Wal-Mart At A Grocery Store
As the weekend comes to an end most people are getting prepared for the week ahead of them. If there anything
like me they come to realize they need groceries because what is left will not last till the coming weekend. As I
get into my car I think to myself how much I dread going into Wal Mart. Wal Mart is always packed with people
at any time, any day. As I grocery shop I see all sorts of people doing obscured things. At Wal Mart there are the
leisurely shoppers, the coupon queens, and the speedy shoppers. The first type of shoppers I recognized at Wal
Mart are the leisurely shoppers. These people pull into Wal Mart and go up and down every parking isle so they
can find just the right parking spot. As soon as they find the perfect spot

Pakistanarian Militancy Statement
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:
Sectarianism and militancy has become a major security issue for Pakistan. The history of sectarian conflict in
Pakistan is as old as the existence of this country. But the militant culture in Pakistan has been on the rise for
more than a decade. Sectarian killings and extremism has posed a serious threat to society. This has not only
affected the society but also its institutions. Pakistan has witnessed various trends of militancy from intolerance to
extremism, radicalization and violence. The coordination of al Qaeda with the Taliban and the induction of
sectarian extremist groups into this have proved to be a deadly mix and have given a complicated tilt to the
militancy issue.
The increasing sectarian violence and militancy in Pakistan has converted a tolerant society into an increasingly
intolerant society. The need for embracing diversity and pluralism has been felt to avoid straining the social fabric
irreparably. Sectarian militancy and extremism has not only created disharmony in the society and is acting as
repellent from Islam for followers as well as disbelievers but is also a threat to internal security.

After 9/11 and joining Pakistan the war on terror, there has been a significant deterioration in the security
situation in Pakistan . The term militant can be described as followers of group or religion or a party who
aggressively and violently promote an idea in the name of a movement (and many a times have an extreme
approach to solution for their goal). The various movements that seek to apply militancy as a solution, or who use
militancy to rationalize their solutions for issues in the modern world, seldom share common tactics. Militant
groups may use force or violence directly, either to defend themselves or otherwise and have justifications for the
use of force using the ideological expression of their particular

Silkwood
The story of one of the most famous worker s compensation cases, Karen Silkwood vs. Kerr McGee, was the
inspiration for hundreds of articles, several books, televisions shows, and a movie. In the early 1970s, Silkwood
worked as a lab analyst in an Oklahoma Kerr McGee plant which manufactured plutonium pins used as fuel for
nuclear reactors (The Karen Silkwood Story, 2004).. Plutonium, a radioactive chemical element, is known to be
highly toxic and carcinogenic. Silkwood, an elected union official and outspoken critic of Kerr McGee s health
and safety practices, began collecting and recording information to substantiate her charges that employees at the
plant were dangerously exposed to toxic chemicals. In early November 1974, Silkwood was ... Show more

If cancer is developed from a radiation exposure on the job, the workers compensation law would cover it.
However, the contamination resulted in hysteria and fear in Silkwood in which she required medical treatment
and examination. The Workers Compensation Act required reimbursement for medical attention from job related
accidents (Walsh p 496). Silkwood had missed time from work during testing, and she incurred medical expense
which was respectfully for paid by Kerr McGee. But even if she had not, work time loss and medical expense are
not necessary requisites to finding an injury is exclusively covered by workers compensation. The court
concluded they made a mistake in not ruling that the issue of personal injury must be determined under the
Workers Compensation Act. The disposition on this issue eliminated the need to discuss the sufficiency of the
evidence and other arguments relating to the amount of damages for personal injury and the fairness of the trial
on that aspect of the case. It is somewhat unclear how Kerr McGee determined that the federal regulation of
nuclear energy prevents application of the workers compensation law for injuries on the job. The existence here
of significant damage to Silkwood s personal property in her apartment required the court to consider additional
issues recognized in the appeal. In conclusion, the Workers Compensation Act applies only to

Sugar Digestion Lab Report
The normal process of digestion of sugar in the body: 1. After the sugar gets to the stomach, it is broken down
into pieces due to the stomach acid. 2. The stomach empties the sugar into your intestines where it becomes
monosaccharide. 3. Most sugar digestion happens in the intestines. Intestinal enzymes complete the sugar
breakdown and then it is absorbed into the bloodstream, providing us with energy. Before watching the video, I
had dinner. I got chicken breast, marinated Brussel sprouts, two small red baked potatoes, and apple juice. The
chicken breast and Brussel sprouts don t contain sugars. The nutritional value of the two potatoes is as follows
Only one potato has 2.5 gm sugar + 1g Glucose + 0.8g Fructose + 0.8g Sucrose = 5.1g

Methodology Involves Qualitative Research
4.2 Choose an appropriate methodology in terms of the research question
Research methodology generally involves qualitative research or quantitative research, or a mixture of both. A
quantitative research methodology involves the analysis of data collected from a large number of surveys or
interviews. On the other hand, methodologies for qualitative research often involve using surveys or interviews to
collect information about people their attitudes, experiences and behaviors.
The Methodology that will be used in terms of the research question will be the qualitative research which
involves a phenomenological perspective. The researcher aims to evaluate the meaning of events for people in
particular situations, the characteristic of qualitative research are as follows.

Pharmacy Essay
Helping people on their path to better health is a quote used by CVSHealth, I first heard it during the orientation
for my pharmacy technician job. I love this quote because it really defines my purpose for wanting to be a
pharmacist in the simplest way. My journey to becoming a pharmacists consist of why I selected pharmacy as a
career, future goals, and my backgrounds that will help me achieve the goals that I set for myself.
I came into college knowing that I wanted to work in the medical field, but without really knowing what
profession I wanted to pursue. There were many reasons why I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field
which eventually led to pursuing a pharmacy career. One reason was wanting a career where I m regularly ...

One of my long term goals is to start an outreach program or help an existing one where I can educate my
community on the importance of drug regulation, interaction, and always updating their physicians and
pharmacists on what drugs they re using and how they respond to those drugs. I feel like patient care should go
further then what a job description says, and we should be helping educate our community outside of the
workplace when given the opportunity.
My educational background consist of taking high level science courses which I excelled in and my professional
background consist shadowing a local pharmacists for 40 hours during a week where I got a closer look at an
everyday pharmacy environment, also I ve recently begun working at CVS as a Pharmacy technician to get more
hands on experience in a pharmacy setting. These experiences I believe will help me excel in pharmacy school
where I can further build up my background to achieve my goal of becoming a retail pharmacist. One of my long
term goals is to help educate my community on drug problems and regulations, to achieve this goal I believe my
professional and personal background play a key role. My professional background in the future will help me
achieve this goal, it will consist of becoming a pharmacists who s established the respect of his community to
where I m looked at as a credible speaker by the community. As for my personal background, I think having

Mechanism Of Natural Selection
On this slide we have a more fine approach to the natural selection and its mechanism.
On the left we have a cartoon in which Darwin explains how the natural selection works to a hostile alien who
claims that he would take the Earth in virtue of the survival of the fittest (Spencer, 1864). This catchphrase was
coined by sociologist and biologist Herbert Spencer and actually was used by Darwin later, but always in the
context of the reproductive success (Darwin, 1868). Actually in the long term the natural selection equals to the
reproductive success. If an individual is the strongest but it cannot leave descendants, his fitness will be 0.
So, in the end, what matters for natural selection is the number of descendants in the long term. If

The Breakdown of Ithaka
In the lands of Pylos and Sparta, the kingdoms are prospering and in the favor of the gods. However, in Ithaka,
the kingdom is falling to pieces. Why are the kingdoms so different in their success? Homer puts these three
kingdoms side by side in The Odyssey, making it easy to find similarities and differences between the three.
Pylos and Sparta, ruled by Nestor and Menelaos, could not be more successful. Ithaka, currently has no king in its
throne and chaos is resulting from the battle for the coveted seat. Compared to the kingdoms of Nestor and
Menelaos, Ithaka is breaking down from the loss of order and their leader, Odysseus.
Sparta and Pylos are successful, thriving kingdoms, so what makes Ithaka break down? Menelaos has a mansion
that is the way the court of Zeus must be (4.72). He has no end of riches, and Sparta is prospering right along
with him. Menelaos rules with compassion and this makes him a great ruler. In Pylos, Nestor sacrifices an
impressive heifer for Athena; his goldsmith gloved each horn in a pure foil beaten out of the gold that Nestor
gave him (3.437 438). This costly sacrifice is no expense, because Pylos is a wealthy country. Also, what is added
to the success of Pylos, is the great rule of Nestor. He is a wise and generous soul, who strides to keep his
kingdom under the favor of the gods. Athena truly favors Nestor in which she wishes honor to Nestor and his
sons (3.58). There is no mortal half so wise (1.64) as Odysseus, the ruler of

Byod Reflection Paper
Before this week s discussion I had no idea of the term BYOD and when I find out what it meant, I immediately
disagreed with the idea of allowing employees to bring their own device to work. Before I go on with the reason
for my disagreement with this term or policy I would like to mention Bring your own device (BYOD) defined as
an IT policy where employees are allowed or encouraged to use their personal mobile devices to work,
increasingly, notebook computers to access the company s data and systems. This policy allows employees four
types of access which are mentioned as the following:
1. Unlimited access for personal devices.
2. Access only to non sensitive systems and data.
3. Access, but with IT control over personal devices, applications, and stored data.
4. Access, while preventing local storage of data on personal devices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As access #3 says IT could control your personal device, so how much privacy can we get if our own company is
controlling your own personal computer? This a definitely something I would not want, plus my personality type
does not like mixing business with pleasure, in other words, I leave work at work and at home I try my best to not
bring work home. Another thing that I find risky is allowing employees to have sensitive data or any work related
information in their personal computer. This could create a chain of information misused and in addition to
having the client s data floating around like their privacy does not

My Marin A Short Story
If I turn my head to the left, I can look out and see Mt Baker through the masts of the sailboats here in the
Marina. The view changes daily depending on the weather. Right now the peaks on Mt Baker are cold and sharp,
covered in snow. I can gauge the wind just by looking at the flagpoles and the compass I placed on my desk
letting me know which way is up. I am constantly confused as to which direction I am facing, confusion which
increases with my age. I always took pride in my memory, being able to remember names and faces of classmates
from 36 years ago, but since starting this job a year ago, I find my memory not as good as it used to be.
Thankfully, most everyone here at the Marina are at that stage in their lives also, so it is ok to ask over and over

The Mathematics Of Blood Alcohol Concentration
The Mathematics of Blood Alcohol Concentration
As I approached my sixteenth birthday, I began to study for my G1 written test in order to receive my drivers
licence. While doing a practice test, I came across a statistic that stated, In the United States in 2013, it was
estimated that 10 076 people were killed in crashes that involved one or more drunk drivers and 290 000 people
were injured in these accidents . I had heard a variation of this statistic many times, however I didn t truly grasp
the magnitude of these numbers until I began to reflect on the effects of driving under the influence. As a
potential new driver, I was concerned about the use of alcohol while driving so I began to wonder how toxins,
specifically alcohol, react within our bodies. I also wondered how, or even if, this interaction could be represented
through the use of mathematical analysis.
In my research I discovered for myself a field known as pharmacokinetics, which is a branch of pharmacology
that deals with the interactions of drugs in our bodies. In pharmacokinetics, the interaction of alcohol with the
body can be visually represented using a concentration time graph, where the concentration can be graphed as a
function with respect to time in hours. The concentration in this case refers to Blood Alcohol Concentration
(BAC), which is the amount of alcohol in 100 mL of blood with units, mg/100mL, or often expressed as a
percent. BAC is a means by which doctors can determine a person s

Passivity vs. Passion in the Perks of Being a Wallflower
Passivity Vs. Passion The Perks of Being a Wallflower is by no means a typical narrative. Taking the form of an
epistolary novel presented as a series of letters from a boy who calls himself Charlie, but notes that he will
change names and minor details so for the sake of his anonymity, the short novel tackles themes such as
pedophilia, drug use, depression, abortion and many more complex issues. Stuck in the middle of the mix is a
young boy who certainly is not the archetypal protagonist, the novel s wallflower. Subjected to witness the
hardships of those around him, he rarely goes out on a limb to achieve much gratification for himself, remaining
socially dormant instead. However, in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, author Stephen ... Show more content on

This novel parallels Charlie s psyche early in the book extremely well in that he is much like the character who is
the focus of the book, Boo Radley: shy, misunderstood, and original. In the midst of his conversation over the
book, Bill encourages Charlie to stop observing others so much and to start participating. Charlie shares this
problematic social symptom with Boo Radley, though he never before had looked at himself as an outsider. This
suggestion leads to an uncharacteristic gap of two weeks between letters , which Charlie apologizes for. However
in the next letter, Charlie is very excited to share the news that while participating he made two new friends: Sam
and Patrick. Patrick is a senior boy in Charlie s shop class, and Sam is Patrick s stepsister whom Charlie sees as
being unconventionally beautiful. For the remainder of the novel, Patrick is not only a great friend to Charlie, but
also he provides counsel that is very necessary, as Charlie is only just beginning to participate. While in Patrick s

the Australian s feelings towards the event using pre existing myths to portray this tragedy of war. Gallipoli was

An Analysis in the Caltech Rationale
In the analysis of the events and inspirations in my life that led to my decision on where to attend college, I view
the motif of puzzles and games of logic stemming from my infancy into the current day as a major component of
the reason I picked Caltech over Penn, the final two colleges in narrowing down my college search. Caltech, a
very small school of 235 students per grade represented hardcore academics with an infamously difficult core
curriculum, focused mainly in pure and applied math and sciences, went at odds with the University of
Pennsylvania s class size of 2400, representing a school more renowned for its Wharton School of Business than
its sciences and for the college and social experiences, as it s widely known as the Social Ivy. The decision
between these two extremes an Ivy League prestige and a fun four years versus academic rigor and a strenuous
undergraduate experience filled with all nighters represents a microcosm of my values as the amalgamation of my
past experiences, which, due to the motif of puzzles, contributed to my personal convictions for (1) the study of
some form of mathematics, possibly consolidated with real life applications, and (2) my personal philosophy of
striving for knowledge and being at the top of my field, no matter the sacrifice. As a toddler, I loved to sit with
my grandma and work for hours on jigsaw puzzles of increasing difficulty, as the pictures got bigger and the
pieces got smaller. This led to my appreciation of

How Is Music Formed
When listening to music do you ever wonder how it was formed? We do not think about that. So how is music
formed? Music is formed when a sound is produced when something vibrates. The vibrating body causes the
medium around it to vibrate. With the vibrations moving in the air they are called traveling longitudinal waves.
Longitudinal waves allow us to hear. By allowing us to hear, it allows high and low pressure to form called
compression and rarefaction. What behaviors do air vibrations cause? They cause a Standing wave. A standing
wave is the result of the wave reflecting off the end of the tube and interfering with itself. Vibration inside a tube

Theme Of Fate In Oedipus The King
Oedipus the King: Fate or Free will Throughout Oedipus the King, the concept of fate and free will plays an
essential part in Oedipus destruction. This story describes the suffering of Oedipus as a result of a misfortune of
which he has no control over. Oedipus is a play that demonstrates how a person s life can either be destined to
take a certain path or be based on the decisions a person makes throughout their life. There are no oracles or
prophecies that can determine how an individual s life turns out to be, but according to Sophocles the gods cursed
Oedipus even before he was born. This is a tragic event of a conflict between the powerful gods, his blindness, a
man s inability to change his destiny and his intelligence. Oedipus does not deserve all the tragedies that
happened to him, and he is a victim of fate. The gods had already proclaimed Oedipus fate even before he knew
it. His fate has been bound since the day he was born and there is no way it can be avoided. The herdsman says If
you are the man he says you are, you re bred to misery . (1361 1362) This means that he was born to be
miserable, no matter what kind of person he turns out to be. Everyone already knew the outcome would turn out
horrible as it is expected. E.R Dodds says ...is that man has no free will but is a puppet in the hands of the gods
who pull the strings that make him dance. (35) This shows how the gods are controlling him and his future life.
The gods had cursed him which means he has been controlled since the beginning just like puppets. This
metaphor serves as a perfect example of what Oedipus goes through.
Some of his actions were unintentional, however some of them were ignorant and this is what s stopping him
from uncovering the truth. The day Oedipus meets Teiresias, he tells him that Oedipus is the murderer of Laius.
Oedipus cannot believe that Teiresias would say such things. He was not convinced of the reality and accuses
Teiresias of being a liar. Oedipus says Not twice shall say calumnies like this and stay unpunished . (415 416)
Oedipus is considered ignorant because although he is given knowledge from the wiser character, he chooses to
ignore the facts and continue looking for the killer. Gould mentions

There are many lessons to be taught in the world some are learned through experience some are learned in times
of struggle others are passed down from generation to generation. Often times in literature the author seeks to

different lessons and themes to be explored. In the story each character is relatable. People of today s society

The second lesson that can be learned from Berniece goes beyond the importance of family it is the importance of
ancestral history. The reason Berniece is so attached to the piano is the family history tied to it. When her
grandparents were freed from slavery her grandfather died over stealing it. Then even past that her mother was
obsessed with playing the piano and cleaned it everyday. She taught Berniece how to play piano on it and her
mother used to say it filled her with great joy to hear Berniece play. But, after her mother died Berniece never
played the piano again. In this scene Boy Willie yet again is trying to sell the piano. Berniece begins to defend
saying, Look at this piano. Mama Ola polished this piano with her tears for seventeen years. For seventeen she
rubbed on it till her hands bled. Then she rubbed the blood in. This is part of the reason Berniece is so attached to

Social Stratification and Class Essay
Today in the United States, we read in the newspapers constantly about the state of classes in our country. For
instance, it is often said at tax time that the Federal budget is balanced on the backs of the middle class. To people
in the lower class, the promise is held that in a capitalist society, by working hard you can lift yourself out of the
lower income bracket to join the middle class. Entrepreneurs who can find a need and fill it can make it into the
upper class. The point is that this kind of thinking, a product of social stratification theory, is ingrained upon our
minds. As a society, we accept it as a fact that we live in a multi tiered class system, and that this is the way it
should be because it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of a social stratification model can be made of the Feudal System, with a dominant nobility (betters).
Barons were at the upper strata, higher than the knights, who were at a lower strata. The subjected masses
(lessers) were serfs and peasants; undoubtedly some were more clever and successful than others who occupied a
lower strata. Another model would be the current United States, where the social strata starts with the upper upper
class, the upper class, the upper middle class, and so on down to the poor, or lower lower class. In highly detailed
social stratification models, trends and analyses are very complex. An excellent example of this is The Process of
Stratification: Trends and Analyses by Robert Hauser and David Featherman. The many pages of tables and
detailed analysis are exceedingly difficult to comprehend, which makes them difficult to use. A model of social
stratification is a snapshot in time which details the society as it exists at that time. In The Persistence of Social
Inequality in America, John Dalphin states that social stratification suggests that a society has divisions,
cleavages, or splits within it. More specifically, it means that a society is divided into hierarchically arranged
levels of families (and,

Traffic Court Observation Paper
I decided to attend a night traffic court session at the Ventura Courthouse. The cases ranged from seat belt
violations to reckless driving. Most of the defendants appeared before the court to request more time to pay the
fines associated with the tickets. I was surprised to see that very few of the people in the courthouse were
pleading not guilty. Only one person showed up to defend a case with legal help from an attorney of some sort.
The first person to claim not guilty was charged with speeding. I tried to get as many of the details of the case as
possible. The facts of the case were as follows: While driving on Bogus Avenue, the defendant was stopped by an

I was unaware that the law does not require drivers to stop for a predetermined length of time. The defendant
pleaded Not Guilty to the charge of violating CVC 22450(a). The facts of the case were as follows: While exiting
the 5 freeway, the defendant claims to have made a brief stop at a stop sign at the intersection at the end of the off
ramp. After the stop, she proceeded to turn right through the intersection. Shortly thereafter, she was stopped by a
officer and was charged with violating CVC 22450(a) Failure to stop for stop sign. The defendant stated that she
told the officer that she had stopped at the limit line as required. The officer agreed and said: You stopped, but
you didn t stop long enough. The defendant stated that the officer seemed to indicate in this statement that he
wanted her to stop for a longer period of time than she actually had. The defendant read from the California
Vehicle Code, the required length of time for a stop is defined in CVC 587 as Stop or stopping... shall mean any
cessation of movement of a vehicle. The defendant then stated that she believed that any cessation of movement
would include the stop she made. She then stressed that the officer, by his statements, seemed to believe that a set
time period for a stop is required though no such set time length is actually provided for in the law. The defendant
also offered that since many drivers do not stop at all at an uncontested stop, the officer may have not had

Community Based Health Promotion Programs
COMMUNITY HEALTH PROMOTION
Introduction
Community Based Health Promotion is a comprehensive, systematic, coordinated approach to long term health
behavior change by influencing the community (cultural) norms through education and community organization.
Studies show that most Americans want to lead healthy lives and are eager to improve their lifestyles. In fact,
many continuously attempt to change unhealthy behaviors, only to fail. Most health promotion strategies assist
individuals in changing health risk behaviors: self help pamphlet distribution, individual counseling, group
education classes, support groups, and health risk appraisals. Careful evaluation of these strategies has shown that
long term behavior change is very difficult for most participants. The failure rate can be 80% or more. The best
predictor of health behavior and long lasting successful behavior change is often the culture in which a person
lives. Health promotion programs need to make it possible for the community to support healthy behaviors. To do
this successfully, the community and its leadership must be mobilized to provide community based health
promotion programs.

The Lasting Implications of the Watergate Scandal
I. Introduction
I am not a crook is one of the most famous quotes from President Richard M. Nixon. Citizens of the United States
of America would hope that their president would never have to defend himself as a crook, but that is just what
happened in the presidency of Richard M. Nixon. President Nixon had to defend himself for not being a crook
because of the events famously known as the Watergate Scandal . In 1972, members of Nixon s re election
committee broke into the Democratic National Committee s Watergate offices and stole top secret documents as
well as trying to get into their phone system. They eventually were caught and so was President Nixon which led
him to his resignation. Even though it was an unfortunate event, there have been positive outcomes because of it.
The lasting implications of the Watergate Scandal have been generally positive on society because of the passing
of Ethics in Government Act, amending the Freedom of Information Act and 42 states passing election reform
laws.
II. Background
Richard M. Nixon was a former vice president who barely won the election in 1968 against Hubert Humphrey for
the Republican party. Once in his presidency, President Nixon pleased and displeased citizens in the United
States. He was not necessarily the most liked president, but he was not the most disliked either. By 1972, it was

Robinson Crusoe Character Analysis
A person may find someone likeable for many different reasons. Maybe the person is charismatic and loyal,
honest and humble, grateful and trustworthy. The likability of the protagonist in Daniel Defoe s novel, Robinson
Crusoe, is often called into question by many of its readers. The story starts with the protagonist, Robinson
Crusoe, leaving home against his father s wishes to voyage across the sea. But misfortune fell upon this voyage in
the form of a great storm. During this storm, Crusoe prays to God, saying that if He saved him, Crusoe would
serve him for the rest of his life. This storm caused Crusoe and his shipmates to abandon ship and watch it fonder.
He survived, forgot his promise to God, was deemed bad luck by the captain and the crew, and was directed to
never again board a ship. Ignoring this, Crusoe boarded another ship, on which he and the crew were captured by
pirates and sold as slaves. He was a slave for three years before he escaped with another slave named Xury. They
are then saved by a Portuguese captain, who keeps Xury and takes Crusoe to Brazil. There Crusoe lives a life
similar to what his father wanted for him, a simple yet content life. He at first vowed to never sail again, but after
getting better acquainted with his neighbor, he was persuaded to travel to Africa with his neighbor to bring slaves,
free of cost, back to their farms, breaking this vow. But he proves to, again, be bad luck. The ship crashes and
Crusoe is the only man to survive. Through all this, and more, Crusoe proves himself to be inconsiderate, selfish,
inhumane, and ungrateful, all unlikable traits. During all of his adventures, Robinson Crusoe was inconsiderate of
his shipmates safety and selfish. His first voyage was literally a shipwreck and it all sparked from his selfish
desire to venture across the seas. He was told by the captain that this was a sign that he was not to be a seafaring
man. (Defoe, 9). Crusoe sailed again, knowing that he was destined for disaster, putting all his shipmates in
danger. And the captain was right. Disaster fell upon him and his shipmates on most of his voyages. On his
second voyage they were boarded and captured by pirates, and sold as slaves. He had almost learned his

Themes Of Unwholly Society
An Unwholly Society
The dystopian novel Unwholly, the second book in the Unwind series by Neal Shusterman, is a twisted story of a
futuristic world where life is not valued in the same way as it is today. When government advertises and pays
citizens to make bad choices, it makes the society corrupt and inhumane. One corrupt thing about this society is
that parents can choose to Unwind their children. Unwinding is when parents can turn their kids over to the
government and the government takes the children apart and uses their body parts for different purposes. A
possible theme for Unwholly is that by following a corrupt society, people begin to develop selfish behavior.
Neal Shusterman uses intense actions and exaggerated description to make his books unique and to help show the
theme and help the reader picture the scene. One area of the book that shows Shusterman s craft is Starkey s
goodbye scene. The book states Stop! yells their father, as their mother begins to cry (Shusterman 7). These
mixed emotions between the parents add emphasis to the scene and show the reader that the parents are not happy
with the situation. The father yelling is included to show that he was upset and that he was scared, and because
the father felt this way the reader can conclude that he was pressured into unwinding his son. While the father is
yelling, Starkey s mother is crying. Crying is very different from yelling, but when Starkey s mother cries it is

How did Erasmus use Folly to criticize the Catholic Church of his Day? It may seem odd or different to admire

Praise of Folly, Erasmus put this independence to good use in repeating to the readers, a civilization significantly

The Difference Between Volunteer And Large Telemarkote Calls
There been numerous studies conducted to see if telephone calls actually produce the desired effect. There is a
significant difference in the mobilization of voters using telephone calls between the volunteer and the large

callers, while most commercial call centers do not have much of a significant impact on getting voters to the

those who are contacted and give the response to the affirmative that they will vote seemed to be more effective
than a onetime contact. It has long been understood that when one gets a written or verbal commitment generally
that has been followed through in the commitment kept. Simply put that asking someone to commit to vote can
increase the possibility they will. Also a while person thinks with the intent of commitment this influences person

The Period Of The Roman Empire
During the eighth century, Europeans were experiencing one of the most peaceful periods in history since the fall
of the Roman Empire. Starting around the ninth century Europe, however, this would begin to change. The
vikings were feared marauders that preyed upon all manner of coastal settlements. Paying no heed to the religious
value placed upon certain sites, such as monasteries, by the local inhabitants, they at times ransacked and pillaged
indiscriminately, taking valuable goods with them as their plunder. Despite an apparent disregard for the sanctity
of religious sites, their own religion played an important and fundamental role in the lives of vikings and their
society.
The period of rapid viking expansion, during which viking longboats would sail along the shores of Europe,
raiding and conquering sea side towns, began in the late eighth century. In the year 789, viking warriors began
pillaging towns and monasteries, stealing valuable goods and kidnapping villagers to sell as slaves. These raids
began as a complete surprise to their victims. Under the rule of the Charlemagne, King of the Franks and future
emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Europe was experiencing the greatest period of peace since the pax romana
and the fall of the Roman Empire. As such, the inhabitants of the coastal hamlets that the Scandinavians
victimised were unprepared for the sudden wave of attacks. Furthermore, the vikings did not respect the Christian
tradition of sparing monasteries and

Partners In Health Mission John Locke Summary
In the short piece, Partners in Health Mission, it explains the goal of this company which is to overall help the
people suffering with poverty by giving these people healthcare. This statement uses the ideas of equality and
preservation of life by trying to give people embellished with poverty the ability to be health like the rest of the
world. This company s goals and values mainly line up with the ideals and philosophies of enlightenment
philosopher John Locke. This is due to the idea of preserving life because it is a humans natural right to live and
is sense of equality in which everyone receives equal healthcare treatment. Ultimately, this piece uses the ideals
and philosophies of John Locke in the modern day to try to preserve life and create a sense of equality among

The Cask Of Amontillado Short Story Analysis
Brissa Martinez
ENGL 1302 001
Short story analysis
September 12, 2016
The Cask Casket Poe s use of verbal and dramatic irony in The Cask of Amontillado foreshadows the both the
crime and the death of the characters in the story. Even before the story begins the use of irony is seen. In the title
The Cask of Amontillado the word cask has a similar phonetic to the word casket, which is synonymous to the
word coffin which leads one to believe that there will be a death in the story. One of the most ironic aspects of the
story is the name that Poe gives the victim Fortunato. The irony sets in that he is very unfortunate to be fooled
into such an obvious trap leading to his death, even with the name he was given and set intelligence he was
supposed to have, but is blurred by the effects of alcohol.
Another use of irony and foreshadowing is that the death was planned during a carnival. A carnival is usually a
time of celebration, in this case it was the carnival before Lent, allowing themselves to indulge in pagan activities
before the self denying 40 days celebrated by certain religions. It is ironic that this a religious filled activity filled
with drunks who have no perception of reality or self awareness. At the time Fortunato ran into Montresor,
Fortunato was involved with the excess of alcohol which made him become easily fooled and unaware of the
reality of his situation exposing himself to Montresor almost effortlessly. When they are met Montresor is
masked, he seems to be doing in what is in the best interest for Fortunato, wanting to show him the fine wine,
disguising his real intentions under the mask, and Fortunato, of course, was dressed as a jester. The irony stands
in that Fortunato is more willing to follow Montresor once he removes his mask, once he shows his face and is
smiling and leading him down the catacombs. This is the irony that Montresor is a two faced character. Behind
the mask and his words, he hides his true intentions of revenge and yet when he takes the mask off he is still
deceiving Fortunato, even though one would think that once one is unmasked their true self reveals. Fortunato on
the other hand is portraying himself as a fool in the outfit he is wearing already. It is

Introduction Do elastic and inelastic collisions obey the conservation of momentum principle? The law of
momentum conservation principle means a collision occurring between object 1 and object 2 in an isolated
system, the total momentum of the two objects before the collision is equal to the total momentum of the two
objects after the collision. That is, the momentum lost by object 1 is equal to the momentum gained by object 2. It
is important, because this experiment we can see momentum conserved in a collision and seeing if the collision is

collision or if we added the 500g the velocity would be halved. The max force that occurs during a collision is a
function of the change in velocity over a change of time. The shorter the time span, the larger the force must be.
However it did not change the momentum, because the according the law of conservation momentum principle

collision we would have an even more accurate account of the law of conservation momentum

Characteristics Of A Servant Leader
Title of the Paper in Twelve Words or Less Servant leadership is a unique style of management that ensures the
needs of employees are met even if it means the leader has to make personal sacrifices. The idea is that by serving
others they will in turn not only do the bare minimum required for their occupation but rather put forth the extra
effort because they respect the authority of their manager. This method of management is absolutely applicable in
the field of nursing for anyone because it makes everyone accountable for their own actions, not just the charge
nurses or managers of a unit. A nurse can exemplify the role of servant leader by setting the needs of their
patients as priority. The following paper will look into a few of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ties into aligning what people say with their actions. A leader may say their employees are the biggest asset
to the company but the actions of that leader may say something different (88). One study found using love in
leadership can also be positive when working with children (LOVE). In early childhood, love based leadership
could develop an environment where children are able to express their full abilities; a key factor to develop this
type of environment is to envision things form the child s perspective (LOVE). This method should also be
adopted in the hospitals so healthcare providers are better able to meet the needs of their patient by placing
themselves in the patient s perspective. The third characteristic for servant leadership is being a humble leader.
When people think of characteristics of a leader today, being humble is usually not one that comes to mind.
Rather, leaders may be described as being full of themselves, or egotistical (110). If a leader removes the
pretenses of knowing everything and being powerful, employees will see their leaders as being more authentic
(111). As organizations become more and more complex it is impossible for any one person to be an expert in all
the different sectors, therefore leaders should humble themselves by admitting they are not all knowing and
should use the different traits, talents, knowledge, and contributions of the followers around them to cultivate a

The Sniper By Liam O Flaherty Analysis
Liam O Flaherty is an Irish author who focuses his writings during the time of the Irish Civil War. Along with
The Sniper, O Flaherty s novel The Informer is also based in Dublin in the 1920 s during the Irish Civil War. In
this story, the theme is that war dehumanizes individuals that partake in the action. The style is straightforward
and easy to understand and the point of view is third person. Although there are characters mentioned, none have
significant detail other than who or what they are; today though, society tries to recognize the men and women
who served or are serving our country for who they are, brave.
The overall theme is that war dehumanizes individual who partake in the actions of war, making them seem as
mere objects. O Flaherty does not give his characters any meaning. They have no names, no faces, and are
represented as targets to be shot at. For example, in the paragraphs 8 and 9, the author says round the corner of a
side street came an old woman...she began to talk to the man in the turret of the car. She was pointing to the roof
where the snipe lay. An informer. The turret opened. A man s head and shoulders appeared, looking toward the

Simply dumfounded. To think that the legendary Theseus, the man who s name is known throughout the world
for his heroic acts and feats. I have seen dozens of sculptures, mosaics, and paintings depicting his triumphant
acts. Both royal and godly blood flowed through his veins, said to have slayed the minotaur and overcome the six
labors. The fact dropped on me like a pot of greek fire, numbing my senses, making me almost deaf to the
bustling street around me. The savory aroma of freshly baked bread pulled me out of my deep thought. I suddenly
became aware of the thundering roar of the marketplace, impatient vendors hyping up their assorted wares nearly
to the legends of Theseus. Every one of their rugs has a story, and each one more glamorous than the last. Before
i knew it, we had arrived at the palace and dismounted our horses. The king s palace was atop a huge set of
sprawling marble steps, lined on both sides with stone walls topped with magnificent statues of the deities. On the
right was Zeus, parallel on the left was his wife Hera, followed by the rest of the Olympians divided by gender.
Every divot, dimple, and curve was flawless because these statues were erected by none other than me. I consider
these works second only to the monument for Zeus i built in Olympia, praised to be one of the seven wonders of

The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy Essay
The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy
The Milesians and Heraclitus
Long before the time of Thales, a citizen of Miletus, in the district of Ionia on the west coast of Asia Minor,
Chaldaen astrologers had listed data on the position of the stars and planets. As Thales studied these tables he
thought he discerned a pattern or regularity in the occurrence of eclipses, and he ventured to predict a solar
eclipse that occurred on May 28th 585BC. Some scholars think that this was just a lucky empirical guess, but if it
was the discovery of an astronomical regularity or natural law, then Thales may be credited with distinguishing
Greek philosophy and science from the somewhat aimless observations and disjointed information of the Eastern

Since, too, a general theory must attempt to explain biological phenomena as well as physics and astronomy,
another reason for selecting water may have been its indepensibility to life. And a little ingenuity can invent other
considerations. But Anaximander (610 545?BC), Thales successor, in additions to specific contributions to
science, saw a difficulty in Thales general cosmology. If water were he basic substance, he thought, fire could
never have come into existence, for there is an essential antagonism between their peculiar qualities. For the same
reason, if the substratum were fire, the existence of fire could not be explained.. Therefore, Anaximander
assumed a Boundless that was neither wet or dry, hot or cold, but rather indeterminately both wet and dry, cold
and hot. Thus, the matter of the universe was Boundless, not merely because it extended throughout infinite
space, but also, and mainly, because it was not bounded, limited, or defined by any quality. This original
substance produces the world and its content by a swirling motion that separates four qualities out of the chaotic
mass. This swirl explains the revolution of the starts and planets.
The third member of the Milesian school, Anaximenes (590 525BC) could not be persuaded to look for the
universal substratum beyond the

The Transition Through Middle School And High School
The future holds an uncertain thing in life and with it come many responsibilities. I realized how things change so
often happens as quickly and as unexpectedly as it does. The transition through middle school and high school
has changed me thoroughly. I ve learned that high school has made me smarter for who to trust and judge people
more than I usually do. High school gave me more options, viewpoints, and ideas. I mature in almost every way,
and learn more about myself for what I m good at. There will be hard times but eventually get through them.
It started when I was a freshman in high school. It was a 10 minute walk from my house. I got out of bed, got
ready, and then was on my way to school. The moment of the ringing sound of the ... Show more content on

At that time I had an older sister, who was 1 year older than me. The first thing she told me was do not say hi to
me or follow me. I already know that she would be embarrassed but that didn t bother me at all. I still did what
she told me not to do because that s how annoying little sister (I) can be.
During my sophomore year, my grades drop. It was a disaster. I felt frustrated and stressed. I had to study like I
have never studied before. I have never improved ever since; in fact I did worst during my junior year. I didn t
care about the bad scores I got on my quizzes/tests. Overall, my worst gpa was 2.5. My parents even lost hopes
for me. I was always compared to with others on how I should learn better from them. Getting lectured by my
parents was the one thing I hated about. They would always say, Do well in school or else you can t graduate. Be
like your sister, who studies hard. That s when I started talking back at them; I said, Don t tell me what to do. I
will graduate, watch me. I ve also encountered number of situations where I was forced by my parents to
undertake courses that I was never interested in.
My weaknesses are standardized testing. I do not perform well on tests. I can be smart and understand the
content, but it doesn t show on the test. Even though I study, I am worried about how I did on a test, especially
when it s really important. Although my SAT and ACT are low, I am prepared for college. After retaking my

Speech And Communicate With Therapists
to address and communicate with therapists. When working with the Latinx population, therapists and education
professionals should reflect on this child rearing value before encouraging Latinx children to call them by their
first names, as it may be a sign of disrespect for their family to address any service provider that way within the
hierarchical framework they are being brought up to defer to. In addition, greeting each member of the family
within a hierarchical order (starting with parents then children) can show a Latinx family that the service provider
understands this value. If for example, a clinician goes right up to the child first, it can lead the family to interpret
that the professional does not understanding their culture of respeto, which can create boundaries between them.
It also places the child in a situation where is he or she responds to the greeting before her parents or does not
respond to it, it might be viewed as disrespectful, disobedient or offensive to the family. Knowing the importance
of respeto within the Latinx community helps professionals understand how to interact with their clients in a
cohesive and productive way.
Familismo is another child rearing value found in many Latinx families. It promotes healthy interdependence
within the nuclear and extended family. Extended family, friends and the nuclear family all take part in raising the
child within the Latinx household. The family unit is extended beyond the family to engulf friends who

If there anything like me they come to realize they need groceries because what is left will not last till the coming weekend. • 3. Pakistanarian Militancy Statement STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Sectarianism and militancy has become a major security issue for Pakistan. The history of sectarian conflict in Pakistan is as old as the existence of this country. But the militant culture in Pakistan has been on the rise for more than a decade. Sectarian killings and extremism has posed a serious threat to society. This has not only affected the society but also its institutions. Pakistan has witnessed various trends of militancy from intolerance to extremism, radicalization and violence. The coordination of al Qaeda with the Taliban and the induction of sectarian extremist groups into this have proved to be a deadly mix and have given a complicated tilt to the militancy issue. The increasing sectarian violence and militancy in Pakistan has converted a tolerant society into an increasingly intolerant society. The need for embracing diversity and pluralism has been felt to avoid straining the social fabric irreparably. Sectarian militancy and extremism has not only created disharmony in the society and is acting as repellent from Islam for followers as well as disbelievers but is also a threat to internal security. The term militant can be described as followers of group or religion or a party who aggressively and violently promote an idea in the name of a movement (and many a times have an extreme approach to solution for their goal). The various movements that seek to apply militancy as a solution, or who use militancy to rationalize their solutions for issues in the modern world, seldom share common tactics. Silkwood The story of one of the most famous worker s compensation cases, Karen Silkwood vs. Kerr McGee, was the inspiration for hundreds of articles, several books, televisions shows, and a movie. In the early 1970s, Silkwood worked as a lab analyst in an Oklahoma Kerr McGee plant which manufactured plutonium pins used as fuel for nuclear reactors (The Karen Silkwood Story, 2004).. Plutonium, a radioactive chemical element, is known to be highly toxic and carcinogenic. However, the contamination resulted in hysteria and fear in Silkwood in which she required medical treatment and examination. The Workers Compensation Act required reimbursement for medical attention from job related accidents (Walsh p 496). Silkwood had missed time from work during testing, and she incurred medical expense which was respectfully for paid by Kerr McGee. But even if she had not, work time loss and medical expense are not necessary requisites to finding an injury is exclusively covered by workers compensation. The court concluded they made a mistake in not ruling that the issue of personal injury must be determined under the Workers Compensation Act. The disposition on this issue eliminated the need to discuss the sufficiency of the evidence and other arguments relating to the amount of damages for personal injury and the fairness of the trial on that aspect of the case. It is somewhat unclear how Kerr McGee determined that the federal regulation of nuclear energy prevents application of the workers compensation law for injuries on the job. The existence here of significant damage to Silkwood s personal property in her apartment required the court to consider additional issues recognized in the appeal. In conclusion, the Workers Compensation Act applies only to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This catchphrase was coined by sociologist and biologist Herbert Spencer and actually was used by Darwin later, but always in the context of the reproductive success (Darwin, 1868). • 9. The Breakdown of Ithaka In the lands of Pylos and Sparta, the kingdoms are prospering and in the favor of the gods. However, in Ithaka, the kingdom is falling to pieces. Why are the kingdoms so different in their success? Homer puts these three kingdoms side by side in The Odyssey, making it easy to find similarities and differences between the three. Pylos and Sparta, ruled by Nestor and Menelaos, could not be more successful. Ithaka, currently has no king in its throne and chaos is resulting from the battle for the coveted seat. Compared to the kingdoms of Nestor and Menelaos, Ithaka is breaking down from the loss of order and their leader, Odysseus. Sparta and Pylos are successful, thriving kingdoms, so what makes Ithaka break down? Menelaos has a mansion that is the way the court of Zeus must be (4.72). He has no end of riches, and Sparta is prospering right along with him. Menelaos rules with compassion and this makes him a great ruler. In Pylos, Nestor sacrifices an impressive heifer for Athena; his goldsmith gloved each horn in a pure foil beaten out of the gold that Nestor gave him (3.437 438). This costly sacrifice is no expense, because Pylos is a wealthy country. Also, what is added to the success of Pylos, is the great rule of Nestor. He is a wise and generous soul, who strides to keep his kingdom under the favor of the gods. Athena truly favors Nestor in which she wishes honor to Nestor and his sons (3.58). • 12. The Mathematics Of Blood Alcohol Concentration The Mathematics of Blood Alcohol Concentration As I approached my sixteenth birthday, I began to study for my G1 written test in order to receive my drivers licence. While doing a practice test, I came across a statistic that stated, In the United States in 2013, it was estimated that 10 076 people were killed in crashes that involved one or more drunk drivers and 290 000 people were injured in these accidents . I had heard a variation of this statistic many times, however I didn t truly grasp the magnitude of these numbers until I began to reflect on the effects of driving under the influence. As a potential new driver, I was concerned about the use of alcohol while driving so I began to wonder how toxins, specifically alcohol, react within our bodies. I also wondered how, or even if, this interaction could be represented through the use of mathematical analysis. In my research I discovered for myself a field known as pharmacokinetics, which is a branch of pharmacology that deals with the interactions of drugs in our bodies. In pharmacokinetics, the interaction of alcohol with the body can be visually represented using a concentration time graph, where the concentration can be graphed as a function with respect to time in hours. The concentration in this case refers to Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC), which is the amount of alcohol in 100 mL of blood with units, mg/100mL, or often expressed as a percent. Stuck in the middle of the mix is a young boy who certainly is not the archetypal protagonist, the novel s wallflower. Charlie shares this problematic social symptom with Boo Radley, though he never before had looked at himself as an outsider. An Analysis in the Caltech Rationale In the analysis of the events and inspirations in my life that led to my decision on where to attend college, I view the motif of puzzles and games of logic stemming from my infancy into the current day as a major component of the reason I picked Caltech over Penn, the final two colleges in narrowing down my college search. Caltech, a very small school of 235 students per grade represented hardcore academics with an infamously difficult core curriculum, focused mainly in pure and applied math and sciences, went at odds with the University of Pennsylvania s class size of 2400, representing a school more renowned for its Wharton School of Business than its sciences and for the college and social experiences, as it s widely known as the Social Ivy. The decision between these two extremes an Ivy League prestige and a fun four years versus academic rigor and a strenuous undergraduate experience filled with all nighters represents a microcosm of my values as the amalgamation of my past experiences, which, due to the motif of puzzles, contributed to my personal convictions for (1) the study of some form of mathematics, possibly consolidated with real life applications, and (2) my personal philosophy of striving for knowledge and being at the top of my field, no matter the sacrifice. • 19. Theme Of Fate In Oedipus The King Oedipus the King: Fate or Free will Throughout Oedipus the King, the concept of fate and free will plays an essential part in Oedipus destruction. This story describes the suffering of Oedipus as a result of a misfortune of which he has no control over. Oedipus is a play that demonstrates how a person s life can either be destined to take a certain path or be based on the decisions a person makes throughout their life. There are no oracles or prophecies that can determine how an individual s life turns out to be, but according to Sophocles the gods cursed Oedipus even before he was born. This is a tragic event of a conflict between the powerful gods, his blindness, a man s inability to change his destiny and his intelligence. Oedipus does not deserve all the tragedies that happened to him, and he is a victim of fate. The gods had already proclaimed Oedipus fate even before he knew it. His fate has been bound since the day he was born and there is no way it can be avoided. The herdsman says If you are the man he says you are, you re bred to misery . (1361 1362) This means that he was born to be miserable, no matter what kind of person he turns out to be. Everyone already knew the outcome would turn out horrible as it is expected. E.R Dodds says ...is that man has no free will but is a puppet in the hands of the gods who pull the strings that make him dance. (35) This shows how the gods are controlling him and his future life. The gods had cursed him which means he has been controlled since the beginning just like puppets. This metaphor serves as a perfect example of what Oedipus goes through. Some of his actions were unintentional, however some of them were ignorant and this is what s stopping him from uncovering the truth. The day Oedipus meets Teiresias, he tells him that Oedipus is the murderer of Laius. Oedipus cannot believe that Teiresias would say such things. He was not convinced of the reality and accuses Teiresias of being a liar. Oedipus says Not twice shall say calumnies like this and stay unpunished . (415 416) Oedipus is considered ignorant because although he is given knowledge from the wiser character, he chooses to ignore the facts and continue looking for the killer. Gould mentions ... The reason Berniece is so attached to the piano is the family history tied to it. When her grandparents were freed from slavery her grandfather died over stealing it. Then even past that her mother was obsessed with playing the piano and cleaned it everyday. She taught Berniece how to play piano on it and her mother used to say it filled her with great joy to hear Berniece play. But, after her mother died Berniece never played the piano again. In this scene Boy Willie yet again is trying to sell the piano. Berniece begins to defend saying, Look at this piano. Mama Ola polished this piano with her tears for seventeen years. For seventeen she rubbed on it till her hands bled. Then she rubbed the blood in. This is part of the reason Berniece is so attached to the piano which is the reason she will never allow Boy Willie to have the piano. Berniece s love for her ancestral history is what causes her to be so attached to piano and why she will always defend it. She at one point pulls a gun out on Boy Willie and says he won t take the piano over her dead body. In this scene which is basically the ending of the story as everything around her is caving in. Berniece has an epiphany to play the piano to cleanse all the surroundings of all trouble. The story goes, It is in this moment, from somewhere old, that Berniece realizes what she must do. She crosses to the piano. She begins to play. The song is found piece by piece. It is an old urge to song that is both a commandment and a plea. With repetition it gains strength. It is intended as an exorcism and a dressing for battle. A rustle of wind blowing across two continents. What ends up happening is it solves all the problems around her. It almost seems to ... • 23. Social Stratification and Class Essay Today in the United States, we read in the newspapers constantly about the state of classes in our country. For instance, it is often said at tax time that the Federal budget is balanced on the backs of the middle class. To people in the lower class, the promise is held that in a capitalist society, by working hard you can lift yourself out of the lower income bracket to join the middle class. Entrepreneurs who can find a need and fill it can make it into the upper class. The point is that this kind of thinking, a product of social stratification theory, is ingrained upon our minds. As a society, we accept it as a fact that we live in a multi tiered class system, and that this is the way it should be because it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of a social stratification model can be made of the Feudal System, with a dominant nobility (betters). Barons were at the upper strata, higher than the knights, who were at a lower strata. The subjected masses (lessers) were serfs and peasants; undoubtedly some were more clever and successful than others who occupied a lower strata. Another model would be the current United States, where the social strata starts with the upper upper class, the upper class, the upper middle class, and so on down to the poor, or lower lower class. In highly detailed social stratification models, trends and analyses are very complex. An excellent example of this is The Process of Stratification: Trends and Analyses by Robert Hauser and David Featherman. The many pages of tables and detailed analysis are exceedingly difficult to comprehend, which makes them difficult to use. A model of social stratification is a snapshot in time which details the society as it exists at that time. In The Persistence of Social Inequality in America, John Dalphin states that social stratification suggests that a society has divisions, cleavages, or splits within it. More specifically, it means that a society is divided into hierarchically arranged levels of families (and, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of the defendants appeared before the court to request more time to pay the fines associated with the tickets. • 25. Community Based Health Promotion Programs COMMUNITY HEALTH PROMOTION Introduction Community Based Health Promotion is a comprehensive, systematic, coordinated approach to long term health behavior change by influencing the community (cultural) norms through education and community organization. Studies show that most Americans want to lead healthy lives and are eager to improve their lifestyles. In fact, many continuously attempt to change unhealthy behaviors, only to fail. Most health promotion strategies assist individuals in changing health risk behaviors: self help pamphlet distribution, individual counseling, group education classes, support groups, and health risk appraisals. Careful evaluation of these strategies has shown that long term behavior change is very difficult for most participants. The failure rate can be 80% or more. The best predictor of health behavior and long lasting successful behavior change is often the culture in which a person lives. Health promotion programs need to make it possible for the community to support healthy behaviors. To do this successfully, the community and its leadership must be mobilized to provide community based health promotion programs. Introduction I am not a crook is one of the most famous quotes from President Richard M. Nixon. Citizens of the United States of America would hope that their president would never have to defend himself as a crook, but that is just what happened in the presidency of Richard M. Nixon. President Nixon had to defend himself for not being a crook because of the events famously known as the Watergate Scandal . In 1972, members of Nixon s re election committee broke into the Democratic National Committee s Watergate offices and stole top secret documents as well as trying to get into their phone system. They eventually were caught and so was President Nixon which led him to his resignation. Even though it was an unfortunate event, there have been positive outcomes because of it. The lasting implications of the Watergate Scandal have been generally positive on society because of the passing of Ethics in Government Act, amending the Freedom of Information Act and 42 states passing election reform laws. II. Background Richard M. Nixon was a former vice president who barely won the election in 1968 against Hubert Humphrey for the Republican party. The likability of the protagonist in Daniel Defoe s novel, Robinson Crusoe, is often called into question by many of its readers. The story starts with the protagonist, Robinson Crusoe, leaving home against his father s wishes to voyage across the sea. But misfortune fell upon this voyage in the form of a great storm. During this storm, Crusoe prays to God, saying that if He saved him, Crusoe would serve him for the rest of his life. This storm caused Crusoe and his shipmates to abandon ship and watch it fonder. He survived, forgot his promise to God, was deemed bad luck by the captain and the crew, and was directed to never again board a ship. Ignoring this, Crusoe boarded another ship, on which he and the crew were captured by pirates and sold as slaves. He was a slave for three years before he escaped with another slave named Xury. They are then saved by a Portuguese captain, who keeps Xury and takes Crusoe to Brazil. There Crusoe lives a life similar to what his father wanted for him, a simple yet content life. He at first vowed to never sail again, but after getting better acquainted with his neighbor, he was persuaded to travel to Africa with his neighbor to bring slaves, free of cost, back to their farms, breaking this vow. But he proves to, again, be bad luck. The ship crashes and Crusoe is the only man to survive. Through all this, and more, Crusoe proves himself to be inconsiderate, selfish, inhumane, and ungrateful, all unlikable traits. During all of his adventures, Robinson Crusoe was inconsiderate of his shipmates safety and selfish. His first voyage was literally a shipwreck and it all sparked from his selfish desire to venture across the seas. He was told by the captain that this was a sign that he was not to be a seafaring man. (Defoe, 9). Crusoe sailed again, knowing that he was destined for disaster, putting all his shipmates in danger. And the captain was right. Disaster fell upon him and his shipmates on most of his voyages. On his second voyage they were boarded and captured by pirates, and sold as slaves. Unwinding is when parents can turn their kids over to the government and the government takes the children apart and uses their body parts for different purposes. A possible theme for Unwholly is that by following a corrupt society, people begin to develop selfish behavior. Neal Shusterman uses intense actions and exaggerated description to make his books unique and to help show the theme and help the reader picture the scene. One area of the book that shows Shusterman s craft is Starkey s goodbye scene. The book states Stop! yells their father, as their mother begins to cry (Shusterman 7). These mixed emotions between the parents add emphasis to the scene and show the reader that the parents are not happy with the situation. The father yelling is included to show that he was upset and that he was scared, and because the father felt this way the reader can conclude that he was pressured into unwinding his son. • 35. The Period Of The Roman Empire During the eighth century, Europeans were experiencing one of the most peaceful periods in history since the fall of the Roman Empire. Starting around the ninth century Europe, however, this would begin to change. The vikings were feared marauders that preyed upon all manner of coastal settlements. Paying no heed to the religious value placed upon certain sites, such as monasteries, by the local inhabitants, they at times ransacked and pillaged indiscriminately, taking valuable goods with them as their plunder. Despite an apparent disregard for the sanctity of religious sites, their own religion played an important and fundamental role in the lives of vikings and their society. The period of rapid viking expansion, during which viking longboats would sail along the shores of Europe, raiding and conquering sea side towns, began in the late eighth century. In the year 789, viking warriors began pillaging towns and monasteries, stealing valuable goods and kidnapping villagers to sell as slaves. These raids began as a complete surprise to their victims. • 37. The Cask Of Amontillado Short Story Analysis Brissa Martinez ENGL 1302 001 Short story analysis September 12, 2016 The Cask Casket Poe s use of verbal and dramatic irony in The Cask of Amontillado foreshadows the both the crime and the death of the characters in the story. Even before the story begins the use of irony is seen. In the title The Cask of Amontillado the word cask has a similar phonetic to the word casket, which is synonymous to the word coffin which leads one to believe that there will be a death in the story. One of the most ironic aspects of the story is the name that Poe gives the victim Fortunato. The irony sets in that he is very unfortunate to be fooled into such an obvious trap leading to his death, even with the name he was given and set intelligence he was supposed to have, but is blurred by the effects of alcohol. Another use of irony and foreshadowing is that the death was planned during a carnival. A carnival is usually a time of celebration, in this case it was the carnival before Lent, allowing themselves to indulge in pagan activities before the self denying 40 days celebrated by certain religions. It is ironic that this a religious filled activity filled with drunks who have no perception of reality or self awareness. At the time Fortunato ran into Montresor, Fortunato was involved with the excess of alcohol which made him become easily fooled and unaware of the reality of his situation exposing himself to Montresor almost effortlessly. When they are met Montresor is masked, he seems to be doing in what is in the best interest for Fortunato, wanting to show him the fine wine, disguising his real intentions under the mask, and Fortunato, of course, was dressed as a jester. The irony stands in that Fortunato is more willing to follow Montresor once he removes his mask, once he shows his face and is smiling and leading him down the catacombs. This is the irony that Montresor is a two faced character. Behind the mask and his words, he hides his true intentions of revenge and yet when he takes the mask off he is still deceiving Fortunato, even though one would think that once one is unmasked their true self reveals. In early childhood, love based leadership could develop an environment where children are able to express their full abilities; a key factor to develop this type of environment is to envision things form the child s perspective (LOVE). The king s palace was atop a huge set of sprawling marble steps, lined on both sides with stone walls topped with magnificent statues of the deities. On the right was Zeus, parallel on the left was his wife Hera, followed by the rest of the Olympians divided by gender. Every divot, dimple, and curve was flawless because these statues were erected by none other than me. I consider these works second only to the monument for Zeus i built in Olympia, praised to be one of the seven wonders of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy Essay The Beginnings of Greek Philosophy The Milesians and Heraclitus Long before the time of Thales, a citizen of Miletus, in the district of Ionia on the west coast of Asia Minor, Chaldaen astrologers had listed data on the position of the stars and planets. As Thales studied these tables he thought he discerned a pattern or regularity in the occurrence of eclipses, and he ventured to predict a solar eclipse that occurred on May 28th 585BC. Some scholars think that this was just a lucky empirical guess, but if it was the discovery of an astronomical regularity or natural law, then Thales may be credited with distinguishing Greek philosophy and science from the somewhat aimless observations and disjointed information of the Eastern wise ... Since, too, a general theory must attempt to explain biological phenomena as well as physics and astronomy, another reason for selecting water may have been its indepensibility to life. And a little ingenuity can invent other considerations. But Anaximander (610 545?BC), Thales successor, in additions to specific contributions to science, saw a difficulty in Thales general cosmology. If water were he basic substance, he thought, fire could never have come into existence, for there is an essential antagonism between their peculiar qualities. For the same reason, if the substratum were fire, the existence of fire could not be explained.. Therefore, Anaximander assumed a Boundless that was neither wet or dry, hot or cold, but rather indeterminately both wet and dry, cold and hot. Thus, the matter of the universe was Boundless, not merely because it extended throughout infinite space, but also, and mainly, because it was not bounded, limited, or defined by any quality. This original substance produces the world and its content by a swirling motion that separates four qualities out of the chaotic mass. This swirl explains the revolution of the starts and planets. The third member of the Milesian school, Anaximenes (590 525BC) could not be persuaded to look for the universal substratum beyond the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Transition Through Middle School And High School The future holds an uncertain thing in life and with it come many responsibilities. I realized how things change so often happens as quickly and as unexpectedly as it does. The transition through middle school and high school has changed me thoroughly. I ve learned that high school has made me smarter for who to trust and judge people more than I usually do. High school gave me more options, viewpoints, and ideas. I mature in almost every way, and learn more about myself for what I m good at. There will be hard times but eventually get through them. It started when I was a freshman in high school. It was a 10 minute walk from my house. I got out of bed, got ready, and then was on my way to school. The moment of the ringing sound of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At that time I had an older sister, who was 1 year older than me. The first thing she told me was do not say hi to me or follow me. I already know that she would be embarrassed but that didn t bother me at all. I still did what she told me not to do because that s how annoying little sister (I) can be. During my sophomore year, my grades drop. It was a disaster. I felt frustrated and stressed. I had to study like I have never studied before. I have never improved ever since; in fact I did worst during my junior year. I didn t care about the bad scores I got on my quizzes/tests. Overall, my worst gpa was 2.5. My parents even lost hopes for me. I was always compared to with others on how I should learn better from them. Getting lectured by my parents was the one thing I hated about. They would always say, Do well in school or else you can t graduate. Be like your sister, who studies hard. That s when I started talking back at them; I said, Don t tell me what to do. I will graduate, watch me. I ve also encountered number of situations where I was forced by my parents to undertake courses that I was never interested in. My weaknesses are standardized testing. I do not perform well on tests. I can be smart and understand the content, but it doesn t show on the test. Even though I study, I am worried about how I did on a test, especially when it s really important. Although my SAT and ACT are low, I am prepared for college. After retaking my ... • 46. Speech And Communicate With Therapists to address and communicate with therapists. When working with the Latinx population, therapists and education professionals should reflect on this child rearing value before encouraging Latinx children to call them by their first names, as it may be a sign of disrespect for their family to address any service provider that way within the hierarchical framework they are being brought up to defer to. In addition, greeting each member of the family within a hierarchical order (starting with parents then children) can show a Latinx family that the service provider understands this value. If for example, a clinician goes right up to the child first, it can lead the family to interpret that the professional does not understanding their culture of respeto, which can create boundaries between them. It also places the child in a situation where is he or she responds to the greeting before her parents or does not respond to it, it might be viewed as disrespectful, disobedient or offensive to the family. Knowing the importance of respeto within the Latinx community helps professionals understand how to interact with their clients in a cohesive and productive way. Familismo is another child rearing value found in many Latinx families. It promotes healthy interdependence within the nuclear and extended family. Extended family, friends and the nuclear family all take part in raising the child within the Latinx household. The family unit is extended beyond the family to engulf friends who ...
