Examples Of Thesis Statements For
Persuasive Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Examples of Thesis Statements for Persuasive Essays" can
be a challenging endeavor. The difficulty arises from the need to strike a balance between
providing clear and compelling examples while also conveying a deep understanding of the
principles underlying persuasive thesis statements.
Firstly, one must delve into the nuances of persuasive writing, understanding the art of
influencing the reader's perspective. It requires a comprehensive exploration of various persuasive
techniques and the ability to discern when and how to employ them effectively. This, in itself,
demands a thorough understanding of the topic at hand, as well as a keen awareness of the
target audience.
Furthermore, selecting relevant examples to illustrate different types of persuasive thesis
statements adds another layer of complexity. Each example must not only showcase the diversity
of persuasive strategies but also be presented in a coherent and logical manner. This involves
careful consideration of the context, the specific audience, and the intended impact on the reader.
In addition to content, the structure of the essay plays a crucial role. A well-organized essay
ensures that the examples are seamlessly integrated, providing a smooth flow of information.
The introduction must capture the reader's attention, the body should present a range of
persuasive thesis statement examples, and the conclusion should leave a lasting impression.
Moreover, crafting a compelling thesis statement for the essay itself adds another layer of
challenge. The thesis statement sets the tone for the entire piece, acting as a roadmap for the
reader. Achieving the right balance of clarity, specificity, and persuasiveness in the thesis
statement is an intricate task that requires meticulous attention.
In conclusion, composing an essay on "Examples of Thesis Statements for Persuasive Essays"
demands a combination of knowledge, analytical skills, and a mastery of persuasive writing
techniques. It's a task that goes beyond merely presenting examples but requires the ability to
dissect and understand the underlying principles to effectively convey the art of persuasion.

The Negative Effects Of African People In Joseph Conrad
s...
Joseph Conrad wrote the book Heart of Darkness supporting a single story about the
African people, not at all close to the truth, causing Chinua Achebe to create Things
Fall Apart to directly counteract the negative effects of the false images Conrad
illustrates. Both Conrad and Achebe write stories about how white men enter the
living areas of African tribes and what happens, but Achebe writes his book in a way
where you see the African as actual people. Conrad suggests that the Africans are
people of lower intelligences and a savage mindset, but this is not the case at all, in
reality they are the people Achebe shows them as, smart intelligent people that live in
structured societies. Achebe contradicts what Conrad illustrates in a scene where he
is supporting the single story that Africans are unintelligent people. Conrad describes
how the white men walk past the Africans on their journey, which displays his views
on the white man in comparison to the Africans, We glided past like phantoms,
wondering and secretly appalled, as sane men would be before an enthusiastic
outbreak in a madhouse (Conrad). Conrad is seemingly presenting that Africans are
insane people by comparing them to the inmates in a madhouse. He makes the white
men seem superior in intelligence by saying how the white man avoids contact with
the Africans; this is presented when he describes the movement as a glide which
would mean they are trying to not interact with the Africans, but try maneuver their
The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat Case Study
Case SummaryIn the third section of The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat,
Oliver Sacks introduces two new patients: Mrs. O C and Mrs. O M. Sacks opens
with the case of Mrs. O C. One night, Mrs. O C was dreaming about her childhood
in Ireland and the music she would dance and sing to. When she woke up, she was
still hearing the same song. At first, she thought that she was remembering her
dream, but the song kept playing and it did not go away. As the day continued, she
started to fear for her sanity and quickly went to see Dr. Sacks. Sacks performed an
EEG test on her and found that whenever Mrs. O C said she was experiencing a
musical moment, her temporal lobe was hyperactive. This indicated to Sacks that she
was experiencing an epileptic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seizures stimulated by thinking of music also supported this theory since there is
recruitment of musical memory and its associated emotion (Maguire, 2012). Mrs.
O C is a good example of this. Mrs. O C only had seizures when thinking about her
childhood in Ireland and the specific Irish songs she would sing and dance to.
Orphaned at five years old, Mrs. O C moved to America to live with family. These
Irish songs caused her to be flooded with memories of her time in Ireland when her
mother and father were both alive, a time she had hardly remembered before these
musical seizures began (Sacks, 1970). It is also interesting to consider Mrs. O M s
case when thinking about emotional connections. Mrs. O M reported no emotional
connection to the songs she was hearing, however had been humming them before
the seizures began. This seems to indicate that there was some type of emotional
connection and that is probably why those specific songs were what played on repeat
in her head every time she had a seizure (Sacks, 1970). This emotional connection is
thought to be due to synchronized rhythms of electrical activity. When neuronal
rhythms are synchronized in specific brain regions, memories are formed more
effectively. Responding to a song emotionally is thought the cause neurons to become
excited and form these synchronized rhythms which in turn cause the brain to
associate seizures with memories of a specific genre/type of music (Swaminathan,
Track And Field Hall Of Fame
As a college student attending UNC Chapel Hill, Allen Johnson watched the 1992
Summer Olympics on television, telling himself that he would win a gold medal
at the next Summer Olympics. 25 years later, the 46 year old reflected on the
historical day at the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta, that led him to win a
gold medal in the 110 meter hurdles. It was a moment of reflection for me. I
thought of my parents, friends and all my coaches that helped me get to this point,
Johnson said. Surrealism struck the 25 year old gold medalist as soon as he crossed
the finish line ahead of all his competitors. I was very happy and it was surreal

Essay On Columbine Shooting
On the morning of April 20, 1999 Adolf Hitler s birthday two students entered
Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, with as many guns and pipe bombs
as they could carry. The original plan was to plant bombs in the cafeteria to drive
teachers and students to the parking lot, and from there they would shoot as many
people as they could. More explosives would be detonated once police and
ambulances arrived. But the first set of bombs failed to explode. So instead, Eric
Harris and Dylan Kleboldsimply wandered their way around school grounds,
gunning down whoever was unfortunate enough to cross their path. In less than an
hour, the two teens killed twelve students and a teacher. More than twenty others
were also wounded. The onslaught ended when Harris and Klebold turned the
guns on themselves in the library. Dylan Klebold grew up in an upper middle class
family and was a kid few would have expected to carry out such an attack. His
father was a geophysicist and also ran a successful mortgage business, and his
mother worked with the disabled (Dylan Klebold Biography, 2015). The kid was
smart and participated in a gifted student program. He was shy, loved baseball, and
enjoyed being a soundman for school theater productions. Because of this, Klebold
didn t mesh well with Columbine s dominant jock clique.... Show more content on

This theory states that sources of strain including failure to achieve goals, lack of
positive stimuli, and the presence of negative stimuli can lead to feelings of
disappointment, depression, frustration, anger, and fear (South University, 2015b).
Such feelings can build up over time, eventually leading to a release of those
negativities by way of causing harm to others. Klebold and Harris certainly did face
plenty of negative experiences during their high school experience, and they could
have viewed their inability to fit in as a failure on their
Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) and Rheumatic Heart
Disease (RHD)
Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) is defined by Mosby (2010) as a systemic
inflammatory disease which is enabled development with inadequate treatment of
upper respiratory tract infections of group A beta hemolytic streptococci. Repeated
episodes of ARF can cause autoimmune reactions within the heart which in turn
inflicts damage upon the heart muscle and heart valves, a condition termed as
rheumatic heart disease (RHD) (Mosby, 2010). Predominately ARF and RDH cases
are found to effect people living in developing countries. Steer and Carapetis (2009),
have linked this issue with the lowered socioeconomic conditions, household
crowding, inadequate health care and poor hygiene. In comparison both ARF and
RHD have virtually been eliminated in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the pathogenic mechanism of ARF and RHD is not yet fully understood, a
correlation between rheumatogenic GAS strains and inheritably liable hosts, results
in abnormal immune responses and the development of autoimmunity (Steer
Carapetis, 2009). This is caused by antibody cross reactivity and more specifically a
result of molecular mimicry (Porth Matfin, 2009). In the usual situation of a
streptococcus infection, an immune response will be instigated involving B cell
presentation of the antigen, CD4 T cell differentiation, helper T cell formation and
plasma B cell antibody production. Through this process the antibodies are enabled to
destruct the precise protein structure of the GAS cell wall. However in this case, the
targeted protein of the bacterium has considerable similarity to antigens presented on
the heart and kidney tissues which causes autoimmune activity. Once the micro
organisms have been eradicated, the remaining antibodies mistake the identity of
certain somatic cell resulting in inflammation and the onset of ARF symptoms two to
three weeks after the absence of the infection (Porth Matfin, 2009).
Typical presentations of rheumatic fever (RF) include a history of sore throats, head
aches, fever, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, swollen glands and other common
signs and symptoms of streptococcal infection (Porth Matfin, 2009). The presentation
of RF can be acute, recurrent or chronic. The acute stage
Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding And The Perks Of...
For me, coming of age novels always grab my attention contrary to other genres.
Novels such as Lord of the Flies by William Golding and The Perks of Being a
Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky are among some of my most beloved. In my junior
year, I read A Separate Peace by John Knowles for my AP U.S. History class while I
read The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger over the summer. A Separate Peace
explores the rivalry that can lie at the heart of many friendships and conveys the
concept of individuality rather than conformity. Similarly, The Catcher in the Rye is
the story of a teenage boy who despises the phoniness of society and fears becoming
just another phony adult. Both novels share similar characteristics including their
utilization of literary devices as well as protagonists who battle with preserving their
youthful innocence while being forced to face the brutal reality of the adult world
which threatens to make them mature too soon. Both novels, although more limited,
contain differences such as the setting and the protagonists personality s.
Throughout both novels, Salinger and Knowles both utilize similar literary devices to
convey the overarching themes of their novels. One of the main literary devices used
by both authors is symbolism. In The Catcher in the Rye, the Museum of Natural
History of symbolizes the timelessness that Holden lives for, while the red hunting
hat symbolizes his need for individuality. In A Separate Peace, the Summer Session
symbolizes
Biblical Worldview Of The Bible
What is a Biblical worldview and how does it compare to other worldviews? These
are some of the most important questions every Christian should ask. Just because
someone believes in God, their perspective of the world around them may be no
different than someone who does not believe in God. The key a Biblical worldview
is to study the Holy Bible. A Biblical worldview is a system of personal beliefs and
values based solely on the Word of God. The Bible serves as a plumb line of truth
through which God reveals His perspective regarding the beginning of the universe,
identity, ethics and the future. Three worldviews that consistently contrast with the
Biblical worldview are Naturalism, Nihilism, and Pantheism.
Ethan Pope describes characteristics of a Biblical worldview in his article,
Developing a Biblical Worldview. He suggests that there are two basic worldviews:
one that centers on God and one that centers on nature and man. A Biblical
worldview centers on God as Creator of the universe and everything in it. Others
center on the belief there is no God; therefore, the universe formed itself and man is
his own god. This view is called Naturalism or Atheism. (Pope, 2002).
Additional key characteristics of a Biblical worldview according to Pope are listed
below:
п‚ЄThe Bible is God s inspired Word.
п‚ЄMan is born with a sinful nature and sin is his greatest problem.
п‚ЄGod provided a solution through Jesus Christ, the one and only Savior from sin.

Animal Cruelty Is A Crime Against Humanity
In order to constitute animal cruelty as a Crime Against Humanity we must prove
that society is ignoring the violence towards them despite the research evidence, the
government sanctions mass killings of them, and that this type of violence affects
humans on a large scale (Plant, Schaik, Gullone, Flynn 2016). Although dispositional
factors such as empathy and aggression may influence animal cruelty, we must look
at the environmental factors that lead to the negative effects from a macro level
perspective. In this analysis, I will review whether exposure to animal cruelty
correlates with future maladaptive behaviors and the damaging effects it may have
when perpetrated at a large scale.

This proposes the idea of how actions of animal maltreatment are similar to actions of
child or domestic violence. The second reason stated in the book Child Abuse,
Domestic Violence, and Animal Abuse: Linking the Circles of Compassion for
Prevention and Intervention, is that cowardly acts of aggression against vulnerable
members of the family are matters of power and control. The victims can be of any
size, age, gender, or species, it is simply a matter of the opportunity that presents
itself (Ascione Arkow 1999). Lastly, the book Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and
Animal Abuse: Linking the Circles of Compassion for Prevention and Intervention,
states that any act of aggression or violence within the entire family can put the
members of that family at risk. The dangers of this violence may also reach out as
far as the community and its children (Ascione Arkow 1999).
An example of animal exploitation spilling over to other forms of violence is the
relationship between animal violence and intimate partner violence. In a study done
in April 2007, researchers asked both battered and non battered women to report
whether their partner had any history of abusing their pets at home. The women
living in the domestic violence shelter were nearly 11 times more likely to report that
their partner had hurt or killed pets than the group of non battered women (Ascione,
Weber, Thompson, Heath, Maruyama 2016). They also found that for the group of
battered
The Aeneid by Virgil
The perception of morality is very subjective and relates heavily to what the
society of the period defines as good or bad. In the Aenied, Vergil creates two
characters with morally opposite values; Aenias and Dido. Aenias can be
interpreted as the embodiment of what Vergil believes is right, while Dido is the
embodiment of what Vergil believes to be bad. The contrast of Dido s and Aeneas
behavior represents the fact that Vergil s moral values are heavily influenced by the
moral values which the romans upheld, as we can see in the character Aeneas which
shows many values that was heavily emphasized by the policy that Augustus enforced
during Vergil s time, and the character Dido which shows the opposite values that
was deemed good during that period.
One of the values that was enforced during Vergil s time by Augustus was patriotism,
which in the Aeniad s context is prioritizing between personal satisfaction, or the
greater good. In book 4 of the Aeneid, the character Aenias and Dido represents the
two opposing values, in which Aenias represents the greater good, while Dido
represents the personal satisfaction. For example, Dido was willing to sacrifice her
honor and the respect of her people for Aenias. I sacrificed my virtue, and the good
name I once had, the one hope of undying fame. Dido s actions are an extreme
example of how a person can sacrifice everything, even though she was the queen
and had many moral obligations to her people. Such values are condemned by
The Autobiography Look Me The Eye By John Elder
Robison
CourageGeorge Carlin, an American stand up comedian and author, once said, I
like it when a flower or a little tuft of grass grows through a crack in the concrete. It
s so f****n heroic. The autobiography Look Me in the Eye by John Elder Robison
is a memoir about a man s strange aloofness towards others, but also the difficulties
he has had to over come and the courage he needed to get through them. This story
gives a glimpse into the life of an Aspergergian as he likes to call himself. Aspergers
syndrome is a form of autismthat affects the ability to effectively socialize and
communicate. This syndrome generated a vast majority of complications all
throughout his life. During his childhood, John is a social outcast. He does not
know how to befriend people, and he is very blunt and rude to his peers. This
makes it very difficult for him to create bonds with people, but he did occasionally
become acquainted with the other outcasts such as his friend named Jeff.
Robinson s teenage years were even worse. John was labeled as the class clown
and began to fail school even though he was very smart he just did not care
anymore; consequently, this lead him into the path of dropping out of school.
However, after he quit school he had started working for a small band fixing their
EQ amps. This was good for John because it gave him a chance to interact more with
people while making money and traveling. After that, he started working for
successful bands like KISS and Pink
Uranium Mining Impacts
Uranium is most notably recognised for its radioactivity however, when compared
with other radioactive elements, Uranium has quite slow rate of decay (Pappas,
2015). U 235, an isotope of Uranium, can be used in a fission bomb due to the fact
that when its nucleus splits it releases substantial amounts of energy. The most
infamous example of how uraniumhas been used in this way is the atomic uranium
bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan by the U.S in 1945 (Atomic Heritage
Foundation, n.d.). Furthermore, the same properties that allow uranium to be used in
a bomb, are valued in the world of nuclear energy. Nuclear powerstations use energy
from uranium to produce electricity and this production accounts for approximately

Parts of the Finniss River have been contaminated as a result of acids draining into
the system. Here, acid mine drainage has leached as a by product of the Rum Jungle

resulted in the popular Rum Jungle South Recreation Reserve being shut down

mining centre located in South Australia is home to the largest known single uranium
deposit in the world as well as a metallurgical processing plant (Mining Technology,
n.d.). Olympic Dam has a significant impact on the South Australian environment,
with a water consumption rate of more than 35 million litres daily, from bore fields at
southern end of the Great Artesian Basin. This figure makes it the largest industrial
consumer of underground water in the Southern Hemisphere (Australian Map of
Nuclear and Uranium Sites, 2013). The Great Artesian Basin supports a number
springs, which in turn support smaller wetlands and creeks. The water use at Olympic
dam has negatively influenced the health of these springs by reducing the flow of
water through them and therefore the wildlife that rely on them (Mudd,

The Women s Suffrage Movement Essay
We hold these truths to be self evident: That all men and women are created equal. In
the 19th century, the state of freedom of women in the United States was limited and
contained a non egalitarian relationship between men and women. Due to the effect
of the Seneca Falls Convention, led to a time of change and reform known as the
Women s Suffrage Movement. In the United States Civil War, women of the Union
and Confederacy played an essential role with new responsibilities contributing
assistance to men fighting in the war. During the wartime, feminists presented their
political capabilities and contributions in the significance of the nation. Since women
played an active role throughout the wartime, Northern women s rights movement
seek for recognition and deliberated a reasonable compensation for the right to vote.
Abolitionists rejected the idea of women s suffrage and bind with Republicans to
pursue the campaign of African American men suffrage. By the ratification of the
fourteenth and fifteenth amendment, women were denied the vote in federal
elections. In 1848, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony extracted from the
Equal Rights Association and unified a secret meeting of their followers to form the
National Women Suffrage Association (NWSA).
July of 1848 Seneca Falls Convention included a two day meeting initiating the
struggle for women s equality and motivating a group of women to demand justice
and rights of citizenship. On the first day of the

The Use Of Hypnosis And Its Effects On The Brain
Hypnosis has proven to involve much activity in the brain. It is much more than a
person obeying, there are underlying mechanisms in the brain that are still being
studied today.
Evidence
Hypnosis has been used for a variety of reasons. Two categories it is used a lot in are
addiction and phobias. With the use of hypnosis, a person can connect the addiction to
something extremely distasteful which in turn makes the person not want to
participate in the action anymore. Or hypnotism can change the mindset of a person
with an extreme fear so that they no longer associate that fear with the object or
action. Three studies were reviewed, a 2007 study on smoking cessation, a 2006 study
on dental phobia, and a 2007 study on needle phobia. A study by Carmody, Duncan,
Simon, Solkowitz, Huggins, Lee, and Delucchi (2007) researched different hypnosis
interventions and then chose the one they believed would be the most helpful and
compared it to behavioral counseling. Both of the treatments also had nicotine
patches. The intervention was geared to heighten the commitment to stop smoking as
well as prevention. The hypnosis session included suggestion and guided imagery.
Their study consisted of 265 men and women that smoked at least 10 cigarettes a day
and wanted to quit. 137 of those participants received hypnosis while 128 went
through behavioral counseling.
The hypnosis treatment group received two hour long face to face sessions provided
by a public health educator that was

The Israelites want to set a monarchy like all nations, but Samuel, the judge of Israel,
does not want to establish the monarchy. Why is Samuel unpleasant to the request of
the Israelites to set a King?
1 When Samuel became old, he made his sons judges over Israel. 2 The name of
his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah; they were judges in
Beer sheba. 3 Yet his sons did not follow in his ways, but turned aside after gain;
they took bribes and perverted justice. 4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered
together and came to Samuel at Ramah, 5 and said to him, You are old and your
sons do not follow in your ways; appoint for us, then, a king to govern us, like other

However, Saul is soon abandoned by God because of his disobediences. Yet, Saul s
disobedience is controversial. Patricia K. Tull, the author of 1 and 2 Samuel in
Theological Bible Commentary, argues, Saul s exact offense is unclear, and
commentators struggle to reconstruct it, augmenting the impression that he was
given a test with no correct choices. In contrast, Marvin Sweeney, the professor of
the Hebrew Bible in Claremont School of Theology, asserts, Although the narrative
can hardly be considered anti monarchic, it takes care to raise concerns about the
character of kingship and its costs to the nation at large and it demands that proper
kingship in Israel must be exercised in accordance with the divine will. In this
view, Saul has not been accorded with God s will. Then, is this God s intentional
choice? If it is true, why he does this? If God did not choose Saul as the king, it
would be possible that he is not deserted from God. Bible

or creates a threatening, antagonistic or unpleasant work environment (EEOC, 2002).
The victim or harasser can either be a man or a woman, and sexual harassmentis not

To avoid sexual harassment s expensive penalty and diminish its occurrence,
employers need to recognize and understand both the reason for the harassment and
the precise form of power being abused (UMC, 2007).
According to Goodman (1991), power in sexual harassment has been viewed
differently by men and women. The literature on sexual harassment generally
characterizes it as an abuse of either role or sexual power. From the cases Goodman
(1991) mentions in her report, it can be noted that for men, power comes from
official authority, and they view sexual harassers as principally managers and
supervisors. Men acknowledged that co workers could sexually harass one another,
but co worker harassment was mainly seen as a mix up (UMC, 2007). However,
women often distinguish all members of an organization as possible harassers,
viewing it can be initiated by any person who is perceived as having power.
However, it has been claimed that sexual harassment regulations are based on the
point of view of the victim, nearly always a woman, and based almost completely on
the feelings of the victim. Many men have argued that, it is almost impracticable to
understand each other s feelings, and many suits filed for sexual harassment supposed
as misunderstandings between the two parties (Goodman, 1991). Paul (2001) agrees
that or women to expect respectful treatment in the workplace is utopian, yet he also
Essay on David Fletcher Case
This case explores the problems managers face when assembling a team. David
Fletcher, is an overworked portfolio manager of the Emerging Growth Fund at
Jenkins, Fletcher Partners (JFP), an investment management firm in New York. As an
individual, his superior performance throughout his career has earned him an
outstanding reputation. Starting out as a clerk, he rose through the ranks of Wall
Street to eventually manage the two most aggressive mutual funds at a major
investment firm. Success at this firm only added to his reputation and lead to his
current role at JFP, a smaller firm with an informal culture. At JFP, Fletcher is
challenged with the new responsibility of managing a team, in addition to managing
his portfolio.

Though Fletcher has enjoyed long term success as a portfolio manager, he stumbles
as a team manager. One example is in his relationship with Stephanie Whitney.
Though he described is as a mentor protГ©gГ© relationship, he admits to having
little time to train her. While he provided her with general career guidance, he
explains that it was her own resourcefulness and initiative that allowed her to ascend
from an administrative assistant position to the role of analyst. This transition, as
noted by one of her colleagues, was difficult for Whitney and she struggled with
establishing her identity as an aspiring portfolio manager. Because of Fletcher s hands
off approach to managing people, Whitney s growth was stifled under his
management, which was a contributing factor to her eventual resignation.
Hiring Brian Doyle without considering how he would get along with Whitney was
another mistake Fletcher made in assembling his team. A seasoned financial
consultant to high technology firms in Silicon Valley, Doyle had frequent contact
with Fletcher over the years and offered valuable industry knowledge. However, he
did not meet Whitney prior to joining the team and it soon became evident to Fletcher
that tension existed between the two. It isn t surprising that Fletcher failed to
consider their compatibility. Being a task oriented person, he only values a person s

Fruitvale Station

University of New England
Fruitvale Station is a movie that has the capability to bring many emotions to the
surface. This movie can foster critical thinking, but it can also draw the viewer in to
experience the raw emotions and suspenseful moments of this real life story.
Unfortunately, Oscar Grant s life was ended abruptly after he spent the night
celebrating the New Year with his friends and girlfriend, Sophina. From this story, it
is clear that Oscar was attempting to change his story by being a better father to his
daughter, Tatiana, thinking about marrying Sophina, and better providing for his
family by getting a stable job and being a man that his mother and sister could rely
upon. While the incident that occurred at Fruitvale Station could be analyzed from
any variety of theories, this paper will examine these events from the lens of Conflict
Theory and Social Learning Theory. These theories intertwine in many ways, but they
also differ from each other in very important aspects. Fruitvale Station is a cinema
depiction of a true story involving the death of Oscar Grant in a train station in
Oakland, California during the early morning hours of January 1, 2009. This incident
has sparked many civil rights related protests and discussions. Oscar Grant was
survived by his mother, who has been very vocal since the incident, fighting for equal
rights for minorities, his sister, and his daughter, Tatiana (Johnson).

Milk And Honey Personal Response
I believe that I know the feeling of pain and love during the same time throughout
the story because I have been through the feeling myself, I have carefully witnessed
someone I love go through the feeling, and I can sympathize and have empathy
towards Kaur s feelings. Milk and Honey is about finding the sweetness from the
pain. The poems communicate the pains of Kaur s life; she goes through love, loss,
abuse, breaking, and healing. She even fights against violence and stands with
femininity without being silenced. However, despite any struggle she comes across,
she always knows that there is some happiness coming in the process, even if it is
short lived, because sweetness is everywhere when you look hard enough. She wants

Sourdough Vs Yeast
Third, there is no additives added in sourdough bread.
We cannot say that commercial yeast bread is bad and sourdough bread is good.
The consumers like sourdough bread because it does not contain any additives. The
acid produces by lacto bacillus lowers (makes more acidic) the pH of the dough,
which in turn makes it a more hostile environment for other types of bacteria,
resulting in a longer shelf life and natural preservatives. Therefore sourdough bread
does not need any chemical synthetic materials, such as chemical yeast, artificial
sweeteners, preservatives, dough stabilizer, and pigment.
Many people think that sugar, butter, milk, and eggs are the necessary ingredients in
making bread. But they are not. They added to short fermentation bread to improve
flavour and texture because short fermentation cannot make deep flavour. The bakers
who make pure sourdough bread never use these ingredient, they focus on seeking for
good quality organic wheat and natural ingredients. To... Show more content on

First sourdough yeast grow best in acidic doughs, while baker s yeast does better
in neutral or slightly alkaline doughs [Remember that, for reducing phytate content,
acidic condition are important, if not the vital part to the equation]. Baker s yeast
is a single species, with hundreds of strains and varieties, while sourdoughs are
usually leavened by one or more species in the same dough, none of which is baker
s yeast. Bakery s yeast is a highly uniform product that produces an equally uniform
texture in bread dough. The wild yeast are anything but uniform, and they vary from
country to country. But the most impressive difference between the two yeast types
is that a single package of instant dried yeast produces just one batch of bread, while
the same amount of wild sourdough culture produces loaf after loaf for the lifetimes
of many bakers.
How Does Racism Affect Melba
Racism makes up most of the story and is the main obstacle for Melba. As she
recalls her life as a teenager, she tells about how she suffered almost all of her
school year. This is meaningful mainly because readers today need to learn about
how hard her life was as a result of racism. Readers need to learn about what racism
can do to people and society when it is an extreme. Melba went through hardships
every day at school and still chose to go even when the she had to live in misery
every day. When Melba sees how the kids at school treat her, she later says It s

recital lineup consisted of music by three well known musicians which include
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Frederic Chopin. I was
pleased with the reemergence of the ten pieces of music. It provided me with

I was disappointed with the starting time of the performance. The delayed start of the
concert came with the lighting of the music hall. The prolonged start also caused a
few people in the audience to get up and leave. After twenty minutes the program had

Classical Approach And Human Relations Approach
When looking at both the Classical Approach and the Human Relations Approach
in a comparative sense, it is easy to clearly point out the vast differences between
the two methodologies given that many of the core principles and beliefs of each
organisational model are polar opposites of eachother. However in saying that, both
approaches consider themselves to be the One best approach , which I believe to be
a common flaw amongst the two.
As an employee of two companies (past and present) , I have to a certain degree
experienced both organisational models. I myself consider the human relations
approach to be superior to that of the classical approach because of my personal

Looking At The Angel Capital Group
Angel investors are another way to start a business, like banks and venture capitalists.
It is their job to invest, they just have different evaluations to make an investment
worth their attention. Looking at the Angel Capital Group will expose the evaluations
they use, and give ideas weather or not an angel investoris right for the business one
seeks to have funded (Angel Capital Group, 2015). Understanding their proximity,
value, experience and other factors will help define what the angel investor is all
about (Bell, 2007). Putting other factual information together along with what the
angel is and what they are looking for will give a picture of what the possibilities
are for this type of endeavor. Where is the angel investor and where is the
business? The angel wants to feel close to the business, at least, if not be right next
door so they can check in easily (Bell, 2007). Just like mom can be a pain because
she knows so much about her baby, the angel wants to make sure you are healthy
and on a righteous path. They are here to help the business grow and become all it
can be, and have an interest in giving the entrepreneur help to do just that (Angel

many other things that might be harder to get at all by oneself. Why trust an angel

After using the historical approach to analyze this story and researching the author

the character portrayed contributing to that theme.
A plot is a dynamic element in fiction, a sequence of interrelated, conflicting actions
and events that typically build to a climax and bring about a resolution. In this
story the plot is by no means climatic but it starts with a tragic death, which draws
you in, I know morbid but true. Everyone is afraid to tell the young woman about
her husband s death because of her weak heart. They all fear she will die from grief.
But when she is told, she locks herself in her room after a crying fit, again, everyone
worried that she will make herself ill with grief.
But this is not what the young woman is doing. She is realizing something,
struggling with something. You have to keep reading because now you want to

you can figure it out before the epiphany happens, but you have to read carefully. If

Financial Statements And Balance Sheet
Manager within the farm, as well as the firm owners and those in leadership roles,
help keep track of the firm s performance by reviewing its financial statements like
income statements and balance sheet. The income statement is one of the major
financial statements used by accountants and business owners. The income statement
is sometimes called profit and loss statement, statement of operations or statement of
income. It is important because it shows the profitability of a company during the
time interval specified on the heading. The income statement shows revenues,
expenses, gains, and losses; it does not show cash receipts nor cash disbursements.
People pay attention to the profitability of a company for many reasons, and the
income statement helps in doing this in that it helps current lenders and investors,
company management, competitors, government agencies, labor union, and others.
The expense items located on the income statement appear under five major
categories
1.Expense for cost of goods sold or cost of services or sales
2.Operating expenses selling

Any project done for the community, we the people pay for with our taxes just for

for fencing. It isnt fair to those who arent able to have pets or doesnt have the funds

How Long Can War Be Avoided
Although many historians, politicians, and even teachers would like us to be
optimistic upon the subject of peace, there is no denying the inevitability of war.
War and death are one in the same, they both can be attempted to be fixed or cured,
but in the end war is as inevitable as dying. Although Obama s speech that brought
hope for peace could potentially prevent a wartoday, it cannot prevent what is in
store for the future. For example following the first World War America pursued a
number of strategies with the goal of preventing war including the Neutrality Acts.
However, despite America s best efforts to stay out of england s affairs and war the
United Statesfully participated in the Second World War not even thirty years later.

Conflict creates strong impulses such as fear and hostility, but due to the
disapproval of society, many people have quickly learned to not acknowledge them
at all, not even to themselves, when these impulses are involved in a conflict, the
person is anxious, but does not know why. They are then less able to bring rational
thinking to bear on the problem which in extreme cases can and have lead to war.
We frequently experience disagreements with others that are left unresolved or
dealt with incorrectly. When in these disagreements we feel we must win the
argument at all cost that is when we see the break of warfare, both at a personal
level and a global level. Once we abandon the idea of resolving conflict, the
inevitably, sooner or later, ignites into something much worse, into battle.Obama s

warfare is engagement in or the activities involved in war or conflict , and it is hard
to imagine the prevention of warfare without conflict when dealing with radical
groups such as ISIS. Although it s nice to be optimistic and believe in long lasting

Ethical Dilemma Of Pornography
Benchmark Ethical Dilemmas
Lindsay Rohland (2015) defined an ethical dilemma as, a complicated situation in
which one must make a difficult choice or decision in the face of conflicting morals.
The choice between right or wrong may seem a challenging but a person s morals are
typically influenced by religion. Christianity has answers for every dilemma a person
could be facing. The ethical dilemma of pornography will be analyzed by the
Christian worldview, and compared to the perspective of the pantheistic worldview.
Ethical Dilemma
Pornography is an ethical dilemma that affects men and women from all walks of
life. In TJ s case, porn is photographs or videos that depict of erotic subjects with the
intension to titillate the audience (Pornography, 2017). Making an ethical decision
is difficult for TJ because of his options: continue to practice his freedom rights to
privately watch and giving up the pleasure he receives from watching porn.
Continuing will put himself at risk but by quitting he will no longer be supporting
the pornography business. If TJ is a Christian, he could look to the core beliefs to
help him decide.
Core Beliefs
The Christian worldview is enforced by the Bible, which does not mention
pornography because videography had yet to exist. However, the Bible does mention
various forms of sin, prohibited sex and acts of the mind that would cause a person
s sexual immortality. Galatians 5 (NIV) states, 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious:
sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery... 21orgies, and the like. I warn you, as
I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Based
off scripture, humanity should not partake activities such as fornication, incest,
adultery, orgies, and rape; all popular pornographic storylines. Watching
pornographic videos could cause lust and sinful thoughts in. Lust is secular and will
separate a person from God (1 John 2:26, NIV). Knowing this may influence a
Christian to not indulge on pornography and actively seek counsel.
Resolution
A specific problem may not be clearly stated word for word in the Bible, but Jesus is
and always will be the answer, according to the Christian worldview. The ethical
dilemma of pornography is caused

and store purchases resulted in a minimum of 252 with net profit equaling 850,000.

would be to pursue upscale stores accounts, by doing this the company can market
via ads, point of sales display and ad plans could be presented, the ability to produce

decentralize 350 stores. The disadvantage is that all the stores would have different

Comparative Essay Catcher and Breakfast Club
The Catcher in the Rye and The Breakfast Club Various pieces of literature and
entertainment exhibit similar characteristics in their writing style, themes, and
portrayals. These features are in each piece to enhance the reading and viewing. The
novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, and the movie The Breakfast Club
directed by John Hughes, are two works that are similar in some significant aspects.
Both compositions overflow with the theme of teenage rebellion, use rich vernacular,
and portray adults as corrupt and unreasonable. These resemblances are recognized
through the character s actions and opinions in both pieces.
A prominent theme in the novel The Catcher in the Rye is teenage rebellion.

A common word Holden employs the use of is phony . This is seen when he says
For instance, they had this headmaster, Mr. Haas, that was the phoniest bastard I
ever met in my life (Salinger, 13). Other uses of vernacular include the words
galoshes, crumby, flit, dough, chisel, swanky, and swell. These words add to the
emotion and descriptive quality of the novel. Some guy next to me was snowing
hell out of the babe he was with is an example of vernacular that helps to describe
Holden s thoughts (Salinger, 142). An example of slang used to add detail to the
writing is, I had a feeling old Ackley d probably heard all the racket and was awake
(Salinger, 46). The particular language selected in the writing of The Catcher in the
Rye also helps the reader relate to the main character, and is therefore an effective
style of writing in many situations.
The movie The Breakfast Club teems with vernacular that adds value its descriptive
language. Much of the vernacular, like The Catcher in the Rye, is used according to
the time period the pieces were released. A prime example of vernacular is when
Bender imitated his father saying, Stupid, worthless, no good, goddamn, freeloading
son of a bitch. Retarded, big mouth, know it all, asshole, jerk (Hughes, 1985). Other
pieces of vernacular include babbling, hot beef injection, totaled, nads,
The Romanticism Period
History is the story and knowledge of the past. There are individuals that are
interested by history and wish to study it by learning more. It is very informative to
know what has happened in the past for self knowledge. An individual cannot be
naГЇve to the past including but not limited to how literature came to. One can
understand literature more when they understand the time period the author wrote
during and the way they wrote. There are several time periods different authors have
been through with each period having specific beliefs. Romanticismis the time period
that interests me the most; it was a time during the eighteenth century and focused on
nature along with the individual s expression of imagination and emotion. The...

He is known as the father of Romanticism. He believed that humans must follow the
promptings of our own nature , and not be bound by social laws of politeness. He
also wrote an autobiography, Confessions that discusses his experience of crossing
the Alps alone on foot; Confessions is a perfect example of his Romantic passion,
for example, I need torrents, rocks, firs, dark woods, mountains... to make me
afraid (King 11). Smart is recognized as an original poet and forerunner of the
Romantics, best known is his loving itemization of the qualities of his cat, a
classically Romantic appreciation of a being that rejoices in being itself and
living for the day. Chatterton inspired Coleridge, Wordsworth, and Shelley because
of his determination to seek his life in London although he was depressed and died
at a young age. He was a product of youthful genius. Coleridge describes him as the
marvelous Boy, the sleepless Soul that perished in his pride. Chatterton s early
death is also said to be a Romantic foreshadowing of the early deaths of all three of
the second generation of Romantic poets (King 13 15). Godwin was an atheist and
believed humans could improve themselves without institutions or laws. His
daughter was Mary Godwin, who married Percy Shelley. She wrote Frankenstein,
which is known as a Gothic novel in Romanticism (King 16). The period also
developed lyrical ballads, short poems that express personal

Spirituality and religion This study seeks to add to the knowledge base pertaining to
the role of spirituality and religion in the educational experiences and outcomes of
African American (male) students (Jett, 2010). It is important to have values of any
kind that mean something personally for an individual including spirituality and
religion, this can help guide young adult male further into completion of a college
degree. Although the four A.A. men in the study are spiritually grounded, they do not
share the same religious affiliations or denominations (Jett, 2010).
Racial identity, self efficacy, institutional integration, and academic achievement

Poor Living and Working Conditions as the Reason for Bolsheviks Seizure of Power
in 1917
Around eighty percent of Russia s population were peasants who lived in
communities. Living and working conditions for most peasants were dreadful,
famine and starvation were common. People worked for long hours, their wages
were low and rent was high. In factory towns people lived in overcrowded slums
and there were very few sanitary facilities. Poor living and working conditions
existed all the way, while other causes of the Bolshevik seizure of power came in later
on. Peasants wanted change, but they were not getting it. The peasants became
furious and more issues got worse for them. Everything added up ... Show more

In 1911 Stolypin was assassinated and, in the years 1911 1914, protests and strikes
began to increase. Nicholas II took Russia into the First World War. The First World
War had created conditions in Russia that favoured the revolution. The war
worsened Russian conditions, food and fuel shortages in the town led to protests
and strikes, the agricultural system crumbled due to lack of workers, the railway
system began to collapse, it was increasingly difficult to get food and fuel supplies
to the city. Bad leadership in the front and lack of equipment and clothing led to
mutinies in the army. The war speeded up the process of change people had soon
had enough with the Tsar and of what they thought was a pointless war. Most
people wanted a short victorious war, but there was a shortage of rifles and other
munitions equipment, military leadership was bad. In cities like Petrograd many
strikes and demonstrations took place. By 1917, the army was no longer
supporting the Tsar. He now had no effective means of suppressing the revolt, so
this led to the Tsar s abdication. However this is not the most important cause for
the Bolsheviks seizure of power in 1917 because Lenin persuaded people to join his
party and go against the government by using Marxist views.

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs
Kendall Smith Mrs. Payton 2: Lens 1st Draft 24 September 2014 Abraham
Maslow was an American philosopher who was born in the early 1990 s in
Brooklyn, New York. He was one of the leading theorists that promoted humanistic
psychology during his era. Maslow sought to understand what motivates and
inspires individuals. He theorized that individuals possess and hold a group of
motivation and incentive systems not related to plunder or insensible desires.
Maslow declared that people are motivated and provoked to attain certain needs.
When one need is fulfilled a person seeks to fulfill the next one, and so on. The
earliest version of Maslow s hierarchy of needs includes five motivational needs,
often viewed as hierarchical levels inside a pyramid. The five stage representation
can be separated into basic needs and growth needs. The deficiency or basic needs
are said to motivate and stimulate individuals when they are unmet and not fully
attained. Also, the desire to fulfill and accomplish such wants and needs will
become stronger the longer the duration they are denied. Once these needs have
been relatively satisfied, an individual may be capable of reaching the highest level
of the pyramid called self actualization. Maslow though that self actualization is a
state that exists when an individual is acting in harmony with his or her full
capabilities. In Cormac McCarthy s novel, The Road, we will examine the character
s physical journey towards self actualization on Maslow
The Threat From Abuse Of New Technologies
The Internet today offers more extensive and more profound online interpersonal
organizations, new and potentially for overall user and changing innovations from
application to foundation level. Which elevate the virtualization, alongside more
devious troubles to security. These difficulties are moved to a specific degree by
cybercriminal endeavors to get benefit. While it is hard to cover each conceivable
danger outcome that may happen in America and beyond, with law enforcement

How should new technologies be regulated? Can they be regulated?
In order to regulate new technologies, first American will have quit confiding in the
Internet, and in this way the need to begin address issues of significance manual like
paying a bill at the organization office as opposed to utilizing the web and giving out
their own data. , is regularly referred to as a standout amongst the most imperative
impediments to the utilization of the Internet and e trade. Web administration is a
noteworthy point in its own particular right.
Keeping in mind the end goal to include all partners and guarantee complete
cybersecurity insurances, national governments are regularly in the best position to
actualize new security strategies. These approaches ought to touch on a wide range of
regions including highlighting the significance of ICTs to the country; recognizing
and breaking down the dangers from digital wrongdoing and assaults; building up
targets, for example, anticipation, identification and arraignment of digital violations;
and setting an arrangement to accomplish these destinations that subtle elements the
partners parts and obligations regarding information security and cybersecurity. I
believed the new technology can be regulated, with intelligence and cybersecurity it
can be done.

Athena In The Iliad
Athena is one of the most loved and important goddess in Greece culture because she
represented strength, wisdom, and compassion. Athena was the daughter of Zeus and
was even considered one of his favorites. Zeus was the king of the god making
Athena a very important part of the Greek mythology as well. Athenaalso represented
wisdom and war, something that the Greeks held very close to them and even
considered war to be the ultimate honor. Athena s well rounded and honorable
personality is something they truly loved and respected her.
Athena represented her wisdom through battle. She was an expert in warfare, always
appearing on the battlefield to motivate and help her fellow Greek soldiers. In
Homer s epic poem the Iliad, Athena plays a major
Denali Park Research Paper
Denali National Park is one of the most beautiful sights in the United States. The
park is located in the state of Alaska. It has many areas in its location for its size
being about 6,200,000 million acres. The main thing I am here to discuss is the
issues that surround Denali Park. The park is experiencing problems with the severe
climate change, excessive hunting, and possible endangerment. All these problems
have been in the media lately because of the park s history. It is still the top tourist
attraction in Alaska. The environment of Denali needs to be solved immediately
because it is one of the most known parks in the world. It would be a shame if the
problem wasn t fixed. Alaska s background is so beautiful with nature. Its wildlife
has so much variety in its location. Animals such as bears, caribou, moose, foxes, and
notorious wolves roam Denali. There are many other animals, including fish that live
in that site. Not only many beautiful animals live there but plants, lichens, mosses
live there too. It holds up to 650 species of vegetation. In a cold area, it is surprising
that many plants live there. But... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This park is in serious danger of losing its main attraction which is its environment
and animals. That is the reason why tourists come to the beautiful sit of Denali
Park. This world we live in is a wonderful place to live and its worth fighting for.
This park is just the beginning for other parks as well from these dangers to life.
Climate change, hunting, or even endangerment should not stop people from
trying to save this park. Denali Park is a beauty and has many sites for future
people to see. Park rangers and state troopers of Alaska need to step it up and
become more aware of the situation. The views of Denali will reach its beginning
lifestyle no matter what it takes. I believe that change is needed for this park from

The Red Badge Of Courage Is Henry A Coward
In the Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane the main character Henry (the
youth) is portrayed as a prideful and a coward character. In the beginning of the
book his mom constantly tries to persuade him not going to war. He was told by his
mother many times that he was not ready physically and mentally to go out into
battle. She warns him that he should not try to be the Rambo and you don t always
have to be the hero. Although Henry disobeys his mom s tips in warsuch as, avoid
being too prideful in any situation, refrain from being a coward, and sometimes you
don t always have to be the hero; but seems to disobey her thoughts.
Henry is the type of character that we know in many of the books we read.

Socrates And Achilles
Socrates and Achilles: the Martyr Heroes
Madelyn Vogel
ILS 205
By comparing himself to the Greek hero Achilles before the jury in Plato s Apology,
Socrates attempts to portray himself as a hero of equal merit to Achilles and others
of similar standing. By selecting the greatest of the Classical Greeks to compare and
contrast himself to in his argument, Socrates surreptitiously urges his audience to
view him as being of the same caliber as Achilles. This not only authenticates
Socrates claims, but also exhibits his disconnect from earlier forms of thought.
Essentially, Socrates attempts to display himself in the same light as his predecessor
Achilles through their shared aspiration to do what they deem to be right in addition
to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the battle of Troy, Achilles chooses almost certain death in exchange for the
honor of avenging Patroclus. As Socrates paraphrases, when his mother said to
him, as he was eager to slay Hector, My son, if you avenge the death of your friend
Patroclus and kill Hector, you yourself shall die; for straightway, after Hector, is
death appointed unto you, (The Apology, 28c). However, Socrates is relatively
loose in his representation of Achilles. Homer s Achilles is focused primarily on
private affairs as seen when he only agrees to return to battle to avenge personal loss
in the form of his beloved Patroclus (The Iliad, book 18, 120). Contrastingly, Socrates
represents the Greek hero as being much more absorbed by the necessity of attaining
honor and justice for both himself and his peers. Through this specific example,
Socrates makes it apparent that, he, like Achilles before him, is both willing and
able to die if that is what it takes to find truth. He will under no circumstances
condemn any of his actions just to save his life. Socrates primary motivation for
comparing himself to Achilles, the best of all the classic heroes, is to convince the
jury of his Achillean heroism. One attribute of a hero according to the events of the
Iliad is that one must either kill or be killed in the pursuit of honor. Correspondingly,
the Iliad chronicles Achilles life and death on the natural path to heroism. Despite the
Leadership As A Fundamental Learning Tool
Leadership Project Movies identified to the topic of leadership serve as a
fundamental learning tool. When conducting this leadership project the following
movies were used: Patch Adams, A Few Good Men, The Lion King, and The Social
Network. After watching the movies each one was thoroughly analyzed on the type
of leadershipstyle portrayed in the film. Many movies contain characters that exhibit
leadership qualities or circumstances that provide insights and can help you explore
some excellent examples of leadership. Based on a true story of Hunter Patch Adams,
the founder of the Gesundheit Clinic, a facility which manages their patients with
pathos and humor. The film begins with Patch admitting himself as a patient in a
mental hospital. While there, he discovered he loved helping the patients and
observed the staff to be emotionless and would separate themselves from the patients.
Vowing to change things, he discharges himself from the facility and went to the
Virginia Medical College. His untraditional approaches cast him up against numerous
of the doctors and deans of the college, in spite of him getting some of the highest
grades in his class. Recognizing that numerous underprivileged individuals were not
being treated fairly, as a student he started the Gesundheit Clinic to help the
individuals who were not getting appropriate treatment at the hospital. In any case,
this brought him up before the Medical Review Board for practicing without a
license. Patch is
Analysis of Stephen King
Stephen King: On Writing
Stephen King is a man of many talents and personalities; not only is he able to
scare his readers immensely, he is also able to make them laugh. I chose a passage
from Stephen King s On Writing for this assignment; the passage stuck in my mind
for a long time after I finished the book. His writing style is unique compared to the
other autobiographies I have read over the years. Everything that a person writes
has a meaning or purpose whether it s a letter or an essay and voice, tone, and style
play a very important part in how the reader views the piece of writing. King
manipulates the rules of writing in order to emphasize the meaning of the passage,
which is to describe an early childhood experience, so the ... Show more content on

  • 3. The Negative Effects Of African People In Joseph Conrad s... Joseph Conrad wrote the book Heart of Darkness supporting a single story about the African people, not at all close to the truth, causing Chinua Achebe to create Things Fall Apart to directly counteract the negative effects of the false images Conrad illustrates. Both Conrad and Achebe write stories about how white men enter the living areas of African tribes and what happens, but Achebe writes his book in a way where you see the African as actual people. Conrad suggests that the Africans are people of lower intelligences and a savage mindset, but this is not the case at all, in reality they are the people Achebe shows them as, smart intelligent people that live in structured societies. Achebe contradicts what Conrad illustrates in a scene where he is supporting the single story that Africans are unintelligent people. Conrad describes how the white men walk past the Africans on their journey, which displays his views on the white man in comparison to the Africans, We glided past like phantoms, wondering and secretly appalled, as sane men would be before an enthusiastic outbreak in a madhouse (Conrad). Conrad is seemingly presenting that Africans are insane people by comparing them to the inmates in a madhouse. He makes the white men seem superior in intelligence by saying how the white man avoids contact with the Africans; this is presented when he describes the movement as a glide which would mean they are trying to not interact with the Africans, but try maneuver their
  • 4. The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat Case Study Case SummaryIn the third section of The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat, Oliver Sacks introduces two new patients: Mrs. O C and Mrs. O M. Sacks opens with the case of Mrs. O C. One night, Mrs. O C was dreaming about her childhood in Ireland and the music she would dance and sing to. When she woke up, she was still hearing the same song. At first, she thought that she was remembering her dream, but the song kept playing and it did not go away. As the day continued, she started to fear for her sanity and quickly went to see Dr. Sacks. Sacks performed an EEG test on her and found that whenever Mrs. O C said she was experiencing a musical moment, her temporal lobe was hyperactive. This indicated to Sacks that she was experiencing an epileptic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seizures stimulated by thinking of music also supported this theory since there is recruitment of musical memory and its associated emotion (Maguire, 2012). Mrs. O C is a good example of this. Mrs. O C only had seizures when thinking about her childhood in Ireland and the specific Irish songs she would sing and dance to. Orphaned at five years old, Mrs. O C moved to America to live with family. These Irish songs caused her to be flooded with memories of her time in Ireland when her mother and father were both alive, a time she had hardly remembered before these musical seizures began (Sacks, 1970). It is also interesting to consider Mrs. O M s case when thinking about emotional connections. Mrs. O M reported no emotional connection to the songs she was hearing, however had been humming them before the seizures began. This seems to indicate that there was some type of emotional connection and that is probably why those specific songs were what played on repeat in her head every time she had a seizure (Sacks, 1970). This emotional connection is thought to be due to synchronized rhythms of electrical activity. When neuronal rhythms are synchronized in specific brain regions, memories are formed more effectively. Responding to a song emotionally is thought the cause neurons to become excited and form these synchronized rhythms which in turn cause the brain to associate seizures with memories of a specific genre/type of music (Swaminathan,
  • 5. Track And Field Hall Of Fame As a college student attending UNC Chapel Hill, Allen Johnson watched the 1992 Summer Olympics on television, telling himself that he would win a gold medal at the next Summer Olympics. 25 years later, the 46 year old reflected on the historical day at the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta, that led him to win a gold medal in the 110 meter hurdles. It was a moment of reflection for me. I thought of my parents, friends and all my coaches that helped me get to this point, Johnson said. Surrealism struck the 25 year old gold medalist as soon as he crossed the finish line ahead of all his competitors. I was very happy and it was surreal winning. It sunk in at the moment that I had just won a gold medal at the Olympics, Johnson said.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now a seven time world champion, inducted into the Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2015 and a gold medal recipient, Johnson now has a long list of credentials he can prioritize. You know being inducted into the Track and Field Hall of Fame means more to me than winning a gold medal because you have people that vote you in and feel like you deserve to be mentioned with other track and field legends, the Hall of Fame inductee said. After officially retiring from the sport of track and field in 2010, Johnson became an assistant coach in 2011 at the Air Force Academy working with the sprints and hurdle individuals. I never wanted to coach but once Coach Ralph called me, I figured why not, Johnson said. After spending three seasons coaching at the Air Force Academy, Johnson accepted a position as an assistant track and field coach at the University of Kentucky where he coached one year before coming to coach at N.C. State. Entering his second year as an assistant track and field coach at N.C. State University, Johnson has big goals set for the N.C. State track and field
  • 6. Essay On Columbine Shooting On the morning of April 20, 1999 Adolf Hitler s birthday two students entered Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, with as many guns and pipe bombs as they could carry. The original plan was to plant bombs in the cafeteria to drive teachers and students to the parking lot, and from there they would shoot as many people as they could. More explosives would be detonated once police and ambulances arrived. But the first set of bombs failed to explode. So instead, Eric Harris and Dylan Kleboldsimply wandered their way around school grounds, gunning down whoever was unfortunate enough to cross their path. In less than an hour, the two teens killed twelve students and a teacher. More than twenty others were also wounded. The onslaught ended when Harris and Klebold turned the guns on themselves in the library. Dylan Klebold grew up in an upper middle class family and was a kid few would have expected to carry out such an attack. His father was a geophysicist and also ran a successful mortgage business, and his mother worked with the disabled (Dylan Klebold Biography, 2015). The kid was smart and participated in a gifted student program. He was shy, loved baseball, and enjoyed being a soundman for school theater productions. Because of this, Klebold didn t mesh well with Columbine s dominant jock clique.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory states that sources of strain including failure to achieve goals, lack of positive stimuli, and the presence of negative stimuli can lead to feelings of disappointment, depression, frustration, anger, and fear (South University, 2015b). Such feelings can build up over time, eventually leading to a release of those negativities by way of causing harm to others. Klebold and Harris certainly did face plenty of negative experiences during their high school experience, and they could have viewed their inability to fit in as a failure on their
  • 7. Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) is defined by Mosby (2010) as a systemic inflammatory disease which is enabled development with inadequate treatment of upper respiratory tract infections of group A beta hemolytic streptococci. Repeated episodes of ARF can cause autoimmune reactions within the heart which in turn inflicts damage upon the heart muscle and heart valves, a condition termed as rheumatic heart disease (RHD) (Mosby, 2010). Predominately ARF and RDH cases are found to effect people living in developing countries. Steer and Carapetis (2009), have linked this issue with the lowered socioeconomic conditions, household crowding, inadequate health care and poor hygiene. In comparison both ARF and RHD have virtually been eliminated in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the pathogenic mechanism of ARF and RHD is not yet fully understood, a correlation between rheumatogenic GAS strains and inheritably liable hosts, results in abnormal immune responses and the development of autoimmunity (Steer Carapetis, 2009). This is caused by antibody cross reactivity and more specifically a result of molecular mimicry (Porth Matfin, 2009). In the usual situation of a streptococcus infection, an immune response will be instigated involving B cell presentation of the antigen, CD4 T cell differentiation, helper T cell formation and plasma B cell antibody production. Through this process the antibodies are enabled to destruct the precise protein structure of the GAS cell wall. However in this case, the targeted protein of the bacterium has considerable similarity to antigens presented on the heart and kidney tissues which causes autoimmune activity. Once the micro organisms have been eradicated, the remaining antibodies mistake the identity of certain somatic cell resulting in inflammation and the onset of ARF symptoms two to three weeks after the absence of the infection (Porth Matfin, 2009). Typical presentations of rheumatic fever (RF) include a history of sore throats, head aches, fever, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, swollen glands and other common signs and symptoms of streptococcal infection (Porth Matfin, 2009). The presentation of RF can be acute, recurrent or chronic. The acute stage
  • 8. Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding And The Perks Of... For me, coming of age novels always grab my attention contrary to other genres. Novels such as Lord of the Flies by William Golding and The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky are among some of my most beloved. In my junior year, I read A Separate Peace by John Knowles for my AP U.S. History class while I read The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger over the summer. A Separate Peace explores the rivalry that can lie at the heart of many friendships and conveys the concept of individuality rather than conformity. Similarly, The Catcher in the Rye is the story of a teenage boy who despises the phoniness of society and fears becoming just another phony adult. Both novels share similar characteristics including their utilization of literary devices as well as protagonists who battle with preserving their youthful innocence while being forced to face the brutal reality of the adult world which threatens to make them mature too soon. Both novels, although more limited, contain differences such as the setting and the protagonists personality s. Throughout both novels, Salinger and Knowles both utilize similar literary devices to convey the overarching themes of their novels. One of the main literary devices used by both authors is symbolism. In The Catcher in the Rye, the Museum of Natural History of symbolizes the timelessness that Holden lives for, while the red hunting hat symbolizes his need for individuality. In A Separate Peace, the Summer Session symbolizes
  • 9. Biblical Worldview Of The Bible What is a Biblical worldview and how does it compare to other worldviews? These are some of the most important questions every Christian should ask. Just because someone believes in God, their perspective of the world around them may be no different than someone who does not believe in God. The key a Biblical worldview is to study the Holy Bible. A Biblical worldview is a system of personal beliefs and values based solely on the Word of God. The Bible serves as a plumb line of truth through which God reveals His perspective regarding the beginning of the universe, identity, ethics and the future. Three worldviews that consistently contrast with the Biblical worldview are Naturalism, Nihilism, and Pantheism. Ethan Pope describes characteristics of a Biblical worldview in his article, Developing a Biblical Worldview. He suggests that there are two basic worldviews: one that centers on God and one that centers on nature and man. A Biblical worldview centers on God as Creator of the universe and everything in it. Others center on the belief there is no God; therefore, the universe formed itself and man is his own god. This view is called Naturalism or Atheism. (Pope, 2002). Additional key characteristics of a Biblical worldview according to Pope are listed below: п‚ЄThe Bible is God s inspired Word. п‚ЄMan is born with a sinful nature and sin is his greatest problem. п‚ЄGod provided a solution through Jesus Christ, the one and only Savior from sin. п‚ЄMiracles can be
  • 10. Animal Cruelty Is A Crime Against Humanity In order to constitute animal cruelty as a Crime Against Humanity we must prove that society is ignoring the violence towards them despite the research evidence, the government sanctions mass killings of them, and that this type of violence affects humans on a large scale (Plant, Schaik, Gullone, Flynn 2016). Although dispositional factors such as empathy and aggression may influence animal cruelty, we must look at the environmental factors that lead to the negative effects from a macro level perspective. In this analysis, I will review whether exposure to animal cruelty correlates with future maladaptive behaviors and the damaging effects it may have when perpetrated at a large scale. Part A: Exposure To Animal Cruelty And Its Negative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This proposes the idea of how actions of animal maltreatment are similar to actions of child or domestic violence. The second reason stated in the book Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Animal Abuse: Linking the Circles of Compassion for Prevention and Intervention, is that cowardly acts of aggression against vulnerable members of the family are matters of power and control. The victims can be of any size, age, gender, or species, it is simply a matter of the opportunity that presents itself (Ascione Arkow 1999). Lastly, the book Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Animal Abuse: Linking the Circles of Compassion for Prevention and Intervention, states that any act of aggression or violence within the entire family can put the members of that family at risk. The dangers of this violence may also reach out as far as the community and its children (Ascione Arkow 1999). An example of animal exploitation spilling over to other forms of violence is the relationship between animal violence and intimate partner violence. In a study done in April 2007, researchers asked both battered and non battered women to report whether their partner had any history of abusing their pets at home. The women living in the domestic violence shelter were nearly 11 times more likely to report that their partner had hurt or killed pets than the group of non battered women (Ascione, Weber, Thompson, Heath, Maruyama 2016). They also found that for the group of battered
  • 11. The Aeneid by Virgil The perception of morality is very subjective and relates heavily to what the society of the period defines as good or bad. In the Aenied, Vergil creates two characters with morally opposite values; Aenias and Dido. Aenias can be interpreted as the embodiment of what Vergil believes is right, while Dido is the embodiment of what Vergil believes to be bad. The contrast of Dido s and Aeneas behavior represents the fact that Vergil s moral values are heavily influenced by the moral values which the romans upheld, as we can see in the character Aeneas which shows many values that was heavily emphasized by the policy that Augustus enforced during Vergil s time, and the character Dido which shows the opposite values that was deemed good during that period. One of the values that was enforced during Vergil s time by Augustus was patriotism, which in the Aeniad s context is prioritizing between personal satisfaction, or the greater good. In book 4 of the Aeneid, the character Aenias and Dido represents the two opposing values, in which Aenias represents the greater good, while Dido represents the personal satisfaction. For example, Dido was willing to sacrifice her honor and the respect of her people for Aenias. I sacrificed my virtue, and the good name I once had, the one hope of undying fame. Dido s actions are an extreme example of how a person can sacrifice everything, even though she was the queen and had many moral obligations to her people. Such values are condemned by

The Autobiography Look Me The Eye By John Elder Robison CourageGeorge Carlin, an American stand up comedian and author, once said, I like it when a flower or a little tuft of grass grows through a crack in the concrete. It s so f****n heroic. The autobiography Look Me in the Eye by John Elder Robison is a memoir about a man s strange aloofness towards others, but also the difficulties he has had to over come and the courage he needed to get through them. This story gives a glimpse into the life of an Aspergergian as he likes to call himself. Aspergers syndrome is a form of autismthat affects the ability to effectively socialize and communicate. This syndrome generated a vast majority of complications all throughout his life. During his childhood, John is a social outcast. He does not know how to befriend people, and he is very blunt and rude to his peers. This makes it very difficult for him to create bonds with people, but he did occasionally become acquainted with the other outcasts such as his friend named Jeff. Robinson s teenage years were even worse. John was labeled as the class clown and began to fail school even though he was very smart he just did not care anymore; consequently, this lead him into the path of dropping out of school. However, after he quit school he had started working for a small band fixing their EQ amps. This was good for John because it gave him a chance to interact more with people while making money and traveling. After that, he started working for successful bands like KISS and Pink
  • 13. Uranium Mining Impacts Uranium is most notably recognised for its radioactivity however, when compared with other radioactive elements, Uranium has quite slow rate of decay (Pappas, 2015). U 235, an isotope of Uranium, can be used in a fission bomb due to the fact that when its nucleus splits it releases substantial amounts of energy. The most infamous example of how uraniumhas been used in this way is the atomic uranium bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan by the U.S in 1945 (Atomic Heritage Foundation, n.d.). Furthermore, the same properties that allow uranium to be used in a bomb, are valued in the world of nuclear energy. Parts of the Finniss River have been contaminated as a result of acids draining into the system. Here, acid mine drainage has leached as a by product of the Rum Jungle mine and has been toxic to the aquatic ecosystem and its vegetation and fauna (ABC News, 2016). Furthermore, low level radiation was detected in in the area which resulted in the popular Rum Jungle South Recreation Reserve being shut down (Australian Broadcasting Corporation, 2014). Additionally, The Olympic Dam mining centre located in South Australia is home to the largest known single uranium deposit in the world as well as a metallurgical processing plant (Mining Technology, n.d.). Olympic Dam has a significant impact on the South Australian environment, with a water consumption rate of more than 35 million litres daily, from bore fields at southern end of the Great Artesian Basin. This figure makes it the largest industrial consumer of underground water in the Southern Hemisphere (Australian Map of Nuclear and Uranium Sites, 2013). The Great Artesian Basin supports a number springs, which in turn support smaller wetlands and creeks. The water use at Olympic dam has negatively influenced the health of these springs by reducing the flow of water through them and therefore the wildlife that rely on them (Mudd,

As an incoming college freshman I thought that I had it all figured out. My plan was to graduate with my degree in Business Management. This plan changed as I began to take more courses related to the field. I was not successful in classes and I did not find them interesting, so it was just a struggle to pass. In the 19th century, the state of freedom of women in the United States was limited and contained a non egalitarian relationship between men and women. Due to the effect of the Seneca Falls Convention, led to a time of change and reform known as the Women s Suffrage Movement. In the United States Civil War, women of the Union and Confederacy played an essential role with new responsibilities contributing assistance to men fighting in the war. During the wartime, feminists presented their political capabilities and contributions in the significance of the nation. Since women played an active role throughout the wartime, Northern women s rights movement seek for recognition and deliberated a reasonable compensation for the right to vote. It is much more than a person obeying, there are underlying mechanisms in the brain that are still being studied today. Evidence Hypnosis has been used for a variety of reasons. Two categories it is used a lot in are addiction and phobias. With the use of hypnosis, a person can connect the addiction to something extremely distasteful which in turn makes the person not want to participate in the action anymore. Or hypnotism can change the mindset of a person with an extreme fear so that they no longer associate that fear with the object or action. Three studies were reviewed, a 2007 study on smoking cessation, a 2006 study on dental phobia, and a 2007 study on needle phobia. A study by Carmody, Duncan, Simon, Solkowitz, Huggins, Lee, and Delucchi (2007) researched different hypnosis interventions and then chose the one they believed would be the most helpful and compared it to behavioral counseling. Why is Samuel unpleasant to the request of the Israelites to set a King? 1 When Samuel became old, he made his sons judges over Israel. 2 The name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah; they were judges in Beer sheba. 3 Yet his sons did not follow in his ways, but turned aside after gain; they took bribes and perverted justice. 4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah, 5 and said to him, You are old and your sons do not follow in your ways; appoint for us, then, a king to govern us, like other nations. 6 But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, Give us a king to govern us. In contrast, Marvin Sweeney, the professor of the Hebrew Bible in Claremont School of Theology, asserts, Although the narrative can hardly be considered anti monarchic, it takes care to raise concerns about the character of kingship and its costs to the nation at large and it demands that proper kingship in Israel must be exercised in accordance with the divine will. In this view, Saul has not been accorded with God s will. Then, is this God s intentional choice? If it is true, why he does this? If God did not choose Saul as the king, it would be possible that he is not deserted from God. Bible

To avoid sexual harassment s expensive penalty and diminish its occurrence, employers need to recognize and understand both the reason for the harassment and the precise form of power being abused (UMC, 2007). According to Goodman (1991), power in sexual harassment has been viewed differently by men and women. The literature on sexual harassment generally characterizes it as an abuse of either role or sexual power. From the cases Goodman (1991) mentions in her report, it can be noted that for men, power comes from official authority, and they view sexual harassers as principally managers and supervisors. Men acknowledged that co workers could sexually harass one another, but co worker harassment was mainly seen as a mix up (UMC, 2007). However, women often distinguish all members of an organization as possible harassers, viewing it can be initiated by any person who is perceived as having power. However, it has been claimed that sexual harassment regulations are based on the point of view of the victim, nearly always a woman, and based almost completely on the feelings of the victim. Many men have argued that, it is almost impracticable to understand each other s feelings, and many suits filed for sexual harassment supposed as misunderstandings between the two parties (Goodman, 1991). This transition, as noted by one of her colleagues, was difficult for Whitney and she struggled with establishing her identity as an aspiring portfolio manager. Because of Fletcher s hands off approach to managing people, Whitney s growth was stifled under his management, which was a contributing factor to her eventual resignation. Hiring Brian Doyle without considering how he would get along with Whitney was another mistake Fletcher made in assembling his team. A seasoned financial consultant to high technology firms in Silicon Valley, Doyle had frequent contact with Fletcher over the years and offered valuable industry knowledge. However, he did not meet Whitney prior to joining the team and it soon became evident to Fletcher that tension existed between the two. The choice between right or wrong may seem a challenging but a person s morals are typically influenced by religion. Christianity has answers for every dilemma a person could be facing. By selecting the greatest of the Classical Greeks to compare and contrast himself to in his argument, Socrates surreptitiously urges his audience to view him as being of the same caliber as Achilles. This not only authenticates Socrates claims, but also exhibits his disconnect from earlier forms of thought. As Socrates paraphrases, when his mother said to him, as he was eager to slay Hector, My son, if you avenge the death of your friend Patroclus and kill Hector, you yourself shall die; for straightway, after Hector, is death appointed unto you, (The Apology, 28c). However, Socrates is relatively loose in his representation of Achilles. Homer s Achilles is focused primarily on private affairs as seen when he only agrees to return to battle to avenge personal loss in the form of his beloved Patroclus (The Iliad, book 18, 120). Contrastingly, Socrates represents the Greek hero as being much more absorbed by the necessity of attaining honor and justice for both himself and his peers. Through this specific example, Socrates makes it apparent that, he, like Achilles before him, is both willing and able to die if that is what it takes to find truth. He will under no circumstances condemn any of his actions just to save his life. Socrates primary motivation for comparing himself to Achilles, the best of all the classic heroes, is to convince the jury of his Achillean heroism. One attribute of a hero according to the events of the Iliad is that one must either kill or be killed in the pursuit of honor. Correspondingly, the Iliad chronicles Achilles life and death on the natural path to heroism. Despite the
