his efforts to record rural
musicians and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Relationship Between Societies Of Today And The Environment An interdisciplinary program presented is an investigation of the relationship between societies of today and the environment they/we live in. In my focus particularly are societies of the Westernized parts of the world. Their activities within, attitudes towards, values regarding and comprehensiveness of the complexity of the environmentthey live and operate in. Consequently, my personal goal is to gain a deep knowledge of the interconnectedness of human activity and alterations it does to the environment. Equally, I also aim to understand how attitudes and values (towards the environment) are passed from generations to generations. After successfully accomplishing studies, my goal is to collaborate with the representatives of the younger generations to and promote awareness of their deportment on the more global scale. Academically, my strategy is to pursue Individualized Major in Environment and Society and to successfully accomplish Minor in Psychologywithal. Environment and Society as a traditional Major is offered at the University of California, Berkley and at the University of Minnesota. To enhance the experience of the Individual Major, during the Junior and Senior years at Emmanuel College, I aspire to attend Environmental Forum provided every spring by Colleges of Fenway. As a capstone experience I foresee myself undergoing an internship in a locally based Education Outreach Program2. On this matter, I would like to accentuate that driven by my interest I am ... • 3. Progesterone Progesterone is a steroid hormone that belongs to a group of sex hormones called progestogen. It is secreted primarily by the placenta (during pregnancy), the corpus luteum and adrenal glands. The corpus luteum is a temporary endocrine gland that is produced in a female body after ovulation and is involved in the early stages of pregnancy. If the eggs are not fertilised, the corpus luteum reverts to a corpus albicans and menstruation takes place. If the egg is fertilized, then progesterone is secreted by the placenta. Progesterone has the chemical formula of C21H30O2. Progesterone is composed of three 6 carbon rings and one 5 carbon ring fused together, satisfying the the structure of a steroid. It contains two ketone groups as well as an alkene group and is a hydrophobic molecule. Progesterone s main function is to prepare the lining of the uterus to accept a fertilized egg and allow for further development into a fetus. • 4. Theme Of Racism In Huck Finn The notorious Mark Twain once said Of all the animals, man is the only one that is cruel. He is the only one that inflicts pain for the pleasure of doing it. Having lived at a time where racism and slavery were debatably at their peak, Twain undeniably experienced the cruelty of which humanity is capable. Twain s mindset during the aforementioned quotation was evident in his masterwork Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Especially in recent years, his work is often criticized and even censored for its supposedly racist ideologies. Mainly having to do with the book insisting on referring to the deuteragonist, Jim, and other slaves as niggers . Be that as it may, the deeper you dive into the publication; you would come to find that Twain instead satirizes the concepts of racism and slaveryand even comes across as having an anti slavery perspective. Ironically, one of the best examples of Twain s masterful satire is demonstrated in one of the novel s most off putting moments. The first time the reader is introduced to Jim, they are given a very unfavorable description of the character. Jim is described as illiterate, almost childlike and unintelligent. However, the reader must understand that this description of Jim is supplied from Huck s point of view. Although Huck himself is presented to the reader as not being inherently racist, he was raised by incredibly racist individuals who implanted their beliefs and hate into Huck. As distasteful as this description is, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Movements And The Civil Rights Movement When a diversity of communities come together to demand social or political change it is evident that something is wrong with the judicial system. Throughout American History, millions of people worldwide have gathered to support each other by gathering and protesting for what they believe is right. As a comedy, Twelfth Night is obviously intending to not only entertain its audience but also point out problems in society. It is imperative to entire merit of the play not to be realistic but to allow for empathy. Therefor to have a comedyof complete lightheartedness there would be no balance and hence no avenue for audience interaction. Another social theme that is not unreservedly humorous dealt with in Twelfth Night is the idea of self awareness. Self awareness is based around being well balanced rather than excessive, therefor to convey this idea neither the characters nor the plot can be completely, inadvertently happy. Self awareness is developed by both Olivia and Orsino; they were both creatures of lavishness. Orsino plunged deeply into his unrequited almost courtly love for Olivia his verbose, dramatic language demonstrates this, If music be the food of love, play on; / Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, / The appetite may sicken and die. This passionate plea and later exchanges demonstrate Orsino s developing character. Initially he is more in love with the idea of love. We as the audience and survey of this activity may find his self absorption laughable but as he develops into a well rounded character, it is evident why Shakespeare portrayed him in this way. Essay On Alexander II And The Failure Of The Serfs Intentions of Alexander II and the Failure of the Emancipation of the Serfs In the 19th century it was estimated that about 50 per cent of the 40,000,000 peasants in Russia were serfs, who worked on the land and were owned by the Russian nobility, the Tsar and religious foundations. This had been true for centuries; in 1861, however, this was all changed when Tsar Alexander II emancipated the serfs and gave them freedom from ownership. Alexander s decision was based on many reasons, and did not have the desired consequences, for the serfs at least. A large part of the problem was serfdom Russia needed millions of industrial workers, to free up land and to force the nobility to relinquish power to a certain extent. The Tsar was also aware that much of western Europe looked on serfdom as being akin to slavery, and looked down on Russia as a result. As one historian has remarked: The strip system, involving the use of antiquated farming implements and techniques, had long ago been abandoned on the agriculturally advanced nations. Its continued use in Russia was a major reason why the nation could not meet it s food needs. [1] Alexander was also acutely aware of the threat of a serf uprising. Despite the general contentedness of the majority of serfs, there were a significant number who were not happy, and many groups of political activists, such as the Narodniks, had begun stirring up discontentment. In a population of 67 million, Russia had 23 million serfs belonging to 103,000 landlords. Serfs therefore outnumbered their landlords by over 200 to one, and so Alexander was right to be concerned about what might happen should a large uprising occur. A master poet, Emily Dickinson employs darkness as a metaphor many times throughout her poetry. In We grow accustomed to the dark (#428) she talks of the newness that awaits when we fit our Vision to the Dark. As enigmatic and shrouded in mystery as the dark she explores, Dickinson s poetry seems our only door to understanding the recluse. As she wrote to her friend T.W. Higginson on April 15, 1862, the Mind is so near itself it cannot see, distinctly (Letters 253). In this musing, she acquiesces to a notion that man remains locked in an internal struggle with himself. This inner... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the poem has fluidity despite its apparent scarcity of rhyme. After examining the alteration of syllables in each line, a pattern is revealed in this poem concerning darkness. The first nine lines alternate between 8 and 6 syllables. These lines are concerned, as any narrative is, with exposition. These lines set up darkness as an internal conflict to come. The conflict intensifies in lines 10 and 11 as we are bombarded by an explosion of 8 syllables in each line. These lines present the conflict within one s own mind at its most desperate. After this climax, the syllables in the last nine lines resolve the conflict presented. In these lines, Dickinson presents us with an archetypal figure that is faced with a conflict: the bravest hero. These lines present the resolution in lines that alternate between 6 and 7 syllables. Just as the syllables decrease, the falling action presents us with a final insight. This insight discusses how darkness is an insurmountable entity that, like the hero, we must face to continue straight through Life (line 20). The next seemingly arbitrary decision is Dickinson s capitalization. The capitalization at the beginning of the sentence must be capitalized; therefore, we ll focus on the capitalizations that lie within each sentence. In this poem, each of these words is a noun. • 20. Elements Of Magical Realism Various readers tend to misinterpret the concept of magical realism when developing the genre as a whole. The literary or artistic genre magical realism is the adding of surreal elements within a story in an attempt to create a realistic narrative without distracting the narrative flow. There are several characteristics having to do with the intertwining of elements in which unexplainable events are seen to be an everyday event, allowing the reader to get a better understanding of the author s intention. In the following stories, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World, Bless Me, Ultimaand Lightis Like Water, there are several different elements that characterize magical realism. Magical realism is evident within the stories, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings and Bless Me, Ultima, because they are set in an otherwise ordinary world, with cultural realities and the events within the stories are not always explained by universal laws or familiar logic. The cultural reality in A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings reveals a lot about the people who follow the faith Catholicism. The people in the town tried to make the old man eat some mothballs (paragraph 8) because it was supposedly the food prescribes for angels. This show how the people of the Catholic religion did not think of the old man as magical, they really believed he was an angel and expected him to act certain way since he was an angel. In addition, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings demonstrates how the events within the stories are not always explained by universal laws or familiar logic when the townspeople were introduced to the old man (the extraordinary). The old man is described as a ragpicker, with only a few faded hairs on his head and having very few teeth in his mouth, but despite these human characteristics the old man is treated inhumanly. The townspeople treated the old man with no respect, he was penned up with the chickens and displayed, forced to eat mush and branded. The fact the townspeople dehumanized the old man because of unfamiliar characteristics portrays how human nature is not accepting to those who are different and will only accept those who are like them. ... This newfound information influenced my current stance when re taking the inventory. There were a few questions which I had a change of heart in, most of these questions circled around the philosophy of moral relativism and moral absolutism. At the start of the course, I believed that right and wrong was not determined by one s culture. I believed that every being acknowledges that there are certain overarching morals, i.e., thou shalt not kill. By the end of the course, I changed my opinion on the matter; this change is influenced by the philosopher, Ruth Benedict. Benedict s philosophy of moral relativism states that morality is culturally relative morality is dependent upon what is socially approved, and that good varies among different societies. Each society has their own expectations of behavior, and that in turn molds the morality of the individual. For example, an individual being brought up in Nazi Germany will view the treatment of Jews as normal , not batting an eye, in seeing them murdered. In all the multivariate analyses, gender, age (over 21 or not) and ethnicity (white or not) were entered as control variables (Andrews, amp; Wilding, 2004). In the secondary study a structured, self administered questionnaire was developed as a mode of data collection. The questionnaire comprised of three sections, students profile; Perceived Stress Scale (PSS); and Stress Factors Survey (Rafidah, et al, 2009). 2.How were the participants protected? In the primary study ethical permission was obtained from the University and students were fully briefed about the research with assurance of anonymity and confidentiality (Andrews, amp; Wilding, 2004). There is no evidence in the secondary study that the participants were protected in any way. The study does not reference permissions or consent of any kind (Rafidah, et al, 2009). Most people view immigration as a bad thing, something that harms the nation and takes valuable jobs meant for the citizens of said nation. What people don t look at, is what about the jobs no one else would take besides these immigrants, such as crop picking and other menial tasks. Intelligent and ambitious legal immigrants who want a better life in America also bring their culture and a source of cheap labor. • 31. How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Reaction A chemical reaction is a process that involves the movement of the molecules in a substance. All chemical reactions involve both reactants and products. Reactants are substances that cause a chemical reaction, and products are substances that are generated in the reaction. The reaction rate for a reactant or product in a particular reaction is defined as how quickly or slowly a reaction takes place. In general, the reactions between covalent compounds are slow. For example rusting of iron. In the same way weathering of rocks takes place in millions of years. An example of a fast reaction rateis in an explosion when the reaction has to happen quickly. In general, the reactions between ionic compounds are fast. This reaction is also called neutralisation reaction. Reaction rates can be altered in four ways these are; The temperature is increased, the concentration of a dissolved reactant is increased, the pressure of a reacting gas is increased, solid reactants are broken into smaller pieces and if a catalyst is used or added. In this investigation it was tested if a chemical reactionwould occur faster if the surrounding temperature was hotter. Aim The aim of this experiment was to find out how temperature affects the rate of reaction between Sodium thiosulfate (hypo) and hydrochloric acid. Hypothesis It is believed that if the temperature is hotter then the reaction rate will occur faster. This is because the heat will make the particles move faster. Materials Dilute ... • 32. Cystochrome C Oxidase Lab Report Intro When first learning about cells, students are told the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. While this is true, most of the energy made actually comes from the electron transport chain that occurs on the inner membrane of the mitochondria. A series of proteins are active in the electron transport chain, but the fourth one, cytochrome c oxidase, is the one that is important for our purposes. Cytochrome c oxidase is a large integral protein, that is made up of several subunits, some which provide the target of aspirin (Norman, C., et al.). The subunits together have a very important role that is universal though eukaryotic cells. Cytochrome c oxidase can reduce 250 molecules of O in a second. The energy released from the oxidation... Once the true concentrations were known, the total protein in the samples could be calculated. The results of the calculations are found in Table 1. By taking the calculated total protein, and the average cytochrome c oxidase assay we are able to find the specific activity of cytochrome c. A negative value in the cytochrome c oxidase assay was preferred, as that indicated less color than the cytochrome c provided, and thus that cytochrome c oxidase was present to react. All negative numbers were converted to positive numbers, and as there was no logical way for a higher concentration of cytochrome c to occur, the samples that resulted in a positive result, were determined to be a failure to detect the presence of cytochrome c oxidase. Samples 1, 3, and 4 did not have any cytochrome c oxidase in them, and were therefore not capable of having a specific activity of cytochrome c ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Quotes On Dehumanization In Night Although Eliezer survived the bloodcurdling Holocaust, countless others succumbed to the Nazi s inhumanity. The Nazi s progressively reduced the Jewish people to being little more than things which were a nuisance to them. Throughout Night, dehumanization consistently took place, as the Nazis oppressed the Jewish citizens. The Germans dehumanized Eliezer, his father, and other fellow Jewsfor the duration of the memoir Night, which had a lasting effect on Eliezer s identity, attitude and outlook. Wiesel displays the Nazi s vicious actions to accentuate the way by which they dehumanize the Jewish population. The Nazis had an abundance of practices to dehumanize the Jews including beatings, starvation, separation of families, crude murders, forced labor, among other horrific actions. Even though Eliezer was able to persevere, he was dehumanized by the Nazi s in an atrocious and cold blooded fashion. When a human is emotionally and physically stripped of their pride, it weakens his or her will to live. The Nazis targeted the Jews humanity, and slowly dissolved their feeling of being an independant human. Elie Wiesel states He took his time between lashes, only the first really hurt...twenty four...twenty five. It was over. I had not realized it but I had fainted. (Wiesel 62). In the case of the Jews doing anything askew, they were to be punished in barbaric ways. This whipping by the Nazi s had a drastic affect on Eliezer s identity, because before his punishment Eliezer had not yet altered his inquisitive mindset. Eliezer was at the wrong place at the wrong time, and as a result he was thrashed and trounced on by one of the German soldiers. This traumatized Eliezer and brought fear upon him, changing his attitude. The Nazi s not only dehumanized Eliezer, but they reduced his father from a human being into a thing that was merely a nuisance. The Nazi s believed that they were on a higher level than the Jews, so they tried to take whatever dignity the Jews had remaining. Wiesel proves this when stating he slapped my father with such a force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours (Wiesel 39). Another fact to consider is the fact that most behavior is learned and/or imitated to include criminal behavior and thought processes behind criminality are also a learned process. I think that the link is how that biological factor has been addressed and treated before that person commits crime, in other words besides the biological issue one has to take into account how and what has happened in that persons past along with taking into account that persons environment in which he/she was raised in which may or may not have failed to influenced him/her positively. • 43. Should Prison Gangs Become More Prevalent Inside Our... Prison gangs within the penal system are problematic and a multifaceted issue for several reasons. One reason gangs are so problematic in the penal system is due to the threat they impose on others, including other types of gang bangers, non gang affiliated inmates, correctional staff, prison administration, and the overall security of the facility itself. According to research, A composite measure of gangmisconduct represents the threat that particular gangs pose to prison order (Gaes, Wallace, Gilman, Saffron, Suppa, 2002). In fact, There is little doubt that prison gangs are the source of considerable misconduct and present serious challenges to the management of prisons, which is why numerous strategies have been employed to control and suppress gang activity (Pyrooz Mitchell, 2015). Why are prison gangs becoming more prevalent inside our nation s prison system? Since the 1950s, prison gangs have developed in American prisons more rapidly than in the previous years. Correction staff recognizes some prison gangs as being a security threat group or STG. A security threat group is a term for prison gangs that describes how they negatively impact the security of prison operations (Smallagher Smykla, 2015).
